TRANSMISSION ROUGHLY JERKS ITSELF INTO 2ND-3RD GEAR. WHEN THE CAR HAS COME TO A STOP AND IS THEN ACCELERATED, ENGINE STALLS FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN SLAMS ITSELF INTO 2ND OR 3RD GEAR. THIS POSES AS A REAR-END THREAT, AS THE CAR IS FORCEFULLY PUT INTO GEAR, CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK FORWARD SUDDENLY. FOR ME THIS ONLY OCCURS AT LOWER SPEEDS (10-30 MPH). I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND MANY OTHERS HAVE COME ACROSS THE SAME THING.

Summary

ON 6/18/2018, THE PASSENGER SIDE STEERING CONTROL ARM BROKE OFF THE SUB-FRAME OF MY 2006 MAZDA 6 WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET CLOSE TO HOME WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND NOT ON A HIGHWAY. I DID NOT KNOW AT THE TIME THAT IT WAS THE SUBFRAME. ALL I KNEW WAS THAT THERE WAS NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS IT WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONTROL ARM BROKE OFF THE SUB-FRAME BECAUSE THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED/CORRODED. IT'S UNACCEPTABLE AND A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR AN AUTO SUBFRAME TO ROT LIKE THAT AND MY CAR ONLY AS ABOUT 86,000 MILES. I CALLED MAZDA USA (1-800-222-5500) AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. THEY STARTED A CASE AND ADVISED ME TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP FOR AN INSPECTION. ON 6/29/18, I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO LIBERTY MAZDA. ON 7/5/2018, THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE SUBFRAME FAILED BECAUSE IT WAS RUSTED/CORRODED. AND THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ME AN ESTIMATE OF $1,973 TO REPAIR THE CAR USING A USED SUBFRAME. ON 7/9/2018, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ANGELA (REFUSED TO PROVIDE LAST NAME) A MAZDA USA CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. SHE STATED THAT MAZDA USA DECLINED TO ASSIST IN REPAIRING MY CAR. IN OTHER WORDS, MAZDA USA IS NOT OWNING UP TO THEIR ENGINEERING FLAW DESIGNING THE SUBFRAME. EVEN THOU NHTSA HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUBFRAME FAILURES DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. I DECLINED GETTING MY CAR REPAIRED SINCE MAZDA USA WAS NOT WILLING TO PAY ANYTHING TOWARDS THE REPAIR.

Summary

TAKATA RECALL DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY SPEED 55 MPH DROPPED VALVE BLOW HOLE IN BLOCK WHICH ALSO BLEW BIG PIECES OF THE PISTON AND BLOCK ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH COULD HAVE BOUNCED BACK INTO TRAFFIC CAUSING INJURY TO ON COMING DRIVERS OR DRIVERS FOLLOWING VEHICLE. I COLLECTED PIECES OF THE PISTON AND BLOCK ABOUT THE SIZE OF A MEDIUM SIZE HAND WELL OVER 50 YARDS BEHIND THE VEHICLE AFTER I DID AN IMMEDIATE STOP TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS FOLLOWING ME OR ON COMING TRAFFIC SO NO ONE GOT HURT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM IN THE MAZDASPEED6 OR MAZDASPEED3 VEHICLES. I WOULD RECOMMEND HAVING THESE MOTORS REPLACED WITH A BETTER BUILT ONE BEFORE SOME ONE GETS HURT OR WORSE DIES.

TAKATA RECALL I GET A LETTER EVERY YEAR THAT THERE IS A RECALL BUT THAT THE "REMEDY" IS NOT AVAILABLE. THERE IS NO PROJECTION OF WHEN MY REMEDY WILL BE AVAILABLE. MEANWHILE MY VEHICLE HAS LOWER RESALE VALUE, IS GETTING OLDER AND I REMAIN AT RISK. WHILE 31% OF AT RISK VEHICLES HAVE RECEIVED SOME KIND OF REMEDY, THE RATE OF REMEDY APPEARS TO BE SLOWING DOWN. FIVE YEARS AFTER THE RECALL, I MIGHT HAVE A 50/50 CHANCE OF GETTING A REMEDY. I BELIEVE THERE IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT MY VEHICLE WILL BE IN THE JUNK YARD BEFORE A REMEDY IS OFFERED. SEEMS LIKE A GOOD PLAN IF YOU HAVE TO PAY TO MAKE THE REPAIR. WHERE IS THE DIRECTIVE TO SERVE THE PUBLIC? YES, 7 MILLION AIRBAGS SOUNDS BUSY. KENNEDY'S MOON PROGRAM WAS COMPLETED IN 8 YEARS 2 MONTHS.

I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL LETTERS REGARDING THE DEFECTIVE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS. IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE I RECEIVED LETTER FROM MAZDA REGARDING ONE AIRBAG. WITHIN THOSE TWO YEARS, MY MAZDA DEALER STILL STATES THEY ARE UNABLE TO SOURCE PARTS FOR THE RECALL, TWO YEARS AFTER FIRST NOTICE. RECEIVED LETTER FROM MAZDA REGARDING PASSENGER AIRBAG RECALL (NOW TWO RECALLS). LOCAL MAZDA DEALER STILL STATES MAZDA HQS HAS NOT PROVIDED THEM WITH REQUIRED PARTS TO FIX BOTH RECALLS. WILL BE WRITING A LETTER TO BBB REGARDING MAZDA CORPORATE'S FAILED FULFILLMENT OF A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING RECALL THAT HAS SIMPLY BEEN BRUSHED UNDER THE RUG WITH NO CONCERN OF THE PUBLIC'S SAFETY.

WE CALLED AND THEY HAD THE PARTS ORDERED FOR US IN ABOUT A WEEK. JUST GOT THE CALL THAT OUR PARTS ARE IN, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL ONLY DO THE WORK ON A WEEKDAY, NOT ON WEEKEND. MY WIFE AND I BOTH WORK MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, AND BOTH OF US HAVE FAIRLY NEW JOBS SO TAKING TIME OUT DURING OUR WORK DAY FOR THIS IS DISRUPTIVE TO OUR JOBS, YET THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO PERFORM THE WORK ON A SATURDAY WHEN WE ARE BOTH READILY AVAILABLE. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT DRIVER AIR BAG SINCE JUNE OF 2014. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MAZDA IN FEBRUARY OF 2015 THAT STATED I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN A PART IS AVAILABLE. I CONTACTED A MAZDA DEALERSHIP IN JUNE OF 2015 TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE AIRBAG AND WAS TOLD I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE AVAILABLE. IT'S BEEN A YEAR AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. IS THERE ANY ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO HAVE THIS EXPEDITED OR FINANCIAL COMPENSATION FOR THE LOSS OF A VEHICLE?

NOW THEY'VE REISSUED THE RECALL UNDER A NEW NUMBER (15V-382) BUT STILL NO PARTS/REMEDIES ARE AVAILABLE. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF LIVES AT STAKE. IS THERE A TIME LIMIT? THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE FORCED TO BUY BACK CARS WITH DEFECTS OR PAY FOR US TO LEASE ANOTHER CAR UNTIL THEY CAN FIX IT. WHAT REMEDIES DO WE HAVE OTHER THAN TO SIT AND WAIT AND PUT OUR LIVES AT RISK?

DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT ABOUT 65 MPH, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON, SECONDS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER, MY MAZDA6 SHUT OFF AND I LOST POWER STEERING. I GOT STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE LEFT SIDE (IF STANDING IN FRONT OF CAR) UNDER THE HOOD AND RADIATOR FLUID WAS POURING OUT THE BOTTOM. CAR WOULDN'T START, CLICK CLICK CLICK, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME. HAD A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LOOK AT THE CAR, HE SAID THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN. **MY CAR GAVE ZERO INDICATIONS THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING, NO CHANGE IN THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE.** I THINK THERE IS A DEFECT SOMEWHERE IN THIS AREA, AS IT SHOULD'VE TOLD ME IT WAS OVERHEATING. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN JUNE 2006 AND HAVE BABIED IT. THIS IS THE FIRST AND ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE EVER HAD WITH IT. I DID NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE. *TR

I THOUGHT THE HOOD WAS GOING TO BLOW OFF BUT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INSIDE THE CAR DOES NOT SAY IT IS OVERHEATING. I BELIEVE THIS THE RESULT OF A FAULTY COOLING FAN CONTROL MODULE. Summary

WHEN STARTING AND INITIALLY DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN SINGLE DIGIT TEMPERATURES THE POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKES CUTS OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE IN EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURES THE "TCS OFF" LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND REMAINS LIT FOR APPROXIMATELY 30-45 SECONDS AFTER THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE'S POWER BRAKING SYSTEM FAILS TO ENGAGE RESULTING IN A STIFF PEDAL REQUIRING EXCESSIVE STOPPING FORCE. THIS SITUATION GOES AWAY AFTER BRAKES HAVE BEEN PUMPED OR USED REPEATEDLY (PRESUMABLY TO WARM UP FLUID). PROBLEM DOES NOT MANIFEST AT HIGHER TEMPERATURES AND NO ADDITIONAL ABNORMALITIES EXIST IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATE TO SIGNAL A PROBLEM. POTENTIAL FOR COLLISION IF ABOVE NORMAL STOPPING DISTANCE IS NOT OBSERVED DURING OPERATION IN COLD CONDITIONS. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT A VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC WOULD LIKELY TURN UP A "COULD NOT DUPLICATE" SCENARIO. *TR

Summary

5 MONTHS AGO, TOOK CAR TO MAZDA DEALER FOR TIMING CHAIN, VVT NOISE AND WAS REPLACED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. LAST MONTH STARTED TO FEEL INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER DURING QUICK ACCELERATION FOLLOWED BY PLUME OF SMOKE AT THE TAIL PIPE. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS HEAVY CARBON BUILDUP AT THE VALVES AS WELL AS MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, O2 SENSOR, AND OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS. THE BILL WAS FOR ABOUT 1800 WORTH OF PARTS AND LABOR FOR DEEP CLEANING THE VALVES (INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVED). AFTER REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, TOOK CAR HOME AND DROVE FOR ABOUT 25 MILES WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED AND I SMELLED BURNT OIL AND SMOKE INSIDE THE CABIN. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE AND LOOKED UNDER THE CAR TO FIND LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL LEAKING FROM ENGINE. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO SAME MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD A ROD SHEARED AND BLEW A HOLE THROUGH THE BLOCK AND PUNCTURED THROUGH THE TRANSFER CASE HOUSING. THERE WAS NO ROD BEARING FAILURE, THE ROD JUST SNAPPED IN HALF. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THE ENTIRE REPAIR COST AND WILL NOT COVER THE TRANSFER CASE DAMAGE. READING THROUGH SEVERAL FORUMS, THE SAME ENGINE DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED TO SEVERAL OTHER MAZDASPEED 6 OWNERS. THIS TYPE OF ENGINE FAILURE APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE ROOT CAUSE OF THESE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURES. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 MAZDA 6 WITH A VIN IN THE RECALL RANGE, EXCEPT I LIVE IN MICHIGAN SO IT IS NOT RECALLED. MY INFLATOR WILL CONTINUE TO DEGRADE, AT A SLOWER RATE THAN THOSE IN HIGH HUMID AREAS, BUT IT WILL EVENTUALLY GET TO THE POINT WHERE IT WILL HAVE TAKEN IN ENOUGH MOISTURE TO DISASSEMBLE WHEN DEPLOYED. I WANT THIS TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE IT BLOWS UP. THE SUPPLIER HAS DEMONSTRATED AN UNWILLINGNESS TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT HAS A PROBLEM. NO ONE SEEMS TO BE CONCERNED THAT A SUPPLEMENTAL SAFETY DEVICE CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD. ASK THOSE INVOLVED IN THE INDUSTRY AND YOU WILL GET A COMMON RESPONSE THAT "DEATH" IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE FAILURE EFFECT. THERE IS PROBABLY A PRETTY [XXX] GOOD REASON NO OTHER AIRBAG INFLATOR MANUFACTURER USES AMMONIUM NITRATE IN THEIR PROPELLANT FORMULATIONS. INFLATORS LEAK. ALWAYS DO AND ALWAYS WILL. YOU CANNOT KEEP THE MOISTURE OUT INDEFINATELY. AND I DEFINATELY DO NOT WANT TO WAIT UNTIL MORE INNOCENTS ARE KILLED OR MAIMED BY THESE DEVICES BEFORE MINE TOO IS RECALLED. *TR INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

Summary

THE ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING, BUT ORIGINALLY STARTED IN THE SUMMER OF 2008 (CAR HAD ROUGHLY ABOUT 42,000 OR SO MILES ON IT). INITIALLY THE CAR WOULD INCREASE THE RPM UP TO 7000R IN 5TH GEAR (GOING TO 6TH) AND THEN DECREASE CAUSING IT TO DO A HARD JERK (SOMEONE ELSE DESCRIBED IT AS BEING REAR ENDED AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT FEELS LIKE). I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP IN MARLOW HEIGHTS, MD (WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY) AND THE SERVICE PERSON AND I WENT FOR A DRIVE (I WAS DRIVING) HE TOLD ME THAT HE DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING OFF ABOUT IT SO I WENT BACK HOME. FAST FORWARD TO 2013 (THE PROBLEM PERSISTED THROUGH THE ENTIRE TIME) WHEN I TOOK THE CAR THE ARLINGTON MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THIS IS WHERE THEY DID A TEST DRIVE ON IT AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT MY CAR'S TRANSMISSION IS GOING BAD (THE CAR HAD ABOUT 49,604 OR SO MILES ON IT). TO DATE, THE VEHICLE (WHICH NOW HAS 58,360 MILES ON IT) HAS TROUBLE PICKING UP SPEED IS EXTREMELY LAGGY AND IN 5TH TO 6TH GEAR WILL PULL A HARD JERK BEFORE IT CATCHES UP WITH ITSELF. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. MAZDA NEEDS TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THERE'S CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER ALL, IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY BEHIND THE VEHICLE(S) HAVING THIS ISSUE THEY ARE GOING TO UNDOUBTEDLY BE INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS COLLISION AND THERE PROBABLY WILL BE A FATALITY. PLEASE NOTE: I INCLUDED THE MILEAGE THE CAR HAS SO THAT THOSE CONSIDERING PURCHASING THIS CAR WILL KNOW THEY MAY NOT HAVE LONG TO ENJOY IT BEFORE THEY HAVE A REALLY DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM ON THEIR HANDS. *TR

Summary

AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY VEHICLES IS CLOUDING OF THE PLASTIC LENSES OVER HEADLIGHTS. THIS PROBLEM IS EXCEEDINGLY SEVERELY BAD ON THE MAZDASPEED 6. THE CLOUDING CANNOT BE REPAIRED VIA HEADLIGHT RESTORATION KITS AS ONCE IT'S REMOVED, IT COMES BACK EVEN WORSE AFTER. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES. SINCE THESE ASSEMBLIES INCLUDE THE HID HEADLIGHTS ELECTRONICS (BALLAST) THEY ARE INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE. THESE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO CLOUD AND BECOME COMPLETELY WORTHLESS WITHIN A YEAR OR TWO. ON MY 8 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THE HEADLIGHTS ARE COMPLETELY USELESS AT NIGHT, THE HIGH BEAMS PRODUCE LESS LIGHT THAN LOW BEAMS ON MOST OTHER VEHICLES. THE EASY SOLUTION FOR MAZDA WOULD BE TO RECALL THE HEADLIGHTS AND RETROFIT A LENS (GLASS OR OTHERWISE) THAT WILL NOT CLOUD. MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT DUE TO THE INEFFECTIVENESS OF THE LOW BEAMS. *TR

I NOTICED THE COOLING FAN COMING ON EVERY TIME I TURN THE CAR ON AND IT DOESN'T TURN OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING IN THE NORMAL TEMPERATURE RANGE, SO I DON'T THINK THE FAN SHOULD BE RUNNING CONSTANTLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC, WHO NOTIFIED ME OF A RECALL BY MAZDA FOR THE FAN CONTROL MODULE FOR THE SAME PRODUCTION YEAR AND THE SAME MAKE/MODEL. I REACHED OUT TO MAZDA, BUT THEY NOTIFIED ME MY VIN DIDN'T FALL IN THE RANGE OF THE RECALL. IT SEEMS ODD THAT THE SAME PRODUCT WOULD HAVE THE SAME ISSUE IN THE SAME CAR BUT NOT BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. I WANTED TO NOTIFY THE NHTSA OF THE ISSUE IN HOPES THAT MAZDA WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THANKS. *TR

Summary

I OWN A 2006 MAZDA SPEED6 WITH 96,600 MILES, PURCHASED DECEMBER 2005. MY SPEED6 HAS ALWAYS HAD A TURBOCHARGER SMOKING PROBLEM. AT ONE POINT, IT LOOKED LIKE A MOSQUITO SPRAYING TRUCK GOING DOWN THE ROAD. BUT THAT ISSUE SEEMED TO ABATE, AND APPEARED TO BE UNDER CONTROL ON ITS OWN. NOW THE CAR IS BURNING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 300 MILES. THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AND AFTER A YEARLONG ATTEMPT TO WATCH THE PROBLEM, TO SEE IF IT COULD BE CONTROLLED, I FINALLY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION, THAT IT COULD NOT, AND THAT THE TURBOCHARGED HAD TO BE REPLACED. I THUS MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE MAZDA DEALER CLOSEST TO MY CURRENT RESIDENCE, PADUCAH MAZDA, IN PADUCAH, KY. I TOOK THE CAR IN YESTERDAY, AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT OIL WAS LEAKING FROM MY TURBOCHARGER SEALS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WELL KNOWN AND PREVALENT, SUBJECT TO A NHTSA INQUIRY #10043874. AND AS A RESULT MAZDA ISSUED A LETTER EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM TO 84 MONTHS OR 70,000 MILES. I DO NOT RECALL RECEIVING THIS LETTER, OR IF I DID, AT THAT TIME DID NOT BELIEVE I HAD A PROBLEM WORTHY OF A NEW TURBOCHARGER. SO YESTERDAY, THE MAZDA CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM, AND GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $2500 TO REPLACE THE TURBOCHARGER. SINCE THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN WELL KNOWN, DOCUMENTED, AND SUBJECT OF A MAZDA WARRANTY CONSIDERATION, I CALLED MAZDA CONSUMER SERVICE TO SEE IF MAZDA COULD OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE ON THIS SERVICE ISSUE. I OFFERED TO WORK WITH THEM, TO PAY SOME PORTION OF THE REPAIR, MEET THEM IN THE MIDDLE IF POSSIBLE. MY REQUEST WAS DENIED IN TOTAL; ?NO ASSISTANCE?. NATURALLY, I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS RESULT, GIVEN THAT I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL MAZDA OWNER. I AM VERY SURPRISED WITH THIS ABRUPT AND NEGATIVE TREATMENT FROM MAZDA, GIVEN THE HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM. MY TRANSMISSION FAILS AND REVS HIGH WHEN I ACCELERATE TOO HARD OR AM GOING UP A HILL CAUSING A DOWNSHIFT. THIS IS MOST COMMON WHEN SWITCHING BETWEEN THE 5TH AND 6TH GEARS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM COMMON IN MANY VEHICLES OF THIS MODEL YEAR. IF I SUDDENLY CAN'T ACCELERATE GOING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND DROP DOWN TO 40MPH AS I WAIT FOR THE RPMS TO GO BACK DOWN, THERE IS A SERIOUS RISK OF BEING REAR ENDED OR SIDE SWIPED DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE FIX WOULD COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. *TR

DRIVING THE CAR ON THE TURNPIKE AND HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A BLOWOUT. IMMEDIATELY PULLED CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART, BUT MADE NOISE AND WOULD NOT START. CALLED HUSBAND, WHO ARRIVED AND SAID THE ENGINE HAD COME APART. THERE WERE PHYSICAL PIECES OF THE ENGINE BLOCK UP TO THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL IN THE SKID PLATE UNDER THE ENGINE, AS WELL AS OIL UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND ON THE ROAD. WE HAD RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MAZDA A FEW WEEKS EARLIER INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE SEALS IN THE TURBO AND A STOP PIN IN THE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING (VVT) AND IF THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED ANY OF THE SYMPTOMS TO BRING IT TO THE DEALER FOR EVALUATION AND REPAIR, UP TO 7 YEARS/70K MILES. CALLED DEALER AND MAZDA HQ NEXT MORNING. MAZDA CUSTOMER RELATIONS ACTED IF THEY WERE INTERESTED IN THE ROOT CAUSE AND REASON FOR FAILURE, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS 1K MILES OUT OF THE COVERAGE PERIOD. MAZDA PAID FOR TOW TO DEALER, BUT ONCE THERE MAZDA CUSTOMER RELATIONS WANTED ME TO PAY FOR THE ENGINE TEARDOWN AND BEGAN TO DANCE AROUND THE WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THE VVT PROBLEM INFORMING ME THAT MAZDA IS RIGID ON THE 7YRS/70K MILES. I QUESTIONED MAZDA ON THE DISCUSSION THE PREVIOUS DAY REGARDING THE POST-MORTEM TEARDOWN AND ANALYSIS, WHERE I WAS GIVEN THE IMPRESSION MAZDA WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE TOW AND THE TEARDOWN TO DETERMINE ROOT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND THEN THE CLAIM WOULD BE EVALUATED FROM THERE. MAZDA DID A COMPLETE TURN AROUND AND WOULD NOT HONOR THEIR INITIAL WORD, NOW INFORMING ME I WOULD BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY WORK PERFORMED ON THE CAR. *TR

WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE, MY 2006 MAZDA 6 MADE A LOUD NOISE LIKE GRINDING GEARS AND STALLED FOR A SECOND REVVED UP AND WENT INTO 3RD GEAR. THE CAR WENT FROM 65 MPH TO ALMOST A STOP AND THEN TO 20 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. AFTER THAT, THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. RESEARCH SHOWED MANY OTHER 2006 MAZDA 6 OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. A MAZDA TSB WAS POSTED IN DECEMBER 2006, AND THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2006. MAZDA HAS NOT NOTIFIED ANY COSTUMERS OF THIS PROBLEM AND A TRANSMISSION GOING OUT AT 58K IS NOT TYPICAL. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE VALVE BODY SOLENOIDS. REPLACED THOSE FOR $800 AND STILL SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR. THEN PAID $3800 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT MIGHT DO THE SAME THING IN A FEW THOUSAND MILES. IF YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY, MAZDA DOES NOTHING FOR YOU. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS REAR END COLLISION HAZARD. *TR

Summary

I PURCHASED A 2006 MAZDA 6 ISPORT IN DEC 2005. SINCE PURCHASE I HAVE HAD AGGRESSIVE VIBRATIONS IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM EVERY 15,000-20,000 MILES. WHILE I AM A HIGH MILEAGE DRIVER, MOST DRIVING IS ON A HIGHWAY AND DOES NOT REQUIRES START-STOP BRAKING. IN ADDITION, I HAVE REPLACED MY BRAKE PADS WHEN TECH'S HAVE SUGGESTED. I HAVE MY ROTORS TURNED OUT BY THE MAZDA DEALERS 3 TIMES AND IN THE CURRENT SITUATION THE ROTOR CANNOT BE TURNED. THE DEALER AND THE MAZDA CORPORATE REFUSE TO LOOK INTO MY HISTORY OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL DOZEN MAZDA FORUMS THAT DISCUSS THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE MAZDA 6. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT THE GOVERNMENT FOUND ISSUES WITH FORMER MAZDA VEHICLES SUCH AS THE TRIBUTE AND ITS FORD COUNTERPART. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM HOWEVER THE DEALERS, MAZDA'S LOCAL TECHNICIAN, AND THE CORPORATE TECH LINE WILL REFUSE TO LOOK INTO THE MATTER ANYMORE. *TR

Summary

I CURRENTLY OWN A MAZDA 6 (2006) WHICH I ACQUIRE O MARCH 13, 2007. SINCE FEBRUARY 15, 2007 MY CAR STARTED TO STALLS AND SHUT OFF. I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER (MAZDA JIM CLICK) FOR REPAIRS SINCE THE PROBLEM ARISE. WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE I ALSO PAID FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLATINUM (PAS). THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS FOR 72 MONTHS OR 100,000 MILES WHICH EVER OCCURRED FIRST WHICH INCLUDE ANY MECHANICAL OR ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOR REPAIRS FIVE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THEY HAD EXCHANGES PARTS OFF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE APPARENTLY THAT WAS THE ISSUE BUT UP TO THIS MOMENT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. BACK IN JUNE 6, 2006 I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT MY VEHICLE FOR 39 DAYS; MY CAR WAS RETURN TO ME ON JULY 15, 2008 AND APPARENTLY AGAIN THE CAR WAS FIXED. ON AUGUST 2, 2008 THE VEHICLE STALL AND SHUT OFF AGAIN; THE PROBLEM PERSIST FOR 3 DAYS ON A ROLL AND THAT'S WHEN I DECIDE TO CALL JIM CLICK SO THEY CAN TOWED THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. SINCE THAT DATE THE DEALER IS STILL TRYING TO LOCATE WHAT IS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. NOW THE DEALER DECIDES TO EXCHANGE THE COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE DEALER TOWED BY VEHICLE BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON AUGUST 4, 2008; I INFORMED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGER THAT I WILL BE CONTACTING THE BBB FOR THIS ISSUE. CURRENT MILES: 52300 (APRX.). AT THIS MOMENT I HAVE A CLAIM OPEN WITH THE BBB AND MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS HAS CONTACT ME. *TR

Summary

MY NEW 2006 MAZDA 6 SEDAN THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER 30 MILES AWAY FROM S.F.. RIGHT AFTER DRIVEN HOME, IT HAD THE SEVERE OVERHEATING SMELL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. SUCH OVERHEATING SMELL OCCURRED EVEN WHEN MOVING THE CAR TO THE CURB. DEALER SAID IT WAS NEW CARS BURNING OFF SMELL. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER: CHANGED THE ENGINE COOLING THERMOSTAT, THE RADIATOR CAP, COOLANT RESERVOIR TANK AND RE-FLASHED THE POWERTRAIN. WAS TOLD THAT RESIDUAL SMELL WILL LINGER FOR A COUPLE WEEKS. THE OVERHEATING SMELL PERSISTS INSIDE THE CAR WHEN THE AIR VENT IS SET AT COLD OUTSIDE AIR. USUALLY SMELL STARTS IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER A MILE OF ORDINARY CITY DRIVE AT 25 MPH TO 35 MPH ON FLAT ROAD. IT GETS STRONGER AND SOMETIMES HOT AIR BLOWS IN WHEN THE DAY IS WARM (AROUND 68F TO ABOVE 70F). IF CAR IS PARKED FOR HOURS IN AN OPEN SPACE AFTER SEVERAL MILES DRIVE, HOT AIR AND SMELL BLOWS IMMEDIATELY AT START AND STAY ON. ON FREEWAY THE SMELL IS LESS STRONG BUT BECOMES VERY BAD WHEN EXIT TO A STOP SIGN. DURING THE COOLER DAYS OF 50F TO 65F, THE ONSET OF THE OVERHEATING SMELL IS DELAY. THERE IS NO SUCH SMELL IN THE VENT AIR WHEN SET FOR ''WARM'' AIR AT NIGHT OR AT ''AIR CONDITION'' TO CHECK IF SMELL IS FROM AIR DUCT. NOW THE CAR HAS 3000 MILES ON IT AND THE SMELL PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. A FEW TIMES I HAVE HEADACHE AFTER DRIVING WITH THE SMELL. FOR THIS PROBLEM I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR FOUR TIMES BETWEEN BOTH DEALERS AND CALLED THE MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TWO TIMES. EACH TIME THEY DID A PRESSURE LEAK TEST AND TOLD ME THE CAR IS OK WITHIN MANUFACTURER''S SPECS. THEY ALL CLAIMED THAT THERE IS NO SUCH SMELL IN THE DRIVING CONDITIONS AS I DESCRIBED. NOTHING IS DONE BECAUSE THEY CANNOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. LAST MONTH FOUND OIL STAIN UNDER CAR AND SOME RADIATOR HOSES TURN WHITE WITH POWDER. LAST WEEK THE LOCAL DEALER CHANGED THE LEAKING STRUT AND THE SLIGHTLY LEAKING OVERFLOW TUBE TO THE COOLANT RESERVOIR TANK. IT ALSO SAID COLOR CHANGE OF RADIATOR HOSE INTO ENGINE IS NORMAL. *JB

Summary

THERE SEEMS TO BE NO ONE SIGNIFICANT EVENT THAT HAS LEAD UP TO THE ISSUES I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WITH TIME OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS. IT STARTED WITH A MINOR STUTTER BACK IN LATE JULY/EARLY AUGUST. IT WORSENED A FEW DAYS AFTER THE COMPUTER WAS REFLASHED FOR THE RECALL IN EARLY SEPTEMBER. I'M NOT SURE IF THAT WAS A CATALYST TO THIS PROBLEM OR NOT SINCE IT WAS STUTTERING BEFORE A LITTLE BIT ALSO. BY LATE SEPTEMBER THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE WORSENING. BY MID-OCTOBER IT WAS STUTTERING CONSTANTLY WHEN DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE PROBLEM WORSENED WITH COOL WEATHER WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. ON NIGHTS BELOW ABOUT 30 DEGREES, THE CAR STUTTERS AND BUCKS SEVERELY FOR THE FIRST FEW MINUTES UNTIL THE ENGINE IS WARMED UP. ACCELERATION IS SOMETIMES UNPREDICTABLE DURING THIS TIME. SO FAR, MAZDA HAS REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND UPDATED THE ECU TO THE LATEST AVAILABLE AS OF NOVEMBER. SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED PRIOR TO THIS PER MY REQUEST. NOTHING SEEMS TO MAKE AN IMPACT. IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED THAT THIS PROBLEM (COLD START) SEEMS TO WORSEN ON ROUGH/UNEVEN ROADS. GAS TYPE (93 OR 94 AND NAME BRAND) SEEMS TO MAKE NO NOTICEABLE IMPACT. *NM

Summary

I LEASED MY FULLY LOADED 2006 MAZDA A6 BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2005. EVER SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THE CAR. FIRST, THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS NOT GOING DOWN. A FEW DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, I REALIZED THAT THE TURBO KEPT GIVING OUT ON ME. THEN I CAME ACROSS A HUGE DILEMMA, WHERE THE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL, DRIVE SHAFT, AND ALL THE BOLTS AND HINGES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A BOLT WHICH WAS NOT TORQUE ENOUGH. THEN, THE BRAKES KEPT MAKING AN ANNOYING NOISE EVEN WITHOUT THE BRAKES APPLIED AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE TIRES WEAR AND TEAR WAS HORRIBLE AT 6,000 MILES, TO THE POINT WHERE I SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THEM, AND MAZDA DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRE WAS TOO LOW. AFTER THAT, THE KEYLESS ENTRY/KEYLESS START REMOTE STOPPED WORKING, AND HAD TO OPEN THE CAR MANUALLY, WHICH GOT FIXED AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS, AND JUST REPLACED THE WHOLE THING. NOW, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR AXLE, AND HOW IT HAS TO BE REPLACED, BECAUSE WHEN THE LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL PROBLEM CAME ACROSS, THEY NEGLECTED TO LOOK OR FIX THE AXLE FROM THE START. NOW THEY HAVE THE COURAGE TO TELL ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE AXLE, AND RENT A CAR, AND ALL THE EXPENSES, BECAUSE THEY WERE NEGLIGENT OF LOOKING AT IT FROM THE START. THEY ARE BLAMING THE AXLE ISSUE ON THE TIRES, WHEN THEY WERE BAD TO START WITH AND THE TIRES THAT WERE GOING BAD WERE THE FRONT ONES, NOT THE REAR. *JB

Summary

A POTENTIALLY HARMFUL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE POWER WINDOW FUNCTION. I NOTICED THAT IF MOMENTARY CONTACT OF THE WINDOW CLOSE SWITCHES WERE MADE (OF A LONG ENOUGH DURATION) THE WINDOWS WOULD CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY. IF THE OPERATOR WERE TO DISCOVER THAT THE WRONG WINDOW WAS BEING CLOSED .....SIMPLY LETTING UP ON THE SWITCH WOULD NOT STOP THE POWER WINDOW FUNCTION. THE WINDOW WOULD CONTINUE TO RAISE,EVEN IF SOMEONE'S ARM OR EXTREMITY WAS IN THE WINDOW. IF A PERSON WERE TO MAKE SUCH AN ERROR OF SELECTING THE WRONG WINDOW WITH NORMAL POWER WINDOWS.....SIMPLY LETTING UP ON THE SWITCHES STOPS THE OPERATION. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE WITH THE 2006 MAZDA 6 THAT I LEASED. I DID NOT TEST THE FORCE THAT THE WINDOW WAS CAPABLE OF EXERTING BEFORE STOPPING ON ITS OWN. I IMAGINE ON A SMALL CHILD THAT IT WOULD NOT TAKE MUCH FORCE TO BE HARMFUL OR FATAL. *JB

Summary

Mazda North America Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Mazda6, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 and 2004 MPV vehicles nationwide. Mazda is also recalling 2005-2006 MPV vehicles in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands. On July 9, 2019 this recall was expanded to include certain 2004-2011 RX-8 vehicles that were previously recalled under 16V-354 but have not yet been repaired. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these passenger air bag inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
