CORROSION HAS ROTTED THROUGH THIS AREA. VEHICLE HAS 123000 MILES ON IT. ALSO VEHICLE HAS SURFACE CORROSION ALL OVER BOTTOM OF SUBFRAME. FORD DID NOT APPLY CORROSION COATINGS ON THIS SUB FRAME PROPERLY. THIS COULD BE A HAZARD FOR OTHER VEHICLES AS WELL AS TIME GOES ON. NOTICE OTHER FORD VEHICLES HAVE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS AND RECALLS WITH SUB FRAME CORROSION, RANGING FROM 2001 THROUGH 2014. FORD'S VENDORS THAT FABRICATE THESE PARTS SHOULD BE UPDATED WITH MODERN PROCEDURES TO APPLY CORROSION PREVENTED COATINGS ON THESE PARTS PROPERLY. SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE SECTIONS FOR REPAIR... I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND PAID WELL OVER $1,000 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND IT JUST CONTINUES. I AM AFRAID MY FAMILY MAY ALL DIE! WERE ON 93 RECENTLY HEADING TOWARD BOSTON AND MY CAR DIED RIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION OF 495. I HAD ALL MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND IT WOULD NOT RESTART. 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER DRIVING ALONG AROUND TOWN OR HIGHWAY AND WILL JUST LOOSE POWER WITHOUT WARNING AFTER THE FACT THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON ALONG WITH A RED WRENCH OR AN ORANGE WRENCH, FIRST PLACE I HAD IT TO SAID IT WAS A NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE THAT WAS LOOSE SO THEY TIGHTENED THE CABLE, TOOK IT HOME STALLED OUT ON ME, TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER SAID WAS READING THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE DROVE VERY NEXT DAY STALLED ON ME ONCE AGAIN TAKING IT TO THE FORD DEALER ITSELF SAID COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS ONE IS THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW HAS EXPOSED WIRE WHICH THEY WILL BE FIXING THAT AND CLEANING OUT THE ELECTRICAL THROTTLE BODY AND SEE HOW THAT IS IF NOT THEN THEY WILL TRY REPLACING THE TORQUE CONVERTOR CLUTCH CIRCUIT FOR ONE THIS NEEDS TO STOP BEING A GUESSING GAME I'M NOT A MILLIONAIRE I USED MY 401K TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE, ITS SUCH A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHILE ON THE MAIN HIGHWAY AND JUST UP AND STOPPED ON ME LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN THE MEANWHILE WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER COMING UP BEHIND ME WITH SEVERAL OTHER TRAFFIC HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FORD CONTACTED BY THE ONE GARAGE AND THEY "WASN'T SURE" WHAT IT COULD BE, WELL IT STOPS ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING ANYWHERE SUCH A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW SOMETHING WITHOUT HAVING TO JUST "GUESS" THE SITUATION. ALSO EVERY TIME IT RAINS THE WATER SEEPS THRU THE SUNROOF AND THE OVERHEAD LIGHT YOU CAN SEE IT CAME THRU THE LINER ITSELF WHEN IT DRIES UP, SO HEARTBREAKING BECAUSE I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT I HAVE ONLY HAD FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND HALF.

BOUGHT USED IN WA STATE AND LIVE IN NJ NOW. AFTER PURCHASSE IT RAINED ONE NIGHT AND NEXT MORNING ENTIRE CENTER CONSOLE, OVERHEAD LIGHTS WERE ALL WET INSIDE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION DETERMINED LEAK WAS SUNROOF. NOTIFIED DEALER AND THEY HAD A GLASS SPECIALIST REMOVE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY AND THOROUGHLY CLEAN. REPLACED SEAL WITH NEW ONE AND CLAIMED NO MORE LEAKAGE. A FEW DAYS LATER IT RAINED AGAIN (WA WELL KNOWN FOR ALWAYS RAINING) AND AGAIN THE LEAK WAS PRESENT. THE DEALER'S RESPONSE WAS NOW 'PARK YOUR VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT END DOWNHILL. THERE ARE TINY SLOTS THAT DIRECT THE WATER DOWN THE CORNER PILLARS AND APPARENTLY CLOG EASILY. SO PARKING WITH FRONT END DOWNHILL WILL RELIEVE THE WATER BEFORE IT CAN POOL UP TO LEAK.

MOUNTAINEER PREMIER AWD WITH JUST OVER 150,000 MILES. WENT TO RAISE REAR (THIRD ROW) ELECTRICAL SEAT ON DRIVER/LEFT SIDE. MAKES A SLIGHT CLICKING SOUND AND WILL RAISE UP ABOUT 1 INCH, THEN JUST STOPS GOING UP WITH SOUNDS STILL HEARD. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWS A MOTOR IN THE CENTER ALONG A GEAR SHAFT WHICH MUST RAISE THE SEAT. THE MOTOR IS WHIRRING LIKE IT IS FUNCTIONING BUT THE SHAFT DOESN'T MOVE. THERE IS NO WAY TO MANUALLY FULLY RAISE THE SEAT.

SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY MOUNTAINEER THE ELECTRIC RUNNING BOARD ON THE DRIVER SIDE BEGAN TO MAKE A GRINDING SOUND. BOUGHT FROM A DEALER IN WA STATE AND MOVED TO WI STATE WHERE THE DRIVER SIDE STOPPED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE STOPPED EXTENDING/RETRACTING. MOVED TO NJ AND WE HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE EXTENDED WARRANTY. BEGAN TO SOUND LIKE A KNOCKING SOUND WITH LITTLE POWER AND HAD TOWED TO DEALER. THERE THEY FOUND ALL 8 SPARK PLUGS FOULED, DRIVER SIDE HAD 3 EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS LOOSE. PASSENGER SIDE HAD SAME 3 LOOSE, BUT ALSO HAD 2 BROKEN OFF IN EXHAUST MANIFOLD PLUS THE MANIFOLD ITSELF HAD A HAIRLINE CRACK. IN THE END, I PAID ALMOST $2,000 TO HAVE DRIVER AND PASSENGER RUNNING BOARD AND MOTORS REPLACED. THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR HAD GONE BAD AND WAS REPLACED, THE SPARK PLUGS AND ALL MANIFOLD BOLTS (ALONG WITH BROKEN) WERE ALL REMOVED AND REPLACED.

MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WAS LEAKING COOLANT DUE TO A CRACK IN THE RADIATOR. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE FORUMS, I HAVE LEARNED THAT HAS BEEN A LONG STANDING ISSUE WITH MANY OF THIS VEHICLES OWNERS. UNFORTUNATELY FOR OWNERS, FORD ISSUED A TBS IN 2009 JUST IN TIME FOR MOST OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES' WARRANTIES TO EXPIRE. SOME OWNERS ARE ON THEIR 3RD OR MORE RADIATOR REPLACEMENT, I AM ONLY ON MY FIRST. I PETITION THAT FORD RECALLS THIS ISSUE BEFORE MYSELF AND OTHERS HAVE TO REPEATEDLY PAY FOR THIS CLEAR DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THEIR HARD OWNED MONEY. THIS PROBLEM ALSO POSES SAFETY RISK TO THE PASSENGERS OPERATING THESE VEHICLES AND TO ANY ANIMALS ATTRACTED TO THE SWEET SMELL OF THE COOLANT FROM AFFECTED VEHICLES WHOSE OWNERS WHO MAY NOT YET KNOW THIS ISSUE OR CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX IT.

THE PROBLEM HOWEVER WAS NEVER FIXED IN THE YEARS THAT FOLLOWED AND SADLY THERE HAS BEEN NO SUBSEQUENT RECALLS IF I SMALL CHILD WAS BEHIND THE WINDOW THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR IF THE CAR WAS IN MOTION THE WINDOW COULD HAVE CRACKED AND FALLEN OFF. AFTER CALLING THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY THEY RESPONDED THAT FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL YEAR THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY BUT TO HOLD ON TO MY RECEIPT JUST IN CASE..... THE TOP AND BOTTOM WERE GLUED TOGETHER AND WITHIN THE TOTAL CIRCUMFERENCE OF ABOUT 18 INCHES, THERE WERE ONLY THREE BOLTS BETWEEN THE TOP AND BOTTOM HOUSINGS TO SECURE THE TWO PARTS TOGETHER, EXCEPT THE GLUE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE CONSTRUCTION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO KEEP THEM FROM SEPARATING UNDER PRESSURE. IT APPEARED, THE DESIGN CREATED A TENDENCY FOR THE TOP PLATE TO PULL AWAY FROM THE LOWER HOUSING. NEVER HEARD SUCH RIDICULOUS THING THAT NOWADAYS THE RADIATOR LAST SO SHORT TIME. IT SHOULD LAST LIFE TIME OF THE CAR. FORD APPARENTLY KNEW IT, HOWEVER, THEY ONLY ANNOUNCED A TSB IN 2009 WHEN MOST OF THE WARRANTIES WERE GONNA EXPIRE. THEY SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IT POSES LIFE THREATENING RISKS. I GUESS THEY JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MILES BEFORE THE IDENTICAL FAILURES RECURRED IN WHICH THE RADIATOR REQUIRED ADDITIONAL COOLANT. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTIONS AND THEY INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: RADIATOR ASSEMBLY. THE BULLETIN NUMBER WAS 0638. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT DUE TO THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT IMMEDIATELY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ENTIRE COMPUTER SYSTEM FAILED AND WAS REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS EMISSION FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO BEGAN EXPERIENCING FAILURES WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE FRAME WAS REPLACED. THE ENGINE LIGHT STILL CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE AND THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, IN ADDITION TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER DID NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE FAILURES. I BOUGHT MY 2006 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER APRIL 26, 2006. I STARTED HAVING THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS DECEMBER 2006. WHEN YOU PUT ON BREAKS TO STOP YOU HEAR A THUD AND THE VEHICLE WILL ACTUAL THROW YOU FORWARD IN THE SEAT. IT FEELS LIKE YOU MIGHT NOT ACTUALLY STOP WHEN IT FIRST HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS DAILY. THE FIST TIME I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND LEFT IT WITH THEM, THEY DROVE IT AND SAID THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. JANUARY 2007 I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THEM AND THEY DID DIVE IT AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CALLED FORD AND FORD TOLD THEM THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT AND THEY NEEDED TO PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND DO A RECALIBRATING. THEY DID THIS AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE FOR A WEEK AND IT RETURNED. I TOOK IT BACK TO THEM AND THEY REPLACED A PART IN THE TRANSMISSION, THIS LASTED A WEEK AND IT STARTED THE SAME THING AGAIN. I AM NOW STILL FUSSING WITH THEM ABOUT GETTING IF FIXED. I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE 1/18/2006 A MERCURY MOUNTAINEER. ON MY SURVEY THAT I RETURNED TO FORD IN MARCH OF 2006, I TOLD THEM THAT I HATED THEIR " SLIP-O-MATIC " TRANSMISSION. I DO NOT HAVE ALL THE VISITS DOCUMENTED BUT THE SECOND PROBLEM WE HAD WAS THE VEHICLE WOULD COME TO A STOP AT A STOP LIGHT AND THEN A FEW SECONDS LATER YOU WOULD FEEL A "THUD" LIKE YOU WERE HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPROGRAMMED AND THE VALVE REPLACED AND THAT PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE RESOLVED. BUT THE SLIPPING THROUGH THE GEARS CONTINUED TO BE A PERSISTENT PROBLEM. IT IS ALMOST AS IF WHEN YOU PULL OUT INTO THE HIGHWAY THAT YOU ARE IN SUSPENDED ANIMATION FOR 1 TO 1.5 SECONDS. THIS IS PARTICULARLY UNSETTLING WHEN CROSSING SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC FROM A STOPPED POSITION... LIKE PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION (WITH THE TRAFFIC) WHILE A SEMI IS COMING UP BEHIND YOU REAL FAST OR TURNING ACROSS TRAFFIC WITH OUT THE GREEN ARROW AND YOU REALLY HAVE TO GET ACROSS QUICKLY SOMETIMES IT WORKS SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. THIS OCCURS RANDOMLY BUT YET APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 20 TIMES A WEEK. RIGHT NOW THE SUV IS IN THE SERVICE CENTER. I HAVE REQUESTED THE NEXT REPAIR TO BE PERFORMED VIA TSB 07-13-8 BUT THE DEALER IS INSISTING THAT I MUST DEMONSTRATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WILL REPAIR IT PER ABOVE MENTIONED TSB....... THEY TOOK MY WORD BEFORE FOR THE REPROGRAMMING AND THE VALVE REPLACEMENT BUT NOW THEY DO NOT SEEM TO BELIEVE ME ANYMORE. *JB
