ON MARCH 26,2020 I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR. THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED, STICKY, AND MELTED THROUGHOUT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED PRIORITY TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD (JOHN SERVICE MANAGER) THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT DUE TO THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION-ZE6 WHICH ENDED MAY 31, 2017. ALSO, I HAD OWNED THE CAR FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS. HE WOULD REPLACE IT AT MY COST OF APPROX. $2200 BUT HE WOULD PROVIDE AN EXACT AMOUNT WHEN I DECIDED TO FIX IT. THEN I EXPLORED THE INTERNET TO SEE THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM. IT CAN LEAD TO VISIBILITY PROBLEMS (GLARE) AND PROBLEMS WITH THE DASHBOARD AIRBAGS. YESTERDAY, APRIL 7, 2020 I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER 1-888-2709371 AND SPOKE TO RANDALL WHO REPEATED WHAT JOHN HAD SAID, BUT ADDED THAT MY CAR WAS OLD AND NOT WORTH MUCH AND I HAD GOTTEN MY MONIES WORTH OUT OF IT. I ASKED WHO I COULD CALL NEXT AND HE SAID HE WAS THE END OF THE LINE. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE #[XXX] BUT CAN'T SEE TO READ IT FOR MYSELF. THE CAR HAS REMAINED IN MY GARAGE SINCE I SAW THE PROBLEM ON MARCH 26. IT IS GETTING WORSE. IT WAS LAST DRIVEN ON MARCH 5 WITH NO PROBLEMS. THERE ARE NO STORED DIAGNOSTIC CODES. THE VEHICLE IS NOT GOING INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AS IT SHOULD. WITH ANY THROTTLE OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE NEVER ENTERED FAIL SAFE MODE EVEN AFTER REPEATED MALFUNCTIONS. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

THIS IS A HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE. I BOUGHT IN OCT 2017 AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP NEAR ME. I WAS TOLD DUE TO THE CAR MANUFACTURE DATE, I WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE RECALL OF THE DASHBOARD FROM TOYOTA. I AM TOLD THE DASHBOARD PART IS $1,800 - WOW! ABNORMAL OPERATION BETWEEN ACCELERATOR AND THROTTLE. TECH TESTED THROTTLE BODY AND TESTS PASSED. TECH TESTED ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND VALUES OUT OF RANGE. TECH WOULD THINK THIS COULD CAUSE A DTC TO SET IF NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY BUT THERE WERE NO CODES. AT RANDOM MOMENTS, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. CANNOT GET ANSWERS. OCCURS MOST OFTEN AFTER IDLING AT A LIGHT THEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE IT WON'T MOVE. THIS HAS OCCURRED OVER THE YEARS SO WE HAVE HAD THE THROTTLE AND FILTER CLEANED TWICE IN THE PAST BUT PROBLEM IS PERSISTENT AND BECOMING MORE FREQUENT.

MINE IS A 2006 TOYOTA SOLARA. IT'S RIDICULOUS WHY THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT IS ONLY FOR THE STICKY DASHBOARD WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND INSIDE DOOR PANELS ARE MADE OF THE EXACT SAME MATERIAL. THESE PARTS MUST BE COVERED AS WELL ESPECIALLY WE TOUCH THESE PARTS EVERY SINGLE TIME WE USE THE VEHICLE. ON MINE, I NOTICED THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE MATERIAL SINCE LAST YEAR WHEN I WAS WIPE CLEANING THE INTERIOR OF MY SOLARA. THIS WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT MUST BE EXTENDED TO FIX THE MATERIAL ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND DOOR PANELS. I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS BECAUSE I READ BLOGS AND THERE ARE OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE EVEN ON LEXUS 2006. STRUCK FROM REAR BY ANOTHER DRIVER AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED; WAS THROWN FORWARD INTO DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR PANEL AND DRIVER'S HEAD STRUCK THE CONVERTIBLE TOP METAL TOP-FOLDING STRUCTURE. BELIEVE THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER DEVICE FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, AS WELL. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP FOR THIS MODEL WAS IN THE UP POSITION AT IMPACT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT CAUSED BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER TO LURCH FORWARD, CAUSING SERIOUS BODILY DAMAGE TO BOTH PARTIES. DRIVER SUSTAINED BRAIN INJURY AND SPINAL INJURY AND IS STILL RECEIVING TREATMENT AND SURGERY FOR HIS INJURIES. THE PAIN HAS INCREASED A LOT SINCE ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SPARED MORE PAIN. I AM INSISTING ON A CAT SCAN, MRI, & XRAYS ON MY BACK TO COMPARE TO PREVIOUS TESTS DONE IN 2009. I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS. I TURNED MY KEY OFF, PLACED IT IN PARK AND THREW MY KEYS ON TO THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS CAR CAUSED THE CRASH. I HAVE NEVER FELT ANYTHING SO STRANGE AS I COULD NOT STOP THIS CAR WITH THE BRAKE. IT HAPPENED IN ONLY ABOUT 4 SECONDS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER, AS I DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE IT. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL IT IS FIXED BY TOYOTA. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH MY CAR EXCEPT SOME HESITATION IN MOVING FAST INTO TRAFFIC. TOYOTA SENT AN INSPECTOR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT THE CAR ON 8/17/10. I CALLED TO SEE WHAT THE RESULTS WERE AND THEY SENT A MESSAGE BY A SECRETARY THAT NOTHING WAS ABNORMAL AND IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE. I WILL NOT ALLOW MY INSURANCE TO PAY FOR THE PHYSICAL DAMAGE UNTIL TOYOTA FIXES THE BRAKE/ACCELERATION PROBLEM. I AM LUCKY THAT I, OR SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T GET KILLED OR HURT. DEALER NOTICED A VERY SMALL DEPRESSION NEAR WHEEL WELL, AND SAYS THAT SOMEONE MAY HAVE BUMPED THE CAR IN A PARKING LOT. REFERRED ME TO PRIVATE BODY SHOP WHERE I WAS CHARGED $586.00. DIRECTOR OF LOCAL AAA INSPECTED CAR. THEY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE BUMPER SHOULD HAVE DETACHED. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT IT FELL OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE FWY. AAA REQUESTED THAT I FILE NTSB REPORT, AND INSURANCE ADJUSTER IS EXAMINING THE CAR AND PHOTOGRAPHING THE BUMPER, WHICH WAS HELD TOGETHER BY TWO LITTLE PLASTIC BRACKETS. BODY SHOP SAYS THAT SOME OF THE NEW TOYOTAS HAVE BODY DEFECTS - THINGS THAT COME LOOSE. HE IS WONDERING IF THERE IS A PACKAGING AND SHIPPING PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THE BUMPERS TO GET LOOSE. HE ADDED 6 CLIPS AND BRACKETS TO THE BUMPER. THE NEW FRONT BUMPER IS NOW MUCH MORE STABLE THAN THE ORIGINAL BACK BUMPER. *JB

DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE THERE WAS A VERY HIGH IDLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. AFTER THE INITIAL REVVING, THE IDLE WOULD REDUCE TO A SLOWER PACE. THIS WAS COMPUTERIZED AND COULD NOT BE MANUALLY REDUCED. ALSO, WHEN PULLING OUT THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE AND SUDDENLY LURCH FORWARD.
