My vehicle's Passenger Restraint system has failed affecting the Airbag's deployment, seat belt tensioners, and other safety components. The car currently has warnings on the dashboard in the form of lights and as warning messages in the infotainment system. Lights/warnings appeared randomly while driving qith no prior symptoms. This fault puts the safety of any passengers in my vehicle in jeopardy in the event of a collision. Car is available for inspection at anytime to confirm faults.

SOME OF THE BMW FOOTWELL MODULE FOR THE E7X TO E9X MODELS CONTAINING A DEFECTIVE MICROCHIP THAT UPON JUMP-START OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE BATTERY LEVEL IS LOW WOULD CORRUPT ITS MEMORY. WHEN CORRUPTION OCCURS, THE CAR WILL DISABLE TURNING SIGNAL BLINKERS, POWER WINDOWS, INTERNAL LIGHTS, AND MORE. THOSE AFFECTED FUNCTION WILL RENDER THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. ON ROCKAUTO, AUTOZONE, ETC . . . THE PREMIUM RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT IS TO GET A CALIPER FOR THE REAR THAT HAS NO PHENOLIC PISTON, YET, INSTEAD HAS A SOLID METAL PISTON. UNTO THE WORST, AT TIMES, THE PHENOLIC PISTON HAS EJECTED FROM THE CALIPER AND JAMMED THE BRAKE PADS TO THE VERY ROTORS. ATE CALIPERS ARE OFTEN USED AS SINGLE OR DUAL PIN BOOTED CALIPERS ON BENZ. THEY ALWAYS HAVE METAL PISTONS. I HAVE PREMIUM BRAKES. MY ROTORS ARE UNHARMED, MY BRAKE PADS ARE UNHARMED. THERE IS NOT A SCRATCH IN MY ROTOR. MY WHEEL BEARING IS GONE. THERE'S A CONSTANT DISPLAY ON THE DASHBOARD THAT SAYS, "PASS-RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION". APPARENTLY IT'S QUITE A COMMON ISSUE ACROSS MANY BMWS AND UNFORTUNATELY BMW HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED IT FOR ALL MODELS AND HAVE DONE THE RECALL FOR LIMITED MODEL BETWEEN 2006 AND 2007, 2008 WAS LATER ADDED BUT MY CAR WAS ACTUALLY MANUFACTURED IN 2009 SO I BELIEVE THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED BEYOND 2008. ON THE FORUMS, I SAW AND READ OWNERS OF 2011 AND 2012 ALSO REPORTING THIS ISSUE.

THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING, AND THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE AND WAS MIXING WITH THE OIL, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

MY AC UNIT ON MY CAR WAS RAMPING UP, LIKE IT WAS HOT. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM BMW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT THE AC UNIT WIRING WAS FAULTY, COULD SPARK FIRE. TOOK MY BMW TO LOCAL SHOP WAS TOLD IT WAS THE AC WIRING AND THAT IT BLEW OUT MY BLOWER MOTOR, THAT I HAD TO REPLACE IT OR IT WOULD BE CAUSE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. HOWEVER, THE NSTA AND BMW RECALL WAS NOT IN PLACE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR AND GO BACK TO BMW TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE. I WAS UNABLE TO PAY FOR THE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS SO PAID A PORTION OF IT, WITH THE INTENT TO WAIT UNTIL THE RECALL WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. A FEW MONTHS LATER SAME ISSUE AC UNIT RUNNING HOT, TOOK CAR IN EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR HAD RECALL, IF THEY COULD GIVE ME REFUND SINCE THE BMW CUSTOMER CORPORATION STATED THE REPAIR WAS REFUNDABLE. UNTIL TODAY, THE BMW DEALERSHIP WHO IS AUTHORIZED TO MAKE DIRECT PAYMENTS HAS NOT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. I HAVE HAD SO MANY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHTS I CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP THESE CARS ON THE ROAD. THESE CARS ARE WORSE THAN THE VW DIESELS. THE CARS RUNS GREAT, YET BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE LIGHTS THE RPAIRS ARE MORE COSTLY THAN THE CARS ARE WORTH. I ASKED THE MURRIETA BMW TO ASK BMWNA TO SEE IF THEY WOULD REPAIR THE SCR ACTIVE TANK AND WAS DECLINED. I RUN THE 2010 BMW MANY MILES ON THE FREEWAYS SO THE SCR ACTIVE TANK PROBLEM DIDN'T SHOW UP UNTIL 186K MILES. MY 2011 BMW WHICH ISN'T DRIVEN ON FREEWAYS IS MUCH HAD TO HAVE THAT TANK REPLACED AT 117K MILES. WHEN TALKING WITH THE MURRIETA BMW SERVICE MANAGER, HE AGREED WHEN I TOLD HIM THESE CARS ARE CRAP. HE CALLED THE VERY NEXT DAY AND SAID THE PARTS WERE IN AND ADVISE THAT HE HAVE TO CHARGE A FEE BECAUSE HIS TECHNICIAN HAVE TO GET PAID. HE GAVE US A PRICE OF MORE THAN $3,000 AND SAID THIS IS NOTHING, WE CHARGE THE LAST CUSTOMER FOR HER BMW $12,000 WE ARE GIVING YOU A GOOD PRICE. MY BMWS BATTERY COMPARTMENT IN THE TRUNK WAS FLOODED WITH WATER. THIS CAUSED SHORTING OF THE BATTERY. THE CAR STALLED AND BECAME SUDDENLY INOPERABLE. EVEN THE TRUNK COULD NOT BE ACCESSED FOR A LONG TIME AS ALL THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS WERE LOST. THE BMW SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHO WORKED ON THE CAR SAID THAT THIS COULD HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS BATTERY EXPLOSION. FORTUNATELY, THE STALLING HAPPENED IN MY DRIVE WAY, BUT IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD ALSO. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AS PER BMW'S RECOMMENDATION. BUT STILL THE FLOODING IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT WAS NEVER FOUND. IT'S A SERIOUS RISK FOR ANY DRIVER. ANY BATTERY EXPLOSION OR STALLING CAN LEAD TO SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL AND CAN ALSO BE FATAL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MANY BMW OWNERS, BUT BMW HAS FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN ISSUE. BMW ON FIRE. I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON A CITY STREET FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES WHEN THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN I NOTICED SMOKE SO IT MAY HAVE STARTED WHILE IN TRANSIT. MY CAR HAD NO ISSUES, NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CAR, ENGINE OR DRIVING EXPERIENCE. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE THERE WERE NO WARNINGS ON THE DASHBOARD, NO SMELL OF FIRE OR BURNING OIL, NO SIGNS OF ENGINE ISSUES WHILE DRIVING BUT WHILE STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM AROUND THE DRIVER'S FRONT TIRE AREA AND IT ESCALATED QUICKLY. I WAS STOPPED WAITING AT A SECOND-TO-THE-LEFT TURN LANE SURROUNDED BY CARS AND NOBODY COULD MOVE AWAY. PEOPLE IN THE CAR TO MY LEFT PANICKED THE MOST AS THEY COULD SEE THE SMOKE GOING THEIR WAY AND COULDN'T MOVE THEIR CAR, FORTUNATELY THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN SOON AND I WAS STILL ABLE TO DRIVE TO AN EMPTY PARKING LOT OF A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT ACROSS FROM THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. I PARKED, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD THE ENGINE WAS IN FLAMES. MANAGEMENT OF THE FAST FOOD RESTAURANT RUSHED WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT IT WAS TOO LATE REGARDLESS. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A BMW DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DECLARED TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY BEFORE BMW EVEN FINISHED ESTIMATING THE DAMAGE. NOBODY INVESTIGATED FURTHER EVENTHOUGH I ASKED IF THEY WOULD GIVEN THAT MY CAR SEEMED IN PERFECT CONDITION. BMW STATED IT WAS A RARE INSTANCE HOWEVER WHEN I RESEARCHED ABOUT IT I FOUND BLOGS OF LOTS OF MORE CASES LIKE MINE. THE INSURANCE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED ANOTHER BMW IF ANYONE HAD CARED ENOUGH TO PROVIDE ANSWERS OR AT LEAST FOLLOW UP. I BOUGHT MY BMW IN 2014 CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP IN A BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT CONDITION. I'M JUST GLAD I WAS ABLE TO STOP, THAT THE ONLY PROPERTY DAMAGE WAS MY CAR AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THAT NOBODY GOT HURT.

I CALLED RICHMOND BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT AGAIN TODAY, 01-30-2017, AND WAS TOLD 30 MILLION BMWS WERE RECALLED FOR AIR BAG MODULES AND THAT THIS CAUSED THE DELAY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE AIR BAG MODULES WERE SCHEDULED TO BE RECEIVED THIS SPRING 2017. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I CAN NOT JUST PARK MY CAR. I WAS TOLD BY MY LOCAL BMW SOUTH MOTORS THAT THE PART NEEDED TO BE ORDERED FROM BMW NORTH AMERICA. THEN I FOUND OUT THE PART HAD TO COME IN FROM GERMANY, WHICH FOR A RECALL OF SUCH GRANDEUR, I FIND STRANGE THE PART HAS TO BE IMPORTED. ANYWAY, IT HAS BEEN CLOSE TO 3 MONTHS THAT I AM IN THIS ORDEAL WITH NO SOLUTION DONE AND NOTHING DONE TO MY AIRBAGS, THEREBY RISKING MY SAFETY ALL BECAUSE BMW NORTH AMERICA DOES NOT WANT TO DISCLOSE ANY DETAILS OF THEIR DOINGS. I BELIEVE THAT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED MY ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. I WAS REVERSING SLOWLY OUT OF A STEEP DRIVEWAY. ONCE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE SO THAT I COULD SWITCH GEAR IN TO DRIVE. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON BRAKE, THE CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARDS, AND I COULDN'T CONTROL IT. THE BRAKE WOULDN'T WORK. THE ACCELERATION WAS SO FAST, THAT WHAT STOPPED ME WAS HITTING A HORSE FENCE ACROSS THE STREET. I WAS GOING SO FAST, THAT I ENDED UP GOING AIRBORNE, AND ONLY DAMAGED THE TOP OF THE HORSE FENCE. MY FRONT PART OF MY CAR THEN FELL FORWARD AND BROKE THE TIE ROD IN HALF. I ENDED UP WITH WHIPLASH AND A CONCUSSION, REQUIRING POST-CONCUSSION SYNDROME PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR 4 MONTHS. I ASKED BMW FOR A SPECIAL INVESTIGATION INTO MY CAR TO SEE IF IT MALFUNCTIONED. MY CAR WAS NOT ALLOWED TO BE FIXED PRIOR TO THE INVESTIGATION AND HAD TO BE DONE AT A BMW DEALER, WHICH IT WAS. EVERYTHING WAS A SECRET WHEN BMW INVESTIGATED MY CAR. THE BMW DEALER SERVICE MANAGER WASN'T ALLOWED TO BE TOLD ANY FINDINGS OR WATCH THE INVESTIGATION. BMW SENT ME A LETTER AFTERWARDS STATING THAT THE CAR DIDN'T MALFUNCTION. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 33 YEARS WITHOUT ONE ACCIDENT OR TRAFFIC VIOLATION. I HAD DRIVEN THAT CAR FOR 4 YEARS AND I KNOW THAT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE BUT I WAS ACCELERATING FASTER AND FASTER AND COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. I HAVE READ OTHER REPORTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND WHAT IS DESCRIBED IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I AM LUCKY AND THANKFUL THAT NO CAR OR PERSON WAS BEHIND ME, BECAUSE I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHOULD NOT SNAP FOR NO REASON. AND BMW SHOULD COVER THEIR REPLACEMENT (PARTS AND LABOR) AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE INTERSTATE MY CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PROBLEMS WITH HESITATION BECAME WORSE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 50 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD ALMOST STALL WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILINING IGNITION COIL IN CYLINDER #3 WHICH WAS REPLACED. ON 11/28 THE CAR STARTING DOING THE SAME THING. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THAT WAS CLOSER TO MY WORK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I FELT VERY UNSAFE. AT THIS TIME THE CAR HAS 53440 MILES ON IT. RIGHT OUT OF WARRANTY! I CALLED BOTH DEALERSHIPS AND COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL BMW. I WAS CHARGED $681.06 FOR A KNOWN ISSUE AND THIS BEING THE 2ND TIME MY CAR HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS TIME THE FAILURE WAS IN CYLIDERS 2 AND 6! AND WAS TOLD TO PAY TO REPLACE ALL AS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL! I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP BMW OF TOWSON AND NEVER RECEIVED A RETURN CALL. I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR THIS SERVICE AS BMW OF CATONSVILLE WOULD HAVE DONE THE REPLACEMENT FOR FREE AS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. I COULDNT DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO BMW OF CATONSVILLE BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOW ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY. EXCESSIVE SOOT AND CARBON BUILD UP IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND INTAKE VALVES OF THE 335D WHICH IS A DIESEL CAR. THIS CAUSES ROUGH IDLING, MISFIRES, AND LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. WHILE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR MORE THAN 20K MILES AND CONTINUOUS TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE. FINALLY, THE DEALER AGREED IT WAS CARBON BUILD UP BUT THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. I STARTED MY CAR AND BEGIN PULLING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT. THE LATTER STATED THAT IT WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR THOUGH CAUTION SHOULD BE USED. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED RE-STARTING THE ENGINE, IT WOULD CRANK AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO START, BUT WOULD NOT ACTUALLY START. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET A FEW PEOPLE IN THE AREA TO PUSH ME SAFELY OUT OF THE ACTIVE TRAFFIC LANE I WAS STALLED IN INTO A PARKING SPOT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP WHERE CAUSE OF ISSUE IS STILL BEING DIAGNOSED; SO I STILL DO NOT KNOW ROOT CAUSE FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. OF COURSE THIS WILL COST ABOUT 1250.00. I WENT BACK AND FOURTH ASKING WHY WAS MY HEAD REST REPLACED A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AT CREVIER BMW 1500 AUTO MALL DR, SANTA ANA, CA 92705. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE PA TURNPIKE NEAR THE QUAKERTOWN EXIT AT 75 MPH IN THE LEFT HAND LANE WHEN MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND CAME TO A STOP IN ACTIVE TRAFFIC. AS THE CAR WAS SHUTTING DOWN I HAD DIFFICULTY STEERING BUT WAS ABLE TO BRAKE. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE ERROR CODES OR LIGHTS TO INDICATE ISSUE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD ROLL BUT I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I CALLED 911 FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT A STATE FARM HIGHWAY WORKER STOPPED TO PROTECT ME FROM HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME UNTIL I COULD BE SAFELY MOVED OFF OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO WEST GERMAN BMW IN FORT WASHINGTON, PA. COST FOR THE ABOVE SERVICE WAS PAID FOR BY BMW UNDER A "WARRANTY EXTENSION" AS THIS IS A "KNOWN ISSUE." I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS NO RECALL OR SERVICE NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT BY BMW TO INSPECT OR REPAIR FAILING FUEL LINES. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE ISSUES FOUND IN MY CAR ARE EXCEPTIONALLY SERIOUS AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE THESE REPAIRS WILL APPEAR ON MY CARFAX AND WILL POSITION MY CAR TO OTHER BUYERS AS ONE WITH MAJOR ISSUES. DURING INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCESS SEVERAL ISSUE WERE NOTED. 1. AFTER REATTACHING, THEY WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, ONLY TO HAVE THE HOSE COME OFF AGAIN THE NEXT DAY AS IT WAS GOING THROUGH THE COURTESY CAR WASH 5. AFTER OPENING THE CAR AGAIN, THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINE THAT WAS CLAMPED ON "LINE A" RUPTURED, FULL FUEL TANK AND ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. *TR

SEALS WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED AT APPROX 18K MILES AFTER A TWO WEEK WAIT TO RECEIVE REPLACEMENT PARTS ORDERED FROM THE ONLY SUPPLIER IN GERMANY". (INCIDENT #2) A YEAR LATER, MAY 2013, ONCE AGAIN I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE DEFECTIVE PARTS AFTER HEARING THE HINGE ON THE RIGHT (PASSENGER) REAR OF MY VEHICLE MAKING A GRINDING NOISE, GRATING AGAINST THE GLASS AS THE CONVERTIBLE COLLAPSED INTO THE TRUNK COMPARTMENT OF MY VEHICLE. ON JAN 13, 2013 CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AT CRUISE CONTROL AT SPEED SETTING 83 MPH ON TURNPIKE AT 11PM. SUDDENLY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER OUTPUT. ENGINE WAS UNABLE TO HANDLE POWER REQUIREMENT TO KEEP CRUISE CONTROL SPEED AT 83 AND VEHICLE'S SPEED DROPPED TO LOW 70-IES MPH. ECU DID NOT DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL WHILE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED. SUDDENLY VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCOMMENTED BACK TO THE SET CRUISE CONTROL SPEED OF 83 MPH. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY SITUATION. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO BMW SERVICE ON JAN 16 2013 AND REMAINED THERE FOR OVER 2.5 MONTHS! MANY PARTS WERE REPLACED AND ENGINE LIGHT-ON EVENT WAS REPLICATED SEVERAL TIMES BY SERVICE MECHANICS. BMW CENTER MANAGER STATED "WE DO NOT WANT TO SELL YOUR CAR TO ANY OF OUR CUSTOMER, THEY MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS YOU HAD". IRONICALLY, VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO CUSTOMER ON MARCH 27, AFTER 70 DAYS OF REPAIRS AND TROUBLESHOOTING. CUSTOMER WAS SHOWN PICTURES BY SERVICE MANAGER OF CYLINDER HEAD, ONE OF THE MANY PARTS THAT WAS REPLACED, THAT WAS FULL OF GUNK AND CARBON BUILD UP. I OWN A JAN. 2010 BMW 335I WITH 5,800 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, THE WARNING SYSTEM CAM ON AND READ THAT THE ENGINE WAS AT REDUCED POWER BUT I COULD CONTINUE DRIVING AT A REDUCED SPEED. AS I WAS READING THE NOTICE, THE ENGINE DIED AND I HAD TO GLIDE OVER 5 LANES WITH NO POWER TO REACH THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM EXPLAINED, SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUSPECTED IT WAS THE HIGH INJECTION FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THEY'VE HAD TO REPLACE OTHERS. MY 2010 BMW 335XI (3,500 MILES) SUDDENLY STALLED ON WA HIGHWAY 520, ON THE LAKE WASHINGTON BRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC DUE TO HPFP FAILURE. THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WARNING ON THE NAV DISPLAY, STATING THAT ONLY LIMITED ENGINE POWER WAS AVAILABLE, WHEN TWO SECONDS LATER THE ENGINE STALLED, LOSING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AS WELL. I WAS GOING APPROX. 25 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ENTERING THE BRIDGE THAT HAS NO SHOULDER. I WAS BLOCKING ONE OF TWO EASTBOUND LANES AND POSED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND GO FOR APPROX. 50 YARDS BEFORE THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN. DOING SO 4-5 TIMES I REACHED THE MIDSPAN TURNOUT AND STOPPED IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SPOT. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHEN A DOT TRUCK APPROACHED AND PUSHED ME OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE BRIDGE. I WAS IN AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE POSITION FOR APPROX. 30 MINUTES! THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE PROBLEM WAS A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE, THE PUMP WAS REPLACED. WHEN I CALLED BMW TO COMPLAIN, THE REP SAID SHE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. WE LEASED A NEW 2010 BMW 335D (DIESEL) ON 12/12/09. ON 2/28/10, THE CAR FAILED TO START FOR THE SECOND TIME AFTER A VERY HEAVY RAIN AND WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY BMW DEALER. WE TOLD THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR THAT WE BELIEVED THERE WAS WATER IN THE SYSTEM RESULTING FROM THE RAIN. AFTER EXAMINING THE CAR, HE TOLD US THAT THE CAR'S FAILURE TO START TWICE AFTER A HEAVY RAIN WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE, THAT THERE WAS NO WATER IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF FAULTY GLOW PLUGS, WHICH WOULD TAKE A WHILE TO COME FROM GERMANY. HE ALSO INFORMED US THAT REPAIR EFFORTS WOULD BE FURTHER DELAYED BECAUSE NO DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA HAD TRAINED DIESEL MECHANICS AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO CONSULT A DIESEL EXPERT ON THE EAST COAST. WE PICKED UP THE CAR ON 3/11/10. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, THE CAR STARTED ERRATICALLY AND RAN POORLY, SO WE RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER A MONTH OF FAILING TO FIX THE CAR, THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT THEY HAD SENT THE FUEL TO A LAB TO BE TESTED (THIS LATER TURNED OUT TO BE FALSE) AND HAD DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL, THAT THE PRESENCE OF WATER IN THE FUEL COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY US AND THAT WE WERE, THEREFORE, FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIRS. EXHAUSTIVE EFFORTS TO GET BMW TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PROBLEM HAVE PROVEN USELESS. WE WILL FILE A "LEMON LAW" LAWSUIT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. SAFETY ISSUES: (1) OUR PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE OUR CAR HAPPENED TO BE STATIONARY. IF, AS WE BELIEVE, THE PROBLEM WAS THE RESULT OF THE RAIN, THE STRONG POSSIBILITY EXISTS THAT OTHER BMW DIESEL CARS MIGHT STALL WHILE ON THE ROAD IN BAD WEATHER AND PERHAPS AT HIGH SPEEDS. MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) FAILED IN MY 2010 BMW 335I WHILE ON AN ONRAMP TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY. WHEN I ACCELERATED I FELT A CHUGGING SENSATION FROM THE CAR FOLLOWED BY A GONG. THE GONE WAS ALERTING ME THAT MY CAR HAD WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO ACCELERATE ANY FURTHER THAN I HAD ALREADY. LUCKY THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME MOVED OVER ONCE I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY EXIT ONTO THE NEAR BY FEEDER AND INTO A PARK LOT TO AWAIT ASSISTANCE. I WAS LUCKY IN THAT THERE WAS LIGHT TRAFFIC BECAUSE IF THERE HAD BEEN HEAVY TRAFFIC THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD CHANCE FOR INJURY OR EVEN POSSIBLY DEATH FOR ME AND OTHER MOTORIST. FAILURE OF THE HPFP HAPPENS RANDOMLY, THERE ARE REALLY NO CONDITIONS ON WHEN IT CAN FAIL, IE: MILES DRIVEN OR DRIVING SITUATION. THERE ARE A FEW SYMPTOMS, BUT THOSE VARY FROM CAR TO CAR. MY CAR HAD NO PREVIOUS INDICATIONS OF FAILING PRIOR. HOWEVER ONCE FAILED I EXPERIENCED LONG, HARSH CRANKS, FOLLOWED BY AN ERRATIC IDLE, AND EVENTUAL "LIMP MODE" OCCURRING SHORTLY AFTER. THE LONG CRANKING AND HARSH IDLE ARE USUAL SYMPTOMS OF A FAILING/FAILED HPFP. VIDEOS AND PICTURES I DOCUMENTED SHOW THIS IN MY CAR. MY ISSUE WAS TEMPORARY "PATCHED" WITH A NEW HPFP REPLACEMENT. RECENTLY I HAVE STARTED HAVING LONG CRANKS WHICH THE DEALER TRIED TO REMEDY BY REPLACING A LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP SENSOR, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I ALSO HAVE PAPERWORK DOCUMENTING THAT VISIT AND THE VISIT THAT REPLACED THE HPFP BACK IN DECEMBER.
