MTN VIEW FORD (301 E 20TH ST, CHATTANOOGA, TN 37408, (423) 756-1331) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STEERING COLUMN, AND RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN AND MOTOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN. A DEALER RON NORRIS FORD (3000 CHENEY HWY, TITUSVILLE, FL 32780 (321) 267-2112) ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE AND QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF OVER $2,000. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AGAIN.THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

ALL FUSES ARE INTACT--THERE IS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THIS TO OCCUR.

WHILE DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AT A SLOW SPEED, THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING. THERE WAS A FAULT INDICATION ON THE DASH BOARD. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET DRIVING AT LESS THEN 10 MILES PER HOUR. THE CAR WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER WITH THE THE POWER STEERING FAULT. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE STOP. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT. THE FAULT CLEARED AND THE POWER STEERING WAS FUNCTIONING AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR INTO MY MECHANIC FOR INVESTIGATION IMMEDIATELY. THIS 2010 FORD TAURUS SHO HAS ONLY 105000 MILES ON IT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE HAD IT HAPPENED AT HIGHER SPEEDS OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I SEE THAT THE 2011-2014 FORD TAURUS' HAD A RECALL FOR THIS SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE.

ON A ROAD TRIP, WE STOPPED AT A REST STOP. WHEN WE WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT, WITHIN SECONDS THE POWER STEERING FAULT ALERT WAS PRESENTED, AND POWER STEERING WAS GONE. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND WE REALIZED WE COULD NOT MAKE THE 80 MILE DRIVE HOME. THIS RESULTED IN A $500 TOW THAT WHEN WE DROPPED THE CAR THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING FINE AND THE ALERT WAS GONE. A PROBLEMATIC RACK HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A TRUSTED MECHANIC WITH AN EXPECTED BILL OF OVER $2000 FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. SEEMS EXACTLY LIKE THE RECALL FOR THE 2011-2013 MODELS AND CLEAR NEGLIGENCE ON FORD'S PART AND NHTSA FOR NOT INCLUDING ALL MODELS WITH THIS PROBLEMATIC PART.

ON AUGUST 21, 2019 I STARTED MY 2010 FORD TAURUS SHO AND PROCEEDED TO PULL OUT INTO THE STREET AND FOUND THAT I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED VEHICLE TO FIND THAT AN ALARM OR BEEPING SOUNDED AND ON THE CLUSTER MESSAGE BOARD A FAULT READ "POWER ASSIST STEERING FAULT" AND WAS AGAIN BARELY WITH BOTH HANDS FORCEFULLY ABLE TURN STEERING WHEEL EITHER WAY LEFT TO RIGHT. I WAS ONLY TWO BLOCKS LUCKILY FROM MY HOME AND MAN HANDLED THE STEERING TO MY GARAGE. AFTER A QUICK SEARCH I SEE THAT FORD ALONG WITH THE NHTSA FAILED TO INCLUDE FORD MODELS FROM 2008-2010 IN A RECALL FOR FAILING ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLIES THAT WAS ISSUED FOR 2011 AND UP MODELS. THESE PRE 2011 MODELS CONTAIN THE SAME EXACT PARTS AS WHAT IS IN THIS RECALL. THE PARTS COST IS NEARLY $1100 AND UPWARDS OF $1000 FOR LABOR. THIS NEGLIGENCE BY BOTH PARTIES HAS RAISED THE INJURY OR DEATH FACTOR TEN FOLD FOR EVERY ECOBOOST OWNER ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE POPULATION AS THESE CARS ARE GETTING OLDER OUT ON OUR STREETS. IF THIS FAULT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED THE PREVIOUS DAY AS I TRAVELED FOR OVER 3 HOURS ON THE INTERSTATE OR MAKING MY WAY AROUND A CURVE OR ANY TURN I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TYPE THIS COMPLAINT. JUST GOOGLE THIS DEFECT AND TO NO SURPRISE I'M NOT THE ONLY VICTIM OF THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. MANY HAVE HAD ACCIDENTS RELATED TO THIS SUDDEN PART FAILURE OR NEAR MISSED. MANY VICTIMS HAVE TRIED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH FORD AND THE NHTSA TO RECEIVE NO ASSISTANCE REGARDING THIS ISSUE. WHY IS THAT. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT GOING TO DISAPPEAR BUT ONLY GET WORSE AS THE CONTROL MODULE MOUNTED ON THE RACK AND PINION IS SUBJECTED TO EXTREME HEAT FROM THE TURBOS AND CATALYTIC CONVERTERS THAT WAS ENGINEERED DUE TO A LACK OF SPACE INSIDE THE ENGINE BAY AREA AND WERE MOUNTED WITH IN 3 INCHES AWAY FROM THIS ELECTRONIC RACK AND PINION COMPONENT. HELP!!!

WHILE PARKED IN A PARKING LOT, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE SCREEN ON THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR, BUT THAT MESSAGE WOULD NOT CLEAR AND THE WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT DRIVING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED SINCE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD TAURUS SHO 2010 MODELS. AS MANY OF 2011 FORD MODELS HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THERE WAS A HUGE RECALL DUE TO THE SAME POWER STEERING FAULT ASSIST PROBLEM. THE 2010 MODEL IS USING THE SAME PARTS AS 2011 MODEL BUT THE 2010 MODELS IS NOT LISTED UNDER THE RECALL. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLY TO GET MY CONVERSATION DISCONNECTED MIDWAY BY THE REPRESENTATIVE. I CALLED AGAIN TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION BUT AGAIN I GOT DISCONNECTED RUDELY. THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I HAVE BEEN A FORD CUSTOMER FOR YEARS. THERE WAS NO FORM OF COMPENSATION FROM FORD AND IT COST ME 2200 USD TO GET IT FIXED OUT OF POCKET.

I HAVE TO LOWER WINDOW, UNLOCK THE CAR, OPEN HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE. THEN RAISE DRIVERS WINDOW, GET OUT OF CAR AND THEN LOCK THE DOOR. THIS IS VERY DIFFICULT BECAUSE I'M GOING THROUGH ACTIVE BREAST CANCER TREATMENT AND HAVING TO BEND MY ARM LIKE THAT.

IN MY OPINION, THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE RECALL WORK ON 1/27/16 OVERLOOKED OR FAILED TO ADDRESS THE LEFT REAR DOOR HANDLE - THOUGH FORD IS USING THAT ABSOLVE THEMSELVES OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES OR OBLIGATION TO REMEDY. I CHECKED MY FLUID LEVELS AND DISCOVERED THAT MY RADIATOR RESEVOIR WAS LOW ON FLUID. I THEN PULLED THE ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK AND DISCOVERED A CHOCOLATE MILKY SUBSTANCE ON THE DIPSTICK. I SUSPECTED THAT THE OIL AND COOLANT HAD MIXED CAUSING MY ENGINE TO FAIL. I CALLED A WRECKER SERVICE AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO CLASSIC FORD OF COLUMBIA. ON MONDAY, 2/12/2018, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM DEAN RAY, SERVICE PROFESSIONAL FROM CLASSIC FORD. MR. RAY TOLD ME THAT HE THOUGHT THAT THE INTERNAL WATER PUMP FAILED CAUSING THE COOLANT AND OIL TO MIX AND POSSIBLE RUINED THE ENGINE AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. AFTER RECEIVING THIS INFORMATION, I CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE DESIGN FLAW WITH THE FAILURE OF THE INTERNAL WATER PUMP. WHEN FAILURE OF THE WATER PUMP OCCURS, THERE IS NO WARNING GIVEN TO THE DRIVER THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN SUDDENLY. THIS INTERNAL WATER PUMP WAS PLACED IN THE 3.5 DURATEC ENGINES IN THE TAURUS, EDGE, FLEX, FUSION, AND POSSIBLY OTHER FORD CARS. THIS FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. I THINK FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE ENGINES. MANY AUTO EXPERTS HAVE DISCOVERED THIS ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE. LOSS OF LIFE IS POSSIBLY WITH THIS DANGEROUS ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND AN ESTIMATED $7,300.00 ENGINE REPLACEMENT BILL. PLEASE TAKE ACTION ASAP TO AVOID DEATH AND INJURY TO FORD OWNERS. I HAVE A 2010 TAURUS SHO THAT HAS THE ECO ENGINE THAT I BOUGHT 7 MONTHS AGO AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND I LOOK AT THE DASHAFTER SOMETHING POPS UP ON THE DISPLAY UNDER THE MPH GAUGE AND IT SAYS THAT I HAVE TO SERVICE POWERSTEERING SO I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF IT RESET AND TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I START THE VEHICLE IT SAYS SERVICE POWERSTEERING NOW SONOW MY STEERING WHEEL IS COMPLETELY UN ASSISTED BY THE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SO THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST LOCKED I STRUGGLED TO MAKE IT HOME AROUND TURN ALMOST CRASHING INTO RAILS AND I HAD TO DRIVE SLOWER THAN THE 18 WHEELERS ON THE FREEWAY THE WORST PART WAS THAT I WAS WITH MY FAMILY WE WERE ALL TERRIFIED AS I WAS STRUGGLING TO STEER WITH ALL MY STRENGTH TO MAKE IT HOME SAFE . AFTER WE BARELY MADE IT HOME I JUST TOOK IT TO GET THE CODE TURNED OFF AT A MECHANIC SHOP WICH WAS VERY SIMPLE , BUT GUESS WHAT IT CAME BACK EVERYTIME I GOT ON THE FREEWAY WICH IS NOT SAFE .THIS VEHICLE IS JUST SITTING IN MY GARAGE AS IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN WITH SUCH PROBLEM . I AT FIRST DISMISSED THIS ISSUE TO BEING A SENSOR GOING BAD FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. I LATER FOUND THAT DURING THAT TIME SAME PERIOD THE SPEED CONTROL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STOP WORKING AT VARIOUS PLACES AND TIMES ON STRAIGHTAWAYS OR TURNS WITHOUT REGARD TO WHAT SPEED IT WAS SET AT, HOWEVER THIS DID NOT HAPPEN TO MYSELF BUT A RELATION WHO WAS BORROWING MY CAR ON OCCASION. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE ENGINE GOT TO HOT AND THERE IS EXHAUST GASES IN THE COOLANT AND SUGGESTS A NEW ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE 150K MILEAGE ON THE ENGINE. THE IMPORTANT PART OF THIS IS THAT THIS IS A VERY POOR DESIGN BY THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER. I AM A MECHANIC/SUPERVISOR FOR A COMPANY THAT HAS BEEN USING THE FORD TAURUS AS IT'S VEHICLE OF CHOICE FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS. THIS FAILURE HAS HAPPENED TO TAURUS' IN OUR FLEET FOUR OTHER TIMES IN THE LAST FOUR MONTHS WITH CATASTROPHIC FAILURE BEING THE OUTCOME. THE VEHICLES WERE 2010-2012 WITH 100K -150K MILES.BECAUSE THERE IS NO OUTSIDE LEAK AND THE LEAK IS SLOW SO THAT THE COOLANT DEGRADES THE OIL AND INTERNALLY DAMAGES THE ENGINE BEFORE A LOSS OF COOLANT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. I OWN A 2010 FORD TAURUS SE. I PURCHASED THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO, I BEGIN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS AGO. THE CAR BEGIN TO RUN HOT WHILE DRIVING SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I CRANKED THE CAR UP AGAIN AND THE GAUGE READ NORMAL. ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE SAME ACTION OCCURRED SO I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE BECAUSE OIL AND WATER WAS MIXING WITHIN. I WAS VERY UNHAPPY BUT HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE OUT-OF-POCKET BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD ALREADY EXPIRED. I THEN MADE A PROMISE THAT I WILL NEVER EVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD IN MY LIFE BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN GM VEHICLES AND HAVE NEVER REPLACED ANYTHING MAJOR ON THE GM VEHICLES. I THINK THAT FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE ENGINES BECAUSE THIS WAS A VERY UNPLEASANT, AND INCONVENIENT EXPERIENCE. WAS INSPECTING THE UNDERSIDE OF MY 2010 TAURUS SHO. THE LH TURBO (FRONT TURBO) SEEMS TO BE COVERED IN OIL. TALKING WITH MY MECHANIC THIS CAN CREATE A FIRE HAZARD. THE FLASH POINT OF 5W-30 IS 435^C. DURING NORMAL ENGINE OPERATION EXHAUST TEMPERATURE CAN GET TO AND EXCEED 700^C. THE EXHAUST IS ONLY A FEW INCHES FROM WHERE THE OIL RETURN LINE GOES BACK INTO THE RESERVOIR. THERE WAS A TSB FOR THE ISSUES BUT SOME OWNERS SAY THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. HOW CAN OWNERS BE EXPECTED TO PAY FOR INSTALLING AN UPDATED DESIGN WHEN ITS NOT THEIR FAULT? ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SOMTHING THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE? I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH AND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE GASKET ON THE OIL RETURN LINE. THERE HAVE ALSO BEEN REPORTS OF FIRES WITH THESE CARS THAT WERE MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY AN OIL LEAK. THERE ARE NO RECALLS CURRENTLY ISSUED FOR THE TURBOS ON THIS CAR. I FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE IS VERY SERIOUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE OF FIRE. MY SON WAS DRIVING THIS CAR WHEN IT STARTED TO MAKE NOISE AND SMOKE ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM OUR HOUSE. HE WAS DRIVING ON STREETS, NOT HIGHWAY. HE PULLED OVER. WE CALLED OUR MECHANIC AND HE ADVISED US NOT TO DRIVE IT AND GET IT TOWED. UPON HIS INSPECTION, HE SAW 2 HOLES IN THE ENGINE THAT LOOKED LIKE SOMETHING SHOT OUT OF IT. THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC SAID HE NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS AND THAT IT MUST BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WE TOOK PICTURES OF IT. HAD I BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF TRAFFIC, A REAR END COLLISION COULD HAVE OCCURRED. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AT A FORD DEALER TODAY ( 02/11/2016). THE REMEDY WAS TO CHANGE A RFA MODULE RELATED TO THE KEY FOBS. THE THEORY IS THIS : NO KEY RECOGNITION MEANS THE COMPUTER IS TELLING THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN. THE FORD DEALER CAN'T EXPLAIN WHILE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT : ( I DRIVE WITH THE SAME KEY FOBS AT ALL TIMES). THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE SOLUTION. THIS IS THE SECOND REPORT FILED ON THE SAME VEHICLE. THE DATE OF LAST REPORT WAS 07/31/2011. NHTSA ID NUMBER 10416408. THE SOLUTION LAST TIME WAS REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS THE SOLUTIONS DO NOT MATCH. SO BASICALLY, FORD HAS NO ANSWER.

OIL IN PTU UNIT ON AWD 2010 FORD TAURUS SHO VEHICLE GETS OVERWORKED AND OVER EXPANDS AND LEAKS OUT OF THE TOP OF THE VENT CAP. THE OIL DRIPS DOWN ONTO THE EXHAUST AND BURNS OFF. THE BURNING OIL FUMES ARE THEN SUCKED INTO THE CABIN VIA THE HVAC SYSTEM. THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THE FUMES FROM ENTERING THE VEHICLE CABIN IS TO HAVE THE HVAC ON RECIRCULATE. FORD CLAIMS THAT THE PTU HAS A LIFETIME OIL IN IT AND THAT IT SHOULD ONLY BE REPLACED IF CONTAMINATED. MANY CONSUMERS ARE REPORTING THAT THEY ARE PUMPING THE OIL OUT AND REPLACING IT WITH FRESH OIL IN 25K TO 35K INTERVALS. MY VEHICLE HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT AND 1 PTU WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE AND THE REPLACEMENT PTU IS EXHIBITING THE SAME ISSUES AS BEFORE WHEN THE 1ST PTU FAILED. THE INHALATION HAZARD OF BURNING OIL FUMES NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS IT POSES A SERIOUS HEALTH RISK TO OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE.

ONCE I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND PUT IT BACK THE CAR WILL START TO ACT OK BUT AT TIMES I WILL HEAR A CLUNK FROM THE UNDER THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION GOING INTO GEAR. THEN ON OR AROUND 8/15/2015 COMING HOME FROM THE STORE THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, STARTED SHAKING AND MISSFIRE. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO GRIFFIN AGAIN. IT WAS ANOTHER BAD INJECTOR #2 CYLINDER. THEN TESTED FOR ALCOHOL LEVELS IN GAS FOUND NOTHING RAN SOME OTHER TEST FOUND NOTHING. FINALLY JUST FIXED IT. SO WHATS GOING ON? I'M SOMEWHAT AFRAID OF DRIVING THE CAR FOR FEAR OF CAUSING A ACCIDENT. THE BRAKE STARTED WITH CABLE NOT RELEASING WITH THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED CAUSING A RUBBING NOISE WHICH AVIS FORD STILL CLAIMING THEY CAN'T SEE OR HEAR ANYTHING, NEXT, THE ROOF LEAK AND REPLACING OF THE NOISY AIR CONDITION SYSTEM THAT WAS REPLACE AND STILL HAS SOME KNOCKING WHEN THE SYSTEM IS TURNED ON. THIRD THE CAR WAS REQUIRED BY THE DEALER TO GO THROUGH A COMPUTER UPGRADE WITH HAS CAUSE THE CAR TO HAVE PERFORMANCE ISSUES. MY CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP TODAY FOR NOT EXECELLARATING. I WAS DRIVING ON SATURDAY WITH MY TWO GRANDCHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS OLD AND MY CAR STOP WORKING, LEAVING ME STRANDED WITH THE CHILDREN. THE RPM LOST POWER AND THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE, ALTHOUGH THE GEARS WERE WORKING. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY CAR SINCE BEFORE 36000 MILES AND THE ISSUES KEEP ADDING. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRODUCTS THEY DESIGN AND PUT ON THE ROAD. I HAVE SEEN OTHER TAURUS CAR THAT HAVE NOT HAD HALF THE ISSUES MY CAR HAS EXPERIENCED OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS. FORD NEEDS TO BUY MY CAR BACK AND REPLACE IT WITH A MORE RELIABLE VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A MILLION ISSUES. THE SUN SCREEN IS SUPPOSED TO RETRACT WHEN THE CAR IS IN REVERSE. IT WOULD BE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE OUT OF THE REAR WINDOW AT NIGHT WITH SUN SCREEN EXTENTED 3/4 WAY UP. I BELIEVE THIS A SAFETY DESIGN FLAW. THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS IN THE CAR MANUAL TO RETRACT THE SUN SCREEN MANUALLY WHEN THE SUN SCREEN FAILED IN THE EXTENTED OR PARTIALLY EXTENTED POSITION.

UPON DRIVING THE CAR ON ANOTHER NIGHT FOR ABOUT 10 MILES, THE BRAKES ACTED UP AGAIN AND I WALKED AROUND FOR A VISUAL CHECK. NOTICED THE LEFT REAR (DRIVERS SIDE) ROTOR WAS GLOWING RED HOT SO I SNAPPED A PICTURE OF IT WITH MY CELL PHONE. THE NEXT DAY WE SCHEDULED A SERVICE AT OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND I WAS ABLE TO SHOW THEM MY PICTURE. THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO ORDER A NEW CALIPER AND REAR BRAKE PADS AND WOULD CALL WHEN THEY ARRIVED. WE FOUND OUT THAT THESE ITEMS ARE ON BACK ORDER FROM FORD. MEANWHILE, NO CAR WAS MADE AVAILABLE FOR US TO DRIVE UNTIL THE REPAIRS CAN BE MADE SO WE ARE STILL DRIVING THE CAR. MY WIFE NEEDS TO TAKE A BUSINESS TRIP (400 MILES EACH WAY) AND WE ARE NOT SURE IF THIS CAR IS SAFE. WE ARE ASSUMING THAT FORM MOTOR COMPANY FEELS IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR SINCE A LOANER WAS NOT OFFERED TO US. THE BRAKE ROTOR GETS GLOWING RED HOT AND ACTUALLY ILLUMINATES OUR DRIVEWAY AT NIGHT WHEN WE RETURN FROM A TRIP INTO TOWN, WHICH IS ONLY 4 MILES AWAY. WE ARE PARTICULARLY WORRIED ABOUT FUELING THE CAR UP AT A GAS STATION WITH RED HOT STEEL GLOWING AROUND GAS FUMES. THE HEAT IS SO INTENSE THAT YOU CAN FEEL IT FROM 5 FEET AWAY. AFTER READING MANY DIFFERENT BRAKE COMPLAINTS I DISCOVERED THAT FORD CANNOT KEEP UP WITH BRAKE PARTS WHICH ARE REGULARLY ON BACK ORDER. THEY MADE SOME (IN RETROSPECT QUESTIONABLE) REPAIRS, REPLACING THE BATTERY AND THE FUEL PUMP. WHEN THE CAR WAS PICKED UP IT STALLED AGAIN LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO SAID THE FUEL PUMP WAS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED AND FIXED IT. THE CAR RAN FINE FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS, BUT STALLED AGAIN, IN THE EXACT SAME MANNER, GOING ABOUT 50 MILES PER HOUR. ONCE AGAIN, AFTER SAFELY NAVIGATING TO THE SHOULDER THE CAR ENGINE STARTED WITHOUT ISSUE. THIS TIME WE TOOK THE CAR TO MANHATTAN FORD AND CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE. FORD CUSTOMER CARE DID NOT CONCEDE ANY ISSUES WITH THE MODEL, AND USED THE SOMEWHAT CIRCULAR REASONING THAT IF THERE WERE A PROBLEM THE MODEL THEN THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL, AND BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THEREFORE, THEY CONCLUDED, THE ISSUE RESTED SOLELY WITH MY INDIVIDUAL CAR. ON THE OTHER HAND, FORD CUSTOMER CARE WAS LESS ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT REPORTING THE PROBLEM TO THE NHTSA. WHEN I FIRST REACHED OUT TO THEM ON 9/9/13 THEY SAID I DID NOT NEED TO REPORT ANYTHING SINCE FORD WOULD DO IT ON MY BEHALF. IT WOULD TAKE JUST A LITTLE EXTRA AMOUNT OF PRESSURE INITIALLY TO TURN THE WHEEL. HOWEVER ON THE 6TH, I WENT TO BACK THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN, LITERALLY NOT TURN WITH ME PULLING AS HARD AS I COULD. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE OF NO LUCK, I PULLED THE CAR STRAIGHT BACK INTO THE GARAGE. AT THIS POINT THE STEERING STARTED WORKING SOMEWHAT, I WOULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL FOR WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A HARD TURN AND THE TIRE WAS ONLY MOVING, MAYBE A 1/6TH OF A "NORMAL". AFTER ANOTHER MINUTE OR SO, IT STARTED ACTING LIKE IT DID INITIALLY, NORMAL TURN WITH THE NOISE. FORD ABSOLUTELY KNOWS THE DANGERS OF THIS CAR, THEY ARE WELL DOCUMENTED IN MY COMPLAINT HISTORY AND IN VARIOUS COMPLAINT VENUES ON THE INTERNET AND THEY ARE STONE WALLING VERY EFFECTIVELY. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE CAR STARTED RUNNING REAL CHOPPY AND MISFIRING. I GOT THE CAR TO A SAFE DESTINATION. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO OUR NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THERE WERE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, NO PROBLEMS PASSING EMISSIONS, JUST NO SIGNS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. THIS IS A 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE PURCHASED BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. FORD HAS BRAGGED ABOUT THIS ENGINE BEING A PREMIER ENGINE, TOP NOTCH ECO BOOST TURBO CHARGED AND FOR US TO HAVE TO REPLACE IT AFTER TWO YEARS OF DRIVING IS INSANE. WE HAVE VEHICLES OLDER THAN THIS 2010 TAURUS SHO, ONE WITH 100,000(CHEVY 2006), ANOTHER WITH 150, 000(HONDA 2004), AND ANOTHER WITH 60,000(MITSUBISHI 2003) THAT HAVE GIVEN US NO PROBLEMS. FORD HAS NOT LIVED UP TO THEIR CLAIMS ON THIS CAR. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT ONE OF THE CYLINDERS HAD A COMPRESSION OF 0 AND THAT WE NEEDED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THEY NEVER TOOK THE ENGINE APART, THEY JUST DID A DIAGNOSTIC. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AT FORD AND COMPLAINED IMMEDIATELY AFTER FINDING OUT THAT WE WERE GOING TO NEED AN ENGINE. THEY QUOTED A PRICE OF $6800 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE.AFTER PROVIDING OUR SERVICE RECORDS, FORD OFFERED TO HELP US WITH SOME OF THE COST BUT WE WERE STILL OUT OF POCKET ALMOST $5000. WARNING TO CONSUMERS, THIS CAR, EVEN THOUGH I LOVED DRIVING IT, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE! WE PAID CLOSE TO $50,000 FOR THIS CAR. I STILL HAD A SQUEAK BUT THE PEDAL WAS NO LONGER GOING TO THE FLOOR. I WAS TOLD A SQUEAK CAN BE NORMAL. LAST WEEK I NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM WHAT APPEARED TO AGAIN BE THE BRAKES. I HAVE 12,000 ADDITIONAL MILES ON THE CAR SINCE FIRST BRINGING IT IN. I AM NOW TOLD THAT THE BACK BRAKES NEED A COMPLETE REPAIR BECAUSE THE CALIPER IS LOCKED AND THE PADS AND ROTORS ARE DESTROYED. I ASKED WHY THIS WASN'T FIXED BEFORE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT SOMETHING FORD WAS GOING TO COVER BECAUSE IT WAS NOT LOCKED AT THAT TIME. THIS BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FOR VEHICLES (INCLUDING THE 2010 FORD TAURUS) BUILD ON OR BEFORE 12/14/2009 AND DISCUSSES REPAIRING CALIPERS AS IS NEEDED IN MY REPAIR. I WAS OUTRAGED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS OUT THERE BUT THAT THEY DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM BACK IN DECEMBER WHEN I COMPLAINED OF BRAKE ISSUES. FRIEND FOLLOWING IN THE CAR BEHIND ME REPORTED SEEING MY "REVERSE LIGHTS" TURN ON AND STAY ON WHILE I REPORTED THE "D" LIGHT WAS OUT. TOOK TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS OVER THE COURSE OF 5 VISITS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS CONTACTED FORD AND THEY STATE THEY AREN'T AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS OF THIS NATURE. THIS IS A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION TO OCCUR WHILE TRAVELING 55MPH ON A CURVY CANYON ROAD. THE 2010 FORD TAURUS LOSES POWER AND THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AT SPEEDS WITHIN AND EXCESS OF 65 MPH. WHEN THE DEFECT OCCURS, THE ENGINE TURNS OFF, THE THROTTLE IS DEACTIVATED, THE CENTER STACK CONSOLE IS DEACTIVATED AND THE MESSAGE CENTER IN THE VEHICLE'S CLUSTER TELLS THE DRIVER TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE DRIVER MUST THEN PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN 45 DAYS.
