I BEGAN TO NOTICE AFTER LONG DRIVES, A SMELL SIMILAR TO A CAR OVERHEATING. ONE NIGHT, WHILE WARMING THE CAR UP, THE ALTERNATOR LIGHT CAME ON (THE BATTERY SYMBOL). I FIGURED IT WAS PROBABLY MY BATTERY AND DECIDED TO CALL AN UBER. IN THE SHORT TIME THAT I WAITED FOR MY RIDE, THE CAR BEGAN TO SMOKE. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THAT ENGINE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE VALVE COVER GASKETS DOWN INTO THE ALTERNATOR CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUT.

THE MATERIAL THAT THE DOOR ATTACHES TO DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE METAL, IT APPEARS TO BE SOME SORT OF FIBERGLASS. I WILL BE SHOCKED IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINING. IF YOU HAVE NOT, THE ONLY REASON I CAN GUESS IS THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE NOT LOOKED AT THIS AREA WHERE THE DOOR ATTACHES TO THE BODY. MINE IS STILL WORKING, BUT IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT BECOMES A MAJOR PROBLEM. THE DOOR HAS ALREADY SHIFTED SOMEWHAT WHERE THE DOOR DOES NOT SHUT LIKE IT SHOULD.THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.

AT 59000 MILES MY 2010 LEXUS EXPERIENCED ROUGH SHIFTING UP THROUGH THE GEARS AND DOWN THE GEARS UNTIL THE CAR COMES TO A FULL STOP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LEXUS DEALER NEAR ME IN FLORIDA. THEY DIAGNOSED THE ROUGH SHIFTING AS A BAD TRANSMISSION THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH THE POWERTRAIN HAS A 7 YEAR 70,000 MILE WARRANTY FOR DEFECTS, THE FACTORY CUSTOMER SATISFACTION REPRESENTATIVE ONLY OFFERED TO OFFSET THE $7,000 COST OF TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT BY $3,000. I DO NOT THINK THAT I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PORTION OF THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS 10 MODEL YEARS OLD IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY DRIVEN LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. MOST OF THE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES AS THIS IS OUR SECOND CAR AND IS USED PRIMARILY FOR DRIVING TRIPS. IT IS GARAGED DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. HAS BEEN SERVICED ONLY BY A LEXUS DEALER SINCE NEW. IT IS MY CONCERN THAT LEXUS HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT THAT FAILED AFTER 59,000 MILES THROUGH NO FAULT ON MY BEHALF. BECAUSE THE CAR EXCEEDED THE YEARS OF THE WARRANTY SITTING IN A GARAGE NOT BEING USED SHOULD NOT BE THE DECIDING FACTOR. I REQUEST YOUR ASSISTANCE TO HAVE LEXUS CORRECT A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION THAT HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR THE 70,000 MILES THAT SHOULD BE THE CONTROLLING FACTOR NOT THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY LIGHTLY USED AND CAREFULLY MAINTAINED

VEHICLE FAILED TO START WHEN PROPER PROCEDURE WAS FOLLOWED, THAT IS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND THEN WHEN GREEN LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON STARTER BUTTON ON DASHBOARD, PRESSING THAT BUTTON. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER FIFTY TIMES. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED AT LOCAL LEXUS DEALERSHIP OVER THE COURSE OF AT LEAST FIVE SEPARATE DAYS. A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF DIAGNOSTIC TESTS WERE PERFORMED AT DEALERSHIP DURING ONE OF THESE INSPECTIONS WHEN CAR FAILED TO START IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHILE TECHNICIAN WAS BEING OVERSEEN BY A DIAGNOSTIC EXPERT FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM, AND SHOULD CALL AGAIN IF IT SHOULD REOCCUR. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECORD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE SO THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. DO YOU HAVE RECORD OF THIS HAPPENING WITH EITHER OTHER LEXUS OR ANY VEHICLES SIMILARLY EQUIPPED, AND IF SO ARE THERE ANY REPAIR STEPS THAT CAN BE UNDERTAKEN? MY WIFE AND I ARE VERY NERVOUS ABOUT TRYING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE WE NEVER KNOW IF WE WILL BE STRANDED SOMEWHERE AND UNABLE TO GET TO HOME OR SAFETY. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE OR AT A SHOPPING AREA, AND IT WAS NOT IDLING OR RUNNING, BUT IN. THE "OFF" MODE. THESE EVENTS OCCURRED 4/3/2018, 4/4/2018, 10/25/2018 THRU 11/1/2018 THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN BETWEEN 5/11/2018 AND 10/13/2018 BECAUSE MY WIFE AND MYSELF WERE LIVING IN ANOTHER LOCATION, AND SAID VEHICLE WAS HOUSED IN A LOCKED GARAGE WITH A BATTERY CHARGER ATTACHED (TRICKLE CHARGER), THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM AN AUTHORIZED LEXUS DEALER. CAR AND CHARGER WERE CHECKED EVERY TWO WEEKS TO MAKE SURE CHARGER WAS WORKING. CHARGER OPERATED PROPERLY DURING THAT ENTIRE TIME SPAN.

MADE APPOINTMENT TO BRING VEHICLE BACK IN AND NOW BEING TOLD THAT THERE IS A PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR THAT HAS GONE BAD. THEY CLAIM THIS ISSUE DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL!! AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FIND COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT CONCERNING THIS VERY ISSUE. THIS SENSOR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN A RECALL AS THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT WITH THE SENSOR WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. AND IT IS A HIGH DOLLAR FIX.

IT FELT LIKE IT WAS ATTEMPTING A "0 TO 60" LAUNCH. I LOOKED AT MY FOOT IN DISBELIEF THAT I MAY HAVE BEEN ON THE GAS PEDAL .NO... MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. MY CAR CRASHED INTO A LARGE ROCK/BOULDER RESIDENTIAL LANDSCAPE THAT STOPPED IT. I SHUT MY ENGINE OFF. PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WAS OFF THE GROUND. FRONT RIGHT WAS ELEVATED ON TOP OF ROCKS. I WAS FINE. VERY SHAKEN AND IN DISBELIEF OF THE RAPID LAUNCH AND SITUATION. RAPID CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. EXTERIOR DAMAGE. UNDERSIDE DAMAGE AS WELL.

INSTEAD, NOTHING MAY RESPOND, OR RIGHT SIDE BUTTONS RESPOND; I.E., CAR BEGAN DIALING A PHONE NUMBER (USING BLUETOOTH). TOOK CAR TO MY DEALERSHIP, ORLAND PARK LEXUS OF IL ON NOVEMBER 20, 2017. WAS ADVISED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE NEITHER OF THESE PROBLEMS HAS OCCURRED IN THEIR PRESENCE. I HAD PREVIOUSLY PAID FOR AN ELECTRONICS TESTING CHECK UP JUST BEFORE MY 7 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED (NOVEMBER 2017). I INDICATED THESE SAME TYPES OF CONCERNS. THEY HAD NOT KEPT OF RECORD OF THIS, STATING THEY DID NOT SEE ANY OF THE PROBLEMS THEN EITHER, SO THE CHECK-OUT SHEET (BASED ON MY INITIALLY EXPRESSED CONCERNS) WERE REFLECTED ANY WHERE IN THEIR RECORDS. INSTEAD, THEY TOOK OFF THE COST OF THE CAR REVIEW PRICE (WHEN THEY FIXED OTHER THINGS). THUS ERASING ANY RECORD OF MY EXPRESSING CONCERNS RELATED TO THESE ISSUES. THEY ALSO SAID IT MIGHT INDICATE A COMPUTER ISSUE, BUT AS THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WHEN SEEN AT THEIR SHOP, NO RECORD IS BEING KEPT. I ASKED WHAT THE PRICE MIGHT BE TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER. BOTH REAR VIEW MIRRORS FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE SPONTANEOUSLY POPPED OFF AND WOULD NO LONGER STAY IN PLACE. THEY WOULD JUST SWIVEL BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING. I NEEDED TO USE TAPE TO KEEP THEM IN PLACE WHILE DRIVING. I HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED AND THE MIRROR JUST FELL BACKWARDS. NOTHING HIT THE MIRROR AND I WAS IN THE CAR AS IT HAPPENED. THE POPPING MIRROR HAPPENED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASSIONS. THE FIRST TIME HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I THOUGHT SOMETHING HAD HIT MY MIRROR AND CAUSED IT TO BREAK. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING HIT IT WHILE DRIVING. I ONLY HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE SECOND TIME CONFIRMS THAT THE MIRROR SPONTANEOUSLY BROKE ON ITS OWN. THIS BECOMES A SAFETY HAZARD AS MY MIRROR BROKE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I COULD NO LONGER USE MY REAR VIEW MIRROR.

HE APPLIED THE BRAKE AND DISENGAGED THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE DEALERS EXPLANATION WAS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS POWERFUL. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS POOR VISIBILITY IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. HE STATED HE IS 5" 10' TALL, BUT SITTING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT, HE COULD NOT SEE THE BACK OF THE CAR; THE END OF THE TRUNK LID, OR THE TAIL LIGHTS. THE REAR HEAD RESTS COVERED MUCH OF THE CORNERS OF THE REAR WINDOW AND THE MIDDLE WAS ALSO BLOCKED BY THE BRAKE LIGHT. ALSO, JUST AFTER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT, THE COVER OVER THE TRUNK WAS SLANTED AT AN ANGLE UPWARD, AND HE COULD NOT SEE WHERE THE TRUNK ENDED. AN OBJECT OR A CHILD WHO IS 4" 5' TALL COULD NOT BE SEEN UNTIL HE DROVE AWAY. THE DOOR MIRROR SHOWED THE HANDLE OF THE REAR PASSENGER'S DOOR, AFTER WHICH SINCE THE BODY WAS SLANTED INWARDLY, THERE WAS NO WAY TO SEE THE TAIL LIGHTS AND THUS GAUGE WHERE THE CAR ENDED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS FORCED TO BACK AWAY VERY SLOWLY IN PARKING LOTS. ON ROADS AFTER A SNOWFALL, THE VEHICLE SKIDDED AND FISH-TAILED UN-LIKE AN ORDINARY REAR-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE. IT KEPT GOING, AND DRIVING BECAME UNEASY. DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF DRIVING, ANYTIME THE HEAT WAS ON, THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC COMING FROM THE VENTS. OTHER THAN A VACUUMING BY THE ATTENDANT IN A CAR-WASH ESTABLISHMENT 1/16/10 NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE TO THE MAT SINCE THE ACQUISITION OF THE CAR.
