I LATER RECEIVED TWO SEPARATE LETTERS IN THE MAIL ADVISING ME TO CALL/TEXT "FIX" TO PHONE NUMBERS 877-244-0533 OR 844-898-7574 BECAUSE MY CAR IS SUPPOSEDLY STILL IN NEED OF AN AIRBAG RECALL FIX. I HAVE VERIFIED THROUGH SEVERAL SOURCES THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT SUBJECT TO ANY FURTHER RECALLS. THESE LETTERS ARE APPARENTLY PHISHING SCHEMES, AS THE PHONE NUMBERS ARE NOT LISTED AS BEING NHTSA NUMBERS. THE LETTERS INCLUDE THE SUBARU AND NHTSA LOGOS AT THE TOP. THE WEBSITE LISTED AT THE BOTTOM OF BOTH LETTERS IS "SAFEAIRBAGS.COM". WHAT DISTURBS ME MOST IS THAT THE LETTERS INCLUDE MY VEHICLE VIN INFORMATION, AS WELL AS MY NAME AND MAILING ADDRESS. THE ONLY WAY THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IS IF MY SERVICING DEALERSHIP SHARED OR SOLD MY INFORMATION TO 3RD PARTY COMPANIES. BETWEEN THAT AND THE FACT THAT THESE LETTERS APPEAR TO BE PHISHING FOR MORE PERSONAL INFORMATION, I AM OUTRAGED THAT THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. WHAT RECOURSE DO I HAVE, IF ANY?

AFTER 72 HOURS OF MY PURCHASE OF THE 2010 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX FROM TOYOTA BOULDER DEALERSHIP LOCATED IN BOULDER, COLORADO, I HAD EXPERIENCED MALFUNCTIONS WITH THE STARTER OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO FAULT IN THIS SITUATION, HOWEVER I WAS SIMPLY MISINFORMED AND THEREFORE PURCHASED A VEHICLE THAT WASNT IN ADEQUATE, SAFE CONDITIONS. ON TUESDAY I HAD EXPERIENCED A LACK OF POWER WHEN STARTING UP THE VEHICLE . I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE IN THE MORNING HOWEVER AROUND NOON I HAD DRIVEN 10 MILES FROM MY WORK AND HAD DOWN SHIFTED TO 1 GEAR FROM 2ND AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FOLLOWING DAY I HAD THEN TRIED TO FIRE UP THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT START. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS ON PAR, THE BATTERY WAS AT 86% OF LIFE WHICH NARROWED IT DOWN TO EITHER THE STARTER OR ALTERNATOR. HOWEVER BY THE LOOKS AND MY KNOWLEDGE OF THESE TYPES OF VEHICLES I BELIEVE THE ROOT OF THE MALFUNCTION LIES WITHIN THE STARTER. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY THE SECOND TIME I HAD TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE.

AFTER GETTING THE CAR HOME AND PULLING THE DRIVER SIDE APART, I NOTICED THE BRAKE CALIPER'S MAIN PISTONS FROZE UP AND WASN'T WORKING PROPERALY , DUE TO SO MUCH COROSSION AND RUST FROM THE CAR, COMING FROM NEW YORK., THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS BARELY MAKING CONTACT WITH THE ROTORS, CAUSING THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR, WHICH IS CAUSING SEVERE VIBRATIONS AND LONGER TIME AND DISTANCE TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR WAS THOROUGHLY WASHED AND CLEANED OF ALL SALT RESIDUE AND RUST. REPLACING BOTH FRONT CALIPERS, PADS, AND SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH MY SUBARU DEALER TO ADDRESS A RECALL THAT'S STILL NOT COMPLETED ON THE CAR.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE RUSTED OUT. THIS WAS ON THE METAL PIECE AT THE END OF THE HOSE. IT WAS LEAKING FLUID AT A HIGH RATE. BEFORE I KNEW THIS WAS THE ISSUE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIKE CAME ON, SO I FILLED UP MY FLUID AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 100 MILES (LIKELY LESS) BEFORE THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THAT IS WHEN I HAD IT CHECKED. THE MECHANICS AT OKEMOS MARATHON IN OKEMOS, MICHIGAN DISCOVERED THE ISSUE. THEY SAID IT WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AT THIS LOW MILEAGE. I PAID $152.39 FOR THE SERVICE AND REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART, WHICH WAS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM THE DEALER BECAUSE OF THE UNUSUAL NATURE OF THE ISSUE.

THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DROPS DOWN. THE SWIVEL PIN THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE CONSISTS OF A PLASTIC SLEEVE COVERING A METAL ROD. THE PLASTIC SLEEVE HAS BROKEN AND WILL NOT EXERT ENOUGH FORCE TO KEEP THE VISOR FROM UNEXPECTEDLY DROPPING DOWN, OBSCURING THE DRIVER'S VISION. I DROVE FOR SEVERAL DAYS LIKE THIS TRYING EVERYTHING FROM PAPER IN THE VISOR TO ELECTRICAL TAPE I HAD PURCHASED HOPING TO HOLD IT UP. NOTHING WORKED. WHEN HEADING BACK FROM NEVADA I DECIDED TO USE A RUBBER BAND TO CRISS CROSS IT AND SECURE IT TO THE HANDLE YOU USE TO GET INTO THE CAR. NOW THIS WAS NICE EXCEPT I WAS HEADING EAST AND EVERY MORNING WHEN I LEFT MY HOTEL I COULD NOT PUT THE VISOR DOWN DRIVING INTO THE BLINDING SUN. THE CLUTCH PEDAL ON MY 2010 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX MAKES A LOUD CREAKING NOISE EVERY TIME IT'S DEPRESSED. WHEN I INVESTIGATED THE NOISE, I NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE CLUTCH PEDAL BRACKET ASSEMBLY (ATTACHED TO THE FORWARD FIREWALL) SHIFTS APPROX 1/4 INCH EVERY TIME THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. I FOUND THAT THE THREE SPOT WELDS SECURING THE CLUTCH PEDAL BRACKET TO THE FORWARD FIREWALL WERE BROKEN. FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE FIREWALL, JUST UNDER THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, I SAW THE SPOT WELDS PULLING AWAY FROM THE FIREWALL EVERY TIME THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THIS ALLOWS THE ENTIRE CLUTCH PEDAL BRACKET ASSEMBLY TO MOVE, CAUSING THE CREAKING NOISE. IF THE BRACKET COMPLETELY SEPARATES FROM THE FIREWALL, THE CLUTCH MAY BECOME COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE - ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. *TR

ENGINE COMPLETELY SEIZED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER ENGINE SEIZURE WAS DUE TO ALL OF THE OIL LEAKING OUT OF THE ENGINE FROM THE OIL FILTER AREA. THIS WAS A SLOW LEAK OVER A 5 MONTH PERIOD. THE BIGGEST CONCERN HERE IS THAT THE CAR'S COMPUTER SYSTEM DID NOTHING TO WARN ME OF THIS IMPENDING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. NO OIL LIGHTS EVER CAME ON, NO CEL EVER CAME ON, THE OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER MOVED FROM THE MIDDLE. FROM THE TIME THE SLIGHT KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE STARTED TO THE TIME OF THE ENGINE SEIZING WAS PROBABLY LESS THEN 5 MINUTES. EVEN DURING THE ENGINE KNOCKING NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CEL CAME ON AT ALL. IF I WAS NOT SUCH AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER I THINK THIS COULD HAVE ENDED AS A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. I COULD SEE SOMEBODY ELSE BEING IN A VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION TO HAVE YOUR ENGINE COMPLETELY SEIZE UP AND STOP WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (68 MPH) RESULTING IN AN IMMEDIATE POWER LOSS, LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND LOSS OF FULL BREAKING POWER WHILE TRYING TO NAVIGATE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY. UPON ALERTING SUBARU OF AMERICA AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS THEY DID NOT SHOW ANY SENSE OF CONCERN ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IF A CAR HAS NO OIL IN IT AND THE ENGINE SEIZES WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT ANY WARNING FROM THE CARS COMPUTER THIS SEEMS LIKE A SEVERE LIABILITY AND FAULTY DESIGN IN THE CARS COMPUTER SAFETY FEATURES. SUBARU OF AMERICA JUST DID NOT SEEMED CONCERN ABOUT THIS ISSUE AT ALL SO I FEEL OBLIGATED TO MAKE THIS ISSUE BE KNOWN TO PREVENT ANY POSSIBLE FUTURE INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING AND HOPEFULLY ALERTING SUBARU OF AMERICA TO THIS PROBLEM SO THEY CAN REVIEW THIS AND FIX THIS ISSUE FOR OTHER SUBARU IMPREZA WRX DRIVERS AND THE SAFETY OF THEIR OCCUPANTS AND OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD. I WAS FORCED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE!
