TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LEXUS LX470. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE ON AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A NAIL SALON. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CALLED AN UN-COMMANDED ACCELERATION. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A PATTERN FOR THIS TYPE OF FAILURE AMONG TOYOTA VEHICLES. SHE HAS NOT YET NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE IS NOT DESTROYED, HOWEVER, THERE IS $22,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED THE DAY BEFORE THE CRASH, THE THROTTLE EXPANDED AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV. THE VEHICLE THEN IDLED DOWN AND BEGAN TO OPERATE NORMALLY. I LEASE A LEXUS 400H AND HAVE JUST YESTERDAY BEEN INFORMED THAT IT IS A DRIVE BY WIRE VEHICLE WITH NO MECHANICAL LINKAGE BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE FRONT TIRES. I AM A HAM RADIO OPERATOR AND UPON TRANSMISSION THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES. NO AMOUNT OF FILTERING OR OTHER MEASURES HAVE ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT THE CAR IS INHERENTLY DANGEROUS AND WOOULD NEVER HAVE LEASED IT IF I HAD KNOW THAT IT WAS A DRIVE BY WIRE VEHICLE. NOTE THAT THERE ARE A LARGE NUMBER OF RF SOURCES SUCH AS BROADCAST STATIONS, TV STATIONS, MICROWAVE LINKS AND AIRCRAFT RADARS THAT WOULD AFFECT THE STEERING OF THIS VEHICLE. MOREOVER, IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT THIS HYBRID MEETS THE FCC EMI STANDARDS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2003-2007 LEXUS LX470 VEHICLES. THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE STEERING SHAFT IS SUCH THAT THE SNAP RING ON THE SHAFT MAY DISENGAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCES AN UNUSUALLY SEVERE IMPACT TO THE FRONT WHEELS. IF THE SNAP RING BECOMES DISENGAGED AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS THEN REPEATEDLY TURNED TO THE LOCKED POSITION, OVER TIME THE STEERING SHAFT MAY BECOME DISCONNECTED.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2003-2006 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470, 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, 2004-2006 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX470 vehicles equipped with side curtain-shield-air bags. The affected vehicles have an air bag control module that may be improperly programmed, causing the side curtain-shield-air bags to deploy inadvertently.

These vehicles may be equipped with an incorrect driver or front passenger air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
