CAR OWNER REPORTED FUEL SMELL. WE INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM HAD FAILED AT THE AFT MUFFLER EXIT TO PIPE, WELDED JOINT. THIS CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO MELT AND LEAK FUEL. THE HEAT SHIELD WAS INSTALLED BUT THE MELTING OCCURRED OVER THE TOP OF THE SHIELD. WE HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DAMAGE AVAILABLE. WE WILL PRESERVE THE FUEL TANK FOR ANY INVESTIGATION THROUGH 12/31/2014. IF WE HAVE NOT HEARD FROM YOU WE WILL DISCARD IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PLYMOUTH BREEZE. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, IT BEGAN TO SMOKE AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH WATER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE WIRE HARNESSES, BATTERY, AND POWER STEERING CABLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 186,998.
WE HAD BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. WE THOUGHT IT WAS OIL LEAKING. WE STOPPED AND MY HUSBAND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. HE DIDN'T FIND ANY OIL BUT THERE WAS SOME POWER STEERING FLUID ON HIS HAND. HE THOUGHT HE KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND WE COULD MAKE IT TO OUR DESTINATION WHERE HE WOULD TRY TO FIX IT. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION, THE CAR WAS SMOKING SOME. I PARKED IN ONE LOCATION, BUT THEN DECIDED TO PARK IN ANOTHER. AS I TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL TO PARK IN THE OTHER LOCATION, SMOKE BEGAN TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AS I COMPLETED PARKING, THE SMOKE GOT HEAVIER AND HEAVIER UNTIL FLAMES BEGAN TO APPEAR BY THE WINDSHIELD FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND YOU COULD SMELL RUBBER BURNING. WE IMMEDIATELY EXISTED THE CAR. MY HUSBAND OPENED THE HOOD A LITTLE TO TRY TO STOP THE FIRE FROM SPREADING. EVENTUALLY HE PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH WATER. MOST OF THE WIRING AND HOSES NEAR THE POWER STEERING AREA WERE BURNT OR DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE UNTIL WE COULD BUY ALL THE PARTS THAT WERE DESTROYED IN THE FIRE.
ON 1/25/13 I HAD SOME MINOR REPAIR WORK DONE ON MY VEHICLE. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT I HAD A LEAK IN MY POWER STEERING HOSE. HE ALSO INFORMED ME OF A RECALL THAT HAD BEEN ISSUED IN 2006 #06V001000. I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE 2004, AND AM IN POSSESSION OF THE TITLE THAT VERIFIES THAT. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER, SECURITY DODGE ON LONG ISLAND, NY TO DISCUSS THE MATTER. I WAS INFORMED BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT MY VEHICLE DID NOT SHOW ANY OPEN RECALLS. THEY TOLD ME THIS RECALL WAS REMEDIED IN 2007 IN COTTONWOOD, AZ. THEY ALSO GAVE ME THE NAME OF THE OWNER, WHICH IS NOT ME. MY CAR WAS NEVER SERVICED IN COTTONWOOD, AZ. AT THE TIME THAT WAS 2 HOURS FROM WHERE I LIVED. I OPENED A CASE WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER WHO INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTACT THE SERVICE MANAGER AT SECURITY DODGE. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS FAR FROM HELPFUL OR INTERESTED IN THE CONFUSION WITH THIS SITUATION. I HAVE JUST READ ALL OF THE INCIDENTS OF FIRE RESULTING FROM THIS HOSE AND I NEED HELP IN GETTING THIS RECTIFIED. IT APPEARS THERE MUST BE A CLERICAL ERROR WITH MY VIN NUMBER IN THEIR SYSTEM. I FEEL THIS IS BACKED UP BY THE FACT THEY GAVE ME THE INCORRECT NAME OF THE OWNER AS WELL. I AM NOW VERY FEARFUL TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. I NEVER HAD THIS RECALL REPAIR MADE IN COTTONWOOD, AZ IN 2007 OR AT ANY OTHER TIME. CAN YOU ASSIST ME IN GETTING THIS RECTIFIED? *TR
I PARKED THE CAR AND WENT INTO THE POST OFFICE. I HEARD PEOPLE STATING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NEEDED FOR A CAR ON FIRE. I LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND SAW THE BREEZE WITH SUBSTANTIAL SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I WALKED OUTSIDE AS THE POST OFFICE CALLED 911. HAVING A CLEAR VIEW OF THE CAR, THERE WERE BITS OF MATERIAL WITH FLAMES DROPPING FROM UNDER THE CAR. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE FIRE MARSHALL INDICATED THE FIRE STARTED AGAINST THE FIRE WALL IN THE CORNER OF THE ENGINE NEAR THE DRIVER SEAT. THE CAR WAS TOWED FROM SITE AND IS CONSIDERED A LOSS. *JS

ON NOV 18, SUNDAY. 2007 I WENT TO CHURCH AND ABOUT 15 MINUTES AFTER PARKING MY CAR, THE CHURCH MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THERE WAS A VEHICLE ON FIRE, AND GAVE MY PLATE(TAG) NUMBER. WHEN I WENT OUTSIDE THE FIREFIGHTERS WERE PUTTING AN UNDERHOOD FIRE IN MY CAR. IF THE FIRE WOULD HAVE STARTED MINUTES BEFORE ME AND MY TWO DAUGHTERS COULD HAVE BEEN HURT. PLEASE ADVICE AS TO HOW TO GO ABOUT RESOLVING MY ISSUE. *TR

SAFETY RECALL 23-HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE THE HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE DID SPRING A LEAK AND BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO MY MECHANIC TO CHECK IT OUT, I DID HAVE AN UNDER THE HOOD FIRE THAT MELTED MOST EVERY PLASTIC PART BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THIS HAPPENED IN FRONT OF AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AT DISMISSAL TIME...LUCKILY I HAD PARKED THE CAR, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND STEP OUT BEFORE FLAMING UP AND THE SCHOOL PERSONNEL PROVIDED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO MINIMIZE THE FLAMES WHILE I CALLED 9-1-1 ON MY CELL PHONE. I FILED A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY BUT THE POLICY HAD BEEN CANCELLED AND I WAS UNAWARE AT THAT TIME OF THIS SO THE CLAIM WAS DENIED; SINCE THAT TIME I HEARD FROM ANOTHER MECHANIC THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM OF THIS TYPE SO I RESEARCH ONLINE THEN CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER WHEN MY VIN WAS NOT SHOWING A PROBLEM. THEY TOOK THE REPORT AND SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO MY HOME AT WHICH TIME HE TOOK LOTS OF PICTURES SHOWING THE ONLY DAMAGE TO BE UNDER THE HOOD, THE HOOD, AND ONE FUSE/BOX INSIDE. AT THAT TIME THE LIGHTS, BRAKES, RADIO, ELECTRIC WINDOWS AND THE A/C WERE ALL STILL RUNNING ALONG WITH THE MOTOR ATTEMPTING TO TURN OVER (EVEN THOUGH IT WOULDN'T).WEEKS LATER I MADE TELEPHONE CALLS TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE CLAIM AND EVENTUALLY RECEIVED A LETTER POLITELY TELLING ME TOUGH LUCK'CLAIM DENIED. NO EXPLANATION GIVEN. POST MARKED JUN 14 ''06, I RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL 23-HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE LETTER AND PROCEEDED TO START ALL OVER AGAIN THE CLAIM WAS DENIED IN A LETTER DATED JULY 12, 2006 AND POST MARKED 07/14/06 DET MI #1 STATING I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN YOUR FILE AND I MUST ADVISE YOU THAT I HAVE GLEANED NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT WOULD CAUSE US TO ALTER OUR PREVIOUS DECISION. ON APPROXIMATELY 01-04-07 I RECEIVE ANOTHER COPY OF THE SAFETY RECALL E23 LETTER NOW CONTACTING YOU BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS HOPELESS TO CONTACT DAIMLER CHRYSLER AGAIN. *JB

MY SON BOUGHT A PLYMOUTH BREEZE 2000 AND ONLY HAD IT THREE AND A HALF WEEKS. HE NOTICED THAT POWER STEERING SEEMED TO BE A LITTLE HARDER TO STEER. I NOTICED H CAR SMELLED HOT TWO NIGHTS BEFORE THE FIRE. HE DROVE THE CAR TO A BASKETBALL GAME AND ARRIVED ABOUT 7:20PM. HE PARKED AND LOCKED THE CAR IN THE HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT. WITHIN LESS THAN 15 MINUTES THEY WERE ANNOUNCING THE OWNER OF A CAR FROM G AND G AUTO IN MERRILL NEEDED TO REPORT TO THE PRINICIPAL. WE DID NOT YET HAVE OUR NEW LISCENSE PLATES YET. MY SON WENT OUT FIRST TO THE PARKING LOT AND I FOLLOWED A FEW MINUTES LATER WHEN THEY WERE STILLL ANNOUNCING A PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THE ENGINE AREA OF THE CAR STARTED ON FIRE AND THE CUSTODIANS AT THE SCHOOL NOTICED IT AND CALLED BOTH THE POLICE LIASON AND THE FIRE DEPARTMETN. THEY SENT FOUR TRUCKS. THEY NEEDED TO EXTRICATE THE HOOD SINCE THE CAR WAS LOCKED. THEY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. WITNESSES SAID THE FLAMES WERE UP SIX FEET. THE ENGINE WAS IN RUINS AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED PLUS THE PAINT PEELED AWAY. I DO KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING COMPONENT AND CRYSLER HAS SENT AN INVESTIGATOR OUT TO THE CAR. I AM AWAITING THEIR RESPONSE. I AM GLAD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN MY CHILD WAS IN THE CAR OR THAT IT HAPPENED IN MY GARAGE WHERE I WOULDN'T HAVE NOTICED IT UNTIL TOO LATE.*AK
SO LAST NIGHT, I WANDER OVER TO A BBQ HELD BY SEVERAL OLD FRIENDS OF MINE. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING SOME FOLKS I HAVEN'T SEEN IN A WHILE, AND LET'S FACE IT - I LOVE PARTIES. I'M THERE FOR ALL OF 5 MINUTES, AND I'M JUST GETTING AROUND TOWARD SAYING HELLO TO SOME FRIENDS WHEN SOMEONE YELLS OUT THAT THERE'S A FIRE UNDER ONE OF THE CARS OUT ACROSS THE STREET. WE RUSH TO THE FRONT YARD, AND LO AND BEHOLD, THERE'S SPARKS AND WHAT LOOKS TO BE A FIRE CRACKER OR FLARE UNDERNEATH THE FRONT END - OF MY CAR! WE GRAB THE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS FROM THE KITCHEN AND GARAGE AND RUSH OUT TO TRY TO PUT OUT WHAT WE'RE SIMPLY ASSUMING IS A PRANK BY A KID IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. WITHIN 30 SECONDS, WE REALIZE THERE'S FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. WE TRY TO OPEN IT, BUT THE HEAT IS GETTING TO BE A BIT MUCH. AT THAT POINT I YELL AT EVERYONE TO GET AWAY FROM MY CAR AND I CALL 911. WE MOVE THE NEAREST VEHICLES AND EVERYONE GETS BACK TO THE HOUSE. TWO OF MY FRIENDS TRY TO RUSH BACK OUT TO OPEN THE HOOD AGAIN AND THE RADIATOR EXPLODES. AGAIN, I YELL THAT I HAVE INSURANCE ON THE CAR AND FOR EVERYONE TO GET THE HELL AWAY FROM IT. WITHIN MINUTES, ROLLING FLAMES HAVE ENGULFED MY CAR, AND WITH NOTHING ELSE WE CAN DO BUT WAIT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, I ASK MY FRIEND ARON (WHO OWNS THE HOUSE THERE) TO GET HIS CAMERA. WITH MY CAMERA PHONE AND HIS MINOLTA, WE START TAKING PICTURES OF THE CARNAGE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWS (WITHIN 3 MINUTES OF THE INITIAL CALL, TOO) AND PUTS OUT THE BLAZE. AN ARSON INSPECTOR SHOWS AND STATES THAT IT'S SIMPLY MECHANICAL FAILURE - THAT IT'S THE FAULT OF THE CAR ITSELF. CAR IS/WAS A 2000 PLYMOUTH BREEZE. *JB
PARKED CAR TURNED OFF IGNITION WALKED ABOUT 20 FEET AWAY AND THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHEN I GOT CLOSER I SAW THE FLAMES. MY ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE WHEN IT WAS NOT RUNNING. TOTAL LOSS. REPORTED TO POLICE BUT ONLY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHOWED UP. *NM
DT: 2000 PLYMONTH BREEZE, CAUGHT FIRE IN CONSUMER'S YARD. NOTHING ELSE WAS ON FIRE NEAR VEHICLE. CONSUMER'S SON HAD JUST BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME. THE CONSUMERS SON SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. *TT *JB
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LEVER CAN BE MOVED WITHOUT KEYS IN IGNATION. HAS MOVED FROM PARK TO REVERSE WHILE SITTING AT IDLE.
CAR STALLED SEVERAL TIMES, FOUND OUT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP, MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE FUEL PUMP AND THE WIRING ON IT HAD ACTUALLY BURNED, THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMP IS IN THE TANK. *JB
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET TO SCHOOL. HE MADE IT MAYBE 2-21/2 BLOCKS DOWN THE ROAD WHEN HE SAYS HE HEARD A LITTLE NOISE AND THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING PROPERLY. OTHER VEHICLES BEGAN BLOWING THIER HORN AT HIM AND HE HAD TO STOP THE CAR, WHILE SITTING IN THE CAR HE SAW FLAMES START COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE, NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY. THE FIRE GOT PRETTY OUT OF CONTROL, AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT IT OUT. OUR CAR IS DESTROYED. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT WAS SUGGESTED TO US THAT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, AND MAYBE OUR CAR COULD HAVE EVEN BEEN RECALLED. WE ARE TRYING TO FIND OUT EVERY THING POSSIBLE ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED YESTERDAY MORNING.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE QUIT WORKING AND EVEN REPLACING THE BRAKE BULBS, LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY SKIDDED ON THE ROAD AND HIT A DITCH, ROLLING TWICE. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE WAITING AT A TOLL BOOTH, TRANSMISSION FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. WOULD CATCH OFF AND ON TO MOVE FORWARD. PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM, TRANSMISSION WAS MAKING A WHINING SOUND. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT WHINING NOISE INDICATED DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION, WHICH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.*AK DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 40, VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND CONSUMER WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. TOWED TO DEALER,AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. SECOND AND FORTH GEARS GOT SO HOT THAT THEY MELTED TOGETHER, CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO FREEZE UP.*AK
WHEN STOPPING COULD HEAR METAL AGAINST METAL. CONSUMER LOOKED AT DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE, PAD WAS BAD. TOOK TO A SPECIALIST, AND THEY SAID CALIPER WAS BAD.*AK
IT FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE JERKING OR STICKING WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND THEY ALSO SQEAK OR SOUNDS LIKE AIR IN THE BRAKES
