The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the rear windshield became detached from the soft top. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
PRNDS appeared in red on my dash and then started blinking. Went on line regarding this and read about a TCM switch or a lever switch malfunction.Have an appt with mechanic on 8/26/21. From what I have read we are looking at a cost prohibitive repair of several thousands of dollars. Does Audi have any responsibility? Apparently it is a common complaint with the A4 model. Felt loss of power when decelerating.
I WAS DRIVING TO JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA AND CAR HAD SHUT OFF ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY IN YULEE FLORIDA I WAS STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 7 HRS MY CAR IS STUCK IN FLORIDA
I ORIGINALLY HAD 3 RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE I CALLED IN TO SEE ABOUT GETTING THEM FIXED FREE OF CHARGE AS EXPLAINED IN THE RECALL TECH BULLETIN .THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDED IN GETTING ALL OF MY INFORMATION THEN AFTER DOING SO TELLS ME THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO UPDATE MY CARS INFO SHORTLY AFTER I WENT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SITE OF THIS RECALL PUT IN MY CARS INFO AGAIN AND ALL THE RECALLS THAT WAS ONCE AVAILABLE FOR MY VEHICLE WAS MYSTERIOUSLY GONE.I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE AND NEVER GOT IT FIXED. NOW THE RECALL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED ARE STARTING TO BE NOTICEABLE ON MY VEHICLE SUCH AS THE DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP, DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHTS AND DEFECTIVE AIRBAG SITUATION WHAT CAN I HAVE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE
WHEN ENGINE IS UNDER LOAD WITH A FAULTY FUEL PUMP, THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHILST MOVING WITHOUT TURNING MOTOR OFF. ONLY REMEDY IS TO TURN ENGINE OFF AND ON, SINCE THE FUEL PUMP WILL NOT START ITSELF BACK ON AFTER THE STALL.
MY VEHICLE STARTED UP FINE AND I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, I WAS IDLING AT THE RED LIGHT AND MY CAR SHUT OFF AND SIGNALED THE BATTERY LIGHT. WE TRIED TO JUMP IT THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERY LIKE IT SIGNALED, AND IT WASNT SO WE HAD TO TOW IT. THE CAR STILL DOESNT START. IT CRANKS BUT WONT START AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, NO WARNING LIGHTS BEFORE HAND AT ALL.

MY AUDI STOPPED BLOWING OUT HEAT FIRST AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE TESTED IT READ PRESSURE DEFAULT. NOT LONG AFTER MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. NOW MY CAR IS LEAKING COOLANT.
THE HID XENON HEADLIGHTS HAVE DIMMED TO THE POINT WHERE DRIVING AT NIGHT COULD BECOME DIFFICULT. THERE IS A RECALL (05V096000) FOR 2004 AUDI A4'S WITH HID HEADLIGHTS BUT THIS VIN. IS NOT INCLUDED. POSSIBLY A KNOWN PROBLEM TO AUDI.
ON FEBRUARY 20TH I WAS PUTTING SOME ITEMS IN CAR.. I STARTED MY CAR TO GET IT WARM IT WAS VERY COLD OUTSIDE. FOR TEN TO 15 MINUTES THE CAR SAT AND WAS IDLING. I CAME INSIDE TO GET LAST FEW ITEMS TO LOAD INTO VEHICLE. I OPENED BACK PASSENGER DOOR WHEN A LOUD SOUND AS IF A GUNSHOT WENT OFF. TO MY SURPRISE THE FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED SMOKE AND DEBRIS THROUGH OUT ME AND MY CAR.
TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATORS, I GOT IN MY CAR AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON , AND IT IS STILL ON. FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS NOW
GAS PEDAL BECAME STUCK WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER BY PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. NOT SURE EXACTLY HOW THIS OCCURRED, BUT IT APPEARED THAT THE PEDAL ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN. I SENT AN EMAIL TO AUDI TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY INCIDENCES SIMILAR TO THIS. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 12, 2016.

REAR WINDOW OF CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP FOR 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET. AN OLD ISSUE OFTEN SUFFERED BY AUDI CABRIOLETS FROM 2003-2009. CLAIMED TO BE CAUSED BY THE ADHESIVE THAT AUDI USES. THIS CAN BE CAUSED BY KEEPING THE CAR OUTSIDE INSTEAD OF IN A GARAGE AS PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT CAUSES THE ADHESIVE TO GIVE AWAY AND FAIL, CAUSING THE REAR WINDOW TO SEPARATE FROM THE OUTER LAYER OF THE TOP AND DROP. WHILE THE WINDOW IS STILL TECHNICALLY ATTACHED TO THE INNER LAYER OF THE TOP, THE WINDOW NO LONGER PROTECTS AGAINST WATER. AS A RESULT RAIN CAN SEEP INTO THE NON WATER RESISTANT INNER LAYER OF THE TOP AND THEN CAUSE WATER DAMAGE TO THE REAR SEATS. THIS IS THE CASE WITH MY OWN CAR AND WITH A LARGE ENOUGH NUMBER OF CABRIOLETS THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SETTLED FRANKLY, A GOOD 10 YEARS AGO WHEN THE FIRST CASES WERE BEING NOTICED. I HAVE AS MANY OTHERS HAVE, ATTEMPTED TO USE A TEMPORARY FIX AND AS A RESULT, THERE IS A CLEAR INDUSTRIAL ADHESIVE AROUND THE TOP AND REAR WINDOW TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THIS, IT FAILS WITH CONTINUED USE.
OIL DIPSTICK & SUPPORT TUBE, MADE OF PLASTIC, CRACKS - BRAKES INTO PIECES , BOTH ON THE DIPSTICK & TUBE THAT CAN EASILY GO DOWN THE TUBE INTO THE OIL BELOW. LOOKS LIKE A POOR ENGINEERING DECISION TO USE PLASTIC THAT AFTER YEARS OF HEATING TO NEAR ENGIND TEMPATURES THEN COOLING HAS A HIGH PROBABILITY OF CRANCKIN AND HAVING PIECES FALL INTO THE ENGINE OIL SUPPLY - POSSIBALLY CAUSING ENGIND DAMAGE OR FALIURE. SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 5 YEARS OR WITH A METAL STRUCTURE THAT DOESN'T CRACK/BREAK OFF INTO PIECES. I WOULD THINK FROM THE YOUTUBE COMPLAINTS ON HOW TO REPLACE IT I AM NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROIBLEM. DEALER PART SALES MIGHT CONFIRM THE PROBLEM.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE AUTOMATIC BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGES THE BRAKES WITH NO WARNING. THIS DANGEROUS AND POSSIBLY DEADLY SITUATION HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER AND MANY AUTHORIZED DEALERS.
PREMATURE REAR WINDOW LEAK DUE TO GLUE PROBLEM WHICH RESULTS IN REPLACING COMPLETE TOP DEALERSHIP SAID WINDOW WAS REPAIRED BEFORE ON PREVIOUS OWNER.
WHEN COLD TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE AND LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE USED. DASH WILL READ OUT WITH (LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPPED) ERROR. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AMONG THIS CAR MODEL
AIR BAG LITE STAYS ON
ELECTRONIC DEFICIENCY OVERRIDING SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER ON THE CAR. WHEN CAR IS FIRST STARTED...THREE LOUD BEEPS OCCUR AND THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS START BLINKING ON AND OFF. FOLLOWING THE THREE LOUD BEEPS BOTH THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER ARE DISABLED. WHEN DRIVING, THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT INDICATE THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE AND THE ODOMETER DOES NOT INDICATE ANY MILEAGE DRIVEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE OIL PRESSURE WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN OIL CHANGE WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY FOR A FEW HOURS DURING WHICH CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, AND CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER JUST AFTER I GOT OFF FREEWAY AND APPROACHED A MOUNTAIN ROAD INCLINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT, OR PRIOR SYMPTOMS TO ENGINE FAILURE, IT JUST STOPPED. WITH HELP, I WAS ABLE TO GET CAR OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND TO SAFETY. TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT, USED ENGINE ERROR CODE READER, AND NO FAULT CODES FOUND. PERFORMED BASICS CHECKED FOR POTENTIAL FUEL VAPOR LOCK DUE TO ALTITUDE; CHECKED OIL, COOLANT AND FUEL LEVELS- AND ALL LEVELS WERE OK. BATTERY WAS FUNCTIONING - AS RADIO, LIGHTS WORKED. CAR HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY SERVICED AND MAINTENANCE WAS CURRENT. CAR WAS TOWED TO NEAREST DEALER, DIAGNOSIS BY DEALER FUEL PUMP FAILURE DUE TO CLOGGED FUEL FILTER. MY ISSUE IS THAT AUDI DOES NOT INDICATE SERVICE MAINTENANCE FOR FUEL FILTER. THERE IS NOT ANY MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATIONS OR GUIDANCE IN EITHER THE OWNER'S MANUAL OR PUBLISHED LIST OF RECOMMENDED SERVICES TO REPLACE OR CHECK FILER. THERE ALSO WERE NOT ANY WARNING LIGHTS, FAULT CODES OR INDICATIONS TO WATCH FOR. I FEEL THAT IT IS NEGLIGENT OF THE MANUFACTURER TO NOT INDICATE ANY SERVICE INTERVAL TO CHANGE FUEL FILTER IN ORDER TO PREVENT FUEL PUMP FAILURE, AND TO ENSURE THE SAFE OPERATING CONDITIONS OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR LOST POWER ON A WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD AND PUT ME AT DANGER WITHOUT WARNING. I AM CURIOUS IF THIS FUEL PUMP INCIDENT COULD BE ASSOCIATED WITH KNOWN FUEL PUMP ISSUES, NHTSA #PE08027. KEY SIDE NOTES, WHILE I AM THE SECOND REGISTERED OWNER, THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED BY MY FATHER WHO WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER, BUT FOR INSURANCE AND REGISTRATION PURPOSES THE VEHICLE WAS TRANSFERRED OVER TO ME, BUT I HAVE ALL ORIGINAL RECORDS OF THE VEHICLE AND CAN VERIFY ALL MAINTENANCE SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG AND TWO OF THE CURTAIN SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,000.
DURING DRIVING CHECK ENGINE START BLINKING AND ENGINE START SHAKING . AFTER STOP AND TURNING OFF ENGINE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND STARTING ENGINE AGAIN EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL NEXT DAY . START ENGINE AND ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON , CAR HAS 2 CYLINDER MISFIRE , LOOSING COOLANT FROM COOLING FLANGE AND THERMOSTAT WAS LEAKING . I TOOK CAR TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND CHANGE THERMOSTAT, COOLING FLANGE , J PLUG , IGNITION COILS AND 4 SPARK PLUGS , CAR WAS RUNNING FINE FOR 1 DAY AND START OVERHEATING AND LOOSING COOLANT AGAIN AND HAS 2 CYLINDER MISFIRE . CALLED MECHANIC , HE STOP BY MY HOUSE AND CHECK PRESSURE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM USING SPECIAL PUMP , EVERYTHING LOOKS OK BUT AFTER TAKING OUT 2 CYLINDER IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG HE NOTICED A LIQUID IN CYLINDER 2 AND TOLD ME THAT HEAD GASKET IS PROBABLY BROKEN AND HAS TO BE CHANGE ?!?!? COST AROUND $1200.00 THIS ENGINE IS COMPLETELY FAILING A PART , I CHANGED SO MANY PARTS OVER LAST 3 YEARS AS I OWN THIS CAR , SPEND OVER $5000 DOLLARS TO MAKE THIS CAR RUNNING GOOD AND ALWAYS IS ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER , NEVER ENDING STORY !!!! THIS MODEL SUPPOSED TO HAVE MAJOR RECALL AND BE FIXED BY AUDI !!!!! *TR
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT, MY 2004 AUDI A4 1.8 CABRIOLET SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I WAS ABLE TO SHUT IT DOWN AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH THE GAS PEDAL. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE TO MY NEXT LOCATION WITHOUT INCIDENT. HOWEVER, AFTER LEAVING MY NEXT LOCATION AND PULLING OUT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AGAIN AND WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE MORE I APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE MORE THE ENGINE RACED. AFRAID OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND TURN OFF THE CAR. THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT A YEAR AGO, BUT I ASSUMED IT WAS THE CAR MAT BECAUSE IT NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN UNTIL FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. AFTER BEING MADE AWARE OF THE TOYOTA PROBLEM, I DECIDED TO RESEARCH A BIT AND HAVE DISCOVERED MINE IS NOT AN ISOLATED AUDI PROBLEM. I'M HONESTLY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF CONCERN THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 AUDI A4 (1.8, CONVERTIBLE) ON A LOCAL ROAD AT APPROX 30MPH, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR SUDDENLY DROPPED FROM UNDER MY FOOT AND THE CAR ACCELERATED VERY RAPIDLY. IT FELT LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD COME ON BY ITSELF (THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS COMPLETELY OFF AT THE TIME). I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PULLED OVER. WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF, THE GAS PEDAL POPPED UP AND FELT NORMAL. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON SEVERAL TIMES, IT CONTINUED TO IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATE ALL THE WAY WITH THE GAS PEDAL DROPPING TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR IS NOW BEING TOWED TO A MECHANIC. HAD I BEEN IN A TIGHTER SITUATION AT THE TIME, IT COULD'VE BEEN UGLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS APPLIED WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ERRONEOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAG INSIDE THE DRIVER'S SEAT ALSO DEPLOYED AND BECAME DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I FIRST HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POP ON MY 04 AUDI A4 CVT THE CODE NUMBER 17090, THEN FLASHING PNDR INDICATOR LIGHTS. AFTER DOING MANY HOURS OF RESEARCH AND HEARING OTHER STORIES ABOUT AUDI CVT ISSUES, I CAME TO A CONCLUSION THAT THE ISSUE LIES WITHIN THE TCM (TRANSMISSION COMPUTER) AND HAS A FAULTY PART THAT GOES BAD. I DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE SO I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR, CAUTION THIS FAILURE WILL CAUSE LOSS OF REVERSE AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT AND SOMETIMES DRIVE. I DID HAVE A CLOSE CALL WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND THE CAR STOPPED MOVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN I DIDN'T HAVE REVERSE AND THE CAR THAT WAS DOWN THE ROAD WASN'T WANTING TO SLOW DOWN, HE DID END UP STOPPING FOR ME BUT WAS PISSED OFF, AND I WAS TOO, NO REASON FOR A 40,000 MILE CAR TO HAVE ISSUES LIKE THIS. AUDI QUOTES THIS REPAIR AT $2500. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY SINGLE AUDI PRODUCED IN THAT SAME TIME PERIOD WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION HAS THIS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A MANUFACTURES DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED SO THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS. AUDI HAS DENIED ME TO HELP WITH THESE COST, BUT I KNOW HAVE HELP OTHERS OUT, SO THEY ARE DEFIANTLY AWARE OF THERE ISSUE. *TR
I'M 26, MOTHER OF A 9 YR & 14 MO OLD. CURRENTLY, I'M UNEMPLOYED AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY $2,500 TO REPAIR THE FUEL PUMP THAT AUDI INITIALLY INSTALLED IN MY CAR. I WAS SO EXCITED TO BUY THIS AUDI USED 4 YRS AGO WITH 80,000 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST COSTLY AND THE MOST UNSAFE VEHICLE I HAVE OWNED...STALLING OUT WAS NOT FUN AND VERY SCARY. AUDI DEALERSHIPS HAVE BEEN TRAINED WELL TO DENY OWNING UP TO THE CAR'S DEFECTS. IS AUDI WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN AND PEOPLE/CHILDREN DIE? I GUESS THE COST OF PAYING FOR THE COURT COST WHEN SOMEONE DIES IS NOT A BIG WORRY FOR THE COMPANY - PROBABLY COST MORE TO HAVE THE CARS RECALLED & SAFELY REPAIRED THAN TO PAY FOR COURT & FUNERAL COST. I'M SURE AUDI HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2003 AND REFUSE TO OWN UP TO THEIR 2003 MISTAKE FLOWING OVER TO THE 2004 MODELS. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT AUDI WON'T "STEP UP TO THE PLATE" AND HAVE A RECALL. MAYBE THE AUDI COMPANY REALLY CAN'T REPAIR THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM WILL ALWAYS EXIST? I WOULD HOPE THEY HAVE SMART ENGINEERS THAT COULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AUDI REALLY IS COMING ACROSS AS HAVING POOR CUSTOMER CONCERNS FOR OUR SAFETY. WHAT A SHAME, I CAN BARELY MAKE ENDS MEET AND NOW, I CAN'T EVEN AFFORD TO TAKE MY CAR OUT OF THE SHOP...BUT, MAYBE IT'S A BLESSING - AT LEAST, MY CHILDREN AND I ARE SAFE BY NOT DRIVING THAT CAR. COME ON AUDI - RECALL NOW BEFORE SOME DIES!!! AND, WHAT IS THE VEHICLE SAFETY FOLKS DOING FOR US??? I JUST AN ANGRY MOTHER HOPING SOMEONE WILL LISTEN & WITH THE BELIEF THAT THE NHTSA CAN HELP...I WISH I HAD NEVER BOUGHT THIS CAR, I'M STILL MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS FOR THE CAR THAT I'M SCARED TO DRIVE NOW. I'M WONDERING BY VENTING ON THIS SITE, IF AUDI EVEN GETS THIS INFORMATION? THIS IS A "NO KIDDING" MATTER THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BY THE RESPONSIBLE COMPANY TO SHOW THAT THEY REALLY CARE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A WEEK AFTER HAVING THE OIL CHANGED, COOLANT FLANGE REPLACED AND THE READINESS CODES RESET THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO THE REPAIRS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER HEAD LIGHT FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE LIGHT BULB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
I BOUGHT A 2004 AUDI A4 WITH ONLY 92K MILES ON IT, ON MY WAY HOME WITH THE CAR I HEARD THIS WEIRD NOISE EVERY TIME ACCELERATE IN FIRST GEAR AS SOON AS I CHANGE TO SECOND ITS GONE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON-LINE I NOTICED THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, THEN I STARTED TO WONDER IF AUDI MANUFACTURING COMPANY HAD A RECALL SEEING THAT ITS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM. THATS HOW I ENDED UP ON THIS WEBSITE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUR 2004 AUDI A4 ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. MOVED INTO THE LEFT HAND LANE AND ACCELERATED TO 35 MPH TO PASS A CAR AND WHEN RELEASING MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL, THE GAS PEDAL CONTINUED TO DEPRESS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR ON ITS OWN AND THE CAR ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. I COULD NOT PRY THE GAS PEDAL FROM THE FLOOR AND COULD ONLY SLAM ON THE BREAKS TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN. THE CAR ACCELERATED FOR A TOTAL OF 15-20 SECONDS. NOTHING WAS PHYSICALLY CAUSING THE GAS PEDAL TO STICK TO THE FLOOR SUCH AS THE MAT OR OTHER OBSTRUCTION. WAS ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. WILL NO LONGER DRIVE MY CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVE TWO YOUNG KIDS THAT WERE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. HAVE READ ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES WITH OTHER PEOPLES AUDI?S ON THIS SITE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT BECOMES FATAL. *TR
FUEL PUMP NOISY AND NOT WORKING. CANT BEAR THE NOISE AS ITS TOO LOUD INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. REPLACED FUEL FILTER STILL NOT USE. BROWSED THROUGH INTERNET AND SAW ITS HAPPENING TO ALL 2004 A4 MODELS AND NO RECALLS FROM THE MANUFACTURER AS ITS COMMON IN ALL A4 2004 MODELS. REQUEST TO FILE AN COMPLAINT ON THIS ISSUE AND REQUEST MANUFACTURER TO RECALL FUEL PUMP IN ALL A4 2004 MODELS. *TR
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS, WE HAVE LOST CONTROL OF ACCELERATION IN OUR 2004 A4. I HAVE PRESSED MY ACCELERATOR TO PASS ON A HIGHWAY AND THE ACCELERATOR CONTINUES TO GO DOWN INCREASING SPEED OF CAR AGAINST MY WILL....ON FIRST TWO OCCASIONS I WAS ABLE TO PUMP BREAKS AND KICK GAS PEDAL FOR RELEASE (AND ASSUMED IT WAS A MAT ISSUE, HOWEVER I STARTED TO QUESTION THAT ISSUE ON THE SECOND OCCASION AFTER INSPECTION OF MY MAT AND I ALSO FELT LIKE THE PEDAL PRESSED AWAY FROM MY FOOT ALL ITS OWN, LIKE ON CRUISE CONTROL EVEN THOUGHT MY CC WAS NOT ON)....HOWEVER TONIGHT MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT, SINCE I HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PROBLEM I KNEW TO FLIP IT INTO NEUTRAL...HOWEVER ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT HIGH RPMS ONCE WE GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED CAR OFF AND ON...STILL REV'D UP. FINALLY ON THE SECOND TIME TURNING CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN WE PROCEEDED HOME AND CAR DROVE FINE. THIS IS THE CAR I DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN AND I HAVE COME ACROSS MANY SIMILAR INCIDENCE ONLINE WHICH IS HOW I FOUND THIS SITE...I WANT TO GET RID OF CAR BUT HAVE RESERVATIONS ABOUT SELLING IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. ALL INCIDENCES ONLINE THAT I COME ACROSS AUDI DEALERSHIPS DOES NOTHING, I PLAN TO TAKE MY CAR IN TOMORROW AS I NOW KNOW FOR SURE IT IS NOT A MAT ISSUE. DID WE NOT JUST DEAL WITH THIS SAME ISSUE WITH TOYOTA. *JS
DRIVING AT 65MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED OUT. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. POWER CAME BACK AFTER A FEW SECONDS. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, WAS ABLE TO EXIT, BUT POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. SIMILAR EXPERIENCE TO THE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ALREADY FILED. SAME MODEL FROM PREVIOUS YEAR RECALLED FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, BUT AUDI HAS NOT DONE SO FOR 2004 WHICH IT SHOULD DEFINITELY DO! OUR CAR HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES, AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING! ALSO HAD TO REPLACE COILS BEFORE AUDI EVENTUALLY RECALLED, BUT THEY DID NOT REFUND THE FULL. *TR
THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE AUDI DEALER HAS A BAD AUTOMATIC TCM TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO SLIP GEARS OR NOT SHIFT DOWN WHEN COMING SLOWING DOWN AND THEN NEEDING TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WILL STAY LOCKED IN 3RD GEAR AND WHEN PULLING OUT ON TO THE FREEWAY OR A BUSY STREET IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO GET UP TO SPEED. WHEN PARKED ON A SLANTED DRIVEWAY OR STREET THE VEHICLE MAY NOT ENGAGE A GEAR ONCE IT HAS BEEN SELECTED AND THE CAR WILL ROLL DOWN HILL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING, DUE TO FUEL PUMP FAILURE. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS DEFECT. I THINK AUDI SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THE AUDI SHOULD RECALL THE CAR TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO OTHER AUDI OWNERS, BECAUSE IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO LOSS POWER ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 WITH INTERMITTENT FUEL PUMP FAILURE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE CAR WOULD STOP RUNNING WHILE DRIVING AND THEN RESTART AFTER SOME TIME. THE LATEST EVENT OCCURRED AT THE AIRPORT AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS NOT OPERATING RESULTING IN $800 IN REPAIRS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND APPEARS TO BE A LARGER PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. A RECALL OF THE 2002-2003 DID NOT CAPTURE THESE OTHER VEHICLES WHICH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SINCE THIS CAN RESULT IN INJURY AND/OR DEATH, ITS CRITICAL THAT THE GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATE FOR RECALL. AUDI WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY UNLESS HELD ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET WITH A 1.8T ENGINE. WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP WORKING. WHILE DRIVING ON THE PA TURNPIKE IN THE RAIN MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS LUCKY IT WASN'T AT NIGHT BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE LANES IN THE ROAD OR OTHER CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I PULLED OVER AND WAITED FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. WHEN I CONTACTED THE AUDI DEALERSHIP TO ASK WHAT THEY THOUGHT IT COULD BE I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION BECOMING CORRODED WITH RUST AND BEING UNABLE TO MOVE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND THEY HAD JUST FINISHED REPAIRING ONE THIS WEEK (SOUTHHILLS AUDI, PITTSBURGH PA) I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED AND 2 WEEKS LATER AFTER THE INSPECTION WAS TOLD THAT THE WIPERS HAVE DEFINITELY STOPPED WORKING BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION. I WAS QUOTED 600 DOLLARS TO FIX AND LEFT TO DRIVE HOME SINCE THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS. *KB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET. WHILE STOPPED THE CONTACT TURNED ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND THE WIPERS FAILED, PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTING HER VISION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE RECURRED TWICE. AFTER EACH FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,834.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO A LACK OF LUBRICATION AND AN INTERNAL COMPRESSION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE ENGINE WAS REBUILT. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCES THE FAILURE WITH THE SPORADIC ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED HE PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AS A MULTI-CYLINDER MISFIRE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH HIS SAFETY WHEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. 2004 AUDI A4 FUEL PUMP FAILURE CAUSES CAR TO STALL. MY CAR STALLED ON THE FREEWAY AND ALMOST CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD, ABNORMAL NOISE AND PROCEEDED TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
I PURCHASED A 2004 AUDI A4 1.8T ALL WHEEL DRIVE IN OCTOBER 2010. CARFAX SAYS NO ACCIDENTS, FLOODING, ETC. AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO AUDI OF SCHAUMBURG, IL WHO SAID THE HARNESS UNDER THE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND CHARGED $507.77. THIS IS THE DRIVER'S SEAT. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TOOK IT TO AUDI EXCHANGE IN HIGHLAND PARK, IL AND THEY SAID IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE AIR BAG BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, AUDI DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. THE COST IS $900 TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS GOING TO TRY TO GIVE ME SOME SORT OF DISCOUNT. PICKING THE CAR UP AGAIN TODAY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND AUDI SHOULD RECALL THE CARS AND FIX IT FOR FREE. IF AIRBAGS AREN'T GOING TO DEPLOY THEN WHY HAVE THEM? WHY PAY MONEY FOR SAFETY FEATURES THAT DON'T WORK? *TR
AUDI DEALER REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS, UNDER MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. WITHIN 90 DAYS WET WEATHER BRAKING IN THE FRONT IS NILL! ONE HAS TO PUT THE LEFT FOOT ON THE PEDAL KEEPING THE PADS WARMED UP SO WHEN BRAKING IS NEEDED, BRAKE FORCE IS AVAILABLE. SOME DEALERS HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED AUDI SOLD PADS THAT GOT WET EASILY AND RETAINED MOISTURE, CAUSING SEVERE BRAKING LOSS. AUDI AMERICA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM AND OWNERS HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE PADS REPLACED AT THEIR OWN COST! WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE..A BRAKE RELATED DEATH AND A LAWSUIT? *TR
RIGHT AND LEFT HEADLIGHTS DIPPED ERROR. BOTH HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING MAKING DRIVING UNSAFE. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO FIX AND RESEARCH MANY OTHER AUDI OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND STILL NOT ABLE TO FIX. THE BULBS ARE WORKING FINE AS I SWAPPED THEM WITH ANOTHER AUDI OWNER. *TR
2004 AUDI A4, QUATTRO, 3.0L V6. PREMATURE FAILURE OF POWERSTEERING RACK SEALS CAUSING PS FLUID TO LEAK OUT, AND RENDER THE CAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, UNTIL FLUID IS ADDED OR RACK IS REPLACED. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT ALL AUDI POWER STEERING RACKS FAIL WITHIN 6 YEARS. DEALER NEVER BOTHERED TO CHECK PS FLUID LEVELS DURING REGULAR REQUIRED MAINTENANCE PERIODS. AS USUAL AUDI CORP."VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY" GOV.'T AGENCIES NEED TO PUT AUDI ON NOTICE FOR SUB STANDARD PARTS WITH PREMATURE FAILURE, THAT CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILED IN 2004 AUDI A4 3.0Q. HAD CAR FLAT BEDDED FROM ABOUT 30 MILES FROM HOME. COST OVER $500 TO REPAIR + FLATBED FEES. CAR HAD 68,000 MILES WHEN IT HAPPENED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS RIGHT AT A GAS STATION WHEN IT HAPPENED, SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF HIGHWAY AND OUT OF TRAFFIC SAFELY. I SEE MANY MANY STORIES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. NOW, NEWLY INSTALLED PUMP IS BARELY 4 MONTHS OLD AND MAKING LOUD NOISES. I EXPECT THIS ONE HAS GONE BAD OR IS ABOUT TO. CAR GOES INTO SHOP IN A FEW DAYS TO INSPECT THIS. *TR
I HAVE A SET OF NEXEN N5000 TIRES. THESE WERE BOUGHT ON 01/02/2009 AND INSTALLED IN THE SAME MONTH. THE TIRES BOTH HAVE CRACKS AROUND THE SIDEWALL. ONE IS WORSE THAN THE OTHER BUT BOTH ARE CRACKING IN THE SAME AREA. THEY ARE ALSO NOT HOLDING AIR AS WELL AS BEFORE. THE INFORMATION ON THE TIRES IS... DOT 8EOL BEBR 4508 E4 0236273. *TR
MY AUDI A4 2004 QUATTRO 1.8L CAR RECENTLY STOPPED WORKING ONE RANDOM MORNING. THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON AT ALL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO AND AUDI SPECIALIST WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP ON MY CAR WAS BAD AND THAT IN HIS PERSONAL OPINION I SHOULD RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM AND CONTACT AUDI CORPORATE. UPON RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I FOUND THAT THE 2003 MODEL OF MY CAR HAD A RECALL OUT FOR ITS FUEL PUMP. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF PEOPLE WITH THE 2004 MODEL OF THIS CAR HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL PUMP. I CONTACTED AUDI CORPORATE AND EXPLAINED MY SITUATION THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE RECALL WAS ONLY FOR THE 2003 MODEL AND MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THAT THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS ONLY RECALLED ON THE 2003 MODEL BECAUSE THEY USED A DIFFERENT PART FOR THE 2004 MODEL. WELL IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY USED A DIFFERENT PART OR NOT BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMPS ARE STILL GOING WIDE SPREAD AMONG THE 2004 MODEL. AUDI NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FACT THAT THE 2004 MODEL IS HAVING THE SAME FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS AS THE 2003 MODEL AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AS WELL. AUDI TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD MAKE A NOTE OF MY COMPLAINT BUT THAT'S ALL THEY COULD DO. IM STUCK IN A SITUATION WHERE MY CAR WHICH I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR AND HAVE BEEN SAVING FOR MOST OF MY LIFE NOW DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE OF A FAULTY PART WHICH AUDI WILL TAKE NO CREDIT FOR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HWY SPEED LIMIT WHILE MY AUDI A4 3.0 2004 STOPPED RUNNING ALL OF A SUDDEN AND I HAD TO PUSH MY CAR ON THE SIDE TO SAFE FROM HWY TRAFFIC. I TRIED TO RESTATE THE ENGINE BUT I COULDN'T START. I FOUND OUT MY FUEL PUMP STOP WORKING BC IT WAS SHAKING AND LOST THE POWER AND SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF. IT'S CRANKING STRONG BUT NOT GETTING ANY GAS TO START SO WHILE I WAS SITTING BY THE HWY FOR 3 HOURS I RESEARCHED AND FIND OUT THAT IT IS FUEL PUMP FAILURE AS 2003 AUDI AND IT'S SHAME THAT IT'S GENERAL PROBLEM IN AUDI'S 2004 A4 AND THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM. SO I REQUEST TO RECALL FOR THIS FUEL PUMP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FURTHER BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

1. ON NOVEMBER 4TH, I TRAVELED EARLY IN THE DAY FROM PITTSBURGH TO ALTOONA, PA USING MY CRUISE CONTROL OFTEN ON THE HIGHWAYS AND ROADS. I RETURNED TO PITTSBURGH AFTER WORK AND I PICKED UP MY DAUGHTER AT SCHOOL AROUND 5 PM. WE DROVE AND WENT TO DINNER. WE DROVE AND ATTENDED AN EVENT AT 7:30 PM. 2. FOLLOWING THE COLLEGE ADMISSIONS EVENT AROUND 9:00 PM, WE DROVE SEVERAL MILES TO OUR HOME. AS WE WERE LEAVING DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH, AND ONE MILE FROM OUR HOME, THE CAR'S ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED DOWN ON ITS OWN, PUSHING THE CAR FORWARD. I STOOD ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR AS WE CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMAINED IN THE DOWN POSITION WITH THE CAR ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. I ONCE AGAIN STOPPED THE CAR BY STANDING ON THE BRAKE. I THEN TRIED TO LIFT THE PEDAL PHYSICALLY WITH MY HAND AND FOOT, BELIEVING THAT WOULD HELP. I ALSO TRIED MOVING THE MAT. THE CAR HAD BEEN INSPECTED TWO WEEKS EARLIER AND THE MAT LOCK WAS NOT PUT BACK ON. THE CAR WAS MOVING ON ITS OWN. I STOPPED THE CAR BY STANDING ON THE BRAKE, PUT IT IN PARK AND THE ENGINE REVVED VERY HIGH AND I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE NEARLY 2 YEAR HISTORY OF OWNING THE CAR. FOR ONE MILE, THE CAR'S ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. 3. IN THE MORNING, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES THE CAR AND HAD CONDUCTED THE INSPECTION TWO WEEKS EARLIER. I USED MY AAA SERVICE TO TOW THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER DID START THE CAR AND THE PEDAL WAS NO LONGER STUCK. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE EVENT AND RETURNED MY CAR IN ONE WEEK STATING THEY HAD OPENED A FILE, CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THAT I COULD COME AND TAKE MY CAR BACK AND DRIVE IT. IT APPEARED THEY DROVE IT 35 MILES IN THAT TIME PERIOD. I AM DRIVING THE CAR AND I HAVE NOT USED MY CRUISE CONTROL. I REMAIN CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND MY COMMUNITY. I AM NOT SURE WHAT I SHOULD DO. *TR
IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON FREEWAY ENGINE STOPPED WORKING WHILE IN TRAFFIC HAD TO MAKE EMERGENCY MANEUVERS TO AVOID BEING HIT BY TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. GOT TO SIDE OF ROAD WHERE CAR WOULDN'T START TOOK TO DEALER WHICH STATED THAT A NEW FUEL PUMP WAS REQUIRED. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2004 AUDI A4 AT ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR JERKED, SHE THEN PULLED UP TO THE STOP LIGHT AND STOPPED. THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT START. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. WE PUSHED THE CAR OUT OF THE LANE OF TRAFFIC. A FEW HOURS LATER WE WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND IT STARTED UP WITH NO PROBLEM, WE DROVE THE CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IT APPEARS THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION PE08027 OPENED ON THIS ISSUE IN 2008 AND CLOSED IN 2008 WITHOUT A RECALL. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2004 AUDI A4 IN NOVEMBER 2007 FROM AN AUDI DEALERSHIP. IN THE FALL OF 2008, BOTH MY HEADLIGHTS AND BOTH TAILLIGHTS ALL WENT OUT WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE AUDI DEALERSHIP AND PAID FOR SERVICE REPLACEMENT BULBS FOR ALL FOUR LIGHTS. ABOUT A MONTH AGO, MY CAR DASHBOARD GAVE A WARNING THAT MY REAR LEFT FOG LIGHT WENT OUT. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THAT YET, AS I DO NOT USE MY FOG LIGHTS. LAST WEEK, I GOT ANOTHER DASHBOARD MESSAGE THAT MY RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT HAS DIPPED. THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT IS NOW MUCH MORE DIM THAN THE LEFT ONE. BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN SUMMER, I HAVE VERY RARELY NEEDED TO DRIVE AT DARK USING HEADLIGHTS IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. I RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FOR AUDI CARS WITH DIPPED FRONT HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS, AND NO RESOLUTIONS OR TRUE FIXES FOR THE PROBLEM. AT A MINIMUM, IT APPEARS IT WILL CAUSE GREAT EXPENSE TO HAVE THE HEADLIGHT FIXED, ONLY TO HAVE A VERY HIGH CHANCE OF THE PROBLEM RECURRING ANYWAY. SEVERAL OF THOSE WEBSITE REFERRED ME TO THIS COMPLAINT FORM. I HAVE NOT YET CONTACTED THE AUDI DEALER ABOUT FIXING THIS PROBLEM, AS I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR JUST A TEMPORARY FIX. AS WE NOW GET INTO THE FALL AND WINTER MONTHS, I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 1.8T ENGINE SLUDGE--COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. AUDI ABSURDLY REFUSES TO HONOR THEIR OWN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE BASIS THE CAR WAS RUN WITHOUT OIL. THE ENGINE FAILED INTERNALLY BECAUSE THERE WAS AND IS SLUDGE BLOCKING LUBRICATION PORTS TO THE MOVING PARTS, I.E., FAILURE. THIS IS MY EXECUTIVE SYNOPSIS, BUT I HAVE VOLUMES OF SUPPORTING EVIDENCE, UNBELIEVABLE AS IT IS TO THINK THIS COULD HAPPEN IN AMERICA. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 3.0 REPORTING "LEFT DIPPED HEADLIGHT" WITH LEFT HEADLIGHT FLICKERING ON AND OFF. WITH NO KNOWN WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, PER AUDI DEALERSHIP, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT ALSO GOES BAD? NOT ONLY DANGEROUS TO THE DRIVER, BUT ON-COMING TRAFFIC! ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED RELATED TO AUDI HEADLIGHT ISSUE! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE & IMMEDIATELY. ~THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO IT'S FAILURE & THIS PROBLEM OCCURS CONTINUOUSLY... *TR
ONE DAY THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON, BROUGHT IT TO CAROUSOL AUDI IN GOLDEN VALLEY MN AND THEY INFORMED ME ABOUT THE OIL SLUDGE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME TO GET MY OIL RECEIPTS READY. I CHANGED MY OWN OIL AND DON'T HAVE MY OIL RECEIPTS AND AM NOW BEING DENIED A WARRANTY COVERAGE. WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE A NEW ENGINE PUT IN IF I HAD OIL RECEIPTS BUT WILL COST AT LEAST 9000 WITHOUT THE WARRANTY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY AUDI A4 2004 DOWN A SLIGHT SLOPE AND HAD TO STOP AT THE RED LIGHT JUST BEFORE CROSSING A MAJOR HIGHWAY (VA 123). AS I SAW THE RED LIGHT, I TRIED TO PRESS ON THE BREAKS AND AROUND THE SAME TIME, I REALIZED THAT THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AS IF IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL. HOWEVER, THE CAR DID NOT STALL AND THE BREAK WAS ROCK HARD. I COULDN'T APPLY THE BREAKS. I LOWERED THE GEAR AND USED THE HAND BREAK TO STOP THE CAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE AUDI DEALER. DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE SUCTION PUMP VALVE SPLIT INTO TWO AND THAT IS WHY THE ENGINE SUDDENLY GOT TOO MUCH AIR AND THE BREAK POWER ASSIST ALSO FAILED. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SUCTION PUMP. THE OLD PART HAS BEEN TRASHED. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 1.8L TURBO - THE CAR SUFFERS FROM A PROBLEM THAT BEGINS WITH A FLASHING OF THE GEAR SELECTOR RANGE (PRNDS). THIS OCCURS CONSISTENTLY, EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED. WHEN PRNDS IS FLASHING THE VEHICLE POSSESSES A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT HAS OCCURRED (3) TIMES SINCE THE ONSET OF THIS CONDITION. WHILE THE GEAR SELECTOR RANGE WAS FLASHING I PULLED OVER TO RE-FUEL AT A LOCAL GAS STATION. AFTER PURCHASING GAS I RETURNED TO THE CAR, STARTED IT UP, AND THE FLASHING PRNDS CONDITION PERSISTED. WHEN I ENGAGED REVERSE TO EXIT THE GAS PUMP AREA THE CAR VERY SUDDENLY LUNGED BACKWARDS WITH SUCH TREMENDOUS FORCE THAT THE VEHICLE BREAK SYSTEM COULD NOT CONTAIN THE JOLTING FORCE OF THE BACKWARDS MOVEMENT. IF ANYONE HAD BEEN STANDING BEHIND ME......THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE MADE EFFORTS TO CONTACT THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER (AUDI OF AMERICA) AND THEY FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE.... ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT THE COMPANY HAS FULL KNOWLEDGE OF THIS DEFECTIVE AND THREATENING VEHICLE CONDITION. THERE ARE MANY OTHER AUDI A4 OWNERS THAT HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM, AND IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON AUDI FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. THE HEART OF MY CONCERN: INSTEAD OF VOLUNTEERING TO REPAIR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, AUDI OF AMERICA HAS ADVISED THAT I NEED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPLACED AT A PERSONAL COST TO ME OF APPROXIMATELY $3,000.00, WHICH I FIND APPALLING. THE CAR CONTINUES TO EXHIBIT THIS DRIVING CONDITION, AND LUNGING REVERSE CONDITION CAN BE REPLICATED. I WOULD LIKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CALL THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE NHTSA FOR REVIEW BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED. I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ELEVATE MY CONCERN ASAP. *TR
MY 2004 AUDI A4 IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS THE 2003'S. QUITE A FEW OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING IT AS WELL: HTTP://WWW.ABOUTAUTOMOBILE.COM/COMPLAINT/2004/AUDI/A4/FUEL+SYSTEM THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE 04'S HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE 03'S. NOTE IGNITION COIL PROBLEM IN 04'S SAME AS 03'S YET AUDI IS ACTING TO PREVENT A RECALL BY HAVING A "CAMPAIGN TO REPLACE". *TR
"INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTION. OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR AND A HALF OF OWNERSHIP, THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT HAS MALFUNCTIONED (TURNED OFF), WITH NO CONSISTENT CAUSE APPARENT. THE SPECIFIC ERROR MESSAGE THAT APPEARS IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION SCREEN IS "RIGHT HEADLIGHT DIPPED". THIS CONDITION IS BOTH UNSAFE, AND ILLEGAL - AS MANY STATES WILL ISSUE A TRAFFIC VIOLATION FOR DRIVING WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHT. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 7-8 TIMES, THE HEADLIGHT FLICKERS, THEN GOES OUT, BUT WILL COME BACK ON WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED, THEN BE FINE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS AT A TIME. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM ON AT LEAST 3 VISITS, AND HAS CLAIMED THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE AND THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE. THEY HAVE SUGGESTED/GUESSED THAT IT IS THE XENON LIGHT BULB ITSELF, HOWEVER IT HAS CHECKED OUT FINE EACH TIME, AND AS MENTIONED, HAS FUNCTIONED FLAWLESSLY AFTER EACH OCCURRENCE WITH MERELY A RESTART OF THE VEHICLE. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED, HOWEVER THEY HAVE CLAIMED TO PERFORM A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ON AT LEAST ONE VISIT. ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE (CONVERSATIONAL, AND VIA INTERNET OWNERS' FORUMS) SUGGESTS THAT THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD AMONG A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF AUDI'S MODEL RANGE AND YEARS." *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON RTE 495 IN LITTLETON, MA IN THE PASSING LANE, WE WERE CAUGHT IN A THUNDER STORM WITH HEAVY RAIN. I TURNED ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS THAT INITIALLY RAN SLOWLY BUT THEN STOPPED COMPLETELY IN THE UP POSITION. HAD TO PULL IT MEDIAN AS VISIBILITY WAS VERY LIMITED. *TR
I OWN A 2004 AUDI A4 AND LAST YEAR MY PASSENGERS SIDE HEADLIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER AND WOULD EVEN GO OUT AS I WAS DRIVING! MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD! I AM ON MANY AUDI FORUMS AND THERE ARE PAGES AND PAGES OF THE SAME ISSUE! DO YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN! AND LAST TIME I WENT TO AUDI TO FIX MY RIGHT (DRIVERS SIDE) HEADLIGHT IT COST ME OVER $1,000 DOLLARS. I JUST DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR THAT RIGHT NOW AND I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT AUDI CUSTOMERS ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AND THE NHTSA OR AUDI ARE DOING NOTHING TO SOLVE IT. I KEEP THIS CAR UP IN IMMACULATE CONDITION WITH FOLDER AND FOLDERS OF SERVICE PAGES SO ITS NOT FROM NEGLECT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM! I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS IT IS BECAUSE THE ONLY WAY TO TURN MY PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT BACK ON WHEN IT GOES OUT IS TO PULL OVER SHUT MY LIGHTS AND TURN THEM BACK ON THEN IT COMES BACK ON AND WILL EITHER STAY ON FOR A LITTLE BIT AND THEN START FLICKERING AGAIN AND GO OUT AGAIN. I AM TAKING MY LIFE IN MY HANDS DRIVING THIS CAR AND ITS MY ONLY CAR TO COMMUTE WITH. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED VERY SOON! *TR
LEFT XENON HEADLIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER, AND AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MORE DAYS, IT WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I REPLACED THE BULB, BUT THE HEADLIGHT STILL DOES NOT WORK. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ONLINE INDICATES THE BALLAST OR IGNITER MIGHT NEED REPLACEMENT. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, GIVEN THAT THE HEADLIGHTS SPONTANEOUSLY STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING ON THE 405 FREEWAY AT 60MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED AND SHE HAD TO GO ACROSS 4 LANES TO GET TO THE EMERGENCY SHOULDER WITH NO POWER. OTHER CARS HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID HER SO SHE COULD MOVE OVER. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE AUDI DEALER AND THEY SAID THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $551. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR FUEL PUMPS ON 2003 A4 AND TOLD THEM THAT MY 2004 HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY DISAGREE AND SAID THE 2004 MODELS ARE FINE AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL REPAIRS SINCE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE EVEN THOUGH IT'S IDENTICAL TO THE PROBLEM OF THE 2003 MODELS BEING RECALLED. THEY OFFER NO APOLOGIES AND I'M STUCK WITH THE REPAIR BILL. *TR
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AT THE OWNER EXPENSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 61,000.
AT AROUND 55,000 MILES, WARRANTY OVER AT 50,000, MY FRIEND (HE OWNS A FOREIGN AUTO REPAIR SHOP IN SEATTLE) NOTICED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS A LITTLE JUMPY. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DOING THIS EARLIER BUT I DID NOT NOTICE IT BECAUSE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THEY NEVER KNOW ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR UNTIL IT FALLS PART. MY NEAREST AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WAS 45 MINUTES AWAY AND I NEED THE VEHICLE FOR DELIVERIES AND PICKUPS IN MY BUSINESS SO I WAITED UNTIL IT GOT WORSE. AT APPROX 65,000 MILES I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER ($99) WHO STATED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO FAIL TO THE TUNE OF $ 6500. I CALLED AUDI, THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL I SEE AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THAT COST ME $ 115 TO TELL ME THE SAME THING AND THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME $ 8500. I ASKED WHY IT IS FAILING SO EARLY, HE COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. IT'S "ONE" OF THOSE THINGS! ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT IT AND HE SAID "NO". MY BUDDY SAID DRIVE IT TILL IT DROPS, IT HAS 74,000 MILES NOW, IT'S GRINDING REAL BAD NOW AND I DO NOT HAVE THE $ 6000 TO FIX IT, NEED SOME RELIEF ESPECIALLY SINCE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED OVER 20 CARS IN MY LIFE AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST GERMAN MADE AUTOMOBILE. I NEED HELP! *TR
I HAVE A 2004 AUDI A4 1.8 TURBO .. 5:45PM ON A HEAVY TRAFFIC FRIDAY BEFORE EASTER WEEK.. MY CALL STALLED WHILE I DRIVING HOME WITH BOTH KIDS. I WAS VERY LUCKY AND FORTUNATE THAT A TRUCK DRIVER GOT OUT OF HIS TRUCK AND PUSHED MY CAR TO THE CURB. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST AUDI DEALERSHIP SINCE IT WAS CLOSE TO 8PM BY THE TIME THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED . SERVICE REP CALLS ME THE FOLLOWING DAY (SATURDAY MORNING) AND SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP INJECTOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOW CAN WE COMPLAIN TO AUDI MANUFACTURER SINCE I NOTICED TONS OF FUEL PUMP ISSUES FOR THE 2004 A4 AUDI. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 CVT TRANSMISSION LURCHING, ROUGH SHIFTING, AND EVENTUAL FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION PREDICTED BY MECHANIC, REQUIRING SIGNIFICANT COSTLY REPAIRS (THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS). FIRST OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS WELL MAINTAINED. I AM TOLD THIS IS A "COMMON COMPLAINT/PROBLEM" WITH AUDI'S. INTERNET SEARCH YIELDS MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON CVT TRANSMISSIONS. CALLED AUDI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ARE MUTE ON CVT TRANSMISSIONS AS AN ISSUE! DEFECTIVE CVT TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY AUDI, NOT BY CONSUMERS. PRESENT MECHANIC CONTACTED OTHER MECHANICS AND, I AM TOLD THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AMONGST MECHANICS? WHY NO RECALL. *TR
AUDI A4 WITH 68,000 MILES HAD MAIN ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO NO OIL PRESSURE. OIL WAS CHANGED AT 8,000 MILE INTERVALS. AUDI WILL NOT STAND BEHIND NAME. ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $8700. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I OWN A 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIO AND TOOK IT IN FOR A VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS SERVICE ACTION FOR AN IGNITION COIL REPLACEMENT ON FEB 4, 2010. AT THAT TIME, THE DASHBOARD LIGHT FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WAS ON CONSTANTLY AND WOULD NOT GO OFF SO WE ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO LOOK INTO IT. THEY TOLD US WE NEEDED A NEW AIRBAG AND REPLACED IT AT A COST OF $746.14. WE HAD NOT BEEN IN A COLLISION AND HAD NOT TAMPERED WITH THE AIRBAG EITHER. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2004 AUDI A4 1.8T QUATTRO FOR FOUR YEARS. THE PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS A MASSIVE ISSUE THAT HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHER B6 PLATFORM OWNERS ALSO HAVE, THE WATER PUMP IN OUR VEHICLES IS VERY PRONE TO FAILURE. THE WATER PUMP FOUND IN OUR US MARKET VEHICLES HAS A PLASTIC IMPELLER THAT IS KNOWN TO SNAP, CRACK, OR LEAK CAUSING THE PART TO FAIL. I HAVE HAD TWO OF THESE PUMPS FAIL IN THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE FIRST ONE FAILED AT AROUND 74K IN JULY OF 2008 WHEN THE PART WAS NEARING IT'S REPLACEMENT DATE. THE SECOND FAILURE OCCURRED IN JANUARY 2010 AT ROUGHLY 98K MILES. SO I HAVE HAD TWO FAILURES IN A VERY SHORT TIME PERIOD. NOW AUDI IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS BUT HAS NEVER HAD A RECALL OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT IS THEIR FAULT FOR RELEASING A POORLY DESIGNED PART. WHEN A PUMP FAILS IT USUALLY GOES VERY QUICKLY. IN MY CASE IT LEAKED AND THEN I LOST AC COMPRESSION. I AM LUCKY THAT I KNOW CARS AND KNEW TO IMMEDIATELY PARK THE CAR AND GET IT INTO THE SHOP. I KNOW THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SIGNIFICANT ENGINE DAMAGE BECAUSE THE FAILED PUMP CAUSED OVERHEATING. THE PUMP IS ALSO PART OF THE WHOLE SYSTEM THAT DRIVES THE TIMING BELT SO A FAILURE COULD ALSO CAUSE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IF THAT BELT SEIZES UP. OVERALL IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND EACH TIME A PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED THE ENTIRE TIMING BELT SERVICE NEEDS TO BE PERFORMED WHICH RUNS ABOUT $1700.00 AT A DEALERSHIP AND AROUND $800-$1500 AT INDEPENDENT SHOPS. I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY UNFAIR TO US AS OWNERS, BUT THAT IT ALSO PUTS THE PUBLIC AT GREAT RISK IF A FAILURE OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN TRAFFIC. LIVES ARE ALREADY AT RISK ENOUGH ON OUR HIGHWAYS AND THE LAST THING THAT I WANT TO DO IS CAUSE BODILY HARM OR PROPERTY DAMAGE BECAUSE A COMPANY RELEASED A POORLY DESIGNED PART AND DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE IT. I REQUEST THAT THE NHTSA LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. IF YOU SEARCH SITES LIKE AUDIWORLD.COM AND AUDIZINE.COM YOU WILL FIND LOTS OF INFORMATION AND FIRST HAND ACCOUNTS. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 W. APPROX 38,000 MILES. FAILURES INVOLVE PLUG & LEAKING WATER PUMP WHICH RUINED TIMING BELT. TOTAL CHARGE FOR REPAIR: APPROX $1700. *TR
MY AUDI A4 AVANT WITH THE 3.0 ENGINE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN FUEL PUMP FAILURE WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THE EVENT WAS NOT PRECEDED WITH ANY CHANGE IN PERFORMANCE AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA INVESTIGATION # PE08027. THE PUMP FAILURE EVENT WAS SIMILAR TO THAT DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL OF THE 2003 A4 VEHICLE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO MENTION OF FUEL FILTER OR OTHER COMPONENTS HAVING FAILED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THERE WAS A POP, THEN THE CAR STARTED RUNNING POORLY. I STOPPED THE CAR AND CHECKED THE GAUGES; THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I RETURNED HOME AND CALLED THE DEALER WHO SUGGESTED I CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAVE IT BROUGHT IN. HE SAID THAT THE VEHICLE COULDN'T BE DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION. HE TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE COIL PACK. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE COIL PACK THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED AT NO CHARGE TO ME, IT HAS RUN FINE SINCE. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW AND RIGHT REAR PASSENGER WINDOW FAIL TO OPERATE FROM DRIVERS POSITION. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS FAULTY, THEY REPLACED IT AND IT. THEY SAID THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WASN'T WORKING BECAUSE THE SAFETY LOCK WAS ON. PICKED UP VEHICLE AFTER THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS CLOSED AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT THE REAR WINDOW STILL DOESN'T WORK, NO MATTER WHAT POSITION THE SAFETY LOCKOUT IS IN. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND SAID TO RETURN BUT BECAUSE OF LOCATION I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER DAY. *TR
2004 A4 AUDI FUEL PUMP FAILURE 1. NO NOTIFICATION JUST FAILURE. 2. THE FAILURE OCCURS QUITE OFTEN, MOST COMPLAINTS WERE FOUND ON YOUR WEB SERVICE. 3. TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE FAULTY FUEL PUMP. *TR
2004 AUDI A4. ENGINE STARTED MAKING NOISE. TOOK TO DEALER FOR SERVICE AND FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED. SEEMED TO BE FIXED, TWO WEEKS LATER ON NEW YEAR'S EVE WE WERE DRIVING TO A PARTY WHEN THE CAR STARTED MAKING NOISE AGAIN AND THEN STALLED AND ALL POWER WAS LOST. LUCKILY WE AVOIDED GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT. HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER WHO INFORMED US IT WAS A FAILED FUEL PUMP. APPARENTLY THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE WITH AUDI A4S, AND A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR 2003 FUEL PUMPS. 2004 FUEL PUMP OBVIOUSLY ALSO HAS DEFECTS AS I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED PREVIOUSLY. *TR
THIS IS DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE VTO FUEL PUMP ON AN 04 AUDI A4 MANUFACTURED DATE OF 6/2003. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS PUMP DUE TO FAILURE, THIS FAILURE WAS PREMATURE AND HAZARDOUS DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PART. I WAS LUCKY AND THE FUEL PUMP DID NOT FAIL WHILE DRIVING. THE ISSUE BEGAN ON OR AROUND JULY OF 2009 WITH A WHINING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR, THIS WAS TRACED DOWN TO THE FUEL PUMP. UPON DEALER INSPECTION AND RESEARCH MOST PEOPLE REMEDIED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER, THIS WAS DONE ON JULY 20TH 2009 WITH A AUDI FACTORY PART PURCHASED FROM AUDI. THIS FIXED THE SOUND ISSUE UNTIL OCTOBER OF 09. THE REPLACED FILTER WAS NOT CLOGGED CATASTROPHICALLY BUT WAS NOT AS PASSIVE AS THE NEW FILTER. IN OCTOBER THE SOUND RETURNED AND KNOWING THE FILTER HAD BEEN REPLACED I NEW IT WAS THE PUMP. ON NOVEMBER 5TH 2009 THE CAR WOULD NOT START, THE PUMP WOULD NOT PRIME. AFTER INSPECTING THE TANK AND THE PUMP THERE WAS NO DEBRIS IN THE TANK NOR IN THE SURGE TANK AROUND THE PUMP. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED MORE THAN MOST CARS WITH PREMIUM 91 GAS USED THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED IT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 60K MILES ON IT AND HAS HAD TWO FILTER CHANGES, ONE AT 30K AND THE OTHER AT 47K DUE TO ANOTHER ISSUE AND POSSIBLE CAUSE. BUT THREE FILTERS IN A CAR THAT HAD 60K IS RIDICULOUS FOR A VEHICLE. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 3.0 L QUATTRO PRODUCTION DATE OCT 3, 2003. PREMATURE FAILURE OF FUEL PUMP WHILE DRIVING, NO WARNING NO SPUTTERING. IF IT HAD HAPPENED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A MVA. *TR
DRIVING ALONG AT 55MPH, CAR LOST ALL POWER. I DRIFTED TO THE SHOULDER, LUCKILY THERE WAS A WIDE SHOULDER. AFTER AN HOUR WAITING FOR A TWO TRUCK I OPENED THE FUSE BOX TO SEE IF I COULD SEE AN ISSUE. FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WAS BLOWN. REPLACED FUSE, CAR STARTED IMMEDIATELY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES. DESPITE BEING UNDER WARRANTY, DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME BECAUSE THE FAILURE DOES NOT "THROW A CODE". FOR NOW I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR WITH MY FAMILY IN IT FOR FEAR OF GETTING STUCK, OR WORSE, HAVING AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN AN INTERSECTION. *TR
LOST ALL ENGINE POWER DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. DISCOVERED BLOWN FUEL PUMP FUSE. REPLACED FUSE, ATTEMPTED TO START, IMMEDIATELY BLEW THE SECOND FUSE. CAR TOWED TO AUDI DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE CAUSE TO BE A FAILED FUEL PUMP. THE FAILED UNIT HAD 1.1 OHMS RESISTANCE, INSTEAD OF THE SPECIFIED 28 OHMS. INSTALLED NEW FUEL PUMP. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 AUDI A4 1.8T. THIS EXACT MODEL IS WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE AUDI MANUFACTURER'S 8 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ENGINES. I AM CURRENTLY BEING DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE ENGINE SLUDGE THAT HAS BUILT UP IN THE ENGINE. THE REASON BEING ACCORDING TO UNIVERSITY AUDI IN SEATTLE, IS THAT: MY CAR IS "TOO NEW." BUT IT IS A 2004, THE CUT OFF YEAR FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
DRIVING SOUTH ON NJ TURNPIKE AT APPROX 65MPH. ATTEMPT TO PULL TO LEFT LANE AND PASS, DRIVER PRESSES ON GAS PEDAL AND THE PEDAL DROPS COMPLETELY TO FLOOR AND CAR ACCELERATES OUT OF CONTROL. THROUGH HEAVY BRAKE APPLICATION CAR IS SLOWED AND PULLED TO SHOULDER AND STOPPED. IGNITION IMMEDIATELY TURNED TO OFF. AFTER CHANCE TO CALM DOWN, DRIVER RESTARTS CAR AND GAS PEDAL NOW OPERATES NORMALLY. THIS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED 5 TIMES IN THE 5 YEARS CAR HAS BEEN OWNED TO 2 DIFFERENT DRIVERS. LAST EPISODE OCCURRED ONLY 3 WEEKS AFTER PREVIOUS INSTANCE. IN ALL CASES, CRUISE CONTROL LEVER WAS IN ON CONDITION BUT NOT ACTIVATED, CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN BY MANUAL GAS OPERATION. THIS IS NOT THE 1980S AUDI SUDDEN ACCELERATION AT START UP. CRASH WAS AVOIDED BECAUSE PASSENGER IS A CERTIFIED HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR AND WAS ABLE TO CALMLY ISSUE INSTRUCTIONS. THIS ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO DEALER WHEN CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. IT HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT BUT INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. IT IS MOST LIKELY A ELECTRICAL FLAW (WIRING?) IN THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. AS WELL AS A CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR, OWNER IS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED OCTOBER 2006 AND CAR HAD LESS THAN 40500 MILES. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON DUE TO PASSENGER SEAT HARNESS ISSUES. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN HOWEVER AUDI WILL NOT REPAIR THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT DOWN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE COILS; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP CAUSED THE FAILURE WHEN IT RECURRED. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK SINCE THE VEHICLE COULD SHUT OFF AND CAUSE A CRASH TO OCCUR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,500.
2004 AUDI A4 1.8T FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT. HAD TO PUSH IT INTO THE GRASS. NO WARNING ABOUT ANY PROBLEM. I USE ONLY 91 - 93 GRADE GAS AND IT HAS ABOUT 71,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 QUATRO, FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW ONLY OPERATES FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT. REAR WINDOWS AS WELL AS DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE CONTROL. *TR
WIPERS STOPPED WORKING DURING A RAIN STORM, LEFT THE BLADE UP AND IN MY VIEW. TURNED THE WIPERS OFF THEN BACK TO THE ON POSITION TO SEE IF THAT WOULD RETRACT THEM. THEY MOVED ABOUT AN INCH AND THEN THE WINDOW CRACKED RIGHT ABOVE THE DRIVERS SIDE WIPER ARM. WIPERS WORK FINE AS LONG AS I LEAVE A CRACKED WINDSHIELD IN PLACE. REPLACE IT AND THEY WORK INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL THE WINDOW CRACKS AGAIN. *TR
IGNITION COIL FAILED IN ONE CYLINDER ON 2004 AUDI A4 1.8T QUATTRO. THIS PART ON AUDIS REPEATEDLY FAILS. LOSS OF POWER, VERY SHAKY AT IDLE AND ACCELERATION. $400 TO REPAIR, BUT NOW CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS RUINED DUE TO THE CYLINDER MISFIRING. *TR
AUDI A4 3.0 WHILE DRIVING TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK UP FRIENDS THE CAR SUDDENLY DIED. ONLY 68000 MILES. HAD TO WAIT FOR A TOW TO A DEALERSHIP. I WAS IN ANOTHER STATE. FRIENDS HAD TO RENT A CAR AND PICK ME UP. TURNED OUT TO BE A BAD FUEL PUMP AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS EARLIER I HAD A BAD FUEL FILTER THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. ONLY USE 93 OCTANE. NOT GOOD. DISAPPOINTED IN WHAT SEEMS TO BE A REGULAR OCCURRENCE. *TR
AUDI 2004 A4 FUEL PUMP FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. WILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE CAR STALLED AND HAD TO BE PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE FUEL USED WAS ALWAYS 93 OCTANE AND TANK REPLENISHED AT 1/4 TANK. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2003 MODEL I THINK THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE CAMPAIGN. *TR
I WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION PRIMARILY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND THE DRIVERS SIDE DID NO. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 1.8T STALLED IN HEAVY CITY TRAFFIC WITH NO WARNING. VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 40,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED BY LOCAL DEALER. DRIVER WAS LEFT STRANDED IN CENTRE LANE FOR ALMOST THIRTY MINUTES UNTIL POLICE AND TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. LOCAL AUDI DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS A FAILED FUEL PUMP. THIS IS THE SAME FUEL PUMP AS THE ONE RECALLED IN THE 03 AUDI A4. WHY HASN'T THE 2004 AUDI A4 BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM AS ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATES THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD? *TR
2004 AUDI A4 - FUEL PUMP FAILURE AT 46,000 MILES. WELL-MAINTAINED VEHICLE (BY DEALER). THE SAME MODEL (2003) WAS RECALLED FOR FUEL PUMP ISSUES. GIVEN THE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS/COMPLAINTS AND ASSOCIATED SAFETY ISSUES, VW/AUDI SHOULD RECALL THE 2004 MODEL AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIMING BELT FAILED AND DESTROYED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WILL NOT START AND THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY AND PREVENTED FUEL FROM ENTERING THE ENGINE. AS A RESULT, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,885.
FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON 2004 AUDI A4. AUDI HAD A RECALL OF 2003 MODEL A4 AND A6 VEHICLES FOR PREMATURE FUEL PUMP FAILURES. I EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE I CAUGHT THIS ISSUE BEFORE A COMPLETE FAILURE, THIS PREMATURE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUES. *TR
TWO OF THE ORIGINAL "COILS" IN MY 2004 AUDI HAVE FAILED ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THESE SHOULD NOT BE FAILING. MY DEALERSHIP STATED THERE IS A HIGH FAILURE RATE. A RECALL OF AUDI COILS WAS LAST MADE IN 2003. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE COILS IN ANTICIPATION OF MORE FAILURES AND UNDER THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEALERSHIP THAT STATED I SHOULD EXPECT ALL COILS TO FAIL. AN INTERNET SEARCH INDICATED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OF A4 AUDI'S SO THE COILS CAN BE REPLACED AND A REIMBURSEMENT TO PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO HAD TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THIS ORIGINAL DEFECT. *TR
THE STEERING RACK HAS A HOLE IN IT AND IS LEAKING INTO THE BOOT. THE PROBLEM JUST STARTED. I NOTICED A SOUND AND STIFFNESS IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH GOES AWAY AFTER THE CAR IS MOBILE FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES. *TR
THE CAR WAS MAINTAINED WELL, AS PER MANUFACTURERS SPECS. BOTH THE FUEL PUMP AND POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED AT 4 YRS/APPROX 60,000 MILES WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE BY TODAY'S QUALITY STANDARDS DEALER INVESTIGATED AN EXISTING FUEL PUMP RECALL ON THE MODEL BUT MY VIN WAS "OUT OF RANGE". I BELIEVE THE RECALL (06V017) INCORRECTLY EXCLUDED SOME CANDIDATE VINS. *TR
A FUEL PUMPED HAS FAILED IN MY 2004 AUDI A4 QUATTRO 3.0L. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP IN THE PREVIOUS MODEL (2003). WITHIN MY RESEARCH, I HAVE CONCLUDED THAT SEVERAL 2004 OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PREMATURE FAILURE WITH THE FUEL PUMP (WHICH HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME FUEL PUMP FOR THE 2003 MODEL, AS WELL AS THE 2002 AND 2001). I WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF 800 DOLLARS AT AN AUDI DEALER RECENTLY. MY CAR ONLY HAS 60K ON IT, AND SHOULD NOT BE HAVING FUEL PUMP ISSUES. I FEEL THAT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD COVER MY CHARGES, AS WELL AS ALL OTHER 2004 A4 OWNERS' CHARGES FOR THE FUEL PUMP FIX. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL, AND I HOPE TO FIND THE REASONING TO BE A SIMILAR INSTANCE AS THE 2003 A4 FUEL PUMP RECALL DETAILED BY THE NHTSA. THANK YOU. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 1.8L FUEL PUMP. *TR
1. THE LEFT HEADLIGHT FLICKERS 2. IT THEN TURNS ITSELF OFF 3. THE MESSAGE "LEFT DIPPED HEADLIGHT" APPEARS 4. THE MESSAGE IS CHANGED TO A SIGN INDICATING THAT THE LIGHTBULB HAS FAILED. 5. HEADLIGHT COMPLETELY OUT NOW 6. REPLACED BULB TWICE 7. AUDI NOW SUGGESTS ITS IGNITER 8. SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS SITE HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM: HTTP://WWW.FIXYA.COM/CARS/T593349-AUDI_A4_LEFT_DIPPED_HEADLIGHT_PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND A RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED FOR THE FUEL PUMP. TWO YEARS LATER, WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 50 MPH, SHE HEARD A LOUD WINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND REAR WINDOW REGULATOR CABLE FAILED. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AT THE COST OF $1,458.33. LATER, THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED IN 2006 AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER A SECOND REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THE REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V017000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 52,000.
2004 AUDI A4 HAS HAD SEVERAL REPAIR PROBLEMS. CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE PROBLEMS. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEMS. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS A BULB. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP WOULD NOT GO DOWN. AN ELECTRICAL PART ON THE CONVERTIBLE WAS REPLACED, ONE OF THE HEADLIGHTS HAD BURNED OUT AND THE CRANK PULLEY WAS REPLACED.. *JB THE CONVERTIBLE TOP BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CONVERTIBLE TOP REPLACEMENT CAUSED DAMAGED TO THE HEADLINER AS WELL THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW HAD A LEAK. UPDATED 02/07/11
TL*THE CONTACTS OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED; HOWEVER, HE WAS NOT PRESENT AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. AT THE TIME, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER IN THE OTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 70,000.
MY CAR IS THE 2004 AUDI A4 3.0 QUATRO. THE PRODUCTION DATE OF MY VEHICLE IS 12/03. WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF APPROX. 45 MPH ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY GOING UP A HILL, I SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THERE WAS NOT ANY WARNING PRIOR TO THE SPUTTERING AND LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE CAR HAD RUN OUT OF GAS. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE, AND FORTUNATELY FOR ME, THERE WASN'T A CAR IN THE LANE TO MY RIGHT, SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. AAA RESPONDED AND, AFTER DETERMINING THAT ADDING FUEL DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. I TOWED THE CAR VIA A FLATBED, RENTED A CAR, AND TWO DAYS AND $750 LATER, DISCOVERED THAT MY PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL PUMP AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER. THE MILEAGE ON MY AUDI IS ONLY 38,000 MILES....VERY LOW MILEAGE FOR A FUEL PUMP TO GO OUT. I DISCOVERED THAT THE 2003 FUEL PUMPS HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT AUDI OF AMERICA HAS DENIED MY CLAIM THAT MY '04 CAR'S FUEL PUMP (WHICH WAS ALSO MANUFACTURED IN '03) SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT 45 MPH, THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, HE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 56,000.
BEEN A NOT SO PROUD OWNER OF A AUDI A4 2004 , AND HAVING A NUMBER OF DOCUMENTS ISSUES WITH MY CALL AND RECEIVING POOR SERVICE FROM MY LOCAL DEALER. AT APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED THE FRONT BRAKES STARTS TO MAKE GRINDING NOSE AFTER TAKING TO THE DEALER THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING THE ROUTERS (WHICH BY THE WAY THEY NEVER REPLACED UNDER THE MAINTENANCE DESPITE THE FACT I REQUESTED THEM TO CHECK MY BRAKES EVERY TIME I TOOK THE CAR FOR SERVICE AND THEY KEPT TELLING MY THE BRAKES WERE GOOD). AT THIS TIME THEY INFORMED ME THAT I HAD TO PAY $320.00 TO HAVE MY BRAKES REPLACED. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS MY DID THE DEALER WAITED FOR THE ROUTER TO THE FULL DAMAGED BEFORE REPLACING THEM. *TR
FUEL PUMP, FUEL DELIVERY SYSTERM FAILED WHILE ON HIGHWAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR ASSURANCE COMFORT TREAD TIRES (NA). WHILE THE CONTACT WAS EXAMINING HER VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM THE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE TIRE DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS ALIGNMENT FAILURE. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND TIRE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
FUEL PUMP FAILED WITHOUT WARNING ON JUNE 14, 2008 WHEN I WAS 300 MILES FROM HOME, VISITING MY FATHER FOR FATHER'S DAY. MY AUDI ONLY HAD APPROX 44,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. I HAVE RETAINED THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP, BUT WAS CHARGED NEARLY $800.00 FOR THE REPAIRS, INCLUDING TOWING. I CONTACTED AUDI AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEIR RECALL ONLY COVERS THE 2003 MODEL, AND NOT THE 2004. AUDI REALLY NEEDS TO PROTECT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND OFFER REIMBURSEMENT TO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE. A FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON THE HIGHWAY COULD EASILY LEAD TO SEVERE INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. AUDI CANNOT CLAIM THAT THEY ARE NOT ON NOTICE OF THIS PROBLEM, AS I HAVE REVIEWED SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VEHICLE. *TR
2004 AUDI A4 QUATTRO WIPERS STARTED TO RUN SLOWLY. SOMETIMES WOULD STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. RAN SLOWLY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. FINALLY, DRIVERS SIDE WIPER DISENGAGED FROM LINKAGE AND ACTUALLY CRACKED MY WINDSHIELD. TOOK IT TO SHOP FOR REPAIR, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE "WIPER TRANSMISSION" WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. WHEN CALLING FOR PARTS, SHOP FOUND OUT THAT THIS PART IS IN "HIGH DEMAND" DUE TO AN APPARENT DESIGN DEFECT. READ MORE ABOUT OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS ONLINE. THIS WILL END UP COSTING ME CLOSE TO $1000 TO REPLACE THAT BAD WIPER ASSEMBLY AND MY WINDSHIELD. HOW COULD THIS NOT BE A RECALLED ITEM? *TR
I PURCHASED NEW A 2004 AUDI , THE CAR NOW HAS ONLY 20,000 MILES AND BOTH FRONT WINDOWS HAVE QUIT WORKING., THE PASSENGER SIDE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND NOW THE DRIVER'S SIDE. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO OTHER CARS THIS MODEL AND IF SO, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A FACTORY RECALL? *TR
HEARD A WHISPING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL WELL. IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER. DEALER INSPECTED AND FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAILING DUE TO PIECES OF THE FUEL FILTER FROM THE PREVIOUS FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT FLOATING AROUND IN THE GAS TANK. 1 MONTH LATER, AFTER MOVING TO A NEW STATE, DRIVING ABOUT 1100 MILES, THE SOUND OF WHISPING OR A CARD IN THE SPOKES OF A BIKE WHEEL WAS COMING FROM THE SAME RIGHT REAR AREA IN FRONT OF THE WHEEL WELL. THE DEALER IN THE NEW STATE SAID THAT THE FUEL FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHICH IS A 30 MILE COMMUTE. UPON PARKING ON MY DRIVEWAY, MY CAR SEEMED TO STALL AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN WHICH WAS AWKWARD BECAUSE THE PARKING BREAK WAS ON AND THE CAR WAS ON NEUTRAL, GIVING NO REASON FOR THE CAR TO STALL. I TRIED TO RESTART AND THE CAR RAN BUT ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN SHUT DOWN. I TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE A FAULTY GAS PUMP. DEALER REPLACED PUMP AND CAR WAS BACK TO NORMAL. SEEING THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS WITH FUEL PUMPS, I ALSO AGREE THAT THE 2004 MODEL SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE LIST OF RECALLS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. HE THEN HEARD A BUZZING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. WHENEVER HE ACCELERATED, THE BUZZING SOUND WOULD INTENSIFY. THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE CONTACT HEARD A SLIGHT BUZZING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED OPERATING WHEN IN USE WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE. DEALER EXPLAINED THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, INDICATED IT WAS A POOR MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY DESIGN AND THE BUSHINGS CORRODE. THEY WOULD REPLACE BUT WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
THE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2004 AUDI A4 1.8T WENT OUT WHILE TRYING TO LEAVE ON A TRIP. THE CAR STALLED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO GET ONTO THE FREEWAY CAUSING TRAFFIC TO BE BLOCKED AND I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. *TR
I OWN A 2004 AUDI A4 3.0 QUATTRO WITH PIRELLI P6 4SEASONS P235/34R17 TIRES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE STORE TO GET THE TIRES BALANCED BECAUSE THEY WERE VIBRATING. THE FIRESTONE STORE EMPLOYEE SHOWED ME THE TIRES LATER ON BECAUSE HE BELIEVED THESE WERE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. A TOTAL OF THREE OF THE TIRES SHOWED SOME TYPE OF DEFECT: ONE OF THE TIRES (FRONT LEFT) HAS A BIG BUBBLE IN THE CENTER OF THE TIRE, THE OTHER TWO TIRES (BOTH ARE REAR) ARE COMING APART IN THE INSIDE WALL (I CAN PROVIDE A PICTURES OF THE TIRES--THE DEFECTED TIRE WITH THE BUBBLE CAN NOT BE NOTICED UNLESS THE TIRE IS PLACED ON THE BALANCED MACHINE). BOTH REAR TIRES ARE ACTUALLY COMING APART IN THE SAME PATTERN. I STARTED RESEARCHING ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND IT APPEARS THAT THESE TIRES WERE COLLECTED AMONG OTHER ELEVEN TIRES (TWELVE TOTAL MODELS) A COLLECTION SITE IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA ON OR ABOUT 2004 TO CONDUCT A STUDY. THE WEBSITE I FOUND THIS ARTICLE IS: HTTP://DIG.ABCLOCAL.GO.COM/KGO/PDF/TIRE_AGING_NHTSA.PDF (SEE APPENDIX A, AND APPENDIX E). I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW I CAN GET PIRELLI TO REPLACE THESE TIRES AT NO COST SINCE THESE TIRES APPEAR TO HAVE A AT LEAST 5 TO 10,000 MILES REMAINING OF LIFE. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER WHICH WOULD INDEED SAVE LIVES. *TR
FUEL PUMP IS HUMMING AND THE CAR STALLS. AND IT REFUSE TO START FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. *TR
ENGINE HAS AN REPEATED BUT INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER. USUALLY OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR AND BEFORE THE TEMPERATURE GAGE SHOWS THE ENGINE RUNNING AT NORMAL TEMP. ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN, BUT WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, THERE IS INSUFFICIENT POWER TO MOVE THE CAR. ALSO, WHEN IN NEUTRAL OR PARK, RPM BARELY GOES ABOVE 1500 WHEN PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED. AFTER WAITING A FEW SECONDS FOR SOMETIMES AS LONG AS A MINUTE, ENGINE WILL REGAIN POWER AND WILL THEN OPERATE NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES FROM OCT07 (WHEN PURCHASED CAR USED) THROUGH 22 APRIL. MANUFACTURER TECHNICIAN IS UNABLE TO LOCATE PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2004 AUDI A4 - 3.0 QUATTRO. I WAS DRIVING ON THE 710 LONG BEACH FREEWAY IN CA FOLLOWING MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL BUS ON A FIELD TRIP TO THE LONG BEACH AQUARIUM PREPARED TO SPEND A DAY WITH HER. SUDDENLY, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND THEN I REALIZED I DIDN'T HAVE ANY POWER. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY, BUT THE 710 FWY HAS A VERY NARROW SHOULDER. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE AS BIG RIG TRUCKS WERE PASSING ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE LITERALLY INCHES AWAY. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GET HIT BY THEM. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE ON A FLAT BED AND TOWED TO MCKENNA AUDI IN NORWALK, CA. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT I HAD TO PAY $80 TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AS MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ONLY COVERED 5 MILES. SECONDLY, I HAD TO PAY $1,100 IN PARTS AND SERVICE TO MCKENNA AUDI TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED. I SEE THAT AUDI HAD A RECALL FOR THE 2003 A4 FOR BAD FUEL PUMPS. I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD ALSO RECALL THE 2004 MODEL FUEL PUMPS AS WELL. *TR
CAR IS 2004 AUDI A4 WITH 1.8 ENGINE AND CVT TRANSMISSION. CAR'S ENGINE WILL UPON ACCELERATION FROM STANDSTILL, OFTEN HESITATE AND STUMBLE. AT TIMES WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC FROM STANDSTILL, IT WILL AT TIMES NOT ONLY HESITATE, BUT ACTUALLY STALL OR HAVE A NO POWER SITUATION FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. THIS HAS LED TO SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS. I HAVE REPORTED TO OUR AUDI DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT A NUMBER OF TIME. EACH TIME, THEY MERELY SAY THAT THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND RETURN AUTO TO US. A COUPLE OF TIMES THEY HAVE SAID THAT THEY HAVE DOWNLOADED SOFTWARE FIXES TO THE AUTOMOBILES ECM(COMPUTER). *TR (EXCERPT FROM E-MAIL 4-1-08) I WAS THEN TOLD BY ONE SERVICE REP THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON THOSE AUDI'S THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE SO CALLED "CVT" TRANSMISSION BEFORE BUT THAT AUDI HAS BEEN UNABLE TO ADDRESS. HE SAID THAT HE APPLIED A SOFTWARE FIX TO THE AUTO'S ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT COMPUTER, BUT THIS DID NOT HELP. *SMCH
VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN IN TRAFFIC (55 MPH HIGHWAY) ~100 MI FROM HOME DUE TO FAILED FUEL PUMP. NO WARNING OF IMPENDING FAILURE. VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE LOCATION. TOTAL REPAIR COST = $602.13 INCLUDING FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT, TOW, RENTAL CAR, ETC. *TR
VEHICLE BREAKS DOWN IN TRAFFIC DUE TO IGNITION COIL FAILURES. REPLACE 6 IGNITION COILS, VEHICLE RUNS FINE AGAIN. THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT OF THIS GENERATION AUDI A4. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THEN SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 29,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000. UPDATED 03-04-08 *BF THE VEHICLE HESITATED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. AFTER A WHILE, IT WOULD JUST SHUT DOWN. UPDATED
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LCD INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY RECEIVED COMPLAINTS ON THIS COMPONENT AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL CLUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 70,000.
HAD ONE PREVIOUS INCIDENT WHERE THE CAR STALLED. IT SEEMED THIS WAS CURED BY REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE CAR DIED WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON THE ROAD. ENGINE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP REPLACED FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. MY CAR IS A 2004 AUDI A4 3.0 QUATTRO. THE DEFECT APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO THE 2003 AUDI A4 RECALL. *TR
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED MY 2004 AUDI A4 AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS RECENTLY IGNITED AFTER MY CAR HAS PASSED THE 50,000 MILE WARRANTY PERIOD. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS I NEED TO PAY 300 OUT OF POCKET TO COVER. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM AS I HAVE NOT GOT INTO ANY ACCIDENTS OR ACTIONS WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED IN THE AIRBAG GOING OFF. *TR
MY 2004 AUDI A4 STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHILE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO ANOTHER STREET. I WAS STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS BUSY STREET FOR ALMOST AN HOUR UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COULD ARRIVE FROM THE AUDI DEALER. AN OFFICER FROM THE CHARLOTTE, N.C. POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IN ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND DIRECTED VEHICLES TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE POLICE AND OTHER MOTORISTS HELPED DIRECT TRAFFIC AROUND MY VEHICLE TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT, AS IT WAS RAINING AND FOGGY AT THE TIME OF THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE A FUEL PUMP FAILURE BY AUDI OF CHARLOTTE, AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT A CHARGE OF $869.18. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2003 AUDI A4 MODELS FOR FUEL PUMP FAILURES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 85 IN SOUTH CAROLINA RETURNING TO CHARLOTTE, N.C. WHEN THE ENGINE OF MY 2004 AUDI A4 STARTED SKIPPING SEVERELY. AFTER PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A WHILE, I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO MINIMIZE SOMEWHAT. THE FOLLOWING MORNING ON THE WAY TO WORK THE ENGINE STARTED SKIPPING SEVERELY, AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE BUCKING HEAVILY. I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE TRAFFIC AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CALLED AUDI OF CHARLOTTE, AND THEY ADVISED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THERE FACILITY IF IT WAS DRIVABLE. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR THERE DRIVING AT 25 MPH WITH THE MOTOR SKIPPING HEAVILY. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS AN IGNITION COIL FAILURE, AND WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $472.04. THIS WAS THE SECOND MAJOR FAILURE OF A COMPONENT OF THIS VEHICLE IN A TIME SPAN OF TWO MONTHS ( FUEL PUMP-6/14/07 ), AND AS A FEMALE DRIVER I AM CONCERNED THAT I'M GOING TO BE LEFT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2004 AUDI A4 TO JACK DANIELS MOTORS IN MARCH OF 2007 TO GET NEW TIRES. THEY OF COURSE SUGGESTED PIRELLI TIRES AND REALLY DIDN'T OFFER ME ANY OTHER CHOICES. SO I SPENT $826.21 FOR NEW PIRELLI IN MARCH, 2007. WELL NOW IT'S NOVEMBER OF 2007 AND I BROUGHT MY AUDI BACK TO THEM AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TIRES HAD TO BE CHANGED BECAUSE THEY LOST THE THREADS AND WERE GONG BALD. WHEN I TOLD THEM I JUST PUT THE TIRES ON EIGHT (8) MONTHS AGO AND WEREN'T THEY WARRANTED, THEY TOLD ME THEY WEREN'T. WHY WOULD AUDI PUT ON TIRES THAT DIDN'T COME WITH A WARRANTY???? I CALLED PIRELLI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. . I HAVE HAD MY TIRES REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ON ESPECIALLY WITH THE WINTER MONTHS UPON ME. I DID NOT GET TIRES FROM THEM, I BOUGHT TIRES THAT HAD A WARRANTY FROM AN TIRE DEALER AND THEY WEREN'T PIRELLI. I WOULD NEVER AGAIN BUY PIRELLI TIRES AND FEEL I SHOULD GET MY MONEY BACK FOR THE GARBAGE THEY PUT ON THE CAR AT SUCH A RIDICULOUSLY HIGH PRICE. *TR
LOUD BUZZING NOISE COMING FROM REAR SEAT, SOUNDED LIKE BAD MOTOR BEARINGS. APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES LATER THE ENGINE STALLED AND WAS FORCED TO STOP VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY POWER ASSISTANCE FROM ENGINE. THE AUDI DEALER FOUND IT WAS A FAULTY FUEL PUMP, REPLACED WITH NEW FUEL PUMP OK NOW. THEY INDICATED IT WAS NOT COVERED IN THE 2003 FUEL PUMP RECALL SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS AN 04. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PRESS DOWN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, THE BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $5,000 TO REPAIR. THE DEALER WOULD NOT IDENTIFY WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE BRAKE LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000. TL*THE CONTACT'S FATHER OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR OF THE VEHICLE. FURTHERMORE, THERE WAS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION THAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A POLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A CRACKED KNEE CAP AND STERNUM. AS OF OCTOBER 5, 2007, THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.
AUDI 2004 A4. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, FUEL PUMP FAILS. BATTERY LIGHT LIT UP RIGHT BEFORE FUEL PUMP COMPLETELY FAILED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP THE VERY NEXT DAY. THERE IS A RECALL CURRENTLY ON THE FUEL PUMP FOR THE 2003 A4 1.8T. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT THE FAILURE IN MY FUEL PUMP IS THE SAME AND THAT THE RECALL SHOULD ALSO COVER 2004? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 AUDI A4 AVANT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID PREVENTS THE WIPERS FROM WORKING PROPERLY. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE WIPERS TWICE, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTS. TO HAVE THE WIPERS REPAIRED WOULD COST $500, SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 70,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING AND ATTEMPTING TO GET UP TO SPEED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN THE CLUTCH SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION FAILED IN-BETWEEN GEAR SHIFTS. THE CLUTCH PEDAL BECAME LODGED/STUCK AGAINST THE FLOORBOARD, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO PANIC IN THE BELIEF THAT SOME FOREIGN OBJECT WAS INTERFERING WITH THE NATURAL RETURN OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN GEAR, AND WAS COASTED TO A SHOULDER WITH THE CLUTCH PEDAL STILL STUCK AGAINST THE FLOORBOARD. ONCE SAFELY ON THE SHOULDER, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND THE DRIVER INVESTIGATED THE CAUSE OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL STICKING TO THE FLOORBOARD. NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE BLOCKING/INTERFERING WITH THE CLUTCH. AN ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE CAR AND PLACE THE VEHICLE IN FIRST GEAR RESULTED IN THE CAR STALLING OUT. THE CAR WAS NO LONGER OPERABLE. AN AUDI DEALERSHIP ASSESSED THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND DETERMINED THAT THE SUDDEN CLUTCH FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE CLUTCH DISK BEING OVERHEATED, AND THE FRICTION MATERIAL BEING COMPLETELY WORN OUT DESPITE ONLY 29,000 MILES BEING LOGGED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS THE MATTER IS BEING LITIGATED. *TR
THERE WAS NO APPARENT SIGN OF THE FAILURE UNTIL TO THE MORNING OF WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A WHIRRING NOISE FROM NEAR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 15 MILES THAT MORNING THE CAR SPUTTERED AND THE ENGINE QUIT AS THOUGH IT WERE OUT OF GAS. FORTUNATELY I WAS IN A LOW TRAFFIC AREA AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER AND CHARGED MORE THAN $500.00 TO DO SO. THE DEALERSHIP RETAINED THE OLD PART.*AK
ACCELERATOR STUCK FULL OPEN WHILE IT WAS PUSHED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN ACCELERATING ONTO A FREEWAY. HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES WITH ONE FOOT AND STOMP REPEATEDLY ON THE ACCELERATOR WITH THE OTHER UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR RELEASED.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IMMOBILE ON A PRIVATE WINTER RESORT ROAD, IT WAS RAMMED BY THE VEHICLE COMING BEHIND AND PUSHED HIM FORWARD HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE FRONT DRIVER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE SEAT BELT RESTRAIN THE CONTACT. THE SECURITY PERSONNEL OF THE RESORT WAS PRESENT BUT THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT WAS VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. UPDATED 02/13/07. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH UPHILL ON A STREET, UPON MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 40 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT APPLIED BRAKE PRESSURE WHICH STOPPED THE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AT A REDUCED SPEED AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. ADDITIONALLY, UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS SLUGGISH WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CLUTCH BODY AND FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. *AK UPDATED 12/15/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED WATER ENTERED INTO THE AIRBAG CONTACTS LOCATED UNDER THE CUP HOLDER. TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM THE CONTACTS WERE CLEANED.
I BEGAN TO NOTICE A RATTLE IN THE RIGHT FRONT WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP. IT SEEMED TO COME FROM THE SUSPENSION. AT THE SAME TIME I NOTICED A SLIGHT THUMP IN THE STEERING WHEN STATIONARY AND SLIGHTLY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. AS THE RATTLE WAS GETTING WORSE, I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET IT CHECKED. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE STEERING RACK HAD LOOSENED AT ONE END. IT WAS TORQUED DOWN AND LOCK-TIGHT PUT ON THE BOLT. I AM FEARFUL OF WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED HAD THE RACK FAILED ENTIRELY. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 27,000 MILES ON CAR. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE USING THE JACK ON LEVEL GROUND IT BENT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO FALL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED.
I AM HAVING ONGOING MAJOR ISSUES (EQUIPMENT AND SAFETY) WITH MY AUDI A4 CABRIOLET WITH NO RESOLUTION FROM MY LOCAL DEALER OR AUDI CUSTOMER CARE AGENTS. I HAVE HAD MY CAR TOWED THREE TIMES IN THREE MONTHS. MOST RECENTLY(JULY 21) MY CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE, LEAVING ME STRANDED 2.5 HOURS FROM HOME. THE ENGINE STARTED TO "SKIP" AND "MISS" THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND THE CHECK OIL INDICATOR CAME ON. I MANAGED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO A PARKING LOT. THE PERSON WITH ME CAN VERIFY THAT THE ENGINE/CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS BOUNCING OR VIBRATING. PRIOR TO THAT, MY CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSTATE 264 IN NORFOLK, VA. IT WAS A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THAT HIGHWAY. THE CAR STALLED WHEN I WAS LEAVING WORK. I DECIDED TO TRY TO MAKE IT HOME ONCE IT RESTARTED. ONCE I STARTED TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE INTERSTATE, THE CAR WOULD SPORADICALLY ACCELERATE. IT FELT LIKE A "STOP AND GO" SITUATION. IT PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE OVER A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 300 YARDS, FINALLY STALLING. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AUDI REFUSED ANY FURTHER ACTION ON MY CAR AFTER REPEATED REQUESTS. THE FIRST TIME MY CAR WAS TOWED WAS FROM MY OWN LOCAL STREET: THE SAFEST PLACE OF THREE LOCATIONS WHERE I'VE BEEN TOWED. THE DEALER MAINTAINS THEY CAN NOT FIND A PROBLEM FOR THE SECOND AND THIRD TOWS. I FEAR FOR MY OWN SAFETY TO RIDE IN THIS AUDI CAR. FAMILY MEMBERS NOW REFUSE TO RIDE IN THIS PRODUCT. FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS HAVE WITNESSED THE PROBLEMS FIRST HAND AS WELL. I HAVE MADE REPEATED REQUESTS TO AUDIO CUSTOMER CARE TO: 1. GET THE CAR REPAIRED PROPERLY 2. REPLACE THE ENGINE 3. EXTEND THE WARRANTY 4. OFFER A REASONABLE TRADE-IN 5. BUY BACK THE CAR I HAVE BEEN REJECTED ALL ALONG THE WAY. I AM AGAIN BEGGING AND PLEADING FOR SOMEONE AT AUDI TO OFFER REASONABLE HELP HERE. I'M NOT ASKING FOR MUCH. I'M SIMPLY ASKING FOR A CAR THAT RUNS TO ANY ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS WHERE I CAN BELIEVE I AM SAFE. PLEASE HELP. *NM
2004 AUDI A4 3.0 CABRIOLET DOES NOT MOVE WHEN SHIFTED INTO GEAR. *TS ***NAR***
I OWE A 2004 AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE. IN LATE FEBRUARY OF 06, I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WHEN I PUT THE GEAR ON D (DRIVE) OR R (REVERSE) AND GAVE GAS; THE CAR DID NOT MOVE AT ALL. DASH BOARD INSTRUMENT WAS NOT RESPONSIVE EITHER. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THIS WAS DUE TO COLD WEATHER. ON MARCH 13, 06, I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS IN A VERY BUSY AREA OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA. THE CAR WAS WARM AS IT HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS. I APPROACHED A BUSY INTERSECTION TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. WHEN THE ROAD WAS CLEARED, I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE FORWARD BUT THE CAR WAS TOTALLY FROZEN - IT WOULD NOT MOVE REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS NOW FACING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC OF THREE CARS BLOWING THEIR HORNS LIKE CRAZY. I JUST COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR AND WAS TERRIFIED THAT I WOULD BE HIT BY THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR. I WAS VERY SCARED AND CALLED THE AUDI OF TYSONS CORNER (HBL) IN VIENNA, VIRGINIA IMMEDIATELY AND TOOK THE CAR IN THAT DAY. THE NEXT DAY (3/14) AFTERNOON, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATING THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I INSISTED THAT THEY RECHECK AS I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES AND THAT THE LAST INCIDENT WAS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL AS I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THEY AGREED AND KEPT THE CAR FOR ANOTHER DAY; HOWEVER, THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED AND SAID THE SAME THING - NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I PICKED THE CAR ON MARCH 16, 06. WHILE WAITING IN THE LOBBY, I SAW ANOTHER AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE DRIVER. I APPROACHED HER ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE AND ASKED IF SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. SHE SAID YES AND THAT IS WHY SHE BROUGHT HER CAR IN ALONG WITH A REGULAR SERVICE CHECK. SHE RECEIVED THE SAME FEEDBACK FROM THE AUDI OF TYSONS - NOTHING WRONG WITH HER CAR EITHER. I HAVE THE NAME, PHONE NUMBER, ETC., OF THE OTHER DRIVER IF NEEDED. *JB
MY CAR INTERMITTENTLY DOES NOT MOVE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT IN DRIVE. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED SO FAR WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. IT HAPPENED TO ME YESTERDAY AS I WAS TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION AND THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME BECAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE I SHOULD BE MOVING. I HAVE A CVT TRANSMISSION.
AS AN OWNER OF A 2004 AUDI A4 W/ PIRELLI P6 FOUR SEASON 17" TIRES HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED NOT WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE BUT THE TIRES. ALL OF THE FAILURES HAVE BEEN UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 18,300 MILES ON 3/16/06. THE TIRES IN ALL FAILURES HAVE DEVELOPED BUBBLES ON THE SIDE WALLS AND/OR HAVE BLOWN OUT WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY NO INJURIES TO ANYBODY HAS OCCURRED DURING EACH INCIDENT AND THE TIRES EACH TIME HAD TO BE REPLACED AT $145.00 A TIRE. I FILED A COMPLAINT W/ BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (BBB) TO RECEIVE SOME TYPE OF COMPENSATION AND PIRELLI DID INDEED MAIL A CHECK FOR A DISCLOSED AMOUNT. I WISH MORE COMPLAINTS TO THE BBB WOULD BE FILED ALSO TO DOCUMENT THIS ON GOING PROBLEM WITH PIRELLI TIRE AND THIS ACTUAL TIRE. *NM
BUBBLES IN PIRELLI P6 ALL SEASON TIRES AFTER 6000 MILES OF USE, NORMAL DRIVING. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED ALL FOUR ORIGINAL TIRES HAD BLOW OUTS BETWEEN 3/1/04 AND 12/1/05. AFTER EACH BLOW OUT, THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FIRST BLOW OUT OCCURRED WHEN THE CONTACT HIT A POT HOLE AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE SECOND BLOWOUT OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CONTACT HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AT 40 MPH. THE THIRD OCCURRED WHEN HITTING A POT HOLE AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED. THE LAST BLOW OUT HAPPENED WHEN HITTING A POT HOLE AT 40 MPH. IN TWO OF THE INCIDENTS THE WHEEL WAS ALSO DAMAGED. EVERY TIRE APPEARED TO HAVE SIDEWALL DAMAGE. THE TIRES WERE REGULARLY SERVICED. THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THERE WAS NO WARRANTY FOR ROAD HAZARDS.*AK UPDATED 02/07/06. *JB
AUDI JACK CAME WITH MY 2004 AUDI A4 QUATTRO SEDAN BROKE WHILE PUTTING A WHEEL. I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT SO THE SURFACE IS FLAT. I USE THE USE THE JACK THAT CAME WITH MY CAR TO JACK UP THE CAR SO THAT I CAN REPLACE MY WHEEL. THE JACK BROKE AS I WAS PUTTING ON THE WHEEL TRYING TO ALIGN THE HOLES TO PUT BACK THE BOLTS. THE JACK JUST SNAPPED LUCKILY MY FINGERS AND HAND DID NOT GET CAUGHT AND I WAS NOT UNDER THE CAR. THE JACK WAS BROKE TODAY AUGUST 5, 2005 AT AROUND 4:00PM PACIFIC TIME. I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP 10 MINUTES TO 5:00PM AND THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT ALL THE TECHNICIAN HAVE GONE HOME FOR THE DAY AND THEY ASK ME TO CONTACT AUDI USA. I CANNOT REACH AUDI USA BECAUSE THEY HAVE CLOSE FOR THE DAY. I WILL TRY TO CONTACT THEM ON MONDAY. THE POINT TO MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE JACK IS UNSAFE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE JACK THE COME WITH ALL AUDI CARS. THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE AUDI JACK. THANK YOU, KENNY,. *JB
WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON MY 2004 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET STUCK TO THE FLOOR. AT THE TIME, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH. THE PEDAL SUDDENLY MOVED AWAY FROM MY FOOT, STUCK TO THE FLOOR, AND MY CAR STARTED TO RAPIDLY INCREASE IN SPEED. NOT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON, I HIT THE BRAKES, TO NO AVAIL. THE ENGINE WAS SCREAMING AS THE RPMS RACED INTO THE 7000S. I TRIED TO JIGGLE THE GAS PEDAL FREE WITH MY FOOT, BUT IT WAS STUCK AND WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE BRAKES, WHICH I PRESSED ON AGAIN WITH ALL MY STRENGTH, WOULD NOT OVERPOWER THE ENGINE. I THREW THE MANAUL TRANSMISSION INTO "PARK" BUT THAT DID NOT STOP THE CAR EITHER. I FINALLY TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THE CAR CAME TO A GRINDING HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE CLOSET AUDI DEALERSHIP, HOEHN AUDI. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS BUT TOLD ME SINCE THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT DETECT ANY MALFUNCTIONS IN THE CAR'S COMPUTER, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR NOR WAS THERE ANYTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. IN FACT, THEY TRIED TO TELL ME THAT THE ACCELERATOR MAY HAVE GOTTEN STUCK UNDER THE FLOOR MAT. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE AND THAT I WAS LOOKING AT THE ACCELERATOR AS I WAS TRYING TO GET IT UNSTUCK AND THERE WAS NO FLOOR MAT IN THE WAY. I ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH AUDI'S CUSTOMER CARE ADVOCATES. MY COMPLAINT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO THE AUDI DEALERSHIP WHERE I LEASED THE VEHICLE, MIRAMAR AUDI, FOR A SECOND OPINION. THEY, TOO, TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DETECT ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO FOR ME. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY BELIEVED AUDI CORPORATE WAS INVOLVED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE WITH THE NAME OF ANYONE AT AUDI CORPORATE WITH WHOM I COULD DISCUSS THE ISSUE FURTHER. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY HAD THREE OTHER AUDIS IN THEIR SERVICE DEPT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM.
DT: THERE IS AN OILY FILM THAT DEVELOPS ON THE INTERIOR OF THE WINDOWS, CAN'T WIPE IT OFF BECAUSE IT SMEARS. TRAVELED 80 MILES A DAY FOR WORK. DOESN'T HAPPEN IN THE WINTER, BUT HAPPENS IN WARM WEATHER. DEALER PUT IN A NEW WINDSHIELD WHICH WAS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. *AK THE OILY FILM CONTINUED TO COVER THE WINDSHIELD AT 11,000 MILES. AUDI DOESN'T PROVIDE A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM AND CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS CAN CREATE A DANGEROUS PROBLEM *SB
2004 AUDI A4 ACCELERATED FULL THROTTLE WITH PEDAL STUCK TO FLOOR ON 5/20/05. CAR WOULD NOT DECELERATE AND BRAKING HELPED AVERT ACCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER AND TESTING FOUND NOTHING.
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONSUMER HIT A POT HOLE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS FLAT. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TIRE. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITH FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. *AK THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURRED WITH THE CONSUMERS PARENTS' VEHICLE WHICH WAS EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME TIRES. *SC *JB
AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 AUDI A-4 EQUIPPED WITH PIRELLI P-6 P235/45 R-17 TIRES. THESE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND THE VEHICLE. AT APPROXIMATELY 12000 MILES THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE DEVELOPED A LARGE SIDEWALL BUBBLE. THIS TIRE WAS IMMEDIATELY REPLACED. NOW A WEEK LATER AND APPROXIMATELY 300 MORE MILES, THE SAME PROBLEM HAS DEVELOPED AT THE DRIVER"S SIDE FRONT TIRE. *JB
AUDI A4 1.8T 2004, AIR BAG DEFECT. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. *JB
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 AUDI A-4 EQUIPPED WITH PIRELLI P-6 P235/45 R-17 TIRES. THESE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHESED FROM BELL AUDI OF RAHWAY, NJ. AT APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES THE REAR RIGHT TIRE DEVELOPED A LARGE SIDEWALL BUBBLE. THIS TIRE WAS IMMEDIATELY RELPACED WITH THE FULL SIZE SPARE (SAME TYPE, MODEL AND RIM). CALLS TO THE DEALERSHIP, AUDI, USA AND PIRELLI WERE MET WITH LIMITED INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE AT BEST. IN SUBSTANCE, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD / WOULD DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. NOW A APPROXIMATELY 6000 MILES (3000 ON THE REPLACEMENT), THE SAME PROBLEM HAS DEVELOPED AT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. CALLS ONCE AGAIN ARE APPARENTLY FALLING UPON DEAF EARS. UNDOUBTABLY WE HAVE A SAFTY ISSUE HERE (AS INDICATED BY SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS LODGED BY OTHER OWNERS OF P-6 TIRES) WHICH IS BEING INGNORE BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER AS WELL AS AUDI, USA AND ITS DEALERS. IN VIEW OF THE LACK OF RESPONSE, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THE SAFETY ISSUE, I'LL BE FORCED TO REPLACE ALL OF THESE OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. I'M REQUESTING THAT THE NHTSA MAKE FURTHER INQUIRIES INTO THIS MATTER. I WILL ALSO BE VERY WILLING TO PROVIDE MY DEFECTIVE TIRES TO THE NHTSA, OR ANY OTHER INDEPENDENT AGENCY, FOR TESTING, ETC. FURTHERMORE, IF THE NHTSA, OTHER GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES, COMPLAINTANTS, OWNERS, DEALERS, CONSUMER GROUPS, ARE INTERESTED IN PURSUING LEGAL RECOURSE PLEASE CONTACT ME AS I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO ASSIST IN ENTERING INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST PIRELLI, AUDI, ETC. I AM EGERLY AWAITING YOUR RESPONSE. THANK YOU.*AK
THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON. THE CONSUMER HAD THE AIR BAG REPLACED AND THE DEALER HAS SERVICED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO STAY ON. *JB
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE PROCEED TO LAUCH FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THE RPM'S WERE IN THE RED, VEHICHLE HAD TO BE PUT IN NEUTRAL AND ENGINE TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID DAMAGE. VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, WHEN WE HIT THIRD GEAR, VEHICLE AGAIN LAUCHED FORWARD, PEDAL WAS PRACTICALY GLUED TO THE FLOOR, TRYING TO PRY PEDAL UP WITH FOOT WAS NO USE, AGAIN PUT IN NEUTRAL AND PULLED OVER CAR AND TURNED OFF ENGINE. WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR FOR THE THIRD TIME, WE SAT WITH IT IN NEUTRAL AND ENGINE BEGAN TO RAISE. CAR WAS BEING TOWED TO DEALER. WE HAVE NOT HEARD ANY OUTCOME, BUT WE ARE VERY SCARED TO EVER DRIVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN.*AK
MY 2004 AUDI A4 3.0 CABRIOLET HAS WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHICH AT ABOUT 8,000 MILES OF WEAR BEGAN TO MAKE AN UNBEARABLY LOUD, RYTHMICALLY REPETITIVE SOUND ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE SELLING DEALER, CHERRY HILL IMPORTS, HAS REPEATEDLY LOOKED AT THE PROBLEM AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT THIS SOUND, BUT THE CAR DID NOT DO IT WHEN IT WAS NEW. IN SEVERE WEATHER , I HAVE RESORTED TO TURNING OFF THE WIPERS FOR A FEW SECONDS AT A TIME IN ORDER NOT TO BE HYPNOTIZED BY THE REPETITIVE SOUND OF THE DEFECT. THIS, OF COURSE, IS A SAFETY HAZARD, BUT I FEEL BEING PUT TO SLEEP WHILE DRIVING IS MORE DANGEROUS, SHOULD THE DEFECT LEAD TO THAT. DEALERSHIPS BESIDES CHERRY HILL IMPORTS HAVE REPLACED THE BLADES ON THE CAR, BUT THE EFFECT OF THIS REMEDY WAS NON-EXISTENT. I FEEL IT IS MY DUTY TO REQUEST THE AID OF THE NHSTA TO SAVE THE LIVES OF AUDI OWNERS WHO LABOR UNDER THIS HAZARD, AS WELL AS MY OWN. THANKS.*AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER CAME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE STALLED. *JB
PIRELLI TIRE P235/45R17 DOT XBCUC23640. TIRES ARE EXPERIENCING SIDEWALL BUBBLES.
VEHICLE HEATED UP UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING 50 MPH OR GREATER. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR EIGHT DAYS AND FOUND THE SAME FLAW AS THE CONSUMER. MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING UNDER NORMAL RANGE, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *AK *NM
MY 2004 AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE HAS HAD THE TOP FAIL MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR ONLY HAS 4600 MILES ON IT. 1ST INCIDENT WAS IN APRIL 2004 AND CONTINUES TO TODAY. SEPT 9 WWAS THE LAST INCIDENT AND THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALER. I NOTIFIED AUDI FOUR TIMES AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN A RESPONSE. THE TOP GETS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION MAKING IT A HAZZARD TO DRIVE. *AK
AFTER 4,500 MILES, THE FRONT TIRE DEVELOPED A BUBBLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. *AK THE TIRE WAS THEN REPLACED WITH AN IDENTICAL ONE. AFTER 1500K MILES, THAT TIRE DEVELOPED THE SAME BUBBLE. *SC *JB
VEHICLE IS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. OWNER HAS LEASED THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE 2004. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE, IT WILL NOT MOVE THEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE WILL ACCELERATE AND A CLICK AND POP SOUND WILL BE HEARD AND THEN THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE BACKWARD. OWNER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. INSTEAD THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS SAID AT THAT TIME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT REPAIR IT. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.
THE RIGHT REAR TIRE ON MY VEHICLE BLEW OUT WITH A TOTAL OF 1400 MILES ON IT. THE BLOW-OUT WAS ON THE INSIDE WALL APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES ABOVE THE TREAD AND 4-6 INCHES IN LENGTH. IT ALSO RESULTED IN PROPERTY DAMAGE TO MY WHEEL WELL AND THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT PROCESS THE PROPERTY DAMAGE CLAIM UNLESS I PAY ($275) FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRE FIRST (WHICH I WILL BE REIMBURSED 3-4 WEEKS LATER) EVEN AFTER AN AUTHORIZED DEALER HAS DEEMED THE TIRE DEFECTIVE. IF I DROP THE PROPERTY DAMAGE CLAIM, THEN I CAN GET MY REPLACEMENT TIRE AT NO CHARGE.*AK
2004 AUDI A4 WITH PIRELLI 94V M+S TIRES WITH 3754 MILES DELIVERED TO US ON APRIL 15, 2004 HAD ONE TIRE THAT RIPPED APART AT THE SIDEWALL. LUCKILY NO DAMAGE OR INJURY. *JB CLEARLY THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. ARE THERE REPORTS CONCERNING THESE TIRES? I WISH TO SUBMIT AN COMPLAINT AS THE TIRES ARE DANGEROUS AND LIABLE TO CAUSE INJURIES OR DEATH.
(1) I WAS WAITING AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN IT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED INTO THE INTERSECTION. AN UNLICENSED, UNINSURED DRIVER IN AN OLD CHEVROLET PICK-UP TRUCK COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION RAN THE RED LEFT TURN LIGHT AND COLLIDED BROADSIDE INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2004 AUDI S4 QUATTRO SEDAN. (2) THE SIDE AIRBAG, WHICH IS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT AT THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE IMPACT, FAILED TO DEPLOY. I BROKE MY LEFT HAND, INJURED MY RIGHT SHOULDER (ROTATOR CUFF IMPINGEMENT), AND SUFFERED LACERATIONS TO BOTH HANDS. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR, INCLUDING THE B-PILLAR, WHICH IS A STRUCTURAL PART OF THE UNI-BODY FRAME. I HAVE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DAMAGE THAT I CAN SEND TO NHTSA IF YOU PROVIDE ME WITH YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS. (3) I CONTACTED AUDI U.S.A. TO COMPLAIN, AND THEY DID NOT OFFER TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE FAILURE OF THE SIDE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THE CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED AT A COMPETENT PAINT AND BODY SHOP AND I AM DRIVING IT AGAIN. THE REPAIRS TOOK TWO MONTHS, AND WERE PAID FOR BY MY AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE COMPANY UNDER MY UNINSURED MOTORISTS PROPERTY DAMAGE COVERAGE. THE BODY SHOP RETAINED THE BROKEN PARTS, INCLUDING THE B-PILLAR, AND THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. *JB
NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE CORRECT SITE TO REPORT THIS, BUT NEW AUDI 4A WITH PIRELLI P6 4 SEASON 235/45/17 94V TIRES AND 4000 MILES EXPERIENCED FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WALL FAILURES WITH NO APPARENT REASON. WEB REVIEW INDICATES THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME SITUATION IN NEW CARS WITHOUT APPARENT PRECIPITATING EVENT SUCH AS CURB OR POT HOLES. BUBBLES ONLY BUT THIS SUGGESTS TO ME A POSSIBLE MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THIS BATCH OF TIRES.*AK
I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2004 AUDI A4AVANTQUATTRO 1.8. ON JULY 1, WITH 2389 MILES ON THE CAR, I HAD A BLOWOUT OF MY RIGHT REAR TIRE, WHICH IS A GOODYEAR M&S R235/17 LOW PROFILE HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRE. I NEVER HAD A SENSATION OF HITTING ANYTHING ON THE ROAD, BUT HAD ONLY SECONDS TO GET FROM THE FAST LANE OF I-5 IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO, CA ACROSS 5 LANES OF FREEWAY TRAFFIC AND AROUND A CALTRANS MAINTENENCE CREW ON THE SHOULDER, TO SAFETY. BY THE TIME I DID, THE TIRE TREAD HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WHEEL 360 DEGREES. SIX DAYS LATER, WHILE HAVING THE TIRE REPLACED AT A LOCAL TIRE STORE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AT MY NEXT OPPORTUNITY, WITH NOW 2750 MILES ON THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FILLER HOSE TO THE GAS TANK WAS PUNCTURED, REQUIRING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE GAS TANK, AS IT IS ALL ONE PEICE, THAT THE WIRES CONNECTING THE FUEL SYSTEM TO THE CENTRAL COMPUTER WERE DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, THAT A HOLE IN THE SHEATH AROUND THE SHOCK ABSORBER ON THAT WHEEL HAD BEEN PUNCTURED, REQUIRING POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE SHOCK, AND THAT THE ENTIRE WHEEL LINER ON THAT WHEEL WAS GONE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ESTIMATED COST FOR THIS IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN $1600-2000. NEITHER AUDI, NOR THE DEALERSHIP, THUS FAR HAS TAKEN ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DESIGN FLAWS THAT CREATED THE POSSIBILITY FOR SUCH DAMAGE FROM A FLAT TIRE. I FREQUENTLY DRIVE ALONE, AND WE LIVE IN A HIGH FIRE DANGER AREA. I WAS DRIVING AROUND WITH A LEAKY GAS TANK FOR 5 DAYS BEFORE THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT EVEN WENT ON, NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT A FAULTY SHOCK ABSORBER COULD HAVE CAUSED MY ALL WHEEL DRIVE TO FAIL. I FEEL THAT THIS CAR IS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE.*AK
VEHICLE LURCHED OR ACCELERATED UPON FINAL PARKING NEAR A STOP WITH FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND ON BRAKE PEDAL. CAR ACCELERATED FOR MORE THAN HALF A MILE AT 80 MPH. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. DEALER INDICATED VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED BY THE MANUFACTURER, THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE CHANGING THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, THE JACK COLLAPSED AND DAMAGED THE ROTOR. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
