MY 2004 CUTAWAY CHEVY SOLD AS A 2005 FOUR WINDS HAS THE EXACT PROBLEM FOR THIS RECALL. RECALL NUMBER 12V388000 RECALL DATE 08/08/2012 COMPONENT FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP SUMMARY GENERAL MOTORS (GM) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2003-2004 CHEVROLET EXPRESS AND GMC SAVANA VEHICLES, EQUIPPED WITH A LEFT SIDE CARGO DOOR, AND ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. WATER AND ROAD CONTAMINANTS MAY BECOME TRAPPED IN THE PROTECTIVE CONDUIT THAT COVERS THE FUEL FILLER PIPE AND MAY CAUSE THE PIPE TO CORRODE. CONSEQUENCE SIGNIFICANT CORROSION MAY ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK DURING REFUELING, AND IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE; THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF FIRE. WHAT OWNERS SHOULD DO GM WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW FUEL FILLER NECK, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 1, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE CHEVROLET OWNER CENTER AT 1-866-694-6546 AND GMC AT 1-866-996-9463. THE EXPRESS 1500 I OWN IS CURRENTLY EXHIBITING THIS EXACT ISSUE, AND ALTHOUGH SOLD IN CA IN 2005, BASE VAN WAS MANUFACTURED IN INDIANA MODIFIED BY THOR MOTORHOMES. THIS STATE IS LISTED IN THE RECALL ABOVE. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX THE ISSUE BEING DISABLED VET ON SMALL SSDI INCOME. IVE THE FEELING IT'S THE SAME MODEL RECALLED, BUT OF COURSE CHEVY WILL NOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE IT IS NOT SPECIFICALLY ON RECALL LIST LIKE THE LEFT SIDE CARGO DOOR MODELS THAT ARE BEING REPAIRED BY THE CHEVROLET GM DEALERS? PLEASE HELP

ON JUNE 08, 2013 MY HUSBAND HAD PARKED THE VAN ALONG SIDE THE ROAD - HE WAS OUT OF IT WORKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RUNNING - WHEN A COWORKER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE VAN. THE COWORKER RAN OVER TO THE VAN AND SEEN THAT THE FIRE WAS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. WITHIN MINUTES THE ENTIRE VAN WAS ON FIRE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS VAN HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH SOMETHING SECURITY. ALL OF THE GAUGES WOULD SHUT DOWN AND IT WOULD DISPLAY "SECURITY " ON THE DASH. I PERSONALLY HAD CONTACTED OUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT. THE LOCAL DEALER SUGGESTED A NEW KEY MADE AT THE DEALERSHIP USING THE VIN NUMBERS. THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE AS IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME MY HUSBAND WENT TO A DEALERSHIP IN NORWALK, OHIO INQUIRING ABOUT THE PROBLEM - THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE SOLUTION WAS EITHER. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE "SECURITY" IS OR HOW TO FIX IT......ALSO I AM WONDERING IF THIS "SECURITY" ISSUE IS THE REASON THAT I LOST MY VAN TO THE FIRE ON JUNE 08, 2013. I CONTACTED GM BUT THEY BLEW ME OFF SAYING I HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE TOO LONG TO GET ANY MONEY FOR MY LOSS. THESE VANS ARE DESIGNED TO CARRY LOTS OF PEOPLE AND IF MY FAMILY HAD BEEN IN THIS VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TIME TO GET EVERYONE OUT SAFELY AND THAT WORRIES ME GREATLY. *TR

GASOLINE AND GASOLINE VAPOR WAS ESCAPING FROM THE FUEL FILLER PIPE LEADING TO THE FUEL TANK ON A 2004 CHEVY EXPRESS VAN 3500 SERIES. THE FILER PIPE WAS RUSTED THROUGH. THERE WAS A SEAM ON THE PIPE WHERE THE RUST THROUGH OCCURRED. GASOLINE WAS DRIPPING FROM THIS HOLE DURING GASOLINE FILL UP AND VAPORS WERE ENTERING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. WE HAD IT REPLACED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC BECAUSE IT WAS A POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE SITUATION, ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC. THIS WAS REPORTED TO GM. THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS PART, SO GM REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT PART AND LABOR. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS NOW PLASTIC. SINCE THAT TIME, I BEGAN TO HEAR A LOW KNOCKING, MORE SO WHEN I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONING. WHEN IT BECAME LOUDER ON ALL GEARS AND WHILE PARKED, I TOOK IT TO HOLLER DRIVERS MART, IN WINTER PARK, FL. ON 01/19/2012, I WAS TOLD THAT THE FLYWHEEL HAD SHEARED AROUND THE AREA WHERE IT WAS BOLTED ONTO THE TRANSMISSION AND CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE. IT ALSO HAD FRACTURES IN AND AROUND THE SAME AREA OF THE SHEARING. TECH INFORMED ME THAT I HAD CAUGHT THE PROBLEM BEFORE A SERIOUS INCIDENT MAY HAVE OCCURRED. WE PURCHASED A COMPLETE SET OF GENERAL GRABBER HTS 235/75R16 FOR OUR CHEVY EXPRESS VAN AT DUNN TIRE ON 11/15/08. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A 60K WARRANTY. WE WENT IN FOR THE REQUIRED ROTATIONS AND NOTED THAT THE TREAD DIDN'T SEEM TO BE WEARING WELL. AT THE 20K MILE ROTATION IN JANUARY OF 2011, DUNN TIRE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT PERFORMING AS ADVERTISED AND TOLD US THAT THEY WOULD LIKELY NEED TO ADJUST THE TIRES ON A PRO-RATA BASIS AT THE NEXT ROTATION AT 25K MILES. IT IS OUR BELIEF THAT THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE IN SOME WAY. THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON OUR VAN LIVED UP TO THEIR 40K WARRANTY AND WE REPLACED WITH THESE GRABBER HTS TIRES AT 39747 MILES. OUR DRIVING HABITS ARE CONSERVATIVE AND WE HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE TIRES AHEAD OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THE TREAD WAS SO BAD ON THESE GRABBER HTS TIRES THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO DRIVE OUR VAN ON SNOWY ROADS DURING THIS PAST WINTER. WE ALSO WERE CONCERNED ABOUT HYDROPLANING ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN WE DROVE THE VAN THROUGH HEAVY RAINS THIS PAST WEEKEND WHEN WE DROPPED OFF OUR DAUGHTER AT COLLEGE. WE BELIEVE THESE TIRES ARE HAZARDOUS AND THAT AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE INITIATED. IT'S INCONCEIVABLE THAT WE WOULD ONLY GET 25K MILES OUT OF A 60K TIRES. WE FEEL CHEATED AND REALLY DO NOT WANT ANOTHER SET OF GENERAL TIRES ON A PRO-RATA BASIS. *TR

MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS. WE FIRST NOTICED IT AROUND 37,000 MILES, BUT NOW IT OCCURS ALMOST EVERY TIME WE APPLY THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEED AT 39,000 MILES. WE DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH TWO CHEVY GARAGES - BOTH ADMITTED THAT IT WAS A COMMON, KNOWN CORROSION PROBLEM THAT REQUIRES EITHER CLEANING THE BRAKE SENSORS FOR APPROXIMATELY $200 OR REPLACING THEM AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $460. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR US. THE VAN DRIFTS FORWARD TOO FAR WHEN WE STOP AND WE ARE CONCERNED THAT WE WILL EITHER HIT ANOTHER CAR OR POSSIBLY A PEDESTRIAN. Summary

ON JUNE 20TH, 2008 WE BROUGHT OUR VAN IN FOR A ROUTINE BRAKE INSPECTION AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT AT 36,117 MILES. WE ALSO NOTICED A NOISE IN THE REAR WHEN MAKING A TURN. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE BACKING PLATES ON BOTH SIDES WERE RUSTED, AND THE LEFT REAR BACKING PLATE WAS ROTTED TO THE POINT THAT IT HAD HOLES IN IT. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE INEXPENSIVE, BUT THE LABOR WAS INTENSIVE AND WOULD PROBABLY COST IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $600. WE HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE BACKING PLATES YET BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE HAS OTHER QUALITY ISSUES AND WE ARE CONSIDERING A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. *TR

THREE TIMES OUR VEHICLE ENGINE HAS ABRUPTLY STOPPED RUNNING IN CROWDED INTERSTATE TRAFFIC, ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF US AND OCCUPANTS OF ADJACENT VEHICLES. THE FIRST WAS AUGUST 7, 2004 ON INTERSTATE 40 NEAR KINGMAN AZ. OUR FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT WE RAN OUT OF GAS, BUT THE GAUGE REGISTERED !/4 FULL AND WHEN WE ADDED GAS IT TOOK ONLY 22.8 GALLONS (31 GALLON TANK). THE SECOND WAS MAY 23, 2005 ON INTERSTATE 25 PASSING THROUGH COLORADO SPRINGS CO. THE GAS TANK WAS 3/4 FULL. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE ABLE TO COAST INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND OFF TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE TOWED TO TEAM CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT (719-380-6020) IN COLORADO SPRINGS WHO FOUND "LEAN CODE", SUSPECTED FUEL PUMP PROBLEM, BUT VEHICLE SEEMED OK IN 2 ROAD TEST DRIVES. ON RETURN HOME TO ALBUQUERQUE, GALLES CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT (505-766-6800) FOUND CODES P0174, P0171 AND P0300. THEY REPLACED FUEL PUMP MODULE (PART NUMBER 89060662, *MODULE 3.107) AT MILEAGE 8,826 (JUNE 9-16, 2005). THE THIRD TIME WAS ON JULY 1, 2005 ON INTERSTATE 40 APPROACHING WILLIAMS AZ IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE SPEED LIMIT (75 MPH). WE WERE IN THE LEFT LANE ADJACENT TO GUARDRAIL WITH NO LEFT HIGHWAY SHOULDER AND WE NARROWLY ESCAPED CAUSING A MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH. THIS TIME WE WERE TOWED TO TYRRELL-MARXEN CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT (928-774-5268) IN FLAGSTAFF AZ. THEY FOUND "CODES P0171 AND P0174 TRACED TO FAULTY FUEL MODULE". THEY REPLACED FUEL MODULE (PART NUMBER 88965421 MODULE KI 3.107) AT MILEAGE 10875 (JULY 2, 2005). WE LIKE OUR ROADTREK 170 POPULAR (CLASS B CONVERSION VAN), BUT AFTER THESE THREE (3) SERIOUS AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEM FAILURES (PLUS WIPER MOTOR FAILURE) WE HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT SAFETY OF US & OTHERS WHEN THESE THINGS OCCUR UNEXPECTEDLY IN HEAVY, HIGH-SPEED INTERSTATE TRAFFIC.
