Summary

THE GOOD YEAR EAGLE SPORT TIRES TORE APART ON A SHORT TRIP TO THE GROCERY STORE AND CAUSED THE CAR TO BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED ON JUNE 2019 AND PURCHASED OCTOBER 2019 AND BY JANUARY 3RD OF 2021 THEY WERE FLAT AND CHEWED UP WITH ONLY AROUND 13,000 MILES ON THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE 50,000 MILE TIRES. THIS COMPLAINT IS INVOLVING THE GOODYEAR TIRES THAT WERE ON THE CAR AND THE ONE THAT FAILED AND WAS CHEWED UP DESPITE LOW MILES AND RECENTLY MANUFACTURED/MADE WITHIN THE LAST 19 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT AFTER THE TIRE WAS DISCOVERED CHEWED UP THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS IN NEED OF REPAIR AS THE TIRE CAUSED DAMAGE. THE BRAKES WERE NOT RESPONSIVE TO STOPPING AFTER THE TIRE WAS CHEWED UP EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS SOME BRAKING POWER WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED DOWN TO THE FLOOR, THE BRAKING POWER WAS REDUCED AND THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE CAR CAME ONE. THAT IS TO SAY THAT THE TIRE FAILURE DAMAGED SOME OF THE BRAKING COMPONENETS IN THE VEHICLE. DOT C0X3 2E1R 0619

MY CAR WAS RECALLED FOR A FAULTY LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE AND WAS REPAIRED IN JUNE 2014 BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED. TODAY THE LIGHTS EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME FAILURE. FORD IS REFUSING TO REPAIR IT UNLESS WE PAY FULL PRICE FOR DIAGNOSTICS, PARTS AND SERVICE. I HAVE FOUND THAT ANOTHER RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE SAME PART IN APRIL OF '17 BUT MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. RECALL #15S39. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS RECALL REPAIR WOULD ONLY LAST 3 YEARS UNLESS SOMETHING WAS FAULTY IN THE REPAIR PARTS OR INSTALLATION OF THE PART. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?

I HAVE A 2004 CROWN VICTORIA. FORD HAS A RECALL OUT FOR 2003-2005 GRAND MARQUIS AND CROWN VICTORIA'S FOR THEIR LIGHT CONTROL MODULE (LCM) BECAUSE OF SOLDERS BREAKING CAUSING EXTERIOR LIGHTING NOT TO WORK. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (APRIL 22, 2017) TO HAVE SUCH RECALL DONE BECAUSE MY EXTERIOR RUNNING LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. (PARKING LIGHTS FRONT AND RUNNING LIGHTS REAR) I ALSO ADVISE THE DEALERSHIP OF THIS. WHICH IS DOCUMENTED ON THE RECEIPT I HAVE KEPT. FORD DOESN'T REPLACE THE ACTUAL LCM, ALL THEY DO IS INSTALL A "BYPASS HARNESS" TO BYPASS THE ISSUE WHICH DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME LIGHTS STILL NOT IN WORKING CONDITION. AGAIN, STATED ON RECEIPT. THE PROBLEM FIXED ITSELF AND I ASSUMED IT WENT AWAY. NOW IT'S BACK BUT EVEN WORSE. AGAIN MY EXTERIOR LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING, PARKING AND REAR RUNNING LIGHTS, AND NOW MY INTERIOR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING AS WELL. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. FORD REFUSES TO REPLACE THE FAULTY LCMS IN THESE CARS. I KNOW OF SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE I'M HAVING WHO HAVE CALLED FORD AND COMPLAINED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THERE ARE NO REAR RUNNING LIGHTS AT NIGHT, PERIOD. WHEN IT'S PARKED, ON ROADWAYS, HIGHWAYS, ETC. NO ONE CAN SEE ME AT NIGHT FROM THE REAR.. AND THE DASH LIGHTS ARE NOT ON. I CAN PROVIDE WHATEVER NEEDED TO HELP BECAUSE THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP. I'LL CALL TOMORROW IF I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK BEFORE.

FORD RECALL FOR CRACKS IN POLICE INTERCEPTOR WHEELS THAT WAS CANCELLED AND REMOVED FROM OASIS DATABASE IF WHEELS ARE NOT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE ANY LONGER. WHEEL IS MARKED WITH THE NUMBERS OF THE DEFECTIVE ONES AND HAS A VISIBLE CRACK AND CREAKS AND WON'T HOLD A BALANCE AND WOBBLES WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND LOOSES AIR . WHEEL IS UNSAFE IN ANY USAGE AND WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL AT ANY GIVEN POINT IN TIME WEATHER POLICE OR PRIVATE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY FORD UNDER RECALL REGARDLESS OF ANY PRIOR NOTES. RECALL WORK WAS STARTED BUT NOT COMPLETED AS ALL WHEELS WERE REPLACED BUT ONE BEFORE BEING SOLD TO ME BY RUSSIA POLICE DEPARTMENT, SINCE THE OTHER WHEELS WERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE THIS LAST WHEEL IS NO DIFFERENT AND SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER RECALL AS ITS UNSAFE TO USE. FORD STILL COVERS UNSAFE STEERING LINKAGE AND LIGHT MODULES REGARDLESS OF OWNERSHIP YET REFUSES TO REPLACE AN UNSAFE WHEEL THAT CAN EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND HARM TO THE DRIVER AND ANY OTHER VEHICLE NEARBY AS WELL. A SAFETY DEFECT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF REGARDLESS OF OWNERSHIP. I WAS ABLE TO DO A SCREEN CAPTURE OF THE RECALL THAT WAS NOT FULLY COMPLETED BEFORE FORD REMOVED IT FROM OASIS AFTER LEARNING IT WAS PRIVATELY OWNED NOW.

Summary

VEHICLE BECAME INCREASINGLY HARD TO STEER AT ALL SPEEDS OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL MONTHS. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BIND AND BECOME STIFF AT MULTIPLE POSITIONS DURING TURNS, BUT COULD STILL BE STEERED WITH ADDITIONAL EFFORT. DURING LOW SPEED TURNING IT WOULD TAKE AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF EFFORT TO STEER THE VEHICLE. INVESTIGATION AND INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE MULTIPLE UNIVERSAL JOINTS ON THE STEERING LINKAGES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WERE HEAVILY RUSTED AND CORRODED, RESULTING IN POOR MOVEMENT AND THE STIFF STEERING. LINKAGES WERE CLEANED AND LUBRICATED AND STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. DURING REPAIR IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE EXHAUST HEAT SHIELD WAS ALSO HEAVILY CORRODED AND BEGINNING TO SEPARATE FROM THE MOUNTING HARDWARE. IF THE HEAT SHIELD SEPARATES FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IT WILL INTERFERE WITH THE STEERING LINKAGES. THE HEAT SHIELD WAS REMOVED. I BELIEVE THAT OTHER MODEL YEARS WERE RECALLED FOR BOTH OF THESE ISSUES. ACCORDING TO NHTSA THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE.

MY CAR WAS RECALLED IN APRIL FOR A LIGHTING DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS NOT TO WORK. SINCE MY HEADLIGHTS HAD JUST MALFUNCTIONED AND DIDN'T WORK, I WAS GLAD THE CAR WAS TO BE FIXED. I CALLED THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. I CALLED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST FOUR MONTHS WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS. THE CAR IS UNUSABLE AT NIGHT OF COURSE. FOUR MONTHS AND THEY CAN'T GET THE PART. UNBELIEVABLE! TALK ABOUT A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR

STEERING COLUMN (LOWER SHAFT) WAS REPLACED BY ALL AMERICAN FORD IN PARAMUS NJ ON 25 OCTOBER 2011 WITH A LATER TYPE SHAFT (PER RECEIPT A 2006 PART NUMBER). STEERING NOW BINDS SEVERELY AT ANY SPEED, PARTICULARLY ALONG THE CENTER, IN MILD TURNS (SUCH AS ON A HIGHWAY). HAVE ATTEMPTED TO LUBRICATE THE U-JOINTS, BUT THE EFFECT IS ONLY TEMPORARY. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT, AND IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT A CRITICAL SYSTEM SUCH AS STEERING SHOULD FAIL SO SHORTLY IN THE VEHICLES LIFE SPAN. *TR

PARKING LIGHTS COME ON SOMETIMES WHEN THE LIGHT SWITCH IS TURNED ON. HEADLIGHTS WORK FINE, INCLUDING BRIGHTS. PARKING LIGHT SWITCH SETTING CONTROLS ALL OTHER LIGHTS. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE WAS TO FAULT. WHEN THE OTHER LIGHTS (INCLUDES TAIL LIGHTS, TAG LIGHT, FRONT PARKING AND SIDE LIGHTS) DON'T COME ON, IT PRESENTS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A MOVING VIOLATION ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT. OBVIOUSLY, THIS PREVENTS MY DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE LAW HERE STATES THAT YOU GET A TICKET FOR AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, YOU CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR HOME, THE CAR IS PUT IN IMPOUND UNTIL YOU CAN MOVE IT TO REPAIR IT. QUITE A COSTLY EXPERIENCE I WOULD IMAGINE. THIS WAS A PREVIOUS POLICE INTERCEPTOR. HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH IT? THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE. *TR

Summary

DRIVING S ON M-10 FROM I-94 TO I-75 ENTRANCE RAMP. I ENTERED THE RAMP AT 25- 30 MPH WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED UP, I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. BEFORE I KNEW IT I HIT THE CURB AND THEN ROLLED OVER APPROX. 3 TIMES DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND FINALLY HITTING A CONCRETE BARRIER WHICH STOPPED THE CAR. AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE HEAT SHIELD FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS FOUND UNDER THE CAR, YOU COULD SEE IT RUSTED OFF AND YOU COULD SEE THE MARKS ON IT WHERE IT JAMMED THE STEERING SHAFT AND THE ENGINE BLOCK (STILL HAVE THE PART). BECAUSE OF THE COST CUTTING IN MATERIALS IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THIS HEAT SHIELD OUT OF SHEET METAL AND NOT OUT OF STAINLESS STEEL IT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT. NOW BECAUSE OF THIS INFERIOR DESIGN AND THE ACCIDENT IT CAUSED, I'M DEALING WITH TBI, PTSD, PBA, NECK INJURY, LOWER BACK INJURY (WHICH IS AFFECTING MY LEGS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO WALK). A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT I GRADUATED WITH A BACHELORS DEGREE IN MARKETING, BUT NOW BECAUSE OF MY INJURIES I AM UNABLE TO WORK. THIS NEEDLESS ACCIDENT HAS CAUSED ME FINANCIAL HARDSHIP, I LOST MY HOME, UNABLE TO PAY MY STUDENT LOANS, UNABLE TO PAY MY BILLS. THIS ALL STEMS FROM SOMEONE AT FORD'S DECIDING TO CUT COSTS IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE HEAT SHIELD OUT OF SHEET METAL INSTEAD OUT OF STAINLESS STEEL. FORD SHOULD HAVE REALIZED THAT A MAJORITY OF THESE CROWN VICTORIA'S ARE OWNED IN AREAS WHERE SALT IS USED IN THE WINTER. YOU WOULD THINK FORD'S BEING LOCATED IN DEARBORN, MICHIGAN WOULD USE COMMON SENSE IN THEIR DESIGN OF THIS PART, KNOWING SALT IS HEAVILY USED IN SNOW REMOVAL IN MICHIGAN. THEY SAVED A FEW DOLLARS, BUT IN DOING SO THEY RUINED MY LIFE !! I JUST WONDER HOW MANY ACCIDENTS WHERE CAUSED BY THIS POOR DESIGN? I WONDER HOW MANY OTHER LIVES HAVE BEEN RUINED AND DON'T REALIZE IT WAS CAUSED BY THIS DEFECTED DESIGN. I WAS JUST LUCKY TO FIND THE PART TO SHOW WHAT CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT. ..UPDATED 05/20/14 *BF...UPDATED 08/10/15*BF UPDATED 8/17/17*CN

Summary

BEGINNING IN SUMMER 2013, STEERING BECAME NOTICEABLY TIGHTER WHEN MAKING SLOW SPEED TURNS. NOVEMBER 2013 THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE AN ALIGNMENT DUE TO TIRES CONTINUOUSLY WEARING ON INSIDE WALLS, WHICH I SUSPECT IS DUE TO THE STEEL WHEEL RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V079000) BUT FORD WILL NOT HONOR IF THE CAR IS IN PRIVATE POSESSION. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, I WAS ADVISED THE STEERING SHAFT WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. UPON RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED OTHER OWNERS EXPERINCING THE SAME ISSUES. FORD ISSUED A RECALL (FORD RECALL #13S08) TO INSPECT AND REPLACE THE UPPER AND LOWER STEERING SHAFT ONLY FOR 2005-2011 MODELS. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME TO CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY, AND I DID. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS THAT THIS IN AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY CONCERN AND FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WAS ADVISED BY FORD THAT THEY SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY DEALERSHIP AND VERIFIED THAT MY CAR IS INDEED HAVING ISSUES THAT ARE EXACTLY LIKE THE RECALL INCLUDED. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND THAT THEY WOULD KEEP MY INFORMATION ON FILE FOR THEM TO REVIEW IN THE EVENT OF A FUTURE RECALL. I AM HAVING AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACE THE UPPER AND LOWER SHAFT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF THE HIGH CHANCE IT COULD BECOME DISENGAGED AND RENDER THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. I STRONGLY URGE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS AND OTHER CASES OF 2004 CROWN VICTORIA (CVPI) OWNERS WHO COMPLAIN OF BOTH THE STEERING ISSUE AND THE RECALL THAT FORD FAILS TO FIX ON THE STEEL WHEELS. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER IN FLEET USE, BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM OF THE DEFECTIVE STEEL WHEELS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FORD. THEY NEED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE THE WHEELS JUST AS THEY WOULD FOR ANY OTHER RECALL REGARDLESS OF THE CURRENT OWNER, HOW A RECALL SHOULD WORK. *TR

HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. STOPPED, PULLED OVER, DIDN'T WANT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITHOUT LIGHTS. CHECKED ALL FUSES, ALL SEEMED TO BE OK. FUMBLED WITH THE SWITCH AND WIRES AND CONNECTIONS, AND FOR AWHILE CONTEMPLATED HOW WE WOULD GET OURSELVES, AND THE CAR HOME WITHOUT ANY LIGHTS? STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND THE LIGHTS WORKED.....RESUMED OUR DRIVE HOME....BUT LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN.....DECIDED TO RISK IT AND CONTINUED HOME WITHOUT HEAD LIGHTS. TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD SERVICE STATION THE NEXT WEEK, THEY SAID IT MUST BE THE SWITCH, PUT IN A NEW SWITCH AND SAID IT WAS FIXED.........PICKED IT UP AFTER WORK, AND HEADED FOR HOME, MADE IT A 1/4 MILE BEFORE THEY WENT OUT AGAIN. GOT ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CROWN VICTORIA AND TO FIX IT, IT TAKES A FORD RE-- DESIGNED LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE...TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $500.00...FORD OBVIOUSLY KNOWS THIS IS A DESIGN AND SAFETY PROBLEM, WHY AREN'T THEY TAKING CARE OF THE PROBLEM.....BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED???? *TR

I WAS AT DRIVE THROUGH TELLER WHEN THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS, AC, INSTRUMENT GAUGES, ODOMETER, AND SPEEDOMETER FAILED AT ONCE. INITIALLY THE DETERMINATION WAS IT WAS THE OVERDRIVE SWITCH IN THE GEARSHIFT, APPARENTLY A WIRE WAS SHORTING OUT BECAUSE IT TRAVELS IN AN AREA WHERE THE INSULATION WEARS AND SHORTS TO METAL. HOWEVER, AFTER HAVING DISCONNECTED THE OVERDRIVE AND WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT WIRING HARNESS, THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT ALONG WITH THE PERMANENT HIGH BEAMS. IT WILL TURN ON THE LIGHTS IF YOU USE MANUAL LIGHTS INSTEAD OF AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS. ALSO HEADLIGHTS GO OUT ON THE INTERSTATE FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. RETURNED TO MECHANIC AND I WAS ADVISED THAT IT NEEDS A LIGHT CONTROL MODULE AND THAT THE LCM IS NOTORIOUS FOR FAILURES ESPECIALLY WITH HEADLIGHTS. COST OF REPLACING THE LCM IS EXORBITANTLY HIGH AND NO NEW PARTS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH FORD AS THEY QUIT MAKING THEM. CARDONE SELLS THE LCM FOR SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS INCLUDING CORE COST. FORD SHOULD NUT UP TO THIS ONE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PRODUCT. PEOPLE CAN GET KILLED WHEN THEIR HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY GO OUT AT HIGH SPEEDS AT NIGHT! TRUST ME. NOT ALL LANES ON THE INTERSTATE ARE LIT. THIS IS REALLY A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I NOW FORD LIKES TO COUNT BEANS, BUT IS IT REALLY WORTH RISKING HUMAN LIFE AND LIMB TO SAVE A FEW BUCKS? *TR

Summary

I HAVE EXPERIENCED TOTAL HEADLIGHT FAILURE ON MORE THAN 20 OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. SOME OF THE TIME THE FAILURES OCCURRED IN TOTAL DARKNESS ON INTERSTATE AND SECONDARY ROADS. THE FAILURE AFFECTED ALL LIGHTS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR. I DEFINITELY THINK THIS CONSTITUTES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZZARD. ON THE FIRST FAILURE MY SON, DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AND BABY GRAND DAUGHTER WERE BEING TRANSPORTED FROM THE AIRPORT TO MY HOME WHEN THE LIGHTS FAILED ON THE INTERSTATE IN TOTAL DARKNESS AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 65 MPH. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER DOES NOT WANT TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND THE TOTAL COST TO REPLACE THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE IS MORE THAN $600.00 I LEARNED FROM THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND CLAIMS RELATED TO HEADLIGHT FAILIRE ON THE 2001-2004 FORD CROWN VICTORIA. IT APPEARS THAT NHTSA OPENED A CASE ON THIS MATTER IN 2008, REFERENCE ACTION NUMBER PE08066, CLOSED IT ON 24 MARCH 2009, INDICATING THAT THE ISSUE WOULD BE MONITORED AND NHTSA RESERVED THE RIGHT TO REOPEN THE CASE. I HEREBY RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT ACTION NUMBER PE08066 BE REOPENED AND THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE OBVIOUS FAULTY LIGHT CONTROL MODULES. RESPECTIVELY SUBMITTED. *TT

MY 2004 FORD CROWN VICTORIA, A FORMER CHP VEHICLE TURNED INTO A TAXI AT 102,000 MILES, BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS WHEN I WOULD STOP AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE BRIEFLY, RETURN, RESTART, AND WITHIN A SHORT TIME THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL. AFTER A COUPLE MINUTES THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON. THIS PROBLEM PROGRESSED TO LESS PREDICTABLE FAILURE OF THE HEADLIGHTS WHEN RUNNING. FAILURE OF THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE WAS DIAGNOSED AT !50,000 MILES AND I FOUND A TAXI DRIVER WHO HAD OVERCOME THE SAME PROBLEM AND REWIRED FROM THE GREEN/BLACK WIRE BEHIND THE LIGHTS CONTROL SWITCH THRU THE FIREWALL TO A BUILT-UP POWERED RELAY AND THEN TO THE HEADLIGHTS. IT HAS WORKED FINE, NOW 197,000 MILES, EXCEPT THAT THE HI-BEAMS HAVE FAILED IN THE SET POSITION BUT STILL WORK IN THE TEMPORARILY POSITION. COST $60. GOOD LUCK. I KNOW PERSONALLY OR ANECDOTALLY OF 6 OTHER 2004 CROWN VIC"S IN SACRAMENTO THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN WILL BIG BROTHER RECOGNIZE THAT THIS PROBLEM REQUIRES A RECALL? *TR

EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE RACED, PROPELLING MY VEHICLE INTO THE REAR OF THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING BODY DAMAGE TO BOTH. THIS WAS THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE OF THE SAME PROBLEM, THREE WHILE I WAS DRIVING, ONCE WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING, DATING BACK TO NOVEMBER, 2010. WE WERE INFORMED, BY THE ONE REPAIRING THE BODY, THAT HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING OUR VEHICLE INTO HIS SHOP. HE CAN VERIFY THIS OCCURRENCE. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, AND IT HAS ALREADY CAUSED CONSIDERABLE STRESS AND ANGST FOR BOTH OF US. THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE MOST SEVERE. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL RELATIVE TO THIS PROBLEM, BUT I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT IT SHOULD BE REQUIRED. *TR

DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HEADLIGHTS FAIL! OUT ON A DARK, DARK ROAD IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (I-57) AND A SINGLE 55 YEAR OLD WOMAN, HOW DANGEROUS IS THIS?!? I WENT TO FORD DEALER WHO ACTED LIKE HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE (RIVER OAKS FORD IN CALUMET CITY, IL ~ THE TOP RATED FORD REPAIR DEALER IN THE COUNTRY ACCORDING TO THEIR RECORDED PHONE MESSAGE AND A HUGE BANNER ON THE WALL AS YOU ENTER THE DEALERSHIP), BUT WAS CLUELESS AS TO THIS PROBLEM, REALLY? THE CAR SAT THERE ALL DAY UNTIL THEY CALLED ME AT 3:30 IN THE AFTERNOON TO TELL ME THE HEADLIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF, WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM? OH, WE CAN INSTALL A NEW LIGHT BOX MODULE ($500)...THAT MIGHT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM...NO GUARANTEE, AGAIN...REALLY? I CAME HOME (PROBLEM UNREPAIRED), LOOKED UP 2004 CROWN VICTORIA HEADLIGHTS ON GOOGLE AND TO MY ASTONISHMENT FOUND WEBSITE/ARTICLE AFTER ARTICLE STATING HOW COMMON THIS PROBLEM IS ON CROWN VICTORIAS, GRAND MARQUIS AND MAURADER 2003-2005!!! I THINK THAT FORD IS TRYING TO SHUCK THEIR RESPONSIBILITY IN TAKING CARE OF THIS POTENTIALITY HAZARDOUS MALFUNCTION (CAR CAN START ON FIRE AND MANY CABS IN LOS ANGELES HAVE ARTICLE DATE 3/25/10)! THEY SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND SEND OUT A NATIONWIDE RECALL FOR THIS TO BE FIXED, INSTEAD I HAVE TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY FOR THE PART, THE LABOR TO GET THIS FIXED. THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE THE DOWNTIME HAVING THE CAR IN THE SHOP FOR THE DAY! PATHETIC IS ALL I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS SITUATION. I AM JUST GLAD I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE BRIGHTS LEVER BACK TOWARD THE STEERING WHEEL SO THAT I WOULD HAVE SOME KIND OF LIGHTS...NOT EASY DRIVING A LONG DISTANCE HOLDING THIS LEVER ALL THE WAY BUT IT WAS THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET ANY KIND OF LIGHTS TO WORK! PUSHING THE BRIGHT LIGHT LEVER FORWARD TO KEEP THE BRIGHTS ON DIDN'T WORK EITHER! *TR

WHILE DRIVING I SUDDENLY FOUND IT VERY HARD TO TURN THE STEERING TO THE RIGHT. USING CONSIDERABLE FORCE I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN - BUT ONLY JUST. INVESTIGATION BY MYSELF LATER SHOWED THAT THE HEAT SHIELD FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAD FALLEN OFF DUE TO CORROSION AROUND THE TWO 10MM BOLTS THAT HOLD IT ON. IT HAD THEN FALLEN ONTO THE STEERING SHAFT AND MUST HAVE WEDGED AGAINST SOMETHING WHEN I WAS TRYING TO TURN. IT WAS STILL ON TOP OF THE STEERING SHAFT WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD AFTER DRIVING A MILE HOME (VERY CAREFULLY). HAD SOMEONE BEEN DRIVING WITH LESS EXPERIENCE OR STRENGTH THAN MYSELF THIS FAILURE COULD VERY EASILY HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT AS THERE WAS NO WARNING AT ALL. *TR

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 FORD CROWN VICTORIA, WHILE DRIVING DURING DARK HOURS DOWN THE FREEWAY MY HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OUT WITH A CLICK. THE PARKING LIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS REMAINED, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO SEE AND HAD TO MAKE A BLIND PANIC STOP TO THE SHOULDER. SINCE, THIS HAS BEEN A REGULAR OCCURRENCE IN WHICH I CAN ONLY QUICKLY PULL THE FLASH TO PASS SWITCH AND TRY TO HOLD IT AS WELL AS THE STEERING WHEEL UNTIL I CAN SAFELY GET PULLED OVER. EVEN AFTER THEN, IT IS AN UNKNOWN WAIT TIME ON WHEN THEY WILL COME BACK ON OR HOW LONG THEY WILL STAY ON ONCE THEY DO. THE OTHER SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT IT STARTLES OTHER DRIVERS IN FRONT OF YOU, I HAVE HAD TWO INSTANCES IN WHICH ONE VEHICLE SUDDENLY HIT THE BRAKES NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION AS WELL SURPRISING A DRIVER TRAVELING BESIDE ME, MAKING HIM SWERVE. I HAVE RESEARCHED SEVERAL PLACES AND IT APPEARS THAT IT IS A FAULTY RELAY IN THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE. I ALSO FOUND THAT IN FORD'S INFINITE WISDOM THAT YOU CANNOT JUST REPLACE THIS $4 RELAY INSIDE THE MODULE, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE $500 MODULE. I THINK THAT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FORD TO MAKE RIGHT. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS OFTEN AND WITHOUT WARNING AND HAS PROVEN TO BE A DANGEROUS EVENT. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN AROUND AUGUST OF 2009, THE VEHICLE IS A 2004 WITH APPROXIMATELY 80K MILES. *TR

RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM FORD REGARDING A 2004 CROWN VICTORY THAT I ACQUIRED 08/09 AS A FORMER POLICE CRUISER. LETTER STATED I HAD TO GET THIS CAR TO A DEALER ASAP AS THIS WAS AN 07 RECALL THAT HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED. THE LETTER CLEARLY STATES DEFECTIVE WHEELS MUST BE REPLACED OR ONUS IS ON ME FOR ANY FUTURE FAILURES REGARDING THIS RECALL. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER ON LETTER AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE WHEELS (SPECIAL FOR POLICE) HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO DEVELOP CRACKS AND SPLIT OPEN FURTHER AT SOME POINT IN TIME. I ADVISED THAT I WAS A PRIVATE CITIZEN AND CAR WAS NOT A POLICE VEHICLE ANY LONGER & THEY SAID IT MATTERED NOT, AND MUST BE REPLACED. THEY GAVE ME A DEALER NAME & NUMBER WHICH I PROMPTLY CALLED THE NEXT DAY. DEALER HAD LITTLE INFO ON THIS SO I GAVE THEM THE RECALL NUMBER AND EXPLAINED WHAT I WAS TOLD AND WHAT LETTER SAID, DATED OCT '09. DEALER DECLINED TO ORDER PARTS AND SAID THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR UNDER RECALL SINCE IT WAS NO LONGER IN POLICE USE. I THEN CALLED CS AGAIN AND THEY AGREED THIS TIME WITH DEALER. I ESCALATED TO CUSTOMER RELATIONS WHICH WAS NO HELP WHATSOEVER. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT FORD HAD CONTACTED ME, THE LETTER DID NOT SAY TO DISREGARD IF NO LONGER USED AS A POLICE VEHICLE, ONLY THAT THIS WAS A HAZARD AND NEEDED TO GET DONE. I ASKED FOR A LETTER OF EXPLANATION AS TO HOW IT WAS SAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE AS A PRIVATE CITIZEN IF IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR POLICE AND THEY REFUSED, BUT DID TELL ME IT "SHOULD" BE OK. THE RECALL NUMBER & DESCRIPTION READS 07S48-16" STEEL WHEEL REPLACEMENT. I CAN FAX A COPY OF LETTER IF YOU REQUIRE, BUT FORD IS ADAMANT IN REFUSAL TO DO ANYTHING AFTER SOUNDING THE ALERT TO ME AND PUTTING ME IN A POTENTIALLY UNSAFE SITUATION, PLUS CLEARLY STATING I AM RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING HAPPENS AND I HAVE IGNORED THE LETTER. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 FORD CROWN VICTORIA THE HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING INTERMITTENTLY. SO I WENT ONLINE FOR HELP WITH TROUBLESHOOTING THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE CARS DOING THIS. IT WAS NOT HARD TO SEE THERE IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM WITH HOW FORD IS MAKING THESE CARS. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE (LCM) LIGHT CONTROL MODULE AND THE WAY IT IS INSTALLED. THIS PART IS ALSO NOT CHEAP AT 399.00 SEAMS LIKE THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS A LOT MORE ATTENTION. RATHER THAN LET THIS PROBLEM FALL ON THE BACKS OF UNSUSPECTING BUYERS WHO WILL HAVE A HARD TIME BEING STRANDED WITH NO LIGHTS AND HAVING TO COME UP WITH 399.00. ON TOP OF A TOW TRUCK BILL AND A FINE FROM THE POLICE. FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS ALREADY WELL DOCUMENTED. I HAVE SEEN IT IN YEARS FROM 2000 TO 2006. THAT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF CARS. Summary

ROUTINELY WHEN DRIVING MY 2004 FORD CROWN VICTORY (USED AS A HACKNEY CARRIAGE) AUTOMOBILE EXHIBITS VIOLENT, POTENTIALLY DEADLY BEHAVIOR. THE LOSES ITS OPERATIONAL ABILITY AND DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE LATEST NEAR-ACCIDENT SITUATION UNFOLDED AS FOLLOWS: WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH THE AUTOMOBILE JUMPED (SWERVED) FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE RIGHT LANE WITHOUT ME HAVING MOVED THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN I RETAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN, THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND, BUT PROCEEDED TO JERK FORWARD AT A DECREASING SPEED AND VIBRATE FEVERISHLY. THE BRAKE PEDAL APPEARED TO BE JAPED HALF-WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE REAR-AXLE BEARINGS PRODUCED A LOT OF NOISE. ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS (DURING COLD WEATHER) THE ENGINE SHUT-OF WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. AFTER THE CAR STOPPED, I WAS ABLE TO START THE ENGINE. AFTER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO JERK VIOLENTLY FORWARD AND BACKWARD. WHEN STEERING THE CAR HOME, THE ANGLE OF AT WHICH I HELD THE STEERING WHEEL, DID NOT CORRESPOND TO THE DIRECTION THAT THE CAR WOULD TRAVEL IN. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED PRE-OWNED WITH 4,000 MILES ON IT AND THESE SEVERE INCIDENTS BEGAN OCCURRING AFTER ANOTHER 2,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP DOZENS OF TIME, EACH TIME THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS SAID THAT THE CAR IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. TWICE, WARRANTY SERVICE WAS DENIED. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 26,000 MILES. FORD IS NO WILLING TO SOLVE THESE POTENTIALLY DEADLY ISSUES. AS A TAXI DRIVER, I AM IN THIS VEHICLE FOR 12 HOURS A DAY CARRYING DOZENS OF PEOPLE EVERY DAY. IF ONE OF THESE TIME I AM UNABLE TO CATCH THESE FAILURES A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT MAY HAPPEN. ALL THESE PROBLEMS LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR AS AN INHERENT MANUFACTURING DEFECT, THAT ITS MANUFACTURER FORD IS NOT RECOGNIZING. THIS FAILURE TO CORRECT THEIR ENGINEERING FAILURE IS VERY SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY. *NM
