The contact owns a 2004 Honda Element. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to repair under the Takata recall. Several few months after the air bag repair, the driver’s side curtain air bag deployed without incident and without warning while driving at 65 MPH. The contact pulled off the highway and found no visible damage or reason for the deployment. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer on two separate occasions for an inspection; however, the contact was never given a cause for the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who refused to service the vehicle since the cause of the deployment had not been determined. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
air bag light stays on
While driving in the freeway; the low beam lights went out and would no longer work. For visibility purposes, I was forced to use high beam lights to make it home while impairing the driving ability of others. The low beams and high beams run on the same light bulb. While using the high beams, the bulbs work as intended. The light bulbs and relays were promptly replaced and the issue is not fixed. It is often caused the a malfunctioning multiswitch that controls lighting and blinkers. The issue is well known within Honda elements and a previous recall have been issued for other Honda models including the Honda civic. Oftentimes the wiring goes back due to the switch malfunctioning. This is extremely unsafe toward everyone on the road as we lack visibility and by using high beams, we unwantingly blind other drivers which could result in injury by other drivers, passengers, and even pedestrians.

INAPPROPRIATE SENSITIVITY IN AIRBAG SENSOR OR FAULTY AIRBAG SEEMS TO BE THE CAUSE. HUGHES HONDA IN ATHENS, GA. STATES THEY WILL NOT REPAIR SINCE THIS IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE.

MY 2004 ELEMENT LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY. I HAD IT SERVICED BY A MECHANIC WITH SET BELT REPLACEMENT. DID NOT HELP WITH THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. HAD IT LOOKED AT BY SOMEONE ELSE WHO TOLD ME IT WAS THE AIRBAG SENSORS. I REALLY DON"T WANT TO KEEP SPENDING MONEY BUT IT FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE OF THIS ALONG WITH MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT THAT IS ROCKING. DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP WITH ANY TYPE OF FORCE CAUSES THE SEAT TO JUMP FORWARD. EVEN IF I AM SITTING AND IF I MOVE AROUND MY SEAT WILL MOVE. IS THERE ANY TYPE OF PERMANENT FIXES FOR THESE PROBLEMS. OUR DAUGHTER LOVES HER ELEMENT BUT, THESE ARE MAJOR ISSUES FOR OUR FAMILY AS THEY ARE AND CAN HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS NOW AND IN THE FUTURE
WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE DRIVER SIDE,SIDE AIRBAG (THE DRIVER SEAT) DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. IT FRIGHTENED ME AND CAUSED ME TO SWERVE INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE, FORTUNATELY NO CARS WERE AROUND ME AT THE TIME AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND REGAIN MY COMPOSURE. I SHIVER WHEN I THINK OF HOW BADLY THIS MIGHT HAVE GONE IF OPPOSING TRAFFIC WAS THERE AT THE TIME! A DAY LATER MY LEFT ARM STILL HURTS FROM DEPLOYMENT. MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S FRONT DRIVER SEAT WOULD ROCK SIMILAR TO A ROCKING CHAIR. THE FIRST TEAM HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRACK FOR THE SEAT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

IF THERE HAVE BEEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT! MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! PLEASE HELP...WHAT WOULD THESE COST ME TO REPAIR? HOW DO I PROCEED?

THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT KEEPS APPEARING AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALER IN VA BCH TWO TIMES.
THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR OVERHEATED AND MELTED AT ITS TERMINAL WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH RESULTING IN THE RANDOM FAILURE OF MY HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. AFTER SEARCHING MORE ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE, I FOUND THAT THE SAME ISSUE RESULTED IN A RECALL OF THE PART IN 2001/2002 HONDA CIVICS (EXPORT SERVICE BULLETIN 04-015, APRIL 2004). THE SOLUTION, "REPLACE THE COMBINATION LIGHT SWITCH, THE RED/WHT WIRE IN THE HEADLIGHT WIRE HARNESS AND, IF NEEDED, THE 16P HEADLIGHT WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR." I VERIFIED THAT IT IS THE SAME RED/WHT WIRE THAT OVERHEATED IN THE CONNECTOR. WHY IS MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL?
THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD HAS ILLUMINATED AND WILL NOT EXTINGUISH AT APPROXIMATELY 145000 MILES. IT REMAINED ON AFTER IGNITION SELF-CHECK FROM A DEAD START AFTER OVERNIGHT PARKING. THE DRIVER-SIDE AIRBAG HAD BEEN REPLACED APPROX 7,000 MILES AGO.

PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55-60 ON A PAVED HIGHWAY. THE ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS IS OVER 3000. HONDA TOOK ALL THE INFO AND WAS SUPPOSEDLY GOING TO GET BACK TO ME. MANY UNRETURNED PHONE CALLS LATER, I HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR THIS EXCEPT A RECALL NOTICE COVERING OTHER AIRBAGS. OF COURSE AT THIS POINT, NONE OF MY AIRBAGS ARE FUNCTIONING; THUS THERE IS NO POINT IN COMPLYING WITH THE RECALL NOTICE. THE DATE BELOW IS APPROXIMATE. THE HONDA DEALER LOOKED AT THE PROBLEM AND GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON 5-31-16. THE MILEAGE ON THE NEXT PAGE IS ALSO APPROXIMATE. MY CONTACT # AT HONDA IS 310-781-5259. RIO GRACIOUSLY GAVE ME HIS DIRECT LINE, THEN DID NOT RETURN ANY CALLS.
NHTSA RECALL 16V-344 THE LOCAL DEALER REPLACED MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ON 07.06.2016. THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT FOR MY AIRBAG SYSTEM HAS BEEN ON SINCE THIS DATE. I HAVE EMAILED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER HERE IN CEDAR RAPIDS IOWA 10 TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THEM. I ALSO FOUND 2 SCREWS ON MY FLOORBOARD AFTER THEIR WORK ON MY CAR.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V344000 (AIR BAGS) EXCEEDED A REASONABLE TIME FOR REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WOULD BE AVAILABLE WITHIN A FEW MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA ELEMENT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V344000 (AIR BAGS). THE DEALER SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT AND THEN PROVIDED NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE SUPPLIED TO THE DEALER FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO RECEIVE THE REPAIR. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHILE WAITING FOR THE DEALER TO SUPPLY AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
DRIVER SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH WHEN BRAKING AND ACCELERATING. THIS SEEMS VERY UNSAFE.
TAKATA RECALL: I HAVE BEEN ON A WAITING LIST FOR A RECALLED AIRBAG REPLACEMENT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. NEITHER THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOR THE HONDA GENERAL MANAGMENT WILL RETURN MY CALLS. HONDA'S "RECALL RESOLUTION TEAM" HAS BEEN ATTEMPTING UNSUCCESSFULLY TO GET THE HONDA DEALER TO RESPOND TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP IS: PROCTOR HONDA, 2373 W TENNESSEE ST, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32304. TEL: (850) 576-5165. AS A RESULT OF BEING PLACED ON A WAITING LIST, AND THEN IGNORED, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY INJURE ME. IT HAS BEEN MORE THAN 2 MONTHS. I DON'T RECALL THE ORIGINAL DATE I WAS PLACED ON THE WAITING LIST, BUT IT COULD BE 6 MONTHS OR MORE.
BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT, COULD BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR DESPITE BLEEDING OF THE BRAKE LINES. REPLACING THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WHETHER DRIVING OR STATIONARY. BLEEDING THE ABS MODULATOR WOULD TEMPORARILY IMPROVE BRAKING, BUT TURNING THE IGNITION ON AND OFF 6 TIMES WOULD INTRODUCE AIR INTO THE ABS MODULATOR. REPLACING THE ABS MODULATOR SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN MY 2004 ELEMENT ROCKS NOTICEABLY. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE SEAT FRAME. COST WAS $2300. SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THAT HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN #03-032 (ATTACHED). THE WORK INVOLVES REPLACING SEAT BUSHINGS. I TOOK THE SB TO THE DEALER, AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE DAMAGE TO THE FRAME WAS TOO BAD, AND THAT THE WORK WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. LOOKING AT THE SERVICE BULLETIN, THE BUSHINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED PROTECT THE FRAME. THEY RECOGNIZED THAT THE DESIGN FLAW REQUIRED THEM TO BE REPLACED. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, AND CANNOT SAY IF THE WORK WAS EVER DONE. IN EITHER CASE, THE FAILURE OF THE BUSHINGS RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. PRESENTLY, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT MOVEMENT AND THE SEAT IS LOOSE. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, IT IS MY CONCERN THAT THE MOVEMENT OF THE SEAT COULD RESULT IN SHEARING OF THE BOLTS, CAUSING THE SEAT TO COME APART. SINCE THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM WAS NOT A RECALL, BUT A SERVICE BULLETIN, IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THERE MAY BE MANY OF THESE VEHICLES WITH LOOSE SEATS. AS A SAFETY CONCERN THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO INSPECT THE FRAME FOR DAMAGE AND REPLACE IF DAMAGED. I AM PUTTING TODAY'S DATE IN THE DATE FIELD BELOW, BUT THIS IS A CHRONIC ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME.
DRIVER'S SEAT ROCKS FORWARD AND BACKWARD WHILE DRIVING - BRAKING ROCKS FORWARD - ACCELERATING ROCKS BACKWARD. WAS REAR-ENDED TWO DAYS AGO AND REALIZED THAT THE SEAT OR HEAD RESTRANT WOULD NOT PROVIDE SUPPORT TO PREVENT INJURY.
FEMALE SEAT BELT CONNECTION DOES NOT LOCK PROPERLY ON A CONSISTENT BASIS. THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THIS WARRANTIED PART SUGGESTING THERE IS A LARGE PROBLEM WITH THIS PART THAT HONDA IS NOT RESOLVING.

WITH REFERENCE TO RECALL 14V-700, THE FOLLOWING WAS SENT TO HONDA IN MAY. THEY DID CALL A MONTH LATER STATING THAT THE PARTS WOULD BE IN SOON AND THAT HONDA OF BOWIE WOULD CONTACT ME FOR THE REPAIR. AS A RESULT, I CALLED HONDA OF BOWIE, MD ASKING IF THEY COULD ACCOMPLISH THE REPAIR AND ASKED IF THEY HAD THE REQUIRED PARTS IN STOCK. THEY REPLIED AFFIRMATIVE, SO AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SERVICE CENTER WAS SCHEDULED FOR 6 FEBRUARY. MY 2004 ELEMENT WAS DELIVERED TO THE SERVICE CENTER FOR THE AIR BAG (DRIVER AND PASSENGER) REPLACEMENT. THEY WERE ONLY ABLE TO REPLACE THE DRIVERS AIRBAG - TURNS OUT THAT THE PASSENGER COMPONENTS WERE NOT IN STOCK. I WAS ASSURED THAT HONDA OF BOWIE WOULD CALL WHEN THEY ARRIVED. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER AND EXPECTED SHORTLY. BEGINNING IN MARCH I HAVE MADE AT LEAST FOUR TELEPHONE CALLS TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT ASKING ABOUT THE BACK ORDER AND ALWAYS RECEIVE THE SAME RESPONSE - SHOULD BE HERE SHORTLY. I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE OF THE TIME I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE RECALL REPLACEMENT OF THE AIRBAG FOR THE PASSENGER. I FIRST CALLED MY DEALER, SPACE COAST HONDA, ON FEBRUARY 11, 2015. I HAVE CALLED THEM AFTER 30 DAYS AND AFTER 60 DAYS. THEN AFTER 60 DAYS I GET THE SECOND RECALL LETTER FOR THE DRIVER AIRBAG. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A HUGE RECALL, BUT HONDA KNEW ABOUT THIS LONG BEFORE WE CUSTOMERS WERE NOTIFIED AND WE SHOULD NOT BE WARNED NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE IT COULD KILL US, WHEN THEY ARE DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT....AT LEAST IN MY CASE. I AM WONDERING IF MY DEALER IS PLAYING FAVORITES. WE DO NOT GO FOR REGULAR SERVICE, OIL CHANGES, ETC. AFTER ALL IT IS A 2004 CAR AND A WALMART OIL CHANGE IS GOOD ENOUGH. THE CAR HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT AND WE ARE PLANNING TO KEEP IT. MY HUSBAND IS 80 YEARS OLD AND CANNOT GET IN THE BACK SEAT EASILY (WHICH IS WHAT HONDA RECOMMENDS). AND THEN THERE IS THE DRIVER AIR BAG...DRIVER CANNOT SIT IN THE BACK SEAT! THANK YOU. *TR

THE CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND CAME TO AN INSTANT STOP. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE PULLING INTO A BUSINESS. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME. IT HAS BEEN MAYBE A YEAR FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT AND NOW THE CAR WILL FLASH OFF AND ON WITHIN A NANO SECOND WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ALSO WHILE COMING TO A STOP AND TURNING CORNERS. THE HEADLIGHTS ALSO DIM AT DIFFERENT TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WILL BE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE LOCAL DEALER ASAP. I AM HOPING THAT BY GETTING THE IGNITION RECALL COMPLETED THIS WILL FIX THE ISSUE. *JS
I CANNOT FIND OUT IF THE AIR BAG IN MY VEHICLE WAS MAKE BY TAKATA OR IF MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE AIR BAG RECALL SIMPLY BECAUSE I DO NOT LIVE IN A SOUTHERN STATE. I PLAN TO TRAVEL TO THE SOUTH AND AM WORRIED ABOUT IT. MY HONDA DEALER SAYS HE CANNOT LEGALLY DEACTIVATE THE AIR BAG. I WANT TO KNOW IF MY AIR BAG WAS MADE BY TAKATA AND IF IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST SIMPLY BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE IN THE SOUTH. WHY CAN'T I HAVE IT DEACTIVATED? *TR
LOW BEAMS STOPPED WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY. HEADLIGHT BULBS WERE PROMPTLY REPLACED BUT THE BULBS WERE FINE. THE DEFECT WAS IN THE VEHICLE ITSELF. LOW BEAMS DO NOT WORK, WHILE THE HIGH BEAMS AND RUNNING LIGHTS CONTINUE TO OPERATE NORMALLY. HONDA HAD A RECALL FOR THIS, JUST NOT FOR THE ELEMENT: HTTP://WWW-ODI.NHTSA.DOT.GOV/CARS/PROBLEMS/DEFECT/RESULTS.CFM?ACTION_NUMBER=EA11012&SEARCHTYPE=QUICKSEARCH&SUMMARY=TRUE MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP WANTS $350 TO FIX THIS DEFECT. *TR
TOOK A WELL MAINTAINED 1994 ELEMENT WE HAD OWNED SINCE NEW TO THE HONDA DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND HAD BEEN SEEPING COOLANT FOR A LONG TIME. THIS CRACKED BLOCK WAS UNDOUBTEDLY A HAZARDOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT REQUIRING EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. *TR
EARLY THIS YEAR, APPROXIMATELY MARCH, MY DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BEGAN TO ROCK. IT CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BUSHINGS - THERE ARE SIX OF THEM IN EACH SEAT - ARE WORN. THEY CAN BE REPLACED - AT A PRETTY HIGH COST - BUT THE ISSUE WILL RECUR. REPLACING THE BUSHINGS IS NOT A FIX, JUST ALLEVIATES THE SYMPTOMS TEMPORARILY. IF MY SEAT ROCKS, WHICH IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO DO, HOW LONG BEFORE SOMETHING FAILS? I WOULD LIKE THIS ISSUE CORRECTED BEFORE PEOPLE ARE INJURED DUE TO FAILURE OF SEAT BOLTS DUE TO UNANTICIPATED STRESS TO THEM. *TR

I HAD FILED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN 2010. THE SRV LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE 2010. I DID HAVE THE DRIVER SEAT LATCH REPLACED, THE DEALER CLEARED TO CODE AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OFF FOR TWO DAYS AND THEN RETURNED. THAT IS WHEN I NOTIFIED HONDA AND YOU. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $450.00 TO HAVE THE HARNESS REPLACED. NEEDLESS TO SAY I NO LONGER DO BUSINESS WITH THE DEALER AND I AM NOT SURE IF I WILL EVEN BUY ANOTHER HONDA JUST DUE TO THEIR LACK OF MY INTEREST. IT APPEARS THERE HAS BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS AND OTHER HONDA VEHICLES RECALLED FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I STILL OWN MY HONDA ELEMENT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS YET. TRUE, THEY ARE NO LONGER MANUFACTURING THIS MODEL, BUT THERE IS STILL A LOT OF THEM DRIVING AROUND. I DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM, I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE HARNESS REPLACED. HONDA NOR THE DEALER [XXX] WILLING TO HELP CORRECT IT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND I DO NOT PLAN ON REPLACING IT ANYTIME SOON. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
THE FRONT EDGE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT ROCKS UP AND DOWN WHEN ACCELERATING AND BRAKING. THIS PAST WEEK A GOLD-COLORED NUT ROLLED OUT FROM UNDER THE SEAT, I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT AND IT MATCHES THE OTHER'S THAT FASTEN THE SEAT TO THE SLIDE RAILS AND HEIGHT ADJUSTING MECHANISM. THE SEAT NOW HAS A BIT MORE ROCKING MOTION AND THE FRONT RIGHT CORNER DROPS DOWN MORE, ALONG WITH A METALLIC CLUNKING NOISE, WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS AND ESPECIALLY IF I'M BRAKING AT THE SAME TIME. THE SEATS "LOOSENESS" DOES AFFECT BOTH BRAKING AND ACCELERATING SO HOPEFULLY THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE NUT AND TIGHTEN ANY OTHER LOOSE NUTS, AT NO CHARGE, WHEN I TAKE IT IN. *TR

AN OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON MOST TIME. FIRST TIME IT TURNED ON WAS AUG 2005, THEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A DEALER, THEY TURNED IT OFF. AFTER THAT, IT'S AGAIN AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN, UNTIL THE LAST TIME THAT WAS JUNE 2009, THEY TURN IT OFF AGAIN, AND A SERVICE ADVISER SAID MAY BE A SENSOR OR CONTROL UNIT DEFECTIVE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT TO WORK ON THE MORNING OF MAY 27, 2011 WHEN THE (DRIVERS SIDE) SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THERE WAS NO COLLISION OR KNOWN REASON FOR IT TO DEPLOY. IT STARTLED ME BADLY, NEARLY CAUSING ME TO GO OFF THE ROAD. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A GUN SHOT. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE, GOT OUT AND CHECKED FOR DAMAGE, HOLES. I ONLY NOTICED THE BAG HANGING FROM THE SIDE OF THE SEAT WHEN I WENT TO ENTER THE VEHICLE AGAIN. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAD HAPPENED UNTIL I SAW THAT BAG. MY LEFT UPPER ARM FELT AS IF I HAD BEEN PUNCHED HARD. NETHER MY INSURANCE COMPANY(SAFETY) NOR AMERICAN HONDA WILL COVER THE DAMAGE WHICH WAS ESTIMATED AT A BIT OVER $1500. I PICKED UP MY CAR ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION, THE MECHANIC CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE RIGHT AXLE WAS BAD. I HAD THAT REPLACED STILL HAVE A VIBRATION. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD TO REPLACE THE LEFT AXLE. I CAME UPON AN INTERESTING THREAD ON A FORUM STATING THAT HONDA HELD EDUCATION MEETINGS ABOUT THE FRAME CAUSING THE AXLES TO WEAR INCORRECTLY. INNER JOINT BEARINGS ROLLING OUT OF JOINT, ABNORMAL WEAR. NOT OUTSIDE OF THE SURFACE OF THE BEARINGS BUT ACTUAL INSIDE BEARINGS OCTAGONED. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 68, 000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A HONDA SERVICE MANAGER THAT IT IS EXTREMELY RARE FOR ONE AXLE TO GO BAD AND UNHEARD OF FOR 2 TO GO BAD. I AM WONDERING IF ANYTHING CAN BE DONE IF HONDA IS COVERING UP A FAULTY AXLE PROBLEM AND POSSIBLY FAULTY DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE BEING THAT THE FRAME IS TOO HEAVY FOR THE COMPONENTS. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT MY REAR STRUTS AS WELL AS REAR COMPLIANCE BUSHINGS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL BUT ARE NOT BAD ENOUGH YET. I ALSO HAVE A DRIVER'S SEAT THAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH AND HONDA CLAIMS TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. THIS IS ALSO MY 4TH SET OF TIRES ON THIS CAR. HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE CRV MODEL HONDA. THE ELEMENT HAS THE SAME RUNNING GEAR, BUT NO BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FOR THERE ELEMENT....THE SERVICE BULLETIN WAS NECESSARY BECAUSE THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL LUBRICANT IS FAILING AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES; CAUSING A PARTIAL LOCK UP OF THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THE SERVICE MANUAL CALLS FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID AT 90,000 MILES FOR NORMAL SERVICE AND 60,000 MILES FOR SEVERE SERVICE.. ONE NOTICES A JUDDER ON TURNING THE VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEEDS, AS THE DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCHES BIND WITH THE FAILED LUBRICANT. I SEE A POTENTIAL SEVER SAFETY PROBLEM AS A RESULT OF THE FAILED LUBRICANT AND A LOCKED UP DIFFERENTIAL. IF THE DIFFERENTIAL IS ONLY PARTIALLY BINDING, THIS FORCES THE VEHICLE TO ATTEMPT TO ALWAYS GO IN A STRAIGHT LINE, AS NO DIFFERENTIAL ACTION IS OCCURRING , NOT COMPENSATING FOR THE DIFFERENT TRACK OF THE INSIDE WHEN TURNING THROUGH A CURVE. AT THE MOST SEVERS SITUATION - WET SLICK,OR ICY ROADS, THIS LOCKED DIFFERENTIAL WILL CAUSE THE C=VEHICLE TO TRACK IN A STRAIGHT LINE, INSTEAD OF TURNING THROUGH A CURVE; CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE THE ROAD AND POTENTIALLY CRASH, INJURING THE OCCUPANTS. I CALLED HONDA SERVICE AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS. THEY AGREED SUCH COULD HAPPEN, BUT FELT THE BULLETIN ISSUED ON THE CRV WAS SATISFACTORY TO COVER THE ELEMENT. I DISAGREE, AS OWNERS WERE NOT CONTACTED AND NOTIFIED OF THE POTENTIAL SERIOUS PROBLEM, AND THE NEED TO REPLACE THE OIL AT THE EARLIER MILEAGES. I SUGGEST THAT HONDA MUST BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY ALL OWNERS OF THE EL;EMANATE VERSION, ABOUT THE NEED FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE REQUIRE DIFFERENTIAL OIL, AND THE POTENTIAL OF A SERIOUS INCIDENT IF THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCKS UP FROM THE FAILED DIFFERENTIAL OIL. I FIRST NOTICED THIS WHEN THE DIFFERENTIAL BECAME NOISY AS I TURNED THROUGH A "U" TURN. ON CALLING MY DEALER, I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE CRV BULLETIN.....THOUGH IT DID NOT APPLY TO THE ELEMENT, THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM. *TR
DRIVER'S SEAT IS ROCKING ON HONDA ELEMENT 04. I AM THE FIRST OWNER OF THIS CAR. THE SEAT BEGAN ROCKING WHILE STILL IN WARRANTY BUT IT WASN'T "BAD" ENOUGH TO REQUIRE REPAIR - FINALLY THE DEALER "REPLACED A BOLT" 11/02/06. ALL FURTHER INFO BASED ON REPAIR DATE BECAUSE I DIDN'T RECORD ORIGINAL ROCKING DATE. IT BEGAN ROCKING AGAIN AND THE DEALER "WILL DO HIS BEST" TO DO A NON PERMANENT "BOLT FIX" AGAIN, BUT IT REALLY REQUIRES A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE BACK OR THE SEAT AND THE PARTS THAT HOLD IT TO THE FLOOR "BECAUSE WE CAN'T GET THE COMPONENT WE NEED SEPARATELY" - IT'S OUT OF OUR HANDS - THE FULL REPAIR - OVER $900.00! FOR SOMETHING HONDA KNOWS IS POORLY DESIGNED. COMPLETELY UNSATISFACTORY AND REASON ENOUGH NEVER TO BUY A HONDA AGAIN. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BOLT - BUT IT'S THE ENTIRE DESIGN - AND CAN'T POSSIBLY BE SAFE. THEY ARE GOING TO 'RIG IT" AGAIN. EVERY ELEMENT ACCIDENT WITH INJURY TO THE DRIVER SHOULD REQUIRE A REVIEW OF THIS DEFECT - MAYBE WHEN SOMEONE GETS HURT THERE WILL BE SOME ACTION TAKEN. *TR
MY MOTHER ARRIVED AT MY HOME IN HER ELEMENT TO PICK UP MY CHILDREN. SHE WAS GOING TO DROP OFF SOME ITEMS IN THE HOUSE WHILE MY CHILDREN PROCEEDED TO GET IN THE CAR TO GET IN THEIR CAR SEATS. THE CAR ROLLED BACKWARD INTO THE POND AND THE TWO CHILDREN AGES 3 AND 6 (THANK THE LORD) WERE RESCUED ALIVE WHILE THE CAR QUICKLY SANK. WHEN THE CAR WAS PULLED FROM THE POND IT WAS IN NEUTRAL AND THE KEYS WERE ON THE FLOOR. MY COMPLAINT IS TWOFOLD: MY MOTHER WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND REMOVE THE KEYS WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THE GEAR SHIFT ON THE FLOOR DOES NOT HAVE ANY VISUAL INDICATOR (A RED LINE OR AN ARROW) TO INDICATE THE GEAR THE CAR IS IN. ONCE THE CAR IS SHUT OFF- THE INDICATOR ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LIT. I BELIEVE THAT THE EYE-HAND DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE SHIFTER ON THE FLOOR AND THE INDICATORS ON THE DASH IS A PITFALL FOR USER-ERROR. HAD SHE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REMOVE HER KEYS WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLEAR TO HER THAT SHE HAD NOT PARKED THE CAR CORRECTLY. *TR

UNPROMPTED AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ON MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. SLAMMED CAR DOOR SHUT WHEN IT WAS PARKED AND OFF. HEARD LOUD POP SOUND. DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR, THE SRS LIGHT WAS ON. OPENED FRONT/REAR DOOR AND SAW THAT THE STITCHING ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT WAS ALL TORN AND THE AIRBAG WAS SEMI-EXPOSED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS MY FAULT. I HAD DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE THE SRS SENSOR TO BE DEFECTIVE. THEY TOLD ME TO CLAIM IT VIA INSURANCE. I HAVE SINCE INVESTIGATED AND FOUND MANY MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE-- AND HAVING BEEN TOLD THE SAME EXCUSE. SEEMS TO ME THAT HONDA IS TRYING TO COVER SOMETHING UP. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE PRESS IF NO ONE RESPONDS TO THIS SUBMISSION ASAP. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. I NOTICED FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS EVERY TIME THAT I FILL THE TANK COMPLETELY, I SMELL STRONG GASOLINE FUMES UNTIL I USE ABOUT 4 OR 5 GALLONS. I FAILED A CHATTANOOGA, TN EMISSIONS CHECK. THEY SAID THAT I HAVE A LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK. I NOTICED THE WEB THAT OTHERS HAVE REPORTED LEAKS AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK NEAR THE FILLER CAP FOR THE SAME MODEL YEAR. CAN YOU ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL? THE VEHICLE IS GARAGE KEPT. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS RELATIVELY CLEAN, AND CORROSION DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A FACTOR THAT CAUSED THE LEAK NEAR THE FILLER CAP. *TR
DRIVER SEAT BEGAN ROCKING BACK AND FORTH. MANY OWNERS ON THE HONDA ELEMENT OWNER'S CLUB WEBSITE REPORT THIS PROBLEM FOR THIS AND OTHER MODEL YEARS. H AND A SELLS HARDWARE KITS TO REPLACE SEAT COMPONENTS, BUT THEY ARE EXPENSIVE AND THIS TYPE OF RECURRING PROBLEM SHOULD NOT FALL ON CONSUMERS' SHOULDERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. THE CONTACT'S CHILD WAS RESTRAINED IN A BOOSTER WITH BOTH THE LAP AND SHOULDER BELTS IN PLACE. UPON ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE CHILD FROM THE SAFETY SEAT, THE BELT WOULD CONTINUALLY TIGHTEN AROUND HIS STOMACH AREA. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED; HOWEVER, THE CHILD HAD ALREADY BEEN CUT FROM THE SAFETY SEAT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CHILD WAS IN A LOT OF PAIN. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 30,000.
THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE 04 HONDA ELEMENT. I HAVE SEARCHED ONLINE AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVERS SEAT ROCKING BACK AND FOURTH. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND HONDA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. *TR
WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE COMING FROM MYRTLE BEACH THE WINDSCREEN WAS CRACKED ON THE ELEMENT I PURCHASED ABOUT 3 WEEKS BEFORE THE TRIP. I DID NOT SEE A ROCK HIT , I ASSUMED THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL I STARTED READING THE FORUM ON THE ELEMENT OWNERS CLUB ABOUT SIMILAR SITUATIONS THAT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER ELEMENT OWNERS. THE FIX WAS $330 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE WINDSCREEN. *TR
WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED 3 TIMES WHILE DRIVING DOWN TO ROAD. INSURANCE HAS REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
I OWN A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THE CRACK STARTED UNDER MY WIPER BLADE AND SPREAD UP VERY QUICKLY. I HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED, NOT KNOWING THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM ON 03-04 HONDA ELEMENTS. LAST NIGHT I WENT OUT TO MY CAR AND NOTICED ANOTHER CRACK IN MY WINDSHIELD, WITH THE CRACK OCCURRING WHILE THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO MONTHS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD, THOUGH THIS TIME I WILL DO IT THROUGH A HONDA DEALER AS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS CAUSED THEM TO COVER ALL WINDSHIELDS UP TO 60,000 MILES ON THE CAR. WHICH LEADS ME TO THE CAUSE FOR MY COMPLAINT. HONDA IS COVERING A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW UP TO 60,000 MILES, BUT NOT AFTER. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 48K MILES, LEAVING ME WITH 12K MILES OF COVERAGE. ONCE I REACH 60K MILES I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE COSTS OUT OF POCKET, AND WITH THE REPLACEMENT BEING $250-300 EACH TIME, THAT IS NOT SOMETHING I CAN AFFORD. NOW I MUST TRADE IN MY CAR, A CAR KNOWN TO HAVE A FAULTY DESIGN BY HONDA, FOR FAR LESS THAN A 05 MODEL WOULD BE WORTH WITH SIMILAR MILEAGE. HONDA PUT A BAND AID ON A GAPING FINANCIAL WOUND FOR A CONSUMER. THEIR SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICE WILL CAUSE ME FURTHER FINANCIAL LOSS, HENCE THE REASON FOR THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
MULTIPLE WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENTS. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 2, 2008, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING FROM MILWAUKEE WI TO MADISON WI WHICH IS ABOUT 80 MILES. THERE WAS NO SNOW ON THE ROAD THAT MORNING, ROADS WERE CLEAR. ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT GO OFF. WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS AND MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER TO PULL OVER. WE THEN NOTICED THAT THE SIDE AIRBAG THAT IS LOCATED IN THE DRIVERS SEAT DEPLOYED. NOTHING HIT US, WE HIT NOTHING. CALLED SCHLOSSMANS HONDA CITY THAT MONDAY THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE CAR . THE FIRST THING THEY SAID WAS THAT I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING. THEN MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT AND RUN SOME TESTS ON IT. AGAIN NOTHING. THE SENSOR TRIGGERED THE AIRBAG BUT THERE IS NO DAMAGE ANYWHERE ON MY CAR. THIS REPAIR IS GOING TO COST OVER $1200 HONDA REFUSES TO COVER THIS. I HAVE ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON MY 2004 ELEMENT, MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. I CONTACTED PRIVATE AUTO INSURANCE, I HAVE A $500 DEDUCTIBLE . I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA CORPORATION IN CALIFORNIA AND STARTED A CLAIM BECAUSE I FEEL NOT ONLY SHOULD THEY COVER THIS REPAIR BUT SHOULD CHECK OUT THE OTHER SENSORS AND AIRBAGS IN MY CAR. WHAT IF I GET THIS ONE FIXED AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN? WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR WORSE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET, SEEMS THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH HONDA'S AIRBAGS. THEY EITHER DEPLOY WHEN THEY AREN'T SUPPOSE TO OR DON'T DEPLOY IN SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. I BELIEVE THIS IS HONDA'S RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK ALL AIRBAGS IN CERTAIN MODELS. CURRENTLY MY CAR IS NOT FIXED, I AM STILL WORKING WITH HONDA CITY PETE LOBERG, MGR. WHO IS DOING ALL HE CAN TO ASSIST ME. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES YOUR ASSISTANCE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF PEOPLE IN THEIR CARS WITH THESE AIRBAGS. *TR
AIR BAGS AND CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. AIR BAGS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BROUGHT TO DEALER. CABLE REEL ASSEMBLY IN STEERING COLUMN WAS BAD. DEALER SAID I HAD TO PAY FOR NEW ASSEMBLY AND LABOR. *TR
2004 HONDA ELEMENT WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT STRESS POINT LOCATED ON DRIVER'S SIDE WHERE INSPECTION STICKERS USUALLY APPEAR. NO PITTING, NO IMPACT POINT FROM FLYING DEBRIS. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA ELEMENT. HAD DRIVEN THE CAR AN HOUR EARLIER AND NO CRACK. *TR
WALKED OUT TO VEHICLE IN THE AFTERNOON, NOTICED WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. CRACK GREW OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS TO ABOUT 9". STARTED IN LOWER PART OF WINDSHIELD (NEAR VIN MARKER)WENT VERTICAL FOR ABOUT 3" THEN RAN HORIZONTAL FOR 6". *TR
CRACKED WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, BROKEN DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR AND A HORN THAT HAS ONE BROKEN PITCH, LEAVING THE PITCH VERY LOW, ALMOST NOT NOTICEABLE. IT HAS BEEN THAT WAY FOR A YEAR, BUT DID NOT FIND THIS SITE UNTIL NOW. TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. *JB
THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN MY '04 HONDA ELEMENT EX ROCKS BACK, ESPECIALLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. IT FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO COME RIGHT OFF THE TRACK OR THAT THE BOLT WILL COME COMPLETELY LOOSE CAUSING THE SEAT OF MOVE IN SOME UNSAFE ANNER. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY IF INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE IT MIGHT JUST SHEAR RIGHT OFF. THE SEAT WAS LOOSE WHEN I PURCHASED THE USED CAR. THE DEALER TIGHTENED IT AND NEVER MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING, UNSOLVED PROBLEM. I TOLD THE SALESMAN THAT I WOULD NOT BUY IF THE SEAT WAS NOT FIXED. WITHIN TWO MONTHS IT WAS LOOSE AND ROCKING. THE DEALERSHIPS TECHNICIAN SAID IT WAS "A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL." THAT IS AN UNSATISFACTORY ANSWER. HONDA SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGE. *TR
MY WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED ABOUT 4 TIMES-WE HAVE GIVEN UP-BROUGHT IT TO 2 HONDA DEALERS-ACTED AS IF THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS. *TR
WENT INTO SHOPPING MALL , CAME OUT AND FOUND WINDSHIELD CRACKED IN LOWER LEFT CORNER ON DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAD RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM HONDA CONCERNING WINDSHIELD CRACKING RESULTING FROM LITTLE OR NO IMPACT". A FEW MONTHS EARLIER I TOOK IT TO DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS FROM AN UNKNOWN IMPACT, AND WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. I SHOWED THEM THE LETTER AND ASKED THEM TO DEFINE"LITTLE OR NO IMPACT WHICH WAS IN THE LETTER - THEY DECLINED AND SAID THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. *AK

WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE IN THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT! *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO USE THE HORN IT WAS INOPERABLE. OCCASIONALLY WHEN THE HORN WORKED THE SOUND WAS VERY LOW. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. *AK UPDATED 03/19/07. *JB
DESIGN PROBLEM: ON MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT, THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR IS NOT LOUD ENOUGH TO HEAR, OR BRIGHT ENOUGH TO SEE. FURTHERMORE, IT SEEMS THE (AUTOMATIC) SWITCH TO TURN THE TURN SIGNAL OFF IS NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY. THE RESULT OF THESE DESIGN FLAWS IS THAT I FIND THAT MY TURN SIGNAL IS LEFT ON AFTER MAKING TURNS THAT ARE < 90 DEGREES. AFTER REVIEWING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE DEALER, THEY SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT THE PROBLEM. RECCOMENDATION: MAKE ALL TURN SIGNALS MEET MINIMUM AUDIBLE/ VISUAL STANDARDS AND HAVE TIME OUT DEVICES THAT AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF TURN SIGNALS AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME. *NM
THE HORN ON MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY ANYMORE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY HONDA ELEMENT OWNER HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HORN IN THERE CAR AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM, IT SEEMS THAT THE HORN STOPS WORKING AFTER 36, 000 MILES. *NM
HEATER CORE IS DEFECTIVE. NEEDS TO BE REPLACED @ $1100. DID NOT NOTICE TROUBLE UNTIL WEATHER TURNED COLD SO IT PROBABLY STARTED WELL BEFORE MY 36000/36 MONTHS WARRANTY RAN OUT,PLUS WE HAD A MILD WINTER IN MD IN 2006/07. VEHICLE HAD 39,377 WHEN TAKEN INTO DEALER. MOSTLY, I CANNOT BELIEVE THE HEATER CORE WOULD WEAR OUT SO SOON. IT WAS MOST LIKELY DEFECTIVE FROM THE FACTORY. I ALWAYS NOTICED VERY LITTLE HEAT FROM THE FLOOR VENTS WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BUT THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A DESIGN ISSUE, NOT A MECHANICAL ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER @ ANOTHER DEALER WAS SHOCKED IT NEED REPLACEMENT SO SOON. *JB
THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN OUR '04 HONDA ELEMENT EX IS ACTUALLY ROCKING BACK AND FORTH AND SIDEWAYS! IT FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO COME RIGHT OFF THE TRACK. THIS SEEMS LIKE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY IF INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE IT MIGHT JUST SHEAR RIGHT OFF. THIS BEGAN WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF OWNING THE CAR AND HAS PROGRESSED. WE HAVE HEARD MANY OTHERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, SO WE KNOW IT'S NOT ISOLATED. ALL THE DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD US IT WOULD COST US TO HAVE IT FIXED, SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL. THIS IS CRAZY! *NM
MY FRONT WINDSHIELD CHIPPED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE HONDA DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT 2003 AND 2004 HONDA ELEMENTS ARE PRONE TO THIS PROBLEM BUT CLAIMED HE HAS NO AUTHORITY TO MAKE THE REPAIR. I HAVE NOW FOUND THIS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. HONDA EVEN SENT A SERVICE BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERS (03-028 DATED MAY 6, 2003) DETAILING HOW TO CORRECT THE UNEVEN WINDSHIELD FLANGE SURFACE CAUSING THE WINDSHIELDS TO CRACK. THE UNEVEN WINDSHIELD FLANGE SURFACE AND UPRIGHT ANGLE OF THE WINDSHIELD CAUSE STRESSES IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAKE IT UNNECESSARILY LIKELY TO CHIP OR CRACK. THIS DESIGN FLAW IS HONDA'S RESPONSIBILITY AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED. *NM
STRESS CRACK(S) IN WINDSHIELD . HONDA REPLACED ONE, REFUSED TO DO MORE. NOW ON 4TH WINDSHIELD. SECOND ELEMENT HAS PICKED UP 4 CRACKS IN 6 MONTHS. *JB
MY WINDSHIELD HAS STARTED TO CRACK, VERY SIMILAR TO PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON THIS WEBSITE ABOUT EARLIER MODEL YEAR HONDA ELEMENTS. THE CRACK STARTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DASH ABOUT 12 INCHES FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE LEFT EDGE. THERE ARE NO, REPEAT NO CHIPS OR DINGS THAT MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS EVENT. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT HONDA IS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS ON THE ADDITIONAL MODEL YEAR ELEMENTS. THOSE PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED THAT THE WELDED SEAMS ALONG WHERE THE WINDSHIELD RESTS ON THE FRAME HAD HIGH SPOTS THAT WERE CAUSING THE STRESS CRACKS. CURRENTLY, THE CRACK IS ABOUT 12 INCHES LONG, BUT GROWS A LITTLE MORE EVERY WEEK. SURE, I COULD HAVE MY INSURANCE COMPANY REPLACE IT, AND I PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE, BUT THIS IS A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM THAT HONDA HAS BEEN HAVING AND I EXPECT HONDA TO FIX IT, ESPECIALLY SINCE ACCORDING TO THE STATE ON MARYLAND, CRACKED WINDSHIELDS ARE A SAFETY CONCERN, SO I EXPECT THIS AGENCY TO FORWARD THIS COMPLAINT TO HONDA. *JB
2004 HONDA ELEMENT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. *KB THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT SHE PROBABLY HIT A POT HOLE. *JB
2004 HONDA ELEMENT WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE SITTING IN PARKING LOT BEHIND MY HOME. VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME THE CRACK OCCURRED. CRACK BEGINS AT TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND CURVES TOWARD THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. *JB
ON A RESENT TRIP TO COLDER CLIMATES, WHERE THERE WAS STILL SOME SNOW ON THE GROUND, WHILE PARKING IN A PARKING LOT, I HIT A SMALL PATCH OF SNOW AND SLID INTO A TREE. NORMALLY I WOULD EXPECT NO DAMAGE DUE TO THE LOW SPEED I WAS TRAVELING AT AROUND 5 MPH AND CAR BUMPERS TO PROTECT THE VEHICLE IN LOW SPEED MISHAPS. HOWEVER, WITH THE DESIGN OF THE 2004 HONDA ELEMENT I OWN THERE IS NO BUMPER IN THE FRONT CENTER FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 INCHES. THIS LEAVES THE CAR WITH NO PROTECTION IF STRUCK IN THAT AREA. THERE WERE TWO PASSENGERS IN THE CAR AT THE TIME. WHILE WE WERE HARDLY EVEN JOLTED BY THE IMPACT, THE CAR SUSTAINED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE IN THE AMOUNT OF OVER $7000. HOWEVER MY CONCERN HERE IS NOT LIMITED TO WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AT SUCH A LOW SPEED IMPACT BUT ALSO WHAT WOULD BE THE RESULT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IF THE CAR WAS STRUCK OR SKIDDED IN A SIMILAR WAY AS MY ACCIDENT. THE RESULTS WOULD PROBABLY BE DISASTROUS WITH CONSIDERABLE LOSSES POSSIBLE. IF POSSIBLE THEN, THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE CORRECTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *NM
2004 HONDA ELEMENT. CRACKED WINDSHIELD X3 FIXES.....CRACKED AGAIN BY NO FAULT OF ROCKS. *JB
2004 HONDA ELEMENT : 2ND WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT IN 6 MONTHS . THE CRACKS ALWAYS START IN THE BLACK AREA FROM BELOW THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES. *JB HONDA DENIES ANY KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE WINDSHIELD FRAME . HONDA REPLACED FIRST WINSHIELD APPROX. 6 MONTHS AGO . THE 2ND REPLACEMENT HONDA REFUSED TO COVER/WARRANTY. I HAVE A SIGNED STATEMENT FROM THE WINDOW TECHNICHIAN THAT CAME OUT AND REPLACED MY 2ND WINDSHIELD STATING; THE CRACK IN MY WINSHIELD WAS CAUSED BY STRESS AND THAT THE BOTTOM CORNERS OF THE PINCHWELD ON BOTH SIDES ARE BROKE AWAY FROM THE WELDS AND ARE LOOSE . MY INSURANCE POLICY COVERED THE 2ND REPLACEMENT HOWEVER, I FEEL HONDA SHOULD HAVE. AFTER RESEARCHING MY VEHICLE TODAY ON LINE, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST AMERICAN HONDA AND AN ALARMING NUMBER SITES WITH HONDA ELEMENT OWNERS OR LEASERS SHARING MY SAME CONCERNS . I WANT HONDA IN WRITTING, ASSURE ME THAT THIS DEFECT IN DESIGN OR, THE WAY THEY WILL ATTEMPT TO FIX IT WILL NOT CAUSE INJURY TO ME OR MY PASSENGERS OR LOSS OF LIFE TO MYSELF OR MY PASSENGERS IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT . I WOULD ALSO LIKE THEM TO WARANTY THE WINDSHIELD FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE .
A STRESS CRACK APPEARED IN THE WINDSHIELD OF MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. CRACK BEGAN FROM BELOW THE PLASTIC MOLDING AND BELOW THE LEFT WINDSHIELD WIPER. THERE WAS NO IMPACT POINT FROM A ROCK OR OTHER OBJECT. DEALER ATTEMPTED TO BLAME IT ON A SMALL CHIP IN THE AREA OF THE CRACK--CHIP WAS 1/2 MM IN DIAMETER AND 1/4 OF A MM IN DEPTH. I HAVE NUMEROUS SMALL CHIPS LIKE THIS AND NONE HAVE CAUSED A CRACK. THE DEALER AT FIRST CLAIMED THE CRACK WAS CAUSED BY THE SMALL CHIP. AFTER I POINTED OUT OTHER CHIPS AND ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE 2003 SERVICE BULLETIN AND CURRENT LAWSUIT, THE MANAGER CALLED THE HONDA REP. THE HONDA REP SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE IT AS A ONE TIME GOOD WILL GESTURE--THUS, RELIEVING THEMSELVES OF ANY LIABILITY. *JB
HONDA ELEMENT - DRIVER SEAT STARTED ROCKING 7 MONTHS OLD. UNSAFE. CLEARLY SOME IS LOOSE AND THERE ARE THE COMPLAINT IS OUT THERE AND REAL. THIS IS TRULY UNSAFE AND SHOULD BE EMBRACED ASAP. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A SCREECHING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR BRAKES WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT SPEEDS OF 2 MPH AND ABOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR AN INSPECTION DUE TO THE NOISE. THE INSPECTOR DETERMINED THE BRAKE PADS WERE WORN AND THE ROTORS WERE SCORED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE REAR BRAKE PAD AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THE TIRES WERE WORN AROUND THE TREAD ALTHOUGH, NO INCIDENTS OR PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED ABOUT THE TIRES PREVIOUSLY. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED, THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE VEHICLE AND THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS A PART OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THE REAR ABS ROTOR WAS BADLY WORN. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE TIRE BECAUSE IT WAS LOOSING AIR DUE TO A SCREW. UPDATED 03/09/06
HONDA NEEDS TO ADMIT FAULT ON THEIR WINDSHIELDS AND RECALL THEIR ELEMENTS. MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND DEALER WILL NOT MAKE GOOD ON THEIR DEFECTS. *JB
BOUGHT A NEW 2004 HONDA ELEMENT IN MAY 2004 AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE WINDSHIELD DUE TO CRACK ONCE PLUS REPAIRED TWO STONE CHIPS. PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD OUT OF OWN POCKET AS DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE AFTER EXAMINING WITH PEN. ONCE AGAIN RECEIVED ANOTHER CRACKED WINDSHIELD YESTERDAY AFTER BEING HIT BY A ROCK ON THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY HOME. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT, I HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP...FORTUNATELY THE DEALER CONSIDERED IT A "STRESS CRACK" & REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD AT NO COST TO ME. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS, I NOTICED ANOTHER CRACK, I HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO REPAIR IT AS IT WAS IN A NON-CRITICAL AREA. IT HAS NOW BEEN ABOUT 1 YEAR & THERE ARE NOW 3 CRACKS IN THE "NEW" WINDSHIELD...CLEARLY THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES & HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE WINDSHIELDS LIKE THIS?. *JB
HONDA ELEMENT WINDSHIELD CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF PURCHASE FROM THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD UP. CAME OUT ONE MORNING AND THERE WAS THE CRACK. NO ROCK IMPACT AS THE DEALER ALLEGED! THEY JAMMED A SHARP PEN INTO THE CRACK, AND SAID, LOOK, THIS WAS CAUSED BY A ROCK, & REFUSED TO REPAIR IT. CRIMINAL, IF YOU ASK ME! MANY OTHER ELEMENT OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THIS SAME PROBLEM TO ME. ALSO, THE WINDSHIELD WAS PRONE TO ATTRACTING ROCK & PEBBLE OFF THE ROADS, A SEPARATE ISSUE FROM THAT COMMON CRACKING PROBLEM. IT'S A DANGEROUS FLAW THAT HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND REPAIR. A RECALL IS IN ORDER!*AK
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 395 IN CALIFRONIA COMING BACK FROM MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN IN MY 04 HONDA ELEMENT WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CRACK FROM MY WINDSHIELD AND DISCOVERED AN L SHAPE CRACK FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE, THERE WAS NOT A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER I GOT HOME THE CRACK GREW 4 INCHES UPWARD. WENT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS BOTH TOLD ME IT IS CAUSE BY A ROCK HIT. I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT WAS CAUSE BY A ROCK, I DID A SEARCH ON GOOGLE, THIS SEEM TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ELEMENT. I FINALLY HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACE, OLD WINDSHIELD WAS DESTROYED BY THE REPAIR SHOP. *JB
I OWN A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT EX. IN APPROXIMATELY DECEMBER 2004, THE WINDSHIELD SUFFERED THREE LINEAR CRACKS WITHIN A TWO WEEK PERIOD OF TIME. I DID NOT OBSERVE OR HEAR ANY ROAD DEBRIS STRUCK THE WINDSHIELD OR CAUSE THESE CRACKS. ONE CRACK EMANATED FROM THE LOWER CORNER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, ONE FROM APPROXIMATELY MID-POINT ON A-PILLAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, AND ONE FROM THE LOWER DRIVER'S SIDE CORNER. A SERVICE MANAGER REVIEWED THE CRACKS AND DETERMINED THAT TWO OF THE CRACKS WERE CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS BECAUSE OF A MINUTE PIT IN EACH OF THE TWO CRACKS. HE DID NOT OBSERVE A PIT IN THE THIRD CRACK AND REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD UNDER WARRANTY. IN APPROXIMATELY DECEMBER 2005 THE WINDSHIELD SUFFERED FOUR CRACKS WITHIN A THREE WEEK PERIOD OF TIME. THE CRACKS OCCURRED AT SEPARATE TIMES AND AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. THREE OF THE FOUR CRACKS WERE STARBURST CRACKS AND HAVE NOT SPREAD. ONE OF THE STARBURST CRACKS OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND I OBSERVED WHAT APPEARED TO BE SMALL STONE CAUSE THE CRACK. I HEARD THE SUBSEQUENT TWO STARBURST CRACKS OCCUR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE FOURTH CRACK IS A LINEAR CRACK EMANATING FROM THE UPPER CORNER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. IT INCREASES IN SIZE BY APPROXIMATELY 1/4 INCH OVERNIGHT, AS IT IS LONGER EACH MORNING WHEN I GET IN THE CAR. THE CRACK HAS TRAVELED INTO THE DRIVER'S LINE OF VISION. THERE IS A HONDA TSB FOR 2003 HONDA ELEMENTS NOTING POSSIBLE STRESS FRACTURES IN THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I AM NOT AWARE OF A SIMILAR NOTICE FOR 2004 MODEL YEAR, NOR AM I AWARE OF ANY RECALL NOTICE FOR ANY MODEL YEAR. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE A DEFECT IN THE MOUNTING SURFACE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAY RESULT IN SUCH STRESS FRACTURES. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT QUALITY OF GLASS USED FOR THE WINDSHIELD NOT SUFFICIENT FOR ROAD USE. THE INHERENT RISK CAUSED BY THIS APPARENT DEFECT WARRANTS INVESTIGATION AND/OR REMEDY. *JB
CRACKED WINDSHIELD ON LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. NOT CAUSED BY FLYING DEBRIS. ACCORDING TO OTHER HONDA ELEMENT OWNERS ONLINE, THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND IS HAPPENING IN THE SAME GENERAL LOCATION ON WINDSHIELD. A STRESS FRACTURE SEEMS TO BE THE COMMON CONCLUSION AS TO THE CAUSE. *JB
HONDA ELEMENT DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD HAS STRESS CRACKS AT BOTH ENDS. HONDA HAS REFUSED TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD DESIGN OR INSTALLATION. BOTH CRACKS HAPPENED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE, THERE IS NO ROAD DAMAGE FROM ROCKS OR OTHER IMPACTS RELATED TO THE CRACKS. THE VEHICLE IS NOW UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE WINDSHIELD IS REPLACED. *NM
WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK STARTING FROM BELOW THE RIGHT WIPER BLADE AND GOES UP 4 INCHES AND THEN TOWARD THE RIGHT PILLAR 12 INCHES NO VISIBLE "HIT" MARK CRACK JUST APPEARED. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED ON THE LOWER QUARTER OF THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED SOMETHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD, AND WILL NOT ASSIST IN THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE ANYTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. *AK UPDATED 12/27/05. *JB
PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A MAJOR STREET. WHEN PULLING OUT IT IS ACROSS A VERY UNEVEN SPOT IN THE ROAD PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN A BIND. AT THIS TIME THE WINDSHIELD "POPPED" AND CRACKED IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER. *JB WINDSHIELD IS NOW BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY USAGE. DEALERSHIP FLATLY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND SENT ME ON MY WAY.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED STARTED FROM BELOW PASSENGER SIDE WIPER AND SPREADING TOWARD MIDDLE AND UPWARD. JUST AS EVERYONE ELSE. *CA *JB
I HAVE HAD MY HONDA ELEMENT INTO MY DEALER FOR THE SAME CREAKING ISSUE IN THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE OVER 6 TIMES. EVERYTIME IT'S NOT FIXED AND THEY MANAGE TO MESS UP SOMETHING ELSE. LATEST IS I HAVE NO REAR HATCH LIGHT AND THE GRAB HANDLE FALLS OFF. *JB
GOODYEAR TIRE (SIZE- P215-70-R16) WRANGLER-HP-99S STOCK ON 2004 HONDA ELEMENT -4WD-EX-4AT. FLAT TIRE ON INTERSTATE,TRAVELED LESS THAN 1/4 MILE AFTER TIRE DEFLATED. CHANGED TIRE WENT DIRECTLY TO RESIDENCE ABOUT 2.5 MILES. I INFLATED THE TIRE ONCE I REACHED MY RESIDENCE TO OBSERVE ANY AIR FLOW COMING FROM A FOREIGN OBJECT THAT I MAY HAVE ENCOUNTERED ON THE INTERSTATE. NOTHING NOTICEABLE IN TREAD AREA. I TURNED THE TIRE OVER TO LOOK AT THE BACK SIDE OF THE TIRE AND NOTICED 6 RIPPLES(BUBBLES) ON THE TIRE. TIRE DESTROYED. I ACTUALLY CALLED 14 DIFFERENT TIRE STORES AND EVERY STORE INFORMED ME THAT THIS TIRE WAS NOT A STOCK ITEM AND ASKED ME "WHY WOULD I PUT THESE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE?" I SAID I DIDN'T,THIS WAS A STOCK TIRE WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN MARCH,2005. ANYWAYS, TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT( NO ONE) HAD THIS TIRES. NOT EVEN THE CAR DEALER CRISWELL HONDA." EVERYONE," "EVERYONE WILL HAVE TO SPECIAL ORDER THEM." SO MAY I ADD IF YOU BUY ONE OF THESE VEHICLES MAKE SURE ANY TIRE IS AVAILABLE -AFTER MARKET- SO YOU DO NOT GET STUCK IN THIS DILEMMA. *JB
I WAS WAITING TO CROSS OVER THE BAY BRIDGE AND A CRACK SURFACED OUT OF NOWHERE FROM THE LOWER DRIVER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT THAT DAY, TEMPERATURE IN EXCESS OF 90F.
I HAVE HAD TWO WINDOW GLASS ISSUES WITH MY HONDA ELEMENT. (1) IN DEC04 WHILE DRIVING 30 MILES TO WORK, 5 WINDSHELD CRACKS APPEARED. ALL STARTED AT EDGES OF GLASS AND MOVED INWARD. THEY WERE LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM AND SIDE EDGES. (2) IN JULY05 I LEFT WORK TO DISCOVER THAT MY RIGHT REAR WINDOW HAD EXPLODED. POLICE OFFICER REPORTED THAT THIS WAS NOT A CRIMINAL ACT, BUT MORE LIKELY AN ERROR WITH GLASS INSTALLATION. I REPORTED THE LATER INCIDENT TO HONDA AND THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR/REPLACE UNDER MY WARRENTY. AND WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONABLITY FOR THIS FAULTY GLASS.
I'VE HAD 3 CRACKED WINDSHIELDS IN MY HONDA ELEMENT NOW. THE FIRST WAS AT APPROXIMATLY 11,000 MILES, THE SECOND WAS AT APPROXIMATLY 17,000 MILES, AND NOW THE THIRD CRACKED WINDSHIELD WAS AT APPROXIMATLY 20,000 MILES. THE FIRST TWO WERE FIXED UNDER SOME SORT OF "ONE TIME" GAURANTEE. THE 3RD CRACK, I'M DEBATING WHETHER TO SELL THE CAR OR JUST DRIVE WITH THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD UNTIL I CAN NO LONGER SEE OUT OF IT. WHY FIX IT IF IT IS JUST GOING TO KEEP ON CRACKING!?! EVENTUALLY HONDA WILL REFUSE TO FIX IT FOR FREE!
DT: CONSUMER STATES THERE ARE TWO CRACKS THAT HAVE FORMED ON THE WINDSHIELD OF HIS VEHICLE. THE CRACKS STARTED OUT APPROXIMATELY 1-1 1/2 INCHES, NOW THEY ARE APPROXIMATELY 8 INCHES. THE TWO CRACKS SEEM TO BE GOING IN THE DIRECTION WHERE THEY WILL MEET. *TT
WINDSHIELD CRACKED DUE TO STRESS AT THE BOTTOM EDGE ON 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. DEALERSHIP AND HONDA USA DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND REFUSE TO REPAIR IT. CRACK DOES NOT ORIGINATE FROM A ROCK IMPACT BUT HONDA USA POLICY IS TO RULE ALL CRACKS AS RESULTING FROM ROCK IMPACT.
ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD OF MY HONDA ELEMENT. THE CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD IS ABOUT 4 WEEKS OLD; IT HAD STARTED OVERNIGHT - IT WASN'T THERE WHEN I PARKED IT, BUT WAS THERE THE NEXT MORNING. I THOUGHT THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH A SMALL CRACK, BUT DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH ON PROBLEMS WITH THE HONDA ELEMENT AND FOUND SEVERAL INCIDENCES OF A CRACK IN THE WINDOW STARTING IN THE SAME PLACE. I EVEN FOUND A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB 03-028) THAT ADDRESSED THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I PURCHASED MY 04 HONDA ELEMENT IN MID-DECEMBER OF 2004, AND AT THE TIME OF THE CRACK THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 10,000 MILES. I HAVE READ THAT IF THERE WAS AN IMPACT POINT THAT CAUSED THE CRACK, THAT IMPACT POINTS ALWAYS HAVE A STAR CRACK PATTERN AROUND THEM. MINE HAS NO CRACK PATTERN EXCEPT THE LARGER CRACK THAT MOVED UPWARD AND THEN TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF MY WINDSHIELD - NO STAR SHAPE. I HAVE ALSO READ ABOUT THE SURFACE OF THE WINDSHIELD BEING UNEVEN AND THAT A HIGH SPOT APPLIES UNEVEN PRESSURE TO THE GLASS CAUSING A STRESS CRACK. FURTHER, THAT A STRESS CRACK IS IDENTIFIED BY A HORIZONTAL CRACKS ORIGINATING IN THE LOWER CORNERS OF THE AND RADIATING TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THIS IS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM. I REPEAT, THE PIT WAS SMALLER THAN THE SIZE OF A GRAIN OF SALT AND LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER THE WIPER BLADE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, AND WAS TURNED AWAY WHEN I TRIED TO HAVE MY WINDOW REPAIRED. THIS SITUATION IS NOT UNIQUE TO MY HONDA ELEMENT. THERE ARE MANY OTHER ELEMENT OWNERS THAT HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING UNDER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. HONDA HAS SYSTEMATICALLY ?FOUND? THAT THESE CRACKS WERE CAUSED BY ROCKS, ALTHOUGH ADMITTING IN A SERVICE BULLETIN TO ITS DEALERS THAT THIS IS A SYMPTOM OF HONDA ELEMENTS, AND THAT IT IS PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE WINDSHIELD FLANGE SURFACE BEING UNEVEN. *JB
WHILE PARKED IN A SECURED PARKING LOT WINDSHIELD CRACKED OVERNIGHT. THE CRACK WAS IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER. OWNER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS ADVISED TO BUY ANOTHER. OWNER LATER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO FIX THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD WHICH IS UNDER WARRANTY. MANUFACTURER BELIEVED THAT ROAD DEBRIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE CRACK. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.*AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS STATED IN TECHNICAL SERVIC EBULLETIN 100929. A LONG CRACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD APPEARED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
WINDSHIELD CRACKED AFTER NO APPARENT IMPACT. IT WAS A COLD MORNING/AFTERNOON. CAR WAS GARAGED AT HOME AND AT WORK. THE CRACK WAS NOTICED UPON RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE AFTER WORK. CRACK STARTED 12-14 INCHES FROM LOWER EDGE OF PASSENGER SIDE. EXTENDED FROM BENEATH WINDOW SEAL VERTICALLY FOR 5-6 INCHES AND TURNED ABRUPTLY TOWARD PASSENGER SIDE EDGE FOR 6-8 INCHES. DEALER IDENTIFIED IT AS A STRESS RELATED CRACK WITH NO APPARENT IMPACT POINT. REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
FIRE OCCURRED IN DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF 2004 HONDA ELEMENT WHILE IT WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT IN THE DRIVEWAY. FRONT UPPER QUARTER OF DOOR COMPLETELY BURNED/MELTED AWAY, DOWN TO BARE EXTERIOR METAL. EXTENSIVE SMOKE DAMAGE TO INTERIOR. VEHICLE WAS IN CONSUMER'S POSSESSION FOR ONLY 12 DAYS AND HAS FEWER THAN 300 MILES ON ODOMETER. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT IS STILL UNDER EXAMINATION. NO EXPLANATION OR RESOLUTION AT THIS TIME.
A CRACK STARTED ON THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD JUST LIKE OTHER ELEMENTS.*AK
2004 HONDA ELEMENT - DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (NO GRAVEL) IN LIGHT-SUNDAY TRAFFIC AND HEARD A "POP". NEXT DAY, NOTICED A CRACK EMERGING FROM THE BOTTOM, PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD THAT ARCED ABOUT A FOOT ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD WITHIN TWO DAYS. JOE MARINA HONDA SAID IT WAS AN IMPACT ISSUE AND REFUSED TO REPAIR.*AK
2004 HONDA ELEMENT, AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP A CRACK IN WINDOW STARTED FROM LOWER RIGHT CORNER. DEALER CLAIMED A SMALL PEBBLE MUST HAVE STRUCK IT AND REFUSED TO REPLACE IT. HAD INSURANCE REPLACE IT.*AK NEXT DAY A SECOND PEBBLE STRIKES WINDSHIELD AND A STAR CRACK FORMS NON MY NEW WINSHIELD. TWO WEEKS LATER AND I HEAR A NOISE AND ANOTHER CRACK STARTS AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD AND GROWS ABOUT 12 INCHES IN AN HOUR. HOW MANY WINDSHIELDS WILL I NEED IN A YEAR?
I OWN A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. AS WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS, I HAVE A STRESS CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD WITH NO DISCERNIBLE CAUSE. HONDA REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN ACCIDENT NOR IS THERE A ROAD STONE INCIDENT. THE CRACK GOES FROM JUST UNDER THE LEFT SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER, UP AND TO THE LEFT TO THE SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT HAS A VERTICAL COMPONENT OF APPROX. 6 INCHES AND THEN A HORIZONTAL COMPONENT OF 3 INCHES. THE CRACK CANNOT BE FELT ON THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. *JB
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. LIKE MANY OTHER ELEMENT OWNERS, I'VE JUST HAD MY FIRST CRACKED WINDSHIELD, 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. I'VE ALSO HAD MY FIRST EXPERIENCE TRYING TO GET HONDA TO ADMIT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSHIELD IN THIS VEHICLE. THERE IS NO IMPACT MARK, BUT A CRACK RUNNING FROM UNDER THE RUBBER SEAL , UP AND ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS VERY SURE THAT AN IMPACT MUST HAVE CAUSED THIS, EVEN THOUGH HE COULD NOT FIND A SPECIFIC MARK USING THE IMFAMOUS "PEN TEST". I'VE READ NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. WHEN IS THE NHTSA GOING TO FORCE HONDA TO ADMIT THEY HAVE A DESIGN PROBLEM?!? *NM
THE WINDSHIELD IS EXPERIENCING MAJOR CRACKS WITHOUT ANY CAUSE, WHICH CAN AT ANYTIME BREAK. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY CONSUMER. *NM
CRACKED WINDSHIELD. SAME COMPLAINT AS EVERYONE ELSE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN THE GARAGE AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FROM THE SEAM HALF WAY UP ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE DEALER INSISTED THIS WAS NOT A FLAW OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS DUE TO A ROCK HITTING THE SEAM THOUGH THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE OF THIS. IN THE MEANTIME, THE LEFT SIDE HAS DONE THE EXACT SAME THING. THE WINDSHIELD IS ON BACK ORDER FOR OVER A MONTH. AFTER SEEING ALL OF THE LISTINGS HERE I CAN SEE WHY THERE AREN'T ANY LEFT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE FOR MANY OWNERS. SPOKE TO HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN TODAY AND THEY STILL DENY THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND CLAIMED THEY'VE NOT HEARD OF THIS BEING A COMMON PROBLEM. VERY DISAPPOINTING. THIS IS MY 4TH HONDA AND AS A RESULT OF ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE (THIS IS MINOR IN COMPARISON) I WON'T BE BUYING ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN AND WILL BE GETTING RID OF THIS ONE. *NM
WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM THE DEALER. IT BEGAN TO LEAK TRANSMISSION FLUID. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WITH THE COMPLAINT. THEY SAID THEY'D TAKE A LOOK AT IT, BUT IT WAS A WASTE OF TIME. THEY CLAIMED IT COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE LEAKING AND ANY FLUID I SAW WAS CONDENSATION FROM THE AC. THE GAVE IT BACK TO ME IN A FEW HOURS CLAIMING IT WAS FINE AND AGAIN SAID THE FLUID WAS CONDENSATION. I ARGUED AND SAID IT WAS OILY. THEY CLAIMED THIS WAS BECAUSE MY GARAGE FLOOR WAS OILY. THE RESPONSE TO ME WAS: "I'M SO CONFIDENT IT IS WATER I'LL COME OVER AND LICK OF THE GARAGE FLOOR. NEW CARS DON'T LEAK." WELL, IT DID LEAK AND LOADS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. I HAD TO MOP UP THE FLUID AND RETURN WITH THE SOAKED RAG AND THE VEHICLE TO GET THEM TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK. I HAD TO HAVE AN ENTIRELY NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. THIS IS MY 4TH HONDA. I'VE NEVER HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH A VEHICLE AS I'VE HAD WITH THIS ELEMENT. I'VE ONLY HAD IT 3 MONTHS NOW. VERY DISAPPOINTING. *NM
I HAVE A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. IT HAS LESS THAN 5000 MILES ON IT. THE WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED BUT NOTHING EVER HIT THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK STARTS UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER GOES UP ABOUT 6-8 INCHES AND THEN SPREADS TOWARD THE DRIVER'S SIDE ABOUT 12 INCHES. THIS IS A DEFECT AND HONDA SHOULD STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF IT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THIS CRACK WAS NOT THERE LAST NIGHT WHEN I PARKED MY CAR, BUT WAS THERE THIS MORNING WHEN I GOT BACK IN MY CAR. *NM
I OWN A 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. IT WAS SUBJECT A CRACKED WINDSHIELD DUE TO THE FACT THAT HONDA HAS A DESIGN FLAW WITH ITS WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION. THERE ARE STRESS POINTS WHICH CAUSE CRACKS IN THE BOTTOM CORNERS OF THE GLASS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR THE ELEMENT AS HONDA HAS RELEASED A SERVICE REPORT FOR ITS DEALERS, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.*AK
2ND OCCURRENCE OF WINDSHIELD CRACK. 1ST EVENT ON 12-05-04. OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE PARKED-VERTICAL CRACK FROM UNDER TRIM BELOW DRIVER SIDE WIPER; TEE'D AT 6" AND WENT SIDE TO SIDE HORIZONTALLY. DEALER REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT CRACK. WINDSHIELD REPLACED ON 12-10-04. 2ND OCCURRENCE ON 02-15-05 WHILE VEHICLE PARKED IN GARAGE. VERTICAL CRACK FROM UNDER TRIM BELOW DRIVER SIDE WIPER FOR 3" THEN TEE'D AND WENT FROM SIDE TO SIDE HORIZONTALLY. CONTACTED DEALER BY PHONE - AGAIN TOTAL LACK OF INTEREST. BOTH EVENTS SHOWED PINHEAD SIZED PIT JUST BELOW WIPER. JB
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED TWICE, DRIVER DROVE TO THE DEALER ON THE LAST INCIDENT, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DETERMINED AT THIS TIME. *AK
2004 HONDA ELEMENT. WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR LESS THAN 1 YEAR AND ALREADY THERE ARE 2 IMPACT CRACKS AND ONE IN-EXPLICABLE CRACK WHICH COMES FROM THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND CURVES UP ABOUT 12 INCHES. DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THERE IS AN IMPACT ON THE CRACK RUNNING FROM LOWER PASSENGER SIDE (SAID THAT RAN A RAZOR OVER CRACK WHICH TELLS THEM THERE IS AN IMPACT). AM WRITING A LETTER TO HONDA AND COPYING NHTSA.*AK
THE CONSUMER NOTICED OIL RUNNING OUT OF HER VEHICLE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE CONSUMERS SON INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE OIL PLUG WAS MISSING. THE CONSUMER INFORMED THE DEALER AND WAITED ON THE TOW TRUCK TO TRANSPORT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. *JB
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. THE CAUSE OF WHY THIS HAPPENED IS UNDETERMINED.*AK
HONDA ELEMENT 2004 WINDSHIELD CRACKED. CHECKED OUT HONDAELEMENTSCRACK.COM TO FIND OTHERS WITH SAME PROBLEM. CLAIMED WAS FIXED ON THE 2004, BUT 3 OTHER CARS IN THE SERVICE BAY WITH SIMILAR CRACKS WHILE AWAITING MINE TO BE SERVICED. ALL 2004 ELEMENTS. THEY CLAIMED INDICATION OF IMPACT, BUT HAPPENED WHILE GARAGED. APPEARED PERFECTLY CONSISTENT WITH STRESS FRACTURE TSB FROM 2003. THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR 1/2 AND I WAS QUOTED 250 AT THE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT. WHEN THEY REALIZED HONDA AGREED TO PAY 1/2, THEY INSISTED NOW WE MUST USE THE HONDA WINDSHIELD TO RAISE THE PRICE TO 500 TO DROP IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL 250. WHAT A JOKE. ALTHOUGH THEY INSISTED THEY MUST USE HONDA WINDSHIELDS FOR SAFETY REASONS, THEY COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY NOT A SINGLE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN THE COUNTRY WILL DELIVER THE LABOR. ITS SUBBED OUT TO GOD ONLY KNOWS WHO AND I'M SURE LIABILITY FOR FUTURE FAILURES OR INJURY DURING AN ACCIDENT IS PASSED ALONG AS WELL. THEY DID INDICATE IF THEY CHANGED TSB TO INCLUDE 2004, I WOULD GET MY MONEY BACK, BUT I PRESUME I'D ALSO HAVE TO PAY 250 SOMEHOW ELSE TO GET THE 250 BACK AND STILL HAVE A FRACTURED WINDSHIELD. *JB
CONSUMER CONCERNED ABOUT WINDSHIELD PROBLEM ON HONDA ELEMENT 2004. *BF BASED ON COMPLAINTS BY OTHER ELEMENT OWNERS THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT THE WINDSHIELD MAY SHATTER INWARD WHILE DRIVING. A SERVICE BULLETIN HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM (SB 03-028). *NM
2004 HONDA ELEMENT WITH CRACKED WINDSHIELD........NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD, JUST STARTED TO CRACK. *JB
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO KNOWN REASON. THE DEALER REPLACED IT ON THE FIRST OCCASION. NOW IT HAS CRACK AGAIN. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. THIS CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD TWICE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT BOTH CRACKS WHERE IN HER LINE OF VISION. *TC
THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE WIPER WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY. I HEARD NO IMPACT. THE DEALER SAID ROCK HIT IT. *JB
COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO IN GEAR. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND THEN RESTARTED IT.STILL COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO INTO GEAR. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR WORKED FINE.
CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. *AK
I NEVER HEARD ANYTHING ACTUALLY HIT MY WINDSHIELD. I DID HEAR THE CRACK, WHICH BEGINS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PASSENGER SIDE UNDER THE WIPER. THE CRACK MOVES UPWARDS ABOUT 4 INCHES AND OVER TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE ANOTHER 5-6 INCHES. I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE TRYING TO HAVE IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH ELEMENTS.*AK
WINDSHIELD CRACKED BELOW DRIVER'S SIDE WIPER WITH NO IMPACT NOTED.*AK
HONDA ELEMENT WINDSHIELD FAILURE-CRACK. *AK
DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD IN HONDA ELEMENT. I HAD THE HONDA ELEMENT LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AND DEVELOPED MY FIRST CHIP IN THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE NOW HAD IT FOR 3 MONTHS AND HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED ANOTHER CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. I AM NOT THE ONLY HONDA ELEMENT OWNER WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED MY OTHER CARS FOR 8 AND 11 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH THEM. I REALLY DO BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS. *AK
BOUGHT 2004 HONDA ELEMENT EX IN FEB 2004. SINCE THEN HAVE HAD 2 STONE CHIPS AND NOW HAVE A CRACK ALONG THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CAR ONLY HAS 6,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD CARS THAT HAVE LASTED 100,000 MILES WITH LESS DAMAGE.*AK
I WAS DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY WITH NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME, HEARD A POP AND A 5" CRACK APPEARED ON MY WINDSHIELD(DRIVERS SIDE). THE CRACK HAS GROWN AN ADDITIONAL 3-4 INCHES IN THE PAST WEEK. THERE IS "NO EVIDENCE" OF ROAD OR ROCK DEBRIS HAVING HIT IT. *JB THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED WARRANTY COVERAGE ALTHOUGH A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. *NM *TC
WITH VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND WITH ENGINE RUNNING, THE CAR WILL ROLL BACKWARD DOWN HILL. MY DRIVEWAY HAS A SMALL INCLINE - VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARD WHILE IN GEAR (DRIVE) WITH ENGINE RUNNING. 2004 HONDA ELEMENT EX.
THE OTHER DAY I WAS LEAVING FROM WORK, AND UPON ENTERING MY HONDA ELEMENT I NOTICED A 4"-6" CRACK ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD, STRETCHING FROM JUST BELOW THE WIPER BLADE TO APPROXIMATELY 4" UP THE PILLAR. UPON NOTICING THIS I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE ELEMENT. THE SERVICE MANAGER CAME OUT AND DID THE "PEN TEST" AND THE "PEN TEST FOUND A SMALL PIT ALONG THE CRACK." THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS PIT WAS CAUSED FROM POSSIBLY A ROCK THAT HIT THE WINDSHIELD JUST ON THE EDGE OF THE WEATHER STRIPING. WITH THIS ANSWER SEEMING A LITTLE STRANGE TO ME I DECIDED TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. EVEN MY COWORKER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT HE DIDN'T THINK TWICE ABOUT THE HONDA ELEMENT, TRUSTING THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS CORRECT HE TURNED IT INTO HIS INSURANCE. I ALSO CAME ACROSS A CLASS ACTION SUIT THAT WAS FILED AUGUST. 04, 2004 AGAINST HONDA SITTING THE SAME PROBLEMS. ON TOP OF THIS FINDING I ALSO NOTICED THAT MAY 6TH, 2003 (ONLY SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE ELEMENT WAS ON THE MARKET FOR THE PUBLIC) HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN SITTING THE SAME PROBLEM IN ONLY A SELECT FEW OF THE ELEMENTS. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD BE BACKING THERE PRODUCT WHETHER IT BE A DESIGN FLAW, WEAK GLASS, OR A ROCK THAT DAMAGED MY WINDSHIELD DUE TO UN UNSEEN AMOUNT OF STRESS. *AK
CRACKED WINDSHIELD. NO APPARENT IMPACT OCCURED.
CRACKED WINDSHIELD
FIRST DAY OF OUR VACATION, WE MADE OUR FIRST STOP FOR GAS. I WENT IN TO BATHROOM WHILE MY HUSBAND FILED TANK. WHEN WE GOT BACK IN CAR, WE NOTICED 5" CRACK COMING UP FROM UNDER TRIM STRIP,LEFT OF CENTER NEAR WIPER ATTACHMENT. NOTHING HAD IMPACTED WINDSHIELD DURING 2HR DRIVE FROM HOME TO THIS POINT. THE CAR WAS PARKED UNDER A CANAPY & MY HUSBAND OR I WERE WITH CAR THE ENTIRE TIME IT WAS AT THE STATION. DURING THE REST OF OUR 5,000 MILE TRIP, THE CRACK SPREAD SLOWLY. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WE PURCHASED IT FROM. THEY SAY IT WAS CAUSED BY IMPACT OF ROCK OR BUG. WE SEARCHED INTERNET & FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA SENT OUT IN 2003 FOR ON HOW TO FIX WINDSHIELDS IN 03 MODELS AS THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS W/STRESS CRACKS IN SAME PLACE OURS CRACKED. WE INFORMED OUR DEALER OF THIS-STILL NO WORD ON REPAIR/REPACEMENT OF OURS.
DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND AGAIN MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THIS WILL BE MY FOURTH WINDSHIELD IN 12K MILES. OBVIOUS A DESIGN FLAW SINCE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND DURING THAT TIME ONLY ONE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. HONDA STATES THAT THE WINDSHIELD IS UPRIGHT AND CANNOT DEFLECT ROAD HAZZARD LIKE A CAR CAN I GUES I NEED TO REPLACE A WINDSHIELD EVERY 3K MILES OR NOT DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAYS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HONDA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPSIBILTY FOR THIER DESIGN FLAW.*AK
I PURCHASED MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT IN LATE AUGUST. SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE ELEMENT, I HAVE NOT HAD MY VEHICLE AVAILABLE TO ME FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS AT A TIME DUE TO A LINGERING OIL LEAK. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FIVE TIMES, TO DATE, (FOR THE OIL LEAK) AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A LOOSE FILTER. I SPOKE DIRECTLY WITH THE MECHANIC. HE ADVISED THAT THE OIL POURED OUT FROM THE FILTER UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, BUT AFTER HE TIGHTENED IT, IT STOPPED. TIME NUMBER TWO, THE DEALER REPLACED THE OIL PAN, STATING THAT THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE PROBLEM. TIME NUMBER THREE, A DYE WAS PLACED IN THE OIL TO TRACK ITS BEGINNINGS. TIME NUMBER FOUR, THE DEALER HAD A HIGHER-RANKING INSPECTOR FROM HONDA VIEW THE LEAKING DYE, AND IT WAS DEEMED TO BE A "PRESSURE VALVE" PROBLEM OF SOME SORT. DAYS AGO, THE OIL PUDDLES BELOW MY VEHICLE BEGAN AGAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR FOUR DAYS ONLY TO LEARN THAT THEY CANNOT LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK; SO I AM TO PICK MY ELEMENT UP FROM THE DEALER TOMORROW WITH NO REPAIR. WILL A PROBLEM OF THIS SORT MEET THE CRITERIA OF THE LEMON LAW? I HAVE NOT LOST FAITH IN HONDA, BUT I'M THINKING THAT MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH A SIMPLE BUT RELIABLE CIVIC.*AK
MAJOR (DEADLY) FLAW IN 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE DESIGN FLAW THAT WAS DISCOVERED WHILE SITTING INSIDE THE VEHICLE ON THE DAY OF PURCHASING MAY RESULT IN THE ENTRAPMENT OF OCCUPANTS. *JB
WINDSHIELD DAMAGE. HONDA CASE NUMBER #N012004092702375 (COMPLAIN FILED 9/12/04). DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY WINDSHIELD GOT A DING BOTTOM LEFT THEN IMMEDIATELY THE GLASS CRACKED ABOUT 12 INCHES. HONDA 2004 ELEMENT WITH LESS THAN 3,700 MILES. *AK
CRACK IN WINDSHIELD BEGINS UNDER DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER GROWS UPWARD AND THE FLARES OFF IN DIRECTION OF PASSENGER WIPER. NO IMPACT, CRACK APPEARS WHILE CAR IS PARKED. CAR 3 WEEKS OLD WITH 1100 MILES. AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT, WINDSHIELD REPLACED BUT SAID IT WOULD BE A ONE TIME ONLY REPLACEMMENT BASIS AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE.
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE'S STEERING LOCKED. THE VEHICLE'S TIRE VALVE WAS FAULTY AND RESULTED IN A FLAT TIRE. *NM WHEN THE STEERING LOCKED FOR THE SECOND TIME, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY MALFUNCTION. *JB
MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT (SUV) BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE UNDER OPERATION. THIS VEHICLE HAD LESS THAN 10,000 MILES OF USE. ON THE DATE MENTIONED AT ABOUT 1450 HOURS I AND MY WIFE WERE OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE WHICH HAD BEEN IN USE FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES. WHEN A CLOUD OF SMOKE BEGAN TO EMINATE FROM THE LOWER ENGING COMPARTMENT. UPON EXAMINATION, A FIRE WAS DISCOVERED IN THE LOWER PORTION OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEAR THE FIRE WALL. POLICE AND FIRE UNITS WERE SUMMONED. THEY RESPONDED, BUT NOT BEFORE THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN CONSUMED BY FLAMES. I HAVE READ TODAY THAT THIS APPEARS TO BE A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH HONDA SUV'S. I WAS NOT GIVEN NOTICE OF THIS CONDITION AND I AM ADVISING YOU THAT THIS PROCLIVITY TO BURN, IN CONJUNCTION WITH REAR DOORS THAT CANNOT EASILY OPEN. IS A HIGHLY HAZARDOUS CONTITION. THIS WILL ULTIMATELY RESLULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. N WHY ISN'T HONDA NOTIFYING ANYONE OR RECALLING THE VEHICLES? PLEASE RESPOND.*AK
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY ELEMENT CRACKED AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. AS THERE WERE FEW CARS ON THE ROAD AND NONE IN FRONT OF ME FOR PERHAPS A 1/4 MILE, I AM CONFIDENT THAT THERE WAS NO ROAD DEBRIS OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH HIT THE WINDSHIELD. OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT 30 MINUTES I WATCHED AS THE CRACK EXPANDED AN ADDITIONAL 3 INCHES, TOTALLING ABOUT 7 INCHES. THIS IS TROUBLING SINCE THERE ARE REPORTS OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH HONDA ELEMENTS AND HONDA DENIES THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM.*AK
VERY SMALL STONE HIT THE WINDSHIELD OF MY 2003 HONDA ELEMENT, AND THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED.*AK
TODAY, I FOUND AN 8 INCH CRACK ON MY WINDSHIELD OF MY 2004 HONDA ELEMENT. I DON'T RECALL ANYTHING HITTING MY WINDSHIELD RECENTLY AND THERE IS NO STAR OR CHIPPING ON THE WINDSHIELD, INDICATING AN IMPACT. I HAVE ANOTHER CAR THAT HAD WINDSHIELD DAMAGE, BUT THAT WAS DUE TO A BOLT THAT CAME FLYING AT THE CAR. THE CRACK SEEMS TO START ON THE EDGE (UNDER THE RUBBER SEAL) ABOUT 6 INCHES ABOVE THE BOTTOM AND EXTENDS UP IN A "J" SHAPE. I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD PROBLEM I HAVE READ ABOUT. *AK
RECURRING CRACKS AND CHIPS IN WINDSHIELD OF HONDA ELEMENT... HAD WINDSHIELD REPLACED AFTER 1 WEEK OF OWNING VEHICLE... MULTI-CHIPS IN WINDSHIELD AGAIN... MANY ELEMENT OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME... THERE IS EVEN A WEBSITE CALLED ELEMENTCRACKS.COM WHERE OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEMS. *LA
PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AND THERE WAS NO ISSUE. I GOT IN THE CAR THE NEXT MORNING TO FIND A 2" CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD STARTING AT THE TOP WITH NO SIGN OF IMPACT. THERE IS A DEFECT IN BOTH THE WORKMANSHIP (DESIGN) AND MATERIAL (PRONE TO MALFUNCTION IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS) OF THE HONDA ELEMENTS AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER. THE CONDENSER IS LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR, DIRECTLY BEHIND THE CARS FRONT GRILLE. THE CONDENSER IS APPARENTLY EXTREMELY DELICATE AND PRONE TO DAMAGE FROM ROAD DEBRIS. THIS VITAL PART OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO ROAD DEBRIS. NO PROTECTION IS PROVIDED FOR THIS CRITICAL COMPONENT. THIS IS A DEFECT IN WORKMANSHIP AND DESIGN. THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER IS MADE OF MATERIAL AND CONSTRUCTED IN A MANNER THAT MAKES IT PRONE TO FAILURE WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS.*AK
