SEEMS AS IF EITHER THE BRAKE BOOSTER OR A PART OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT PROVIDING AMPLE STOPPING POWER. THE VEHICLE HAS A DIFFICULT TIME STOOPING IN A HARD BRAKING SCENARIO EITHER FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR FROM A COMPLETE STOP AT A STOP SIGN WHEN WE REALIZED A VEHICLE WAS COMING AND HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AS IT SHOULD HAVE. I HAVE HEARD OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE AND THOUGHT THERE WAS ALREADY A RECALL BUT YOUR WEBSITE SAYS OTHERWISE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 (NA) LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT. UPON RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED A CRACK IN THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO THE SUN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
VEHICLE IN MOTION TRAVELING AT APPROX 5-7 MPH. ZIP CODE 06615 WHEN 3 ABS SENSOR LIGHTS WENT ON 1. HILL DESCENT 2. ABS 3.TRACTION CONTROL. RECENT ABS SHUTTLE SWITCH REPLACED FOR SAME REPORTED SENSOR LIGHTS FAILURE. VEHICLE WAS NOT ON AN INCLINE AND AT AN INTERSECTION AND LIGHT. AFTER PASSING INTERSECTION CARS WERE ENTERING STREET FROM SIDE. TRIED TO SLOW DOWN AS CAR PULLED OUT AND COULD NOT. ANOTHER CAR PULLED OUT.. TRIED TO MOVE AROUND CAR SINCE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. UPON PUTTING MORE PRESSURE ANTI LOCK VIBRATION BEGAN AND CAR HAD SENSATION OF ' LOCKING UP ' ON A WHEEL AND FELT AS IF THE CAR WAS EITHER SLIDING OR 'NOT HAVING ANY BRAKE' CONTROL. AND STEERING SEEMED TO BE AFFECTED. HAD TO CROSS ONCOMING CAR LANE TO VEER AWAY FROM CARS PULLING INTO MY LINE AS CAR WAS NOT HANDLING PROPERLY. HAD TO GO OFF THE FAR LEFT SIDE OF ROAD ONTO SIDEWALK, GRASS OF A PRIVATE RESIDENCE LAWN AND WENT THROUGH A FENCE. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND BEGAN TO BRAKE AGAIN THE SENSATION WAS AS IF PRESSURE WAS NOT PUMPED INTO BRAKE LINE AND WAS ABLE TO THEN STOP THE CAR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ANTILOCK FAILURE. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS WEATHER RELATED ROAD CONDITIONS HOWEVER I WAS TRAVELING SLOWLY APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AND HAD TO GO THROUGH THE LIGHT BECAUSE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THE CAR HAS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. FOUR OTHER CARS WERE AVOIDED AS I LOST CONTROL FAILURE OF BRAKES. WHEEL SENSOR SPEED AND STEERING. NO ONE INJURED. VEHICLE WAS ON MAIN STREET AT LUNCH TIME WHEN THERE WAS ACTIVITY ON MAIN STREET. 3 RECALLS FOR THIS MODEL ON RECORD. 1 RECALL FOR THIS CAR WAS DRIVE SHAFT RELATED FAILURE AND VIBRATION IN ADVANCE. I EXPERIENCED THIS AND THE DRIVE SHAFT DID BRAKEDOWN ON A SMALL ROAD CAUSING CAR TO GO OUT OF CONTROL. FIREMAN 1ST RESPONDER HELPED ME TO SAFETY. DRIVESHAFT RECALL FOR 2004 MODEL WAS IN 2012. POLICE REPORT: 16-10673.
THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT FELL APART AT LOW SPEED. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY AT HIGH SPEED

I PURCHASED OUR LAND ROVER 6 MONTHS AGO I BOUGHT IT WITH 105000 MILES ON IT AND FINANCED IT THAT WAY ,ON JANUARY 17 TH MY WIFE GOT IN THE VEHICLE AND IT SHOWS 186000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE PREVIOUS OWNER FRAUDULENTLY SOLD A VEHICLE THAT HAS BIN TAMPERED WITH AND I NEED TO FIND OUT HOW TO PURSUE HIM? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE ENGINE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENGINE AND THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
COMPLETE ENGINE INVESTIGATION DONE BY DEALERSHIP AND THIRD PARTY TO INVESTIGATE TICKING NOISE. ENGINE REMOVED, REPLACED ALL BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, NEW CAMSHAFT, LIFTERS, TIMING CHAIN AND GEARS. CYCLED THROUGH OVER 5 TYPES OF OILS AND ADDITIVES. FURTHER RESEARCH INDICATES POSSIBLE MANUFACTURER ISSUE OCCURRING IN 2004 MODELS WHERE CYLINDER LINER IS ACTUALLY SLIPPING. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT LINER SLIPPING IS NOT POSSIBLE AND OTHER ISSUES WOULD BE APPARENT. HOWEVER, MULTIPLE ISSUES ARE DOCUMENTED BY OTHER OWNERS. OTHER SERVICE TEAMS INDICATE THAT ENGINE COULD FAIL BUT WAS KNOWN ISSUE BY MANUFACTURER. ALL 2004'S ARE OUT OF WARRANTY SO THIS HAS BECOME A NON-REPORTED ISSUE. *TR
EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME AT KEY POINTS, SUCH AS FRONT SUSPENSION, ENGINE BLOCK. TOLD BY THE DEALER THE BODY HAS TO COME OFF TO FIX RUST PROBLEM. THE WERE OTHER CARS IN THE SHOP SAME YEAR, SAME MODEL. WAS TOLD IF I HIT A HARD BUMP OR WHOLE IN ROAD, THE FRONT END COULD COLLAPSE. LAND ROVER IS BEING NON RESPONSIVE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE OIL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. *
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT UNLOCK MANUALLY OR WHEN USING THE KEY FOB. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000. *TR
DISCOVERY LAND ROVER DEFECT IN THE OIL PUMP, IT EXPLODED, HEARD A LOUD BANG AND IT DAMAGED ENGINE, THE CAR IS NOW JUNK AND I AM NOT BUYING ANOTHER EXPENSIVE PART FOR THIS VEHICLE. THERE ARE FORUMS ALL OVER THE INTERNET OF THIS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE. HAD TO CAREFULLY PULL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME WAS PERFORATED DUE TO RUST. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 178,000.
THIS VEHICLES HEADGASKET FAILED WHICH IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHICH WILL REQUIRE A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF THE ENGINE. A NON DEALER PRICE IS $8900.00 TO REPAIR THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENS FROM WHAT I AM TOLD AT 90K MILES PLUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS MODULATOR VALVE COVER AND BOLTS WERE REPLACED TWICE AND HAD RECENTLY FAILED A THIRD TIME. THE CONTACT'S MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V005000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE SEVERAL PLACES WHERE THE RUST HAD LEFT HOLES IN THE METAL 6 INCHES IN LENGTH. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD LIKELY NOT PASS A VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE HAD NOT SEEN A FRAME RUSTED THIS BADLY ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD. *TR
ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED AT 63,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING LOCALLY NEAR MY HOME WHEN A POPPING SOUND CAME FROM THE ENGINE. IT RESULTED IN THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF AT APPROX 30MPH. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF LED TO A LOSS OF POWER STEERING IN THE TRUCK. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING MANUALLY AND PULL THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED OTHERWISE IT MAY HAVE BEEN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT OUTCOME. THE DEALER (LAND ROVER OF PARSIPPANY) EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT ENGINE (COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE) HAD TO BE REPLACED. A NUMBER OF THEORIES WERE THROWN AROUND : LOW OIL (CHANGED EVERY 3,000), SLEEVES DROPPED (NO CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS), OR AGE (MY FAVORITE SINCE IT WAS 2004 AND I USED IT PURELY TO GO TO THE TRAIN AND ON WEEKENDS) BUT NO MATTER WHAT THE TRUCK IS TOTALLED W/O AN ENGINE. MY BIGGEST CONCERN AT THIS POINT IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS SOMETHING THAT IS KNOWN BUT NOT BEING COMMUNICATED TO OTHER OWNERS. ENGINE FAILURE W/O POWER STEERING IS SIMPLY TROUBLING AND SCARY AT THE SAME TIME. IF YOU HAVE A DISCO THAT IS OF THE SAME AGE / MILEAGE PLEASE BRING IT INTO YOUR LOCAL DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE. TO THE NHTSA, PLEASE REVIEW THIS PROBLEM W/ LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II TO SE IF IT IS PERVASIVE OR IT IS JUST ME.
AT 45 MPH HAD TO APPLY HARD BRAKING , THE TRUCK'S BRAKING SYSTEM RESPONDED POORLY CAUSING EXTRA LONG BRAKING DISTANCE. THE ABS , HILL DESCEND & TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON JUST BEFORE THE INCIDENT.
(1)INITIAL NEW POWER STEERING RACK/BOX LEAKED AND REPLACED WITH REFURBISHED STEERING BOX ON 12/15/2008, AUTO MILEAGE AT 26,916. THE NEW STEERING BOX WHICH CAME WITH THE NEW VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED SO SOON AS WELL AS AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. (2)THE REFURBISHED STEERING BOX FAILED, LEAKED AND REPLACED AGAIN ON 4/5/2010 AT MILEAGE 34,142. (3) REPLACED REFURBISHED STEERING BOX FAILED, LEAKED AND REPLACED AGAIN ON 6/25/2010, MILEAGE 35,576. (4) AFTER A WEEK OF STEERING BOX LEAKAGE, FINALLY TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR SERVICE ON 10/29/2010, MILEAGE 37,605. REPLACED WITH A NEW (NOT REFURBISHED) STEERING BOX THIS TIME ON 11/15/2010. I HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING BOX 4 TIMES TOTAL TO DATE WITH LOW VEHICLE TOTAL MILEAGE OF 37,900. FOR SERVICE, I DRIVE 100 MILES EACH WAY AND WAIT FOR THE REPAIR TO BE DONE. THAT TAKES ALL DAY. I AM WAITING FOR THE NEW STEERING BOX TO FAIL AGAIN ANY TIME SOON.
2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY HSE. CONSUMER EXPRESSES DISCONTENT REGARDING WARRANTY AND NEEDED REPAIRS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN. THE WARRANTY COMPANY REFUSED TO AUTHORIZED THE REPLACEMENT OF A DEFECTIVE PUMP WITH NEW LAND ROVER REPLACEMENT PARTS. INSTEAD, THEY AUTHORIZED THE REPAIR FOR USED PARTS. AS A RESULT, THE SHOP WAITED WEEKS UNTIL THE PARTS WERE LOCATED. THE FIRST USED STEERING PUMP THAT WAS INSTALLED MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STEERED. A SECOND USED PUMP HAD TO BE LOCATED AND INSTALLED. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS WITHOUT HIS VEHICLE FOR TWO MONTHS. SHORTLY AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE SECOND USED REPLACEMENT WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE REAR PASSENGER MIDDLE SEAT BACK REST HOOK FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND STATED THAT THE HOOK ASSEMBLY COULD NOT BE REPAIRED; THEREFORE, THE ENTIRE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER FILED REPORT 7451000 AND STATED THAT THEY ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY; THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 81,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL TICKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND VARIOUS REPAIRS WERE DONE BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TICKING NOISE WAS THE SLEEVE ON THE NUMBER TWO CYLINDER SLIPPING AND WOULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SEIZE UP. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH PARTIAL REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,250.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD BEFORE INDEPENDENTLY STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 105,000.
OIL PUMP FAILED ON 2004 LANDROVER DISCOVERY AT 66,000 MILES. SECOND OIL PUMP FAILED AT 86,000. *TR
FAILURE OF ANTILOCK SERVICE BRAKES. DEFECT FIRST IDENTIFIED IN MARCH 2005, WHEN HDC,ABS,TC AND RED BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE TAKEN TO LAND ROVER OF WOOD BRIDGE WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A LOOSE CONNECTOR. THESE LIGHTS CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, BUT WENT OUT ON THEIR OWN USUALLY. IN LATE 2008 THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON. CAR TAKEN BACK TO LR IN DEC. 17, 2008 WITH 38805 MILES. FAILURE OF THE ABS MODULATOR WAS DIAGNOSED, AND WARRANTY COVERAGE WAS DENIED, DESPITE WHAT WAS A FAILURE TO DIAGNOSE AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM IN 2005. REPAIR WAS TO BE $3000 PLUS LABOR. I SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS THE MY VIN NUMBER FALLS WITHIN THE RANGE. HOWEVER LR REFUSES TO COVER THIS REPAIR. I HAVE MADE 2 ATTEMPTS WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE TO HAVE LR REPAIR THIS DEFECT UNDER WARRANTY COVERAGE WITHOUT SUCCESS. I HAVE ALSO NOTED THAT THERE ARE OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND LR CONTINUES TO AVOID THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE SAFE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ACCELERATING OVER A CURB AND THEN FLIPPED OVER. THE CONTACT DID NOT REPORT ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 37,000.
FAILURE OF ABS SYSTEM WHILE DRIVING. 3-4 TIMES PER WEEK WHILE CITY DRIVING THE ABS/HILL DESCENT/TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS AND CHIMES COME ON. THE SYSTEM TYPICALLY RESETS AFTER STOPPING AND RE-STARTING THE VEHICLE (SOMETIMES REQUIRES NEUTRAL START TO RESET). THIS IS SIMILAR TO A FAILURE I HAD IN A 1999 MODEL THAT REQUIRED OVER $3,000 IN REPAIRS TO REPLACE A FAILED ABS PUMP. LAND ROVER INSISTS THAT THERE IS NO FAULT CODE LEFT ON THE OBC AFTER THESE EVENTS, BUT ALL INDICATIONS POINT TO A SYSTEMIC AND ON-GOING PROBLEM WITH THE SERIES OF ABS PUMPS USED OVER THE YEARS. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN IMPORTANT SAFETY SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE, BUT LR SEEMS TO HAVE NO INTEREST IN ADDRESSING IT. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY, [XXX] OIL PUMP FAILURE CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE AT 59,000 MILES. LAND ROVER DEALER QUOTES PRICE OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT AT $12,850. REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM BOTH LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND FROM LOCAL DEALER DUE TO A PATTERN OF SIMILAR OIL PUMP FAILURES IN 2003 AND 2004 VEHICLES. NO RESPONSE TO DATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THERE WAS A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ENGINE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 46,842.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. IN HEAVY RAIN CONDITIONS, WATER BEGAN LEAKING ONTO THE DASHBOARD, STEERING WHEEL, MIDDLE CONSOLE, AND THE GEAR SHIFT. IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME OF THE WET CONDITIONS, MOLD BEGINS TO BUILD UP INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO A CLOGGED DRAIN. THE MECHANIC BLEW OUT THE DRAIN, BUT IT DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. DURING THE SECOND FAILURE, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW THE WATER WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE. DURING THE THIRD VISIT, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR. THE FURTHER STATED THAT THERE WAS AN AREA ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE POINT OF ENTRY FOR THE WATER. DURING THE FOURTH AND FIFTH VISITS, THE MECHANIC UNCLOGGED THE DRAIN AND STATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE LEAVES FROM THE TREES. THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS AND THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. SHE STATED THAT THERE WAS A TSB FOR THE DEFECT AND WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO RUST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,436 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
JUST GOT OFF MAJOR HIGHWAY AND CAR STARTED TO VIBRATE UNCONTROLLABLY AND MAKE A KNOCKING SOUND AND JUST STOPPED IF A LOUD NOSE THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE FELL OUT. CARS BEHIND ME SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING ME AND TWO PEOPLE STOPPED TO PUSHED MY CAR OUT OF HARMS WAY. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED AND THE NEXT DAY MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OUT. THIS JUST HAPPENED THIS ON 12/2/08 AND I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED AS OF YET DUE TO THE COSTLY EXPENSE. *TR
MY PRIVATE MECHANIC GAVE ME A COMPUTER PRINT OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ACTION ON MY 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY - "ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SOFTWARE". THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE; FIRST TIME REPAIRED BY LR & THE 2ND TIME THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT & TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL. THERE CLEARLY WAS A RECALL ISSUED BY LR. *TR
2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II WITH 44K MILES, UNDER WARRANTY, AND RECENTLY SERVICED AT DEALERSHIP, SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE, WHILE UNOCCUPIED, AND TURNED OFF, TO THE POINT OF COMPLETE DESTRUCTION OF ENGINE & FRONT END, DID NOT DESTROY INTERIOR. EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT OTHERS WERE NOT HURT, OR NOT DRIVING AT TIME OF OCCURRENCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS CUT OFF BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, HE MADE A SHARP TURN AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 52,000.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 LANDROVER DISCOVERY WITH APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE RECENTLY HAD INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF THE ABS MODULATOR ON MY VEHICLE. THE ABS MODULATOR CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, THE HILL DESCENT CONTROL AND THE TRACTION CONTROL. WHEN THE ABS MODULATOR FAILS, THOSE SYSTEMS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. WHILE TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE WILL RESET THE SYSTEM, THE ABS MODULATOR FREQUENTLY OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. THERE IS NO WARNING FOR THE FAILURE, NOR IS THERE ANY PATTERN FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER FOR THIS PROBLEM LAST WEEK AND THIS WEEK AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS FOR A REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS MODULATOR. THE ABS MODULATOR IS A $2,800.00 PART, WITH THE TOTAL COST, INCLUDING LABOR RESULTING IN A BILL FOR $3,500.00 TO REPAIR THIS SAFETY ISSUE. MY FAMILY BUDGET DOES NOT PRESENTLY ALLOW ME TO MAKE THIS REPAIR. IN DEALING THE SERVICE CENTER, I WAS INFORMED THAT LANDROVER IS AWARE OF THE FAILURE OF THE ABS MODULATOR AND HAS ISSUED AT LEAST 2 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR A LESS COSTLY REPAIR OF SAME. HOWEVER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUCCESS RATE FOR THOSE LESS COSTLY REPAIRS WAS EXCEEDINGLY LOW. IN CONDUCTING ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ON THIS TOPIC, I FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE AFFECTS ALL LANDROVER DISCOVERY'S PRODUCED FROM 1999-2004, SOME LANDROVER RANGE ROVER MODELS AND SOME OTHER LANDROVER MODELS. LANDROVER REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND REFUSES TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO MAKE THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENTS OF THEIR VEHICLES RELIABLE. IT WOULD SEEM THE NHTSA IS IDEALLY SUITED TO MAKE THIS COMPANY ADDRESS SAFETY DEFECTS IN THEIR VEHICLES. PLEASE CONTACT ME SHOULD ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BE NECESSARY. *TR
WAS STOPPED W/ BRAKE APPLIED, ACCELERATOR PEDAL ACCELERATED WITHOUT APPLYING FOOT CAUSING VEHICLE TO RACE OUT OF CONTROL AT A HIGH SPEED CRASHING INTO PROPERTY AND OTHER VEHICLES. THERE WAS NO BRAKE PRESSURE WHEN I PUMPED THE BRAKES TO GET IT TO STOP. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2004 LANDROVER DISCOVERY SE7. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES ROTORS WERE WORN OUT COMPLETELY. HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BEFORE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT COMPLAINING THAT THE BREAKS SQUEAKED EXCESSIVELY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER KNEW THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, BUT HE KEPT PUTTING HIM OFF UNTIL THE 50,000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD LIKE THE FRONT AND REAR ROTORS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. VEHICLE BEFORE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT, AND THE DEALER KEPT MAKING EXCUSES UNTIL THE WARRANTY RAN OUT. THE BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING EXCESSIVELY, BUT THEY TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT CERTAIN INTERVALS, AND THE DEALER WAITED UNTIL THE 50 THOUSAND MILE WARRANTY RAN OUT. WARRANTY WAS OVER AND WAS NOW CHARGING THE CONTACT, WHO KNEW THE BRAKES AND MOTORS SHOULD HOLD UP FOR MORE THAN 3 YEARS. FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE VEHICLE NEEDED PADS AND ROTORS FRONT AND REAR. *AK
MY DAUGHTER'S GAS PEDAL STUCK AND WOULD NOT RELEASE ON HER 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY. SHE DROVE INTO THE DITCH TO AVOID OTHER CARS. SHE HAS WITNESSES WHO ACTUALLY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM THEY WITNESSED THE EVENT. SERVICE CENTER INVESTIGATED, TOLD ME THEY HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE AND THERE WAS NO SUCCESS IN JUST DECREASING AND LUBRICATING THE OLD GAS LINKAGE ONLY TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN. THEY RECOMMENDED I REPLACE IT AND PAY FOR IT. I DID UNDER PROTEST FOR MY DAUGHTER SINCE THIS IS A "LIFE OR DEATH" SITUATION THAT SHOULD NOT BE OURS TO PAY FOR. HAD THE LINE KINKED, BENT OR BEEN DAMAGED IN ANY WAY TO CAUSE SUCH A PROBLEM, I BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ACCEPTABLE. HOWEVER TO HAVE THEM SAY THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND CAN ONLY FIX IT BY PUTTING ON NEW GAS PEDAL LINES SOUND LIKE A "HUGE" DEFECT TO ME. I WANT AN INVESTIGATION AND WE HAVE THE OLD PART. *JB
MY 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY HAS HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS-BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE BRAKES WHEN HITTING A BUMP. IT APPEARS LAND ROVER MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. PLEASE REFER TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V005000. THE VEHICLE IS A HAZARD TO ME, MY FAMILY, AND OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER AS I'M CONCERNED WITH EVERYON'ES WELL-BEING, ESPECIALLY MINE. THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE LEAKS. THERE IS WATER DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM UNDER THE DASHBOARD AND TO THE LEATHER INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAKAGE. THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED TWICE IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE LEAK. *AK
I HAD THE TAILGATE OF MY LAND ROVER DISCOVERY OPEN AS I PUT IN MY CAR SEATS. THE TAILGATE WAS OPEN ALL OF THE WAY AND IN THE LOCKED POSITION. MY DAUGHTER STOOD AT THE TAILGATE LOOKING INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR. A COMBINATION OF ME MOVING IN THE CAR AND THE WIND, THE DOOR BEGAN TO CLOSE. THE DOOR IS VERY HEAVY AND THE MOMENTUM EVEN MADE IT HEAVIER AS THE CAR WAS ON A SLIGHT DECLINE. THE DOOR DID NOT STAY IN THE LOCKED POSITION AND BEGAN TO SWIFTLY CLOSE. MY DAUGHTER'S HEAD IS RIGHT ABOVE THE CLOSING OF THE DOOR. IF THE DOOR WOULD HAVE SLAMMED, SHE WOULD HAVE HAD MASSIVE HEAD INJURY AND OR POSSIBLE WORSE, DECAPITATED. IT HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES. THE DOOR DOESN'T STAY OPEN. I HAVE BEEN HIT MYSELF AND IT HAS LEFT HUGE MARKS ON MY BODY. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS MEANT TO BE THIS WAY. I DISAGREE, ESPECIALLY AFTER TONIGHT'S INCIDENT WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. *JB
IN LESS THAN 11,000 MILES AND LESS THAN 7 MONTHS, MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM (IN ADDITION TO REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE). PURCHASED A 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 SE WITH 6 MILES ON IT. 2 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT IT A NEIGHBOR NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES LIGHTS STAYED ON CONSTANTLY SO THAT ANYONE BEHIND ME IN TRAFFIC COULD NOT TELL IF I WAS STOPPING. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR SAFETY FOR MY 10 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER SINCE MY OTHER 2 CARS HAVE OVER 200,000 MILES EACH. NOW IT IS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND I AM BACK TO DRIVING MY CARS WITH 399,951 MORE MILE THAN THE BRAND NEW LAND ROVER. *JB
IN 09-2004 PURCHASED LAND ROVER 2004 DISCOVERY, AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER AND LAND ROVER CSR THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY 2004 HAS A DOOR CHECKER AS A SAFETY DEVICE ON TAIL GATE DOOR WHICH IS SHARP AND SWINGS CLOSED. COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS SOMETHING ELSE. THERE IS NO SAFETY LATCH FOR DISCOVERY VEHICLE TAIL GATE DOORS-I OFFERED TO PAY AND NOTHING IS AVAILABLE. THEY SAID THAT IT IS ONLY REQUIRED TO STAY OPEN ON FLAT LAND WITH NO WIND. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, REDWOOD SHORES WHERE THE WHOLE TOWN IS FLAT AND THE WEATHER IS MILD THIS DOOR HAS ALMOST KILLED ME TWICE. I FEEL THIS CAR DOES NOT COMPLY WITH SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS REASON. *JB
CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL NOT DISENGAGE DUE TO BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH MALFUNCTIONING. THE PART WAS REPAIRED TWICE, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND TURNING TO THE LEFT CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR . THERE WERE NO BRAKES . VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
MY NAME IS [XXX] AND I AM WRITING TO YOU IN REGARDS TO THE SERVICE OF A VEHICLE DONE RECENTLY AT THE LAND ROVER IN ENCINO, CA. ON APPROXIMATELY MAY 17, 2004 MY VEHICLE WAS DROPPED OFF IN ORDER FOR THE TRANSMISSION BOX TO BE REPLACED. NEARLY A WEEK LATER I WAS TOLD THAT THE NEEDED PART WAS BACK ORDERED AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PICKED UP IMMEDIATELY. I THEN EXPRESSED MY CONCERN TO A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE BY THE NAME OF [XXX], THAT DUE TO THE VEHICLE LUNGING FORWARD AT TIMES AND THE POSSIBILITY OF GETTING INTO A COLLISION, THAT I PREFERRED THAT THE VEHICLE BE LEFT THERE UNTIL THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETELY. I WAS TOLD HOWEVER THAT DESPITE SUCH OCCURRENCES, THE VEHICLE COLD NOT BE LEFT THERE AND HAD TO PICKED UP. ON APPROXIMATELY JUNE 10, 2004, AFTER BEING NOTIFIED THAT THE REQUIRED PART HAD COME IN, I DROPPED OF THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE PART TO BE REPLACED. THE ODOMETER READING WAS NOTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN. HOWEVER ON JUNE 14, 2004 THE ODOMETER SHOWED AN EXCEEDED MILEAGE OF NEARLY SIXTY MILES OVER THE DOCUMENTED INVOICE. I NOTIFIED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT VIA TELEPHONE WHO ONLY STATED THAT THE ODOMETER MUST HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY DOCUMENTED AND THAT THE TECHNICIAN WHO HAD PERFORMED THE SERVICE, ONLY HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE NO MORE THAN SIX MILES. WITHIN ONE HOUR LATER, MY BROTHER WENT TO THE SERVICING DEPARTMENT AND SPOKE WITH [XXX] WHO STATED THAT SHE AS WELL AS OTHER INDIVIDUALS WERE THE ONES WHO DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR THAT EXCEEDED MILEAGE.*AK INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
MY BRAND NEW 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SE7 HAS LESS THAN A THOUSAND MILES BUT HAS ALREADY PAID 3 VISITS TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS THAT 4 WARNING LIGHTS KEEP TURNING ON AND STAYING ON WHEN THE CAR IS IN OPERATION. THESE 4 WARNING LIGHTS ARE: BRAKES, ABS, TC, AND HDC. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM PRESTIGE AUTO GROUP AT PARAMUS, NJ.
