The contact owns a 2004 Mazda Tribute. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle would accelerate unintendedly, and the brakes would fail during the unintended acceleration. The ABS and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the code reader was not able to read any codes. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the accelerator and brakes were repaired years prior and would not cover the cost for repair. The failure mileage was 189,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A NOISE LIKE THE ROOF WAS BEING RIPPED OFF. WHEN I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS FROM MY SKYLIGHT WAS GONE. APPEARS THE GLUE DETERIORATED LETTING WINDOW BECOME LOOSE AND THEREFORE BLOWING OFF. GOOD THING DIDNT HIT ANY OTHER VEHICLES.
DRIVING ONE DAY, THE CAR VEERED SUDDENLY INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. FORTUNATELY NO CARS WERE THERE. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS CRACKED AND THE CAR'S FRAME WAS RUSTED SO BADLY THE CAR COULD NOT BE JACKED UP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL THUMPING NOISE. THE CONTACT LATER NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL WAS RUSTED OUT AND THE SHOCK MOUNT WAS FRACTURED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED, THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-2341658425. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 181,000.
I OWN A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE FROM NEW. IT CURRENTLY HAVE AROUND 94000 MILES, MECHANICALLY AND COSMETICALLY MAINTAINED. JUST RECENTLY I STARTED HEARING A BANGING NOISE FROM THE PASSENGER REAR AREA. I HAVE SOME STUFF IN THE CARGO AREA ON THAT SIDE SO I FIGURED IT WAS BOUNCING AROUND. SO I REMOVED EVERYTHING AND STILL HAD THE BANGING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DISCOVERED A PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL AND SHOCK TOWER ROTTING AWAY...THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE...IT PRESENTS MUCH DANGER TO ALL OCCUPANTS AND OTHER VEHICLES OCCUPANTS!!! THIS SHOULD NEVER BE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT IT IS NOT. LOTS OF 2001 TO 2010 MAZDA TRIBUTES, FORD ESCAPES AND MERCURY MARINERS, ARE AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HAVE THE MANUFACTURER MAKE GOOD ON THIS DEFECT.
RUSTED OFF RIGHT REAR STRUT MOUNT, REAR FRAME. CASUES BRAKE LINE TO SEVERE AND BRAKES TO GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. CAR IS NON-REPARABLE AND MUST BE TOTALLED. SEEMS LIKE THIS HAS HAPPENED ALOT AND THEY ALREADY HAD A RECALL ON FOR RUST ISSUE IN FRONT OF THE CAR. ?????
"TAKATA RECALL" MY CAR IS RUSTED UNDERNEATH FROM THE GAS PUMP AND UNDER. ON JULY 11TH, 2019 . I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A STREET WHEN MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR STRUT CAME OUT FROM THE RUST. SOMETIMES AFTER PUTTING GAS IN MY CAR AND DRIVING OFF INSIDE OF MY CAR WILL START TO SMELL LIKE GAS. SINCE IT IS RUSTED UNDER AND AROUND.
RUSTED OFF RIGHT REAR STRUT MOUNT. DRIVING IN CITY, STARTED HEARING BANGING NOISE FROM RIGHT REAR.
TAKATA RECALL WE WERE ON INTERSTATE WHEN WE HEARD A THUD AND OUR VEHICLE LOST POWER ALMOST CAUSING US TO BE REAR ENDED. WE STEERED OFF FREEWAY AND WHEN IT CAME TO A STOP IT WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR EXCEPT NEUTRAL. WE HAD IT TOWED TO HOUSE. AFTER LOTS OF RESEARCH IT SEEMS IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION MODULE OR PCM.
UNDERCARRIAGE CORROSION HAS CAUSED TOTAL CORROSION TO RIGHT REAR WHEEL, WHICH AS CAUSED THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TO BREAK OFF. THE CORROSION IS NOT NORMAL AND SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT
WHEN DRIVING OR STOPPING AT RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF, BEFORE IT SHUTS OFF THE OIL LIGHT FLICKERS AND THERE'S A BURNING SMELL FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I TOOK IT TO MULTIPLE AUTO SHOPS AND HAVE GOT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS REPLACE, TRANSMISSION, MASS AIR FLOW AND A HOST OF OTHER THINGS AT A COSTLY PRICE AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT FITS. THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLE WRONG WITH THE 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE, I HAVE BEEN IN ALMOST 2 ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE FIX THIS!!
TOP OF WHEEL WELL ON BOTH SIDES IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT - THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE AND APPARENTLY HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A WHILE BUT IT IS HARD TO NOTICE SINCE IT IS BEHIND THE CLOSED DOOR THAT IT IS APPARENT AND SINCE I AM USUALLY DRIVING, I WOULD NOT HAVE NOTICED IT. I WAS HAVING MY FLEX PIPE REPLACED AND HAVE BEEN NOTICING SOME ANGING IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT, I AM ASSUMING IT IS COMING FROM THE BODY ROTT WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE A DRIVING HAZARD AT THIS POINT. I SAW THAT SOME VEHICLES IN 2004 AND PRIOR WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT APPARENTLY NOT MINE PR MADZA. APPARENTLY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN!
SUBFRAME CORRODED AND A PIECE OF IT FELL OFF COMPROMISING THE AXLE, WHEEL BEARING, AND SEIZED THE RIGHT REAR ROTER. UPON MAZDA TAKING THE TRUCK TO REPAIR THE SUBFRAME THEY NOTED THAT THE ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE HAD CORRODED RIGHT WITH THE SUBFRAME BEYOND REPAIR. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN DENIED A LOANER VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL ON SUBFRAME FOR CORROSION. I AM STILL WAITING TO SEE WHAT THE OUTCOME IS GOING TO BE. I'VE MISSED 2 DAYS OF WORK ALREADY DUE TO THIS
ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER. GAS IS NOT BEING CIRCULATED
ADDING MY TRIBUTE TO THE LIST OF REAR PASSENGER SIDE SHOCK/STRUT RUSTING THROUGH THE BODY..VERY DANGEROUS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE SUBFRAME FRACTURED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CONTACT TO MOMENTARILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REGAINED CONTROL AND BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SOME MINOR BRUISING AND SWELLING TO THE LOWER PORTION OF THE BODY, BUT DID NOT RECALL HOW THEY OCCURRED. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE SCENE AND RETRIEVED BY AN EYEWITNESS. THE CONTACT LATER VERIFIED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS FRACTRURED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME VERY SLOWLY. THE LOCAL DEALER (OAK LAWN MAZDA, 6750 95TH ST, OAK LAWN, IL, 60453) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN VERY SLOWLY TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME HAD FRACTURED. A REMEDY WAS NOT PROVIDED DUE TO THE DEALER AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR COST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS REMEDIED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V174000 (STRUCTURE) ON JULY 11, 2014, AND THE CROSS BRACE (BRACKET) WAS REINFORCED AT THAT TIME. THE REMEDY FAILED TO RECTIFY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 165,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO DEALER CJ WILSON NOT REPLACING THE SUB-FRAME AND ONLY REINFORCING IT WITH A BRACKET. UPDATED 9/13/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PARKED THE VEHICLE IN A NEARBY PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SHOCK MOUNT HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,826. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
RIGHT REAR WHEEL RUSTED OUT, REAR STRUT COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED. DEALER WONT REPAIR.
MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND THIS PAST WEEK WHILE LEAVING A LOCAL MALL THERE SEEMED TO BE MORE ROAD NOISE THAN USUAL COMING FROM THE REAR. A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL REVEALED THAT THE TOP OF THE STRUT, ALONG WITH A PORTION OF THE METAL MOUNT WAS BROKEN AWAY FROM THE BODY. THE MOUNT HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY FROM THE WHEEL WELL EXPOSING THE INTERIOR OF THE CARGO AREA. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS DONE EITHER IN TOWN OR HIGHWAY. IT IS VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT MAZDA (AND FORD) HAS FAILED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ITS POOR ENGINEERING. I HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE A FATALITY OR INJURY FOR EITHER THE MANUFACTURER OR THE GOVERNMENT TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.
MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE (JUST LIKE A FORD ESCAPE) HAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT ON THE PASSENGER BACK WHEEL WELL.MY HUSBAND WAS DOING ABOUT 20 MPH AND HEARD THE LOUD BANG! THE SHOCK MOUNTING IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY AND BANGS AGAINST THE CAR AND PROVIDES NO STABILIZING CONTROL. I FOUND A BUNCH OF COMPLAINTS AFTER I GOOGLED IT - ALL RIGHT REAR! THE FRONT WAS RECALLED BUT WHY NOT REAR? OUR MECHANIC SAID IT WAS BASICALLY TOTALED. AND GOOD LUCK TRYING TO FIND SOMEONE TO FIX IT! IT CAN NOT BE DRIVEN AT ALL! CANT SELL IT OR TRADE IT IN! AND WE CANT FIND ANYONE TO TOUCH IT! MAZDA'S RESPONSE WAS THEY CAN HOOK US UP WITH A SALESMAN TO PURCHASE ANOTHER MAZDA. REALLY?????????????
THE RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER BROKE AWAY FROM THE BODY ,CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO JERK HARD RIGHT ,AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MILES PER HOUR,THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, I CROSSED INTO THE MIDDLE LANE CUTTING OFF THE AUTO IN THAT LANE . HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE DRIVING SKILLS OFF THE OTHER DRIVER AND MYSELF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. THE SHOCK THEN TORE THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE UP CAUSING A FLAT. WHEN I CALLED MAZDA THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAD NO PLANS TO RECALL THE VEHICLE FOR THIS MOST COMMON PROBLEM.THIS VEHICLE HAS A RECALL FOR RUST ON THE FRONT FRAME MOUNT BUT NOT ON THE RUST PROBLEMS IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLES. I FEEL THEY USED INFERIOR METAL IN THE ENTIRE AUTOMOBILE AND SHOULD REPAIR THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V174000 (STRUCTURE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,165.
2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE, APPROX. 101,000 MILES. COMPLETE FAILURE/RUST-THROUGH OF REAR, PASSENGER-SIDE WHEEL WELL CAUSING SEPARATION OF SHOCK/STRUT FROM THE FRAME. AS INDICATED IN THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ, EXPERIENCED LOUD CLUNK AND SWAYING OF THE VEHICLE, BROUGHT TO OUR LONG-TIME MECHANIC WHO INDICATED HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT AND BASED ON AGE/CONDITION THERE IS NO WAY THIS SHOULD HAVE OCCURRED. BROUGHT VEHICLE IN TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP AFTER SPEAKING TO MAZDA CUSTOMER CARE (REP INDICATED THAT RECALL FOR SUB-FRAME CORROSION SHOULD ADDRESS THIS) ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED BUT CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE CORROSION AND SHOCK SEPARATION. WHEN I CALLED MAZDA BACK AND ASKED HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO ISSUE A RECALL ON A KNOWN ISSUE FOR RUST BUT ONLY ADDRESS ONE CONTACT POINT ON THE FRAME AS, CLEARLY, THE ENTIRE FRAME IS MADE/COATED WITH THE SAME MATERIALS, WAS ADVISED BASICALLY NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND IT IS POSSIBLE A FUTURE RECALL COULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND AS A CURRENT OWNER OF A 2014 MAZDA 6 (AND PAST OWNERS OF 6 OTHER MAZDA'S) I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS THIS IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. AS EVIDENCED BY THIS WEBSITE AND MULTIPLE OTHERS, THIS ISSUE AFFECTS 2001-2006 MAZDA TRIBUTES (& FORD ESCAPES) AND WAS ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGED TO BE A DEFECT IN THE MATERIALS USED AS EVIDENCED IN RECALL# 14V-174. EXCESSIVE CORROSION IS NOT LIMITED TO A SINGLE ATTACHMENT POINT ON THE FRAME, TO EVEN IMPLY THAT IT WOULD BE IS AVOIDANCE OF LIABILITY BY THE MANUFACTURER(S) AT BEST, CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE IS A BETTER DESCRIPTOR. IT IS THE ENTIRE FRAME THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED, THE COMPLAINTS SEEM TO BE INCREASING SO IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS-THE ORIGINAL RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED ASAP
RIGHT REAR SHOCK MOUNT HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THIS MAY RESULT IN SUSPENSION FAILURE AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. PHOTOS OF EXTENSIVE RUST CONDITION WIDELY AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA ZH98 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BROKEN ARM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DRIVER'S RESIDENCE. THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMALLY LOUD NOISE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V174000 (STRUCTURE) AND THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO SUPPLY THE REMEDY PARTS FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS DUE TO RECEIVE AN INSPECTION AND MAY NOT PASS DUE TO EXTENSIVE PREMATURE RUST AND CORROSION THAT PROGRESSED FOR MONTHS BEFORE NOTIFICATION OF THE MANUFACTURERS RECALL. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME TO PROVIDE THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN OF WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED NUMEROUS TIMES. IN ORDER TO REDUCE SPEED, THE GEAR LEVER WAS SHIFTED INTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THE ENGINE REVVED, BUT NOT RAPIDLY. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. IN 2015, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V583000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE REMEDY WAS INSUFFICIENT AND FAILED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,000.
A VERY LOAD BANGING SOUND IS COMING FROM MY RIGHT PASSENGER WHEEL WELL AREA. IT APPEARS THE SHOCK-ABSORBER MOUNTING LOCATION IS RUSTED AWAY AND BREAKING OFF. I CAN SEE INSIDE MY CAR THROUGH THE SPEAKER GRILL NOW. FIRST OCCURED WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND DRIVING OVER A ROAD WITH SMALL POTHOLES. THE REST OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR SEEMS OK.
MAZDA RECALL # 1904D. MAZDA HAS A RECALL FOR UNITS BUILT FROM APRIL 17, 200 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 11, 2002. MY UNIT WAS BUILT IN 2004 BUT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS THE VEHICLES IN THIS RECALL. NO ONE AT MAZDA CAN ( OR WON'T ) TELL ME THE REASON THAT UNITS IN LATER DATES SUCH AS MINE ARE NOT IN THIS RECALL EVEN THO IT DOES WHAT THE RECALL WAS SUPPOSE TO FIX AND WILL NOT FIX MINE WITH-OUT A CHARGE. THE UNIT DIE WHEN COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN OR SLOWING DOWN. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY TO MY DAUGHTER WHO DRIVES THIS CAR TO THE POINT WHERE SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. SHE HAS BEEN ALMOST REAR-ENDED REPEATED TIMES. HERE IS WHAT THE RECALL SAYS. RECALL SUMMARY: ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L V6 DURATEC ENGINES , DURING DECELERATION, THE ENGINE CAN STALL. HAZARD: SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE POWER CONTROL MODULE (PCM) WITH THE APPROPRIATE CALIBRATION. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500. ADDITIONAL INFO: MAZDA RECALL NO. 1904D.ALSO, CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE PASSENGER REAR WHEEL WELL AND SHOCK STRUT MOUNT, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL HAS EXCESSIVE CORROSION THROUGH THE FRAME OF MY VEHICLE. THE CORROSION HAS SPLIT MY FRAME IN HALF AND LEFT WHOLES SURROUNDING THE SPLIT. MY SHOCK TOWER IS EXPOSED AND CORRODED MAKING IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE IS SPLITTING IN THE SAME EXACT PLACE.THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND OBVIOUS DEFECT. DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN A DIRT ROAD AT 35 MPH (APPROX.) A LOUD SNAP AND DUST ROLLING THING THROUGH THE REAR SPEAKER MOUNTED ON THE WHEEL WELL. I THEN PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE CAR AND FOUND THAT IT WAS ALL RUSTED OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUBFRAME CORROSION ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. ALSO, THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR AND THE CLEANING OF THE THROTTLE BODY. *JB
IN RESEARCHING THE NHTSA WEBSITE IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE HAS 91,000 MILES. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE UPPER SHOCK MOUNT HAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE CHASSIS DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THIS IS THE ONLY AREA ON THIS VEHICLE WHERE SUCH EXTENSIVE CORROSION EXISTS. NUMEROUS SOURCES HAVE STATED THAT THE DAMAGE TO THIS VEHICLE IS IRREPARABLE, AND THAT FURTHER USE OF THIS VEHICLE WOULD BE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS DEFECT INDICATE THAT IT IS TIME FOR THIS MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN DEFECT TO BE INVESTIGATED. #10669545
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY AT 40 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SNAPPING SOUND. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO STOP AND THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE SUB FRAME, CV JOINT, AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A VIBRATING MOTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE HAD AN ABNORMAL LOUD SOUND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SHOCK SUPPORT IN THE WHEEL WELL HAD ROTTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE (JUST LIKE A FORD ESCAPE) HAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT ON THE PASSENGER BACK WHEEL WELL. THE SUSPENSION IS AFFECTED AS WELL AS THE SHOCK MOUNTING IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY AND BANGS AGAINST THE CAR AND PROVIDES NO STABILIZING CONTROL. THE REPAIRS ARE GOING TO BE VERY COSTLY AND I FOUND NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE SAME RUST OUT AND RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION FAILURE ON MAZDA TRIBUTES AND FORD ESCAPE IN THE 2001-2005 MODEL YEARS. MAZDA AND FORD CONDUCTED A RECALL ON TRIBUTES AND ESCAPES DUE TO RUST OUT OF RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION. THE SAME IS IMMEDIATELY NEEDED ON THE RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION. THE LEFT REAR SUSPENSION APPEARS FINE AND DOES NOT SHOW ANY OF THE SAME RUST PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD ABNORMAL SOUND. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL AND THE SHOCK TOWER WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,631. MA 10/25/15
RIGHT REAR SHOCK HAS BROKEN THROUGH WHEEL PANEL AND CAN BE SEEN FROM THE TRUNK AREA. LEFT REAR SIDE HAS STRESS FRACTURES AND I ASSUME WILL ALSO BREAK THROUGH EVENTUALLY. TOOK CAR TO BODY SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WHEEL PANEL HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND THAT IT WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX BECAUSE TO PROPERLY FIX THE CAR ONE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHEEL PANEL AND ANY OTHER METAL AREA ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR THAT IS RUSTED. IS NHTSA WILLING TO TAKE THE CAR TO TEST THE UNDERCOATING AND METAL TO DETERMINE IF THEY MEET PROPER STANDARDS? I WENT ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN THAT THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER MADZA TRIBUTES AND EVEN FORD ESCAPES. CAN YOU HELP?
I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND NOT GO FOWARD AND HESITATED TO GO BACKWARDS. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SHOP. THE SHOP MACHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BUILT WITHOUT A PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE,AND THAT IS WHAT CAUSE IT TO MALFUNCTION. AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY YOU DON'T HAVE TRANSMISSION IN DROPDOWN BOX OF AFFECTED PARTS. MA 10/5 UPDATED 11/16/2017*CN
I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP BEHIND ANOTHER CAR AT A RED LIGHT AND MY CAR SLOWED DOWN BUT DID NOT FULLY STOP. I BARELY BUMPED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT PROBABLY LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR BUT MY AIR BAGS WENT OFF. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO MY CAR OTHER THAN THE AIR BAGS EXPLODING AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY WANTS TO TOTAL MY CAR BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAGS EXPLODING. I HAVE SECOND DEGREE BURNS AND A CUT FROM THE AIR BAG.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTED FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HOUSE PANEL AND SHOCK WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR FURTHER INSPECTION, WHOM ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL HOUSE PANEL AND SHOCK WERE SEVERELY CORRODED DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HOUSE PANEL AND SHOCK AND THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL HOUSE PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

WHILE ON HIGHWAY, LOUD THUMP. UPON INSPECTION, PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL IS RUSTED THROUGH. DAMAGE IS VERY SIGNIFICANT. SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNT IS SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. DRIVER SIDE DOES NOT SHOW DAMAGE, AT LEAST FROM OUTSIDE INSPECTION. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HAVE NOT CALLED THE DEALER YET, BUT MESSAGES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM INDICATE THAT MAZDA IS NOT HONORING THE DESIGN FLAW AS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. NO WORD YET UPON WHAT IT WILL COST TO FIX. SOUNDS LIKE A RECALL NEEDS SET UP. *TR
EXTENSIVE RUST IN THE BACK PASSENGER WHEEL WELL WHICH HAS CAUSED THE SUSPENSION TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE BODY OF THE CAR. FIRST NOTICED A LOUD THUMPING WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS A MONTH AGO AND IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT IT IS PUTTING ME, MY FAMILY, AND OTHERS AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT AND FORCING ME TO BUY ANOTHER CAR. THERE IS ALREADY AN ID # ASSOCIATED WITH THIS COMPLAINT (#10669545) AND MANY COMPLAINTS SUBMITTED. THIS ISSUE NEEDS BE INVESTIGATED AS A RECALL. PLEASE RESPOND TO ME WITH INFORMATION ON THE INVESTIGATIONS ON THIS MATTER AND IF I CAN EXPECT ANY HELP FOR REPAIR ON THIS PROBLEM TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. *TR
ON JULY 15 I WAS DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED AND MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. IT RANDOMLY FLASHES AND SOMETIMES STAYS ON FOR 2 TO 3 DAYS. IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED DUE TO THE COST OF REPAIRING IT. IF THE AIR BAG EXPLODES WHILE I AM DRIVING THIS COULD BE FATAL TO MYSELF, MY 1 YEAR OLD SON AND MY 12 YEAR OLD SON. EVERY MAZDA SUV / TRUCK FROM 2004 HAS A RECALL EXCEPT MINE. THE RECALL NEEDS TO EXTEND TO THE TRIBUTE BECAUSE THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT'S NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. *TR
THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE WAS JUST RECALLED AND REPAIRED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MAZDA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE ALREADY. EXCESSIVE CORROSION HAS ALSO OCCURRED ON THE FORD ESCAPE MADE FROM THE SAME LINE. MAZDA NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND CORRECT THIS BEFORE A SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITY OCCURS. *TR
MY MAZDA TRIBUTE ONLY HAS 114,000 MILES ON IT AND THE SHOCK MOUNT HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF THE FRAME AND IS NOT IN ANY WAY SAFE TO DRIVE. HOW THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS IS A LOAD OF [XXX]. I HAVE PUT A LOT OF MONEY INTO MY TRUCK AND FOR THERE TO BE NO RECALL? WHAT A JOKE MAZDA IS. IM 25 YEARS OLD WORKING FULL TIME AND CANT AFFORD TO JUNK MY CAR AND BUY A NEW ONE. SO MAZDA PUTS ME IN THIS SITUATION AND WONT FIX IT. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER MAZDA. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

CONCERNING TAKATA/MAZDA AIRBAG RECALL, I PURCHASED MY USED 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE DX FROM SANTA FE (NM) MAZDA VOLVO DEALER OCTOBER 2006. THEN I SHIPPED IT VIA CROWLEY SHIPPING TO MY PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN ST. JOHN, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS...WHERE IT HAS BEEN CONTINUALLY IN USE FROM 2007-TO PRESENT. ST. JOHN, US VIRGIN ISLANDS IS A HIGH HUMIDITY AREA . YOUR ONLINE RECALL QUALIFYING AREA MENTIONS JUST PUERTO RICO, SO BEFORE I AM DIVERTED OR PUT OFF BY MAZDA, I WISH TO KNOW IF I ACTUALLY QUALIFY. ON TOP OF THIS, AT TIME OF PURCHASE IT WAS NOT POINTED OUT TO ME THAT THE USED CAR WAS AN OFFICIAL "LEMON LAW BUYBACK. I DID NOT SEE THE PLAQUE AFFIXED TO THE FRAME OF THE CAR UNTIL AFTER IT WAS SHIPPED HERE AND I WAS WASHING TOP TO BOTTOM TO GET SHIPPING SEA SALT OFF. I AM 70 AND LIVE ALONE, NEVER EVEN OCCURRED TO ME TO THINK OF SUCH A THING. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ALL OF THE MAJOR PARTS OF THE CAR OVER THE LAST 7 YEARS, SO NOW I AM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THE AIR BAG. *TR

WHILE LOOKING FOR A KNOCKING SOUND IN THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR FOUND THAT THE SHOCK MOUNT ASSEMBLY WAS BROKEN LOOSE FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. YOU COULD SEE THROUGH TO THE INTERIOR FABRIC, LEAVING SHOCK AND MOUNT ATTACHED TO NOTHING. SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WENT OVER A SPOT WHERE THE PAVEMENT HAD BEEN CUT BACK FOR REPAVING AND THERE WAS A LOUD, SHARP THUMP FROM THE REAR WHEEL WELL. IT WAS RAINING AND DARK SO I COULDN'T TELL WHAT HAPPENED. IT HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES BEFORE WE REACHED HOME. IN THE LIGHT OF DAY I SAW THAT THE WHEEL WELL HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND THE SHOCK IS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE BODY OF THE CAR. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO DRIVE IT UNTIL WE HAVE SEEN A MECHANIC. *TR
THIS WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT. I RECENTLY HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE RIGHT AND LEFT INNER WHEELHOUSE PANELS ON MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE INNER WHEELHOUSE PANELS WERE RUSTED THRU AND THE SHOCKS THAT WERE ATTACHED TO THOSE PANELS WERE LOOSE DUE TO CRACKS IN THE PANELS AND WERE BANGING UP AGAINST THE CAR. I DON'T CONSIDER THAT MUCH CORROSION THAT CAUSED THE PANELS TO BREAK LOOSE FROM THE CAR BODY AS NORMAL WEAR & TEAR NOR PART OF SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE WATCHED UNDER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. I HAVE KEPT CARS LONGER THAN 10 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM! IT WAS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT IN A SERIOUS AUTO ACCIDENT. PLEASE RECOMMEND A RECALL ON 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTES DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION DUE TO THE MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT IN THEIR QUALITY CONTROL AND PROCESSES. *TR

THE CONSUMER STATED BECAUSE OF THE LOUD AND RATTLING NOISE HE HEARD WHEN HE WENT OVER A BUMP, SHE DECIDED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. SHE DISCOVERED A HOLE ON THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE IN THE AREA OF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL AND SHE COULD SEE THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. PARTS OF METAL WERE MISSING AND THERE WERE CRACKS IN THE METAL AROUND THE WHEEL WELL AND THE SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNT BOX. THERE WAS ONLY ONE SMALL SECTION OF METAL HOLDING THE MOUNT BOX ONTO THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY, HER BROTHER TOOK THE PANEL OFF THE INSIDE TIGHT REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL, ONLY TO DISCOVER MORE CRACKS, ROT, CORROSION AND HOLES AROUND THE WHEEL WELL AND SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNT BOX. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO REAR CORROSION. UPDATED 11/10/14
I NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARD A KNOCKING COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE I THOUGHT IT WAS A BAD SHOCK AT FIRST SO I PULLED OVER TO CHECK IT OUT AND THE REAR SHOCK BRACKETS ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND ARE BREAKING AWAY FROM THE MAIN FRAME. I CONTACTED MAZDA ON JULY 11, 2014 AND THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL TEH CAR IS RECALLED. THEY HAVENT PROVIDED ANY OTHER INFO ON ASSITANCE WITH REPAIRS OR A RECALL. INSIDE BOTH REAR WHEEL WELLS, THE BODY IS RUSTING OUT SUBSTANTIALLY AROUND THE SHOCK TOWER BRACKET. IT IS SO BAD THAT THE SHOCK TOWER CAN BREAK LOSE AND THE CAR WILL BE A DANGER TO DRIVE. ACCELERATOR BEGAN TO STICK AS I WAS APPROACHING DOWNHILL. I COULD NOT GET IT TO STOP AND RAN A STOP SIGN. I THEN FINALLY MANAGED TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD THIS TO A LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND IT STILLS DOES THE SAME THING. THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED AN IAC VALVE AND AN INTAKE TUBE HOSE. BACK IN 2012 I HAD A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS SAME SITUATION. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS INSTRUCTED AND ALMOST EXACTLY ONE YEAR LATER I ACTUALLY STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I'VE PAID TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE WORKED ON AND THE PERFORMANCE IS NO BETTER THAN WHEN I ORIGINALLY TOOK IT IN. IN FACT, THE PERFORMANCE IS WORSE. NOT ONLY IS THIS NOT SAFE FOR ME TO BE ON THE ROAD BUT EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD AS WELL. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS SITUATION UNDER CONTROL. IT'S BEGINNING TO BECOME VERY STRESSFUL FOR ME. I'M NOT USUALLY ONE TO COMPLAIN BUT THIS NEEDS RESOLVED. I'VE DONE MY PART AND PAID A MECHANIC. ALL I EXPECT IS THE PROBLEM TO BE FIXED. I HAD RECEIVED TWO NOTICES OF RECALL ON MY MAZDA TRIBUTE FOR A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH A STUCK THROTTLE. APPROXIMATELY 4 OR 5 MONTHS AGO, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER TO COMPLETE THE RECALL. BEFORE THIS RECALL I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH A STUCK THROTTLE. ON THE ABOVE DATE, I WAS RETURING TO MY HOME ON A TURNPIKE TOLL ROAD. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH. AS I ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE TOLL TOAD, MY THROTTLE STUCK AND WOULD NOT ALLOW MY VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. THIS EXIT INVOLVED A SHARP CURVE AND A TOLL GATE AREA. I MADE MY WAY THROUGH THE GATE BY CONSTANTLY APPLYING THE BRAKE. I FINALLY EXITED THE ROAD AND ENTERED A PARKING LOT. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT A VERY HIGH RPM. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK. IT CONTINUED TO REV NEAR THE 5 AND 6 RPM LEVEL. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT SEVERAL TIMES. IT CONTINUED TO REV AND WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE, IT JUMPED AND RACED FORWARD. ON DECEMBER 24, 2013, I GOT THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER. AS I PULLED IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THE VEHICLE AGAIN STARTED TO REV UP TO 2 OR 3 RPMS. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND TAPPED ON A VALVE IN THE TOP OF THE MOTOR. THE ENGINE THEN SLOWED DOWN. AT AN EXPENSE OF $235 DOLLARS, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS THIS VALVE THAT NEEDED REPLACED AND IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL!!!!! THEN ON JANUARY 6, 2014, I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED IDLING VERY HIGH. I ATTEMPTED TO START AND STOP IT MANY TIMES WITH NO RESULTS. I FINALLY GOT IT TO MY HOUSE BY RIDING THE BRAKE AND AT TIMES PLACING IT IN NEUTRAL. IT WAS VERY ICY AT THE TIME AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE AND NEVER STOP THE HIGH REVING OF THE RPMS. BOTH OF THESE INCIDENTS WERE VERY SCARY AND OCCURRED DURING POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO REACT IN A CALM MATTER AND CONTROL THE VEHICLE! *TR
TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND HAD THEM CHECK OUT SOME NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. DEALER SAYS THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL IS VERY RUSTED (ACTUALLY RUSTED THROUGH IN SPOTS) AND NOT STABLE. NOISE IS COMING FROM AROUND THE REAR SHOCK AREA WHICH IS VERY DETERIORATED AROUND THE SHOCK MOUNT AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE SHOCK MAY NOT BE ADEQUATELY SECURED. THE SAME THING IS STARTING TO HAPPEN ON THE OTHER REAR WHEEL WELL BUT MOST OF THE DAMAGE IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE IS NO VISIBLE RUST ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE REFERRED TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP BUT THE REPAIR WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE TOO FIX. WE'VE REGULARLY SERVICED THIS VEHICLE AT THE DEALER SINCE WE BOUGHT IT NEW. I'VE CHECKED ON-LINE AND HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS TYPE OF DAMAGE OCCURRING IN MAZDA TRIBUTES AND FORD ESCAPES IN THE 2004-2005 MODEL YEARS. THE VEHICLE IS NOT BEING REPAIRED DUE TO COST. *TR
WIFE LEFT HOUSE TO RUN AN ERRAND AND RETURNED IMMEDIATELY AFTER HEARING LOUD CLANGING NOISE IN REAR OF CAR. SHE BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION SO I RODE IN THE REAR SEAT TO OBSERVE AS SHE DROVE. AFTER JUST A VERY SHORT DISTANCE I HEARD THE NOISE AND OBSERVED THAT I COULD SEE THROUGH THE REAR SPEAKER AREA TO THE OUTSIDE. SHE PARKED THE CAR AND I LOOKED FROM THE OUTSIDE INTO THE RIGHT (PASSENGER) REAR WHEEL WELL AND SAW THE ENTIRE UPPER SHOCK MOUNT WAS ROTTED OUT OFFERING NO SUPPORT WHATSOEVER TO THE SHOCK ABSORBER. THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE CAR IS VERY GOOD WITH NO OR VERY LITTLE BODY RUST. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THE CANNOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL THIS IS REPAIRED. I AM NOT A CERTIFIED MECHANIC BUT I DO RESTORE OLD CARS AS A HOBBY AND CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE OF MODERATE ABILITY IN AUTO MECHANICS. *TR

IN AUGUST OF 2012 THE VEHICLE STARTED RANDOMLY ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. SOMETIMES WHEN COMING TO A STOP IN A PARKING LOT IT WOULD SURGE AGGRESSIVELY. SOMETIMES WHEN STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION IT WOULD SUDDENLY SURGE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR RECALL IN AUGUST 2012. PART NEEDED TO BE ORDERED. DEALER DISCONNECTED CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND SAID VEHICLE WOULD BE SAFE UNTIL PART COULD BE REPLACED. PART WAS NOT INSTALLED YET BUT CABLE REMAINS DISCONNECTED. TODAY THE VEHICLE STARTING BEHAVING LIKE DESCRIBED ABOVE. BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT DECELERATE NO MATTER WHAT YOU DID. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE ENOUGH WITH THE BRAKES TO PARK IT. WHEN I WENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE TONIGHT WHERE IT WAS LEFT IT IDLES AT OVER 3000 RPM AS SOON AS YOU START IT AND IT WILL NOT IDLE DOWN NO MATTER WHAT. I TRIED PUMPING ACCELERATOR PEDDLE AND MOVING THE THROTTLE CONTROL AT THE THROTTLE CABLE UNDER THE HOOD. THE ENGINE COVER WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED AND THROTTLE COULD NOT BE REDUCED. I RECORDED VIDEO OF THE ENGINE BEHAVIOR AND THE DASHBOARD READINGS WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING. THE DEALER IS SCHEDULED TO TOW THE VEHICLE TOMORROW TO THEIR DEALERSHIP TO INSTALL THE RECALL PART. OUR CONCERN IS THAT IF DISCONNECTING THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS SUPPOSED TO ELIMINATE THE RISK, BUT IT STILL ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AT A VERY HIGH SPEED, CAN WE REALLY RELY ON THE RECALL PART TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE, 6 CYLINDER. THE ENGINE EXPLODED UPON STARTING, SPECIFICALLY THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. UPON STARTING, AN EXTREMELY LOUD EXPLOSION OCCURRED, THE HOOD WAS RAISED ABOUT AN INCH AND SMOKE AND FLAME POURED OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE SMOKED SUBSIDED AND PLASTIC PARTS WHERE SCATTERED ABOUT THE PARKING LOT. TOWED THE TRIBUTE TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BLEW UP AND IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO REPAIR WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT THE ENGINE IS NOT DAMAGED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY HAD NO CLUE WHAT CAUSED THE EXPLOSION. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE CAR WAS PARKED AND THAT MY CHILD WAS NOT NEAR THE CAR, OTHERWISE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN DEADLY INCIDENT. *TR
WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE BRAKE PEDDLE PULSATE, THE BRAKES GRIND AND VIBRATE THE CAR, AND THE CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT. NO INDICATORS LIGHTS LIGHT UP. THE PULSATING IN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS THE SAME AS ONE WOULD FEEL WHEN THE ABS ENGAGES, BUT THE GRINDING AND PULLING TO THE LEFT ARE NOT NORMAL. THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES WERE INSPECTED AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID THEY DID NOT NEED REPLACEMENT AS THEY WERE NOT WORN. I EXPLAINED THE PULSATING AND THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THEM. THEY REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS. THEY DID NOT TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME. UPON LEAVING THE GARAGE AND BRAKING, I HEARD AND FELT THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS I DESCRIBED ABOVE, ALTHOUGH NOT AS SEVERE. DUE TO THE LATE HOUR, I CONTINUED HOME. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER MY HUSBAND TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE GARAGE. THIS TIME THE TECHNICIAN DROVE IT TO SEE FOR HIMSELF. UPON HIS INSPECTION, HE FOUND SOME RUST, BUT INDICATED THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE IN WORKING ORDER. THE PULSATING OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE GRINDING NOISE, AND THE PULLING TO THE LEFT HAVE BECOME MORE PRONOUNCED WHENEVER THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IT DOES NOT MATTER THAT THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED GENTLY, THE SYMPTOMS STILL OCCUR. I REVIEWED MY RECALL INSPECTION PAPERWORK FROM 06/14.07 PERFORMED BY A MAZDA DEALERSHIP. MY PAPERWORK NOTES THE TECHNICIAN SHOULD "PERFORM 4507C RECALL. PERFORMED RECALL TO MAZDA GUIDELINES." THE PAPERWORK DOES NOT INDICATE WHETHER ANYTHING WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THE TIME. I CALLED THE MAZDA CORPORATE OFFICE AT 800-222-5500 THIS AFTERNOON AND SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE. HE INDICATED THAT IF A DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE RECALL INSPECTION AND DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AT THE TIME, THAT THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED. I ASKED IF THE RECALL ISSUES WERE NOW OCCURRING ON MY CAR, EVEN THOUGH NOTHING WAS FOUND IN 2007, WOULD MAZDA REPAIR THE EQUIPMENT. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION LOST 2ND GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT UNTIL THE ENGINE REVS WERE VERY HIGH, > 6000 RPM. MY WIFE HAD TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY SINCE SHE COULD NOT GO AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DEALER SAID TRANSMISSION WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS ONLY 10,000 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY. THEIR PRICE FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION WAS $4,130. I WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP THAT WAS MORE ECONOMICAL AND HE TOLD ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM SINCE THE BELTS AND HARDWARE (RIVETS THAT CONNECT MOUNTING BRACKET) ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE VEHICLE. HE USED THICKER BELTS FOR THE REBUILD BUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IF YOU CHECK SITES LIKE EDMUNDS.COM. THIS IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY MAZDA. *KB

MAZDA RECALL. *CW THE CONSUMER CONTACTED MAZDA ABOUT A RECALL AND WAS INFORMED THE REPAIR WAS MADE IN MARCH 2005 AND THEREFORE, THEY HAD FULL-FILLED THEIR OBLIGATION. 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE FROST BUILDS UP ON THE BRAKE PADS WHEN IT IS COLD-CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO STOP PROPERLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES AND WE HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED OUT AT 2 SEPARATE PLACES PLUS CALLED THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND WERE TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS FROST ON THE BRAKE PADS. VERY DANGEROUS! OUR COLLAGE AGE SON WAS COMING HOME FROM WORK, COMING OFF THE INTERSTATE, AND COULD NOT STOP AT THE STOP SIGN ON THE RAMP! (22 YEAR OLD 4.0 PHARMACY STUDENT). *TR
I WAS DRIVING A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN 10 DEG. F TEMPERATURES WITH THE SPEED CONTROL ON AND SET TO 70 MPH. WHEN I APPROACHED THE EXIT RAMP I PRESSED THE SPEED CONTROL OFF BUTTON BUT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I THEN TAPPED THE BRAKES WHILE GOING UP THE EXIT RAMP. STILL THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT THE STOP LIGHT AND PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4500RPM. I TURNED THE KEY COMPLETELY OFF THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. AGAIN IT REVVED UP TO 4500RPM. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED AGAIN. STILL THE ENGINE RAN UP TO 4500RPM IN NEUTRAL. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN SO I CAREFULLY PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE AND DROVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I COULD TELL BY THE SMELL THAT THE BRAKES WERE HOT. THIS TIME WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE IT REVVED UP TO ABOUT 3000 THEN SLOWLY CAME DOWN TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED. I DROVE IT THE REST OF MY TRIP WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE BUT DID NOT USE THE SPEED CONTROL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID COME ON AS A RESULT OF THIS EPISODE. *TR

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO STARTED TO HEAR A TICKING NOISE WHEN STARTING, GETTING WORSE CHECKED OIL AND WAS DOWN ABOUT 1/2 LITER TOPPED UP OIL. WENT TO A GARAGE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE TURNING AT 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER CAN REV THE ENGINE TO KEEP IT RUNNING. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE IS REVVING UP TO 3,000 RPMS. THE FAILURE IS INTERMITTENT AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE REVS UP TO 1,000 RPMS AND OTHER TIMES UP TO 3,000 RPMS. THE DEALER FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE AND DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY IN PARK WHEN SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THERE WAS NO IMPACT. DEALER AND MAZDA TOLD ME IT IS MY INSURANCE COMPANIES RESPONSIBILITY TO INVESTIGATE. AFTER SEEING THE OTHER ISSUES THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *TR
AT 47,968 MILES AND WHEN MY MAZDA TRIBUTE WAS FOUR MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS AND TO HAVE THE ROTORS RESURFACED COSTING $340. AFTER THEY HAD THE CAR UP, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH MATERIAL ON THE ROTOR TO RESURFACE AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED, COSTING $485 BEFORE A COUPON. I REQUESTED AND STILL HAVE THE PARTS THEY REPLACED AND FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM ON A CAR WITH SO LITTLE MILEAGE (AND MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). ALSO, THE CD PLAYER BROKE ONCE UNDER WARRANTY (IT FAILED TO EJECT OR PLAY CDS) AND WAS REPLACED, BUT HAS BROKEN AGAIN AFTER 18 MONTHS - SAME PROBLEM. THE CD REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE - ABOUT $500 TO EXCHANGE FOR A REBUILT UNIT AND OVER $300 TO REPAIR MINIMUM AND THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE UNIT. THE DEALER AND MAZDA COULD NOT TELL ME THE PART NUMBER OR MAKER OF THE UNIT AND A COUPLE OF DEALERS DID NOT EVEN OFFER A REPAIR OPTION, SAYING THE UNIT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED A FAILURE WITH THE SYSTEM. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER ON SIX OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME FAILURE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUES. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

VEHICLE EXHIBITED EXTENDED CRANK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. AS IT WAS NEARING 30K MILE SERVICE, WE DECIDED TO WAIT AND HAVE DEALER INSPECT AT THAT TIME. BEFORE THE CAR WENT IN FOR MAINTENANCE, IT SHUT DOWN GOING UPHILL. ALTHOUGH IT WOULD RESTART, IT RAN ROUGH AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. #3 IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED THAT THAT VISIT. THE CAR BEGAN STARTING HARD AGAIN IN LATE 2007 AND WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN - THIS VISIT, THEY REPLACED THE IDLE AIR VALVE, HOPING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT CONTINUED TO START HARD AND 2 WEEKS LATER IT RAN VERY ROUGH AGAIN ON STARTUP. THIS VISIT HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE #2 IGNITION COIL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO START HARD, WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE #4 IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED. HARD START CONTINUED, CAR BACK TO DEALER AGAIN, FUEL PUMP REPLACED. THIS BRINGS US TO TODAY - THE CAR HAS BEEN OUT OF THE SHOP FOR 6 DAYS AND IS STARTING WORSE THAN IT HAD BEEN PRIOR TO THE LAST VISIT. NOTE: WARRANTY RAN OUT ON THE VEHICLE ON 4/2 AND THE DEALER AND MAZDA WOULD LIKE ME TO START PAYING FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. ON TOP OF THAT, THE FRUSTRATION OF HAVING TO GO BACK AND FORTH FROM THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN AWFUL. ALSO, NOTE: THE HARD START WAS EASIEST TO DUPLICATE AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN AND WARMED UP, RESTED OFF FOR ~ 1 HOUR, THEN RESTARTED (LIKE WHEN YOU GOT OT THE GROCERY STORE). *TR
MY CAR IS NOT EVEN 4 YEARS OLD YET AND THE AIRBAGS DO NOT WORK. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THAT, HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT UNLESS THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS MATTER. AIRBAGS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SAFE AND THEY ARE REQUIRED. *TR
MY WIFE PURCHASED A USED 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE ACCELERATOR CABLE FAILED AND WHEN IT FAILED THE CAR ENGINE WAS AT FULL THROTTLE WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STOP IT. A FAILURE THAT DEFAULTS TO FULL ACCELERATION IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND LEARNED THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN RECALLED TO CORRECT THAT DEFECT. I CALLED MAZDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WORK HAD BEEN DONE ON THE CAR. I TOLD MAZDA THAT THE RECALL WORK HAD NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AND THAT A FAILURE THAT DEFAULTS TO A THROTTLE AT FULL ACCELERATION IS A MASSIVELY DANGEROUS DEFECT. THEY BASICALLY SAID WE DID ALL WE HAD TO DO. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND WILL CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. DEALER DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT CODE B1877 AND B1994 NEED 2 HARNESSES FOR SIDE AIR BAGS AND 2 HARNESSES FOR PRETENSIONER. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENT. WELL MAINTAINED IAW MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS. IF THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM PERHAPS THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR $900. *TR
I HAVE HAD AIR BAG HARNESS REPLACED THREE TIMES NOW AND ACCORDING TO MAZDA IT HAS NOW CAUSED MY AIR BAG MODULE TO SHORT OUT. THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE A SAFETY RECALL WHICH MAZDA DOES NOT WANT TO OWN UP TO. I AM CONCERNED FOR SAFETY OF PASSENGER IN CAR AND COST FOR REPLACEMENT IS BECOMING ABSORBENT AND ANY INVESTIGATION INTO THIS SAFETY CONCERN WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR
COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE WITH UNDER 52,000 MILES. *JB
WE WERE BROADSIDED BY A VEHICLE THAT RAN A RED LIGHT AT FULL SPEED. THE IMPACT WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CAR FLIPPED OVER AND SKIDDED ONTHE PASSENGER SIDE THEN FLIPPED BACK ONTO THE DRIVERS SIDE AND SKIDDED BEFORE ROLLING OVER AT LEAST ONCE. NOT ONE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THANK GOD FOR THE SEAT BELTS. THEY SAVED OUR LIVES. INJURIES WERE CONCUSSIONS, SPRAINED NECK, INJURIES TO LOWER NECK, BACK AND SHOULDER OF PASSENGER. WE LANDED UPSIDE DOWN, RELEASED OUR SEAT BELTS AND CRAWLED TO SAFETY WITH THE HELP OF POLICE AND FIRE. OUR SPEED WAS ABOUT 25-30 MILES /HOUR. OUR CAR WAS TOTALLED. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS CITED IN THE ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED WHEN DRIVING AT 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE FAILED ON TWO OCCASIONS ,AND APPEARED AS IF IT WOULD FAIL MORE FREQUENTLY. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON APRIL 27, 2007. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL BUT IT DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE VIN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 95,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. *AK
I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY (4 LANE - 65 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ON THE AFTERNOON OF 2/3/2007 WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 65 MPH. I NOTICED THAT I WAS SPEEDING UP, AND WITHIN A SHORT TIME, MY SPEED HAD CLIMBED TO ABOUT 90 MPH. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MALFUNCTION OF MY SPEED CONTROL, BUT AFTER TOUCHING THE BRAKE AND TURNING THE SPEED CONTROL OFF, IT CONTINUED TO GO ABOUT 90 MPH. AT THIS TIME, I NOTICED AN EXIT COMING UP IN ABOUT 1 MILE - SO I KEPT TOUCHING THE BREAK TO KEEP THE SPEED ABOUT 75-80 AND WHEN I APPROACHED THE EXIT, SHUT OFF THE CAR AND COASTED TO THE TOP OF THE RAMP. WITH THE CAR SAFELY STOPPED, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION, WHERE THE MECHANIC PULLED OFF THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY GOING INTO WHAT I THINK IS A THROTTLE CHAMBER AND FOUND A LARGE PIECE OF ICE HOLDING EITHER THE CHOKE OR THROTTLE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE TEMPERATURES THAT DAY WERE VERY COLD - ABOUT 10 DEGREES F. BELOW ZERO. AFTER REMOVING THE ICE AND CLEANING OUT THE CHAMBER WITH SILICON, AND ALLOWING IT TO WARM UP FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES - EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. I SHOULD NOTE THAT I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALER ABOUT A MONTH EARLIER BECAUSE I NOTICED THE THROTTLE WAS STICKING - THEY SERVICED IT AND IT SEEMED TO BE OKAY, UNTIL THE INCIDENT ON 2/3/07. WHEN I CALLED THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY, BUT THEY SHOWED THIS PART HAD BEEN REPLACED ALREADY. I AM CONCERNED THAT ICE CAN BUILD UP IN THIS AREA AND THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, WHENEVER IT IS COLD OUT. I HAVEN'T SEEN ANOTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINT, BUT THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO DOCUMENT THIS - THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE AT 25 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, UNTIL THE CONTACT HEARD A POPPING NOISE, THAT'S WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO IDLE. WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD SNAPPED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (D DAHLE MAZDA IN MURRAY, UT) AND THEY STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE THEY HAD ALREADY PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR FOR CONTACT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V583000. THE CONTACT CAN PROVIDE PICTURES IF NEEDED.
AT 39720 MILES I BROUGHT MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE IN FOR A PROBLEM THAT TURNED OUT TO BE LEAKS IN THE TRANSFER CASE AND TIMING CHAIN COVER WHICH WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. AT THAT TIME, THE MAZDA SERVICE CENTER (#1) TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS HAD WORN BELOW MINIMUMS, COULD NOT BE RESURFACED AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE PADS WERE AT THEIR MINIMUM THICKNESS AND SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS AFTER HAVING TAKEN THE SAME CAR TO A DIFFERENT MAZDA DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER (#2) ONE WEEK EARLIER AND BEING TOLD THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE OK (5/32 ON PADS; 2/32 BEING THE LEGAL LIMIT) AND COULD PROBABLY GO FOR ANOTHER YEAR BEFORE NEEDING TO BE CHANGED. THAT TECHNICIAN (#2 DEALER) DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS. I WAS TOLD BY THE #1 DEALER THAT THE ROTORS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE MAZDA WARRANTY - THIS WAS CONSIDERED A NORMAL WEAR ITEM. HOWEVER, MAZDA'S OWN NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AGREED WITH ME THAT ROTORS ARE TECHNICALLY NOT A "WEAR" ITEM. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND TIME IN 30 YEARS OF DRIVING CARS WITH DISC BRAKES THAT I HAVE EVER HAD TO REPLACE A ROTOR; THE LAST TIME THE CAR HAD 90,000 MILES ON IT. ROTORS GENERALLY DON'T WEAR AT ANYWHERE NEAR THE SAME RATE AS PADS. ALSO, THERE WAS NO WARNING TO ME WHILE DRIVING THAT I WAS GETTING TO A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE BRAKES APPEARED TO WORK FINE, DID NOT PULL TO ONE SIDE OR MAKE ANY KIND OF SQUEALING OR METAL-ON-METAL SOUNDS. THIS IS A SERIOUS CONDITION WORTHY OF A RECALL! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE A WHILE AGO AS I HAVE HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM FOR MORE THAN A YEAR NOW! THE FACT THAT TWO MAZDA TRAINED TECHNICIANS CAME UP WITH TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ASSESSMENTS OF MY BRAKES IS ALSO CAUSE FOR CONCERN. *NM
CAR STALLS AT LIGHTS DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN ACCELERATING HAVE GONE TO BACK UP AND NO RESPONSE THEN CAR WILL JUST TAKE OFF HAVE HAD 2 ACCIDENTS DUE TO NO ACCELERATION FOG AND BUGS IN TAILLIGHTS AIRBAG LIGHT ON/OFF FOR NO REASON CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR ALL RECALLS I AM TOLD I AM NOT DRIVING THE CAR FAST ENOUGH AND AM TOLD I NEED TO CHECK MY OIL WHEN I GET GAS. TOO MANY PROBLEMS TO LIST DEALER WILL FIX BUT CANNOT DUPLICATE SOME OF THE PROBLEMS I EXPERIENCE HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT MANUFACTURER ONLY TO BE PUT ON HOLD TO LISTEN TO ZOOM ZOOM MUSIC OVER AND OVER. *JB
AT 35,000 MILES I BROUGHT MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE INTO FIRESTONE FOR A BRAKE INSPECTION. AT THIS TIME, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS HAD WORN BELOW MINIMUM SPECIFICATION, COULD NOT BE RESURFACED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I AUTHORIZED THIS WORK TO BE COMPLETED AND PAID FOR THE REPAIRS. SUBSEQUENTLY I WENT TO SHOWCASE MAZDA DEALERSHIP TO REQUEST A REFUND FOR THE AMOUNT I PAID FOR NEW ROTORS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT ROTORS WERE A "WEAR" ITEM, EVEN THOUGH ROTORS ARE NOT LISTED IN THE WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF THE SOFT MATERIAL THESE ROTORS ARE MADE FROM, THEY WEAR MORE EASILY. IN MY OPINION THIS IS "DEFECTIVE MATERIAL" NOT A "ROUTINE WEAR ITEM". THE WARRANTY STATES "WORN BRAKE AND CLUTCH LININGS" ARE EXCLUDED. A ROTOR IS NOT A BRAKE LINING. I BELIEVE MAZDA SHOULD PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL WORN ROTORS DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, INCLUDING MINE. BRAKES ARE CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND ROTORS WEARING OUT IN 35,000 MILES AND EVEN LESS AS I'VE READ AT SOME AUTOBYTEL.COM POSTINGS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY MAZDA AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER. *NM
2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE SUV COMPLETELY STALLED DRIVING 35 MPH, THIS IS THE FOURTH SUCH INCIDENT IN 2 YEARS OF ENGINE STALL, DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE ISSUE "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE". I OWN A MAZDA TRIBUTE 2004, IT WAS TAKEN TO THE MAZDA SERVICING SHOP FOR VARIOUS REPAIRS RANGING FROM A LEAK OF WATER OF RAIN THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, THE TRANSMISSION OF THE SUB WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN REVERSE, THE CONDENSATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONING LEAKS ON TOP OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH IS RUSTED, ALONG WITH VARIOUS OTHER COMPLAINTS. THE SUV CURRENTLY HAS A MILEAGE OF 8695 MILES AND IS EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, IT DOES NOT SHIFT INTO THE 40-55 MPH SHIFT AND EXCEEDS THE #3 RPM'S. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ONCE AGAIN TO THE MAZDA DEALER AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUV IS NO LONGER UNDER GUARANTEE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS OVER 4 YEARS OLD AND THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A SUV WITH ONLY 8695 MILES WHICH IS DRIVEN ONLY LOCALLY CAN BE EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AND KNOW IT IS SO CONVENIENT FOR THE DEALER AND THE CENTRAL OFFICE IN PUERTO RICO TO STATE THAT MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND THAT THIS IS NOT A CASE OF MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT OR RECALL. *JB

AFTER DRIVING 45 MPH ON BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY FOR AT LEAST 3 HOURS, I WAS EXITING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS, I HAD A LOSS OF POWER THAT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. COULD NOT EASILY RECREATE THE PROBLEM, SO I DID NOT GO TO THE DEALER ABOUT IT. *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED 2004 MAZDA RX 8 STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20-35 MPH. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. , BUT AFTERWARDS ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON, AND THE VEHICLE DIED. THE CONSUMER REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER ,AND THEY DID THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, AND FOUND NOTHING BUT SUGGESTED THAT HE DO A TUNE UP ON THE CAR. THE CAR HAS HAD NO OTHER PROBLEMS AND HAS DRIVEN FINE BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. THE OWNER NOTICED BEFORE THIS HAPPENED THAT HE HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 100 MILES WHEN THE CAR STALLED. THIS WAS ON BOTH OCCASIONS. THE DEALER DID DO A COMPUTER UPDATE. *AK
SINCE FEBRUARY 2005 I HAVE HAD MY MAZDA RX8 SERVICED FOR ENGINE NOISES, DECELERATION PROBLEMS, STALLING PROBLEMS AND RESTART PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO IDLE ROUGH AND JUST STALLS OUT (TWICE IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTIONS WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC-LIFE THREATENING SITUATION) AND CANNOT BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE TOWED IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR RESTART. THE PCM HAS BEEN REFLASHED SEVERAL TIMES, PLUGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. I AM AFRAID FOR MY LIFE AND WILL NOT LET ANYONE ELSE RIDE IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE LIFE THREATENING SITUATION AND I WANT TO KNOW IF I HAVE ANY RECOURSE IN GETTING MAZDA TO BUY BACK A CAR I CANNOT DRIVE. MY LUCK WILL RUN OUT IN THIS VEHICLE AND NOT ONLY WILL I BE INJURED OR KILLED, BUT SO WILL OTHER DRIVERS (ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR TRAFFIC BEHIND ME). I HAVE CALLED MAZDA HEADQUARTERS TWICE ABOUT THIS RECURRING PROBLEM AND AM AWAITING A CALL BACK FROM THE SECOND PHONE CALL INTO MAZDA. APPARENTLY THEY DON'T FEEL IT IS AS BAD AS IT IS. *NM
DT: THIS MAZDA HAD A VIBRATION PROBLEM . RECENTLY, HAD A STALLING PROBLEM. THE DEALER TRIED TO GET CONSUMER TO TRADE I IN VEHICLE. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN WOULD HAVE TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO GET IT TO MOVE. THE SERVICE MANAGER FOUND OUT THE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS IN HIGH HEAT AREAS.. THIS STARTED HAPPENING ON JUNE 30, 2005.*AK
WHILE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, I WAS BRAKING TO PARK WHILE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS STILL IN DRIVE. SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV ON ITS OWN, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THE TACHOMETER STARTED READING IN THE DANGER ZONE, AND THE ENGINE WAS REVVING OUT OF CONTROL. WHITE SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. IT WAS QUITE A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE.
DURING ACCELLERATION LOSES POWER, HESITATES, FEELS LIKE ITS GOING TO STALL AND SMOKE COMES OUT OF EXHAUST. DEALER HAS REPLACED FUEL PUMP, PROBLEM GOT BETTER FOR A SHORT PERIOD BUT HAS BEGUN TO REOCCUR. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SO THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. TWO FAILED REPAIR ATTEMPTS - COUNTING UP TO LEMON LAW!

2 OCCURANCES IN 3000 MILES OF ENGINE LOOSING POWER, THEN STARTS TO BUCK ABOVE 3500-4000 RPM. THIS FIRST HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AND IT WAS DIFFICULT STAYING OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC UNTIL I COULD EXIT. THE SECOND OCCURANCE WAS AFTER I HAD EXITED THE FREEWAY ONTO A 2 LANE. I THEN DROVE 30 MILES TO HOME. BOTH TIMES IT WAS OK THE NEXT MORNING. DEALER CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL OWNERS OF THIS MODEL CAR (2004 MAZDASPEED MIATA )HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AS REPORTED ON WWW.MAZDA-SPEED.COM FORUM.
I JUST HAD MY TIRES CHECKED AT 10,000 MILES DURING AN OIL CHANGE AT MY DEALERSHIP. NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. I NOW HAVE 11,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND TIRES. MY TIRES ARE MICHELIN RADIAL XSE P215/50 R17. I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND WITHOUT WARNING MY DRIVERS SIDE BACK TIRES BLEW OUT. IT SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND THE CORDS WERE SHOWING. I AM CONVINCED THAT THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE MICHELIN TIRE BECAUSE OF THE TREAD WEAR AND THE MILES ON IT. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD NOR WAS THE TIRE PUNCTURED. WHEN THE TIRE BLEW I WAS ON WEST BOUND ON I-70 TO DOWNTOWN INDIANAPOLIS AND WITHOUT WARNING I SPUN AROUND SEVERAL TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF I-70 AND GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT AND HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE FOR NECK AND BACK INJURIES. MY MAZDA 6 RECIEVED 6,000 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE THAT I KNOW OF SO FAR NOT TO MENTION THE PERSON THAT I CRASHED INTO. MY INSURANCE WILL NOT PAY FOR THE TIRE BECAUSE THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE ACCIDENT. I THINK MICHELIN SHOULD PAY FOR 4 NEW TIRES OF A DIFFERENT BRAND, MY HOSPITAL VISIT, MY DEDUCTABLE AND MY RENTAL CARE EXPENSE AND MY LOST WAGES. ALSO MY TIRE PRESURE WAS CHECKED BY MY DEALER AGAIN THE WEEK OF JUNE 27,2005. I'M VERY LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T GET HURT WORSE OR SOMEONE GETTING HURT. I STILL DON'T KNOW THE EXTENT OF MY INJURIES BECAUSE I'M STILL HAVING A LOT OF PAIN SINCE THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON JULY 4, 2005. IS IT ANY WONDER THAT THE F1 DRIVERS DIDN'T WANT TO RACE AND FACE AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE YET DEATH?

DT: WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL. IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL AND TIRES WERE NOT IN LINE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. . IF THE ROAD WAS NOT EVEN THE STEERING WHEEL WILL DO THE SAME THING. CONSUMER STATED ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN GOING AT HIGH SPEED, THIS HAPPENED MORE OFTEN AND ON WINDY DAYS. WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT COME ALL THE WAY BACK. *AK

THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN FACT NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. IT WAS NOT RAINING AND AS FAR AS THE CONSUMER COULD REMEMBER SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. THERE WAS NO BLOW OUT OF THE TIRES. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2004 MAZDA 6I. WHEN THE CONSUMER SLOWED DOWN IN FIRST GEAR TO COME TO A STOP THE RPM STARTED TO REV UP ABOUT 2000 OR 3000 RPMS AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV UP ALSO. WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE SAME DAY. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN VERY MUCH SINCE. THE CONSUMER WILL BE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER NEXT WEEK. THERE WAS NO MODIFICATIONS ON THE ENGINE EVERYTHING WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. *JB
CLUTCH SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE. IS VERY PRONOUNCED ON HILLS, INCLINES, AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE CLUTCH IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, IE, NEED ACCELERATION TO PASS, MERGED INTO TRAFFIC ETC. AS A RESULT, THE CLUTCH WILL FAIL TO ENGAGE PROPERLY AND LEAVE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS IN VULNERABLE POSITION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE WHEN EXPECTING TO. IN ADDITION, THE CAR WILL ROLL BACK WHILE ON HILLS AND GET DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO VEHICLES BEHIND IT SINCE THE CLUTCH EITHER ENGAGES RESISTANTLY OR NOT AT ALL. *AK
I WAS SITTING A STOP LIGHT. I WAS REAR ENDED BY A CAR AT 40 MPH. THE IMPACT PUSHED ME INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DEPLOYED BUT SEATBELT BUCKLE SHATTERED INTO 6 PIECES. ON DECEMBER 20, 2004, I TRIED TO CRANK MY NEW 2004 RX-8 TO GO TO WORK. IT WAS 19 DEGREES OUTSIDE. THE CAR WOULD NOT CRANK. IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 2 DAYS OVER THE WEEKEND. UNFORTUNATELY, I TOOK IT OUT OF GEAR AND DID NOT PLACE IT BACK IN. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WENT INSIDE, IT ROLLED, HITTING A TREE CAUSING $3800 DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGE. THE TREE WAS HIT VERY HARD AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. APPARENTLY, THIS CAR "SUPPOSEDLY" WAS RECALLED AND FIXED WHILE STILL OWED BY THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP ACCORDING TO THEIR RECORDS. HOWEVER, AFTER HAVING IT TOWED INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, IT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. I WAS NEVER TOLD OF ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS OR RECALLS PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR. *AK
A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED MY 2004 MAZDA RX8, I WENT TO START THE VEHICLE ONE MORNING AND IT WOULDN'T START. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THEY DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. SERVICE DID A BATTERY INSPECTION, CHARGING AND TESTING; A DIAGNOSIS ON THE SPARK PLUG SET AND DRIVE CYCLE; AND CLEANED THE PLUG THREADS. JUST THIS MONTH, I PULLED TO A STOP LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING THEN DIED. HAD IT TOWED TO SERVICE. SERVICE SAID VEHICLE NEEDED NEW COMPUTER PROGRAM INSTALLED FROM MAZDA. HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 1 YEAR.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH OR MORE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UP TO 110 MPH FOR NO KNOWN REASON, THE CONSUMER STATED, SHE ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING THE BRAKE, WHICH FAILED TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER THEN PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FISH TAIL SEVERELY. THE CONSUMER SHIFTED THE VEHICLE BACK INTO DRIVE,A LITTLE WHILE LATER SHE SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO PARKED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. *JB

2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE WILL NOT HOLD AND GOES FORWARD.
I JUST PURCHASED A NEW 2004 MAZDA MPV, VIN [XXX]. I NOTICE THE OWNER'S MANUAL SPECIFIES A TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE OF 240 KPA (35 PSI), BUT THE VEHICLE PLACARD STATES 240 KPA (32 PSI). SINCE THE CORRECT CONVERSION FROM 240 KPA TO PSI IS 35 PSI, IT APPEARS THE VEHICLE PLACARD IS INCORRECT. MOST USERS IN THE USA WILL USE THE PSI AMOUNT TO DETERMINE PROPER INFLATION PRESSURE. THEREFORE, THE INCORRECT PLACARD INFLATION PRESSURE OF 32 PSI WILL CAUSE UNDERINFLATION OF THE TIRE WHICH CAN LEAD TO TIRE FAILURE AND VEHICLE ACCIDENT.*AK UPDATED 07/26/2012 *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
THIS IS BASICALLY A DESIGN FLAW. OUR 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE SUFFERED "HYDRO-LOCK" AFTER TRAVERSING A FLOODED PAVED ROAD DRIVING ALONG THE ROAD CROWN. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE SUCH THAT THE CENTER YELLOW LINE WAS VISIBLE THROUGH THE MUDDY WATER AND THE WATER LEVEL WAS BELOW THE RUNNING BOARDS. THE VEHICLE STALLED NEAR THE END OF THE FLOODED CONDITION AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART SEVERAL TIMES BUT WOULD STALL AGAIN. WHILE STALLED IN THE FLOODED ROADWAY, SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES INCLUDING PASSENGER CARS (CHEVY MALIBU, NISSAN MURANO) PAST BY OUR STALLED TRIBUTE ON THE LEFT SIDE IN DEEPER WATER. THE TRIBUTE FINALLY STARTED UP AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE OFFICE. THE MAZDA DEALER WHERE PURCHASED ADVISED IT BE TOWED TO THEIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED WATER HAD ENTERED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND CAUSED A "HYDRO-LOCK" (DAMAGED PISTON ROD). IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE (~APPROX. $5,000). A REASONABLE PERSON SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPECT A SUV TO HANDLE ROAD OBSTACLES SUCH AS WATER OF THE CONDITION DESCRIBED ABOVE, THAT WERE EASILY MANAGED BY SMALLER VEHICLES, WITHOUT THIS LEVEL OF DAMAGE. INSPECTION OF THE AIR INTAKE REVEALS IT IS DIRECTED TO THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHEREAS MOST OTHER VEHICLES HAVE IT DIRECTED TO THE SIDE UNDER A FENDER TO PROTECT IT FROM WEATHER CONDITIONS. IN ADDITION THE BRACKET SECURING THE INTAKE ENTRY ABOUT MID WAY DOWN THE FRONT GRILLE DOES NOT ALLOW MUCH AIR FLOW FROM ABOVE. MOST OF ENTERING AIR COMES FROM BELOW THE ENTRY POINT EXPOSING IT TO SPLASH CONDITIONS THAT WOULD NOT BE ENCOUNTERED IF THE INTAKE WAS DIRECTED TO THE NEAREST FENDER WELL AS WITH MOST OTHER VEHICLES I'VE SEEN. THIS IS THE SAME ENGINE AND AIR INTAKE CONFIGURATION AS WITH A FORD ESCAPE WHICH, PER THIS WEB SITE, HAS HAD AT LEAST 8 REGISTERED COMPLAINTS REGARDING ENGINE STALLS. NO WEATHER OR ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS WERE DESCRIBED WITH THESE COMPLAINTS HOWEVER.*AK

Mazda is recalling certain model year 2001 through 2006, and 2008, Tribute vehicles equipped with 3.0L V6 engines and speed control. Inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed control cable connector could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost-fully depressed. This risk exists regardless of whether or not speed control (cruise control) is used.
Mazda's recall campaign number is 6812G. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
