THE PCM FOR THE TRANSMISSION IS OUT OR DEFECTIVE AND FROM WHAT I'VE RESEARCHED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MONTE CARLO. CHEVROLET SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING A KNOWN DEFECTIVE COMPUTER!
TAKATARECALL STIL TILL I HAVE THAT PROBLEMS
WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THIS CAR THE BOOST GAGE WAS NOT WORKING. A FEW DAYS LATER THE GAS OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES STARTED GOING CRAZY. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEEDS TO WORK TO SHOW OVERHEATING OF ENGINE TO AVOID DAMAGE. INTERNET FORUMS SAY THIS ISSUE A VERY COMMON ISSUE. PICTURE SHOWS GAUGES ON LEFT AFTER CAR RUNNING 10 MIN WITH APPROX HALF TANK OF GAS
THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IS FAULTY. MY BLINKERS NEVER WORK RIGHT. SOMETIMES I HAVE RIGHT AND NO LEFT TURN SIGNAL AND MANY TIMES THE HAZARD LIGHTS TURN ON WHEN I USE TURN SIGNAL. THE TURN SIGNAL SOUND OF CLICKING NEVER STOPS, CONSTANT CLICKING THAT OFTEN STARTS BUZZING. QUITE OFTEN MY TURN SIGNALS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND I HAVE NO WAY TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS THAT I AM SWITCHING LANES. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET AND GMC AND EXPENSIVE TO CORRECT.
FEUL PRESSURE REGULATOR RECALL #07E021000 FOR 2005 IMPALA, BUT NOT FOR MY MONIE CARLO , GAS SMELL WHILE DRIVING/FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR LEAKING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FAILED TO TURN OVER IN THE IGNITION SO THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO BE REFERRED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND PROVIDE THE RECALL REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
MY CAR HAS A STRONG GAS ODOR PARTICULARLY IN COLDER WEATHER. I NOTICED IT LAST WINTER AND IT WENT AWAY DURING THE SUMMER. NOW THAT THE TEMPS ARE GETTING COOLER, IT HAS STARTED AGAIN. I TURN ON THE HEAT AND HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN FOR VENTILATION. I'VE HAD THREE DIFFERENT MECHANIC SHOPS CHECK IT OUT. NONE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE. IT IS EMBARRASSING IN THE SCHOOL CAR RIDER LINE OR IN A DRIVE THROUGH. SOMEONE ALWAYS COMMENTS ON IT. I AM WORRIED IT MAY CATCH FIRE.
MY ENGINE (V6 3.8L 3800 SERIES) IS LEAKING OIL ON THE ENGINE. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS YESTERDAY (11/2/16) WHEN HE REPLACED THE PLASTIC ELBOWS AS I HAD ANTIFREEZE LEAKING FROM THEM. HE SAID THE 3.8 L ENGINE HAS A RECALL FOR THIS, OIL LEAKING FROM THE VALVE COVER GASKETS AND SAID CHEVROLET HAS A RECALL TO REPLACE THEM. I DO REMEMBER SEEING THIS RECALL ONLINE SOMEWHERE, BUT HAVE NOT SEEN IT WHILE SEARCHING THE LAST TWO DAYS. MY MECHANIC OLD ME IT WILL CAUSE A FIRE. I HAVE 87771 MILES ON MY CAR. I HAVE TO ADD A QUART OF OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. I HAVE HAD TO DO THIS SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR 6/2008. THE CAR HAS BEEN LEAKING OIL FOR AWHILE NOW.
KEY FOB QUIT WORKING. I USE THE KEY TO MANUALLY UNLOCK CAR. HOWEVER, AFTER CAR IS PARKED AND OFF, THE DOORS LOCK AND UNLOCK THEMSELVES. THE FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS FLASH WHILE DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. THE OTHER NIGHT, IT WAS FLASHING MORSE CODE FOR OVER 24HOURS. I DO NOT HAVE ON STAR CONNECTED. HORN QUIT WORKING 4 MONTHS RIGHT BEFORE KEY FOB QUIT. I CAN'T USE MY BRIGHT LIGHTS, BECAUSE I LOSE DASH LIGHTS, HEAD LIGHTS. MY SON AND I SHARE THIS CAR TO DRIVE TO WORK. SINCE THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING ALL DAY AND NIGHT, I FELT IT IS UNSAFE FOR HIM TO DRIVE TO WORK WHICH IS 40 MILES ONE WAY. WHY SO MANY ISSUES THAT ARE NOT BEING TAKEN SERIOUS? I DRIVE MY CAR DURING DAY TIME. I PRAY I MAKE IT TO WORK. I HAVE TO DRIVE 9 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK. HOWEVER, I DRIVE HIGHWAY 75 WITH SEMI TRUCKS GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR. IF THIS CAR LOSES POWER ON THAT HIGHWAY, I WILL PROBABLY NOT SURVIVE. UNSAFE AND NOT RELIABLE VEHICLE. CHEVY SHOULD HELP US MONTE CARLO OWNERS GET THEM FIXED. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
I BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT. I CAN'T DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT WITH THE LIGHTS ON BRIGHT, BECAUSE WHEN I DO THE LIGHTS SHUT COMPLETELY OFF AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THEM TO COME BACK ON IS TO FLIP THE DIMMER SWITCH. I HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE AND HIGHWAY BOTH, DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. THIS PROBLEM, IN MY OPINION IS A BIG HAZARD AND VERY UNSAFE. I HAD TO HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH REPLACED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REPLACED, BECAUSE IT FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS GOING ON VACATION, I HAD NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN MY CAR OR WHAT SPEED I WAS GOING ALL GAUGES WERE OUT OF WHACK. THE CAR SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE, I'VE TAKEN THIS TO THE DEALER AUTO REPAIR SHOP, THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD SMELL THE GAS BOTH ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE KEY, I TOOK INTO DEALER AND THEY PUT A COVER OVER THE OLD KEY, I PERSONALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE CARE OF WHATEVER THE PROBLEM WAS. I HAVE NOTICED THAT OTHERS ON HERE HAVE LISTED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR. WHAT I'D LIKE TO KNOW IS, IF THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WITH THESE CARS, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ISSUED? I CAN'T SPEAK FOR ANYONE ELSE, BUT I PAID HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THIS CAR AND I'M SICK AND TIRED OF HAVING TO CONSTANTLY REPAIR STUFF, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL. I THINK SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR WORSE. AND IT SHOULDN'T TAKE SOMEONE'S LIFE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS.

PERIODICALLY THE CAR WILL NOT START. THERE WAS A RECALL THAT ONLY REPLACED A PORTION OF THE KEY. THE KEY WILL TURN AND ALL LIGHTS COME ON BUT IT WONT START. IF YOU WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN THE CAR STARTS EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING DIFFERENT. WE TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY ARE STATING IT NEEDS A NEW IGNITION. I DO NOT HAVE A HEAVY KEYRING AND ONLY USE THE SINGLE KEY WITHOUT THE FOB OR ANYTHING AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS (LOW BEAMS) STARTED FLASHING OFF AND ON THEN WENT COMPLETELY OUT, I HIT THE DIMMER SWITCH AND TURNED THE HI BEAMS ON AND THEY WORKED FINE. WHEN I SHUT MY HIGH BEAMS OFF MY LOW BEAMS CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON FOR THE REST OF MY 120 MILE TRIP. FOUR DAYS LATER ON MY WAY TO WORK IN THE DARK THE SAME THING HAPPENED, THE FOLLOWING DAY MY LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT TURN ON AND I HAVE TO HOLD THE DIMMER SWITCH TO KEEP MY HIGH BEAMS ON OR I WILL HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS. ( ONE HAND ON THE DIMMER SWITCH ONE HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL). I SUSPECT IT IS THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH IS A $300 PART. BUT HAVE NOT HAD IT PROFESSIONALLY DIAGNOSED. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT GM NEEDS TO ADDRESS!

I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL DATED JULY 3 2014.I TOLD THEM ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH SUCH AS THE KEY CAN BE PULLED OUT WHEN CAR IS RUNNING AND SOMETIMES THE STARTER STAYS ON WITH ENGINE RUNNING ALSO PROBLEMS TURNING THE KEY.I WAITED WHILE THEY DID THE RECALL SERVICE.WHEN THEY WERE DONE THEY TOLD ME THEY PUT A PLASTIC COVER ON THE KEY.I STARTED THE CAR AND FOUND THE PROBLEMS WERE STILL THERE.I TOLD THEM THE RECALL WAS FOR A IGNITION SWITCH NOT IGNITION KEY AND THEIR FIX DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.THEY TOLD ME THIS FIX IS ALL THEY CAN DO.A FEW WEEKS LATER,I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO SHUT OFF.I HAD TO FORCE THE IGNITION OFF USING A SCREWDRIVER AND I HAD TO BUY A NEW IGNITION SWITCH AND INSTALL IT MYSELF HOWEVER I WILL HAVE TO GO TO A LOCKSMITH SO HE COULD MAKE THE NEW KEY WORK ON MY DOOR.150.00 FOA A SWITCH.STILL HAVE TO PAY A LOCKSMITH.I WANT MY FAMILY TO BE SAFE IN MY CAR.I DON'T THINK G M FEELS THE SAME. *TR

1.)CANNOT DRIVE WITH THE BRIGHTS ON BECAUSE IT WILL UNEXPECTEDLY TRIGGER ALL LIGHTS TO FAIL AND YOU WILL BE DRIVING BLIND IN THE COMPLETE PITCH BLACK NIGHT. 2.)THE SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, AND TEMP GAUGE HAVEN'T WORKED SINCE ABOUT 75,000 MILES. I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND HAVE HAD IT SERVICED AS NEEDED. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT, NOT SOMETHING THAT WAS CAUSED SOMEHOW BY ME. I THINK THAT IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THESE DEFECTS WITH MY OWN MONEY WHEN I SPECIFICALLY PURCHASED A BRAND NEW CAR SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH PROBLEMS OF THE VEHICLE THAT ONE WOULD ASSOCIATE WITH A USED VEHICLE. THE BRIGHTS ISSUE COULD LITERALLY KILL PEOPLE, I'M SURE IT PROBABLY HAS.
INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER SPEEDOMETER AND VOLT METER STOPPED WORKING. PAID DEALERSHIP $440.00 TO REPLACE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING HOME CAR'S HEADLIGHTS BECAME STUCK ON HIGH BEAM AND STAYED STUCK FOR SEVERAL DAYS THEN FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL. A FEW WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO FUNCTION AT ALL. SIGNAL LIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS WERE ALL THAT ILLUMINATED THE ROADS. VISIBILITY WAS ONLY A COUPLE OF FEET. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF ISSUE AND HAS ISSUED SEVERAL TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS FOR IT NOT ONLY THIS MODEL YEAR, BUT OTHERS. THEY WILL NOT FIX OR EVEN REDUCE COSTS TO FIX BECAUSE THEY CLAIM THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. NOT HAVING ANY HEADLIGHTS AT ALL IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN POOR WEATHER, BUT ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT! UPON INSPECTING MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH IN STEERING COLUMN AND FLIPPING EXTERNAL SWITCH FOR HIGH BEAMS/WIPERS/SIGNALS TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY FUNCTION AFTER A MONTH OF CAR SITTING IN DRIVE, SMOKE BEGAN TO STEADILY COME OUT OF STEERING COLUMN AT SWITCH. BATTERY WAS DICONNECTED WHICH STOPPED THE SMOKE. *JS

TRAVELING ON US 90 W. ALL OF A SUDDEN NO GAUGES. FOR WEEKS THERE AFTER I WAS SCARED AND EXTREMELY CONCERNED MY CAR WAS OVER HEATING(MAXED OUT TEMP RANGE)AND SPEEDOMETER ON ZERO. IN SHORT IT DOES EVERY THING READING WISE EXCEPT CORRECTLY ONCE THE KEY IS USED. I (THINK ) I'M HEARING A "POP OR DISTORTED/SHORT" IN THE SPEAKERS. .I HAVE NOT INSTALLED OR OTHERWISE ALTERED ANY EQUIPMENT OR MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT OF ANY KIND... AFTER REVIEWING THE INTERNET AND ASKING OTHER OWNERS OF LIKE MAKE/MODELS AND THE "OTHER CLOSELY RELATED MODELS I.E IMPALA I'VE BEEN TOLD MORE HAVING THIS PROBLEM THAN NOT. I'M ALSO FINDING IT SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM RATHER EARL IN PRODUCTION YEARS AND APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN ENGINEERING/ASSEMBLY OF THESE AUTOMOBILES. (PERHAPS A FULL REVIEW OF ELECTRICAL PATIENT/DESIGN AND ASSEMBLY METHODS MAY RESOLVE WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. I TRULY WANT TO START A CLASS ACTION TO "REPAIR" (NO MONEY)WITH NEW RE-DESIGNED INSTALLS BY DEALER. AS OF TODAY MY "CARLO" IS AT 89000 MI... PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME IF I CAN HELP OR YOU KNOW OF A CORRECT FIX.DEALER WANTS 700 TO REPLACE DASH..(IS THIS NEW DASH DIFFERENT IN ANY WAY FROM OEM BUILD I WONDER)ALSO MY AVALANCHE TRUCK AT 60,000+ DOING THE SAME THING. DOES IT TAKE A FIRE OR DEATH TO RECOGNIZE THIS A RECURRING DEFAULT IN MFG. OF CHEVROLETS. GM AND ITS DEALERS ARE MUM AND IT MUST BE MY FAULT. PERHAPS A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL REVIEW OF GM ENGINEERING IS IN ORDER NOT WITHSTANDING DURABILITY STANDARDS AND WHO MAKES THE WIRES/ASSEMBLY AND WHERE..I'M JUST SAYING. *TR
ON A RAINY DAY I WAS FOLLOWING AT LEAST THREE CAR LENGTHS BEHIND A TRUCK THAT LOST CONTROL AND STARTED TO SKID. I PUT MY BRAKES ON BUT MY CAR HYDROPLANED AND LEFT THE PAVEMENT THE CAR CAME BACK DOWN AND SLID AS I WAS SLIDING I SMACKED A FORD F-150 MY SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK ON IMPACT CAUSING ME TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AS IT WOULD NO LONGER RUN. *TR
VEHICLE IGNITION RANDOMLY TURNING OFF ENGINE WHILE IN GEAR FROM 2006 TO SALE IN NOV 2007. TRIPS TO DEALERSHIPS IN MALDEN, MA AND WEST BABYLON, NY ADVISED "TOO HEAVY" KEYRING, BUT CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM. ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF ENTIRE DASHBOARD INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER OCCURRED IN JANUARY, 2007 AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REPAIRED BY DEALERSHIP IN WEST BABYLON NY WHERE I WAS TOLD KEYS WERE TOO HEAVY FOR IGNITION REPORTING NOW DUE TO SIMILAR INSTANCES IN OTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLES BUT NOTICED MONTE CARLOS WERE NOT ADDRESSED AS AN ISSUE. *TR
THE STEERING PROBLEM WAS FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH 19,000 MILES.. VERY TIGHT STEERING, WAS IN WARRANTY AT THE TIME AND HAD IT SERVICED. HOWEVER, ALL THEY SAID WAS IT WAS ADJUSTED. *TR THIS WAS THE SPRING OF 2006. STEERING AT THIS TIME IS STILL VERY TIGHT, AND IT IS REAL BAD IN SUMMER MONTHS. THE CAR NOW HAS 39,000 APPROX. IF MY CAR WAS RECALLED BECAUSE OF THIS, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THE SPEEDOMETER AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP, BEGINS TO STOP WORKING. USUALLY AFTER STOPPING AT A LIGHT, I WOULD NOTICE THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS BELOW ZERO (0) THEN I KNOW UPON ACCELERATING IT WILL NOT GO UP EVEN TO 45 MPH...AT TIMES IT STICKS TO AROUND 25 OR SO. THEN AFTER ABRUPTLY STOPPING AND THEN GOING FORWARD, IT WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL. THIS IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE I TRY TO STAY WITHIN THE PROPER SPEED, ACCORDING TO OTHER CARS AROUND ME, BUT IF I WAS TO GO SLOWER THAN I THOUGHT TO BE, I COULD GET SLAMMED INTO BECAUSE OF NOT KEEPING UP WITH OTHERS. I FEAR THIS. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS ALSO NOT READING RIGHT, IT USUALLY SHOULD STAY BELOW HALF TEMP... IT GOES UP ABOVE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD ANTI FREEZE REPLACED WITH FRESH. THAT TOO IS DANGEROUS. OTHER THAN THESE THINGS, I HAVE HAD LITTLE TO NO PROBLEMS. I LOVE THE CAR, I JUST HATE WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO LOOK INTO THIS, AS I HAVE NOTICED I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE CONCERNS OF THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. FOR ME, THE STEERING IS THE MOST DANGEROUS. NOW IF MY CAR WAS IN ANY RECALL I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED, AS I MOVED OUT WEST FOR A FEW YEARS, AND ADDRESS HAD CHANGED. I AM NOW BACK HOME. NATURALLY WHEN YOUR NEW / USED CAR WARRANTY STOPS, THEN "THINGS" HAPPEN AND STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS MAKES IT HARD TO SERVICE THE EXPENSIVE PARTS.

I HAVE BEEN THE SOLE OWNER OF THIS 2005 MONTE CARLO. I HAD AN OIL LEAK AND THE CHEVY DEALER RAN A DYE TEST TO SEE WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. THE TEST SHOW IT WAS THE REAR MAIN SEAL THAT WAS BAD. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN ON ALL SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES, RUNNING MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC (RECOMMENDED) AND HAVING ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE DONE. I DO NOT FEEL A REAR MAIN SEAL SHOULD BE GOING OUT ON THIS LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE (UNDER 50,000 MILES). I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER CARE LINE, AND THEY WERE NO HELP. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 45,000 MILES. A YR. AFT. I BOUGHT MY 2005 MONTE CARLO, THINGS BEGAN GOING WRONG WITH IT. FIRST 2 THINGS TO GO:THE CRUISE CONTROL & RE-WINDOW DEFROSTER. THE NEXT YR, WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE, I SWITCHED MY LIGHTS TO BRIGHTS & WITHIN SECONDS I HAD NO LIGHTS AT ALL! THIS COULD OF CAUSED A VERY BAD ACCIDENT, I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY SWITCH THE LIGHTS BACK TO DIM & LUCKILY THEY CAME BACK ON. SINCE THEN, I NO LONGER USE THE BRIGHT LIGHTS, FOR FEAR OF MY LIGHTS NOT COMING BACK ON. THEN IT SEEMED LIKE EVERYTHING WENT HAYWIRE AFTER THAT, ODOMETER SHOWED THAT I WAS GOING 110, GAS GAUGE QUIT & TEMP GAUGE REGISTERED PAST 260. NOT A FUN NIGHT TO BE DRIVING, NOT KNOWING MY CORRECT SPEED, HOW MUCH GAS I HAD, IF MY CAR WAS GOING TO OVERHEAT OR HAVE NO LIGHTS! SINCE 6/15/2012 THE TACH NOW REGISTERS BETWEEN 6000-7000 RPMS & NONE OF THE GAUGES ARE WORKING PROPERLY. MY CAR ALSO SMELLS LIKE IT HAS AN EXHAUST OR FUEL LEAK WHICH COMES THRU THE VENTS, IT MAKES ME SICK & GIVES ME HEADACHES. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER A YR. AGO, PAID $98.00 FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. TO THIS DAY, MY CAR STILL SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE, I PRAY IT DOESN'T CATCH ON FIRE. TONIGHT I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THESE PROBLEMS & FOUND THAT THE FAULTY GAUGES IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS & QUITE EXPENSIVE TO FIX. I FEEL CHEVY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THIS PROBLEM & ALL THE OTHERS, AFTER ALL THEY'RE THE ONES WHO BUILT A CAR WITH MANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. THIS IS VERY UNFAIR FOR THE MANY CONSUMERS OUT THERE WHO HAVE SPENT THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY TO BUY THIS CAR. NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD TO GET THIS FIXED ALONG WITH PAYING THE CAR PAYMENT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CAN'T BE MADE TO TAKE CARE OF THIS. WHAT WOULD HAVE TO HAPPEN IN ORDER TO MAKE THEM PAY? WHAT'S LISTED ABOVE? A CRASH, FIRE, INJURY OR DEATH? SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY, SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE ANY OF THAT HAPPENS! *TT
ALL OF MY GAUGES STOPPED WORKING CORRECTLY. THIS PROBLEM FIRST STARTED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO WITH MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND BATTERY GAUGES. NOW MY SPEEDOMETER IS FLUCTUATING IRRATICALLY AND GETTING STUCK. AFTER REVIEW OF OTHER BLOGS AND POSTS THIS IS DEFINATELY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE GM. *TT

HEATER BLOWER MOTOR FIRE'S ON 2005 CHEVY MONTE CARLO LS, REPLACED TWICE !!! FIRE BOTH TIMES. THE FIRST TIME WAS PROBABLY AROUND 18,000 MILES OR SO. THEN THE SECOND TIME WAS AROUND 27,000 MILES OR SO. (I WOULD HAVE TO FIND MY RECIEPTS TO VERIFY EXACTLY). BUT, BOTH TIMES THE CAR'S BLOWER MOTOR WAS ON FIRE !!! ALOT OF SMOKE, THICK ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL. A MAN CAME OVER TO HELP ME (AS I AM HANDICAPPED BY POLIO, AND COULD NOT GET OUT OF MY CAR MYSELF), AFTER IT HAD BEEN BURNING FOR ABOUT 1/2 HOUR , THE MAN POURED WATER INTO THE FIREWALL AREA THAT WAS BURNING, IT STILL TOOK ABOUT ANOTHER HALF HOUR TO TRY TO STOP THE FIRE. BUT ONLY THE FAN MOTOR AND CLOSE VACINITY BURNED. BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IF THAT MAN HAD NOT COME ALONG AND POURED BOTTLE WATER ON IT REPEATEDLY FOR MANY, MANY TRIES BEFORE EXTINGUISHING THE FIRE. MY CAR WAS REPAIRED AT WHERE I PURCHASED THE MONTE CARLO NEW.". RIGHT NOW (6-20-11) I HAVE ONLY 28,000 MILES ON THIS 2005 MONTE CARLO. I HAVE ALSO, JUST HAD TO REPLACE THE WIPER MOTOR., A FEW WEEKS AGO. !!! THESE SHOULD BE RECALLED AND GM SHOULD HAVE TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS OR REFUND THE MONEY THAT PEOPLE LIKE ME HAVE ALREADY SHELLED OUT FOR THESE VERY COSTLY REPAIRS !!! NOW...I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING RIGHT. AND GAS GAUGE, "THE ENTIRE CLUSTER IS BAD, AT AN APPROXIMATE COST OF AROUND $600.00 (SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS). THIS ALSO SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY. MY SPEEDOMETER MIGHT SHOW 90 MPH WHEN I KNOW I AM GOING MAYBE 40. OR IT MIGHT SHOW 20, WHEN I'M ON THE HIGHWAY DOING ABOUT 70 !!! SOMETIMES THE SPEEDOMETER GOES ALL THE WAY AROUND - PAST 120MPH . YESTERDAY, WHEN I STOPPED MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT SHOWED I WAS STILL GOING 60 MPH WHILE SITTING STILL IN MY DRIVEWAY. HELP PLEASE, MAKE GM RECALL AND RE-IMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THESE REPAIRS !!! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) **TT
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OF MY VEHICLE NEEDS REPLACING. THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT SPEED. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE AND I BELIEVE THIS IS A VAST PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL OF THIS DEFECT.

OWNED THIS 2005 MONTE CARLO FOR OVER 3 YEARS NOW, FIRST INCIDENT WAS AROUND 50 TO 60000 MILES, 2 YEARS AGO, MY THEN MECHANIC CHANGED OUT SOMETHING IN MY IGNITION SWITCH THAT CURED THE SECURITY LITE ISSUE. I HAVE THE SECURITY LITE ON AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT AROUND 95000 MILES, AFRAID TO TURN THE CAR OFF, BUT, IF I AM AT HOME, I WILL SHUT THE CAR OFF AND IMMEDIATELY SEE IF IT WILL RESTART AND IT DOES, AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES RUNNING, THE SECURITY LITE POPS ON AGAIN AND STAYS ON! NOW, READING ALL THIS GM PASSLOCK SYSTEM ISSUES, IT IS VERY CLEAR GM NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, AND IT IS A PROBLEM OF GM! THE MONEY WE PAY FOR CARS AND FOR THIS TO CONTINUE IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE DEALERSHIPS WANTS TO REPLACE THE BCM, OF COURSE, THAT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE PART AND IT IS NOT SOLVING THE ISSUE, THEY ARE PLAYING A GUESSING GAME WITH OUR WALLETS! ! IT IS APPARENT THERE IS A DEFECT SOMEWHERE IN THE PASSLOCK SECURITY AND I FIND THIS AS MANY OTHERS DO UNACCEPTABLE TO THE POINT WHERE I WILL NOT EVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT AND IF EVERYONE IN THESE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ DOES THE SAME THING, WELL, GM, I THINK YOU WILL HAVE RAMIFICATIONS FROM IT. WHY DON'T YOU PLEASE MAKE IT RIGHT WITH THE CHEVY CUSTOMERS THAT GIVES YOU YOUR JOB, BECAUSE IF NO ONE IS BUYING GM, THERE WILL BE NO JOB. I WOULD THINK GM CAN RESTORE A GOOD REPUTATION IF THIS WAS SOLVED. WE THE PEOPLE OWNING GM WITH YOUR SECURITY ISSUE IS REQUESTING A FINAL SOLUTION TO THIS ANNOYING ONGOING PROBLEM! SO WHAT DO YOU SAY GM, YOU THINK A RECALL IS IN ORDER FOR THE PASSLOCK SECURITY LITE ISSUES ON THE CHEVYS? WE THE PEOPLE BELIEVE THERE NEEDS TO BE ONE QUICKLY! *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2005 CHEVY MONTE CARLO REGISTERS THE WRONG SPEED. WHILE IN PARK, IT READS DIFFERENT SPEEDS FROM NEGATIVE TO 120 MPH. WHILE DRIVING, IT DOES NOT REGISTER CORRECT SPEED. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER MONTE CARLO OWNERS WITH EXACT SAME COMPLAINT. MINE BEGAN RIGHT AROUND 70,000 MILES, THE SAME AS OTHERS. DEALER STATES IT IS NOT RECALLED OR UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL COST $600. TO REPAIR. THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED GOING THE WRONG SPEED BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD FAIL SPORADICALLY AND THE GAUGES WOULD READ INACCURATELY, SUCH AS SPEEDS TRAVELED AND FUEL LEVELS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED THAT HE WAS TRAVELING 100 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. PERTAINING TO MY 2005 MONTE CARLO LT 3.8 V-6... WHILE DRIVING WITH HIGH BEAMS ON THE HEADLIGHTS WILL SHUT OFF... THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH 23,000 MILES ON IT LAST AUGUST 2009... WHEN THEY SHOUT OFF I HAVE TO USE THE DASH SWITCH TO TURN THEM BACK ON... I DID END UP DRIVING OFF THE EDGE OF THE ROAD ONE EVENING WHEN THIS HAPPENED... NO MAJOR DAMAGE DONE TO MYSELF, THE VEHICLE OR PROPERTY WHERE THE INCIDENT OCCUR BUT SCARED ME REALLY BAD!!! I DID GO BACK AND RACK THE RUTS OUT OF THE EDGE OF THE LAWN WHERE IT HAPPENED... VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION... SHOULD BE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING; THE SPEEDOMETER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 120 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY IN COLD WEATHER. IF THE CONTACT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO WARM UP FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES, THE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,136.
NO EVENTS HAVE LEAD UP TO THE PROBLEM THAT I KNOW OF. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR DAY TO DAY MY SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2005 MONTE CARLO LT SEEMS TO STICK. IT SHOWS ME GOING OVER THE SPEED LIMIT BY 30 MPH OR MORE AND STAYS THERE. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE PROBLEM AS OF TODAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2010. *TR
I HAVE 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO WITH CURRENTLY 58,228 MILES. RECENTLY I HAVE BEGAN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY SPEEDOMETER EITHER STICKING OR NOT RETURNING TO THE '0' POSITION. FROM MY INTERNET SEARCH, THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALLS FOR THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. I HAVE DONE FURTHER RESEARCH TO SEE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2005 CHEVY MONTE CARLO. LAST YEAR I NOTICED MY SPEEDOMETER AND RPM AND TEMP GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR PLACES TO GET IT REPLACED AND IT JUST COSTS TOO MUCH AND WILL TAKE 3-5 DAYS FOR REPAIR AND I NEED MY CAR FOR WORK. I HAVE BEEN USING MY GPS TO SEE HOW FAST IM GOING. I ALSO LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. MY OIL GAUGE AND GAS GAUGE WORKS FINE. *TR
2005 MONTE CARLO SPEEDOMETER GAGE FAULTY READING INACCURATE OR FREEZES UNDERSTANDING THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER MONTE CARLO OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALSO WITH OTHER GAUGES. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 MONTE CARLO WITH ONLY 87,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY I WAS GOING APPROX. 55 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED SPEEDING UP SAYING I WAS GOING OVER 120. NOW THE SPEEDOMETER IS SAYING 120 MILES AN HOUR IN PARK. I HAVE CALLED THE CAR DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE OVER $500.00 TO FIX. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ALOT ON THE 2005 MONTE CARLO'S. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER IN MY WIFE'S 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO STARTED SHOWING THE WRONG SPEED WHEN WE WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I SET THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 75, YET THE SPEEDOMETER SAID I WAS GOING OVER 100. AT FIRST THE PROBLEM WAS SPORADIC, THEN BECAME CONTINUOUS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACED FOR ABOUT $460. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR, I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO I HAD TO PAY $200 OF THE ORIGINAL BILL, HOWEVER THIS SEEMS TO BE A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM OVER SEVERAL YEARS OF GM PRODUCTS. THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANY ACCIDENTS WHILE THIS WAS OUT, BUT MY DAUGHTER RECEIVED A SPEEDING TICKET AND I RECEIVED 2 WARNINGS FOR SPEED, ALL WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ERRATIC AND INACCURATE SINCE EARLY 2009 WITH ABOUT 60,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TELL HOW FAST THE CAR IS GOING SINCE THEN. WHILE DRIVING SLOW ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS, THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS 120 MPH OR MORE. WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED ON I-95, THE SPEEDOMETER SOMETIMES REGISTERS 20 MPH. THE TACHOMETER ALSO DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY AND THE GAS AND TEMPERATURE GUAGES ARE UNRELIABLE. UPON CHECKING THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS, FOUND THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH THE 2005 MONTE CARLO, AS WELL AS EARLIER MODEL GM VEHICLES. WHILE THE EARLIER MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM, THE 2005 MONTE CARLO HAS NOT. CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A RECALL ON THE 2005 MONTE CARLO, AS THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND REPAIRS SHOULD BE COMPED BY GM. DEALER ESTIMATES REPAIR COST BETWEEN $600 AND $900. DAUGHTER RECEIVED A HIGHWAY SPEEDING TICKET IN FEBRUARY 2010 DUE TO INACCURATE SPEEDOMETER READING.
NO CRASHES BUT MY CHEVY MONTE CARLO 05 HAS A PROBLEM IT SEEMS LIKE THE HIGH BEAMS ARE ON A TIMER AND SHUT DOWN THE LIGHTS WHILE DRIVING. I KNOW OF ONE OTHER PERSON THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM. HOW MANY MORE ARE THERE? I WONT LET MY KIDS EVEN USE THE CAR AFTER DUSK. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO LS - SPEEDOMETER REGISTERED OVER 100 MPH WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH. ONCE PEGGED IT WOULD NOT RETURN TO ZERO, THE GAUGE REMAINED AT 50 - 60 MPH. WHILE RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I FOUND THAT GM HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH VARIOUS MODEL CARS AND SUV SPEEDOMETER AND AT LEAST ONE CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS BROUGHT AGAINST THEM. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER FAILED ON A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. PANEL CLUSTER FAILED AROUND 42,000 MILES ON THE CAR. GAS GAUGE DOES NOT WORK NOR DOES THE SPEEDOMETER. OR TEMP GAUGE. THIS ISSUE IS COMPLAINED OF IN THE SAME YEAR VEHICLES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 MONTE CARLO AT NIGHT AND MY SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER BEGAN TO OPERATE ERRATICALLY AND STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 46,700 MILES ON IT WHEN THE MALFUNCTION OCCURRED. I REPORTED THIS TO THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER ON 3/1/10 AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED. THE CSR ADMITTED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE TO OPERATE THE CAR WITH A FAULTY SPEEDOMETER BUT TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP ANYWAY. (?) THE FAILURE OF GENERAL MOTORS DASHBOARD ELECTRONICS IS REPORTED EXTENSIVELY ON THE INTERNET. THERE ARE AT LEAST 57 COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. GM AGREED TO PAY FOR TRUCKS AND SUVS FOR 2002 - 2004 MODEL YEARS BUT WILL NOT REPAIR ANY AUTOMOBILES. GM RECEIVED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN A SETTLEMENT FROM DELPHI ELECTRONICS FOR FAULTY PARTS IN A CLOSED SETTLEMENT. HOWEVER, GM WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THESE GAUGES. THIS APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO THE CURRENT TOYOTA FAILURE TO RESPOND TO THE FLOOR MAT FOOT PEDAL HAZARDS. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BY OPERATING GM AUTOMOBILES WITH KNOWN OR POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ELECTRONICS. RESPECTFULLY. *TR

THERE WAS A SEPARATE OCCASION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC IN WHICH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WAS NOT A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION.. THE CONTACT HAD A CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. UPDATED 3/30/10 *CN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED WITH THE ASSITANCE OF GM. UPDATED 06/04/10.*JB
SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY. AS WELL AS OTHER CLUSTERS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ONLINE. *TR
ALL OF THE GAUGES ON MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL ARE WORKING IMPROPERLY. THE SPEEDOMETER IS OVER 140 MPH, THE FUEL GAGE SOMETIMES READS E EVEN WHEN THERE IS A FUEL TANK OF GAS IN THE CAR. THE VOLT WILL SET AT 8 (THE LOWEST POINT) AND AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR AN HOUR OR SO WILL FINALLY MOVE TO ABOVE THE MIDDLE POINT. THE GAGE INDICATORS VARY FROM DAY TO DAY AND IT IS VERY STRESSFUL BECAUSE THE INDICATORS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO ASSIST ME WHILE DRIVING ARE NOT WORKING AND FEEL THAT IT IS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS TO BE OUT ON THE ROAD WITH A CAR THAT IS NOT FUNCTIONING THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSE TO. I HAVE HAD THE CAR SERVICED AND EVERYTHING WORKS PROPERLY, BUT THE PANEL ITSELF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVEROLET MONTE CARLO. THE SPEEDOMETER INTERMITTENLY FAILED TO DISPLAY THE ACTUAL SPEED THAT THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93000.

I HAVE 2005 MONTE CARLO SS, THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE FUEL GAUGE HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THEY FAIL WHEN IT IS COLD OUT AND WHEN IT IS WARM THEY WILL SOME TIMES WORK, HOWEVER DO I KNOW IF THEY ARE REALLY WORKING. I HAVE READ ONLINE WHERE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE 2005 MONTE CARLO WITH 85,000 MILES AND NOW THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS GONE SOUTH. THE SPEEDOMETER IS OFF AND THE TEMP GAGE IS NOT WORKING. I HAVE INVESTIGATED AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM ALSO MY TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SLIP. CAN YOU HELP? I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER AMERICAN CAR. *TR
I OWN A 2005 MONTE CARLO, AT AROUND 50,000 MILES BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE FUEL GAUGE AND THE ALTERNATOR GAUGE FAILED. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOT RETURNING TO THE SET POSITION, I DO SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED TO FOR THIS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY CHEVY AND I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FAILURE FROM OTHER OWNERS. THE FIX FOR THIS IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, THIS IS RUNNING BETWEEN $450 AND $650. I THINK THIS IS A DEFECT THAT CHEVY NEEDS TO REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. THE SPEEDOMETER ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL DISPLAYS INACCURATE READINGS. A TECHNICIAN FROM THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE MADE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,664. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,654. UPDATED 01/1410 *BF UPDATED 01/20/10.*JB
INSTRUMENT GAUGES GONE CRAZY. SPEEDO READS 100MPH SITTING STILL. TACH RELINES SITTING STILL. GAS GAUGE READS PAST FULL. ETC.THIS IN ON A 2005 MONTE CARLO WITH ONLY 32,000 MILES. DEALER WANTS $500.00 PLUS TO REPLACE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND SLOWED DOWN AS I ENTERED A TOWN. ONCE I GOT BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY, AND RESET MY CRUISE CONTROL, MY SPEEDOMETER READ AT 90MPH. I WAS NOT GOING THAT FAST. ONCE I GOT STOPPED, I COULD SEE THAT MY SPEEDOMETER WAS READING AT 30MPH WHILE IN PARK. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED. AT TIMES, THE SPEEDOMETER READING WILL NEVER GO PAST 0MPH AND AT OTHERS, IT WILL READ AT 120MPH WHEN I FIRST START MY CAR. IT WILL SHOW THAT I'M ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING, BUT WILL FAIL TO RETURN TO 0. I CAN ALSO HEAR A CLICKING NOISE WHEN IT DECELERATES. AT THIS POINT, I'M ESTIMATING HOW FAST I'M GOING BASED ON WHERE MY RPM GAUGE READS AT. THE ONLY COMPONENT TO FAIL IS THE SPEEDOMETER. *TR
OCTOBER 27, 2009 WAS THE 3RD TIME IN 4 DAYS THAT THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER HAVE STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING OR FAILED TO WORK PERIOD. I DON'T KNOW WHAT LED UP TO THE FAILURE IT JUST STARTED WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 23, 2009 AND MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 65 MPH AND I NOTICED MY CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND I WAS ALMOST REARENDED I GAVE THE CAR SOME GAS AND I NOTICED THAT MY SPEEDOMETER WASN'T WORKING NOR WAS MY TACHOMETER. I HAVEN'T HAD ANYTHING DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND I HAVE NOTICED THAT MANY MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH 2002 THROUGH 2005 MONTE CARLO'S. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS WILL EVENTUALLY TAKE A LIFE IF NOT ADDRESSED AND FIXED BY CHEVROLET. THERE IS CLEARLY A HUGE PROBLEM THAT MUST BE RECALLED. I HAD A 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT WAS RECALLED FOR FAULTY TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES. THIS PROBLEM IS MUCH MORE SERIOUS THAN THAT WAS AND IT WAS RECALLED SO WHY NOT THIS? THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN A CAR IS THE DRIVERS INFORMATION CENTER AND A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN IF IT IS PROVEN TO BE FAULTY. SPEED CONTROL IS REQUIRED BY ALL STATES AND IF A CAR MANUFACTURER HAS AN ISSUE THIS BIG WITH ONE OF ITS PRODUCTS THEN IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND NOT HIDDEN. THIS PROBLEM IS ALSO PRESENT IN MANY OTHER GM VEHICLES AS WELL. RESEARCH IT I DID AND I KNOW THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM. I AM SURE YOU CAN REACH THE SAME CONCLUSION. TOOK ME ONLY 2 HOURS OF RESEARCH FOR ME TO REACT. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE THE GOVERNMENT? MAYBE NEVER SINCE THEY NOW HAVE A VESTED INTEREST IN GM OR MAYBE A FEW HUGE LAWSUITS AGAINST GOVERNMENT MOTORS WILL CHANGE ITS MIND. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT REGISTER MILEAGE BEYOND 65 MPH. WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF THE SPEEDOMETER RESETS AND OPERATES NORMALLY. THE DEALER STATED VIA PHONE THAT FOR $600 THEY WOULD REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS OR WARRANTIES AVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTING TO GO OUT. TACHOMETER WORKS SPORADICALLY, OIL GAUGE AND TEMP GAUGE DO NOT WORK AT ALL. SPEEDOMETER AND GAS GAUGE ARE STILL WORKING. TRYING TO HOLD OUT ON REPAIR UNTIL TOTALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. WHENEVER THE CONTACT STARTS THE VEHICLE, THE SPEEDOMETER WILL WORK SPORADICALLY. OCCASIONALLY, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILS TO DISPLAY THE CORRECT SPEED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
SPEEDOMETER WOULD START READING 20-30 MPH LESS OR MORE THAN ACTUAL SPEED, THEN OVER A PERIOD OF WEEKS, WOULD END UP SHOWING 120MPH, EVEN BURIED, AND STAY THERE. WOULD WORK ITSELF BACK TO 0 AND STAY THERE. THEN TACH STARTED READING WRONG. FOUND OUT MANY OF THESE VEHICLES HAD SAME PROBLEM. HAD TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AT $560.00. *TR
WENT OUT ONE MORNING TO START MY CAR AND LET IT WARM UP. TURNED THE WIPERS ON TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD, AND THEY WENT H ALFWAY UP AND STOPPED. SHUT THEM OFF, AND THE PARKED IN THE UP POSITION FROM THEN ON. WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH THEM IN THE UP POSITION, THEY WOULD VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY DUE TO THE WIND, AND I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE RIPPED OFF THE GLASS. HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY FIXED, FOR $700. THIS HAS HAPPENED A LOT WITH THIS MODEL CAR FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN AND READ. *TR
WAS DRIVING HOME AROUND 9:30PM WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS JUST WENT OUT, FLICKERED, THEN CAME BACK ON. SCARED MY PASSENGER (AND ME!). FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED, BUT I SEE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND I'M WORRIED THIS MAY START TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS! *TR
MY CAR SPEEDOMETER WILL GET STUCK, READ A MPH THAT IS 20 TO 40 MPH HIGHER OR IT WILL PEG OUT AT 120+ AND SOMETIMES WONT REPAIR ITSELF UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. TO MY UNDERSTANDING GM HAS A RECALL ON SEVERAL VEHICLES USING THE SAME GAUGE STEP MOTORS BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS MODEL OR OTHERS THAT USE THIS SAME PART. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST IM TRAVELING. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP. *TR
CERTAIN LIGHTS IN DASHBOARD CONTROLS ARE BURNT OUT. RIGHT NOW THE PROBLEM JUST INVOLVES THE TACHOMETER, IGNITION ILLUMINATION AND DRIVER HEAT/COOL CONTROL INDICATOR. PROBLEM IS MANAGEABLE DURING THE DAYTIME BUT AT NIGHT, NECESSARY PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD DO NOT ILLUMINATE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE LIGHTBULBS THEMSELVES CANNOT BE REPLACED. THE WHOLE CONTROL BOARD FOR THAT PARTICULAR PART OF THE DASH ($300.00) MUST BE REPLACED WHICH IS RIDICULOUS ON A FOUR YEAR OLD CAR. *TR
I OWN A 2005 MONTE CARLO THAT I BOUGHT USED 16 MONTHS AGO. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED STICKING WHEN SLOWING DOWN. NOW THE SPEEDOMETER ONLY MOVES FORWARD, CONTINUING TO MOVE CLOCKWISE ALL THE WAY AROUND. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER THAT, I NOTICED MY GAS GAUGE WAS NOT REGISTERING CORRECTLY AND NOW JUST REMAINS IN A SOUTH POSITION. NOT ONLY THAT BUT ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, MY TURN SIGNALS STOPPED FLASHING WHEN IN USE AND WOULD NOT FLASH AGAIN UNTIL THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. AFTER THAT THEY WOULD WORK FOR A WHILE BUT START ACTING UP AGAIN AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR OF DRIVING. NOW MY TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY WHICH HAS NOW AFFECTED MY HAZARD LIGHTS. OF COURSE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN NOVEMBER 07 BUT I THINK I WILL BE ABLE TO GET THE DEALERSHIP TO PAY FOR IT UNDER MY MECHANICAL WARRANTY SINCE THE CAR ONLY HAS 46,000 MILES ON IT. IF NOT I WILL TRY TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE THE DEALERSHIP OR GM PAY FOR IT AS THIS IS CONSIDERED A DEFECTIVE PART. NOT TO MENTION THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WHICH SUPPORTS THE DEFECTIVE PART THEORY. WITH THAT BEING SAID, DEFECTIVE PARTS ARE THE MANUFACTURER?S RESPONSIBILITY AND NOT OF THE CONSUMER. I STILL SUGGEST THE NHTSA MANDATE SOME KIND OF RECALL FOR THIS BECAUSE ONE WRONG ACCIDENT CAN HAVE DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES. PREVENTABLE MEASURES ARE MUCH CHEAPER AS OPPOSED TO THE ALTERNATIVE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND INSIDE DASH LIGHTS ERRATIC STOPPED WORKING, NO ACCIDENT. *TR
NOTICED THAT SPEEDOMETER STAYED AT 70MPH WHEN I EXITED FREEWAY. WHEN I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION THE NEEDLE STAYED AT 70. ON START UP THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED AT 70MPH AND WENT UP FROM THERE. EVERY CAR WAS TURNED OFF THE WAS STUCK AT A HIGHER SPEED EVENTUALLY COMING BACK TO 0, THE SPEEDOMETER SEEMED TO WORK CORRECTLY FOR A WHILE THEN START THE CYCLE AGAIN. I TRIED TO USE THE TACH TO MONITOR MY SPEED BUT IT WOULD OCCASIONALLY BE ERRATIC ALSO. *TR
MY 2005 MONTE CARLO'S SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T RESET TO ZERO. IT STICKS AT 23 MPH EVEN WHEN SHUT-OFF. IT SHOWS ABOUT 63 MPH WHEN I AM REALLY DOING ABOUT 40 MPH. OR SOMETIMES 70 MPH WHEN REALLY ABOUT 40-45 MPH. THIS SPEEDOMETER IS FAULTY/DEFECTIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. GM SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL THIS 2005 CHEVY MONTE CARLO AND PAY FOR THE $500-$600 REPAIR BILL. PLEASE TALK WITH THE GOVERNMENT TO DEMAND A RECALL AND FORCE GM TO PAY THE REPAIR BILLS FOR THESE CARS FROM 2003 THROUGH 2007 GHM VEHICLES (ABOUT 10 MODELS). *TR
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY MONTE CARLO THAT HAS A FAILED INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE SPEEDOMETER READS 120 WHEN THE CAR IS IN PARK. IT CAN BE RESET BACK TO 0 IF YOU TURN THE KEY OFF AND ON NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT IT FAILS AGAIN EVENTUALLY. THE CAR HAS 57,000 MILES ON IT AND IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANY MORE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE TALKED TO CHEVY AND MY DEALER AND THEY WILL NOT HELP AT ALL WITH THE COST OF THIS REPAIR, WHICH WILL BE APPROX. $500. I DON'T THINK THIS TYPE OF FAILURE SHOULD BE HAPPENING TO MY 2005 VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CRUISE CONTROL MECHANISM WAS ACTIVATED. UNEXPECTEDLY, THE SPEEDOMETER AND RPM GAUGES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS REPLACED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
RECENTLY WITH NO APPARENT PRECIPITATING FACTOR THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2005 CHEVY MONTE CARLO HAS BEGUN ACTING ERRATICALLY WITH SPEED READOUTS VACILLATING AND THEN STICKING AT ABOUT 32 MPH, WHEN I AM OBVIOUSLY GOING AT LEAST 65 MPH. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND IS APPARENT IN MANY OTHER MONTE CARLOS ACCORDING TO OTHER CAR FORUMS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS THE WRONG SPEED. IT STARTED WITH JUST HIGHER SPEED AND NOW WILL DISPLAY 20-30 MPH WHEN TRAVELING ON EXPRESSWAY WHEN GOING 65. SOMETIMES THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAN BE RESET BY TURNING OFF AND ON THE IGNITION TO RESET. NOW EVEN THAT IS NOT WORKING. I TOOK TO DEALER TODAY AND THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR OVER $537 ++. THE CHEVY DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS. THIS STARTED AROUND 60K MILES. *TR
THE WHOLE DASH CLUSTER ON MY 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO DOES NOT WORK. AT FIRST THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS SHOWING RED WHEN MY CAR WAS PERFECTLY FINE, THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT (IT DOESN'T EVEN MOVE) FOLLOWED BY THE FUEL INDICATOR GAUGE. IT HASN'T BEEN WORKING FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW. ITS HARD TO TELL WHEN I NEED TO FUEL MY CAR UP, WHEN IT MAY BE RUNNING HOT, OR HOW FAST I'M GOING. *TR
PURCHASED A 2005 MONTE CARLO ON SEPT 22ND FROM MITSUBISHI MOTORS AT 90160 HICKMAN RD DES MOINES, IA, 50325. IT WAS WITH IN A FEW DAYS (APPROXIMATELY FRIDAY SEPT 26TH) THAT THE SPEEDOMETER STUCK AT ZERO AND DID NOT MOVE UNTIL THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF. THE CAR ALSO WAS SHIFTING HARD AND MAKING A NOISE CALLED MITSUBISHI AND TOOK THE CAR INTO BE LOOKED AT. I ONLY TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON ABOUT THE SHIFTING NOISE BUT TOLD THE TECH ABOUT THE SPEEDOMETER STICKING AT ZERO. THE SERVICE PEOPLE SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT NOISE AND THE SPEEDOMETER DID NOT STICK FOR THE TECH. THE SPEEDOMETER KEPT STICKING AT ZERO AND A VIDEO WAS TAKEN OF IT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THAT IT IS ON ZERO AND THE CAR IS PASSING HOUSES. CALLED MITSUBISHI AND TRIED MANY TIMES TO EMAIL THE VIDEO TO THEM BUT THEIR EMAIL WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE VIDEO. TOOK THE VIDEO IN AND BO LAUGHED AT IT AND DID NOT REALLY SEEM TO CARE THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR, HE SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO GO TALK TO SOMEONE UP FRONT BUT NO ONE WAS THERE BECAUSE THEY WHERE ALL OVER AT THE NEW BUILDING. CALLED THE NEW BUILDING NOW IS DES MOINES IMPORTS AT 11400 NW 54TH AVE GRIMES, IOWA 50111AND TALKED TO A JESSICA AND TOLD HER ABOUT THE CAR AND HOW UPSET I AM AT THE WAY I HAVE BEEN TREATED BY MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP. JESSICA SAYS THAT BO IS NO LONGER EVEN WITH THEM AND THAT I SHOULD TALK TO ANDY AND SOME OTHER GUY FROM KIA. SO I TALK TO ANDY AND TOLD HIM WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT. WE DROP THE CAR OFF AND HEAR NOTHING FROM THEM ALL DAY AND IT?S GETTING LATE IN THE DAY AFTER 5PM, SO I HAVE TO CALL THEM TO ASK WHAT IS GOING ON. THEY COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO DO IT AND THEY WANT TO KEEP IT ANOTHER DAY, THEY DROVE IT TWICE ALREADY. NEXT DAY I HEAR NOTHING AND HAVE TO CALL AGAIN WE CAN'T BE WITH OUT THE CAR AND THEY CAN'T GET IT TO DO IT. I HAVE A LOT MORE DETAIL AND THEY ONLY WANT TO PAY 100.00 TOWARDS BILL. I DON'T FEEL THIS IS MY BILL. *TR
MONTE CARLO HAS 33,000 MILES AND SPEEDOMETER NO LONGER PROVIDES ACCURATE READING. REGISTERS 60 MPH AT STANDSTILL POSITION. ADVISED SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER IS SHOT AND I NEED A NEW ONE. APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AS MECHANIC IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE MODEL. WHY ISN'T THERE A FORCED RECALL? ISN'T THIS A HAZARD? *TR

FIRST OFF, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO INCORRECTLY MEASURE THE SPEED AND SLOWLY OVER 3 MONTHS IT STOPPED WORKING TOTALLY AND NOW DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. IN ADDITION AFTER BUYING THE CAR IT HAD A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN MAKING TURNS AT SLOW SPEED..I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND IT WASN'T FIXED EITHER TIME AND GAVE UP BECAUSE GM COULDN'T FIX IT AND WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME ONCE I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
THE TRACTION OFF AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AS WELL AS A SERVICE MESSAGE STATING TO SERVICE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. AFTER DEALER INSPECTION THE NOTED THAT ONE OF THE HUB BEARINGS CAUSED SOME KIND OF DAMAGE TO THE WIRING/SENSORS. *TR
2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO LT WITH 3.8L V6 DRIVING HOME AFTER WORK. THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THE LIGHTS WHERE ON DIM THE PARKING LIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS UNDER THE BUMPER REMAINED ON. I STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND USED THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH TO TURN ON THE HIGH BEAMS AND THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. AFTER SOME READING ON THE INTERNET I SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE MONTE CARLO, AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THEY BELIEVE THAT THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH MUST BE REPLACED. THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IS THE TURN SIGNAL STALK SWITCH THAT CONTROLS THE HIGH/LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHER FLUID. THE COST FOR ME IS OVER $300 IF I BUY THE PART AND INSTALL IT MY SELF. MY FIRST CONCERN IS THE OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE OF LOSING YOUR HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. MY SECOND CONCERN IS THIS APPEARS TO BE A SHORT IN THE SWITCH, IS THERE A RISK OF FIRE? I AM A CHEVY MAN, BUT WILL I BUY ANOTHER CHEVY???????????? *TR
2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO LT WITH 3.8L V6 DRIVING HOME A FEW HOURS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THE PARKING LIGHTS AND FOG LIGHTS UNDER THE BUMPER REMAINED ON. I STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND USED THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH TO TURN ON THE HIGH BEAMS AND THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE DEALER'S ATTENTION, AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THEY BELIEVE THAT THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH MUST BE REPLACED. THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IS THE TURN SIGNAL STALK SWITCH THAT CONTROLS THE HIGH/LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHER FLUID. THE DEALER REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. THE COST FOR ME TO HAVE THEM FIX IT IS OVER $600 MY FIRST CONCERN IS THE OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE OF LOSING YOUR HEADLIGHTS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. LUCKILY I WAS ON AN EMPTY ROAD AND THE FOG LIGHTS STAYED ON, HOWEVER I WAS STILL TRAVELING OVER 50MPH. MY SECOND CONCERN IS THIS APPEARS TO BE A SHORT IN THE SWITCH, IS THERE A RISK OF FIRE? *TR
TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON DASHBOARD APPEARED SERVICE REQUIRED/ TECHNICIAN FOUND A CRACK IN REAR RIGHT HUB ASSEMBLY. TECHNICIAN REPLACED HUB, RETESTED, AND IS OPERATIONAL AT THIS TIME. *TR

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GOES ERRATIC. 47K MILES. DEALER SAYS THEY GET A LOT OF THESE AND REPLACEMENT IS THE ONLY ANSWER. $550. EBAY HAS MULTIPLE BUSINESSES THAT REPAIR GM CLUSTERS. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? CHEVROLET DEALER SAYS NEW MODEL HAS IMPROVED GAUGE MOTORS. *TR
CONSUMER 2005 MONTE CARLO ENGINE FAILED AND TIRES WERE OUT OF BALANCE. *TS THE VEHICLE HAS A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END THAT AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BY TWO DEALERS, HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. ONE DEALER CLAIMED THE VIBRATION WAS DUE TO THE TIRES AND THE TYPE OF VEHICLE. THE OTHER DEALER FOUND A TIRE OUT OF BALANCE. AFTER TIRE WAS REBALANCED THE VIBRATION WAS STILL PRESENT. THE VEHICLE IS ALSO EXPERIENCING ENGINE PROBLEM NOW THAT THE WEATHER IS COLD. *NM
ABS/TRACTION LIGHT GOES ON AND THEN OFF. *NM
ODOMETER - NOT REGISTER CORRECT SPEEDS. STICKING ON HIGHER SPEEDS AND NOT RETURNING TO ZERO UPON STOP. COULD NOT RECOGNIZE WHAT SPEED VEHICLE WAS GOING AT. FAILED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, REQUIRED A NEW REPLACEMENT OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. *NM
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO, SUPERCHARGED SS, [XXX] SIGNATURE SERIES. THE VEHICLE HAS ACTIVE ONSTAR, XM RADIO, SUN ROOF AND THE REST OF THE BELLS AND WHISTLES CONNECTED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE XM RADIO AND ONSTAR SYSTEM. THE ANTENNA FOR ALL THE RADIO SYSTEMS ARE LOCATED ON THE REAR ROOF, BEHIND THE SUN ROOF. THE PROBLEM OCCURS WHENEVER YOU OPEN THE SUNROOF. THE SUNROOF TILTS UP AND COVERS THE ANTENNA. THIS CAUSES THE XM RADIO TO LOSE SIGNAL. THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS COMPLAIN IS THAT THE ONSTAR ALSO LOSES SIGNAL. THIS DEFEATS THE SAFETY FEATURE OF THE ONSTAR SYSTEM, BECAUSE IF YOU WERE IN AN ACCIDENT, THE ONSTAR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL WOULD NOT BE NOTIFIED AND THIS WOULD LEAD TO SEVERE INJURY AND POSSIBLY DEATH. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO RON ANDERSON CHEVROLET IN FERNANDINA BEACH, FL. THEY CONTACTED THEIR GM COMPLAINT DESK AND THE REPLY WAS "THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS. CLOSE THE SUNROOF PART WAY AND THAT WILL HELP RECEPTION FOR THE XM RADIO". THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF COMMUNICATION THAT I HAVE A COPY OF THAT INDICATED THE ABOVE, BUT SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE ONSTAR. WITH THE SUNROOF OPEN, THE ONSTAR CELLULAR PHONE DOES NOT WORK, NOT I AM ALMOST POSTIVE THAT THE EMERGENCY PORTION OF THE ONSTAR IS NOT WORKING EITHER. THE VIN # IS [XXX]. CHEVROLET'S POSTION INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION OR EVEN THAT THEY CARED. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS WHAT REALLY CONCERNS ME, BECAUSE THE MAIN REASON THAT I PURCHASED ONSTAR WAS THE FACT THAT YOU HAD COMMUNICATIONS, AND IF EMERGENCY CARE WAS NEEDED, IT WAS THERE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND GENERAL MOTORS, IN MY OPINION, COULD CARE LESS. THANKS FOR LISTENING TO ME AND I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU OR GENERAL MOTORS. SINCERELY. *NM UPDATED 07/17/2012 *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 3, 2014, that they are recalling 5,877,718 model year 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2005 Malibu Classic, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
