I bought this car and seen online there was a safety recall for the power steering/hoses malfunctioning. This cars power steering is non-existent and WILL NOT HOLD any power steering fluid. I'd like to file for the recall. This makes my car dangerous to drive. It's my only transportation. Thanks! CATASTROPHIC TIRE FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION - COOPER RESPONSE TOURING 205/55 R16 91H ON 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. TREAD DEPTH = 5/32, TIRES WERE NEW ON USED CAR PURCHASED IN 07/2014. NO DRY ROT OR VISIBLE CRACKING ON TIRES, 23K MILEAGE ON TIRES. IN 07/2018, TWO OF THE TIRES IN THE SET OF 4 WERE REPLACED DUE TO THE BEGINNINGS OF TREAD SEPARATION (WOULD NOT BALANCE). I AM A FORMER TIRE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER FOR A MAJOR US TIRE MANUFACTURER AND I HAVE ANALYZED HUNDREDS OF FAILED TIRES RETURNED TO THE MANUFACTURER. BASED ON MY ANALYSIS, I BELIEVE THAT THIS TIRE FAILED BY DELAMINATION OF THE TREAD DUE TO IMPROPER CONSTRUCTION OR CURING AND NOT DUE TO A TIRE PUNCTURE. SINCE 3 OF 4 OF THESE TIRES HAVE FAILED, I BELIEVE THAT THE ENTIRE BATCH MAY BE DEFECTIVE.

WHETHER IN MOTION OR STANDING STILL, TILT STEERING WHEEL CLAMPING MECHANISM HAS WORN THROUGH WIRES CONNECTED TO THE AIR BAG AND ITS WARNING SYSTEM, CREATING INTERMITTENT (SHORT?) FAILURE OF AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, PRESENTING POSSIBILITY OF SUDDEN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS OFF, HORN WILL NOT SOUND BUT VENTILATION FAN RUNS. WITH AIRBAG LIGHT ON, HORN WILL SOUND, BUT IF ACTIVATED, VENTILATION FAN STOPS RUNNING. MUST CONSTANTLY ADJUST STEERING WHEEEL TILT TO MAKE FAN RUN OR HONK HORN - CREATING A DISTRACTED DRIVING HAZARD.
TL-THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. FUEL ODOR, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FOR AN ADDITIONAL HOUR VEHICLE RESTARTED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE, FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE STARTED ALONG THE FIREWALL MANUFACTURER NOT CONTACTED, FIRE REPORT FILED, FIRE EXTINGUISHED BY FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT UPON START UP THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN RESTARTED ALMOST AN HOUR LATER. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED FIRE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE MARSHALL STATED THAT THE FIRE SEEMED TO HAVE ORIGINATED IN A WIRING HARNESS INSTALLED BEHIND THE FUEL LINES FOR THE FUEL INJECTORS. THERE WAS NO INJURIES SUSTAINED IN THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE RESIDENCE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A HOLE WAS MADE IN THE POWER STEERING LINE. ALL THE FLUID DUMPED OUT. I WAS DRIVING FORWARD AND SUDDENLY IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE LINE SHOULD NOT BE RUN LIKE THAT. I ATTEMPTED TO PUT IN MORE FLUID AND IT ALL JUST POURED RIGHT OUT!

DRIVERS SIDE REAR QUARTER WINDOW CAME OFF WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY.
PURGE CONTROL VALVE IS FAULTY, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL AFTER FUELING. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. THIS OCCURS BOTH AT THE PUMP IMMEDIATELY AFTER FUELING AS WELL AS WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION, PULLING INTO TRAFFIC FROM THE FUEL STATION. THE LATTER HAS CAUSED SAFETY HAZARDS & NEAR-ACCIDENTS COUNTLESS TIMES.

REAR QUARTER WINDOW IS POPPING OUT, IT IS LEAKING AND HAS A GAP ALIGN THE TOP I HAVE DUCT TAPED IT IN PLACE TO PREVENT IT FROM COMING OUT
THERE IS A CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURN TO EITHER SIDE. I HAD THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH REPLACE TWICE AND THE RACK AND PINION REPLACE AND THE CAR STILL MAKES A CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURN. DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE PART AND AN INDIVIDUAL MECHANIC HAS REPLACE THE SAME SWITCH. TO NO AVIL , I'M HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM IN GENERAL IS FAULTY. WE HAVE PAID TO FIX THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH & THE HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSE & NOW THE PUMP ITSELF HAS GONE OUT. IN JULY 2014 NOTICED BACK WINDOW ON PASSENGER WAS LOOSE, WINDOW FELL OUT WHILE DRIVING 11 2014... HAD TIMES WHEN CAR WAS ACTING LIKE IT WASN'T GETTING GAS WHILE DRIVING AND CHECK ENG. LIGHT CAME ON BUT WOULD GO OUT AFTER IT QUIT. FINALLY MADE IT TO AN AUTO REPAIR TO HAVE IT SCANNED AND PART REPLACED AFTER 9 MOS. SETTING. RAN GOOD FOR ONE WEEK THEN STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN DOING THE SAME THING. IN AUGUST OF 2015 I WAS APPROACHING MY HOME GOING DOWN A BIG HILL ON MY RD. WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 45 MPH WITH A SEMI RIGHT BEHIND ME. THE CARS SPEED WAS 45 THENWENT DOWN TO 20 IN A MATTER OF SECONDS FAST ENOUGH FOR THE TIRES TO SQUEAL. I HAD MY 2 YR. OLD GRANDSON IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I KNEW I COULDN'T MAKE IT IN MY DRIVEWAY SO I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON MY 4WAYS AND PULLED IN MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET SO I DIDN'T GET RAN OVER BY THE SEMI TRUCK. ALSO WHEN I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED IN JUNE OF 1915 THE STEERING IN THE CAR WAS REAL STIFF AND STILL IS ONLY WHEN TURNING BUT HAS POWER STEERING FLUID. BOUGHT MY OWN SCANNER AND IT SAYS I NOW NEED TO REPLACE A TRANS. CONTROL UNIT PART # P0700 ALONG WITH THE PART THAT WAS JUST REPLACED. I'M AT WITS END, WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS ON ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS . DRIVING DOWN RESIDENTIAL STREET AND AN SUV ACCELERATED FROM DRIVEWAY OR SIDE OF ROAD WITHOUT LOOKING AND CRUSHED THE PASSENGER DOOR AND PANEL. PASSENGER HAD TO BE EXTRICATED AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
CAR INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT START. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED SO MANY TIMES THAT THE INSURANCE RATE WENT UP AND WE PAID FOR REPAIRS THAT WE DID NOT NEED BECAUSE IT NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. REPAIRS INCLUDE (BATTERY, STARTER, IGNITION, SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES) WE NOW BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE TIPM. THE OTHER PROBLEMS WE ENCOUNTERED ARE WINDOW WON'T GO UP OR DOWN. DEALERSHIPS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM SO THEY CONTINUE TO CHARGE US FOR UNNECCESARY REPAIRS.
DASHBOARD LIGHTS GO OUT AT WILL AND ENGINE LIGHTS SHOW CODES EVEN AFTER REPLACING SENSORS NOW 02 SENSORS NOT WORKING .LOOK LIKE THIS HAD BEEN A ONGOING PROBLEM FOR YEARS NOW AND CHRYSLER FAILS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP MYSELF AND OTHER PT DRIVERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
CAR WENT COMPLETELY DEAD AT CAR WASH AT NIGHT LEAVING ME AND MY YOUNG GRANDDAUGHTER STRANDED UNTIL WE COULD GET A JUMP. THIS HAS LEFT ME STRANDED WITH SMALL CHILDREN FORCING RELIANCE UPON STRANGERS IN ORDER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. NOW THE FOG LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE UNTIL A FIX CAN BE FOUND, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A POTENTIAL COLLISION IF DRIVING IN FOGGY CONDITIONS WHICH COULD PROVE FATAL DUE TO IT BEING A CONVERTIBLE. G01 FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND I WAS TOLD BY THE CHRYSLER REP THAT THE WINDOWS ON THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING FOR ME. THE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY OR THE WINDOW WOULD HAVE NOT SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE, AS VEHICLES SHOULD NOT HAVE WINDOWS FALLING OUT OF THEM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 3 MONTHS BACK. I WAS DRIVING FROM VEGAS BACK HOME TO LOS ANGELES ON THE I-15 FREEWAY. I WAS ON THE FAR LEFT SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND JUST TOUCHED THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT WAS ROCK HARD. IT JUST WOULDN'T PRESS DOWN. I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO NOT GET INTO A COLLISION AT THAT SPEED AND MOVED OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER, WAITED FOR THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN STARTED PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES SLOWLY. THE REPAIR GUY WHO FIXED THE CAR SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THE MANIFOLD FROM WHERE THE PIPES ARE CONNECTED TO THE BRAKES HAS A METAL ELBOW THAT CONNECTS THE PIPES TO THE MANIFOLD. THAT METAL ELBOW FELL OFF AND HE TRIED SETTING IT BACK ON BUT IT JUST WOULDN'T STAY. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT SINCE THE METAL ELBOWS COMES WITH THE MANIFOLD AND THAT IS MADE AT THE CHRYSLER FACTORY. THEY SAID IT WAS THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR, MY FATHER CONTACTED THE LOCAL SERVICE STATION AND THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TIMING CHAIN AS WELL. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER CARE SERVICE HAS AUTHORIZED THE NAPLETON DEALERSHIP IN LAKE PARK, FLORIDA, TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT TWICE: ONCE IN SEPTEMBER 2012, AND MOST RECENTLY IN MAY 2014. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERFORMS THE SAME REPLACEMENT OF THE HARNESS BUCKLE APPARATUS EACH TIME, BUT THAT IS CLEARLY NOT THE UNDERLYING REASON THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AFTER EVERY ATTEMPT TO FIX IT. AFTER THE FOURTH ATTEMPT TO FIX IT FAILED BY A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP IN TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY WITH THE ENTIRE WIRING SYSTEM OF THE CAR, BUT DURING THE 5TH AND 6TH ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE AIR BAG LIGHT, THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT SEEM WILLING TO LOOK INTO THIS AND ENDED DOING THE EXACT SAME REPAIR THAT HAS BEEN ATTEMPTED FOR 7 YEARS. OCCASIONALLY THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL WORK NORMALLY; ISSUE SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO WHETHER THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED, OR OCCUPIED AFTER THE ENGINE IS STARTED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM FRED BEANS, BOYERTOWN, PA ON 8/1/13 WITH APPROX. 78K MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, SLOWING DOWN FOR A TRAFFIC, WHEN MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THEN BEGAN TO HESITATE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PICK UP SPEED. THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AND IT APPEARED THE CAR WOULD STALL. IT NEVER STALLED BUT I DID PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF, STARTED IT AGAIN AND AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY FOR A FEW MILES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND THE CAR HESITATED AGAIN. THIS WAS LOOKED AT AND DETERMINED, SINCE THERE WAS NO OTHER OCCURRENCE, TO BE A "GLITCH" AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS RESET BY THE GARAGE (NO CHARGE AND NO DIAGNOSTICS). IN JANUARY THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AND THE GARAGE REPLACED THE CAM SENSOR. SHORTLY AFTER THAT THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND THE SENSOR WAS AGAIN REPLACED. IT IS NOW APRIL AND AGAIN THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING, ALL OF THESE INCIDENCES WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING AN UNNECESSARY SLOW DOWN WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION. I'VE SPOKEN WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHO REFERRED ME TO THE ORIGINAL SHOP THAT REPLACED THE SENSOR (SCOOTY'S, PENNSBURG, PA) AND TO AUTO ZONE WHO SOLD ME THE NEXT SENSOR. REPAIR IS QUITE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE CHRYSLER HAS CHANGED THE STYLING OF THE PART AND IT HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH THE NEW PART. THE NEW PART I WAS TOLD WOULD BE BEING PUT IN THE PLACE WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN THE FIRST PLACE TO BE SAFER FROM THE TYPES OF DAMAGES I GOT. SHOULD BE A RECALL COVERED REPAIR. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS IN ONLINE FORUMS FROM PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND BRAKE WEAR HAS BEEN REPORTED DUE TO FRONT WHEEL BEARING ISSUES. WHEN REPLACING FRONT BRAKE PADS ON MY 2005 PT CRUISER, TURBO, I NOTICED ONE FRONT ROTOR HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR, SO I NEEDED TO PURCHASE TWO NEW ROTORS. I WENT TO O'REILLY'S AUTO PARTS STORE, AND THEY HAD EVERYTHING IN STOCK. AFTER REPLACING ONE ROTOR, I ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE BRAKE PADS INTO THE BRAKE PAD BRACKET, BUT THEY WOULDN'T GO OVER THE NEW ROTOR. AFTER COMPARING THE OLD ROTORS TO THE NEW ONES, I NOTICED THE NEW ONES WERE MUCH THICKER THAT THE OLD ROTORS. I WENT BACK TO O' REILLY'S WITH BOTH SET OF ROTORS THINKING THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG ROTORS. AT O' REILLY'S AFTER LOOKING THROUGH THIER MANUALS, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ROTORS THEY GAVE ME ARE THE CORRECT ROTORS. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT COMES OUT THAT MY 2005 TURBO PT CRUISER HAS NON- TURBO BRAKE PARTS ON IT. THE ROTORS, PADS, AND BRAKE PAD BRACKETS ARE FOR A STANDARD CRUISER. I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD BE NOTIFIED, AND INSTALL THE ALL THE CORRECT BRAKE PARTS THAT BELONG ON MY PT TURBO.
I AM SO UNHAPPY WITH THIS CAR, IT HAS GIVEN ME NOTHING BUT HEADACHES. I HAVE HAD FRONT END BEARING PROBLEMS TO ELECTRICAL, BUT THE WORST PROBLEM IS THE ONE I HAVE RIGHT NOW. MY CAR IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AS WE SPEAK, AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT CHRYSLER MAY NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS VARIOUS LEAKS,THE OIL HAS LEAKED INTO THE SPARK PLUGS, AND OTHER AREAS THAT THEY ARE NOT CERTAIN OFF, THEY SUGGESTED ONE IS COMING FROM THE HEAD GASKET A PART OF THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEMS STARTED ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, FIRST IT WANTED TO STOP ON ME AT EVERY LIGHT, SECOND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON, THIRD THE OIL LIGHT. I WOULD TAKE IT TO MECHANICS AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, IT WAS GETTING WORSE AND I WOULD REPLACE PARTS THAT WERE GOING BAD, BUT STILL THE PROBLEM WAS THERE. WHEN I WENT TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME WE CAN'T SEE THE PROBLEM, BUT I TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT LEAVE UNTIL THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM. I AM WAITING THE STATUS ON THIS MATTER FROM CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY. I SUGGEST YOU RECALL THIS CAR, IT HAS SOME SERIOUS ISSUES RELATING TO THE ENGINE, MY PERSPECTIVE OF THIS VEHICLE IS THE LIFE SPAN LASTS 70,000,MILE BECAUSE THE PROBLEMS.GET WORSE. *TR
IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR LIGHTS WERE NOT ON WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS(SAME BULBS) WERE NOT WORKING. UPON INVESTIGATION, BOTH LIGHT BULBS HAD BURST. WHEN TAKING IT TO THE PARTS STORE, THEY FELT THAT THE BULBS HAD BROKEN BECAUSE WATER HAD GOTTEN INTO THE HOUSING WITH THE BULBS. THE HOUSING WAS NOT CRACKED, SO IT WAS NOT DUE TO AN ACCIDENT. AND THE BULBS ON BOTH SIDES HAD FAILED SIMILARLY WHICH WOULD INDICATE A COMMON CAUSE WHICH WOULD SEEM TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. RECENTLY, I NOTICED A PUDDLE OF OIL FORMING UNDER MY CAR WHEN IT WAS PARKED BRIEFLY. A CHECK OF OIL SHOWED THAT IT WAS SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL, BUT WELL WITHIN RANGE. TOPPED UP OIL AND STARTED ENGINE, AND STEADY STREAM OF OIL WAS SEEN TO BE COMING FROM CRANK OIL SEAL. THE DAY BEFORE THIS CAR DID NOT DRIP A DROP OF OIL. MECHANIC FOUND SEAL WAS IN TACT, BUT COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM ENGINE. HAD SEAL REPLACED BY CERTIFIED MECHANIC, AND IN LESS THAN 15 MILES THE OIL LEAK RETURNED. AFTER SEEING MULTIPLE SIMILAR ACCOUNTS ON INTERNET, HAD THE MECHANIC OPEN THE ENGINE AND FOUND THE CRANK END PLAY TO BE WELL OVER .020" AND THE THRUST BEARING WIPED ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO THE CRANK THRUST FACE. ODDLY CHRYSLER SEEMS TO ONLY INSTALL THE THRUST BEARING ON ONLY THE TOP HALF IN THIS DESIGN. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE THRUST BEARING FAILS, THE CRANKSHAFT THEN WALKS INTO THE BACK OF THE SEAL AND KNOCKS IT OUT. FORTUNATELY, I NOTICED THE PUDDLE, BEFORE THIS FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS COULD HAVE EMPTIED THE OIL IN MINUTES AND SEIZED UP THE ENGINE AT SPEED. THIS IS CLEARLY A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW THAT CHRYSLER IS AVOIDING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR. NO ENGINE SHOULD HAVE THIS SORT OF FAILURE IN THE 21ST CENTURY! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, AN ABNORMAL SMELLED A PLASTIC ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL LINE/PRESSURE REGULATOR ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME BECAUSE THE PRESSURE REGULATOR LEAKS, SPRAYING GAS ON THE FIREWALL. INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL PART, THIS IS NOW THE FOURTH ASSEMBLY IN THIS VEHICLE. WE HAVE HAD THE SERVICE PERFORMED AT AN INDEPENDENT FACILITY, NOT CHRYSLER, BUT THE PARTS HAVE BEEN PURCHASED FORM CHRYSLER. MY SERVICE TECH SAYS HE REPLACES 50 OR 60 OF THESE PER YEAR. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. WHEN THE ASSEMBLY FAILS, THE ODOR OF GAS PERMEATES THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND IS VERY STRONG OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 55000 MILES ON IT AND THE FIRST REPLACEMENT WAS AT ABOUT 40000 MILES. *TR

OVERALL, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS WHILE AT THESE DEALERSHIPS. MCKINNEY'S ATTEMPT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY. BIG O AND BENSON'S ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE WARRANTY (FROM TIME, NOT MILEAGE), AS A FOLLOW UP TO A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. MEANWHILE, BETWEEN ATTEMPTED FIXES THE VEHICLE POSES A SAFETY HAZARD, ACTUALLY PUTTING CHRYSLER AT A LIABILITY RISK. A STALLING VEHICLE IN HEAVY, FAST MOVING TRAFFIC HAS A HIGH POTENTIAL OF CREATING AN ACCIDENT, AN INJURY, OR EVEN A DEATH. THE RIMS WERE CLEANED BUT THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT AIR WOULD CONTINUE TO ESCAPE FROM THE RIM AND CAUSE THE TIRE TO GO FLAT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

NEITHER DEALERS FIXED THE PROBLEM.THE LAST TIME WE PAID A SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALMOST $100 TO JUST RIDE AROUND WITH US TO SEE IF VEHICLE WOULD STOP. AGAIN NOTHING WAS DONE. AFTER FINALLY BRINGING THE CAR BACK 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WITHIN A 12 WEEK PERIOD, THEY TOLD US TO CONTACT THE CORPORATE DIVISION AT CHRYSLER BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT SERVICE OUR VEHICLE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS IN SEPTEMBER 2011( WHICH PUT OTHERS LIFE IN DANGER) WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 MILES/HR. THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF, AGAIN WITHOUT ANY WARNING. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON A REGULAR BASIS, FOR FEAR OF RISKING THE LIVES OF OTHERS AND OURSELVES. I PURCHASED A 2005 PT CRUISER IN JUNE 2008. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WOULD SHAKE ONCE I TURNED ON MY AC. FLASH FORWARD TO NOVEMBER 2010, ON MY WAY TO WORK OUT OF NO WHERE MY CAR STARTED PUTTING AND MY ENGINE WAS SHAKING AS IF MY CAR WAS ABOUT TO EXPLODE. AGAIN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE SAME THING... TUNE UP. CLEARLY THIS WAS NOT THE CASE, HOWEVER I HAD MY GASKETS CHANGED TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE ISSUE...NEGATIVE. SO I DECIDED TO GOOGLE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS MYSELF JUST TO SEE IF I MISSED A RECALL OR IF THIS IS A PROBLEM. T O MY SURPRISE I FOUND SEVERAL FORUMS SPECIFICALLLY FOR TEH CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. TO TOP THE CAKE THEIR ISSUES WAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I WAS HAVING WITH MY CAR. ENGINE SHAKING, CAR PUTTING, AND THE CAR CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING! I CALLED CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL AND I WAS SO BAFFELED THAT THERE WAS NOT. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND I'M VERY DISSAPOINTED THAT CHRYLSER IS IGNORING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE MATTER! THIS CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT. LEFT WORK TO FIND THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. GOT IT JUMPED AND WENT HOME. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY, I NOTICED THAT THE FOG LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINED ON. I CHECKED THE LIGHTS AND FOUND THAT THEY WERE STILL ON. I TURNED THE LIGHTS ON, SIGNALED LEFT AND RIGHT, JIGGLED IT AROUND AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT FINALLY WENT OFF. AFTER A COUPLE MORE OCCASIONS OF BATTERY DYING (AT THIS POINT THE FOG LIGHT RANDOMLY STAYED ON) EVENTUALLY I FIGURED OUT THAT IF I LEFT THE LIGHT CONTROLLED IN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL POSITION WHEN I TURNED OFF THE CAR THE FOGS WOULD TURN OFF. THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD TURN OFF. AT SOME POINT WE REPLACED THE FUSE, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO OCCUR OFF AND ON. OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE OCCURRED AS WELL. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS NO LONGER GO UP OR DOWN. THIS IS ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC BECAUSE IT IS A CONVERTIBLE AND THE WINDOWS MOVE UP AND DOWN AN INCH OR SO WHENEVER THE DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED IN ORDER TO SEAL SHUT. RAIN COMES INTO THE GAP BETWEEN THE WINDOW AND ROOF BECAUSE THE WINDOW NO LONGER SEALS SHUT. I HAVEN'T EVEN TRIED TO PUT THE TOP DOWN IN A COUPLE YEARS FOR FEAR THAT I WILL NOT GO BACK UP, SO I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THAT WORKS. LIVING IN THE CITY OF ATLANTA, I AM REQUIRED TO GET AN EMISSIONS TEST DONE EACH YEAR IN ORDER TO RENEW MY REGISTRATION. DUE TO THE BATTERY DYING, I FAILED THE EMISSIONS TEST BECAUSE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH MILEAGE TO SHOW NECESSARY DATA. I TRULY REGRET THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR! *TR
TOOK 2005 PT CONVERTIBLE FOR OIL CHANGE, MECHANIC INFORMED ME I WAS VERY LOW ON POWER STEERING FLUID, HE REFILLED IT. GRADUALLY BEGAN NOTICING WHINING/GROANING SOUND WHEN TURNING, THE TIGHTER THE TURN THE WORSE THE SOUND. SOUND INCREASINGLY BECAME MORE FREQUENT. RETURNED TO MECHANIC (A DIFFERENT ONE) AND HE SAID I WAS OUT OF STEERING FLUID. I INFORMED HIM THAT IT HAD BEEN FILLED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. GOING FROM MEMORY HERE...HE CHECKED FOR LEAK AND FOUND NONE, AND REFILLED. PROBLEM CONTINUED TO INCREASE UNTIL THE POWER STEERING STOPPED COMPLETELY AND I COULD BARELY TURN THE CAR. RETURNED TO PREVIOUS MECHANIC TO FIND THAT THE HOSE HAD POPPED OFF. HE REATTACHED. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER WHEN TURNING LEFT I HEARD AN ODD SOUND, CAN'T REALLY DESCRIBE. WITHIN A WEEK THE GROANING WAS BACK, HOSE HAD POPPED OFF AGAIN, AND FLUID RAN OUT IN A MATTER OF DAYS. THE MECHANIC AGAIN REATTACHED AND SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY THE EQUIPMENT IS ARRANGED UNDER THE HOOD, CAUSES SOMETHING TO RUB AGAINST THE POWER STEERING HOSE, CAUSING IT TO DETACH. THIS ORDEAL WAS REPEATED 3 TIMES WITHIN ABOUT A YEAR. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PIN DOWN THE TYPE OF MOVEMENT THAT CAUSED THE HOSE TO COME OFF...TURNING LEFT WHILE AT AN INCLINE OR DECLINE. THROUGH-OUT ALL THIS (I AM NOT GOOD WITH CARS AND AM A GIRL) I ENDED UP NEEDING TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. I WISH I HAD THOUGHT TO CHECK INTO THIS SOONER AS I SEE THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. *TR
THE CAR SITS TOO LOW TO THE GROUND. I AM A CAUTIOUS DRIVER, BUT THE BUMPER TOO EASILY SCRAPES WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS OR SLIGHTLY STEEP INCLINES/DECLINES, AS WELL AS WHEN PARKING, TOO EASILY TO SCRAPE OVER CURBS. THIS HAS CAUSED THE BUMPER TO CRACK ON THE LEFT SIDE, OVER THE HEAD LIGHT, COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE CAR IN ALONG A 6 INCH LINE. THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX WITHOUT REPLACING THE WHOLE BUMPER/GRILL COVER. I AM IN CONSTANT FEAR OF THE BUMPER FALLING OFF AS I STRUGGLE TO SAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO REPLACE. WE OWN A 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FOR THE PAST YEAR WITH THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH LOCATED ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FOG LIGHTS COME ON BY THEMSELVES AND WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY DEAD. THERE MUST BE A SHORT IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. WE TURN OUR LEFT BLINKER ON BEFORE WE SHUT OFF THE IGNITION AND THIS SEEMS TO KEEP THE FOG LIGHTS OFF. WITH THIS BEING A SHORT, IT COULD RESULT IN A FIRE WHICH MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING - RESULTING IN POSSIBLE DEATH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

DECEMBER 2009 MY TIMING BELT WENT OUT ON INTERSTATE. I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH. I HAD IT REPAIRED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHICH INCLUDED A NEW WATER PUMP. FEBRUARY 2010: I HAD TO HAVE VALVES SEALS REPAIRED DUE TO THEM LEAKING OIL ONTO THE ENGINE WHICH WAS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THIS WAS DONE BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. APRIL 2010: I CONTINUED TO HAVE OVERHEATING ISSUES. I WAS ALSO NOW HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHERE MY TAILLIGHTS WERE CONTINUOUSLY BLOWING THE BULBS COMPLETELY OUT, TO WHERE THE BULBS WOULD BE BROKEN AND I WOULD HAVE NO LIGHTS AT ALL ON THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE, THERE WERE TIMES THIS WOULD OCCUR AT NIGHT WHICH WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. MAY 2010: I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE BACK TO CHRYSLER DEALER; AGAIN NOTHING COULD BE RESOLVED. JUNE 2010: BROUGHT THE CAR BACK FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE ALL DAY. THE DEALER CONCLUDED THAT THE COOLER SENSOR AND SENSOR PLUG NEEDED REPLACED, AND TAIL LIGHT RECEPTORS WERE CHANGED OUT. JUNE 2010: ALTERNATOR WENT OUT AND IT WAS REPLACED, AND ALSO INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY. WHEN TRAVELING I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL ON 55. THE CRUISE CONTROL TOOK OVER MY ACCELERATION AND IN NO MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 115+ MPH, I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK, THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I FINALLY PULLED THE E-BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR, AND HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, THEN INTO PARK. IT WAS NOT UNTIL I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR INTO PARK THAT THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING BY ITSELF. I HAVE A 2005 TOURING EDITION PT CRUISER AND IT HAS BEEN A HEADACHE FOR THE LAST 21 MONTHS. IN SPRING 2009, AFTER HAVING THE CAR ONLY 2 YEARS, IT STARTING LEAKING OIL SO I TOOK INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THE OIL PAN GASKET WAS LOOSE. THEY FIXED IT IN A DAY AND IT RAN FINE, THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER, IN AUGUST, IT STARTED LEAKING AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID THE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE SO THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CAM SEALS, FRONT CRANK SEAL AND THE OIL PAN GASKET. I GOT IT BACK A WEEK LATER AND WAS TOLD THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR THE BRAKES AND THE MECHANIC SAID HE'D NEVER SEEN ROTORS WEAR THAT FAST BEFORE. IT RAN PRETTY GOOD UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2009 WHEN IT STARTED LEAKING OIL AGAIN, TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SHORT BLOCK, GASKETS FOR THE UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE, TIMING BELT COVER, CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET, AND ALL THE FLUIDS IN THE CAR. THEY DIDN'T CHARGE FOR FIXING THIS TIME BECAUSE THE SAID IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. ANOTHER WEEK IN THE SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS IN RUNNING CONDITION AGAIN. IN MAY 2010 ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF TIRE ROT AND THE SPARE DIDN'T LOOK THAT MUCH BETTER THEN THE TIRES. LATER THE SAME MONTH THE CAR STARTED MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE NEED SLOWING TO STOP AND STARTING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN, THE STARTER AND FLEXPLATE NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS IN SHOP A WEEK, WENT TO PICK IT UP AND WAS INFORMED THAT ONE OF THE MOTOR MOUNT BOLTS WAS BROKEN. IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE MOTOR MOUNT ITSELF. THEY ALSO SAID THEY DEEMED THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD NOT TEST DRIVE IT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS RUNNING CORRECTLY. I TOOK THE CAR HOME, TWO DAYS LATER AS I WAS DRIVING HOME THE GAS PEDAL BROKE. WHEN THE MECHANIC RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED, ALL OF THE OIL LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND. THE MECHANIC THEN CALLED HER TO SAY THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE ENGINE PUMP. SHE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO INSTRUCT THE MECHANIC TO INSPECT THE THRUST BEARINGS. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE THRUST BEARINGS WERE DEFECTIVE. IN 2006 I PURCHASED A 2005 PT CRUISER WITH 12000 MILES, IT RAN GREAT UNTIL MAY,2009 WITH APPROX. 28000 MILES, WHEN IT STARTED SPITTERING AND SPUTTERING UPON ACCELERATION AND WOULD NOT EXCEED A SPEED OF 25 FOR 15 TO 25 SECONDS, SOMETIMES LONGER. THIS IS A PART THAT SUPPOSEDLY SHOULD GET AT LEAST 85K WORTH OF USE BEFORE REPLACEMENT AND IS PART OF A COMPLETELY SEALED SYSTEM IN THE PT, SO THIS IS A RATHER DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE ($400) REPAIR FOR SUCH A "YOUNG" CAR.*CN

ONCE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN WITH THE HANDLE OR THE DOOR LATCH. MY 2005 PT CRUISER STARTED MAKING NOTICEABLE NOISES FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE. THE DEALER HAS NOW TOLD US THAT THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL MILEAGE, BUT I BELIEVE THAT IT IS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. THERE IS A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT ON THE NHTSA DATABASE FOR THE SAME MODEL YEAR, FOR THE SAME FRONT BEARING ISSUE, BUT I DID NOT CHECK OTHER YEARS. 05 PT CRUISER HAS HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE FEB 05 (BOUGHT NEW.) THE FIRST TIME I FILLED UP, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. REFERRING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL, I RESTARTED THE CAR A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. AT THE FIRST OIL CHANGE, I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE GAS CAP WAS PROBABLY LOOSE. OK -- MAYBE. THEY RE-SET THE COMPUTER AND DOWNLOADED A SOFTWARE UPDATE FROM CHRYSLER. WITHIN 3 DAYS, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TOOK IT IN & RESET AND WAS TOLD AGAIN IT WAS PROBABLY THE CAP. NOT -- I MADE SURE THE CAP WAS TIGHT AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT. OVER THE NEXT YEAR, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS COME ON AT LEAST ONCE BETWEEN EACH OIL CHANGE. SOME TIMES IT STAYS ON THE ENTIRE TIME, SOMETIMES IT COMES ON AND GOES OFF TWO OR THREE TIMES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS (2 DIFFERENT DEALERS) CAN FIND NO STORED CODE, NOR CAN THEY REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY -SET THE COMPUTER EACH TIME. I'VE ALSO HAD BOTH THE REAR WINDOWS OPEN WITHOUT NOTICE SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. ONCE, THE PASSENGER-SIDE REAR WINDOW STAYED OPEN FOR NEARLY 40 MIN BEFORE CLOSING ON ITS OWN. USUALLY HAPPENS UPON FIRST STARTING THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THE ENTIRE RACK & PINION HAS BEEN REPLACED BECAUSE OF A FAILED SENSOR EARLIER THIS YEAR. 3 MONTHS AGO, THE CAR STARTED STALLING WITHIN 5 MILES OF STARTING. SOMETIMES, THE ENTIRE MOTOR SHUTS DOWN; SOMETIMES I JUST LOOSE 1000-1500 RPMS. AFTER POPPING THE CLUTCH, THE ENGINE IS FINE FOR HOWEVER LONG I WANT TO DRIVE. AGAIN, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS MONTH (10-07) A 3RD DEALER REPLACED THE O2 SENSOR AND A NEW FACTORY SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD, AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR A WEEK. THE CAR SEEMED TO RUN MUCH BETTER FOR 10 DAYS, THEN THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SO FAR, IT HASN'T STALLED AGAIN. I'LL TAKE IT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE & HAVE THE COMPUTER RE-SET THIS WEEK. I OWN A 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER WITH 40,000 MILES ON IT. THE WARRANTY IS UP AND I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE FRONT AXLE BEARING IS SHOT. MY MECHANIC WAS VERY SHOCKED TO DISCOVER THIS ON SUCH A NEW CAR AND SAID IT WAS VERY UNSAFE. CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS FAULTY BECAUSE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSING INJURIES TO HIMSELF AND TWO OTHER PASSENGERS. *KB THE CONSUMERS 2 CHILDREN WERE INJURED DUE TO THE SEAT BELT IMPACT. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE 2005 PT CRUISER FOR THE BACK WINDOWS. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE SO THAT THEY COULD HAVE THE PARTS THERE. WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALER- LEN STOLLER IN WESTMINSTER, MD IT TOOK THEM AN HOUR OF ME SITTING AROUND TO TELL ME THAT THEY DID HAVE THE PARTS. THIS REALLY SUCKEED. *AK

SINCE NEW, FEB. 2005, MY 2005 PT CRUISER SHAKES AND STUMBLES AT IDLE. AT 180 MILES, THE ENGINE STOPPED IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR RESTARTED, BUT IT RAN EXTREMELY ROUGH. THE DEALER REPLACED A CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE ENGINE HASN'T DIED SINCE, BUT I STILL EXPERIENCE ROUGH IDLE AND STUMBLE ON ACCELERATION. MY 2005 PT CRUISER IS EQUIPPED WITH ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND A TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. DURING A RECENT SNOW STORM THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR BOTH OF THESE SYSTMES ILLUMINATED. I HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER, WHO HAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTS CAME ON BECAUSE THESE SYSTEMS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. THE REASON FOR THIS, THEY BELIEVE, IS THAT SNOW HAD COLLECTED IN THE WHEELS. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THEIR POSISTION IS THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS PROVIDED ON THIS CAR WILL FUNCTION EXCEPT DURING A SNOW STORM WITH WET, STICK, SLIPPERY SNOW. IS THIS TYPICAL OF THESE TYPES OF SYSTEMS? IT MAKES NO SENSE TO ME THAT CAR COMPANIES BE ALLOWED TO PROVIDE SAFETYSYSTEMS WHICH DON'T WORK WHEN THEY ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE NEEDED. ROLLING DOWN THE BACK PASSENGER WINDOW ON MY 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE 2-DR WHILE THE FRONT WINDOW IS UP CAUSES THE INSULATING STRIP BETWEEN THE WINDOWS TO SLIDE OFF THE BACK WINDOW AND STICK IN THE WINDOW MOUNT. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO EVALUATE THE PROBLEM, AND THEY SAID THE WINDOWS WERE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT WHICH CAUSED THE SEAL TO STICK, AND SUGGESTED IF I DIDN'T WANT TO PAY $500.00 TO FIX IT I COULD PUT ADHESIVE ON IT. I HAVE A FEAR IF MY CHILDREN SHUT THE DOOR HARD THE FRONT WINDOW WILL BREAK FROM SLAMMING AGAINST THE EXPOSED METAL ON THE SIDE OF THE BACK WINDOW. *JB

LEASED A 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE, DREAM CRUISER SERIES 4 IN NOVEMBER OF 2004. FIRST FAILURE OF THE TIRES WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE IN AUGUST 2006. I WAS PARKED SOMEWHERE WAITING FOR SOMEONE AND WHEN THEY WALKED BACK TO MY CAR THEY NOTICED THAT I HAD A BULGE IN THE TIRE DUE TO A CRACK IN THE SIDEWALL. HAD TO GET THE VERY EXPENSIVE TIRE (GOODYEAR - 205/50/17 RS-A) REPLACED, WITH ONLY APPROXIMATELY 13,000 MILES ON THE CAR. NEXT FAILURE WAS IN OCTOBER OF THE SAME YEAR. DRIVING AT 35 MPH AT THE END OF A LINE OF THREE CARS WHEN ALL THREE HIT THE SAME POTHOLE. THE FIRST TWO CARS DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM, MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE COMPLETELY BLEW OUT THE SIDEWALL AND I HAD TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT, THIS TIME WITH JUST UNDER 15,000 MILES ON THE CAR. BOTH TIRE DEALERSHIPS SEEMED TO CASUALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THESE PARTICULAR TIRES ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OF CAR. DEALERSHIP DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM EXCEPT TO GIVE ME A NUMBER FOR CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER DOESN'T DEAL WITH TIRES AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO GOODYEAR. GOODYEAR SAID IT WAS DUE TO ROAD HAZARDS AND THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OF THE COSTS AND COMPLETELY DENIED HAVING HEARD OF ANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS TYPE OF TIRE. *NM

2005 PT CRUISER (TURBO) WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR ANNUAL INSPECTION AND OIL CHANGE. INSPECTION WAS NOT GRANTED. VEHICLE WAS PRONOUNCED "UNSAFE TO DRIVE" AS THE BEARINGS ON THE SPINDLE (ON AXLE) WERE DESTROYED AND BOTH FRONT WHEELS WERE WOBBLING. MECHANIC SAID ONE OR BOTH WHEELS COULD COME OFF. IN THE NEXT BAY WAS ANOTHER PT CRUISER (TURBO) WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. THE MECHANICS DISCUSSED WHETHER THE DESIGN WAS SUFFICIENT TO SUPPORT THE POWER OF THE TURBO. UNTIL THE PARTS ARRIVE (WE HAVE TO PAY THE $600+ FOR THEM) WE HAVE A RENTAL AT THE DEALERS SUGGESTION AND OUR COST. *JB

THE DEALER REPLACED THE UNIT UNDER WARRANTY. AT 30000 MILES, THE NOISE RETURNED. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHO RE-DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN. WITH ONLY 21,000 MILES MY 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE BASE MODEL EXPERIENCED A FAILURE OF THE MANUAL CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 100 MILES OF OPEN HIGHWAY AND WAS ENTERING A MORE URBAN SETTING WITH FREQUENT STOPS AND STARTS DUE TO TRAFFIC LIGHTS. AFTER ABOUT THE 5TH OR 6TH LIGHT MY GEAR SHIFT LEVER WOULD MOVE BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR. LUCKILY I HAD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN SAVANNAH GA. IT TOOK 3 DAYS TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE ENTIRE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY AND HOUSING HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH A MANUAL CLUTCH IS CLASSED AS A "CONSUMABLE" PART CHRYSLER AGREED TO SHARING HALF THE REPLACEMENT COST FOR THE PARTS DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE. I DROVE MY FIRST PT CRUISER ( AN EARLY PRODUCTION 2001 MODEL ) OVER 86,000 MILES AND NEVER HAD A CLUTCH PROBLEM. I AM NOW 18,000 MILES INTO THE LIFE OF THE REPLACEMENT CLUTCH WITH NO SIGNS OF ANY PROBLEMS. *JB
2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. *KB THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED TWO DAYS BEFORE THE FIRE OCCURRED. A PASSERBY EXTINGUISHED THE SMALL FIRE. *NM
ON THE INCIDENT DATE, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 78 MILES AN HOUR (IDAHO FREEWAY SPEED LIMIT IS 75). THE OUTSIDE SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED CAUSING THE TIRE TO COME COMPLETELY APART. IT WAS LITERALLY FILLED WITH ASH FROM THE RUBBER. THE TIRES ARE ON A 2005 PT CRUISER CONVERTIBLE TOURING EDITION AND HAD ONLY 19000 MILES ON THEM. THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED WITH 36 OR MORE POUNDS OF AIR AND THE AIR PRESSURE HAS BEEN CHECKED MUCH MORE OFTEN THAN NORMAL DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ALWAYS LOOKED LOW. I HAD JUST CHECKED THE AIR IN THEM TWO DAYS BEFORE. ABOUT 15 MILES PRIOR TO THE TIRE EXPLODING, THE CAR HAD A VERY DISTINCT PULL TO LEFT WHICH I ATTRIBUTED INITIALLY TO WIND LOAD FROM THE SIDE OF THE CAR, APPARENTLY IT WAS NOT WIND. THESE TIRES ARE A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN. *NM

O RINGS ON FUEL INJECTORS CAME OFF, CAUSING INJECTORS TO TAP. CHRYSLER WILL NOT TOUCH IT. THEY KEEP SAYING THE INJECTORS ARE SUPPOSED TO TAP! I WENT TO 4 CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS, AND 3 SAID IT`S NORMAL, AND ONE SAID THEY COULDN'T HEAR THE TAP. I WENT TO 3 OTHER MECHANICS ( NON CHRYSLER) AND THEY ALL SAID IT`S NOT NORMAL, AND TO GET IT FIXED RIGHT AWAY. BUT CHRYSLER WILL NOT ADMIT THERE`S ANYTHING WRONG, AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. BECAUSE OF THAT, I HAVE TO GET A DIFFERENT CAR! AFTER THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT, I WON`T BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO FIX THE PROBLEM! I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANY CHRYSLER PRODUCT TO ANYONE! *JB

THE DEFECTS IN MY VEHICLE ARE PRIMARILY RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILING RESULTING IN THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. ALL OF THE POWER GOES OUT; THE ENGINE DIES AND COMES BACK ON AFTER EITHER A FEW MOMENTS OR A FEW MINUTES. DURING THIS TIME THE VEHICLE IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER AND NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO BRAKE. THIS OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE AT SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. TO DATE (1/16/2006) THIS HAS OCCURRED 18 TIMES ON MY VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME ON MANY OCCASIONS THAT THEY ARE NOT CONFIDENT ON WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN WITNESSED BY OTHERS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN APRIL 2005. I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT AT AROUND 12000 MILES IN SEPTEMBER 2005. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT AND DC DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THEREBY, I REFUSED TO TAKE ANOTHER 2005 PT CRUISER. I DO NOT HAVE ANY CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR SO IT SITS PARKED WHILE I MUST CONTINUE TO MAKE PAYMENTS WHILE THIS MATTER GOES THROUGH THE COURTS. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY WERE ONLY ATTEMPTING WHAT DAIMLER CHRYSLER DIRECTED THEM TO DO. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS ON FOUR OCCASIONS (10/06-10/07, 10/20-10/24, 10/24-10/28, 11/07-11/17). THE DEALERSHIP PROMISED TO MAKE NECESSARY PART REPLACEMENTS AND THEN DRIVE IT ONE TO TWO HUNDRED MILES AFTER. THEY DID NOT DO EITHER. THEY SAID THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE MANPOWER TO HAVE SOMEONE DRIVE IT SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. MOST TIMES THE CAR IS ON THE HIGHWAY FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE IT DIES. I HAVE GIVEN THE DEALERSHIP PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS AND SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE FOR BOTH ME AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. *JB
WHILE DRIVING IN CITY I NOTICED A KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. I PULLED OVER AND SAW OIL POURING OUT OF FRONT OF ENGINE. I SHUT ENGINE OFF. AT NO TIME DID OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT COME ON. CALLED AAA AND HAD CAR TOWED TO NEAREST CHRYSLER DEALER. DEALER DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS BLOWN CAMSHAFT SEAL. REPLACED SEAL BUT WHEN RUNNING ENGINE STILL MADE KNOCKING SOUNDS. WAITED FOR ENGINE SPECIALIST TO COME BACK FROM VACATION. HE SAID ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND HE WOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER. CHRYSLER INSISTED ENGINE BE TORN DOWN TO IDENTIFY SOURCE OF PROBLEM. PROBLEM WAS CRANKSHAFT THRUST BEARING BROKEN IN HALF ALLOWING CRANKSHAFT TO MOVE LATERALLY FORCING OUT CRANKSHAFT SEAL, HENCE ALL THE OIL, AND MORE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS. I REQUESTED A "CRATED" ENGINE BE INSTALLED. DEALER SAID NONE AVAILABLE. AT PRESENT WAITING FOR DELIVERY OF CYLINDER HEAD. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 20 DAYS. MILEAGE AT TIME OF INCIDENT: 3,541 MILES. FORTUNATELY THIS FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHERE THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. *JB

THE 2005 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER HAS METALLIC-SILVER DASH INSERTS AROUND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND COVERING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE SUN IS HIGH IN THE SKY THE GLARE FROM THE METALLIC-SILVER INSTRUMENT PANEL IS BLINDING. THE GLARE IS SO BRIGHT IT LEAVES SPOTS IN YOUR EYES. THE MOLDED CURVES ABOVE THE INSTRUMENTS SEEM TO CONCENTRATE THE SUN??S ENERGY. MY WIFE IS SHORTER AND IS ABLE TO ADJUST THE TOP OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO BLOCK THE REFLECTION. I AM UNABLE TO DO THIS AND STILL HANDLE THE STEERING WHEEL COMFORTABLY. I PLACED ELECTRICAL TAPE ON THE PANEL JUST ABOVE THE CENTER INSTRUMENT TO BLOCK THE GLARE. *NM
THE SUBJECT TIRE WERE ON A CHRYSLER 2003 PT CRUSIER . THE FIRST TIME THE CAR HAS APPX 12000 MILES AROUND JAN 2005 ON AND THE TWO FRONT TIRES DEVELOPED BUBBLES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR NOW HAS 20000 MILES (JUN 2005) AND AGAIN THE TWO FROM TIRE HAVE BUBBLE AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER SAID THE BUBBLES WERE CAUSED BY GOEING THRU POT HOLES WHICH I THOUGH LOGICA; AT THE TIME. BUT IN LESS THEN SIX MONTHS BOTH FRONT TIRE HAVE BUBBLES AND NEED TO BE REPLACE. IS DOES SEEM ODD THAT IT ALWAY BOTH TIRE. IT SEEM TO ME THAT THE TIRE ARE DEFECTIVE, THE CAR HAS A DESIGN FLAW OR THE TIRES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR THIS CAR. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A IT IS JUST A MATER OF TIME BEFORE ONE OF THESE TIRE BLOWOUT AT HIGH SPPED AND KILLS SOMEONE.
CAR BOUGHT WITH 180 MILES ON IT. AT A STOP, WHILE IN IDLE, THE CAR SHUTTERS AND SHAKES. NOW THE CAR HAS 1700 MILES ON IT AND IT STILL SHUTTERS IN IDLE. ENGINE SEEMS TO BE CONSISTANTLY MISFIRING.
MY CAR HAS ONLY ABOUT 1,500 MILES ON IT, AND IT USUALLY DRIVES BEAUTIFULLY, BUT TODAY I SLOWED DOWN (FROM ABOUT 35 MPH) TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT A LIGHT AND THE BRAKES SEEMED SOFT SOMEHOW, THEN I HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A FOUR-WAY STOP ABOUT TWO BLOCKS FURTHER ALONG AND IT WAS HARD TO STOP AND I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE RACING. IN FACT THE CAR JUMPED OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION A LITTLE WAYS AFTER IT STOPPED. I LOOKED THIS UP AND READ ABOUT SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND I CAN SAY THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR (IF I HAD, THE CAR OBVIOUSLY WOULD NOT HAVE STOPPED -- IT JUMPED FORWARD AFTER I'D HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR, AND THE ENGINE WAS RACING MADLY EVEN AFTER I LOOKED TO SEE IF FOR SOME REASON THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK AND SHIFTED OUT OF DESPERATION INTO PARK). I BELIEVE THAT THE THROTTLE MALFUNCTIONED FOR SOME REASON AND I WILL TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALER THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW.
AFTER REFUELING GAGUE STILL READS EMPTY ,NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE,DEALER HAD CAR FOR SEVEN DAYS TO RUN TESTS COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM SO THEY CHANGED INSTREMENT CLUSTER THIS ONLY LASTED 4 ON&OFF CYCLES AND BACK TO SAME PROBLEM

MY SON, WHO LIVES THE ORLANDO AREA, WAS SLOWLY TURNING RIGHT AT AN INTERSECTION IN HIS 2004 PT CRUISER WHEN HE SUSTAINED CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HAVING AN ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE DEALERSHIP, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED. THE AIR INTAKE FOR THE ENGINE IS LOCATED BEHIND THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. HE SLOWLY WENT THROUGH A PUDDLE OF WATER ONLY A COUPLE OF INCHES DEEP WHILE HAVING THE WHEEL TURNED TO THE RIGHT. A FEW DROPS OF WATER OFF OF THE WHEEL GOT INTO THE AIR INTAKE, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO IMMEDIATELY SEIZE. $5000 REPAIR JOB.*AK
