THE PASSENGER SIDE MODULE - AIR BAG WAS REPLACED TWICE FIRST 3/17/ 2017 AND 8/23/2018 AND THE 2ND TIME THEY REPLACED IT WITH OUTDATED PARTS. REPORT RECALL PART 573 SAFETY - 21V-081. THE REPLACEMENT HAS NOT STARTED YET BUT I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A LAWSUIT ALSO BECAUSE THEY DID THE REPLACEMENT ANYWAY TO SATISFY THE GOVERMENT AND THEY PUT OUR LIFES AT RISK
TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE STILL BACKORDERED FOR MY 2005 FORD RANGER WHEN IT WAS TAKEN TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER.
THE REAR PORTION OF THE FRAME IS RUSTING AWAY AND THE LEAF SPRING SHACKLE FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET CAUSING THE BED OF THE TRUCK TO FALL ONTO THE BUSTED SHACKLE. THE SPARE TIRE MOUNT IS RUSTED SO BAD THAT WE REMOVED THE SPARE TIRE TO AVOID LOOSING THE SPARE WHILE DRIVING. THE REAR BUMPER SEEMS UNSTABLE AS THE FRAME IS RUSTED AND FALLING APART FROM THE REAR SHACKLE MOUNT ON BACK. THE FRONT PORTION OF THE FRAME SEEMS TO BE HOLDING UP OK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DOING A ROUTINE CHECK UNDER THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000.
THE LEAF SPRING BUSHINGS PUSHED THREW THE ROTTED FRAME AND POKED HOLES IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK .THE SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING ON THE GROUND WHEN I GOT HOME ONE DAY. NOW MY INSPECTION STATION WONT PUT A INSPECTION STICKER ON IT BECAUSE THEY SAY ITS TO DANGEROUS.TOYOTA HAD THIS PROBLEM AND ETHER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE OR REPLACED IT. *TR
TRUCK IS IN GOOD SHAPE W/123,600 MILES. FRAME ROTTED THROUGH AT REAR AXLE. SPARE TIRE AND HOLDER DROPPED RIGHT OUT OF IT AND WAS HANGING BY A THREAD. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO SHOP AND CUT SPARE TIRE AND HOLDER COMPLETELY OFF. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE, THE GEAR SHIFTER SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION INDEPENDENTLY AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWNHILL AND ENDED UP IN A DITCH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 116,732. *BF*JB
I HAVE LEARNED THE HARD WAY THAT THE SHIFTER ON THE 2005 FORD RANGER EXTENDED CAB WILL JUMP OUT OF PARK TO REVERSE. THIS HAPPEN TO ME (JUST RECENTLY) AND CAUSED ME TO TEAR UP MY DOOR AND FENDER ON THE VEHICLE (WHICH WILL BE COSTLY)...
I WOULD BE DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHOLE VEHICLE WOULD JUST SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENED 3 OR 4 TIMES JUST GOING AT 25 TO 35 MPH. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS A CLOGGED FUEL LINE SINCE IT WOULD SOMEHOW RESET ITSELF AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC SO I REPLACED THE FILTER EVEN THOUGH I COULD SEE NOTHING WRONG. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON A BACKCOUNTRY ROAD THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE FUEL PUMP SO I HAD THE WHOLE THING REPLACED. IT HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME AFTER THAT, I WAS PULLING ONTO A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND HAD JUST GOTTEN UP TO SPEED 55 MPH AND THERE WAS A TRACTOR-TRAILER BEHIND ME WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN AGAIN EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH MOMENT BUILT UP I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE GETTING HIT BY THE TRACTOR-TRAILER. I FINALLY LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT SOMEONE HAD MENTIONED THE SAME PROBLEM IT MAY BE THE INERTIA SWITCH. I CALLED UP A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND HAD ASKED THE PARTS PERSON IF THE HAD A REPLACEMENT AND IF HE HEARD ANY PROBLEMS ABOUT IT. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT OF THEM, THEY HAD SOLD A FEW IN THE PAST MONTHS. WHEN I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD OH YES WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT THAT HAPPENING BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I EXPLAINED HOW IT COULD BE A SAFETY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT IT MUST NOT BE HAPPENING ENOUGH FOR IT TO BE A RECALL. I RECENTLY FOUND THIS SITE AND HAVE SEEN THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD THIS HAPPEN SO AT LEAST I KNOW I WASN'T CRAZY. *TR
I BOUGHT A USED 2005 FORD RANGER XLT 4X4 IN JULY OF 2018 BEING A ONE OWNER VEHICLE AND LOW MILAGE AT THE TIME WHICH WAS ABOUT 65000 MILES I SAW IT ONLINE IN ONE OF THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS IN TOWN. HE HAD A GREAT REPUTATION AND I WENT TO SEE HIM GOT A GREAT DEAL SO I BOUGHT IT.. THE TRUCK PASSED MA STATE INSPECTION WITH NO ISSUES. I KEPT GETTING NOTICES FROM FORD FOR AN AIR BAG RECALL SO I WENT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS REPLACED FOR RECALL AND WANTED THEM TO CHECK THE UNDERCARRIDE AS WELL AS I HAVE SEEN HORROR STORIES ONLINE AS HOW BAD THESE UNDERCARRIDGES WERE ON THE FORD RANGERS. THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP DID A SAFETY INSPECTION AND FOUND THAT MY ENTIRE UNDERCARRIDGE HAS BEEN RUSTED OUT. THERE IS A MISSING CROSSMEMBER BAR WHICH I GUESS SUPPORTS THE VEHICLE THAT IS COMPLETELY GONE AND ALL HOIST POINTS ARE BAD VEHICLE IS COMPRIMISED DUE TO ALL THE RUST AND IS NOT SAFE FOR DRIVING. A CERTIFIED FORD DEALER GAVE ME THIS WRITTEN ESTIMATE AND I ASKED IF FORD WOULD HELP ME HERE ABOUT MAYBE RECALLING THE FRAMES AS I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF ONLINE STUFF THAT THESE FRAMES WERE AS BAD AS THE TOYOTA TUNDRAS AND TOYOTA AT LEAST RE-CALLED THE FRAMES CAN FORD DO THE SAME THEY SAID NO. I WOULD THINK A REPUTABLE FORD DEALER WHO GAVE ME THIS ESTIMATE WOULD AT LEAST TRY TO HELP ME BUT NO. I HAVE WRITTEN TO FORD BUT NO ANSWER AS OF YET. I AM FIGHTING NOW WITH THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO SOLD ME THE VEHICLE IN THE FIRST PLACE AS IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SOLD AND ALSO LOOKING INTO ANY RECOURSE I HAVE WITHIN MA LAW. THIS DOESNT SEEM RIGHT YOU HAVE AN ENTIRE UNDERCARRIDGE THAT HAS BEEN ROTTED OUT FOD KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN DIE IN AN ACCIDENT HERE. THES TRUCKS SHOULD BE RECALLED.
THE LEAF SPRING SHACKLES ROTTED THREW THE FRAME AND THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER DROPPED THE SPARE TIRE WHILE DRIVING THIS IS DANGEROUS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH LEAF SPRING SHACKLES WERE ROTTING THROUGH THE FRAME AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
THE FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED, ESPECIALLY IN THE REAR. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLE FELL OFF ABOUT 12 MONTHS AGO. WITHING THE LAST WEEK , THE REAR BUMPER BECAME DETACHED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT FAR BEHIND EITHER. THE LEAF SPRING SHACKLE PROBABLY HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, BUT DID NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT VEHICLE PERFORMANCE. THE REAR BUMPER FELL OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
THE REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME MY LEAF SPRING SHACKLES COULD NOT BE REPAIRED DUE TO SEVERE ROT OF THE FRAME IN THE REAR.TRUCK ONLY HAS 59000 MILES ON IT AND WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF.THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IS THERE A RECALL I DONT NO ABOUT? THANKYOU
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER AN ICY PATCH, SLID, AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A STOMACH INJURY, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE OTHER DRIVER SUSTAINED AN INJURED BACK. THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW IF THE OTHER DRIVER SOUGHT MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS NOT DAMAGED AND WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO COURTESY FORD LINCOLN (313 NE 122ND AVE, PORTLAND, OR 97230), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,043. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
WELL JUST BOUGHT MY 2005 RANGER ONLY HAS 111,230 MILES AND HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF BODY LOOKS GREAT NO RUST AT ALL WELL THE FRAME IS TOTAL JUNK ROTTED BEYOND REPAIR EVEN WORSE THEM MY SEQUOIA I HAD SUPER DANGEROUS SO I STARTED DOING RESEARCH AND SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE SAME ISSUES I RUN A REPAIR SHOP AND I SEE 1/2 RANGERS A MONTH THAT ARE JUNK NOT JUST SPRING SHACKLES OR HANGERS COMPETE FRAMES I DON'T UNDER STAND HOW A TRUCK THAT THE BODY IS SUPER CLEAN NEVER PAINTED LOOKS FLAWLESS BUT FRAME BROKE FROM ROT FORD SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THESE JUNK FRAMES I HAVE VEHICLE IN MY BACK LOT I MAY TALK TO A LAWYER ONLY REASON I FOUND ISSUES IT WAS DUE FOR INSPECTION SUPER MAD DROVE IT WITH MY SON AND COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT BECAUSE JUNK METAL
BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT SHACKLE BRACKET RUSTED AWAY , ALONG WITH RIGHT SIDE FRAME WHERE SHACKLE BRACKET ATTACHES
I HAD THE AIR BAGS REPLACED, AFTER NEW AIRBAGS WERE INSTALLED. AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS FLASHING, CODE 27, WHICH MEANS PASSENGER AIR BAG BYPASS MODULE # F81B-14BZ68-AD. MODULE HAD A BAD INDICATOR LAMP WHICH IN TURNS DISABLES THE ENTIRE AIR BAG SYSTEM. SO IN MY OPINION FORD SHOULD REPAIR THIS SO THAT I CAN HAVE AIR BAGS TO PROTECT ME. WITH THIS LAMP NOT FIXED I HAVE NO AIR BAGS, SO THE RECALL WAS USELESS. I NEED THIS FIXED AND THINK IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG RECALL. I SPOKE TO FORD AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS OR MAYBE IS AN ISSUE, NO COMMITMENT THERE. I CANNOT AFFORD THE INSPECTION COSTS BUT YOU TUBE GAVE ME ALL THE INFORMATION I NEED TO KNOW, THE $89 FOR INSPECTION AND $125. FOR PARTS AND INSTALLATION ARE WAY OUT OF MY BUDGET. THIS IS A SAFETY MATTER THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. YES THIS IS A CONSTANT CONDITION TO THE FORD RANGER AS IT SITES NOW. THE YOU TUBE SITE I USED IS: WWW,YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=U5MAYZJCTM, SO ANYONE CAN DIAGNOSIS MY TRUCK. DON'T NEED $89.00
THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SHACKLE RUSTED COMPLETELY OFF AND THE LEAF SPRING ALMOST WENT THROUGH THE BED OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS NOT DRIVABLE UNTIL THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SHACKLE WAS REPLACED. THIS WAS DISCOVERED AFTER DRIVING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, HEARING A LOUD BANG AND EXPERIENCING A JOLT. ONCE PARKED THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY LOOKED OVER, WHICH LEAD TO MORE DISCOVERIES. A GIANT RUST HOLE HAS FORMED IN THE FRAME BEHIND THE SHACKLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR AREA OF THE TRUCK. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND WAS PROFESSIONALLY UNDER COATED A COUPLE YEARS AGO WITH NO HOLES IN THE FRAME OR VISIBLE RUST AT THAT TIME. THE FRAME HAS DETERIORATED RAPIDLY. LUCKILY I DID NOT TRY TO TOW ANYTHING WITH THIS TRUCK BECAUSE THE REAR PART OF THE FRAME LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF, LOSING WHAT WAS BEING TOWED AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS ALSO A LARGE HOLE FORMING IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK.

SEVERELY RUSTED FRAME. WHILE THE SPARE TIRE HAS NOT FELL OFF YET, I HAD THE TRUCK UP ON A RACK AT PATRICK AIRFORCE BASE TO CHANGE THE OIL. I'VE KNOWN FOR A WHILE THAT THE FRAME IS BAD. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 81,000 MILES ON IT, BUT LOOKING AT THE FRAME, IT WON'T LAST MUCH LONGER.

RECALL ON AIRBAGS, RECEIVED REGISTERED LETTER FORM FORD STATING THAT AIR BAG PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH KELLY FORD MELBOURNE FLORIDA. THEY STATED THAT THE PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED BUT AFTER 4 DAYS THEY STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE PARTS EVEN THOUGH FORD SAYS THEY ARE AVAILABLE. THIS 2005 TRUCK WAS KEPT IN A GARAGE FOR THE LAST 13 YEARS, ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT AND THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY ROTTED AND RUSTED. HAD THIS TRUCK INSPECTED THIS WEEK AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDS A NEW FRAME TO PASS INSPECTION. THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT THIS FRAME HAS ROTTED AWAY WHEN NOT EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS AND KEPT IN VERY GOOD CONDITION MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD RANGERS. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE BY FORD ABOUT THIS DEFECT LIKE TOYOTA DID... PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I AM VERY UPSET THAT I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE MY TRUCK. I LIVE ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND CAN NOT AFFORD A NEW VEHICLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD FOR SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 17S42/NHTSA RECALL 17V787 &17V788 FOR MY 2005 FORD RANGER IN EARLY AUGUST 2018. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, MATTHEWS FORD IN NORWICH, N.Y 13815, TO SCHEDULE AN APPT. FOR REPAIR. ON 8/20 I RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER FROM MOTOR VEHICLE DEPT. STATING NOT TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE UNTIL REPAIRED, I CALLED MATTHEWS FORD AGAIN ON 8/23 TO CHECK ON WHEN PARTS WOULD BE IN TO MAKE AN APPT. AND I WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG IT WOULD BE. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH SINCE I RECEIVED MY FIRST NOTIFICATION AND I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE I CAN DO EXCEPT WAIT FOR THE FORD DEALER TO GET THE PARTS NECESSARY FOR REPAIR. I ASKED THE FORD SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT A LOANER VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO CHECK WITH FORD AND THEY WOULD SEND ME TO A RENTAL AGENCY SUCH AS HERTZ. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED ANYONE ELSE AT THIS TIME, I HOPE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HELP ME WITH THIS SITUATION. RECALL DATE 12/13/17 OF PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATORS 17V87 & 17V88. NOTICE DATED JANUARY 2018. CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER (LAWTON, OK) SEVERAL TIMES IN FEBRUARY, MARCH, APRIL TO ORDER PART/SEE IF PART WAS AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW 4/20/18 AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE PART IN. CLAIM THEY ORDERED IT.
"TAKATA RECALL" I HAVE RECEIVED RECALL NOTICES ON BOTH OF THE AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE (ONE IN DECEMBER 2015 FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE OTHER IN FEBRUARY 2016 FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE). I DID NOT DO ANYTHING IN DECEMBER 2015 SINCE MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG COULD BE TURNED OFF. WHEN I GOT THE SECOND NOTICE ABOUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE, I CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY RATHER THAN RISK INJURING SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE AIRBAGS REPLACED ON NOVEMBER 10, 2017. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLACE MY AIRBAGS WITHOUT AN AUTHORIZATION FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY SINCE I HAD TAKEN THE DEPLOYMENT CANISTER OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND DISCARDED IT. I DID THIS BECAUSE I STILL NEEDED TO USE THE COVERING INSERT IN MY STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER ADVISED ME TO CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY "FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP/ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE" AT PHONE # 1-800-392-3673. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THEY HAD TO HAVE THE RECALLED AIRBAG CANISTER TO GET CREDIT FOR REPLACING IT. SO NEITHER OF MY AIRBAGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. DO I HAVE ANY OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS REPLACED, AT THIS POINT, OTHER THAN PAYING THE COST OF REPAIR MYSELF?

"THEY ONLY GET SO MANY A MONTH FROM FORD" . THE RECALL LETTER AND INFO IN THE MEDIA SAYS THAT "PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE". OBVIOUSLY THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. IS FORD BEING DECEPTIVE ON THE AVAILABILITY OF PARTS TO REPAIR THIS RECALL?
TAKATA RECALL: I RECEIVED NOTICE IN DEC 2017 THAT MY VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE & THAT FORD WOULD PAY FOR REPAIR. END OF FEB 2018, LOCAL DEALER STILL HAS NO PARTS. FORD HAS NOT PROVIDED ME WITH A LOANER CAR UNTIL MINE CAN BE MADE SAFE. THESE MANUFACTURERS HAVE FULL FORESEEABILITY THAT THEIR PRODUCT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, YET THEY FAIL TO REMEDY THIS DESIGN FLAW, THREATENING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. I AM FORCED TO: A) RISK BLOODY DEATH BY SHRAPNEL EXPLODING AIRBAGS; B) NOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE WHICH DEPRIVES ME OF ESSENTIAL TRANSPORTATION & THE USE OF MY RIGHTFUL PROPERTY; OR C) DISABLE THE AIRBAGS & RELY ONLY ON SEATBELTS AS WE DID IN THE OLDEN DAYS. PLEASE HELP GET PARTS TO THE MILLIONS OF CONSUMERS WHO SHOULD NOT BEAR THE BURDEN FOR MANUFACTURING DEFECTS & CORRUPT FAILURES OF GOVT OVERSIGHT. PROTECT OUR HIGHWAY SAFETY BY DEMANDING REPLACEMENT PARTS BE MADE AVAILABLE IN ALL STATES IMMEDIATELY.

ENGINE STALLED OSTENSIBLY FOR LACK OF FUEL. FIRST ENGINE STALL EPISODE OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE WAS TURNING LEFTWARD INTO DRIVEWAY AT ABOUT 2 MPH AND AT APPROX 5 DEGREE ANGLE OF INCLINATION. VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM WHERE IT CAME TO REST TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE DIAGNOSIS WAS FUEL PUMP FAILURE RESULTING IN REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP (FORD OEM PART.) VEHICLE PERFORMED RELIABLY THEREAFTER FOR A PERIOD OF APPROX 39 MONTHS WITHOUT STALLING. SECOND EPISODE OCCURRED AFTER VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND RESTING ON FLAT DRIVEWAY SURFACE OVERNIGHT. THE FOLLOWING MORNING ENGINE CRANKED BUT WOULD NOT FIRE OR START. AGAIN TOWED TO DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE DIAGNOSIS WAS AGAIN FUEL PUMP FAILURE HOWEVER UPON ATTEMPT TO RESTART FOLLOWING PUMP REPLACEMENT, ENGINE WOULD NOT FIRE OR START. TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED FUEL INERTIA SWITCH REQUIRED RESET AFTER WHICH ENGINE STARTED, SYSTEM TESTED OK AND VEHICLE PERFORMED SEEMINGLY PROPERLY FOR NEXT 10 DAYS. MOST RECENT (3RD) STALLING EPISODE OCCURRED AT TRAFFIC CONTROL LIGHT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IMMEDIATELY UPON ACCELERATION FROM FULL STOP ON LEVEL SURFACE AND ATTEMPTING TO TRAVEL DIRECTLY FORWARD WITH NO TURN OF THE WHEEL. FOLLOWING REMOVAL FROM ROADWAY, ENGINE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED UNTIL AFTER FUEL INERTIA SWITCH WAS RESET. VEHICLE THEN RAN UNDER ITS OWN POWER ADDITIONAL 2 MILES TO HOME WHERE IT REMAINS PENDING FURTHER TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR.
TAKATA RECALL. LOCAL FORD DEALER INDICATES THAT, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE POSES A THREAT TO DRIVER AND PASSENGERS, THEY CANNOT REPLACE THE AIRBAGS. AM BEING TOLD THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS AND THAT THEY CAN ONLY GET SO MANY PER MONTH.
THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS TRUCK. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT IN RENO NEVADA AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE PARTS FOR ANOTHER MONTH AND A HALF. IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR UNTIL THEN?
TAKATA RECALL I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER (ONEONTA FORD IN ONEONTA NY) AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE AIRBAG ISSUE, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ONLY THING I COULD DO IS CALL THEM BACK ON A MONTHLY BASIS TO SEE IF THEY EVEN GET A REPLACEMENT AIRBAG BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN FORD SENDS THEM OUT. AT THE TIME OF THE CALL THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS IN STOCK NOR COULD THEY PUT ME ON SOME SORT OF LIST TO CALL ME WHEN THEY GET THEM BACK IN STOCK. THEY SAID THEY HAD CUSTOMERS WAITING MONTHS ALREADY. I SAID I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY TRUCK WITH POSSIBLY DEADLY AIRBAGS AND THEY OFFERED NOTHING. I LIVE IN A RURAL AREA AND THEY ARE THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER. THEIR INFO IS: ONEONTA FORD, ONEONTA NY, PHONE 607-431-7300. I FEEL THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE TO A POTENTIAL DEADLY ISSUE. I FEEL AS IF I WAS "BRUSHED OFF" DURING THE PHONE CALL.
I CAN'T GET MY VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL. I WILL HAVE TO TAKE OFF WORK AND LOOSE A DAYS PAY. MY WIFE IS VERY SICK AND I NEED TO BE WITH HER WHEN I AM HOME. NO DEALER NEAR ME WILL WORK WITH ME.

TAKATA AIRBAGS. FIRST RECALL 2016. ONLY HAD PARTS FOR PASSENGER AIRBAGS. I CHECKED EVERY TWO MONTHS AND NO PARTS. NOW RECEIVE NEW RECALL, FORD MOTOR SAID HAD PARTS, BUT DEALER SAYS NO. GETTING THE RUNAROUND. I WEIGH 96 POUNDS AND AM 70 YEARS OLD. IF BAG IS DEFECTIVE THEN I WILL BE ONE OF THE DEATH STATISTIC. I ALREADY THINK WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH AIRBAG.
I CONTACTED COWLES FORD IN WOODBRIDGE, VA IN APRIL, 2017 ABOUT THE AIRBAG RECALL. THEY TOOK DOWN MY VIN, SAID THEY WOULD ORDERS THE PARTS, SAID IT WOULD TAKE SOME TIME FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN AND THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. I GOT ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE AND CALLED THEM IN DECEMBER, 2017. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAW WHERE THEY TRIED TO ORDER THE PARTS BEFORE WITH NO OTHER INFORMATION LISTED. HE TOOK DOWN MY VIN, SAID HE WOULD ORDER THE PARTS AND WOULD CALL ME IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS WHEN THEY CAME IN. HE CALLED ME BACK AND SAID HE CALLED IN TO ORDER THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT PARTS AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH, 2018 AND FOR ME TO CALL BACK MID-MARCH FOR A STATUS. I HAVE A VOICEMAIL WHERE THE DEALERSHIP STATES THIS. THE AIRBAG RECALL SAYS THE PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AND TO GET THE AIRBAGS REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND MEDIA/NEWS IS REPORTING THERE WAS AN AIRBAG RELATED DEATH RECENTLY FOR MY SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE MANUFACTURED ONE YEAR AFTER MY VEHICLE.
I GOT A LETTER ABOUT A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS BECAUSE THEY HAVE KILLED PEOPLE. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS YET. FORD IS STATING IN THE NEWS THAT WE SHOULD NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING A RENTAL AND THE FORD HOTLINE HAS HUNG UP ON ME SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ALLOWING ME TO SPEAK TO A PERSON. MY SON HAS THE CAR TO GET TO SCHOOL AND NOW HAS NO WAY TO DO THAT. I NEED A REPAIR OR A RENTAL RIGHT AWAY.
TAKATA RECALL - THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FROM MANUFACTURER SINCE SAFETY RECALL ISSUED IN JULY 2016. FORD IS RECOMMENDING TO "NOT DRIVE" VEHICLE AS THIS IS NOT SAFE. THIS IS ONLY OPERATING VEHICLE I UTILIZE FOR TRANSPORTATION. WHEN WILL THE MANUFACTURER HAVE A REPLACEMENT PART?

TAKATA RECALL: JULY 2015: RECEIVED LETTER FROM FORD AND I WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER WHEN PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. NOVEMBER 2017: CALLED SEVERAL FORD DEALERS IN KANSAS CITY AREA AND PARTS STILL NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE FAILURE RECURRED A THIRD TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE INERTIA SWITCH. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT PROVIDED.
FORD RANGER 2005 4 CYLINDER FUEL CUTOFF SAFETY SWITCH CUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING, FIRST TIME IN 2012 WHILE OUT OF STATE, TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, TRIED TO PULL OVER, BUT NOT MUCH OF A ROAD SHOULDER. I HAD IT TOWED 11 MILES TO AN UNFAMILIAR GARAGE THAT, REPLACED THE SWITCH FOR $360. IN 2015 SWITCH FAILED, TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE AND REPAIRED. I BELIEVE THEY RESET THE SAFETY SWITCH AND CHARGED $70 DOLLARS. RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS, FOUND OUT THE SWITCH IS PROBABLY DEFECTIVE AND CAN BE RESET. I CANNOT START MY VEHICLE MORE THAN THREE TIMES WITHOUT RESETTING THE SWITCH. THE FORD DEALER WANTED TO REPLACE MY FUEL PUMP FOR $850. I DOUBT THAT IS THE PROPER FIX. THIS SITUATION IS EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING AND QUITE DANGEROUS. I DON'T KNOW WHY FORD IS TURNING AWAY FROM THIS PROBLEM OTHER THAN THE NUMBER OF OWNERS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. I LOVE MY TRUCK, I HATE THE INCONVENIENCE. THERE ARE OTHER MODELS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE CUTOFF CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME, WHILE IN MOTION OR STANDING STILL.
THE FRAME UNDER THE TRUCK ESPECIALLY THE REAR IS LITERALLY RUSTING AWAY. THE CROSS MEMBERS THAT HOLD THE FUEL TANK ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND OVER HALFWAY GONE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.
VEHICLE HAS 37850 MILES LOOKS LIKE NEW AND THE FRAME HAS ROTTED AWAY SPRING HANGERS AND THE COMPLETE FRAME ITSELF YOU CAN PUT YOUR FINGERS THROUGH IT AND GAS TANK STRAPS ALSO GONE

TAKATA RECALL DATED JAN 2016 DRIVERS AIRBAG
FRAME HAS EXTREME RUST DAMAGE. THERE ARE HOLES THROUGH THE FRAME. MY MECHANIC EXPRESSED A LOT OF CONCERN ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME STEEL AND SAID I SHOULD GET RID OF THE TRUCK. I AM RETIRED AND USE THE TRUCK FOR MY PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION.
DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST DAMAGE DESPITE PROPER PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE, THE INTEGRITY OF THE FRAME/CHASSIS OF THE VEHICLE WAS COMPROMISED. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME AT THE MIDWAY POINT OF THE LENGTH OF THE VEHICLE SNAPPED COMPLETELY SEPARATING INTO TWO PIECES. THE RUST DAMAGE ALSO CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE APPARATUS TO BREAK AND ALSO CAUSED THE BUMPER TO FALL OFF.

THE GAS ACCIDENT CUT OFF SWITCH CUT OUT RANDOMLY DURING DRIVING ON A SMOOTH FLAT ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEED AS WELL AS AROUND TOWN AT SLOWER SPEED. A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER COULD HAVE HAD A DEADLY. ACCIDENT. I RESET IT SEVERAL TIMES AND HAD TO REPLACE IT. FORD SHOULD HAVE HAD A RE-CALL ON THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I HAVE THE OLD SWITCH IF IT IS NEEDED.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR MONTHS TO RECEIVE THE "INTERIM" REPLACEMENT FOR MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG, AND I HAVE FELT UNSAFE IN DRIVING MY VEHICLE SINCE I FIRST RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATOR. I'VE BROUGHT MY TRUCK (2005 FORD RANGER) INTO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP 3 SEPARATE TIMES, AND EACH TIME THEY'VE RETURNED IT TO ME WITHOUT FIXING ANYTHING BECAUSE THE PART FOR THE INTERIM REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN ON BACKORDER. THIS IS IN HOUSTON, TX, SO RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRIORITY REGION DUE TO EXTREMELY HIGH HUMIDITY. I HAVE TRIED EVERY POSSIBLE AVENUE TO GET A LOANER VEHICLE, BY CALLING FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (STERLING MCCALL FORD IN HOUSTON, TX). I KNOW THAT HONDA IS ISSUING LOANER VEHICLES, DESPITE HAVING MANY MORE MODELS AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. IT IS CLEAR THAT HONDA CARES MORE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS' SAFETY THAN FORD, BECAUSE FORD REFUSES TO ISSUE LOANER VEHICLES FOR THIS RECALL. I REFUSE TO DRIVE MY TRUCK OR ALLOW MY WIFE TO DRIVE MY TRUCK UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. THIS LEAVES ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE TO DRIVE. I URGE NHTSA TO PUT PRESSURE ON FORD TO PROVIDE LOANER VEHICLES, AS HONDA HAS DONE, TO SHOW THAT THEY ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS' SAFETY.
TAKATA RECALL I RRECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE IN FEBRUARY 2016 AND HAVE YET TO BE CALLED TO WITH AN REASON WHY, WHEN OR HOW THE MY PROBLEM WII BE SOLVED. DON'T GET RETURN CALLS FROM THE DEALER. IS THERE A POSSIBLE TIME ESTIMATE AS TO WHEN I WILL NBE NOTIFIED OF TJHE STATUS OFR THESE SITUATION?

BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW AND AFTER ITS FIRST WINTER, WAS ALREADY SHOWING SEVERE RUSTING ON THE FRAME, NOW 11 YEARS LATER THE REAR FRAME IS RUSTED SO SEVERELY THAT THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES MOUNTING BRACKETS HAVE COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE METAL ON THE REAR FRAME RAILS IS SEVERELY RUSTED AND PERFORATED WHERE THE SPRING SHACKLE BRACKETS ATTACH TO THE FRAME, ALSO THE SPARE TIRE HOIST ASSEMBLY THAT HOLDS THE SPARE UNDER THE TRUCK , HAS ALSO FAILED AND IS DANGEROUS, CAN NO LONGER USE IT AS SPARE TIRE IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD OF FALLING OFF THE TRUCK THAT COULD SEVERELY INJURE OR KILL ANOTHER MOTORIST SHOULD IT FALL OFF THE TRUCK AND STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR FLY THROUGH SOMEONES WINDSHIELD. NHTSA SHOULD REQUIRE THAT FORD RECALL THESE TRUCKS, AND BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE FRAMES, SIMILAR TO THE TOYOTA TUNDRA RECALL SEVERAL YEARS AGO FOR RUST PROBLEMS ON THEIR FRAMES, A TRUCK FRAME SHOULD NOT RUST AWAY ON A 2005 RANGER THAT HAS 98,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT! FORD FAILED TO PROVIDE ANY CORROSION PROTECTION ON THESE RANGER TRUCK FRAMES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD A 6 YEAR OLD PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER INJURED HER NECK, BACK, ARM, AND RIBS THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. I RECEIVED A NOTICE ON 7/16/15 THAT MY 2005 FORD RANGER WAS AFFECTED BY RECALL 15S22. I THEN RECEIVED A NOTICE ON 12/7/15 THAT THE REPAIR PARTS WERE BECOMING AVAILABLE. I WAS IN CONTACT WITH A LOCAL FORD DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND AFTER THE REPAIR PARTS ARRIVED, I MADE A 2/15/16 APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE NAME OF THE DEALER THAT PERFORMED THE REPAIRS IS SUNSET FORD. ON 2/15/16, THE REPAIR WAS MADE ON CUSTOMER NUMBER 71758, AND INVOICE NUMBER FOCS185790. HOWEVER, AFTER THE REPAIR PARTS WERE INSTALLED, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. THIS HADN'T HAPPENED BEFORE THE REPAIR WAS DONE. THEN THERE WERE E-MAIL COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND A FORD AGENT. THE AGENT STATED THAT THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND EXPLAINED THAT A FUSE NEEDED TO BE REMOVED TO DE-POWER THE SYSTEM, AND THEN RETURNED. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TRIED, THERE WAS A BATTERY DISCONNECT, AND A FIX DIDN'T WORK. A SWITCH, OR CIRCUIT, OR SOMETHING ELSE ISN'T WORKING. THE COST TO FIX THE NEW FAILURE IS $253.99, AND FORD WON'T COVER IT. I DECLINED PAY FOR THIS NEW FAILURE, AND LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH AN AIRBAG DASH LIGHT THAT INITIALLY BLINKS, AND THEN STAYS ON. THIS VEHICLE MAY BE MORE UNSAFE TO DRIVE NOW, THAN IT WAS WHEN IT WAS INITIALLY TAKEN-IN FOR SAFETY REPAIRS! 1. DID FORD PROVIDE ADEQUATE TRAINING FOR REPAIRS ON RECALL 15S22? 2. DID THE REPAIRS FOR 15S22 CREATE A FAILURE FOR SOMETHING ELSE? 3. IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIRS, SUCH AS THE ROOT CAUSE FOR THE CURRENT CONDITION THAT IS CAUSING THE DASH'S AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TO GO ON? 4. IS FORD DOING SOMETHING TO TRY TO CREATE EXTRA BUSINESS FOR ITS DEALERSHIPS THAT'S AT THE CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE? 5. WHEN WILL FORD, OR THE DEALERSHIP SUNSET FORD, GET MY TRUCK'S WARRANTY-RELATED SAFETY DEFECT CORRECTED, AT NO EXPENSE TO ME?

MALFUNCTION/FAILURE OF VEHICLE ABS UNIT. FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND THEN PERMANENTLY IN THE FALL/WINTER OF 2014. VEHICLE IS 10 YEARS OLD BUT HAD LESS THAN 30 THOUSAND MILES, AND HAS BEEN GARAGED FOR ITS ENTIRE OPERATIONAL LIFE. IT TOOK SEVERAL MONTHS FOR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE NEW OEM ABS UNIT, IMPLYING THAT MANY OTHER VEHICLES ARE EXPERIENCING THIS UNIT FAILURE. NARROWLY AVOIDED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO BRAKES LOCKING UP DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING. RECEIPT FOR REPAIR IS ATTACHED.

APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CONCERNING THE AIR BAGS ON MY 2005 FORD RANGER. THE LETTER STATES THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT INJURY OR DEATH MAY HAPPEN SHOULD THE AIR BAG DEPLOY. TODAY I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY 1800-241-3673 ABOUT MY CONCERNS (SHOULD I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUES?) I SPOKE WITH A A PERSON NAMED ISABILLA THAT WAS VERY NICE , BUT OF NO HELP AS SHE COULD NOT OR WOULD NOT SAY WEATHER I SHOULD DRIVE MY VEHICLE OR NOT . I THEN ASKED TO SPEAK WITH HER SUPERVISOR SHE PASSED ME ON TO A ( CRIS, BADGE NUMBER 63614 ) HIS BOTTOM LINE WAS THE PARTS ARE OUT OF STOCK WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THEY COME IN ,I CAN'T TELL YOU WEATHER ITS SAFE TO DRIVE YOUR TRUCK OR NOT. YOU CAN TAKE YOUR TRUCK TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER AND HAVE THEM INSPECT IT. I ASKED IF FORD WOULD PAY FOR THE INSPECTION HE SAID YES AND SEEMED TO BE GETTING ANOIED THAT I CONTINUED TO ASK QUESTIONS. HE THEN SAID THAT FORD WOULD WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE INSPECTION AND THAT THERE WAS NO MORE HE COULD DO FOR ME . I THEN ASK TO SPEAK TO HIS SUPERIOR HE STATED THAT HE DID NOT HAVE A SUPERVISOR THAT HE WAS THE TOP PERSON THERE AND THAT WAS IT . HE ALSO PATCHED ME THROUGH TO PARSONS FORD SERVICE DEPT TO GET RID OF ME. SO NOW I ASK WHAT AM I TO DO ?? DO I DRIVE MY UNSAFE VEHICLE FORD SAYS ITS UNSAFE .DO I PARK IT?? I NEED MY VEHICLE.

ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATES TO HIGH SPEED, WITH CAR MOVING SLOWLY AT FIRST. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES NOW, ALWAYS INITIALLY AT LOW SPEED. IN ALL CASES, HOLDING BRAKES HARD HAS KEPT VEHICLE FROM HITTING ANYTHING OR ANYBODY, BUT REAR WHEELS TURNED ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE VEHICLE EVEN WHILE BRAKE WAS HELD HARD. TURNING OFF KEY STOPS THE ENGINE, AND WHEN IT IS RESTARTED, SYMPTOMS DISAPPEAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED MOST TIMES WITH CRUISE CONTROL TURNED OFF, THOUGH I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED. TENDS TO HAPPEN AT GAS STATIONS AFTER REFUELING OR WHEN PARKING, IN BOTH CASES WITH VEHICLE INITIALLY RUNNING VERY SLOWLY. I BELIEVE THAT ACCIDENTAL PRESSING OF ACCELERATOR CAN BE RULED OUT HERE. THE VEHICLE IS SELDOM USED.

WE WERE TRAVELING NORTH ON HIGHWAY 37 AND A CAR TRAVELING WEST PULLED OUT FROM A STOP SIGN IN FRONT OF IS WE HIT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF OUR TRUCK INTO THE OTHER VEHICLES LEFT FRONT AND OUR TRUCK CONTINUED OVER THE TOP OF THE OTHER VEHICLES FRONT END.THE AIRBAGS ON OUR TRUCK DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
ENGINE BEGINS TO RUN VERY ROUGH. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD MY 3.0 V6 IS SUFFERING FROM WELL KNOW (2004 - 2006) CYLINDER HEAD FAILURE - VALVE RECESSION. NEW HEADS ARE NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. COST OF REPAIR IS APPROX, $2800. HEAD / VALVE FAILURE / POOR DESIGN OF HEAD IS APPARENTLY WELL KNOWN BY FORD. FUEL LEAKAGE INTO THE FAILED CYLINDER OR CYLINDERS COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD IF NOT REPAIRED AND DRIVEN CONTINUOUSLY. *TR
FRONT PORTION OF RACK BROKE LEAVING THE TIRE HANGING BELOW THE TRUCK. FORD DEALER SAID THE FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT AND COULD NOT BE FIXED. *TR
LOUD SQUEAL FOR SEVERAL DAYS THOUGHT IT WAS TENSION PULLEY. THAT WAS REPLACED WITH NO CHANGE. A FEW DAYS LATER GOING DOWN THE ROAD. A VERY LOUD SQUEAL FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER. LATER WAS DETERMINED THE VIBRATION DAMPENER HAD COME APART. THE RUBBER HAD COME PART ALLOWING THE GROOVE SECTION THE BELT RIDES ON TO SLIP TOWARD THE BACK UP AGAINST THE FRONT COVER. IN LOOKING ONLINE FOR INFORMATION IT WAS DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH EXPLORER AND RANGERS WITH THE 4.0 ENGINE. A LOT OCCUR WITH LOW MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND SOME RESULT IT MAJOR REPAIRS AS THE PULLEY FLIES OFF TAKING OUT THE RADIATOR. I WAS ABLE TO REPLACE MINE BECAUSE I AM A MECHANIC AND HAVE THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB. SO MY REPAIR BILL WAS NOT AS MUCH AS OTHERS HAD STATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, THE TECHNICIAN NOTIFIED HIM THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. IN ADDITION, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE CORROSION WAS CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. UPON INSPECTION THE CONTACT NOTICED RUST ON THE REAR FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS COVERED WITH RUST BUT IT WAS COVERED UNDER A TEN YEAR RUST WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED NOR WAS THE DEFECT DIAGNOSED. THE RUST ON THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3000.
TOP OF FRAME FROM THE SHOCK TOWERS FORWARD HAVE RUSTED THRU AND THE FRAME HAS SPLIT. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD, HAS ONLY 97,00 MILES ON IT, AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE IS GARAGED AT NIGHT AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN A SNOW STORM DURING THE LAST FOUR YEARS. OTHERWISE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SWITCH THAT SENT FUEL TO THE ENGINE HAD A SHORT AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ELECTRIC FUEL INERTIA KILL SWITCH MALFUNCTION(OVER HEATING AND CAUSING ENG> SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING!) EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INERTIA SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PARK. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO SPORADICALLY FAIL TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE INERTIA SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE SWITCH REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V352000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT STATED THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
AS A PASSENGER ENTERED MY TRUCK, THEIR FOOT HIT THE INERTIA SWITCH KILLING THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 15 TIMES, 3 OF WHICH NO PASSENGER WAS EVEN IN THE TRUCK. THIS SWITCH IS PLACED IN A COMMONLY KICKED AREA AND ONCE TRIPPED THE FIRST TIME IT BECOMES EXTREMELY SENSITIVE TO VIBRATION. ONE TIME IT CUT OFF WHILE I WAS IDLING IN LINE AT A DRIVE-THRU. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND RELOCATED. *TR

VEHICLE ENGINES SHUTS OFF WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. HAS HAPPENED BETWEEN 20 TO 30 TIMES OVER THE LIFE IF THE VEHICLE. HAS HAD 4 INERTIA SWITCHES INSTALLED. FORD HAS CLAIMED " INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS ARE NOT OUR PROBLEM." MULTIPLE FORD DEALERSHIPS HAVE ALSO SAID THAT IT DOESN'T "THROW A CODE" AND IS THEREFORE NOT IN NEED IF BEING FIXED JUST "A QUIRKY VEHICLE." I'VE ALSO BEEN TOLD THE ONLY WAY TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO BUY A NEW TRUCK. *TR
MULTIPLE SHUT OFFS FROM THE INERTIA SWITCH HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 2+ YEARS AFTER DRIVING FOR 30-40 MINS TRUCK WILL JUST SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING HAS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE, DRIVING AROUND TOWN OR SITTING AT STOP LIGHT. ENDED UP MELTING THE CONNECTION. HAVE REPLACED. *TR
MY VEHICLE (FORD RANGER) T-BONES ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT MAKES LEFT TURN RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. MY VEHICLE MAKES DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE AT APPROX 45 MPH. NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT FOR ME (DRIVER) OR THE ADULT PASSENGER THAT IS PRESENT IN MY VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE TURNING A CORNER THE TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF AND DIED. HAD TO PUSH IT OVER TWO LANES AND INTO A PARKING LOT ONLY TO FIND OUT THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH WAS POPPED. RESET IT AND THE TRUCK STARTED FOR A FEW MINUTES BUT WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE OFF IT DIED AGAIN. RECHECKED THE INERTIA SWITCH AND THIS TIME IT WAS NOT POPPED. PULLED THE CONNECTOR OFF OF THE SWITCH AND JUMPED THE CONNECTOR AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE ALL THE WAY HOME. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS SWITCH HAS GIVEN ME TROUBLE. ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO IT DID THE SAME THING BUT THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND REPLACED A $400.00 FUEL PUMP ONLY TO FIND OUT LATER THAT THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH HAD POPPED. THIS SWITCH SEEMS TO POP IN SOME ODD AND BAD LOCATIONS WITH NO APPARENT REASON. NO BUMPS IN THE ROAD, NO HARD BRAKING, OR HARD ACCELERATION ETC. THIS TIME WHEN I PULLED THE SWITCH I FOUND THE CONNECTOR SLIGHTLY MELTED AND REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION IN THE SWITCH ITSELF. HAD TO ORDER A SWITCH KIT WHICH RELOCATES IT INTO THE FUSE PANEL KICK PLATE OF THE TRUCK. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS AS IT IS A GOOD WAY TO CAUSE AND ACCIDENT IF THE TRUCK WAS GOING HIGH SPEED AND ALL THE SUDDEN STALLS AND YOU LOOSE ALL POWER STEERING AND BRAKES ETC. COULD GET SOMEONE KILLED. THANKFULLY I CAUGHT MINE BECAUSE I AM A MECHANIC AND KNOW A LOT ABOUT FORDS. *TR
TOOK MY TRUCK FOR ITS NYS INSPECTION TO MY FORD DEALER-- TECH STATED HE COULD NOT PASS THE TRUCK BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE RUST ON A PART OF THE FRAME. THIS VEHICLE HAS UNDER 39K MILES ON IT AND IS WELL- MAINTAINED. THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS PERFECT AND THE REST OF THE FRAME HAS AN EXPECTABLE AMOUNT OF RUST FOR THIS CLIMATE. I HAVE HAD FOUR OTHER FORD TRUCKS USED AND STORED UNDER SAME CONDITIONS AND NONE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH FRAME RUST. THE OFFENDING PART IS A FRONT CROSS MEMBER THOUGH WHICH SOME BOLTS PASS. THE HOLES AROUND THE BOLTS ARE "ROTTEN".
DRIVING ON I75 WHEN ENGINE STOPPED. I LOST ALL POWER. WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. AFTER FIVE MINUTES, TRUCK STARTED AND DROVE HOME WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEM. CONTINUED TO HAVE SAME PROBLEM, DIDN'T MATTER WHAT SPEED I WAS DRIVING OR IF I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT, AND IT WOULD STOP REPEATEDLY IN ONE WEEK OR GO FOR MONTHS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. TRUCK WOULD STOP AND WOULD EVENTUALLY RESTART WITHIN A COUPLE MINUTES OR UP TO 30 MINUTES AFTER IT HAD STOPPED. I REPEATEDLY HAD TO COAST OR PUSH THIS TRUCK FROM THE ROADWAY WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING. IN EARLY 2011, THE TRUCK STOPPED THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY. THE THIRD TIME, IT STOPPED IN FRONT OF FRIENDLY FORD, MONROE, MI. THEY KEPT IT FOR TWO WEEKS BUT IT ONLY STOPPED RUNNING FOR THEM ONE TIME AND IT REPAIRED ITSELF BEFORE THEY COULD FIND THE PROBLEM. IN MAY OF 2012, IT BEGAN STOPPING MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE DAY. IT STOPPED AND WOULD NOT RESTART AND I HAD IT TOWED TO CREST FORD IN FLAT ROCK, MI. THEY DISCOVERED THE FUEL SHUTOFF INERTIA SWITCH HAD FAILED AND REPLACED IT AND THE PIG TAIL WIRING HARNESS. IT APPARENTLY HAD OVERHEATED FOR SOME TIME AND HAD MELTED THE WIRING HARNESS INTO THE SWITCH. I PAID $367.94 FOR THESE REPAIRS. AT THIS TIME THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 28,370 MILES ON IT. THE TRUCK WAS USED VERY LITTLE AND WAS ALWAYS KEPT INSIDE MY GARAGE. THE DEALER TOLD ME TO CONTACT FORD FOR POSSIBLE REIMBURSEMENT. FORD TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AT THIS TIME BUT TO KEEP MY RECEIPT IN CASE OF A FUTURE RECALL. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS SWITCH IS DESIGNED TO SHUT OFF THE FUEL PUMP DURING A CRASH SO AS NOT TO FEED A FIRE. I GOOGLED FOR "FORD RANGER DEFECTIVE INERTIA SWITCH," AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WHERE THEIR RANGER WOULD SUDDENLY STOP AND EVENTUALLY WOULD REQUIRE THE INERTIA SWITCH TO BE REPLACED AND IN SOME INSTANCES, IT WAS REPLACED AS MANY AS THREE TIMES DURING OWNERSHIP. *JB UPDATED 07/19/12
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE HARMONIC BALANCER FAILED. THE PULLEY SEPARATED FROM THE REST OF THE BALANCER AND SLID BACK TO DESTROY THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. ONCE THE SENSOR FAILED, THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT THIS SUDDEN FAILURE IS DANGEROUS AND IF I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET THERE ARE SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF THE SAME ISSUES ON THE FORD 4.0 ENGINE ON RANGER / EXPLORER. LOOKING AT THE NHTSA COMPLAINTS SITES THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF THE SAME ISSUE (MORE THEN 1 YEAR, MORE THEN 1 MODEL): ODI ID NUMBER : 10356858, ODI ID NUMBER : 10356913. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, WITH APPROXIMATELY 600 POUNDS OF WEIGHT IN THE BACK OR BED, ON A ROAD THAT REALLY WASN'T REAL SLICK SO I DIDN'T HAVE IT IN 4WD, AND SUDDENLY THE PICKUP VEERED TO THE LEFT AND HIT A CONCRETE JERSEY BARRIER. IT BOUNCED OFF AND WENT TOWARD THE RIGHT AND HIT A GUARD RAIL AND THEN ROLLED OVER ON TO ITS TOP. THE SHERIFF DEPUTY NOTICED THAT THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS MISSING AND THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE THAT THE AXLE BROKE AT THAT LOW SPEED AND SITUATION. UPON INSPECTION OF THE BROKEN SURFACE ON THE PICKUP, HE NOTICED WHAT LOOKED LIKE RUST AS IF THE AXLE HAD CRACKED SOMETIME EARLIER AND FINALLY BROKE OFF. I LOOKED AT THE BROKEN SURFACES AND COULD SEE WHAT LOOKED LIKE POSSIBLE RUST AND SOMETHING WHITE. THE PICKUP NEVER HAS HANDLED SO STRANGELY SO I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR A SIMILAR OCCURRENCE. IT DIDN'T TAKE TOO LONG USING GOOGLE TO FIND ANOTHER INSTANCE WHERE A PERSON HAD REPORTED THE AXLE ON THE SAME SIDE ON, I BELIEVE, A 2004 RANGER HAD BROKEN AND THE PICKUP ROLLED. I TOOK SOME PICTURES OF THE BROKEN AXLE SURFACES, BUT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ATTACH THEM TO THIS FORM. *TR
I WAS COMING DOWN OFF 57 IN RUSH TRAFFIC WHEN THE CAR DIED UNEXPECTEDLY. COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, NO WARNING, AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. SEVERAL TRIES, MORE GAS, MORE SHUT OFFS,SCREAMING HORNS AND I GOT IT TO THE GAS STATION OFF THE HIGHWAY. IT WENT TO GARAGE. ITS EXHAUST VALVE, WIRES AND PLUGS WERE CHANGED. DIED ON DRIVE OFF THE GARAGE. WENT IN, HAD MORE REPAIRS. DIED IN PARKING LOT. HAD COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. 172 AND 174 WERE DIAGNOSED-FAILURE OF COMPUTER IN EXHAUST SYSTEM AND MASS AIR VALVE CONTROL. BASICALLY, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FAILED AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. ONE OF THE HEADS IS ALSO SUSPICIOUS.EXHAUST LEAKS ARE BAD FOR THE ENGINE. ALL THIS, OVER $1,000 REPAIRS, ON TOP OF TRANSMISSION LEAK, TWO SETS OF BRAKE PADS AND TWO SETS OF TIRES, IN A TRUCK BETWEEN 39,000 - THAT IS WHEN IT STARTED- AND 50,000 MILES. IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW THIS, RIGHT AFTER THE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE TRUCK FELL APART. I FOUND OUT THAT ONE PERSON DIED OF SUCH FAILURE IN WASHINGTON STATE AND 2 WERE INJURED IN OREGON. ALL IN RANGER TRUCK. TRUCK IS WELL SERVICED, TIRES ARE NOT WORN AT ALL, HAVE LESS THAN 12,000 AND IT IS A KILLER TRUCK. FORD IS NOT RESPONSIVE TO THE FACT THAT THEIR TRUCK IS A LEMON. THEIR SERVICE CENTER: I BROUGHT IT TO YORBA LINDA FORD DEALER AT 39,000 BECAUSE THE IDLE WAS ROUGH, WAS TOLD IT WAS IN MY HEAD AND 12,000 LATER THE IDLE IS STILL DYING, KILLING THE ENGINE. *TR
ENGINE DIED WHEN SLOWING FOR A TURNING VECHICLE AN BUSY CITY STREET. ENGINE WOULD NOT START AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE VECHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC LANE UNTIL TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. REPAIR FACILITY ENGINE ANALYSIS IDENTIFIED THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SHUTOFF SWITCH WHICH AS THE FAULT. IT WOULD NOT RESET AND WAS REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK RADIAL H714 TIRES, TIRE SIZE 225/70/15. THE DOT NUMBER WAS 1GUUAPH. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPLODED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER EDGE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STALLING WAS CAUSED BY THE RESET BUTTON BECOMING TOO HOT AND STOPPING THE FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE SECOND FUEL PUMP BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
THE FUEL INERTIA SWITCH WOULD MALFUNCTION FOR NO REASON. THE CAR WOULD JUST DIE, LOSING ALL POWER (MANY TIMES HAPPENING AT 65 MPH ON FREEWAY). IT HAPPENED AT LEAST 15 DIFFERENT TIMES. THE "RESET" BUTTON WOULD HAVE TO BE USED TO GET VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. EVENTUALLY, THE COMPONENT "MELTED," AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP NOT TO LET THE FUEL LEVEL GET LOWER THAN 1/4 TANK, TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE, WHICH FORD IS AWARE OF< BUT DOES NOTHING! *TR
2005 FORD RANGER WITH A 2.3 L ENGINE. CHANGED OIL AT 33K AND RETRIEVED A VALVE KEEPER. SUBSEQUENT REMOVAL OF OVERHEAD CAMS AND TIMING CHAIN ASSEMBLY (5.8 HOURS OF LABOR) AND 500+ DOLLARS OUT OF MY POCKET REVEALED NO VALVE KEEPERS WERE MISSING. TWO TIMES IN 2 DAYS I WAS DRIVING WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED/SHUTOFF. FORTUNATELY BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC. IT FELT LIKE MY PEDAL WENT DEAD, I LOST MY POWER STEERING AS WELL. SINCE I WAS ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET THROUGH MY PHONE I WAS ABLE TO SEARCH "FORD RANGER SUDDENLY DIES WHILE DRIVING." AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF RESULTS INDICATED TO RESET MY INERTIA FUEL SHUTOFF SWITCH. I FOUND IT, RESET IT AND THE TRUCK STARTED AGAIN. AFTER THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I RESEARCHED FORD RANGER RECALLS, ONLY TO FIND THIS WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. I FEEL VERY APPREHENSIVE ABOUT DRIVING MY TRUCK, NOT KNOWING WHY IT SUDDENLY DECIDES TO TRIP THE FUEL SHUTOFF SWITCH. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
FUEL INERTIA SWITCH MALFUNCTION, SWITCH SHORTED OUT AND CAUGHT FIRE. THE INERTIA SWITCH WOULD TRIGGER AND SHUT OFF THE FUEL SUPPLY TO THE TRUCK, THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 25TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW, THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS SITTING STILL IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC AND IT JUST SHUT OFF. I REACHED UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD TO RESET IT AND COULD FEEL THE HEAT FROM THE ELECTRICAL FIRE. I QUICKLY SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND THE FIRE DIED OUT. THE SAFETY SWITCH IS TOTALLY FRIED. *TR
FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH - THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTING TO THE FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH ARE MELTED. FORD REPLACED ONE OF THESE SWITCHES DURING MY WARRANTY PERIOD AND SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED THIS SWITCH TWICE. I NOW NOTICE THAT THE HARNESS CONNECTED TO THIS SWITCH HAS WIRES THAT ARE MELTED. THIS SWITCH HAS ACTIVATED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE VEHICLE FUEL IS INTERRUPTED AND VEHICLE STALLS. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN ON INTERSTATE 4 AND ON VARIOUS OTHER ROADS. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MY VEHICLE IS THE ONLY ONE THIS HAPPENS TO. I RECENTLY PICKED UP A NEW SWITCH WHICH HAS BEEN REVAMPED WITH AN ADDITIONAL WIRING HARNESS AND A NEW CONNECTION BRACKET. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE OLD HARNESS THAT THIS WILL BE ATTACHED TO HAS BARE WIRES EXPOSED WITH NO INSULATION COVERING THEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS CONSTITUTES A FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN LAKELAND, FL. BUT HAVE HAD NO REASONABLE EXPLANATION ON THIS PROBLEM. *LN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL CUTOFF SWITCH CONTINUOUSLY CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SWITCH AND RESUME DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
2005 FORD RANGER EDGE. ENGINE STALLING DUE TO FAULTY FUEL CUTOFF SWITCH WHICH GOT HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE PLASTIC SWITCH ITSELF. TRUCK STALLED 20-30 TIMES TOTAL WITH HALF OF THOSE TIMES AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. *TR
THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN AND YOU LOSE TOTAL CONTROL. POWER STEERING GONE. ENGINE GONE. IT WILL HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. THE REASON IT IS SO DANGEROUS IS BECAUSE I HAVE HAD IT SHUT DOWN ON THE FREEWAY GOING 65MPH. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH NEVER TO HAVE GOTTEN HIT BUT IT WAS A CLOSE CALL. 1. THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST STALL LIKE IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF GAS. 2. WHEN THE PART WAS GOING BAD IT WOULD OCCUR EVERY DAY. WHEN THE PART WAS TOTALLY MALFUNCTIONING IT WOULD NOT EVEN START. 3. THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE PART VIA THE WARRANTY. THE SECOND TIME I PAID TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE THIRD TIME I REPLACED IT MYSELF. IT LASTS ABOUT A YEAR THEN IT GOES BAD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 65MPH ON THE FREEWAY (WHICH WAS SMOOTH) AND MY INERTIA SWITCH WENT OUT. THIS SHUT OFF MY POWER STEERING, MY POWER BRAKES AND I WAS ALMOST KILLED BY A SEMI TRUCK BECAUSE OF THIS. IT HAPPENED 10 TIMES TODAY, USUALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, AND FORD HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO, THE SAME THING HAPPENED (ON THE FREEWAY), AND ONCE AGAIN ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THEY HAVE ALREADY TRIED FIXING THIS BEFORE AND IT CONTINUES TO OCCUR. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS OCCURRING AND BELIEVE THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT, AND ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. I HAVE A 2005 FORD RANGER. THANK YOU FOR READING MY PROBLEM, I AM VERY DISTURBED BY THIS AND HOPE FORD WILL FIX THIS. *TR
MY FORD RANGER (2005) LOST POWER GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY. AFTER MUCH INVESTIGATION, TIME, SAFETY ISSUES (QUITTING AT 55 + MPH) AND MONEY IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE INERTIA SWITCH. *TR
MY 19 YEAR OLD SON OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER WE PURCHASED THROUGH A DEALER LAST YEAR. FOR THE LAST MONTH OR SO HE HAD TO RESET THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS SINCE ONE TIME HE WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY GOING 65 AND THE TRUCK TURNED OFF ON HIM. IT'S HAPPENED TO HIM ABOUT 5 TIMES AND NOW HE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. DON'T KNOW IF THE INERTIA SWITCH IS BAD OR IF SOMETHING ELSE IS CAUSING THIS. I HATE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER SINCE THEY TEND TO THROW PARTS AT IT AND NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I THINK THIS IS SO DANGEROUS IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THE FORD DEALER. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 RANGER TRUCK AND IT OCCASIONALLY FEELS LIKE IT IS RUNNING OUT OF GAS. I HAD MY MECHANIC CHECK ALL PHASES OF WHAT COULD BE WRONG AND HE FOUND NOTHING. I NEVER HEARD OF THE INERTIA SWITCH UNTIL READING ON HERE. I WILL MENTION THIS TO MY MECHANIC TODAY. THANKS FOR THE INFO. I DID NOT WRITE DOWN DATES AND TIMES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PERFORM THE OIL CHANGE, THE ENGINE BLEW. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CAM-SHAFT PULLEY SEPARATED AND CAUSE THE TIMING TO JUMP AND LOCK THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE ENGINE WAS UNABLE TO BE REBUILT. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 112,000. UPDATED 9/13/10 *CN UPDATED 09/15/10
DRIVING EAST ON I-10 NEAR ONTARIO, CAL AT 70 MPH 5/22/2010 9PM, TRUCK DIED THE INERTIA FUEL SWITCH WAS OPEN . HAD TO DRIVE WITH SON HOLDING DOWN ON THE BUTTON TO KEEP TRUCK RUNNING TO GET OFF FREEWAY AT 4TH ST. INERTIA SWITCH IS DEAD USED A PAPER CLIP ON WIRES TO DRIVE HOME. ALSO THE WIRE CONNECTOR TO THE INERTIA WAS MELTING SOME. FIRST TIME THIS HAPPEN IS IN OCT 14 2005 AND 4 OR 5 TIMES SENSE. *TR
THE TRUCK WOULD SUDDENLY STOP RUNNING. IT OCCURRED RANDOMLY, SOMETIMES WEEKLY, SOMETIMES MONTHLY, I NEVER KNEW WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN. IT WOULD EVENTUALLY RESTART. AFTER REPLACING THE FUEL FILTER AND THE FUEL PUMP (TWICE) TO NO AVAIL, I ASKED MY NEIGHBOR TO LOOK AT THE INERTIA SWITCH (FORD WOULD NOT; THEY SAID THAT "COULDN'T BE THE PROBLEM"). THE SWITCH WAS ALL FRIED OUT INSIDE, AND THE CONNECTOR AND THE WIRE LEADING TO IT WERE MELTED. APPARENTLY, THE CONNECTOR WAS BAD. HE SAID THAT IT SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE ALREADY. HE REPLACED THE SWITCH AND PUT IN A DIFFERENT CONNECTOR AND I'VE HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT, AS I MOSTLY DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY AND IN THE MOUNTAINS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, THE CONTACT HAD TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE BRAKE BOOSTER, ROTORS, AND FRONT DISC WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 46,000.
MY 2005 FORD RANGER STALLED ON ME WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT 65MPH AND HAS DONE THIS BEFORE DRIVING AROUND TOWN WHENEVER THE FUEL KILL SWITCH IS BUMPED BY SOMEONE'S FOOT WHILE SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT. WHENEVER FUEL KILL SWITCH GETS BUMPED IT STOPS THE FUEL PUMP THEN TRUCK STALLS.(VERY DANGEROUS SOMEONE'S GOING TO GET HURT IF NOT FIXED) THE FUEL KILL SWITCH IS LOCATED ON PASSENGER SIDE FIRE WALL WHERE YOUR RIGHT FOOT IS. IF YOU STRETCH YOUR LEG YOU WILL HIT THE SWITCH. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS PROBLEM. RELOCATE SWITCH BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AND YOUR TRUCK STALLS CAUSE SWITCH GETS BUMPED. IT DON'T TAKE MUCH TO SET SWITCH OFF. I HAVE BEEN TO TASA FORD IN R.I. AND EXPLAINED THIS PROBLEM TO THEM AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER VEHICLES AND FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT HAS NOT HAD A RECALL!! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. HOPE YOU CAN HELP THANK YOU. *TR
THE INERTIA SWITCH ON MY 2005 FORD RANGER CUT THE FUEL SUPPLY AT 55 MPH ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. AFTER PULLING THE SWITCH OUT AND PULLING OUT THE CONNECTOR, I FOUND EVIDENCE OF TEMPERATURES HIGH ENOUGH TO MELT THE PLASTIC. THIS PROBLEM FIRST STARTED IN NOVEMBER OF 2008 AND HAS GOTTEN STEADILY WORSE SINCE THEN. THIS EVIDENTLY A DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY FORD. *TR

INERTIA SWITCH TRIPPED IN 2008 WHILE PARKED!? WALKED HOME, LOOKED UP ON INTERNET, FOUND OUT HOW TO RESET. FEBRUARY 2010 THE INERTIA SWITCH TRIPPED AGAIN WHILE COASTING DOWN SMOOTH ROAD. PULLED OVER AND RESET SWITCH. DAUGHTER REPORTS INERTIA SWITCH TRIPPED A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, FORTUNATELY I TOLD HER HOW TO RESET IT. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING, ESPECIALLY IF IT HAPPENED ON A CROWDED FREEWAY! I FEEL THAT FORD KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM, HAVE CREATED A RELOCATION KIT. FOR A HUNDRED BUCKS! I FEEL FORD SHOULD PAY FOR IT. I HAVE ONLY 7K MILES ON THIS TRUCK, IN FIVE YEARS! *TR

CONTINENTAL TIRES.....I OWN 2 VEHICLES THAT HAVE COME EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL TIRES AND FOUND THAT OVER TIME BOTH SETS OF TIRES HAVE WORN OUT DUE TOO POOR QUALITY OF THE TIRE. I HAVE GONE ON LINE AND LOOKED UP ON THE WEB SITE UNDER CONTINENTAL TIRE AND CLICKED ON COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE TIRES AND IT IS ALARMING HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE FINDING THAT THE TIRES FROM CONTINENTAL ARE POORLY MADE AND THE QUALITY OF THESE TIRES IS PUTTING PEOPLE IN HARMS WAY , DUE TO BLOWOUTS , TREAD SEPARATION, PREMATURE WARE . I LIVE IN TUCSON AZ AND JUST ABOUT EVERY TIRE DEALER WITHIN 20 MILES OF ME WONT EVEN RECOMMEND A TIRE BUILT BY CONTINENTAL. REPLACING THESE TIRES WITH SOMETHING DIFFERENT IS THE ONLY OPTION TO BE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE HAPPEN TO YOU ,WHAT MOST PEOPLE HAVE HAD HAPPEN TO THEM , AFTER YOU READ THE COMPLAINTS POSTED ON THE WEB SITE OF CONTINENTAL TIRE, I FIND IT NECESSARY TO FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THESE TIRES AND THE COMPANY. I FEEL THAT SOMEONE NEEDS TO READ THE COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB SITE, AND TAKE A LOOK TO SEE IF THERE IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE , TO GET ANSWERS AS TO WHY CONTINENTAL FEELS THAT THERE'S NO PROBLEM WITH THERE TIRES. ON MY 2005 FORD RANGER THE TIRES HAD 30,000 MILES ON THEM AND IN THE OWNERS MANUAL , THE TIRES HAD A 6 YEAR PRO-RATED WARRANTY ON THEM. THE TIRE DEALER HERE IN TUCSON WAS TOLD BY CONTINENTAL THAT THEY DIDN'T COVER THE TIRE FROM NORMAL WEAR. THE DEALER EXPLAINED TO CONTINENTAL THAT THE TIRES IN QUESTION WERE PRE-MATURELY WEARING OUT ON THE INSIDE EDGES AND THE MIDDLE OF THE FACE OF THE TIRE. CONTINENTAL MORE LESS SAID TOO BAD AND WOULDN'T DO ANY THING ABOUT IT. THIS HAPPENED ON MY WIFE'S FORD ESCAPE ALSO, AND WE HAD REPLACED HER ORIGINAL TIRES THAT CAME ON HER CAR , WITH THE SAME CONTINENTAL BRAND, AND THEY ONLY LASTED 23,000 MILES . THESE TIRES WERE RATED FOR 50,000. I NOT SURE WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS, BUT I FEEL PEOPLE NEED TO LET SOME CONSUMER COMPLAINT GROUPS KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT EXISTS HERE. *TR
2005 FORD RANGER PICKUP TRUCK. THE FUEL PUMP INERTIA SWITCH TRIPS ON SMOOTH ROAD WITH NO BUMPS. IT SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE. IT HAPPENED EIGHT TIMES THIS MONTH. ONCE ON A BUSY INTERSTATE BELTWAY. I'VE RESEARCHED MANY OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FORD SHOULD FIX IT FREE. *TR
MY 2005 FORD RANGER TRUCK IS SEVERELY RUSTED ON THE UNDERSIDE. I HAD A 1992 RANGER PREVIOUS TO THIS ONE, AND NEVER HAD THIS AMOUNT OF RUST ON SUCH A CRITICAL AREA. EVERYTHING IS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME AND IT APPEARS TO BE PREMATURELY FAILING, ALTHOUGH NOTHING HAS FALLEN OFF AS OF YET. THE REST OF THE TRUCK LOOKS IMMACULATE, BUT UNDERNEATH...LOOKS 100 YEARS OLD! THIS IS A PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. HE STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH HE NOTICED THAT HIS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN A DEALER AND INSPECTED WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT NUMBER FOUR CYLINDER WAS FAILING AND IN ORDER TO MAKE THE REPAIR THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE VALVE SEATS REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER. HE FEELS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE ALUMINUM HEAD VALVE SEATS BECAUSE THEY LOSE COMPRESSION WITH THE METAL THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS USING FOR THE ALUMINUM HEAD VALVE SEATS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 87,000. BL UPDATED 10/5/09 *CN UPDATED 10/07/09
I HAVE A 2005 FORD RANGER 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. ON A RECENT TRIP A TRAILER TRUCK CHANGED LANES ON THE PA TURNPIKE WITHIN FEET OF MY FRONT END. IN ORDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT I HIT THE BRAKES VERY HARD. THE INERTIA SWITCH STOPPED THE FUEL PUMP AND SOME HOW I WAS ABLE TO COAST ACROSS 2 LANES TO THE BERM. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE GUARANTEE WAS 3 YEAR OR 36,00 MILES AND AT THE TIME I HAD ABOUT 37,500 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND WAS OBVIOUSLY OVER THE THREE YEARS. I HAD THE SWITCH REPAIRED AT A COST OF OVER $200.00. AFTER THE OCCURRENCE ABOVE THE SWITCH WENT OFF 5 TIMES DURING NORMAL DRIVING. I HAVE THE BAD SWITCH IN MY POSSESSION IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION WHICH I THINK FORD SHOULD PAY FOR. LOOSING ALL POWER ON A SUPER HIGHWAY IS DANGEROUS TO SAY THE LEAST. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD RANGER. I WAS INVOLVED IN A VERY CLOSE TO AN ACCIDENT ON THE PA TURNPIKE WHEN A TRAILER TRUCK CHANGED LANES IN FRONT OF ME WITHIN INCHES. I HIT THE BRAKES VERY HARD IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING HIM. THE INERTIA SWITCH WHICH SHUT OFF THE FUEL PUMP ACTUATED WHICH IT IS DESIGNED TO DO. MY PROBLEM IS THE INERTIA SWITCH CONTINUES TO ACTUATE FOR NO REASON. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I WOULD NEED TO PAY UPWARDS OF $200.00. I WOULD THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIE ROD WAS WEARING. HE ALSO HEARD A LOUD CLANGING NOISE WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE FUEL INERTIA CUTOFF SWITCH IN OUR '05 FORD RANGER PICKUP HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE SINCE IT'S PURCHASE IN AUG. OF '05. ONE MONTH AFTER PURCHASE WAS THE FIRST FAILURE WHEN DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT 5MPH. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE DEALERSHIP ADJUSTED THE SENSITIVITY. THE FOLLOWING SPRING THE FICOS TRIPPED AGAIN WHEN DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT 25MPH. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SWITCH. DEC. '08 THE FICOS AGAIN TRIPPED WHILE PARKED FOR 8 HOURS. JAN. '09 THE FICOS TRIPPED WHILE ON A TWO LANE ROAD AT 40MPH CAUSING THE NECESSITY TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT NOT OFF THE ROAD, ON A BLIND CORNER. DURING THE DEC. '08 AND JAN. '09 INCIDENT THE EMERGENCY FUEL INJECTION PUMP, UNDER THE DASH, WAS IMPLEMENTED. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS OVER A DURATION OF 30 MIN. THE FICOS RESET AND ALLOWED THE PICKUP TO START. IN FEB. '09 THE FICOS TRIPPED AGAIN AFTER THE PICKUP WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT. THE PICKUP WAS AGAIN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE FICOS HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. MY CONCERN IS THIS WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN AND AT SOME POINT I WILL NOT BE IN A POSITION TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AS OTHERS HAVE FOUND THEMSELVES IN. I OWN A 2005 2 DOOR FORD RANGER XLT. WITH APPROXIMATELY 29,000 TOTAL MILES. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED UNDER THE NEW CAR WARRANTY UNTIL AUGUST 2008 OR 30,000 TOTAL MILES. PROBLEM: THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BACK OCCASIONALLY STICKS IN THE FULL UPRIGHT OR RECLINED POSITION WHEN THE SEAT BACK RELEASE LEVER IS PULLED UP, (ACTIVATED). IT TAKES UP TO SEVERAL MINUTES OF JIGGLING THE BACK AND RELEASE LEVER TO GET THE BACK TO SWING FORWARD. ALSO THE RELEASE LEVER HAS BEEN FOUND TO STICK IN A POSITION THAT WON'T ALLOW THE BACK TO MOVE. OUR GRANDSONS HAVE BEEN RIDING IN BACK AT TIMES, (UNTIL I REALIZED THE POTENTIAL DANGER OF NOT ALLOWING THEM TO EXIT IN A HURRY). I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALER, (I WILL GO THERE TOMORROW FOR THE FORTH TIME) TO HAVE THE MECHANISM FIXED OR THE SEAT REPLACED. THE DEALER STATES THAT THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS IT OCCURS WHEN THEY ARE WORKING ON THE TRUCK. THE PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I BELIEVE. I HAVE INFORMED THE DEALER, VERBALLY, OF THE POTENTIAL DANGER, BUT THEY APPEAR TO BE ADVERSE TO MAKING A CORRECTION. I COULD FIND NO RECALL NOTICE OR OTHER INFORMATION OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH TWO OLDER RANGERS I OWNED IN THE PAST. *TR

INERTIA SWITCH CONTINUES TO FAIL UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I'VE HAD THIS SWITCH GO OFF SO MANY TIMES, I'M HESITANT TO CONTINUE DRIVING MY TRUCK! LAST NIGHT IT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A CROWDED FREEWAY A LITTLE AFTER RUSH HOUR. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OFF THE FREEWAY DUE TO AN OFFRAMP, BUT SINCE THE BRAKES WERE PRACTICALLY NON-EXISTENT I SLOWLY HIT INTO A CURB. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING! TRUCK COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF FOR NO REASON!!!! NOW THE SWITCH WON'T STAY OFF AND I GUESS I'LL NEED TO TAKE IT TO FORD. HOWEVER FROM READING ALL THE OTHER POSTS, NOT SURE WHAT GOOD THAT'LL DO. *TR
PURCHASE VEHICLE JULY 2005, VEHICLE NEVER HAD A GOOD PULL TO IT AND I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WAY THE TRUCK JUST PULLED UNTIL MAY 2006 WHEN I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY A FORD EXPLORER, MY TRUCK GOT WORSE. IN JUNE 2007 ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WOULDN'T GO OFF. GAS CAP LIGHT CAME ON WOULDN'T GO OFF. TRIED TO TIGHTEN CAP, LIGHTS STILL HAVEN'T WENT OFF. TOOK TRUCK TO MECHANIC FOUND OUT THAT MY TRUCK HAD A CRACKED HEAD THAT WAS INDICATED THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURE AND OR POSSIBLY DUE TO COLLISION ALSO FORD MANUFACTURE HAD A DEFECT CALL BACK ON ALL 2005 FORD RANGER. IN DECEMBER 2005 FIVE MONTH AFTER I PURCHASE THE TRUCK AND THEY ( FORD) DID NOT EVEN NOTIFY ME OF THE DEFECT. I DO HAVE A COPY IN MY POSSESSION FROM MY MECHANIC. PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES ON 2003 THROUGH 2005 FORD RANGER PICKUP TRUCKS. I HAVE OWNED A BRAND NEW 2003 FORD RANGER EDGE STANDARD CAB PICKUP AND NOW OWN A 2005 FORD RANGER XLT EXTENDED CAB PICKUP. BOTH PICKUPS I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. THE 2003 FORD RANGER, THE READ BRAKE SHOE LININGS CAME DETACHED FROM THE SHOE CAUSING DAMAGE AND HAVING TO HAVE THE BRAKE COMPONENTS REINSTALLED AT MY COST. THE 2005 FORD RANGER HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUES BUT WITH HARDWARE FAILURE OF THE SPRINGS AND TENSIONERS. BOTH SITUATIONS THE BRAKES FAILED AND ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE 2003 FORD RANGER, I WAS SHOWN THE SHOES BY A SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND TOLD THE BRAKES WOULD HAVE LASTED AT LEAST UNTIL 50,000 MILES BUT THE "SALT" FROM NY WINTERS EATS AWAY THE GLUE THAT HOLDS THE SHOE LININGS TO THE SHOE AND CAUSES IT TO SEPARATE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES WITH FORD BRAKES ON ALL MODELS DUE TO THE WINTER SEASON. IN BOTH CASES, I HAD MY BRAKES SERVICED THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP AND PAID TO HAVE THEM "CLEANED, INSPECTED, AND LUBRICATED" PER THE SERVICE MANUAL. I HAVE SPENT LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY WITH PROBLEMS ON MY BRAKES EVERY YEAR ON BOTH OF THESE VEHICLES THAT I OWNED. I NO LONGER OWN THE 2003 FORD RANGER BUT I CURRENTLY OWN THE 2005. IF THIS PROBLEM HAD HAPPENED DURING DRIVING, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH A VERY LARGE SUM OF MONEY TO REPLACE BRAKES THAT CONTINUE TO BE PROBLEMS ON THIS MODEL. MOST OF MY DRIVING IS HIGHWAY AND VERY LITTLE OFF ROAD. THE PARTS IN THE BRAKES APPEAR TO BE OF LOW QUALITY AND OF MANUFACTURER DEFECT (GLUE NOT HOLDING, SPRINGS BREAKING, PARTS BREAKING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS). I THINK THERE IS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE PARTS TO INCLUDE SPRINGS, TENSIONERS, PADS AND SHOES ON THE 2003 TO 2005 FORD RANGERS ENOUGH TO CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE OR LOSS OF LIFE DUE TO FAILURE OF COMPONENTS. *JB
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 FORD RANGER THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5 DAYS WE WERE ABLE TO PICK THE FORD UP AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. SHORTLY AFTER THIS THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING FOR NO APPARENT REASON .DURING ONE OF THESE TIMES IT SHUT DOWN I WAS REAR ENDED,IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WAS THERE FOR 3 DAYS, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THE DEALER INFORMED ME THE VEHICLE HAD NO PROBLEMS, AND WAS VERY SAFE TO DRIVE. ALSO, I CONTACTED FORD , AND WAS INFORMED THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE 2005 FORD RANGER JUST SHUTTING DOWN. THIS VEHICLE WAS FAR FROM SAFE NOT ONLY FOR THE DRIVER AND ANY PASSENGERS BUT ALSO FOR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. AS IT JUST SHUT OFF WHEN IT WANTEDF. *AK

2005 FORD RANGER PICK UP. DIES WITHOUT ANY NOTICE AND AT ANY SPEED OR JUST AT A STOP SIGN. HAS BEEN TO THE SHOP AND HAD FUEL PUMP, VENT TUBE, INERTIA SWITCH AND A CIRCUT REPLACED. STILL ONCE IN A WHILE (NOT WEEKLY OR DAILY) IT WILL STILL FAIL. SERVICE DEPARTMENT EVEN SAID THEY WERE ONLY GUESSING WHEN IT WENT IN FOR REPAIRS AS IT WAS SHOWING A COMPUTER SIGN (SOMETIMES) OF A SECONDARY FUEL FAILURE. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE TRUCK AND SHOULD BE TAKEN BACK AS A LEMON! DEALER EVEN STATED THAT FORD DOES NOT EVEN KNOW THE CAUSE. DEAR SIRS; I AM A NIGHT SHIFT AUTOWORKER AT FORD RANGER PLANT IN ST PAUL. MY JOB IS TO BUILD AND MOUNT A SWAYBAR ON THE REAR AXLE. FOR OVER A YEAR I HAVE EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS TO MANAGEMENT ABOUT THE PROPER ANGLE TO MOUNT THE SWAYBAR BRACKETS. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN STONEWALLED, TOLD THINGS LIKE "IT DOESEN'T MATTER". IT DOES MATTER TO OUR CUSTOMERS. THEY WANT THAT SWAYBAR TO BE PERFECT. IT MIGHT MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IF THERE HAS TO BE A HARD SWERVE TO AVOID A DEER OR CHILD IN THE ROAD. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME NUMERICAL POINT OF REFERENCE ON RECORD IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS GUIDELINES. THE OPERATOR EITHER NEEDS A TONGUE AND GROOVE SYSTEM ON THE AXLE AND SWAYBAR BRACKET AND/OR SOME TYPE OF FIXTURE THAT WOULD ACT AS A GUIDE TO INSURE THE CORRECT ANGLE IS ACHIEVED FOR EVERY BUILD PROCESS. THERE ALSO NEEDS TO BE AN INSTRUMENT THAT CAPABLE OF CHECKING EACH ONE FOR CORRECT ANGLE. *NM

ON MAY 6,2005 OUR TRUCK JUST DIED, TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE INERTIA NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE SWITCH WAS SENSITIVE AND WENT OFF. ON JUNE 28 OUR TRUCK DIED WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO PUT A NEW INERTIA SWITCH IN. ON AUGUST 29, 2005 OUR INERTIA SWITCH KEPT SWITCHING OFF. NOW WE HAVE A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIPS PAPERWORK. WAITED 3 DAYS UNTIL JULY 1, 2005 FOR A NEW INERTIA SWITCH. REPLACED SWITCH. ON AUGUST 23,2005 INERTIA SWITCH KEPT TURNING OFF AGAIN! WE TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS SITUATION BECAUSE WE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK BRAND NEW FOR OUR SON TO DRIVE TO SCHOOL/WORK AND NOW WE WERE WORRIED FOR HIS SAFETY. UNFORTUNATELY ON SEPTEMBER 9,2005 ARE FEARS CAME TRUE. OUR SON WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE DIED AND HE AVOIDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND HIT THE CENTER DIVIDER GOING AROUND 70 MPH.
