TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR REMAINED OPEN WHICH RESULTED IN A LOSS OF THE NORMAL FUNCTIONS OF INSTRUMENT PANEL DUE TO THE PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE OVERLAYING ALL OTHER SYSTEM FUNCTIONS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V383000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
I OWN A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES WOULD ILLUMINATE AND DROP TO ZERO AND THE SEAT BELT INDICATORS WOULD ILLUMINATE AND CHIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000
WHEN LOWERING THE ORIGINAL CAR'S MANUAL SCISSOR JACK IT GAVE OUT HALF WAY DOWN CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DROP ONTO MY DRIVEWAY SUDDENLY. THE THREADING ON THE POWER SCREW SEEM FINE BUT THE PIN THAT IT FEEDS THROUGH ON THE OTHER END LOOKS MANGLED (SEE PICTURES). WHEN THE JACK DROPPED IT SOUNDED LIKE THE POWER SCREW SLID. NO ONE WAS HARMED.
ENGINE SAFE MODE
THE LINKAGE THAT CONTROLS THE GEAR SHIFT ALLOWED THE CAR TO ROLL WHILE THE CAR WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN IN PARK. MOREOVER. THE CAR WAS IN PARK BUT WOULDN'T START. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK PUT THE CAR ON THE FLAT BED, THE CAR TRIED TO ROLL OFF EVEN THOUGH THE CAR SHIFT LEVEL WAS IN PARK. THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS OFF. AND THE KEY WASN'T IN THE IGNITION.. THE CAR WAS REPAID TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $800.00. IT HAD TO DO WITH SOME LINKAGE THAT RUNS UNDERNEATH THE BATTERY BOX. ALSO THE CAR WOULDN'T START.
I PURCHASED BRIDGESTONE ECOPIA 225 55 R18 AND ABOUT FOUR MONTHS AFTER I'VE HAD THEM HAD BUBBLE SHOW IN FRONT TIRE TOOK IT BACK TO FIRESTONE THEY REPLACED IT AFTER REPLACING IT NOW IT'S BEEN A MONTH I HAVE ANOTHER BUBBLE IN THE SAME TIRE THAT THEY JUST REPLACED AND THEY ARE THE BRIDGESTONE ECOPIA EP422 TIRE SIZE 22555 R18
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DRIVER'S DOOR, THE LATCHING MECHANISM DID NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE ENGINE RPMS ERRONEOUSLY INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE CAR HAS BEEN LURCHING FORWARD AND DECELERATING RANDOMLY. KEEPS GOING INTO "FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE" AND THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON BUT ONLY FOR A FEW MOMENTS, THEN RUNS NORMALLY AGAIN AFTER RESTARTING. HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO HAVE THE LIGHT ON LONG ENOUGH TO GET DIAGNOSTICS DONE. HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN STARTING OCCASIONALLY.
LATCHES/LOCKS RECALL RECALL #06V383000 FORD REFERENCE #06S45 THE LATCH ON MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR KEEPS FREEZING, KEEPING THE DOOR FROM STAYING CLOSED. IT HAS ALREADY BOUNCED OPEN ONCE WHILE I WAS IN MOTION ON NY STATE ROUTE 434. I ALSO HAVE SPENT A GREAT AMOUNT OF TIME TRYING TO SHUT MY DOOR FOR THE PAST 4 DAYS BEFORE AND AFTER EVERY TRIP ONCE I AM PARKED. EVEN SO, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SHUT MY DOOR FOR THE PAST DAY. WHEN I FOUND THIS RECALL AND CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, THEY STATED THAT I WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL AND THAT IT DOESN'T EVEN SHOW UP IN THE SYSTEM. I'M NOT HERE TO COMPLAIN, I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO SHUT MY CARD DOOR SO I CAN DRIVE IT SAFELY. I'M TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE TO KEEP THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOWS DOWN ABOUT AN INCH AND WRAP A BUNGEE CORD AROUND THE DOORS TO KEEP MY DRIVER DOOR SHUT.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL MODE 65 OR ABOVE. AND WILL NOT STOP UNLESS BRAKES ARE APPLIED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL MODE.
MY SIDE DOOR LATCHES FREEZE IN COLD WEATHER DUE TO WATER INTRUSION. AS A RESULT, THE DOOR DOES NOT LATCH WHEN CLOSED, AND COULD OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. THIS WAS A WELL KNOW SAFETY ISSUE BY FORD. MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE RECALL DATA BASE SO THE REPAIR COST IS BEING PUSHED TO ME. THE CAR CERTAINLY HAS ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL FOR THAT MODEL AND YEAR... I SMELL A RAT... DO YOU? THE RECALL WAS MADE TO BE STATE SENSITIVE TO STATES THAT EXPERIENCE FREEZING WEATHER. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO IS REGISTERED IN SOUTHERN FLORIDA SO AS TO NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THEN ENDS UP IN NORTHERN MAINE? I'LL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENS... A LITTLE CHILD IN NORTHERN MAINE ASLEEP AGAINST THE DOOR SUDDENLY FALLS OUT OF THE CAR AT 55 MILES AN HOUR AND GETS RUN OVER BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC! THESE CARS ARE VERY HARDY AND I SUSPECT THERE ARE MANY OF THEM STILL ON THE ROAD WITH THIS ISSUE. SOMEONE REALLY MISSED THE BOAT ON THIS ONE.
FRONT DOOR LATCH FREEZES OPEN ALL THE TIME IN COLD WEATHER. I'M AFRAID IT OPENS WHILE DRIVING
IN FREEZING WEATHER, DOOR LATCHES WILL NOT LATCH AND THE DOOR REMAINS OPEN. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS LEFT OUTSIDE AND IS NOT "FIXED" UNTIL THE DOOR MECHANISMS WARM UP FROM BEING IN THE SUN. DUE TO THIS ISSUE WE ARE UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE DOORS LATCH AGAIN. I'VE BEEN TOLD MY CAR WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL (#06S45), BUT I FEEL THAT I HAVE THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED AND WOULD LIKE TO GET THE ISSUE FIXED SO I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT THE REST OF WINTER.
WITH ONLY 70,000 ON THE TRANSMISSION IT BEGAN TO HESITATE WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE AND BUCK WHEN I WOULD COME TO A STOP. THIS BECAME HAZARDOUS WHEN I WAS TRYING TO COME OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A BUSY STREET AND THE FORWARD PROPULSION WOULD HESITATE CLOSING THE SAFE GAP BETWEEN ONCOMING CARS AND MYSELF. THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 MERCURY VEHICLES BOTH IN THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND THE 6-SPEED. I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY HAVE NOT HAD A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSIONS SINCE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET WITH THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM. MY FIRST MONTEGO PASSED THE LEMON LAW WITH THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IT. NOW THE SECOND MONTEGO IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AFTER ONLY 70,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD TOO MANY CLOSE CALLS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WITH THE INCONSISTENCY IN ACCELERATION. AND THE BUCKING AND THUMPING WHEN BRAKING IS SEVERE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY OF US HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET FORD, MERCURY TO RECTIFY THIS KNOWN ISSUE?
ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO ALL THE DASH INDICATORS TURNED ON. THEY WENT OUT FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON. I WAS TOLD IT WAS IN THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS. IT WOULD BE A $700.00 PLUS COST TO FIX IT. IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM I WOULD THINK THERE WOULD BE A RECALL ON SUCH A SITUATION. I HAVE TO DRIVE NOT KNOWING IF THERE IS TROUBLE WITH THE LIGHTS ON FULL TIME.
WHEN HITTING THE BRAKES MY CAR HAD A WHINING NOISE AND ACCELERATED NOT RESPONDING TO MY EFFORTS TO STOP.I AVOIDED THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND ALSO TO THE RIGHT OF ME BY MOVING TO THE TURNING LANE TO STOP MYSELF FROM HITTING ANYONE ELSE. HOWEVER TO POSSIBLY AVOID ANOTHER ACCIDENT, I CROSSED OVER TO THE OTHER TRAFFIC LANES ON ORDER TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY WHERE I WAS STILL INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH TOTALED MY CAR.
CAR RUNS GREAT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES THEN I GET A SURGE IN THE ENGINE, DASH CLUSTER GOES DEAD, CAR JERKS AND I LOSE POWER RANDOMLY. EVERYTHING COMES BACK ON BUT WILL GO OUT MULTIPLE TIMES GETTING WORSE EVERYTIME. I HAVE LOST POWER TO TRANSMISSION ONCE, NO FORWARD OR REVERSE. REPLACED THE DASH CLUSTER AND CAR RAN GREAT FOR 2 DAYS THEN STARTED ALL AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS MAINLY WHILE IN THE CITY, HASN'T HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY YET THANK GOODNESS. CAR JUST SITS IN DRIVEWAY, AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I SEE COUNTLESS PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE ALL THE WAY BACK TO WHEN CAR WAS RELEASED AND STILL NO SOLUTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK TRANSMISSION, AND FAILED SAFE MODE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. DUE TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A BUSH WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE FAILURE RECURRED RANDOMLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 270,000.
MY CAR DIES ALL THE TIME. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. IT ALSO HAS A PICTURE OF A WRENCH AND WHEN THE CAR DIES IT SAYS FAIL SAFE MODE. IT ONLY DIES WHILE DRIVING. IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT SPEED EITHER.
MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO SHUTS OFF WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE PAID AROUND $4000 TO TRY AND HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED AND IT HAS NEVER STOPPED. THE REVERSE GEAR IS UNUSABLE, AS SOON AS YOU PUT IT IN REVERSE IT SHUTS THE CAR OFF. THE TRANSMISSION JERKS AND WILL NOT STEADILY ACCELERATE AT RANDOM TIMES. THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY SHUT OFF WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD LOSING ALL POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKING ABILITY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY A PROBLEM CONSIDERING I HAVE AN INFANT IN THE BACKSEAT MOST EVERY TRIP. I SAW THIS LAWSUIT AND EVERY SINGLE THING LISTED ABOUT THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAS HAPPENED AND IS STILL HAPPENING TO MY 2005 MONTEGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH AROUND A CORNER, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND FAIL SAFE MODE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL UNIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
RECALL #06V383000 LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES "AS A RESULT, THE DOOR LATCH PAWL MAY NOT RETURN TO THE LATCH POSITION WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED, AND THE DOOR COULD OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING." IS LISTED AS HAVING BEEN COMPLETED, YET THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. LAST NIGHT, REAR DOOR WAS FROZEN SHUT DUE TO WATER SEEPAGE. TODAY, DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR DID NOT LATCH PROPERLY AND OPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I CALLED FORD AND THEY INFORMED ME THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. OBVIOUSLY, THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED IMPROPERLY, IF AT ALL. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE ADDITIONAL RECALL LISTED (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V515000) MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PERFORMED PROPERLY AS WELL, AS BOTH RECALLS WERE (SUPPOSEDLY) FIXED AT THE SAME LOCATION.
DASH BOARD GAUGES AND CONTROLS. WHEN DRIVING OUR 2005 MONTEGO ALL OF THE DASH INSTRUMENTS AND GAUGES WILL GO OUT, AND YOU LOOSE SOME POWER, THE REAR LIGHTS GO ON. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY MOMENT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, ON THE INTERSTATE, SLOW SPEEDS. TO REPLACE IS QUITE EXPENSIVE, BUT IN DOING SOME RESEARCH I HAVE COME ACROSS THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE, AND IT'S EXTREMELY SCARY AND CONCERNING THAT A SAFETY RECALL HAS NOT BEEN DONE. YOU CAN TURN IT OFF BUT DOESN'T ALWAYS RESET AND WHEN IT DOES THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION.
STARTED 2005 MONTEGO TO PICK UP FIANC FROM WORK, GOT BACK INSIDE AFTER BRUSHING SNOW OFF THE CAR AND I PRESSED THE THROTTLE TO DROP THE IDLE SPEED, ALL OF THE GAUGES ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT BLACK (TACH,SPEED,FUEL,WATER TEMP,AC/HEATER), MY REVERSE LIGHTS CAME ON, MY STEREO HAD REALLY LOUD STATIC COMING THROUGH IT AND MY WIPERS/HEATER STOPPED WORKING. CAME BACK A FEW HOURS LATER AND GAUGES WORKED BUT CHECK ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND CHARGING SYSTEMS LIGHTS WERE ON. I PUT IT IN GEAR BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS GONE AND AS SOON AS I GOT TO ABOUT 1500 RPM MY GAUGES WENT BLACK SO I STOPPED AND WHEN THE IDLE SPEED DROPPED BACK DOWN MY GAUGES CAME BACK ON. I TRIED MY HEADLIGHTS AND THEY GO OUT EVERY TIME MY GAUGES GO OUT, WHICH IS ANY TIME I GET OVER 1500 RPM.
PARKED CAR AT HOME AFTER DROPPING DAUGHTER OFF IN TOWN CAR PERFORMED NORMALLY. FIVE HOURS LATER WENT OUT TO PICK DAUGHTER UP. STARTED CAR AND HAD NO SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, TACHOMETER, NO CLUSTER PANEL AT ALL. NO LIGHTS ON PANEL, A/C WOULD NOT FUNCTION AND BACKUP LIGHTS CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE WRENCH SYMBOL LIGHT CAME ON AT THIS TIME. I TESTED THE CAR DAILY WITH THE SAME RESULTS, UNTIL TUESDAY, AUGUST 11TH. I HAD AN APPT TO TAKE IT IN TO A FORD DEALER TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AT THIS TIME, THE CLUSTER PANEL AND A/C WERE WORKING, THE BACKUP LIGHTS WERE OFF (EXCEPT WHEN IN REVERSE) AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NOW OFF. HOWEVER, NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. DIAGNOSIS AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS THAT THE CLUSTER PANEL WAS BAD AND WAS SENDING INCORRECT CODES (P0462 & P2067) CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. SINCE THOSE CODES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE IT COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL AT ANY TIME.
WHEN BRAKING IT JERKS AND SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE REEVES TO 5000+ RPM. AFTER BRAKING AND SLOWING IT AGAIN SHIFTS BACK INTO DRIVE. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN BRAKING OR INCREASING SPEED. NO DASH LIGHTS ILLUMINATE, INDICATING A PROBLEM. HAVING TO SLOW SUDDENLY IN TRAFFIC IS VERY DANGEROUS. A FORD DEALER RECOMMENDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AND A TRANSMISSION SHOP RECOMMENDS A NEW ELECTRONIC MODULE..THIS IS AN INTERMEDIATE INCIDENT PROBLEM OCCURRING APPROXIMATELY EVERY TWO TO FOUR WEEKS. .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL WAS IN FLAMES AND THE WHEEL WELL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS EMITTING SMOKE. THE CONTACT AND THE DRIVER EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT 25 30 EVEN MORE. WHEN DRIVING MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO THE COMPLETE DASH CLUSTER LOST ALL FUNCTIONS AND READ OUTS, ALWAYS AT SPEEDS ABOVE 30MPH. A FEW TIMES 9 OR SO THE CAR WOULD BUCK A FEW TIMES. I HAD THE HARNESS CONNECTOR CHECKED AND NO PROBLEMS FOUND. THIS CONDITION PREVENTS ME FROM USING THE VEHICLE AS NEEDED, TO DRIVER A FEW TIMES A YEAR FROM CONNECTICUT TO NORTH CAROLINA AND BACK TO VISIT AILING FAMILY MEMBERS. NO OTHER REASONABLE TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE. WE WILL PRO ALLY NEVER BUY A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. NEED ADVICE AS TO PROBLEM AND HOW TO FIX.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
I JUST PULLED MY CAR OFF THE LOT NOT EVEN 10 MINUTES LATER THERE WAS JERKING THEN MY CAR STOPPED DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET.THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WITH THE WORST BEING ON A ONE WAY AND MY NIECES NO MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD IN THE CAR MY CAR MADE A KIND OF A LOUD HUMMING NOISE,JERKED THEN STOPPED IN THE STREET.AT TIMES I CAN'T EVEN REVERSE OR GO UP STEEP HILLS. *TR
FORD HAS A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE- 06S45 WHICH ARE THE EXACT SYMPTOMS I AM CURRENTLY HAVING. THE DRIVER, PASSENGER OR BOTH DOORS WILL NOT LATCH/LOCK WHEN IN BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES. THIS IS A DIRECT SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THE DOOR CAN STAY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. THE LOCK HAS TO BE WARMED UP AND THEN WILL LOCK PROPERLY WHICH WOULD LEAD ME TO BELIEVE IT CAN ONLY BE MOISTURE RELATED. I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND THIS SHOULD BE A CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL AND ANY VEHICLE WITH THE SAME DIAGNOSIS. THIS IS A ENGINEERING/DESIGN FLAW OF FORD BECAUSE MANY FORD MAKES, MODELS AND YEARS EXPERIENCE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE AND ALL THE GAUGES MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
UPON ENTERING TRAFFIC FLOW ON I-94 WESTBOUND NEAR NEW BUFFALO MICHIGAN THE ACCELERATION OF ENGINE QUIT INSTANTANEOUSLY AND THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT LIT UP READING SOMETHING ABOUT A FAIL SAFE MODE. AFTER COASTING BACK ACROSS TWO TRAFFIC LANES TO THE SIDE OF ROAD I SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. TO KEEP FROM GETTING STRANDED ALONG THE HIGHWAY AND SINCE THE ENGINE INFO LIGHT READ ALL SYSTEMS WERE OK AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED THE MOTOR AND IT RAN OK. I STAYED IN THE SLOW LANE SO I COULD PULL OFF THE ROAD IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHICH IT DIDN'T . THE NEXT DAY ON COUNTY ROAD 500N IN INDIANA IT DID IT AGAIN. *TR
WHEN IT GET HOT IT JERKS,WHEN YOU ACCELERATE IT WONT TAKE OFF AND THEN IT LEAP FORWARD, WHEN IN LOW GEAR IT REALLY START JERKING AND THEN IT STOP IT TAKE A MOMENT BEFORE IT MOVE. I SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO HAVE IT LOOK AT. THEY SAY THAT NUMEROUS OF THERE CUSTOMER HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. ONE CUSTOMER PUT 2 TRANSMISSION IN HER MONTEGO AND EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM OVER AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY AND ERRONEOUSLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VALVE BODY KIT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
DROVE CAR HOME DAY BEFORE, SEEMED FINE. WENT OUT NEXT MORNING, CAR STARTED FINE, PUT INTO GEAR, CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, CHECK TRANSMISSION LIGHT, CHECK TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ALL CAME ON. ALSO THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. THROTTLE WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY, WON'T LET ENGINE REV UP. SAW THE CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR THESE FORD CVT TRANSMISSIONS ONLINE, WANT TO SIGN UP FOR IT AS THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE, A WELL DOCUMENTED FACT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD ABNORMAL SOUND HEARD AS ALL OF THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000. UPDATED 3/14/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING. UPDATED 04/01/14
AS I WAS ENTERING ONTO THE HIGHWAY INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING THE CAR DECELERATED AND WAS LOSING POWER AND RPM'S WENT WAY TOO HIGH THEN IT SHOULD OF. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ACTING PROPERLY.THE CAR HAS A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN HITTING BUMPS. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO USED IN 2012. STARTING LAST YEAR DURING EXTREME COLD WEATHER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WILL OPEN BUT WHEN YOU GO TO CLOSE IT THE DOOR WILL NOT LATCH. IT WILL LATCH ONCE THE WEATHER HAS WARMED UP OR THE CAR ITSELF HAS WARMED UP ENOUGH INSIDE. THE CONDITION GOES AWAY IN ANY OTHER WEATHER. THIS YEAR 2013 THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING. IVE LOOKED ONLINE AND I SEE A FORD RECALL NUMBER OF 06S45 THAT TALKS ABOUT THIS CONDITION...DOOR LOCKS FREEZING IN COLD WEATHER. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY THEMSELVES AND THEY ARE ALL SAYING THAT THE RECALL IS VIN SPECIFIC AND THAT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF IT. WHEN ASKED WHY IT IS NOT NO ONE CALL TELL ME. MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME CONDITION THAT IS IN THE RECALL BUT FOR SOME REASON IT IS NOT PART OF IT. I CAN NOT GET AN ANSWER FROM ANYONE WHY THE RECALL SAYS CERTAIN 2005 MERCURY MONTEGOS BUT NO ONE FROM FORD OR ANYWHERE CAN TELL ME WHY THE CERTAIN PART OF THE RECALL EXCLUDES MY VEHICLE. *TR
AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY FEEL AS THOUGH I HAD PUT THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. IT WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT CHANGE THE PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD AN OWNER NOTIFICATION FROM FORD TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED. THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO DO THIS ON OCCASION. NOW, THE VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THE FAIL SAFE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND I HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND ANOTHER $1,000 LATER I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
VEHICLE WAS STARTED FIRST THING IN MORNING AND DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 25' WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO DISENGAGE AND WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. CAR REMAINED PARKED FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND A SECOND ATTEMPT WAS MADE. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES WHEN ONCE AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO ENGAGE AND A LOSS OF POWER WAS EXPERIENCED. FOLLOWING THESE TWO INCIDENTS WITH THE VEHICLE I ARRANGED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE FLAT BEDDED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY THE VEHICLE HAS 68,250 ORIGINAL MILES ON ODOMETER. *TR
I WAS IN THE MEDDLE LANE OF A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY WHEN I LOST ALL MY ACCELERATION. THE MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT I COULD NOT GO ANYWHERE. WHEN I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY I RESTARTED THE CAR BUT EVERY FEW MILES IT WOULD DO THE SAME THING. AM TOLD THAT IT IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT IT FOR YEARS BUT IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT IS GOING TO GET PEOPLE KILLED ! MY PART COST OVER 600.00 SO IT SETS IN THE DRIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,573.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH AND MERGING INTO THE LEFT LANE, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE UPON ENGAGING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY SEVERAL SECONDS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BEING REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,487. *TR
ON 2/27/13 THROTTLE WAS CLEANED NOT REPLACED PER FORD RECALL 12NO3. ON 5/18/13 BEING STUCK IN CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC AT A STAND STILL, FOOT ON BRAKE ENGINE PROCEEDED LIKE A 747 GETTING READY TO TAKE OFF. CAR MOVED FORWARD SOME 1 TO 2 FT.. KILLED ENGINE, TURNED IT ON AGAIN WITH FOOT ON BRAKE CAR PROCEEDED TO MOVE. KILLED ENGINE, TURNED BACK ON. NO OTHER PROBLEM UNTIL I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT ON WAY TO DESTINATION. AGAIN ENGINE BEGIN TO WHINE AT HIGH RATE AS IF I WAS IN NEUTRAL AND HAD FOOT A GAS. KILLED ENGINE AND WAS ABLE TO PROCEED TO DESTINATION WITHOUT PROBLEM. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP ON 5/9/13. DEALERSHIP DID DIAGNOSTIC, FOUND THROTTLE BODY BAD. HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS ON OR ABOUT 3500 MILES ON VEHICLE SINCE TIME OF CLEANING TO REPAIR. OF THE 3500 MILES, 2000 WAS ON OUR TRIP. TALKED WITH FORD CORPORATE STATED DEALERSHIP PROBLEM NOT THEIRS. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS CHOSEN TO CLEAN RATHER THEN REPLACE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS THROTTLE CONTROL TIES INTO THE TRANSMISSION IN WHICH FORD HAS HAD THEIR SHARE OF PROBLEMS. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ALL LIGHT UP AND ALL THE DIALS DROP TO ZERO, TRACTION CONTROL GOES OUT WHICH CAUSES A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN WINTER DRIVING. SPEEDOMETER, TACK, FUEL GAUGE, AND ENGINE TEMP ALL SET TO ZERO. AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS INOP, LIGHTS ON INTERIOR GEAR SHIFT GO OUT. AT FIRST THIS WOULD HAPPEN INTERMITTENTLY - APPROXIMATELY 2 TO 3 TIMES A MONTH FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE WITH TIME TO TOTAL FAILURE. EVERY TIME I TRIED TO BRING IT INTO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD "ACT FINE" FOR THEM. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE I FIND OUT FORD KNOWS ITS A PROBLEM AND ISSUED A TSB 06-17-9 ON IT BUT IS FAILING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND ISSUE A RECALL. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE A FEW DEATHS? I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT DUE TO THEIR LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CONCERNS WITH THE SAFETY OF THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
AFTER DRIVING CAR 20 MINUTES AND ONCE THE CAR ENGINE HEATS UP THE TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO BUCK AND JERK WHILE DRIVING UNDER 40 MPH. THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HOWEVER, THE LATCH WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V383000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH) BUT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS INELIGIBLE FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS WITH AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
MERCURY MONTEGO 2005 INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF FOR TWO YEARS. GETTING LONGER DURATION BEFORE PANEL COMES BACK ON. THE INTERIOR IS PITCH BLACK, I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING, HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. MY BACK UP LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHEN PANEL GOES . DRIVERS BEHIND ME STAY CLEAR, THINKING I AM BACKING UP. I HAVE NO AIR CONDITIONER. I HAVE RADIO , HEAD LIGHTS , BRAKE LIGHTS . I DID NOT TRY THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE I AM SCARED TO DEATH. .IT IS OVER A 600.00 REPAIR..I GOOGLED AND OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS D A N G ER OUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND IMMEDIATETLY AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MECHATRONICS UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MECHATRONICS UNIT BUT THE STALLING CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,525.
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A USED CAR DEALER WITH 108K, GOT WAY OVERCHARGED BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANY CREDIT. THE SECOND DAY THAT I HAD THE CAR I WAS TAKING MY BABY TO DAY CARE. THE CAR SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WE ALMOST GOT HIT. THE ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE CAME ON. THE CAR DID THIS AGAIN ON THE WAY HOME. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. I JUST GOT THE CAR BACK TODAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN! I'M ABOUT TO LOOSE IT! *TR
THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN MAY OF 2011. AUGUST 2011, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO VIOLENTLY JERK AND ACT AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. WHEN GRADUALLY APPLYING THE BREAKS, THE CAR WOULD BEGIN TO SHUDDER. THIS WOULD HAPPEN ONLY IF THE ENGINE WAS WARM. BY MARCH 2012, THE SHUDDERING TRANSMISSION AND JERK WAS CONSTANT. I TOOK IT IN TO BE LOOKED AT IN APRIL OF 2012. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED, DUE TO WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A BAD BATTERY. THE MECHANIC BELIEVED THIS CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO JERK. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED. JUNE 2012 THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR 5,000. JULY 2012 THE CAR WENT INTO FAIL ENGINE SAFE MODE, THE CODES POINTING TO THE THROTTLE BODY. A MECHANIC CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY SAYING IT MIGHT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. 2 DAYS LATER THE CAR WENT INTO FAIL ENGINE SAFE MODE AGAIN WITH THE SAME CODES WITH AN ESTIMATE OF $900. THE CAR HAS 72000K ON IT AND HAS HAD THREE MAJOR PROBLEMS IN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. *TR
THE CAR WILL SHUTTER, SHAKES AND BANGS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS TO A LOWER GEAR WHEN FOR EXAMPLE THE CAR BEGINS TO CLIMB A SLIGHT GRADE AND NEEDS A LOWER GEAR TO MAINTAIN SPEED. SOMETIMES, DURING THE SAME SCENARIO, THE CAR WILL SHIFT MOMENTARILY INTO WHAT SEAMS TO BE NEUTRAL CAUSING ENGINE RPM TO SPIKE FROM 2,000 RPM UP TO 6,000 RPM. IN EITHER CASE, IT SCARES YOU AND YOU THINK SOMETHING MAJOR IS WRONG WITH THE CAR AND YOU IMMEDIATELY SEARCH TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND STOP. THE CARS AROUND YOU ABRUPTLY TRY TO AVOID YOUR SUDDEN DECREASE OF SPEED. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE CAR SEAMS TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY WHILE UP SHIFTING TO SPEED ALTHOUGH MAYBE THE SHIFTS ARE GETTING A BIT HARDER THAN WE WERE USED TO. THE DEALER REPLACED AN ENGINE MOUNT ANTI-TORQUE BRACKET FOR $600.00 THAT THEY DETERMINED WAS THE PROBLEM BUT IT DID NOT HELP. NO DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS APPEAR ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GIVING REASON FOR THE PROBLEM. WE BASICALLY DO NOT TRUST THE CAR TO TRAVEL ANY WHERE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. I SEE MANY OTHERS ON THE WEB HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR MONTEGO'S. WE HAVE MAINTAINED OUR CAR VERY WELL DURING ITS SHORT LIFE. THE DEALER AND TRANSMISSION SHOPS ARE PERPLEXED TO THE SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAYS NOW THAT MAYBE IT IS A "VALVE BODY" CAUSING THE PROBLEM BUT ARE NOT QUITE SURE. $2,400.00 DOLLARS FOR A "NOT QUITE SURE" FIX IS A BIT MUCH SPECIALLY AFTER ALREADY SINKING $600.00 INTO THE PROBLEM. FORD, WHAT DO YOU THINK? TIME TO ISSUE A RECALL AND ADMIT THERE IS A REAL SAFETY PROBLEM HERE? BE FAIR AND HELP CONSUMERS REMEDY THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING WITH THEIR 2005 MONTEGO'S BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! *TR
THE INSTRUMENT GAUGE ON MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO JUST WENT "DEAD". NOTHING REGISTERED, SO THERE WAS NO READING ON MY SPEED, ENGINE HEAT GAUGE, FUEL LEVEL, OR TACHOMETER. THIS HAPPENED ONCE IN EARLY SPRING OF THIS YEAR (2012), BUT DID NOT REPEAT UNTIL RECENTLY. IT IS NOW JUNE AND THE SAME THING HAS RE-OCCURRED ABOUT 10 TIMES IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING, THIS SOMETIMES (BUT NOT ALWAYS), "FIXES" THE PROBLEM. MOST RECENTLY, IF THE GAUGES DO WORK, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT TURNS ON. THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON, AND THE AWD MALFUNCTION MESSAGE DISPLAYS IN THE INFORMATION PANEL UNTIL I HIT THE RESET BUTTON. FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE, IS THIS A SHORT IN THE SYSTEM OR IS MY AIRBAG REALLY MALFUNCTIONING? AND HOW DO I KNOW MY SPEED OTHER THAN TO GUESS? *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER SHIFTING INTO GEAR, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,087.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO . THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS UP OR DOWNHILL, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD JERK WHEN DOWN SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION OR THE VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
THIS CAR AT 35 MPH LOSES POWER AND WILL NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR.I HAVE FOUND ATSB08-24-1-.THIS DATES BACK TO NOVEMBER13,2008.THE FORD DEALER HAS TOLD ME REPEATDLY THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND MY CAR IS FINE.I ASKED IF THEY KNEW OF ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY STATED NO.WHEN THE CAR DOES THIS IT JUST LOSES POWER AND YOU HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND ACCELERATE VERY SLOW AND HOPE THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES. *TR
THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP VIOLENTLY IN A JERKING MOTION. IN ADDITION, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED NINETEEN DIFFERENT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO STATED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY INFORMED THE SERVICE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
PURCHASED CAR ON 10/3/2011 FROM DRIVETIME MOTORS. ON THE WAY HOME, CAR HAD OBVIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE ON 10/5/2011, AND TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. UPON TESTING, PRIOR TO PICK UP, THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT TRANSMISSION TO BE A BAD ONE. REPLACED WITH ANOTHER LKQ TRANSMISSION. PICKED UP CAR ON 10/27/11. ON 10/29/2011, THE CHECK TRANSMISSION LIGHT ALERTED IN CAR. PARKED CAR AT HOME. ON 10/30/11, DROVE CAR 2 MILES TO CHURCH AND BACKED CAR INTO PARKING SPACE ALONG TREE LINE. AN HOUR LATER, SENT CHILD TO RETRIEVE AN ITEM FROM THE TRUNK. CHILD WALKED AROUND TO THE TRUNK AND USED KEY FOB TO OPEN THE TRUNK. AS HE LEANED TO REMOVE ITEMS FROM THE TRUNK, CAR ROLLED BACKWARDS AND KNOCKED HIM DOWN, LUCKILY, CAR WAS STOPPED BY TREE LIMBS ON RAVINE OF TREE LINE, AS CHILD ROLLED DOWN RAVINE. RESULTING INJURIES WERE HEAD CONTUSION, CONCUSSION AND BADLY BRUISED ARM AND BACK. DRIVETIME SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, AND WANTED ME TO PICK UP AND ASSUME OWNERSHIP. THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING, HAD NO KEY IN THE IGNITION, AND NO ONE INSIDE THE CAR. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND PICTURES TAKEN OF THE GEAR SHIFT SHOWING THE CAR TO BE IN PARK. I AM NOT GOING TO RECLAIM THE CAR, AND AM AFRAID THAT DRIVETIME IS GOING TO RETURN THIS CAR BACK TO A DEALERSHIP TO SALE AND ENDANGER SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THAT COST ME $736.83. THIS WAS DONE ON 10/06/2010. NOW AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. I AM NOW TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAS GONE BAD. THIS TIME THE ESTIMATE IS $950.00. MY MILEAGE IS 90,361. NOW A LITTLE MORE THAT A YEAR AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR I NEED TO PERFORM THIS REPAIR AGAIN. I BELIEVE A RECALL NEEDS TO BE FORCED ON THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT ARE BEING INSTALLED ON THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGE READINGS DECREASED TO ZERO AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HEARD A CLANKING SOUND BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED AND THE GAUGES RESET TO THE ACCURATE READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
WE OWN A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO PREMIER. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS HAVE NOTICED ALTERNATE STALLING OR RANDOM ACCELERATING HOWEVER ON SATURDAY, AS I WAS ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED & REFUSED TO GO OVER 1,000 RPMS. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY. CAR IS CURRENTLY @ LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, ESTIMATE OF $850.00 TO REPAIR. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE WOULD BE ROUGH AND INCONSISTENT ALMOST LURCHING FORWARD AT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WOULD DO THIS EVERY TIME IT WAS DRIVEN. AFTER HAVING TO REPLACE THE VEHICLES BATTERY THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. THE RPMS WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 1000. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND NOW THE VEHICLE DRIVES FINE. I DO STILL HAVE THE OLD PART. *TR
I OWN A MERCURY MONTEGO 2005 PREMIER EDITION, THE LEFT REAR SEAT BELT SHOULDER STRAP SOMETIMES RATCHETS UP SUPER TIGHT ON THE PASSENGER CAUSING THEM TO HAVE TO REMOVE IT LET IT TRAVEL BACK IN AND THEN REBUCKLE IT. I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPLACED AT THIS TIME,BECAUSE I HARDLY EVER HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE REAR SEAT. BUT TODAY I HAD TO HAVE MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLING ASSEMBLY REPLACED AS THE WHOLE THING ,COVERS FELL OFF,AND SPRING AND TENSIONER FAILED TO THE POINT OF NOT STAYING HOOKED TOGETHER. IN OTHER WORDS THE WHOLE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY FAILED AND WOULDN'T STAY LATCHED. REPLACED AT FORD DEALER WITH PART# 6F9Z7461203BB [BUCKLE ASSEMBLY] TO THE TOON OF $250.08 PRETTY STEEP PRICE. I GUESS I AM WONDERING IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE BELTS,AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A SO CALLED MANDATORY WORN SAFETY ITEM AT ALL TIMES. IF THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED, I GUESS I SHOULD JUST MAYBE LET FORD MOTOR CO. KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE REAR BRAKES AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND ALTERNATOR WERE FAULTY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT NOT THE ALTERNATOR. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,275.
2005 MERCURY MONTEGO LUNGES FORWARD AND WHEN IN REVERSE ALSO IT STALLS AND SHUTS OFF REPEATEDLY AND HAVE PROBLEMS ACCELERATING AT TIMES. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND GOT THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNED AFTER A WEEK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, THE MESSAGE ( ENGINE FAILED SAFE MODE ) ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,520.
HAVE A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO,ON MANY OCCASIONS THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SURGES AND THE RPM INCREASE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND I QUICKLY HAVE TO STOMP ON THE BRAKES. HAPPENS IN BOTH. DRIVE AND REVERSE. AFRAID I WILL HIT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING WHEN I PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. HAVE BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT REPLICATE AND CHECKED COMPUTER CODES AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
I HAVE A 05 MONTEGO I BROUGHT USED LAST YEAR IT WANTS TO GO BY ITSELF WHEN U START TO LEAVE I ALMOST HIT A PERSON WHILE IN DRIVE THRU LAST WEEK THIS IS SCARY DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DYE OR GET HURT BEFORE A RECALL WAS TOLD IT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR REALLY EXPENSIVE TO FIX AND NOT SURE WHICH ONE THEIRS TWO IM TOLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO PREMIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED NUMEROUS TIMES, WOULD LOSE POWER AND STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT RECALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ENGINE REVS UP, AND CAR LURCHES, TYPICALLY WHEN: - SHIFTING INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE AND/OR MOVING AWAY FROM IDLE; - ALMOST ALWAYS WHEN THE WHEELS ARE CRANKED ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT AND THE CAR IS MOVING AWAY FROM IDLE. THE LURCHING IS SUDDEN AND "VIOLENT" ENOUGH THAT IT CAN CATCH A DRIVER UNPREPARED - MY WIFE AND I ARE USED TO IT AND ABLE TO COMPENSATE, BUT WE AREN'T LETTING OUR 17 YEAR-OLD DRIVE THE CAR FOR NOW UNLESS ONE OF US IS WITH HER. ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW. THIS HAS BEEN AN OCCASIONAL PROBLEM FOR YEARS - COMPLAINT WAS EVEN MADE WHILE CAR WAS STILL UNDER ITS 3 YEAR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY (NOTHING FOUND). PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING MORE FREQUENT OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY WITH AN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS TO THE MAXIMUM READING. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS AND STABILIZER LINK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC A SECOND TIME WHO ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING ABNORMALLY WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE FAILURE DID NOT PERSIST WHEN RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN DRIVEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP WHO RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND PERFORMED A ROAD TEST ON THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,947. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,995.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK FORWARD AND DECELERATE WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY BEGIN TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON FEBRUARY 10, 2011, STARTED TO PASS A TRUCK AND NOTICED THAT I WAS LOSING POWER - I LOOKED AT THE TACHOMETER AND NOTICED THE RPM'S INCREASING. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND GOT BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE. AS I GOT FURTHER DOWN THE INTERSTATE, I HEARD A LOUD, SCREAMING NOISE, AND I CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER. I PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AS SOON AS IT WAS SAFE (I WAS ON AN OVERPASS). THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN BUT IT WOULDN'T GO INTO GEAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHERE THEY CHECKED AND REPLACED THE CV AXEL ASSEMBLY AND REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. IN MARCH 2011 I NOTICED THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE MISFIRING SO I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY SAID THE PLUGS NEEDED REPLACED AND ONE MOTOR MOUNT WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED REPLACED. I WAS LEAVING FOR VACATION SO THEY SAID IT WOULD BE OK TO DRIVE TO THE AIRPORT AND RETURN AND THEN BRING BACK FOR REPAIR. I TOOK THE CAR BACK ON TUESDAY APRIL 5, 2011. WHILE CHECKING THE CAR OUT, THEY FOUND THE PART REPLACED FOR THE CV AXEL WAS ONCE AGAIN BROKEN, WHICH THEY REPLACED. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON FRIDAY APRIL 8, 2011. I LEFT THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP, DROVE APPROX 20 MILES WHEN I NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM STARTING. I RETURNED TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THE CV AXEL PROBLEM WAS AGAIN OCCURRING - THE SPLINES WERE BROKEN. CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP WHERE IT WAS FOUND THIS TIME TO HAVE AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, SAID THE CV AXEL ASSEMBLY WOULD BE WARRANTY, BUT IT WOULD BE APPROX $4,000 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT ONE. *TR
1) NO PRIOR EVENTS LEAD TO THIS PROBLEM IT JUST HAPPENED. 2)THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO LOST ALL GAUGES, SPEEDOMETER, LIGHTS,TURN-SIGNALS. THEN THE CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER. 3) THE REPAIR SHOP IS STILL TRYING TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO HAS AN INSTRUMENT FAILURE IN WHICH ALL WARNING LIGHTS STAYED ON. ONE LIGHT REMAINED ON AFTER IGNITION WAS OFF. THE BACKUP LIGHTS STAYED ON WHILE IN DRIVE PRESENTING A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD. FOR EXAMPLE, A CAR APPROACHING FROM THE REAR, UPON SEEING FAULTY BACKUP LIGHTS ON MAY SWERVE TO AVOID. THIS SITUATION WOULD BE EVEN MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN AT NIGHT ON A TWO LANE ROAD. NHTSA PREVIOUSLY CLOSED THE ORIGINAL INVESTIGATION DUE TO 'NO SAFETY DEFECT'. THAT REASON WAS BASED ON FORD'S INACCURATE STATEMENT TO ODI THAT THE BACKUP LIGHTS WERE NOT AN ISSUE. FORD LATER ISSUED TSB 06-6-2 WITH REVISION 06-17-2 BOTH ADVISING DEALERS THAT BACKUP LIGHTS PROBLEM WAS AN ISSUE. THE DEFECT WAS FOUND TO BE A FAULT IN THE WIRING OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PER THE LATTER TSB. BASED ON THIS, IT IS LIKELY THERE ARE THOUSANDS OR MORE VEHICLES WHICH HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND FOR WHICH OWNERS HAD TO PAY OVER $700 TO CORRECT DUE TO NO RECALL. PLEASE RE-OPEN. (PREVIOUSLY REPORTED BY THIS WRITER WITH LESS INFORMATION). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY JERK WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. ALSO THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE FAILURES RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS WARMED UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
ON JANUARY 8, 2011, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO (SAME AS FORD FIVE HUNDRED) LOST ALL GAUGES: NO SPEEDOMETER, NO LIGHTS, NO DASH TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR ETC. THE BACKUP LIGHTS ALSO STAY ON IN ALL GEARS AT ALL TIMES. MILEAGE 78,000. THESE ARE UNSAFE CONDITIONS ESPECIALLY FOR NIGHT DRIVING. PER FORD REPAIR SHOPS, THE ONLY REMEDY IS FULL REPLACEMENT OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. FORD HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS; HOWEVER THEIR LAST RESPONSE TO NHTSA ODI WAS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS 'INTERMITTENT'. BASED ON THIS, ODI CLOSED FILE IN 2007 FOR NO 'SAFETY ISSUE' BASED ON FORD RESPONSE. THE STATEMENT THAT THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT IS NOT TRUE AND THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY ME WITH DEALER AND BY MANY OTHERS IN ONLINE POSTS. 'INTERMITTENT PROBLEM' ABSOLUTELY IS NOT CORRECT AND BELIEVE THE ODI FILE SHOULD BE RE-OPENED BASED ON KNOWN SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH IN A FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY THE ARM THAT GOES FROM THE CHASSIS TO SUPPORT THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BROKE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE, OR THE JOINT PART, LEAVING THE WHEEL COMPLETELY WITHOUT SUPPORT WHICH ALMOST MADE ME LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. AT FIRST I THOUGHT A TIRE BLEW UP, BUT ONCE I STOPPED I SAW THE BAR BROKE IN THE CENTER HANGING FROM THE CHASSIS AND THE OTHER PART HANGING FROM THE WHEEL. GOING AT 55 MPH AND HAVING NO CONTROL OVER THE BACK WHEEL IT WAS A MIRACLE I DID NOT END UP HAVING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO PART AVAILABLE, IN ORDER FOR A REPAIR TO BE PERFORMED YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE A CHASSIS OF THE SAME MODEL, OR GO TO A MACHINE SHOP AND SEE IF IT CAN BE MANUFACTURED. THERE WAS NO SIGN BEFORE IT HAPPEN, AT THE MOMENT IT HAPPEN IT SOUNDED LIKE A TIRE BEING BLOWN UP AND IT MAY FEELS LIKE SUCH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK AND KNOCK AND WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE SPEED WOULD NOT INCREASE. ALSO WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND AT TIMES WOULD ACTUALLY SPEED UP. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED AT HER EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 77,000.
MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO (79,000MI.) HAS UNEXPECTEDLY LURCHED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT, AND THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND LUNGED FORWARD. BRAKING HELPED, BUT THE LUNGING OCCURRED AGAIN EACH TIME I TRIED TO DRIVE FORWARD. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO A PARKING SPACE AND TURN THE CAR OFF WHICH STOPPED THE LURCHING MOVEMENT. I SAT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE AWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS UNTIL A SIMILAR OCCURRENCE YESTERDAY. THIS TIME I WAS READY TO BACK OUT AF A PARKING SPACE, PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND IT SURGED BACKWARD. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND SHUT IT OFF. ONCE AGAIN I WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES AND DROVE AWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO THE CAR WHEN IT LUNGED, OR I COULD HAVE BEEN IN TRAFFIC. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WITH BOTH OF THESE OCCURRENCES THE " FAIL SAFE MODE" MESSAGE APPEARED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED INTO FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE. THERE WAS ALSO AN UNUSUAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE WARNING LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS POTENTIALLY CAUSED BY DEBRIS AND SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED NOT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN THREE DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND RECOMMENDED A FUEL INJECTION SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 178,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 179,000.
I OWN A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO THAT HAS BEEN A CONSTANT DOWNWARD SPIRAL.APPROX. 3 MONTHS AGO, I HAD TO REPLACE THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION,BECAUSE I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THEY DO NOT SELL THE TOOLS OR PARTS TO REPLACE ANYTHING IN IT, THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED.APPROX. 1 WEEK AGO, I WAS SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND MY CAR REVVED UP TO APPROX. 3500 RPM AND PUSHED MY CAR FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC. I THEN TRAVELED ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND THE CAR STARTED BUCKING AND ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE WAS ACTIVATED ON THE DASH, ALONG WITH A SMALL WRENCH SYMBOL ON THE MESSAGE BOARD.I THEN CHECKED THE OWNERS MANUAL WHERE IT SAID IT WAS FOR THE THROTTLE CONTROL, AND TRANSMISSION. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SHOP WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN, AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR THERE IMMEDIATELY. WHILE ON MY WAY TO THE SHOP THE SAME DAY, NUMEROUS TIMES I WOULD PUSH THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR WOULD DO NOTHING, IT WOULD NOT GO AT ALL AND THEN WOULD ACCELERATE AFTER APPROX. 5 SECONDS. I EVENTUALLY MADE IT TO THE SHOP WHERE THE CAR WAS PLACED ON A COMPUTER THAT SAID THERE WERE NO CODES COMING UP FOR THE WARNING THAT CAME ON. AFTER ALREADY SPENDING $4,000 ON A TRANSMISSION, AGAIN I SPENT ANOTHER $200 TO CHANGE ALL OF THE SPARK PLUGS AND CLEAN OUT THE THROTTLE CONTROL BOX, WHICH HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR THE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. IN JANUARY 2010, I CALLED MY DEALER TO SET AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AS A MAINTENANCE CALL, AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD DOES NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR FLUID UNTIL 150,000 MILES, IS THAT NORMAL? WHY ARE ALL OF THESE TRANSMISSION GOING BAD, AND WHY ARE THESE VEHICLES ACCELERATING BY THEMSELVES? NOBODY SEEMS TO HAVE ANSWERS FOR ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS. WHY ARE THESE NOT BEING RECALLED LIKE TOYOTAS WERE? ARE YOU GUYS WAITING FOR PEOPLE TO DIE BECAUSE OF THIS, WILL THAT GET YOUR ATTENTION? THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A COMPUTER ISSUE WITHIN THE CAR,SAME SYSTEM THAT IS IN TOYOTA'S. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, BEFORE SOMEONE'S HURT! *TR
I RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED IN MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO DUE TO INTER PROBLEMS WITHIN - I WENT ON LINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS IN FORD AND MERCURY CARS. I TOOK MY CAR IN AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL - I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE IT FIXED AND MY MECHANIC TRIED TO GET PARTS, AND A MANUAL TO HAVE IT FIXED BUT FORD WOULD NOT SELL HIM ANYTHING TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION. BEFORE I GO FURTHER WE FIRST TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE HOW MUCHIT WOULD COST THEY SAID IT WOULD START ABOUT 4,000 DOLLARS WE COULD NOT AFFORD THAT AND TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE AND IT WAS FINALLY FIXED AFTER BEING IN THE SHOP 14 DAY DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE COULD NOT GET PARTS OR ANYTHING FROM THE FORD PARTS DEPARTMENT. HE FINALLY HAD TO GET A TOTAL DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION FOR THE CAR. I CONTACTED FORD IN DEARBORN, MICHIGAN A FEW TIMES AND ONLY GOT THE RESPONSE - SORRY THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO BECAUSE THERE IS NO RECALLS - I FEEL LIKE SCREAMING THAT WITH A TRANSMISSION THAT WOULD MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE RIDING A BUCKING BRONCO AND THEN IT WOULD SHIFT TO ANOTHER GREAR AND THEN JUST IDLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND YOU WOULD THINK GREAT IT'S GOING TO JUST STOP AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO RUN INTO THE BACK OF ME AND WORST THE SIDE OF THE CAR - IF THAT ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS - PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS GO ONLINE AND CHECK THE COMPLAINTS -ALSO, THE CAR ONLY HAS 61,000 MILES ON IT AND THAT IS THE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS ONLINE. YET FORD WILL DO NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OR EVEN SAY THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. *TR
ON JUNE 22, 2010 I NOTICED THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT COME ON. ABOUT 1/2 MILE FURTHER THE TRANSMISSION STARTS BUCKING AND JUMPING. THE 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO WAS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME PULLING A 15% GRADE, ONCE TO THE TOP EVERYTHING SMOOTHED OUT. THEN 2 MILES FURTHER ANOTHER HILL CAME. THE 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO STARTED TO BUCK AND JUMP ONCE AGAIN. I MADE IT HOME THAT EVENING. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION. IT WAS DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN TO BE LOOKED AT. WHAT WAS FOUND WAS AN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DEFECT THAT WAS CHANGED OUT AFTER A FOUR DAY WAITING PERIOD TO RECEIVE THE PART. THEN THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED AND STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) WAS DEFECTIVE. THIS PART IS NOT COVERED BY MY WARRANTY! IT WILL COST ME $1,700.00 TO REPLACE THIS PART. NOW I AN FINDING THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS FOR THIS PARTICULAR YEAR AND MODEL. SO MY QUESTION IS..HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THE NHTSA WILL PRESSURE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY INTO MAKING THEIR CARS SAFE TO OPERATE ON THE AMERICAN ROADWAYS? WHO IS WILLING AT THE NHTSA TO PUT THEIR FAMILY IN AN 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO KNOWING THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE COULD MALFUNCTION AT ANY TIME CAUSING THEIR FAMILY TO BE STRANDED ON A FREEWAY OR IN A BUSY INTERSECTION? COME ON AND STEP FORWARD YOU CAN BORROW MY CAR! *TR
2005 MERCURY MONTEGO PREMIER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING ROUGH AND BUCKING TRANSMISSION SHIFTS AT 2ND AND 3RD GEARS, VERY OCCASIONAL SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF WHILE IN MOTION AND ACCELERATING AND SHUDDERING TRANSMISSION SHIFTS DURING DECELERATION OR BRAKING SINCE APPROX. 50, 000 MILES (25, 000 MILES BEFORE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED). DEALER SERVICE WAS CONSULTED MULTIPLE TIMES. HOWEVER, I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THERE WERE NO COMPUTER CODES AND THAT TECHNICIANS COULDN'T "DUPLICATE THE CONDITION." THEREFORE, I HAVE LIVED WITH THE CONDITION SINCE THEN. THAT IS UNTIL THIS MORNING WHEN I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND RUN OVER BY A SEMI BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE ON-RAMP TO I 95. THIS CONDITION IS DANGEROUS. I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS SITE AND ON FORDFORUMS.COM. IT IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO OPERATE AND CAUSES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN ONE OF THESE VEHICLES. PLEASE, LISTEN AND TAKE ACTION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20 MPH. WHEN THEY ATTEMPTED TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE, SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS HESITANT TO INCREASE SPEED SIMILAR TO DRIVING WHILE IN NEUTRAL. IN ADDITION, WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER RESET THE VEHICLE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION FOR A SHORT PERIOD; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
MY 2005 MERCURY NONTEGO HAS 62550 MI ON CAR HEARD NOISE IN TRANSMISSION AND TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AFTER LOOKING ON LINE NUMEROUS POEPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS BETWEEN 54,000 MI AND 67000, MI , THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I CALLED FORD CORPORATION AND THEY STATED BECAUSE THERE IS NO EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VECHILE THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME . SPEAKING WITH NUMEROUS MECHANICS THERE IS NO WAY A TRANSMISSION SOULD GO WITH THAT KIND OF MILAGE. FORD CORPORATION SAID THEY IT IS AGAINST COMPANY POLICY TO GIVE ANY TYPE OF CREDIT FOR THIS PROBLEM. WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM I WOULD THINK THAT FORD WOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE. I REALLY THINK THAT FORD SHOULD INITIATTE A CALL BACK ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS, BUT THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT INITIATE ANYTHING UNLESS NATIONAL HIGWAY TRAFFIC SAFETIY AND ADMINISTRATION ITNITALIZES THE CALL BACK. SO I AM WRITING IN RESPONSE TO THEIR RESPNSE. YOU WOULD THINK A CORPORATION LIKE FORD WOULD INITIATE THEIR OWN CALL BACKS WITH THE NOTED PROBLEMS, JUST TO SAVE REPUTATIONS
2005 MERCURY MONTEGO HAS CLOSE TO 90K MILES. KEPT IN GREAT CONDITION BUT THE TRANSMISSION IS GIVING SAME SIGNS AS REPORTED MANY TIMES ON THIS THREAD. JERKING BETWEEN GEARS AND KICKING BACK REALLY HARD. THE COMPANY WILL HEAR US IF WE JOIN TOGETHER WE'RE LEARNING THAT WITH TOYOTA. LET'S GET TOGETHER AND FIGHT THIS ONE.. IT'S NOT FAIR!!!! CAR SHOWED "FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE" ON THE DISPLAY PANEL AND DID NOT RESPOND WHEN I HIT THE GAS ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AS I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES. ENGINE RESPONSE WAS INTERMITTENT AFTER THIS AND THEN THE "WRENCH" SYMBOL SHOWED UP. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION AND TURNED OFF THE CAR TO TRY AND LOOK AT THE OWNER'S MANUAL TO SEE WHAT THIS MEANT. COULD NOT FIND DETAILS. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE "WRENCH" WAS GONE AND THE "FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE" DISPLAY WAS NO LONGER SHOWING. WORRIED THIS MAY HAPPEN AGAIN... *TR
WHILE IDLING WHEN STOPPED OR WHEN MOVING SLOWLY, THE ENGINE SPEED SUDDENLY ACCELERATES TO ABOVE 3500 RPM CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD UNLESS THE BRAKE IS FIRMLY APPLIED. THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION LASTS 3 TO 5 SECONDS. PLACING THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL HAS NO EFFECT ON THE ENGINE SPEED. THIS HAPPENS SPORADICALLY. IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS IT HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 7 TIMES. DEALER SAYS THE CAR'S COMPUTER SYSTEM REPORTS NOTHING UNUSUAL. *TR
MY PARENTS WERE INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON ACCIDENT WITH A DRUNK DRIVER WHO HAD CROSS THE CENTER LINE, IN WHICH CASE NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED. THE BUNT FORCE OF THE ACCIDENT WAS TO THE PASSENGER FRONT CORNER OF THE VEHICLE WHERE THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE UNI-BODY AND THE FRONT CLIP SUPPORT CROSS SECTION MEET. THE VEHICLE IS BEING MOVED TO THE NEAREST MERCURY DEALER. WE HAVE CONTACT THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURE AND ARE AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE OFFICE OF GENERAL CONSOLE FOR A RESPONSE OF INVESTIGATION PLAN OF WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM REPRESENTING MY PARENT DO TO MY VEHICLE MECHANICAL BACKGROUND. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT FROM NORMAL TO ZERO AND THEN BACK UP TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE WIRE THAT CAUSED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE TO MALFUNCTION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE COULD CAUSE HIGH VOLTAGE IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT, WHICH COULD HAVE LEAD TO A FIRE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,080. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,956. UPDATED 11/13/09.*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS WELL. THE MECHANIC FOUND THREE CODES STORED FOR THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT. THEY INDICATED AN INTERMITTENT HIGH VOLTAGE IN THE ECT CIRCUIT. THE FREEZE FRAME DATE SHOWED 40 DEGREES INDICATING THE CIRCUIT WAS OPEN AT SOME POINT. EXTENSIVE TESTING WAS DONE OF THE COOLANT SENSOR AND RELATED WIRING AND IT WAS FINALLY DISCOVERED THAT A BAD SPOT IN THE SENSOR ORANGE WIRE INSIDE THE HARNESS AT THE BACK OF THE MOTOR WHERE IT TAKES A SHARP BEND. THE HARNESS WAS PULLED APART AND THE FAULTY SECTION WIRE WAS REPAIRED. UPDATED 11/17/09.*JB THE CONSUMER WANTS TO KNOW THE RESULT OF HIS COMPLAINT. UPDATED 01/21/10.*JB
I OWN A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO FWD 6 SPEED. A COUPLE MONTHS AGO THE TRANSMISSION STARTED JUMPING AROUND, IT SEEMS LIKE IT WOULD NOT GO INTO TO GEAR AND WHEN IT DOES IT WILL SLAM REAL HARD. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH 22000 MILES AND NOW IT HAS 52000 MILES. I'VE ALREADY REPLACED A MOTOR MOUNT BECAUSE OF THE HARD SHIFTING. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT MIGHT BE THE VALVE BODY WITCH IS AROUND 2000 DOLLARS WITH PARTS AND LABOR. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCH ABOUT THIS CAR, IT IS A MAJOR ISSUE AND COULD GET SOMEONE HURT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR MY WIFE AND KIDS SO IT HAS NOT BEEN MISTREATED. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION TO START GOING OUT AROUND 50000 MILES. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE FORUMS THIS IS A PROBLEM AND FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO ALL OF A SUDDEN NOT WANT TO SHIFT RIGHT WHO'S TO SAY SOMEONE GETS HIT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET OUT OF THE WAY IN TIME. I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED A FORD AND THIS CAR IS THE WORST. AS SOON AS I SAVE THE MONEY UP JUST SO THEY CAN EVEN LOOK AT IT WE ARE OUT OF A VEHICLE. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO IN MAY 2005. THE CAR NOW HAS 85K MILES WITH THE 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION.THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN FINE ON SHORT TRIPS (35 MILES OR LESS) BUT ANYTHING OVER THAT AND IT STARTS DOING REALLY CRAZY STUFF. IT WILL DOWNSHIFT 3-4 GEARS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS...SLAM INTO GEAR... THEN IMMEDIATELY UPSHIFT. THIS HAPPENS SO HARD THAT THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES. ONE TIME IT WAS SO BAD, WE FELT WE HAD BEEN HIT. SOMETIMES IT WILL GO TO DOWNSHIFT, AND JUST GOES TO NEUTRAL CAUSING MAJOR ISSUES WHEN INVOLVED WITH TRAFFIC TRYING TO GET OF THE ROAD. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHICH COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHEN SHIFTING FROM 3-2 AT LOW SPEEDS, IT WILL DOWNSHIFT BUT SHUDDER THE WHOLE CAR. ALL THESE SYMPTOMS OCCUR ONLY AFTER TRIPS LONGER THAN 35 MILES OR ON A VERY HOT DAY WHERE THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO HEAT UP. MY LOCAL FORD GARAGE HAS TRIED REPROGRAMMING THE TCM WITH NO SUCCESS (FIRST TSB). THEY NOW SAY I NEED A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF NEARLY $5000. FORD WILL NOT HELP IN ANY WAY EVEN THOUGH I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED, BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, AND MAINTENANCE PERFORMED AT OR SOONER THAN RECOMMENDED. THE SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL IS A SAFETY ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND REPLACE THE TRANS, IT APPEARS AS THEY HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE ALL THE TSB'S FOR THIS SYMPTOM (2 THAT I KNOW OF) AFFECTS ONLY VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BEFORE OCT 2005. HOW CAN FORD OR ANY OTHER COMPANY KNOW THEY HAVE AN ISSUE AND NOT TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FORD MAN SINCE THE EARLY 1970'S. HOW I HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH THIS DEFECT COULD BE CONSTRUED AS CRIMINAL. I GUESS THEY FIGURE IF THEY HOLD OUT LONG ENOUGH, THE VEHICLES WILL ALL DIE AND GO AWAY AND THEY WONT HAVE ANY OBLIGATIONS WHATSOEVER. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THIS VEHICLE WITH THE 6 SPEED TRANS, THERE ARE LOTS OF US IN THE SAME SITUATION WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND THE SAME REPLY FROM FORD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. SHE STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. SHE PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON THEN IT SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE WHEN THE PART WERE AVAILABLE. THEY LATER STATED THAT THE PART WAS AVAILABLE AND THAT THEY HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL OPTIONS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED; HOWEVER, IT REMAINED IN THE DEALERS POSSESSION. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT SHOULD RETRIEVE IT. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 57000.
DURING DRIVING SPEED, WHEN I NEED TO SPEED UP TO AVOID BEING HIT ON THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES THEN SHIFTS SO HARD THAT THE CAR SHAKES. HAPPENS EVERY TIME. *TR
TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLIP AND SPUTTER WHILE DOWNSHIFTING. WILL NOT ACCELERATE WITHOUT SLIPPING WHEN HEATED UP. *TR
1CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (GAS EMISIONS) 2. FAILURE IS ONCE A MONTH THEN LIGHT GOES OFF 2 NO PARTS OR REPAIRS AS THE DEALER SHIP WILL NOT REPLACE WILL THE RECALL REPAIR? *TR
SAW SMOKE COMING FROM PASSENGER'S OUTSIDE MIRROR, THE METAL WAS HOT, THEN SAW A SMALL FLAME, UNDER THE MIRROR, SO WE PULLED THE FUSE. A WEEK LATER WE PUT THE FUSE BACK IN & SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE MIRROR,AGAIN, SO WE PULLED THE FUSE & HAVE LEFT IT OUT. THIS FUSE ALSO CONTROLS THE POWER SEATS, ALONG WITH THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS. BOTH TIMES THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING. *TR
MONTEGO CVT TRANSMISSION STICKS SOMETIMES WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS,AND SOMETIMES GO INTO SAFETY MODE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID NO CODES WHERE FOUND .I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD PUT SOME PRESSER ON FORD FOR THEM TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. *TR
MY NAME IS [XXX] AND I AM A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF THE FORD ASSEMBLY PLANT THAT WAS IN HAZELWOOD MISSOURI. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT SOMEONE TO HELP ME IN A TERRIBLE SITUATION. I BOUGHT A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO BECAUSE I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE CAR, AND UP UNTIL NOW, NOT ONLY AM I DISAPPOINTED BUT VERY UNSATISFIED WITH MY CAR AND FORD AUTO COMPANY. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ONE NIGHT AND IT WOULD NOT GO FORWARD, THE MORE I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR THE MORE IT DID NOT MOVE. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO FORWARD OR REVERSE. THE NEXT DAY I HAD IT TOWED TO PAUL CREAME FORD TO BE CHECKED. [XXX] CALLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT I NEED A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD COST $6,000.00, (BEFORE THEY EVEN CHECKED IT OUT.) I THEN PROCEEDED TO CALL OR WHO I THOUGHT WAS FORD THE MANUFACTURER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE. YES, I AM OVER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY BUT ONLY BY 1,763 MILES, IN OTHER WORDS I HAVE 37,693 MILE ON MY CAR. THEY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP CONTACT ME, AND TOLD ME THAT WOULD ONLY PAY PART OF IT AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT KNOW THE PRICE UNTIL THEY CHECK THE VEHICLE OUT. A FEW DAYS HAD PASS AND THE DEALER CALLED MY AND SAID, " IT COST $5,500.00 TO REBUILD YOUR TRANSMISSION AND FORD WILL ONLY PAY $3,500." [XXX] ALSO SAID THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE OF THE REST. I CALLED FORD BACK AND SPOKE TO A SUPERVISOR AND BASICALLY STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT AND WILL NOT OVER TURN THAT DECISION. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT [XXX] , AND [XXX] BUT HAVE HAD NO SUCCESS. I FEEL THAT MY CAR HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT IS THE REASON I NEED A TRANSMISSION AND I ALSO FEEL THAT $5,500 IS A OUTRAGEOUS PRICE TO PAY FOR A TRANSMISSION FOR ANY VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT FORD WILL NOT OR WONT STAND BEHIND THEIR CARS. I NEED HELP IN GETTING THIS MATTER RESOLVED. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
MY 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO WITH JUST OVER 18, 000 MILES SUDDENLY WENT DEAD, WHILE PARTIALLY PULLED OUT IN TRAFFIC. IT WAS TRACED TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. NO HARM OCCURRED, BUT I AM GOING TO GET RID OF THE CAR. I ALSO NOTICED INFO ON THE INTERNET WITH CVT PROBLEMS. I SEE TOO THAT FORD PULLED OUT THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS ON ITS NEW MODELS FOR THE SABLE (WHICH WAS THE MONTEGO) AND TAURUS. I HAD TO PAY JUST OVER $1900 ON THIS REPAIR--WHICH I DO NOT BELIEVE IS FAIR, AS IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT WITH THE CVT. *TR
FAILURE OF REAR WHEEL BEARING AT 46,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 50 MPH I WENT TO ACCELERATE AND THE TRANSMISSION SPUTTERED AND THEN TRIED TO DOWNSHIFT BUT INSTEAD LOCKED UP AND CAUSED THE CARS FRONT TIRES TO SQUEAL AND A RAPID SLOW DOWN. THIS FAILURE OCCURS ANYTIME I TRY TO ACCELERATE TO PASS A VEHICLE. WITH CAREFUL DRIVING I CAN MINIMIZE IT BUT AM NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE VERY WELL. DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT MY COST. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO ON A HIGHWAY AT 55MPH WHEN A JEEP LIBERTY CROSSED THE MEDIAN AND IMPACTED HIS CAR. IT WAS A SHEARING IMPACT, NOT A SIDE IMPACT. OUR REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND THAT QUARTER OF THE VEHICLE WAS RIPPED COMPLETELY OFF. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS BENT OVER DOUBLE WITH THE LIBERTY'S LICENSE PLATE WEDGED IN THE MIDDLE. OUR ONE MONTH OLD SON'S CAR SEAT BASE WAS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE REAR SEAT AND THERE WERE TIRE TRACKS WHERE HIS HEAD WOULD HAVE BEEN HAD HE BEEN IN THE CAR. THE ONLY PASSENGER WAS MY HUSBAND IN THE DRIVER'S POSITION. HE HAS MUSCULOSKELETAL INJURIES AND A BROKEN FINGER, BUT ANYONE IN THE BACK SEAT WOULD HAVE BEEN MASSACRED AND KILLED. WE WERE STUNNED BECAUSE WE THOUGHT THE MONTEGO WAS A RELATIVELY SAFE VEHICLE. *TR
MERCURY MONTEGO WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE REAR BRAKES WERE REPLACED AFTER 16,000 MILES, AND THE FRONT BRAKES WERE REPLACED AFTER 26,000 MILES. SHE BELIEVES THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE TYPE OF METAL THAT IS BEING USED. *KB
IN THE 86K MILES MY MERCURY MONTEGO HAS BEEN DRIVEN THE REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. JUST THIS WEEK THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BRAKE CALIPER HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR THE BRAKE PADS. MOISTURE WOULD ENTER INTO THE BRAKE PADS AND THE MANUFACTURER INSTALLED NEW ROTORS IN THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY. FOUR WEEKS LATER, THE AFTERMARKET BRAKE ROTORS WERE RUSTED EXCESSIVELY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FEATURE WAS COSMETIC AND PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I NOTICED A LOT OF DUST FROM THE BRAKES ESPECIALLY ON THE REAR, AT 42,533, I HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND THE ROTORS RE-SURFACED. *TR
PREMATURE BRAKE PAD DEPLETED TOTALLY BY 18750 MILES RESULTING IN NO REAR BRAKING ACTION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE'S STOPPING DISTANCE HAD INCREASED WHEN BRAKING. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. THE CONTACT DID NOT ALLOW THE DEALER TO INSPECT ANY FURTHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 21,700 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
I HAVE A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. I WAS DRIVING, APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THERE WAS A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN WILSON FORD, FAIRMONT, WV FOR REPAIRS. ONE CALIPER HAD LOCKED UP AND DESTROYED THE ROTOR AND THE OTHER CALIPER HAS BADLY DAMAGED THE OTHER ROTOR. ALSO, BRAKE PADS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM TO FORD/MERCURY THAT THE BRAKES ARE FAILING ON FORD 500S AND MERCURY MONTEGOS. I HAVE GONE ON MESSAGE BOARDS AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE BRAKES, CALIPERS, AND ROTORS FAILING. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT I WAS LUCKY TO GET 33000 MILES OUT OF MY CAR. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I ONLY HEARD THE GRINDING NOISE. THERE WAS NO FEELING THAT SOMETHING WAS GOING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT IS KNOW TO FORD/MERCURY THAT THESE PARTS ARE FAILING AT A RAPID PACE. IN FACT, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CALIPERS NEEDED FOR MY VEHICLE ARE ON BACKORDER INDEFINITELY. MY CONCERN LIES IN THE FACT THAT THESE BRAKING SYSTEMS ARE SUDDENLY GOING OUT. THIS COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHICH COULD RESULT IN DEATH. THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES NEEDS TO BE NOTIFIED THAT THESE PARTS ARE FAILING AND THAT THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE DESIGN NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS WHY THE RAPID FAILURE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO ILLUMINATE. HE HAS TAKEN HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOURTEEN TIMES AND HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO PERMANENTLY REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER CURRENTLY HAS THE VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD IT SINCE MAY 2, 2007. THE VIN, PURCHASE DATE, AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 19,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
MY FATHER AGE 81 WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH ON 1-20-07 IN WICH HE IMPACTED THE REAR OF A SEMI TRACTOR TRAILOR COMBO@ APPROX. 40 MPH. THE TRAILOR HAD A BAR/BUMPER EXTENDING ACROSS THE BACK AND DOWN, AND THE IMPACT WAS 18-24 INCHES OFF THE GROUND.THE AIRBAG SYSTEM DID NOT DEPLOY,RESULTING IN MULTIPLE INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND FACIAL AREAS. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO PREMIER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES MADE EXCESSIVE NOISE, BRAKES WERE DRAGGING, AND THERE WA S BRAKE DUST. THE NOISE USUALLY OCCURRED WHEN TRAVELING IN REVERSE. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE THE CALIPERS WERE NOT RELEASING. THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY,AS A RESULT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE DOING ALL THE WORK. THE CONTACT FELT THAT IT TOOK EXCESSIVE FORCE TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 21000 MILES. *AK
EXCESSIVE REAR BRAKE WEAR. OUR 2005 MONTEGO, PURCHASED NEW IN JAN. 2006 EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE REAR BRAKE WEAR WITH LESS THAN 24K MILES OF NORMAL DRIVING. THIS REQUIRED NEW PADS AND ROTORS BE REPLACED. WE GENERALLY GET 50K TO 60K MILES OF WEAR ON THE BRAKES OF THE OTHER FORD PRODUCTS WE HAVE OWNED OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS. FORD OFFERED NO EXPLANATION OTHER THAN BRAKE WEAR IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AFTER 12K MILES. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT BILL UTTER FORD IN DENTON, TX SAID HE HAS SEEN THE SAME EXCESSIVE WEAR PATTERN IN AS LITTLE AS 20K MILES ON SIMILAR MODELS. FORD REFUSED TO ASSUME ANY OF THE COST FOR REPLACEMENT. CLEARLY THIS IS BOTH A DESIGN FAILURE AND A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IF FORD CHOOSES TO CONTINUE TO IGNORE THIS SAFETY ISSUE I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANYMORE OF THEIR PRODUCTS. *NM
REAR BAKES WEARING OUT EXTREMELY FAST. REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 17K MILES AND AT 12K MILES. BRAKES WEARING OUT AT RATES FASTER THAN CUSTOMARY MAY LEAD TO UNREASONABLE EXPECTATION OF TIMELY REPAIR IN TIME, AND BRAKE FAILURE IN SERVICE. DEALER SERVICE IS OFFERING TO INSTALL CERAMIC BRAKE PADS. *JB
THE NECESSITY TO REPLACE REAR BRAKES ON A 2005 MERCURY MONTEGO WITH ONLY 19,749 MILES. *JB
I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY NEWBORN DAUGHTER WHEN I HEARD THIS AWFUL RUMBLING FROM MY LEFT REAR TIRE. UPON GAINING CONTROL OF THE CAR AND GETTING IT SAFELY OFF THE DESERTED COUNTRY ROAD INTO A FIELD, I SAW THAT THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DEFLATED AND BARELY HANGING ON THE RIM. AFTER TAKING THE TIRE TO BE REPAIRED, I WAS TOLD THE TIRE WAS UN-REPAIRABLE, AND THE TIRE HAD A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT ACCORDING TO MY TIRE MAN. THE TIRE HAD BUBBLED IN SEVERAL PLACES ALONG THE INNER RIM. THE FLAT HAD COME FROM A SMALL NAIR HOLE THE REPAIRMAN SAID WOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED IT TO DEFLATE THAT FAST WITHOUT A DEFECT BEING PRESENT. I CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD MY TIRE WAS UNDERINFLATED. HOW THEY KNOW THIS FROM A COMPLETELY FLAT TIRE IS BEYOND ME. I WAS NOT OFFERED ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING MY TIRES ON MY MERCURY MONTEGO THAT WAS BARELY 14 MONTHS OLD WITH AROUND 23K MILES ON IT. THESE DEFECTS ARE SERIOUS, AND I WISH YOU WOULD TAKE THEM AS SUCH BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *JB
REAR BRAKES ARE EXCESSIVELY WORN. THE FIRST INCIDENT OF GRINDING NOISE HAPPENED AT 100 MILES. AT 196 MILES THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS. SQUEAKING, GRINDING NOISES AND EXCESSIVE REAR BRAKE DUST CONTINUED. CURRENTLY AT 18,846 MILES THE GRINDING IS EXTREMELY LOUD. THE DEALER CLAIMS I NEED NEW BRAKE PADS AND ONE RIGHT REAR ROTOR. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS INCIDENT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. THIS IS ABNORMAL BRAKE WEAR AND THE OWNERS OF FORD FIVE HUNDRED AND MERCURY MONTEGO SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE! FORD AND THE DEALER WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS AS THEY CLAIM THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS COVERED FOR 12 MONTHS. THIS IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE!!!! *JB
REAR BRAKES DUST BADLY AND HAVE EXCESSIVE WEAR. DOCUMENTED THIS COMPLAINT ON FIRST TRIP TO DEALER AFTER BUYING CAR. SINCE THEN I HAVE MADE COMPLAINTS TO ANOTHER MERCURY DEALER. TODAY THEY TELL ME FORD HAS RE-ENGINEERED THE REAR BRAKE PADS TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT BECAUSE THE CAR IS MORE THAN A YEAR OLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE NEW BRAKE PADS. *NM UPDATED 07/30/08
DT: THE CONTACT STATED DRIVER'S SIDE POWER WINDOW SWITCH WAS REPLACED TWICE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ONLY PROJECT OUT ABOUT 2 OR 3 CAR LENGTHS. DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING ABOVE 40 MPH ON DARK UN-LIT ROADS. HAVE HAD DEALER CHECK THE AIM AND WAS TOLD IT WAS RIGHT ON SPEC AND IF IT WASN'T IT WAS AT MAX ADJUSTMENT FOR HEIGHT. HAVE ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST THEM MYSELF PER OWNERS MANUAL AND APPARENTLY DEALER IS CORRECT BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO ELEVATE THEM AS WELL. VERY DANGEROUS, CANNOT SEE FAR ENOUGH AHEAD TO BRAKE UNLESS GOING VERY SLOWLY. HIGH BEAMS ARE FINE, NO PROBLEM. *JB
PURCHASED VEHICLE IN JAN.05 SEAT BELT REPLACED IN JAN TRANSMISSION REPLACED IN FEB. 05 AND A VALVE REPLACED DUE TO CHECK ENGINE WARNING FUEL PUMP REPLACED IN AUG.05, NOW HAVE TROUBLE STARTING CAR
ABS BRAKE FAILURE, GAS CAP WARNING COMING ON AND TRANSMISSION FAILURE ALL UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE CAR IS 7 WEEKS OLD
MY NEW MERCURY MONTAGE SEDAN IS EQUIPPED WITH OVERSIZED SIDE MIRRORS-APS 2 HIGHER AND 3 LONGER THAN THE AVERAGE SIZE ON COMPARABLE VEHICLES. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AS IT BLOCKS OUT THE ENTIRE SIZE OF A VEHICLE WHEN GOING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS, NARROW STREETS, ALLEYS, AND PARKING LOTS. ALSO ,CANNOT SEE PEDESTRIANS, WHEEL CHAIRS, ETC .,THAT MAY BE WAITING IN THE GUTTER. WHEN TURNING, THE LARGER SIZE MIRROR REFLECTS CARS THAT ARE BEHIND YOU, YET APPEAR TO BE COMING FROM THE SIDE. IN EVENING HOURS, THE LARGER SIZE REFLECTS THE HEADLIGHTS OF VEHICLES, PARTICULARLY SUV'S, AND IS BLINDING. I COMMUTE 400 MILES/WEEK, AND FEAR THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND CORRECTED. MY MERCURY DEALER SAID NOTHING CAN BE DONE. THAT IS IRRESPONSIBLE! SINE THIS FORM DOESN'T ALLOW FOR MULTIPLE INCIDENTS, I HAVE ENTERED THE MOST RECENT ONE. *AK
