WHEN DRIVING AT OR UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT ON SOME TURNS MY CARS SLIP INDICATOR GOES OFF WITHOUT ANY APPARENT ISSUES AND IT WILL START BEEPING AND SOMETIMES IT EVEN BREAKS ON IT'S OWN AND JERKS THE CAR. THE SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT HAS TURNED ONE WHILE DRIVING UNDER 30 MPH IN A DRY AND PAVED ROAD. THE BEEPING AND JERKING HAS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY
WHEN BACKING THE RAV, WE HEAR A THUNK NOISE AND RAV HAS DIFFICULTY REVERSING, ESPECIALLY WHEN REVERSING UPHILL.
WHILE DRIVING THE VSC LIGHT AND ALARM FLASH AND SOUND AND THE VEHICLE APPLIES THE BRAKES CAUSING VEHICLE TO VEER INTO OTHER LANE
NONE OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE WORKING I HAVE TRIED REPLACING THEM WITH NEW BULBS AND THEY STILL DON'T WORK I EVEN CHECKED TO SEE IF IT NEED A NEW FUSE AND ALL THE FUSES LOOK GOOD. I'M STARTING TO FEEL LIKE THE VEHICLE HAS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT'S CAUSING THE LIGHTS NOT TO WORK.
EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, 1/2 QUART EVERY 2 WEEKS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 3 YEARS.
AIR BAG RECALL: I HAVE BEEN GETTING RECALL NOTICES FOR YEARS. I HAVE NOTIFIED TOYOTA MANY TIMES THAT I NO LONGER OWN THIS VEHICLE!!! IT WAS TRADED IN TO TOYOTA OF LEWISVILLE TX IN OCTOBER 25, 2014. THIS IS BORDERING ON HARRASSMENT! IT IS ALSO A WASTE OF MONEY. I RECENTLY RECIEVED A NOTICE VIA FEDEX!! PLEASE UPDATE YOUR RECORDS. THANK YOU.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 50,000 OF THE 255,000 MILES ON MY RAV4. IT HAS BEEN ON IT SEEMS MOSTLY BECAUSE OF OXYGEN SENSORS AND RELATED EMISSIONS "ISSUES" AND THIS HAS COST ME THOUSANDS OVER THE YEARS IN DIAGNOSTICS, TROUBLESHOOTING, AND MASKING OTHER PROBLEMS THAT REALLY WERE OCCURRING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON SO MUCH THAT IT'S HARD TO TELL WHEN THERE REALLY IS A PROBLEM. RECENTLY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ABOUT 9 MONTHS. THE MECHANIC CODES REVEALED THAT IT WAS RUNNING TOO "RICH." I PUT IT ON "NON-OPERABLE" FOR REGISTRATION PURPOSES WHILE I AGAIN TRIED TO FIGURE OUT WHY. ONE DAY (ON A TEMPORARY MOVING PERMIT) I WENT TO GET GASOLINE AND FILLED THE TANK HALFWAY. A FEW MILES LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF, FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I WENT TO GET A SMOG CHECK, AND WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE FAIL POLICY AT THE STATION, THE ATTENDANT SAID, "THESE TOYOTAS ALWAYS PASS THE EMISSIONS, AS LONG AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ISN'T ON." HE WAS RIGHT, AND MY RAV4 PASSED WITH PERFECT EMISSIONS COMPLIANCE. IN THE PAST I HAVE REPLACED MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER, ALL THE OXYGEN SENSORS, AND EVENTUALLY THE ENTIRE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IN ORDER TO GET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND PASS A CA SMOG CHECK. SOME YEARS AGO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. IT WAS LEAKING OIL, AND MY MECHANIC SAID JUST TO MAKE SURE IT HAD ENOUGH OIL IN IT UNTIL I COULD AFFORD TO FIX THE "LEAKY GASKETS." BUT THE PROBLEM WAS REALLY A FAULTY OIL PUMP, AND THE ENGINE SEIZED. I HAD A REBUILT ENGINE PUT IN, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. THE TOYOTA RAN FINE FOR 6 MONTHS. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. IN ALL OF THIS, TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE ACCEPTS NO FAULT. THEY SAY I SHOULD COMPLAIN TO NHTSA, AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY RECALLS. I HAVEN'T HAD SUCH AN UNRELIABLE CAR SINCE MY 1984 CHEVY CHEVETTE. MY NEXT CAR WON'T BE A TOYOTA.
I AM HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY 2005 RAV4 THAT HAS BECOME SO FREQUENT THAT I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. WHEN I AM DRIVING BETWEEN 30-50 MPH, AND THE ROAD MAKES A SLIGHT CURVE, MY VSC WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND I LOOSE STEERING CONTROL UNTIL I REMOVE FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR. ISSUE BEGAN: APRIL 2018, AND HAPPENED ABOUT 2-3 TIMES A MONTH. SINCE THEN, IT HAS GRADUALLY INCREASED TO AT LEAST ONCE EACH TIME I DRIVE. APR-NOV, MOSTLY OCCURRED ON SAME SLIGHT RIGHT CURVE UPHILL SECTION OF ROAD. IT'S STILL MOSTLY THAT, BUT NOW IT ALSO HAPPENS WHEN THE CURVE IS TO THE LEFT, OR DOWNHILL THE SPEED LIMIT IS 50 MPH WITH CONSTANT MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC WEEKDAYS ABOUT 4 ' 6 P.M. I ACCELERATE UPHILL AS I MAKE A SLIGHT RIGHT CURVE, AND SUDDENLY, THE CAR DOES THE FOLLOWING: I WILL LOOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND THE VSC WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE VSC LIGHT TURNS OFF AND I REGAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING. WHEN I APPLY THE GAS, THE SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. THE SEVERITY OF THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL SEEMS TO DEPEND UPON WHAT PART OF THE CURVE I AM IN. AS THE ROAD IS STILL SLIGHTLY CURVING TO THE RIGHT, THE CAR'S ABILITY TO ACCELERATE GREATLY DIMINISHES. THEREFORE, I AM FORCED TO DRIVE 35-40 MPH, WHICH CREATES AN ACCIDENT PRONE SCENE FOR MYSELF AND THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME THAT ARE TRAVELING 50-55 MPH. MY COMMUTE TO WORK, I'M DRIVING WEST & THIS RECENTLY STARTED DOWNHILL, THE PROBLEM OCCURS AFTER THE HILL WHERE THERE IS A SLIGHT CURVE TO THE RIGHT. ALSO, WHEN THIS OCCURS AT NIGHT, MY HEADLIGHTS WILL DIM AT THE SAME MOMENT AND FOR THE SAME LENGTH OF TIME THE VSC LIGHT COMES ON. SINCE NOVEMBER, THIS ISSUE OCCURS IF THE ROAD CURVES EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT, UPHILL OR DOWN HILL, BUT MORE OFTEN UPHILL. OCCASIONALLY, I WILL ALSO HEAR A BEEP WHILE THE LIGHT IS ON, BUT THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED MAYBE FIVE OR SIX TIMES.
DRIVERS SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. FALLS DOWN CONSTANTLY. DRIVER CANNOT SEE WHEN IT HAPPENS. I BOUGHT MY RAV4 USED AND DIDNT NOTICE IT UNTIL MY HUSBAND DROVE IT. IT DOESN'T BOTHER ME BECAUSE I'M SHORT. WHEN MY HUSBAND DRIVES IT WE HAVE TO RIG IT TO STAY UP BUT NOTHING EVER WORKS FOR LONG BEFORE IT FALLS DOWN AGAIN. IT COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN POSITION. IT FLOPS DOWN WHEN I'M DRIVING, MAKING IT SUDDENLY HARD TO SEE. THE PROBLEM STARTED VERY GRADUALLY A FEW YEARS AGO BUT NOW HAS RAPIDLY GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT AND IN COST, NOR WILL TOYOTA. I KNOW ABOUT THE COMPANY BECAUSE I CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID IT'S MY PROBLEM TO FIX. HOWEVER, THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE, AND THEY ARE IGNORING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. THE VISOR ALONE COSTS $107.52 ! THE INSTALLATION COST IS IN ADDITION TO THIS (BTW, I SELECTED TODAY'S DATE, BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE AN EXACT DATE. THE SAME APPLIES TO THE MPH - IT HAPPENS AT ALL MPH.).
WHEN DRIVING I WILL PRESS THE BREAK PEDAL AND INSTEAD OF BREAKING THE VEHICLE REACTS LIKE I HIT THE GAS INSTEAD AND SURGES FORWARD. THIS HAPPENS AT SEEMINGLY RANDOM TIMES, THE LATEST WAS YESTERDAY 7-30-2018, THE TIME BEFORE THAT WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I HIT A PARKED CAR BECAUSE OF IT. WAS TOLD BY A NON-DEALER MECHANIC IT MIGHT BE THE AIR INTAKE SENSOR, CLEANED IT AND IT DIDN'T HELP. TOYOTA DEALER OF COURSE CLAIMS TO NOT KNOW OF THE ISSUE. IT HAS DONE THIS ON CITY STREETS AND PARKING LOTS.

"TAKATA RECALL" MY CAR ONLY HAD IT'S PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG REPLACED. TOYOTA DEALER SAID THE DRIVERS SIDE (STEERING WHEEL) AIR BAG, DID NOT NEED REPLACING???? I CAN'T FIND ANY INFORMATION AS TO WHETHER IT SHOULD BE OR NOT. I'VE MISPLACED MY WORK RECEIPT, AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHANGED HANDS. SO I DON'T KNOW THE DATE OF THE REPLACEMENT OF ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP!

"TAKATA RECALL". I WAS DRIVING AND STOPPED FOR A LIGHT DOWN A ROAD IN STATEN ISLAND, NY. AS I WAS WAITING, A DEER WAS CROSSING THE ROAD. SIMULTANEOUSLY, A BUS WAS NEXT TO ME AND SCARED THE DEER WHICH CAUSED IT TO RUN STRAIGHT INTO MY VEHICLE DOING A FAIR AMOUNT OF DAMAGE WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN FIXED. MY AIRBAG DID NOT INFLATE, EVEN THOUGH I WAS HIT PRETTY HARD. I WAS SHAKEN UP BUT SUFFERED NO MAJOR INJURIES. RECALL#15V284

WHEN DRIVING 25-30 MPH AND GOING AROUND CURVES AT LOW SPEED THE CAR BREAKS HARD AND FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING OUT OF CONTROL. IT IS VERY SCARY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION DOING 25-30 MPH. THIS IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN AT LEAST THREE TIMES THIS WEEK. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FREEWAY AND ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS WHILE GOING AROUND CURVES AND NOT GOING FAST AT ALL..

THERE IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AS DESCRIBED BY TOYOTA TSB SB-0015-11, RELATING TO DEFECTIVE CYLINDER HEAD BOLT THREADS. THIS DEFECT CAUSES RAPID BURNING OF COOLANT IN THE ENGINE, LEADING TO OVERHEATING AND EXCESSIVE SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD, AND SEPARATION OF THE ENGINE HEAD RESULTING IN LOSS OF COMPRESSION AND FIRE HAZARD. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN WHEN THE ISSUE MANIFESTED. MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO REPAIR, RECALL, OR WARRANTY THE DEFECT OR ANY REPAIRS RESULTING FROM THE SAME. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON MANY AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS, ALONG WITH CONFIRMATIONS FROM CERTIFIED AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS.

WE JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A CRAIGSLIST AD, WHERE THE SELLER PRETENDED TO BE ONE OWNER/PRIVATE BUT WAS REALLY A DEALERSHIP WHO BOUGHT IT AT INDIANA AUCTION. HE ENDANGERS US & BREAKS INDIANA LAW AS DEALERS MUST DISCLOSE RECALLS HERE. I NEED TO KNOW, BEFORE A WRECK, IF THE AIR BAGS WERE REPLACED. PLEASE HELP. 1) EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION STARTED EARLIER THIS YEAR WHEN OIL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON WELL BEFORE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WAS DUE. INITIALLY, THE MECHANIC WAS NOT CONCERNED AND JUST TOPPED OFF THE OIL, AND I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT THE NEXT SCHEDULED DATE (MECHANIC DID NOTE THAT THE OIL WAS AGAIN LOW, BUT NOT LOW ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE OIL LIGHT). ABOUT A 1000 MILES AFTER THAT CHANGE, THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND THE MECHANIC DID THE SAME THING. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN, I TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE OIL CHANGED (EARLIER THAN SCHEDULED), AND PERSONALLY VERIFIED THE OIL LEVEL. SAME THING AGAIN, AND THIS TIME HAD THE SHOP RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ($250 TYVM) AND WAS TOLD THE REPAIR (REMOVE AND REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD VALVE STEM SEALS, HEAD GASKET, AND VALVE COVER GASKET) WOULD COST IN EXCESS OF $3,400.00. 2) CHECK ENGINE AND VSC TRAC INDICATOR LIGHTS ENGAGED AND MECHANIC INITIALLY INDICATED THAT AN NEW GAS CAP WAS NEEDED, HOWEVER THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE, AND HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RAN ($250 TYVM) AND WAS TOLD THE REPAIR (REMOVE AND REPLACE THE EVAC CANISTER) WOULD COST IN EXCESS OF $875.00. KIND OF DISAPPOINTED IN THE "TOYOTA QUALITY" AT THIS POINT.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, CONKLIN MOTORS 785-825-8271 (THE SAME PLACE WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW) AT LEAST 5 TIMES SINCE OCTOBER 2015 RE: THE TAKATA RECALL. THE FIRST 3 TIMES I CALLED, I WAS DIRECTED TO VOICE MAIL AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND LEFT A MESSAGE & MY PHONE NUMBER TO SCHEDULE AIR BAG REPLACEMENT. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. IN JANUARY, I PHONED AGAIN & SPOKE TO A REAL PERSON (A WOMAN) WHO SAID THAT THE BAG WAS ON BACK-ORDER, AND THAT CONKLIN WOULD CALL ME TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WHEN THE PART ARRIVED. IN FEBRUARY, I CALLED AGAIN AND SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS TOLD TO WAIT UNTIL CONKLIN CALLED ME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL WORK. I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT THEY ARE GIVING ME THE RUN-AROUND. I AM HESITANT TO DRIVE THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CAR, BUT I REALLY HAVE NO CHOICE, DO I? CAN ANYTHING BE DONE? I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN IGNORED AT THE LOCAL LEVEL.
I'VE TAKEN TO 6 MECHANICS AND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IT IS BECAUSE THE LIGHT IS NO CONSTANTLY ON. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY WANTED $400 TO DIAGNOSE AND THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS DANGEROUS ISSUE BECAUSE I LOSE CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE WHEN THE ROAD IS CLEAR AND DRY. IT BEEPS AND I GUESS TRIES TO STABILIZE ITSELF. ALWAYS ON THE HIGHWAY. ON THE STREETS THE TRACTION LIGHT FLASHES FREQUENTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THREADS IN THE ENGINE BLOCK WERE FRACTURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING COOLANT. TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL. I HAVE TRIED FOR MONTHS TO GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. I HAVE GOTTEN THE RUNAROUND FROM MY LOCAL DEALER. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SEEMS UNABLE TO HELP. BOTH KEEP TELLING ME THE PART WILL BE IN NEXT WEEK, BUT NEXT WEEK NEVER COMES. IF THE SITUATION POSES A RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH AS IS STATED IN MY RECALL NOTICES, IT WOULD SEEM THEY COULD GET IN GEAR AND FIX THE PROBLEM WITHIN A REASONABLE LENGTH OF TIME. I DON'T CONSIDER 7 MONTHS REASONABLE. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY CAR FIXED OR SOME OTHER REMEDY WE CAN AGREE ON. THANK YOU. *TR UPDATED 1/27/16*JS

I'VE BEEN HAVING AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH MY 2005 RAV 4. WHEN EXITING A HIGHWAY ON A SWEEPING RIGHT CURVE EXIT RAMP, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT WILL START TO FLASH AND AN AUDIBLE BEEP CAN BE HEARD IN THE CABIN. THIS USUALLY INDICATES THE CAR IS IN A SKID BUT I ASSURE YOU I AM IN FULL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, IN ITS LANE. AFTER 2 TO 3 SECONDS OF CONSTANT BEEPING THE ENGINE CUTS POWER AND APPLIES BRAKING TO AN INDIVIDUAL WHEEL, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH SLIGHTLY TO ONE SIDE. JUST AS QUICKLY AS THIS HAPPENS, THE CAR RESUMES NORMAL OPERATION AND THE ISSUE CEASES TO EXIST. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS VERY ISSUE IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS. MOST HAPPEN AT SLOW SPEEDS (UNDER 35MPH) AND ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE VEHICLE SUSPENSION AND ALIGNMENT ARE WITHIN OPERATING SPECIFICATION. I HAVE NOTICED HOWEVER, THAT THE STEERING RACK BUSHINGS ARE WORN. THIS CAUSES THE ENTIRE RACK TO MOVE ABOUT SLIGHTLY WITHIN THE CONSTRAINTS OF ITS MOUNT. TO MY DISMAY, TOYOTA DOES NOT SELL REPLACEMENT BUSHINGS FOR THE STEERING RACK ON 2004-2005 MODEL RAV-4'S, FORCING OWNERS TO PAY FOR A COMPLETELY NEW STEERING RACK. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FROM A BRAND THAT PRIDES ITSELF ON RELIABILITY AND REASONABLY PRICED MAINTENANCE. THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE IS COMPROMISED BY AN SUBSTANDARD ENGINEERED COMPONENTS. IE: STEERING BUSHINGS; CAUSING TOO MUCH PLAY AND ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM TO INADVERTENTLY ACTIVATE, CAUSING A DANGEROUS UNSETTLING OF THE VEHICLE.

RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON AIR BAG AND MADE ON-LINE APPOINTMENT WITH LARRY MILLER TOYOTA FOR NEXT WEEK WITH THE RECALL INFO AND MY VEHICLE VIN NUMBER. NOTICE SAID REPAIR WOULD TAKE 1 1/2 HOUR. LEFT CAR AT 8AM, AT 2 PM RECEIVED CALL FROM DEALER SUGGESTING I DO OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS & OH BY THE WAY, THE RECALL COULD NOT BE DONE TILL THEY ORDERED A PART. NOTHING IN THE RECALL, PRE-APPOINTMENT EMAILS FROM DEALER OR IN DISCUSSION WHEN I DROPPED OFF THE CAR SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A PART NEEDING TO BE ORDERED. THEN THEY TRY TO SELL ME REPAIRS THAT I DIDN'T ASK THEM TO EVEN LOOK AT?
CONTACTED IRA TOYOTA DANVERS FOR RECALL REPAIR TO DRIVER'S AIRBAG AFTER RECEIVING RECALL NOTICE. TOLD PARTS MUST BE ORDERED AND DEALER WOULD CALL TO SCHEDULE REPAIR. NO CALL HAS BEEN RECEIVED AFTER MORE THAN 10 DAYS ALTHOUGH TOYOTA STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT REPAIR BE DONE IMMEDIATELY. .
RAV4 WAS TOTAL STOPPED ON A STOP SIGN. ON TAKING THE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PADDLE TO MOVE AHEAD ON GREEN SIGNAL, EVEN BEFORE THE FOOT TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR PADDLE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT HIGH SPEED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE DRIVER HAS BEEN DRIVING THIS RAV4 FOR FEW YEARS AND HAS A VERY CLEAN DRIVING RECORD AND WAS AT REGULAR UNIVERSITY STOP. THE DAMAGE WAS SO BAD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED BY INSURANCE. THE DAMAGE LOOKS LIKE A HIGH SPEED IMPACT. A OLD 2005 RAV4 WITH 122000 MILES ON IT CANNOT MOVE THAT FAST EVEN IF TRIED. THE DAMAGE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. THE POLICE OFFICER WAS INFORMED THAT THE INCIDENT WAS CONFUSING AND LATER THINKING BACK, IT LOOKED IMPOSSIBLE TO BE BECAUSE OF HUMAN ERROR EVEN IF TRIED. THE HOUSEHOLD HAS CLEAN RECORD (NO TICKETS, NO ACCIDENTS FROM US) ON 3 VEHICLES FOR PAST 15 YEARS. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A REGULAR DAILY UNIVERSITY STOP WHERE THE VEHICLES ARE DRIVEN SLOWLY ANYWAYS. THE DAMAGE SPEAKS FOR ITSELF THAT THE VEHICLE HAD UNCONTROLLABLE SITUATION. INCIDENT HAPPENED MOVING FROM A DEAD TOTAL STOPPED VEHICLE (0 MPH). BUT THE DAMAGE LOOKS LIKE THE VEHICLE CRASHED IN WITH A HIGH SPEED. BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE OTHER DRIVER WERE CONFUSED, AS NOTED TO THE ATTENDING POLICE OFFICER.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ABOUT A SAFETY RECALL MID SUMMER. IT SAID I WOULD RECEIVE A SECOND LETTER WHEN A REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING SINCE. THE ISSUE IS THAT THERE COULD BE A POTENTIAL FOR MOISTURE INTRUSION THAT COULD MAKE THE AIRBAG INFLATOR MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO RUPTURE DURING A CRASH. IF THIS HAPPENED METAL FRAGMENTS COULD STRIKE THE DRIVER OR OTHER PASSENGERS RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. Y 26 YR OLD SON IS DRIVING THIS CAR NOW AND I BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONTACTED WITH A REMEDY BY NOW, CONSIDERING THE POSSIBLE DANGER. I WAS TOLD TO FILE A COMPLAINT HERE.

I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE (INTERIM NOTICE) A FEW MONTHS AGO. I CONTACTED BOCH TOYOTA SOUTH IN THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER (VIA EMAIL) REGARDING WHEN THE "REMEDY" WILL BE READY IN EARLY SEPTEMBER. I RECEIVED TWO CONFIRMATION MESSAGES THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED MY EMAIL. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN OVER THE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I TRANSPORT THREE CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL. MY 2005 RAV4 IS PART OF TOYOTA'S RECALL ACTION 15V-284. LEITH TOYOTA HAS REPLACED MY DEFECTIVE TAKATA INFLATOR WITH YET ANOTHER DEFECTIVE TAKATA INFLATOR. THERE DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE AN ENGINEERING SOLUTION TO THEIR EXPLODING AIRBAG PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO PAGE 6 OF THE JULY 9, 2015 LETTER THAT TOYOTA SENT TO NHTSA, AND I QUOTE, "TOYOTA'S OTHER RECALL ACTION, 15V-284, INVOLVES DRIVER'S INFLATORS IN A RELATIVELY SMALL NUMBER OF VEHICLES. INFLATORS FROM A SUPPLIER OTHER THAN TAKATA HAVE BEEN SECURED, AND WE EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO LAUNCH RECALL REPAIRS FIRST IN THE HAH AREAS, FOLLOWED BY THE REST OF THE NATION TOWARD THE END OF THIS YEAR". TOYOTA HAS NOT SATISFIED THIS RECALL ACCORDING TO THE TERMS IT PROVIDED TO THE NHTSA. I WAS FORCED TO RETURN THE RENTAL CAR I WAS PROVIDED WITH AND AM HAVING TO GET RIDES IN TO WORK AND RENTING A CAR ON THE WEEKENDS. MY CAR NEEDS TO BE FIXED PROPERLY! NO MORE TAKATA INFLATORS!
MY TOYOTA RAV4 2005 IS INCLUDED IN THE FRONT DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR RECALL. I RECEIVED MY FIRST NOTICE FROM TOYOTA IN MAY,2015 THAT MY CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT THAT "NO REMEDY" WAS AVAILABLE AND THAT I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE. I RECEIVED THAT NOTICE OF THE AVAILABLE REMEDY A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. AFTER 4 CALLS TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR TO THE AIRBAG, I WAS TOLD BY PRINCIPLE TOYOTA IN MEMPHIS, TN THAT THE DEALERSHIP IS ONLY ALLOWED TO ORDER ONE PART PER WEEK FOR REPAIRS TO RAV4 VEHICLES SO IT COULD BE AS MUCH AS A MONTH POSSIBLY TWO MONTHS BEFORE THEY COULD GET THE PART ORDERED. IF TOYOTA ADVISED ME THE REMEDY WAS AVAILABLE, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO SCHEDULE THAT REPAIR IMMEDIATELY.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY 2005 TOYOTA RAV4 ABOUT A DEFECTIVE TAKATA DRIVER'S AIRBAG. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE AIRBAG WAS REPLACED ON AUG. 27, 2015. TO DATE I HAVEN'T RECEIVED A SECOND LETTER FROM TOYOTA EXPLAINING THE SOLUTION TO THE RECALL, AND I'VE CALLED THEM AND BEEN PROVIDED WITH NO INFORMATION. I'M CALLING TOYOTA AGAIN TODAY. ON SEPT. 2, I LEARNED FROM LEITH TOYOTA THAT MY DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAG WAS REPLACED BY ANOTHER POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAG. THIS IS THE SOLUTION? THIS WAS WHAT TOYOTA TOLD THE DEALERSHIP TO DO. AN ARTICLE RELEASED IN SEPT. 2015 MOTOR TREND MAGAZINE DETAILS THE SAME CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH CURRENT TAKATA AIRBAGS BEING MANUFACTURED. I AM NEITHER SATISFIED NOR COMFORTABLE WITH THE SOLUTION THAT TOYOTA DEVISED, ESPECIALLY SINCE TOYOTA RECENTLY PURCHASED 13 MILLION AIRBAGS FROM A COMPETITOR, SO WHY WASN'T A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER'S AIRBAG USED IN MY CAR? I'M ONCE AGAIN HAVING TO DEAL WITH ANOTHER POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAG. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, MY PASSENGER AIRBAG IS THE SAME AIRBAG AS THE ORIGINAL DRIVER'S AIRBAG, SO WHY NO RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG? I'M BEING FORCED TO RETURN THE RENTAL CAR TODAY, WHICH I'VE NOT RETURNED DUE TO THE WAY THE RECALL WAS CONDUCTED AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR AGAIN. EVERYONE SHOULD BE CHECKING ON THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS BEING USED IN THEIR CARS, BECAUSE THEY'RE PROBABLY TAKATAS. TAKATA KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IN 2001 AND MY RAV4 IS A 2005. I CAN'T EXPRESS MY LEVEL OF FRUSTRATION AND ANGER OVER THESE AIRBAGS.

I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON JULY 7, 2015 CONCERNING THE TAKATA DRIVER'S AIRBAG RECALL. A LOCAL DEALERSHIP PUT ME IN A RENTAL CAR THE NEXT DAY. ON THURSDAY, JULY 27, 2015, THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON MY HOME PHONE THAT THE PART HAD BEEN RECEIVED AND MY CAR WAS REPAIRED. AS OF SEPT. 1, 2015, WHEN I ENTER MY VIN # ON YOUR DATABASE, MY RECALL STATUS IS LISTED AS: RECALL INCOMPLETE. THIS INFORMATION WAS UPDATED TODAY. HAS MY CAR BEEN REPAIRED? I ALSO HAVEN'T RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA NOTIFYING ME WHEN A REMEDY IS READY AS IS STATED IN THE INTERIM NOTICE. IS THERE A REMEDY YET? I CALLED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER (PHONE NUMBER IN INTERIM LETTER) ON SAT., AUG. 29, 2015 AND WASN'T PROVIDED WITH ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
A REPRESENTATIVE AT PASSPORT TOYOTA, LOCATED AT 5001 AUTH WAY, SUITLAND, MD TOLD ME THAT BECAUSE MY AIRBAG LIGHT WASN'T ON THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE UNTIL TOYOTA ANNOUNCES A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR MY CAR. THIS IS NOT ONLY IN DIRECT VIOLATION OF MY RECALL NOTICE (IT SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT IF I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING MY CAR, THEN THE DEALERSHIP WILL PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL) BUT DISPLAYS THAT REPRESENTATIVE'S IGNORANCE OF THE RECALL NOTIFICATION, WHICH ALSO STATES THAT THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT OR OTHER INDICATION THAT THE ISSUE WITH MY DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG EXISTS. SINCE I LIVE IN A MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA (WASHINGTON DC) WHERE MULTIPLE VEHICLE ACCIDENTS HAPPEN DAILY, I FEEL INCREDIBLY UNSAFE DRIVING WITHOUT THE FULL ASSURANCE OF A WORKING DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG. AS STIPULATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE, THE DEALERSHIP IS OBLIGED TO PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE GIVEN THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT HAVE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. I ALSO CALLED DARCARS TOYOTA ON 12210 CHERRY HILL ROAD, SILVER SPRING, MD, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A CAR EITHER. I FIND IT APPALLING AND ABHORRENT THAT 2 DEALERSHIPS IN A MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA WOULD REFUSE TO COMPLY WITH THE CONDITIONS OF A RECALL NOTICE, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT INVOLVES A DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG GIVEN THE CURRENT RECALL SITUATION WITH A SIMILAR PART ON A DIFFERENT VEHICLE.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HEARD A LOUD BANG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS THE TRANSMISSION WAS SKIPPING. I JUST BARELY REACHED A SPOT THAT I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. WHEN I TRIED TO DRIVE AGAIN I COULDN'T GO IN EITHER REVERSE OR DRIVE. I CHECKED AND I WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, 2 HOURS LATER AFTER GETTING TOWED TO A AUTO BODY SHOP THEY TOLD ME THE DIFFERENTIAL BLEW UP AND THAT I HAD TO GET ME A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE A SAW THIS SAME THING HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE BUT TOYOTA NEVER DID A RECALL!! NOW I HAVE TO PAY $300 TO GET IT TOWED AND ANOTHER $2600 TO GET IT FIXED ON A CAR THAT ONLY HAD 51,000 MILES.
STARTED MY TRIP FROM HOME AND I BLOCK AWAY I TRIED TO STOP FOR A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKE WOULD NOT HOLD. I PRESSED AS HARD AS I COULD HITTING THE FLOOR NO BRAKE. THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHEN I HIT THE CURB. CONTINUE DRIVING AND STEPPING ON BRAKE TO SEE IF PROBLEM CONTINUE SAME PROBLEM. HAD TO SLOWLY RETURN HOME. I DROVE THE VEHICLE THE PREVIOUS NIGHT WHICH WAS 6 HRS EARLIER AND DID NOT RECEIVED ANY INDICATION ON THE DASHBOARD THAT THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM AND STILL THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. *TR
THE SUN VISORS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DO NOT STAY UP.THEY FLOP DOWN AND CAUSE A VISIBILITY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT.I PUSH THE VISORS UP AND THEY IMMEDIATELY FALL DOWN COVERING THE TOP HALF OF THE WINDSHIELD . *TR
I WAS PARKING, 10 MINUTES EARLY, ENTERING THE SPOT AT ABOUT 1 MPH, MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. MY CAR LURCHED OVER A LARGE CURB AND LAUNCHED ITSELF INTO A BUILDING. AS IT WAS LURCHING INTO THE BUILDING, I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND PULLED ON THE PARKING BRAKE WITH MY RIGHT HAND AND ARM. THESE ACTIONS STOPPED THE CAR AS IT CRASHED INTO THE GLASS AND METAL FRONT WINDOWS. I HAD BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENTS, NOT EVEN A TICKET, FOR 38 YEARS. AFTER THE ACCIDENT I HAD TOYOTA INSPECT THE CAR. THEIR FINDING WAS THAT THE "ACCELERATOR PEDAL OPERATED SMOOTHLY AND RETURNED TO ITS IDLE POSITION WITHOUT ANY STICKING OR HESITATION," AND THAT THE INSPECTOR "WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE YOUR CONCERN." I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS DETERMINES ANYTHING WITH REGARD TO THIS ACCIDENT. I DO KNOW THAT MY EXPERIENCE AS A DRIVER AND MY ABILITY TO STOP THE CAR KEPT THIS ACCIDENT FROM BEING FAR WORSE. AS A RESULT OF MY ACTIONS TO STOP THE CAR, MY RIGHT ARM SUFFERED SEVERE NERVE DAMAGE. I STILL BELIEVE TO THIS DAY THAT THIS WAS AN INCIDENT OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *TR

WAS TOLD IN 2010 THAT CAUSE OF THE BACK BRAKES SQUEAKING (IN REVERSE ONLY) WAS BECAUSE ALL RAV4S HAVE THAT PROBLEM. JUST ASSUMED THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. RECENTLY WENT TO NON-DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A FILM (DON'T REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS CALLED) THAT WAS PROBABLY MAKING THEM SQUEAK. HAD BRAKES REPLACED ON ALL WHEELS AND HAD THEY INSPECTED AND CLEANED THE WHOLE AREA AROUND THE BRAKES TO SEE IF THEY COULD STOP THE SQUEAKING. IT WORKED BUT JUST FOR A SHORT TIME. IT IS ANNOYING BECAUSE NOW IT SQUEAKS WHEN STOPPING IN FORWARD POSITION AND WHEN IN REVERSE AND APPLYING BRAKES. NEED TO FIND A REMEDY AS I WANT TO SELL MY CAR BUT CAN'T IF THIS ISSUE ISN'T TAKEN CARE OF. DEALERSHIP IS NOT HELPFUL AT ALL (SEE FIRST SENTENCE). *TR

PULLED OFF THE MAJOR ROAD INTO AN ABANDONED BUSINESS DRIVEWAY. TURNED RAV OFF AND RAN. PASSERBY CALLED 911. FIRE TRUCKS/POLICE ARRIVED. RAV WAS A TOTAL LOSS. CALLED TOYOTA USA TO REPORT FIRE. THEY ARE SAYING THAT IT WAS NOT MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL. BUT THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CAUSE OF FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED AND THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY SORT OF DEFECT OR MALFUNCTION WITH ANY OF THE ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL SYSTEMS FOUND. RAV WENT TO DEALER FOR ALL REQUIRED SERVICE AND NEVER HAD AND MAJOR PROBLEMS. IF IT WAS NOT ELECTRICAL THEN WHAT CAUSED MY LIGHTS TO COME ON. THEE VSC TRAC LIGHT HAD NEVER COME ON SINCE I OWNED THE CAR. I HAVE OWNED TOYOTAS SINCE 1973 AND NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN. THE RAV4 WAS MY 5TH TOYOTA.
THE LOWER CONTROL ARM IN THE RECALL FROM TOYOTA BROKE AWAY, FROM WHAT WE FOUND AND WERE TOLD BY PEOPLE WHO INSPECTED THE CAR FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOR THEIR LAW SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA. THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE MADE A NOISE WHEN IT ROLLED BACK. WE IMPACTED THE CENTER DIVIDER AT 60-65 MPH. THERE WAS NO WAY TO COMPENSATE AND STEER AWAY IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY. THE SAFETY BELTS HURT ON IMPACT AND OUR KNEES TOOK THE IMPACT. AT IMPACT THE FRONT END OF THE CAR WAS TORN AWAY AND DESTROYED FROM THE RADIATOR TO THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WAS WARPED AND THE CAR WRINKLED ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL. INSIDE THE BACK OF THE CAR PANELS FOR STORAGE ALL POPPED OUT.THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS WOULD NOT OPERATE WHEN THE TROOPERS CAME. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DETERMINED THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. TOYOTA IGNORED OUR ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE OUR COMPLAINT WITHOUT LITIGATION SO WE ARE SUING TOYOTA FOR OUR LOSSES AND INJURIES. *TR
MY TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM KEEPS TURNING ON REGARDLESS OF WHETHER TIRE PRESSURE GAUGES OR MECHANICS SAY THE TIRE PRESSURE IS WITHIN RANGE. I KNOW THIS SYSTEM HAD A RECALL ON OTHER MODEL YEARS FOR TOYOTA, AND I THINK THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS ONE, TOO. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP--UNKNOWN IF IT WAS AN ISSUE BEFORE THEN. RESETTING THE SYSTEM (BY PRESSING THE RESET BUTTON TO THE LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AS INDICATED IN THE USER MANUAL) ONLY TURNS THE LIGHT OFF FOR A MINUTE OR TWO, THEN IT COMES RIGHT BACK ON. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 4 CYLINDER TOYOTA RAV4 WITH ABOUT 68,000 MILES. IT STARTING MAKING A GURGLING NOISE IN THE DASHBOARD AREA, AND EVENTUALLY LEFT 2 PUDDLES OF ANTI-FREEZE ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER CHECKING THE RAV4 OUT, THE REPAIR MANAGER PHONED TO TELL ME THE ENGINE WAS INDEED LEAKING COOLANT AROUND THE ENGINE HEAD BECAUSE THE ENGINE BOLTS HAD STRIPPED. I ASKED HOW THE HEAD BOLTS GOT STRIPPED AND HE REPLIED, "WEAR AND TEAR AND THE REPAIR WOULD BE AROUND $3000.00 IF THE HEAD BOLT HOLES COULD BE REPAIRED; OTHERWISE, I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE." THE RAV4 HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, SO THIS IS NOT "WEAR AND TEAR", BUT RATHER A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. AFTER TALKING WITH THE MECHANIC DOING THE REPAIRS, HE SAID THEY SEE MANY OF THESE 4 CYLINDER ENGINES WITH THIS PROBLEM -- MOSTLY ON THE CAMRY, SINCE IT IS BASICALLY A CAMRY ENGINE. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS BECOMING QUITE A COMMON PROBLEM. HERE A FEW WEBSITES WITH VERY UNHAPPY TOYOTA OWNERS: (HTTP://TOWNHALL-TALK.EDMUNDS.COM/DIRECT/VIEW/.EE9E769/8444; HTTP://WWW.EDMUNDS.COM/TOYOTA/HIGHLANDER/2003/CONSUMER-REVIEWS.HTML; HTTP://WWW.CAMRYFORUMS.COM/FORUM/GENERAL-TECH-8/2002-STRIPPED-HEAD-BOLTS-4585/; HTTP://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/TOYOTA/HIGHLANDER/2003/ENGINE/THREADS_FOR_ENGINE_BOLTS_STRIPPED.SHTML) APPARENTLY, TOYOTA HAS NOT DONE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND DOES NOT EVEN COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH THEY DO HAVE A WRITTEN PROCEDURE THE MECHANICS USE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. *TR

INTERMITTENT "LOOSE" STEERING FEELING IN 2005 TOYOTA RAV-4. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO PROBLEM OR RECALL. MY CONCERNS WERE DISMISSED AND NOW I SEE THAT IT HAS HAPPENED IN OTHER MODELS RECENTLY. MY BOYFRIEND FELT IT HAPPEN 2X.WHEN HE WAS DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED PROBABLY 15-20 TIMES TOTAL. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL ACCELERATION FROM A STOP WHILE DRIVING MY RAV4 IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN TRUE SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON IT. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT WITH NO CHANGE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TWO TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS (ONE HAD THE CAR FOR EVALUATION FOR A DAY AND CHARGED ME A DIAGNOSIS FEE AND FOR A RENTAL CAR) THAT THIS IS NORMAL. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD. I HOLD A COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE AND HAVE HAD MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE DRIVING A WIDE VARIETY OF VEHICLES AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE CAR HITS SOMETHING. TOYOTA MUST ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS REMEDIED THERE IS THE REAL RISK OF SOMETHING OR SOMEONE BEING DAMAGED OR HURT (OR WORSE). UPDATE: ON MARCH 3, 2010 I DELIVERED THE CAR TO DICK DYER IN COLUMBIA, SC AT TOYOTA'S REQUEST. THE REGIONAL TECHNICIAN INSPECTED THE CAR THAT DAY. I HAVE SINCE BEEN CONTACTED BY THE GENERAL MANAGER AND INFORMED THAT TOYOTA IS FLYING A TEAM OF ENGINEERS FROM CALIFORNIA TO EVALUATE THE CAR NEXT MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2010. *TR UPDATED IVOQ 05/28/10.*JB THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE ELECTRONIC SOFTWARE, INTERFACE DESIGN WAS FLAWED. THE THROTTLE PEDAL AND THE ENGINE DID NOT ACCURATELY TRACK EACH OTHER. THERE WAS A DELAY, WHICH RESULTED IN AN ABRUPT AND EXCESSIVE ENGINE RESPONSE. UPDATED 09/26/12
TOYOTA 2005 RAV4 CAR ACCELERATED WHEN GETTING READY TO STOP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PULLING INTO THE PARKING SPOT AT APPROX 1-2 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, JUMPED THE CURB AND CRASHED INTO A BUILDING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. SHE HAD NOT NOTICED ANY PROBLEMS WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION BEFORE THAT FAILURE. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DATE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 99,200. UPDATED 5/6/10 *CN UPDATED 06/24/10.*JB
THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE SPEED WAS ALWAYS RELATIVELY LOW (30 MILES/HOUR OR LESS). I NEVER KNEW WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN, SO I NEVER REPORTED IT BECAUSE IT WAS NON-REPEATABLE. IT HAPPENED EVERY FEW MONTHS. I CAN'T PUT INCIDENT DATES SINCE IT WAS RECURRING, BUT I NEED TO FILL THAT IN, SO I'LL FILL IT IN WITH THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED. *TR
THE ABS BRAKES ON MY 2005 TOYOTA RAV4 DO NOT GRAB PROPERLY ON UNEVEN SURFACES. THEY SEEM TO TRY TO SLOW DOWN RATHER THAN STOP, ESPECIALLY AFTER HITTING A POTHOLE, OR BEING ON BUMPY ROAD. I ALMOST ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. *TR
I HAVE A TOYOTA 2005 RAV 4 - 6 CYL. I AM EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE TOYOTA RECALLS, ACCORDING TO TOYOTA. TWICE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, AFTER THE VEHICLE IDLES DOWN FROM MOVING, THE ENGINE REVS UP AGAIN. THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT TOUCHED AND THE FLOOR MAT IS NOT IN THE WAY. THE ENGINE REVVING UP IS SCARY ENOUGH THAT SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF MY CAR THOUGHT I WAS SPINNING MY WHEELS IN THE SNOW AND ICE, AND I WAS NOT MOVING. I TOOK IT IN TO A DEALER AND THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THEIR COMPUTER AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. OF COURSE WHEN THEY DROVE IT, THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN THAT I IMMEDIATELY HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 RAV4 NOW WITH 35,000 MILEAGE AND I EXPERIENCED AN UNUSUAL MECHANICAL ISSUE THAT MAY HAVE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS! IN DECEMBER 2009 I WENT TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES ON MY VEHICLE AT A SEARS AUTO SHOP AND HAD REQUESTED THE RECOMMENDED WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE MECHANISMS ON THE VEHICLE THAT FACILITATES ALIGNMENT WAS INOPERATIVE AS IT WAS FOUND TO BE SEIZED UP, FOR BOTH FRONT AND REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS! SEARS INFORMED ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MY TOYOTA DEALER FOR ALIGNMENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT DOES ALL MY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SINCE I BOUGHT THE NEW VEHICLE FOR THEM TO DO THE ALIGNMENT. THEY WERE ALSO UNABLE TO DO THE ALIGNMENT FOR THE SAME REASON SEARS WERE UNABLE TO DO IT. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE MECHANISMS AND THAT THEY HAVE TO REMOVE THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE TO GET TO THE ALIGNMENT MECHANISMS AND TO REPLACE THE MECHANISMS. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THEY HAD BEEN SERVICING THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THEIR RECOMMENDED SERVICING SCHEDULE AND THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THE CONDITION OF THE MECHANISM. THEY SAID THE CAR HAS TOO MANY PARTS AND THAT THEY COULD NOT CHECK ALL THE PARTS; AND MOREOVER, THE ALIGNMENT MECHANISMS, THEY SAID, ARE NOT VISIBLE FROM AN UNDERCARRIAGE INSPECTION. WAS THIS DEFECT A SAFETY MATTER? HAS THERE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT ALIGNMENT MECHANISMS FOR TOYOTA VEHICLES? *TR
I HAVE A 2005 RAV4, THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING, IT IS AN AUTOMATIC AND SOMETIMES IT WON'T CHANGE GEARS WHEN IT SHOULD, SO IT WON'T ACCELERATE AND WHEN IT FINALLY DOES SWITCH TO THE NEXT GEAR THE WHO CAR JERKS AND TAKES OFF VERY QUICKLY. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING FOR NO REASON I HAVE NOT HAD ANY SORT OF ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE AND TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY CAMPBELL MOTORS IN HERMISTON OR, THAT THE ONLY OPTION IS TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR A COST OF $3900. I HAVE READ THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE RAV4 AND FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION IT IS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC TO HAVE A CAR THAT JERKS AROUND AND ACCELERATES/WON'T ACCELERATE IN AN UNPREDICTABLE MANNER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 1-10 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; PROCEEDING TO TURN MAKE A LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION THERE WAS AN UNINTENDED INCREASE IN ACCELERATION. THE DRIVER APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO AN OPPOSING VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE POLICE WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE BODY DAMAGES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
WE WERE APPROACHING OUR GARAGE WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN OUR 2005 TOYOTA RAV4 ACCELERATED WITHOUT ME PUSHING THE GAS PETAL. WE DROVE THROUGH THE FRONT OF OUR GARAGE, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO OUR GARAGE AND THE SUV. BOTH GARAGE DOORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE FRONT OF OUR GARAGE HAD TO BE REFRAMED AND DRY-WALLED INSIDE. MY HUSBANDS 1977 JEEP-CJ7 THAT HAS BEEN TOTALLY RESTORED WAS DAMAGED AND HAD TO BE REPAINTED. THE SUV SUFFERED DAMAGE REQUIRING A NEW PASSENGER DOOR, NEW PASSENGER SIDE TRIM, NEW SIDE MIRRORS, NEW HEADLIGHTS, AND REPAINTING OF THE FRONT HALF OF THE SUV. WE CONTACTED THE POLICE AND THEY SAID SINCE THE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO OUR PROPERTY NO REPORT NEEDED TO BE FILED. WE DID TAKE PICTURES FOR THE INSURANCE COMPANY WHICH WE STILL HAVE, AND WE CAN OBTAIN A COPY OF THE REPORT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND OR THE BODY SHOPS. WE ALSO CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND QUESTIONED WHETHER THERE WERE ANY RECALLS OR PROBLEMS WITH ANY OTHER RAV4S AND THEY SAID NO. WE HAVE NOTICED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE SOME TIMES WHEN THE THROTTLE SEEMS TO ACCELERATE WHILE WE ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, BUT NOTHING AS SEVERE AS THE ACCIDENT. WITH THE RECENT RECALLS OF TOYOTAS WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT OCCURRING AND FOR THE SAFETY OF LIVES. *CN

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA RAV-4. THE DRIVER-SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY SECURE IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION. AS A CONSEQUENCE THE VISOR WILL CONTINUOUSLY FALL DOWN WITHOUT PHYSICAL MANIPULATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $100.00 TO REPLACE THE COMPONENT. HE THEN ADDED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON FOR THIS MODEL TYPE. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4 IN JULY OF 2005, AND HAVE TAKEN SUPERB CARE OF IT OVER THE YEARS. HOWEVER, THE TRANSMISSION BLEW UP ON ME AFTER JUST 89,000 MILES. I WAS CROSSING A DOUBLE SET OF RAILROAD TRACKS WHEN THIS HAPPENED, AND IT SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH. IT'S COSTING ME $3,000 TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION, AND THE GUY AT THE GARAGE COULDN'T EVEN GIVE ME A REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING. AFTER SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO NUMEROUS '01-'05 RAV4 CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE REACHED JUST OVER 80,000 MILES DUE TO A FAULTY ECM THAT TOYOTA HAS DECIDED NOT TO RECALL. NOW I NEED TO PAY ANOTHER $1,200 TO HAVE THE ECM REPLACED AT THE TOYOTA DEALER SO THAT THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ME AGAIN. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS? *TR
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2005 TOYOTA RAV4 HAS BEGUN TO SLIP. I HAVE MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE IN ACCORDANCE TO THE PRESCRIBED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE AND HAVE HAD MOST OF THE SERVICES PERFORMED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS APPROXIMATELY ONCE A WEEK, ALWAYS AT SPEEDS BELOW 40. TODAY I WAS ENTERING A FREEWAY AND I HEARD THE TRANSMISSION SLIP. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST PROPULSION, SLOWING TO A DANGEROUS SPEED FOR AN ACCELERATION RAMP, AND I WAS AFRAID THAT I WAS GOING TO BE REAR-ENDED. I HAVE DONE INTERNET RESEARCH AND SEE THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA'S CORPORATE OFFICE AND BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I'VE HAD MOST OF MY SERVICES DONE; THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THE COMPUTER ON THE TRANSMISSION RESET, AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $125. I'M AFRAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO FAIL COMPLETELY, OR THAT A SLIP/DISENGAGEMENT IS GOING TO CAUSE ME TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4 WHICH, BECAUSE OF THE SHODDY MATERIAL, I.E., PLASTIC, USED ON THE FENDERS/BUMPERS, BODY OF THE CAR, I HAVE HAD COSTLY DAMAGE WHICH I HAVE HAD TO PAY $1,000 DEDUCTIBLE EVERY TIME, DONE DUE TO BEING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR OR PERSONAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER, ETC. I LOVE MY CAR BUT ALL THAT HAS TO BE DONE TO THE CAR IS FOR ANOTHER CAR OR A POLE OR WHATEVER, TO EVEN A LITTLE MORE THAN LIGHTLY HIT IT AND IT CAVES IN LIKE A PIECE OF ALUMINUM OR PLASTIC. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE WAY CARS ARE MADE NOWADAYS. I COULD'VE BEEN KILLED THIS PAST SUNDAY WHEN I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY AND HIT SOMEONE. MY FRONT FENDER GOT THE BRUNT OF THE DAMAGE. I USED TO HAVE A 1992 TOYOTA TERCEL WITH FENDERS/BUMPERS THAT WERE STRONG AND COULD WITHSTAND A COLLISION. THIS IS RIDICULOUS, NOT TO MENTION COSTLY. IT COULD ALSO BE THE CAUSE OF MY INSURANCE BEING RAISED OR DROPPED NEXT YEAR! NO ONE SEEMS TO REALLY CARE ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS CARS ARE BEING MADE NOWADAYS. THANK YOU. *TR
BLEW OUT TIRE ON FREEWAY. *TR
THIS IS AN UPDATE FOR THE COMPLAINT REGARDING THE FAILURE OF THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM ON MY 2005 TOYOTA RAV4. AFTER FINDING A KNOWLEDGEABLE SERVICE MANAGER WHO TOOK THE TIME TO CHECK, HE FOUND THAT THERE IS A TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR IN THE SPARE TIRE. MY SPARE WAS JUST A LITTLE LOW ON AIR AND SINCE CORRECTING IT, THE LIGHT HAS NOT COME ON AGAIN. I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY REFERENCE TO THE SPARE HAVING A SENSOR IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. *TR
THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER DAY. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES CHECKED NUMEROUS TIMES & THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2007. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, I WILL NEVER KNOW IF THERE IS A REAL PROBLEM WITH A TIRE WITH THIS HAPPENING. I DRIVE THE HIGHWAY DAILY & FIND THIS VERY TROUBLESOME. MY 2005 RAV 4 HAS UNDER 25,000 MILES ON IT. I AM ESTIMATING THE NUMBER OF FAILURES TO BE 50, HOWEVER I THINK IT IS MORE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT & TOYOTA SHOULD REQUIRE THESE TO BE RECALLED & FIXED. *TR
THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT FAILS CONSTANTLY AND WITHOUT REASON. I'VE HAD MY TIRES CHECKED, RECHECKED, BALANCED, ROTATED, REBALANCED, ROTATED AGAIN, AND NOTHING WILL STOP THE LIGHT FROM COMING ON. THERE ARE ONLY 20,521 MILES ON MY RAV4. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS. I TOOK MY RAV4 TO MY MECHANIC AGAIN THIS MORNING AND AFTER CHECKING ALL THE TIRES AGAIN, HE FOUND NO PROBLEMS. MY TIRES ARE NEW, LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OLD. WHILE TAKING MY HUSBAND TO THE HOSPITAL TODAY THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. MY MECHANIC SAYS IT'S A DEFECT THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD FIX. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIE ROD ASSEMBLY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED ON A FLATBED TO A LOCAL DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND THE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE OR ASSURE HIM THAT THE FAILURE WOULD NOT RECUR. THE CONTACT FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND COULD NOT ASSIST. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 46,919. UPDATED 01/31/08 *BF
WINDSHIELD CRACKED UNKNOWN CAUSE. ALSO WINDSHIELD CHIPS VERY EASILY. *TR
MY WIFE WAS HIT IN A HEAD ON COLLISION THAT DID OVER $8,000 IN DAMAGE IN THE TOYOTA, 2005 , RAV 4. WITH THIS DAMAGE YOU WOULD THINK ONE AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY, AND THAT DID NOT HAPPEN.WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS WHEN GETTING THE CAR BACK OUT OF THE SHOP.TOYOTA AIRBAG TECHNICIAN SAID THEY DIDN'T ALWAYS DEPLOY DEPENDING ON THE IMPACT, WHAT??,HEAD ON WITH OVER $8.000 IN DAMAGE,WHAT WILL IT TAKE SOMEONE TO BE KILLED. *AK
HAD 2005 TOYOTA RAV 4 FRONT BRAKE ROTORS DISPLAYED STRAIGHT LINES OF TINY PITS ACROSS BRAKING SURFACE , APPEARED TO BE CASTING FLAWS EXTENDED INTO AND BELOW ROTOR SURFACE. HAD PROBLEMS WITH TIRES PREMATURELY WEARING ON INNER SIDES, SCRAPING NOISE. *AK ASKED DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP ABOUT THESE ROTORS AND WAS TOLD THEY SEE A LOT OF THEM LIKE THIS.
WHEN ROADS ARE ICY OR SNOWY, TPMS WARNS THAT TIRE(S) IS LOW DESPITE ALL TIRES HAVING THE PROPER PRESSURE. AFTER CONFIRMING ADEQUATE TIRE PRESSURES, I RESET THE SYSTEM. AFTER ENCOUNTERING SNOWY/ICY ROADS AGAIN, THE TPMS ALERTS AGAIN. THIS FALSE ALARM WOULD LIKELY CONFUSE MOST DRIVERS. *JB
TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAS A 2005 TOYOTA RAV4. A 13 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT PERMISSION, AND BECAME AFRAID WHEN THE POLICE BEGAN CHASIED HIM. THE 13 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN EXCESS OF 100 MPH AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL, AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED ONTO ITS ROOF, THEN SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 600 FEET ON ITS ROOF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND THEY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY. THE CONTACT HAD ACCESS TO THE POLICE REPORT. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A DIRECT HIT, AND THAT IT WAS NOT AT A 17 DEGREE ANGLE. AK
DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *JB
SUN VISOR IS NOT PADDED! WHEN IT IS LEFT IN THE DOWN POSITION YOU BANG YOUR HEAD ON IT WHEN YOU ENTER. PREVIOUS TOYOTA RAV 4 HAD A PADDED VISOR. THIS IS A MINOR PROBLEM THAT COULD BE CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES IN AN ACCIDENT. I DROVE MY PREVIOUS RAV 4 FOR ALMOST 100,000 MILES WITHOUT EVER NOTICING ANY PROBLEMS. MY NEW 2005 RAV 4 IS HAS A DIFFERENT "SOLID FEELING" VISOR WHICH YOU NOTICE RIGHT AWAY WHEN YOU BANG INTO IT. THOUGHT VISORS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE PADDED FOR SAFETY REASONS. *NM
FUEL HOSE BROKEN WITHOUT ANY REASON I HAVE KNOWN OF. I DROVE MY CAR IN CASUAL MANNER (SHORT DISTANCE FROM WORK TO HOME) WITH 7900 MILES ON IT AND DIDN'T RECALL HITTING ANYTHING HARD UNDERNEATH MY CAR. PARKED MY CAR LAST FRIDAY. ON SUNDAY, MY 05 RAV4 COULDN'T START AND SMELLED GASOLINE. LOOKED DOWN THE VEHICLE AND FOUND OUT FUEL HOSE WAS BROKEN AND LEAKING GASOLINE. CALLED FIREFIGHTERS TO STOP THE FUEL HOSE LEAKAGE. TOWED MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED THE WHOLE FUEL LINE. CONSEQUENCES COULD BE FATAL IF FIRE OBJECT CLOSE BY. THERE MAY BE A POTENTIAL FAULT ON THE DESIGN OF THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE FUEL HOSE SHOULDN'T BE BROKEN EASIER AND CAUSED THE LEAK OF GASOLINE. *JB
I PURCHASED A 2005 RAV4 2 WHEEL DRIVE, 5 SPEED, IN DECEMBER 2005. THE EXACT DATE, I AM NOT SURE OF IN THAT THE ISSUE IS ONGOING. I FIRST NOTICED THE OE (TOYO TRANPATH A14 215/70R16 99S M-S) TIRES BY TOYO WERE LOOSING TRACTION WHEN GOING AROUND CORNERS, I ATTRIBUTED THAT TO THE NEW AUTO AND WAS MORE CAREFUL UNTIL I GOT USED TO IT. I WAS COMING HOME ONE DAY AND PROCEEDED ONTO A FREEWAY ONRAMP. THE ROADS WERE WET BUT NOT EXCESSIVE. I MADE THE TURN ONTO THE RAMP SHIFTED AND THE ACCELERATED, I FOUND AT THAT TIME THE TIRES WERE LOOSING TRACTION, SO I BACKED OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I AM ALSO FINDING ON RIBBED FREEWAYS THAT THE CAR WILL NOT TRACK. I RECENTLY WNET TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS HAPPENING. FROM HERE IT IS AN ONGOING PROCESS OF DEALER TELLING ME TALK TO TOYOTA AND TOYOTA SAYING TALK TO TOYO. DURING MY NUMEROUS CONVERSATIONS WITH TOYO, I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WERE GRADED 300 BB. I ASKED IF THIS WAS PROBLEM, "I DON'T KNOW" MY LAST CONVERSATION WITH TOYO I ASKED IF THE TIRE IS BB WHY DOES MY TIRE SAY AA. THYE NEEDED TO RESEARCH AND NOT TO MY AMAZEMENT THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TIRE WAS AN AA AND THEY JUST FOUND OUT. THEY FURTHER STATED THE TIRE USED TO BE BB BUT IN 2001 WAS UPGRADED TO AA. "MISCOMMUNICATION FROM TOYO JAPAN TO THEM. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE INJURED ETC.
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THAT THERE IS A UNDERCOATING ON THE ENGINE TO KEEP THE ENGINE FROM RUSTING. THE SMELL OF THE CHEMICAL IS TOXIC AND COMING INTO THE VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVER TO GET SICK, AND CAN EVEN POSSIBLY TO PUT THEM TO SLEEP. THE EFFECT OF THIS IS EVEN HOURS AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS, INCLUDING SYMPTOMS OF LIGHT HEADED, DIZZINESS, NAUSEA, AND HEADACHES. THE LONGEST TRIP IN THE VEHICLE IS 20-30 MINUTES AT A TIME. DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD TRY TO REMOVE THE SMELL. THEY WOULD NOT LET THEM TRADE THE VEHICLE IN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH OUT THAT COATING ON THE ENGINE. THE NAME OF THE CHEMICAL IS COSOMOLENE (RUST PROTECTIVE SEALANT).*AK

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, DUE TO IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE AIR BAG INFLATOR, WHICH IS USED IN THE SIDE AIR BAG, THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAG, AND THE KNEE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, SOME INFLATORS WERE PRODUCED WITH AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF THE HEATING AGENTS NECESSARY FOR PROPER AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. IN THIS CONDITION, THE EXPANSION FORCE OF THE GAS MAY BE INSUFFICIENT TO PROPERLY INFLATE THE AIR BAG WHEN THE SRS SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED DURING A CRASH.
