THE REAR FRAME CROSSMEMBER RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IT SUPPORTS ALMOST FELL OUT. I NOTICED IT WAS HANGING ABOUT 6' LOW SO I CAUGHT IT BEFORE IT FELL. THE ENTIRE PART IS HORRIBLY CORRODED. NOTE THAT THE WOOD WAS TEMPORARILY INSTALLED TO HOLD THE STEEL UP TO DRIVE HOME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER EQUIPPED WITH COOPER TIRES, TIRE LINE: TRENDSETTER A/W, TIRE SIZE: 27X10R16, DOT NUMBER: R7HCC2T0117. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SET OF TIRES WERE CRACKING AROUND THE RIM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 190,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE GETTING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED REPAIRING THE VEHICLE WOULD COST MORE THAN VEHICLE'S WORTH.
MAIN ENGINE SEAL KEEPS LEAKING EVEN AFTER REPLACING 3 TIMES. WHEN PARKED OIL LEAKS OUT ON GROUND. VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO KEEP REPLACING.
THE FRAME OF MY RANGER HAS RUSTED BADLY , CAUSING THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES TO NO LONGER BE ATTACHED TO THE FRAME.ALSO THE BED OF THE TRUCK HAS RUSTED AWAY BADLY. I I SPOKE TO A GUY WHO SPECIALIZES IN FRAME / AXLE REPAIR . AFTER INSPECTING IT , HE TOLD ME THAT THE ONLY OPTION TO REPAIR MY TRUCK WAS TO REPLACE THE FRAME , BECAUSE THE FRAME IS RUSTED TOO BADLY TO BE ABLE TO BE WELDED , HE SAID THE ONLY OTHER OPTION WAS TO JUNK IT . THE TRUCK HAS 102,000 MILES ON IT AND IS OTHERWISE IN GOOD CONDITION . I HAD PLANNED TO OWN IT FOR YEARS TO COME . NOW I AM AFRAID TO TRUST IT . AND I WOULD NOT FEEL RIGHT ABOUT SELLING IT TO SOMEONE ELSE . I USE THIS TRUCK TO HAUL HAY TO FEED MY LIVESTOCK , BUT NOW I AM AFRAID TO LOAD IT UP AND DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD WITH IT .I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED AND THE SERVICE CENTER NOTED ON THE PAPERWORK THAT THE FRAME WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO HAVE THE SPRING MOUNTINGS FIXED ..,
LEFT SIDE REAR FRAME...WHERE THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE ATTACHES TO THE THE FRAME RUSTED AWAY. THE FRAME RUSTED AWAY, NO WHERE ELSE IS THERE RUST THROUGH...THE LEAF SPRING ENDED UP BEING SUPPORTED BY THE BED OF TRUCK. SPRING IS ATTACHED TO THE REAR AXLE. AXLE CAN BECOME FREE WHEELING AT ANY TIME. THE RIGHT SIDE REAR SHACKLE ATTACHMENT LOOKS AS IF THE FRAME IS GOING TO FAIL ANY MOMENT ...I CAN NOT BELIEVE THE FRAME RUSTS AWAY WHILE THE REST OF THE BODY IS OK.....A TEMPORARY REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE WITH A 4 X 4 BOLTED TO THE FRAME AND SPRING.
THE FRAME AND BED IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. SO MUCH SO THAT THE ONE OF THE LEAF SPRINGS BROKE LOOSE AND CAME THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE BED WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD. THE TRUCK IS NOW COMPLETELY NOT DRIVABLE. I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR TRUCK. EVEN FROM PEOPLE WHERE THEIR CITIES DON'T SALT THE ROADS IN THE WINTER.
WHILE DRIVING THE SPARE TIRE RACK FELL FROM THE TRUCK. SINCE THE EVAP CANISTER FROM THE GAS TANK IS ATTACHED TO THE SPARE TIRE RACK IT TO WAS DAMAGED WITH THE CANISTER BEING BROKEN OPEN WHILE THE RACK SCRAPPED ON THE ROAD. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE FRAME IT WAS FOUND THAT THE GAS TANK SUPPORT BRACKETS HAD FALLEN COMPLETELY OFF LEAVING ONLY A THIN STRAP SUPPORTING THE GAS TANK. THE FRAME ALSO SHOWED EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER WHICH SUPPORTS THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS. BRAKE LINE SUPPORT TABS ON THE FRAME WERE ALSO FOUND TO HAVE COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME AT THE WELD. THESE ARE VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS AND FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY AND THE TRUCKS SHOULD BE RECALLED. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER.
THE BODY ON MY FX4 FORD RANGER IS IN REALLY GREAT CONDITION, THE FRAME IS RUSTING AWAY. MOSTLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE BED. IS THERE ANY RECALL ON THIS. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. SINCERELY [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
THE FRAME ON THIS 2006 FORD RANGER IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE.
AS I WAS DRIVING HEADED TO MY DOCTORS APPOINTMENT DOWN THE FREEWAY AND AS I EXITED THE OFF RAMP MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITH TRAFFIC BE HIDE ME AND I COASTED OFF TO THE SIDE. I LEARNED THAT IT WAS MY INERTIA SWITCH THAT CAUSE MY VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. THE VIBRATION OF THE ROAD REFLECTOR AND SMALL POTHOLES WHICH CAUSE INERTIA SWITCH TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. MY TRUCK HAS STALLED OUT AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY AND ON SMALL STREETS. I KEPT TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALER TO SEE WHY MY TRUCK NEVER STARTS AND WOULD ALWAYS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. FINALLY ONE MACHINIC AT THE FORD DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE INERTIA HAD BEEN ENGAGED AND THAT WAS THE REASON WHY MY VEHICLE LOST POWER AND WOULDN'T START.
THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK JUST KEEPS FLAKING OFF! I AM IN FEAR OF A FRAME COLLAPSE. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK NEW. THE FRAME SHOULD NOT BE DETERIORATING THIS WAY
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED GOT A FUEL CAP LOOSE WARNING LIGHT ON DASH BOARD. PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CHECKED AND IT WAS TIGHT. TOOK THE 2006 FORD RANGER TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CROSS FRAME THAT SUPPORTS THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE BED HAS RUSTED FREE AT BOTH ENDS! IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE CABLE THAT LIFTS THE TIRE INTO PLACED WAS STILL ATTACHED. HAD THE TIRE COME LOOSE IT WOULD MOST LIKELY CAUSED THE REAR END TO LIFT UP AND AT 60 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THAT WOULD BE SPECTACULAR! THE REASON FOR THE WARNINGLIGHT WAS THA AS THE FRAME BROKE LOOSE IT CRCKED THE CONNECTION TO THE EMISSIONS CANISTER THAT IS MOUNTED ON THE CORSS FRAMEMEMBER.
THIS VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND IS NO LONGER IN MY POSSESSION. I DO NOT OWN THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. PLEASE UPDATE MY RECORDS AND REMOVE ME FROM THESE MAILING LISTS.
REAR FRAME CROSSMEMBER IS COMPLETELY ROTTED, SPARE TIRE FALLS OUT CAUSING ME TO KEEP IT IN THE BACK OF MY BED, REAR SPRING SHACKLES SEVERELY CORRODED CAUSING ME TO REPLACE THEM TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. REST OF TRUCK IN PRISTINE CONDITION.

2006 FORD RANGER. THE WHOLE FRAME IS RUSTING BAD ENOUGH IT HAS TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAS BEEN A FEW PLACES PATCHED AND THE CROSS MEMBER NEWS TO BE REPLACED AS WELL
"TAKATA RECALL" FORD MOTOR COMPANY SENT ME A RECALL NOTICE EARLY IN 2018, TELLING ME THAT MY RANGER WAS UNDRIVEABLE DUE TO HIGH RISK TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATORS. THE NOTICE TOLD ME TO CONTACT MY DEALER, SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR RECALL 18S02 AND THAT THEY WOULD ARRANGE TO HAVE IT PICKED UP OR TOWED. I WAS NOT TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER. THE NOTICE SAID I WOULD BE PROVIDED A LOANER IF NEEDED. I CALLED THE NEAREST FORD DEALER (GREAT LAKES FORD IN MUSKEGON, MI). I WAS TOLD BY THEIR EMPLOYEE TO CONTACT EAGLE TOWING AND HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH I DID. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP (AFTER THEY WERE CLOSED) AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER DEMANDED I PAY HIM AND GET REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE DEALERSHIP. SINCE THE DEALERSHIP HAD TOLD ME TO USE THIS TOW COMPANY AND THE RECALL NOTICE SAID FORD WOULD PAY FOR IT, I THOUGHT GETTING REIMBURSED WOULD BE EASY. WRONG. AFTER ALMOST A YEAR AND MANY PHONE CALLS, EMAILS AND 1 LETTER TO THE DEALERSHIP I HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING. TODAY THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO PAY ME HALF OF THE COST I INCURRED TO HAVE THE RANGER TOWED. I REFUSED THEIR OFFER. I BELIEVE IT IS CLEARLY IMMORAL FOR FORD TO TELL ME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED FOR A REQUIRED RECALL AND THEN REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME WHEN I DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY TOLD ME TO DO, BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO ME IS ILLEGAL. I AM WRITING TO THE NHTSA TO SEE IF THERE ARE APPLICABLE RULES/LAWS REQUIRING THE MANUFACTURER TO HONOR THEIR PROMISE TO MAKE REPAIRS REQUIRED BY THE NHTSA TO MY VEHICLE AT NO COST TO ME THE OWNER. THANK YOU, I APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE IN HELPING ME UNDERSTAND THIS PROCESS WHICH DOES NOT (TO ME) SEEM TO BE WORKING THE WAY IT SHOULD. IF IT IS PERTINENT, THE TOWING COST $185.40 BECAUSE IT IS A SPARSELY POPULATED FARMING COMMUNITY AND THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WAS OVER 20 MILES AWAY. I DID NOT NEED AND DID NOT REQUEST A LOANER VEHICLE. *TR

YANKEE PEST CONTROL 20 WAITE CT, MALDEN, MA 02148 NO LONGER OWNS THE VEHICLE. SAFTY RECALL FOR AIR BAGS NEEDS TO GO TO NEW OWNER. I FILLED OUT FORMS & SENT IN, BUT KEEP GETTING THE VERY URGENT NOTICESSSSSSSSSS. (NOTE: IF THERE WAS AN EMAIL OR PHONE # ON THE RECALL NOTICE, I WOULD HAVE USED THAT. SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT ENGINE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FLASHING. I TOOK OFF AND IT WAS NOT RUNNING WELL AND COULDN'T GET SPEED GOING UNTIL AROUND A 1/4 MILE DOWN THE ROAD. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES ALWAYS AT IDLE SPEEDS, ONCE I GET IT MOVING AND GO UP TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO GO AWAY BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. I HAVE HAD THE CODE READ AND THE LIKELY SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY. THE CODE WAS P0316 WHICH INDICATES TOO MANY MISFIRES AFTER STARTUP AND CODE P0304 WHICH IS CYLINDER NUMBER 4 MISFIRE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I HAD DRIVERS BEHIND ME HONKING AND FLASHING LIGHTS BUT THE TRUCK JUST WOULDN'T GO OVER ABOUT 5 MPH UNTIL I WAS DOWN THE ROAD A BIT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN APRIL OF 2018 AND IT HAS INTERMITTENTLY DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN WITH THE LATEST TIME BEING YESTERDAY 11/5/18. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE HEADS ON THIS FORD RANGER. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE AND SEEMED TO HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANYWHERE WITH IT.
INERTIAL FUEL PUMP SHUT OFF SWITCH KEPT SHUTTING DOWN VEHICLE... IT HAPPENED TWICE IN TRAFFIC THAT I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO COAST OUT OF HARMS WAY. LAST TIME IT OCCURRED WAS PARKED AND WOULDN'T RESET, SO I ELIMINATED IT AND WIRED DIRECT WITHOUT THE SWITCH. NO PROBLEM SINCE. NO OTHER VEHICLE HAS SWITCH LIKE THIS THAT I'M AWARE OF. I ELIMINATED IT!!!

FORD 4.0 SOHC V6 TIMING CHAIN HYDRAULIC TENSIONER, TIMING CHAIN CASSETTE AND TIMING CHAIN FAILURE PROVIDING NO START SITUATION. FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. IT IS WIDESPREAD ACROSS MODELS WITH THIS ENGINE, RANGERS, EXPLORERS AND MUSTANGS. STARTING WITH MODEL YEAR 2001 WHEN THEY BEGAN USING THE 4.0 SOHC UNTIL END OF PRODUCTION OF THIS ENGINE, 2011 THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR LOW MILEAGE FAILURES. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THEN 70,000 MILES. TIMING CHAIN SHOULDN'T FAIL AND DEALERSHIP SHOULD PAY FOR REPAIR. I WAS PARKED, WENT TO START IT AND IT BACKFIRED AND WOULDN'T START AND HASN'T SINCE. DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED IT WAS TIMING CHAIN. AGAIN, THE 4.0 HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM START OF PRODUCTION ACROSS MANY MODELS AND YEARS. FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE SINCE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM.

I HAVE CALLED SUNRISE FORD DEALERSHIP IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MORE THAN A DOZEN TIMES TO PICK UP MY TRUCK, AND PROVIDE A RENTAL VEHICLE TO NO AVAIL. TAKATA RECALL I CONTACTED TWICE THE FREMONT FORD DEALERSHIP IN FREMONT CALIFORNIA CONCERNING THIS RECALL. THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK. THEY DID NOT. THE SECOND TIME THEY SAID THEY HAD TO ORDER THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT PART. ITS BEEN WEEKS. THIS IS THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2006. I HAVE BEEN PATIENT, HOWEVER WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS RESOLVED ASAP. THIS IS THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP TO MY PLACE OF RESIDENCE.
I'VE RECEIVED NUMEROUS LETTERS CLAIMING THAT MY RANGER IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. AS INSTRUCTED, I CALLED RICHMOND FORD LINCOLN TO SCHEDULE A TOW AND REPLACEMENT OF THE AIRBAG. ON FIRST ATTEMPT, I WAS GIVEN A WINDOW OF TIME THAT A TOW TRUCK DRIVER WOULD ARRIVE TO TOW THE TRUCK AND TOLD I DIDN'T NEED TO BE PRESENT WITH THE KEY IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE TOW. IT NEVER ARRIVED AND I NEVER RECEIVED ANY WORD FROM THE DEALERSHIP. A WEEK LATER I CALLED AGAIN WAS ROUTED TO A FEW INDIVIDUALS WITH THE THIRD TELLING ME THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULDN'T ARRIVE UNTIL AUGUST - THREE MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF THE CALL. I'VE CONTINUED TO RECEIVE MAIL DESCRIBING IN GREAT DETAIL HOW DEADLY THIS SITUATION IS AND DON'T BELIEVE I HAVE ANY RECOURSE AT THIS POINT. ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO HELP REMEDY THE SITUATION AND PROTECT THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY PASSENGERS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

TAKATA RECALLMESSAGE: I DRIVE A 2006 FORD RANGER. I WOULD GUESS YOU KNOW ABOUT THE AIR BAG INFLATOR RECALL AND THE DEATHS INVOLVED WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. WELL, I HAD BOTH THE INFLATORS REPLACED IN 2016. SO NOW I GOT ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE THAT I HAVE TO HAVE BOTH THOSE INFLATORS REPLACED AGAIN. SO EVEN AFTER I HAD THOSE INFLATORS REPLACED TWO YEARS AGO, I NEED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AGAIN. DID THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE INFLATORS WITH TWO MORE DEFECTIVE INFLATORS? HAVE I BEEN DRIVING AROUND, STILL, WITH INFLATORS THAT COULD KILL ME? NOBODY SEEMS TO HAVE AN ANSWER. ALSO, WHY WAS THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY ALLOWED TO REPLACE BAD INFLATORS WITH BAD INFLATORS? THE NEW RECALL FROM FORD TELLS ME THAT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, YET, THEY HAVE NO PARTS.(I SAW MY DEALER YESTERDAY) SO NOW I AM STILL DRIVING AROUND IN A VEHICLE THAT COULD POSSIBLY KILL ME WITH A DEVICE THAT WAS MEANT TO SAVE ME. I DON'T HAVE THE CHOICE OF JUST PARKING MY TRUCK UNTIL FORD FEELS LIKE GETTING THE PARTS. AND LASTLY, SINCE FORD PUT BAD INFLATORS IN MY RANGER TWO YEARS AGO, HOW DO I KNOW THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN ONCE T MY DEALER GETS THE PARTS? PLEASE, ANY HELP ON YOUR PART WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

TAKATA RECALL, WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS RECALL DONE FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. THEY KEEP TELLING US THAT THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. I HAVE RECEIVED NOTICES THAT SAY DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE. WE ARE A BUSINESS THAT DEPENDS ON THIS VEHICLE TO GET OUR JOB ACCOMPLISHED. WE CANNOT PARK THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT SOME SORT OF RENTAL PROVIDED BY THE DEALER. THEY HAVE TOLD US ON THIS LATEST ONE THAT IT WILL BE SOMETIME IN MARCH. THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT WE ARE TOLD TO PARK OUR VEHICLE BUT IF WE HAD DONE SO EVEN FROM THIS LATEST RECALL NOTICE WE WOULD BE WITHOUT THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER A MONTH TO THIS POINT WITH NO GUARANTEE OF WHEN IT WOULD BE FIXED. THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY OF INFORMING CONSUMERS THAN TO SAY DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT BY THE WAY WE WILL NOT KNOW HOW LONG YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT. THANKS

TAKATA RECALL I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES OVER THE COURSE OF APPROSIMATELY 2 YEARS. THE LATEST WAS RECEIVED EARLY FEB 2018. IT STATES THAT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE TO FIX THE RECALL PROBLEM, YET DEALERSHIPS HAVE NO PARTS AND DONT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET MORE. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT HELPFUL AND I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. IN THE PAST, WHEN I HAVE ASKED TO BE PUT ON A LIST, I NEVER GET A CALL BACK. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE FORD DEALERSHIPS ARE BEING ATTENTIVE AND THE FORD CUSTOMER SERIVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. IVE CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AUTOMATED LINE AND IT DOESNT EVEN RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN RECALL NUMBER 17S42....AND THEN IT HANGS UP ON ME. I JUST WANT MY VEHICLE FIXED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS...MAYBE LONGER.

LIGHT FOR AIRBAG ON
TAKATA RECALL: I HAVE NOT YET RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION FROM FORD. I HAVE LEFT MESSAGES @ FORD.COM.
I WAS WATCHING THE NEWS ON TV AND THERE WAS A SEGMENT THAT WARNED "NOT TO DRIVE YOUR 2006 FORD RANGER" DUE TO A FAULTY AIR BAGS. I TRIED TO CONTACT MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. IS THIS A BOGUS RECALL?
TAKATA RECALL: I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL EARLY IN 2016. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WAS REPLACED ON 4/22/2016. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN THEY CAME AVAILABLE. I HAVE FOLLOWED UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP ON A REGULAR BASIS, ALWAYS BEING TOLD NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW JANUARY OF 2018 AND THE LOCAL NEWS MEDIA IS REPORTING THAT PEOPLE ARE BEING ADVISED TO NOT DRIVE THERE VEHICLES DUE TO THE DANGER OF THE AIR BAG. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATES THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE RECALL. I NEED MY VEHICLE FOR WORK AND FEEL THIS WHOLE MATTER HAS TAKEN ENTIRELY TOO MUCH TIME.
TAKATA RECALL ON 01/11/2018 I WENT TO THE SAFECAR.GOV WEBSITE TO VERIFY THE TAKATA RECALL ON MY 2006 FORD RANGER. AFTER I VERIFIED IT, I CONTACTED THE WEST-HERR FORD DEALERSHIP IN HAMBURG, NY, TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. I WAS TOLD BY THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE PARTS REQUIRED TO FIX THE RECALL ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AT LEAST 02/28/2018. A RENTAL VEHICLE WAS NOT OFFERED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE CONSIDERING THE LOCAL NEWS IS URGING OWNERS OF THE VEHICLES NOT TO DRIVE THEM UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. I EVEN CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-392-3673 AND WAS GIVEN THE SAME RUN AROUND EXCUSE. NO RENTAL VEHICLE OFFERED. I ALSO CONTACTED DAVE SMITH FORD IN WILLIAMSVILLE, NY, AND WAS TOLD YET AGAIN THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. I WASN'T OFFERED A RENTAL NOR WAS I EVEN GIVEN A POSSIBLE DATE AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO ME! FORD HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO GET THESE PARTS OUT TO DEALERSHIPS. OWNERS ARE BEING TOLD NOT TO DRIVE THEIR VEHICLES AND TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP COME AND TOW THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IN THE MEANTIME WE ARE EXPECTED TO IGNORE THE FACT THAT THE NEXT TIME WE DRIVE OUR TRUCKS IT COULD POTENTIALLY KILL US BECAUSE THE PARTS AREN'T AVAILABLE. COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY UNACCEPTABLE!

THE ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTED, THE RUST ON THE FRAME AROUND THE REAR SPRING SHACKLE RUSTED ENOUGH THAT THE SHACKLE IS BROKEN FREE. THIS WAS NOTICED DUE TO THE NOISES THE SHACKLE MAKES WHEN MOVING. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 108,000 MILES. IN ADDITION THE SIDE STEPS RUSTED THROUGH AND WERE HANGING DOWN, I HAD TO REMOVE THEM TO PREVENT THEM FROM FALLING OFF.
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO I RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR A RECALL ON MY RANGERS AIRBAGS AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND HAD IT REPLACED BY MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. A MONTH AGO WHILE THE RANGER BEING PARKED AT A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT I OBSERVED ANOTHER PARKED CAR REVERSING BACK INTO THE FRONT END OF THE RANGER CAUSING NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE RANGER, ONLY TO HAVE BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS TO INFLATE PREMATURELY. THIS MERE IMPACT SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO INFLATE IN THE MANNER THAT IT DID.

TAKATA RECALL I WILL LET YOU DRIVE MY RANGER ANYTIME. BEEN OVER 2 YEARS STILL NO AIR BAGS FROM FORDS.
I HAVE TRIED FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS TO GET MY AIRBAGS REPLACED AFTER RECEIVING THE NOTICE AT LITHIA FORD IN BOISE IDAHO AT 8853 WEST FAIRVIEW AVE BOISE, ID 83704. FINALLY I HAD AN APPOINTMENT TODAY BUT WHEN I WENT IN THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY APPOINTMENT BUT ALSO SAID THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT YET FOR MY AIRBAGS THOUGH IT STATES CLEARLY ON THE RECALL NOTICE IN FEB 2016 - NOTICE NUMBER 15S22/NHTSA RECALL 15V-322 THAT THERE WAS A REPLACEMENT OVER A YEAR AGO? I WAS INFORMED BY [XXX] , SERVICE ADVISOR AT 0945AM ON NOV 9, 2017 THAT I NEED TO CONTACT FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO GET AN ANSWER AS TO WHEN THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE. I HAVE CALLED THAT NUMBER THREE TIMES, AND ALL THREE TIMES AFTER GOING THROUGH THE MENU AND GETTING PUT ON HOLD FOR A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE FROM FORD THE CALL JUST RETURNED TOT HE BEGINNING OF THE PROCESS. I JUST WANT MY AIRBAGS REPLACED IF THEY ARE GOING TO KILL ME OR SOMEONE WITH ME BUT APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE? I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PROCESS. THANK YOU, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

TAKATA RECALL, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALMOST A YEAR FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG. I RECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE ON FEBRUARY 2016. MY PASSENGER SIDE BAG WAS REPLACED IN 2015. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS TRUCK.
DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR REPLACEMENT.. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 16V036 RECALL DATE: JANUARY 22, 2016 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: 16S03 FORD HAS YET TO CONTACT ME TO LET ME KNOW IF THE PART IS AVAILABLE, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE RECALL SAYS THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG INFLATOR COULD RUPTURE IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE THE SUPPLEMENTAL FRONTAL AIRBAGS ARE DESIGNED TO DEPLOY. IF THIS OCCURS, IT MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS. IF IT IS THIS SERIOUS, THAN WHY AM I STILL DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, I SHOULD BE IN A RENTAL UNTIL THIS RECALL IS ACCOMPLISHED. THERE ARE ALREADY DEATHS INVOLVED , THIS IS WHY THERE IS A RECALL. I WAS IN A MINOR ACCIDENT ON NOVEMBER 23, 2016, I AM BLESSED THAT MY AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY, NOW I'M MORE WORRIED THAN EVER. *TR

TAKATA RECALL - MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH RECALLED TAKATA AIRBAGS ON BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SID/ I HAVE TAKEN THE RECALL NOTICES TO THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE PARTS ARE ON ORDER AAEVERAL MONTHS AGO. PAST THAT, THE DEALER HAS NO INFORMATION AND IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY. FORD'S WEBSITE HAS A LOT A FLUFF, BUT NO ANSWERS. I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS: FIRST, ARE BOTH OF THESE PERMANENT REPLACEMENTS? IF THEY AREN'T, THEN WHAT IS THE POINT? SECOND, CAN THE TAKATA AIRBAGS BE REMOVED AND/OR REPLACED IN THIS VEHICLE BY MEANS OTHER THAN THIS INSANE RECALL?
REAR LEAF-SPRING SHACKLES AND HANGERS ON MY 2006 FORD RANGER ARE RUSTED OUT, ONE OF THE SHACKLES BROKE FREE FROM THE FRAME WHILE I WAS DRIVING, MADE IT HARDER TO STEER BECAUSE THE TRUCK FELT NOWHERE NEAR AS STABLE AS IT WAS BEFORE IT BROKE, IT CAUSED ME TO SWERVE INTO THE LANE BESIDE ME WHICH VERY WELL COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE THERE. THE REST OF MY FRAME SEEMS TO HAVE EXCESSIVE RUST WHICH IS NOT TO BE EXPECTED FROM A 10 YEAR OLD TRUCK, ESPECIALLY BY THE SHACKLES AND HANGERS FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS, AND ALSO ALL AROUND THE SPARE TIRE MOUNT WHICH I COULD SEE TO BECOME A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN WHILE DRIVING. I MEAN WHO WANTS A SPARE TIRE IN THEIR WINDSHIELD WHILE FOLLOWING SOMEONE DOWN THE ROAD? MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IM VERY CERTAIN THAT CHEAP FRAME METAL WAS THE CAUSE OF IT BREAKING, BECAUSE IM GENERALLY PRETTY EASY ON MY TRUCK. *TR

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD FOR MY 2006 FORD RANGER BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAG PROBLEM. SAM GALLOWAY FORD IN FT. MYERS FL GAVE ME AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE DRIVERS SIDE REPLACED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE TEMPORARILY FIXED SO THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE SAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN I WENT TO THE APPOINTMENT, THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS SO THE WORK WAS NOT DONE. I ASKED THEM TO DEACTIVATE THE AIR BAGS SO I WOULDN'T GET KILLED BY THE AIR BAG IF IT DEPLOYED AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS ILLEGAL TO DEACTIVATE THEM. I GUESS IT IS BETTER TO GET SHOT BY THE AIR BAGS THAN TO DEACTIVATE THEM. WHAT KIND OF DEAL IS THIS? NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE IN SO I GUESS I SHOULDN'T USE MY CAR. I JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS.

WHY IS HONDA MOTOR COMPANY PUTTING IT'S CUSTOMERS IN A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WHILE FORD MOTOR COMPANY IS NOT? MY DAUGHTER'S HONDA FIT WAS RECALLED BECAUSE OF AIR BAGS AND SHE IS IN A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WHILE THE AIR BAG IS REPLACED. FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO DO THE SAME THING. I OWN AND DRIVE A 2006 FORD RANGER PICK UP
TAKATA RECALL. DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG. DEALERS CLAIM NO AVAILABILITY OF PARTS, ONE SAYS IT IS NOT EVEN DESIGNED. FORD SAYS THEY ARE MAKING PARTS AS FAST AS THEY CAN, WILL GIVE NO ESTIMATE OF WHEN THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE. I HAVE CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER, WHICH I GAVE TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. NOW I MUST DRIVE A VEHICLE WHICH COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO LIFE.

THE ENTIRE REAR CROSS MEMBER THAT CONNECTS THE FORE AND AFT RUNNING FRAME MEMBERS ROTTED OUT AND DROPPED OFF THE TRUCK. THIS INCLUDES THE SPARE TIRE ENCLOSURE, THE CHAIN WINCH AND SPARE TIRE -- BROKE AWAY FROM THE TRUCK AS IT WENT OVER A BUMP. WITH IT WENT THE FUEL EMISSION CONTROL TUBING THAT NOW REGISTERS AS A FAULT ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS WAS A SERIOUS FAULT AND FORTUNATELY IT OCCURRED ON A RURAL ROAD INSTEAD OF A BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO ANY FOLLOWING VEHICLE. ALARMINGLY, WHEN SPEAKING TO MY MECHANIC, HE SAYS THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON. IN FACT, HE HAS REPAIRED MANY FRAMES ON RANGERS -- SPARE TIRES FALLING OFF, BUMPERS FALLING OFF AND SO ON.. INDEED, THERE IS A BUSINESS WHO SPECIALIZES IN REPAIR FRAME PARTS TO REPAIR ROTTEN RANGER FRAMES. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. THE ENTIRETY OF THE REMAINDER OF THE TRUCK SHOWS LITTLE OR NO RUST BUT AFT OF THE REAR WHEELS IS TURNING TO SWISS CHEESE. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN TOWING A TRAILER WHEN A BUMPER FALLS OFF?. APPARENTLY, FORD HAS KNOWN OF THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS AND HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE ENCLOSED PHOTO SHOWS WHERE THE CROSS MEMBER AND TIRE ENCLOSURE USED TO BE, THE TORN MEMBER AND THE CORRUGATED FLEX TUBING FOR THE EMISSION CONTROL WITH A PIECE OF THE FORMER SPARE TIRE CARRIER ATTACHED.

FUEL INERTIAL CUT-OFF SWITCH ACTIVATES RANDOMLY, USUALLY ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR. RESULT IS SUDDEN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN OR ON THE FREEWAY. DOES NOT MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING FAST OR SLOW. THE DEVICE CAN BE RESET BY PUSHING A BUTTON BUT THE DEVICE IS NOT ACCESSIBLE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WHILE DRIVING. DANGEROUS AS THE LOSS OF POWER IS TOTAL, IMMEDIATE, AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THIS ITEM BUT I SEE FROM YOUR WEBSITE AND OTHER WEBSITES THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE.

TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A LETTER IN JULY 2015 TELLING ME ABOUT THE SAFETY RECALL AND TODAY DECEMBER 01 2015 THEY STILL HAVE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE. WHY ARE THEY NOT BEING FORCED TO TAKE CARE OF THIS?
THE INERTIA FUEL CUT-OFF SWITCH RANDOMLY TRIPS CAUSING THE TRUCK TO STOP DUE TO THE FUEL PUMP CUTTING OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, TWICE ON AN INTERSTATE WHERE LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS MOVING SLOW DUE TO AN ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WHILE TRAVELING IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE AND SHE WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED BY A TRACTOR AND TRAILER. SO NOW SHE REFUSES TO DRIVE IT ANY MORE. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT UNKNOWN TO FORD. I LOOKED INTO REPLACING THE SWITCH AND THE ORIGINAL SWITCH ISN'T AVAILABLE. THE REPLACEMENT IS A NEWER VERSION AND COMES WITH A "JUMPER WIRE" AND A NEW KICK PANEL COVER, WHICH IS APPARENTLY FOR RELOCATING THE SWITCH. AGAIN THIS HASN'T CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT IF THE REPLACEMENT IS DIFFERENT AND COMES WITH A RELOCATING KIT. EVERY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED THE TRUCK IS IN MOTION, I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO WHERE THE SWITCH IS LOCATED (ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE FOOT AREA INTERIOR FIRE WALL) BUT I TRIED TO MAKE IT TRIP BY KICKING MY FEET AROUND AND IT WOULDN'T TRIP THE SWITCH. THE TIMING SEEMS TO BE RANDOM, ALTHOUGH EVERY TIME IT HAS TRIPPED IT FELT HOT TO THE TOUCH.

AT LEST THE RADIO WOKS GREAT . I CAN SEE WHY THEY STOPPED MAKING THIS TRUCK

TRAVELING ON STATE ROUT 56 ENTERED THE OFF RAMP TO CONTINUE ON STATE RT.366, AFTER STOPPING AND ACCELERATING TO 50 MILES AN HOUR THE TRUCK JUST STALLED. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO BERM OF ROAD AND WAITED TO BE TOWED, WOULD NOT START.
AWFUL BANGING SOUND WHILE DRIVING, INSPECTED TRUCK, FOUND REAR BUMPER HANGING HALF OFF. REAR PORTION OF BOTH FRAME RAILS HAD ROTTEN OFF. REAR SPRING SHACKLES ROTTEN AND NOT ATTACHED. I PULLED THE BUMPER OFF WITH MY BARE HANDS! IF IT HAD FALLEN OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. THIS IS NOT AN OLD BEAT UP TRUCK, AS A MATTER OF FACT IT ONLY HAS 17,000 MILE ON IT. IT STILL LOOKS BRAND NEW. THE FORD RANGER XLT 4X4 EXTENDED CAB WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2006 FOR $20,000, NOW ITS USELESS, CAN NOT EVEN FIX THE SPRING SHACKLES, NOTHING TO ATTACH THEM TO. *TR
FRAME IS RUSTED OUT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. SPARE TIRE HOLDER RUSTED OUT. TIRE WOULD HAVE FALLEN OUT. CROSS MEMBER RUSTED OUT. WE HAVE A METALWORKING SHOP AND WILL WELD AND REPAIR OURSELVES AT GREAT TIME AND EXPENSE. POINT OF RUSTOUT IS NEAR WHERE THE FRONT BRACKET IS TO HOLD THE SPRING. GIVE E-MAIL AND I CAN SEND PICTURES. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND THE BRACKET AND CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE BRACKET UP BROKE DUE TO THE FRAME BEING ALL RUSTED/SCALELY AND ROTTED OUT WHICH ALSO LED TO THE SHACKLES BEING BROKEN. WHEN THIS BRACKET BROKE, MY SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING DOWN AND DRAGGING ON THE GROUND WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AFTER THE TIRE WAS TAKEN DOWN, THIS IS WHEN THE DEPLORABLE CONDITION OF THE FRAME WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE. THIS TRUCK SHOULD NOT EVEN HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ME OFF OF THE WYOMING VALLEY MOTORS DEALERSHIP LOT IN LARKSVILLE, PA. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK LESS THAN 14 MONTHS AND PUT LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS UNFIT TO BE ON THE ROAD AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD ESPECIALLY AT A BIG DEALERSHIP LOT. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR TRUCK AND DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
2006 FORD RANGER V6 3.0 BIGGEST PROBLEM. MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE. REPLACED MULTIPLE PARTS ALREADY NOTHING HAS WORKED. ENGINE CODE SHOWING MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 4,5,6. MULTIPLE MISFIRES. LOOKED ONLINE MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE TCH IN NEWFOUNDLAND, I HEARD THIS UNUSUAL BANG OUT OF THE REAR OF MY FORD RANGER. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SEEN SOMETHING COME FROM BENEATH THE REAR OF MY TRUCK. I PULLED OVER AS DID THE VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME. THE SPARE TIRE ASSEMBLY HAD RUSTED OFF WHICH LET THE TIRE LOOSE AND FALL OFF. THE TIRE NARROWLY ESCAPED THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME. AFTER CLOSER INSPECTION ON THE TRUCK , THE MAIN FRAME HAD COMPLETELY CRACKED OFF AS DID THE SPRING HANGER. I CONTACTED FORD RELATIONS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS IS TOTALLY UNSAFE OF FORD TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS FORD AS IT ALMOST CAUSED A FAMILY OF 3 AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND HAVE HAD IT UNDER COATED EVERY TOO YEARS. THERE IS ONLY 85000 KILOMETERS ON THIS TRUCK AND THE FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. MY PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED. *TR
ROUGH IDLE NOTICED WHILE STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. CATASTROPHIC MISFIRE UPON ACCELERATION THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. TRUCK WAS ONLY ABLE TO "LIMP" 5 OR LESS MILES PER HOUR. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD BEEN TURNING OFF AND ON HOWEVER DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED MISFIRE FOR UNKNOWN REASONS. SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE WITHIN A YEAR AS WELL. DEFECTED HEAD MANUFACTURED BY FORD. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD RANGER THAT I PURCHASED NEW (ITS MY SECOND RANGER I HAD A 1996 THAT I TRADED IN. I REALLY LIKE RANGERS BUT HAVE RUN INTO A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH RUST ON MY RANGER. THE SPRING SHACKLES RUSTED AND BROKE ON BOTH SIDES LAST WEEK. I TOOK MY BED OFF TO REPLACE THE SHACKLES AND FOUND THE BRACKETS WERE ALSO RUSTED OUT. THE FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND THERE IS RUSTED HOLES THROUGH ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR FRAME. I HAVE NOT GOT TO THE FRAME UNDER THE CAB OR FRONT OF TRUCK YET. IS THERE A RECALL OR CAN I EXPECT HELP FROM FORD. THE SAFETY FACTOR OF THE FRAME CONCERNS ME. *TR
TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO HAVE WHEELS CHANGED. WHEN PUT ON THE LIFT, I HEARD TO SOUNDS FROM THE SUSPENSION. BOTH SPRING SHACKLE HANGERS AND BRACKETS WERE RUSTED. THE SHACKLES ACTUALLY FELL APART. I HAVE REMOVED THE BED AND FOUND EXTENSIVE RUST OUT ON THE FRAME . THE DRIVER SIDE REAR FRAME IS BASICALLY GONE FROM RUST OUT. *JS
TL - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE REAR SPRING RAIL, MOUNTS AND SHACKLE WERE RUSTED PREVENTING HIM FROM PASSING STATE INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,508. PM
FORD VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STOPPED RUNNING WITH FULL TANK OF FUEL. WOULD NOT RESTART, HAD TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. REPLACED FUEL PUMP FOR $606.99. DROVE ABOUT A MILE AND SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. FOUND THAT THE FUEL INERTIA SHUT OFF SWITCH NEEDED RE-SETTING. BOUGHT A FUEL PUMP I DIDN'T NEED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES THIS YEAR AGAIN. FORD DEALER SAID I NEEDED A FUEL PUMP. (35,000 MILES) AGAIN, NO WAY. THE REPLACEMENT PART (INERTIA SWITCH) MOVES THE SWITCH FROM PASSENGER FLOOR AREA TO SIDE KICK PANEL. THE DESIGN CHANGE SHOWS DESIGN FLAW. FORD SHOULD REPLACE FOR NO COST. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN ENGINE DIES.
OF THE TWO REAR CROSS MEMBERS THAT SUPPORT THE GAS TANK ONE SIDE HAS COMPLETELY ROTTED TWO INCHES OF METAL AWAY. THE FORWARD ONE IS NEAR FAILURE THE REAR ONE COMPLETELY FAILED ONE SIDE.WILL PUT SOME SORT WEB STRAP SYSTEM SO THE TANK DON'T FALL OUT TILL WE GET WARMER WEATHER AND REMOVE THE BED TO INSPECT FRAME RAIL. A FRIEND OF MINE HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR FRAME ASSEMBLY. THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES ARE NEAR FAILURE. *TR
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2007 WITH 8K MILES AND HAD SOME RUST ON THE FRAME. NOW, 2013 I HAVE 24K MILES AND THE FRAMES IS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND MY BRAKES ARE FAILING DUE TO THE RUST. HAVE ALREADY SANDED THE FRAME AND PAINTED, BUT THE RUST COMES BACK. THIS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE PARTS CAN BREAK WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I HIT A BUMP AND MY SPARE TIRE FELL DOWN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND RETRIEVED MY WHEEL OF THE HIGHWAY AND SAW THAT IT WAS STILL CONNECTED TO PART OF THE MOUNT. THE NEXT DAY I DROVE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO PUT THE TRUCK ON A LIFT TO LOOK AT THE DAMAGE AND REALIZED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME HAD ROTTED UNDER THE TRUCK. I LEFT THE REPAIR GARAGE AND WAS HEADING HOME WHEN I HIT A POTHOLE THE ENTIRE DRIVER SIDE FRONT FRAME ROTTED AND THE WHEEL FELL PARTIALLY OFF THE TRUCK, SO I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY OFFICE PARKING LOT AND PARKED IT, BECAUSE IT IS NOT DRIVABLE ANYMORE. I CONTACTED FORD THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD SEND A REP OUT TO LOOK AT IT. SO I DID AND THE REP NEVER CAME OUT AND THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE IT REMOVED, THAT THE REP CALLED THEM AND SAID THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR ANYTHING, SO THE TRUCK STILL SITS ROTTED AND PARKED, AND REMEMBER IT ONLY HAS 17,900 MILES ON IT, THANK YOU. *TR
RUNS ROUGH AT STOP. HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATES. COULD CAUSE ACCIDENT AT INTERSECTIONS. VALVE RECESSION PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN FORD ISSUED TSB. *TR
REAR LEAF SPRING SHACKLES ARE BROKEN, FUEL TANK STRAPS ARE BROKEN REAR STRUTS ARE IN POOR CONDITION, EXTENSIVE RUST ON FRAME. *TR
2006 FORD RANGER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DEFECTIVE CYLINDER HEADS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ACCORDING TO FORDS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 05-26-3 THE ENGINES WERE BUILT AT THE FACTORY WITH DEFECTIVE HEADS. IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE HEADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AS IT WAS EXPLAINED TO HIM BY A MECHANIC AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE MATERIALS IN THE HEADS, WHICH REQUIRED THE HEADS TO BE REMOVED AND SCRAPPED, ALONG WITH THE HEAD GASKETS. THE HEADS APPEARED TO BE MADE OF SOFT IRON, WHERE THE BASE METAL WAS PERHAPS NOT HEAT TREATED. THE ESTIMATES FOR THE REPAIR OF THE ENGINE, WERE BETWEEN $3,000-$6,000 DEPENDING ON WHAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER AND ATTEMPTED TO SECURE THE TIRE BACK IN THE SUPPORTING RACK BY USING HANGERS AND ROPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE CHASSIS FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,200.
THE FIRST INCIDENT I WAS DROPPING MY GRANDDAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND THE TRUCK STALLED OUT HAD IT TOWED HOME AND IT STARTED ONCE OFF THE TOW TRUCK.THIE SECOND INCIDENT I WAS GOING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AND WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP AND THE TRUCK STALLED OUT, HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE NEXT INCIDENT I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON A FEEDER ROAD AND IT STALLED WAS NEXT TO THE SERVICE STATION WHERE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY FIXED AND AFTER APOLICEMAN STOPPED TRAFFIC AND HAD ME PUSHED TO THE SERVICE STATION WAS TOLD BY A SENIOR TECHNICIAN THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE ON THE RANGER AND TO PUSH THIS BUTTON WHENEVER IT HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS A LOT SINCE THIS TIME AND HAVE HAD SOME VERY CLOSE CALLS DUE TO THE STALLING, WITH THE LATEST ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT DUE TO OCCURRING A HIGH SPEED AFTER HITTING A ROAD BUMP. THE INERTIA SWITCH ON FORD RANGER?S 2003 THROUGH 2006 ARE DEFECTIVE IN THREE MANNERS ONE THE CONNECTORS BURN DUE TO A HIGH CURRENT DRAW, THE SWITCH ACTIVATES WITHOUT WARNING, AND DUE TO NO KICKPLATE PASSENGERS CAN ACTIVATE THE SWITCH. THIS SWITCH IS USED TO CUT THE FUEL OFF DURING A ROLL OVER CRASH SCENARIO. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET IN REGARD TO THE FIRE AND SAFETY ISSUES THIS DEFECTIVE PART HAS CAUSED. TO DATE FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL, OR NOTIFIED THE CONSUMER BASE OF THE POTENTIAL HAZARDS SURROUNDING THIS ISSUE, BUT HAS ISSUED A REDESIGNED SWITCH THAT NOW COMES WITH A COVER AND UPDATED CONNECTOR FOR PURCHASE WHEN REPLACING THE OLD SWITCH. PLEASE INVESTIGATE SINCE PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE BEING IMPACTED DUE TO THE MULTIPLE SAFETY ISSUES AND ALSO DUE TO THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH DIAGNOSING THIS ISSUE. MY COST TO DATE IS IN EXCESS OF $1300.00, AND I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING IT MYSELF DUE TO MY CONCERNS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE ENGINE MISFIRED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROUGH IDLE AND STALL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TEST RESULTS CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A TUNE-UP. THE TUNE-UP WAS PERFORMED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, CONCLUDING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEED OF A TUNE-UP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER SERVICED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON AND WARNING BUZZER SOUNDED AND DOME LIGHT CAME ON TOO. AFTER DAYS OF REPLACING PARTS IN THE DOOR AND LUBE ADDED TO THE LATCHES IN BOTH THE MAIN DOOR AND SMALL DOOR THE SMALL DOOR LATCH WILL NOT STAY LATCHED !! KEEPING THE DOME LIGHT ON AND THE DOOR AJAR ON IN THE DASH. IT'S NOT THE LIGHT SWITCH THAT'S NOT WORKING IT TESTES GOOD AND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE DOOR LATCH IS DEFECTIVE IN THE SMALL DOOR, WON'T STAY LATCHED OR IN THE CLOSED POSITION , IT ON LATCHES ON IT'S OWN OR AFTER HITTING A SMALL HOLE OR BUMP IN THE ROAD .AND IT DON'T TAKE MUCH TO ON LATCH IT YOU CAN DO IT VERY EASY BY JUST GRABBING THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR AND PULL IT A LITTLE AND IT LETS GO!! NOT VERY SAFE AND VERY DANGEROUS I WOULD SAY IN A WRECK OR ROLL OVER IT WOULD FLY OPEN YOU WOULD BE THROWN FROM THE TRUCK I WOULD SAY!! THE SEATBELTS ARE ATTACHED TO THIS SMALL FOR YOU IN THE FRONT SEAT AND ANY BODY IN THE SMALL SEAT BEHIND YOU!! THIS SERIOUS AND FORD MADE TO RECALL THESE TRUCKS AND FIXED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE WHEEL BEARING WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT NOTICED A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED HAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND AXLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 12/15/2011 AS I WAS TRAVELING FROM SAVANNAH, GA. TO ATLANTA, GA. I WAS GETTING OFF MY EXIT TO THE I675 AND SLOWED DOWN BY HITTING THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPEED UP. I WAS NOT USING THE SPEED CONTROL AT ALL AS I MISSED MY EXIT AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP. ON 12/22/2011 I WAS COMING HOME TO DETROIT, MI. AND HAD AN ACCIDENT IN GA. I WAS TRAVELING AT 35 MPH, IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND AS I PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN AROUND A CURVE I IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AS THE TRUCK FISHTAILED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND I TURNED MY WHEEL TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH 2 VEHICLES IN THAT LANE AND ENDED UP IN A CULVERT.I SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES BUT LUCKILY THERE WERE NO OTHER INJURIES OR DEATHS AS THIS VEHICLE WAS THE ONLY ONE INVOLVED. AT THAT TIME I DID NOT PUT 2 AND 2 TOGETHER AS I THOUGHT THE ROAD WAS SLIPPERY AND I COULDN'T AVOID WHAT HAD HAPPENED. ON 12/24/2011, I VISITED MY FAMILY IN ROCHESTER, MI. AND WENT TO SLOW DOWN AT A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN SPEEDING UP AGAIN CAUSING ME TO GO THROUGH THE LIGHT AND I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND I REALIZED THE PEDDLE WAS TO THE FLOOR. LUCKILY I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE INSTEAD OF MY SISTER WHO ACTUALLY OWNS THIS. THIS IS MY FIRST ACCIDENT SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN MY LICENSE BACK IN 1968 AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE. AT NO TIME WAS I USING THE SPEED CONTROL. *TR

OWN 2006 FORD RANGER SPORT 4X4. TODAY, 06-11-11 I LOST THE REAR BRAKES FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO. TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES, THEY ASKED ME IF I PARK IN STANDING WATER. I TOLD THEM NO, IN A PARKING LOT.THEY SAID THE REAR BRAKE COMPONENTS WERE FROZEN AND CORODED. I FELT THE REAR DRUMS TODAY AND THEY ARE ICE COLD. IF THEY ARE WORKING PROPERLY, THE REAR DRUMS WOULD BE HOT. ITS A VERY SCAREY FEELING WHEN YOU HIT THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK DOES NOT STOP. PLEASE CHECK TO SEE IF OTHER TRUCK OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS FIALED WHILE DRIVING. I WAS ABLE TO SAFETLY STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED IN MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AT 46,00 MILES AND WAS FOUND TO HAVE LEAN CODES P0171 AND P0174-THEY REPLACED THE INTERTIA SWITCH. VEHICLE WENT IN FOR SERVICE AND A PO306 CYLINDER MISFIRE, BUT PAPERWORK STATED COULD NOT DUPLICATE. AFTER REPAIR, VEHICLE KEPT GIVING ME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IF I FILLED THE TANK UP WITH GAS, BUT WOULD CLEAR ITSELF BEFORE I WOULD GET TO THE DEALER. ONE DAY I AM MAKEING A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE. THE FORD RANGER SPUTTERS ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND THEN SPEED UP VERY FAST. II WAS LUCKY NOT TO GET SMASHED,AS THE LIGHT CHANGED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS SPUTTERING. I IMMEDIATLY TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY TRUSTED AUTO TECHNICIAN (NOT A FORD DEALERSHIP)WHO TOLD ME I HAD PO CODES PO304 AND PO316.THE TECH PROVIDED ME WITH TSB NUMBER: 05-26-3 DATE OF ISSUE 12/31/05-(THEY KNEW MY VEHICLE WOULD FAIL BEFORE I PURCHASED IT!) THE TSB STATES 3.0L-2V VULCAN ENGINE. MIL ON VARIOUS MISFIRE RELATED DTC'S P0300 - PO306 AND P0316 ISSUE 12/31/05 MY 2006 RANGER WITH 69,000 MI DISPLAYS ALL FOR THE ISSUES INDICATED ON THIS TSB. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED BY EITHER THE NEW VEHICLE OR EMISSIONS WARRANTY COVERAGE. I CALLED THE FORD CRC AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST WITH PAYMENT TO CORRECT THEIR DEFECTIVE PART. THE FAILURE IS NOT BEING CORRECTED AT THIS TIME. *TR
APPROXIMATELY EIGHT MONTHS AGO MY VEHICLE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. IT WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND APPROXIMATELY $300 LATER I WAS TOLD THAT THE INERTIA SWITCH HAD FAILED AND HAD BEEN REPLACED. TWO DAYS AGO THE SAME SYMPTOMS APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AGAIN. I DID SOME INTERNET SEARCHING AND FOUND INFO AND A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT EXPLAINED WHERE TO FIND THE SWITCH AND HOW TO RESET IT. WENT TO THE DEALER AND ATTEMPTED THE RESET IN THEIR PARKING LOT BEFORE THEY COMPLETED ANY COSTLY REPAIRS. VEHICLE STARTED AND HAS WORKED FINE SINCE. POSSIBILITY OF STALLING IN TRAFFIC IS A CONCERN BUT I'LL TAKE MY CHANCES!! NOTEWORTHY THAT A CLOSE FRIEND WHO OWNS AN OLDER MODEL MAZDA PICKUP RECENTLY HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THE INERTIA SWITCH REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR PASSENGERS TIRE BLEW. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COLLIDED INTO ANOTHER TRUCK. THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE LOST CONTROL FROM THE IMPACT OF THE CONTACTS VEHICLE AND FLIPPED OVER. THE DRIVER OF THE SECOND VEHICLE WAS KILLED. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY A RETURN EXPERT WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE REAR PASSENGERS SIDE VALVE STEM. THE VALVE STEM WAS MANUFACTURED BY DILL, SERIAL ACP032, AND MODEL TR413. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT INFORMATION, PURCHASE DATE, AND THE VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. RUN AWAY ENGINE AFTER USING CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS NOT FUNCTIONED FOR THE LAST 1.5 YRS. THE ON LIGHT WILL COME ON BUT IT WON'T SET. IT WENT OUT ,BUT AFTER IT STOPPED WORKING THE ENGINE ACCELERATED BRIEFLY WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED BUT WE HAD PUSHED THE ON BUTTON TO SEE IF IT WORKED. THIS ALSO OCCURRED A SECOND TIME AFTER TURNING THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND OF. THE FIRST TWO EPISODES WEREN'T TOO BAD AND THE VEHICLE RPM SLOWED DOWN AFTER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. JUST THIS LAST WEEK I TRIED THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN TO SEE IF IT WOULD WORK AND IT DIDN'T. APROX TWO DAYS LATER WHILE COMING TO A STOP AND NOT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL THE ENGINE RACED WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT. I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES TO KEEP FROM GOING THRU THE LIGHT. I FINALLY PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING. THIS ENDED AFTER A FEW SECONDS. I WAS STANDING ON THE BRAKES THE WHOLE TIME. LET ME BE CLEAR, THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES WITH THE LAST TIME 1.5 YEARS AGO BEING THE WORST. IT STARTED OCCURRING AFTER THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T TURN ON AND THEN ONE DAY SUDDENLY DID AFTER HITTING THE BUTTON. EACH INSTANCE OCCURRED A FEW DAYS AFTER TRYING TO GET THE CRUISE CONTROL TO WORK. ALL THREE EPISODES OCCURRED WITHOUT EVER TOUCHING THE CRUISE CONTROL DURING THE DAY THAT THE ENGINE RACING OCCURRED. *TR

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2006 FORD RANGER 4X4, 4.0 LITER XLT CLUB-CAB. THIS TRUCK HAS 57,000 MILES ON IT, AND WILL BE 4 YEARS OLD IN MAY. AS YOU ALREADY KNOW, AND AS I HAVE FOUND OUT, THE HUB/WHEEL-BEARING BEARINGS FAIL AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES DUE TO DESIGN FLAWS. AFTER READING ABOUT THE CATASTROPHIC ACCOUNTS OF FAILURES FROM MANY OTHER OWNERS, I AM ASTOUNDED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SAFETY RECALL. ADDITIONALLY THE CURRENT DESIGN HAS BEEN PROBLEMATIC FOR SOMETIME, AND FORD HAS ADMITTED THEE PARTS MEXICAN AND CHINESE ORIGINS (WHERE COUNTERFEIT PARTS ABOUND). I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT AS THE WHEEL BEARING STARTED TO CRAB OR CATCH AT WET HIGHWAY SPEEDS. SEE CARCOMPLAINTS.COM FOR FORD HUB/WHEELBEARING FAILURES, SOME ARE RATHER EXTREME. I CAREFULLY (AND SLOWLY) TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY REPAIR SHOP, WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THE LEFT WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY LOOSE (FALLING OFF??) AND THE RIGHT WHEEL WAS LOOSE, BUT NOT AS EXTREME. AS FORD IS WELL AWARE, THE COST FOR REPLACING BOTH IS $800. THE REPAIR SHOP MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY SEE A LOT OF THESE (I.E., FORD RANGERS); SOME LESS THAN 50,000 MILES, AND THAT MINE IS NOT AN UNUSUAL CASE FOR THE FORD RANGER, AND I WILL PROBABLY BE BRINGING IT BACK IN ABOUT 40-50,000 MILES TO GET THOSE REPLACED. IT IS SAD THAT MECHANICS ARE NORMALIZING SUCH A DESIGN DEFICIENCY AS TYPICAL AND EXPECTED PERFORMANCE. DUE TO THE POOR RESPONSE TO OTHER FORD RANGER (AND EXPLORERS TOO) OWNERS (2000-2006) AND LACK OF FORDS WILLINGNESS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WILL MOST LIKELY RETURN TO TOYOTA. ADDITIONALLY, TOYOTA HAS THE RIGHT ATTITUDE IN WANTING TO RESOLVE CUSTOMER PROBLEMS TO REGAIN THEIR TRUST AND WIN THEM BACK AS EVIDENT BY RECENT ISSUES. FORD HOWEVER HAS NO SUCH ASPIRATIONS, WHICH IS CLEAR BY READING THE MANY CARCOMPLAINTS.COM ACCOUNTS OF THIS PROBLEM AND FORDS POOR RESPONSES TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THEIR SAFETY.
I WAS PULLING INTO SHERRY'S MINI MART IN DOE RUN, MO WHEN I REALIZED THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN AS EXPECTED, EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAD LITTLE TIME TO REACT AS I WAS BEARING DOWN ON THE BUILDING. I PUT MY OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, EVEN SPINNING THE TIRES TRYING TO OVERCOME THE BRAKES. I JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT THE BUILDING AT A VERY LOW SPEED. AT THIS TIME I MANAGED TO POP IT OUT OF GEAR. I DID NOT GO THROUGH THE WALL, BUT PUSHED IT IN ABOUT A FOOT. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MOST OF THE DAMAGE WAS TO THE WALL AND THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING. THERE WAS LITTLE DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK OTHER THAN A FEW SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS WALKING IN FRONT OF ME OR NEAR THE INSIDE OF THE BUILDING. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED IN THE 50,000 MILES THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK AND IT HAS NOT HAPPENED IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY FORD DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY CLAIM THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THEY COULD FIND NO FAULT CODES IN THE COMPUTER AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE SCRATCHES ON THE BUMPER. THEY DID IMPLY THAT I WAS HITTING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH THE SIDE OF MY FOOT WHILE BRAKING. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THEIR IMPLICATION AND HAVE WITNESSES WHO SAW MY EFFORTS TO STOP THE TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD RANGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE EXCESSIVELY WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED WHILE DRIVING SINCE THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED WHENEVER HE DROVE MORE THAN 20 MPH. OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
INERTIA SWITCH IN 2006 FORD RANGER CAUSES TRUCK TO STALL RANDOMLY. SWITCH IS LOCATED ON PASSENGER-SIDE IN COMPARTMENT BY THE FOOT. THIS RANDOM STALLING IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS WHILE IN THREE LANE TRAFFIC, RAILROAD CROSSINGS, INTERSECTIONS, BRIDGES, ETC.. THIS SWITCH IS DESIGNED TO CUT ELECTRIC TO FUEL PUMP IN CRASH BUT MOST OFTEN FAILS DURING NORMAL DRIVING OPERATION. THIS IS NOT A UNIQUE COMPLAINT TO 2006, BUT BY OTHER YEARS REPORTED ON THE INTERNET. THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR MANY YEARS AND IS PROBABLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE DEATHS DUE TO ERRANT OPERATION THAN IT SAVED LIVES IN A CRASH. ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF WHAT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA GONE BAD. *TR

I BOUGHT A NEW 2006 FORD RANGER SPORTS TRUCK FROM AKINS FORD IN APRIL 2006. THE TRUCK HAD GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES ON THE TRUCK WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I ROTATED THE TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OWNING THE TRUCK AND HAVE EVEN HAD A FLAT TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACE, REPAIRED AND THEN PUT BACK ON THE TRUCK. I WAS PREPARING FOR A HIGHWAY TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS, SO I WAS HAVING THE TIRES ROTATED WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT ALL 4 FOUR OF THE TIRES WERE DRYROTTING. EACH TIRE HAD EVIDENCE OF THE DRYROTTING ON THE INSIDE (THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM THE RAISED WHITE LETTERING) OF THE TIRE. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REFERRED TO A LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER. THE EXAMINED THE TIRES AND ESTIMATED THAT I HAD 50% WEAR LEFT ON THE TIRES. MY TRUCK HAS 74,000+ MILES ON THE ORIGINAL TIRES. GOODYEAR WAS ONLY WILLING TO PRORATE THE REMAINING WEAR FOR THE COST OF NEW SET OF GOODYEAR. I DID NOT WANT ANOTHER SET OF GOODYEAR SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS NEW TIRES THAT WERE DRYROTTED AND SURELY HAD NOT PLANNED TO PURCHASE A NEW SET OF TIRES AT THIS TIME. MY GREATEST CONCERN WAS MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WHILE I WAS DRIVING. *TR

THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND TRAVELED 60 FEET DOWN THE SNOW COVERED MOUNTAIN. THE VEHICLE THEN ROLLED OVER FOUR TIMES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE POLICE AND AMBULANCE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS NOT DETERMINED THE DAMAGES THAT THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,000.
I OWN A 2006 RANGER 3.0 AUTO. THAT HAS 35,300 MI. THE FUEL DELIVERY INERTIA SWITCH HAS KICKED OUT UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS TWICE. FIRST TIME AT 32,172 MI. AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN RESET THE SWITCH AND I HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL 35,100 MI. THIS TIME I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE IN A PARKING LOT, INSTEAD OF OUT IN MOVING TRAFFIC. WHEN TIS HAPPENS, THE ENGINE, OF COURSE, DIES IMMEDIATELY. THE SWITCH CANNOT BE RESET WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE AS THEY CANNOT FAIL THE SWITCH DURING " THEIR" ROAD TEST. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NUMBER 05S40. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE WIPERS WERE WORKING NORMALLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
I PURCHASED A 2006 FORD RANGER BRAND NEW IN MAY OF 2006. SOON AFTER AT PROBABLY 5000 OR SO MILES MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD COME ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND GO OFF WITHOUT ME HAVING TURNED THEM ON. THEN WHEN IT WOULD RAIN HARD AND I HAD TO USE THE WIPERS IN HIGH SPEED MODE THEY WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN I TURNED THEM OFF. THEN ALSO SOMETIMES THEY WILL NOT COME ON AT ALL. THE OTHER DAY IT STARTED POURING DOWN RAIN AND THEY WOULD NOT COME ON AND I NEARLY HAD A WRECK. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND WAIT FOR THE RAIN TO STOP. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK INTO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. BUT THE PROBLEM IS ONLY OCCASIONAL BUT IS GETTING WORSE. MY VEHICLE IS NOW AT 47000 MILES AND OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM IS STILL ONGOING AND GETTING WORSE. *TR

I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN MY 2006 FORD RANGER WITH APPROXIMATELY 3500 MILES ON IT WHEN ENGINE SPUTTERED AND STOPPED AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE. THE GAS TANK WAS NEAR FULL AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER I COASTED ACROSS A LANE OF MOVING TRAFFIC ONTO THE MEDIAN. HAVING EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN MY 1986 RANGER, I CALLED THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER TO ASK WHERE THE FUEL SAFETY SHUT OFF SWITCH WAS LOCATED. AFTER BEING ASSURED THAT THE SWITCH COULD NOT BE THE PROBLEM UNLESS I HAD BEEN IN A COLLISION OR HIT A VERY LARGE POT-HOLE, I RESET THE SWITCH AND THE TRUCK STARTED. THE SWITCHES IN THESE TRUCKS APPARENTLY HAS A DEFECT THAT HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED FOR 20 YEARS. THE SERVICE PEOPLE SEEM TO BE UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE AND I SUSPECT THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SOLD FUEL PUMPS AND OTHER RELATED ITEMS THAT WERE NOT THE PROBLEM. I AM JUST GLAD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT 65 MPH. *JB
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE DAY AFTER A SNOWSTORM IN OUR AREA. SUDDENLY, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. I ASKED THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT ICE PROBABLY ACCUMULATED IN THE VENT IN FRONT OF MY WINDSHIELD AND I SHOULD POUR HOT WATER INTO THE VENT TO THAW THE ICE. I CAN'T DO THIS WHENEVER IT SNOWS AND I'M ON THE HIGHWAY. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE THE 2006 FORD RANGER THE PASSENGER KICKED THE EMERGENCY SHUT OFF SWITCH AND THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 FORD RANGER XLT WHEN I LOST CONTROL AND ROLLED THE VEHICLE 4 - 5 TIMES. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT/SHOULDER HARNESS, BUT THE AIRBAGS ON NEITHER SIDE DEPLOYED, EVEN THOUGHT THE FRONT END AND CAB WAS DESTROYED. THE TRUCK WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AND I AM NOW FACED WITH REHAB FOR UP TO FOUR WEEKS FOR SPRAINS AND TISSUE DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT SHOULDER. *JB
ON JUNE 13, 2006 APPROX. 3:00 PM MY FATHER WAS CRITICALLY INJURED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT JUST OUTSIDE OF MOSES LAKE WASHINGTON. MY FATHER STILL REMAINS HOSPTALIZED AFTER HAVING TO HAVE AN EAR REATTACHED, SEVERE HEAD LACERATIONS, A BROKEN EYE SOCKET, AND BROKEN BREAST BONE, AND HAVING THE SKIN TORN OFF HIS LEFT HAND. THE WASHINGTON STATE PATROL SAYS ACCORDING TO WITNESSES THAT HIS TRUCK FLIPPED 3-4 TIMES CAUSING TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE TRUCK. AT NO TIME DURING THE ROLLOVER AND DESTRUCTION OF THE TRUCKS FRONTEND DID THE AIR BAGS DEPLOY. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW 2006 FORD RANGER WITH LESS THAN 2,500 MILES ON IT. IF IT WAS NOT FOR A PASSING NURSE AND EMT THE STATE PATROL SAYS MY FATHER WOULD HAVE LIKELY DIED. I CALLED BOTH THE DEALER, AND SENT AN EMAIL TO THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY, BOTH DECLINED TO COMMENT. I AM VERY DISTURBED THAT VEHICLES ARE BEING SOLD WITH SUCH PROBLEMS. SINCERELY, PATRICK MARTIN. *NM

I BOUGHT MY TRUCK BRAND NEW LAST MONTH ON APRIL 18TH I HAVE JUST OVER 1000 MILES ON IT AND WITHIN THE FIRST 400 MILES I HAD PROBLEMS WITH STARTING THE TRUCK, WHEN I TURN THE KEY MOST OF THE TIME IT STARTS, BUT OCCASIONALLY IF I LET GO OF THE KEY ABOUT THE TIME IT NORMALLY STARTS THE ENGINE DIES AND ONCE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO START IT AGAIN I HEARD THE STARTER MAKE THE NOISE LIKE IT DOES IF YOU TURN THE KEY AND THE ENGINE IS ALREADY RUNNING. ALSO MY TRANSMISSION WILL OCCASIONALLY JERK WHEN IT SHIFTS GEARS. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE TECH DROVE IT AND THE SHOP MANAGER DROVE IT TOO AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. I AM STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD HATE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONTINUE AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THEN I AM STUCK WITH A HUGE BILL TO FIX IT. *JB
