I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROX. 30-35 MPH, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN A HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING SOUND, OCCURED AND MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FORWARD ANYMORE. I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND THEN SHIFTED THE CAR INTO R,D, AND OD AND NOTHING ENGAGED... THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET...HAD IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS SOMETHING WITH MY TRANSMISSION, BUT THEY DIDNT SAY WHAT, ONLY THAT IS WAS GOING TO COST $2250 TO REPLACE IT.....HAD IT TOWED HOME..NOT REPAIRED
MY 2006 MERCURY MMONTEREY STARTED JUMPING WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND MAKING A NOISE WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE TCC SELENOID SO WE REPLACED IT AN THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE SO TOOK IT BACKTO FIND THE TORQUE CONVETER IS BAD.
MY FAMILY WAS TRAVELING ON THE I-65 SOUTH INTERSTATE AND THE VAN, 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY, STOP RESPONDING IN THE MIDDLE OF FAST TRAFFIC. IT TOOK ME BY TOTAL SURPRISE. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. SO, I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT HAD ACCIDENTLY WENT IN NEUTRAL BUT THAT WASN'T THE CASE. I TRIED A LOWER GEAR WITH NOT LUCK. NOT WANTING TO BE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE I THEN TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND FRANTICALLY MANEUVERED THE VAN TO THE SIDE OF THE BUSY INTERSTATE ROAD. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD MY HUSBAND TRIED EVERY GEAR AND THE VAN WASN'T RESPONDING IN ANY OF THEM. WE ENDED UP GETTING IT TOWED TO OUR HOUSE. AFTER WE GOT HOME MY HUSBAND STARTED RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF A VEHICLE STOP RESPONDING LIKE THAT WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGNS. HE SAID THIS HAS TO BE VEHICLE DEFECT AND LOOKED UP RECALLS FOR THE VAN ON THE NHTSA.ORG WEBSITE. THERE WASN'T A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT THERE WERE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH WE FOUND THAT THE 2004 MODEL OF THIS VAN HAD THE SAME ISSUE WHICH FORD DID DO A RECALL FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THE FORD COMPANY NEEDS TO BE IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED THAT THIS IS ALSO A BIG SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE 2006 MODEL. ONE THE REASONS MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS BECAUSE IT WAS BUILT BY FORD AND HE TRUSTED THEIR PRODUCTS. I HOPE FORD WILL TAKE THE COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY AND STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND GET THIS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON THE MERCURY MONTEREY 2006 VEHICLES RESOLVED QUICKLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED. ALSO, THE RPMS INCREASED TO HIGH. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS STRIPPED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
OUR VAN WAS DRIVING JUST FINE AND SUDDENLY, WITH NO WARNING AT ALL, WENT INTO NEUTRAL, STOPPING IN AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS AROUND 88000 MILES ON IT. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE LINCOLN DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD FAILED. I NOTICED FORD HAD ALREADY RECALLED ALL OF THE 2004 FREESTARS AND 2005 MONTEREYS FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT YET SOMEHOW MY 2006 WITH A SEPTEMBER 2005 BUILD DATE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. SO GUESS WHAT? FORD KNOWINGLY LEFT ME IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, AND NOW I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR BILL. FORD SO VERY CLEARLY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY THE TIME BY VEHICLE WAS BUILT. NHTSA NEEDS TO ENCOURAGE FORD TO RECALL ALL THE 2006 AND PROBABLY ALL THE 2007S AS WELL. FORD SHOULD BE PAYING FOR MY REPAIR, NOT ME.
DRIVING DOWN THE STREET...LOST ALL FORWARD MOVEMENT. EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING, JUST NO ENGAMENT OF TRANSMISSION
TAKATA INFLATORS. DRIVING IN TRAFFIC WITHOUT WARNING VEHICLE JUST STOPS MOVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.BELIEVE SOLENOID TO DRIVE TRANNY IS FAULTY.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, JUST NORMAL DRIVING, POSTED SPEED OR BELOW,. HAD GAS PEDAL DOWN AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE HAS NO POWER. HAD TO PUSH TO THE SIDE. CAN MOVE GEAR SHIFT, BUT CAR DOESN'T GO INTO ANY DIRECTION, FORWARD OR BACKWARD.
TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ITS RACING ALSO THE CRUSE CONTROL SPEED UP MORE THAN IT SHOULD MY FAMILY AND ARE NOT SAFE WHEN GOING ON A LONG ROAD TRIP HOW WOULD YOU FEEL HAVING A BREAK DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE AND ON THE HIGH WAY BECAUSE OF THE BAD TRANSMISSION YOU PUT IN THE VEHICLE PLEASE FIX IT PLEASE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,080.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE GOING UP AN INCLINE, THE TRANSMISSION STALLED AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION WAS CONTAMINATED WITH WATER AND NEEDED TO BE REBUILT, THE FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE WIPER COWL NEEDED TO BE REMOVED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE10033 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
WHILE EXITING HIGHWAY LOST TRANSMISSION. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. REPAIR ATTEMPT DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM. WAS TOLD IT WAS TORQUE CONVERTER.
WAS DRIVING DOWN MAIN STREET IN MONROE WIS WHEN CAR JUST WENT IN TO NEUTRAL AND WE JUST COST. LUCKILY HAD ENOUGH SPEED TO GET IN A PARKING LOT. LEFT 2 86 YEAR OLDS AND 1 92 YEAR OLD SITTING IN THE VAN AT 10:30 AT NIGHT LUCKILY A RELATIVE COULD GET US. TOWED VAN TO DEALER WAS TOLD TORQUE CONVERTER HAD STRIPPED THE OUT PUT SHAFT SPLINES THAT THIS WAS A RECALL ON THE YEAR BEFORE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. UPDATED 01/11/2017*CT *TR
CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. MECHANIC SAYS THAT THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE BURNED UP. IT APPEARS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER INCIDENTS IN WHICH THIS HAS HAPPENED
I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS VEHICLE AND DO NOT WANT TO INCUR THE EXPENSE REPLACING ANOTHER. WITH NO WARNING THE VEHICLE ACTED AS IF IT SLIPPED OR POPPED OUT OF GEAR AS I WAS GOING DOWN A FAIRLY BUSY STREET. I HAD LOST ALL GEARS. I COULD MOVE THE SHIFTER BUT NO GEARS WOULD ENGAGE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY RESIDENCE THEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP. NOT SURE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE YOU NEED BEFORE NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER TO DECLARE A RECALL, BUT I'M SURE THE COMPLAINTS WRITTEN ON THIS SITE REPRESENT A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE OR ARE HAVING THIS VERY SAME ISSUE AS THE 2004 AND 2005 MODEL YEAR THAT FOR SOME REASON DID GET A RECALL ISSUED. IT IS TIME THE 2006 MODELS WERE INCLUDED.
TORQUE CONVERTER IS STRIPPING. 2004 AND 2005 RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT 2006. SAME CAR. SAME TRANSMISSION. SAME TORQUE CONVERTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR PARK POSITION WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIFT FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
WE ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE 3RD ROW PASSENGER SEAT IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION AND DISCOVERED THE SEAT BRACKET WAS LOOSE. UPON REMOVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE GARAGE, WE OBSERVED RUST ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. AFTER INSPECTING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND CHECKING ON WEBSITES TO DETERMINE A POSSIBLE FIX TO THIS ISSUE, WE DISCOVERED THERE HAD BEEN A PREVIOUS 2013 FORD MOTOR CO RECALL #13S01 - CORROSION OF THIRD ROW SEAT ATTACHMENT (NHTSA ACTION # EA12003). HOWEVER BECAUSE WE BOUGHT OUR VEHICLE AND LIVE IN THE STATE OF KENTUCKY, OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL (EVEN THOUGH OUR STATE USES LOTS OF SALT ON THE ROADS DURING THE WINTER SEASON). ON OCTOBER 29, 2015 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THERE WAS RUST AND ADVISED I CONTACT THE NATIONAL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AREA FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION. I DID SO AND WAS ADVISED THERE WAS NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. (AT NO TIME IN THE PAST WAS I INFORMED OF THE 2013 RECALL!) FORD ADVISED THEY COULD NOT HELP AND I SHOULD KEEP MY RECEIPTS FOR POSSIBLE REIMBURSEMENT SHOULD A FUTURE RECALL BE ISSUED. I BELIEVE THIS IS RIDICULOUS IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THERE WAS ALREADY A RECALL AND THE ONLY REASON I WASN'T INCLUDED IS BECAUSE OF THE STATE IN WHICH I RESIDE AND PURCHASED MY VEHICLE. KENTUCKY USES SALT ON THEIR ROADWAYS JUST LIKE SEVERAL SURROUNDING STATES--ILLINOIS, OHIO, INDIANA, WEST VIRGINIA--THAT WERE INCLUDED IN THE 2013 RECALL. IF THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A SAFETY ISSUE (NOW I'M CONCERNED TO HAVE ANYONE SIT IN THE 3RD ROW SEAT FOR FEAR OF THEIR INJURY OR HEAVEN-FORBID DEATH), THEN WHY WON'T THEY FIX MY VEHICLE?
I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION JUMPED AND LOST ALL THE GEARS. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE VAN. I STARTED IT BACK UP AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THROUGH ALL OF THE GEARS BUT WOULD NOT MOVE JUST REV THE RPMS. HAD IT TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE AND WAS ADVISED THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS HAPPENING WITH THE TORQUE GETTING STRIPPED. CONTACTED FORD TO BE ADVISED IT WAS NOT INCLUDED FOR MY VIN EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE HAPPENING WITH OTHER VANS SAME YEAR AND MAKE. FORD REFUSES TO ASSIST OR COVER THIS REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V006000 (POWER TRAIN); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. MA 10/2
CROSSING OVER BUSY ROAD AND WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL THERE WAS NO POWER. ALL IT DID WAS REV THE ENGINE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GLIDE TO A SIDE ROAD AND HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER THAT WAS BAD. *TR
VEHICLE MAKING CLANKING NOISE WHEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL. THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS SAID IT IS IN TRANSMISSION AND COULD INVOLVE THE TORQUE CONVERTER AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,056.
WAS AT STOP LIGHT WENT TO PULL OFF AND IT STOPPED AND LOST POWER AT THE LIGHT PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER HAD IT TOWED. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUE THAT FORD RECALLED FOR THE 2005 YEAR MERCURY MONTEREY BUT NOT FOR THE 2006 YEAR MODEL. I CALLED FORD AND THE TOLD ME THEY WAS SORRY BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN OR COULD DO FOR ME. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED THE SAME DAY THE TRANSMISSION WENT. MY BROTHER WAS DRIVING IT HOME FROM THE (NON-FORD) DEALERSHIP, WHERE HE WORKS. I HAD NOT HAD ANY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS PREVIOUSLY. THIS IS WHAT HE SENT ME: "I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN OUT OF WAWA INTO THE CENTER LANE. THERE WAS NO ONE COMING SO I GAVE IT A LITTLE MORE THROTTLE JUST TO GAIN SPEED SO I COULD GET OVER INTO THE ACTUAL LANE. WHEN I DID THIS IT ALMOST FELT LIKE THE TRANS WENT FROM GRABBING TO JUST "REVVING" WITH NO POWER. I COASTED IT INTO GIANT'S PARKING LOT. ONCE STOPPED I TRIED ALL THE GEARS AND IT WOULD JUST REV UP AND NOT MOVE." A FEW DAYS LATER I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. HE THEN TOLD ME THAT "THE PUMP WENT" AND THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. HE ALSO TOLD ME TO CHECK FOR RECALLS BECAUSE IT MIGHT HAVE ONE AND IT WOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE, INSTEAD OF PAYING HIM TONS OF MONEY (WHICH I FIND ADMIRABLE). WITH JUST A LITTLE RESEARCH I FOUND THE RECALL ON THE 04 & 05'S (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA09016). I SENT HIM THE ARTICLES AND LINKS I FOUND TO ASK IF THIS WAS MY PROBLEM, HE SAID YES. THIS MINIVAN IS LESS THAN 8 YEARS AND HAS JUST UNDER 80K MILES ON IT (MANUFACTURED IN 2/06 BUT NOT PURCHASED UNTIL THE END OF APRIL). IT'S NOT HARD TO FIGURE OUT THAT I DRIVE LESS THAN 10,000 MILES PER YEAR. IT SHOULDN'T NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION! MY HUSBAND'S SATURN HAS ALMOST 200K ON IT AND NOT NEEDED ANY MAJOR WORK LIKE THIS. I FULLY EXPECTED TO KEEP THIS MINIVAN AROUND FOR A LOT LONGER THAN THIS. IT MAKES ME REALLY SAD TO THINK OF HER JUST SITTING IN A LOT OF OTHER NON-WORKING JALOPIES! I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE LOTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHERS HERE ON THIS WEBSITE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. PLEASE HELP US! RECALL THIS MODEL YEAR!!! THANK YOU. *TR
I DO NOT KNOW THE DATES OR MILEAGES AT THE TIME, I'M SURE IT WAS OVER 36,000 MILES OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALER. ACTUALLY THE FIRST TIME I MAY HAVE, AND THEY PROBABLY SAID "YOUR CAR DIDN'T THROW OUT A CODE" I'VE HEARD THAT MANY TIMES... ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS, POSSIBLY THREE, I HIT THE BRAKES *LIGHTLY* IN DRY WEATHER AND IT SETS OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL. ONE TIME I WAS RUSHING MY SON TO THE HOSPITAL AND I COULD NOT GO OVER 40 MILES AN HOUR, I WAS ON A HIGHWAY SO I COULD NOT SAFELY PULL OVER (THAT WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAD HAPPENED SO I KNEW I NEEDED TO STOP AND SHUT THE CAR OFF TO "RESET" IT. I JUST CRIED ALL THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL). I BELIEVE IT WENT OFF WHEN I TAPPED THE BRAKES TO GET ONTO THE ONRAMP, I HAD A "YIELD". ANOTHER TIME I WAS ON A BUSY TWO-LANE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, THAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED BECAUSE I WAS FREAKED OUT. I COULD NOT GO THE MINIMUM SPEED ON THE ROAD AND I COULD NOT PULL OVER (NO SHOULDER). AT THE STOP LIGHT I DID EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF TO GET IT WORKING AGAIN. I TRIED SHIFTING INTO PARK, BUT THAT DID NOT HELP. I THINK I MADE IT TO THE NEXT LIGHT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT RESTARTED FINE. ACTUALLY, THIS ISSUE PROBABLY HAPPENED 4 OR 5 TIMES OVERALL. I BELIEVE IT HAPPENED TO MY HUSBAND ONCE, THEN HE FINALLY BELIEVE ME. THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO STALL. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THEN DRIVE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT ALSO SHIFTED INTO REVERSE BUT STILL NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE POWER TRAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE POWER TRAIN REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000. ...UPDATED 03/07/14 *BF THE TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 03/13/14
MY WIFE WAS PULLING OUT ONTO A BUSY STREET AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND AFTER MAKING THE TURN AND TRYING TO GET UP TO THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC SHE NOTICED THAT THE CAR HAD QUIT ACCELERATING. AFTER LOSING DRIVE POWER UNEXPECTEDLY SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO ALLOW THE APPROACHING CARS TO PASS. THE ENGINE OF THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN, BUT PLACING THE CAR INTO ANY GEAR DID NOT ENGAGE. WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED, AND FOUND OUT THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD FAILED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, SHE APPROACHED A TRAFFIC STOP SIGNAL AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING WITH MY FAMILY ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY IN OUR MINIVAN WHEN WITHOUT WARNING. IT LOSS POWER. THE VEHICLE GAVE NO SIGNS OF ANY PROBLEM NO WARNING LIGHTS OF ANY KIND. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SERVICE ROAD AND HAD TO WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD NOR DOES GO INTO REVERSE. A SEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THAT THE 2004 2005 MERCURY MONTEREY WERE RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEM HOWEVER NOT THE 2006. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED INTERMITTENTLY AND SLIPPED OUT OF OVERDRIVE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO ENGAGE WHILE IT WAS SET. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 06/18/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION, BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED SINCE THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ON, THERE WAS NO WAY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AND THEN SHIFT IN AND OUT OF OVERDRIVE. UPDATED 06/28/13
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER DIAGNOSIS, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE PUMP SHAFT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 116,000.
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST FORWARD GEAR. AFTER COASTING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WE FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE HAS LOST BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED UNDER ITS OWN POWER. NOTHING ELSE ON THE VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED. FORD HAS A POWERTRAIN RECALL FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER ON THE SAME MODEL VEHICLE PRODUCED IN 2004 AND 2005. THE 2006 MODEL HAS THE SAME POWERTRAIN COMPONENTS AND IT SEEMS THAT THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE 2006 MODEL ALSO. *TR
MY WIFE WAS TAKING OUR 6-YR DAUGHTER TO DAISY SCOUTS WHEN AT A BUSY THREE-WAY STOP SIGN, WITHOUT WARNING SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR TAKE ANY POWER FROM THE STILL RUNNING ENGINE. COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSS OF ALL ABILITY TO PUT VEHICLE INTO ANY GEAR, INCLUDING REVERSE. HAD TO BE PUSHED OFF TO THE SIDE OF ROAD BY HELPFUL STRANGERS WHO EXITED THEIR CARS TO ASSIST MY WIFE. WE ARE METHODICAL ABOUT SERVICING OUR VEHICLES AT THE DEALERSHIP. NO CLUES OR INDICATIONS OF ANY TRANSMISSION TROUBLE BEFORE THIS OCCURRED. CAUSED A TRAFFIC BACK-UP BEHIND HER WITH OTHER CARS HONKING AND SWIFTLY PULLING OUT FROM BEHIND HER AND PASSING HER. COULD HAVE BEEN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS FOR HER, AND ANYONE ASSISTING HER, IF IT HAD HAPPENED TO HER ON BUSY BRIDGE, TUNNEL OR INTERSTATE AT SPEED. *TR
NOTE DATE WILL NOT REGISTER//ON FRIDAY FEB. 03,2012 WAS ENTERING I-4 HERE IN FLORIDA. I NOTED THAT THE TACH WENT TO 4000.RPM. STARTED TO LOOSE POWER AND FINALLY PULLED OFF ROAD. TRIED ALL GEARS AND NOTHING WORKED. CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD TOWED TO A MERCURY DEALER. THEY INDICATED THAT IS WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT NOT ON MY CAR. PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THERE WAS NOT A RECALL? *TR
THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED ON A BUSY FREEWAY. WAS UNABLE TO USE ENGINE POWER TO SAFELY NAVIGATE TO A SAFE STOPPING POINT. THE SPLINES ON THE GEAR IN THE CONVERTER STRIPPED OFF REMOVING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
VEHICLE STOPPED FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHEN A DRIVE AWAY WAS ATTEMPTED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE IN ANY GEAR. ENGINE OPERATED NORMALLY. THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING SIGNS. *TT VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO A FORD SERVICE GARAGE. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAILED TORQUE CONVERTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE REAR LIFTGATE OPENED, WHEN THE LIFTGATE UNEXPECTEDLY CLOSED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES WHEN THE LIFTGATE COLLAPSED ONTO HIM. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LIFTGATE WOULD NO LONGER OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
REPEATED ENGINE STALLING DUE TO DEFECTIVE POWER CONTROL MODULE. *LN
PULLING OUT INTO HWY TO CROSS TRAFFIC, CAR QUIT ACCELERATING. STARTED "JUMPING" LIKE OUT OF GAS. WAS SITTING CROSSWISE IN THE ROAD NOW, WITH CARS COMING FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS, JUST KEPT PUSHING GAS, AND IT'D MOVE A FEW INCHES AT A TIME. FINALLY GOT ACROSS INTO LANE, AND HAD TO DRIVE IT LIKE THAT TO TURN OFF A FEW HUNDRED YARDS. TURNED IGNITION OFF, AND ON, AND WAS NORMAL AGAIN. HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES, YET FORD SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE VEHICLE DECELERATES, LOSES POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY, AND ALSO STALLS. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RESTARTED IN ORDER FOR IT TO OPERATE NORMALLY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, BUT THEY, AS WELL AS AN INVESTIGATOR FROM FORD, COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,000. UPDATED 08/13/08 *BF THE ABS LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATEED AS WELL. UPDATED 08/13/08
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. WHILE DRIVING LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE AND SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, THE ADVANCE TRACK ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATES. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. FORD SENT AN ENGINEER TO THE DEALER AND HE RETRO FITTED SOMETHING TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO BLOCK LIGHT FROM AFFECTING THE SENSORS. THE REMEDY HAS NOT CORRECTED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FIVE TIMES AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,300.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY MONTEREY. ON SIX OR SEVEN OCCASIONS, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE ALSO LOST POWER, HESITATED, AND DECREASED IN SPEED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO GAIN SPEED NO MATTER HOW HARD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. WHEN THE CONTACT TURNS THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON, IT OPERATES NORMALLY. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
