As with the early 2000's recall the paint (Clear coat) on Kalapana Black (Code X13) has started to peel off and Mitsubishi refused to address the issue. My vehicle has less than 75k miles and has been garaged most of its life as it is not a daily driver and I am the only owner. Mitsubishi recalled the earlier years but stopped it I believe in 2002 being the latest year but seems they continued the painting practices.
THE TOP COAT, CLEAR COAT, OF PAINT HAS BEGUN TO SEPARATE FROM THE BLACK PAINT. THIS IS HAPPENING VERY RAPIDLY AND CONTINUES TO SPREAD OVER THE TOP OF THE CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS IN LATE 90'S EARLY 2000'S FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON FOR THE EXACT SAME COLOR OF VEHICLE.
POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE FELL AND RUBBED ON THE SERPENTINE SPELL UNTIL IT ATE A HOLE IN I. I AND THE TRACTION CONTROL IS ENGUAGEING AND DISENGAGEING ON ITS OWN ANS MY AIRBAG LIGHTS ARE FLASHING UNAVAILABLE.

MY V-6 (3.8) GT HAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES ON IT. THE CODE (PO421) HAS COME UP ON AN OBII WHICH IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. IN MY STATE (WASHINGTON) THE RECALL ON THIS PART IS NOT HONORED, DUE TO THE 80000 MILE WARRANTY. IN MANY OTHER STATES IT IS WARRANTIED TO 100,000 MILES. WHETHER OTHER STATES HAVE STRICTER EMISSION LAWS, OR WHATEVER THE REASON, THIS DOES NOT CHANGE THE LIFE EXPECTANCY, PERFORMANCE OR MAKEUP OF THE PART THAT IS EXPECTED TO LAST 100000 MILES. IN SHORT, I AM HOPING TO GET A STANDARDIZED AND EQUAL TREATMENT AS OTHERS DRIVING THE SAME VEHICLE WITH A FAIR WARRANTY. *TR

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JULY THAT THE BRAKES COULD FAIL IF THE ABS IS ACTIVATED. MITSUBISHI REFERRED ME TO A DEALER (THE ONLY DEALER IN NEVADA). THE DEALER SAID THEY CAN'T MAKE ANY REPAIRS, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE CAR. SO, I CALLED MITSUBISHI, AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO REPAIR SOLUTION AVAILABLE. SO I REQUESTED A LOANER, SINCE MY CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY TOLD ME THEY DON'T SUPPLY LOANERS, AND THAT I SHOULD CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR UNLESS THE BRAKES FAIL. UNBELIEVABLE! TWO MONTHS LATER, THE BRAKES FAILED AFTER ABS SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED IN THE RAIN AND I SLID THROUGH AN INTERSECTION ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON A CITY STREET AT 45MPH AFTER TRYING TO STOP USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME FOR THE TOW (BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS DISABLED) AND FOR STORAGE (BECAUSE THEY ALLEGEDLY DON'T HAVE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR). MITSUBISHI OFFERED NO HELP WHATSOEVER. THEY REFERRED ME BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY CAN'T MAKE THE REPAIR. I TOLD MITSUBISHI ABOUT MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE, AND THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL. THEY SAID THEY AREN'T AUTHORIZED TO MAKE ANY DECISIONS, AND THAT ONLY THE DEALERSHIP CAN OPT TO TOW/REPAIR THE CAR OR SUPPLY A LOANER. SO NOW MY CAR SITS IN THE PARKING LOT, BROKEN DOWN WITH NO BRAKES, WITH A RECALL NOTICE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THEY WANT ME TO TOW THE CAR 45 MILES OUT OF MY OWN POCKET, OR DRIVE THE CAR WITH NO BRAKES. THEN THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR THE LOANER. AND THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR STORAGE WHILE THE CAR SITS ON THEIR LOT WAITING FOR MITSUBISHI TO COME UP WITH A REPAIR SOLUTION. UNBELIEVABLE.

WHILE TRAVELING AT AN UNKNOWN RATE OF SPEED, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND DID NOT RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE TWICE. THE DRIVER DID NOT RECEIVE MEDICAL ATTENTION FROM EITHER CRASH, BUT SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK PAINS. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. DURING THE FIRST CRASH, FOUR TIRES SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. DURING THE SECOND CRASH, THE TWO FRONT TIRES FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V337000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD BE COMPLETED. WHILE PERFORMING A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL LOST ALL PRESSURE AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR DID STOP BUT TOOK LONGER TO DO SO. AFTER REVIEWING THE RECALL NOTICE FOR ABS BRAKES I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A MITSUBISHI DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THERE WAS A RECALL BUT DID NOT INSPECT ANYTHING BEYOND DRIVING THE CAR TO TEST THE BRAKES. BETWEEN THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AND THE ONE AND A HALF WEEKS THEY CLAIMED WAS THE NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT THE BRAKES RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE RECALL (15V337) STATES THE HYDRAULIC UNIT WILL BE FLUSHED, CLEANED AND INSPECTED. THE DEALER INDICATED THEY WERE ONLY TESTING THE BRAKING SYSTEM BY DRIVING IT AND WHEN THE INCIDENT DID NOT PRODUCE THE SAME RESULT, THAT WAS THE END OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITY UNTIL I RECEIVED A CERTIFIED LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THIS RECALL WAS ISSUED IN MAY 2015 AND IT IS NOW THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER 2015. THE MANUFACTURER IS OBVIOUSLY DELAYING DOING THE APPROPRIATE INSPECTION AND REPAIR WHILE THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE CONTINUES TO AFFECT MANY CONSUMERS.

WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM WORK GOING 30 MPH I TURNED RIGHT AND NEEDED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET AHEAD. WHEN I DEPRESSED MY BREAK PEDAL IT WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND HAD VERY LITTLE, IF ANY REACTION. ALSO, THERE WAS A STRANGE SOUND WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER IN GOODLETTSVILLE, TN TO BE DIAGNOSED BUT THEY SAID IT WAS SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. I DECLINED THE SERVICE. IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE THEN, WITH MY BREAKS GOING BACK TO NORMAL AFTER I STOP AND RESTART THE CAR. HOWEVER, A FEW WEEKS AGO THIS HAPPENED AND THEY HAVE NOT GONE BACK TO NORMAL. AFTER FINDING THE RECALL, I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP NEAREST ME BUT THEY SAID THEY CANNOT FIX IT YET BECAUSE THEY ARE WAITING ON PARTS, AND IT IS MY JOB, YET BECAUSE OF THEIR FAULTY ENGINEERING, TO BRING A CAR THAT I WILL NOT DRIVE BECAUSE OF THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO THEM. IT IS TAKING MITSUBISHI AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME TO SECURE PARTS FOR THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

BRAKES FAILED FROM TIME TO TIME. WANTAGH MITSUBISHI HAD CAR FOR 3 DAYS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM MITSUBISHI. CALLED THE DEALER WHO SAID THERE IS NO FIX AT THIS TIME. CALLED MITSUBISHI WHO CONFIRMED THAT AND GAVE ME THE CHOICE OF GOING BACK TO THE DEALER OR WAITING FOR THE SECOND NOTICE. MY BRAKES HAVE FAILED IN THE PAST AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I HAD JUST PURCHASED CAR AND I HAD ALL MAINTENANCE ITEMS DONE AT AAA GARAGE TO INCLUDE TIMING BELT, SERPENTINE BELT, OIL CHANGE, TUNE UP, ANTI FREEZE FLUSH, TIRES ROTATED, ETC. THERE WAS NOTHING NDONEVTO BRAKES AS THEY STILL HAD LIFE IN THEM. I KNOW MORE MAINTENANCE ITEMS WERE DONE BUT I FORGET AS MY RECEIPT IS ELSEWHERE. HAPPY NOW I COULD DRIVE MY CAR KNOWING THE TIMING BELT AND OTHER MAINTENANCE THINGS WERE DONE I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP. I HAD ONLY GONE APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES AND CAME TO STOP LIGHT. NO BRAKES. WE CALLED AAA AND BROUGHT IT RIGHT BACK. THEY WEREN'T SURE WHY NO BRAKES AS THEY SEEM TO WORK OK NOW. SO THE ONLY THING LEFT THAT HADN'T BEEN DONE WAS THE BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT AND FLUSH. WE HAD THAT DONE AND WE DROVE IT HOME OK. THERE WERE GREETED WITH THE NEW RECALL ON THE ABS BRAKES. IT WAS SCARY WHEN THE BRAKES WENT SO NOW THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AGAIN AND WE ARE CALLING THE COMPANY TO GET CAR IN SHOP AND GET LOANER SO AT LEAST I AM SAFE AND HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE PEOPLE DON'T MESS WITH THIS. THERE IS NO WARNING. LUCKILY I WAS COMING TO STOP LIGHT AND NOBODY IN FRONT TB

I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TO ENTER A CHURCH AND AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN I LOST COMPLETE PRESSURE OF THE BRAKES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO MECHANIC BUT THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY AFTER A DAY. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKES WERE FINE. (ONE OF THOSE BEING A MITSUBISHI DEALER). THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF THERE WAS A CAR COMING OUT OF THE CHURCH I WOULD'VE HAD AN ACCIDENT OR CRASH.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR NORMALLY FINE AND THERE WAS A SMALL POT HOLE ON THE GROUND THAT I WENT OVER. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES WHILE RUNNING OVER THE POT HOLE AND THE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY LOST. IT WAS A SPONGY FEELING AS THE BRAKES WERE TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES HAD VERY LITTLE POWER AND WHEN LET GO HAD A WHISTLING SOUND COMING BACK UP. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WHILE DOWN SHIFTING TO LOWER GEARS BECAUSE THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK.
THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES IN MY VEHICLE AND HAS ACTUALLY RESULTED IN A CRASH PREVIOUSLY. IN AN EMERGENCY BREAKING SITUATION I WILL LOSE BRAKE PRESSURE, THE PEDAL WILL GO TO THE FLOOR, AND MY CAR FAILS TO STOP. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED IN 2011. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MITUSBISHI DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE BREAKING SYSTEM ASSESSED AND THEY TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS FINE (THE BRAKES HAD CORRECTED THEMSELVES BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT). THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, THEY ONCE AGAIN CORRECTED THEMSELVES SO NO APPOINTMENT WAS MADE. THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED (JULY 2013), I ACTUALLY RAN INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY BRAKES DID NOT CORRECT THEMSELVES AFTER THE IMPACT AND A WHEEZING SOUND COULD BE HEARD. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A NON-MITSUBISHI REPAIR SHOP TO BE ASSESSED AND WAS TOLD THAT MY MASTER CYLINDER WAS DEFECTIVE. I PURCHASED A NEW MASTER CYLINDER AND THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL TWO DAYS AGO WHEN I NEEDED TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES AGAIN. I APPLIED HARD PRESSURE TO THE BREAKS, THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW, AND THEN MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO APPLY MY EMERGENCY BREAK TO STOP THE CAR. THE REMAINDER OF MY TRIP INVOLVED ME DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND KEEPING A LARGE AMOUNT OF DISTANCE (THE BRAKES ONLY WORKED IF THE PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR). I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW TO HAVE EVERYTHING LOOKED AT AGAIN AND THIS TIME I AM NOT TAKING "EVERYTHING LOOKS FINE" FOR AN ANSWER. AFTER DOING RESEARCH, I LANDED ON THE LIST OF RECALLS I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT, AND MITSUBISHI NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT (I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE 2009), AND NUMEROUS FORUMS OF PEOPLE DESCRIBING THIS EXACT SAME SITUATION. I CALLED MISTUBISHI ABOUT THE RECALL INVOLVING THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THEY TOLD ME MY VIN DID NOT QUALIFY. I AM INCREDIBLY DISPLEASED WITH THEIR RESPONSE AND THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. NO MITSUBISHI MECHANIC HAS EVER BOTHERED TO BRING THIS UP TO ME OR DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
UPON TRYING TO STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKES BECAME EFFECTIVE. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT OTHER CARS WHEN STOPPING. I REPORTED THIS TO MITSUBISHI AND TOLD THEM I THOUGHT IT SHOULD BE PART OF AN OLD 2006 WARRANTY RECALL BUT THEY CLAIMED MY VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE 2006 RECALL, YET IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH OTHER OWNERS OF MULTIPLE YEARS OF ECLIPSES 2006 AND BEYOND. THIS IS A DANGEROUS BRAKING PROBLEM. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SPONGY AND BRAKES ARE NOT RESPONSIVE. WITH NO WARNING THE BRAKES WILL NEED TO BE PUSHED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR TO STOP THE CAR. THIS WILL OCCUR FOR ANYWHERE FROM A DAY OR TWO TO A FEW WEEKS. SYMPTOMS WILL DISAPPEAR AND OCCUR ROUGHLY ONCE EVERY 2 OR 3 MONTHS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED AND HESITATED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V247000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V299000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND WHEN I WENT TO STOP AT THE NEXT STOP SIGN MY BRAKE PEDAL FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO GRAB THEN WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR CAUSING ME TO PASS THE STOP SIGN. THE NEXT TIME I TRIED TO STOP IT WAS FINE. THEN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER IT ONCE AGAIN DID THE SAME THING WHILE TRYING TO PARK AT THE GROCERY STORE CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT A CAR IN THE PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF ME. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WHEN I CRANKED IT BACK UP THE BRAKES WERE FINE. LEFT IT SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY A FEW DAYS AND NOW THE BRAKES ARE DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN AND WILL NOT FIX ITSELF AT ALL. I HAVE HAD TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR NOW, BECAUSE IT SCARES ME SO BAD AND I HAVE TO MAINTAIN A VERY LARGE DISTANCE FROM THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME. BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CAR, BUT THE DEALERSHIP CLOSED AND THERE IS NOT A DEALERSHIP NEAR ME THAT HONORS FIDELITY WARRANTY THAT I PAID $2000 FOR. CONTACTED MITSUBISHI AND THEY TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY YEAR MODEL FOR THE SAME ISSUE, IT DID NOT EFFECT MY CAR'S VIN NUMBER. THAT'S CRAP, IT IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS THE RECALL SAYS AND THEY WON'T FIX THE ISSUE. I CAN'T DRIVE IT THE 65 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT WILL HONOR THE FIDELITY WARRANTY, AND THE WARRANTY WON'T PAY FOR TOWING THAT FAR. THIS IS GOING TO BE AN EXPENSIVE FIX... WHAT CONCERNS ME MORE IS THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP, PAID $2000 FOR AN EXTENDED WARRANTY I CAN'T USE, AND I CAN'T GET THE CAR FIXED BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT (REASON WHY I BOUGHT THE WARRANTY). AT A LOSS!!! *TR
I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE APRIL 2013 AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AROUND 6 MONTHS AFTER. IT TAKES WAY TO LONG TO STOP, PINGING NOISE WHEN CLUTCH LETS OUT, AND AN AWFUL SCREAMING AIR SOUND AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKES ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S HOT OUTSIDE. TOOK IT TO THE ONLY MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP HERE IN TOWN AND WAS AN ESTIMATE OF $850 TO FIX THE MASTER CYLINDER, POWER BRAKE BOOSTERS, DE-GLAZE BRAKE PADS, AND TURN THE ROTORS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ALSO MITSUBISHI, BUT WAS TOLD BY BOTH MY VIN# WASN'T INCLUDED IN RECALL #05V299000 OR RECALL 05V247000. MY CAR ONLY HAD AROUND 36,000 MILES WHEN PURCHASED USED AND STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AROUND 45,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER OF THESE PARTS NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT NO PARTICULAR SPEED, THE BRAKES FAILED AND ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V299000(SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
IN NOVEMBER 2013 AFTER DRIVING IN RAINY CONDITIONS LEFT REAR EAGLE RSA FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. NO KNOWN CAUSE OF FAILURE OTHER THEN IT JUST BLEW OUT ALL OF THE SUDDEN. TIRE WAS REPLACED ABOUT A WEEK LATER WITH ANOTHER EAGLE RSA. LAST NIGHT (JANUARY 2014) WAS DRIVING IN SNOWY CONDITIONS AND THEN GOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN AGAIN THE TIRE BLOWS BUT THIS TIME THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF CAR BUT STILL THE REAR WHEEL. DURING THIS BLOW THE CAR SWERVED MOMENTARILY BUT I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND THEN I HEARD THE NOISE INDICATING IT HAD BLOWN. IN NEITHER CASE WAS THERE AN INDICATION ANYTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TIRE BEFORE IT BLEW INCLUDING THE TREAD DEPTH. BOTH TIRES HAD BEEN ON THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR (CAR WAS BOUGHT NOV/ DEC 2012 AND NEW TIRES WERE ON THE CAR WHEN BOUGHT) AND HAD LITTLE WEAR ON THE TREAD DEPTH WHEN THEY HAD BLOWN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AFTER A BUMP ON THE ROAD. INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. PEDAL NEEDED TO BE PUMPED A FEW TIMES TO GET BACK TO NORMAL. *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE REPEATEDLY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WOULD ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE BRAKES WERE CLEANED AND ADJUSTED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED AND THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO FAIL. THE CONTACT HAD TO INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN BRAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V299000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: MASTER CYLINDER). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
THE BRAKES LOST PRESSURE AND IT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR THE CAR TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AS I WAS MOVING VERY SLOWLY AT THE TIME AND THERE WAS NO-ONE IN FRONT OF ME, NOTHING AWFUL HAPPENED. AFTER THAT, THE BRAKES WERE FINE UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER. BECAUSE IT WAS SO QUICK AND SPORADIC I THOUGHT THAT PERHAPS I WAS IMAGINING IT! THEN IN 2011 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC BUT BY THE TIME I GOT TO HIM, THE PROBLEM HAD STOPPED, HE COULDN'T REPLICATE IT AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THEN ON NOVEMBER 30TH, 2012 IT HAPPENED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME I COULDN'T STOP AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND SAILED RIGHT THROUGH THE LIGHT COMING TO A HALT EVENTUALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT NO-ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND NO-ONE ELSE HAD STARTED MOVING IN THE OTHER DIRECTIONS. AT THAT POINT I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKING SYSTEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC. TO CUT A LONG STORY SHORT, HE EVENTUALLY CHECKED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ISSUED IN 2005 FOR MY MAKE, MODEL & YEAR FOR DEFECTIVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDERS (RECALL #SR-05-003). HE CALLED MITSUBISHI TO SEE IF I WAS COVERED AND FOUND OUT THAT MY VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED!! AT THAT POINT, THEY TOLD HIM I WOULD BE COVERED UNDER A "WARRANTY EXTENSION". I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MITSUBISHI DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS NEEDING A REPLACEMENT MASTER CYLINDER. THEY CONTACTED MITSUBISHI HEADQUARTERS AND I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THEY HAVE DECLINED MY REQUEST TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND HAVE THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED AT THEIR COST (AND NOW NO MENTION OF THIS "WARRANTY EXTENSION" THAT THEY TOLD MY MECHANIC). OBVIOUSLY MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED YEARS AGO - I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND FOR YEARS WITH A FAULTY BRAKING SYSTEM!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO BRAKING ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000. .... UPDATED 02-20-13 *BF THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THERE WAS RECALL FOR THIS FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. UPDATED 02/25/2013 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A SLIGHT DELAY BEFORE THE BRAKES ENGAGED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V299000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: MASTER CYLINDER) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE SEALS INSIDE THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES WERE TOO SOFT WHICH INCREASED THE BRAKING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS SYSTEM REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASING AGAIN CAUSING THE CONTACT TO BRAKING SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER STATED THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE CONTACT NOTICE A NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. 05V299000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: MASTER CYLINDER) AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
WAS DECREASING SPEED TO MAKE A COMPLETE STOP NOTICED IT TOOK LONGER THAN NORMAL TO FOR THE BRAKES TO KICK IN. DIDN'T FEEL ANY PRESSURE OF THE BRAKES AT FIRST ALMOST MAKING ME HIT THE CAR INFRONT OF ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH SHE TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE WENT OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND NO FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER NOR A REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER PRIOR TO THE MOST RECENT FAILURE AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED THREE TIMES PRIOR AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE HOWEVER NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V247000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,400.
I HAVE GOODYEAR EAGLE RS-A P35/45R18 TIRES ON MY ECLIPSE, THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT. AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO THE SIDEWALL SEPARATING FROM THE TREAD! I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL A MECHANIC AT MY WORK LOOKED AT MY OTHER FRONT TIRE AND SAW THAT IT WAS STARTING TO SEPARATE ALSO! THE TIRES STILL HAVE HALF OF THEIR TREAD LIFE REMAINING AND IT ALSO CAUSED FOR MY RIM TO BE SCRATCHED. IN ADDITION, IT WAS NOTED THAT AT SOME POINT THE OTHER FRONT TIRE IS GOING TO BLOW OUT SO AT THIS POINT MY CAR IS A TICKING TIME BOMB. *TR
BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY WHEN COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS AHEAD OF ME NOR IN THE INTERSECTION OR THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I CHECKED BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS NORMAL. MECHANIC SAID MASTER CYLINDER WAS BAD. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING OF POSSIBLE PROBLEMS, NOR ANY LIGHTS ON THE DASH AT OR AFTER THE TIME OF THE PROBLEM. AT PREVIOUS RED LIGHT, BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE WAS AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL 05V247000. HOWEVER, MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED 10/2005 SO WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. *TR
IN DECEMBER 2010, I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 30 MILES AND AS I WAS COMING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, I APPLIED MY BRAKES BUT THEY DID NOT WORK. MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS "SOFT", WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR, AND IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO STOP. HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID HITTING IT. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT MY BRAKES WERE FINE AND REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER WITH A NEW ONE. IN AUGUST OF 2011, I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I HAD DRIVEN 30 MILES TO HOME FROM WORK AND THEN RAN A FEW ERRANDS AROUND TOWN. AS I WAS HEADING HOME, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND FELT A JERK OR A POP AND THEN THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND I ONLY HAD MINIMAL BRAKING POWER. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE ABOUT 3 MILES TO MY SHOP AND HAD PROBLEMS STOPPING THE ENTIRE TIME. I DID HAVE MORE BRAKE POWER IF I PUMPED THE BRAKES PRIOR TO COMING TO A STOP. MY SHOP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT FOUND 2 RECALLS - THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I CALLED MITSUBISHI BUT THEY SAID THESE RECALLS DID NOT APPLY TO MY SPECIFIC VIN. MY SHOP SUGGESTED I BRING THE CAR BACK WHEN I HAD THE PROBLEM AGAIN OR TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC SAID IN ALL HIS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, HE HAS NEVER HAD TO CHANGE A MASTER CYLINDER ON A MITS EXCEPT FOR MINE. I DROVE A 1995 ECLIPSE FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS BEFORE THIS ONE AND NEVER HAD BRAKING ISSUES WITH IT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ALSO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED I BRING THE CAR BACK IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN SO THEY COULD TRY TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE WHEN THEY CAN EXPERIENCE IT FOR THEMSELVES. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AGAIN THE LAST FEWS DAY AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS BUT I BELIEVE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I'VE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 1 YEAR AND IT IS UPSETTING TO ME THAT TWICE IN THAT PAST YEAR I HAVE SUDDENLY FOUND MYSELF W/O BRAKES. I KNOW THIS VEHICLE WAS IN A FRONT END IMPACT ACCIDENT BEFORE I PURCHASED IT AND I WONDER IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WOULD EXTEND TO THE FLOOR MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE CONTACT NOTICED NHTSA CAMPAIGN 05V299000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION MASTER CYLINDER) RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE RECALL AND WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO BE DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 41,000.
TODAY, APRIL 21, 2011, I PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND MY KEY BROKE. THE METAL PART OF THE KEY HAD BROKEN OUT OF THE PLASTIC END. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. UPON INSPECTING BOTH SETS OF KEYS, I NOTICED THAT BOTH KEYS HAVE A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC STARTING FROM THE POSTERIOR LEFT CORNER BASE OF THE METAL END EXTENDING MID WAY INTO THE POSTERIOR PLASTIC PART. BOTH KEYS HAVE THE EXACT TYPE OF CRACK LOCATED IN THE SAME AREA CONSISTING OF THE SAME WIDTH AND PATTERN. NATURALLY, THE CRACK IN THE BROKEN KEY IS ALITTLE LONGER THEN THE OTHER KEY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW CONSIDERING THAT BOTH KEYS CONSIST OF THE SAME TYPE OF CRACKS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE KEYS AND I ALSO STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE KEY PARTS IN MY POSSESSION. I WENT TO A MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP IN SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA LATER THIS EVENING TO REPAIR ONE OF THE KEYS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE COUPE GT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE. ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND HE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5, 000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,589.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, SHE HEARD A LOUD, ABNORMAL NOISE. SHE THEN ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS HAD FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS. ON A LATER DATE WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 97,000.
I WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE WHERE MY AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. LATER UPON CALLING IN A AIRBAG SPECIALIST, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND FOUND THAT BOTH THE FRONT RIGHT AND FRONT LEFT AIRBAG SENSORS HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THIS WAS THEN BACKED UP BY THE MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP. I STILL SUFFER FROM MY HEAD INJURY TO THIS DAY. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW CAR WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES ON IT. THE TIRE TREAD HAS SEPARATED CAUSING THE CAR TO BE DISABLED WITH MY TEEN DRIVER DRIVING IT. THE GOODYEAR DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME NOW THAT THE TIRES HAVE NO WARRANTY ON THEM. WHY WOULD A DEALERSHIP SELL TIRES WITH NO WARRANTY? WHY WOULD GOODYEAR NOT PUT A WARRANTY ON SOME BRAND NEW TIRES? I CALLED THE AUTHORIZED TIRE DEALERSHIP AND HE TELLS ME I SHOULD HAVE BEEN HAPPY THAT THEY LASTED LONGER THAN 30,000 MILES. THIS IS A SHAM. THIS IS UNFAIR TO THE CONSUMER. *TR
I AM A CURRENT OWNER OF A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE GT WITH A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE LESS THAN 22,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AS OF TODAY AND RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN HEARING A NOISE COMING FROM MY TRANSMISSION WHILE I AM IN 'NEUTRAL.' I RECENTLY RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A 'PREVIOUS' RECALL SITUATION THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED. I QUESTIONED THE 'NOISE' AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE 'THROW-OUT' BEARING ON THE CLUTCH. I ASKED IF THE PART CAN BE REPLACED AND IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY 'USUALLY' REPLACED THE ENTIRE CLUTCH DUE TO THE BEARING CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY ITSELF. WHEN I ASKED WHY THE BEARING WAS NOT COVERED, I WAS TOLD IT WAS A 'WEARABLE' PART. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS CLUTCH REPLACEMENT COULD COST AT LEAST $1,000. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION-VEHICLES FOR OVER 13 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A 'CLUTCH' PROBLEM. THE PREVIOUS CARS I OWNED PRIOR TO THE ECLIPSE PURCHASE HAVE BEEN SOLD TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THEY ALSO HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CLUTCH. I CURRENTLY OWN A 20 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH ALMOST 200,000 MILES AND I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE CLUTCH IS A 'WEARABLE' PART, HOWEVER, I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM (COMPLAINT NUMBER: 10222679, 10224311, 10178777, 10173845, 10163231) AND I BELIEVE THAT A CLUTCH SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACING ALREADY IN A BRAND-NEW VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO E-MAILED MITSUBISHI OVER TWO WEEKS AGO FOR ANY INFORMATION AND/OR ASSISTANCE AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL BEING A CUSTOMER. I BELIEVE DUE TO MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ORIGIN, THAT THIS PART COULD BE 'FAULTY' AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE "NOISE" COMING FROM MY TRANSMISSION AND NO ASSISTANCE AND/OR INFORMATION FROM MITSUBISHI. AFTER THIS ORDEAL, I REFUSE TO EVER PURCHASE ANOTHER MITSUBISHI. *TR
4 MONTHS AGO I HAD THE SLAVE CYLINDER LEAK ONTO MY CLUTCH CAUSING THE CLUTCH TO GO OUT, THEY REPLACED IT BASICALLY TOLD ME I HAVE A NEW CLUTCH. SO RECENTLY I'VE BEEN GETTING ON THE FREEWAY IN 5TH 6TH GEAR AND THE CAR IS REVVING BUT NOT GOING, SO I WENT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER TOLD THEM WHAT'S UP AND WITHOUT EVEN DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM SAID I NEED A NEW CLUTCH, I THEN REMINDED THEM I JUST HAD IT REPLACED 4 MONTHS AGO THEY TRIED TO SAY IT WAS FOR SOMETHING ELSE WHEN IN FACT I REMEMBER HIM CLEARLY SAYING YOU GOT A BRAND NEW CLUTCH. ANYWAY I ASKED HOW MUCH TO FIX IT HE SAID $1,400.00 I THEN ASKED IS IT NORMAL TO HAVE IT GO OUT SO SOON BUT HE IS STILL TRYING TO CONVINCE ME THEY JUST REPLACED THE BEARINGS ON THE CLUTCH. THEN ASKED IF I DRIVE IT HARD. WELL I NEVER RACE IT I DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK THAT'S ABOUT IT, OH AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 16500 MILES ON IT. I THEN CALLED THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE WARRANTY THEY SAID ITS NOT COVERED , I DON'T KNOW IM SO MAD ABOUT THIS I LOVE THE CAR BUT HATE THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT! *TR
2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE SPUN 3 MAIN BEARINGS, HAS A WORN CLUTCH AT 28,000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER REPLACED THE CLUTCH IN MY '88 MAZDA, WHICH CURRENTLY HAS 190,000 MILES ON IT OR ANY OF THE PREVIOUS MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES I HAVE OWNED. MITSUBISHI REPS DENIED THE WARRANTY DUE TO AFTERMARKET PART (COLD AIR INTAKE) THE CLUTCH BEING WORN AND FROM WHAT THEY CLAIM AS "SPIRITED DRIVING." I DID NOT PAY $30,000 FOR A CAR TO TAKE OUT AND DRIVE IT LIKE A MANIAC. THIS IS A CAR THAT I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF AND CHANGE OIL EVERY 3,000 MILES RELIGIOUSLY, AND HAVE IT SERVICED REGULARLY. I HAD A DISPUTE HEARING ON THIS MATTER AND THAT WAS A JOKE, YOU BETTER HAVE SOMEONE TO GO WITH YOU THAT HAS IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF ENGINES AND COLD AIR INTAKES. I KNOW THAT THE COLD AIR INTAKE DOES NOT CHANGE THE PARAMETERS OF THE ENGINE SET BY THE MANUFACTURER, SINCE I HAD CONTACTED THE COMPANY THAT DEVELOPED THE INTAKE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MITSUBISHI IN MY LIFE. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WARRANTIES OR THEIR PRODUCTS. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A MITSUBISHI VEHICLE TO ANYBODY. I WILL ALSO NOT RECOMMEND THE DEALERSHIP TO ANYONE EITHER. THEY WAS OF NO HELP TO ME WHAT SO EVER. *TR
I WAS COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT AND MY BRAKES GAVE OUT THEY WENT ALL THE WAY 2 THE GROUND, NO PRESSURE NOTHING ,THEY WOULD JUST GO 2 THE GROUND, AND THEN MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY DASH BOARD ,ON TOP OF ALL OF IT I ALMOST GOT HIT BY A PLOW,I COULD HAVE DIED TONIGHT BECAUSE OF MY BRAKES IN MY 06 ECLIPSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE. THE HORN WILL SOUND WITHOUT WARNING. OCCASIONALLY, THE HORN WILL NOT SOUND WHEN PRESSED. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE HORN FROM BLOWING WAS TO REMOVE THE FUSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOUR TIMES BY REPLACING THE HORNS TWICE AND PERFORMING MAINTENANCE TO THE AIR BAG, YET THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE CONTACT HAS A REPAIR INVOICE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.*AK
WATER LEAKS FROM SUNROOF (WHICH I DO NOT USE) SWITCH, AND FROM SIDE AIRBAGS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO SELLING DEALERSHIP WITH NO RESULTS. I THEN REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THAT IT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT RESULTED FROM A BAD DRAINAGE ALONG THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE( BESIDE FRONT WINDSHIELD). *JB
CLUTCH WORE OFF AT 33000 MILES AND NOT EVEN ONE YEAR. I'VE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL FOR TEN YEARS AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE CLUTCH ON MY 97 NISSAN TRUCK. I STILL HAVE THE OLD CAR WITHOUT EVER HAVING TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH AND NOW A NEW 2006 ECLIPSE BURN OUT AFTER LESS THAN A YEAR. DEALER SAID THAT IT ISN'T COVERED BY WARRANTY BECAUSE ITS WEARABLE BUT I THINK IT SHOULD BE PART OF THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY FOR 100000 OR TEN YEARS. *JB
RE MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE, 2006, 8,000+ MILES. WITH NO PRIOR SIGNS OR ODORS, RPMS FLUCTUATED IN 5TH GEAR AT 65 MPH REDUCED TO 30 MPH. VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THEN WOULD NOT PROCEED IN GEAR. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND TOLD CLUTCH WAS WORN; PARTS WERE REPLACED. FAILURE WAS BLAMED ON DRIVER, BUT THERE IS REASON TO BELIEVE THE CLUTCH WAS FAULTY FROM START. *NM
I HAVE OWNED MY CAR FOR A YEAR & HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF ISSUES. IT IS SCARY THAT A CAR THAT IS ONLY A YEAR OLD WOULD HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS. MY BRAKES STARTED SQEAKING AFTER ABOUT THREE MONTHS. I PLAN ON TAKING IT IN SOON BUT IT IF 30 MINUTES AWAY & TRYING TO FIT GOING TO THE SHOP INTO MY SCHEDULE IS VERY DIFFICULT. *NM
I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE PADS ON MY 2006 ECLIPSE GT REPLACED TWICE (I.E. 3RD SET OF PADS). EACH TIME A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL BEGINS A MONTH OR SO AFTER BEING INSTALLED AND PROGRESSIVELY GETS WORSE. I NOW HAVE JUST UNDER 8,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THE THIRD SET OF PADS IS BEGINNING TO SQUEAL. AFTER REPLACING THE FIRST TWO SETS OF PADS, MITSUBISHI NOW SAYS THAT THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION. I HAVE NEVER HAD BRAKE PADS THAT SQUEALED CONSTANTLY. *NM
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THE BRAKES HAS BEEN MAKING NOISES. WE TOOK IT ONCE WHEN WE HAD ABOUT 6000 MILES ON THERE TO THE MITSUBISHI DEALER AND THEY REPLACED IT WITH (UPDATED BRAKE PADS) JUST 5000 MILES LATER THE NOISE HAS COME BACK. *NM
I HAVE A 2006 ECLIPSE GT, ITS ONLY 7 MONTHS OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON IT. IM DRIVING ALONG AND I SHIFT GEARS AND I HEARD IT REV UP BEFORE IT CAUGHT AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE. NONE THE LESS, I FIND OUT ITS THE CLUTCH GOING OUT ALREADY. AND THE DEALERSHIP WONT REPLACE IT BECAUSE ITS A WEAR ITEM... BUT WHAT CLUTCH GOES OUT IN LESS THAN 10,000 MILES WHEN THE CAR ISN'T DRIVEN LIKE A RACE CAR, BUT NORMAL. *NM
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT FROM JULY 3, 2006 AND HAD TO WAIT FOR IT TO BE FIXED AS OF TODAY STILL WAITING JULY 18, 2006 - LOST TWO WEEKS VACATION TIME, $120 ON RENTALS ($50 A DAY), PAID 1/2 MONTH INSURANCE AND CAR PAYMENT FOR NO REASON.........ETC. *NM
I WAS DRIVING ON I 95 IN FLORIDA FOR ABOUT 12 MILES WHEN MY REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. APPARENTLY WHAT HAPPENED WAS THE SIDE WALLS OF THE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE TREAD. THIS WAS A NEW 2006 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA 17 INCH TIRES. THE TIRE HAD ONLY 6700 MILES. THANK GOD IT WAS MY REAR TIRE AND NOT MY FRONT, BECAUSE ACTUALLY NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME. IF IT WAS MY FRONT I WOULD NOT BE HERE WRITING THIS. WHEN I WENT TO GOODYEAR THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A BLOW OUT. IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BLOW OUT THERE WOULD BE NO MORE TIRE. THE TREAD WAS STILL INTACT, BUT THE SIDE WALL JUST SEPARATED. MANY PEOPLE NOW HAVE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A TIRE DEFECT AND NOT A BLOW OUT. GOODYEAR GAVE ME A NEW TIRE AT A DISCOUNT. *JB
I'VE HAD MY CAR (MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 2006-MANUAL TRANSMISSION) FOR JUST 11K MILES, I NOTICED A VIBRATION IN THE BRAKES. I TOOK THE CAR TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, AND I WAS TOLD IT HAS A ROTOR PROBLEM IN THE REAR, AND THEY NEED POLISHING, BUT THE BRAKE PADS ARE FINE. ALSO, I'M BEING TOLD THAT THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR IT TO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AT THIS STAGE OF THE CAR'S LIFE CYCLE. I'M ALSO PUZZLED AS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING SO SOON. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH ON THIS SUBJECT ON THE INTERNET, AND IT APPEARS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I THINK THIS IS INDEED A FACTORY DEFECT. *JB
