Summary

The driver side, rear, trailing arm broke away from the vehicles frame due to “frame rot” while driving. The vehicle became extremely dangerous to drive. Toyota has since declined to help. They said they notified us via mail of a customer service campaign addressing the premature rust issue, but we never learned of the program and lawsuit until after the frame broke and I almost crashed. Later I saw the broken arm/frame under the vehicle. This frame failure can potentially be a catastrophic and deadly event. I opened an insurance claim and it was denied and I was referred back to Toyota. Our vehicle has been factory maintained it’s entire life. No service advisors ever mentioned a possible problem to my family and I. I recently spoke to the Toyota service manager at Parker Toyota in Couer d Alene Idaho and his master technicians have seen the same failure that occurred on our vehicle. This is extremely dangerous.

I was on the freeway driving and out of nowhere the body started swaying and bobbing with no control. Was informed by the tow truck driver that i could have rolled the vehicle easily and the consequences would have been serious. The frame is so rusted out that the tie rod and sway bar assembly are completely detached from the frame and hanging loose. Upon further inspection at the auto repair garage there are rusting issues throughout the frame. The frame needs complete replacement.

Toyota completed corrosion resistant compound 2 years ago following inspection per limited service campaign H0F, saying issue resolved to extent of warranty with known rust issue for this year and model. Now another independent garage saying we never should have been driving, much less hauling 5000 lb. trailer. Only warning was odd sound from under carriage.

WE NEED HELP IN GETTING TOYOTA MOTORS, INC. TO HONOR THE WARRANTY PROGRAM COVERING PREMATURE EXCESSIVE RUST CORROSION OF CERTAIN TOYOTA MODEL FRAMES. IN MID-OCTOBER 2018 WE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA MOTORS, INC., OF THE FOLLOWING: 'WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT NOTIFICATION ' ZH8 AND LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN ' HOF.' THE ZH8 AND HOF WERE INSTITUTED AS A RESULT OF A DETERMINATION THAT THE FRAMES ON CERTAIN TOYOTA VEHICLES ARE PRONE TO 'EXCESSIVE, PREMATURE RUST CORROSION BECAUSE THE FRAMES WERE NOT PROPERLY PREPARED AND TREATED AGAINST RUST CORROSION WHEN THEY WERE MANUFACTURED.' EXCESSIVE RUST CORROSION ON MY SUV 'COMPROMISES THE VEHICLES' SAFETY, STABILITY, AND CRASH-WORTHINESS BECAUSE IMPORTANT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, ENGINE MOUNTS, TRANSMISSION MOUNTS, AND BODY MOUNTS ANCHOR TO THE VEHICLES' FRAMES'. BY DRIVING MY HIGH END SUV, I WILL BE PUTTING MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AT RISK. ON 10/25/2018: WE TOOK OUR SUV TO JIM COLEMAN TOYOTA IN BETHESDA, MD FOR FRAME INSPECTION. THE ATTACHED WORK ORDER SHOWS: 'INSPECTED AND FOUND NO PERFORATION. ELIGIBLE FOR CRC SPRAY ' CUSTOMER WILL RETURN AT A LATER DATE FOR FRAME CRC APPLICATION.' IT WAS DURING THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT JIM COLEMAN ONLY HAD ONE PERSON PERFORMING THIS WORK. AND THAT WE HAD TWO YEARS FROM OCTOBER 2018 TO HAVE THE WORK PERFORMED BY TOYOTA AT NO CHARGE. ON MONDAY MARCH 10, 2019, WE LEFT OUR SUV WITH THE TOYOTA DEALER SO THAT THE HOF WORK COULD BE PERFORMED. WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER AT 5:05PM ON FRIDAY 03/15/2019 INFORMING US THAT (A) OUR SUV HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED SINCE THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (B) THAT THERE ARE LARGE HOLES IN THE FRAME AND (C) NO WORK WOULD BE PERFORMED SINCE THE HOF HAD ENDED IN JANUARY 2019. WE PAID OVER $60,000.00 FOR OUR TOYOTA SUV NOT MANY YEARS AGO. WE LITERALLY RECEIVED A DIFFERENT ANSWER REGARDING THE CRC AND HOF EACH TIME WE CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS

IN MARCH 2016, I HAD - FOR THE FIRST TIME - THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, BRAKE, AND ABS LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL COME ON... ALL 4 ON AT ONCE. THEN AGAIN, TODAY, I HAD THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON. A KNOWN ISSUE FOR BOTH SEQUOIA AND TUNDRA MODELS, OWNERS HAVE TRIED TO GET A RECALL. MANY THOUGHTS ONLINE ABOUT WHAT CAUSES THIS; IT APPEARS IT'S A FAULTY SKID CONTROL UNIT (ECU UNIT). SAYS THE ECU WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO A "SAFE" MODE AND LIMIT OUTPUT POWER AND ACCELERATION, UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED. I EXPERIENCED THIS TODAY AFTER THE LIGHTS CAME ON. OTHERS ONLINE SAY MIGHT BE A BAD BRAKE FLUID SENSOR, BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH OR OXYGEN SENSOR. HOWEVER, OVERWHELMINGLY IT SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY ECU' AND THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ELECTRONIC PART ($2,300)!

MY SON WAS NOT READY TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT CLOSED. LATER HE TRIED TO EXIT THE JEEP AND EVERY TIME HE TRIED TO OPEN THE JEEP DOOR, THE DOOR WOULD LOCK AND THE ALARM WHO OFF. HE DID THIS QUITE A FEW TIME AND WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE JEEP. HE HAD TO CALL SOMEONE ON HIS CELLPHONE TO HIS AID. THIS WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE. WHY DID THIS HAPPENED? IS THIS A DEFECT? WHEN TAKING TURNS AT MILD ACCELERATION THE SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT WILL FLASH AND THE VEHICLE LOSES ACCELERATION. THIS GENERALLY HAPPENS WHEN TAKING A LEFT TURN FROM STOP WHILE ENTERING TRAFFIC FROM A SIDE STREET ONTO A MAIN ROAD. GENERALLY AT THE INTERSECTIONS THERE ARE A SMALL GRADE CHANGE FOR WATER DRAINAGE, THIS WILL CAUSE UNEVEN SURFACE WHEN DRIVING ACROSS AND CAUSE A MINOR ROCKING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS HAS PRODUCED DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHERE THE LOSS OF ACCELERATION LEAVES THE VEHICLE IN THE ONCOMING LANE LONGER THAN DESIRED AND COULD EASILY RESULT IN A SERIOUS COLLISION. I HAVE FOUND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON MULTIPLE FORUMS THAT HAVE REFERENCES THE CAUSE BEING ASSOCIATED WITH ABS SENSOR OR YAW SENSORS. WOULD LOVE FOR THIS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND A SOLUTION PROVIDED.

VSC TRAC ON/OFF BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHTS APPEAR WHILE DRIVING IN THE 35-45MPH RANGE. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE (FIRM OR LIGHT BRAKE PRESSURE), THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE, AS IF IT IS ACTIVATING THE ABS, WHICH TAKES A LITTLE LONGER TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT WOULD'VE BEEN NICE IF TOYOTA CREATED A VSC TRAC ON/OFF SWITCH (AT THIS RATE, I MAY HAVE TO CREATE MY OWN). SOME WEBSITES MENTION DIRTY SENSORS (SPEED SENSORS), SOME MENTION POSSIBLE FAULTY YAW RATE SENSOR (LEVEL WARNING SWITCH, LOCATED IN THE CENTER CONSOLE), STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MAY NEED ADJUSTING. WHO KNOWS, BUT THIS WOULD BE A DEFINITE ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I'M SURPRISED THIS HASN'T BEEN CONSIDERED A RECALL? HTTP://WW2.JUSTANSWER.COM/UPLOADS/TS/TSMODIE/2012-10-29_191900_1.GIF

THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT PROCEED WITH A REPAIR BECAUSE NHTSA HAD TO AGREE TO A PLAN TO INITIATE A RECALL AND REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD PERFORM A TEMPORARY WELD ON THE FRAME UNTIL TOYOTA COULD ISSUE A RECALL WITH A FINAL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TOYOTA SEQUOIA (BALL JOINTS RECALL) WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I-5 NORTHBOUND JUST AFTER THE BRIDGE THAT GOES OVER THE SACRAMENTO RIVER I WAS ON THE BYPASS/COSWAY BRIDGE DRIVING IN THE #1 (OF 2) LANE GOING 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY MY FRONT END DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY VEHICLE DROPPED COMPLETELY AND I WAS SKIDDING ON COMPLETE METAL, I HAD NO BREAKS AND CONTINUED TO SKID FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER, AND STEERED TO MY TO MY RIGHT PASSING THE #2 LANE GOING UP AGAINST THE EDGE OF THE RIGHT SIDE ON THE BRIDGE. I WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED. I COULDN'T OPEN MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR DUE THE TRAFFIC RIGHT UP AGAINST ME. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY INSURANCE ROAD-SIDE ASSISTANCE WHO DISPATCHED A TOW TRUCK. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE LOCATION, THE TOW TRUCK REQUIRED THE ASSISTANCE OF HIGHWAY PATROL. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER IMMEDIATELY KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND SAID TOYOTAS WERE KNOWN FROM THE UPPER/LOWER BALL JOINTS BREAKING ON THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VALLEY TIRE SERVICE SHOP. THE SERVICE GUY THERE ALSO KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS IN FACT A RECALL. HOWEVER, THE PART HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED IN 2009. AFTER HAVING REVIEWED MANY BLOGS ON LINE ABOUT THIS BEING A COMMON ISSUE WITH TOYOTA SEQUOIAS (SOME MORE THAN ONCE), I WAS EXTREMELY CONCERNED. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED AND FEAR DRIVING THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT THE DEFECTIVE PART HAVING ALREADY BEEN REPLACED IS STILL DEFECTIVE. I WILL NOT TRUST ANOTHER PART BEING REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO. THE CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 10/04/2017*JS

THE FRAME, REAR AXLE, SUSPENSION, BRAKE LINES COMPONENTS ARE SEVERELY RUSTED IN PARTICULAR THE FRAME WHERE IT IS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THESE FRAMES SUFFER FROM THE SAME ISSUE AS OTHER TOYOTA TRUCKS WHERE TOYOTA REPLACED THE FRAMES. THIS RUST CONDITION MAKES THESE VEHICLES UNSAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES BEFORE PEOPLE ARE HURT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLES NEW IN 2006 AND MAINTAINED IT WELL. I ADDRESSED THE EXTERNAL RUST BUT CAN NOT PREVENT THE INTERNAL RUST. THE FRAMES NEED TO BE REPLACED OR THE VEHICLE BROUGHT BACK AND DISPOSED OF.

SRS AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR 8YEARS DURING DRIVING. I'VE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO GET CHECK AT SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS & THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. FINALLY TOOK IT TO GET CHECK & ITS DISCOVER IT'S THE CONTROL MODULE, THE PROGRAMMING WAS DEAD. CHECKED VIN & THERE'S A RECALL STATUS WAITING TO GET APPROVED FOR THE CONTROL MODULE AS OF FEBRUARY 2016. IT STATES IT WAS TO BE DETERMINE BY SEPTEMBER 2016. I'M NOW IN A WAITING TO GET A REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO I NEED A VEHICLE & HAVE TO PAY FOR FIXING. THE DISTURBING ISSUE IS THAT I WAS DRIVING WITH A DEFECTED CONTROL MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS. NEED THIS RECALL TO HAPPEN QUICK FOR OTHERS VEHICLE OWNERS.

FRAME HAS RUST CORROSION CAUSING 18 INCH PERFORATED HOLE IN FRONT FRAME OF CAR. THIS IS SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS WARRANTED A RECALL OF THE TOYOTA TUNDRA WHICH USES THE SAME FRAME. THE CAR HAS BEEN DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE RUST CORROSION ON THE FRAME. THIS MUST BE DUE TO POOR QUALITY MATERIAL AND COATING OF THE ORIGINAL FRAME. THROUGH RESEARCH APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN SEQUOIA THAT ARE IN AREAS DEALING WITH ROAD SALT. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE THIS MODEL ALONG WITH THE TUNDRA. THE CAR IS PARKED OUTSIDE DRIVEWAY AND MOSTLY LOCAL DRIVING.

SEVERE FRAME CORROSION, 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA: I WAS UNAWARE OF THE "COLD WEATHER STATES" FRAME CORROSION PROBLEM WITH TOYOTAS (AND RECALLS OF OLDER SEQUOIAS AND OTHER TOYOTA TRUCKS) UNTIL I TOOK MY '06 SEQUOIA TO MY LOCAL DEALER FOR AN AIRBAG RECALL REPLACEMENT AND DIAGNOSIS OF WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A MINOR FRONT END RATTLE. WHEN THEY RAISED IT ON THE LIFT, THEY SAID THE VEHICLE BEHAVED IMPROPERLY AND THEY WERE ALARMED. THAT IS WHEN THEY DISCOVERED THE LARGE, RUSTED HOLE IN THE FRAME! WHAT A SHOCK IT WAS WHEN THEY TOLD ME, AND THEN, TO BE ADVISED THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE! IF I HAD NOT TAKEN IT IN FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL, MY FAMILY AND I COULD BE DEAD RIGHT NOW, IF CONDITIONS HAD BEEN JUST SO. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE THAT TOYOTA IS PUTTING PEOPLES' LIVES IN DANGER BY NOT RECALLING ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS FRAME AND STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT. ARE THEY WAITING FOR A DEATH(S) TO OCCUR BEFORE THEY ARE FORCED TO RECALL? THEY CERTAINLY KNOW THAT OTHER NON-RECALLED MODELS OF SEQUOIA HAVE FRAME ROT. PRESENTLY, MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IS WAITING FOR APPROVAL OR DISAPPROVAL TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. I AM WARY AND LEFT IN CONSTANT WORRY IF TOYOTA WILL HELP, BASED ON THE REPORTS OF OTHER PEOPLES' EXPERIENCES WHOSE VEHICLES WERE NOT RECALLED YET. I AM FACED WITH IT BEING A TOTAL LOSS IF TOYOTA DOES NOT CHOOSE TO DO THE RIGHT THING. (THIS IS THEIR FAULT. THEY SHOULD FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. PERIOD.) I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF ITS REPORTED RELIABILITY. I HAVE BEEN A 3 TIMES LOYAL CUSTOMER TO TOYOTA AND AM IN UTTER DISBELIEF HOW I HAVE BEEN MISLED. PLEASE PUSH TO HAVE TOYOTA RECALL ALL TOYOTA SEQUOIAS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS FRAME SO THAT NOBODY ELSE HAS TO GO THROUGH THIS UNIMAGINABLE STRESS, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, BEFORE SOMEONE DIES OR IS SEVERELY INJURED. WILL MY REPORT BE THE FINAL REPORT THAT PROMPTS A RECALL OR THIS DEATH TRAP? I HOPE SO.

2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW.IN 2015 FRAME HAS LOTS OF RUST. WHEN WE WENT FOR SERVICING, TOYOTA DEALER SAID, NOT TO WASTE ANY MONEY FOR FLUID EXCHANGES, LIKE POWER STEERING FLUID, TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE, BECAUSE CAR MAY NOT PASS INSPECTION, BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST. WE ARE SCARED TO DRIVE, WHETHER SPARE TIRE, REAR BRAKES FAILING, OTHER COMPONENTS FALLING OFF CAUSING DAMAGE TO CAR AND PEOPLE DRIVING BEHIND . WE SEE SEQUOIAS FROM 2000 TO 2004 ARE RECALLED FOR NEW FRAME INSTALLATION BECAUSE OF RUST PROBLEMS. WE SINCERELY HOPE, TOYOTA WILL RECALL 2006 SEQUOIAS ALSO. WE BELIEVED IN TOYOTA REPUTATION, FOR QUALITY AND RELIABILITY. WE ARE REALLY VERY DISAPPOINTED. MY FAMILY HAS 3 TOYOTAS AND EXPECTING TO BUY 2 MORE SOON. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VSC OFF LIGHT, AND VSC TRAC LIGHT ALL CAME ON AT ONCE, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING, AND I EXPERIENCED A DRAMATIC DECREASE IN VEHICLE POWER. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME NOTICING A DRASTIC CHANGE IN ACCELERATION AS THE SEQUOIA WOULD NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY; IT WOULD ACCELERATE AT A SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED RATE, TOPPING OUT AT 35MPH ON THE FLATS AND 16 MPH ON AN INCLINE, IN ADDITION, DURING START UP, THE ENGINE MAKES A HIGH-PITCH VACUUM NOISE, WHICH DROPS OFF AND NORMAL ENGINE SOUND RETURNS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED; ERROR CODES P2440, P441 AND P444 ARE ALL PRESENT INDICATING A FAILURE OF THE AIR INJECTION PUMP. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ON TOYOTA SEQUOIAS AND TUNDRAS; HOWEVER, TOYOTA HAS ONLY ACKNOWLEDGED IT ON THE 07-10 SEQUOIA BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS AND 150,000K MILES FOR THIS PART. IT IS CLEAR FROM OTHER POSTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND OTHERS THAT THIS PROBLEM ALSO EXISTS WITH THE 2004-07 SEQUOIAS AS WELL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED, OR WORSE YET KILLED.

MY VEHICLE IS THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN ARIZONA A FEW YEARS AGO, AND I LIVE IN SAN DIEGO, CA. I HAVE A VACATION HOME IN BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MEXICO. I KEEP THE TOYOTA SEQUOIA AT THAT HOME IN MEXICO, ABOUT 900 MILES FROM CALIFORNIA. THERE IS A TOYOTA DEALER IN SAN JOSE DEL CABO WHO COULD MAKE THE REPAIR. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE 1800 MILES ROUND TRIP TO THE USA IN ORDER TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE IN THE USA. TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO ALLOW ITS DEALER IN SAN JOSE DEL CABO TO MAKE THE REPAIR. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOU TO REQUIRE TOYOTA TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE PURCHASED IN THE UNITED STATES BY A U.S. CITIZEN IN MEXICO.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING PASSENGER AIRBAGS DUE TO FAULTY TAKATA AIRBAG IN WHICH METAL FRAGMENTS MAY DEPLOY WITH THE AIR BAG. OUR VEHICLE IS ONE OF THE RECALLED VEHICLES AND I RECEIVED NOTICE IN JUNE/JULY 2015 WITH A RECOMMENDATION NOT TO HAVE ANY PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. IT IS NOW OCT. AND NO REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS HAVE YET BEEN MADE AVAILABLE. THIS IS OUR PRIMARY VEHICLE AND MONTHS HAVE PASSED WITHOUT RESOLUTION OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS IS UNSATISFACTORY AND MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM IN A SHORTER AMOUNT OF TIME.

AFTER MAKING NUMEROUS CALLS ABOUT FOLLOWUP, NO SOLUTION WAS FORTHCOMING. NO TIMELINE WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR (THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY)!!! THAT WAS ALMOST 4 MO. AGO AND STILL NO INFO. FROM TOYOTA. I CALLED TOYOTA AGAIN TODAY (10/6/2015) AND THE STORY WAS THE SAME EXCEPT A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE DID STATE THE AIR BAG COULD POSSIBLY ACTIVATE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT IMPACT. TOYOTA STATED IN THEIR RECALL THAT THE SHRAPNEL COULD CAUSE FATAL INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS!!!! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT IS BEING DONE TO PROTECT THE CITIZENS WHO OWN THESE POTENTIAL DEATH TRAPS????? THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR MONTHS BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE!!!! I DID READ THAT TOYOTA WAS OFFERING 35$ FOR RENTAL CAR SERVICES BUT NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT THAT IN MY RECALL LETTER. AND THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAD SUED TOYOTA OVER THIS. BUT WHAT ABOUT US, THE OWNERS OF THESE POTENTIAL TIME BOMBS??? WHO'S HELPING US???????? THANK YOU *TR

IN EARLY AUGUST I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA ABOUT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG BEING UNSAFE IN OUR 2006 SEQUOIA. APPARENTLY THIS RECALL HAS BEEN IN EFFECT SINCE JUNE 2015 SO I FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE THAT WE WEREN'T NOTIFIED UNTIL EARLY AUGUST. THE RECALL NOTICE RECOMMENDS THAT WE DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL TOYOTA HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, TOYOTA IS TAKING AN EXCESSIVELY LONG TIME TO PROVIDE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR. IT IS NOW AUGUST 31 AND THERE IS STILL NO DEFINITIVE DATE SET FOR REPAIRING THE PROBLEM. FURTHER, TOYOTA IS PROVIDING ONLY UP TO $35/DAY REIMBURSEMENT FOR A LOANER VEHICLE -- WHICH COVERS ONLY A THIRD TO HALF OF WHAT IT COSTS TO RENT A VEHICLE OF COMPARABLE SIZE TO OUR SEQUOIA. THIS IS UNFAIR AND A BIG INCONVENIENCE TO OUR FAMILY. I UNDERSTAND THAT PARTS AVAILABILITY CAN TAKE TIME - BUT AT LEAST PROVIDE US WITH A COMPARABLE REPLACEMENT CAR AT NO CHARGE.

I AM PART OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG RECALL FOR 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS. AS A CONSUMER, I HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG FOR ALMOST 12 MONTHS AND I AM JUST NOW RECEIVING A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ABOUT IT. ALL THE LETTER SAYS IS THAT TOYOTA IS TRYING TO FIND PARTS WITH NO FURTHER INFORMATION OR DATE WHEN THE AIRBAG WILL BE REPLACED. IN THE MEANTIME, TOYOTA ASKS ME NOT TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS NEGLIGENTLY STRETCHED THE RECALL NOTICE LONG PAST WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DISCOVERED. TOYOTA STILL DOES NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE RECALL LETTER SETS NO TIMETABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE REMEDY IS WOEFULLY INADEQUATE TO NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I KNOW THE US GOVERNMENT HAS SUED OVER THIS AIRBAG ISSUE. WHEN DOES THE ACTUAL CONSUMER BENEFIT FROM A SUITABLE REMEDY?

AIR PUMP THAT CUTS ON FOR ONE MINUTE WHEN CAR IS FIRST STARTED, PUSHES AIR INTO STARTING SYSTEM TO INSURE ALL GAS IS BURNED COMPLETELY. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND TOLD BY DEALER A LITTLE PLASTIC FAN BLADE BREAKS INTO PCS. AND WERE STUCK IN VALVES MAKING CAR GO INTO "LIMP MODE". WHEN THIS HAPPENED CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE UP A HILL OR GO OVER 45 MPH. DEALER QUOTED $3500.00 AND SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TO THESE LITTLE PLASTIC FAN BLADES. I HAVE READ THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY IN THE TACOMA TRUCK LINE. I THINK DEALER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX THESE NO MATTER HOW MANY MILES ON CAR OR UP TO 10 YEARS. THEY SHOULD NOT BE MADE OF PLASTIC BEING SO CLOSE TO ALL THE HEAT IN AREA OF AIR PUMP. ME AND MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEING ON INTERSTATE WHERE THE NEED TO GO OVER 45 MPH IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY OR GET REAR ENDED. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY LOOKING AT THE TACOMA WEB SITE, TOYOTA IS DRAGGING THEIR FEET, COVERING SOME PEOPLE AND I READ COVERING CARS IN CANADA BUT NOT IN USA. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO COVER COST. MOST OF THE COST IS LABOR FOR THIS 5 BUCK PLASTIC FAN BLADE.HIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE TO PAY 3500.00 BUCKS FOR A BAD DESIGN. *TR

I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM MY FRONT RIGHT WHEEL AREA WHEN I WOULD GO OVER A BUMP. EVEN WHEN I WAS GOING VERY SLOW OVER A SPEED BUMP. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL REPAIR GARAGE AND HE TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE MY STRUT WAS STICKING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE HIM REPLACE MY FRONT STRUTS. WHEN I RETURNED ON 4/26/13 HE TOLD ME THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT RIGHT STRUT WAS BROKEN OFF & THAT MY FRONT LEFT STRUT HAD A CRACK IN IT & WOULD HAVE BROKEN. HE KEPT THE PART & SHOWED ME WHERE IT WAS BROKEN & HOW IT GOES TOGETHER. HE SAID IT WAS ONLY THE WEIGHT THAT WAS HOLDING IT ON & HE COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT IT DID NOT SLIDE OFF. THEY CHECK TO SEE IF THIS WAS PART OF A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE & DID NOT FIND ONE. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I REPORT IT BECAUSE IT WAS DANGEROUS & VERY RARE THAT BOTH STRUTS WOULD BE EFFECTED. ONE BROKEN & ONE CRACKED READY TO BRAKE. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF THERE IS ANY RECALL ON THE TOYOTA SEQUOIA STRUTS. *TR

I BOUGHT MY 2006 SEQUOIA USED FROM A DEALER. SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION & THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE IT & EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE FINE WITH THE BRAKES. IT IS STILL HAPPENING. MY REAR WIPER, WINDOW & DEFROST SYSTEM HAVE FAILED SEVERAL TIMES. AT FIRST I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THE WINDOW MUST NOT HAVE BEEN UP THE WHOLE WAY & IT WAS NOW WORKING. IT CONTINUED TO GO IN AND OUT, BUT NOW THEY HAVE FAILED COMPLETELY. . I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSES & THEY ARE FINE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THEY DO NOT SEE ANYTHING IMMEDIATELY WRONG WITH IT AND WILL NEED TO INVESTIGATE IT FURTHER, BUT THAT WILL COST A LOT MORE. I SAW SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS SO I THOUGHT I SHOULD ADD MY EXPERIENCE TO THE LIST. *TR

Summary

MY TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS A 2006 4X4 AND HAS EXCESSIVE FRAME RUST AT THE WELD SEEMS AND ALL OVER THE REAR AXLE HOUSING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT TOYOTA HAS STARTED TO RECALL AND REPLACE THESE FRAMES THAT ARE RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THIS RUST AT THE FRAME WELD AND THAT SNOW AND ROAD SALT AND ICE MELTER ARE CAUSING MY FRAME TO RUST FROM THE INSIDE OUT. MY SEQUOIA WAS ORIGINALLY LICENSED IN KANSAS AND THEY USE HEAVY ROAD SALT. I LIVE IN COLORADO AND THEY HAVE A HEAVY USE OF MAG CHLORIDE, WHICH IS A MAJOR RUST FACTOR. THE TOYOTA FRAME LOOKS LIKE IT WAS NEVER PROPERLY TREATED TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF RUSTING. I WOULD LIKE MY FRAME TO ALSO BE REPLACED AND COVERED BY TOYOTA UNDER THIS RECALL. AFTER PUTTING GAS IN THE VEHICLE, I PULLED AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP SIGN BEFORE ENTERING THE MAIN THOROUGHFARE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SO HARD TO DEPRESS THAT I ALMOST HAD TO STAND ON IT TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, AND NEARLY WAS UNABLE TO BEFORE PLOWING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE "TRAC OFF", "VSC TRAC", AND BRAKE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WERE ALL ILLUMINATED. IT WAS A REAL PANIC SITUATION BECAUSE IT WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED AND MY WIFE AND 2 YOUNG DAUGHTERS WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. I AM AN 20 YEAR + ASE MASTER AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND VISUALLY CHECKED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AS WELL AS I COULD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SAW NO OBVIOUS CAUSE FOR THE ISSUE. THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET THE WARNING LIGHTS OFF AND THE BRAKES TO WORK WAS TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE IGNITION. AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE WENT THE REST OF THE DAY (140 MILES) WITH NO PROBLEM. I AM NOW AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE AND KIDS DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL I FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. I DO SEE WHERE THERE ARE A FEW SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, AND A COUPLE THAT ARE PRETTY MUCH IDENTICAL TO MINE. THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ONLY 52,000+ MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OF KILLED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE SOME KIND OF SAFETY RECALL ISSUED. *TR

PUSHED SWITCH FOR POWER REAR TAILGATE WINDOW, WINDOW ASSEMBLY BROKE AND WINDOW FELL DOWN INTO DOOR. UPON EXAMINATION, ALL COMPONENTS - REGULATOR ASSEMBLY AND ALL CONNECTING PARTS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED WHICH LED TO FAILURE. LESS THAN 12 MONTHS LATER, REAR TAILGATE OUTSIDE HANDLE BROKE; AGAIN UNDER EXAMINATION THE ENTIRE INTERIOR LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS SEVERELY CORRODED WHICH CAUSED FAILURE. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A DESIGN OR ASSEMBLY DEFECT. WATER IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LEAKING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE TAILGATE. FROM THE EXTENT OF CORROSION, THIS CONDITION HAD BEEN OCCURRING FOR MANY YEARS - MOST LIKELY IN MY OPINION IMMEDIATELY FROM THE TIME THAT WE ACQUIRED THE VEHICLE NEW. THE FAILURE, WHILE CAUSED FROM A DEFECT FROM THE BEGINNING OF VEHICLE LIFE, MANIFESTED ITSELF AFTER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY PERIOD AND TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS. FROM SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR

IN CLEAR WEATHER, ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WILL PERIODICALLY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY LOOSE POWER, TYPICALLY WHEN TURNING INTO TRAFFIC AND HITTING A MANHOLE OR MAKING A TURN THROUGH A DEEPER INTERSECTION SWALE. Summary

SINCE AT LEAST SEPTEMBER OF 2009 MY 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA RANDOMLY ACTIVATES THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY BRAKE. TOTAL CONTROL, INCLUDING ACCELERATION AND STEERING, IS LOST FOR A FEW SECONDS. THIS IS OCCURRING EACH TIME IN NON SLIP DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT BEGINS TO BLINK, BEEP, AND THE VEHICLE JUST LOSES TOTAL CONTROL. USUALLY OCCURS UPON DRIVING FROM A STOP. I HAVE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA ON AT LEAST 4 TO 5 OCCASIONS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD EACH TIME THAT THEY HAD NO CODES AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR ATLEAST ONCE EVERY THREE WEEKS TO A MONTH. THERE IS NO WAY THEY CAN REPLICATE THE PROBLEM UNLESS THEY DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR A MONTH. I HAVE BEEN TOLD ON AT LEAST THREE OCCASIONS DATING BACK TO OCTOBER OF 2009 THAT A REPRESENTATIVE FROM TOYOTA WOULD CONTACT ME, SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE, AND GIVE ME AN IDEA OF WHAT MAY ME GOING ON WITH IT. TO DATE I HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED EVEN A PHONE CALL FROM TOYOTA. WHEN I LAST BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA FOR THIS ISSUE (APRIL 24, 2010), I HAD RECENTLY BEEN ENTERING A BUSY ROAD FROM A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL CAME ON FOR NO REASON, THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL (ACCELERATION, AND STEERING) AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY TRAFFIC LANE WITH VEHICLES COMING AT ME. A VEHICLE NEEDED TO SKID AND STEER OUT OF MY LANE TO AVOID STRIKING MY DRIVERS SIDE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN TO TOYOTA WITH THE SAME RESULTS (2) TIMES IN OCTOBER 2009, (1) TIME FEBRUARY 2010, (1) TIME APRIL 2010. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ALMOST ONCE EVERY THREE WEEKS. MOST RECENTLY IT HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES OVER A TWO DAY SPAN. I HAVE STOPPED BRINGING IT TO TOYOTA AS THEY HAVE INFORMED ME EACH TIME THAT THEY CAN NOT FIND A CODE OR REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AT TIMES THEY HAVE KEPT MY VEHICLE OVER NIGHT, AND DRIVEN IT FOR 50 PLUS MILES. I JUST CAN NOT CONTINUE TO BRING IT IN AND HAVE NOTHING DONE. *TR

Summary

WE HAVE FOUR DRIVERS IN OUR FAMILY AND HAVE DRIVEN AND OWNED 4X4 WRANGLER, EXPLORER,EXPEDITION,SUBARU OUTBACK SPORT AND 2 AWD PLYMOUTH VOYAGER. WE NOW ALSO OWN AND DRIVE A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE SEQUOIA IS A DANGER TO US AND OTHER DRIVERS WHEN THERE IS SNOW OR ICE ON THE GROUND. WE LIVE IN MICHIGAN. WITH THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE ON AND WITH STABILITY CONTROL, THE BACK END STILL SLIDES OUT EASILY WITHOUT PROVOCATION. WHEN IT DOES THE VSC TAKES OVER AND LEAVES YOU OUT IN TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER. IF YOU ARE GOING OVER 60MPH YOU CANNOT TURN ON 4WD FROM 2WD. THIS REQUIRES SLOWING DOWN IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC TO ACTIVATE 4WD. ABS DOES NOT COME ON IF YOU ARE TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED LIKE DOWN A NARROW ICY DRIVEWAY LIKE WE HAVE. THE SEQUOIA IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. IT OBVIOUSLY WAS NOT TESTED IN REAL LIFE WINTER CONDITIONS AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. PLEASE HELP US. *TR

OUR 2006 SEQUOIA EXPERIENCES THE SAME TURNING PROBLEM AS ANNOUNCED IN THE 2003 SEQUOIA RECALL TODAY. WHEN MAKING TURNS, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE HESITATES A FEW SECONDS BEFORE ACCELERATING. IT IS ESPECIALLY CONCERNING BECAUSE ON LEFT TURNS IN FRONT OF OTHER CARS, YOU DON'T KNOW THAT YOU WILL CLEAR TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. I CALLED TOYOTA AND RECEIVED CASE #[XXX] . I WAS TOLD THAT THEY SHOW NO INFORMATION ON THIS MODEL YEAR HAVING PROBLEMS. Summary

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 49,000. THIS IS MY SECOND SEQUOIA (PRIOR WAS A 2002 YEAR MODEL) SO I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE CHARACTERISTICS AND NUANCES OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER PURCHASING THIS SEQUOIA, I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS, AND BEHIND OTHER VEHICLES, THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE AND LUNGE FORWARD MOVING THE CAR SEVERAL FEET FORWARD. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES THIS OCCURRED, I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED. I CAME TO REALIZE THAT IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH A MOMENTARY SURGE IN THE ACCELERATOR. EVEN WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IT STILL CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD. MY WIFE AND I HAVE NEARLY STRUCK VEHICLES IN FRONT OF US. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DURING WARRANTY AND REPORTED THE INCIDENTS. OF COURSE WE RECEIVED THEIR STANDARD REPLY "WE COULD NOT GET YOUR VEHICLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM." WHEN QUESTIONED FURTHER, WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS PROBABLY WHEN THE A/C PUMP WAS COMING ON, AND IT ONLY FELT LIKE WE WERE MOVING BUT ACTUALLY WEREN'T, AND THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. WOULD MAKE SENSE, BUT THE VEHICLE DOES THIS WITH BOTH THE A/C ON AND THE A/C OFF THOUGH I MUST ADMIT IT SEEMS TO DO IT MORE FREQUENTLY DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. PLUS, THIS NEVER HAPPENED WITH MY PREVIOUS SEQUOIA. ALSO, IT IS NOT OUR IMAGINATION THAT THE VEHICLE IS MOVING FORWARD. WE HAVE NEARLY STRUCK THE REAR END OF OTHER CARS AND MUST NOW STOP 8 - 10 FEET BEHIND OTHER VEHICLES. I LOOKED ON LINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER SEQUOIA OWNERS REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND GETTING THE SAME RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA. BEING SOMEWHAT MECHANICALLY INCLINED, I TOO BELIEVE THIS IS AN ELECTRONIC/COMPUTER CONTROL PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT AWARE OF THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM CAUSING DEATHS, PLEASE DON'T FORGET US AS IT IS STILL AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM, AND FOR WHAT WE PAID FOR THIS VEHICLE, WE ARE OWED BETTER THAN THEIR LAME EXCUSE. THANKS FOR LISTENING. *TR

I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED. WHEN IT RAINED I NOTICED WATER WAS GETTING IN THE VEHICLE AT THE REAR HATCH AND UNDER THE RIGHT CENTER ROW SEAT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE BOLTS FOR THE LEFT HATCH SHOCK; THEY REMOVED ALL REAR INTERIOR AND FOUND "MANY HARDWARE PIECES MISSING". THE DEALER STATES THE BOLTS WERE REMOVED, CLEANED, AND APPLIED SILICONE TO THEM. APPARENTLY THE LEAK IS GONE. HOWEVER, WHENEVER IT RAINS, I AM CONCERNED THE PROBLEM COULD COME BACK. *TR

Summary

2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASE. ON 30 JULY 09 VEHICLE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE COMPUTER FAILURE OF ECU, VSC, AND OTHER COMPUTERS. TOYOTA TECH REPS SAY VEHICLE COULD NOT HAVE CAUSED PROBLEM, THEREFORE IT MUST BE AN "EXTERNAL' FAULT. HOWEVER, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE OF ANY EXTERNAL ARCING OR OTHER POWER SURGE INDICATIVE OF AN "EXTERNAL" EVENT. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADMIT POTENTIAL OF A LATENT DEFECT AND SAYS INCIDENT MUST BE REFERRED FOR INSURANCE. TOYOTA WILL NOT ADDRESS LOGICAL QUESTIONS AS TO WHY OTHER (NON-PROTECTED SYSTEMS SUCH AS THE RADIO) IN THE VEHICLE STILL FUNCTION IN LIGHT OF THE ALLEGED "EXTERNAL EVENT." ADDITIONALLY, THERE WERE NO CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSES BLOWN, SO AGAIN HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE "EXTERNAL EVENT" THEORY TO BE VALID? GIVEN THE ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE ON THE WEB CONCERNING SEQUOIA ECUS AND VSC COMPUTERS, WHAT ACTION CAN NHTSA TAKE TO HAVE THE MANUFACTURER ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS? *TR

THE THREE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO LIGHT AT RANDOM TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK, THE MASTER CYLINDER HAS BEEN REPLACED, THEY HAVE REPLACED AND RETORQUES SENSORS TO SPEC, AND REPLACED THE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON. OFTEN THE TECH CLAIMS THAT THERE ARE NO CODES IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT THEY CAN'T FIX WHAT THEY CAN'T SEE IS BROKEN. THEY TELL ME IT ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE REAR WINDOW AND REAR WIPER FAILURE. BEGAN THIS ACTIVITY AT 10,000 MILES, ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS AND EACH TIME IN DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT., THEY COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM WHILE STILL IN THE SIGN IN AREA, SO NO RECORD OF COMPLAINT WAS ENTERED ON VEHICLE INFORMATION. WINDOW AND WIPER LAST OPERATED JULY 2008, AT APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES; HOWEVER, AS THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DRY SUMMER AND FALL, USE OF THE EQUIPMENT HAS NOT BEEN REQUIRED THEREFORE THE FAILURE WENT UNDISCOVERED UNTIL APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 2008. AT DEALERSHIP, DURING OIL CHANGE 12/13/08, ATTEMPTS TO ADDRESS CONCERN WERE MEAGER AT BEST. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND LACK OF DOCUMENTATION IS TOYOTA'S ONLY DEFENSE IN REFUSING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT THEY HAVE SPENT MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME ON IT "FOR FREE" AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE UNTIL I PAY FOR IT. THE LACK OF DOCUMENTATION SHOWS THAT THEY HAVE A BREAKDOWN IN THEIR BUSINESS PRACTICE AND THIS ISSUE IS NOW UNRESOLVED. *TR

Summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
