AFTER DRIVING HALF-HOUR IN HIGH-WAY SOUTHWARD ON I-45 IN THE MORNING. THE CAR CANNOT BE ACCELERATE AT AROUND 40MPH WHEN I RAMP UP TO 288, AND THE AUTO-LOCK LIGHT TURNED RED. SECONDS LATER, IT RECOVERED BACK. 2 MINUTES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN . AND AGAIN . SO I PARKED IT . ~8-HOURS LATER, I STARTED IT AND THE AUTO-LOCK LIGHT RED AGAIN. SECONDS LATER, THE ENGINE STOPPED WHEN I BACK THE CAR. I STEPPED ON GAS-PEDAL WHEN I TRIED 3RD TIME, AND THE CAR MOVED AND THE AUTO-LOCK LIGHT KEPT RED. 10-MINUTS LATER, WHEN I DRIVE ON 288-SOUTH AT ~60MPH, BOTH OF THE REPAIR LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT TURNED YELLOW AND THE AUTO-LOCK LIGHT OFF, SECONDS LATER, THE REPAIR LIGHT OFF. THE ENGINE LIGHT KEPT ON. SO I GET DOWN THE HIGHWAY, CANNOT ACCELERATE CAR WITH GAS-PEDAL ON AND CANNOT TURN STERRING WHEEL, THE CAR SLOW DOWN AND STOPPED BY ITSELF. 5-MINUTES LATER, I STARTED IT AGAIN WITH ENGINE LIGHT ON WITH YELLOW, THE CAR MOVED AND 10 MINUTES LATER, I PARKED IT HOME.
I HAD THIS CAR REPAIRED TWICE AT A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC SHOP THAT COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. EVERY TIME, THE CAR COMES TO STOP OR DIES ON ME. I REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER ONE TIME THAT IS UNDERNEATH THE CAR. NOW THE CAR IS SITTING IN MY GARAGE BECAUSE OF THE FUEL PUMP NOT FUNCTIONING AND DOES NOT MAKE THAT SOUND ANYMORE WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY ON.
IT BEGAN WITH THE 12 VOLT NOT WORKING. PUT IN NEW FUSE IT BLEW. THEN INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEEDOMETER GOES BLACK, IF YOU GOT THE DASH IT COMES BACK ON THE BATTERY GOT COMPLETELY DRAINED BOUGHT A NEW ONE. STILL HAVE A SHORT SOMEWHERE . NOTICED A MILLION OTHER COMPLAINTS THE SAME SHOULD THIS NOT BE INVESTIGATED? A SODERING DEFECT OR ELECTRICAL SHORT DRAINING BATTERY, IT'S OBVIOUSLY A VEHICLE DEFECT. ISN'T FORD A BIG ENOUGH COMPANY TO TAKE CARE OF THIS INSTEAD OF IGNORING IT? THIS IS ON A 2007 FORD 500, LOW MILES. THIS HAPPENS SITTING STILL OR DRIVING.
CAR IS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE GAS TANK AREA, LOOKS LIKE ITS LEAKING FROM THE FILLER NECK. AT TIMES IT LEAKS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT. I'M ALSO HAVING SURGING ISSUES. MAINLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THESE PROBLEMS TRULY CONCERN ME AND I QUESTION THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF WHILE IN THIS VEHICLE.
I DON'T KNOW IF THIS BELONGS IN ENGINE OR FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF 'GAS PEDDLE' IN EITHER. THE DATE OF 07/17/2013 IS APPROXIMATE. IT MAY HAVE BEEN BETWEEN 2013 - 2015. I AM NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATES. IT WAS WHEN I WAS GOING TO A PAIN SPECIALIST IN BUFFALO AFTER MY REAR-END ACCIDENT IN MY PREVIOUS CAR IN JULY 2012. LOCATION - I-190 & NY-198 BUFFALO, NY 14207 42.930405, -78.899552 MERGE RAMP FROM THE NY-198 TO THE I-190 NORTH. 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED THE PROBLEM: THE GAS PEDDLE STUCK WHEN I HAD TO DO A FAST ACCELERATION / I FLOORED IT. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE GAS PEDDLE A COUPLE TIMES TO GET IT UNSTUCK. I HAD IT IN TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY FIXED OR CLEANED SOMETHING. THE FORD DEALER SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $400.00 TO REPLACE THE COMPONENT IF THIS DIDN'T WORK. IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I DID ANOTHER FAST ACCELERATION. I WAS ABLE AGAIN TO GET IT UNSTUCK. I HAVE NOT HAD THE OCCASION TO DO A FAST ACCELERATION SINCE. I DON'T RUN IT FAST IF I CAN HELP IT.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FLASHES THEN GOES BLACK WHILE DRIVING. INTERIOR EXTERIOR AND GAUGE LIGHTS GO BRIGHT AND DIM AND GO OUT ALTOGETHER WHILE DRIVING. CAR DIES WHILE MOVING. BATTERIES ONLY LAST 1 YEAR FROM BEING DRAINED. NO ALTERNATOR ISSUE PER 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS.
DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT SOCKET BURNS OUT THE BULB. THE BULB HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES IN THE PAST THREE MONTHS. THE ENTIRE LIGHT SOCKET UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED ME THAT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE.
VEHICLE SURGES WHEN YOU LET OFF THE BRAKE. THIS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR A COUPLE YEARS AGO. THEY EITHER SERVICED OR REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT WORKED FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS OR SO. NOW THE CAR SHAKES REALLY BAD ANYTIME WE HAVE TO STOP AND HAVE TO KEEP FOOT ON THE BRAKE REALLY HARD, SOMETIMES THE CAR DIES DURING THIS TOO AS WELL AS GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. AS SOON AS YOU LET OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR ACCELERATES, CAN MAKE IT UP TO ALMOST 40 MPH WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE GAS. IT RUNS HORRIBLY IN THE HEAT TOO. ANY TEMP OVER 70 IT JERKS INTO 2 OR 3RD GEAR HARD WHEN STOPPING AND GOING.
THROTTLE HAD IT FIXED WITH RECALL, IT LUNGES YOU INTO TRAFFIC WHILE STOPPED. AGAIN IT HAS DONE THAT NOW FAILED, THIS IS A DANGEROUS CAR. IT IS GARAGE KEPT AND WELL MAINTAINED WENT DOWN TO GET GAS, MAIL AND WHILE STOPPED IT JERKED ME OUT OF THE STOPPED POSITION INTO THE MAILBOX THEN THE WRENCH, TRACTION AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT BUCKED TILL I GOT IT 10 FEET TO THE GARAGE NO, IT WILL NOT START!!! TO EVEN GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP OR GARAGE, ITS A SAFETY FEATURE I WAS TOLD, THE WAY IT LUNGES IS DANGEROUS, I ALMOST WENT THROUGH HE GARAGE WALL WHICH IS CONCRETE, LAST TIME I HIT MY TEETH ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND KNOCKED ONE BACK OUT OF ALIGNMENT. WHICH THE FORD PERSON THOUGHT WAS FUNNY LAST TIME. FORD KNOWS THIS IS A DANGEROUS CAR, IT SHOULD BE REPLACED AND THESE SHOULD BE CRUSHED LIKE THE DEMON CAR THEY ARE. PEOPLE SPEND HARD EARNED MONEY ON THESE VEHICLES ALL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN?
PERIODICALLY BUT OCCURING MORE OFTEN. ONCE THE CAR IS PLACED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE BUT FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, ONCE THE BRAKE IS RELEASED THE CAR QUICKLY AND AGGRESSIVELY ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN WITHOUT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND WITH VERY LITTLE REACTION TIME YOU HAVE TO SLAM THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE THE CAR STOP AND THEN THE CAR CUTS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST MONTH. VERY DANGEROUS! I HAVE RESEARCHED RECALL INFORMATION FOR THIS MODEL AS WELL AS MY DIRECT VIN NUMBER ASSOCIATED WITH MY VEHICLE BUT I HAVE YET TO FIND A RECALL. HOWEVER I HAVE READ MANY REVIEWS OF THE SAME ISSUES WITH OTHER FORD 500 OWNERS.
FUEL TANK FAILURE ,FUEL LEAK, VAPOR LEAK. THIS DUE TO A FAILURE OF THE SEALS ON THE FUEL TANK ALONG WITH THE DETERIORATION OF THE MOUNTING BRACKETS ON THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL SENDING UNITS.
DASH PANEL LIGHT GO ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING, REVERSE LIGHTS COME ON AND CAR WANTS TO STALL. PUT NEW BATTERY IN AND HAD ALTERNATOR REPLACED STILL HAVING PROBLEM. CAN NOT DRIVE CAR BECAUSE OF SAFETY RISKS. BEEN DOING THIS FOR A MONTH AND STILL DOING IT EVEN AFTER REPAIRS DONE BY MECHANIC.

THE CAR LITERALLY JUMPS A FEW FEET AND YOU MUST APPLY THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY OR RISK HITTING ANYTHING CLOSE. IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO PARK AND WORRIES US A LOT WHEN AT STOPLIGHTS WITH PEDESTRIANS CROSSING. THE CAR CAN BE A AT A COMPLETE STOP OR SIMPLY RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL IN A TURN , BACKING UP OR GOING STRAIGHT, IT IS VERY SCARY. THE SURGE USUALLY IS MORE OF A JUMP OF 2-4 FEET. THE INTERNET IS CHOCK FULL OF CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT.
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
PAINT IS BUBBLING ON HOOD WHICH RESULT IN TOTAL CORROSION OF ALUMINUM HOOD. HOOD MAY EVENTUALLY RUST THROUGH AND SEPARATE FROM FRAME.
CAR IN THE MORNINGS IS ACCELERATED AND WHEN PLACED IN REVERSE IT MOVES BY ITSELF VERY ACCELERATED AND ITS PARKED ON A FLAT SURFACE WITH NO SLOPES. TRANSMISSION FEELS AS IF RUNNING FORCEFULLY BUT CHANGES GEARS I GUESS FINE JUST GOT THE CAR AND HAS LOW MILES AT 27000 MILES. AND DOES IT EVERYDAY.
WHILE DRIVING ONE DAY, MY CLUSTER PANEL WENT DARK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE BATTERY, WHICH WOULD ALSO CAUSE THE CAR TO DIE. HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. WHEN I DROVE IT TO MY MECHANIC, IT DID THE SAME THING BUT BEGAN FLICKERING ON AND OFF THE WHOLE WAY THERE. NOT ONLY WAS IT ANNOYING, BUT I COULD NOT SEE MY SPEED NOR MY GAS GAUGE. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN I TRIED TO USE MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS, THEY WOULD ALSO GO OFF WHENEVER THE PANEL WENT OUT. THE REPAIR OF THE WHOLE CLUSTER PANEL IS NOT CHEAP. AN ESTIMATE FOR ME WAS $900 FROM MY MECHANIC. SINCE IT WILL HAVE TO BE PROGRAMMED HOWEVER, I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT TO FORD WHICH IS A PAIN IN ITSELF. THERE ARE COUNTLESS REVIEWS ON THIS PROBLEM, IT SHOULD NOT BE LEFT UP TO THE CONSUMER TO TAKE ON SUCH A SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE. MY CAR HAS ROUGHLY 62,000 MILES ON IT.

HAVING THE AIR CONDITIONING ON SEEMS TO WORSEN THIS PROBLEM SUBSTANTIALLY. IT IS COMPLETELY RANDOM AND I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. PLEASE REOPEN YOUR INVESTIGATION AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BOTH THE AC ON AND OFF. IT'S MAINLY WHEN IT IS ON, BUT STILL COMPLETELY RANDOM. MY THROTTLE BODY WENT COMPLETELY OUT AT 99481 MILES. I PAID APPROX. $800 FOR THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REIMBURSED FOR THE SERVICE ON 12/11/2012 AFTER SO MANY COMPLAINTS HAD BEEN MADE ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY IN THIS MODEL THAT THEY WERE PAYING FOR PREVIOUS SERVICES FOR ANY REPAIRS/REPLACEMENTS MADE FOR THIS PART. I BELIEVE THE REPLACEMENT PART USED WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE, AND MADE MENTION OF MY CONCERN TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME. THEY AGREED THAT THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE A DEFECTIVE REPLACEMENT PART AS THE NEW PART THEY WERE USING A YEAR LATER WAS DIFFERENT. I RECENTLY RAN INTO A MAJOR ISSUE WITH MY 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WHICH REALLY SCARED ME. I WAS ROTATING THE TIRES ON THE CAR AND WHEN I WAS REMOVING THE WHEEL FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR I NOTICED THAT THE WHEEL WOBBLED BACK AND FORTH. WHEN I STARTED TO REMOVE THE FACTORY INSTALLED BALL JOINT I NOTICED THAT THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE BALL JOINT TO THE LOWER CONNECTION JOINT WAS ON THE VERGE OF COMING OFF. I FIND THIS VERY DISTURBING AS I LIVE IN A VERY MOUNTAINOUS STATE WITH MANY CURVY ROADS AND STEEP DROP OFFS. HAD THIS NUT FINISHED COMING OFF WHILE ON ONE OF THESE ROADS I MAY NOT BE WRITING THIS LETTER. I WILL ALSO CONTACT NAFTA ABOUT THIS SITUATION AS IT MAY BE OCCURRING ON MORE VEHICLES THAN JUST MINE. ON A TRIP SOUTH ON AN INTERSTATE, MY CAR OVERHEATED. THERE WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC ON A HOT DAY. I HAD MY AIR CONDITIONER ON AND WE WERE ONLY TRAVELING AT 5-10 MPH. A SERVICE STATION DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN A COMPUTER MODULE WHICH CONTROLS THE RADIATOR FAN. THIS PROBLEM RESULTED IN A $700 REPAIR BILL. *TR
MY HUSBAND HAD AN ACCIDENT IN A STORE PARKING LOT. HE MISCALCULATED THE LENGTH OF AN NARROW ISLAND THAT HAD A CURBING AROUND IT. HE CUT THE CORNER AND DROVE OVER THE CURB AND DOWN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE OTHER CURB. BESIDES THE REAR FENDER DAMAGE, MORE DAMAGE WAS DISCOVERED AT THE STATE INSPECTION. THE ROLL RESTRICTOR WAS TORN. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS PART KEEPS THE ENGINE FROM "ROLLING" FORWARD OR BACKWARD. IT IS PART OF THE ENGINE MOUNT SYSTEM AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT MUST BE REPLACED OR THE CAR FAILS THE PA STATE INSPECTION. THIS REPAIR AND INSPECTIONS COST ME OVER $500. I BELIEVE THE ROLL RESTRICTOR WAS DAMAGED IN THE SUDDEN IMPACT OF THE CURB. THE DEALERSHIP THEN POINTED OUT SEVERAL OTHER AREAS OF CORROSION UNDER THE HOOD THAT ARE NOT VISIBLE FROM THE HOOD TOP. DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS NOT COVERED AFTER THE 3YR/36,000 MILE WARRANTY OR THE 5YR/UNLIMITED RUST. TO FIX THE ONE SPOT WAS QUOTED OVER $100. *TR

SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NEW I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND ONLINE, THAT THE OPTIONAL BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ROCKER SWITCH IS WIRED IMPROPERLY. THAT IS, WIRED IN REVERSE. THE MOUNTED SWITCH CLEARLY DEPICTS A FOOT OVER A PEDAL IN THE CENTER WITH AN ARROW POINTING 'UP' AT THE TOP OF THE SWITCH AND AN ARROW POINTING 'DOWN' AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SWITCH. THIS CONTROLS THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT OF BOTH PEDALS FROM THE FLOOR AND IS DESIGNED TO PLACE THE PEDALS WITHIN REACH OF THE OPERATOR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY HAVE DEPRESSED THIS SWITCH WHILE IN MOTION PUSHING THE TOP PORTION OF THE ROCKER SWITCH ASSUMING THE PEDALS WOULD RISE 'UP' AS INDICATED BY THE ARROWS ON THE SWITCH. PRESSING THE SWITCH IN THE UPWARD POSITION 'LOWERS' THE PEDALS TO THE FLOOR, WHILE PRESSING THE LOWER PORTION OF THE SWITCH, WITH THE ARROW POINTING 'DOWN', ACTUALLY RAISES THE PEDALS UP, CLOSER TO THE OPERATOR. AFTER PRESSING THE SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES IN THE UP POSITION AND BELIEVING THE PEDALS WERE AT THEIR MAXIMUM HEIGHT, SEVERAL OF THE DRIVERS IN THE HOUSE WHOM HAVE SHORT LEGS, WERE IMMEDIATELY PANICKED AND DESPERATELY BEGAN TRYING TO COMPENSATE BY READJUSTING THE SEAT TO BE WITHIN REACH OF THE BRAKE! MY 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED SEL FWD WITH THE 3.0 V-6 (81,421 MILES) AND 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL INTERMITTENTLY SURGE FORWARD OR BACKWARDS WITHOUT GAS PEDAL APPLICATION WHEN IDLING IN GEAR. IT IS AS IF I FLOORED IN A JACKRABBIT START. IT DOES NOT DO THIS EVERY TIME THAT THE CAR GOES TO IDLE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE (FOR EXAMPLE, IF I AM IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT) BUT IT WILL DO THIS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TIME I DRIVE. I HAVE HAD TO KEEP MY RIGHT FOOT FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE BACKING OR IN A PARKING LOT TO KEEP THE CAR FROM HITTING PEDESTRIANS, OTHER CARS, SIGN POLES IN PARKING LOTS AND MY CARPORT'S WALL. STARTING AROUND MARCH 2011, MY 2007 FORD 500 WOULD LURCH WHEN I MOVED IT FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR FROM PARK TO DRIVE. IT SEEMED TO GET WORSE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. WAS STOPPED AT A DRIVE-THRU WINDOW AND WHEN I WENT TO PULL UP TO RECEIVE MY FOOD, THE CAR LURCHED AHEAD OF THE WINDOW. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO PICK UP MY FOOD AND IT LURCHED SO FAST BACKWARD THAT I HAD NO CONTROL OF IT, EVEN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THIS CAUSED A CRASH INTO THE FRONT OF ANOTHER CAR. AT A STOPLIGHT WITH THE BRAKE ON THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE CAR JUMPED FORWARD ABOUT 20 FEET BEFORE I COULD STOP IT. AT THE NEXT LIGHT THE SAME THING HAPPENED. AT MY FINAL DESTINATION APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES AWAY MY SON (WHO WAS WITH ME THE WHOLE TIME = I WAS TAKING HIM BACK TO COLLEGE) TOLD ME TO LET THE CAR RUN TO SEE IF IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN. AFTER CALLING FORD AND REPORTING THE SITUATION THEY REFUSED TO DOCUMENT THIS OR MAKE A CASE NUMBER UNTIL I TOLD THEM I KNEW THERE WAS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ON THIS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THEY GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER [XXX] BUT WERE RUDE TO ME AND COULD NOT ANSWER IF THE REPLACEMENT PART ADDRESSED THE ISSUE AND HAS BEEN FIXED. ON AUGUST 30, 2011, TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM REPEAT, ONLY MORE AGGRESSIVE FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT JUST TWO DAYS AGO, EVEN AS I PULLED INTO THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE PARKING SPACE. WAS TOLD THEY WILL HAVE TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM AGAIN, NOTHING IS UNDER WARRANTY. I AM JUST OVER THE 12 MONTHS, AND AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES AFTER THE REPAIR WAS DONE LAST YEAR. WARRANTY OR NOT, THIS REPAIR SHOULD HAVE LASTED THE LIFE OF THE CAR OR AT LEAST ANOTHER 70,000 MILES, NOT 30,000. I DIDN'T HAVE THE DEALERSHIP KEEP THE OLD THROTTLE BODY. THE WARRANTY COMPANY HAD TOLD ME LAST YEAR THAT THE PART, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS ON BACK ORDER, BUT THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING THE PART, SUPPOSEDLY. I'M CONCERNED THE PART WASN'T REPLACED, BUT I HAVE NO EVIDENCE OF SUCH. I HAVE NOTICED EACH TIME, THE PROBLEM IS WORSE AFTER I HAVE THE CAR IDLING FOR A TIME BEFORE PUTTING IN GEAR, REVERSE OR DRIVE. INSTALLED MONITOR AND FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE TO ROAD TEST. TESTING RESULTED FINDING THE THROTTLE MOTOR BINDING INTERMEDIATELY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REMOVED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE. THE PROCESSOR WAS REPROGRAMMED AND RETESTED TO VERIFY OPERATION." I HAD TO PAY FOR FUEL INJECTION SERVICE, REPLACE FUEL FILTER, WHICH I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO HAVE DONE WITH THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR

I HAVE A 2007 FORD 500 THAT STARTED SURGING FORWARD AND BACKWARD. I TOOK THE CAR AND MY EXTENDED WARRANTY TO A FORD DEALERSHIP ONLY TO LEARN THAT THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HAD BACK-DATED MY WARRANTY TO THE TIME THE CAR WAS PUT IN SERVICE. (I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR AS A "PROGRAM" CAR.) MY WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT ACCORDING TO THEM 6 DAYS BEFORE I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WROTE A LETTER TO FORD AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR IT EVEN THOUGH I THOUGHT I HAD PURCHASED A 5 YEAR, 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE CAR IS STILL SURGING FORWARD AND BACKWARD AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT. I HAVE OWNED LINCOLNS AND FORDS ALL OF MY LIFE AND I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER ONE. I CANNOT BELIEVE FORD REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. AT ABOUT 53,000 MILES WE STARTED TO SEE A RANDOM "SURGE" OF THE THROTTLE WHEN WE WERE SHIFTING THE CAR FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. IT HAS CONTINUED TO GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, NOW OCCURRING ALMOST EVERY TIME WE SHIFT THE CAR FROM THE POSITIONS NOTED ABOVE. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS. FROM ALL OF THE ONLINE FORUMS, THIS BEHAVIOR IS NOT ISOLATED TO JUST ONE CAR//ONE OWNER BUT RATHER SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THE FORD FIVE HUNDRED'S ENGINE SHUTS OFF AS YOU TURN THE WHEEL, THAT'S HOW IT STARTED OUT. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CAR'S ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF JUST DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP AND NOT MOVE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE KEY TO OFF POSITION. AFTER TURNING KEY TO OFF POSITION, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT DROVE FINE UNTIL I EITHER TURNED A CORNER OR IT JUST SHUT OFF AS I WENT STRAIGHT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HAD QUITE A FEW FORD FIVE HUNDRED OWNERS COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD AND 84,000 (PLUS) MILES ON IT. THIS CAR SHOULDN'T BE ACTING LIKE THAT. IT WILL COST $800+ TO GET IT FIXED, IF WHAT THEY DO WILL FIX IT. WE PURCHASED OUR 2007 FORD 500 IN JULY OF 2007. AT 87,000 MILES THE A/C COMPRESSOR IS FAILING. THE A/C WORKS PROPERLY IF GOING ABOVE 45 MILES PER HOUR, HOWEVER ONCE YOU SLOW DOWN AND OR STOP, THE AIR STARTS WARMING UP. I WAS JUST QUOTED $1400.00+ TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. NOTICEABLY WHEN FIRST TAKING OUT OF PARK EITHER GOING FORWARD OR REVERSE, OR WHEN GOING THROUGH DRIVE UP WINDOWS. (IE FAST-FOOD OR BANK). INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST AND THEN MORE AND MORE UNTIL IT WAS DOING IT EVERY TIME, AND AT A GREATER ACCELERATION. THE FORD DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY KNEW RIGHT OFF THE BAT, IT EVIDENTLY WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. WE HAD TO WAIT OVER A MONTH FOR THEM TO FINALLY GET ONE IN BECAUSE THEY WERE BACK-ORDERED . EVIDENTLY LOTS OF PEOPLE NEEDED THEM! WE WERE ADVISED NOT TO USE OUR CAR DURING THIS TIME BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE. OF COURSE THE DEALER DID NOT WANT TO PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER THE NEW CAR WARRANTY, BUT AFTER MAKING COMPLAINTS TO FORD MOTOR CO FOR THREE WEEKS WHILE THE PART REPEATEDLY DID NOT COME IN, WE WERE GIVEN A RENTAL UNTIL IT WAS FINALLY REPLACED 11-2009. NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE NEW CAR WARRANTY IS UP AND THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THEIR REPAIR BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN OVER 12 MONTHS. THE CAR NOW HAS 41,000 MILES AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. I SHOULD HAVE REPORTED IT THE FIRST TIME BUT FORD SEEMED TO BE TAKING RESPONSIBILITY AND THE WAY THEY TALKED TO ME I THOUGHT THERE WAS GOING TO BE A SAFETY RECALL. IT IS A TERRIBLE SAFETY HAZARD. NOW THAT THE NEW CAR WARRANTY IS UP THEIR MEMORIES HAVE GOTTEN BAD. THE LOCAL DEALER (KEN GARFF FORD) TOLD ME THEY ARE UNAWARE OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 FIVE HUNDRED. WHICH IS TOTAL BULL BECAUSE THEY SURE WERE AWARE OF IT THE FIRST TIME A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. I AM REALLY DISGUSTED WITH MY DEALERSHIP. I AM WAITING TO SEE WHAT FORD MOTOR COMPANIES RESPONSE WILL BE. WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, CAR WILL LUNGE BACK A FEW FEET. JUST LAST WEEK, I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A STORE AND IT LUNGED FIVE TIMES BEFORE I TOOK IT OUT OF REVERSE AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE. IT LUNGED AGAIN FORWARD AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME. IF MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO LUNGE UNLESS IT IS STOPPED EITHER BY BRAKING OR HITTING SOMETHING. WHEN IN A DRIVE-THRU, WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN I RELEASE THE BRAKE THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, PEOPLE HAVE STATED IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE AND IT COULD COST 500.00 + DOLLARS TO REPAIR. IT IS A FACTORY MISTAKE THAT FORD IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I WAS ADVISED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA JUST IN CASE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. WE ARE TAKING THE CAR IN TO SEE IF WE CAN AFFORD THE REPAIR ON OUR OWN NEXT WEEK. IF IT IS THE THROTTLE AND DOES COST AS MUCH AS OTHERS HAVE CLAIMED, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR.

I WOULD COME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, MAILBOX, OR DRIVE-THRU AND LET MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKES AND THE CAR WOULD "JUMP" -- ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. MY FOOT WOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE "REPROGRAMMED". I SPECIFICALLY ASKED COULD IT BE A PROBLEM WITH FUEL SYSTEM AND WAS TOLD NO. I HAD THE WORK COMPLETED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS TO THIS DAY. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES WITH REAR END COLLISIONS. FINALLY AS I WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND HIT A POST IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE.

WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE ICONS WOULD LIGHT UP AND THE CAR LOST 95% OF ITS POWER. AFTER THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, A FORD DEALER SAID THAT ITWAS THE TCM MODULE WHICH WASN'T COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I PAID $1000 TO HAVE THE TCM REPLACED BY A CERTIFIED FORD MECHANIC. IN APRIL 2011 THE CAR BEGAN TO REPEAT THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I'VE HAD THE CAR TO 3 FORD DEALERS, BUT THEY ALL SAY THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS THE CAR IS ACTUALLY MALFUNCTIONING AT THE TIME. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THERE WAS AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 44,500.

MY WIFE HAS A 2007 FORD 500. SINCE 40K MILES, SHE'S HAD CONTINOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SURGING AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. I ALSO HAD A 2007 MODEL 500 AS A COMPANY CAR. I BEGAN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS IN/AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WITH OUR COMPANY WERE ALSO DRIVING 500'S AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. FORD SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO GREEN FORD IN GREENSBORO, NC AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLES WERE REPAIRED OUT OF WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. AS A RESULT AND AFTER THE VEHICLE ALMOST SURGED INTO OUR DAUGHTER, I TOOK MY WIFE'S CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TODAY. THE SERVICE REP ACKNOWLEDGED "SOME PROBLEMS" WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT ADVISED IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM IN ALL VEHICLES. I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MY 500 AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE OTHER COMPANY CARS. I EVEN OFFERED TO PROVIDE HIM THE NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE OTHER DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS TOLD THEY WERE IN A "DIFFERENT DISTRICT" AND HAD A DIFFERENT REPRSENTATIVE. I ASKED IF THEY COMMUNICATED WITH EACH OTHER TO WHICH I RECEIVED AN INTELLIGEIBLE RESPONSE. I WORK AS AN INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR AND WILL ENSURE THIS PROBLEM IS NOT OVERLOOKED. I'VE ALMOST WRECKED THE CAR 3 TIMES IN OUR CARPORT AND PARKING LOTS AS A RESULT OF SUDDEN SURGE. IT APPEARS TOYOTA IS NOT THE ONLY CAR COMPANY WITH SUDDEN SURGES AND/OR PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE PROBLEMS. ON DEC 14, 2007, AFTER MY TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED AT TOWN EAST FORD IN MESQUITE TEXAS, I NOTICED A LARGE BUBBLE IN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE ALONG THE SEAM OF THE TIRE. SAID TIRE ID# DOT CODE A3KT 3MT 3906.THE TIRES HAD APPROX 21,250 MILES AT THE TIME. THEY HAVE BEEN ROTATED AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND I CAN SHOW THAT THE TIRE INFLATION IS CHECKED REGULARLY WHEN I GET THE OIL CHANGED. WHEN OUR LOCAL DEALER ASKED FORD TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE SEAT THEY WERE TOLD THAT THE FACTORY DIDN'T COVER MICE. WE LIVE IN A COLD CLIMATE. DUE TO INCORRECT DESIGN, THE QUICK CONNECTORS MAY NOT FULLY SEAT WITH THE TUBE INTERFACE, EVEN THOUGH THE PERSON MAKING THE CONNECTION MAY BELIEVE THAT THE QUICK CONNECTOR IS FULLY ATTACHED.

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 FORD FIVE HUNDRED AND MERCURY MONTEGO VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 5, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 11, 2006. THE FUEL TANKS MAY NOT HAVE CONSISTENT WELDS BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL FILLER NECK SPUD WHICH CAN AFFECT THE STRENGTH OF THE JOINT. SOME FUEL TANK SPUD WELDS MAY NOT PROVIDE THE EXPECTED STRENGTH IN THE EVENT OF A SEVERE REAR IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. AN IMPROPER WELD CAN RESULT IN A CRACK IN THE JOINT WHICH COULD ILLUMINATE THE EMISSIONS MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT, CAUSE A FUEL ODOR, OR ALLOW FUEL TO LEAK OUT.
