Summary

SMELLED GAS WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE. CONFIRMED A FUEL LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK BY OBSERVING A FUEL DRIP. CONTINUED DRIVING THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS. ON JUNE 15, 2020, I NOTICED A STRANGE NOISE AS I DROVE, SOMETHING RUBBING OR BUMPING ON THE FRAME UNDER THE CAR. WHILE DRIVING, THE NOISE INCREASED AND INTENSIFIED. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER AND CHECK UNDER THE CAR. TO MY HORROR I SAW THE GAS TANK DRAGGING ON THE ROAD. A TOW TRUCK WOULD NOT TOW THE VEHICLE. MY BROTHER AND I TIED THE TANK UP UNDER THE CAR USING A NYLON STRAP TO GET THE CAR HOME. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE CAR. I NOW HAVE AN AFTERMARKET TANK ON MY CAR. FORD DOES NOT MAKE THE TANK ANYMORE.THE CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN THE TANK FELL. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A FUEL TANK STRAP FAILURE. THE FUEL LEAK WAS ALSO DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE STRAP SUPPORTING THE TANK. *TR

I DID NOT CRASH THE CAR AND CONTINUED DRIVING WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE HAS 64,875 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS THE FIRST THIS HAS HAPPENED.

ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS BEEN ON EVER SINCE. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY DEALERSHIP, MARSHALL BROTHERS. I TOLD THE SERVICE GUY THAT THE LIGHT STAYS ON. HE SAID THAT HE HAS BEEN SEEING THIS PROBLEM IN OTHER MERCURIES AND THAT THEY SHOULD BE ISSUING A RECALL. HE SAID THAT BOTH SEATS IN THE FRONT HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT AND THAT IT WOULD COST $1500 FOR THE REPAIR. WHILE WAITING FOR THE RECALL, MARSHALL BROTHERS WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE RECALL WHILE DRIVING AROUND WITH THIS AIR BAG LIGHT ON. WHEN WILL THIS BE RECALLED? DOES THIS MEAN ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE ACTUAL AIR BAG? IS THIS A TAKATA AIR BAG? AS LONG AS THE ENGINE IS RUNNING THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON.

LEFT FRONT TIRE ON MY 2007 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS BLEW OUT WHILE DOING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY 85. I SLOWED DOWN UNTIL I COULD PULL OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE SHOULDER. AT THE SAME TIME I FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS VERY LOW.I INSTALLED THE DONUT SPARE ON THE LEFT FRONT AND PUMPED UP THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AND SLOWLY DROVE TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION TO INFLATE BOTH TIRES TO PROPER PRESSURE. I THEN WENT HOME. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO MY MERCURY DEALER, THEY INSPECTED THE BLOWN OUT TIRE AND TOLD ME THAT I WAS DRIVING ON AN IMPROPERLY INFLATED TIRE AND FORD MOTORS WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME ,BUT THEY OFFERED TO SELL ME A NEW TIRE AND MOUNT IT AT NO CHARGE. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND WENT TO A TIRE DEALER THAT I HAVE USED ON OTHER OCCASIONS FOR TIRES FOR OTHER CARS,WHEN HE WENT TO REMOVE THE BLOWN TIRE FROM THE RIM HE FOUND THAT THE VALVE STEM WAS CRACKED AND COULD HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE TIRE FAILURE,I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE LOW PRESSURE IN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HE PRESSED THE VALVE STEM SLIGHTLY SIDE WAYS AND THE AIR LEAKED OUT, HE DID THE SAME TO THE OTHER 2 TIRES AND THEY SEEMED OK. HE REMOVED THE RIGHT REAR TIRE IT SHOWS SEVERAL WORN SPOTS INSIDE AND HE RECOMMENDS CHANGING IT ALSO. HE TOLD ME THEIR IS A RECALL ON SOME VALVE STEMS,AND WE CHECKED OUT INFO ON GOOGLE AND FOUND THAT MY CAR HAS THE DILL-ACP TR-414 TIRE VALVES, HE REPLACED BOTH TIRE AND ALL 4 VALVE STEMS. I WENT TO MY DEALER THE OWNER AND TIRE EXPERT SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT ANY VALVE STEM PROBLEMS. I GAVE THE OWNER THE GOOGLE PRINT OUT HE SAID HE WOULD CHECK WITH FORD AND LET ME KNOW. 2007 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS AND 2007 FORD CROWN VICTORIA OWNER MANUALS INCORRECTLY STATE THAT THE 8TH CHARACTER OF THE VIN # MUST BE A "2" FOR THE CAR TO HAVE A FLEX FUEL ENGINE CAPABLE OF USING E-85. THIS IS INCORRECT. THE 8TH CHARACTER MUST BE A "V" FOR THE CAR TO HAVE THE FLEX FUEL ENGINE. THIS WILL BE VERY MISLEADING FOR CONSUMERS. THE COVER ON THE FUEL TANK LID SAYS ETHANOL OR UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY. MOST CONSUMERS WILL NOT KNOW THIS MEANS THEY CAN USE E-85 AS E-85 IS NOT MENTIONED ON THE GAS CAP OR COVER.
