Summary

PASSENGER SIDE REAR INNER FENDER WELL RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH ABOVE THE REAR SHOCK CAUSING THE SHOCK TO POTENTIALLY BREAK THROUGH AND DROP THE WHOLE SUSPENSION AND CAUSE AND ACCIDENT OR FLIP OVER IF IT BROKE THROUGH DURING A TURN. THE REST OF THE VEHICLE HARDLY HAS ANY RUST ON IT. THE MARINER SHARES THE SAME INNER SHEET METAL AS THE FORD ESCAPE AND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO ESCAPES. MY VEHICLE WAS STUDIED AT A FORD INVESTIGATION ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE WORKING ON A SOLUTION AND NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. THE EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT THE UNDERCOATING THEY USED OF THESE YEARS OF ESCAPE/MARINERS WAS FAULTY AND BROKE DOWN PREMATURELY CAUSING THE INNER FENDER EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. THIS IS ALSO HAPPENING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHERE THE UNDERCOATING IS START TO BREAK DOWN. THIS IS NOT A CASE OF MISUSE BY THE OWNER BUT AN ACTUAL DESIGN FLAW AND A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AS THIS COULD CAUSE A LOT OF HARM. LUCKILY I HEARD THE LOUD KNOCKING FROM THE REAR END AND STOPPED DRIVING IT.

Summary

THE BRAKE SYSTEM'S HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT ("HCU"). ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR WHILE TRYING TO BRAKE RESULTING IN NO BRAKING ACTION (IE., VEHICLE NOT SLOWING). THIS MIGHT HAPPEN FOR ONE OR TWO PEDAL DEPRESSIONS BEFORE THERE IS ANY SLOWING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM HAS PLACED ME IN SITUATIONS WHERE I HAVE TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO NOT HIT A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, OR TRAVELING INTO A CONTROLLED (WITH STOP SIGNS) INTERSECTION. BELOW THERE IS A SPACE TO SPECIFY 'WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN.' I AM INPUTTING THE MOST RECENT DATE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST TEN TIMES BEFORE THIS.

Summary

THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY MOTHER'S 2007 MARINER HYBRID WITH 72,000 MILES DUE TO FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE FORUMS, I FOUND THIS TO BE A RATHER COMMON ISSUE ON THE 05-07 MARINER AND ESCAPE HYBRIDS. THE REPAIR WILL COST JUST UNDER A THOUSAND DOLLARS ONCE YOU LOCATE THE PART. AFTER HAVING IT DIAGNOSED AT MY FORD DEALER, I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE TO SEE IF THEY COULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE, AND THEY ACTED LIKE IT WAS SOMETHING THEY WERE UNAWARE OF EVEN THOUGH IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH SEARCHING TO SEE IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. ALSO IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. THE SAME PART WAS RECALLED ON THE 08-11 ESCAPE AND MARINER HYBRIDS, AND THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED THE 05-07 AS WELL. I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY 15 MONTH OLD SON DRIVING ROUGHLY 45 MILES AN HOUR ON A MULTILANE STREET WHEN THE ABS LIGHT (ORANGE) AND A EXCLAMATION POINT LIGHT (RED) TURNED ON AND MY DIGITAL READ OUT SAID SERVICE BRAKES. I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT I LOST 75% OF MY BRAKING POWER. DUE TO THE LACK OF STOPPING POWER I HAD TO SWERVE ONTO A SHOULDER TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AS MY CAR GRADUALLY SLOWED DOWN. I ENDED UP IN A TURN LANE WHICH THANKFULLY WAS CLEAR AT THE TIME. I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT MY CAR REQUIRED AND EXTRA 5 TO 6 VEHICLE LENGTHS TO STOP. HAD THE TURNING LANE BEEN OCCUPIED A SIGNIFICANT COLLISION WOULD HAD ENSUED. VERY FRIGHTENING ESPECIALLY WITH MY SON IN THE CAR! I AM VERY UPSET TO SEE THAT THERE EXISTS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL TO FIX THIS. *TR

MY SON WAS COMING TO AN INTERSECTION OF A MAIN ROAD FROM A SIDE STREET AND WHEN HE WENT TO STEP ON THE BRAKE THE SUV WOULD NOT STOP HE DIDN'T EXPECT THIS AND PUSHED DOWN AS HARD AS HE COULD IF STOPPED OUT IN THE MAIN ROAD LUCKY NO ONE WAS OUT THERE. I HAVE CHECKED ON THE WEB AND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM IT SEAM TO BE SOMETHING WITH THE ELECTRIC BRAKE SYSTEM THAT STOPS THE SUV. I USES MOSTLY THE REGENERATING SYSTEM TO STOP THE SUV NOT THE PAD ONLY A LITTLE IS USE SO IF THE SYSTEM HAS A PROBLEM YOU HAVE A DANGER OF NOT STOPPING AS QUICKLY AS EXPECTED..... YOU MAY HAVE AN MAJOR PROBLEM FROM WHAT I UNDER STAND THERE ARE A FEW THING THAT CAN CAUSE THIS CONTITION.... *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY '07 MARINER HYBRID ON THE NJ TURNPIKE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE RED TRIANGLE & MESSAGE "STOP SAFELY NOW" APPEARED ON THE DASH. THE PROPULSION SYSTEM STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. HAVING AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER WHILE TRAVELING ON THE TURNPIKE WAS VERY SCARY AND I FELT UNSAFE KNOWING THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ANY OPTIONS BUT TO EXIT THE FREEWAY IMMEDIATELY. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER LETTING THE SYSTEM SIT FOR ABOUT 20-MINUTES I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND RESUMED MY TRAVEL. SAME ERROR MESSAGE AND LOSS OF PROPULSION HAPPENED AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I NAVIGATED THE HYBRID TO A FORD DEALER IN NJ. IT'S VERY SCARY TO BE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THEN A SECOND LATER NOT HAVE ANY PROPULSION. THIS COULD BE HANDLED MUCH BETTER AND I RECOMMEND THE ENGINE CONTINUE TO PERFORM SO THAT I CAN SAFELY EXIT THE FREEWAY WITH MORE TIME. *JS

MY 22 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2007 MERCURY MARINER HYBRID BACK TO COLLEGE AFTER SPRING BREAK AT HOME. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH IN THE FAST LANE AND THE ENGINE JUST QUIT. SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR SEVERAL HOURS AT FREEWAY SPEED. THE "STOP SAFELY" LIGHT COMES ON AND SHE WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER ON ELECTRIC POWER. VERY SCARY! SHE WAITED 10 MINUTES AND IT FIRED BACK UP AND SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON TO SCHOOL ANOTHER HALF HOUR. BUT SHE IS NOW UNSURE WHEN AND IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED FOUR YEARS AGO AND IT NOW HAS 70,000 MILES. I JUST GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. *TR

TRAVELLING ON ILLINOIS I-55 SOUTH EARLY IN THE MORNING. ABOUT 2 MILES NORTH OF US HIGHWAY 6 EXIT CAR LOST POWER AND I NOTICED "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE. I PULLED OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD. CAR STARTED RIGHT UP. I WENT ABOUT A 2 MILES AND CAR DID THE EXACT SAME THING. I WAS REAL CLOSE TO THE GOLF COURSE AND MADE IT THERE. NO PROBLEMS ON THE WAY HOME OR SINCE. CAR NEVER ACTED OR SOUNDED ?FUNNY?. CAR REPAIRED BY LOCAL LINCOLN FORD DEALER. THEY SAID THEY REPLACED AN ENGINE COOLANT PUMP ($695 INCLUDING LABOR AND TAXES) THAT IS UNIQUE TO HYBRID. THEY SAID I WAS THE THIRD HYBRID THIS WEEK-END--PROBABLY HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH COLD WEATHER. COOLANT PUMP HAS A DIFFERENT DESIGN SO THEY MAY HAVE HAD ORIGINAL DESIGN PROBLEMS. *TT

I OWN A 2007 MERCURY MARINER HYBRID AND I WAS TRAVELING FROM VIRGINIA WHERE I PREVIOUSLY LIVED TO NEW YORK FOR A JOB INTERVIEW. WHILE TRAVELING ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE AT A SPEED OF AROUND 73 MILES PER HOUR A LIGHT CAME ON IN MY VEHICLE THAT STATED "STOP VEHICLE SAFELY." I WAS TRAVELING IN THE FURTHEST LEFT HAND LANE OF 4 AT THE TIME AND WITHIN ABOUT 2 OR 3 SECONDS OF THIS LIGHT COMING ON I LOST GAS ENGINE POWER TO MY VEHICLE. I WAS HONESTLY SCARED FOR MY LIFE BECAUSE THE ONLY PORTION OF MY VEHICLE THAT WAS WORKING IS THE ELECTRIC ENGINE THAT ALLOWS THE VEHICLE TO GO AROUND 25 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL MY VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROAD WHILE NEARLY GETTING HIT BY 3 OR 4 CARS/TRACTOR TRAILERS. I CONTACTED FORD/MERCURY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY WERE GOING TO COME OUT, BUT THEM THE VEHICLE RAN FINE. ON MY RETURN TRIP THE VEHICLE DID THIS ANOTHER 3 OR 4 TIMES. IMMEDIATELY WHEN I GOT BACK TO VIRGINIA I TOOK IT TO BEACH FORD AND THEY FOUND THAT THE COOLANT PUMP FOR THE HYBRID SYSTEM HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I QUESTIONED WHY THE GAS ENGINE WOULD SHUT DONE AND BEACH FORD AND FORD CORPORATE BOTH TOLD ME THE SAME THING, THIS WAS A SAFETY PRECAUTION SET INTO THE VEHICLES COMPUTER. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS IS NOT SAFE AT ALL AND LOSING POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND CAUSING ACCIDENTS IS NOT A SAFETY PRECAUTION AT ALL IT IS DANGEROUS. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY FURTHER EXPLAINATIONS FROM FORD EXCEPT FOR THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I HAVE A 15 MONTH OLD SON AND THIS IS NOT SAFE, I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN WITH HIM IN THE VEHICLE. I AM VERY SURPRISED THIS SAFETY PRECAUTION WOULD PASS GOVERNMENT STANDARDS. I AM LOOKING FOR YOU TO LOOK INTO THIS AND GET BACK TO ME BECAUSE FORD SHOULD NOT BE PRODUCING VEHICLES THAT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF A COOLANT PUMP GOING BAD. *TR
