Summary

Recall failure of airbag seat occupancy sensor. The car was taken to authorized dealer in 2018 for the recall. The sensor failed in 2021. The recall did not replace the seat sensor but only added reinforcement tape. In 2021 the air bag lights came on. An authorized dealer investigation found the airbag seat sensor had failed. GM was notifed through the dealer and replied the warranty was over and they are not responsible for the recall repair after the warranty period. The recall rectification appears to be poorly designed leading to eventual failure of the sensor leaving passengers unprotected.. Please follow-up with GM on this issue. I'm sure thousands of cars are affected.

Summary

The recall that GM did was supposed to fix the problem but did not. I have a 07 Saturn Sky Redline. and was serviced for recall # 17036 or NHTSA recall number 17V061000 three years ago. This Recall was due to the faulty Passenger Pressure Module GM part number 84447741. I bought the car in to the dealer and waited two months for a NO, and then call the Saturn customer service recall line and talked with Camile. I explained that due to covid and no place to go the car has been driven a little over 3,000 miles and approximately my wife who weighs 130 pounds has set in the seat for 500 miles. Camile stated that due to the 1-year recall warranty for the passenger pressure module no matter how my miles it was driven. I informed Camile that when my wife sits in the seat the passenger airbag switches on and off constantly and that the recall that GM did was supposed to fix the problem but did not that I hope she understood that. I am the second owner and bought the car with 32000 miles, the Passenger pressure module has been changed three times since I have owned the car.

I brought my 2007 Saturn Sky in for Recall repair of passenger seat airbag presence system.... The dealership added 4 retaining clips and a reinforcement strip to the passenger seat as part of the recall. Now my airbag warning light is always on and my dashboard info system says ' service airbag' The passenger seat sensor was never replaced as the recall states it should have been.

Summary

The passenger seat airbag sensor has failed for a second time. This issue was the subject of a GM recall 17036 dated May 2017. Under this recall my seat sensor failure was corrected. This car is driven very little (about 2000 miles per year average) and 99 percent of the time with no passenger. Battle Field Chevrolet says the warranty for the recall has expired and gave a written quote R.O. 6030264/1 dated 4/12/21 of $792.88 to repair/correct the failure. I have paper copies of the recall notice and the reference quote. This is a vehicle safety issue. A Passenger would be at risk riding in the seat until repaired. The vehicle cannot pass the annual state safety inspection until corrected. This is a design flaw on the part of General Motors and should again be repaired at no expense to the vehicle owner.

Summary

HVAC blower motor stopped working via the control knob. Through online forums & repair guides, I did some troubleshooting to determine which component I might need to order (i.e. fuse, relay, blower motor assembly, blower resistor, etc). During that research, many others noted that the blower resistor is known to become defective, and that melting of the resistor & the harness connector are common. This is exactly the situation I found, and it is not at all unreasonable to conclude that this could have easily resulted in a fire. These same parts are shared by the Pontiac Solstice and the Hummer H3 (for which, I believe, a recall was issued). The parts to fix this problem are not overly expensive & readily available -- and the replacement process is not difficult. What IS difficult is to think this is a known problem which can (& has) caused vehicle fires, and yet no recall or official notice has been issued to warn vehicle owners.

THESE CARS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR, WHICH TURNS ON AND OFF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. WHILE GM DID ISSUE A RECALL ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE PARTS USED WERE A SIMPLE "BAND-AID" FIX. MY CAR WAS REPAIRED A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO, AND HAS DONE 5000 MILES SINCE, AND THE "REPAIRED" PART HAS FAILED AGAIN. GM IS REFUSING TO FIX THIS UNDER RECALL AND/OR WARRANTY AND THE COST TO FIX THIS IS $1000! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED, OR THE RECALL SHOULD BE ACTIVE ONCE AGAIN! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER SATURN SKY AND PONTIAC SOLSTICE OWNERS AS WELL.

THIS VEHICLE HAD A RECALL FOR A FAULTY SWITCH UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT WAS TO TELL THE AIR BAG A PASSENGER WAS IN THE SEAT. I COMPLETED THE RECALL AT GENILLINI MOTORS IN WOODBINE, NJ IN APRIL OF 2018. THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH HAS FAILED (6/2019). THE SYSTEM, AGAIN, NO LONGER DETECTS A PASSENGER AND I SUSPECT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. THIS CAR HAS HAD LESS 1000 MILES OF USE SINCE THE REPAIR AND THERE IS RARELY A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. BOTH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DETECTION LIGHT AND THE AIR BAG DASH LIGHT GO ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. BOTH USUALLY ARE ON WHEN THE CAR STARTS BUT SOMETIME GOES OFF WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE CAR IS MOVING. I CONTACTED GM AND GOT NO WHERE WITH THEM. I'VE ALSO RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON SATURN SKY BLOGS AND CAR REVIEWS, INCLUDING GMS WEBSITE. ATTACH IS A SCREEN SHOT OF MY CHAT WITH GM

Summary

I BOUGHT A SATURN SKY REDLINE LAST YEAR WITH 31000 MILES. SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT THE "SERVICE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG" LIGHT CAME ON. I AM NOW FINDING OUT THAT THIS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PONTIAC SOLSTICE AND SATURN SKY MODELS WITH LOW MILEAGE. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS NO RECALLS ISSUED. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IN THE CAR IS RENDERED USELESS. GM WANTS AROUND $700 FOR LABOR AND $300 FOR PARTS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAPPENS ON ALMOST ALL OF THESE CARS WITH VERY LOW MILEAGE. GM HAS ISSUED RECALLS FOR CADILLAC, BUICK AND OTHER MODELS OF THEIR CARS BUT NOT THE KAPPA VEHICLES. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THESE VECHICLES HAVE NO WORKING AIRBAGS! THE CONSUMER IS EXPECTED TO PAY UPWARDS OF $1000 TO GET IT FIXED WITH PARTS THAT ARE GOING TO FAIL AGAIN? I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER GM VEHICLE AGAIN UNLESS THEY DO THE RIGHT THING. I DON'T HAVE A WORKING DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER AND HAVE NO ODOMETER THANKS TO THIS PROBLEM.

Summary

MY 2007 SATURN SKY WITH 81,000 MILES ON IT DISPLAYED "SERVICE AIR BAG", TOOK IT TO GM DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM (PPS) FAULT AND SAID THE COST FOR REPAIR WOULD BE $1000+. I PAID THEM THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TIME ($105) AND ELECTED TO REPAIR MYSELF. REMOVAL OF PASSENGER SEAT BOTTOM COVER INDICATED A BREAK IN THE FLEXIBLE CIRCUIT PAD WHICH DETECTS PASSENGER PRESENCE. COST FOR REPLACEMENT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY (INCLUDES PPS) FROM GM IS OVER $400 BUT STILL CHEAPER THAN PAYING DEALER FOR THIS WORK. THIS IS DISCUSSED ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE SKY & SOLSTICE AND GM RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON OTHER VEHICLES HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES (IE: CADILLAC CTS) BUT GM REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THE SKY OR SOLSTICE. THIS IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR FOR SUCH AN IMPORTANT SAFETY DEVICE WITH KNOWN FLAWS IN IT (PLASTIC RIBBON CABLES CANNOT WITHSTAND REPEATED FORCE APPLICATIONS FOREVER). I UNDERSTAND MOST PEOPLE ELECT TO JUST CONTINUE DRIVING WITH THIS ISSUE, DUE TO THE EXTREMELY HIGH COST OF REPAIRS, WHICH LEAVES AN ADULT PASSENGER UNPROTECTED DURING A CRASH WITH AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT (PPS DEACTIVATES PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IF CHILD IS PRESENT. GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS OR PROVIDE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS SAFETY CRITICAL ITEM. *TR

THIS IS A SEVERE ISSUE JUST BECAUSE NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED DOESN'T LESSEN THE IMPORTANCE THIS COULD BE HANDLED BY GM BY VOLUNTEERING TO REPLACE AND REPAIR WHEN A VEHICLE COMES TO THEIR SERVICE CENTER FOR THE DEFECT

I PURCHASED A USED SATURN SKY 2007 VEHICLE. JULY 26TH 2016. I NOTICED IMMEDIATELY THE SAME DAY AS A MATTER OF FACT A NOISE FROM THE BACK END. I TOOK CARE BACK A AND THEY PUT GREASE IN DIFERENTIAL.. BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT WAS WORSE THAN EVER. I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN. AFTER THEY TRIED LOOKING AT MY CAR. I CALLED MY WARRANTY COMPANY AND ASK IF THEY COULD RECOMMEND A SERVICE CENTER TO TAKE MY CAR TO HAVE IT SERVICED. WHICH I THEN PROCEEDED TO DO. AND MY VEHICLE IS STILL THERE. THEY SENT A USED DIFERENTIAL THAT WAS BAD. I ASKED THE WARRANTY REPRESENTATIVE AT THAT TIME TO SEND ME A NEW ONE WHICH MY CONTRACT STATES CLEARLY I CAN HAVE. BUT ONCE AGAIN THEY SENT ANOTHER BAD USED ONE. AND THEN ANOTHER. ALONG WITH TWO OTHERS THAT WERE NEVER DELIVERED. AND I'VE BEEN OFFERED A RENTAL FOR 8 DAYS TOTAL. AND IT IS NOW OCT 18TH.2016. I HAVE NO CAR. GM HAS THIS PART NOW ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. AND DOES NOT KNOW WHEN A PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT DIFFERENT MACHINE SHOPS TO SEE IF IT CAN BE REBUILT THEY HAVE TRIED TO FIND PARTS TO REBUILD IT THERE ARE NONE. I FEEL I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO FIX THIS VEHICLE. AND IT'S A LEMON.

Summary

THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT FOR THE LAST YEAR AND ON A RECENT TRIP FAILED TO FUNCTION DURING ACTUAL DRIVING, DISABLING THE AIR BAG, TURNED ON THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" DISPLAY AND LIGHT AND WOULD NOT CLEAR. THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN BECAME PERMANENT. THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED AND IT WAS A INTERMITTENT FAILURE THAT BECAME PERMANENT. SINCE THE FAIRLURE OCCURRED WHILE AWAY FROM HOME AND ON THE WEEKEND, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SHOP WHO READ THE CODE (B0081) TRIED TO FURTHER DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND THEN INDICATED THE MOST PROBABLE CAUSE WAS THE PPU UNIT (WHATEVER THAT IS) THERE WERE NONE AVAILABLE LOCALLY SO DROVE THE CAR HOME (COLUMBUS OH TO DALLAS, TX) AND PARKED IT BEING CAREFUL WITH MY DRIVING AS MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. DOING INTERNET SEARCHES INDICATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAR AND GM HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT BECAUSE THE CAR IS NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM EXISTED DURING THE ACTUAL PRODUCTION CYCLE. WHY DOES G?M NOT RECALL THE CAR WITH AN OBVIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT CAN AFFECT LIVES??

AFTER A GM IGNITION RECALL ON SATURN SKY--WE RECEIVED NOTICE AND TOOK OUR CAR TO THE GM SHOP TO DO THE WORK. HOWEVER NOW THE "AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT" STAYS ON---WE DID MUCH RESEARCH AND REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT CUSHION AND SENSOR-----THIS DID NOT RESULT IN THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT GOING OFF--WE TOOK IT TO THE GM DEALER TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHY THE SEAT/SENSOR REPLACEMENT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATE THE SEAT IS PROPERLY INSTALLED AND IT IS NOT CAUSING THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ISSUE---BUT THEY DID NOT TELL US WHAT WAS THE DIAGNOSED PROBLEM. MANY SATURN SKY OWNERS HAVE WRITTEN TO YOU AND ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR FAMILIES, THE FACT THEY CANNOT PASS STATE REQUIRED SAFETY INSPECTIONS; WHICH RENDERS THEIR GM PRODUCT COMPLETELY USELESS. GM HAS NEVER RESPONDED TO THESE ISSUES FOR SATURN SKY OWNERS OR FOR PONTIAC SOLSTICE OWNERS AND THE NHTSA LIKEWISE HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE, DESPITE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. MANY OTHER AIR BAG ISSUES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED BY YOUR BOARD FOR A VARIETY OF VEHICLES---WHY NOT THIS ONE? I WILL BE APPROACHING MY STATE AND FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVES WITH THIS CONCERN AS WELL; IT IS A PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR IS FAULTY. IT THEN SHUTS DOWN THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM. ONCE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SENSOR FAILS, IT STORES A CODE IN THE SRS MODULE AND LIGHTS UP THE 'SERVICE AIR BAG' LIGHT. THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BECOMES DISABLED ONCE THIS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. THIS CAN POSE AN INCREASED RISK OF INJURY TO THE PASSENGER IN AN ACCIDENT. NOT GOOD THAT GM DOES NOT CARE IF YOUNG KIDS THAT RIDE WITH THEIR GRAND MOTHER GETS FATALLY INJURED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. (NO AIR BAG WILL DEPLOY). Summary

THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM MODULE HAS GONE OUT. I HAVE DONE ALL CIRCUIT TESTING, RESEARCH AND PRICED THE REPAIRS. I AM A SERVICE TECHNICIAN OF 6 YEARS AND HAVE WORKED FOR GM FOR THE FIRST 3. ALMOST EVERY SATURN SKY I KNOW OF HAS HAD THE PPS MODULE FAIL, AND WE HAVE MANY REPORTS AND PICTURES OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING DURING COLLISIONS, SOMETIMES THE DRIVER DOES NOT EITHER. THIS IS CLOSE TO A $1000 FIX, CONSIDERING THE PRICE OF THE PPS MODULE BY ITSELF IS $500+ FROM THE DEALER. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, AND IN MOTION, CITY AND HIGHWAY WHEN THIS FAILURE OCCURED. THE PPS MODULE DOES NOT RECOGNIZE A PASSENGER IN THE CAR AND THEREFORE DOES NOT TURN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ON. THE FIRST TIME IT DID IT, 10 MINUTES INTO DRIVING, IT TURNED ON AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT OFF. A FEW MINUTES LATER IT CYCLED BACK OFF, LIT UP THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND SAID, 'SERVICE AIR BAG,' ON THE DIC. IT CYCLED ONE MORE TIME TO ON, AND THEN BACK OFF A FEW MINUTES LATER AND NOW STAYS OFF. THE ENTIRE TIME IT CYCLED BACK AND FORTH THERE WAS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. AS A TECHNICIAN AND A CAR ENTHUSIAST, I AM WELL AWARE THAT CARS HAVE TO BE MAINTAINED AND EXPENSIVE PARTS WILL BE BOUGHT OVER THE YEARS, BUT THE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SATURN SKY'S AIR BAG SYSTEM IS CONCERNING AND I WOULD HOPE, WITH AS MANY RECALLS HAVE GONE OUT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, THAT NHTSA, AND GM, WOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT LIKE PEOPLE DID IN THE COBALT IGNITION RECALLS. I ALSO HAVE A COBALT, SO I KNOW ALL ABOUT THAT AS WELL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, AND I HOPE SOMEONE WILL ACTUALLY INVESTIGATE THIS INSTEAD OF IGNORING IT AND PEOPLE GET HURT. IF IT WAS YOUR OWN VEHICLE, YOU WOULD BE ALARMED AS WELL. ALSO, THERE IS CONCERN THAT THE 2005-07 CADILLAC CTS AIRBAG RECALL WAS THE SAME PART NUMBER USED IN THE 2007 SKY, POSSIBLY 07-10. I DO NOT HAVE PROOF OF THAT, YET. *TR

TOOK CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALER JBA CHEVROLET AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAD BLOWN OUT AND THE REPAIR COULD BE BETWEEN $2800-$3500. I HAVE SEEN ON THE WEB SITES THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF REAR IN SATURN AND OTHER GM CARS. I'M LUCKY THAT THE REAR DID NOT LOCK UP THIS COULD OF BEEN A BIG PROBLEM. IN 2009, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY FAIL TO DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A PASSENGER. THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT LIGHT SOMETIMES REGISTERED "OFF", EVEN WHEN PASSENGER WAS PRESENT. BECAUSE IT WAS INTERMITTENT, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN 2014, THE FAILURE BECAME EVER-PRESENT, WITH ADDITIONAL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD, THE DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM, AND AN AUDIBLE WARNING CHIME ON IGNITION START. REPEATED CALLS TO GM HAVE HAD NO RESULTS. THE COMPANY LINE IS THAT THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND THE PRODUCT LINE HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. THE COST OF REPAIR IS SUBSTANTIAL, APPROACHING $1,000, FOR AN AIRBAG SENSOR MODULE LOCATED BENEATH THE PASSENGER SEAT. ALTHOUGH A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2007 SATURN SKY AND PONTIAC SOLSTICE CARS, GM SAYS THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE DESERVING A RECALL. *TR

DASHBOARD MESSAGE CENTER INDICATING A "SERVICE AIR BAG" MESSAGE WHEN CAR IS STARTED. RECEIVE THE MESSAGE EVERY TIME KEY IS TURNED ON... I UNDERSTAND FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THE SATURN SKY THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE RELATED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR. GM WILL NOT COVER THE COST TO REPLACE THE SENSOR, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A PART OF THE VEHICLE SAFETY SYSTEM. THE FAILURE OF THIS COMPONENT SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A NORMAL "WEAR AND TEAR" COMPONENT AND/OR A PERIODIC MAINTENANCE ISSUE. GM HAS ISSUED RECALLS ON OTHER GM MODELS WITH THE SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUES, SO WHY NOT THE SATURN SKY. IT SEEMS GM NEEDS GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION AND/OR LAWSUITS, BEFORE IT WILL TAKE ACTION. AS A SKY OWNER I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE CONCERNED WHETHER OR NOT MY AIR BAG WILL DEPLOY, DUE TO A DEFECT IN A SAFETY SYSTEM. A CAR OWNER'S EXPECTATION IS THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE, JUST LIKE THE EXPECTATION THE SEAT BELT WILL FUNCTION PROPERLY DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

2007 SATURN SKY 25000 MILES I JUST TOOK MY SKY INTO THE DEALER FOR THE IGNITION RECALL, AND WHILE THERE I HAD THEM RUN DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON MY AIRBAG SYSTEM AT THE COST OF 113 DOLLARS. IT HAD CODE B0081 ( PASSENGER PRESENT MODULE FAILURE). THIS I EXPECTED FROM READING ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN FILED. I HAVE READ COMPLAINTS ON OTHER SATURN FORUMS, WHERE SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE (1000 DOLLARS), JUST TO HAVE IT RETURN IN LESS THAN A YEAR. I DON?T THINK THE PUBLIC SHOULD HAVE TO PAY SUCH AN EXPENSE FOR A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE HANDLED AS A SAFETY RECALL. THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS FILED ON THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR

AT TIMES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR SHOWS OFF WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS. MOST OF THE TIME THE INDICATOR IS ON WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE CAR AND WHEN THE INDICATOR IS OFF I HAVE TRIED TO DRIVE TO THE NEAREST SATURN DEALER BUT THE INDICATOR THEN SHOWS ON WHEN I GET TO THE DEALER(WHICH WAS 50 MILES AWAY). FINALLY WHEN THE RECENT GM IGNITION SWITCH RECALL DIRECTED ME TO A CLOSER GM DEALER I BROUGHT MY CAR IN AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE AIR BAG ISSUE. FOR TWO DAYS THEY COULD NOT GET THE AIR BAG INDICATOR TO SHOW OFF WITH A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, HOWEVER ON THE THIRD DAY THE INDICATOR SHOWED OFF. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE AIR BAG SENSOR IN THE SEAT. TO REPLACE THE PART($500.00) AND LABOR COST IT WOULD COST ME $800.00. THEY TOLD ME OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I FEEL THIS SHOULD ALSO BE A RECALL ITEM. *TR

MY VEHICLE'S AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD IT INSPECTED BY KEYES CHEVROLET, A REGISTERED SATURN SERVICER. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG MODULE WAS FAULTY AND IT WOULD BE ABOUT 900-1000 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. THEY DIDN'T PRINT ME THE ESTIMATE OR THE PART NUMBER. I WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO SAID THE PART WAS INDEED AROUND 500 DOLLARS, BUT THE AIRBAG SENSOR SHOULD NOT BE FAULTY AFTER ONLY 62,000 MILES. MY EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN THROUGH FORD REFUSES TO COVER THIS EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. IF ANYTHING EVER HAPPENED TO ME OR MY PASSENGER DUE TO THIS ISSUE I WOULD ABSOLUTELY FILE A LAWSUIT. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY NEARLY A THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FIX ESPECIALLY SINCE I AM GOING THROUGH A RECALL RIGHT NOW WITH THE IGNITION- AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN, MAY CAR COULD SLIP INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE WHILE IN PARK AND THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE 2 MONTHS TO GET THE RECALL PARTS IN? THE RECENT RECALL ON IGNITION SWITCHES FOR GM VEHICLES IS GREAT HOWEVER THERE ARE A NUMBER OF GM CARS THAT HAVE AN ADDITIONAL PROBLEM AFFECTING THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG BESIDE THE IGNITION SWITCH. THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLES HAVE AN INFERIOR PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR THAT GOES OUT AND WILL NOT DEPLOY THE AIR BAG FOR THE PASSENGER OF THE CAR. GM IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THIS AND REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM FOR THE OWNERS. CARS AFFECTED ARE THE SATURN SKY, PONTIAC SOLSTICE, PONTIAC G6, CHEVROLET MALIBU AND SOME MODEL CORVETTES. THE ITEM COSTS CONSUMERS 1000.00 TO FIX AND IT IS POSSIBLE IT WILL GO OUT AGAIN IN MONTHS AFTER REPLACED. GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS HAVE HAD MY SATURN SKY TESTED AND IT IS IDENTIFIED AS THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR. THE FEDS NEED TO GET GM TO BE MORE HONEST AND INCLUDE THIS ITEM AS A SAFETY RECALL AS WELL. IT APPEARS THAT SINCE NO PASSENGERS HAVE BEEN KILLED THAT IT IS NOT A CONCERN. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS WELL. *TR

I WENT INTO A PARKING LOT AND OVER A SPEED BUMP WITH A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. AS SOON AS WE WENT OVER THE SPEED BUMP THE LIGHT ON MY DASH THAT SHOWS AN AIRBAG BEING DEPLOYED LIT UP. NOW THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE FOR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS BAD. SINCE THIS IS A "SMART" AIRBAG SYSTEM THE MODULE HAS TO BE CHANGED AND CALIBRATED AT THE DEALER. THIS WAS ONE OF A VERY FEW TIME I'VE HAD A PASSENGER IN MY CAR AND SEEMS BEYOND COMPREHENSION THAT THIS SENSOR WOULD BREAK WITH SUCH LIMITED USE AND COST $1000 TO REPLACE. I HAVE FOUND THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT MANY THOUSANDS OF GM PRODUCTS ARE HAVING VERY SIMILAR ISSUES WITH VERY SIMILAR COST TO REPAIR. SURE SEEMS LIKE GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT HAS FOUND THAT IT'S MORE PROFITABLE TO KEEP REPLACING THEM AT THE OWNERS COST! *TR

Summary

2007 SATURN SKY REDLINE SITTING AT AN IDLE PASSENGER SAT DOWN IN THE SEAT AND SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED, DIC SHOWED "SERVICE AIRBAG SYSTEM", PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT SHOWED OFF. UPON TAKING TO DEALER PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE PASSENGER PRESENCE SYSTEM (PPS) SENSOR FAILED. THE SENSOR FAILED DO TO THE FLEXING OF THE SENSOR AS PASSENGERS GOT IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE NOT FROM NEGLECT BY THE OWNER. THE TOTAL IS $1125.00 WITH PART SHIPPING INSTALL AND ZEROING OF NEW THE SENSOR. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SATURN SKY AND PONTIAC SOLSTICE, THERE HAS BEEN REPORTS OF THE REPLACEMENT SENSORS FAILING IN AS LITTLE AS A YEAR. WHEN THIS PART FAILS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT RISE IN THE POTENTIAL INJURY OF THE PASSENGER DURING A CRASH. WITH THE ABUNDANCE OF THIS PROBLEM IT AN OBVIOUS DEFECT OF THE PART THE ONLY WAY AN OWNER CAN STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING IS TO NOT HAVE ANYONE OR ANYTHING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT TO AVOID FLEXING OF THE SENSOR. THE PRICE FOR THE REPAIR, THE POTENTIAL INJURY AND HOW OFTEN THIS IS HAPPENING, I BELIEVE IS A VALID REASON FOR A SAFETY RECALL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR BY THE MANUFACTURER OR DEALER. *TR

Summary

THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR HAS FAILED IN MY CAR. THIS HAS RESULTED IN A CONDITION IN WHICH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS PERMANENTLY DISABLED, A POTENTIAL LARGE SAFETY HAZARD. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG THE SATURN SKY AND PONTIAC SOLSTICE CARS, AND THERE IS NO OUTSTANDING RECALL TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY OF THESE CARS ON THE ROAD TODAY THAT ARE OPERATING WITHOUT A FUNCTIONAL PASSENGER AIR BAG, PUTTING PASSENGERS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER RISK FOR INJURY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. GIVEN THE PREVALENCE OF THIS ISSUE, ITS SEVERITY, AND THE COST TO REPAIR, I FEEL AS THOUGH A SAFETY RECALL IS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED FOR THESE MODELS. *TR

THE AIR BAG SEAT SENSOR IN MY VEHICLE FAILED AND ANY PASSENGER IN THE CAR FACES RISK IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE OWNER'S COST TO FIX THIS ITEM IS PROHIBITIVE ($700 - $1000), AND THAT THE EARLY FAILURE OF THIS PART IS SOMEWHAT COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE. I THINK BECAUSE OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS IT IS A PROBLEM AND MAY CAUSE SOMEONE TO GET REALLY HURT. LEFT DEFECTIVE COULD BE REALLY SERIOUS TO A PASSENGER. *TR

I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO BILL FOX CHEVY FOR SERVICING AS DIRECTED BY GM (SATURN) CUSTOMER SERVICE CASE NUMBER [XXX] FOR GRINDING NOISE AND FLUID LEAKING ON THE 2007 SATURN SKY (21433 MILES). THERE WAS A RECALL ( 07V58900) FOR A FAULTY SEAL ON THIS MODELS DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. IT SHOWED THE RECALL WAS HANDLED ON APRIL 29,2008 BY LAKESIDE OF SATURN WHICH I DID NOT RECALL. AFTER INVESTIGATION BY THE DEALER IT WAS AGREED THAT THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS GRINDING AND THE LEFT DIFFERENTIAL/AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING FLUID. THE REPAIRS WERE MADE AND HAD TO PAY $ 455.63 FOR THE REPAIRS ON THIS DEFECTIVE DESIGNED PART. GM DENIED MY REQUEST FOR COVERING THIS UNDER THE RECALL NOTICE. THIS IS MY WIFE'S VEHICLE ONLY DRIVEN IN THE SUMMER. SHE DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS AN ISSUE. I DROVE IT AND NOTICED RIGHT AWAY AND FOUND THE RECALL AND CONTACTED GM(SATURN) CS. I STOPPED MY WIFE FROM DRIVING BECAUSE THE RECALL STATED THE DIFFERENTIAL COULD LOCKUP AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHICH IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. ALSO I HAD A 100K WARRANTY ON THE DRIVETRAIN WHICH THEY SAID HIT 5 YRS IN AUGUST 2012. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS RECALL ON THE TOTAL DIFFERENTIAL EXT/INT PARTS. OUR OFFICE HAS PREVIOUSLY FILED A COMPLAINT IN REGARD TO A 2007 SATURN SKY THAT WE BELIEVE IS DEFECTIVE. MY CLIENT'S NAME IS MATT CASTRO AND THE PENDING ODI NUMBER IS 10237967. ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2008 GENERAL MOTORS SENT OUT AN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR TO CONDUCT AN INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSPECTION, MR. BRISCOE NOTED SOMETHING PECULIAR ON THE SDM INFORMATION BOX. MR. BRISCOE, THE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR, FOUND THAT THE INFORMATION GIVEN ON THE BOX STATED THE MY CLIENT MATT CASTRO DID NOT HAVE HIS SEAT BELT ON AT THE TIME THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. HOWEVER, POLICE REPORTS AND POLICE STATEMENTS PROVIDE THAT MY CLIENT HAD TO HAVE HIS SAFETY BELT CUT AWAY TO EXTRACT HIM FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS DISCREPANCY IS OF MONUMENTAL IMPORTANCE IF WE ARE TO RELY ON THE ACCURACY OF THE SDM DEVICES. SDM DEVICES MAIN PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE ACCURATE DATA AT THE TIME AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. A DEFECTIVE DEVICE FAILING TO RECORD ACCURATE DATA COMPROMISES ALL FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT YOU ADDRESS THE DEFECTIVE SDM DEVICES ON THE SATURN SKY WITH URGENCY AS THIS PROBLEM COULD ONLY MAGNIFY SHOULD OTHER INCIDENTS ARISE. *TR

CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14E021000
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
Campaign Number: 14E021000
Manufacture: UCI-FRAM Group
Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
Summary

UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.

If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Campaign Number: 14V047000
Manufacture: General Motors LLC
Components: AIR BAGS
Summary

This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on February 10, 2014 that they are recalling 619,122 model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, and 2007 Pontiac G5 vehicles. On February 25, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 748,024 model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice vehicles and 2003-2007 Saturn Ion vehicles and 2007 Saturn Sky vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.

If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
