WE'VE COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THE BRAKES. AFTER HAVING A COMPLETE BRAKE REHAB ON JULY 7TH, 2017, I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON FEB. 2ND, 2018 LOSING ALL BRAKES INSTANTLY AS I APPROACHED A 6 LANE INTERSECTION. I CONTACTED THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP BOTH BY PHONE AND EMAIL AND DID NOT RECEIVE ANY RESPONSE. I WAS TOLD THAT A HOSE OR TUBING WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE BRAKE LINES CAUSING AN ABRUPT LOSS OF FLUID? WHY THIS WAS NOT NOTICED DURING THE EARLIER BRAKE WORK SEEMS QUESTIONABLE. MOREOVER, I AM OUT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOLLOWING THE EARLIER BRAKE WORK THAT TOTALED ABOUT ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS JUST 7 MONTHS PREVIOUS. TO THIS DAY THE BRAKES FEEL "MUSHY" AND I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE WORK DONE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN ORDER TO TRAVEL WITH PASSENGERS BUT ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT THIS HOLIDAY DISCOVERED THE SEAT BELTS WILL NOT EXTEND ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE MOST PASSENGERS. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE THEM NOR DO I WANT TO BE LEGALLY CHARGED WITH UNLAWFUL EQUIPMENT (OR RESPONSIBLE FOR HARM TO ANYONE IN MY VEHICLE). THIS IS MY FIRST TIME DEALING WITH SUCH A DILEMMA AND WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INPUT THAT THE COMPANY MAY ADVISE. IS THIS AN OVERSITE ON THE MANUFACTURER TO BUILD A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT MEET REGULATIONS?

VEHICLE HAD AN ELECTRONICALLY FAILED FRONTAL CRASH SENSOR.I PURCHASED A NEW PART FROM GM.THE PART WAS INSTALLED AND THE CONNECTOR WOULD NOT FIT IN.I CHECKED THE ALIGHNMENT OF SLOTS AND THE CONFIGURATION MATCHED THE OLD ONE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THE MOLD OF THE PLASTIC WAS DISTORTED.CHECKING THE ORIGIN OF THIS PART (MADE IN SINGAPORE).MY THOUGHTS ARE THAT IF THERE NOT TESTING THE FIT,HOW CAN WE BE SURE THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH IT WOULD EVEN SEND THE SIGNAL TO DEPLOY THE AIR BAG.EVEN THOUGH THE SDM UNIT CHECKS THE RESISTANCE VALUE AND OK'S THE PART AS BEING GOOD.ALSO I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MASTER TECH WITH 34 YEARS EXPERIENCE.I JUST AM UPSET THAT THE PROFIT MARGIN SHOULD PLAY A ROLE IN VEHICLE PASSENGER SAFETY.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH LIT UP, THE SPEEDOMETER CEASED TO FUNCTION, THE RADIO CUT OUT, THE AIRBAGS WERE REPORTING AS NONFUNCTIONAL, THE ABS SYSTEM WAS REPORTING NONFUNCTIONAL. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THE PROBLEM APPEARED TO BE CAUSED BY CORROSION ON THE ABS SENSOR AS WELL AS CORROSION ON THE POWER DISTRIBUTION CABLES INTO THE FUSE BOX. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC GM WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AS TECHNICAL BULLETINS DATING BACK TO AROUND 2005 WERE ISSUED. HE ALSO STATED SHOULD IT HAPPEN AT THE TIME OF AN ACCIDENT THE AIR BAGS WOULD LIKELY FAIL TO DEPLOY, AND THE PROBLEM IN GENERAL COULD LEAD TO THE POSSIBILITY OF A VEHICLE FIRE. ACCORDING TO HIM THE ENTIRE PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY THE MANUFACTURER IF THEY HAD MADE SURE THE CABLES WERE WRAPPED IN SHRINK TUBE-THUS ELIMINATING THE INTRODUCTION OF MOISTURE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRES. *TR

I AM A FLEET MECHANIC FOR A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. DURING A ROUTINE SAFETY INSPECTION ON A CHEVROLET EXPRESS 1500 8 PASSENGER VAN FOR THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WAS LEAKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE VERIFIED MY COMPLAINT, OF COURSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED ON IT AROUND 1 YEAR AGO. THE TOTAL COST PARTS AND LABOR WAS AROUND $900.00 TO FIX IT ON A VAN WITH AROUND 19,000 MILES ON IT. THIS LEAK CAN LEAD TO BRAKE FAILURE AND CAUSE A CRASH. IT CAN ALSO LEAK ON PLASTIC AND OTHER COMPONENTS AND CAUSE THEM TO FAIL AS WELL. *JB

WHILE MERGING ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT OUT OF FIRST OR SECOND GEAR CAUSING HIGH ENGINE RPM'S . I HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT STILL FAILED TO SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR. I HAD TO PUT ON FLASHERS ( HEAVY TRAFFIC ) AND MAKE MY WAY TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. WHEN I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE IT SHIFTED CORRECTLY. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS TO PRESENT DATE. I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEIR WERE NO CODE REPORTS SO THEY COULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THIS IS STILL A VERY REAL DANGER FOR MY FAMILY ( SEVEN CHILDREN ) BECAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS WHILE AT HIGH SPEEDS USUALLY WHILE ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY. *TR

THIS IS A 2008 CHEVROLET 3500 CUTAWAY SCHOOL BUS WITH 24,926 MILES ON. THE DRIVER WAS COMING TO A STOP TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH. HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BUS THEN REAR ENDED A ANOTHER VAN WHICH THEN HIT THE REAR OF A POSTAL TRUCK. THE DRIVERS OF THE TWO OTHER VEHICLES WERE TAKEN AWAY BY AMBULANCE COMPLAINING OF BACK INJURIES. THE BUS WAS EXAMINED AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT BY TWO PENNDOT CLASS 7 INSPECTION MECHANICS VERIFYING THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER (THIRD PARTY TOWER) ALSO CHECKED THE BRAKES AND OPENED THE MASTER CYLINDER TO SEE IF THE FLUID WAS DOWN OR EMPTY AND STATED THAT IT WAS FULL. THE BUS WAS TOWED TO OUR GARAGE WHERE WE MOVED THE BUS AND THEN HAD A BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE TWO LIGHTS ON THE DASH, THE ABS LIGHT AND THE "BRAKE LIGHT" (PICTURES TAKEN). WE READ THE CODES (OBD II) AND HAD C0035 - LEFT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION, AND C0040 - LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (PICTURES TAKEN). THE BUS WAS DRIVEN AROUND AND DID HAVE BRAKES. THIS SAME BUS WAS AT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER NOVEMBER 09,2010 TO HAVE BOTH FRONT ABS SENSORS REPLACED (DEALER WORK ORDER AVAILABLE). IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF CONTINUED COMPLAINTS OF THE BRAKES FAILING TO STOP THE BUS. AS THE DRIVERS DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM - " IT WAS LIKE TRYING TO STOP ON ICE". THE SENSORS WERE REPLACED AND THE BUS WAS PUT BACK IN SERVICE. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION, PARTICULARLY SINCE THIS IS A SCHOOL BUS! *TR

MY ROTORS KEEP WARPING AND ENDANGERING MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM ON MY FOURTH SET OF ROTORS IN 84,000 MILES!!!! AND ON TOP OF THAT I HAVE THE ORIGINAL BRAKE PADS. AS A MATTER OF FACT FROM 14,000 MI TO 94,000 MY BRAKE PADS HAVE NOT WORN AT ALL. I HAD TO CUT THE ROTORS AT 30,000, AND THEN AT 50,000 THEY WERE WARPED AND TOO THIN TO RESURFACE. I REPLACED THEM AGAIN. AT 80,000 I HAD TO HAVE THEM CUT BECAUSE THEY WERE WARPED. THEN AT 85,000 I HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AGAIN BECAUSE THEY WERE WARPED. MY ROTORS GET TO HOT THAT WHEN I BRAKE, MY WHOLE STEERING COLUMN SHAKES AND THE VEHICLE SWERVES TO HARD THAT I CAN BARELY STAY WITHIN THE LINES ON THE INTERSTATE. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE. I HAVE TRIED TO HAVE CHEVY LOOK INTO THIS AND EVERY TIME THEY JUST SLAP NEW ROTORS ON AND SEND ME ON MY WAY. THEY GIVE A 12,000 MILE WARRANTY ON ROTORS AND THEY ARE WARPING IN HALF THAT TIME. CHEVY HAS HAD TO REPLACE THEM FOR FREE UNDER WARRANTY 3 TIMES AND I HAVE HAD TO PAY ONCE. I FEEL LIKE ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS SLAP NEW PARTS ON INSTEAD OF FINDING THE PROBLEM OR HAVING A RECALL! I HAVE SPOKE TO CORPORATE, WHO AGREES SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG BUT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY SAY THEY'VE CHECKED EVERYTHING. I FINALLY GOT THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR TO ADMIT TO ME THAT THESE VEHICLES HAVE CRAPPY METAL ROTORS FROM CHINA AND THAT THEY HAVE BEEN FAILING IN THE SAFETY LANE TESTS FOR THEIR ABILITY TO BRAKE AND STOP IN THE REQUIRED DISTANCE. I FEEL THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OVERRATED TO IT'S WEIGHT LIMIT AND IT CANNOT STOP ITSELF IF IT HAS ANY KIND OF LOAD IN THE CARGO AREA. I HAVE ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE US DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HIGHWAY SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. I HAVE ALSO WORKED WITH A GENTLEMAN FROM THE CORPORATE OFFICE, HE SEEMED TO BE ON MY SIDE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING. MY CASE #'S ARE 71-869-1333444.

THE CONTACT TURNED THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND OFF, BUT THE HIGH BEAMS NO LONGER WORKED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT BOTH LIGHT BULBS FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE FAILURE SINCE THEY WERE ABLE TO USE THE LOW BEAMS. THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS AND HIGH BEAM HEAD LIGHTS WERE IDENTICAL AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN BOTH. WHILE DRIVING VAN AT START OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. AND NEED TO STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE ROAD A HEAD OF ME MERGES FROM 3 LANE TO 2. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED I STEPPED ON PEDAL TO MERGE LEFT. AND GAS PEDAL STAYED TO FLOOR. I AM NOT SURE IF I STEPPED ON PEDAL A FEW TIMES TO GET IT UNSTUCK, AS I HAD MY FOOT ON BRAKE TO SLOW VAN DOWN. I AM NOT SURE OF THE SEQUENCE. BUT VAN THEN STARTING TO SLOW DOWN. ALL THIS HAPPEN IN UNDER A MINUTE. IF IT HAD NOT SLOWED DOWN I WOULD OF RAN IN TO THE BACK OF CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS VERY SCARY. SINCE THEN PEDAL HAS WORKED FINE. I REPORTED THIS TO OUR MAIN OFFICE. AND TOLD THEM I WOULD TAKE IT TO A CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. ON 10-11-10 I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. BUT TOOK A QUICK LOOK AT PEDAL. AND SAID SAME THING AS TOYOTA "IT MUST OF BEEN FLOOR MAT. WE HAVEN'T SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM IN THIS VAN. VAN IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SPRING RETURN PRESSURE IS GOOD". I TOLD THEM I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS AND THIS VAN FOR 2. AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS HAPPEN TO ME. SO I ORDERED A REPLACEMENT PEDAL. AND THEY SAID IT SHOULD BE IN 10-13-10. THAT IS TODAY. I WILL KEEP OLD PEDAL FOR FUTURE STUDY. I DON'T THINK PEOPLE BELIEVE ME AS I AM NOT LOOKING FOR ANY FAME. IT WAS JUST A SCARY TIME. *TR

Summary

PURCHASED A NEW 2008 CHEVY EXPRESS 1500 WITHIN 9 MOS HAD ABS AND STABILITY TRACTION LIGHT ON. TECH REPLACED WHEEL SENSOR. HAPPENED AGAIN 6 MOS LATER, 4/7/09 AND 5/15/10. ON MY LAST VISIT THEY SAID THEY FOUND A SHORT, BUT THE LIGHTS ARE ON AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS WHEN THE ABS AND STABILITY TRACTION LIGHT IS ON (AND ONLY WHEN TRAVELING BELOW 30 MPH) WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, THE ABS AUTOMATICALLY WILL ALLOW THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GO DOWN ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THIS IN TURN ALLOWS THE VEHICLE TO TRAVEL ADDITIONAL DISTANCE WHEN TRYING TO STOP. THIS HAPPENS ON PERFECTLY LEVEL, SMOOTH AND DRY CIRCUMSTANCES. ONE OF THE MECHANICS AT THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED TO ME THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN MANY CHEVY VANS UP TO AND INCLUDING 2010. OBVIOUSLY THEY HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THIS MALFUNCTION. SOME OTHER MECHANICS HAVE SAID THEY FEEL IT MIGHT BE A COMPUTER GLITCH. IT IS ONLY OF MATTER OF TIME, AND PROBABLY HAS ALREADY HAPPENED, WHEN TRYING TO STOP - REAR ENDING A VEHICLE OR STRIKING A PEDESTRIAN WHO HAS STEPPED OUT IN FRONT. PLEASE ADVISE AS TO WHAT COURSE OF ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH GM. *TR
