Truck starts Violently shaking on highway
The death wobble. It happens on the freeway. You have to almost come to a stop. A major HAZARD!!! Happen s going over train tracks, bumps on the road. It's soooo scary and dangerous! Can we ford owners file a class action lawsuit against Ford? Please help. Every time we drive it's scary and dangerous. We're always afraid to haul or drive please help us get this fixed!
Two incidents of front-end wobble at hwy speeds (65 & 70 mph) that caused violent vibration-shaking of steering wheel, on April 7, 2021 and June 11, 2021. June occurrence happened following pothole strike, lasting +10 seconds with vibration settling after achieving speeds <40 mph. Dealership appointment made for 17 June 2021, suspension check.
WHILE DRIVING THIS TRUCK AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND HITTING A BUMP THE STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO BUT HOLD ON AND LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR TILL IT STOPS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS LOSS OF CONTROL AND HAVING TO SLOW DOWN MAKES IT LIKELY TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE HELP!!!!
EXHAUST MANIFOLDS CRACKED ON BOTH SIDES OF MOTOR. DEATH WOBBLE IN FRONT SUSPENSION,FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. DRIVING ON INTERSTATE DOING 70 MPH
THROWING A CODE FOR HIGH RAIL PRESSURE. VEHICLE IS STOCK WITH LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON IT.
WHEN HITTING A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD OR ESPECIALLY WHEN CROSSING A BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE TRUCK DEVELOPS A TERRIFYING, VIOLENT SHAKING/VIBRATION AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO SLOW DOWN TO 25 - 30MPH, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING ON FREEWAYS SURROUNDED BY OTHER VEHICLES. MY WIFE REFUSES TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER EXPERIENCING THE "DEATH WOBBLE".. THE TRUCK HAS HAD VARIOUS STEERING AND SUSPENSION COMPONENTS REPLACED WITH HIGH QUALITY AFTERMARKET PARTS INCLUDING SHOCK ABSORBERS AND STEERING DAMPER WITH NO CHANGE IN WHAT HAS BEEN CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND DOES NOT HAPPEN EACH AND EVERY TIME WHEN HITTING A BUMP OR CROSSING A BRIDGE JOINT. MULTIPLE TECHNICIANS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM EVEN AT LOCATIONS WHERE IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY.
TWO TO THREE WEEKS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN MY FORD F350 SRW, $WD, CREW CAB TRUCK I WENT OVER A BRIDGE. WENT I CAME OFF THE BRIDGE AND WENT OVER A LITTLE BUMP MY VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY. FIRST I WAS YANKED TO THE LEFT AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO STEER IT TO THE RIGHT. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE UNTIL I WAS IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE. I WAS ALMOST STRUCK BY TWO TRACTOR TRAILERS WHO, BY THE GRACE OF GOD WHERE PAYING ATTENTION AND BRAKED BEFORE COLLIDING WITH ME! THE SHAKING WAS SO VIOLENT THAT MY ARMS HURT FOR TWO DAYS AFTER. IT HAS NOW HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO ME, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE FORD DEALER WHO REALLY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT "TRY" DIFFERENT THINGS.
THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING OVER AN EVEN ROADWAY. THE SHAKING WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, HIT AN UNEVEN SPOT ON THE ROAD AND THE TRUCK STARTING SHAKING HORRIBLY. I WAS GOING BETWEEN 50-55MPH. HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO GET OFF TO THE SIDE. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF THE WAY IN A TIMELY MANNER. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON A DAILY BASES, NUMEROUS TIMES IN ONE TRIP. IT IS ONE OF THE SCARIEST THINGS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I'M SCARED FOR MYSELF, MY CHILDREN AND ALL OTHER DRIVERS. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS ISSUE CAUSES A SERIOUS IF NOT FATAL ACCIDENT. *TR
VIOLENT SHACKING OF FRONT END , TRIES TO TAKE ME OFF THE ROAD. HAD IN 4 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. REFERED TO ONLINE AS A DEATH WOBBLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE 'DEATH WOBBLE' AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WINSLOW FORD (LOCATED AT 840 MIKE'S PIKE ST, WINSLOW, AZ 86047, (800) 331-6698), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING OUR FORD SUPER DUTY F 350 ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS , IFOUR FRONT TRIES OR TIRE HIT A BUMP WE LOOSE CONTROL OF OUR TRUCK IT SHAKES VERY VIOLENTLY UNTIL WE SHOW DOWN AND ARE ABLE TO PULL OVER. WE HAVE HAD THE FRONT END REPLACED, ALSO REPLACED DAMPER AND SHOCKS. THIS HAS NOT STOPPED THE ISSUE, AT THIS POINT WE WILL NOT PUT OUR FAMILY IN DANGER BY RIDING IN THIS VEHICLE.
FRONT WHEEL "DEATH WOBBLE' OCCURS BETWEEN 45 MPH AND 65+ MPH (IN TOWN STREETS AND FREEWAY) AFTER HITTING A MINOR BUMP IN THE ROAD, MOST GOING STRAIGHT BUT OCCURS IN MINOR TURNS AS WELL. FRONT WHEELS SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND TRANSMITS TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAB. FRONT WHEELS FEEL LIKE THEY ARE GOING TO TEAR OFF. TO STOP THE WOBBLE I HAVE TO SLOW QUICKLY TO 5 MPH TO 10 MPH. AS THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE WOBBLE INCREASES BECOMES EVEN MORE VIOLENT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS PARTICULARLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO CHANGE LANES ABRUPTLY, PULLING OVER TO STOP. THE WOBBLE STARTED AS A MINOR NUISANCE THOUGHT TO BE A WHEEL BALANCE ISSUE. NOW THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING AND PROGRESSIVE. THE VEHICLE HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, IS IN REGULAR SERVICE, AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 90K MILES. THE TIRES ARE HIGH GRADE MICHELIN WITH APPROX 32K, HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCED SEVERAL TIMES (NO PROBLEMS NOTED AT AMERICA'S TIRE STORE). I HAVE A LIFETIME ALIGNMENT WITH FIRESTONE AND HAD IT ALIGNED TWICE (NO PROBLEMS NOTED AT FIRESTONE). I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND SEE OTHER COMPLAINTS BUT FORD DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL, SERVICE BULLETIN, OR WARNING. PEOPLE THAT HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN HAVE PULLED OVER TO TELL ME HOW BAD IT LOOKS FROM OUTSIDE. I SEE BLOGS WITH SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT. FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM DIRECTLY. I AM GOING TO HAVE THE WHEELS BALANCED AGAIN AND ALIGNED THEN TAKE IT TO FORD FOR A COMPLETE DIAGNOSIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 EQUIPPED WITH BF GOODRICH RUGGED TERRAIN T/A TIRES, SIZE: LT275/65R20 126/123R (NA). WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT AND THE TREAD SEPARATED. A FEW MILES AFTER THE FIRST TIRE FAILED, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE ALSO EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THE TREAD HAD EXTENSIVELY DISINTEGRATED AND SHREDDED FROM THE REAR TIRES IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. BOTH TIRES WERE REPLACED BY A TIRE REPAIR FACILITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE TIRE FAILURES AND INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD OFFER A DISCOUNT FOR THE NEW TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT VERIFIED IF THE TIRES HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO DETERMINE IF THEY MAY BE ABLE TO INVESTIGATE THE TREAD SEPARATION AND PROVIDE A REMEDY FOR BOTH TIRES. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN AND DOT NUMBER WERE ALSO UNKNOWN.
CABLE HOLDING SPARE TIRE BROKE CAUSING SPARE TIRE TO FALL ONTO ROAD IN TRAFFIC WHILE MOVING.
2010 FORDF350 SUPER DUTY, 127,000 MILES. I HAVE THE DREADED "FORD DEATH WOBBLE", I'VE CONTACTED FORD ALL THE WAY TO CORPORATE. FORD'S RESPONSE IS WE'RE NOT AWARE IF ANY ISSUES, AND THERE IS NO RECALL ON YOUR VEHICLE. MY WIFE WON'T RIDE IN THE CAR, THAT'S HOW COOLANT THE SHAKE IS. I'VE CONTACTED FORD BOTH IN WRITING AND VERBALLY, THERE ANSWER IS OUT OF WARRANTY, YOUR PROBLEM MN. THEY ARE AWARE IF THE PROBLEM AS IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THEIR ANSWER IS YOU CAN'T BELIEVE THE INTERNET. I GUESS THEY'LL TAKE OWNERSHIP WHEN SOMEONE IS KILLED. OF COURSE IN A DEADLY CRASH, THE EVIDENCE/CAUSE OF CRASH WILL BE DESTROYED, HOW FOURTINANT FOR FORD.
I HAVE WHAT THE FORD DEALERSHIPS AND MASTER MECHANICS CALL THE "FORD DEATH WOBBLE". TYPE OR SURFACE OF ROAD MAKES NO DIFFERENCE, NOR DOES SPEED. HITTING A BUMP, OR EXPANSION JOINT ON THE HIGHWAY OR BRIDGE CAUSES THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK TO SHAKE SO VILENTLY I HAVE TO SLAM ON BREAKS AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO BRING THE TRUCK BACK UNDER CONTROL. I HAVE NO PHOTOS HOWEVER, SOCIAL MEDIA, UTUBE, ETC. HAS AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF VIDEOS ON THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD AND I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTS ON THIS ISSUE, AND THEREFORE NO RECALL. PROBLEM IS, IF THIS ISSUE CAUSES A DEADLY WRECK, ALL THE EVIDENCE OF WHAT CAUSED THE WRECK WILL BE DESTROYED IN THE WRECK. I'M 73 YEARS OLD, DRIVEN A LOT OF CARS, THIS IS THE FIRST AUTOMOBILE I'VE BEEN AFRAID TO DRIVE, AND WILL NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE IT AT ALL. HOPEFULLY AN INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED BY YOU WILL BRING THIS PROBLEM TO FORDS ATTENTION, AND HOPEFULLY RESOLUTION. PS, THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME....UPDATED 02/13/17 *BF *CN

I HAVE NOW FOUND THE 2ND RIM IN 3 WEEKS WITH A CRACK IN THE RIM. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL FORUMS WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE STATING THEY'VE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. UPON CALLING FORD SEVERAL WERE TOLD THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO CREATE A SERVICE BULLETIN OR A RECALL THE 1 FORUM ALONE HAD OVER 100 PAGES OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT CRACKED RIMS ON THEIR F350 2006-2010 MODELS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIGOROUSLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY, STABILIZER, AND MAIN GEAR BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER THE WARRANTY AND MILEAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,020. .. UPDATED 12/22/16 *BF *TR
LOSS OF CONTROL WHEN DRIVING ON BUMPY SECTION OF FREEWAY, DUE TO EXTREME SHAKING OF FRONT END. IT SEEM TO AMPLIFY IN THE SEVERITY AND VIOLENCE OF THE SHAKING UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE TRUCK TO UNDER 10 MILES AN HOUR ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO REGAIN CONTROL. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK IN SHOP AT THE DEALER 3 TO 4 TIMES FOR REPAIR FOR THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. THE FORD SERVICE TECHNICIAN ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL BUT THAT NEITHER FORD OR THE DEALER WOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. BUT, THEY DID HOWEVER HAVE A RECOMMENDED FIX, WHICH I FOUND INTERESTING FOR AN ISSUE THAT THEY SAID DIDN'T EXIST. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT THE DEALER TO FIX WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING FLAW. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE. WE BOUGHT IT TO PULL A LARGE TRAVEL TRAILER BUT DO NOT HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE TRUCK TO DO SO. SO NOT ONLY ARE WE PAYING FOR A DEFECTIVE TRUCK, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO USE THE TRUCK FOR THE PURPOSE WE INTENDED. WE COULD NOT BE MORE DISAPPOINTED IN FORD AND OUR DEALER. THESE TRUCKS WILL CAUSE FATAL CRASHES, THEY ARE NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I CAN SEND VIDEO FROM THE CAB OF THE SHAKING THAT HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND. PLEASE, PLEASE TAKE ACTION TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED. THANK YOU *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL CONTI TRAC AS TIRES, SIZE: LT275/70/18 (NA). WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE SPARE TIRE WAS INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED BOTH REAR TIRES. AFTER DRIVING 25,000 MILES, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE SAME TIRE AND BOTH REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH NEW ONES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,900 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. SUBMISSION FROM CONSTITUENT RE ISSUES WITH FORD F-350 TRUCK (FULL DOCUMENT NOT IMAGED). *SMD THE DEALER HAD THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE FOR 12 DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO HIM DAMAGED. WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO START THE TRUCK, THERE WAS METALLIC ENGINE RATTLE. HE SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AND INSPECTED THE ENGINE, BUT FOUND NO PROBLEM. AS THE CONSUMER DROVE HOME, THE TRUCK STALLED SEVERAL TIMES, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AT 30 MPH. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE HEAD LIGHTS DID NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE LIGHTING OF THE ROAD, THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT RETRACT PROPERLY; THEY WOULD TIGHTENED AS HE WAS DRIVING, WHICH PREVENTED HIM FROM MOVING, THERE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL, THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT READING ACCURATELY, THERE WERE NOISES COMING FROM THE DRIVE TRAIN, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS INOPERATIVE, THE VEHICLE SEVERELY PULLED TO THE RIGHT, THE ENGINE LACKED TORQUE AND POWER, THE SUSPENSION WAS NOT ADEQUATE FOR THE VEHICLE, EVERY TIME HE HIT A POT HOLE OR BUMP IN THE ROAD, HE WOULD LOOSE STEERING ABILITY AND THE TIRES WOULD START BOUNCING. IT WOULD TAKE TOO LONG FOR THE VEHICLE TO TAKE OFF, WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS APPLIED, THERE WAS AN INSTANT SHUDDER FROM THE VEHICLE, WHEN HE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *JB
SINCE I PURCHASED MY TRUCK, USED, IN 2012, UNDER LIMITED CIRCUMSTANCES THE TRUCK WILL GO INTO A VIOLENT SHAKE FROM THE FRONT END AFTER HITTING RATHER SMALL BUMPS. NOW THAT IT IS OLDER AND HAS ABOUT 73000 MILES ON IT, THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. THE VIBRATION STARTS OUT VERY SMALL BUT QUICKLY ESCALATES UNTIL THE TRUCK IS SHAKING OUT OF CONTROL. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK IS ROLLING DOWN THE ROAD WITH SQUARE TIRES IN FRONT. IT USUALLY LASTS AT LEAST 5 SECONDS AND ONLY GOES AWAY WITH AGGRESSIVE BRAKING AND STEERING MANEUVERS. *TR
SINCE 2012 THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS (BOTH SIDES) INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF. IT HAPPENS WITH THE LIGHT SWITCH TURNED BOTH TO "ON" AND "AUTO". UP UNTIL THIS WEEK, I COULD ALWAYS SWITCH THEM OFF AND BACK ON, OR FROM THE PULLED-OUT POSITION (FOR THE FOG LAMPS TO TURN ON) TO THE PUSHED IN POSITION, AND THE LIGHTS WOULD TURN RIGHT BACK ON. THERE APPEARS TO BE NOT PATTERN OF SPEED. I HAVE USED AUTO LAMPS WITH THE LIGHT SENSOR ON THE DASH COVERED UP AND COMPLETELY CLEAR OF ANY BLOCKAGE OF LIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THIS WEEKEND, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. I CHANGED THE BULBS AND THEY TOO DON'T WORK. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE LOCAL DEALER IN THE PAST WITH NO RESOLUTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD E-350 EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN MIC TIRES, LINE: LTXM-SLT AND SIZE: 225-75-R16. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN THE TILT ADJUSTMENT LEVER WAS ENGAGED TO ADJUST THE WHEEL TILT THE LEVER BROKE OFF. THE FORD DEALER AGREED IT WAS A DEFECTIVE PIECE OF STEEL A IT HAD A BUBBLE IN THE IN THE STEEL IN THE AREA THAT IT BROKE. *TR
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE RIM HAS AN APPROXIMATE 5" CRACK THAT RUNS PARALLEL TO THE BEAD BETWEEN SPOKES. THE CRACK IS VISIBLE FROM THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE RIM. RIMS ARE ORIGINAL FROM PURCHASE OF VEHICLE. TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 33,000 MILES AND RIM SHOWS NO OTHER FAULTS (IE OUT OF ROUND, DENTS ETC.) I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY STATED THERE WERE NO KNOW DEFECTS. AFTER REVIEWING SEVERAL SITES AND INSTANCES ONLINE, I AM HOPEFUL THAT NHTSA WILL DO SOME RESEARCH INTO THIS ALL TO COMMON PROBLEM. *TR
DURING ITS WARRANTY PERIOD, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED RUST AT LOAD-BEARING AREAS OF SEVERAL CROSSMEMBERS WHICH SUPPORT THE PICKUP BED. THE RUST OCCURS EXCLUSIVELY BETWEEN THE STAMPED STEEL CROSSMEMBER ITSELF AND A STAMPED STEEL REINFORCING PLATE WHICH IS SPOT-WELDED TO EACH CROSSMEMBER WHERE IT INTERSECTS AND MAKES LOAD-BEARING CONTACT WITH THE VEHICLE'S FRAME. BECAUSE THE RUST AND ANY MOISTURE, SALT, ETC. ARE CAPTIVE BENEATH THE REINFORCING PLATE, RUST IS CONCEALED FROM VIEW UNTIL IT PROCEEDS BEYOND THE PERIPHERY OF EACH PLATE. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO KNOW THE DEPTH TO WHICH RUST HAS PENETRATED EACH CROSSMEMBER. AS THE LOAD-BEARING PORTIONS OF THE PICKUP BED CROSSMEMBERS ARE WEAKENED BY RUST, THE VEHICLE'S RATED PAYLOAD CAPACITY IS COMPROMISED ACCORDINGLY AND THE POTENTIAL FOR CROSSMEMBERS TO COLLAPSE AT OR BELOW THE VEHICLE'S RATED PAYLOAD CAPACITY BECOMES A CONCERN. COLLAPSE OF THE CROSSMEMBERS WHICH SUPPORT THE PICKUP BED AND ITS PAYLOAD COULD RESULT IN SUDDEN DESTABILIZATION OF THE PAYLOAD AND THE VEHICLE, LEADING TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLY A CRASH. FURTHER CONCERN IS THAT THE UPPERMOST PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK IN THIS VEHICLE (WITH GASOLINE ENGINE) IS PROTECTED BY A CLEARANCE BETWEEN IT AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PICKUP BED, AS MAINTAINED BY THE HEIGHT OF THE CROSSMEMBERS. EXPOSED ATOP THE FUEL TANK IS THE EXTERIOR PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK SENDER ASSEMBLY AND ITS FITTINGS, COMPRISED OF A PRESSURIZED FUEL LINE AND CORRESPONDING FUEL RETURN LINE, FUEL VAPOR LINES, AND ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP. THERE IS CONCERN THAT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PICKUP BED MAY MAKE DAMAGING CONTACT WITH THESE FITTINGS SHOULD A COLLAPSE OF ITS CROSSMEMBERS OCCUR. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SURRENDERED TWICE FOR WARRANTY REVIEW, EACH DENIED. A THIRD ATTEMPT AT REPAIR IS PRESENTLY IN NEGOTIATION WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY IN AN OPEN CASE, CUSTOMER TO ASSUME HALF OF ALL COSTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE SPRINGS PROTRUDING FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 161,000. *TR
SINCE PURCHASING OUR VEHICLE NEW WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. OUR FIRST COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITHIN THE 1ST MONTH (ODI ID NUMBER : 10330335). WITHIN 16000 MILES WE HAD 3 INCIDENTS. ALL OF THESE INCIDENTS WERE AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF. EACH TIME WE WERE ABLE TO PLACE THE GEAR SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL OR STOMP ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL UNTIL IT STOPPED ACCELERATING. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, NO EXPLANATION COULD BE FOUND HOWEVER ON THE INCIDENT AT ~16000 MILES THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY HAD REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. WE HAD DRIVEN THE TRUCK WITHOUT INCIDENT SINCE THAT TIME UNTIL DECEMBER 24, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 0800 HOURS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND ON I-40 AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. HER FIRST REACTION WAS TO TRY TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, HOWEVER SHE WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFT LEVER. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO MAXIMUM SPEED QUICKLY AS SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES. HER ORDEAL LASTED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND SHE NEARLY LOST CONTROL SEVERAL TIMES AS THIS SECTION OF HIGHWAY TRAVELS THROUGH A CANYON AND HAS SIGNIFICANT CURVES. SHE WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY. BY THIS POINT THE BRAKES WERE INEFFECTIVE FROM HER TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RICH FORD. THEY HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FROM DEC. 24 UNTIL TODAY. ONCE AGAIN THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE ADVICE GIVEN BY THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS "WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN, TURN OFF THE KEY. DON'T TOUCH THE ACCELERATOR AT ALL, AND HAVE IT TOWED HERE." NOT "IF", "WHEN". MY WIFE'S RESPONSE WAS: "IF I LIVE THROUGH THE NEXT TIME, I'LL DO THAT." *TR
RAILROAD HYRAIL VEHICLE EQUIPPED, AFTER MARKET, WITH HYRAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES WHICH ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO OPERATE ON RAILROAD TRACKS. ONCE HYRAIL (FLANGED) WHEELS ARE RETRACTED, THE VEHICLE IS OPERATED OVER THE HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC ROADS LIKE ANY OTHER VEHICLE. ON OR ABOUT 5/15/12 NEAR NEWCASTLE, WY, RAILROAD EMPLOYEE WAS OPERATING HYRAIL-EQUIPPED VEHICLE ON PUBLIC ROADWAY WHEN IT STRUCK A COW AT APPROX. 18-20 MPH. VEHICLE STRUCK COW WITH RIGHT FRONT END, SPINNING THE COW AROUND TO STRIKE THE SIDE OF THE PICKUP ALSO. STEERING WHEEL (FRONTAL) AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, BUT OTHER (SIDE) AIRBAG(S) DID DEPLOY. CONCERN IS THAT THE INSTALLATION OF HYRAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES MIGHT BE IMPACTING THE AIRBAG SENSOR. THE HYRAIL WHEEL ASSEMBLIES EXTEND APPROX. ONE FOOT OF STEEL FRAMEWORK AHEAD OF THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS. THE PLACEMENT OF THESE ASSEMBLIES MIGHT INADVERTENTLY BE AFFECTING AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT IN CRASHES ON THE RAILROAD TRACK AND ON PUBLIC ROADS. *TR

WHILE ON AN EXTENDED TRIP, TIRES WERE CHECKED EACH DAY (80 PSI). MID-DAY THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR SOUNDED ON CONSOLE. RIGHT REAR TIRE INDICATED 60 PSI. RE-INFLATED TO 80 PSI AND WENT TO TIRE CENTER. NO CAUSE WAS LOCATED. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, AGAIN TIRES WERE CHECKED EARLY MORNING AT 80 PSI. WHILE AT A RETAIL FACILITY, A WHEEL/TIRE ISSUE WAS POINTED OUT. THE WHEEL HAD A CRACK, BUT THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED. A PHOTO WAS TAKEN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER. THEY PROMPTLY INDICATED IT WAS AN IMPACT CAUSED ISSUE. THE PHOTO TAKEN AT THE RETAIL STORE CLEARLY SHOWS A CRACK IN THE WHEEL. THERE WAS NO APPARENT PINCHING OF THE TIRE, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN NORMAL IF IT WAS IMPACT RELATED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER ACCOUNTS OF SIMILAR ISSUES. HAD THE WHEEL FAILURE RESULTED IN A BLOWOUT, THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE AND RANGE WARNING LAMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM AND INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE WAS EMITTED FROM THE EXHAUST AS THE VEHICLE WENT THROUGH REGENERATION. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE SMOKE WOULD BLOCK THE ROADWAY OF THE VEHICLES FOLLOWING BEHIND HIM. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN DEALING WITH THE ISSUE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO RAN OUT OF FUEL BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE PROVIDED AN INACCURATE READING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FIVE DIFFERENT TIMES TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,050.
THE TRUCK HAS BEGUN BLOWING WHITE SMOKE WHILE UNDER ACCELERATION. THIS IS A VERY BLINDING SMOKE. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER TRUCK OWNERS WITH THE SAME 6.4 L DIESEL ENGINE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED A FIX FOR THIS AND SAY IT IS DOING NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO BE PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE AS IT IS THAT SEVERE. I WOULD LIKE THE TRUCK FIXED, A NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM WHICH WORKS OR I WANT FORD TO BUY THE TRUCK BACK FOR WHAT I HAVE IN THE VEHICLE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE THAT IS CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE FOR OTHERS. FORD WILL NOT HELP IN THIS MATTER. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE IF THE PROPER AMOUNT OF AIR WAS WITHIN THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH AFTERMARKET WHEELS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 11/18/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED FORD REFUSED HIS REQUEST TO UPDATE THE TPMS LOW AIR THRESHOLD. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS TIRES HAVE A MAX INFLATION OF 65 PSI WHICH IS BELOW THE INDICATOR PSI LEVEL. THE INDICATOR IS CONSTANTLY ON. UPDATED 12/16/11
DRIVER'S FACTORY FLOOR MAT "CREEPING" UP OVER THE ACCELERATOR CAUSING THE ACCELERATOR TO STICK DOWN AND THE VEHICLE RACING OUT OF CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 8 TIMES & HAD TO REACH DOWN TO JERK THE MAT BACK. I CONTACTED REUTHER FORD, MIKE BOWEN, & HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST REPORT TO HIM FROM A CUSTOMER, BUT FORD HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS AS OF YET. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE IT RESULTS IN A DEATH OF A PEDESTRIAN. *TR
YESTERDAY MAY 12, 2010 MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN OUR 1 MONTH OLD FORD F350 CABELA EDITION. FROM A HIGHWAY SPEED OF 65 MPH THE TRUCK, COMPLETELY ON ITS OWN, ACCELERATED TO OVER 95 MPH. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON AND SHE WAS NOT TOUCHING ANY PEDALS. WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES SHE LEFT SOME IMPRESSIVE TIRE MARKS ON THE HIGHWAY BUT WITH 650 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE AT THE REAR WHEELS THE TRUCK WAS NOT STOPPING. SHE PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND THE TACHOMETER PEGGED ALL THE WAY. SHE DID MANAGE TO PULL THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN IT OFF. SHE TRIED TO RE-START THE VEHICLE AND AGAIN WITHOUT ANY INPUT FROM THE ACCELERATOR THE TACHOMETER PEGGED. SHE IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING. THIS TIME THE TRUCK IDLED NORMALLY. SHE TOOK IT TO RICHARDSON FORD IN ALBUQUERQUE WHERE WE PURCHASED THE TRUCK. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HE KNEW SOMETHING REALLY BAD HAD HAPPENED BECAUSE SHE WAS CRYING AND VISIBLY SHAKEN. THEY PERFORMED SEVERAL TESTS AND THE CODES THAT CAME UP WERE 'EXCESSIVE SPEED' AND SOMETHING ABOUT THE EXHAUST CLEANING SYSTEM STUCK IN MID CYCLE. THEY HAVE NOW HAD THE TRUCK 2 DAYS AND CANNOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT ACCORDING TO FORD'S OWN SERVICE DATABASE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER DOCUMENTED INSTANCES OF RAPID UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION ON F250 AND ABOVE TRUCKS. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM ON FORD VEHICLES. WE CARRY OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE. I NOW HAVE A $60,000 VEHICLE THAT MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE. YOU TELL ME, WHAT DO I DO? IT'S OBVIOUS TO ME THAT IT IS A COMPUTER OR PROGRAMMING PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE VEHICLES COMPUTER OR THE WHOLE VEHICLE REPLACED. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F350 WHICH WAS PURCHASED ON DECEMBER 29, 2009. HE STATED THAT THE RIMS ON HIS VEHICLE WERE 20 INCHES. THE SIZE OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE LT 275/65/ R20 E AND THE SPARE TIRE PROVIDED BY THE FACTORY WAS SIZE LT275/ 70/R18 E. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE WINDOW STICKER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A FULL SIZE SPARE TIRE, WHICH WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALER TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR THE FACTORY TO PROVIDE ONLY AN 18? SPARE TIRE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE COMPATIBILITY OF THE SMALLER TIRE ON HIS VEHICLE IN THE EVENT HE HAD TO UTILIZE THE SPARE. THERE WERE NO TECHNICAL FAILURES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 901.
