Loss of power failure, it lights up several times when turning corners and then accelerating.
The Vano Housing System bolts all broke off and fell into the engine causing sudden failure and stopping of the vehicle causing it to need to be towed. Upon some researched I learned that in 2014 BMW of North America issued a recall for 2010-2011 BMW 3 series (N55 Engine) Models for this exact defect except apparently my VIN was not included. However, clearly my vehicle should have been included because it sustained damage and could have caused me harm by sudden stoppage. The car is currently being looked at by BMW of Rockville, MD and BMW is attempting to skirt responsibility
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR TAIL LIGHT MALFUNCTION MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 127,000.
HELLO, I WANTED TO BRING TO ATTENTION THE FAILING FOOTWELL MODULES IN E9X GENERATION BMWS. THE MODULES HAVE A HIGH FAILURE RATE AND WHEN THEY BECOME INOPERABLE YOU LOSE YOUR HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, LOCKING AND UNLOCKING DOORS, POWER WINDOW CONTROL AND THE ABILITY TO MOVE YOUR MIRRORS. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT BMW HAS HIDDEN FROM ITS CUSTOMERS AS IT IS A KNOWN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR SUCH AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT. I RECENTLY HAD MY VEHICLE IN TO HAVE IT REPLACED AND WAS DECLINED AS IT HAD NOT FAILED ENOUGH. ESSENTIALLY THEY WANT ME TO HAVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE BEFORE THE REPAIR WILL BE PERFORMED. I DO HAVE DOCUMENTATION THAT THE UNIT IS IN THE EARLY STAGES OF FAILING BUT BMW STILL REFUSES TO HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.
WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 81,000 MILES WHEN THE ROD BEARING BROKE. BMW HAS A RECORD OF ROD BEARING FAILURES AND RECALLS. BMW IS NOT HELPING IN MY CASE AND FROM MY RESEARCH THERE HAS BEEN ROD BEARING FAILURES IN THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL AS MINE. I WAS DRIVING WHEN I HEARD KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE. I PULLED OVER, HAD TO BE TOWED AJD BMW SAID THE ROD BEARING WENT. THEY SAID IT JUST WENT. PLENTY OF OIL IN THE ENGINE SO IT WASN'T THAT. I WAS GOING ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED
BLINKER LIGHTS AND WINDOWS NOT WORKING. I WAS NOT DRIVING WHEN I NOTICED THE PROBLEM. I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY BUT DID NOT PROCEED WHEN I NOTICED THE WINDOWS AND LIGHTS WEREN'T WORKING. BOTH BLINKER AND HIGH BEAMS ARE NOT WORKING.
WHEN I SHIFT TO SPORTS MODE IT DOES NOT ENGAGE. NO RESPONSE WHEN I AM DRIVING. PASSENGER SEAT IS NO DETECTING IF SOMEONE SEATING ON IT. AIR BAG MALFUNCTION ON THE DASH BOARD.
VANOS BOLTS BACKED OUT AFTER RECALL SERVICE REPLACEMENT COMPLETED. VEHICLE WENT INTO SAFE MODE ON THE FREEWAY SUDDENLY.
FRONT PASSENGER INSIDE DOOR HANDLE STARTS TO MELT DURING ANY HOT CONDITION. ONCE MELTING DETERIORATION STARTS, DOOR HANDLE GETS EXTREMELY STICKY AND SOFT (LEAVES A LOT OF UNKNOWN RESIDUE ON ANY PASSENGER HAND) TO ANY HAND TOUCH DURING ANY WEATHER CONDITION (COLD/HOT). DOOR HANDLE UNKNOWN COMPONENTS ARE TOUCHED BY PASSENGERS AND CAN BE UNSAFE IF A KID UNDER 18 EATS THE DOOR HANDLE UNKNOWN COMPONENT'S WHILE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. HANDLE CAN BE UNSAFE TO A GRIP IN CASE OF ACCIDENT (COULD FALL OFF AND END IN PASSENGER HAND). EXTREMELY BAD (POOR) MATERIAL WERE USED FOR INSIDE DOOR HANDLE. PICTURES CAN BE SUBMITTED IF REQUESTED (CMARA NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND SEIZE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FIELDS BMW SOUTH ORLANDO (LOCATED AT 9750 S ORANGE BLOSSOM TRAIL, ORLANDO, FL 32837, (407) 956-6300) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE ENGINE BLOCK REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V176000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,250.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO INTO NEUTRAL. WHEN IDLE TOO THE CAR GOES INTO NEUTRAL AND YOU CAN'T SHIFT INTO DRIVE. WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IT HITS NEUTRAL AND THE CAR REDLINES, THE CAR WILL COAST DOWN THE HIGHWAY UNTIL IT HOPS BACK INTO GEAR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. ALSO, "VEHICLE OPERATING AT REDUCED POWER LEVEL" DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAYS, CITY STREETS, AND TURNING, CERTAIN SYSTEM SOMETIMES LOSE POWER (E.G., RADIO, WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHILE RAINING, STABILITY CONTROL, STABLE BRAKING, CENTER CONSOLE, HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT). LOSS OF STABILITY CONTROL AND LOSS OF STABLE BRAKING MESSAGES APPEAR QUITE FREQUENTLY THEN GO AWAY SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. OTHER MESSAGES FOR LOSS OF OTHER SYSTEMS ALSO APPEAR SOMETIMES. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT OCCURS WHEN AT ANY SPEED CONSTANT OR OTHERWISE. THESE INTERMITTENT FAILURES HAVE BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 81K MILES. IT NOW HAS 100K MILES.
I AM PERPLEXED THAT NHSTA ALLOWS TIRE MANUFACTURERS TO SELL TIRES WITHOUT WARRANTY. ANY MERCHANDISE SOLD TO PUBLIC HAS AT LEAST 1 YEAR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AGAINST DEFECTS IN PARTS, MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP BUT NOT TIRES. THE ONLY PART THAT CONNECTS A VEHICLE TO A SURFACE IS A TIRE. THEREFORE, TIRES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT ON A CAR BUT YET MANUFACTURERS CAN SELL TIRES WITHOUT WARRANTING THAT THE TIRES WOULD PERFORM AS THEY ARE INTENDED EVEN WHEN THEY ARE DRIVEN A FEW MILES. BRIDGESTONE RE050A RSC RUN-FLAT TIRES DRIVEN LESS THAN 11000 MILES WITHIN LESS THAN 2 YEARS AND ONE OF THE TIRES HAD ALREADY DEVELOPED A BULGE THE SIZE OF A BANANA. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PHOTO OF THE TIRE. THESE TIRES DO NOT HAVE A MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE OLD BUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER HAD ONE. IF I DIED AND CAUSED DEATH ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS FAULT, THIS COMPANY WOULD NOT BE LIABLE. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE BY NHSTA OR ANYBODY. THERE IS NOT EVEN A SECTION TO COMPLAIN ABOUT TIRES. THAT'S WHY I HAVE TO PUT THIS COMPLAINT IN THE VEHICLE SECTION. DOES THIS MEAN NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION CARES ABOUT OUR SAFETY? LUCKILY, I CAUGHT THIS BEFORE IT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT OR LIVES. ARE YOU WAITING FOR ENOUGH LIVES TO BE CONSUMED BY THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE ACTION?
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
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A BAD HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND THAT BMW HAD A RECALL FOR ENGINES N54. I'M HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AS THE N54, MY ENGINE IS THE N55. MY CAR IS NOT USABLE AND BMW DOES NOT WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS ON MY N55 ENGINE. BMW CLEARLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE MANUFACTURING OF THESE HIGH PRESSURE PUMPS WERE BAD THEY SHOULD HAVE A RECALL DONE FOR THE N55. WHAT I AM LOOKING IS FOR BMW TO COVER THIS ISSUE.
POWER TRAIN: DRIVELINE: CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT DETAILS ISSUED APRIL 21, 2017 RECALL ID 265558 NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 17V067000 VEHICLES AFFECTED 8,752 COMPONENT AFFECTED POWER TRAIN: DRIVELINE: CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT SUMMARY BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC (BMW) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2011-2012 135I COUPE, 1 SERIES M COUPE AND 135I CONVERTIBLE VEHICLES, 2011 Z4 SDRIVE 35I, 335I, 335D, 335I COUPE, 335IS COUPE, 335I CONVERTIBLE, 335IS CONVERTIBLE, 535I, 535I XDRIVE, 535I GRAN TURISMO AND 550I XDRIVE GRAN TURISMO VEHICLES AND 2012 740I AND 740LI VEHICLES. THE REAR DRIVESHAFT CONSTANT VELOCITY (CV) JOINT ON THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY FATIGUE AND BREAK. CONSEQUENCE IF THE CV JOINT BREAKS, THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE A LOSS OF PROPULSION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. REMEDY BMW WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR DRIVESHAFT CV JOINT AND, BASED ON ITS PRODUCTION DATE, WILL REPLACE IT, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN APRIL 21, 2017. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-525-7417. WHAT CAN I DO? RECALLS OCCUR WHEN A MANUFACTURER OR THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) DETERMINE THAT A VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT. THIS NOTICE IS BASED ON A SEARCH OF YOUR YEAR, MAKE, MODEL AND TRIM. TO CONFIRM WHETHER YOUR SPECIFIC VEHICLE WAS IMPACTED, VISIT THE NHTSA SITE.
MY FUEL IS LEAKING UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF INJURY TO THE UNDER BODY BUT FUEL IS DRIPPING FROM UNDERNEATH
I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 5MPH, AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ON ITS OWN WHILE I WAS STILL PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. I CONTINUED TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. AFTER 3 OR 4 MINUTES OF TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE ONCE I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE IN TRAFFIC, IT WOULD HAVE PUT MANY PEOPLE AT RISK. NO ONE WAS HARMED BECAUSE I WAS IN A WALMART PARKING LOT TRAVELING AT 5MPH WHEN THE CAR STALLED, BUT I AM UNSURE WHAT CAUSED THIS TO OCCUR. THIS SITUATION SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ADMINISTRATION'S RECALL NUMBER 14V176000, AS IT DESCRIBES WHAT I EXPERIENCED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING WHEN MY CAR IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF ALMOST CAUSING ME TO GET HIT FROM BEHIND. LUCKILY, THERE WAS A GAS STATION FOR ME TO QUICKLY PULL INTO AND GET OUT OF THE LANE BEFORE COMPLETELY COMING TO A HALT. I'M CONFUSED AS TO WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON THE 3 SERIES. THIS IS CAN CAUSE FATALITIES.
ENGINE SEIZED 10 MILES AFTER OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET WAS REPLACED. CAR HAS 107K MILES AND HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED. NOW I'M GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND FROM $8K-$10K FOR A NEW ENGINE. NEVER RECEIVED A WARNING LIGHT. FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING, THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON AFTER THAT SPECIFIC JOB IS DONE AND THE GASKET STARTS LEAKING AROUND 100K SO IT IS NECESSARY TO ADDRESS.
I PURCHASED NEW PIRELLI PZERO TIRES FROM MY LOCAL BMW DEALER. THE REAR TIRES EXHIBITED INTERMITTENT AIR LOSS AND WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER BECAUSE THE DEALER BELIEVED THEY WERE DAMAGED DURING INSTALLATION. THE SECOND SET OF REAR TIRES ALSO EXHIBITED INTERMITTENT AIR LOSS. THE DEALER BELIEVED THE WHEELS WERE DAMAGED AND CAUSING THE AIR LOSS. I HAD A WHEEL SPECIALIST INSPECT THE WHEELS, AND THEY FOUND NO DEFECTS TO CAUSE AIR LOSS. THE WHEEL SPECIALIST FOUND THE TIRES TO BE DEFECTIVE AS THEY HAVE EXCESS MATERIAL AT THE BEAD THAT PREVENTS PROPER SEALING ON THE RIM. THE WHEEL SPECIALIST ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE EXCESS MATERIAL FROM ONE TIRE TO DETERMINE IF THAT WOULD IMPROVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH IT DID TO SOME EXTENT. I CALLED PIRELLI AND NOTIFIED THEM OF THE PROBLEM, AND THEY STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE ONE REAR TIRE UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOT THE TIRE THAT WAS WORKED UPON BY THE WHEEL SPECIALIST. IN SUMMARY, I EXPERIENCED TWO SETS OF DEFECTIVE PIRELLI P ZERO TIRES LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THERE COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH ADDITIONAL TIRES. I HAVE VIDEO EVIDENCE OF THE LEAKS SEEN DURING A LEAK TEST.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD TODAY IN MY 2011 335I XDRIVE AND MY SUNROOF EXPLODED! NO ROCK HIT ME, IT WAS LIKE A SHOTGUN WENT OFF INSIDE MY CAR, I'M RETIRED MILITARY, A VETERANS OF ALL THE WARS/CONFLICTS FROM 89-2009 HAD MORTARS FLYING OVER MY HEAD AND PATRIOT BATTERYS TAKING OUT SCUDS OVERHEAD. IT'S A GOOD THING I DON'T HAVE PTSD, BECAUSE I COULD HAVE CAUSED A HUGE ACCIDENT AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE! GLASS PIECES EVERYWHERE, IN MY LAP, MOUTH AND IN THE CAR. THERE ARE TWO PARALLEL LINES OF MISSING GLASS, I HAVE TAPED ALL OF IT SO IT DOESN'T FALL DOWN. I CALLED BMW IF MURRAY UTAH, THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS AND MY WARRANTY IS PAST THEY SAID NO RECALL IS OUT FOR THIS.
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT INDICATOR GOES ON EVEN THOUGH NO ONE IS SITTING ON THE SEAT.
TENSION STRUT FAILURE (DRIVER SIDE, FRONT); THIS COMPONENT CONTROLS FORE AND AFT MOTION OF THE WHEEL & TIRE. WHEN IT FAILS THE REMAINING FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE WHEEL AND TIRE IMPACT THE WHEEL WELL CAUSING VIOLENT BUCKING AND SHAKING WHICH IS WORSENED WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. MY FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON A SMOOTH, PAVED ROAD AT LESS THAN 55 MPH. THE CAR WAS DISABLED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. I BELIEVE THAT HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SPEEDS I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND POSSIBLY OVERTURNED. THIS SHOULD BE A 'NEVER EVENT' IN MY OPINION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I US. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON AND LOW POWER MODE' WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER (BMW OF WEST SPRINGFIELD, 1712 RIVERDALE STREET, WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA 01089) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VALVE-TONIC SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME FAILURE, BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.

ON 2/5/2016, BMW ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG (RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 16V-071). I WASN'T EVEN NOTIFIED ABOUT THE RECALL! I HAPPENED TO SEE THIS OPEN RECALL IN JULY 2017 AFTER I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE REAR DRIVESHAFT CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT (RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 17V-067). IT TOOK ALMOST 2 YEARS FOR THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG RECALL TO BE FIXED (IT WAS FINALLY MADE AVAILABLE TO ME IN DECEMBER 2017). WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF GETTING THE DRIVER'S SIDE FIXED, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SEAT SENSOR MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE! I'VE SPOKEN TO BMW'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT & AUTHORIZED BMW MECHANICS REGARDING THE AIR BAG SENSOR MAT FAILING & WAS TOLD IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THAT IT WAS SO COMMON, THE WAITING LIST TO REPLACE/FIX THE MALFUNCTION WILL TAKE 1-2 YEARS (OR LONGER). THIS MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN RECALLED ON PREVIOUS BMW MODELS'THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED ON 2011 BMW'S AS IT IS STILL A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!
IMMEDIATELY AFTER REPLACING THE RECALL FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG, THE LIGHT WARNING CAME ON FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. THIS HAPPENED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AFTER TAKING IN MY CAR FOR MAINTENANCE AND THE ORIGINAL RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO USE THE AIR CONDITIONER, IT FAILED TO BLOW COLD AIR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V676000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED MOTORWERK BMW AT (952) 888-2700 (LOCATED AT 1300 AMERICAN BLVD W, BLOOMINGTON, MN 55420) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
IN 2017 MY SON WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE 91 HIGHWAY WHEN HIS FRONT DRIVER TIRE ROD BROKE OFF. BOLTS WERE MISSING BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES. TIRES WENT OUT AND IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A TRAGEDY THIS HAPPENED ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. WE PAID TO HAVE THE WHEELS AND TIRES REPAIRED AND REPLACED. I PROVIDE THE RECEIPTS TO THE BMW DEALER SHIP BUT THEY WERE NEVER HONORED OR REIMBURSED. WE PAID TO HAVE WATERPUMP REPLACEMENT BECAUSE. IN JULY 2017 THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS BLOWING HOT AIR. IN NOV. 2017 THE HEATING SYSTEM WAS BLOWING COLD AIR. FEB 2018 BLOWER WAS STILL NOT WORKING, WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE (RECALLS). WE WAITED ALMOST 4 MONTHS FOR RECALLED BLOWER WAS REPLACED, WE PAID FOR THEMOSTRATE REPLACEMENT BUT STILL HAD NO HEAT. CAR WON'T START. SO WE PAID FOR THE BATTERY TO BE TESTED AND REGISTERED. SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR STARTED LEAKING COOLANT AGAIN APRIL 2018. DEFECTED WATER PUMP. APRIL 2018 ELECTRIC SYSTEM. I DROVE THE CAR TO BMW DEALERSHIPS, FOR FUEL LEAKAGE NOW THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. IS TELLING ME THAT THE CAR WON'T START!!! AND THAT THE STARTER NEEDS REPLACED. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH THE STARTER. AND I HAVE ALREADY SPENT NEARLY $4,000.00 WITHIN THE PAST 5 MONTHS FOR THINGS THAT I BELIEVE I SHOULD NOT HAVE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. IN NOVEMBER 2017 THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING
PERTAINING TO NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 17V676 THAT WAS ISSUED IN OCTOBER OF 2017, I CALLED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE IN DECEMBER TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE STATUS OF THE RECALL BUT WAS TOLD TO CONTINUE CHECKING ITS WEBSITE FOR STATUS AND THE REP COULD NOT PROVIDE A TIMEFRAME AS TO WHEN I CAN BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. WE ARE NOW AT THE END OF JANUARY, MORE THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL WAS ISSUED AND STILL NO ETA AS TO WHEN A FIX WILL BE AVAILABLE. WHEN THERE'S A SAFETY RISK INVOLVED, I'M NOT SURE WHY THERE WAS NOT AN URGENCY BEING PLACED ON THIS RECALL FROM BMW.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE CONTACTED TWO BMW RETAILERS IN MY AREA ASKING TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS REPLACED AND BOTH RESPONSES WERE "WE DON'T HAVE THE PART BUT WILL ORDER IT AND CALL YOU BACK WHEN READY TO SCHEDULE THE REPLACEMENT". I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM EITHER AND I CONTACTED BMW MOUNTAIN VIEW OVER 9 MONTHS AGO AND BMW PETER PAN OVER 4 MONTHS AGO. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY FAMILY SINCE THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE AIRBAG THAT COULD BE DEPLOYED IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I HOPE THIS NEVER HAPPENS BUT THE FACT THERE IS A KNOWN THREAT IN MY CAR WHICH COULD BE LIFE THREATENING AT ANY MOMENT AND THERE IS NO URGENCY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE FROM BMW OR THE AIRBAG MANUFACTURER IS VERY DISAPPOINTING.
2011 BMW 335I THREE (3) RECALLS: 1) FIRE HAZARD, 2) TAKATA RECALL AND 3) VANOS HOUSING BOLTS - RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF MY 2011 BMW 335I VEHICLE AS CONFIRMED A TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE BY PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE CLAIM NUMBER 17-2120735. CONTRARY TO PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE COMPANY'S REPORT, THERE WAS NO COLLISION. MY 2011 BMW 335I SPORTS MODEL VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE ON APRIL 21 2017 AND I WAS SEVERELY INJURED WITH HIP DAMAGE WHEN MY 2011 BMW CAR OVERHEATED AND STOPPED SUDDENLY WHEN I WAS SLOWLY DRIVING MY CAR ON A CITY STREET IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA. CONTRARY TO PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE'S FALSE REPORT, THERE WAS NO COLLISION. BMW NEVER PROVIDED ANY NOTICE RE: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 14V176 (VANOS HOUSING BOLTS), NOR PROVIDED ANY NOTICE RE: NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 17V676 (OVERHEATING LEADING TO FIRE). INSTEAD OF OFFERING TO REPAIR OR REPLACE MY RECALLED VEHICLE,BMW, SINCE APRIL 21, 2017 AND FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS, BMW, BMW FINANCIAL SERVICES AND PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE HAVE BEEN ORCHESTRATING TAG TEAM FINANCIAL FRAUD, REFUSING TO REPAIR OR REPLACE MY BMW VEHICLE AND DENYING ME OF STATUTORY PERSONAL INJURY BENEFITS RESULTING FROM INJURIES SUSTAINED IN MY RECALLED 2011 BMW VEHICLE. WITH REGARD TO THE ONLY RECALL NOTICE WHICH BMW DID PROVIDE RE: THE TAKATA AIRBAGS, RATHER THAN AGREEING TO REPAIR MY TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE, BRAMAN BMW OF WEST PALM BEACH USED THE TAKATA RECALL AS A 'BAIT AND SWITCH' OPPORTUNITY TO SELL ME A NEW BMW VEHICLE. EVEN THOUGH BRAMAN'S WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA BMW MANAGER HAD FIRST HAND ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE THAT MY RECALLED BMW VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS, BRAMAN BMW REFUSED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE MY TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE; BUT CONTACTED ME MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED TIMES WITHIN SIX MONTHS TO SELL ME A NEW MODEL BMW. I HAVE FULL DOCUMENTATION OF ALL OF THE ABOVE. THANK YOU.

MY 2011 BMW 335I, WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS (>20MPH) AND TURNING (ONTO STREETS AND INTO PARKING LOTS) STALLS AND LOSES ALL ENGINE POWER. I AM ABLE TO RE-START CAR BUT THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER CAUSE SAFETY ISSUES BECAUSE CARS BEHIND YOU MAY HIT YOU. THIS HAS HAPPENED 7-10 TIMES SINCE 2012. I HAVE TAKEN IN THE CAR TO KELLY BMW AND MAG BMW IN COLUMBUS OHIO FOR INSPECTION ON AT LEAST 2 OCCASIONS, BUT DUE TO BMW'S WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS REGARDING REPLICATION AT THE SERVICE CENTER, THESE INTERMITTENT BUT SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES HAVE NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. FROM READING CUSTOMER FEEDBACK ON CONSUMER SITES, THIS IS A PREVALENT ISSUE AND IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BY BMW CORRECTLY. I AM HOPING TRANSPORTATION CAN HELP ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM.

TAKATA RECALL - I LIVE IN ZONE A/1; I WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE RECALL IN CY2016. BMW CANNOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT WHEN MY CAR WILL BE MADE SAFE AGAIN. NOW TAKATA IS BANKRUPT. HOW CAN I FORCE BMW TO FIX MY CAR? NOTE: 'WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN' DATE BELOW IS AN ESTIMATE.
TAKATA RECALL. MFGR CAMPAIGN #: SI B65 15 16. BMW 2011 335I COUPE. I'VE CONTACTED MY LOCAL BMW SERVICE CENTER AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NO PARTS AVAILABLE. I RECEIVED THE FIRST RECALL NOTICE LAST MARCH 2016, AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT, THEY SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS. IT'S NOW OVER A YEAR AND BMW IS CLAIMING THE SAME THING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED COLD START ISSUE SINCE ABOUT A YEAR AGO, IT CRANKS AND START UP FINE HOWEVER THE ENGINE RPM WILL DROP AND STRUGGLE TO STAY AT IDLE, ENGINE EVENTUALLY WILL STALL WITHIN 2-3 SECONDS. LAST WEEK WHILE WAITING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A LOCAL STREET, THE ENGINE STALL ON ITS OWN, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT WENT AWAY AFTER A MINUTE, I MANAGED TO RESTART AND DROVE TO DESTINATION. THIS WAS THE FIRST EXPERIENCE OF STALLING DURING NORMAL DRIVING AND FIRST INCIDENT WHICH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. BROUGHT A CAR TO A INDEPENDENT BMW TECHNICIAN AND FAULT CODE WAS INDICATING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS THE SOURCE OF STALLING.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM BMW ON MARCH 2016 ABOUT THE AIRBAG MODULE RECALL, THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS AT THAT TIME , IT'S BEING ONE YEAR AND STILL BMW HASN'T FIXED MY CAR, NOW THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DEFECTIVE TOO, SO ME AND MY FAMILY ARE ALWAYS IN HIGH RISK BECAUSE BMW DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THANK YOU FOR THE ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

TAKATA RECALL: I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY RECALL TO BE FIXED. I'VE READ THAT THEY ARE FIXING OLDER MODELS AND THOSE IN HIGH HUMIDITY FIRST, BUT FIND IT INTERESTING THAT I RECEIVED A NOTICE TO FIX THE RECALL ON THE 2013 LEASED BMW BEFORE MY 2011 OWNED BMW. I LIVE IN FL AND THOUGH I GOT THE NOTICE FOR THE LEASE, I HAD ALREADY TURNED THE LEASE BACK IN AND WAS NO LONGER IN POSSESSION OF IT. NOW OVER A YEAR LATER SINCE THE THE BEGINNING OF THE RECALL AND STILL NO REPLACEMENT PIECE FOR MY RECALL ON AN OLDER MODEL IN HIGH HUMIDITY. I TURNED IN THE LEASE IN JULY OF 2016 AND GOT THE NOTICE ABOUT A WEEK AFTER TURNING IT IN AND NOW 7 MONTHS AFTER THAT AND STILL NO NEWS ON WHEN MY RECALL WILL BE DEALT WITH. SOME INFORMATION WOULD BE NICE TO OWNERS STILL WAITING FOR RECALLS.
TAKATA RECALL. THIS RECALL IS BEEN ISSUED FOR A VERY LONG TIME BUT BMW STILL HASN'T NOTIFIED ME FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED PROMPTLY.

THE CODE P02CE (CYLINDER 2 FUEL INJECTOR OFFSET LEARNING T MIN LIMIT) THE ISSUE IS THIS IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM FOR ME AND NOW STARTS TO HAPPEN EVERY 6 MONTHS. LAST ONE WAS IN JULY 2016. LOOKS LIKE SOME DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN HANDLE THIS SCENARIO. THE BARELY HAS 35K MILES.
DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK AS A RESULT OF INTERIOR DOUBLE PULL ON HANDLE. NEED TO PRESS INTERIOR DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON ON CENTER PANEL. BMW 335D AUTOMATIC WITH APPROX 60K MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE, SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND FILL WITH SMOKE. THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS WENT OFF FROM THE VIOLENT SHAKING. MY HUSBAND PILOTED IT ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER. THE CENTER CONSOLE AND SHIFTER WERE LIFTED UP SEVERAL INCHES. WE WERE SHOCKED THAT WE DID NOT WRECK. WE SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CALLED BMW ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS 100% MECHANICAL FAILURE AND THE DRIVESHAFT BROKE AND CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR IT. *TR

VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLS AT LOW RPM (LESS THAN 650) AND LOW SPEED (LESS THAN 10MPH) WHILE DRIVING. STALL HAPPENS IN EVERY 300-500 MILES AND CAR LOOSES POWER (STEERING WHEEL AND OTHER POWER) WHILE ON STALL MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. CAR DOESN'T THROUGH ANY FAULT CODE TO THE SYSTEM IF STALLS. MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA BMW DEALER'S TECHNICIAN COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE STALL AS IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND SERVICE AGENT SUGGESTED ME TO KEEP DRIVING TILL IT GETS FREQUENT SO THAT THEY CAN REPRODUCE AT THE DEALERSHIP. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335-I. COMMENTS: I WAS DRIVING MY ON A LONG UPHILL SECTION WITH PLENTY OF ROOM TO PASS AND I STARTED PASSING TWO CARS WHEN MY ENGINE LOST POWER AND STALLED. THE CARS I WAS PASSING KINDLY STARTED TO SLOW DOWN TO LET ME MOVE PAST THEM, BUT I KEPT SLOWING DOWN AT THE SAME RATE AS THEY WERE, REMAINING SIDE BY SIDE WITH THEM, LEAVING ME NO ROOM TO MOVE BACK TO THE RIGHT AND WITH THE TRUCK COMING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION CLOSER AND CLOSER. EVENTUALLY I FELT I HAD NO CHOICE, AND MANAGED TO GET OFF THE ROAD ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE SO THE TRUCK COULD PASS BETWEEN THE TWO CARS AND MINE. I TRIED TO RESTART MY CAR. IT DID START ALBEIT WITH THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION ? REDUCED POWER LIGHT ON. THE RECURRED THE NEXT DAY I DROVE MY CAR TO BMW OF DARIEN WHICH TOLD ME THAT FOR THE THIRD TIME (TWICE ON MY PREVIOUS 2008 335IS CONVERTIBLE) THE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. THEN I RECEIVED RECALL NO. 13V-044: POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM ABOUT A POTENTIAL FAILURE OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RESULTING IN ENGINE STALLING, BUT COULD NOT EVER GET AN ANSWER FROM BMW WHETHER THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE STALLS WITH MY CAR WAS REALLY THE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS DANGEROUS ENGINE FAILURE FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS. BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN COMPLETELY EVASIVE. ONE GENTLEMAN CALLED ME ONCE ON MY CELLPHONE, NOT ON THE PHONE NUMBER I HAD PROVIDED. I CALLED THEM AND WROTE TO THEM MULTIPLE TIMES. I AM HAPPY TO PROVIDE YOU WITH COPIES OF THAT CORRESPONDENCE THAT SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE A RESPONSE! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LOOKING INTO THIS. BEST REGARDS.THE CONTACT REQUESTED THE COMPLAINT TO FILED IN THEIR OWN WORDS PULLED FROM AN EMAIL SENT TO NHTSA.
BEFORE I START MY DESCRIPTION I NEED TO MENTION THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR ALL RECALL NOTICES RELATED TO THE VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL!! ON DECEMBER 15, 2015 MY 2011 BMW 335I SPORT MODEL STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THERE WAS NO WARNING MESSAGES FOR THIS ISSUE. SEVERAL MINUTES PRIOR TO THE CAR STOPPING I RECEIVED A WARNING MESSAGE THAT MY WIND SHIELD WIPER FLUID WAS LOW. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT WITH TRAFFIC ON A CITY STREET APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH ON A CLEAR EVENING, NO WEATHER ISSUES. THE STEARING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN AND WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELLERATE AND IT SLOWED DOWN . I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND MOVED TO A SAFE LANE WHERE THERE WE NO CARS DRIVING, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND WAITED FOR A MINUTE. I CHECKED MY VEHICLE STATUS MENU TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES, WHICH THERE WE NONE INDICATED. I PUT THE KEY BACK INTO THE IGNITION, PRESSED THE GAS AND THE CAR STARTED. I DROVE ABOUT A QUARTER MILE TO A PARKING LOT AND CALLED BMW ASSIST TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND ASK IF THERE WAS ANYTHING IN THE VEHICLE THAT COULD CHECK THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS ISSUE TO OCCUR. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AT THAT TIME BUT I SHOULD BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER ON DECEMBER 17TH AND WAITED WHILE IT WAS CHECKED. THEY COULDN'T FIND A REASON FOR THE OCCURANCE. THIS TYPE OF ISSUE IS NOT STORED ON MY BMW KEY WITH IT HAPPENS. THE ISSUE HAS NOT OCCURRED SINCE 12/15/15 BUT I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN DURING MY CITY OR HIGHWAY DRIVING. THERE MUST BE A REASON THAT THE CAR STOPPED AND I'M ENTERING THIS ISSUE IN HOPES THAT TESTING WILL BE DONE ON MY MODEL YEAR TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS CUASED BY A SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE ISSUE. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS NEEDED. *JS

THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE ACCELERATING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND STRANDED ME IN THE INTERSECTION. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AT FIRST. IT WOULD NOT EVEN CRANK. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR IT FINALLY RESPONDED AND STARTED. IT STALLED 4 MORE TIMES DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. CAR WENT IN FOR SERVICE THURSDAY THE 31TH AND WAS RETURNED TO ME SATURDAY THE 1ST OF AUGUST. STALLING ISSUE IS BACK AND THE CAR IS NOW BEING TOWED IN FOR SERVICE AGAIN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE. THERE WAS ANOTHER 335D IN FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALER ALSO EXPERIENCING STALLING ISSUES!!!!!
THE SUNROOF EXPLODED FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY.
WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP INTO TRAFFIC, THE CHARGE PIPE LEADING FROM TURBO TO ENGINE RUPTURED CAUSING A DANGEROUS LOSS OF POWER WHICH RESULTED IN A NEAR COLLISION. BMW USES PLASTIC FOR THE CHARGE PIPE WHICH IS EASILY CRACKED UNDER NORMAL TURBO BOOST LOADS.
THIS IS A KNOW FAULT PROBLEM THAT IS DIRECTLY TIED TO EMISSIONS OF THE DEISEL ENGINE STARTING AT 2008-2012 FOR ALL BMW DEISEL ENGINES. MAYBE EVEN NEWER MODELS. THIS SO CALLED SCR TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAT IS LOCATED INSIDE THE DEF (UREA) TANK FAILS, WHICH IN TERM FAILS THE SMOG INSPECTION IF IT IS NOT REPLACED. SOME OWNERS AND DEALERS HAVE REPLACED THIS TANK/SENSOR ( WHICH IS ONE PART TOGETHER, CANT BUY SEPARATELY) UNDER EMISSIONS WARENTY. BUT MOST DEALERS WILL DENY THE FACT THIS SYSTEM IS THE PRIMARY SYSTEM OF EMMISSION. AND IF IT'S NOT WORKING HOW INTENDED I'M SURE EMISSIONS OF THIS CAR WON'T MEETC THE FEDERAL OR STATE REQUIRMENT. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND GET THIS FIXED/ ADDED TO THE EMMISSION SYSTEM FAILURE LIST.
WHEN PARALLEL PARKING THIS 335I THE CAR WILL LUNGE OR SURGE WITH UP TO A 50 PERCENT INCREASE OF ENGINE POWER WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED TO EITHER EXTREME OF TRAVEL. THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED TO THE END OF TRAVEL TO OBTAIN MINIMUM TURNING RADIUS. THIS LUNGING MAKES THE CONTROL OF THE CAR UNCERTAIN IN THOSE TIGHT MANEUVERING SPACES THAT HAPPEN WHEN PARKING.

UPON DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (70+MPH) THE CAR SLOWED DOWN (ENGINE BRAKING) TO APPROX 40MPH INSTANTLY. THE CARS BEHIND ME WERE FORCED TO BRAKE FORCEFULLY. AN ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED BECAUSE IT WAS SUNDAY MORNING AND LIGHT TRAFFIC. THE CAR DISPLAYED "ENGINE MALFUNCTION-DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP". THE CAR WAS WITHOUT POWER - JUST COASTING AT 40MPH OR SO, NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I MANAGED TO GET IT OVER TO THE DEALER - FIELDS BMW OF NORTHFIELD, IL. THEY KEPT IT FOR A WEEK - TOLD ME IT WAS A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION THAT CUT OFF POWER TO THE PRESSURE CONVERTER FOR THE TURBOCHARGER. WHEN ASKED IF THIS CAN HAPPEN AGAIN, THEY SAID POSSIBLY. I CALLED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-831-1117 SPOKE TO [XXX] EXTENSION [XXX]. I DESCRIBED THE LIFE THREATENING MALFUNCTION AND I ASKED HIM TO TALK TO THE ENGINEERS AND TO GET BACK TO ME ON WHETHER THIS CAN BE AVOIDED IN THE FUTURE. HE NEVER RESPONDED TO MY REQUESTS - I CALLED TODAY - 8/25 - HE TOLD ME AS FAR AS BMW OF NORTH AMERICA IS CONCERNED - THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THAT DUE TO THE POSSIBLE FUTURE LOSS OF LIFE, THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I AM AVAILABLE FOR COMMENTS/CONTACT. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V176000 (CAMSHAFT BOLTS/VANOS) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPECTED DATE FOR THE REMEDY PART TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I BOUGHT THIS 2011 BMW 335D USED IN APRIL OF 2014 WITH ONLY 18,500 MILES ON IT. THIS CAR RUNS ON DIESEL. AS SOON AS I STARTED DRIVING THE CAR ON THE DAILY BASIS I NOTICED A SMELL OF SULFUR OR EXHAUST INSIDE THE CABIN. EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR AND ESPECIALLY WHEN I ACCELERATE I CAN SMELL IT WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED. IT NEVER GOES AWAY AND IS VERY DISTINCTIVE IN ITS NATURE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND AND FIXED SOME OIL LEAK BUT IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE WITH THE SMELL. I THINK THE SMELL COULD HAVE A LONG-TERM NEGATIVE EFFECT ON MY HEALTH AND I THINK BMW MUST RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM. TO ME IT LOOKS AS IF THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND THE GAS ENTERS THE CABIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS TAKING TOO LONG TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V176000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I HAVE HAD AN INCIDENT WITH MY CAR WHERE MY CAR DIED WHILING GOING ON TO MY MILITARY BASE. AFTER FINDING OUT THE ISSUE AND GETTING IT WORKED ON, I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THERE ARE SEVERAL PUBLIC COMPLAINTS OF USERS RISKING THEIR LIVES DUE TO A DOCUMENTED DEFECT WITH N55 ENGINES PRODUCED FROM 2/2010 TO 12/2010. THIS ENGINE IS USED IN SEVERAL BMW MODELS, MINE INCLUDED. BOTH (INTAKE AND/OR EXHAUST) OF THE VANOS GEAR ASSEMBLIES HAVE FAILED; THE ATTACHING BOLTS MAY HAVE ALSO LOOSENED AND/OR BROKEN. THIS HAS SOMETIMES CAUSED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, RESULTING IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND FAILURE OF THE ENGINE. BMW HAS ISSUED A SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETIN SI B12 14 12 BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO PREVENT THIS ISSUE, EVEN IF THE VEHICLES ARE RELATIVELY NEW, AND STILL UNDER BASE WARRANTY. I HAD TO PAY $3700 FOR A JOB THAT SHOULD OF BEEN COVERED. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS CONCERNING MY 2011 BMW 335I. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BMW SINCE ABOUT 9000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES KEEP LOCKING, THE ROTORS KEEP GRINDING AND GROOVING, NOSE COMING FROM THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING AND STOPPING, AND THE DEALER HAS CHANGED THEM MORE THAN 3 TIMES AND THE ISSUES CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THEY CANNOT FIX IT AND THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY VEHICLE ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN PARKED FROM MORE THAN A YEAR AND A HALF AND I FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I FEEL LIKE MY LIFE IS IN DANGER IF I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. *TR

BMW OF NORTH AMERICA REFERENCE: BMW 335I CABRIO VIN: [XXXX] I WOULD LIKE TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION THE RESPONSE OF ADVANTAGE BMW, HOUSTON, TEXAS IN ADDRESSING RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 13V-044: POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM (NOTICE MAILED BY BMW OF NORTH AMERICA). THIS NOTIFICATION ARRIVED AT MY HOME [XXXX] VIA THE USPS ON 30 AUGUST, 2013. THE INSTRUCTION, UNDER THE SECTION PRECAUTION FOR YOUR SAFETY, 1) CONTACT YOUR AUTHORIZED BMW CENTER IMMEDIATELY TO HAVE THE NECESSARY REPAIR PERFORMED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (ALL CAPS PER THE BMW LETTER). I CALLED ADVANTAGE BMW THIS MORNING, 31 AUGUST 2013 TO MAKE ANY APPOINTMENT AND WAS TOLD 'THAT NOTICE HAS BEEN OUT FOR A FEW MONTHS, AND WE WILL DEAL WITH IT AT THE NEXT SERVICE INTERVAL". PLEASE ADVISE WHAT STEPS YOU INTEND TO TAKE TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP (THAT SOLD ME THIS CAR IN NEW CONDITION) CARRY OUT WORK THAT IS MANDATED BY THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ADMINISTRATION. *JS INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
MONDAY MORNING PULLED THE CAR OFF THE GARAGE AND NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE LIGHT WAS ON. THOUGHT IT WAS A NAIL IN THE TIRE AND STOPPED AT NTB TO FIX IT. AFTER TAKING THE WHEEL OFF THE CAR, THE MECHANIC CALLED ME AND INDICATED THAT THE RIM WAS CRACKED AND THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. MY CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY SO CALLED BMW AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOOK THE TIRE OFF THE RIM AND MADE PICTURES, HOWEVER THEY KEPT A NEUTRAL TONE SAYING THAT BMW DOES NOT COVER WHEELS AND TIRES UNDER WARRANTY, MOSTLY BECAUSE I PROBABLY HIT A POTHOLE. THE WHEEL HAS NO CURB DAMAGE AND THE CAR IS DRIVEN 50 MILES/DAY HIGHWAY. I DID NOT DAMAGE THIS WHEEL AND IT APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, ONE OF MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN ALREADY ON THE NET. WHEN IS BMW GOING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCT, SPECIALLY WHEN THINKING THAT A WHEEL MIGHT RUPTURE ON THE ROAD, AT 50-60MPH? *TR
MY RIGHT REAR TIRE KEPT LEAKING AIR, SO I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A TIRE SHOP. THE TIRE SHOP FOUND OUT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE RIM MOST PROBABLY BECAUSE OF A POTHOLE, SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS POSSIBLE AND I GOT THE CRACK FIXED. EVER SINCE I HAD THIS ISSUE, I HAD BEEN DRIVING VERY CAREFULLY AND AVOIDING ANY POTHOLES. AFTER A FEW MONTHS, NOW MY LEFT REAR TIRE HAS THE SAME EXACT REASON. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON SOME ONLINE BMW FORUMS AND PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR AND RIM ARE REPORTING SIMILAR ISSUE. BMW REFUSES TO REPLACE THE RIM SAYING IT'S MY FAULT AND THAT I PROBABLY HIT A POT HOLE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN THROUGH FOUR INCHES OF WATER WHEN IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE HYDRO LOCK FAILED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 7,400. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WOULD FORMALLY LIKE TO REPORT A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN I HAVE REGARDING MY NEW 2011 BMW 335IS CONVERTIBLE. FROM A STANDSTILL WITHOUT MODIFYING ANY OF THE DEFAULT CONFIGURATIONS ON THE CAR, FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD (AS EXPECTED) AND THEN POWER COMPLETELY CUTS OUT FOR A SECOND AND THEN WILL CONTINUE ON ITS WAY. MY GUESS IS THE DSC IS KICKING IN CAUSING POWER TO BE REDUCED AND THEN RE-ESTABLISHED. MY CONCERN IS THAT A BRAND NEW CAR SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE FLOORED WITHOUT THIS HAPPENING. I RECENTLY HAD THIS EXACT SITUATION OCCUR AS I WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND VERY NARROWLY MISSED GETTING PUMMELED BY ANOTHER CAR WHEN POWER WAS CUT TO MY CAR. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO MY BMW SERVICE STATION AND ALTHOUGH THEY AGREE THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT DO THIS?THEY AT THE SAME TIME SAY THE CAR IS OPERATING NORMALLY. THEIR ADVICE WAS TO TURN OFF DSC IN A SITUATION I WANT TO FLOOR IT. THIS IS MY 3RD BMW 3 SERIES CONVERTIBLE AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS. ALSO, I DO NOT THINK THE DRIVER SHOULD BE FORCED TO CONSIDER THIS BEFORE PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. AND, IF I WERE TO LEND MY CAR TO A FAMILY MEMBER, HOW WOULD THEY KNOW. *TR
MY REAR TIRE SLOWLY STARTED TO LOSE AIR PRESSURE DURING FREEWAY COMMUTING IN LOS ANGELES AREA. SAVAGE BMW IN ONTARIO COULDN'T AT FIRST DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND SUGGESTED IT WAS A TIRE LEAK AND TO TAKE IT TO A TIRE SHOP. THE TIRE SHOP FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRE AND SAID TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM BY DUNKING IT INTO A WATER TANK....A CRACKED RIM...CRACKED ON THE INSIDE....THIS WAS CAUSING THE AIR TO LEAK OUT MORE AND MORE AS I DROVE. IT WAS TO THE POINT THAT I WAS FILLING UP AIR EVERY DAY. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I PROBABLY HIT A POTHOLE AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, SO I FIGURED THEY WERE RIGHT AND PAID FOR THE NEW RIM. NOW SEVERAL MONTHS LATER (AND DOING VERY CAREFUL DRIVING TO ENSURE I DON'T HIT ANY POTHOLES OR ROUGH SURFACES), I FOUND THE OTHER REAR TIRE DOING THE SAME THING. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO CREVIER BMW AND TOLD THEM I SUSPECTED IT MIGHT BE CRACKED TOO. THEY RETURNED THE CAR TO ME WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS AND TOLD ME IT JUST NEEDED AIR, AND EVERYTHING WAS OK. TODAY (THE VERY NEXT DAY), I DROVE TO WORK AND MY TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR SAID THE SAME TIRE WAS LOW. I IMMEDIATELY ADDED AIR 46 PSI PER BMW DOOR LABEL...AND GOT ON FWY TO GO HOME. WITHIN 5 MINUTES ON THE FWY, MY WHEEL WAS MAKING A HORRIBLE VIBRATION AS IF IT WAS ABOUT TO COME APART. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF FWY AND GOT A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE ME BACK TO DEALER. AFTER A HEATED DEBATE WITH BMW SERVICE MANAGER, THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T PAY FOR MY TOW, NOR THE WHEEL (IF IT IS CRACKED)...AND THAT ITS DUE TO MY DRIVING HABITS. PREPOSTEROUS! I BABY MY CAR, ESPECIALLY AFTER PAYING FOR THE 1ST RIM. I AM FURIOUS THAT BMW IS IGNORING AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE WHEEL DESIGN. I'VE OWNER SEVERAL BMW CARS AND OTHER LOW PROFILE TIRE/WHEEL AUTOMOBILES...DRIVEN ON THE SAME ROADS....AND NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE. IM VERY CONCERNED THAT 1) A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD IS BEING IGNORED AND 2) THAT IM NOT RECEIVING FAIR TREATMENT. I WILL RETRIEVE THE RIM AND TIRE FOR PROOF. *TR
THE RADIO STARTED TO BUZZ AND IT WOULD NOT STOP, WHETHER I TURNED IT OFF, STOPPED THE CAR, OPENED AND CLOSED ALL THE DOORS, NOT UNTIL I GOT HOME AND THE CAR HAD BEEN OFF FOR 10 MINUTES. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS A DESIGN ISSUE, BUT WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE IS AN OVERLOAD IN THE RADIO WHICH ALSO SERVES AS A BUS FOR THE COMPUTER. *TT
DELAY IN DCT/THROTTLE ENGAGEMENT AFTER SLOWING TO A ROLL, THEN PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS- THE DELAY IS BETWEEN 1-2SECONDS, AND I KNOW SOME OTHER FOLKS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. S-MODE PLUS SPORT BUTTON, ELIMINATED THIS PROBLEM. THIS OCCURS WHEN I'VE SLOWED TO A STOP, THEN WANT TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. I WAS SCARED TWICE, AND NOW HAVE BECOME AN "OLD MAN DRIVER" ACCORDING TO MY GIRLFRIEND, I DO NOT PULLOUT IN FRONT OF CARS UNLESS I KNOW THE DELAY OF 1-2SEC WON'T BE A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A NEW BMW X3 35I. WHILE DRIVING ALONG AT A STEADY PACE, THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS FOR "BRAKE FAILURE", "ALB FAILURE" AND "DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL FAILURE" ALL CAME ON. THE CARS COMPUTER DISPLAY ALSO DISPLAYED A BRAKE AND AWD SYSTEM FAILURE AND SPECIFIED THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY AND CAREFULLY DRIVEN TO A DEALER. AFTER CAREFULLY EVALUATING THE BARKING SYSTEM, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE BRAKES AND AWD SYSTEMS WERE FULLY FUNCTIONAL, AND THERE WAS NO FAILURE. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE, AND THEN RE-STARTING, THE ERROR "CLEARED" AND ALL DISPLAYS WERE NORMAL. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND NO PROBLEMS. THIS OCCURS RANDOMLY. I'VE SPOKEN WITH (2) OTHER 2011 X3 OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND THEIR DEALERS ALSO CANNOT FIND THE CAUSE/\.. THE DANGER HERE IS THAT OWNERS WILL IGNORE THE WARNING WHEN A TRUE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE FINALLY OCCURS. BMW CLAIMS THE CAR IS "TOO NEW" FOR THEM TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. SINCE IT'S BRAKE AND STABILITY CONTROL RELATED, I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION AND NEED MORE ATTENTION THAN BMW IS GIVING IT. *TR
WHEN GOING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION INSTEAD OF DOWNSHIFTING THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND ONLY WENT BACK IN GEAR AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS. *TR
