BMW SAID THEY REPLACED THE STEM SEAL OR VALVE SEAL AROUND 50K MILES I GOT THE CAR AROUND 69K MILE AND AFTER IT HIT 90K MILE I STARTED TO SEE SOME SMOKE I REALLY DIDNT PAY ATTENTION UNTIL ONE DAY I WAS COIMING OUT OF MY HOUSE THEN THAT'S WHEN I SEEN THE BLUISH SMOKE I CALLED BMW AND SAID IF THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK REALLY REPLACED THE SEAL CAUSE IF THEY DID AND FOR IT TO SMOKE AGAIN THE CAR HAS NOW 143K MILES AND I CAN'T SMOG IT CAUSE OF THE SMOKE IT WON'T PASS SMOG CHECK HERE IN CALIFORNIA
DOOR OPENING DEFECT. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD LOCK AND NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE POSING A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AS ONE CANNOT GET OUT OF VEHICLE IN EMERGENCY. THIS IS NOTED WHEN VEHICLE IS IN STATIONARY OR PARKED POSITION.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AUXILIARY WATER PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SIMILAR VEHICLES HOWEVER, THE VIN SHOWED NO OPEN RECALLS. FIELDS BMW LAKELAND (4285 LAKELAND PARK DR, LAKELAND, FL 33809) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA.GOV WEBSITE. THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V248000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

ENGINE INFORMATION CENTER SAYS TO ADD OIL, IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, NUMEROUS TIMES. CAR SHUT DOWN ON ROAD AND WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. DEALER SAYS THE ENGINE HAS SEIZED. SINCE THE VEHICLE IS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY BY MILES, PAX 500 MILES, I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CAR ONLY HAS JUST OVER 50K MILES. IT WAS PURCHASED WITH 40K MILES ON IT BUT WAS PURCHASED FROM A DEALER NOT BMW. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE?
THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2014. FIRST, IT WAS UNKNOWN ISSUES THAT RESULTED IN THE INJECTORS, SPARK PLUGS, AND BATTERY BEING REPLACED. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT WENT BACK TO THEM SEVERAL MORE TIMES BEFORE THEY EVENTUALLY BROUGHT AN ENGINEER IN THAT DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN. THIS RESULTED IN A NEW TIMING CHAIN AND ALL PARTS ASSOCIATED AT 60,000 MILES. SINCE THEN WE HAVE HAD RECALL WORK A COUPLE OF TIMES. WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE TURBO COOLANT LINES REPLACED AND WE HAD TO HAVE A NEW WATER PUMP PUT IN AT 80,000 MILES BECAUSE OURS APPARENTLY FELL APART. THE CAR NEEDS A QUART OF OIL EVERY 500-700 MILES (THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE BEGINNING BUT IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE) AND THE NEWEST PROBLEM IS THAT IT THREW A DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION ERROR DRIVING UP A HILL. THIS ERROR IS RELATED TO A COMPLETE LACK OF COMPRESSION IN CYLINDER 3. THE CAR HAS 125,000 MILES. THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN BOUGHT BACK AS A LEMON BUT BMW ALWAYS HAS SOME EXCUSE.
ON JULY 19, 2019, I DROVE MY CAR 2.5 MILES FROM MY OFFICE AND PARKED THE CAR AT MY RESIDENCE. THE CAR WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT AND NEXT DAY THE CAR FAILED TO START. WHEN THE HOOD WAS OPEN THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE OVERNIGHT WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED, LUCKY THE FIRE WAS SELF CONTAINED AND DID NOT SPREAD TO NEARBY HOMES. I CONTACTED MR. MIKE DISCEPOLO WITH BMW NORTH AMERICA AND AFTER 30 DAYS OF INVESTIGATION HE TOLD ME THAT THE FIRE WAS BECAUSE I FAILED TO MAINTAIN MY CAR, I SEARCHED THE NET AND HIS ANSWER WAS CONSISTENT WITH ANSWERS TO OTHER BMW CARS THAT START FIRE WHILE PARKED. ABC NIGHTLINE AND OTHER TV STATIONS INVESTIGATED PARKED BMW CARS FIRE AND BMW DENY THE PROBLEM. SINCE JAN 2014 THE FUEL INJECTORS FAILED AND REPLACED 2 TIMES AND THE VEH IS CURRENTLY AT THE POSITION OF CRTIZ BMW DEALERSHIP IN GA SINCE FEB 12/2015 TO REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS FOR THE 3RD TIME AND ALSO TO REPAIR THE SEAT BELT MALF ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE THAT WERE FAILED TO WORK SINCE FEB OF 2014. ON FEB OF 2014 I HAVE REACHED OUT TO CRITZ BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO [XXX] AND ALSO CONTACTED BMW IN JUNE OF 2014 TO CUST CARE INDIVIDUALS AND [XXX], [XXX]THE CUSTOMER RELATION MGR MANY TIMES FROM OVER 6 MONTHS ABOUT THE SEAT BELT MALF SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THEN TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED BUT I WAS TOLD THAT BMW COULDN'T DUPLICATE OR REPAIR THE SEAT BELT. 3 PASSENGERS INCLUDING MY WIFE WERE AT RISK AND SAW THE LIGHT FOR SEAT BELT MALF WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON IN THIS VEH WHILE SETTING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND I ALSO HAVE PHOTOS DATED SINCE FEB 2014. THE WARNING INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG WON'T DEPLOY IN CASE OF ANY ACCIDENT AND I HAD TO STOP THE VEH WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR THE PASSENGER'S SAFETY AND I ALSO CONTACTED BMW EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTIONS. [XXX] AT CRITZ BMW MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE DEPT AND BMW ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THE SEAT BELT AND THAT THEY ARE IN CONTACT TO REPLACE THE SEAT MAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSOR. I WAS OFFERED BY BMW TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE AND I TOLD [XXX] THAT I WILL NOT TRADE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL ITS FIXED SINCE I DON'T WANT TO PUT SOMEONE'S LIFE IN DANGER DUE TO THE SEAT BELT ISSUE THAT BMW COULDN'T FIX AND I TOLD THEM THAT THEY CAN SIMPLY REPURCHASE, REPLACE OR REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. ON MARCH 12/2015 [XXX] TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE THAT THE BMW COULDN'T DUPLICATE OR REPAIR THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. I TOLD [XXX] OVER THE PHONE THAT I WILL NOT RISK THE LIFE OF MY WIFE OR ANY OTHER PERSON DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. BMW SIMPLY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT IT AND THAT THEY WILL BE CLOSING MY CASE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TESTED AND DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE DETAILS WERE UNKNOWN. VOLVO CARS NEW BERN (3405 DOCTOR M.L.K. JR BLVD, NEW BERN, NC 28562, (252) 638-6161) DIAGNOSED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. I RECEIVED A CARD IN THE MAIL FROM BMW OF NORTH AMERICA INFORMING ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP OF MY 2011 BMW 550I. WHEN WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN AMARILLO TEXAS, AUTOPLEX BMW, WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] THAT WE ARE WELCOME TO BUY NEW CARS FROM THEM BUT THEY WILL NO LONGER HONER WARRANTY OR RECALL WORK FOR ANYONE WITH THE LAST NAME [XXX] OR WHO IS RELATED TO OR AFFILIATED WITH [XXX] IS THERE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN GIVE WITH THIS MATTER? WHILE DRIVING WITH AC ON SMOKE STARTED COMING HEAVILY FOR THE INTERIOR AC VENTS. A VERY TOXIC SMOKE, WITH ELECTRICAL SMELL. I NOTICED THE BMW 3 SERIES HAS A RECALL ON ELECTRICAL BLOWER PROBLEM. I THINK MY CAR HAS THE SAME ISSUE.
THE ENGINE STOP WORKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON, OIL OK MAINTENANCE OK, DEALER SAID ENGINE WAS NO GOOD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. NO EXPLANATION GIVEN!!
DURING DRIVING ON THE STREET, I STARTED TO SMELL LIKE TOXIC BURNING LIKE RUBBER AND/OR ANTIFREEZE BURNING AND WHEN I STOP AT HOME I COULD SEE LITTLE STEAM COMING FROM THE HOOD AREA AND ALSO OIL LEAK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE-TRANSMISSION REGION. I STOPPED DRIVING THE CAR NOW.
WHILE MAKE TURNS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AXEL MAKES POPPING NOISE AND STEERING WHEEL JERKS VIOLENTLY. TOOK TO SHOP THEY SAID NOTHING FOUND WRONG WITH CAR. CV AXEL REPLACED ON BOTH SIDES PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.ALSO NOT EVEN 10K MILES THE CAR WENT THRU 2 BELT TENSIONER CAUSING THE DRIVE BELT TO SNAP/TEAR.
THIS VEHICLE WHEN BEING USED HAS EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF OIL AND OIL LEAKS. THIS PROBLEM CAUSE THE ENGINE, ENGINE TURBOS, VALVE STEMS AND SEALS AND OIL PAN SEALS TO GO BAD PRIOR TO NORMAL VEHICLE ENGINE/PART LIFE. THERE IS CURRENTLY A SETTLED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT REPLACES THE ENGINE AT A PERCENTAGE BASED ON MILES ON CAR AT TIME OF BAD ENGINE TEST. I WAS ACCELERATING ON A BUSY FREEWAY RAMP WITH MY TWO YOUNG SONS ABOARD, AND MY CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. THE 2011 BMW 550I HAD JUST RECENTLY BEEN PARKED AND TURNED OFF. AFTER NO MORE THAN 10 MINUTES AFTER IT WAS PARKED, IT BURST INTO FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THEN VERY QUICKLY SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CAR. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN AN ATTACHED GARAGE THUS NOT ONLY COMPLETELY BURNING THE CAR TO THE GROUND BUT ALSO PARTIALLY BURNING THE HOME DOWN AS WELL. RESULTING IN OVER $250,000 IN DAMAGE. THIS VEHICLE HAD ONE OF THE N63 ENGINES IN IT WHICH BMW HAD THREE VOLUNTEER RECALLS TO "CORRECT" THE FUEL INJECTOR ISSUE. 5 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRE, A CERTIFIED BMW DEALERSHIP EXECUTED THE THIRD ATTEMPT AT THIS RECALL. THIS BMW WAS ALSO UNDER A FULL COVERAGE MAINTENANCE WARRANTY, THUS IT HAD ONLY BEEN TO CERTIFIED BMW SERVICE CENTERS. DURING THE LAST RECALL UNDER CAMPAIGN 0013480200 SIB 11 16 14 IN CONJUNCTION WITH SIB 11 06 14 AND 61 30 14, THE OIL LIFE MILEAGE WAS REDUCED FROM 15,000 MILES TO 10,000 MILES WITH THE BMW SERVICE CENTER EXPLAINING THAT WAS PART OF THE CAMPAIGN BMW NA REQUESTED TO SERVICE THE VEHICLES MORE FREQUENTLY. WHEN I ASKED THE BMW REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THIS SPECIFICALLY AT THE FIRE INVESTIGATION HE SAID IT WAS DUE TO "EPA REQUIREMENTS". MY 2011 BMW 550I HAS THRICE HAD THIS WEIRD RESPONSE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. AFTER DRIVING FOR 30M-1H SUDDENLY GOT MULTIPLE DIFFERENT WARNING LIGHTS BEFORE I LOST CONTROL OF STEERING (STIFF LIKE A DEAD BODY) AND BRAKES FOLLOWING WHICH THE CAR STALLED. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THIS WAS A BAD BATTERY WHICH DID NOT MAKE SENSE BUT THE CAR WAS RUNNING THEREAFTER SO I TOOK IT HOME. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED - I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR A FEW MINUTES LATER AND TOOK THE RISK OF DRIVING HOME. THE DEALERSHIP SAID SINCE THE CAR WAS RUNNING THEY COULD NOT RUN ANY DIAGNOSIS. THEREAFTER THE CAR RAN FINE FOR 3 WEEKS AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING FOR 15 MINUTES WITH SEAT WARMERS ON MY HUSBAND (DRIVER) TURNED IT OFF. WE WERE TRAVELLING ON SUBURBAN ROADS AROUND 40 MPH. THEN AT A STOP LIGHT HE NOTICED A BURNING SMELL. WE CONTINUED DRIVING WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN. THEN I NOTICED THE SMELL A FEW SECONDS LATER, SO I OPENED A WINDOW EXPECTING TO FIND SMELL A FIRE NEARBY OR HEAR SIRENS. AT THAT POINT WE SAW A PLOOM OF SMOKE COME FROM UNDER HIS SEAT TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE OPEN WINDOW. HE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER, JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR AND TURNED EVERYTHING OFF. THE SMOKE TOOK SOME TIME TO CLEAR BUT DID STOP. SEVERAL MINUTES LATER WE DROVE 1 MILE TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD ITS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, AND WOULD COST $1,700 TO FIX. I DECLINED TO PAY $1,700 TO FIX AND REQUESTED THEY DISCONNECT SEAT HEATER. BMW PERSONNEL INFORMED ME IT COULD NOT DISCONNECT POWER TO SEAT HEATER WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE ENTIRE AC/HEAT SYSTEM. THIS IS A PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE, NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. FOR A SEAT HEATER TO CAUSE SMOKE IT CAUSED A FIRE AND THIS IS A DEFECT. THE CAR WILL CATCH ON FIRE IF THE SEAT WARMER IS ACTIVATED. I ASKED DEALERSHIP WHAT IF I LOAN MY CAR TO SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT THE DEFECT, THEY SUGGESTED PUTTING TAPE OVER THE BUTTON. TIRES - AS WITH ALL OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE GOODYEAR "RUN FLAT" TIRES, I HAVE HAD NO LESS THAN 7 BULGES REQUIRING 7 NEW TIRES. I DID PURCHASE AN EXTENDED TIRE WARRANTY SO BMW COVERED THE TIRES. THE ALARMING THING IS THAT BMW OF NORTH HOUSTON REFUSES TO ADMIT THERE ARE ANY ISSUE WITH THESE TIRES. FROM READING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS, I HAVE A HARD TIME BELIEVING IT IS THE DRIVER OR POTHOLES AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD. REPLACED THE REAR TIRES WITH COMPARABLE FIRESTONE TIRES AND I HAVE NOT HAD ONE ISSUE. I STILL HAVE THE GOODYEAR TIRES ON THE FRONT AND JUST TWO MONTHS AGO HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED. I AM CURRENTLY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE AND THE LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER/SERVICE CENTER, I BELIEVE THEY HAVE BEEN NEGLIGENT WITH THEIR ACTIONS TO MULTIPLE PROBLEMS THAT HAVE OCCURRED, INCLUDING THE REPAIR AND INSPECTION PERTAINING TO A RECALL OF THE N63 ENGINE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES IN THE PAST, INCLUDING SEVERAL "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTIONS" FOR WHICH I BELIEVE HAVE THE DATES AND SERVICE RECORDS THEY RELATE FUEL INJECTORS, BATTERY, PUMPS, ECT.. SINCE JANUARY 2015 I HAVE CONTACTED THE SERVICE CENTER, AUTOGERMANA BMW OF PUERTO RICO, TO REQUEST AN INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO RECURRENT ISSUES AND CONCERNS, THE REPRESENTATIVE INITIALLY TOLD ME THAT THE DEALER HAD RECEIVED NO INFORMATION ABOUT THE "RECALL" OR SERVICE BULLETIN "B001314". IN MARCH THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AGAIN AND THE "RECALL" WAS INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE ORDER BUT THEY ALLEGED THAT THEY DID'T HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE AND THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT ME AS SOON AS THEY BECAME AVAILABLE. THE REPRESENTATIVE EVEN RECOMMENDED AGAINST EXTENDING THE VEHICLE WARRANTY FOR REPAIRS UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND/OR INSPECTED AS IT RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE IS NOW PAST THE 50K MILE WARRANTY AND THE ISSUES HAVE NOT BEEN RESOLVED, AND AGAIN IT IS AT THEIR SERVICE CENTER BECAUSE OF A NEW "DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION". THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD AGAIN INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF THE MALFUNCTION HAD ANY RELATION TO THE PREVIOUS ISSUES AND /OR THE RECALL, IF IT HAS NO RELATION THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPAIRED WITHOUT THE WARRANTY COVERAGE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE SYSTEMATIC NEGLIGENCE OR QUITE POSSIBLY INTENTIONAL IRRESPONSIBILITY. AT THIS POINT LEGAL ACTION IS THE NEXT LOGICAL STEP. I APPEAL TO THE NHTSA FOR RESPONSIBLE ASSISTANCE WITH THESE SERVICE ISSUES AND A RESOLUTION OF THE PROBLEMS.
SINCE JANUARY 2014 THE FUEL INJECTORS FAILED AND REPLACED TWO TIMES AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE POSITION OF CRTIZ BMW DEALERSHIP IN SAVANNAH, GA SINCE FEBRUARY 12/2015 TO REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS FOR THE THIRD TIME AND ALSO TO REPAIR THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE THAT WERE FAILED TO WORK SINCE FEBRUARY OF 2014. ON FEBRUARY OF 2014 I HAVE REACHED OUT TO CRITZ BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ALSO CONTACTED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA IN JUNE OF 2014 TO CUSTOMER CARE INDIVIDUALS MANY TIMES FROM OVER SIX MONTHS ABOUT THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THEN TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED BUT I WAS TOLD THAT BMW COULDN??T DUPLICATE OR REPAIR THE SEAT BELT. THREE PASSENGERS INCLUDING MY WIFE WERE AT RISK AND SAW THE LIGHT FOR SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON IN THIS VEHICLE WHILE SETTING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND I ALSO HAVE PHOTOS DATED SINCE FEBRUARY 2014. THE WARNING INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG WON??T DEPLOY IN CASE OF ANY ACCIDENT AND I HAD TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR THE PASSENGER??S SAFETY AND I ALSO CONTACTED BMW EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTIONS. THE CRITZ BMW MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND BMW OF NORTH AMERICA ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE WITH THE SEAT BELT AND THAT THEY ARE IN CONTACT TO REPLACE THE SEAT MAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SENSOR. I WAS OFFERED BY BMW OF NORTH AMERICA TO TRADE THIS VEHICLE AND I TOLD BMW THAT I WILL NOT TRADE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL ITS FIXED SINCE I DON'T WANT TO PUT SOMEONES LIFE IN DANGER DUE TO THE SEAT BELT ISSUE THAT BMW COULDN'T FIX AND I TOLD THEM THAT THEY CAN SIMPLY REPURCHASE, REPLACE OR REPAIR THIS VEHICLE. ON MARCH 12/2015 THE BMW OF NORTH AMERICA COULDN'T DUPLICATE OR REPAIR THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTION ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT. *TR

BMW FOUND IRREGULAR TIRE WEAR ON THE FRONT TIRES BUT I HAVE A FULL WARRANTY ON ALL TIERS WITH BMW THAT I PURCHASED, THE WARRANTY IS BASED ON ALL THE ROAD HAZARDS AND THE CAUSE OF THE VIBRATION IS ROAD HAZARDS. BMW IS NOT REPLACING THE TIRES. 4- ENGINE MAKES BIG NOISE AT THE START AFTER PARKED FOR 8HRS OR MORE. 5- THE BACKUP CAMERA IS STOP WORKING SOMETIMES AND THE NAVIGATION IS LOADING SLOWLY. I BROUGHT THESE ISSUES TO CRITZ BMW DEALERSHIP AND ALSO CONTACTED BMWUSA CUSTOMER CARE BUT THEY SIMPLY COULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE AFTER MANY VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 45 DAYS OF WARRANTY LEFT ON THIS VEHICLE SO BMWUA IS GIVING ME A RUN AROUND AND EACH TIME SUPPORTING AND BACKING THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL MY WARRANTY EXPIRES. BMWUSA AND THE CRIZTE BMW DEALERSHIP BASICALLY DID NOT HONOR THEIR ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE WARRANTY CONTRACT TO FIX THE ISSUES THAT ARE STILL EXISTS ON THIS BMW. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO CRITZE BMW DEALERSHIP FOR MORE THAN FIVE TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY KEPT IT FOR 4 DAYS AND NOW FOR 21 DAYS AND THEY MIGHT KEEP IT FOR ANOTHER 14 DAYS TO FIX THE ONGOING ISSUE BUT THE RESULTS ARE FAILING AND THE ISSUE IS UNRESOLVED THE VEHICLE WENT FOR REPAIRS THIS YEAR FOR MORE THAN 40 DAYS. BMW IS HOLDING MY VEHICLE UNTIL THE MANUFACTURE WARRANT EXPIRES SO THEY CAN'T HAVE AN EXCUSE FOR NOT FIXING. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAIN WITH BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU BUT BBB REFERRED ME TO YOUR OFFICE SINCE GA LEMON LAW DOSE NOT APPLY TO A USED VEHICLE PURCHASED FROM BMW EVEN THOUGH WITH ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE WARRANTY. *TR
THE DRIVER DOOR DOES NOT SHUT INTERMITTENTLY THE DOOR RELEASE, DOOR UNLOCK/LOCK, DOOR HANDLE DOES NOT RELEASE THE STATE. THE CAR WON'T MOVE BECAUSE THE DOOR IS NOT LOCKED, IT CAN TAKE UPWARDS OF A FEW HOURS OF TINKLING TO GET THIS GOING AGAIN. THE DEALER HAS DILIGENTLY CHANGED SO MANY PARTS AND ITS NOT THAT THEY ARE NOT TRYING TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. IS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCING THIS OUT THERE. MY 4 YR WARRANTY WILL END IN JUNE AND I AM VVERY CONCERNED HOW I AM GOING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.

INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. OTHER VEHICLE GOING SOUTHBOUND CROSSED OVER MEDIAN STRIP OF HIGHWAY, HIT THREE CARS GOING NORTHBOUND, MINE WAS THIRD CAR TO BE STRUCK. OFFENDING CAR DID A 360 IN FRONT OF ME, I SLOWED TO ABOUT 25 AND HE MOVED INTO ME. I STRUCK HIS REAR PASSENGER SIDE CORNER. I HAD FRONT END DAMAGE OVER $5K. NO AIRBAG, BUT DEFAULT MESSAGES AND AN AIRBAG ICON CAME ON THE VIDEO SCREEN AND THE FRONT INSTRUMENT PANEL. IT STATES "DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG OR RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION." *JS
I BOUGHT THE CAR ON MAY 6, 2015 WITH ABOUT 53K MILES ON IT. DROVE IT FOR ONLY ABOUT 45 DAYS AND WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION AND OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY AND HAD THE CAR JUMPED BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK. THE CARE ENGINE WAS TOTALLY DEAD, NO SOUND NO ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE ENGINE LIGHT THAT POPPED ON BEFORE IT STOPPED. I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM GWC AT THE PURCHASE OF THE CAR SO INFORMED THEM. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A PLACE (LMC AUTO IN NORCROSS GEORGIA) THAT GWC WAS WILLING TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. LMC SAID THE ENGINE WAS LOCKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. GWC REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE EXPENSE AND INSTEAD HAD LMC AUTO REPAIR THE ENGINE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, LMC IS STILL REPAIRING THE ENGINE ALMOST 5MONTHS LATER. I HAD CALLED GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF CONSUMER PROTECTION, [XXX], ETC.. TRYING TO GET HELP WITH GETTING THE CAR FIXED. WHEN I TALKED TO BMW OF NORTH AMERICA THEY SAID THEY WARRANTY IS UP AT 50K MILES SO THEY CANNOT COMMIT TO DO ANYTHING. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENTIRE CAR STARTED SHAKING. I GET MULTIPLE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHTS AND THEN GET A "REDUCED POWER" ALERT ON MY DASHBOARD. THE FAULT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE FUEL INJECTORS IN THE ENGINE, HOWEVER I ALREADY KNEW THAT BY SIMPLY LOOKING UP THE SYMPTOMS. THOUSANDS OF BMW 5-SERIES MADE BETWEEN 2011-2012 HAVE THIS ISSUE, YET BMW IS NOT RECALLING THEM, BUT RATHER FIXING THEM ON A ONE-BY-ONE BASIS. IF SOMEONE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, LIKE ME, THEY ARE THEN CHARGING NEARLY $6,000 FOR A FAULT THAT AFFECTS OVER 50% OF 2011 BMW 550I'S MADE! BMW FORUMS EVERYWHERE TALK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND AS CARS MADE IN 2011 START RUNNING OUT OF THEIR WARRANTY IN LATE 2014, EARLY 2015, MORE AND MORE OF THEM WILL START SHOWING SYMPTOMS AND CONSUMERS WILL BE FORCED TO SHELL OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A FIX BMW SHOULD HAVE ADDRESSED IN A MANDATORY RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 BMW 550X M SPORT ON THE OHIO TURNPIKE IN JULY 2014 WHEN TWO BUBBLES STARTED TO FORM ON THE GOODYEAR LS-2 245/40R19 FRONT LEFT TIRE. GIVEN I ONLY HAD 70 MILES TO MY DESTINATION I CONTINUED AT THE 65 MPH. WELL, NEEDLESS TO SAY, AS I EXITED THE TURNPIKE THE FRONT LEFT TIRE FAILED. LOST ALL PRESSURE. THIS WASN'T EVEN THE TIRE I THOUGHT MIGHT FAIL. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE 30 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY ON TWO DANGEROUS TIRES SO I COULD GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO CALL FOR A TOW. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP 70 MILES AWAY. THESE WERE NEWLY REPLACED TIRES WITH ABOUT 5K MILES ON THEM. I'M ATTEMPTING TO GET THE TIRES REPLACED AT NO COST EVEN GIVEN THE UNSAFE TIRE RESULTS BUT IT'S MY ONLY OPTION AT THIS POINT GIVEN MY LOCATION. THE DEALER IS TRYING TO CHARGE FULL PRICE FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRES. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
DRIVING MY 69 YEAR OLD WIFE'S 2011 BMW 550IX WITH M SPORT PKG. WITH GOODYEAR RUN FLAT'S O.E.M. GERMAN TIRE'S WHEN THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SIDE WALL RUPTURED FOR NO REASON. CAR ALWAYS GARAGED AND 4900 MILES ON CAR. *TR
ADD OIL LIGHT CAME ON APPROXIMATELY EVERY 4000-5000 MILES STARTING AT 5000 MILES. OIL LEAKED ONTO GARAGE FLOOR. BMW DEALERSHIP REPEATEDLY CLAIMED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. AROUND 25,000 THEY TOLD ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD ISSUED A DATA SHEET SAYING THEY WERE CHANGING THE MAXIMUM OIL FILL CAPACITY. THE DEALER RESET THE OIL SENSOR AND ADDED MORE OIL. AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES THE TURBOS FAILED AND WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. AT 32,000 MILES THE VACUUM PUMP FAILED AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN THE VACUUM PUMP FAILED, THE CAR HAD A HORRENDOUS BURNING OIL SMELL AND THE BRAKES WERE VERY SPONGY. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED. THESE FAILURES AND REPAIRS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF BMW HAD TAKEN MY COMPLAINTS SERIOUSLY ABOUT THE OIL PROBLEM AND, IN MY OPINION, ENGINE DEFECTS AT 5,000 MILES WHEN I FIRST COMPLAINED. BMW REFUSES TO ISSUE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT HAS HAD TWO SERIOUS PROBLEMS THAT STARTED AT 5000 MILES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND SHIFTED INTO 3RD GEAR. THE CAR BEGAN TO BUCK VIOLENTLY. I PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH TO STOP THE BUCKING. I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE GAS PEDAL WAS NON-RESPONSIVE. THE VEHICLE THEN INDICATED THAT IT HAD A DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND DRIVE 0.5 MILES TO MY DESTINATION. WHILE PARKED, THE PARKING BRAKE ALSO MALFUNCTIONED AND I WAS UNABLE TO TURN IT OFF. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DESIGN DEFICIENCY WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR HAD TO DO WITH A BROKEN PLASTIC PART ON THE WATER CHANNEL THAT LEADS AROUND THE TRUNK. THE PLASTIC COVER IS SUPPOSED TO SNAP INTO A GROMMET THAT IS IN A HOLE, THUS SEALING THE HOLE FROM WATER. IN MY SITUATION, THE GROMMET WAS MISSING. GIVEN THE DESIGN OF THE PLASTIC PART, THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITHOUT REMOVING THE PLASTIC PART. THE HOLE THAT THE PLASTIC PIECE SNAPS INTO LEADS DIRECTLY INTO THE TRUNK. IN THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK ARE SENSITIVE ELECTRONIC MODULES THAT CONTROL THE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND THE PARKING BRAKE. THERE IS NO DRAIN IN THE TRUNK THAT WOULD ALLOW WATER TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT DURING A RAIN STORM. AS A RESULT OF THE DESIGN, I GOT WATER IN THE TRUNK, WHICH RUINED THESE TWO MODULES, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE BECOMING DISABLED WHILE DRIVING. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: I) AS A CONSUMER, I HAD NO IDEA THAT THE ELECTRONICS THAT ENABLE THE VEHICLE TO MANAGE FUEL WERE LOCATED IN THE TRUNK; II) THE DESIGN OF THE WATER CHANNEL AROUND THE TRUNK SEEMS INADEQUATE GIVEN THAT ANY FAILURE OF THE PLASTIC SHIELD / GROMMET COMBINATION WOULD LEAD TO WATER IN THE TRUNK AND EXPOSE THESE CRITICAL COMPONENTS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD 2 BUBBLES FORMING ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. JFT
I WAS REAR ENDED ON THE LEFT SIDE EXITING THE FREEWAY WHEN MY CAR SPUN TO THE RIGHT INTO A GUARDRAIL HEAD ON AND CONTINUED INTO A 360 DEGREE MOTION. THE ROADS WERE CLEAR AND NORMAL WEATHER CONDITIONS. AFTER MY VEHICLE STOPPED SPINNING MY VEHICLE HAD A MESSAGE STATING RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILURE AND THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE IMPACT OF HITTING THE GUARD RAIL WITH TREMENDOUS FORCE SHOULD'VE DEPLOYED MY AIRBAGS. MY BUMPER, WHOLE FRONT GRILL, AND HEADLIGHTS WERE SHATTERED ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY. MY WHOLE BACK LEFT SIDE IS DENTED IN AND MY WHEEL IS TILTED. I WOULD LOVE TO POST PICTURES IF POSSIBLE AND YOU WILL WONDER HOW COULD THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOY. I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM BMW. *TR

THIS COMPLAINT IS CONCERNING MY 2011 BMW 550I. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BMW SINCE ABOUT 7000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE SUN ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
I JUST HAD MY 4TH GOODYEAR RUN FLAT TIRE FAILURE. THE FIRST TWO WERE REPLACED BY GOODYEAR AS THEY SAID THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. LAST MONTH ONE OF THE REPLACED TIRES FAILED AND THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE REPLACEMENT. TODAY THE 4TH TIRE FAILED. THE TIRE DEVELOPS A BUBBLE IN THE SIDE WALL THAT IS 5 TO 6 INCHES LONG AND PROTRUDES ABOUT AN INCH AND A HALF. IT AFFECTS THE STEERING AND CAUSES HARSH VIBRATIONS. I JUST SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND SEE A POSSIBLE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT MAY BE STARTED BY BMW OWNERS AS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT GOODYEAR IS AWARE OF. THESE TIRES ARE NOT SAFE AND WILL CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. BMW IS ALSO AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT NEITHER COMPANY IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITH CAUTION AND THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000.
I HAVE HAD 15 TIRE DEFECTS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF !! TIRES IN 16,300 MILES OF DRIVING. THESE DEFECT RESULT IN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITONS AND POSSIBILITY OF ACCIDENTS. MY 2011 BMW 550I X GRAN TURISMO WAS PURCHASED IN 3/11. IN 10/11 I HAD THE TIRES CHECKED AND TOPPED OFF WITH NITROGEN. THE CAR HAD ABOUT 10,500 MILES. ON SATURDAY, 3/17/12 THE IPM SYSTEM SAID THE TIRES HAD LOW PRESSURE. ALL TIRES. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, DROP IT OFF AND, WITH A LOAN CAR, DID SOME RUNNING. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS DOWN TO THE CORDS ON THE UPPER INSIDE SIDEWALL. IN ADDITION, THE LEFT REAR WAS ALMOST DOWN TO THE CORDS ON THE SAME PLACE ON THE TIRE. THE FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT WERE NOT AS BAD BUT SHOWED WEAR AT THE SAME SPOTS ON THE TIRES AS THE REAR TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO REPLACE ALL TIRES. AT THAT TIME, I CHOSE TO JUST REPLACE THE REAR. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY A THE CAR BEING BADLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THEREFORE, I HAD MY 2011 BMW 550I X GT GIVEN AN ALIGNMENT. WHEN I LOOKED CLOSELY AT THE TIRE THAT WAS SHOWING THE CORDS I COULD SEE THAT THE TREAD WAS SEPARATING FROM THE BODY OF THE TIRE. IF THAT TIRE OR ANY OF THE OTHERS WOULD HAVE HAD THE CORD SEPARATE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. THE ALIGNMENT WAS OK, ONLY THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE OUT BY 0.01 DEGREE. I CALLED GOODYEAR AND I TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPEN. WHEN I TOLD THEM THE TREAD WAS TRYING TO SEPARATE THE AGENT PUT ME ON HOLD, CAME BACK, TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO A LOCAL TIRE COMPANY AND LET THEIR REPRESENTATIVE LOOK AT THE TIRES. THE TIRES WERE LOOKED AT, THE REP CALL GOODYEAR, CAME BACK AND TOLD ME GOODYEAR WOULD BE REPLACING THE FRONT TIRES. GOODYEAR WOULD ALSO SEND ME A REBATE FOR THE BACK TIRES, NOTHING ELSE. I WONDER IF THIS IS PART OF THE SAME PROBLEM THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH BMW 5 SERIES AND GOODYEAR RUNFLATS. LASTLY, I STILL HAVE THE TIRE WITH THE CORDS SHOWING AND THE TREAD SEPARATING. THE DEALERSHIP GAVE THEM BACK TO ME SINCE I PAID FULL PRICE FOR THE TIRES AT THE TIME OF REPLACEMENT. *TR
JUST PARKED THE VEHICLE, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. EXITED THE VEHICLE, OBSERVED SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, OPENED THE HOOD AND OBSERVED FLAMES FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE, MOSTLY ON THE TOP LEFT OF THE ENGINE NOW. CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES, AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE IS NOW IN THEIR LOT WAITING FOR THEIR INVESTIGATORS TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST COMMENT OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP, MAYBE AN ANIMAL BUILT A NEST IN THE ENGINE AREA. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAD 3000 MILES ON IT, PURCHASED IN JUNE OF 2011, AND IS GARAGE KEPT. *TR
LAST APRIL I PURCHASED A BMW 550IX. IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR WHILE ON THE FREEWAY I DEVELOPED A FLAT TIRE. I WAS ABLE TO RUN THE VEHICLE 40 MILES TO MY HOME WITH THE TIRE FLAT BUT HAD TO FLATBED THE VEHICLE TO MY CAR REPAIR STORE TO REPLACE THE TIRE. THAT TIRE HAD A BUBBLED SIDEWALL AT THE TIME OF THE FLAT ALTHOUGH I CANNOT SAY THAT THE BUBBLED SIDEWALL WAS WHERE THE TIRE FAILED. I HAD THE TIRE REPLACED FOR AROUND $500 AND THE MECHANIC MADE NO MENTION TO ME ABOUT THE BUBBLED SIDEWALL ISSUE WITH THIS TIRE ALTHOUGH, AS IT TURNS OUT, HE WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME OF REPAIR OF THE ABOVE FLAT, MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT TIRE ALSO HAD A BUBBLED SIDEWALL NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT OF THAT TIRE IN ORDER TO PASS MY STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION. SINCE THE REPAIR IN LATE MARCH 2012, I NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT TIRE HAS A BUBBLED SIDEWALL. I MIGHT ADD THAT NO POTHOLES HAVE BEEN HIT, DO ROAD DEBRIS HAS BEEN STRUCK. SO TWO AND POSSIBLY THREE OF FOUR OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS JUST NOW OVER 1 YEAR OLD, HAVE FAILED SIDEWALLS NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE IS AROUND 13,000 MILES. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. AN ENGINEER WAS SENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND PERFORMED SOFTWARE UPDATES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

I HAVE HAD FRONT RIGHT TIRE REPLACED TWICE, AND FRONT LEFT TIRE NOW AWAITING 3RD REPLACEMENT. BUBBLES OCCUR AFTER TIRE TAKES ANY SMALL IMPACT IN THE ROAD, SUCH AS DRIVING OVER A MANHOLE THAT IS NOT QUITE UP TO THE LEVEL OF THE PAVEMENT, OR HITTING A SMALL POTHOLE. ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, THERE ARE NO OTHER TIRE REPLACEMENTS APPROVED, AND THE CURRENT TIRE REPLACEMENT IS ON BACKORDER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD TO DRIVE ON TIRES THAT CAN POTENTIALLY BLOW OUT THE SIDEWALL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED. THE CAR HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AND THERE IS OFTEN A LAG IN ACCELERATING WHILE THE CAR IS STOPPED OR AT A LOW SPEED, CREATING A SAFETY CONCERN. NOT ONLY IS THERE A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IT IS NOT HOW A $51,000 LUXURY SEDAN SHOULD DRIVE -- IT IS RATHER ROUGH AND ANNOYING TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE CAR ALSO IDLES AT AN EXTREMELY LOW SPEED OR NO SPEED WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED AFTER SITTING FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME. IN THIS CASE, I HAVE TO APPLY A DECENT AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR EVEN TO BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE. *TR

AFTER PURCHASING A NEW 2011 BMW 528I (VEHICLE) I NOTICED AN ACCELERATION LAG STARTING OUT FROM A DEAD STOP. IT HAS BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO TURN ONTO A STREET FROM A STOP SIGN. IT CRAWLS INTO THE ROADWAY WHEN MODERATE PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. TOOK CAR TO DEALER. THEY STATED THEY RESET THE "LEARNING" PROGRAM THAT IS SUPPOSED TO ADAPT TO THE WAY ONE DRIVES. THIS DID NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER TELLING THE DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AGAIN, THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS "OPERATING AS DESIGNED" AND TOLD ME THAT THEY "ALL DO IT". SINCE THERE WERE NO TROUBLE CODES ON THE COMPUTER OF THE VEHICLE THEY SAID NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND I FEEL THIS WILL EVENTUALLY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AT SOME POINT WHEN IMMEDIATE AND LINEAR ACCELERATION IS NEEDED AT A CRITICAL MOMENT. *TR
THERE ARE TWO MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH MY 2011 528I AUGUST10 BUILD. THE FIRST IS THE PULLING TO THE RIGHT THAT THE CAR HAS HAD SINCE DAY ONE. I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS TO THE PROBLEM. AFTER SOME PERSISTENCE THEY DECIDED TO CHECK THE CAR OUT. THE STRUTS WERE ROTATED AND SOFTWARE UPDATED AND NOW "DRIVES STRAIGHT". THE CAR DRIVES STRAIGHT FOR MAYBE 25 FEET BEFORE THE CAR STARTS TUGGING HARD RIGHT EVERYTIME. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO AND IT IS ALL "WITHIN TOLERANCE". THIS IS A POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE SERIOUSLY ADDRESSED. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE INITIAL LAG IN ACCELERATION WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN AT A DEAD STOP OR CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, YOU HAVE TO FLOOR THE CAR TO FINALLY GET IT TO DECIDE WHICH GEAR TO START IN. THIS ACCELERATION LAG CAN BE A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND WHEN PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC A COUPLE OF SECONDS CAN MEAN ALOT. IF YOUR VEHICLE IS STANDING THREE FEET BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, YOU CAN EASILY CRASH AND REAR END INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. AND OF COURSE, YOU WILL BE SUED FOR NOT KEEPING YOUR DISTANCE. THIS CAN EASILY CAUSE SOME SERIOUS INJURIES. 3. VEHICLE WOBBLES AS IF THE TIRES WERE NOT BALANCED. THERE ARE CLEARLY UNKNOWN DEFECTS THAT CAN NOT BE LOCATED. TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL BMW DEALER, THEY KEEP ASCRIBING IT TO "NORMAL" CHARACTERISTICS AND THEY KEEP INFORMING ME THAT BMWS ARE BUILT THAT WAY, THEY ARE NOW SPORTIER. HOWEVER, TO ANY NEW OWNER, IT IS NOW DEADLIER. THE LOCAL BMW DEALER ALSO STATE UNLESS THEY VEHICLE DOESN'T INFORM THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. THE CAR SHUTDOWN COMPLETELY, BUT NOT BEFORE SHAKING VERY SHARPLY. THIS ALL OCCURRED IN ABOUT 15 SECONDS, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. BMW RESPONSE WAS "SAFE MODE". ON DECEMBER 9, 2010 THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED AGAIN FOR THE SAME ISSUES, THEY REPLACED A FUEL SENSOR. ON DECEMBER 30, 2010, THE CAR WAS BEING SERVICED AGAIN, THEY REPLACED THE HIGH AND LOW FUEL PUMPS. AFTER BEING DRIVEN HOME BY THE SERVICE MANGER OF BMW JUST TO INSURE THAT THE CAR WAS FIXED, IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN ON HIM ON DECEMBER 31, 2010. THEY REPLACED THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AGAIN, THE SECOND TIME IN TWO DAYS. THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME ON JANUARY 13, 2011. ON MARCH 17, 2010 THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AGAIN FOR LONG CRANK TIME, AND FOR NOT START SOMETIMES AT ALL. I AM ALSO A PREVIOUS OWNER OF RECALLED 335, WHICH I TRADED FOR THIS VEHICLE. OUT OF THE FIVE TIMES THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICE, TWO OF THOSE TIMES IT BROKE DOWN WHILE IN TRAFFIC COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, ONCE WHILE ON A FREEWAY. THIS VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE A NEW BMW 550I WITH SPORT PACKAGE AND 19" WHEELS. THIS CAR IS TRYING TO KILL ME. THE CAR STEERS WHEREVER IT WANTS TO. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER SINCE DAY ONE AND THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY PROBLEM. THEY HAVE CHANGED THE SOFTWARE AND THE STEERING COLUMN TO APPEASE ME, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THIS CAR WILL PULL YOU TOWARD THE GUARD RAIL AND ONLY A FRANTIC, PANIC, SAVE MY LIFE MOVE CAN KEEP THE CAR FROM CRASHING. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE WHEN I DRIVE THIS CAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IF HE WAS UNSATISFIED WITH THE VEHICLE THEN HE SHOULD TURN IT BACK IN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50.

THE TECHNICIAN TEST DROVE A SIMILAR MODEL YEAR VEHICLE WHICH EXHIBITED THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR A MONTH AND REMAINED THERE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,100.
VEHICLE RAN OFF OF RIGHT EDGE OF ROAD DUE TO STEERING PULLING TO THE RIGHT. RIGHT WHEELS/TIRES SUFFERED $2400 DAMAGE. TIRES/WHEELS REPLACE, ALIGNMENT DONE AND CAR STILL PULLS TO THE RIGHT. ON 9/5/10 (ODOMETER READING LESS THAN 2000 MILES), I WAS DRIVING ON LOCAL STREETS AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THE CAR REPORTED AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION ERROR AND THE CAR SHUTDOWN. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE AND STEERING LOCKED UP. THE CAR WAS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THEN TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. INITIAL ANALYSIS FROM THE BMW DEALERSHIP WAS THAT THE ERROR RECORDED (FAULT STORED FOR VALVETRONIC SYSTEM. DEVIATION TOO GREAT. FREQUENCY 1 LOGISTICS 38.) DID NOT POINT TO A SPECIFIC COMPONENT FAILURE. THE ERROR DID INDICATE THAT A CERTAIN SOFTWARE LEVEL SHOULD BE LOADED IN THE CAR, BUT THE BMW DEALERSHIP SAID I ALREADY HAD THE CORRECT SOFTWARE LEVEL LOADED. THEY RELOADED THE SOFTWARE LEVEL ANYWAY. THE BMW DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS OF TESTING AND DRIVING, BUT COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER 3 DAYS, THE BMW DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY NOTICED THAT I ACTUALLY DID NOT ORIGINALLY HAVE THE LATEST SOFTWARE PATCH LEVEL INSTALLED IN MY CAR. SO, THE ONLY FIX PROVIDED BY BMW FOR MY ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND SHUTDOWN WAS LOADING A NEW SOFTWARE PATCH LEVEL (PROGRAM I LEVEL NEW F010-10-06-512), THE PREVIOUS SOFTWARE LEVEL LOADED IN MY CAR AT THE PLANT WAS PROGRAM I LEVEL PLANT F010-10-06-511. IT SHOULD BE NOTED, WHILE THE CAR WAS AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP, THEY DID INSTALL THE FIX FOR THE FUEL TANK SENSOR RECALL (BULLETIN 121410). BUT, THE FUEL TANK SENSOR PROBLEM WAS NOT RELATED TO THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED, BECAUSE I HAD AN ACTUAL HALF TANK OF FUEL IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF MY ENGINE FAILURE. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2011 BMW 535I ON 06/23/10. THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 1 MILE ON THE ODOMETER. AS I PULLED OFF THE DEALER?S LOT, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR HAD A HARD PULL TO THE RIGHT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOOK IT IN THE NEXT DAY TO FIX IT. THEIR EQUIPMENT SHOWED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WITHIN ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS, BUT WENT AHEAD AND DID AN ALIGNMENT ANYWAY (ACTUALLY 4 OF THEM) IN AN EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEY ATTEMPTED ANOTHER SOLUTIONS (TIRE SWAPS, ETC.), BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA AND SPOKE WITH TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVES THERE WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING THAT WAS NEW TO THIS MODEL BUT THAT THEY HAD "NO FIX AT THIS TIME". I MET WITH A REGIONAL BMW TECH REP AT MY DEALERSHIP ALMOST A MONTH LATER. HE TOLD ME BMW WAS WORKING FEVERISHLY TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED - THAT THEY CONSIDERED IT A SAFETY ISSUE AND A NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. AT THE TIME, IT WAS BELIEVED THAT A SOFTWARE FIX WOULD BE READY IN 10-14 DAYS. IT'S ALMOST BEEN A MONTH NOW. I CAN TELL YOU, IT IS SCARY TO DRIVE THIS CAR. JUST FROM DOING SOME READING AND EXCHANGING INFORMATION IN BMW OWNER FORUMS, THERE ARE A MULTITUDE OF THESE CARS OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER WAS ABLE TO FIND A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS CONSTANT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 700.
EVER SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE, I NOTICED IT PULLS TO THE RIGHT. IT CONSTANTLY PULLS TO THE RIGHT AND THE DEALER HAS NO FIX YET. *TR

I WAS ALSO CARRYING A 5 GALLON SQUARE CONTAINER OF WATER THAT WAS CAPPED AND SEALED IN THE TRUNK. DURING THE ABRUPT STOP OF THE CAR, ABOUT 1/2 A GALLON OF WATER SPILLED INTO THE TRUNK. AFTER BEING TOWED TO SHELLY BMW AND TALKING TO THEM THE NEXT DAY, THEY SAID IT WAS MY FAULT AND THAT THE WATER SHORTED OUT THE COMPONENTS IN THE TRUNK. #1. THE WATER SPILLED INTO THE TRUNK AFTER THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPED. #2. I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE CARS BEHIND ME WHEN THE CAR WENT FROM 30MPH TO 0MPH. THE CAR DID NOT STALL AND SLOWLY COME TO A STOP....IT BASICALLY LOCKED UP AND STOPPED....CAUSING ME TO HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. SHELLY BMW IS NOW TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO PAY $2600 TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE MODULES THAT ARE DAMAGED. #3. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED ON JULY 26, 2010. #4. IRVINE POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS DISPATCHED TO THE SITE TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS NOT HIT FROM OTHER CARS AS I SAT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION FOR 1.5 HOURS WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK.
