Summary

My car has approximately 118,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. It was dealer serviced within a week of this event. The dealer did not identify any driveline problems or conditions with the vehicle. While my wife was driving on the freeway, the rear u-joint on the front drive shaft failed, causing the drive shaft to flail from the front differential and beat a hole in the transmission. There was virtually no warning that this failure was imminent except for a slight vibration for approximately 15 minutes prior to the failure. In examining the driveshaft, there is no slip joint to allow it to change length when the front suspension travels. Talking to the local BMW dealer, I learned that another customer had the same thing happen with a 2012 750; the failure occurred while their service technician was driving the vehicle. Apparently the front u-joint failed on that vehicle resulting in catastrophic damage to the engine, resulting in total economic loss of the vehicle. I am finding other similar events online in researching this issue, so it seems to be a known common issue. While the drive shave did not break through the floor pan, that was certainly a possibility, and my wife was forced to suddenly stop the car in traffic.

Summary

THE 2011 BMW 750LI XDRIVE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND THE POWER TRAIN MALFUNCTION INDICATOR CAME ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR WHEN DRIVING AROUND 80MPH, I HAD TO SLOW DOWN TO 60MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70MPH. IF I WENT FASTER THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD FLASH UNTIL I SLOWED DOWN. THE CAR DRINKS OIL LIKE CRAZY AND THE FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IS NOT CHEAP. W#HEN I PULLED OVER I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AFTER 10 MINUTES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. THE CAR WAS SHUDDERING WHEN I PULLED BACK ONTO THE INTERSTATE SLOWLY. THE CAR'S TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AND STABILIZATION LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I ACCELERATED THERE WAS NO POWER SO I HAD TO PULL OFF ON SIDE OF THE ROAD AGAIN. I FINALLY GO ON THE ROAD AND DROVE 60 MPH UNTIL I REACHED HOME. THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED ALL NIGHT AND IN THE MORNING THE SAME THING. MAKING AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE TO THE BMW OF STERLING, VA.

Summary

BMW 750 I XDRIVE 2011 --EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AND OR BURNING. THE DESIGN OF THE VALVE STEM SEALS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE SAFETY CONCERNS ARE THE FOLLOWING: 1) FIRE HAZARD. 2) PROPERTY DAMAGE AND PERSONAL INJURY 3) POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT WITH EXCESSIVE SMOKE 4) ADDITIONAL COST BURDEN FOR CONSUMERS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND AT THE POINT OF ACCELERATION, THE IS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF SMOKE THAT IS COMING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. THE OIL MEASURE TURN TO LOW AFTER JUST 2 WEEKS OF ADDING OIL TO THE ENGINE. FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS, BMW SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND BE FORCED TO REPAIR THE ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAWS IN THEIR ENGINE THAT BURN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CARRY THE COST BURDEN OF REPAIRING THIS DESIGN FLAWS. AS AN OWNER, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN BMW

ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO THE CAR STARTED SPUTTERING WHEN YOU ACCELERATE. I FOUND ONLINE THAT YOU CAN TAKE YOUR BMW 750LI XDRIVE IN FOR A CUSTOMER CARE PACKAGE ( THEY DID NOT CALL IT A RECALL BUT A CUSTOMER CARE PACKAGE.) I THOUGHT THIS WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEMS BECAUSE THEY REPLACE SOME SENSORS AND VACUUM HOSE BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. BMW DID A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID (REMOVE AND REPLACE ALL INJECTORS (X8), IGNITION COILS (X8),AND SPARK PLUGS (X8) (DURING THE INSPECTION FOUND THE VEHICLE MISFIRING) FINAL COST WILL RUN $6777.00 MY WARRANTY COMPANY WILL REFUSE TO PAY BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO KNOW WHAT WOULD YOU REPLACE ALL 8 INJECTORS AND ALL OF THE OTHER PARTS BECAUSE ALL 8 INJECTORS CANT BE BAD. THE WARRANTY COMPANY THINK BMW KNOW THEY HAVE A FAULTED INJECTION SYSTEMS AND TRYING TO UPGRADE AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT THE CUSTOMER EXPENSE. THE CAR BURN MAJOR OIL, BMW CLAIM THIS IS NORMAL.

Summary

SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2012, AFTER WARRANTY THE CAR HAS CONSTANT BREAKDOWNS, I HAVE SPENT >3500 DOLLARS IN LAST YEAR, AGAIN GOT A MESSAGE "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION" ABOUT A WEEK AGO, TOOK TO DEALER ROADSHOW BMW IN MEMPHIS, THEY SAID HIGH FUEL PUMP AND PLUGS NEED TO BE REPLACED IN ABOUT $1000, I AGREED AND LEFT CAR, TWO DAYS LATER THEY CALLED THAT THERE IS ANOTHER 'PLATE LEAKING OIL' AND NEEDS ANOTHER $1000 REPAIR. THIS WAS NOT THERE WHEN I LEFT THE CARE. I CALLED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE FIRST TIME, ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, WITH OUT HELP, AND AGAIN YESTERDAY. MY CAR IS IN SHOP AT DEALER.I CAME TO KNOW THAT THIS FUEL PUMP PROBLEM IS VERY COMMONLY REPORTED IN BMW BUT SURPRISINGLY COMPANY HAS NOT RECALLED IT OR ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD RESULT IN FATAL ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES. BMW SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS AND RECALLS AND FIXING THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE FATAL INJURIES OCCUR. *TR
