Under normal driving conditions on city roads the universal joint literally shattered. There is no aftermarket upgrades and no unlicensed work done the vehicle. I had just got it back from the dealership and they checked over it and it checked out good. This is outlandish I don’t understand why my vehicle is not within the recall.
BMW USA IS HIDDEN RECALL INFORMATION AND REPAIR HISTORY AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT CAUSE I DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY CHANGE OR DO OF MY CARE I NEED THIS INFORMATION PLEASE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 62 MPH, THE PASSIVE TANK LEVEL SENSOR FAILED. THE CONTACT THAT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE THEN WENT INTO LIMP MODE NOT ALLOWING HIM TO EXCEED 50 MPH WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO VALLEY BMW (4725 MCHENRY AVE, MODESTO, CA 95356) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE PASSIVE TANK LEVEL SENSOR NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WANTED A SECOND OPINION AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THE FIRST RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000. *DT
VEHICLE'S ENGINE, BEING A DIESEL, REQUIRES NOX TRAP SYSTEM AND SCR SYSTEMS IN ORDER TO REDUCE HARMFUL EMISSIONS PER EPA STANDARDS. IN ORDER FOR THE SCR SYSTEM TO WORK PROPERLY, THE ENGINE MUST INJECT DEF (DIESEL-EXHAUST FLUID) INTO THE SCR SYSTEM. IN THE BMW X5 35D, THE DEF SYSTEM IS COMPRISED OF TWO TANKS: THE ACTIVE TANK AND THE PASSIVE TANK. A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS SYSTEM IS THE PRIMARY SENSOR OF THE PASSIVE TANK FAILING. THE SENSOR ITSELF FAILS, BUT THE ENTIRE TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED AS A RESULT OF THE SENSOR'S ISSUES, RESULTING IN SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS BEING SPENT DUE TO THE SENSOR ITSELF NOT BEING ABLE TO BE REPLACED IN THE ORIGINAL TANK. RECALL IS RECOMMENDED FOR BMW TO REPLACE THESE SENSORS AS THE FAILURE OF THESE SENSORS RESULTS IN THE SCR CATALYST SYSTEM FAILING TO OPERATE, WHICH IN TURN SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASES ENGINE PERFORMANCE, INCREASES EXHAUST EMISSIONS, AND RESULTS IN THE ENGINE NOT KNOWING THE CAPACITY ON WHICH TO OPERATE. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REDUCED SPEED ON I95 INTERSTATE 95SOUTH IN CHICAGO. I HAVE SPEND OVER $18,000 ON ENGINE ISSUE AND HIGH CONSUMPTION OF OIL IS ALSO A MAJOR ISSUE. THERE IS A SEVERE ENGINE ISSUE THAT MAY LEAD TO AN AUTO ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING. ONCE THE ENGINE REDUCE POWER IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL THE TRUCK OVER TO SAFETY. THE WHOLE X5 5.0I NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON THE STREETS DURING A VERY HARD RAINING DAY. AFTER THAT EVEN I WENT TO MOVE MY CAR 2 DAY LATER . THE CAR WAS CRANKING BUT NEVER WENT ON . I TROUBLESHOOT THE CAR AND I REALIZED THAT THE CABIN FILTER WERE FULL OF WATER. BELOW THE CABIN FILTER MY 2011 BMW X5 HAS A INTEGRATED SUPPLY MODULE THAT SUPPLY ELECTRICITY TO THE SPARK PLUG FOR MY SURPRISE THAT MODULES BURN BECAUSE OF THE WATER .
TRANSFER CASE: SLIPPING AND HESITATION IN MOTION/DRIVING AND ACCELERATION. ALSO POPPING AND SLIPPING IN FRONT END NEAR FRONT WHEELS... LOOKED UP ONLINE TROUBLESHOOTING AND FOUND PROBLEMS WITH 2011 MODEL DESIGN
THE FOLLOWING TOOK PLACE IN JUNE 2020. I STILL OWN THE VEHICLE. I'VE GARAGE KEPT MY SUV, HOWEVER RECENTLY I MOVED TO CITY FOR WORK AND BEEN PARKING MY X5 OUTSIDE. IT HAD BEEN RAINING PRETTY HARD IN THE LAST FEW DAYS AND I WAS DRIVING W/ MY 4-YEAR-OLD IN BACK WHEN SUDDENLY THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS AND VARIOUS MESSAGES ON THE ENTERTAINMENT SCREEN STARTED FLASHING. THE WARNINGS TOOK ME OFF GUARD AND SOME OF THE MESSAGES THAT MY ENGINE MAY STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC MADE ME PANIC, ESPECIALLY WITH MY KID IN THE BACK. I PULLED OVER AND STARTED TAKING PICTURES MESSAGES. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THE WATER FROM THE SUNROOF LEAKS INTO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUNK WHERE THE ELECTRONICS AND AUDIO EQUIPMENT ARE LOCATED. (NOW I KNOW IT LEAKED ON BOTH SIDE'AS LEITH BMW TECHNICIAN FOUND WATER ON THE RIGHT SIDE TOO WITH ELECTRIC WIRES SUBMERGED). I FOUND ABOUT HALF A GALLON OF WATER ACCUMULATED. I TOOK WATER OUT USING A WATER BOTTLE I CUT IN THE MIDDLE AND TRIED TO DRY OFF AFFECTED ELECTRONICS. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE CHIMES ARE GONE AND SO IS THE SOUND. THE RADIO STATIONS AND NAVIGATION WORKS, BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SOUND COMING OUT. ALSO, THE TRUNK LIFT GATE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY OPEN ANYMORE MAKING IT VERY HARD TO OPERATE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WON'T GO AWAY. I CONTACTED BMW AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO BMW AUTHORIZED DEALER AND PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR IT. THAT COST AROUND $400. I KEPT RECEIPT. ALL THEIR COMMUNICATION WAS VERBAL AS TO NOT LEAVE EMAIL TRAIL. THE ONLY SOLID REJECTION LETTER I RECEIVED IS WHEN THEY REPLIED TO MY BBB COMPLAINT. SO FAR I HAVE CONTACTED BMW DIRECTLY WHO REJECTED MY CLAIMS, BBB OF NEW JERSEY (WHERE BMW IS LOCATED) WHO CONTACTED BMW DIRECTLY AND BMW SENT A REJECTION LETTER, CONSUMER REPORTS, CPSP.GOV WHO DIRECTED ME TO NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 190,000.
THE CAR IS PUTTING OUT WHITE SMOKE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH OIL IS ENTERING THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND BURNING OUT OF THE EXHAUST. THE OIL IS EITHER BURNING OR LEAKING INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN FUEL CONSUMPTION AND THE ACCELERATION IS AFFECTED. AS I WAS DRIVING THERE WAS A WARNING THAT THE ENGINE HAS GOTTEN TOO HOT TO DRIVE AND TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY AND I HAD IT TOWED TO A GARAGE. THERE WERE NO TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHTS OR COOLANT WARNING LIGHTS AND COOLANT LEVEL WAS FINE. BMW DOES NOT HAVE A TEMPERATURE GAUGE TO KNOW IF YOUR CAR IS GETTING HOT. STUPID DESIGN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMUNATED. THE VEHICLE WOULD ROUGHLY TURN OFF AND HAD A SOUND OF THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED. THE DEALER CHECKERED FLAG BMW 5225 VIRGINIA BEACH BLVD, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA 23462 (866) 414-7820 STATED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE ISSUE.THE EGR COOLER THAT COOLS THE EXHAUST FUMES WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE ISSUE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,719.
ONE WEEK AFTER I PURCHASEED BMW X5, THE AIRBAG LIGHT SWITCHED ON MY DASHBOARD WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND IGOT A MASSAGE SAYING"FAULT IN PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER OR BELT FORCE LIMITER. CONTINUE TO WEAR SEAT BELT. PLEASE CONTACT THE NEAREST BMW CENTER."AS MY CAR HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE RECALL, A BMW DEALER WILL FIX THE AIRBAG PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE. MY BMW DOESN'T HAVE TO HAVE AN EXISTING WARRANTY TO BE COVERED BY A RECALL. TODAY 1/27/2020 I WENT TO THE BMW DEALER IN EDISON FOR THE RECALL, AFTER 6 HOURS I RECEIVED THE CAR AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT STILL ON ???? I ASKED THE EMPLOYEE WHY THE AIRBAG STILL ON? HE ANSWERED ME " WE CHANGED THE PARTS BUT TO TURNE THIS LIGHT OFF YOU WILL PAY FOR IT " I ASKED HOW MUCH? HE SAID AROUND $400??? I DIDN'T AGREE AND LEFT THE DEALER WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON. THE CONCLUSION, THEY DON'T WANNA DO IT FOR FREE!!!!, I'M DRIVING MY CAR WITHOUT PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG????

BURNING SMELL COMING FROM FAULTY/LEAKY EGR COOLER. EGR COOLER IS LEAKING INTERNALLY AND MIXING WITH SOOT AND BEING EXPELLED ONTO FRONT TIMING COVER. NOTICED SMELL AFTER LAST SERVICE 11/29/19. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP TO INVESTIGATE 1/13/2020. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE (RECALLED) WITH BMW DIESELS MANUFACTURED 2010 -2017 IN THE USA AND ALSO EUROPE AND KOREA. THE MANUFACTURER DATES NEED TO BE EXTEND AS THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLES OUTSIDE THE CURRENT RECALL DATES.
VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND HESITATES WHEN MAKING A HARD LEFT OF RIGHT TURN FROM A FULL STOP. (IE. TURNING RIGHT ON RED OR PULLING OUT OF A PLACE OF BUSINESS ONTO AN ACTIVE HIGHWAY.) I READ ABOUT 30 OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE - ALL POINTING A FAULTY "TRANSFER CASE". MY VEHICLE 2011 BWM X5 35I HAS 76,000 MILES. I DO SEE A POWER TRAIN RECALL FOR THE 2011 X5'S BUT MINE (FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON IS NOT INCLUDED AND IT IS A 2011 (RECALL 17V138000) MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE AND WILL COST $3,000 TO REPAIR.
I AM HAVING AN EXHAUST LEAK INTO MY CABIN. I ALREADY REPLACED THE EGR COOLER AND IT WENT AWAY, BUT NOW THE SMELL IS BACK.
THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND SUDDENLY INCREASE IT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT ALSO JERKS STEERING FEELS LOOSE LEAKING OIL FROM THE ENGINE. COMPUTER ON THE DASH READS TO ADD A QUART THIS IS HAPPENING EVERY OTHER DAY SINCE I GOT IT BACK FROM THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE IS BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP AND ADVISORS TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE OIL ALL LIES. THEY DISMANTLED MY ENTIRE ENGINE THE VEHICLE NEVER DROVE THE SAME AGAIN PLUS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLICKERING. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON ME WHILE I WAS IN THE HIGHWAY DRIVING SLOWING I PULLED OUT OF THE HIGHWAY INTO AND EXIT AND FROM THERE I HAD IT TOW TO BMW AFTER THEY SO CALLED FIXED IT AGAIN
DROVE MY VEHICLE IN TO THE BMW DEALER FOR COOLANT LEAK/WATER PUMP SERVICE AND OIL CHANGE. THE NEXT DAY THEY INFORM ME THE CAR STALLED DURING A STANDARD TEST DRIVE AFTER THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. THE WERE UNABLE TO SPECIFY WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL AND DID NOT RELEASE DIAGNOSTICS TO ME BUT TOLD ME THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. NY STATE DEPT OF VEHICLE FORWARDED A REPORT STATING VANOS FAULTS. THERE ARE CURRENTLY BMW RECALLS FOR ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, ELECTRIC AUXILIARY WATER PUMP FAILURE, AND AN UNSPECIFIED RECALL FOR VANOS BOLTS UNIT THAT LOOSEN OR BREAK OVER TIME CAUSING THE ENGINE TO HAVE REDUCED POWER OR STALL. MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT UNDER THESE RECALLS BUT SHOULD BE.
THE PASSENGER SEAT WEIGHT OCCUPANCY SENSOR INTERMITTENTLY WORKS. I AM CONCERNED IF IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY. ALSO, THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT CHIMES EVEN THOUGH THE SEAT IS NOT OCCUPIED.
I GOT AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT ON MY 2011 BMW X5. I BROUGHT IT TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE ISSUE IS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THERE IS A RECALL FOR OTHER BMWS ALTHOUGH MINE IS NOT ON THE LIST. THE MECHANIC INDICATED THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR MY BMW AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL.
I HAVE RECEIVED AN ENGINE CODE 4BCC " PASSIVE TANK FILL SENSOR" FOR MY 2011 BMW X5D. THIS IS IN THE THE EMISSION SYSTEM DEF TANK. THIS APPEARS FROM MY RESEARCH THAT IT IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM.
UPON STARTING MY CAR AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE, I HEARD A BRIEF ELECTRICAL BUZZING NOISE THAT THEN STOPPED. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE RADIATOR FAN, BUT THE FAN WASN'T MOVING. I DROVE MY CAR APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES HOME AND PARKED IT. ABOUT 2.5 HOURS LATER, FROM INSIDE MY HOME, I HEARD THE SOUND OF WHAT SEEMED TO BE A SMALL EXPLOSION. I LOOKED OUTSIDE AND MY CAR'S ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. IT HAD PARKED, UNUSED WITH THE MOTOR OFF FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS ON A COOL DAY WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 40S WITH NO WARNING INDICATORS LIGHTS OR MESSAGES. I LATER LEARNED BMW HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR ELECTRICAL FIRES, HOWEVER, I NEVER RECEIVEDA RECALL NOTICE. PRESS REPORTS NOTE THAT MORE THAN 90 SUCH FIRES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO YOUR AGENCY, AND I CAN STILL FIND NO DOCUMENTATION ON YOUR WEBSITE OF THIS PROBLEM.
I HAVE AN 2011 X5 DIESEL. I GOT ENGINE LIGHT ON BECAUSE OF PASSIVE TANK PROBLEM. I LOVE THE CAR BUT THIS CAR HAS SO MANY SES LIGHTS AFTER I GOT IT. I FIXED ACTIVE TANK OUT OF MY OWN POCKET BEFORE THEY HAD EXTEND WARRANTY FOR ACTIVE TANK. ITS LIGHTS ON AGAIN AND THIS TIME UNDER COVERED. BUT AFTER COUPLE OF MONTH THE PASSIVE TANK GOT PROBLEM. I CALLED BMW BUT THEY SAID IT'S NOT COVERED. IT'S $3000 AGAIN. I TALKED TO DEALER, DEALER SAID IT WILL NOT EFFECT MY DRIVE BECAUSE IT'S A BACK UP TANK (ONLY BE USED IF ACTIVE TANK BROKE) BUT IT WON'T PASS EMISSION TEST. I AM REALLY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS SES LIGHT ON AND I DID LOTS OF RESEARCH ABOUT PASSIVE TANK. LOTS OF PEOPLE HAD SAME PROBLEM AND SOME GOT COVERED BY BMW. I TRIED TO COMMUNICATE WITH BMW ABOUT THE SCR TANK. PASSIVE TANK IS THE SAME COMPONENT AS ACTIVE TANK AND IT'S BACK UP TANK. YOU ALREADY KNOW THESE TANKS HAVE PROBLEM WHY COVER ONLY ONE AND LET COSTUMER PAY THE OTHER ONE. AND WHY SOME COVERED SOME DON'T? THIS IS REALLY NOT FAIR AND I CAN'T PASS EMISSION TEST WITHOUT FIXING THIS ENGINE LIGHT ON. IT'S ALSO REALLY BOTHER'S ME (ENGINE LIGHT ON) WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR EVERY DAY WITH MY KIDS AND DON'T KNOW IT THERE IS ANY OTHER PROBLEM EXCEPT PASSIVE TANK. PLEASE HELP ME ON ANYWAY YOU CAN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL RUMBLING AND BANGING NOISE. THE EMERGENCY POWER DOWN PULL OVER MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. THERE WAS OIL EMERGING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF WYOMING VALLEY (1470 HIGHWAY 315, WILKES-BARRE, PA 18702, (570) 338-6955) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A TRANSMISSION EXPLOSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V138000 (POWER TRAIN). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOOK HARD WHENEVER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT ANY SPEED. THERE WAS ALSO A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO BMW GLOBAL IMPORTS (500 INTERSTATE N PKWY, ATLANTA, GA 30339, (800) 294-1853) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. VANOS BOLTS ON EXHAUST CAM SHEARED OFF WHILE DRIVING AT HWY SPEEDS RESULTING IN ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCED POWER TO A NO START CONDITION. THE RECALL FOR THIS EXACT BOLT ISSUE WAS DONE AT 86K MILES, AND NOW 70K MILES LATER THE ISSUE OCCURED ANYWAY. BMW WILL NOT COVER AS THE REPLACED PART ONLY HAD A 2 YEAR WARRANTY.
ME AND MY KIDS WERE DRIVING OUR 2011 BMW X5, WE WENT TO A FULL STOP ON THE FREEWAY, A SEMI WAS DRIVING TOO FAST BEHIND US, THE SEMI WAS ON ITS WAY TO CRUSHING ME AND MY THREE DAUGHTERS IN THE CAR. WE TRIED TO MOVE OUT OF ITS WAY AND CRASHED IN THE CAR INFRONT OF US AS THERE WAS NO PLACE TO GO. THE ONE SECOND DECISION WAS THE TOUGHEST DECISION I HAD TO TAKE IN MY LIFE, EITHER THE SEMI IS GOING TO KILL US ALL I I CAN CRASH IN THE CAR FRONT OF US TO AVOID DEATH, WE WERE RELYING ON THE AIRBAG TO SAVE OUR LIFE, THE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY, ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON JULY 17TH. THANKFULLY THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY OR WE WOULD'VE BEEN ALL DEAD FROM THE DEFECTIVE BMW AIRBAG, YESTERDAY (JULY 31ST) WE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE DMV THAT WE NEED TO CONTACT BMW TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. WHAT IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED THAT DAY? HOW MUCH IS A HUMAN LIFE WORTH? WE PURCHASED A BMW TO PROTECT US DURING AN ACCIDENT AND WE FEEL CHEATED. WE WOULD'VE ALL LOST OUR LIVES. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOWED AND SITTING IN OUR DEIVEWAY. IT'S INOPERABLE AND THE AIRBAG HASN'T DEPLOYED. WE ARE SCARED TO EVEN GO INSIDE THE CAR TO GRAB OUR THINGS BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. IMMEDIATELY. MY DAUGHTERS ARE SCARED TO RIDE INSIDE A CAR, AND I'M SCARED TO DRIVE AGAIN. THERE HAS BEEN 24 REPORTED DEATHS FROM TAKATA, WE COULD'VE BEEN NUMBER 29.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, "ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCE POWER" APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT DROVE INTO A PARKING LOT AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WHITE SMOKE EMERGED FROM THE TAIL PIPES. THE VEHICLE FINALLY RESTARTED AND WAS DRIVEN HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF TEMPLE (6006 S GENERAL DRIVE, TEMPLE, TX 76502), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES AFTER THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE, THE FIRE ALARM ACTIVATED. AFTER RETURNING TO THE GARAGE, THE CONTACT NOTICED FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER (BMW 6655 COLISEUM BLVD, ALEXANDRIA, LA 71303 (318) 445-6678) TO BE SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V017000 (AIR BAGS). AFTER THE RECALL REMEDY WAS PERFORMED, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE HOWEVER THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH A NOTE FROM THE DEALER INDICATING THAT THE ENGINE WAS AT A 50% CAPACITY AND THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE RETURNED AT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE SAME DEALER WHEN IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT AFTER CALLING ON A LATER TIME THE DEALER THEN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE HOWEVER THEN DECLINED TO COVER ANY REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
THE VEHICLES OIL WAS CHANGE AT THE BMW MECHANIC. SHORTLY AFTER DRIVING AWAY, THE ENGINE STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. RETURNED VEHICLE AND THEY STATED THAT THE VANOS WERE DAMAGE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS A PREVIOUS ISSUE FOR THE BMW VANOS SYSTEMS AND THERE DECISION WAS TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ANOTHER 10 YEARS. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED SUCH LETTER STATING THIS AND THE BMW FACILITY WANTS TO CHARGE ME.
AFTER RECEIVING AN OIL CHANGE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON CODE 88624 WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO LOOSE POWER. AFTER INSPECTION THE FAULT WAS FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT STUCK WHICH IS AN ERROR DUE TO THE TIMING/VANOS SYSTEM. NO VISIBLE DAMAGES WHERE FOUND TO THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOIDS THAT ARE ACCESSIBLE. PLEASE ADVISE IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER ISSUES WITH CONSUMERS FOR THESE PROBLEMS, THANK YOU!
AFTER HAVING THE OIL CHANGED AND DRIVING FOR SEVERAL MILES, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. IT HAD A CODE WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT STUCK, THIS WAS AN ERROR DUE TO THE TIMING/VANOS SYSTEM. THERE WAS NO VISUAL DAMAGE TO THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOIDS BUT WERE CLEANED YET STILL HAVING ISSUES. ARE OTHER CONSUMERS HAVING THIS TYPE OF ISSUE?
OIL WAS CHANGED AND SHORTLY AFTER THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THEN DISPLAYED AN ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK TO BMW AND STATED THE FAULT WAS FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT STUCK AND THIS ERROR WAS DUE TO THE TIMING/VANOS SYSTEM. THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOIDS HAD NO VISIBLE DAMAGE AND WHERE CLEANED. THEY STATED FURTHER RESEARCH NEEDED TO BE DONE WHICH WOULD BE OVER $1000+.
AFTER HAVING THAT OIL CHANGE THE CHECK ENGINE WENT ON THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED TURNING THE WHOLE CAR OFF DURING DRIVING OVER 45 MILES. BMW FOUND ERROR CODE WHICH SHOWED EXHAUST CAMSHAFT STUCK, THIS IS AN ERROR DUE TO TIMING/VANES. AFTER CLEANING THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID AND NO VISIBLE DAMAGE PRESENT THEY STATED FURTHER RESEARCH WOULD NEED TO BE CONDUCTED. COST WOULD BE OVER 1000.00. ARE OTHER CONSUMERS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE VANOS SYSTEM?
MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE 12/19/2017. MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR THE FUEL PUMP RECALL AND CHANGE OF SPARK PLUGS. A YEAR LATER IT WENT BACK INTO THE SHOP FOR REPLACING A FUEL INJECTOR ALONG WITH SPARK PLUGS. 2 MONTHS LATER ITS BACK IN THE BMW SHOP FOR FUEL PRESSURE PUMP & TURBO HOSE. MY CAR IS CONSTANTLY IN THE SHOP AND I AM PAYING FOR EVERYTHING.
TAKATA RECALL. WE HAVE A TERRIBLE TRACK RECORD WITH THE TWO LOCAL DEALERS, AS THEY DO NOT DO WORK THAT THEY SAY THEY DO. THEY ALSO MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET CARS INTO SERVICE AND BACK AGAIN. I DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN. THEY HAVE ZERO RESPECT FOR THE LAW, THE CAR SHOWS THE "AUDI AUTO ACCELERATE PROBLEM" WHEN COMING OFF THE FREEWAY AND I PARKING LOTS. THE CAR WAS DELIVERED IN A STATE WHERE IT COULD NOT BE DRIVEN ON THE STREET LEGALLY, AND THEY HAD THE GALL TO DEMAND THAT WE SIGN A WAIVER WHICH WE DID TO DO. THEY HAD TO FIX THE LEGAL ISSUES THE CAR HAD.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE ON N55 ENGINE. 10/10 MANUFACTURE DATE USED THE EXACT HPFP AS THE ONE THAT BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE N54 ENGINE. WHEN YOU PULL OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC THE ENGINE GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND NO ACCELERATION CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. ALSO IT CAN JUST DIE LEAVING YOU STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.
BURNING SMELL INSIDE CAR CABIN. IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER DURING ACCELERATION. ENGINE STOPS ABRUPTLY COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART. TODAY IS THE SECOND TIME, THE FIRST TIME HAPPENED TWO WEEKS AGO
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V336000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO SOLUTION FOR THE RECALL. THE DEALER (PARK AVENUE BMW, 530 HUYLER STREET SOUTH, HACKENSACK, NJ 07606, (877) 626-6518) CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS NO SOLUTION. THE CONTACT'S REQUEST FOR A LOANER VEHICLE WAS DENIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
VANOS BOLTS, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, ENGINE STALL, COOLANT FUEL PUMP
THE VEHICLE ENGINE WAS INTERNALLY KNOCKING WHICH ONE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO KEEP DRIVING IT AND BRING IT BACK AT MY APPOINTMENT A WEEK LATER AND ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AVIDSED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AS THEY WERE HAVING A GLOBAL ISSUE WITH THESE ENGINES AND THE ENGINE COULD SEIZE UP... IF I WERE ON THE HIGHWAY OR ROADWAY AND THE ENGINE SEIZED UP IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V336000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED BMW SEATTLE AT (206) 829-5004 (LOCATED AT 1002 AIRPORT WAY S, SEATTLE, WA 98134) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
'TAKATA RECALL' WHEN THE HEAT OR AC IS ON AIR FROM VENT START TO BURN MY EYES. WHENEVER I'M IN MY VEHICLE I LEAVE OUT FEELING SLEEPY. CABIN FILTER HAS BEEN CHANGED AS WELL AS OTHERS PROBLEM CONTINUES. ALSO THE LEATHER ON THE DASH BOARD IS PULLING AWAY FROM THE VENT. PLASTIC WOOD TRIM CRACKS OVER TIME LEAVING THE VEHICLE LOOKING CHEAPLY BUILT
I WAS TOLD I HAVE ISSUES WITH THE NOX SENSOR AND SCR CATALYST. I HAVE ALSO BEEN PREOVUSLY TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE DIESEL EMISSIONS SYSTEM WAS FAULTY AND IT WOULD COST ME $6000 TO REPAIR. BECAUSE I HAVE 155K MILES ON THE CAR NOTHING FALLS UNDER WARRANTY. BMW IS ALSO UNSURE THAT THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS REALLY THE PROBLEM SO IT WILL COST ME $1000 TO REPLACE THAT AND HOPE IT WORKS. THE ISSUE NOW IS MY CAR IS GIVING ME A MESSAGE "INCORRECT DIESEL FLUID" EVEN THOUGH THERE IS CORRECT FLUID IN (SINCE THE DEALER IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS EVER PUT ANY IN THERE) AND IS AT THE FULL LEVEL. THE SENSOR IS NOW SAYING I ONLY HAVE 60 MILES TO DRIVE IT BEFORE IT WON'T START AGAIN. WHAT I AM MOST DISTURBED ABOUT IS THAT THERE IS INFORMATION THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND A RECALL NUMBER THEY WILL NOT HONOR IT AND WILL NOT FIX MY CAR. HTTP://WWW.AUTONEWS.COM/ARTICLE/20120504/RETAIL05/120509927/BMW-WILL-RECALL-DIESEL-MODELS-TO-FIX-EMISSIONS-GLITCH I HAVE BEEN WITH BMW FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND MY FAMILY HAS PURCHASED QUITE A FEW. AS A RESULT OF THIS, I HAVE NOW HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR (A NISSAN) AND HAD TO TAKE AN UBER TO THE LOT TO PICK IT UP SINCE MY CAR MAY NOT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE LOT AND BACK.
THE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND CHIMES CONTINUOUSLY WHEN UNOCCUPIED. THE ONLY WAY TO DISARM THE CHIME IS TO BUCKLE THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WHICH ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS. SINCE THIS VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS SEVERAL AIRBAG RECALLS ON IT, THE DEFECTIVE OCCUPANCY SENSOR CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND OTHER OWNERS OF THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE VENTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO SMELLED A STRONG BURNING ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V336000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE CONTACT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. WHILE DRIVING, THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V248000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 17V683000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
FRONT WHEELS OF THE VEHICLE SHUDDER BADLY WHEN TURNING AT SLOW RATES OF SPEED. ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS THIS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED.
DTC P21A8: FAULT FOR LEVEL SENSORS IN PASSIVE SCR TANK (REPLACE PASSIVE TANK AND EVALUATOR). SIMILAR TO PREVIOUS RECALL FAULT FOR THE ACTIVE SCR TANK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO AN OFF RAMP AND A PARKING LOT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF DARIEN (140 LEDGE RD, DARIEN, CT 06820, (203) 656-1804) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40 MPH AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES SUDDENLY STOPPED OPERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT WATER DRAINED INTO THE REAR HATCH AREA AND DAMAGED SEVERAL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, INCLUDING THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE BATTERY AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WERE SUBMERGED IN WATER. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DRAINAGE TUBE HAD BECOME DAMAGED, CAUSING THE WATER TO DRAIN INTO THE HATCH AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECENTLY OCCURRED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DRAINAGE TUBE. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (BMW OF RAMSEY, 985 NJ-17, RAMSEY, NJ 07446) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
REPLACING THE LEAKING TURBO OIL DRAIN BLOCK AND FAULTY VALVE SEALS WHICH CAUSES OIL TO DRAIN AND THE VEHICLE TO SMOKE AND BURN SO YOU HAVE TO ADD AT LEAST 1/2 QUART OF OIL WITHIN 2 WEEKS TIME WHILE DRIVING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED, LOSS OF POWER, STOP DRIVING MESSAGE APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, DIAGNOSED ISSUE DUE TO WATER PUMP FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE DUE TO A FAILURE WITH THE AUXILIARY WATER PUMP. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING PAST 35 MPH. THE DEALER (GERMAIN BMW OF NAPLES, 11286 TAMIAMI TRAIL N, NAPLES, FL 34110, (239) 302-3837) INITIALLY DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE RADIATOR, RESERVOIR TANK, RESERVOIR CAP, AND THERMOSTAT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS ISSUED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED AND THAT THE AUXILIARY WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS NOT CORRECTLY DIAGNOSED WHEN THE FAILURE FIRST OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 BMW X5. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED FLAMES AND SMOKE INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE THE FOLLOWING MORNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW LOT AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (JMK BMW IN SPRINGFIELD, NEW JERSEY) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
AUXILIARY WATER PUMP FAILED WHICH CAUSED ENGINE OVERHEATING. WHEN I CALLED BMW US AND MY LOCAL BMW DEALER - BMW OF ALEXANDRIA, VA I WAS DENIED FOR REPAIRS, DESPITE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY PARTICULAR CAR AND MODEL. ACCORDING TO MY CAR REPAIR HISTORY THAT RECALL WAS NEVER PERFORMED.
BELT TENTIONER HAD TO REPLACE. IT'S RECALLED ON THE DIESAL BMW X5 2011 BUT NOT THE GAS ONE.
THIS VEHICLE HAS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE VANOS SYSTEM. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH FULL TRAFFIC, MY ENGINE FAILED AT 70 MPH CAUSING TO ME ALMOST GET KILLED IN TRAFFIC AS I FOUGHT MY WAY THE THE SHOULDER. THE CAR WOULD NOT START, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND IT SEEMS THAT THE VANOS BOLT BACKED OUT OF THE CAMSHAFT AND CAUSED CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. I WENT TO MY WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE DAMAGE DUE TO IT BEING THE BOLT THAT BACKED OUT. AS THEY DO NOT COVER BOLTS. NOW I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT I CANT DRIVE AND IS CURRENTLY SITTING AT BMW OF MT. LAUREL IN NEW JERSEY WITH AN 18K BILL. THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ALOT OF PEOPLE IN THESE VEHICLES. THAT VANOS UNIT IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AGAIN WITH THE CORRECT BOLTS REINFORCED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP BOLT ON THE PULLEY FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEIZE AND THE ALTERNATOR BELT NOT TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V550000 (STEERING, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD OVERHEATED. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HOT WATER HAD LEAKED FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER (UNITED BMW, 11458 ALPHARETTA HWY, ROSWELL GA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT WHILE LEAVING THE DEALER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND RATTLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT AND TRANSFER CASE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (BMW OF TULSA, 9702 S MEMORIAL DR, TULSA, OK 74133), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS WILLING TO PAY HALF FOR A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND CONFIRMED WITH THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD PAY HALF OF THE COST FOR A REPLACEMENT ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER OPENED A CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE SEALS WENT BAD. WHICH THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR N63 ENGINES. BMW HAS A BULLETIN FOR IT, BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT HONOR THAT BECAUSE IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM. AND BMW WON'T HONOR IT CAUSE THEY WON'T DO A RECALL ON IT EITHER. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT CONSUMES OIL AND YOU HAVE BLUE SMOKE GOING OUT YOUR TAILPIPE. I'VE BEEN GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY, BMW DEALER, AND BMW CORPORATION. THEY WANT ME TO PAY OVER $9000 TO FIX THIS, CAUSE YOU HAVE TO PULL THE MOTOR OUT. AND THIS GONNA GET WORSE IF YOU GONNA KEEP DRIVING IT
VALVE SEALS PROBLEMS IN 90 % OF X5 FROM 2010 TO 2013, I BOUGHT MINES FROM THE DEALER WITH THIS PROBLEM... THEY TOLD ME AT THE DEALER NOTHING WAS WRONG.... I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS. *TR
SINCE THE N63 ENGINE TECHNICAL UPDATE (AKA N63 CUSTOMER CARE PACKAGE) WAS PERFORMED ON OUR 2011 X5, WE NOTICED AN INCREASE IN ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION EVIDENCED BY THE ONBOARD SYSTEM ALERTING US TO LOW ENGINE OIL CONDITION REQUIRING ADDING ENGINE OIL. IN ADDITION TO THIS SYMPTOM THE ONBOARD SYSTEM IS ALERTING LOW COOLANT FLUID AND REQUIRING COOLANT FLUID TOP OFF. PRIOR TO THIS N63 TECHNICAL UPDATE PERFORMED ON OUR X5, THE VEHICLE DID NOT REQUIRE ENGINE OIL OR COOLANT FLUID TOP OFF AS IT DOES NOW AND WENT EVEN AS FAR AS BETWEEN MAINTENANCE CYCLE WITHOUT REQUIRING OIL OR COOLANT TOP OFF. WE HAVE COMMUNICATED THIS PECULIAR LEVEL OF CONSUMPTION ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE ONSET OF THE SYMPTOM AND WHILE DURING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE PERIOD AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS CONSUMPTION BY THE N63 ENGINE IS NORMAL AND IS TO BE EXPECTED AND TO TOP IT OFF WHEN LOW AND AS REQUIRED. AS SUCH IN ITS CURRENT STATE WE ARE NOT CONFIDENT WITH DRIVING OUR X5 ON LONG DISTANCE LIKE A ROAD TRIP FROM LA TO SF WHICH WE HAVE ENJOYED - THE N63 IS EXTREMELY NEEDY FOR FLUIDS BETWEEN RELATIVELY SHORT MILEAGE INTERVALS.
WIRES INSIDE THE COMFORT ACCESS DOOR HANDLES HAVE APPARENTLY SHORTED OUT AND ARE CAUSING THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE TO BE VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH (MEASURED AT 134 DEG F). PEMBROKE PINES BMW AND BMW NA WERE NOTIFIED IN NOVEMBER. THEY ADVISED THAT I WOULD HAVE PAY $700 TO HAVE IT REPLACED SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. LATER THEY OFFERED A 20% DISCOUNT. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE SHORT MAY EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE WIRES OR OTHER MATERIALS IN THE DOOR TO CATCH ON FIRE. I MEASURED AND PHOTOGRAPHED THE DOOR HANDLE AND ADJACENT AREA. THE DOOR WAS 84.8 DEGREES F WHILE THE DOOR HANDLE WAS 134 DEGREES F.
I NOTICE WHEN TURNING A VIBRATION OR SHUDDER COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, INCLUDING THE NHTSA SITE, I FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR X5S. THE APPARENT FIX FOR THIS IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE, A SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLAR REPAIR. I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY WIFE BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE HER DRIVE IT BECAUSE BETWEEN THE TRANSFER CASE AND THE DRIVESHAFT, BOTH KNOWN ISSUES, I AM CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 69,000 MILES ON IT, THERE IS NO WAY IT SHOULD HAVE THESE KIND OF PROBLEMS BARRING A VERY POOR DESIGN.
MY WIFE'S BMW WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE UPON RETURNING FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE A SERVICE RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED. THE CAR SELF COMBUSTED DESTROYING THE BMW X5 , MY BMW 328 XI, OUR GARAGE AND PORTIONS OF OUR CONDO ADJACENT TO THE GARAGE.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE RECEIVED TWO NOTICES CONCERNING THIS SITUATION OVER A YEAR PERIOD, WHEN I CONTACTED BMW OF MANHATTAN AFTER THE FIRST NOTICE THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME ONCE PARTS ARE RECEIVED. IT'S BEEN WELL OVER A YEAR NOW AND I HAVE RECEIVED YET ANOTHER NOTICE, STILL NO REPLACEMENT OF NEW AIRBAGS.
TAKATA RECALL: I CALLED THE WAYNE, NJ BMW DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES TO REPLACE THE AFFECTED TAKATA INFLATORS AIRBAGS. WAYNE BMW DEALERSHIP STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLACE TAKATA INFLATORS AIRBAGS.
TAKATA RECALL IT'S BEEN A COUPLE YEARS SINCE THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED AND EVERY TIME I CALL THE DEALERSHIP THEY TELL ME THERE ARE NO PARTS. NOW TAKATA HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY. THIS IS GETTING ABSURD. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS FIXED?
THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE FRONT AIRBAG AND I'VE HAD A REQUEST TO FIX IT FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. BMW KEEPS TELLING ME THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS IN. IT IS FRUSTRATING THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND BMW IS NOT PROVIDING THE PARTS TO FIX THIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 16V071000 (AIR BAGS) AND 17VV138000 (POWER TRAIN); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER (GLOBAL IMPORTS BMW IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE ABS AND FOUR WHEEL TRACTION WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION" DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND HAD TO BE MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH, AND NOTICED OIL ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED A U-SHAPED PIECE STICKING OUT OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE SHIELD. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS ON AN INCLINE AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DISENGAGE THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE AND HAD TO CUT THE CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF ARLINGTON IN ARLINGTON, TEXAS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION, FRONT DRIVE SHAFT, AND ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT AND TRANSMISSION WERE GOING TO BE REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL, BUT THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT GOING TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
WELL LAST YEAR AT THIS EXACT SAME TIME THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BROKE CAUSING A DOMINO EFFECT OF DAMAGES THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT SNAPPED AND SMASHED THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND DENTED THE EXHAUST PIPE. SERVICE ADVISER AT DEALER WAS NOT WANTING TO REPAIR THE DAMAGES UNDER RECALL PROGRAM ACTED LIKE THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE OR THE RECALL IN EFFECT. AFTER I PRESENTED ALL MY FINDINGS THEY CONTACTED BMW NA AND THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ,EXHAUST AND THE DRIVE SHAFT AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO ME. HOWEVER I DID END UP PAYING OVER $4K FOR OTHER OIL LEAKS ETC. NOW THE VEHICLE IS BACK AT THE DEALERS WITH POPPING NOISE VERY HARD JERKING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THEY NOW CLAIM THAT THE TRANSFER CASE IS BAD AND IT'LL COST $2700 (FOR THE PART ALONE) AND LABOR TO REPLACE THIS TO FIX THE ISSUE. I LOOKED UP ON LINE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND BMW IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. SURELY THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT AND THE TRANSMISSION ARE CONNECTED TO THE TRANSFER CASE. SO IF THE DRIVE SHAFT HAS CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT ONCE THEN THAT MALFUNCTION MUST HAVE DAMAGED THE TRANSFER CASE ALSO OR IF THE INSTALL WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY THIS COULD HAVE DAMAGED THE TRANSFER CASE. WHICH I BELIEVE BMW SHOULD ADDRESS UNDER THE RECALL FOR FRONT DRIVE SHAFT. WHY IS NO ONE TAKING ANY ACTION ON THIS MATTER. A FAULTY TRANSFER CASE IN THE X5 CAN CAUSE LOSS OF DRIVE AND THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IF THE OCCUPANTS ARE ON A FREEWAY OR IN AN INTERSECTION ETC WHERE THEY ARE STUCK. WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AND HOLD THE MANUFACTURERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR SUCH DEFECTIVE AND POOR QUALITY PRODUCTS.PREMIUM DOLLAR FOR THESE CARS DEMANDS PREMIUM SERVICE AND CUSTOMER CARE. CURRENTLY MY CAR SITS IN THE SHOP WITH A REPAIR ESTIMATE OF ALMOST $9K TO REPLACE TURBO HOSES AND TRANSFER CASE.

IT APPEARS THAT THE BMW X5 35I HAS THIS ISSUE WITH THE TRANSFER CASE ON A HUGE NUMBER OF THE VEHICLES. WHILE THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME VIN #'S I FEEL THAT IT IS IMPERATIVE TO EXTEND IT TO ALL OF THEM. MY X5 HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT HAS EXPIRED BECAUSE OF MILEAGE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. THERE MAY NOT BE ENOUGH NOTICE WHEN IT GOES OUT TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SAFELY. WHEN IT HAPPENS IT CAN CERTAINLY CAUSE INJURY AND POSSIBLY DEATH. DOES BMW OR THE NATIONAL SAFETY ADMINISTRATION REALLY WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE ? I THINK NOT ONLY MY VIN # NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED BUT ALL BMW 2011-2012 X5 SHOULD BE INCLUDED. BMW HAS BEEN MADE AWARE THAT THIS IS A DEFECT AND NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE I HAVE RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AND BMW IS DOING NOTHING TO FIX MY PROBLEM. I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND HAVE HEARD THAT SALT AIR MAKES THE PROBLEM WORSE, SO I WOULD EXPECT PEOPLE LIVING BY THE OCEAN WOULD GET TOP PRIORITY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING AND IDLING, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BELT TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TAKATA RECALL: IT WILL BE A YEAR HERE SHORTLY SINCE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED AND THIS AIRBAG IS NOT REPLACED. I KNOW THAT BMW CAME UP WITH ANOTHER AIRBAG FOR REPLACEMENT OF MY DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG AFTER I COMPLAINED. THERE MUST BE SOMEWAY TO FIX THIS SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD. .I DO NOT WANT ANYONE IN MY CAR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT TO DIE BECAUSE OF THIS. FYI THE RECALL WAS ISSUED IN MAY 2016 I WAS NOT SENT A NOTICE UNTIL JULY 2016, POOR NOTIFICATION. I AM SURE THIS LENGTH OF TIME QUALIFIES AS A FAILURE TO FIX IN REASONABLE LENGTH OF TIME.
TAKATA RECALL - DESPITE MULTIPLE REQUESTS AND PROMISES FOR OVER A YEAR, BMW HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG. BMW CONTINUES TO PUSH THE DELIVERY DATE OF THE PARTS OUT.
FROM A STOP: UPON DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, THERE IS A DELAY IN THE REACTION OF THE CAR TO MOVE FORWARD. AS IT MOVES, IT LUNGES FORWARD BECAUSE OF THE ADDED GAS SUDDENLY PROPELLING THE CAR. AS A RESULT, YOU CAN EITHER MOVE FORWARD EXTREMELY SLOW FROM THE START OR JUMP FORWARD PULLING YOU BACK INTO THE SEAT. ON THE HIGHWAY: OCCASIONALLY, SUDDEN INCREASED SPEED, AS NEEDED FOR PASSING, IS DENIED AND THE CAR ACTUALLY TRAVELS AT A CONTINUED STEADY SPEED. IF YOU'VE EVER MOVED INTO AN AVAILABLE LANE TO DISCOVER A SPEEDING VEHICLE CLOSING ON YOU RAPIDLY, YOU'LL GET ONE HELL OF A SCARE WHEN YOUR CAR FAILS TO MOVE FASTER TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. BEEN THERE AND TURNED WHITE AS A GHOST. I HEARD ON THE RADIO IN MIAMI THAT THE NEED FOR THIS RECALL WAS KNOWN TO BMW BUT REPEATED REQUESTS TO BMW TO ADDRESS THIS RECALL HAVE GONE UNANSWERED EXCEPT THAT THE DEALERS DON'T HAVE NOTICE YET FROM BMW CORPORATE. NOTE: I BROUGHT THIS PROBLEM TO THE ATTENTION OF BMW DEALERS AND CORPORATE IN 2011 AND PERIODICALLY SINCE WITH NO HELP. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THEY NEVER MENTIONED IT ON ANY REPAIR ORDERS AND ONLY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR ADJUSTS TO THE MANNER IN WHICH INDIVIDUAL DRIVERS OPERATE THE CAR SO AS MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR PRIMARILY, I AS A SECONDARY DRIVER WOULD NEED TO ALLOW TIME FOR THE CAR TO ADJUST TO MY WAY OF DRIVING. IN 2015 MY WIFE BEGAN DRIVING A MASERATI FULL TIME AND I WAS RELEGATED TO THE X5. THE FAULTY ACCELERATION HAS NEVER CHANGED AND MY WIFE, SINCE 2015, HAS NOTICED THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHERE BEFORE SHE BECAME USED TO THE WAY THE CAR REACTED.

NOISE AND VIBRATION COMING FROM DRIVE SHAFT WHEN TURNING AND DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD.
TAKATA RECALL.......NO REMEDY YET, I HAVE BEEN WAITING NOW CLOSE TO 2 YEARS. AFTER SPEAKING WITH 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN MY AREA, I'M TOLD THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN EITHER RECALL WILL BE FIXED BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO PARTS.....GAS SMELL IN VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING , FUEL PUMP RECALL, HOWEVER, NO TIMETABLE FOR FIXING.
2011 BMW X5 35I XDRIVE - MY DRIVE SHAFT BROKE (VIOLENT BANGING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR) WHILE I WAS GOING 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE FREEWAY CAUSING ME TO SWERVE TO THE LEFT LANE BACK OVER TO THE RIGHT LANE. SUPER LUCKY THAT I BARELY MISSED HITTING THE CARS NEXT TO ME! I HAD HARDLY ANY CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING WHILE I COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD / DITCH. I LOST ALMOST 7 QUARTS OF OIL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY ENGINE HAS A HOLE IN IT FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT. I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. THE MANUFACTURE WILL BE REPLACING MY ENGINE AND SOME HOSES THAT WERE DESTROYED. THE DEALER SAID THIS WASN'T A RECALL, JUST AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SINCE WE HAVE APPROX. 70,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE DEALER GAVE US A LOANER CAR TO USE UNTIL OUR CAR IS REPAIRED. MY CONCERN IS THAT OWNERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED IMMEDIATELY! HAD I KNOWN, I WOULD OF HAD MY CAR INSPECTED... NOW I'M OUT $325 DOLLARS FOR TOWING EXPENSES, A CAR THAT MIGHT NOT EVER BE QUITE THE SAME, LIVE 1HR 20 MINUTES FROM THE DEALER, AND THE MEMORY OF THE DRAMATIC EVENT.
WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I HEARD A LOUD FAN NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I DID A QUICK SYSTEMS CHECK TO SEE IF ALL SYSTEMS WERE OK- THEY WERE. ABOUT 1/10 OF A MILE LATER, MY CAR INDICATED THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING AND THAT I HAD REDUCED POWER. I COULDN'T DRIVE OVER 35 MILES PER HOUR. WITHIN THE NEXT 45 SECONDS, AS I'M GETTING ONTO AN INTERSTATE, MY ENGINE SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY AND I LOSE ALL POWER. I NEVER HAD ANY WARNING AND THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL ENGINE TEMPERATURE ON THIS CAR. AFTER HAVING MY VEHICLE TOWED AND DIAGNOSED BY A CERTIFIED DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE THERMOSTAT, WATER PUMP AND EXPANSION TANK ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED THAT ONE OF THESE ITEMS FAILED AND CAUSED THE OTHER TWO TO BREAK WITH EXTENDED USE. THIS COST ME $1990. THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS FROM HAPPENING. I'VE ALWAYS HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT THE RECOMMENDED INTERVALS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 7 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE BELT BOLT. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER SIX MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT A RECALL REPAIR WAS ALREADY PERFOMED AND COULD NOT BE REPEATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000.
JANUARY 13, 2017, I WAS DRIVING MY 2011 BMW X5, WITH APPROXIMATELY 77,000 MILES, ON A TWO-LANE ROAD AND I ACCELERATED TO PASS A TRUCK. WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH MY X5 UNEXPECTEDLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY REV WHEN I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS WAS WITHOUT ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR NOISE INDICATING CATASTROPHIC MECHANICAL FAILURE. THANKFULLY, I HAD ENOUGH SPEED TO COMPLETE MY PASS BEFORE THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC REACHED ME AND WE AVOIDED A POTENTIALLY DISASTROUS COLLISION. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD HOPING TO BE ABLE TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. MOVEMENT OF THE SHIFTER DID NOTHING AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AT IDLE SPEED. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE X5, NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WERE STILL WORKING AND THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF ANY WARNING INDICATORS. THE TOWNE BMW SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $20,000. THE VEHICLE HAD AN ESTIMATED TRADE-IN VALUE $14,000! THIS OUTCOME IS AFTER I PROPERLY MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE FOR 6 YEARS, HAVING ALL OIL CHANGES DONE WITHIN THE MANUFACTURES SUGGESTED SERVICE INTERVALS. AND SPENT OVER $6,000 WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. MOST RECENT OIL CHANGE WAS DONE AT ON NOVEMBER 15, 2016. I EVEN HAD THE OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKETS REPLACED AT A COST OF $572 BASED ON THE TECHNICIAN'S RECOMMENDATION. IT IS UNFATHOMABLE TO ME AND OTHER PRO MECHANICS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED SUCH A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. DEALER CALLED FEB. 9, 2017, ALMOST ONE MONTH AFTER MY TROUBLE BEGAN, TO EXPLAIN THAT THE #6 CAM SHAFT BEARING FAILED AND SEIZED ONTO THE CONNECTING ROD. I ASKED WHAT WOULD CAUSE SUCH A FAILURE AND THEY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO LACK OF OIL OR DIRT IN THE OIL. NEITHER COULD EXPLAIN HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN WITH ROUTINE OIL CHANGES AND MOST RECENT BEING ONLY TWO MONTHS PRIOR.
MY 2011 BMW X5 3.0 SAV WAS EXHIBITING ROUGH STARTS ON IGNITION AND IT STALLED AFTER A WHILE AND WOULDN'T START BACK UP AGAIN. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FIRST TIME AND THE VANOS SYSTEM WAS REPLACED( RECALL EXTENDED WARRANTY). THE NEXT TIME IT STALLED AND WOULDN'T START BACK UP WE WERE ADVISED IT WAS THE STARTER SO WE HAD THAT REPLACED( $1163.36) ALONG WITH THE BATTERY( $ 260) AND THEN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WOULDN'T GO DOWN AND THE DASH BOARD LIGHTING WENT OUT AND THE ALARM WOULDN'T ENGAGE, THE DEALER ADVISED US THAT IT WAS A FOOTWELL MODULE PROBLEM COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY UNTIL 125,000 MILES. ALL IN ALL THE CAR IS RIGGED WITH PROBLEMS. I HAVE DECIDED TO LOOK UP ALL THE NHTSA RECALLS AND HAVE THEM DONE BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE BREAKSDOWN. NHTSA HAS THE VEHICLE DOWN FOR BOTH FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS AND ALSO THE IN-TANK FUEL PUMP IN ADDITION TO ALL THE ONES I MENTIONED ABOVE.

I AM REQUESTING AN EMERGENCY RECALL OF MY AUTOMOBILE. WHEN CROSSING THE GANDY BRIDGE OVER TAMPA BAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, MY CAR EMITTED A VERY LOUD BANG AND A RAPID SERIES OF SHAKING AND EXTREMELY HARD KNOCKS. THE CAR LOST POWER, SMOKE BILLOWED OUT THE BACK AND I SAW A STREAM OF OIL IN THE MIRROR BEHIND ME. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OUT OF THE TRAFFIC LANE. THE PROBLEM, I HAVE FOUND, WAS THAT THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT FAILED DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE UNIVERSAL JOINT. WHEN IT FAILED, THE SPINNING PARTS CRACKED OPEN THE TRANSMISSION CASE, THE OIL PAN AND BROKE SEVERAL NEARBY PARTS. THE EVENT OCCURRED ON A LONG BRIDGE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY. THE FRONT END OF THE SPINNING DRIVE SHAFT BROKE LOOSE AND FELL DOWN, PARTS WERE EJECTED ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION WAS CRACKED OPEN AND ALL TRANSMISSION OIL DISCHARGED ONTO THE BRIDGE. HAD THIS OCCURRED, FOR EXAMPLE, WHILE PASSING ANOTHER CAR ON A TWO LANE ROAD, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS, PERHAPS FATAL ACCIDENT. THIS VEHICLE, FROM PRODUCTION DATES BEGINNING APRIL 5 2011, WAS OFFICIALLY RECALLED IN MAY 2016 FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN MARCH, 2011, A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE THE APPARENTLY ARBITRARY RECALL DATE OF APRIL 5. I NOW FIND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY SIMILAR FAILURES, WITH PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTIONS EXACTLY LIKE MINE. THE BMW RECALL NOTICE, WHICH I DID NOT RECEIVE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED, STATES THAT A VIBRATION WILL BECOME NOTICEABLE, AND, IF IT FAILS, POWER TO THE FRONT WHEELS WILL BE INTERRUPTED, BUT THAT THE REAR WHEELS WILL CONTINUE TO WORK. THAT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. THE TRANSFER CASE HAD TO BE REPLACED IN MAY 2016. UPDATED 03/07/17.*JB

TAKATA RECALL ITS BEEN ALMOST 2 YEARS SINCE I'VE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE TO REPLACE FAULTY AIRBAG COMPONENTS WHICH AFFECTS THE VEHICLE. EACH TIME I BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, THE DEALER SIMPLY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO RECALL THE AIRBAGS. I AM COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED ESPECIALLY KNOWING THIS COULD CAUSE BIG HARM IN AN EVENT OF A CRASH. I TRY TO NOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE AS MUCH AS I CAN UNTIL THE RECALL IS COMPLETED, HOWEVER LIVING WITH FAMILY MEMBERS IT IS SIMPLY IMPRACTICAL TO NOT USE THE CAR UNTIL THE RECALL HAS BEEN PERFORMED. IT IS ALREADY 2017, AND I RECEIVED THE NOTICE EARLY 2015. *TR

AFTER DRIVING FOR AN EXTENED PERIOD OF TIME, I PULLED OVER TO PLACE A NEW DESTINATION IN MY GPS. I NOTICED AS I WAS POSITIONING MY VEHICLE PERPENDICULAR TO THE ROAD, I FELT A SHUTTERING IN MY TRACTION. IT FELT LIKE A LOCKED DIFFERENTIAL 4X4. I PLACED MY NEW ADDRESS AND PROCEEDED TO TURN RIGHT ONTO THE ROADWAY WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. I FELT A HUGE HESITATION IN MY ACCELERATION NEARLY CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO BE BROAD SIDED (T-BONED). AT THAT POINT, I HAD TO FLOOR THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED ME TO SHOOT ACROSS THE ROAD INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, THE VEHICLES WERE FAR ENOUGH TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. MY WHOLE FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO BMW TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THEY FOUND A FAULTY TRANSFER CASE AS THEY WERE REPLACING MY FRONT DRIVE SHAFT UNDER A RECALL.
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK CANNOT BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY WHILE DRIVER IS INSIDE THE PARKED CAR. THIS OCCURS FREQUENTLY, BUT NOT 100% OF THE TIME. THE BMW LOCKS UNLOCK MANUALLY BY PULLING ON THE DOOR HANDLE ONCE AND THEN PULLING A SECOND TIME TO OPEN THE DOOR. WHEN THIS DEFECT OCCURS, I CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK IS TO USE THE POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I CANNOT UNLOCK AND OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR IF THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAD THE SAME FAILURE 18 MONTHS AGO AND I REPLACED THE LOCK ACTUATOR PERSONALLY. I DID NOT LOG A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I JUDGED IT AS AN EXCEPTION CASE. HOWEVER, TWO FAILURES ON TWO DIFFERENT LOCK ACTUATORS IN THE SAME CAR LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE IS AN INTRINSIC MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
ON SUNDAY 08/16/2016, MY 2011 BMW X5 LOST STEERING POWER, AND I GOT A BUNCH OF ERRORS ON THE DASHBOARD INCLUDING ENGINE NOT CHARGING. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT THE ENGINE BELT IS OFF ITS TRACK, AND IDLE PULLEY HAS BROKEN OFF. THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE FOR WHICH BMW CREATED A RECALL: (RECALL NUMBER -NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID-: 12V5500, RECALL DATE: 11/27/2012, COMPONENT: STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWERS ASSIST SYSTEM). ON MONDAY 08/15/2016, I CALLED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA LLC AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND REQUESTED THAT THEY PAY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE ISSUE WAS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW UNDER THE RECALL ABOVE. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THIS CAR (BMW OF ROCKVILLE, 12/21/2012), BUT FAILURE APPEARS TO CONTINUE TO REPEAT. BMW INSTRUCTED ME TO TOW THE CAR TO THE BMW DEALER AND ONCE AN ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALER WAS GIVEN THEY WILL MAKE A DECISION. THE ESTIMATE WAS AVAILABLE MONDAY, AND WHEN I CALLED THEM BACK TUESDAY MORNING, THEY INFORMED ME THAT A DECISION WILL BE MADE WITHIN 24-48 HOURS. I CALLED EVERY DAY AFTER THE PERIOD FOR THREE DAYS, BUT WAS NEVER TRANSFERRED TO THE CASE MANAGER (SAM), INSTEAD, I WAS ASKED TO SUPPLY MY INFORMATION OVER AND OVER. ON MONDAY 08/22, I CALLED AND REQUESTED TO TALK TO A SUPERVISOR. THE SUPERVISOR SOUNDED IRRITATED BY MY CALL, AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT A DECISION WILL BE MADE WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS. TWO DAYS LATER, SAM CALLED ME AND INFORMED ME THAT HE GOT THE PAPERWORK, AND WILL BE WORKING ON MY CASE. ON TUESDAY 08/30, I CALLED BMW BACK SINCE I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THEM, I REQUESTED TO TALK TO SAM, BUT THE PHONE ASSISTANT INFORMED ME THAT HE IS NOT AVAILABLE, BUT BASED ON THE NOTES AVAILABLE TO HER, I AM BEING DENIED BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE ON THE CAR (62K MILES). AFTER TWO WEEKS OF STRINGING ME ALONG, BMW DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO CALL ME WITH THE BAD NEWS. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT BMW SHOULD OWN AND PAY FOR
AS I WAS DRIVING A CHECK BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, I DROVE FOR APPROX 2 MORE MINS AS I TRIED TO PARK AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND I COULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. I BLOCKED CITY STREET TRAFFIC FOR OVER 2 HRS BEFORE A TOW TRUCK COULD GET ME. AT THE TIME OF THE MALFUNCTION I WAS DRIVING 15-20 MPH. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT ON A FREEWAY OR THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY BMW THAT THE DRIVE BELT FELL APART, (WHILE I WAS DRIVING) IT WENT INTO THE ENGINE AND DESTROYED THE TIMING CHAIN AND CAM SYSTEM. THE ENGINE IS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT THE DRIVE BELT WOULD DESTROY THE ENGINE IN A MATTER OF 2 MINS AND/OR IT IS DEFECTIVE DRIVE BELT. THE CAR HAS APPROX 42K MILES. BMW OFFERED FOR ME TO PAY $2800 FOR THEM TO TAKE THE ENGINE APART AND INVESTIGATE THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION. THIS CAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. ATTACHED ARE MY SERVICE RECORDS.
TAKATA RECALL THIS DEFECTIVE ITEM REMAINS UNFIXED. MY FAMILY IS SUBJECT TO "SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH" BECAUSE THERE IS NOT SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE FOR THE ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED. CALLS TO BMW HAVE NOT HELPED, THEY REMAIN CONTENT TO SAY THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE OFFER NO HELP, SUCH AS HONDA MAY BE DOING. TAKATA APPEARS TO BE UNDER NO PRESSURE TO RESOLVE. IT APPEARS THEY HAVE NO TROUBLE MAKING AIRBAGS FOR NEW CARS BUT NOT FOR THIS RECALL. PLEASE INCREASE THE PRESSURE, IMPOSE FINES, ETC, TO GET THEIR ATTENTION.

DRIVING MY WIFE AND KIDS ON A BUSY CITY STREET TRAVELING 30 MPH. SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING ENGINE OVERHEAT NEEDS TO COOL DOWN WARNING APPEARED. I TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND WE WERE ALMOST HIT TWICE. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND PROCEEDED DOWN A SIDE STREET. ENGINE OVERHEAT SHUT DOWN ENGINE WARNING WHICH APPEARED IN RED CAME UP SO I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR AN HOUR. MY FAMILY SAT FOR AN HOUR HOPING THE ENGINE WOULD COOL OFF BUT TO NO AVAIL. WE WERE LEFT STRANDED @ 1:30AM IN BALTIMORE CITY WHICH IS KNOWN FOR SENSELESS RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE.
I RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG RECALL IN MARCH OF 2016, AND JUST LEARNED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAG WAS RECALLED IN MAY OF 2016. ALL EFFORTS TO LEARN STATUS OF PARTS AVAILABILITY HAVE GONE UNRESPONDEDED TO. I BOUGHT THIS CAR AS A RESULT OF THE REPRESENTATIONS WHICH WERE MADE TO ME BY BMW AND THEIR AGENTS REGARDING THE CAR'S SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. KNOWING THAT THERE IS NOT A DATE IN SIGHT TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS NECESSARY TO CORRECT THIS UNREASONABLY DANGEROUS CONDITION, I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO TRADE MY VEHICLE IN AND PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. TWO DEALERS HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THEY CANNOT ACCEPT THE TRADE-IN BECAUSE OF THE RECALLS. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I AM STUCK WITH A VEHICLE WHICH HAS BEEN DEEMED TO BE UNREASONABLY DANGEROUS FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. THE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF THIS DEFECT SHOULD FALL ON THE MANUFACTURER AND NOT THE CONSUMER.

WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2011 BMW X5 ON INTERSTATE 405 IN BELLEVUE WASHINGTON, GOING NORTH BOUND WITH NORMAL THURSDAY AFTERNOON TRAFFIC WHEN WE FELT A VIBRATION COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER QUICKLY, AND WE HEARD A LOUD THUD. THIS WAS FOUND TO BE THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BREAKING OFF AT THE FORWARD UNIVERSAL JOINT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND OUR FAMILY. WE WERE LUCKY TO DRIVE ALONG THE SHOULDER HAVING THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT PROPEL THE CAR FORWARD SLOWLY TO THE EXIT, AND INTO A SERVICE STATION. THE DESTINATION WE HAD WAS OVER 100 MILES AWAY, SO WE WERE FORTUNATE THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE TWO LANE STEVEN'S PASS HIGHWAY 2. PLEASE SEE THAT BMW MAKES THIS A RECALL ON THE BMW X5 MODELS MANUFACTURED DURING THE PERIOD OF 2011-2012. THE MANUFACTURER CURRENTLY HAS THIS ITEM AS A "WARRANTY" ONLY- SI B26 01 14. ALL DAMAGE COST WAS COVERED, WHICH INCLUDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO CONTACT OR RESULTING EFFECTS. BMW HAS STATED THE PART HAS A WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS OR 120,000MI. THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS INSPECTED ONLY 18,000 MILES PRIOR AND WAS NOT REPLACED BY BMW SERVICE. I DO NOT FEEL BMW HAS TAKEN ENOUGH CONSIDERATION TO THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS PLACED IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHEN THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT IS AT RISK OF FAILURE, DESPITE A REASONABLE INSPECTION INTERVAL OF THE PART. THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT INTERVAL FOR INSPECTING THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT. PLEASE REQUIRE THAT BMW CHANGE THE X5 FRONT DRIVE SHAFT WARRANTY TO A RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. DRIVE SHAFT FAILURE... ON HIGHWAY DRIVING 70 MPH AND THE CAR BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE. PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. CAR THEN WOULD NOT GO INTO DRIVE ONLY NEUTRAL. CAR TOWED TO PERFORMANCE BMW . I HAD PREVIOUSLY COMPLAINED ABOUT HOW LOUD THE CABIN WAS WITH ENGINE NOISE AND A SLIGHT VIBRATION WHEN STOPPING. NOW THE DRIVE SHAFT IS RUINED AS WELL AS LEAH IN OIL HOUSING, PAN ETC
MY 2011 X5 HAS AN EGR COOLER LEAK, WHICH IS LEAKING DIESEL EXHAUST UNDER THE HOOD ANDINTO THE CABIN OF THE CAR. THE ENGINE AND EGR COOLER IS COVERED IN BLACK SOOT AND THERE IS A STRONG DIESEL EXHAUST SMELL UNDER THE HOOD AND IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR. THE EGR COOLER IS LEAKING DIESEL EXHAUST CONSTANTLY WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING. BMW SERVICE CENTER AND A THIRD PARTY SERVICE CENTER HAVE CONFIRMED THIS ISSUE AND SAID THAT THEY HAVE ENCOUNTERED MANY CASES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED BECAUSE DIESEL EXHAUST CAN CAUSE CANCER AND POSES A SIGNIFICANT HEALTH RISK. BMW HAS RECALLED THE EGR VALVE BUT NOT THE EGR COOLER.
PREVIOUS VANOS RECALL CAMPAIN / FIX HAS NOT WORKED AND HAS CAUSED CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. AFTER ONE YEAR FROM RECALL WORK THE TURBO FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. UPON REPLACING TURBO DEALER NOTICED METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL. LESS THAN ONE YEAR LATER AND MULTIPLE ENGINE ISSUES THERE IS LOUD ENGINE KNOCKING. DEALER CLAIMS AGAIN THERE IS METAL SHAVINGS IN THEN OIL AND THE ENGINE AND TURBO NEED TO BE REPLACED. BMW NA IS REFUSING TO COVER WORK EVEN THOUGH THE VANOS BOLT ISSUE IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. THESE VANOS BOLTS SHEAR AND DROP INTO THE TIMING CHAIN CAUSING METAL SHAVING CONTAMINATION TO ENGINE OIL. ENGINE WILL EVENTUALITY LOOSE POWER AND SHUT DOWN AS METAL WORKS ITS WAY THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE RESULTING IN COMPLETE FAILURE AND NECSITATING REPLACEMENT. BMW NA KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, A WARNING MESSAGE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. FRONT DRIVE SHAFT SNAPPED ON THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING ME TO CRASH AND WHEN IT SNAPPED DESTROYED THE THE TRANSFER CASE AND THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING 8K WORTH OF DAMAGE.
PREVIOUS VANOS RECALL CAMPAING FIX IS NOT WORKING. AFTER ONE YEARS REPLACEMENT BOLTS ARE LOOSE AND LOUD ENGINE KNOCKING IS BACK. IF CONTINUE DRIVING BOLTS WILL BE SHEARED AND BREAK TIMING CHAIN CAUSING ENGINE TO SUDDENLY LOOSE POWER AND SHUT DOWN WITH NO PREVIOUS WARNING. WHEN ENGINE RPM REACHES THE 2000 MARK ENGINE STARTS TO LOOSE POWER AND HESITATES DUE TO THE BAD VANOS BOLTS. BMW IS REFUSING TO REPAIR THE VANOS UNIT AND REPLACE THE BOLTS UNDER WARRANTY.

I RECEIVED A NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND STARTED AN ALERT ON DASHBOARD ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCED POWER DRIVE SAFELY TO THE BMW DEALER. BMW DEALER LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND SUGGESTED TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL, SOLENOIDS, BELT TENSIONER AND DEFLECTION PULLY, HOWEVER THE ENGINE SOUND DID NOT GO OFF. NOW THEY ASKING ME TO CHANGE THE ENGINE AND TURBO. THE ONLY SERVICE DID EARLIER WAS THE VANOS GEAR BOLT RECALL. DEALER AND BMW NA SAYS IT'S BECAUSE OF AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER. I THINK AFTERMARKET OIL FILTER DAMAGING THE ENGINE IS IRRELEVANT. I THINK THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM IS GETTING HIDDEN BY BMW. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP.
I WAS DRIVING ON A PARKWAY IN NY WHEN I HEARD A TERRIBLE CRUNCHING METAL NOISE AND I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO PULL OVER. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER EXCEPT FOR A SMALL GRASS AREA WHICH WAS VERY DANGEROUS ON THIS PARTICULAR PARKWAY (SAW MILL PKWY SOUTHBOUND). I STAYED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND CALLED FOR HELP. POLICE ARRIVED IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND HAD TO COME BLOCK OFF TWO LANES IN ORDER FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO SAFELY PULL US OUT OF THE AREA. AFTER THE CAR WAS TOWED, I POSTED ON FORUMS ASKING FOR HELP AND RECEIVED A DOCUMENT STATING THAT BMW HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, NOT A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR PART. THE PART THAT FAILED WAS THE FRONT DRIVE-SHAFT. APPARENTLY MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PART FAIL ON THE ROAD CAUSING AN SIMILARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION YET THE PART HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. BMW PAID FOR THE REPAIR AND MY EXPENSES, BUT I FELT AS IF I WAS IN DANGER WHEN THE PART FAILED AND ALL OTHERS WITH THIS DEFECTIVE PART SHOULD HAVE IT REPLACED PRIOR TO FAILURE VIA A RECALL NOT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF MY FAILURE AS WELL AS THE DOCUMENT FROM BMW.
FOR THE PAST YEAR OR MORE, DRIVING ANY DISTANCE STARTED FITS OF YAWNING. ON OCCASION IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO STAY AWAKE. ON JULY 27, 2015 I APPARENTLY BLACKED OUT IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC AND WOKE UP HAVING COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. DIAGNOSED AS PRE-DIABETIC, I BELIEVED THIS WAS MY PROBLEM, AND UNRELATED TO MY VEHICLE. HOWEVER, MY CAR TOOK 31 DAYS TO REPAIR, AND WHILE DRIVING THE RENTAL CAR THIS YAWNING NEVER AGAIN OCCURRED. YESTERDAY (SEPTEMBER 24, 2015) IT HAPPENED AGAIN. NO COLLISION, BUT GREAT DIFFICULTY GETTING HOME, EVEN WITH THE DRIVER'S WINDOW OPEN FOR MAXIMUM FRESH AIR. I AM CONVINCED THAT THE VEHICLE IS LEAKING CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN. IT'S GOING BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY
THIS CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OVER 40K MILES. WAS DRIVING LONG DISTANCE ON FREEWAY AND SLOWLY I NOTICE STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM THE WHEEL WELL AREA FROM INSIDE THE CAR. I JACKED THE CAR UP AND DO A SPIN AND TURN OUT IT IS THE BEARING MAKING NOISE. CAN'T BELIEVE THIS FAILS AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. WILL THIS AFFECT THE DRIVESHAFT OR ANYTHING SAFETY OF THE CAR AT HIGH SPEED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF BMW HAS A RECALL FOR THIS. THANKS

SEVERE ACCELERATION DELAY FROM A STOP PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC NEARLY CAUSED ME TO BE BROADSIDED. DURING THE FIRST 1/2 TO 1 SECOND AFTER DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THERE IS LITTLE TO NO REACTION FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER THIS PAUSE, WHICH IS WELL BEYOND WHAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, THE VEHICLE SURGES UNCONTROLLABLY. I FOUND MYSELF SIDEWAYS ON A WET PAVED ROAD. MY NATURAL INCLINATION AFTER THE PAUSE WAS TO PRESS FOR MORE GAS, ANY OTHER REACTION WOULD HAVE LEFT ME SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS COMPLAINT IS WELL DOCUMENTED WHEN RESEARCHING BMW ACCELERATION LAG OR THROTTLE TIP IN ON THE INTERNET. IT IS INCREDIBLE THAT BMW WOULD BE ABLE TO ALLOW SUCH UNSAFE PROGRAMING OF THEIR VEHICLES. THIS IS SURE TO HAVE CAUSED ACCIDENTS. I WAS LUCKY, OTHERS MAY NOT BE.
TRAVELING SOUTH ON INSIDE LANE OF 121 NEAR GRAPEVINE, MY X5 SUDDENLY MADE A REALLY LOUD NOISES FROM THE FRONT LEFT SIDE, STARTED LOSING POWER, LIQUID WAS SPEWING BEHIND ME AND SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH. I PULLED OVER AND SAW OIL GUSHING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY 2011 X5. I HAD MY 8 MONTH OLD INFANT AND MY WIFE IN THE CAR, HAD TO RUSH THEM OUT OF THE INFANT SEAT TO ENSURE CAR DOES NOT CATCH ON FIRE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CAR BEHIND HER OTHERWISE WOULD BE REAR ENDED. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE RIGHT FROM THE LEFT LANE AND GOT ONTO LOCAL STREET TO WAIT FOR IT TO COOL DOWN. THIS CAR HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS FOR SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. THIS CAR ONLY HAS A LITTLE OK 40K MILES. THIS IS TOO EARLY FOR A WATER PUMP TO FAIL. THIS CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE COST OF FIX WILL BE OVER $1000. THE WORST IS MY WIFE USES THIS CAR FOR WORK AND DRIVE THE KID TO SCHOOL. CAN BMWNA BE CONTACTED AND PUT THIS FAILURE INTO RECALL. I WAS ON MY WAY OUT OF TOWN ON INTERSTATE 94W, WHEN WITHOUT WARNING MY VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. A SENSOR DISPLAYED STATING THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO DRIVE MODERATELY. I WAS IN THE FAST LANE AND HAD TO GET OVER AT A MOMENT'S NOTICE EVEN WITH THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS ON A BUSY STREET WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH, AND THE CAR OVERHEATED, AND STATED "ENGINE HOT" AND IT PROCEEDED TO SHUT DOWN. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND BUT THE CAR SWITCHED TO ANOTHER LANE AT THE LAST MINUTE. THIS CAR PUT MY LIFE INTO DANGER 2 TIMES TO MANY. IN LATE DECEMBER 2014, THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT WASHER NOZZLE AND COVER FELL OFF SOME TIME DURING USE (VEHICLE SPEED IS UNKNOWN; 45 MPH IS A GUESS). THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY SNOW OR ICE ON IT. IN EARLY MARCH OF 2015, BOTH HEADLIGHT WASHER NOZZLES AND COVERS FELL OFF WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER, BOTH TIMES WITH NO SNOW OR ICE ON THE VEHICLE (THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN A GARAGE AT BOTH HOME AND WORK). THE RIGHT NOZZLE/COVER ASSEMBLY WAS HANGING LOOSELY, AND WAS SALVAGED. IN JANUARY 2015, BMW WOULD NOT PAY FOR REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY, CLAIMING THE PARTS WERE "EXTERIOR TRIM," RATHER THAN SAFETY FEATURES, AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED. AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT INVOLVING BOTH WASHERS, BMW WOULD NOT ALLOW THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER TO DEACTIVATE THE HEADLIGHT WASHERS (TO PREVENT FUTURE INCIDENCES), CLAIMING THE PARTS ARE "SAFETY FEATURES." IT SEEMS BMW CHANGES THE DESIGNATION OF THE PARTS BASED ON WHAT WILL COST THEM MONEY. THE WASHERS ARE OBVIOUSLY SAFETY FEATURES, AND ARE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE VEHICLE'S OPTIONAL "COLD WEATHER PACKAGE," INTENDED TO KEEP THE HEADLIGHTS CLEAR OF DEBRIS LIKE ROAD GRIME AND ICE. THE PARTS ARE ALSO OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE, AS THEY KEEP COMING OFF UNDER NORMAL USE WELL WITHIN THEIR EXPECTED LIFESPAN, AND INITIAL RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH BMW VEHICLES THAT HAVE HEADLIGHT WASHERS. *TR

DAMAGES OVER 1000 USD. THIS SEEMS TO BE A THEME WITH 3.0I VEHICLES OF THAT YEAR. BMW WOULD NOT REPAIR EVEN THOUGH HIGHER CYLINDER ENGINES ARE COVERED UNDER RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
I WAS RECENTLY IN AN ACCIDENT. I REAR ENDED SOMEONE AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY UNTIL AFTER THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. I HAVE CHEST AND RIB PAIN. EVEN DEPLOYED THE AIR BAG WAS NOT FULLY INFLATED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IDLE PULLEY BAR AND BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,560.
ONE YEAR AGO, MADE A LEFT HAND TURN FROM COMPLETE STOP, ACCELERATING TO 40 MPH? MAYBE? WHEN I HEARD AN AWFUL CRUNCHING NOISE, I STOPPED AND SAW MY X5'S DRIVE SHIFT DROPPED DOWN SOME OIL CAME OUT. THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FRONT DRIVE SHIFTS U-JOINT FAILURES. *TR
THE CAR WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AS "REDUCED POWER". TOOK THE CAR INTO CREVIER BMW IN SANTA ANA. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VANOS SYSTEM FOR OUR CAR. WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS AS WELL. LAST JUNE, THE ENGINE OIL HOUSING UNIT WAS REPLACED. NOW THE PROBLEM POINTS TO THE VANOS ON THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE AT THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THE DEALER AND BMW NORTH AMERICA WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUES. BOTH KEEP TELLING US THAT THE "PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE" AND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE BUT WILL LOOK INTO IT ONLY WHEN OR IF THE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE. THUS, FOR THEM TO REPAIR THE ISSUES RIGHT NOW, WE WOULD NEED TO PAY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SCAM AND CONVENIENCE ON THEIR PART NOT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES. I WOULD ASK NHTSA TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS TYPE OF PRACTICE AND MAKE BMW RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V176000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DELAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DID NOT EXPERIENCE A FAILURE.
IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR MY X5 HAD THE INCREASED ENGINE NOISE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON, AND STALLED ON I-80 IN OMAHA. I GOT THE CAR PULLED OVER AND STARTED AGAIN. I THEN HAD HUSKER AUTO OF LINCOLN NE (BMW SHOP) LOOK AT IT. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED AGAIN TO DATE. IN JUNE I GET A LETTER FROM BMW ABOUT THE SAFETY RECALL OF VANOS ASSEMBLY BOLTS. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM FIT MY SITUATION BACK IN MARCH. I TOOK THE LETTER TO HUSKER AUTO BUT THEY SAID I HAD TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER LETTER FROM BMW. I HAVE APPROACHED HUSKER AUTO TWICE MORE SINCE JUNE, WITH SAME STORY FROM THEM. MY QUESTION TO YOU, IS THERE ANYTHING YOUR ADMINISTRATION CAN DO ABOUT BMW NOT ACTING TIMELY ON THE X5 RECALL ISSUE? *TR
ONLY AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, WE GOT A WARNING "ENGINE HOT, DRIVE MODERATELY" THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER, IT SAID TO ENGINE HOT, AND TO STOP THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. WE HAD TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND AFTER ENGINE COOLED A BIT, TAKE OUR 2011 X5 TO THE NEAREST SHOP IN AN EMERGENCY. THE SHOP MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP AND SAID THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH BMW X5, EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY HAD 71,000 MILES. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE IS A RECALL AFFECTING WATER PUMPS FOR BMW X5 2011 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO-CHARGER RECALL NUMBER: 11V521000) BUT WHEN I CALLED BMW, IT SAID THAT MY PARTICULAR ENGINE IS NOT RECALLED. THE MECHANIC SAYS THIS IS UNUSUAL FOR SUCH A NEW CAR TO HAVE ENGINE OVERHEATING DUE TO WATER PUMP FAILURE, THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION IN THE ENGINE WITH THE TORQUE SCREW. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. UPDATED 09/05/14*LJ UPDATED 12/4/2014 *JS
HI, I JUST PURCHASED THE ABOVE VEHICLE ON 5/13/14 AND ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER MY CAR STARTED OVERHEATING. I KIND OF KNEW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH WATER PUMP SO I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE TO SEE IF BMW X5 WAS ANY RECALLS AND TO MY SURPRISE THEY RECALLED NUMEROUS X5'S DUE TO WATER PUMP. I ALSO CALLED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR AND UNFORTUNATELY I WAS TOLD THAT THERE ISN'T. I TOOK MY CAR TO INTERNATIONAL AUTOS ON 6/9/14 FOR A DIAGNOSTICS CHECK AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED THAT WATER PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT MY CAR SHOULD BE UNDER RECALL AS WELL SINCE BMW SEEMS TO HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH THIS. *TR
OON FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2014 I WAS DOING ABOUT 75MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN ATLANTA HEADING HOME FORM A MOVIE AT AROUND 1120PM AND IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR A ENGINE LIGHT WITHIN MY 2011, BMW X5 BEGAN TO GO INTO SAFE MODE DECREASING MY SPEED FROM 75 TO 0 IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS ' EVENTUALLY STALLING AND UNABLE TO RESTART. THE CAR TOOK OVER AND WENT INTO NEUTRAL BY ITSELF AND I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE OR CONTROL THE SPEED ON MY OWN. ATLANTAS 285 EXPRESSWAYS HAS MULTIPLE LANES AND THOUGH TRAFFIC WAS NOT AS HEAVY AS IT GENERALLY IS DURING RUSH HOURS, I HAD TO FRANTICALLY NAVIGATE MYSELF OVER SIX LANES TO THE SHOULDER ROAD (AVOIDING THE MAIN LANE BY THE EXTERIOR WALL OUT OF FEAR OF SOMEONE HITTING ME FROM BEHIND). I BEGAN TO CRY UNCONTROLLABLY AND IMMEDIATELY HIT THE SOS OPTION WITHIN THE CAR AND EXPLAIN WHAT JUST OCCURRED TO THE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE. THE LADY WAS EXTREMELY PLEASANT AND DID HER BEST TO PUT ME AT EASE AND ASSURED ME ASSISTANCE WAS ON THE WAY. I THEN CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HAD HIM MEET ME THERE AS WELL. WITHIN AN HOUR A TOWING COMPANY HAD COME AND ASKED ME IF I WANTED THEM TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP AND I STATED SURE THAT DEALERSHIP WAS NALLEY BMW. *TR
MY BMW X5 2011 STARTED GIVING ME LIGHT WHILE I WAS DRIVING POWER REDUCED ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER 10 MIN ENGINE STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING CALLING BMW FOR IT BUT FORTUNATELY I WAS DRIVING AT 10-20 MILES AN HOUR VERY SLOW AND WAS ABLE TO PULL ON SIDE BUT IT WAS HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH MY KIDS ,WIFE WHOLE FAMILY IN CAR ..........COULD HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE ......VERY SCARED NOW ....SPENDING BIG MONEY FOR BMW AND ONLY AFTER 54000MILES ....SUCH THING HAPPENING ..ITS TERRIBLE .I IMPORTED THIS VEHICLE TO CANADA SO DON'T HAVE OPTION BELOW FOR CANADA AND ZIP CODE BUT STILL WANT TO REPORT THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM .....VERY IMPORTANT. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY, A LOUD POP OCCURRED AT APPROX. 35MPH. THE POP WAS FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF DRIVE TORQUE TO THE FRONT AXLE. I BEGAN TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND A SECOND LOUD POP WAS HEARD FOLLOWED BY THE SOUND OF METAL CRASHING TO THE GROUND. I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF DRIVE TORQUE TO THE FRONT AXLE AND COASTED TO RELATIVE SAFETY ON THE ENTRANCE OF AN EXIT RAMP. UPON EXPECTING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, I COULD SEE A SEPARATED FRONT DRIVESHAFT, MISSING UNIVERSAL JOINT AND THE TRANSFER CASE WAS TOUCHING THE GROUND AND THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF FLUID DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE CAR. THERE WAS A TRAIL OF FLUID ON THE EXIT RAMP LEADING TO WHERE I PULLED OVER INDICATING THAT THE FLUID WAS LEAKING AND EVENTUALLY DUMPED COMPLETELY WHEN I PULLED OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEARED BMW DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND DIAGNOSIS. *TR
VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER (MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL) WITHOUT WARNING. THIS OCCURRED WHILE CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKING BECAME SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DIFFICULT. AFTER DRIFTING SAFELY TO THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER THE VEHICLE REMAINED DISABLED AND COULD NOT STARTED. THE CAR EXHIBITED NO SIGNS THAT IT WOULD START AGAIN. INSTRUMENTATION DID NOT DISPLAY INFORMATION AND TOWING WAS NECESSARY. SEVERAL DAYS AFTER DELIVERY TO THE BMW SERVICE CENTER, TECHNICIANS ADVISED THEY HAD ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE STATED CAUSE WAS VANOS BOLTS SHEARING OFF INTO THE ENGINE. HOWEVER, ON THE TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE SUFFERED ANOTHER COMPLETE FAILURE, LEAVING IT DISABLED. 56 DAYS LATER A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE HAD REPLACED THE ORIGINAL DUE TO FAILED REPAIR ATTEMPTS. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SPORADICALLY BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED WHENEVER THE CONTACT REVERSED FROM HIS DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TWICE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IDLE PULLEY BOLT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER REPLACED THE IDLER PULLEY BELT A THIRD TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
VANOS INTAKE AND EXHAUST UNITS NEED TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH SOME OTHER PARTS RELATED TO THIS. CAR HAS BEEN AT THE BMW CENTER FOR ALMOST 1 WEEK. WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD, THE "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCED POWER" ERROR MESSAGE CAME ON. I ALSO NOTICED, THE CAR HAD TURNED OFF AND I HAD NOT CONTROL OVER THE POWER STEERING WHEEL OR BRAKES. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THIS HAPPENING AGAIN, LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME, OTHERWISE IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE DUE TO NO POWER STEERING AVAILABILITY OR BRAKES. *TR
MY 2011 X5 35I HAS AN ACCELERATION DELAY. BMW HAS RECOGNIZED IT AS AN ISSUE IN THE 535I MODELS, CALLING IT AN "ACCELERATION DELAY" AND HAVE ISSUED AN SIB SOFTWARE UPDATE TO REPAIR IT, BUT HAVE NOT DONE SO FOR THE X5 MODEL. I FEEL THIS ISSUE IS DANGEROUS AND A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS TIRE CONSTANTLY LOST AIR PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE RIM WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. . ..UPDATED 03-12-14 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE RIM HAD A STRESS FRACTURE/ UPDATED 04/01/14
OUR 2011 BMW X5D (DIESEL) STARTED HAVING STEERING ISSUES IN JUN OF 2012. MULTIPLE REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. LATER IT WAS INVOLVED IN A LOW SPEED CRASH, INJURING THE DRIVER IN DEC 2012 DUE TO A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS WAS JUST MONTHS BEFORE ISSUING A RECALL FOR THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM ALTHOUGH BMW IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS BEFORE THE INITIAL PROBLEM WAS NOTICED. THE VEHICLE STILL TO THIS DAY HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, DIFFICULT LOW SPEED MANEUVERS AND UNUSUAL TIRE WEAR. WE DO HAVE A RECORDING OF A BMW OF NORTH AMERICA MASTER TECHNICIAN ADMITTING TO THE PROBLEM THAT BMW REFUSES TO CORRECT. IN FACT BMW REFUSES TO EVEN PERFORM WORK ON OUR VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT'S ADVERTISED AS "NO MAINTENANCE FOR 4YEARS/50,000 MILES" THIS IS AT ANY DEALERSHIP WE HAVE GONE TO DUE TO A NOTE IN THE DATABASE FROM BMW OF NORTH AMERICA. ALSO VEHICLE SERVICE HISTORY HAS BEEN FRAUDULENTLY ERASED FROM THEIR DATABASE AND BMW REFUSES TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE WHICH WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2010 AND IS STILL UNDER FULL FACTORY WARRANTY. THEY INSIST THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE OFFICIALLY, WHILE UNOFFICIALLY ADMITTING THAT IT IS DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TPM ERROR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE SURGED. IN ADDITION, SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF ALONG WITH POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. IT STARTED AGAIN AND I TOOK IT TO A BMW DEALER THAT SAID I NEEDED A $325 SOFTWARE UPDATE. I ASKED IF THAT MEANT MY ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING SHOULD BY SOFTWARE EVER GO OUT OF DATE. THEY SAID YES, IT HAPPENS BUT NOT ON ALL SOFTWARE UPDATES. THEY ALSO SAID SOFTWARE UPDATE COME OUT ABOUT EVERY 3 TO 4 MONTHS MEANING MY ENGINE COULD BE SHUT OFF AGAIN AT ANY TIME. I FELT I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY THE MONEY SO MY CAR WOULD RUN AGAIN. I AM CONCERNED NOW ABOUT DRIVING AT ANY HIGHER RATE OF SPEED CONSIDERING I COULD LOSE MY STEERING AND BRAKES ANYTIME SOMEONE DECIDES I NEED TO UPDATE SOFTWARE THAT I WAS NEVER INFORMED WAS OUT OF DATE. *TR
STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH "ENGINE MALFUNCTION - REDUCED POWER" AND DROVE A FEW HUNDRED YARDS AND THEN THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED. THE 2011 BMW X5 35I PREMIUM JUST DIED - NO POWER WHATSOEVER. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO POWER, THE CAR COULD NOT BE PUT INTO NEUTRAL TO BE PUT ON A FLATBED. THE X5 HAD TO BE PUT ON A CRANE AND LIFTED ONTO A FLATBED TOW TRUCK. BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN THE U.S. AND IS U.S. SPEC (CAR WAS IN THE U.S. FOR 2 YEARS) - SHIPPED THE CAR TO GERMANY AND THIS IS WHERE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED (CAR BEEN IN GERMANY JUST A FEW MONTHS). BMW OF MUNICH SAID THAT THERE IS A BOLT THAT CAN BREAK OFF - WHICH IT DID - MUNICH REQUESTED THE LOCAL DEALER TO TAKE THE ENGINE APART TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE FAULT AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS. BMW IS REPLACING OUR ENGINE BECAUSE OF THIS FAULT. HOWEVER, THE RECALL AS OF NOW IS ONLY FOR THE X5 DIESELS. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED. HAD WE BEEN ON THE AUTOBAHN WHERE THERE AREN'T MANY SPEED LIMIT AREAS, THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATAL CRASH IF SOMEONE GOING 100+MPH RAMMED BEHIND US FROM OUR CAR DYING OF CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. AT 16,000 MILES THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT NEED A NEW ENGINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, EXHAUST FUMES FROM THE ENGINE COULD BE SMELLED WHILE IN THE CABIN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE POWER ASSIST ON THE BRAKES FAILED AND THAT BOTH FAILURES RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT IN ORDER TO REMEDY THE BRAKE FAILURE, A VALVE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE EXHAUST FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
SATURDAY DECEMBER 29, 2012 I GET INTO MY 2011 X5 AS I PULLED OUT FROM MY DRIVEWAY THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON WITH A MESSAGE " ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCE POWER". LIFE QUALITY GAVE ME A HARD TIME TO BEGIN WITH TO GET THE CAR IN CLAIMING THEY WERE BOOKED WITH APPOINTMENTS. AFTER CALLING CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT HEADQUARTERS, I GET A CALL FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER TO BRING IN THE CAR. I HAD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOW THE CAR, WHEN THE CAR ARRIVE TO THE DEALER MY CAR ADVISOR CALLS ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE, WAS THE VEHICLE INVOLVE IN CRASH, DID HIT A POT HOLE, BASICALLY LOOKING FOR ALL TYPE OF EXCUSES. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND ASK THAT THESE MODELS BE REVIEWED SINCE IT APPEARS TO HAVE MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR
WHEN DROVE IT ON A LOCAL STREET, THE CAR SUDDENLY MADE VERY LOUD NOISE WITHOUT ANY SIGN. AFTER CAR TOWED TO BMW DEALER, THE ENGINEER FOUND THE REASON AS DESCRIBABLE AS: FLYWHEEL BOLTS ARE INCORRECT AND NOT HOLDING THE FLYWHEEL TIGHTLY IN PLACE.
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE ON 02/06/12 AT 0300 WHILE PARKED IN GARAGE. ACCORDING TO MIAMI'S FIRE DEPARTMENT THIS WAS NOT DEEMED ARSON/VANDALISM, NO EVIDENCE OF FORCED ENTRY OR ACCELERATE WAS NOTED. A RECALL FOR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR SUCH MODEL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT OBSERVED EXCESSIVE RUST AND CORROSION WITHIN THE FUEL TANK, EXHAUST SYSTEM AND THE ATTACHING COMPONENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE OWNER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE EMITTED FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF OIL LOSS IN THE RESERVOIR. THE CONTACT THEN ADDED MORE OIL ACCORDINGLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO REFUSED TO MEASURE THE OIL MANUALLY PER THE CONSUMERS REQUEST, THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REIMBURSED THE CONSUMER FOR TWO DAYS OF MOTEL, FOOD AND TOWING COSTS. UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. UPDATED 3/11/13 *CN BMW OFFERED TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK, BUT LATER CHANGED THEIR MIND. THE CASE WENT TO COURT, AND THE JUDGE RULED THE OFFER WAS NOT BINDING. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD RUN HOT, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR.
ON NOVEMBER 28, 2011, TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION WARNING CAME ON AND VEHICLE COULD NOT BE SHIFTED INTO GEAR. AFTER 30 MINUTES, FAULT WENT AWAY AND VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO HOME ADDRESS. ON DECEMBER 14TH THE SAME FAULT APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SENT TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. IT TOOK BMW 8 DAYS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION 'MECHATRONIC' UNIT. ON DECEMBER 22, THE XDRIVE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE RETURNED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. *TR
ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. WARNING LAMPS INDICATED REDUCED POWER. SEVERAL OCCURRENCES WERE AT SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE. CAR WOULD RESTART AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. CAR WAS LEFT WITH BMW FOR SERVICE. HOWEVER, BMW SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT PERFORM ANY REPAIRS THE FIRST TIME. CAR AGAIN DIED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED ON HIGHWAY SEVERAL WEEKS LATER. BMW STATED THAT THERE WAS LOSS OF ENGINE COMPRESSION. THEN, STATED THAT FUEL INJECTORS WERE FAULTY. THEN, CLAIMED THAT IT WAS DUE TO "BAD GAS" AND/OR SUGAR IN THE GAS TANK. *TR
VEHICLE HAS "M SPORTS" OPTION, WITH WIDE TIRES AND FLARED FENDER EDGES. FRONT TIRES KICK UP SALT & OTHER ROAD DEBRIS ONTO THE REAR FENDER FLARES & REAR DOORS DAMAGING BODY PAINT. FRONT FENDER SKIRTS WOULD PREVENT DAMAGE. BMW AREA REP. REFUSED TO VIEW DAMAGE. THE COMPANY REFUSES TO REPAIR DAMAGE THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT CAUSED. THE BMW DEALER BODY SHOP QUOTED $4,500 TO REPAIR PAINT DAMAGE. DEALER AGREES IT IS A BMW PROBLEM. BMW REFUSES PAY FOR FENDER SKIRTS THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD HAVE. AFTER MONTHS OF DISCUSSION WITH THEIR REPRESENTATIVE AT BMW U.S. HEADQUARTERS, BMW AGREED IN WRITING TO PAY ME $500 TO COVER MY INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE AND THE APPROX. $176 TO COVER MY COST FOR THE FENDER SKIRTS. I ACCEPTED THAT WRITTEN OFFER EVEN THOUGH I KNEW THEY OWE MORE THAN THAT. NOW THEY REFUSE TO PAY ME ANYTHING CLAIMING I MUST GET THE DAMAGE REPAIRED BEFORE THEY PAY. WE NEVER HAD ANY DISCUSSION OR AGREEMENT LIKE THAT. *TR
2012 BMW X5. UPON ENGINE START UP WHEN COLD, THE ENGINE SURGES EXCESSIVELY. IF THE TRANSMISSION IS ENGAGED DURING THE SURGING (FLUCTUATING RPM) THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD/REVERSE CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. *KB
I OWN A 2011 BMW X5 35I PREMIUM. I FIND IT INEXCUSABLE TO HAVE BRAKE DUST CONTINUALLY RUINING MY WHEELS, WHICH DEALER STATES THERE IS NO RESOLUTION. THIS CAR IS JERKY WHEN STARTING AND DRIVING AROUND TOWN. ALSO, CARS ENGINE ROARS LOUDLY UPON STARTING.....SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT! VERY HARD RIDE, GIVES ME HEADACHES ON FREEWAYS NEEDING REPAIRS. I NEVER GET HEADACHES. BRAKE ASSIST COMES ON IN LEVEL AREAS OR CAR IS BEING HELD BACK FROM FULL ACCELERATION. MY EXHAUST SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY RUSTED, CAR IS ONLY 6 MO OLD. WARNING: BLACK DASH CAUSES DRIVERS FACE TO BURN IN HOT TEMPS. IN SUMMER. ON TRIP I HAD TO COVER MY DASH WITH WHITE PAPER TOWELS TO ALLEVIATE MY FACE BURNING WHILE DRIVING. LEATHER SEEMS INFERIOR AND INDENTS EASILY AND STAYS INDENTED. CAR DOES NOT GIVE OPTION ON HEATED SEATS OF USING BACK OR SEAT HEAT. ALSO DOES NOT HAVE COOLED SEATS. WHEN REQUESTING UPGRADE OF NAVIGATION FROM DEALER, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $200. EVEN THO. I SHOULD HAVE A FREE UPGRADE, SINCE THE CAR CAME WITH 2010 VERSION! REAR TAILGATE DOESN'T ALWAYS OPEN WITH KEY FAUB. CARPET ROUND VELCROW FROM FLOOR CAME LOSE AND TORE LEATHER ON MY CONSOLE! WITH A BRAND NEW CAR, I DID NOT EXPECT SO MANY PROBLEMS! I AM LOOKING FOR A CAR WITHOUT PROBLEMS AND EXPECTED MY BMW TO BE JUST THAT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. I ALL READY HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. FIND USING CRUISE CONTROL BEHIND STEERING WHEEL VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT IS TOO LOW AND IF YOU LOOK DOWN AT YOUR KNEES TO PUT IT ON, YOU CAN'T SEE WHERE YOU ARE DRIVING! MY MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME THERE IS A CERTAIN WAY TO PUT ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SO THE BOLT INTO THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE? DOESN'T BREAK OFF! THIS IS A CAR FOR A MECHANIC TO OWN. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT TO DO? IT SEEMS THE SMALL ENGINE IS NOT PAIRED CORRECTLY WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TURBO, CAUSING JERKING WHEN ACCELERATING, AND FEELS LIKE THE BRAKE IS ON WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AROUND TOWN. THIS CAR HAS ME VERY WORRIED!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, HE ATTEMPTED TO PARK. WHILE ENGAGING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE JUMPED A CURB AND CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TWO DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED DEALERS FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHERE BOTH WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. ALSO, AN ENGINEER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND PROVIDED NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAD REMAINED AT THE DEALER FOR SIX WEEKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO AIR EMITTING FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER WHEN ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 469. UPDATED 11/08/11*LJ UPDATED 11/14/11
CAN I GET LISTING OF ANY OPEN RECALL CAMPAIGN ON 2011 BMW X5 35D MANUFACTURED ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2010. THANKS *TR
THE OVERHEAD READING LIGHTS (4) IN MY BMW X5 DO NOT HAVE PROTECTIVE COVERS ON THEM AND THEY BECOME EXTREMELY HOT WHEN TURNED ON. MY 3 YEAR OLD SON TOUCHED THE LIGHT IN THE BACKSEAT RESULTING IN A BURN AND BLISTER ON HIS FINGER. I AM TOLD BY BMW THAT THIS IS THE DESIGN OF THESE LIGHTS AND THERE IS NO "FIX" TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN THIS EXPOSED LIGHT IS TOUCHED. *TR
