In 2016 the rear passenger door latch failed. Thinking it was a natural wear & tear type thing, we ordered parts online and re[paired it ourselves for about $100 With in 6 months something inside the door failed, we opened it up and thought we repaired it again, but something is wrong and it just wont open. Has not opened in over 5 years, but I can live with it. after all it is the rear passenger door. In 2018 the front passenger door latch failed and again we ordered parts online and repaired it ourselves for about $100. In 2019 the spring inside the front passenger door broke, but since the door still opened & locked, we let it ride. I can live with the interior door handle feeling loose as long as it still opens the door. In June, 2021 the front drivers interior door handle broke off in my hand while opening the car door. I took it to the dealership for repair at a cost of $237....should have just ordered the part and replaced it myself....or switched out the one from the rear passenger door (lol) since we dont use that door anymore. Wednesday, 11/17/21, the driver front door latch failed. It would not have been much of an issue, but we were not home and I had to drive home with the window down and holding the door closed. This caused my husband, who already has anxiety issues, MUCH anguish. I now also had to deal with his having a panic attack while driving, with the window down and holding the door so it would not open while moving. We did stop at the local mechanic and their initial parts search says $245 for parts, plus labor, so roughly $400 this time. I am starting to wonder if the door latches on Chevy cars are just defective and needed to be recalled way before 2016? I know there was a recall on Ford door latches. I have heard instances where the hatch latches have failed on 2011 HHRs, so I know it is just a matter of time before my hatch latch as well as the drivers rear door latch fails.

Metal fuel line is leaking near exhaust. Leak is coming from factory heat sheild that is around the fuel line. Heat sheild is holding moisture causing lines to rust. Doing research I am seeing this is a common problem and wondering why there is no recall.
My 2011 Chevy HHR has developed a fuel leak that has progressed to the point where I no longer drive the vehicle. The gasoline appears to be leaking from the fuel line, just in front of the left rear tire and leaks only while the engine is running. I understand that NHTSA is conducting an investigation into this matter, but has not included my year of vehicle. I would like for NHTSA become aware that this fuel leak issue does effect vehicles with manufacture dates outside the scope of its investigation.
Fuel supply lines near drivers rear wheel started leaking while engine is running. Strong odors of gasoline and significant puddle of fuel under the car after a short time of running. It appears to be excessive corrosion of the line near the supports, heat shield. This leak seams to be near the exhaust system of the car so could be a fire safety issue. Inside of a garage or other closed area, these fumes could lead to possible explosion from an ignitions source
I would like to report of a fuel line leak in the fuel lines from the fuel tank to the engine. The lines are leaking due to corrosion caused by the manufacturer encasing the lines in , I think heat resistant tape to protect from the nearby exhaust , and a plastic type clamp that holds and separates the fuel and brake lines . The vehicle does not have to be running for fuel to leak as it will leak if just the key is on due to the electric fuel pump. I have read many complaints of this online and understand that there is an investigation into this safety problem ( fire hazard due to proximity of exhaust) . This is a manufacture design / engineering problem and should be recalled by them . This is a very expensive repair ( $ 1,200.00 if only fuel , more if brake lines need replacing ) , that not all people will be able to afford and will therefore ( like myself ) continue to drive their vehicles until they can have it repaired or worst try to attempt to repair it themselves ( not something I would suggest ). I think everybody is at risk if vehicles are driving around leaking fuel ( and maybe losing brakes next ) because people can not afford to fix them . I hope tragedy doesn't strike first ( as seems to be the case nowadays ) before people are motivated to take action . Attached are pictures showing the lines dry and wet . The tape and clamp are visible in picture , showing where corrosion and leaking occurred .
Fuel line leaking very heavily. I have read that some of these vehicles were recalled but mine was NOT. The fuel is leaking at a very heavy drip drip drip rate from the rear driver side and causing fuel puddles. This is directly near the exhaust system. I’m very surprised as I also have an identical 2008 Chevy HHR with similar but lighter leak. I’m surprised that this is not a recall given a fuel leak. It should also be an EPA issue. Why would the car use coated brake lines but no stainless or coated lines for fuel when they run so closely to the exhaust system? This should easily be a safety/environmental recall related issue.
i began noticing a fuel smell at the rear of my car late last week. upon inspection, I noticed that my fuel lines were corroded below some heat shield fabric ahead of the left rear wheel. when I went online, I noticed a recent recall for this exact problem, except, it did not include my model year.my complaint is that this car is identical, with regards to the fuel delivery and that GM should include it in its recall. I have not attempted to contact any dealership as of yet, because entering my vin, does not produce a positive result on this site or others I have tried.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated that while standing at the rear of the vehicle, there was a strong fuel odor present. Upon inspection, it was discovered that fuel was leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the fuel line was damaged due to rusting and corrosion and the lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.
Heading home , going over the bridge @ 20mph from the nationals field going south bound heading towards south capital exit. Traveling On the right side of the road , I approached and drove over the metal sewer drainage that’s not properly in the ground leveled which caused damage to my vehicles suspension. Immediately after the impact , I started hearing a strange noise as well as when I moved the steering wheel. I took my vehicle to Sears auto center on 7/01/21to be evaluated and explained the incident. I couldn’t avoid the drainage due to another vehicle was on the left side of the road . I had to pay $1,111.92 out of my pocket and would like my money back. This drainage isn’t in the ground properly which caused the problem to my vehicle. Is unavoidable especially if there’s an vehicle directly across from you.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor inside and outside the vehicle. The contact was a certified mechanic and noticed that fuel was leaking from the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the fuel line was leaking and needed to be replaced. The contact contacted the dealer and was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was not available.
DROVE CAR APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES AND PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. IMMEDIATELY SMELLED GAS UPON EXITING CAR AND SAW PUDDLE FORMING IN FRONT OF LEFT REAR TIRE. COULD FEEL THE SPOT WHERE LEAK WAS COMING FROM AND SEE THE DROPS AS THEY FELL. I CRAWLED UNDERNEATH AND TOOK THESE PICTURES. THE CORROSION WAS AT ONE OF THE BRACKETS RIGHT BEFORE A PIECE OF HEAT SHIELD. I THEN PEELED BACK PART OF THE HEAT WRAP AND FOUND THAT IT WAS VERY WET FROM THE LEAKING GAS AS WAS THE FRAME AND OTHER PARTS IN THE VICINITY OF THE LEAK. THE LEAK ONLY OCCURRED OF COURSE WHEN THE FUEL LINES WERE PRESSURIZED. APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF THE DRIPS OF FUEL WOULD STOP.
BECAUSE OF POOR DESIGN THE FUEL LINES ON MY HHR RUSTED AND DEVELOPED A LEAK SPRAYING FUEL OVER THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE . WE NOTICED THE ODER OF GASOLINE WHEN WE PARKED. IT IS A 2011 HHR
STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE NEAR VEHICLE AND INSIDE VEHICLE. ODOR PERSISTENTLY GOT WORSE OVER TIME, AND WAS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED. VEHICLE REPAIRED ON JANUARY 11, 2021, HOWEVER ODOR STARTED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR EARLIER, BUT ONLY AFTER FILLING TANK WITH GAS. FUEL TANK BROKEN AND LEAKING.

THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR UNEXPECTED UNLATCHED WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE THE DRIVEWAY. THE DOOR CLOSED AND LATCHED NORMALLY WHILE STATIONARY. WHILE BACKING UP THEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT OUT INTO THE STREET, THE DRIVER DOOR SUDDENLY TO SWING OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND CLOSED THE DOOR AGAIN, THE DOOR SHUT AND LATCHED BUT WOULDN'T STAY LATCHED. THE DOOR LATCH AND DOOR STRIKE DON'T LOOK DAMAGED, THE DOOR JUST WON'T STAY LATCHED.
MY FUEL LINE JUST IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE HAS STARTED LEAKING REALLY BAD. THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE PLUS VISIBLE GASOLINE LEAKING ON THE GROUND. VERY DANGEROUS. AFTER A SEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA AND GM. ADD MY 2011 HHR TO THE LIST OF FUEL LINES THAT HAS STARTED LEAKING.

INTENSE GAS SMELL AND SLIGHT IGNITION DELAY. NO GAS SMELL UNTIL AFTER IT IS RUNNING.. I UNDERSTAND I SHOULD NOT EVEN DRIVE VEHICLE TO REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE OF A FIRE DANGER. MY 2011 CHEVY HHR LIKE MANY OTHERS I'VE LEARNED FROM CHECKING ONLINE IS LEAKING GAS NEAR THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND IS VERY DANGEROUS . WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL ON THIS ARE YOU WAITING FOR ONE OF THESE CARS TO BURST IN FLAMES AND SOMEONE TO BE KILLED BEFORE GM IS MADE RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THE DEFECT . I DON'T HAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS .AND EVEN WHEN GM IS HELD RESPONSIBLE THEY DO AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE AND THEY DON'T REALLY ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE A 2004 CHEVY IMPALA AND THERE IS A RECALL ON THAT FOR THE IGNITION , BY THE TIME THEY NOTIFIED ME MY IGNITION SWITCH HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THEY WON'T FIX THAT . THERE FIX IS TO ALTER THE KEY SO THERE ISN'T SO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE SWITCH. I NOTICED A STICK ON THE WINDOW FROM THE RECENT STORMS, AND WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR TO REMOVE THE STICK FROM THE WINDSHIELD, THE HANDLE JUST CAME OFF IN MY HAND. THIS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. WHAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED IN AN ACCIDENT, AND I HAD BEEN TRAPPED IN MY CAR? SUDDEN TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR'S SHAPE PROBABLY DOESN'T HELP. CONNECTOR ISN'T DESIGNED WELL, IT'S CLOSE TO A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. SO, ANY STRESS ALL GOES TO THE SAME POINT ON THE CONNECTOR.

THE ENGINE BEGAN A RANDOM MISFIRE PROBLEM, P0300 CODE. I GOT THE THROTTLE BODY CHANGED OUT, NOW THE CAR REVS HIGHER EVERY TIME I START IT. IT GIVES ITSELF FUEL IN REVERSE AND DRIVE, WITH NO HELP FROM THE GAS PEDAL. IT IS UNSAFE.
ON AUGUST 2 2018 I WAS DRIVING. I HAD MY OLDEST DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT. WE CAME TO A STOP SIGN AND MADE A RIGHT TURN. AS I WAS TURNING THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN AND MY DAUGHTER AND HER CELL PHONE WENT FLYING OUT. SHE GOT SCRAPES AND BRUISES BUT NOTHING MAJOR. HER CELL PHONE SCREEN SMASHED. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER THINKING SHE JUST DIDN'T SHUT THE DOOR ALL THE WAY AND TRIED TO SHUT IT. IT WOULDN'T LATCH. I WENT TO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION AND TRIED GETTING THE DOOR TO SHUT, AS I WAS STANDING THERE SLAMMING THE DOOR IN THE POURING RAIN, I NOTICED A LADY TRYING TO SHUT HER DOOR. HERS WOULDN'T SHUT EITHER (SHE DRIVES A CHEVY, NOT THE SAME MAKE) I WENT OVER TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THE LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. I CALLED AUTO ZONE TO SEE IF THEY HAVE THE PART FOR THE CAR BECAUSE I CAN NOT DRIVE AROUND WITH A REAR DOOR THAT WILL NOT SHUT. THE LADY I SPOKE TO TOLD ME THAT IT IS A DEALER PART AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE DEALER BUT IN THE MEANTIME I CAN GET A STRIKER REPAIR KIT ONLINE. SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE ALSO HAS A CHEVY AND HER DOORS WON'T STAY SHUT. I CALLED CHEVY AND HAVE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM SOMEONE ON WHAT TO DO. THIS ISN'T A PROBLEM THAT WE CAN SEE. IT HAS TO BE AN INTERNAL ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ESC SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN STOPPING AND PUTTING CAR IN PARK, KEY WILL NOT TURN TO OFF AND CANNOT BE REMOVED. IF KEY LEFT IN, BATTERY WENT DEAD AND WE WERE STUCK IN A RV STORAGE LOT.
INSTRUMENT PANEL FUNCTIONS WORK INTERMITTENTLY WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND FLASHES ON AND OFF. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS THE SPEEDOMETER FUNCTION DOES NOT WORK WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM ALSO AFFECTS THE ABILITY OF TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT INTO GEAR PROPERLY. WHEN VEHICLE IS CHECKED USING DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER, COMPUTER FAILS TO DETECT CODE ERROR OR IDENTIFY PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE.ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
RUSTED FUEL LINES.
WHEN STEERING AROUND SHARP TURNS AT SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT WANT TO RETURN TO CENTER WHEN RELEASED. STEERING IS NOT SMOOTH, FEELS 'NOTCHY'. FUSE IS GOOD. REPLACING POWER STEERING MOTOR DID NOT REPAIR PROBLEM.
I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER, BECAUSE MY AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON. I ASKED ABOUT A RECALL THERE TOLD ME THERE HASNT BEEN ONE. NOW I AM CLEARLY SEEING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL. MY LIGHT HAS BEEN ON ABOUT A YEAR NOW AND I WOULD LIKE IT TO BE SERVICED.

MY 2011 HHR HAS STARTED ACTING UP BY THROWING OUT THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT, ESC LIGHT AND SERVICE TRACTION LIGHT. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN IN PARK(WHEN WARNING UP THE VEHICLE) AND WHEN IM DRIVING. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE IN COLD WEATHER. WHEN IT HAPPENS IT REDUCES THE SPEED DOWN TO 25MPH AND LURCHES FORWARD AND SOUNDS HORRIBLE! I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AND THE INTERSTATE (LUCKILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND ABLE TO GET THE SHOULDER SAFELY. THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN IT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. IT ALSO WILL DO IT WHILE STOPPED WAITING FOR A STOP LIGHT TO CHANGE. IT WILL THROW ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WE HAVE CHECKED THE CODES AND CHANGED WHAT IT SAID NEEDED CHANGE BUT THAT DID NOT WORK. FROM WHAT I HAVE LOOKED UP IT LOOKS LIKE PEOPLE ARE HAVING ALL SORTS OF ISSUES WITH THIS BUT NO ONE HAS FOUND A SOLUTION. THE CHEVY DEALER HOOKED IT TO THE COMPUTER AND SAID IT'S MISFIRING ON ALL FOUR CYCLINDERS, BUT THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.

THE SITUATION COULD BE AN EXTREME HAZARD SHOULD THE VEHICLE BE ON FIRE OR UNDER WATER. WHAT IF IN A COLD CLIMATE THE WINDOW WAS FROZE? WHAT IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND WOULDN'T START THEREFORE THE WINDOW WOULDN'T WORK. WHAT IF A ELDERLY PERSON OR A CHILD WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND WAS UNABLE TO LOWER THE WINDOW AND OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE? INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS NUMEROUS OTHER INCIDENTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THE LATCH WOULD NOT CATCH ONTO THE BAR TO KEEP THE DOOR SHUT. UPPON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS OF CHEVY HHR OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR CAR DOOR LOCKS AS WELL. THE LOCK ACTUATOR NO LONGER FUNCTIONING CAUSING THE LATCH TO NONLINEAR WORK. CAUSING A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. WE CAN NOT DRIVE A CAR THAT'S DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE AND STAY SHUT. IT JUST POPS RIGHT BACK OPEN. SEEING HOW MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND REPORTS THERE ARE ONLINE, THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY CHEVY AND GM. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT, AS A SAFTY CONCERN / HAZARD NOTICE, ASSOCIATED WITH MY 2011 CHEVROLET HHR. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW BY ME, AND HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. THIS COMPLAINT CONCERNS THE MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE VEHICLES DRIVERS SIDE, REAR DOOR LATCH. ON NOVEMBER 12, 2015, AFTER PICKING UP MY DOG FROM THE GROOMER, I PLACED HER INTO HER CARRIER, LOCATED BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT. I CLOSED THE DOOR, AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. AS I BEGAN TO PULL OUT, ONTO THE ROADWAY, I GLANCED AT MY OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR, AND NOTICED THAT THE DOOR HAD PARTIALLY OPENED. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED, THINKING THAT I HAD POSSIBLY NOT CLOSED THE DOOR SECURELY, OR THAT THERE WAS POSSIBLY SOMETHING IN THE WAY THAT PREVENTED THE DOOR FROM LATCHING CLOSED. EXITING THE VEHICLE, I LOOKED FOR ANYTHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE WAY, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. I ATTEMPTED TO FIRMLY "CLOSE" THE DOOR, HOWEVER, THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH CLOSED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME WHILE MY WIFE HELD THE DOOR CLOSED WITH OUR DOG LEASH ATTACHED TO IT. AFTER RETURNING HOME, I WAS ABLE TO EXERCISE AND EXAMINE THE DOOR LATCH, AND CONCLUDED THAT IT IN FACT HAD "MECHANICALLY FAILED". THE DOOR LATCH WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED. I CONTACTED BRAD'S COLLISION CENTER ( 22202 N. 19TH AVE., PHOENIX, AZ 85027 ), IN THE AFTERNOON, TO HAVE THE LATCH LOOKED AT, AND CONFIRM MY CONCLUSION THAT IT HAD FAILED. THE INSPECTOR AGREED ( COMMENTING THAT THIS FAILURE WAS "VERY RARE" ). AT THIS POINT, I MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE LATCH REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT, TO BE DONE ON 11/13/15. THE DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED. A COPY OF THE REPAIR ORDER IS INCLUDED. THE FAILED REAR DOOR LATCH WAS RETURNED TO ME, AND I WILL STORE IT, IN THE EVENT THAT THE NHTSA WOULD WANT IT / NEED IT, TO PERFORM A FAILURE ANALYSIS.
WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 45 MILES PER HOUR , ALL OF A SUDDEN IN THE DIC A ESC ACTIVE STARTED FLASHING AND MY CAR START LOSING SPEED AND IT FELT LIKE THE TRACTION KICKED IN. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED DOWN TO MAKE SURE IT HAD NOT JUMPED OUT OF GEAR. IT WAS IN THE CORRECT GEAR. THE ESC ACTIVE WENT AWAY AFTER ABOUT 45 SECONDS, AND ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN AND I HAD TO PUT ON MU EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. BY THE TIME I GOT IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD , THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO LOCK UP AND IT ACT LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO STOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. BY THIS TIME THE SPEED HAD DROPPED TO ABOUT 15 MILES PER HOUR. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WHEN THIS HAPPEN WAS DRY , AND THE TIRES AND THE BRAKES ON MY CAR WAS IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. ONCE IT WAS TOWED TO MY HOUSE I DROVE IT AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD ABOUT 5 TIMES AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I AM TOO SCARED TO DO IN HIGHWAY DRIVING OF THIS CAR, BECAUSE IF IT HAPPENS WHILE I AM ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING I COULD POSSIBILITY BE IN A ACCIDENT IF THIS HAPPENS. I HAVE READ OTHER REVIEWS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING , BUT HAVE NOT GOT ANY REASONS TO WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. THE CAR HAS ROUGHLY 87570 MILES ON IT. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE CHEVROLET PEOPLE TOMORROW, BEFORE I TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP.
IN COLDER TEMPERATURES MY CAR SPUTTERS WHEN ACCELERATING AND RPMS JUMP QUICKLY FROM 2 TO 3 AND THEN BACK DOWN. IN ADDITION, THE RADIO MAY TURN OFF, ALL DASH GAUGES (FUEL, SPEED, RPMS) GO TO 0, VARIOUS SERVICE LIGHTS COME ON (NOT ALWAYS THE SAME) AND THEN EVERYTHING GOES BACK TO NORMAL. CAR WORKS FINE IN WARMER TEMPERATURES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2013 AND WHEN PLUGGED IN THERE WERE REPORTS IF 20 THINGS WRONG AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND SAID IT WOULD COST THOUSAND TO CHECK ALL OF THE ISSUES BEING REPORTED. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ALTHOUGH THEY WERE VERY NICE THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO HELP DETERMINE WHAT THE ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE WAS. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SERVICE PLACE AND WHILE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE ULTIMATE PROBLEM THEY PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE ON ALL MY ELECTRONIC CONNECTIONS IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD AND IT WORKED FINE THE REST IF THE WINTER. THEY SAID IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT I CAME IN WHEN I DID BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IF I DROVE IT ANY LONGER I WOULD HAVE DESTROYED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. IN 2014, I HAD THEM DO THE SAME "FIX". NOW IN 2015 IT HAS STARTED BACK UP AGAIN.

I PURCHASE CHEVY HHR IN GOOD CONDITIONS UNTIL I GOT ON THE FREEWAY. AS I WAS IMMERGING IN TO THE FREEWAY THE ACCELORATOR GOT STUCK ON 6RPM AND WAS SPEEDING 60MPH I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE BRAKES DIDNT GO DOWN AT ALL. IT WAS ALL LOCKED UP MY KIDS AND I FREAK OUT WITH THE SPEED THAT THE CAR WAS PICKING UP AND HOW THE BREAKS WERENT WORKING I DECIDED TO USE THE EMERGENCY HANDDLE AND SOME SIDE BUSHES TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR AND NOTHING WORKED! I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AND NOTHING THEN I CHECKED TO SEE IF IT WAS ON DRIVE IT WAS THE I PUSHED HARD ON THE BREAKS BUT NEVER ONCE IT WENT DOWN AT ALL IT WAS SO HARD I FORCE MY FOOT SO MUCH AND THE BREAK HANDDLE EMERGED OFF THE FREEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY HIT SOMETHING MORE SOLID TO STOP THE CAR. IT WAS THEN WE HEADED TO A BUILDING BUT I HIT A PALM TREE. THE CAR EXPLODED BLACK SMOKE AND THE AIREBAGS WENT OFF THE FRONT DOOR DIDNT OPEN AND MY DAUGHTER AND I JUMP OFF THROUGH THE SMALL LITTLE WINDOWS. WE THANK GOD WE ARE ALIVE!! MY TWO KIDS 11 AND 8 COULD HAVE DIED W ME IN THAT VEHICLE IF I DIDNT EXIT THE FREEWAY BEFORE THE CAR KEPT PICKING UP SPEED. WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. I WOULD NEVER EVER RIDE A CHEVY HHR OR ANY OTHER CHEVY AS I LIVE. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED IN THE FRONT AND THE WINDOWS ARE CRACKED.

UPON TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE COMPUTER RESET AND THE WARNING LIGHTS DIMMED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

IN JAN 2015 THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT CAME ON 2 TIMES. WALKER JONES CHEVY OF WAYCROSS, GA DETECTED NO CODE FOR AIR BAG. THE ANTI-THEFT CODE REVEALED UNRECOGNIZED KEY BUT NO CODE TO REPAIR (JAN.2015) THE LIGHT HAS COME ON 5 TIMES AND NOT STARTED ON ONE OCCASION, SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR. I AM TOLD BY MECHANICS THAT THE LIGHT MUST BE ON FOR THEM TO RETRIEVE A REPAIR CODE. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF THE LIGHT GOES OFF. THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT PROBLEM CAN WAIT MONTHS BEFORE SURFACING AGAIN. I BELIEVE IT COULD BE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF PAST CASES OF OTHER SIMILAR CARS WITH ANTI-THEFT/AIRBAG ISSUES. I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY RIGHT FRONT END SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. WHEN I CUT THE WHEEL HARD TO THE RIGHT, IT MAKES A LOUD THUMPING NOISE LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING TO POP OFF. IT MAKES THE MOST NOISE IN A SLOW OR PARKING MOVEMENT. THEN I TAKE IT IN AND THEY PUMP UP THE TIRES WITH AIR, AND SAY THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THEN THE AIR LOW LIGHT FOR THE TIRES COMES ON. YOU FILL IT UP, AND THEN ANOTHER ONE COMES ON. THEN CHECK THE AIR BAG POPS ON. I'VE EVEN EXPERIENCED THE CAR LITERALLY FEELING LIKE THE MOTOR IDLING REAL LOW TO ALMOST SHUT OFF. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM BUT HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THEM. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE DUE TO POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL OF CAR AND CAUSING A CRASH. ALSO A POSSIBLE FIRE DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SHORT THEY DESCRIBED TO ME ON THE INVOICE. DRIVER ARMREST SAGS; MOST UNCOMFORTABLE!! WHEN ARMREST IS PUT DOWN TO THE HORIZONTAL POSITION, IT SAGS (LEANS FORWARD). DRIVER'S RIGHT ARM BECOMES PAINFUL, AS IT IS CONTINUALLY SLIDING OFF THE FRONT EDGE OF THE ARMREST, WHEN DRIVING. I'VE HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALER; HE REPLACED THE ARMREST IN WARRANTY, BUT THE LEANING FORWARD POSITION IS JUST THE SAME---IT WAS NOT CURED. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING FURTHER TO BE DONE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHENEVER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONSISTED OF RECALIBRATING THE STEERING SENSOR AND REPLACING THE YAW SENSOR. THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODEL WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. LAST JUNE, MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2011 HHR IN ORDER TO PROVIDE A SAFER, MORE DEPENDABLE VEHICLE FOR OUR TEENAGE DAUGHTERS TO LEARN TO DRIVE AND TO HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO TAKE OUR DOGS WITH US WHEN WE WANTED TO GO SOMEWHERE AS A FAMILY. IN JANUARY, ON ONE OF THE DAYS WE ACTUALLY HAD SNOW ON THE GROUND, I CAME TO AN INTERSECTION, TRIED TO STOP, COULDN'T, AND SLID THROUGH. A CAR IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION MADE A LEFT TURN, NOT REALIZING I COULDN'T STOP, HIT ME ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE HHR, TURNING ME 90 DEGREES FROM THE DIRECTION I WAS GOING AND CAUSING OVER $8,000 OF DAMAGE TO THE CAR. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. WHEN I GOT HOME, THE FIRST THING MY WIFE ASKED WAS, DID I GET TO SEE WHAT MY AIRBAG LOOKED LIKE? I REALIZED MY AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. WHY? ALSO, WHY DIDN'T THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES STOP THE CAR, OR AT LEAST SLOW IT DOWN? AFTER REPEATED COMPLAINTS, THE DEALER DID FINALLY GET A REPRESENTATIVE FROM GM TO LOOK INTO IT, PULL THE BLACK BOX AND SEE IF WE HAD A REAL ISSUE. THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 18, AND ON MARCH 9TH, I FINALLY GOT A FORM LETTER FROM ESIS/GM BASICALLY CLAIMING THE CAR PERFORMED AS IT SHOULD. THE LETTER ALSO STATED I SHOULD KEEP THE CAR IN AN UN-REPAIRED CONDITION UNTIL THE DISPUTE IS RESOLVED. A DAY BEFORE I GOT THE LETTER, THE DEALER CALLED TO TELL ME THE REPAIRS ON THE CAR WERE ALMOST DONE. THEY KNEW WE WERE DISPUTING IT AND FIXED THE CAR ANYWAY. GM STATED I WOULD HAVE HAD TO STEP ON THE BRAKES SEVEN SECONDS FROM THE LIGHT IN ORDER TO STOP IN TIME. AT 30 MPH, WHICH IS THE SPEED I WAS TRAVELING AT, I WOULD TRAVEL 616 FEET IN 7 SECONDS, THAT'S TWO FOOTBALL FIELDS. AT THAT DISTANCE THE LIGHT WAS STILL GREEN. I HAVE WRITTEN LOCAL LAWMAKERS, MY CONGRESSMAN, AND THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL ON THIS MATTER. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKES AND AIRBAGS. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY FOUND THE ALIGNMENT WAS OUT OF SPECIFICATION. THE REPAIR WAS MADE. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE ALIGNED SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, THE LEFT FRONT TIRE SENSOR WAS NOT READING THE TIRE PRESSURE AND THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE GEAR SHIFT OR AXLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETECT A NOISE. UPDATED 04/10/12

THE CONTACT MOMENTARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, VEERED TO THE RIGHT ACROSS THE ROADWAY, AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL, WHICH CAUSED THE SIDE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED HOME BY THE POLICE, WHERE IT WAS AWAITING AN INSPECTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
