I purchased my Suburban used in July 2018. In 2019 I realized the pretensioner for the driver's seatbelt doesn't work. I have asked my dealership if they could ask Chevy to pay for this repair, but they said they have to wait for the official recall. In my research, I have learned of other Chevy vehicles (Traverse & Malibu) in 2011 with the same problem. I have not contacted Chevrolet directly with this problem (yet). The flexible steel steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time.

The dash has broken apart on the top in front of the driver. It constantly vibrates and makes a loud distracting noise. There is no way to stop this noise and it causes the driver to constantly hold the broken part down with their hand taking their attention off the road. Our Chevrolet dealer inspected it and said they've had lots of similar complaints. He also said it would cost us $2,000 to fix the problem.

EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON GM VEHICLES AND IT AFFECTS BOTH MY 2011 SUBURBAN AND 2012 SILVERADO WITH 5.3 FLEX FUEL ENGINES. THE SUBURBAN IS MORE NOTICEABLE SINCE WE USE IT FOR LONG ROAD TRIPS. THE TRUCK IS MOSTLY CITY DRIVING. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE CAUSED BY THE AFM AND PCV. I WILL BE INSTALLING THE UPGRADED VALVE COVER IN HOPES OF PREVENTING A MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE IN THE FUTURE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF GM RECALLED THESE ENGINES WITH AN ADEQUATE FIX. THEY REPLACED PURGE VALVE BECAUSE THEY SAID OTHER MECHANICS USED NON CHEVY PARTS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. CHEVY DID SMOKE TEST AND SWORE IT WAS THE FUEL SENSOR COST $1200+. ENGINE LIGHT BACK ON AFTER A WEEK. ANOTHER SMOKE TEST AND NOW PRESSURE TEST BLEW A SMALL SECTION OF FUEL TANK WHERE IT NOW LEAKS. CHEVY SAID THE SEAL MOST LIKELY NOT SEATED PROPERLY AND I NEED A NEW FUEL TANK ABOUT $1000. BUT THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE LIGHT. I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER $1000 ESPECIALLY IF THIS DOESNT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. ALREADY SPENT THOUSANDS FIXING DIFFERENT PARTS. IN EARLY 2018, WE NOTICED A VERY SMALL CRACK IN THE DASHBOARD JUST ABOVE THE STEERING COLUMN COWLING AND DISCUSSED SAME WITH OUR DEALERSHIP. WE WERE TOLD THEY'D CALLED GM AND THEN ADVISED US THAT WE'D NEED TO PAY $800 AND THEY'D PICK UP THE REST. KNOWING THIS WAS NOT OUR FAULT AND HAD TO BE A DEFECT, WE REFUSED AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. SINCE THAT TIME, THE CRACK HAS NOW RUN TO BE SEVERAL INCHES LONG. THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD IS A SAFETY RISK. GM HAS KNOWLEDGE OF THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARDS AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. GM HAD DEFRAUDED THEIR CUSTOMERS WITH UNFAIR AND DECEPTIVE CONDUCT AND HAS CONTINUED TO SELL/REPLACE DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS.

EITHER WAY THE ISSUE BEGAN WHILE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AS HAD BEEN DEALING WITH DEALER FOR 2 YEARS WHEN ISSUE BEGAN TO THE DATE ENGINE BLEW. HAD DEALER PUT BACK TOGETHER TO TAKE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR 2ND OPINION AND THEY ALSO SAID IT'S BEEN A KNOW ISSUE WITH THE SUBURBAN FROM 2007-2011 BUT IS NOT A RECALL AS OF YET - I WANT MY MONEY BACK, I SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE "SEE IF THIS WORKS PART", THE BOTTOM HALF OF ENGINE TO BE REBUILT, & THEN A NEW ENGINE WHEN GM & DEALERSHIPS KNOW THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR 4 YEARS!!!! FUEL LEAK HAS DEVELOPED BETWEEN TWO FUEL LINES THAT HAVE BEEN RUBBING TOGETHER FROM THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE UNTIL 4/23/18. THIS LEAK DEVELOPED LESS THAN INCHES FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM ON THE BRADED LINE PORTION OF THE FUEL LINES NEAR THE CONNECTIONS AT THE FUEL TANK END. THE ISSUE WAS NOTICED AS I WAS DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC ON 395 NORTH IN WASHINGTON DC THROUGH THE 3RD ST. TUNNEL. THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS DETECTED, BUT THOUGHT TO BE COMING FROM ELSEWHERE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ANOTHER MILE BEFORE I REALIZED THE SOURCE WAS MY VEHICLE. WHEN I PARKED IT I NOTICED FUEL POOLING UNDER IT AT THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER. AFTER IT COOLED, I WENT UNDER IT AND DISCOVERED TO CAUSE OF THE LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED HOME VIA AAA. THE MILEAGE AT THE MOMENT CANNOT BE OBTAINED BECAUSE THE DASH IS DIGITAL WHICH CAUSES THE FUEL SYSTEM TO ENERGIZE AND SPRAY FUEL WHEN TURNED ON.

WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK ON INTERSTATE 15, NORTHBOUND ON FEBRUARY 1, 2017, WITH MY TWO SONS IN THE VEHICLE, I SMELLED SMOKE. I PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE AND REALIZED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS ON FIRE (PICTURES ATTACHED). I NOTICED THE SWITCH FOR THE HEATED SEAT WAS ON, SO I TURNED IT OFF. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN BUTTE, MT (APPROX. 15 MILES) AND HAD THEM DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL TO THE SEAT AND ENSURE IT WAS NOT STILL BURNING. THIS DISABLED THE POWER SEAT, SEAT HEATER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAGS. I CONTACTED GM PRODUCT SERVICES TO INFORM THEM AND THEY STARTED A SERVICE REQUEST, NUMBER 8-2712194856. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN DILLON, MT WHERE I LIVE FOR INSPECTION. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP FINISHED THE INSPECTION AND SENT THEIR FINDINGS TO GM PRODUCT SERVICES I WAS INFORMED BY THE CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP SPECIALIST AT GM THAT THEY HAD COMPLETED THEIR INVESTIGATION AND CLOSED THE CASE ON MY "PRODUCT ALLEGATION", CONCLUDING IT WAS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" THAT CAUSED THE SEAT TO CATCH FIRE AND THAT GM WOULD NOT PAY FOR ANY REPAIR OR DAMAGES. WHEN I ASKED HOW TO PROCEED WITH APPEAL OF THEIR DECISION, I WAS INFORMED THEIR DECISION WAS FINAL AND NON-APPEALABLE. I REQUESTED WRITTEN RECORD OF THEIR FINDINGS TO WHICH THEY SENT THE ATTACHED LETTER STATING THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY AND SUGGESTED I RESOLVE THE MATTER WITH MY INSURANCE CARRIER. THEIR LETTER STATED NOTHING SPECIFIC OF THEIR FINDINGS DURING THE INSPECTION. I REQUESTED INFO FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT DID THE INSPECTION AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT RELEASE THAT INFORMATION WITHOUT CONSENT FROM GM. MY INSURANCE CARRIER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DOCUMENTED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.

THE VEHICLE IS ALWAYS PARKED IN A GARAGE AND NOW ONLY HAS 58,000 MILES ON IT (ALMOST 5 YEARS OLD). THIS CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN THE EVENT OF AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. PIECES OF THE DASH COULD BECOME DEADLY WEAPONS IN THE EVENT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY. I AM A VERY EXPERIENCED DRIVER WITH THIS COMBINATION OF TOW VEHICLE, TRAVEL TRAILER, AND HITCH CONFIGURATION. THE ONSET AND MAGNITUDE OF THE SWAY (VIOLENT) CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL AS WE WERE GOING 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. I HAVE TOWED THIS SAME CONFIGURATION FOR TENS OF THOUSANDS OF MILES WITH NO INSTANCES OF PROBLEMS. SOMETHING DRASTIC HAPPENED! I WAS PASSING A SLOW MOVING CAR , SO WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE HEADING SOUTH WHEN I STARTED TO SWAY. I REACHED FOR THE BRAKE CONTROLLER IN AN ATTEMPT TO APPLY THE TRAILER BRAKES. THE SWAY DRASTICALLY ACCELERATED TO THE EXTENT I WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE BRAKE CONTROLLER DUE TO THE VIOLENT MOTION. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, MY VEHICLE CAME TO REST AGAINST THE GUARDRAIL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY (HEADING NORTH) WITH THE TRAILER JACKNIFED/PERPENDICULAR TO THE GUARDRAIL SUCH THAT I WAS BLOCKING BOTH LANES OF THE HIGHWAY. I EXAMINED THE HITCH AND TRAILER COUPLING AND ALL SEEMED NORMAL EXCEPT FOR DAMAGE FROM THE CRASH. THE HITCH FRAME OF THE SUBURBAN WAS TORN AND TOTALLY RIPPED FROM THE VEHICLE ON ONE SIDE.

IN LESS THAN 5 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP IT DEVELOPED THIS CRACK WHILE STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTEE. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER WITH ALL MY PAPERWORK AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED, NOR WOULD THEY REPLACE IT. THIS CRACK HAS DEVELOPED DUE TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN FROM NEGLECT, EXCESS WEAR AND TEAR, EXCESS SUNLIGHT OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN MANUFACTURE FLAW. THIS CRACK HAS CONTINUED TO SPREAD AND DUE TO THE THIN AND SHARP NATURE OF THE PLASTIC, IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, THIS WOULD SPLINTER AND ACT LIKE SHRAPNEL WITHIN THE CABIN. ALSO, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE INOPERATIVE, AS WELL AS THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER. THE DEALER FOUND NO POWER OPEN CIRCUIT AT THE CONNECTOR AND ALLEGEDLY REPAIRED THE WIRING TO THE WIPER HARNESS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR THE REPAIRS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE AND NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CONTACT ALSO EXPERIENCED RAPID ACCELERATION FAILURE WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TEN TIMES YET THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED EACH TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DEPRESS THE BRAKE LIGHTLY. JUST AS THE VEHICLE STARTS TO SLOW DOWN YOU WILL FEEL THE ACCELERATION OF THE ENGINE AS IF THE VEHICLE IS ATTEMPTING TO MAINTAIN THE 15 MILE PER HOUR PREVIOUS SPEED.
