Summary

I had the dealership fix a recall (N9C07) for the passenger seat wiring harness connector for the passenger side airbag a while back. My airbag warning lamp turned on recently and my mechanic told me it was that same issue that the recall was supposed to fix. I was told by the dealer that since this was replaced once already, they refused to replace it again. This is a major safety concern if the passenger side airbag does not deploy correctly. It is outrageous that their part is malfunctioning at no fault of my own and they refuse to fix it.

THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THIS VEHICLE GOES TO THE FLOOR WHEN BRAKING ON GRAVEL ROADS. IT RETURNS FUNCTIONING AFTER PUMPING THE PEDAL. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP IN LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ HAS HAD THE VEHICLE TWICE FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND LAST WEEK TOLD US THAT THESE VEHICLES SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN ON DIRT ROADS BECAUSE THE DUST GETS ON THE ABS SENSOR AND CAN CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON THIS SAME ROAD FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAS JUST STARTED DOING THIS IN THE LAST YEAR. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO THEY ARE SAYING THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I PAID THEM TO CHANGE THE MASTER CYLINDER ON THE FIRST VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS CAUSED BY THE MASTER CYLINDER IN THE PAST. OF COURSE THIS WAS BEFORE ABS AND CARS BECOMING SO COMPLICATED THAT I CAN NO LONGER WORK ON THEM. CHANGING THE MASTER CYLINDER DID HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT CURE IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I AM CONCERNED THAT DODGE HAS NOT TAKEN THIS PROBLEM AS SERIOUSLY AS THEY SHOULD. THE FIRST CASE NUMBER THAT DODGE GAVE ME WAS 79023033. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO SEND A TECHNICIAN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HELP, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THAT HAPPENED. THE SECOND CASE NUMBER IS 79309555. THEY SAID WE COULD TAKE IT TO OTHER DEALERSHIPS FOR A SECOND OPINION AT OUR EXPENSE WHICH OF COURSE WILL BE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE.

THE AUXILIARY FUEL PUMP MODULE DEVELOPED A CRACK AND STARTED LEAKING A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL. THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK HAD A LARGE PUDDLE OF FUEL AND IT WAS RUNNING DOWN ALL SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK AND ON TO THE GROUND. THIS IS A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. ALSO THERE ARE ACCESS PANELS UNDER THE BACK SEAT AREA OF THE CAR TO REPLACE THE PUMP MODULES. FUMES FROM THE FUEL ENTERED THE CAR FROM THOSE ACCESS POINTS AND MADE IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BE INSIDE THE CAR. I FIRST NOTICED THE SMELL AFTER FILLING THE THE FUEL TANK AND WHEN I GOT HOME I NOTICED THE FUEL RUNNING OUT ON TO MY DRIVEWAY.

SEE RECALL BELOW CHRYSLER ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING THAT IT WILL BE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON 3.6-LITER PENTASTAR V-6 ENGINES IN CERTAIN 2011-2013 VEHICLES DUE TO CRACKED CYLINDER HEADS ON EARLY VERSIONS OF THE ENGINE ACCORDING TO AUTOMOTIVE NEWS, ROUGHLY 7500 ENGINES BUILT AS THE PENTASTAR V-6 WAS FIRST COMING OUT IN 2012, WERE FOUND TO BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO LEFT-CYLINDER HEAD CRACKS, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE. CHRYSLER FIRST DISCOVERED THE ISSUE WHEN CUSTOMERS BEGAN COMPLAINING THAT THEIR VEHICLES WERE MAKING TICKING NOISES, STALLING, OR THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS INEXPLICABLY DISPLAYING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE 3.6-LITER PENTASTAR V-6 COMES WITH A 5-YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY, WHICH CHRYSLER WILL BE EXTENDING TO 10-YEARS/150,000 MILES ON THE LEFT-CYLINDER HEAD. THE CRACKED LEFT-CYLINDER HEAD ISSUE POTENTIALLY AFFECTS ABOUT 0.5-PERCENT OF VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 3.6-LITER V-6. CHRYSLER DETERMINED THAT SUBPAR FUEL ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF DRIVING CONDITIONS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ISSUE. A DESIGN MODIFICATION IN LATE 2012 HAS REPORTEDLY FIXED THE ISSUE IN NEWER VEHICLES. THE 3.6-LITER V-6, THE FIRST OF THE PENTASTAR FAMILY THAT NOW INCLUDES A 3.2-LITER VERSION, COMES STANDARD IN NUMEROUS CHRYSLER VEHICLES. THE 3.6-LITER PENTASTAR IS STANDARD ON THE: CHRYSLER 300, DODGE CHALLENGER, DODGE CHARGER, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, JEEP WRANGLER, RAM 1500, AND RAM PROMASTER. I JUMPSTARTED MY CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO MY DESTINATION WHICH WAS NEARBY AND I PARKED AND TURNED OFF MY CAR. AS SOON AS I TRIED TURNING IT ON MY BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. I CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A JUMP AND WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR GOING BUT AS SOON AS I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL MY CAR SEEMED TO HAVE A SHORT WHICH CAUSED ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TO GO AND MY CAR TO TURN OFF AND KILL MY BATTERY. READING HOW MANY OTHER DODGE OWNERS HAVE GONE THROUGH VERY SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND BEEN FORTUNATE TO AVOID GETTING HURT OR HURTING OTHER DRIVERS. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO A BIT MORE SINCE IT SEEMS TO BE MORE COMMON AND SHOULD NOT BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. IVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH MY CHALLENGER TO THIS POINT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND A PERSON IS SITTING IN THE SEAT, IT FLASHES THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT THE AIRBAG IS NOT OPERABLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED AND BEEN REPAIRED AT LEAST TWICE BEFORE IF NOT THREE TIMES, AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON YET GAIN THIS MORNING. I HAVE HAD REPAIRS ON THIS SAME SYSTEM ALONE TWICE SINCE NOVEMBER 2015, AND HERE WE HAVE YET A THIRD FAILURE OF THE EXACT SAME SYSTEM, EXACT SAME PART, EXACT SOME COUPLER, WITHIN 6 OR 7 MONTHS. I ASKED LAST TIME THEY FIXED IT THAT THEY USE A HEAT GUN AND SHRINK WRAP ON THE FITTING TO PREVENT THIS HAPPENING AGAIN AND APPARENTLY THEY DID NOT. OF COURSE, DODGE SHOULD NOT HAVE DESIGNED A CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT IN A WAY THAT ALLOWS SIMPLE DUST OR GRIME TO GET INTO IT AND FOUL THE SYSTEM, RENDERING AN AIRBAG INOPERABLE. I NOTICED A RECALL FOR CERTAIN 2011-2012 DODGE CHALLENGERS BUILT BETWEEN APRIL 11, 2011 THROUGH DECEMBER 14, 2011 REGARDING THE "SEAT WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS" (RECALL #N07/ NHTSA 13V-118). I CONTACTED THE FCA RECALL CENTER FOR CHRYSLER/ DODGE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE MY CHALLENGER WAS BUILT ON MARCH 23, 2011. MY CHALLENGER WAS BUILT TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE "AFFECTED" BUILD DATES AND HAVE THE SAME EXACT CONNECTORS SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. WHY WOULDN'T MY VEHICLE'S SEAT WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS BE CONSIDERED DEFECTIVE?? I WORK AS A FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND AM CURRENTLY DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK TO DEFEND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FROM ANY AND ALL THREATS BUT IF I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT, I'M NOT SAFE IN MY OWN VEHICLE, WHICH WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE USA.

AS I AM OUT OF WARRANTY, AND AWARE OF A RECALL ON ALTERNATORS IN CERTAIN 2011 CHRYSLER VEHICLES I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY TOOK AN INCIDENT REPORT AND CONCEDED TO ME THAT ALTHOUGH THE ALTERNATOR IS THE SAME MANUFACTURER, VOLTAGE, MODEL AND PART NUMBER THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE OPEN RECALL BECAUSE MY ENGINE IS THE V8 5.7 LITER AND NOT THE V6 MODEL. I AM WORRIED THE DEALER WILL ALSO FAIL TO HONOR THE RECALL AND NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL MONTHS PRIOR AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK ON A LOUD WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I APPROACHED DODGE ON MORE THAN 4 OCCASIONS TO RECOVER THE COST OF REPAIRS WHICH WERE $1,736.05. I HAVE BEEN REFUSED EACH TIME. THEY ARE AWARE THAT THE TANK IS DEFECTIVE AS I HAVE SENT DOCUMENTATION AND PICTURES TO SHOW THEM. I HAVE ASKED FOR THE NAME OF THE VENDER WHO MADE THE TANK AND HAVE BEEN REFUSED. MY 2011 DODGE CHALLENGER WAS IN A HEAD ON ACCIDENT. THE IMPACT PUSH THE MOTOR UNDER THE DASH, CRACKED THE TRANSMISSION, CRUMBLED THE FRONT OF THE CAR ALMOST TO THE WINDSHIELD. THE CHALLENGER HAS AN AIR BAG ON THE SEAT, WELL THAT AIR BAG; NOR THE AIR BAG ON THE WINDSHIELD PILLAR OR THE STEERING WHEEL OR PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOY. NOT ONLY DID THE AIR BAGS FAIL, BUT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK TO RESTRAIN A PERSON FROM AVOIDING INJURY. THIS IS MY SECOND CHALLENGER, MY FIRST CHALLENGER HAD A BAD PAINT JOB AND THIS ONE COULD OF COST ME MY LIFE. I HAVE THE VEHICLE, AWAITING FOR DODGE TO INSPECTION THE DEFECTS. THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WERE AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN. IT IS THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DEPLOY AIRBAG. THIS CAN BE TURNED OFF BY WIGGLING A WIRE AND CONNECTOR UNDER THE REAR OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE LIGHT AND DISABLING OF THE AIRBAG HAPPEN AT RANDOM TIMES AND ANY TIME YOU INCREASE SPEED QUICKLY (IE. FREEWAY ON RAMPS). THIS IS AGAIN REMEDIED BY A GIGGLING THE WIRES AND CONNECTOR BEHIND AND UNDER THE DRIVER. I CAN DISABLE THE AIRBAG ANYTIME BY WIGGLING THE WIRE UNDER THE SEAT, IF DRIVING PRIOR TO THE INDICATOR COMING ON. I DRIVE A 2011 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT-8. IT HAS ONLY 300 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING IT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN OFF THE EXIT. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLES ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL POWER ALL SHUTDOWN. LUCKILY THE CAR BEHIND ME SWERVED OUT OF THE WAY OR WE BOTH SURELY WOULD OF DIED. I COULD NOT EVEN PULL OVER. ONCE I PUT IT IN PARK I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT. I CHECKED ONLINE AND SEVERAL WEBSITES LIST THIS VERY SAME COMPLAINT. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE "UNAWARE" OF THE ISSUE AND CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.
