ON 9.19.2019 MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING AND THE ENGINE STALLED 3 TIMES WHILE DRIVING. IT STARTED EVERY TIME WITHOUT PROBLEMS, IT DID NOT STALL AGAIN ON THE RETURN TRIP. THE TRIP WAS ABOUT 50 MILES EACH WAY. OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS I HAD ENGINE STARTING PROBLEMS 5 TIMES, MOSTLY ON HOT DAYS AND WHEN STOPPING FOR A SHORT PERIOD, E.G. STOPPING FOR GAS, AFTER WAITING FOR +- 10 MINUTES THE ENGINE STARTED NORMALLY. THE 'ENGINE CHECK' LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING REPAIR INFORMATION.
ON THREE (3) DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IN 2018 THE ENGINE OF MY AZERA, WITH A LITTLE OVER 21,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, SUDDENLY STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED VALLEJO HYUNDAI TO LOOK AT IT AND DO THE NECESSARY REPAIRS BUT I WAS GOING TO BE CHARGED FOR IT AND I REFUSED TO PAY. EVENTUALLY, I ACCEDED TO THEIR DEMAND FOR PAYMENT. IT
NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 18V-026 SAYS THE AZERA ABS ELECTRONICS CAN COLLECT WATER AND SHORT OUT CAUSING A FIRE WHILE THE CAR IS IN A GARAGE OR NOT BEING USED. BUT FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONICS BECAUSE OF WATER LEAKING INTO THE SYSTEM ALSO AFFECTS THE OPERATION OF THE ABS WHERE IT CANNOT WORK WHEN NEEDED. THE RECALL ADDRESSES REWIRING THE ABS SO NO POWER IS PRESENT IN THE WATER LEAKING ABS MODULE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT OPERATING AND PARKED BUT DOES NOT ADDRESS FAILURE OF THE ABS WITHOUT FIRE FROM WATER LEAKAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. HYUNDAI SHOULD REPLACE ALL AZERA ABS SYSTEMS THAT ARE PRONE TO WATER LEAKAGE TO PRECLUDE THE ABS SYSTEMS NOT WORKING PROPERLY IN AND DURING BRAKING EMERGENCIES. UNATTENDED VEHICLE FIRES ARE ONE THING, ABS FAILURE TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED BECAUSE OF WATER LEAKAGE DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING RISKS MY LIFE AND THOSE OF OTHERS. THE FAULTY COMPONENTS SHOULD BE REPLACED TO PRECLUDE ABS FAILURES WHEN EMERGENCY ABS BRAKING IS NEEDED.
2011 AZERA LIMITED. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.*JS
CONNECTING ROD BEARING FAILURE AT 42,200 MILES RENDERING VEHICLE IMMOBILE AND PRESENTING A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZZARD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PLENTY OF ENGINE OIL, PROPER MAINTENANCE TOO. APPEARS TO BE IMPROPER DESIGN AND/OR IMPROPER MANUFACTURING AND ASSEMBLY. MAY BE RELATED TO HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0 AND 2.4 ENGINE FAILURES RECENTLY ANNOUNCED BY HYUNDAI.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI AZERA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKES ALSO STOPPED OPERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOB BOSS HYUNDAI IN GLEN BURNIE, MD, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI AZERA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S STARTER FAILED TO START THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR POSITION INDICATOR WOULD DISPLAY THE INCORRECT GEAR POSITION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE STEVENSON HYUNDAI OF LONGMOUNT WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE FLUSHED AND THE SENSOR THAT COMMUNICATED TO THE ENGINE WHERE THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT NOTHING RESULTED FROM THE ENCOUNTER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
ON 03/02/16 - I WAS DRIVING ON GEORGE 400 EXPRESSWAY AND I SLOWED DOWN TO TAKE AN EXIT AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER; THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. I HAD TO ROLL TO THE SHOULDER AND TURN MY FLASHERS ON. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND IT STARTED BACK UP. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A SAFE LOCATION. THIS ALSO OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY (I-285). I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING EXPLANATION AS TO WHY IT LOST POWER. THIS CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I DRIVE A LOT ON THE FREEWAY AND TO BE DRIVING 55-70 MPH AND TO LOSE POWER FOR NO REASON IS QUITE FRIGHTENING. I LOVE MY VEHICLE, BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT COULD EASILY OCCUR WHEN MY DAUGHTER, A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER, IS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS AND HOW CAN IT BE RECTIFIED? NOTE THAT THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED, I HAD A LOT LESS MILES ON MY VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING UP TO A BUSY INTERSECTION WHERE THERE WAS A RED LIGHT. I WAS JUST STARTING TO BRAKE WHEN MY STEERING GOT STIFF AND MY CAR WASN'T FOLLOWING THE CURVE OF THE STREET. I LOOKED AT THE DASH AND ALL MY LIGHTS WERE ON. MY CAR HAD TURNED OFF. I DIDN'T KNOW IF I WAS TOO LOW ON GAS BUT THE GAS LIGHT WASN'T ON. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED THE IGNITION, WHICH STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. I PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION AND FILLED UP THE TANK. I DIDN'T HAVE ANOTHER ISSUE UNTIL TODAY, 9-9-15, WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SLIGHT HILL GOING ABOUT 40 GETTING READY TO GET INTO THE TURN LANE WHEN AGAIN THE STEERING GOT STIFF AND I LOOKED DOWN AND REALIZED ALL MY LIGHTS ON THE DASH WERE ON. I HAD HALF A TANK OF GAS AT THE TIME...BOTH TIMES I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO RESTART IT WITHOUT A PROBLEM. BOTH TIMES HAVE BEEN ON BUSY STREETS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR.... THIS IS AN ISSUE!! I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT LAST YEAR AND SINCE THEY WERE CLOSE TO CLOSING ENDED UP NOT HELPING ME. I WILL CALL THEM AGAIN TOMORROW TO FIND OUT WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON....
08/25/2015 I WAS TRAVELING 30 MPH, WHILE SLOWING FOR A RED LIGHT THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN WAS ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY. ONE WEEK LATER WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH SLOWING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ENGINE SHUT-DOWN AGAIN, LOSING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI AZERA. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED, VIBRATED, AND FAILED TO SHIFT PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME AUTHORIZED DEALER TWICE AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MORE THAN TWO OTHER AUTHORIZED DEALERS WHO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
WHILE TRAVELING ~ 45 MPH AND SLOWING APPROACHING A CURVE AND STOP SIGN, ENGINE SHUTDOWN COMPLETELY LOSING POWER ASSIST FOR STEERING AND BRAKES PLUS ENGINE POWER. STEERED CAR WITHOUT POWER ASSIST AND APPLIED UN-POWERED ASSISTED BRAKES TO STOP SHORT OF STOP SIGN. CAR RESTARTED WITHOUT DIFFICULTY. THIS WAS A SECOND OCCURRENCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI AZERA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE CHECK ENGINE, NO KEY, AND BATTERY WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI AZERA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,800.
WHILE IDLING AT A RED LIGHT, CAR STALLED OUT. STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. THEN GOT ONTO PARKWAY AND TRAVELED ABOUT 5 MINUTES ON THE PARKWAY AND SLOWED A BIT TO EXIT ONTO THE RAMP, THEN ACCELERATED TO ABOUT 40-45 TO CONTINUE AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT THAT SPEED. WE SLOWED AND PULLED OVER, STOPPED THE CAR AND RESTARTED THE CAR WITHOUT A PROBLEM. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY AND WE HAD THE RADIO AND AIR CONDITIONING ON. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO HYUNDAI TO CHECK AND THEY COULDN'T FIND WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID WHEN THE RADIO AND A/C ARE BEING USED, TURN OFF THE "ECO" SETTING OFF. (A CO-WORKER MENTIONED THAT IT SOUNDS AS IF THERE WASN'T ENOUGH FUEL BEING INJECTED TO KEEP THE CAR GOING.)
ENGINE STALLS, INTERMITTENTLY WHEN TAKING FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR. TWICE WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH, SEVERAL TIMES UNDER 25 MPH WHILE SLOWING DOWN FOR A TURN OR STOP SIGN. LOSES POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. NORMALLY CAR ACTS FINE BUT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH (MORE FREQUENTLY NOW) CAR WILL HAVE A BAD DAY AND STALLS SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DAY, (AND THEN ACTS FINE FOR A FEW DAYS/WEEKS BEFORE HAVING ANOTHER BAD DAY). CAR STARTS RIGHT BACK UP AFTER STOPPING VEHICLE. VERY MUCH A SAFETY ISSUE!!! TOOK CAR TO DEALER ABOUT 4 TIMES BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT. NO SERVICE CODES. THEY SAID IT WAS THE ONLY CAR IN THE UNITED STATES REPORTING THIS ISSUE (UNTIL IT ALSO HAPPENED (4 TIMES)WHILE THEY WERE IN THE VEHICLE DURING MY LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER. THEY CHANGE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR BUT 4 DAYS LATER, (5/27/12) CAR STALLED 5 TIMES IN A 15 MIN. PERIOD. *TR
ON FRIDAY I CRANKED UP VEHICLE LEAVING WORK . PUT IN DRIVEN VEHICEL MADE SOUND AS IF TRANSMISSION JERKING. CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND VEHICLE ACTED FINE. WHILE DRIVING ON A WET THREE LANE HIGH WAY AT 50MPH THE CAR SHUT OFF ON ME. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER WITH MY EMERGENCY FALSHERS PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR. DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO KEPT IT OVER NIGHT. AS USUSAL THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR ONE YEAR. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALERHSIP ON SEVERAL OCCATIONS. OVER THE YEAR THE VEHICLE HAS SHUT OF ON ME WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD 9 DIFFERENT TIME. ALSO WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ONTO ROAD THE CAR WOULD NOT GO LIKE THE GAS WAS NOT GETTING THROUGH . I HAVE HAD A SEVERAL NEAR MISSES OF ACCIDENTS AND EVERY TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THEY TELL ME THAT THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING IS WRONG. I CARRY MY GRANDBABY WITH ME ALOT AND GETTING SCARED FOR OUR LIVES IN THIS CAR. I HAVE BEGGED THE DEALERSHIP TO PLEASE TRY OTHER ACTIONS TO FINED THE PROBLEM HAS FELL ON DEAF EARS BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED TO GET TRADE THIS VEHICLE BUT OWE TO MUCH TO TRADE IN. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS SITUATION IF YOUR COULD. I BELEIVE I HAVE RECEIVED A LEMON... THANK YOU *TR
BRAKES DID NOT WORK WHILE I WAS TRYING TO SLOW DOWN. AFTER GOT AN ACCIDENT I CHECKED MY CAR IN TOW YIELD THEY SAID THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH A FRONT TIRE AND THEY ALSO SAID IT IS 99% MANUFACTURER FAULT. THE BRAKE SHOULD NOT BE BROKEN WITH ANY DAMAGE HOWEVER IT BROKEN ALREADY. I DROVE ONLY A YEAR. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. *TR
THIS IS A NEW CAR AND THE INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN PRESENT FROM THE BEGINNING. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AT SLOW SPEED OR WHEN MOVING FROM BEING STOPPED, OR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE SENSATION IS THAT THE CAR HAS STALLED. AFTER A MOMENT, OR SEVERAL SECONDS, THE CAR WILL SURGE FORWARD, SOMETIMES CAUSING THE TIRES TO SCREECH. I IMMEDIATELY APPLY THE BRAKES TO BRING THE CAR UNDER CONTROL AND THE CAR WILL PROCEED WITHOUT FURTHER EVIDENCE OF A PROBLEM. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THIS EVENT MAY OCCUR WITH SUCCESSIVE STOPS. THE EVENT MAY OCCUR 6-8 TIMES DURING A LOCAL TRIP, OR IT MAY BE SEVERAL DAYS WITHOUT AN EVENT. I AM UNABLE TO PREDICT IT OCCURRING AND UNABLE TO CAUSE IT TO HAPPEN. I CONSIDER THE CAR TO BE UNSAFE BOTH BECAUSE IT MAY RESULT IN A COLLISION WITH A CAR IN FRONT OF ME BUT ALSO IT HAS LEFT ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, OR ROAD, NOT KNOWING WHEN MY CAR WILL MOVE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE DRIVER BEHIND ME HAS BLOWN HIS HORN AS I WAIT FOR MY CAR TO MOVE. THE CAR HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND DRIVEN BY SERVICE PERSONNEL AND A REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE MANUFACTURER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHOUT INCIDENT. I AM TOLD THERE IS NO RECORD OF THIS EVENT HAVING OCCURRED WITH THIS MODEL CAR AND THERE WAS NO SUGGESTED SOLUTION. THERE WAS A COMMENT THAT IT MAY BE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THEIR CONCLUSION IS THAT THERE IS NOTHING TO BE DONE IF THEY CANNOT PRODUCE THE EVENT. *TR

The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
