Summary

I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT WITH MY DAUGHTER AND MY TWO GRANDKIDS. WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE CAR STARTED TO STOP AND THEN GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND CAME TO A STOPLIGHT THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. EVERYTHING COMPLETELY WENT OFF THE CAR WOULD NOT START, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ALSO WENT DOWN THERE WAS NO POWER ANYWHERE IN THE VEHICLE. I THEN CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND REPORTED THE ISSUE. THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT INTO THE NISSAN DEALER AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. WHILE AT THE NISSAN DEALER THE REPAIRMAN THERE WERE THREE INFORMED ME THAT THERE HAD BEEN A CVT MALFUNCTIONING ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. DURING THE TIME THAT I WAS AT NISSAN HAVING MY VEHICLE DIAGNOSE, THERE WERE TWO OTHER SAME MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE THERE FOR THE SAME REASON. AND UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE AND NISSAN WAS AWARE OF IT. WHEN THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED THEY HAD SEVERAL CVT ISSUES. AT ONE POINT THEY PUT OUT A NOTICE TO ALL OF THOSE AFFECTED FOR THE RECON. ONCE THEY REALIZE THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THEY INTERN REMOVED THE NOTICE FROM THE ONLINE. AND DECIDED TO HANDLE IT ON A CASE BY CASE, WHICH NOW THEY ARE NOT REPAIRING BECAUSE THEY'RE MAKING IT A DECISION OF THEIR OWN AND NOT AS A RECALL. I'VE BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE MALFUNCTIONING CVT THAT THEY PLACED IN THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND CAME ACROSS MULTIPLE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE THAT PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ONLINE AND NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A FAULTY PART THAT THEY PLACED IN THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE HAD MY VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AS IT DID WHEN I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT SOMETHING MAJORLY COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO BOTH MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER AND MY GRANDKIDS WE MAY NOT STILL BE ALIVE TODAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS STALLING MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE FREEWAY ON MY WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING (9/25/19) AND THERE IS A SUDDEN THUMP ON THE ENGINE AS IT WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND WOULD STALL AGAIN AFTER A FEW YARDS. SO I DECIDED TO PULLOVER SAFELY AND STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION BUT WITH EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR BEING HIT FROM BEHIND, WITH THE VEHICLE STALLING. THIS IS THE 2ND NISSAN QUEST I OWNED AND IT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE 1ST ONE HAD ISSUES AT 50,000+ MILES. THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE OUR BATTERY SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASING OUR VEHICLE. IN 2018 ALONE WE PURCHASED 3 BATTERIES THEN THE FINAL STRAW IS THAT THERE IS AN "H" SLIT IN THE DASH YET THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS. WHICH DURING OUR FINANCING TIME PERIOD WAS NEVER A CONCERNED TO THE DEALER. NOW THAT THE CAR IS PAID OFF, THESE 2 SPECIFIC HABITUAL PROBLEMS HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED THE PRICE OF OUR VEHICLE. UPON RESEARCHING THE VEHICLE IT SEEMS OUR VAN MAY BE PART OF THE SOFTWARE RECALL BUT I AM ALSO THINKING THAT THE CRANKSHAFT MAY BE A HUGE FACTOR ALSO.

I JUST PAID MY VAN OFF WHEN I STARTED HAVING ENGINE ISSUES.AT 120,000 CODES READ P1701 TCM WIRING , P0746 PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID , P1778 STEP MOTOR , P0868 PRESSURE CONTROL MODULE .IS IT THE TRANSMISSION THE MECHANIC DOESNT WANT TO TOUCH IT JUST WANTS TO CHANGE THE TRANNY . I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS. I AM SINGLE MOM IS THERE NOT SOMEONE THAT CAN REBUILD THEM PROPERLY ???? I BOUGHT A NISSAN BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WOULD LAST LONGER. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE VAN IN 6 MONTHS ITS A TOTAL LOSS IF I SPEND THE MONEY AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN THEN I AM PUTTING GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD. IT'S NOT WORTH ANYTHING AS A DOWN PAYMENT IF I HAVE TO TOW IT IN. HAS ANYONE GOT TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS??? HOW I FOUND OUT IS THAT I TURNED ONTO A BUSY STREET PUSHED THE GAS IT WOULDNT GO. THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO DRIVE UPON THE CURVE ACCIDENT NARROWLY AVOIDED. THIS SUCKS

MY 2011 NISSAN QUEST IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. ON TWO SEPARATE TRIPS THIS SUMMER MY QUEST HAS SEEMINGLY BEEN INCAPABLE OF DOWN SHIFTING TO GAIN POWER DURING PASSING OR CLIMBS. THIS ONLY HAPPENS DURING SEVERAL HOURS OF EXTENDED DRIVING TIME BUT DURING NORMAL AROUND TOWN DRIVING IT OPERATES WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAVE NOW HAD MY QUEST SERVICED AT TWO SEPARATE DEALERS, ONE IN FLORIDA AND THE OTHER IN OHIO, BOTH FOUND NOTHING AT ALL WRONG. INCIDENT ONE OCCURRED IN LATE JUNE 2016 WHILE IN THE APPALACHIAN'S DURING BOTH THE DESTINATION AND RETURN TRIP (RETURN TRIP AFTER A DEALER TRANSMISSION SERVICE). THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TRAVEL FASTER THAN 50-60 MPH WHILE CLIMBING EVEN WITH THE ACCELERATION PEDAL COMPLETELY PRESSED. NO ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WAS NORMAL. DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE SIX PASSENGERS WITH LUGGAGE AND 95+ OUTDOOR TEMPS. INCIDENT TWO OCCURRED IN LATE JULY 2016 WHILE TRAVELING IN FAIRLY FLAT MICHIGAN AND OHIO. IN THIS CASE I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN 80MPH BUT UNABLE TO ACCELERATE TO PASS. BUT ONE VERY DANGEROUS INCIDENT AND IN FACT ALMOST CAUSING ME TO BE REAR-ENDED WAS WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND CHANGE LANES BUT HAD ZERO POWER PRESSING THE PEDDLE COMPLETELY DOWN. DRIVING CONDITIONS WERE FIVE PASSENGERS WITH LUGGAGE AND LOW 70S OUTDOOR TEMP. I CURRENTLY HAVE A NISSAN CORPORATE ENGINEER SCHEDULED TO EVALUATE MY VEHICLE.

OUR NISSAN QUEST HAS BEEN STALLING OUT WITH LESS THAN BETWEEN 1/2 AND 1/4 TANK OF GAS ON A DOWNHILL. IT IS MOSTLY HAPPENING WHILE STOPPED AT STOPLIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS, BUT CAN SPUTTER, SHAKE AND ACT LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING PROPER FUEL SUPPLY ON DOWNSLOPES EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR HAS STALLED OUT MULTIPLE TIMES ON BUSY STREETS, LEAVING ME VULNERABLE TO REAR END COLLISIONS. WE HAVE 4 CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH US MOST DAYS AND WE CANNOT HAVE OUR CAR STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF A 6 LANE ROAD. AFTER IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, WE LOOKED UP THE ISSUE ON LINE AND SAW THAT INDEED THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF CAR FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER, OUR VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NISSAN WILL NOT FIX IT NOW, YET IT IS STILL A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE.

Summary

OUR 2011 NISSAN QUEST IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED, SUCH AS ON THE FREEWAY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR AWHILE, THE TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO MAKE A RINGING TYPE SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING. IT ALSO STRUGGLES TO DOWNSHIFT PROPERLY, TAKING SEVERAL SECONDS TO ENGAGE IN THE DOWNSHIFT FOR MORE POWER AND THEN JERKING ROUGHLY. IT HAS LEFT US VULNERABLE TO A SITUATION IN WHICH WE COULD CRASH BY NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ANOTHER VEHICLE QUICKLY. ACCORDING TO OUR MECHANIC AT OUR SERVICE STATION, THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH NISSAN'S GEARLESS TRANSMISSION SYSTEM AND HAS BEEN RECALLED ON SEVERAL OTHER NISSAN VEHICLE MODELS.

AFTER A SHORT 3 YEARS THE DASH ABOVE THE PASSENGER SIDE SRS AIRBAG LOCATION ON THE DASH SPLIT. I ESCALATED THE ISSUE TO NISSAN 3RD LEVEL ESCALATION AND THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE DASH BUT WOULD GIVE ME 1000.00 TO SPLIT THE COST. ON JAN 25 2016 MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A NO FAULT ACCIDENT SMASHING HEAD ON INTO A SNOW BANK AND THEN ROLLING ONTO THE ROOF THEN CRUNCHING ON THE PASSENGER DOOR. MY FOREHEAD WAS SMASHED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL OF 10 AIRBAGS NOT 1 AIRBAG DEPLOYED. I SUSTAINED INJURY AND IF I HAD A MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE PASSENGERS. NO SIDE IMPACT BAGS DEPLOYED OR PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I AM CONCERNED THAT WITH THIS VIOLENT IMPACT AND THE ROLLING OF THE VEHICLE THAT THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND BOTH FRONT SRS AIRBAGS DEPLOYMENT. THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. AT MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN WAKE FOREST ALONE THERE HAS BEEN 4 INCLUDING MINE THAT HAD THIS TYPE OF DEFECTIVE DASH THAT WAS REPLACED. MY VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSE ACCORDING TO THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATION.

THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE GAUGE TO ALERT DRIVER OF LOW OIL PRESSURE. CHECK ENGINE ICON COMES ON BUT DOESN'T ALERT DRIVER AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. VEHICLE IN QUESTION WAS TAKEN IN FOR OIL CHANGE MONTHS AGO AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OIL BUT THERE WERE NO WARNINGS DETECTED AND THERE ARE NO KNOWN OIL LEAKS. CHECKED OIL LEVEL WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE ICON CAME ON AGAIN AND TOPPED OFF OIL LEVEL TO SAFE AMOUNT AND THE NEXT DAY IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN WITH NO WARNING SIGNS OF A VERY UNSAFE OIL LEVEL(OIL WAS NOT PRESENT ON THE DIPSTICK). MILEAGE FOR VEHICLE IS AROUND 70K+. ONCE AGAIN PINGING WAS NOTICED AND NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THAT THEY COULD NOT DETECT ANY PINGING AND NO KNOWN OIL LEAKS WERE FOUND WITH NO VISUAL EVIDENCE DETECTED.

THERE HAVE BEEN 3 INSTANCES WHERE OUR VAN HAS STALLED SITTING ON AN INCLINE WITH A QUARTER OR SO OF GAS LEFT. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL FOR THE 2011 QUEST BUT MINE DOESN'T FALL UNDER THE SAME MANUFACTURE DATE RANGE. AFTER RESEARCHING, I FOUND THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE QUEST OVER SEVERAL YEARS NOT JUST 2011. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM RESEARCH AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE. THEY SUGGESTED PURCHASING A FUEL SENDING UNIT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF IT WAS JUST A PROBLEM WITH THE GAUGE THEN WHY WOULD THE CAR STALL ON A HILL WITH PLENTY OF GAS LEFT? I AM WORRIED ABOUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I AM ACTUALLY TRAVELING DOWN A HILL AT SPEED AND MY CAR STALLS.

INDICATOR AT THE TIME STILL SAID WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES. PARKED ON A DECLINE AND CAR WOULD NOT START WHEN WE RETURNED. THE MATH ISN'T ADDING UP. LUCKILY OUR CHILDREN HAVEN'T BEEN IN THE CAR ON EITHER OCCURRENCE NOR HAVE WE STALLED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR AS A RESULT. PURCHASED BRAND NEW VEHICLE ON 4/20/11, ON 7/20/11 CAR WOULD NOT START. HAD TO TOW CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY AND THEY WOULD RECHARGE IT. WE REQUESTED THAT THEY INSTALL A NEW BATTERY AND THEY FINALLY DID. YESTERDAY 3/3/11 WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WENT INTO A STORE FOR 5 MINUTES, RETURNED TO THE CAR AND IT WAS TOTALLY DEAD. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AGAIN. AS OF THIS WRITING NOT SURE WHAT THE OUTCOME WILL BE. SINCE THE 3RD WAS A SATURDAY, OUR CAR IS NOW SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WE ARE SITTING BY THE COMPUTER BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE ANY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. JUST NOTICED A NEW RECALL WHEN I WENT ON THIS WEBSITE FOR THE QUEST BUT NOT SURE IF THIS IS PART OF THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. WE CANNOT ALLOW NISSAN TO GET AWAY WITH PUTTING CUSTOMERS IN DANGER. I AM AWAITING THE RESULTS OF THEIR EVALUATION. THIS CAR WAS JUST IN FOR SERVICE ON 2/11/11 WITH A COMPLETE CHECK OF THE SYSTEM AND WE WERE TOLD EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. 3 WEEKS LATER WE HAVE A CAR THAT IS SITTING IN THEIR LOT WAITING TO BE LOOKED AT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILL THE CAR WILL STALL IF THE GAS TANK READS LESS THAN 90 MILES TO EMPTY. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN TOWN. TODAY THIS HAPPENED WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION. THE VAN STALLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR INTERSECTION WHICH CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD. THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER SAID THAT NISSAN IS "WORKING" ON FIXING THE PROBLEM BUT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR US. *TR

MY ENGINE KEEP SHUTTING OFF, IT HAPPENED MANY TIMES WHEN MY CAR'S FUEL DOWN TO LESS THAN 25% OF TANK OR AROUND 60 MILES LEFT, AND THE CAR DOWNHILL ONLY. EXAMPLE: I WAS PULLING OUT MY CAR OUT FROM DRIVE WAY AND DOWN TO STREET, IT KEEP SHUTTING OFF, OR MY CAR CUTTING FUEL. COULDN'T PULL MY CAR UNTIL MY CAR PUT IN IGNITION ON AND HAVE SOMEONE TO PUSH TO LEVEL ON THE STREET. THEN MY CAR CAN START ON THE ENGINE. IT WAS SO DANGEROUS, BECAUSE THE BRAKE WAS OFF AND ENGINE WAS OFF, HAVE SOMEONE TO PUSH THE CAR. ALSO, I AM AFRAID WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE ROAD, IF SUDDENLY HAPPEN LIKE THAT. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO... THIS IS CAR ALWAYS DRIVE WITH THE MY KIDS. *TR

WHEN FUEL GAUGE READS 1/4 TANK OR LESS VAN WILL SHUT DOWN IF ON A DECLINE (WHILE DRIVING OR PARKED). I BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO A MECHANICAL ERROR IN THE FLOAT IN THE GAS TANK NOT READING PROPERLY. I MUST MAKE SURE THAT I HAVE AT LEAST 1/2 TANK OF GAS AT ALL TIMES. *TR

Summary

QUEST CONSTANTLY STALLS WHEN DRIVING DOWNHILL WITH LESS THAN 1/4 TANK OF FUEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS. 1) BACKING OUT OF STEEP DRIVEWAY, APPROX HALFWAY UP DRIVEWAY THE ENGINE STALLED AND VAN ROLLED FORWARD. WE COULD NOT GET THE VAN RESTARTED AND HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AND THE ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS SHOWED NO PROBLEM. DTE SHOWED OVER 100 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. 2) DRIVING DOWN HILL ON BACK ROAD VAN STALLED. DTE SHOWED 75 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. VAN WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED WHEN ON FLAT SURFACE. 3) STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT ON SLIGHT DOWN HILL. DTE SHOWED 90 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. VAN STARTED BACK UP IMMEDIATELY. 4) DRIVING DOWNHILL ON BUSY URBAN STREET. DTE SHOWED OVER 100 MILES UNTIL EMPTY. VAN WAS RESTARTED AFTER ADDING GASOLINE. NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS IT COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF IT HAPPENS ON A BUSY ROAD. *TR

WHEN ENGINE TURNED OFF I WAS ABLE TO ROLL DOWN THE HILL UNTIL I PULLED OVER AT A FLAT PART OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO TURN MINIVAN BACK ON ONCE I STOPPED AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS. INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 2/20/2012. AGAIN, THERE WAS ABOUT 1/4 TANK OF GAS LEFT. WENT OVER A MAJOR BRIDGE AND ON THE WAY DOWN THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO ROLL DOWN TO A FLAT SURFACE. Summary

NEAR MISS WITH A STALLING NISSAN QUEST SL 2011. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE SEVERE ACCIDENTS AND DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. I BOUGHT A NISAN QUEST SL IN NOVEMBER 2011. BACK IN DECEMBER 2011 WHILE HAVING A LITTLE BIT LESS THAN A QUARTER TANK OF GASOLINE I MADE A LEFT TURN TO GET INTO INCOMING TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE STALLED RIGHT ON THE TRAFFIC LANE, FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NOT ANY CARS CLOSE TO MY VEHICLE. INITIALLY I THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN AN ISOLATED EVENT, BUT MY WIFE COMMENTED THAT THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO HER. THIS WEEKEND WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILL AND ENTERING AN INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN (I WAS GOING STRAIGHT, WITHOUT TURNING) AND THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP WHEN I LOST SPEED, THEY ALMOST HIT US. FROM THE EVENTS EXPLAINED ABOVE I ASSUME THE FUEL INJECTION IS FAILING DUE TO A BAD GAS TANK DESIGN AND/OR THE TURNING AND/OR DRIVING DOWN HILL MAY BE CONTRIBUTING DUE TO THE UNEVEN FLOW OF GASOLINE. AGAIN THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT MAY CAUSE SEVERE ACCIDENTS. *TR

THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND REFUELED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS FUEL PRESENT IN THE FUEL TANK AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ALSO INDICATED THAT THERE WAS ENOUGH FUEL LEFT TO TRAVEL APPROXIMATELY FIFTY MILES. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS AND THE VEHICLE STALLED ON A FEW OCCASIONS WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT UNWANTED MOISTURE MAY BE ENTERING THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK FOR ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,750.

Summary

THE FIRST TIME I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THIS VAN WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO APPROXIMATELY 6,000 MILES. I HAD JUST DROPPED MY DAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL. THERE WAS A LOT OF TRAFFIC. I HAD 1/4 TANK OF GAS. I WAS LEAVING THE SCHOOL AND ON A SLIGHT DECLINE WHEN MY CAR STALLED. I HAD SEVERAL CARS AND LARGE BUSES BEHIND ME. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. I WAS TERRIFIED. WHEN THE CAR STALLED MY BRAKES WENT OUT AND I WAS LUCKY I PUT THE PARKING BREAK ON WHEN I DID OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I USED THE PARKING BREAK AND ROLLED THE VAN OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO THE BUSHES LEAVING JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR CARS TO GET PAST ME. I NOTICED THE GAS GAUGE REGISTERED AS EMPTY. I SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE VAN WOULD START AGAIN. WHEN IT DID I IMMEDIATELY FILLED UP WITH GAS. I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT. IN THE MEANTIME I WAS DROPPING MY OTHER DAUGHTER AT AN ACTIVITY. I WAS ON A DECLINE AGAIN THE CAR STALLED. I HAD TO ROLL DOWN TO LEVEL GROUND AND SIT AND WAIT UNTIL MY CAR WOULD START AGAIN. AGAIN I HAD ABOUT 1/4 OF A TANK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND NOT TO LET THE TANK GO BELOW 1/2. YESTERDAY AT 12,000 MILES THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. I HAD JUST UNDER A HALF A TANK AND IDLED ON A DECLINE, MY CAR STALLED AGAIN. NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT IT IS THE CLUSTER GAUGE. THEY DECIDED THIS WHEN THEY FILLED UP THE CAR FOR ME (AFTER IT STALLED) AND HAD TO PUT 14.7 GALLONS IN IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT WAS A 16 GALLON TANK SO THAT IS PROOF TO HIM IT'S THE GAUGE. I HAVE READ THE 2011 QUEST HAS A 20 GALLON TANK SO I RAN OUT OF GAS WITH 6 GALLONS IN THE TANK. I WAS TOLD NISSAN WOULDN'T ISSUE A RECALL UNTIL IT BECOMES A SAFETY CONCERN. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. WHEN IS IT A SAFETY ISSUE FOR NISSAN? WHEN A LIFE IS LOST? *TR

THE CAR CONTINUED ROLLING THROUGH THE RED LIGHT/ INTERSECTION WHEN I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. PUT CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED RESTARTING 4 TIMES, BUT IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PRESS MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE IN ORDER TO START THE CAR. AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO START. FUEL INDICATOR TOLD ME I HAD 33 MILES TO EMPTY. I DROVE ANOTHER 10 MILES AND FILLED THE GAS. *TR

I PURCHASED MY NISSAN NOVEMBER OF 2011. ON JANUARY 7TH 2012 AS I WAS DRIVING GOING DOWN HILL ON HWY 70 IN BLUE SPRINGS GOING ON A ON RAMP WHICH IS DOWN HILL GOING APPROXAMATELY 45-50 MPH AND MY ENGINE OUT OF NO WHERE JUST SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD MY WIFE AND THREE KIDS IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM IN THE MARINE CORPS STATIONED IN ARIZONA AND I HAD TO GO BACK TO MY DUTY STATION THERE. THIS OCCURANCE HAS HAPPENED MANY MORE TIMES WITH MY WIFE, ON ONE INCIDENT ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT (WHICH COULD OF KILLED SOMEONE) AND MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WHERE SHE WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND RANDOMLY THE ENGINE CUTOFF ON HER ON HIGHWAY 70 GOING ABOUT 70MPH AND IT WASNT EVEN ON A HILL IT WAS ON FLAT PAVEMENT BY THE GRACE OF GOD SHE MADE IT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HWY AND ONCE STOPPED SHE COULDNT RESTART FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES I ASKED HER IF SHE WAS OUT OF FUEL SHE SAID NO IT HAD ABOUT HALF A TANK. MY WIFE IS TERRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR TERRIFIED AND SHE HAS TO DRIVE IT TO TAKE MY SON TO SCHOOL AND I AM NOT EVEN ABLE TO BE THERE TO HELP ADDRESS THE SITUATION. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND I AM CONTACTING NISSAN CORPORATE AND ADDRESSING IT. I AM EXTREMELY WORRIED FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY AND IM MAKING PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT SEEMS TO BE A DEATH TRAP. ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO HELP ME AND MY FAMILY WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

Summary

WITH THREE YOUNG KIDS IN THE VAN, WE WERE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, IN THE DARK, ON A HILL, AT AN INTERSECTION WHERE CARS MUST TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAD A QUARTER TANK OF GAS. LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND THE CAR BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. CALLED THE POLICE TO DIRECT TRAFFIC, IT WAS DARK AND CARS WERE COMING AT MY DISABLED VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, LEFT AND RIGHT. CALLED AAA. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY GIRLS OUT OF THE VAN AND CROSS A MAJOR INTERSECTION SAFELY. WE GOT GAS IN THE CAR AND GOT IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP. AS THIS WAS A LEASED VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON IT, WE CALLED CORPORATE NISSAN TO DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENED AND ASKED TO BE LET OUT OF OUR LEASE (AND INTO ANOTHER NISSAN). AFTER APPROX. TWO WEEKS OF TALKING WITH NISSAN REPS (WHICH IS NOT AS EASY TALK AS THEY DO NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS AND NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONES) AND AN ARBITRATOR, WE WERE TOLD SINCE THE VAN WAS "FIXED" AS PER THE 1ST TSB, WE WOULD NOT BE LET OUT OF OUR LEASE. I TOLD THE ARBITRATOR I FELT THE VAN WAS UNSAFE, SHE ARGUED THAT NOBODY WAS HURT IN THE VAN AND THE VAN WAS FIXED. SHE ALSO SAID THEY WOULD NOT PERFORM BOTH TSB'S ON MY VAN SINCE THE VIN NUMBER DID NOT ALIGN WITH THE DATES ISSUED IN THE 2ND TSB. NEXT DAY, THE VAN WAS DRIVEN BY A SERVICE MANAGER AND SPUTTERED ON A HILL!! THE FIRST FIX (REPLACING THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY GAGE) DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I LEFT A MESSAGE FOR THE ARBITRATOR TO LET HER KNOW, SHE NEVER CALLED BACK. ONE WEEK LATER THE 2ND TSB HAS BEEN PERFORMED AND THE VAN IS READY FOR PICK UP. I DO NOT TRUST THE FIXES AND WILL NOT PUT MY FAMILY AT RISK. I THINK ITS A DISGRACE HOW CORPORATE NISSAN IS HANDLING THIS PROBLEM. THEY KNOW THE 2011 QUEST HAS A GAS TANK DESIGN FLAW AND ARE NOT ACTIVELY TRYING TO GET THEM OFF THE ROAD FOR MUCH NEEDED REPAIRS. I DID GET OUT OF MY LEASE PRIVATELY AND FIRMLY BELIEVE NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2011 QUEST. *TR

WHEN I ARRIVED I HAD HER ATTEMPT TO START AS I LISTENED TO THE ENGINE, IT WAS TURNING AND THE CAR HAD POWER BUT IT WAS ACTING LIKE IT HAD NO FUEL. THE GAUGE SHOWED A LITTLE OVER 1/4 TANK. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED HE TOOK US TO A GAS STATON FIRST, AFTER FUELING THE CAR STARTED. WHEN I SUBMITTED IT TO THE QUEST DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE CHIEF SAID THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME HE'S SEEN THIS HAPPEN IN THE PAST MONTH! THE FACT THAT NISSAN HAS CLEAR EVIDENCE OF A PROBLEM THAT CAN PROVE VERY, VERY, DANGEROUS YET HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL IS VERY DISTURBING. PLEASE ADDRESS, THANK YOU.

WE HAVE HEARD SIMILAR STORIES OF THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING WHEN PARKED ON AN DECLINE, BUT HAVE ALSO HEARD OF OWNERS OF THE 2011 QUEST STALLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO FUEL STARVATION, ATTRIBUTABLE TO BAD GAS TANK DESIGN. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY NISSAN IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED IN A STALL-OUT ACCIDENT. *TR

FIRST INCIDENT: VEHICLE'S LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND COMPUTER INDICATED 55 MILES TO EMPTY. APPROXIMATELY 8 MILES LATER, WHILE IDLING IN A PARKING LOT ON A SUBTLE DOWNHILL SLOPE, THE ENGINE STALLED. PUSHING START BUTTON CAUSED AN ATTEMPT TO CRANK, BUT ENGINE WOULDN'T START. ACCESSORY POWER STILL WORKED. WE PUT 1 1/2 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE VAN AND IT STILL WOULD NOT START (JUST CRANKED AND SPUTTERED OUT AGAIN). THE VAN WAS TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER AND ONCE OFF THE TOW TRUCK, IT STARTED UP WITHOUT PROBLEMS AND INDICATED 74 MILES TO EMPTY. DEALER RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG, AND THEY BELIEVED IT RAN OUT OF GAS BUT STATED COMPUTER AND FUEL GAUGE WE'RE ACCURATE. SECOND INCIDENT: 12/16/11, LOW FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AT 52 MILES TO EMPTY. BEFORE I COULD REACH THE CLOSEST GAS STATION, AT 48 MILES TO EMPTY AND AFTER GOING DOWN A DOWNHILL SLOPE THEN PULLING UP TO A STOPLIGHT ON A HIGHWAY THAT WAS STILL AT A VERY SLIGHT DOWNHILL DECLINE, THE ENGINE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I EXITED THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF BEING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I CALLED POLICE AND WE PUT 3 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE VAN AND THE ENGINE CRANKED RIGHT UP. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION ABOUT 3 MILES AWAY AND THE VAN TOOK 15.2 GALLONS (ADD THE 3 POLICE PUT IN AND I SHOULD HAVE HAD 1.8 GALLONS IN THE TANK WHEN IT STALLED). *TR
