Front right side of driver’s seat has collapsed. Possibly due to a broken bracket or weld.
I have received multiple letters to fix my Subarus air bag. It was fixed once after a long wait for parts. The second required fix is proving hard to set up. I called a Subaru fix line, waited an hour while they try to schedule, then was disconnected. I called back, same long wait and they can not call you back if disconnected (I asked if they could as I was just disconnected and had to start over). I tried to explain to them in Hawaii we live on islands and cannot drive to other ones so it must be scheduled on my (Maui) island. They said they knew that (I even gave them the address of Subaru Maui). I waited on hold another 1/2 hour then got an email. I was scheduled a month later on - another island. I called back, waited again (they seemed more concerned with canceling my appointment the getting me a new one). After a very long series of transfers I was connected with Subaru Maui. They told me they (service dept) can't schedule them (only mangers can schedule air bag appointments) but they will have a manager call me back. I asked when and they said a week or two. Its been a week but I have not heard anything. I wrote Subaru with my issue and got a auto reply telling thanking me for being an owner and how great their cares are. No acknowledgment of my problem. The letters stress the importance of getting it done, but Subaru makes it very hard.
As I drove into my driveway smoke started coming out of engine compartment. Behind and under vehicle was a massive leak of either oil or transmission fluid. No warning lights were observed and vehicle was running fine while we were out. The entire vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames and burned to the ground before firefighters arrived.
LEAKY CYLINDER HEAD GASKETS MADE OIL LEAK INTO COOLING SYSTEM. CAR BEGAN RATTLING AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. SUBARU KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUES WITH THIS AND MAY OTHER YEARS CARS YET REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. LOOKING AT A COSTLY $3K FIX. NOT DRIVABLE OTHERWISE. LUCKILY IT DIDN'T FAIL ON US WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A. CRIVELLI SUBARU (768 ALLEGHENY BLVD, FRANKLIN, PA 16323) AND AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE RESULT CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SHORT BLOCK ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PARTIALLY COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THROUGH COLORADO, FROM CRESTED BUTTE TO TELLURIDE. I WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVE. AS THE CAR WENT UP HILLS IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT DOWN, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV INTO THE 4,000 RPM RANGE, WHICH IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE SUSTAINED. IN ORDER TO COMBAT THIS I USED THE MANU-MATIC SYSTEM TO HOLD THE TRANSMISSION IN THE HIGHER GEAR. AFTER A WHILE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CONCURRENTLY, THE TRACTION CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT BEGAN BLINKING. THINKING IT WAS AN OVERHEATING ISSUE, I STOPPED THE CAR AND WAITED A WHILE. AFTER A FEW CYCLES OF DRIVE/STOP/DRIVE/STOP, THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF. THINKING THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED, WE CONTINUED ON TO TELLURIDE. LEAVING TELLURIDE, HOWEVER, WITH THE SAME DRIVING BEHAVIOR, THE ISSUE RETURNED, ONLY WORSE NOW. WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED RESPONDING. WE WERE HEADED UPHILL AT 65MPH ON A NARROW TWO LANE ROAD, WITH A STEEP DROP OFF THE SIDE, AND MULTIPLE CARS BEHIND US. I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY DOWN AND THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL. THIS CAUSED US TO BEGIN RAPIDLY DECELERATING, WHICH WAS EXTREMELY UNSAFE GIVEN THE CONDITIONS. WE PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. AFTER A SHORT WHILE OF SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE ISSUE HAD CEASED. THE INTERMITTENT NATURE OF THIS ISSUE IS SCARY - AT ANY MOMENT THE ACCELERATOR MAY CEASE TO RESPOND, POTENTIALLY CAUSING A LIFE THREATENING SCENARIO. UPON REACHING OUR DESTINATION, A FRIEND HAD A CODE SCANNER AND PULLED CODE "P2138 - THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR SWITCH D E VOLTAGE CORRELATION." THERE'S NO OFFICIAL DOCUMENTATION FROM SUBARU, THAT I COULD FIND, ON THE ISSUE, AND BROWSING VARIOUS SUBARU FORUMS TURNS UP A LOT MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS.
ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN BRAKING TO A STOP THE ENGINE HAS SURGED ACCELERATING THE CAR AGAINST THE BRAKING. THIS SURGING HAS CAUSED THE CAR TO ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT AND ON THE OTHER OCCASION CAUSED THE CAR TO CHANGE PATH OF TRAVEL WHILE APPROACHING THE GARAGE.
A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF APPARENTLY NORMAL DRIVING. THE FIRE EVENTUALLY DESTROYED THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE(S) OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED
2011 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES RECEIVED FOR VEHICLE. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME COMPLETING THE RECALL REPAIRS. *JS
WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE INTAKE VALVE SPRING BROKE AND DROPPED THE VALVE INTO THE CYLINDER CAUSING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR
THIS MODEL HAS BURNED A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL. I HAVE TO REFILL WITH 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN CHANGES AND EVEN MORE IF WE DRIVE CAR FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. I HAD TAKEN VEHICLE AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES BECAUSE OF THE SMELL OF BURNT OIL WOULD COME FROM THE BLOCK, BUT THERE WASN'T A SIGN OF LEAKAGE ANYWHERE. THE DEALERSHIP HELD THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE MAIN OIL SEALS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. $3200 LATER AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, IT WAS TOO COSTLY TO KEEP BRINGING VEHICLE IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND A BOLD FORUM WHERE HUNDREDS OF OWNERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND SUBARU OF AMERICA WAS NOT WILLING TO LISTEN AND DO A MANDATORY RECALL FOR THIS OBVIOUS PROBLEM. WHEN I CALLED CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY TOLD ME I WAS OVER THE ALLOWED MILEAGE FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE FIXED. MY PROBLEM WITH THIS WAS THAT THEY NEVER SENT OUT A NOTICE OR MESSAGE RELATED THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM MANY COULD BE ENCOUNTERING. THEY STATED THAT THE ONLY FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK WHICH WOULD COST ME OVER $5000. THIS PROBLEM IS A MAJOR ONE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE BURNS ALMOST 2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 1500 MILES OR SO. IF NOT REGULARLY CHECKED AND REFILLED, THE ENGINE CAN BURN DUE TO THE LACK OF OIL. IT IS BECOMING EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE SINCE A QUART OF OIL IS ABOUT $10. I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO BE PRESENT AND SUBARU HAS NOT YET TAKEN CARE OF ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS. AT THIS POINT, AS SOON AS I CAN AFFORD IT, I WILL BUY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND SUBARU WILL NOT BE ON MY TO BUY LIST IN THE FUTURE AGAIN. I WILL ALSO NOT RECOMMEND ANY OF MY ACQUAINTANCES TO PURCHASE A SUBARU IN THE FUTURE AS WELL. *TR
WHEN MY HEAD LIGHTS GOT TURNED ON NONE OF MY TAILLIGHTS OR MY DASH LIGHTS CAME IN 1200 DOLLAR REPAIR. ALSO MY HEAD GASKET WENT WITH 1500 DOLLAR REPAIR WHICH SUBARU IN KNOWN FOR IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH. *TR
DEALER SAYS MY 2011 SUBARU FORESTER (~60,000 MI) HAS A CAM CARRIER OIL LEAK THAT WILL REQUIRE A $2,500 REPAIR TO FIX, AS IT INVOLVES REMOVING THE ENGINE. I'M CONCERNED THAT A LEAKING CAMSHAFT SEAL CAN COMPROMISE THE TIMING BELT, LEADING TO A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND DAMAGE.
TWO MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE CAR USED FROM A DEALER, I NOTICED THAT IT SMELLED 'OILY', LIKE AN OLD CAR THAT HAD BEEN SITTING WITHOUT BEING STARTED. I CHECKED THE OIL AND THE CAR WAS ALMOST DRY AFTER ABOUT 1900 MILES FROM PICKING IT UP FROM THE DEALER. IT HAS USED OIL EXCESSIVELY EVER SINCE. I NEED ABOUT 1 QT, SOMETIMES MORE, EVERY 500 MILES. AFTER DRIVING, IT ALWAYS HAS THAT HOT OLD OIL SMELL TO THE ENGINE, LIKE A VERY OLD CAR. I'VE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT GARAGES BUT THEY CANNOT FIND A LEAK, SO IT MUST BE THAT THE OIL IS SOMEHOW BURNING. WHEN I ASK WHERE THE OIL IS GOING, THEY EITHER TELL ME "IT'S A SUBARU" WITH A SHRUG, AS THOUGH THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED, OR THEY SAY THAT PERHAPS I'M NOT NOTICING HOW FAR I'VE DRIVEN. ON ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE TICKS AND RATTLES LIKE IT IS OUT OF OIL. AT HIGH SPEEDS (60+MPH), THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS STRAINING. THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT LIGHTS UP DURING INITIAL STARTING, BUT NEVER COMES ON WHILE IDLING OR DRIVING, NO MATTER HOW LOW THE OIL GETS. THIS PUTS ME AT RISK TO BLOW THE ENGINE WITH NO WARNING.
THE WIPERS CLOG WITH ICE AND DO NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD WELL. THEY FREEZE INTO THE WELL BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE WINDSHIELD. I HAVE TO PHYSICALLY CHOP THEM LOOSE WITH AN ICE SCRAPER IN VERY COLD WEATHER. CHUNKS OF ICE STICK TO THE BLADES AND DO NOT RELEASE, RESULTING IN BLADES THAT DO NOT MAKE FULL CONTACT WITH THE GLASS. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES OF BLADES INCLUDING WHATEVER THEY SELL AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WINTER ICE BLADES. THEY DRAG AND SMEAR DURING RAIN OR SNOW, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE CLEARLY. I THINK THE WIPER BODY IS NOT STIFF ENOUGH TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD EFFECTIVELY, EVEN WHEN THERE IS ONLY RAIN AND NO SNOW OR ICE. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER (SUBARU OF WATERVILLE, ME) AND WAS OFFERED NEW BLADES, AND HAD IT SUGGESTED THAT I USE ''QUALITY" WIPER FLUID.
THIS IS AN OLDER CAR BUT STILL SERVICEABLE. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES ACCOMPANIED BY A SEATBELT WARMING, WHENEVER A PASSENGER IS SEATED AND THE CAR IS MOVING. ALSO A MESSAGE LIGHT INDICATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS OFF. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A SUBARU DEALER TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE. THE ONLY REMEDY OFFERED WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT AT A COST EXCEEDING $2000. NOT COST EFFECTIVE FOR WHAT AMOUNTS TO DEFECTIVE WEIGHT SENSORS. WE HAVE NOTED THAT NEWER SUBAR'S HAVE HAD THE SENSORS RECALLED. WE REQUEST THAT THE RECALL BE EXTENDED TO ALL AFFECTED SUBARU VEHICLES.
WHEN I PLAY A CD IN MY SUBARU'S CD PLAYER FOR AN HOUR, THE IGNITION KEY IS HOT TO THE TOUCH WHEN I STOP CAR AND REMOVE IT.
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS RECALLED AGAIN
THE IGNITION KEY STARTS THE CAR, BUT STICKS IN THE IGNITION AFTER DRIVING TO DESTINATION AND PUTTING IT IN PARK. THE PROBLEM IS PERSISTENT BUT INTERMITTENT. IT TYPICALLY REPEATS IN THE MORNING AFTER THE FIRST DRIVE OF THE DAY. CAN'T ALWAYS GET THE KEY OUT AND HAVE TO RETURN HOME. AFTER DRIVING AND MUCH JIGGLING THE KEY WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED A PART IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT HE CALL THE "SHIFTER PLATE," TO THE TUNE OF $550, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.
WHILE PARKING IN A STORE'S LOT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I KEPT APPLYING THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP I ENDED UP CRASHING THROUGH A FENCE AND FALLING DOWN A 10 FOOT EMBANKMENT. *DT *TR
UNKNOWN ORIGIN. VEHICLE EMITS STRONG FOUL BURNING OIL/RUBBER SMELL. SUBARU HAS CHECKED USING AN OIL LEAK TEST SHOWS IT IS NOT BURNING OIL. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER SMELL COMPLAINTS, BUT SUBARU SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS COMPLAINT, BUT SAYS IT IS RELATED TO AN OIL LEAK. PEOPLE NEARBY MAKE COMMENTS ABOUT THE FOUL SMELLING SUBARU.
TAKATA RECALL HAVE NOT FOUND A DEALERSHIP WILLING TO REPLACE. IF THEY WILL NOT FIX WILL THEY BUY BACK MY CAR. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DRIVE A PASSENGER IN MY CAR
WHILE TAKING A RIGHT TURN APPROX 10-15 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, BUT NO OTHER SYSTEMS WERE EFFECTED. THE RADIO NEVER TURNED OFF, THE CAR NEVER STUTTERED , I DIDN'T KNOW THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF UNTILL THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IMMEDIATELY AFTER REALIZING THE ENGINE WAS OFF I LOOKED AT DASH PANEL AND ALL SYSTEM LIGHTS WERE ON AS IF KEY WAS IN ACCESSORY MODE. I PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED IGNITION AND CAR STARTED UP WITH NO ISSUES AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. I DROVE ANOTHER 15 MINS TO WORK MAKING LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS WITH NO ISSUES.
I WAS PULLING SLOWLY INTO A PARKING SPACE (BRAKING) AT A SHOPPING CENTER WHEN MY SUBARU SUDDENLY ACCELERATED RAPIDLY, TAKING MY CAR OVER THE CURB THROUGH A HEDGEROW AND INTO ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE, AT WHICH TIME IT STOPPED. WITNESS CONFIRMED THE SUDDEN RAPID BOLTING OF THE CAR FORWARD FROM AN ALMOST STOPPED POSITION.
I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED WITH A NEW ENGINE INSTALLED BY SUBARU OF AMERICA AS A LEMON LAW BUYBACK. AFTER ONLY 87,000 MILES, MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES UNDER GOOD CONDITIONS AND METICULOUS MAINTENANCE, A ROD BEARING FAILED, DESTROYING THE ENGINE.
BURNING MORE THAN 1 QT PER 1,000 MILES
TAKATA RECALL- LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS BEING DIFFICULT IN TRYING TO RESOLVE HAVING PASSENGER AIR BAG REPLACED. ALSO SUBARU OF AMERICA HAS BEEN SLOW TO STEP IN AND HELP
TAKATA RECALL - CALLED DEALER TO SCHEDULE FIX FOR RECALL, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT SCHEDULE ME UNTIL JUNE 24, AND UNTIL THEN I SHOULD NOT HAVE ANYONE IN MY PASSENGER SEAT. THEY SAID THE DELAY WAS BECAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY CARS THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED THEY COULD NOT SCHEDULE ANYONE UNTIL AT LEAST THEN. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V009000 (AIR BAGS). CARR SUBARU (LOCATED AT 11635 SW CANYON RD, BEAVERTON, OR 97005, (503) 672-3370) WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A DATE SOONER THAN JULY 19, 2019 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
OUR FORESTER HAS BEEN BURNING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. THOUGHT IT WAS LEAKS AT FIRST AND HAVE SPENT ABOUT 2500 FIXING THOSE. KEEPS LOSING OIL SO MUST BE BURNING IT. TOOK AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AT DEALER WHICH LASTS 1200 MILES. FAILED BECAUSE IT DIDN'T MAKE IT 650 MILES BEFORE IT RAN OUT OF OIL. SUBARU DID NOTHING TO HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. SOON AFTER IT IS NOW STARTING TO THROW CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. TWICE NOW THE ENGINE HAS ALSO DIED WHILE I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. ONCE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE OTHER WAS LUCKILY BEFORE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT

73000 MILES AND WE HAD TO DO A FULL ENGINE RESEAL INCLUDING HEAD GASKETS, CAM CARRIERS, VALVE COVER GASKETS. ALL WERE LEAKING. COMPLAINT IS THAT THE GASKETS SHOULD NOT FAIL THIS SOON, 73K MILES. WE WERE LOSING ENGINE OIL. CAR WAS MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO SUBARU.
VEHICLE IS BURNING LARGE AMOUNTS OF OIL. NO OIL LIGHT INDICATOR COMES ON TO WARN OF LOW ENGINE OIL. BURNS APPROXIMATELY 2 QUARTS PER 1000 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM AN ESTATE AND HAD TO WAIT 3 MONTHS TO GET THE PROPER DOCUMENTATION FOR THE DMV. I PUT IT ON THE ROAD 1/31/19. I WENT THROUGH THE CAR TO VERIFY THE SPARE TIRE AND JACK WERE IN GOOD ORDER. THE SPARE TIRE WELL LOCATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE UNDER THE FLOOR MAT HAD 3 INCHES OF WATER IN IT. I REMOVED THE TIRE AND WET VACUUMED THEN DRIED OUT THE WELL. I NOTICED SOME RUST ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WELL AS WELL AS THE RIM OF THE SPARE LEADING ME TO THE CONCLUSION IT HAS BEEN A PERSISTENT PROBLEM. I GOOGLED IT TO FIND THAT MANY OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH DETAILED NOTES OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE. WITH TODAY'S RAIN AS I DROVE TO WORK, I LOOKED IN THE WELL TO FIND ANOTHER INCH OF WATER IN IT.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN 2016 AND HAVE ALWAYS MAINTAINED MY CAR AND NOW THE ENGINE IS BLOWN IT'S MAKING A TICKING NOISE ALL THE OIL WAS GONE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE RD AND IT STARTING MAKING A TICKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD
SENSOR LIGHT ISSUE. CHECK ENGINE, SKID CONTROL, CRUISE CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS REPEATEDLY COME ON. I HAVE REPAIRED IT 3 TIMES TO NO AVAIL. ON LINE THERE ARE 7 YEARS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. MY CRUISE CONTROL, SKID CONTROL ARE NON FUNCTIONING.
SHIFT LINKAGE CORRODES CAUSING LOSS OF SHIFTING ABILITY, INCLUDING PUTTING INTO PARK AND DRIVE. THEY ALREADY HAD A RECALL ON THE SAME PROBLEM CAUSING CORROSION TO THE BRAKE LINES. THIS SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING TO THE SHIFT CABLE LINKAGE
OIL CONSUMPTION - SUBARU DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THERE WAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM OVER 1 QT PER 1200 MILES. SUBARU OF AMERICA WOULD NOT REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY OR OFFER ASSISTANCE AS VEHICLE WAS JUST OVER EXTENDED WARRANTY. 113K MILES AT TIME AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS 8 YEARS OR 100K MILES
ON CHRISTMAS EVE, WHILE DRIVING ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY IN NJ, CAR ENGINE STARTED MAKING LOUD TAPPING NOISES. AS I TRIED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, ENGINE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AND WHEN I FINALLY WAS OFF THE ROAD , THE NOISE TURNED TO BANGING. NO WARNING LIGHTS.BEFORE I COULD TURN OFF THE ENGINE, IT STOPPED ON IT'S OWN. FROM START OF NOISE TO STOP WAS ABOUT 15 SECONDS. THERE WAS OIL ON BOTTOM OF VEHICLE AND NONE IN THE ENGINE. I CHECK THE OIL FREQUENTLY AND HAVE THE CAR DEALER SERVICED FAITHFULLY EVERY 6000 MILES, WHICH IS EVEN LESS THAN SUBARU RECOMMENDED INTERVALS.. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THAT DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND IT WOULD COST $9000 TO REPAIR. THE CAR HAD 117000 MILES ON IT.
FAILED CONSUMPTION OIL TEST. ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED .I WAS TOLD BY SUBARU THAT THEIR WAS NO RECALL .MY SECOND SUBARU FORESTER 2013 HAD SAME PROBLEM AND ITS ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SIERRA SUBARU OF MONROVIA (735 E CENTRAL AVE, MONROVIA, CA 91016, (800)-351-3188) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO PAY $1,000 TOWARDS THE REPAIR COST SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
"TAKATA RECALL" I WAS PARKING MY CAR IN A REGULAR PARKING SPACE.ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB . ONLY A TREE STOPPED THE CAR.THEIR WAS DAMAGE ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR.TWO OTHER TIMES THE CAR JUMPED WHEN I WAS PARKING BUT NOT AS BAD AS WHEN I HIT THE TREE.I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. ALL THREE TIMES I WAS TRYING TO PARK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE HELP OF A POLICE OFFICER. SUBARU OF GWINNETT (2920 SATELLITE BLVD, DULUTH, GEORGIA 30096) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ALSO ASSESSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGINE BURNED OUT ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, METAL FILINGS IN CASE, NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH AT ANY TIME. COME TO FIND OUT THERE IS NO LOW OIL LIGHT IN THIS VEHICLE! PLUS, THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL FOR EXCESS ENGINE OIL USE. SERVICED THIS CAR AT ALL RECOMMENDED INTERVALS AND NEVER LET OIL CHANGES GO BEYOND THE RECOMMENDED MILEAGE. HAVE BEEN VERY FAITHFUL WITH CARING FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE OIL CHANGE WAS NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER 1,000 MILES WHEN THIS OCCURRED. SUBARU DEALERSHIP NEAREST TO WHERE THE ENGINE FAILED WAS UNHELPFUL AS WAS THE NATIONAL SUBARU COMPANY. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN SUBARU'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AS A WHOLE. DID NOT RECEIVE COMMUNICATION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND NO WARNING FROM SERVICE MANAGERS AT ANY TIME DURING SERVICING THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSUMED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,879.
I HAVE A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER 2.5 PREMIUM THAT HAD BEEN CONSUMING AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF OIL EVER SINCE I GOT IT. IT REQUIRES THAT I ADD UP TO 1.2 QTS EVERY 2 MONTHS TO STAY ABOVE THE EMPTY LINE ON THE DIP STICK. MY BROTHER TOLD ME RECENTLY HE HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME SUBARU VEHICLES DURING MY YEAR DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. THEREFORE, I CHECKED MY VIN BOTH ON THIS WEBSITE AND DUBARU'S WEBSITE, BUT IT DIDN'T RETURN ANYTHING REGARDING THE OIL CONSUMPTION. CAN I GET SOME HELP WITH THIS ISSUE AS MY WARRANTY HAD ALREADY EXPIRED AND THIS ISSUE MAY BE GETTING WORSE.
OUR SUBARU FORESTER BEGAN TICKING, LIKE A LIFTER WAS STICKING, AND THE OIL LEVEL OF THE SYNTHETIC OIL WAS PERFECT. THEN THE CAR BEGAN TO HAVE A BURNING SMELL FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR DEALER HUEBUEGER, COLO. SPRINGS, COLORADO. THE TECH INFORMED US THAT THE CAR HAD TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ABOUT THESE ISSUES. THE TECH ALSO SAID THAT A TSB IS ISSUED BY AN AUTO MAKER WHEN THERE IS A GROWING TREND WITH AN UNANTICIPATED PROBLEM, BUT DOES NOT WARRANT A RECALL. HE SAID THE IRREGULAR STAMPING OF CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATES CAUSED THE EVENTUAL TICKING AND LEAKING FROM THE CAMSHAFT CARRIER ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ENGINE AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR VEHICLE NOW WARRANTING A $4,500 REPAIR. SINCE THE ISSUE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A FACTORY DEFECT I CALLED SUBARU SUPPORT EXPECTING FINANCIAL HELP TO RID THE CAR OF THE DEFECT. THE WOMAN WAS VERY OBTUSE AND PRETENDED NOT TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE OF RESPONSIBILITY OF SUBARU. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE REASON FOR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS BEING RELEASED ONLY TO DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS. ISN'T IT LOGICAL AND REASONABLE TO ALERT THE OWNERS OF VEHICLES THAT MAY DEVELOP OIL LEAKS THAT COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE FIRE ? ISN'T SUBARU ADMITTING RESPONSIBILITY BY ISSUING A TSB FOR A GROWING TREND WITH AN UNANTICIPATED PROBLEM. IT SEEMS IRRESPONSIBLE FOR THE NHTSA AND SUBARU NOT TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS THAT COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. PLEASE RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, I AM 69 YEARS OLD AND THIS ISSUE AND THE FINANCIAL STRAIN IS VERY IMPORTANT. THE APPLICABLE COMMUNICATION #"S OF THE TSB IS 02-131-12R OF OCT. 2, 2012, 060000 ENGINE (PWS). SB-11-100 HR, NOVEMBER 27, 2012, IRREGULAR STAMPING OF CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR PLATE. THE BURNING SMELL BECAME OVERPOWERING ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE TECH ADVISES THAT AN OIL LEAK IS COMING FROM THE CAM CARRIERS ON BOTH SIDES DEFECTS
THERE IS AN OIL LEAK IN THE HEAD GASKET AND CAMSHAFT SEAL. THIS CAUSES OIL TO DRIP AND BURN SMOKE. THERE IS A FIRE RISK TO THIS. THE COST OF REPAIRING THIS IS EXTREMELY HIGH. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY PART OF ALL SUBARU FORESTERS OF THIS TIME PERIOD.
CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AT 60,000 MILES WAS DUE TO VALVE SPRING FAILURE. THE VALVE SPRING FAILED DUE TO FATIGUE. FATIGUE INITIATED AT A HIGH STRESS LOCATION NEAR A SUBSURFACE NON-METALLIC SLAG PARTICLE. SURFACE CRACKING WAS NOTED ON THE VALVE SPRING AT LOCATIONS NEAR THE FRACTURE ORIGIN.
THE VEHICLE STALLS IN TRAFFIC AND AT A STOPS, PROBLEM BEGAN IN DECEMBER 2017 AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. IN JANUARY 2018 IT WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED SUBARU DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE 60000 MILE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED, IT CONTINUED TO STALL AND WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS WERE REPLACED AND IT STALLED IN TRAFFIC WHEN IT WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS RETURNED. THE WIRING HARNESS IS NOW BEING REPLACED. SUBARU FIELD TECHNICIANS AND DEALERSHIP TECHNICIANS HAVE TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE.
AFTER 1 YR PURCHASING CAR NEW NOTICED HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION. I WAS TOLD NORMAL WEAR BY DEALER. NOW CATALYTIC CONVERTOR IS GONE DUE TO BURNING OIL. OVER $1500.00 TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE RINGS SO I WON'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE CAT NEXT YEAR. I AM GOING THROUGH 2 + QTS. OF OIL PER 1000 MILES .
TAKATA RECALL: I ASKED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN SAN FRANCISCO TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR, AND THERE IS A 9 TO 12 MONTHS WAIT LIST. THEY ARE BASICALLY REFUSING TO DO THE REPAIRS.
CAM CARRIER OIL SEEPAGE LEAKING ONTO MANIFOLD AND CAUSING OIL SMELL. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE CARS STARTING WITH LITTLE MILEAGE. OIL SEEPS OUT ONTO THE MANIFOLD, AND BURN CAUSING AN OIL SMELL EVERY TIME WE COME TO A STOP, PARTICULARLY DOWNHILL. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING SOUND IN THE ENGINE. DURING ROUTINE INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE TECHNICIAN ADDED THREE QUARTS OF OIL TO THE ENGINE. MID-HUDSON SUBARU (1715 U.S. 9, WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY) WAS CONTACTED, BUT A DIAGNOSTIC WAS NOT PERFORMED DUE TO SCHEDULING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
WHEN I PARKING MY CAR INTO THE PARKING PLACE, THE CAR SUDDENLY GAVE A ROAR AND RUSHED INTO SOMEONE'S BACKYARD. ALTHOUGH I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL AS DEEP AS POSSIBLE, THE CAR RUSHED AROUND 10 METERS(?) AND FULLY STOPPED AFTER THE CAR HIT THE RODS OF WOOD STAIRCASE(TWO OF THE RODS OF STAIRCASE WAS BOKEN BY MY CAR). AT THAT MOMENT I JUST WANT SHIFT THE CAR FROM "D" TO "R" (BUT NOT YET), THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAPPENED TO THIS CAR. TIME: IT HAPPENED BETWEEN 2:30 TO 3:00 PM ON NOV 30, 2017. PLACE: RUSHED INTO THE BACKYARDS OF 8352 KAVANAGH RD, DUNDALK MD 21222, THIS BACKYARDS LOCATED ON SANDY PLAINS ROAD. CONSEQUENCE: 1. SCRATCHS TO FRONT BUMPER. 2. FRONT BUMPER BECAME LOOSE AFTER COLLISION HAPPENED TO THE ROD OF STAIRCASE. 3. I HAVE STIFF MUSCLES ON BOTH THIGHS FOR TWO DAYS AFTER THIS ACCIDENT.
MY 2011 SUBARU FORESTER WITH 65,700 MILES ON IT IS SLUGGISH INTO GEAR WHEN FIRST STARTING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION ($5500+). I THINK THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. I READ IN FORBES THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY (SEE HTTPS://WWW.FORBES.COM/SITES/JENSEN/2017/07/07/FACING-COMPLAINTS-SUBARU-OFFERS-EXTENDED-WARRANTIES-ON-1-5-MILLION-VEHICLES/#662FD3AC79DC) AND WONDER IF THIS COVERS MY VEHICLE?
THE REMOTE STARTER STARTS THE IGNITION AFTER ONE, TWO, THREE, OR 4 PRESSES. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN PORTLAND OREGON AND STOPPED AT A LIGHT, AS I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL I NOTICED AN AWFUL SMELL LIKE BURNING OIL OR TRANNY FLUID. I PICKED UP A FAMILY MEMBERS TO GO TO AN APPOINTMENT AND THEY SMELLED IT ALSO. IT WENT AWAY AS I CONTINUED BUT THEN NEXT HILL AND THE SMELL CAME BACK PRETTY STRONG. I FOUND A SUBARU DEALER/SERVICE DEPT. NEAR BY AND DROVE THERE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT ENGINE SEAL AND CAM CARRIERS WERE LEAKING OIL ONTO THE EXHAUST. I ASKED IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY SAID NOT TOO FAR BECAUSE ITS LEAKING OIL. NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO MY NORMAL SUBARU SERVICE DEPT. AND THEY VERIFIED WHAT THE OTHER SERVICE DEPT. HAD TOLD ME WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SAYING IT WAS OK TO DRIVE IT. THEY COULDN'T GET ME IN FOR AT LEAST A WEEK. MY SUBARU FORESTER ONLY HAS 61,738 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE NEVER MISSED A MAINTENANCE SERVICE. I'M AFRAID NOW BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I LOST MY JOB OF 10 YEARS JUST BEFORE TURNING 62. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE I THOUGHT SUBARU WAS A GOOD LONG LASTING CAR. I'VE LOOKED AND IT APPEARS THAT REPAIRS COULD BE AS MUCH AS $2300. IT ALSO APPEARS FROM MY RESEARCH THAT THESE ENGINES HAVE OIL LEAK PROBLEMS AS WELL AS OTHER SERIOUS ENGINE PROBLEMS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS REPAIR. THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING. WHY ISN'T THERE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FOR THESE ENGINES AND ALL THE MONEY ITS COSTING ALL THESE FOLKS BECAUSE OF FAILURES. I AM A QUALITY REP FOR THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY AND THIS JUST WOULDN'T BE ACCEPTABLE IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V358000 (AIR BAGS). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, A TICKING NOISE EMERGED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE OIL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN STOPPED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE, RAISED THE HOOD, AND OBSERVED SMOKE AROUND THE DIPSTICK. THE CONTACT CHECKED THE OIL AND FOUND THAT THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT IT WAS CLOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE, BUT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE EVALUATED AND THEN DRIVEN 1,200 MILES IN ORDER FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
MY WIFE AND I CURRENTLY OWN A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER WE PURCHASED NEW FROM HATFIELD SUBARU IN COLUMBUS, OHIO. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT SERVICED AT BYERS DUBLIN SUBARU IN COLUMBUS OHIO. AT THE 25,000 MILE MARK BOTH HEAD GASKETS WERE LEAKING SO THE MECHANICS AT BYERS PULLED THE MOTOR AND REPLACED THEM. JUST RECENTLY AT THE 33,000 MILE MARK I BROUGHT IN MY VEHICLE TO BYERS FOR MY 30,000 MAINTENANCE CHECK ALSO COMPLAINING OF A STRANGE NOISE. THEY INFORMED ME THE HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING AGAIN AND THE NOISE WE HEARD WAS THE TRANSMISSION RUNNING LOW ON FLUID. THEY AGAIN PULLED THE MOTOR AND MADE REPAIRS, HOWEVER, WHEN PLACING THE MOTOR BACK IN THE CAR A STRANGE NOISE DEVELOPED IN THE ENGINE, THEY AGAIN PULLED THE MOTOR ADJUSTING THE TENSIONING ON THE TIMING CHAIN YET THE NOISE WAS STILL PRESENT. THEY THEN CONTACTED SUBARU TECHNICAL SUPPORT ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY ARE CURRENTLY PULLING THE MOTOR FOR THE FOURTH TIME WITH THE INTENTION ON REPLACING THE CYLINDER HEADS AND CAM SHAFT. UP UNTIL NOW I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH BOTH DEALERSHIPS EXPRESSING MY CONCERNS. I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE, A SUPERVISOR, AND A MANAGER AT SUBARU OF AMERICA. THE MANAGER AT SUBARU HEADQUARTERS SAID THEY COULD ONLY OFFER ME 2500.00 TOWARDS THE PURCHASE OF A NEW VEHICLE THE MANAGER AT HATFIELD WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE FROM PASSED ME OFF TO A SALES ASSOCIATE WHO ONLY WANTED TO SELL ME A NEW SUBARU AT FULL PRICE TO MEET HIS END OF THE MONTH FEBRUARY SALES QUOTA. THE MANAGER AT BYERS WHERE MY CAR IS BEING SERVICED HAS BEEN LESS THEN FORTH COMING AS TO THE TRUE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM AS TO THE STATUS OF MY VEHICLE AS PROMISED IN THE LAST FOUR BUSINESS DAYS. WHAT CONCERNS ME THE MOST IS MY WIFE AND I NOW OWN A SUBARU WITH A LONG LIST OF ENGINE PROBLEMS SO EARLY IN ITS LIFE AND A TRANSMISSION WHICH HAS BEEN EX
ABNORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION WHICH IS OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION LAWSUIT. THE OIL WARNING LIGHTS DID NOT TURN BUT THE CAR WAS ALREADY OUT OF OIL IN 3 MONTHS OF USE (SUPPOSEDLY 6 MONTH WINDOW FOR OIL CHANGES). THE CAR STARTED TO BECOME JERKY BUT STILL MANAGED TO GET HOME AND HAD IT CHECKED. IF THERE ARE NO WARNING SIGNS, IT IS POSSIBLE IT CAN DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

TAKATA RECALL: I WAS NOTIFIED ON JULY 27, 2016 BY SUBARU THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN MY VEHICLE. TAKATA RECALL. MY SUBARU DEALER IS TELLING ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS / AIR BAG IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL END OF YEAR. THEY DIRECTED ME TO THEIR 1-800 NUMBER BUT I KEEP ON BEING PLACE ON HOLD AND CAN'T GET THRU. I HAVE A FAMILY OF 4 AND IT'S BEEN EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT TO NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE SIT A FRONT PASSENGER. WHEN WILL THE PARTS BE AVAILABLE? WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS AS A VEHICLE OWNER? IS THERE ANYWAY TO EXPEDITE THE REPLACEMENT?
TAKATA RECALL NO RESPONSE FROM SUBARU. I CANNOT HAVE A FRONT SEAT PASSANGER-POSSIBLE INJURY OR DEATH. WHAT CAN I DO?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE EMITTED A STRONG BURNING ODOR AND SMOKE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL ON THE MANIFOLD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE INTAKE MANIFOLD, VALVE COVER GASKET, CAMSHAFT, SPARKS PLUGS, AND ENGINE COVER SEALS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE ENGINE OIL CONTINUED TO LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL THAT CONTINUES DOWN TO FLOOR AFTER PRESSURE APPLIED ; ESPECIALLY WHEN ENGINE COLD OR WHEN ON AN INCLINE. FIRST BROUGHT TO SUBARU OF NEW BERN, N.C. ON AUGUST 8, 2016 WHERE THEY REPLACED BRAKE FLUID. PROBLEM CONTINUED; ON SEPT. 13, 2016 THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED UNDER EXTENTED WARRANTEE. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS; SERVICE MANAGER DROVE CAR AND AGREED WITH MY COMPLAINT. HE ALSO DROVE A 2015 MODEL AND SAME THING HAPPENED. ON SEPT. 27TH, MANAGER AUTHORIZED REPLACEMENT AGAIN OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND VACUUM BOOSTER PUMP. PARTS ORDERED. TODAY IS OCTOBER 11TH, AND NO PARTS RECEIVED YET. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING OIL AT A HIGHER RATE THAN NORMAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING A QUARTER OF OIL EVERY THOUSAND MILES, WHICH CAUSED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TO SURPASS SUGGESTED AMOUNTS BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL FROM THE PCV VALVE, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BURN OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED OTHER LEAKS WERE THE CAUSE; HOWEVER, THE LOCATIONS WERE NOT SPECIFIED. THE DEALER PLACED A SHORT BLOCK ENGINE INTO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A PENDING LAWSUIT RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 938.
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL SEVERAL WEEKS AGO AND TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE NOTIFICATION TOLD ME NOT TO USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL WHENEVER THE PARTS MIGHT BECOME AVAILABLE (WHEN? MONTHS? YEARS?). MEANWHILE I CANNOT USE THE VEHICLE AS INTENDED AS A 5 SEAT FAMILY CAR. IS THIS NOT A VIOLATION OF IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY? I WANT TO USE THE CAR FOR THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH IS WAS SOLD AND NOT BE TOLD THAT I HAVE TO STOP USING IT FOR THAT PURPOSE WITH NO INDICATION OF WHEN, IF EVER, THIS PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. SUBARU NEEDS TO STEP UP AND GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF.

TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM SUBARU REGARDING MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. THE NOTICE INCLUDED A NOTE THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS UNSAFE FOR USE UNTIL THE AIRBAG HAS BEEN REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE NOTICE ALSO STATED THAT NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO REACH SUBARU 'CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE' ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND AM UNABLE TO REACH ANY REPRESENTATIVE BY PHONE. I HAVE EMAILED THE SAME OFFICE AND, SO FAR, HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. WHEN I CALLED THE LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO UPDATE ON WHEN REPLACEMENT PARTS MIGHT BE AVAILABLE BUT THEY ANTICIPATE IT COULD BE "A FEW MONTHS". IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE A CAR THAT IS UNSAFE FOR NORMAL USE, AND A MANUFACTURER THAT IS BOTH UNABLE TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND SEEMINGLY UNWILLING TO ANSWER QUESTIONS REGARDING THE ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN VISOR FRACTURED AND DISTRACTED THE DRIVER BRIEFLY. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. VEHICLES HORN STARTED ALARMING AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. VEHICLE WAS MOVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. PASSERBY ATTEMPTED TO HELP THE DRIVER BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND THE HORN STILL SOUNDED. A SECOND PERSON HELPED REMOVE A FUSE WHICH FINALLY STOPPED THE HORN. WE THEN HAD TO DRIVE WITHOUT A NEEDED HORN. A DEALER WAS NOTIFIED FOR REPAIR. THE REPAIR, TO OUR GREAT SURPRISE, REQUIRED A NEW AIRBAG INSTALLED AS WELL AS THE AIRBAG-HORN SWITCH. THIS REPAIR WAS TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE. MANY CALLS WERE MADE INCLUDING TO OUR OWN DEALER IN THE NE. ALL AGREED TO THE REPAIR DIAGNOSIS GIVEN. THE AIRBAG HAD TO BE TRUCK SHIPPED TO OUR LOCATION, REQUIRING AN EXTENDED STAY AT A LODGING. THE ACTUAL REPAIR WAS VERY SPEEDY. TO OUR GRATEFUL SURPRISE, SUBARU DID NOT CHARGE US FOR THE REPLACEMENT AIR-BAG OR HORN-SWITCH. THERE WAS AT NO TIME ANY CAR IMPACT STARTING THIS WHOLE EVENT. THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT HAD TO BE DONE AS WE WERE IN FL AND HAD 1500 MILES TO TRAVEL...NOT VIABLE WITH NO HORN OR DRIVER AIRBAG. THIS WAS A 2011 FORESTER WITH LOW MILEAGE.
MY SUBARU IS BEING TESTED FOR OIL CONSUMPTION USE, I RETURNED WITH 1 1/2 QUART LOW AFTER 948 MILES. TECH STATED IT WAS ON FULL AFTER IT WAS TAKEN TO GARAGE. IT WAS NOT CHECKED IN OUR PRESENCE. CAR HAS NO OIL SENSOR AND I FEAR THE MOTOR WILL LOCK UP & I DO NOT TRUST THE SUBARU DEALER NOW SINCE THEY DENIED ADDING OIL.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE SUN VISOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FELL ON ITS OWN, OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW. WHEN I PUSHED IT BACK UP IT PROMPTLY FELL BACK DOWN - IT WOULD NOT STAY IN ANY OTHER POSITION BUT HANGING STRAIGHT DOWN. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND GET A SCREW DRIVER TO REMOVE THE VISOR TO KEEP IT FROM OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW. NOW MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR IS STARTING TO NOT STAY COMPLETELY UP AGAINST THE CEILING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN TWO WAYS, ONE BECAUSE IT DOES NOT STAY UP AND OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW, AND TWO IT CAN NOT BE USED AS A SUN VISOR (AS INTENDED) TO KEEP THE SUN FROM BLINDING ME. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY FOUR-YEARS OLD; I DID CONTACT THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL, AND IT IS NOT COVERED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. SINCE BOTH OF MY VISORS APPEAR TO BE BAD, I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW AND A LOT OF VEHICLES WILL START HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
ON JUNE 8 2015 I ATTENDED A MEETING. WHEN THE MEETING ENDED AT 8 PM, IT WAS RAINING HARD. I HURRIED TO THE CAR, OPENED THE DRIVER?S DOOR WITH MY LEFT HAND AND SMACKED THE CORNER OF THE DOOR INTO MY LEFT EYEBROW. THE BLEEDING WAS SUBSTANTIAL, DRIPPING LARGE DROPS ONTO THE GROUND AND ONTO MY DRESS. A STRANGER STOPPED, ADVISING ME TO KEEP CONTINUAL PRESSURE ON THE WOUND UNTIL IT STOPPED BLEEDING. EVENTUALLY IT DID SO AND I DROVE HOME ONE-HANDED WITH THE OTHER KEEPING PRESSURE ON MY FOREHEAD. SINCE THE BLEEDING HAD ENDED, A PRESSURE BANDAGE KEPT IT STOPPED FOR THE NIGHT. THE BLACK EYE HAS FADED. THERE IS NO PERMANENT DAMAGE EXCEPT FOR A 5/8" SCAR ACROSS MY EYEBROW AND A RUINED DRESS. INSPECTING THE DOOR THE NEXT MORNING, I REALIZED THE CORNER OF THE DOOR COMES TO AN ACUTE ANGLE. THE DOOR ITSELF IS WEATHERSTRIPPED AND HAS A RUBBER GASKET. BUT THE EXPOSED METAL CORNER OF THE DOOR HAS NO PROTECTION. IT IS TOTALLY EXPOSED! I HAVE THE MISFORTUNE OF BEING A 5?8? FEMALE WHOSE EYE HEIGHT MEETS THE CORNER OF THE DOOR. I ALSO HAVE THE MISFORTUNE OF BEING LEFT-HANDED SO I OPEN THE DOOR WITH MY PRIMARY HAND. (OPENING A DRIVER?S DOOR WITH THE RIGHT HAND OFFERS SOME PROTECTION BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE ARM.) SUBSEQUENT TO THIS EVENT, I WROTE SUBARU CORPORATE AS WELL AS THE LOCAL DEALER. THEIR REPLY THANKED ME FOR SUGGESTING A DESIGN CONCEPT (I THINK THAT WAS THE PHRASE). A 'GOODY BOX' FROM SUBARU ARRIVED SHORTLY THEREAFTER.
AS I WAS PULLING INTO A HEAD ON PARKING SPACE, I BEGAN TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PUMP MY BRAKES AND STOP THE CAR. A WITNESS WHO WAS SITTING ON A BENCH NEARBY SAID HE HEARD MY CARBURETOR REV. I AM NOW SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:14V311000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A DEALER, BUT THE REMEDY WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHILE THE CONTACT'S FOOT WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S OIL CONSUMPTION WAS EXCESSIVE AND THAT THE ENGINE OIL WOULD BE DEPLETED MULTIPLE TIMES PER WEEK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I AM THE CARE TAKER AND SON OF THIS CAR'S ELDERLY OWNER AND DRIVER, AND I JUST GOT A SECOND RECALL NOTICE (14V-830) THAT SAYS, "DUE TO INCOMPLETE REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED TO OUR RETAILERS, YOUR VEHICLE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH THE PROPER AMOUNT OF ANTI-CORROSION MATERIAL" (REFERRING TO FIRST RECALL REPAIR).THE RECALL ALSO SAYS TO CONTACT YOUR WEBSITE "IF YOU BELIEVE THE SUBARU RETAILER HAS FAILED OR IS UNABLE TO REMEDY YOUR VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGE WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME." IT WILL NOT BE WITHOUT A CHARGE, THAT IS, COST TO ME. LIKE RECALL ONE I WILL HAVE TO TAKE OFF WORK AND LOSE PAY AND SPEND THE TIME AND EXPENSE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO AND FROM THE DEALER, ALL BECAUSE OF SUBARU'S IMPROPER MANUFACTURING (RECALL ONE) AND POOR EXECUTION OF THE SUPPOSED REPAIR (RECALL TWO). THEREFORE SUBARU CORP SHOULD PAY ME OR MY MOTHER, OR PAY THE DEALER TO PAY ME FOR THE EXPENSES I WILL INCUR FOR THE "WITHOUT CHARGE" REPAIR. AMOUNT REQUESTED IS $50. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2011 SUBARU FORESTER USED FROM A DEALERSHIP IN NY. I STARTED NOTICING THAT IT WAS BURNING THROUGH OIL. I TOOK IT TO A SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE AND THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. SUBARU DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE THOUGH SO I HAVE TO MAKE A CLAIM ON MY WARRANTY AND OF COURSE THEY HAVE FOUND A LOOP HOLE TO NOT COVER THE REPAIR (PISTON RINGS ARE DAMAGED DUE TO FAULTY CYLINDER WALLS AND, CONVENIENTLY, THE CYLINDER WALLS ARE NOT CONSIDERED AN INTERNAL PART SO THE WARRANTY WON'T COVER). NOW I'M LEFT WITH EITHER REPLACING MY ENGINE OR TAKING A LARGE HIT ON MY TRADE-IN VALUE. HAD I KNOWN THAT I WOULD'VE BEEN REPLACING THE ENGINE LESS THAN 2 YEARS AFTER BUYING THE CAR I WOULD'VE NEGOTIATED A MUCH LOWER PRICE FOR THE CAR OR WENT WITH A DIFFERENT MAKE/MODEL. I CANNOT AFFORD TO REPLACE AN ENGINE OR BUY A NEW CAR, I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE THAN TO CONTINUE TO POUR OIL INTO THIS CAR AND HOPE THAT I DON'T BREAK DOWN ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR BACK ROADS DURING MY 60 MILE COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK OR WHEN I HAVE MY CHILD IN THE CAR. *TR
WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECOME INOPERABLE IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES AND SNOWSTORMS. WIPER BLADES FREEZE AND WILL NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD. SNOW AND ICE GATHER IN THE TROUGH WHERE THE BLADES REST AND BLOCK FLUID. WARMING FEATURE WILL NOT CLEAR THIS PROBLEM AS THE SNOW AND ICE CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE IN THIS AREA. SALT CANNOT BE CLEARED FROM THE WINDSHIELD EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS FULLY WARMED UP AND THE WIPER WARMING FEATURE IS ACTIVATED. THE REAR WIPER ASSEMBLY ALSO FREEZES AND ACCUMULATES LARGE ICE CHUNKS. MY VISIBILITY BECOMES IMPAIRED BY OVER 75% CAUSING AN EXTREME HAZARD. *TR
WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL) IS ACTIVATED BY AN EMISSION CONTROL FAILURE SUBARU HAS PROGRAMMED A SHUT DOWN OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (AS WELL AS SHUT DOWN OF CRUISE CONTROL). THIS ABS SHUT DOWN COULD OCCUR FOR A SIMPLE LOOSE GAS CAP WHICH IS COMMON CAUSE OF CEL FAILURE. THE SECTION 3-16 ON CEL WARNING LIGHT/MALFUNCTION INDICATOR DOES NOT INFORM THE OWNER THAT A CEL EVENT WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE DISABLING OF THE ABS. THE DRIVER FINDS THIS OUT ONLY BECAUSE THE CEL IS ACCOMPANIED BY BLINKING CRUISE LIGHT AND STEADILY ILLUMINATED ABS LIGHT. PER OWNER MANUAL SECTION 7-23 FOR 2011 FORESTER WHEN THE ABS IS DISABLED THE CAR/DRIVER/PASSENGERS ARE A RISK OF LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND DIRECTIONAL STABILITY. THREE CEL EVENTS OCCURRED FROM JUNE 2013 TO DECEMBER 2014 FOR SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE THERMOSTAT WAS NOT TO BE REPLACED PER SERVICE BULLETIN 09-56-13/10/21/13 UNTIL ECM RE-PROGRAMMING OCCURRED. THEREFORE I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE WITHOUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM 3 TIMES 6/13; 8/14 AND 12/14 UNTIL REPAIRS COULD BE SCHEDULED. I AM REQUESTING THAT SUBARU NOT BE ALLOWED TO DISABLE THE ABS FOR CEL/EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. THIS IS BECAUSE I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE UNPREDICTABLE CEL EVENTS SOME DURING WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR WHICH ABS FUNCTION WAS CRITICAL. THE THERMOSTAT AND GASKET ASSEMBLY WEE REPLACED.

WHILE BACKING UP (CAR IN REVERSE) AT ABOUT 5 MPH, ACCELERATION OCCURRED MAKING THE CAR GO BACKWARDS VERY FAST. PRESSING THE BRAKE PAD TO THE GROUND HAD NO AFFECT. THE CAR, REVERSING OUT OF CONTROL, SIDE-SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. CAR FINALLY BACKED UP INTO A HUGE FORKLIFT WHICH WENT THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW AND STOPPED THE CAR. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT THE SUBARU FORESTER WAS TOTALED. *TR

ENGINE BEGAN MAKING LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. I PULLED OFF AND PARKED AND CALLED FOR TOW TRUCK. DEALER SERVICE REPORTS THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 63,000 MILES AND GETS REGULAR MAINTENANCE. EACH TIME I HAVE THE OIL CHANGED, THE ENGINE IS A QUART LOW. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. THIS IS HARD TO BELIEVE FOR A MODERN VEHICLE WITH REDUCED (PARTIAL ZERO) EMISSIONS. I CHECK THE OIL REGULARLY AND AM SHOCKED THAT SUBARU SELLS CARS WITH ENGINES THAT BARELY LIVE PAST THE 60000 MILE DRIVE-TRAIN WARRANTY. SOMETHING IS FUNDAMENTALLY DEFECTIVE WITH THE DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF SUBARU'S ENGINES IF THIS IS HOW THEY ARE ENGINEERED TO PERFORM. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AND MANY OTHER SUBARU OWNERS ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I AM FORTUNATE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE SAFELY. SUCH A SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE COULD VERY EASILY HAVE ENDED IN A CRASH. *TR
MY CAR WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT BEHIND AT LEAST 2 OTHER CARS AT AROUND 4:45 P.M. ON 9-8-14. MY ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED RACING AND PULLING MY CAR TOWARD THE CAR SITTING IN FRONT OF MINE. I ALREADY HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE BECAUSE I WAS STOPPED. I PRESSED EVEN HARDER ON THE BRAKE AS THE CAR TOOK OFF OUT OF MY CONTROL. THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AND MY CAR CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF MINE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN TO QUEENS TO SEE MY WIFE'S FAMILY AND AS SOON AS I PASSED A TRUCK I HEARD SOMETHING HIT MY CAR. AS SOON AS I GOT INTO LONG ISLAND, I HEARD THE ENGINE REVVING AS IF IT WERE A DIESEL ENGINE. I STOPPED AT A SHOP AND THEY LISTENED TO IT AND SAID THAT IT IS AN INTERNAL ISSUE IN THE ENGINE AND NOT TO DRIVE IT. THEY HELPED ME OUT BY FINDING THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP AND THEY CALLED. THE GUY FROM THE SHOP CALLED SUBARU AND THEY TOLD HIM TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR SHOP. THAT WAS MESSED UP, HAVE A NON PARTY CALL FOR A TOW?? THEN THE GUY TAKING MY ORDER, DIDN'T GIVE ME A RECEIPT NOR MY COPIES OF THE SERVICES FROM THE PAST. I HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH I AM ENTITLED TO A RENTAL CAR BUT WAS STUCK WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND NEEDED A VEHICLE TO GET BACK TO WORK WHICH I LIVE 3-1/2 HOURS AWAY FROM THE SHOP AND NOW I AM STUCK PAYING FOR TOLLS AND HAVE A HOLD ON MY CREDIT CARD BECAUSE OF SUBARU. ON FRIDAY I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD CALL, I HAD TO CALL BECAUSE THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK. THEN THEY TELL ME THAT IT IS THE ENGINE AND THEY HAVE TO DROP THE OIL PAN ON MONDAY. THE WORST THING IS THAT I HAD REPORTED ENGINE PROBLEMS AT 47,000 MILES WHICH I HAVE IT DOCUMENTED FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOTHING.... JUST LIKE ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS I HAD WITH MY WINDOW IN THE PAST... AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON IN THE PAST.... NOW AFTER THIS MAJOR ISSUE THEY WANT MORE PAPERWORK... THIS IS JUST MESSED UP. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS CONSUMING/ BURNING OIL RAPIDLY, ADDING IN 2-4 QUARTS BETWEEN RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGES. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE UNDER ENGINE TO SUGGEST A LEAK. I CALLED BOARDMAN SUBARU REGARDING RECALL ISSUED ON BRAKE LINE AND SPOKE TO THEIR SERVICE DEPT. MANAGER. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP ON JUNE 3RD FOR KNOCKING SOUND,I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE WHICH WAS REPLACED, CAR PICKED UP JUNE 10 AFTER REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. WHILE DRIVING ON JUNE 10TH IN THE EVENING, THE CAR BEGAN TO BUCK AND KICK AND NOT RESPOND TO PUSHING ON GAS PEDAL, AT ONE POINT STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND THEN SLOWED DOWN, PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTED THAT BLACK SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE SEEN COMING OUT FROM HOOD. CAR BURNED SIGNIFICANTLY WHILE FIREFIGHTERS TRIED TO PUT IT OUT. *TR
MY WIFE'S CAR LOCKED ITSELF WITH KEYS AND BABY INSIDE ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN WINTER (DON'T REMEMBER THE DATE) AND OUR BABY WAS LOCKED IN THE COLD CAR FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR WHILE WE WAITED FOR AAA. MY WIFE THOUGHT SHE HAD SOMEHOW KNEELED ON THE KEY/REMOTE IN HER HANDBAG WHILE PUTTING THE BABY IN HIS CAR SEAT. SINCE THEN SHE HAS TAKEN CARE NOT TO TOUCH THE KEY (AND REMOTE) BEFORE SHE GETS IN THE CAR TO DRIVE. TODAY SHE PLACED THE KEY/REMOTE ON THE FRONT SEAT, THEN PUT THE BABY IN THE CAR SEAT (IN BACK), CLOSED THE BACK DOOR, AND THE CAR LOCKED ITSELF WITH HER OUTSIDE AND THE BABY INSIDE. AAA ARRIVED QUICKLY AND OPENED THE CAR. THE AAA GUY SAID HE HAS HAD MORE SUBARUS WITH DRIVERS LOCKED OUT THAN ANY OTHER MAKE. I ALSO SPOKE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE SUBARU DEALER WHO SOLD US THE CAR ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS MODEL YEAR HAD EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM FAIRLY OFTEN, AND THAT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED IN SUBSEQUENT MODELS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO SUBARU CORP CUSTOMER SERVICE--THEIR CASE NUMBER IS [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES HAVE MALFUNCTIONED FOR ME NUMEROUS TIMES AND I WILL NOW ONLY DRIVE MY SUBARU (DESPITE ALL WHEEL DRIVE, WHICH WORKS WELL) WHEN ROAD CONDITIONS ARE GOOD. ACCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING MID-DAY ON PLOWED BUT SNOWY ROAD; DOWNHILL; I WAS NOT TURNING, BUT WANTED TO GO MORE SLOWLY AND TAPPED BRAKES. ANTI LOCK BRAKES KICKED IN AND CAR BEGAN TO SKID; SKIDDED OFF ROAD AND INTO A MAILBOX; NEEDED TO BE TOWED OUT. AFTER BEING PULLED OUT, AND CONTINUING DOWN HILL, AT 10 MPH, CAR BEGAN TO SKID AGAIN. FRIEND FOLLOWING ME SAID IT APPEARED FRONT BRAKES WERE WORKING AND BACK BRAKES WERE NOT. HAD TWO MECHANICS LOOK AT THE BRAKES (ONE I TRUST AND THE DEALER) AND BOTH TOLD ME THEY ARE FINE. DEALER SAID THE COMPUTER RECORD DIDN'T RECORD A PROBLEM BUT I THINK SOFTWARE THAT MANAGES THE ABS IS MALFUNCTIONING. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW NUMEROUS BLOG DISCUSSIONS ABOUT DISCONNECTING ABS ON SUBARUS IN WINTER SO I THINK OTHERS MUST BE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS - FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT GOING VERY FAST AND THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS/PEDESTRIANS SO NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAVE DRIVEN A SUBARU FOR 13 YEARS IN ALL KINDS OF CONDITIONS SO I DON'T THINK IT IS ME NOT BEING ABLE TO HANDLE ABS. ABS PROBLEM OCCURS IN CONDITIONS WHEN I THINK AWD IS HELPFUL BUT I NEED TO SLOW DOWN -- HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH AWD WHEN I AM GOING UPHILL OR NOT BRAKING. *TR
MY HUSBAND PURCHASED A NEW SUBARU FORESTER IN MAY OF 2011 FOR ME WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 7 YEARS. IT WAS A BIG INVESTMENT FOR US AND I HAD HOPED TO DRIVE MY NEW SUBARU FORESTER 2011 FOR SEVERAL YEARS DOWN THE ROAD. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING IT, I NOTICED THE BRAKES TO BE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE IN A TIMELY FASHION OR QUICKLY ENOUGH. I TOLD MY HUSBAND ALL THE TIME, WHO ALSO HAPPENS TO DRIVE MY CAR, ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT ITS BRAKES. I HAD MY VEHICLE REGULARLY SERVICED AS PER THE COMPANIES WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS AND AT ONLY AUTHORIZED SUBARU SERVICE & DEALERSHIP CENTERS. I RECENTLY TOLD THE SERVICE DEPT AT MY 30,000 MILE SERVICING ABOUT THE BRAKES ISSUES I HAD AGAIN, TO THEIR ATTENTION BUT THEY SAID THAT- 'THAT WAS THE WAY THE FORESTER'S BRAKES WERE AND THAT I HAD TO PUSH THE PEDAL HARD TO THE FLOOR(PUMP THE BRAKES) TO STOP IT QUICKLY ENOUGH" AND MY BRAKES WERE FINE ACCORDING 30,000 MILE SERVICING, AND I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR RESPONSE I WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL ROAD 25 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE SUDDENLY APPEARED IN FRONT OF ME TO STOP TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. I PUSHED THE BRAKES BUT MY VEHICLE JUST WOULD NOT STOP QUICKLY ENOUGH. I WAS INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. TO DISCOVER THAT MY FRONT BUMPER NOW HAD A HUGE CRACK IN IT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE WHOSE BRAKES ARE SO BAD THAT IT WILL NOT STOP THE VEHICLE QUICKLY ENOUGH AND NEEDS TO BE PUMPED TO STOP IT SOONER(WHICH MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE IN MANY CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH AS THE ONE ABOVE) , .AFTER THE CAR CAME OUT FROM THE BODY SHOP I HAD A RECENT OCCURENCE BUT THIS TIME IT WAS A RAINY DAY I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN PRESSING THE BRAKE TO TURN TO MY ROAD WHICH I HAD THE SAME ISSUE, INSTEAD OF STOPPING OR SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES ARE ACCELERATING. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE BRAKES AT THE VERY LEAST TO PREVENT FUTURE ACCIDENTS. I AM DETERMINED TO TRADE IN MY VEHICLE FOR SAFE CAR.
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE, APPLIED MY BRAKES AND WAS ABOUT TO PUT MY 2011 SUBARU FORESTER INTO PARK WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD AND DROVE INTO A STORE FRONT. THE CAR TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET BEFORE HITTING THE WALL AND PLATE GLASS WINDOW. MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. *TR
TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR 30K MAINTENANCE. WHEN I PICKED IT UP DEALER HAD CHANGED BRAKE FLUID (BRAKES HAD BEEN FUNCTIONING PERFECTLY PRIOR). WHEN LEAVING DEALER LOT BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND I WENT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY ONCOMING VEHICLE DODGED ME. I PUMPED PEDAL AND GOT BRAKES AND WENT BACK INTO DEALERSHIP. THEY BLED BRAKES AND SAID IT WAS READY. WHEN BACKING OUT OF SPACE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN WENT TO FLOOR BUT VEHICLE STOPPED. I CALLED A SERVICE WRITER OVER AND SHOWED HIM PEDAL ON FLOOR. I LEFT CAR AND NEW MASTER CYLINDER WAS ORDERED AND INSTALLED NEXT DAY. I WENT TO PICK UP VEHICLE AND AGAIN PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND I HAD ANOTHER SERVICE WRITER WITNESS IT. TOOK PIC WITH CELL PHONE. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO FLOOR IF ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AND WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. I TOLD HIM ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND BRAKE PEDAL SHOULD NEVER GO TO FLOOR IF ENGINE RUNNING OR NOT. IF BOOSTER BLEEDS DOWN PEDAL MAY GO SOMEWHAT LOWER THAN NORMAL. PEDAL HAD NEVER WENT ANYWHERE NEAR FLOOR BEFORE. I REFUSED TO DRIVE CAR AS I DEEMED IT DANGEROUS. IF PEDAL WAS PUMPED IT WOULD COME TO NORMAL POSITION. HE FINALLY AGREED TO CONTACT SUBARU REPRESENTATIVE TO LOOK AT IT NEXT WEEK. IF I HAD NOT HAD MECHANICAL BACKGROUND AND HAD LISTENED TO HIM AND DROVE A CAR WHERE THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY GO TO FLOOR WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN THE RESULTS? AT NO TIME EVEN AFTER I MENTIONED IT WAS THE ABS SYSTEM CHECKED FOR AIR TO MY KNOWLEDGE. NORMAL BLEEDING AT WHEELS WILL NOT REMOVE AIR FROM MASTER CYLINDER OR ABS SYSTEM. NOTE: BY "PEDAL GOING TO FLOOR" THE PEDAL ARM HITS FLOOR/CARPET AND PEDAL CAN GO NO LOWER. I AM WAITING FOR THE SUBARU REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT CAR AT THIS POINT. I EMAILED SUBARU, BUT THEY DID NOT SEEMED TOO CONCERNED. *JS
PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A LOCAL TRAIN STATION. CAR WAS STOPPED AND SHUT OFF. NOT SURE IF KEYS WERE IN IGNITION OR NOT. WHEN REACHING OVER TO GET HANDBAG AND TOTE I HEARD THE ENGINE REV UP VERY SUDDENLY AND LOUDLY, CAR JUMPED 6" CURB AND PROPELLED FORWARD ABOUT TWO FEET WHEN RIGHT FRONT BUMPER HIT TREE AND CAR STOPPED. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND I WAS NOT INJURED. BEFORE I EVEN KNEW ABOUT THIS WEBSITE I TOLD THE ADJUSTER AND THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR TOOK OFF ON ITS OWN. THE ONLY REACTION I GOT WAS STRANGE LOOKS. TOLD BY BODY SHOP THAT CAR WAS "TOTALLY FIXABLE" WITHIN TWO WEEKS. $7,000 IN BODY WORK 3 WEEKS LATER WAS TOLD ENGINE WAS "RUNNING ROUGH" AND IT WAS SENT TO SUBARU DEALER WHERE PURCHASED. TOLD THAT ENGINE HAD TO BE REBUILT - MACHINING HEAD; VALVE REPLACEMENT; NEW GASKETS ETC. FIVE WEEKS LATER SUBARU STILL HAS MY CAR. ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO PRIOR TO KNOWING ABOUT THIS WEBSITE AND SEEING HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM I ORDERED A NEW SUBARU USING THIS ONE AS A TRADE IN. SUBARU WON'T GIVE ME A TRADE IN VALUE UNTIL CAR IS FIXED AND THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR FIVE WEEKS AND STILL HAVEN'T FIXED IT. I LIVE IN THE SUBURBS AM 62 YEARS OLD AND I'VE BEEN TAKING TRAINS, BUSES, MY BIKE AND WALKING TO GET TO WORK AND TO DO EVERYDAY ERRANDS. NO OFFER OF A LOANER FROM SUBARU ALTHOUGH I'VE ASKED TWICE. CONTACTED CORPORATE SUBARU AND REPORTED WHAT I READ ON THIS WEBSITE AND MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE HARD TO PROVE. LAST WEEK CORPORATE SAID THEY WOULD TRY TO OFFER ASSISTANCE WITH THE PURCHASE OF THE NEW CAR IN THE WAY OF LOYALTY INCENTIVE. AS OF TODAY I HAVE NO CAR, NO IDEA WHEN OR IF THE OLD ONE WILL BE FIXED, HOW MUCH IT WILL BE WORTH AS A TRADE IN, A NEW CAR THAT I CAN'T HAVE AND THAT HAS NO DEFINITIVE PRICE, AND A LOT OF TALK BUT NO ACTION FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND CORPORATE SUBARU. *TR
DRIVER (ADULT FEMALE) WAS BACKING UP TO PARK WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. DRIVER LIFTED FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND HIT THE BRAKE. VEHICLE ACCELERATED EVEN MORE. CRASHED INTO A GUY WIRE ON AN ELECTRIC POLE, SNAPPING OFF THE TOP OF THE POLE. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE SECOND DRIVER (ADULT MALE) WAS BACKING UP IN THE DRIVEWAY TO TURN AROUND. CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. SECOND DRIVER NOW A BELIEVER. *TR
AFTER OWNING 3 OTHER SUBARUS, WE FIGURED IT WAS A GREAT IDEA TO BUY A 4TH. WELL, SUBARU HAS CHANGED THE ENGINE DESIGN ENOUGH WHERE AS THE OIL NEEDED IS A SUPER LIGHT WEIGHT SYNTHETIC 0W20. AFTER ABOUT 2000 MILES CONSISTENTLY, THE CAR WILL ALWAYS NEED OIL. WE HAVE 40,000 ON IT NOW AND AFTER MULTIPLE OIL CHANGES THE CAR STILL USES WAY TOO MUCH OIL. NOT A GREAT CHOICE OF A CAR IS WHAT I AM THINKING NOW. SOMEONE NEEDS TO STEP IN FROM THE NHTSA AND DETERMINE WHY A NEW CAR WOULD BE LOSING OIL AS FAST AS THE SUBARU DOES. I HAVE READ OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. MAYBE IT IS TIME TO START AN ONLINE PETITION TO HELP NUDGE NHTSA AND SUBARU. *TR
ON THE LAST TWO DATES THIS VEHICLE STARTED UP BY ITSELF WITHOUT INPUT FROM KEY OR REMOTE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNLOCKED BY REMOTE WHICH IS THE MANUFACTURER REMOTE. THE DOOR WAS OPENED THEN THE "LOCK" BUTTON IN THE DOOR WAS PRESSED AND THE DOOR CLOSED. AFTER THE DOOR WAS SHUT THE ENGINE STARTED UP. THIS HAPPENED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ON OTHER OCCASIONS THE ENGINE WOULD STILL KEEP RUNNING EVEN THOUGH THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THIS VEHICLE WAS FITTED WITH A REMOTE STARTER BY THE DEALER (NOT FACTORY). THE REMOTE START WAS CHANGED TWICE, I'M ON THE THIRD SET. THE DEALER ASKED ME TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE AGAIN ON FRIDAY MARCH 29TH SO THAT THE REMOTE START INSTALLER CAN LOOK AT IT AGAIN. ORIGINALLY WHEN THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING I WOULD HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE WIRE FROM THE BATTERY TO STOP THE ENGINE AS EVERYTHING ELSE FAILED TO STOP IT. SUBSEQUENTLY WHEN THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING IT WOULD ONLY BE SHUT OFF WITH THE REMOTE STARTER. THIS PROBLEM STILL KEEPS HAPPENING OCCASIONALLY. *TR
PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT THE CVS DRUG STORE, PINE ISLAND RD AND DEL PRADO BLVD IN CAPE CORAL FL., PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS ON ACROSS THE PARKING LOT, HITTING A PARKED CAR HEAD ON. MY AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND MY CAR HIT THE PARKED CAR SO HARD IT DROVE IT OVER A CONCRETE BARRIER OUT OF THE LOT. THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR ALONE WAS $10,000. THE OTHER CAR WAS DESTROYED. I HAVE HAD SUBARU CARS FOR 33 YEARS. THIS FORESTER WAS MY 8TH SUBARU. WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED, I WAS THROWN BACK, MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE BRAKE OR GAS PEDAL. THE CAR KEPT RUNNING AFTER THE ACCIDENT UNTIL I TURNED IT OFF. STATE FARM INSURANCE SENT A SAFETY DIRECTOR OVER TO CHECK THE CAR (AFTER IT WAS FIXED), THE BODY SHOP ALSO HAD AN INSPECTOR CHECK THE CODES ON THE COMPUTER. I GOT RID OF THE CAR EVEN THOUGH IT HAD IT HAVE 11 MONTHS ON THE LEASE BECAUSE I DID NOT TRUST IT. *TR
I HAD PURCHASED A NEW SUBARU FORESTER IN AUGUST OF 2011 WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 7 YEARS. IT WAS A BIG INVESTMENT FOR ME AND I HAD HOPED TO DRIVE MY NEW SUBARU FORESTER 2011 FOR SEVERAL YEARS DOWN THE ROAD. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING IT, I NOTICED THE BRAKES TO BE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE IN A TIMELY FASHION OR QUICKLY ENOUGH. MY WIFE, WHO ALSO HAPPENS TO DRIVE MY CAR, ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT ITS BRAKES. I HAD MY VEHICLE REGULARLY SERVICED AS PER THE COMPANIES WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS AND AT ONLY AUTHORIZED SUBARU SERVICE & DEALERSHIP CENTERS. I BROUGHT THE DEFECTIVE BRAKES TO THEIR ATTENTION BUT THEY SAID THAT- 'THAT WAS THE WAY THE FORESTER'S BRAKES WERE AND THAT I HAD TO PUSH THE PEDAL HARD TO THE FLOOR(PUMP THE BRAKES) TO STOP IT QUICKLY ENOUGH.' I WAS GREATLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR RESPONSE TO MY CONCERNS AND AS A PRECAUTION I BEGAN TO KEEP AN EVEN GREATER DISTANCE FROM ALL OF THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME. RECENTLY, I WAS ENTERING A PARKING LOT AT ABOUT 10-15MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE SUDDENLY APPEARED IN FRONT OF ME. I PUSHED THE BRAKES BUT MY VEHICLE JUST WOULD NOT STOP QUICKLY ENOUGH. IF I WOULD LET GO OF THE BRAKE AND THEN PUSH IT AGAIN HARDER AND FASTER TO THE FLOOR( PUMP THE BRAKE) AS THE SERVICE CENTRE HAD PREVIOUSLY ADVISED ME THEN I WOULD HAVE HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. SO I SWAYED MY CARS STEERING WHEEL AND AVOIDED MEETING WITH AN ACCIDENT BUT MY VEHICLE ONLY STOPPED WHEN IT TOUCHED THE RAILING AT ABOUT 5MPH ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT MY FRONT BUMPER NOW HAD A HUGE CRACK IN IT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE WHOSE BRAKES ARE SO BAD THAT IT WILL NOT STOP THE VEHICLE QUICKLY ENOUGH AND NEEDS TO BE PUMPED TO STOP IT SOONER(WHICH MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE IN MANY CIRCUMSTANCES SUCH AS THE ONE ABOVE) , HAS DEFECTIVE BUMPERS AND ALSO HAS A REAR CENTER CHILD SAFETY SEAT SEATBELT WITH A RECALL ON IT .PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE BRAKES AT THE VERY LEAST. *TR
MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED AND THE REAR SEATBELTS WERE REPLACED ON 1/5/2013. HOWEVER, THE NEW SEATBELT LATCHES ARE TOO FLUSH TO THE SEAT AND ARE DIFFICULT TO BUCKLE/UNBUCKLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE NEW MIDDLE SEATBELT LATCH AND STRAP INTERFERS AND BLOCKS BUCKLING THE SIDE SEATBELTS. *TR
PURCHASED CAR NEW 12/2010, DEALER TOLD ME IT USED SYN OIL AND ONLY NEEDED TO BE CHANGED EVERY 7500 MILES. 03/2011 THE CAR HAD 4300 MILES AND WHEN I CHECKED THE OIL IT WAS NOT SHOWING ON THE DIPSTICK. DEALER DID NOT TELL ME THAT THE FORESTERS USE OIL. IT WAS OVER 2 QUARTS LOW. IT HAS BEEN TWO YEARS NOW AND SUBARU HAS STILL DONE NOTHING FOR MY CAR. ALL THEY TOLD ME WAS IT'S IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL AND THEY USE A QT EVERY 1200 MILES. THIS IS CRAZY FOR A NEW CAR. 6 QTS FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND 5 QTS IN BETWEEN. CAN'T DEPEND ON THIS CAR. NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ON LONG TRIPS. ENGINE IS VERY NOISY. SUBARU DECEIVED ME AT TIME OF PURCHASE, I WOULD NEVER BOUGHT A CAR THAT USES OIL LIKE THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND SUDDENLY HEARD A VERY LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND THEN STOPPED. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY DEALERSHIP. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ONE OF THE CONNECTING RODS PUNCTURED THE ENGINE BLOCK WHICH CAUSED ENGINE OIL TO SHOOT THROUGH THE HOLE ONTO THE ENGINE BLOCK, MELTING THE WIRING, AND CAUSING THE SMOKE. *TR
A VEHICLE 2 CARS IN FRONT OF ME DROPPED A LOAD OF FREIGHT ON THE FREEWAY--POSSIBLE ONE LANE OVER. THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES, AND ONE MAY HAVE SWERVED INTO MY LANE. I WAS ABLE TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES AND SLOW TO ABOUT 15-20 MILES PER HOUR BEFORE I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WITHIN 20 SECONDS OF HITTING THAT CAR, FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR. WITHIN 2 MINUTES MY CAR WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND THE PASSENGER CABIN WAS FULLY INVOLVED. THIS WAS AN ALMOST BRAND-NEW CAR WITH NO AFTERMARKET PARTS, AND LITTLE FRONT-END DAMAGE. IT SEEMS SUSPICIOUS THAT SUCH AN ACCIDENT WOULD CAUSE SUCH AN INTENSE AND FAST-SPREADING FIRE. HAD CHILDREN BEEN RESTRAINED IN SAFETY SEATS, I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE HAD TIME TO GET THEM OUT OF THE CAR. *TR
LATCH SYSTEM IN A 2.5X BASE MODEL IS INAPPROPRIATELY PLACED FOR AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT COMMON CAR SEAT BASES. UNABLE TO USE LOWER LATCH ANCHORS WITH A GRACO SNUGRIDE 30 OR 35 BASE. IN ADDITION, THE SUBARU FORESTER DOG GUARD ACCESSORY WHICH INSTALLS BETWEEN THE CARGO AREA AND THE REAR SEAT INAPPROPRIATELY USES BOTH OUTSIDE UPPER LATCH ANCHORS. *JS
I AM BEING TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO LACK OF OIL CHANGES. I CHANGED THE OIL ON 7/6/11 AT 10,639 MILES. THE ENGINE THEN FAILED AT 22241 ON 2/1/12. THE ENGINE HOLDS 5.5 QUARTS OF OIL BUT PER THE MANUFACTURER HAD NONE IN IT AT THE ENGINE FAILURE. HOW DOES A NEW VEHICLE BURN 5.5 QUARTS OF OIL IN 11602 MILES? THERE WAS ALSO NO WARNING LIGHT OF ANY KIND TO TELL ME THAT THE ENGINE OIL WAS LOW. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE OIL LEVEL HAD TO BE LOWER THAN 2 P.S.I FOR THE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND WARN ME AND AT THAT POINT THE ENGINE WOULD ALREADY BE DAMAGED. I GOT NO ADVANCE WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH MY ENGINE OR THE OIL LEVEL. THE ENGINE SIMPLY STOPPED WORKING. I AM BEING TOLD THAT I HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL IN EXCESS OF $9500.00 FOR A NEW ENGINE. HOW CAN A MANUFACTURER HAVE AN ENGINE THAT DOES NOT WARN THE CONSUMER THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM? I AM VERY PUZZLED BY THIS AND THE FACT THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THE WARRANTY WAS VOIDED IS THE SAME DEALERSHIP CHARGING ME EXORBITANT RATES FOR A NEW MOTOR? PLEASE HELP OR GIVE ME A SUGGESTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AT 20 MPH AND THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STOPPED APPROXIMATELY FIVE FEET BEYOND WHERE SHE INTENDED TO STOP. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED. DURING THE SECOND FAILURE, THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN THE ENGINE RPMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,500. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VIN WE HAVE IS INCORRECT. HOWEVER, SHE SUPPLIED THE CORRECT VIN TWICE, BUT IN ONCE CASE, THERE ARE TOO MANY NUMBERS AND THE SECOND CASE, THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH NUMBERS. UPDATED 02/06/12
ON 5/24/11, WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION, MY FORESTER WAS HIT BROADSIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT RAN A RED LIGHT. THE IMPACT OF THE SPEEDING VEHICLE CAUSED THE FORESTER TO SPIN 360 DEGREES AND FLIP-OVER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I WAS LEFT TRAPPED INSIDE THE FORESTER AND WITNESSES POINTED OUT THAT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO RUN AFTER THE FORESTER FLIPPED OVER. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION KILL SWITCH. FURTHERMORE, THERE IS NO INTERIOR RELEASE OF THE REAR HATCH. AS A RESULT I REMAINED TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND CONCERNED ABOUT A GASOLINE LEAK AND POSSIBLE EXPLOSION. I WAS EVENTUALLY REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE BY EMTS AND BROUGHT TO THE HOSPITAL. MY CONCERN IS THAT IF SIMILAR ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN A REMOTE AREA OR IF THE DRIVER WAS MORE SERIOUSLY INJURED, MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE RESULTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN BRAKING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE. ON ONE OCCASION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS AN OCCURRENCE OF ABNORMAL ACCELERATION AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE FOUNDATION OF A BUILDING. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. THE POLICE WERE CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 11,000.
2011 SUBARU FORESTER. CONSUMER STATES FUEL FILLER NECK IS RUSTED AND THERE IS NO FLAPPER ON TOP OF THE NECK *TGW THE CONSUMER RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE FUEL FILLER NECK REPLACED. IT WAS SOON DISCOVERED, THE REPLACEMENT NECK HAD THE SAME DEFECT AS THE OLD ONE. THE CONSUMER REPORTED THE DEFECT TO SUBARU AND THE REPRESENTATIVES INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE DISCLORATION ON THE NECK WAS NOT RUST AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHY IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. SUBARU REFUSED TO OFFER ANY KIND OF FULL EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE THAT WAS THE DESIGN FOR THE 2011 MODELS. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER DRIVING THE CAR ABOUT 472 MILES. CALLED DEALER REPAIR, WHICH INSTATED THAT IT WAS JUST THE GAS CAP LOOSE, WHICH HE HAD US REMOVE AND RETIGHTEN. WE WERE ADVISED TO KEEP DRIVING IT AND THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD EVENTUALLY GO OUT. WE DROVE IT FOR A FEW MORE DAYS AND THEN HAD TWO DIFFERENT LOCAL MECHANICS SHOPS CHECK THE CODE ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. BOTH SAID THAT THE ENGINE WAS MISFIRING, EITHER RANDOM MISFIRE, OR MISFIRE ON CYLINDERS 3 AND 4. WE CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN, WHO SAID THAT THE MECHANICS DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND WERE WRONG, BUT THAT WE SHOULD BRING THE CAR IN NEXT WEEK. WE BROUGHT THE CAR IN ON 8/30/11, WITH ABOUT 872 MILES NOW ON IT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. THE DEALER CHECKED THE CAR AND SAID THE SOME CAM SHAFT ADJUSTERS WERE NOT SET PROPERLY AT THE FACTORY AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ADD A SHIM KIT TO CORRECT THIS! (ON A NEW CAR!) THE NEXT DAY, CAR STILL DIDN'T WORK, THEY HAD TO CALLED SUBARU MANUFACTURER AND TRIED AT LEAST 5 OTHER PROCEDURES AND CAR STILL DOESN'T WORK. THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD AS A NEW CAR. THEY HAVE HAD THE COVER OVER 10 DAYS NOW AND STILL NOT FIXED. WE JUST WANT A NEW CAR, AND GET OUT OF THAT ONE. PLEASE HELP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 SUBARU FORESTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HER AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 400.

If this occurs, the weight on the key ring and certain road conditions could cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position to the accessory position, turning off the engine.
