Timeing chain skipped a tooth destroyig the engine completely. Yes its available for inspection upon request. The problem has been settled in a class action lawsuit but no recall has been issued for ea888 engines between 2008 and 2013
The driver side rear coil spring snapped at 103,000 miles. We just returned from a road trip and are lucky it occurred in the driveway. There was a loud bang when it occurred. The car had to be towed for replacement of both coil springs.
THE VEHICLE STARTED SPUTTERING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY TOLD ME TO PUT GAS TREATMENT IN SEE IF THAT FIXES PROBLEM. IT SEEMED TO HELP A BIT FOR A WEEK BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. THEN ONE MORNING I GOT UP AND TIRED TO START CAR IT HESITATED TO START ALMOST DIED AND STARTED. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING IT TO VOLKSWAGEN AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THANK GOD I WAS JUST DOWN THE ROAD FROM MY HOUSE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS IF IT DIED ON HIGHWAY. ONE OF THE RECALLS ON THIS MODEL IS DESCRIBING WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. BUT WHEN I LOOK IT UP THE SCORE TELLS ME THE RECALLS WERE FIXED. WHICH I KNOW THIS IS NOT TRUE. MY MOTHER TRIED TO GET VOLKSWAGEN TO FIX THE AIRBAG RECALL THEY JUST DISMISSED HER SAYING YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT ONE ON RECALL. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY TO FIX VEHICLE THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND UNACCEPTABLE! NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER.
THE LATCH FROM THE TRUNK STOPPED WORKING AND THE TRUNK DOESN'T CLOSE
THE LIGHTS ON THE CAR START FLASING ,WHEN YOU TURN OF THE CAR , EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD & THE STERRING WHEEL HAVE A NOISE SOUND LIKE THE CLOCK RING HAS SOME DUST IN SIDE. *TR
THE CLOCK SPRING SOUND A LOT, WHEN YOU DO A TURN , AND IT SOUND A LOT , MOVING THE WHEEL, THE BRAKES HAVE A SOUND WHEN YOU ARE GO IN DOWN THE HILL , SEEMS LIKE THE CAR WANT TO STOP ,LIKE SOME BODY IS PUSHING THE BRAKES. *TR
AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING AND THE CAR STAR FLASHING. *TR
F16 FUSE BOX MELTING AND FUSE BURNT BUT NOT TRIPPED IN HOOD. ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS WERE LOST WHILE DRIVING AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AT HIGH SPEEDS ON HIGHWAY. *TR
ENGINE WATER PUMP FAILURE DURING A STOP @ RED LIGHT
TIMING CHAIN FAILURE, BROKEN. STARTED ENGINE ON 3-10-2020, ENGINE SPUTTERED, STALLED. SHOP MECHANIC CALLED 3-12-2020 TO NOTIFY ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN SNAPPED.
TIMING CHAIN FAILED WHICH CAUSED CAR TO DIE AND DAMAGED ENGINE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED. TRAFFIC WAS NOT HEAVY AND VEHICLE WAS ON CITY STREET SO WAS ABLE TO STOP AND PULL OVER.
VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 15V483000 ON 5/2015. HOWEVER, THE REPAIRED/REPLACED PART APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED AGAIN (CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING WHEEL, AIR BAG LIGHT ON, COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER IN STEERING WHEEL). AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AFTER STARTING THE CAR WHILE PARKED ON SIDE OF CITY STREET AND MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AT LOW SPEED.
I OWN A 2011 VW TIGUAN AND IS THE WORST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED. 1. INITIALLY I HAD A BAD TURBO AT 60,000 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOWED AND ENDED UP A BAD TURBO. 2. A BAD OIL LEAK FROM ONE OF THE ENGINE GASKET ONLY HAPPENED WHEN DRIVING 3. A BAD COOLANT LEAK. I WAS DRIVING AND I SAW THE OVERHEATING LIGHT ON I PULLED OVER AND ADDED COOLANT 5 MINUTES LATER WAS EMPTY AGAIN. 4. BAD POWER STEERING PUMP I WAS TURNING AND HEADS SOMETHING MAKING NOISE ON THE STEERING AND HAD TO REPLACE BEFORE SOMETHING MAJOR HAPPENED. AND NEXT I'M GETTING RID OF IT. TO BAD VERY BAD EXPERIENCE OWNING ONE OF THIS. AND I ONLY HAVE 80,000 MILES ON IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V569000(EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LEITH VOLKSWAGEN OF CARY (2300 AUTOPARK BLVD, CARY, NC 27511, (919) 297-1640) FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING FAILED AND TURNED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER THE LIGHTING FAILURE, SEVERAL ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUSE BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS NOT COVERED IN THE INITIAL RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SERVICED PER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000. *LN*JB
THE FUEL INDICATOR (GAUGE) IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DOES NOT TELL HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED BUT AS A "CERTIFIED" VEHICLE. I WOULD EXPECT THIS TO LAST LONGER AS I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE TO GO OUT ON A VEHICLE. IT NEVER TELLS HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE VEHICLE WHETHER IT IS STILL, BEING DRIVEN, HOT, COLD, OR WHATEVER. IT JUST DOESN'T WORK.
IN A SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT. AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD, GAS PEDAL STUCK. PROCEEDED TO JUMP THE CURB, RAN OVER A SIGN, AND THEN INTO A LARGE FLOWER POT. ALL THE WHILE MOTOR RUNNING AT HIGH RPM'S, UNTIL THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS DAMAGED.
HAVE HAD 3 VW WATER PUMP FAILURES WITHIN THE PAST 11 MONTHS. THE ORIGINAL WATER PUMP FAILED IN SEPTEMBER 2018; THE REPLACEMENT FAILED IN JUNE 2019; AND ANOTHER REPLACEMENT FAILED IN AUGUST 2019. ALL INSTALLED AT AAA APPROVED MECHANIC SHOPS. COOLANT WOULD RUN LOW AND WHEN ALERTED TO THIS, IT COULD BE OBSERVED FLOWING ONTO THE GROUND WHILE THE VEHICLE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE CAR IN MOTION.
MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER 69L2 NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 15V483 THE DEALER REFUSE COMPLETE THE RECALL
BELT TENSIONER NOISE /MORNING STARTUP ROUGH IDLE AND MISFIRING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, WHEN APPROXIMATING A GREEN LIGHT, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT MADE A SUDDEN COMPLETE STOP CAUSING THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASH INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS SOUGHT FOR THE CONTACT BUT THE INJURIES SUSTAINED WERE UNKNOWN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE DEALER WAS NOT INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ENGINE SHUT OFF AT A STOPPED POSITION RANDOMLY.
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY PANORAMIC SUN SHADE IS SAGGING COST A LOT OF MONEY TO REPAIR...1500 AND UP ... MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH SOMEHOW IT'S A POOR DESIGN
REAR MAIN OIL SEAL DESIGN IS INSIGNIFICANT. MY BLOWN OUT SEAL LEAKED OIL ONTO HEATED ENGINE COMPONENTS AND CAUSED SMOKE/OIL VAPORS TO BE PULLED INTO CABIN AREA. VEHICLE FIRE COULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND IDLING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT BUT COULD HAVE JUST AS WELL BEEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD.
THERE WAS NO CRASH OR PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE, AIRBAG SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING. FOR ABOUT A WEEK NOW, "ERROR: AIRBAG" MESSAGE IS SHOWN UP ON DASHBOARD AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS TURNED ON. IN ADDITION TO THAT, EVEN I BUCKLED UP, WHEN I MAKE A RIGHT TURN SEAT BELT ALARM IS BEEPING AND SEAT BELT LIGHT HAS TURNED ON WHILE I AM DRIVING. I AM CONCERNING ABOUT THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM DRIVING MY CAR EVERYDAY WITH POTENTIAL THREAT OF ACCIDENT WITHOUT AIRBAGS BEING DEPLOYED.
ENGINE OIL LEAK WAS NOTICED FIRST WHEN PARKED. AFTER FIRST REPAIR (NOVEMBER 01, 2018), IT STARTED TO LEAK AGAIN ONLY AFTER TWO DAYS FROM REPAIR. THEN IT WAS AGAIN REPAIRED, BUT IT STARTED TO LEAK THE SAME DAY AGAIN EVEN A NEW OIL PAN WAS REPLACED. NOW T IS UNDER REPAIRING AGAIN (NOT SURE THE COST AND POSSIBILITY TO FIX YET). THIS REPRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MAY CAUSE A FIRE OR EVENTUALLY ENGINE TO FAIL. MAY PROVIDE REPAIR REPORT FROM DEALER ONCE IT IS FINALIZED. THANK YOU.
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING AND APPROACHING A 4-WAY STOP SIGN AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH ON A SECONDARY ASPHALT PAVEMENT ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AND AN AUDIBLE BEEPING NOISE CAME FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITH NO MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK ACTIVATED CAUSING THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR WHICH IS POSSIBLY A RESULT FROM A MALFUNCTION IN THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM.
WAS DRIVING AIR BAG NEVER CAME OUT THE IMPACT WAS FRONT.
WHEN DOING A FULL TURN MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED CLICKING AND THEN MY AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I ALSO LOST ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS AND HORN. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT IT WAS A CLOCK SPRING. VOLKSWAGEN HAS HAD MANY MODELS AFFECTED BY THIS EVEN MY 2011 YEAR TIGUAN BUT WHEN VOLKWAGEN PULLS UP MY VIN, THEY ARE CLAIMING IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL WHICH IS VERY FRUSTRATIONG.
THE CLOCK SWITCH FAILED TWICE AND VW REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FAULTY PART ALTHOUGH IT SHOWS THE HAD RECALLED 2011 THRU 2014 BUT THEY SAID IT DIDN'T INCLUDE MY VIN.
TENSIONER AND CRANK SHAFT SPROCKET FAILURE. I BELIEVE THERE ARE SOME CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS ON THIS AND AM EXPECTING IT TO GO TO RECALL.
A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON RIGHT AFTER STARTING THE CAR. THE OWNERS MANUAL SHOWED IT AS A "CATALYTIC CONVERTER" WARNING LIGHT AND RECOMMENDED THE CAR BE DRIVEN SLOWLY TO THE NEAREST VW DEALER. BY THE TIME IT ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO RESTART, AND WHEN THEY SCANNED THE CODES, IT SHOWED A PROBLEM WITH CAMSHAFT TIMING. THE DEALER SAYS THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (LAKELAND VOLKSWAGEN, 209 S LAKE PARKER AVE, LAKELAND, FL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE MIL SENSOR INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIVE AND IDLE ROUGHLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MANIFOLD INTAKE, CRANK CASE BREATHING VALVE, IGNITION COIL, AND NOX SENSOR WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
I'M NOT SURE WHY THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED BUT THERE'S PLENTY ON THIS THAT PEOPLE ARE EVEN GOING TO THE TV NEWS STATIONS FOR HELP.THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG ,NO LIGHTS,NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY ENGINE MOTOR STOPS WORKING. I SPOKE WITH THE WARRANTY COMPANY ,THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY AS WELL AS VOLKSWAGEN... NOT ONE OF THEM WILL COVER THE ISSUE NOR HELP WITH THE ISSUE AT ALL. THE CAR WAS IN GREAT SHAPE AND ONLY JUST TURNED A MONTH AGO TO ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES. I CAN'T AFFORD ALMOST 8 THOUSAND FOR NEW ENGINE AS WELL AS LABOR COSTS. THE CAR IS NOT VERY OLD FOR IT NOT TO B RUNNING AND MOTOR COMPLETELY STOP.I HAD TWO PAY THREE DIFFERENT DIAGNOSTIC COSTS AND TWO DIFFERENT TOWS. I NEED HELP,I WOULD ADVISE PEOPLE TO LOOK AT COMPLAINTS FROM 2009-2013 ON THIS VEHICLE WITH MOTOR WITH LOW MILES HAVING THIS ISSUE .IM THINKING OF CONTACTING A LAWYER TO HELP WITH THE ISSUE AS WELL AS THE VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR COSTS.PRIOR TO THIS I OWNED THE DISEL PASSAT AND HAD TO TURN THAT IN WITH VOLKSWAGEN LYING ON EMISSIONS.DO NOT BUY A VOLKSWAGEN ,NOT WORTH IT.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR EVERYTHING WAS FINE GOING GOOD AS SHE WENT TO PUT IN PARK THE CAR JUST STOPPED..THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPPED. IT'S STILL NOT RUNNING ST ALL FOR NO REASON AT ALL.THE MAINTENANCE ON CAR IS UP TO DATE AS WELL AS BRAND NEW TIRES PUT ON.
I HAD DID THIS BACK IN JANUARY AS WELL AS THE CAR ITSELF WAS NOT FEELING RIGHT. ON THE NEWS PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM BETWEEN MILES OF 57 THOUSAND TO OVER 100 THOUSAND COMPLAINED ABOUT ENGINE,MOTOR COMPLETELY STOPPING,COMPLETELY NOT WORKING. MY CAR AS WELL JUST FULLY STOPPED FOR NO REASON.IVE CALLED MY WARRANTY COMPANY AND DUE TO IT BEING JUST 100 THOUSAND MILES AND TWO THOUSAND OVER BUT A YEAR 2019 STILL THEY WILL NOT HELP ME AT ALL.MY CAR IS STUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY WITH ME NOT HAVING A CAR TO DRIVE .I NEED HELP THIS IS NOT NORMAL THAT AN RHINE WITH NO PRIOR SIGNS JUST STOPS .I AM LOOKING FURTHER FOR MY OPTIONS AS I'M GETTING NO HELP THRU ANY VW.
AFTER DRIVING MY 2011 TIGUAN FINE A COUPLE TIMES EARLIER IN THE DAY, I CAME BACK TO MY PARKED CAR, AND TURNED IT ON. WHEN I DID THIS MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITH AN "ERROR: AIRBAG" MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY. AFTER THIS HAPPENED, I NOTICE THE HORN AND OTHER ELECTRICAL FEATURES OF THE WHEEL DIDN'T WORK. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP, AND THEIR SAID THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDS REPLACED. IT WASN'T UNTIL AFTER ALL OF THIS THAT I FOUND OUT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL BEFORE. ALTHOUGH THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDS REPLACED, THE VW SERVICE CENTER SAID THEY CANNOT GET THE CLOCK SPRING PART TO REPLACE IT. THEY COULDN'T TELL ME A TIME THAT THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE.
AS I WAS TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH THE VEHICLE IN MOTION, I HEARD A CLICKING SOUND AND THEN A SNAP. THE AIRBAG LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON AND ALL ELECTRONIC CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE HORN CEASED TO WORK. I HAD THE COVER PUT ON BASED ON THE PREVIOUS RECALL, WHICH OBVIOUSLY FAILED. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER A HARD FIGHT, HAD THEM REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING. THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE ISSUE WITH THE HORN WAS RELATED TO THIS; HOWEVER, I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS INDICATING THE SAME ISSUE. CURRENTLY, THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR MY HORN.
BRIGHT RED "OIL CAN" STARTS FLASHING ON SCREEN WHILE ON MAJOR HIGHWAY. MADE I HOME. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR KEPT STALING BEFORE I EVEN LEFT FOR WORK. FOUND OUT NO OIL WAS BEING DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE MOTOR CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. LOUD NOISE COULD ALSO BE THE TIMING BELT, WHICH IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT IS NOT PAID OFF, AND I CAN'T DRIVE. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE.
CLOCK SPRING FAILED TWICE CAUSING PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT TO FAIL AND HORN DOES NOT WORK. FIRST REPAIR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND 2ND REPAIR WAS UNDER THE RECALL. DEALER SAID I HAVE TO CALL VW TOO COVER IT AND VW CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNTIL A 2ND RECALL IS ORDERED. SO FAR VW HAS NO PLANS TO RECALL IT AGAIN ON THEIR OWN.
CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, NO DASH LIGHTS, ODD SOUNDS OR ANYTHING TO INDICATE ISSUE. LAST OIL CHANGE WAS NORMAL AND ALMOST DUE FOR NEW OIL CHANGE. AT 109K MILES, WENT TO START THE CAR AND TURNED OVER BUT IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. THOUGHT MAYBE KEY FOB OR FUEL PUMP BUT HAD TO HAVE TOWED TO VW DEALER. UPON REVIEWING, DEALER EXPLAINED THAT CAR SUDDENLY JUMPED THE TIMING CHAIN AND RUINED THE ENGINE, REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF NEW ONE COSTING $8000+. SINCE OUT OF WARRANTY, VW WILL NOT ASSIST IN ANY WAY EVEN THOUGH APPEARS TO BE COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY RISK IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE CAR IS MOVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND AN AIR BAG WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRANDON VOLKSWAGEN (9816 E ADAMO DR, TAMPA, FL 33619, (844) 378-9574) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
MY AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON IN THE CAR IT IS MY DASHBOARD I HAVE HAD IT RESET AND IT STILL KEEPS COMING ON AND IT SAYS AIRBAG ERROR WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START MY CAR, IT WOULD NOT 'CATCH' AND START RUNNING. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED. THE RESULT WAS A SLIPPED TIMING CHAIN THAT RENDERED THE ENGINE USELESS. I WILL NEED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. I UNDERSTAND NOW THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF ENGINE FROM VOLKSWAGEN. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 82,000+ MILES AND IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, IS TOO EARLY FOR THIS TYPE OF FAILURE.
MY CAR WOULD JUST B DEAD.COULDNT START IT WITH A JUMP.NEDED IT TOWED.FOUND OUT IT WAS A TIMING CHANGE AND NEEDED TO B DONE ASAP OTHERWISE ENGINE COULD STOP WORKING.OF COURSE NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP COSTS WERE OUTRAGEOUS SO DECIDED TO GO ANOTHER PLACE WHICH CHARGED ME HALF THE MONIES TO GET IT DONE.TIL THIS DAY THE CAR NEVER RUNS RIGHT.
THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING IN COLD WEATHER. -10 F DEGREES OR COLDER
WE WERE DRIVING THE CAR AND THE ENGINE SEIZED AND SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AS WE WERE IN MOTION. UNABLE TO START ENGINE AGAIN. AT 52,000 MILES, THE VW MOHEGAN LAKE MOTORS TOLD US THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $8K. RESEARCH INDICATES IT HAD BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH VW ISSUING TECHNICAL SHEETS ABOUT THE ENGINE IN THESE MODELS AND HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THEY REFUSED TO PAY BECAUSE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY WHICH HAD ENDED A MONTH BEFOREHAND.
CAR WAS DRIVEN HOME WITH NO ENGINE NOISE OR SMOKING AND PARKED BY THE STORM DRAINAGE. NO SIGNS OR ANYTHING PRIOR THAT THE CAR NEEDED SERVICING. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER WENT OUTSIDE TO MOVE THE CAR UP FROM THE DRAINAGE ABOUT 5 FEET TO IN FRONT OF THE CENTER OF THE HOUSE IN FRONT OF THE DOOR. OPENED CAR DOOR AND PLACED KEY IN TO TURN THE ENGINE ON. ENGINE JUST TURNED BUT WOULD NOT IGNITE OR COME ON. ON 12/26/17 CONTACTED THE DEALER AND STATED THE ISSUE. QUICK THOUGHT WAS THE FUEL PUMP OR MODULE WENT OUT. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSIS AND RESEARCH. FOUND OUT THE ENGINE HAD "JUMPED TIMING" OR TENSIONER HAD CRASHED THE ENGINE. CAR HAS 63K MILES AND NOW TO FIX IT WILL COST 7000.00. DEALER STATED WITH A 10% DISCOUNT THE COST WILL BE LOWERED 6,1000.00 PLUS TAXES. TOTAL RIP OFF THE CAR HAS A WARRANTY OF 36K WHEN PURCHASED BUT NOW HAS PAST THE MILEAGE TIMEFRAME BUT THE (TENSIONER) IS NOT TO GO OUT OR HAVE PROBLEMS UNTIL THE VEHICLE REACHES AROUND 120K .
TAKATA RECALL, I CALLED THE VW DEALER AT GREENWOOD, IN DREYER&REINBOLD, 317-527-4845,,,AND I WAS TOLD 3 TIMES THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, YET THE AIRBAGRECALL WEB SITE CONFIRMS THAT IT IS ON RECALL AND TO CONTACT THE DEALER, HOW DO I SAFELY RESOLVE THIS ???
THE GEARBOX FUSED TO THE TRANSMISSION AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED.
ON AUGUST 15, 2017 I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE AFTER SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR 24 HRS. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED CATASTROPHIC INTERNAL TOP-END DAMAGE DUE TO A FAILED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. QUOTED $6,600.00 TO REPAIR. VOLKSWAGEN HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. VEHICLE HAS 64,000 MILES AND ALL FACTORY RECOMMENDED SERVICES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AT THE DEALERSHIP(S). VW DOES NOT RECOMMEND ANY SERVICE OR INSPECTION BE DONE TO THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER OR AFFILIATED COMPONENTS AT OR EVEN NEAR THE MILEAGE THAT MY VEHICLE HAS RECORDED. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGISTERED, LAWSUITS FILED AND VW,S ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THIS PROBLEM I BELIEVE THIS NOT TO BE AN ISOLATED EVENT. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THE TENSIONER THAT VW IS AWARE OF YET REFUSES TO PROPERLY ADDRESS OR PROVIDE REMEDY.
FAULTY PCV LED TO BLOWN REAR MAIN SEAL, TIMING CHAIN COVER, AND OIL SEPARATOR. CO SAID 2011 TIGUANS ARE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT CLAIMED MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED DESPITE BEING A 2011 TIGUAN.
TAKATA RECALL: ON AUGUST 7, 2017, MY CAR WAS ON STATIONARY MODE AND WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT ON BUT FAILED TO DO SO, I THOUGHT THEN THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE WITH THE STARTER. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 2017 FOR DIAGNOSTICS. ON MONDAY, AUGUST 21ST, I GET A CALL BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONING SYSTEM. THE CHAIN TENSIONING SYSTEM HAS A MAJOR DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE THE CHAIN TO LOSE TENSION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF, WHICH CAN ALLOW THE CHAIN TO 'JUMP A TOOTH' IN THE CAR'S CAMSHAFT AND CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE. THIS IS VERY UPSETTING AND CATASTROPHIC FOR ME SINCE I HAVE NO FAULT WITH THIS $7000 TO $10,000 DEFECT. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT VOLKSWAGEN VIOLATED CONSUMER PROTECTION, FEDERAL WARRANTY, AND ANTI-FRAUD LAWS. IF I NEW THAT THE TIGUAN HAD SUCH A DEFECT, I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!
CAR STARTED LOSING POWER IN FAST LANE I35 75MPH. WE WAITED FOR A CLEARING AND JERKED CAR HARD RIGHT TO GET TO SHOULDER/GRASS. ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON SHOULDER. TOWED TO REPAIR. SAID CAMSHAFT BRIDGE FILTER IS FAULTY AND MALFUNCTION HAS DESTROYED WHOLE ENGINE. LUIKART'S WACO SAID HAS SEEN NUMEROUS EXACT PROBLEMS W THIS ENGINE TYPE WITH SAME PROBLEM. HE EXPECTS A CLASS ACTION TO EMERGE IN THE FUTURE. VW DENIED ANY PROBLEM WITH THIS ISSUE. MECHANIC SAYS VW IS TRACKING ALL VINS WHEN NEW CAMSHAFT IS ORDERED.
VW HAS RECOGNIZED A DEFECTED PART IN THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING. WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO HAVE THE REPAIR, DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND A DUST COVER WAS PUT ON 7/20/16. WELL THE DUST COVER HAS BROKE AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND HORN IS NOT WORKING. SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID IT WASN'T COVERED BECAUSE OF PREVIOUS FIX, MIND YOU THEY SAID DUST COVER AND NOT A NEW PART. WE CALLED VW AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE REPAIR FOR THE DEFECTED PART. THE PART WAS NEVER REPLACED, JUST A BAND AID PUT ON THE PROBLEM. VW SAID THEY ONLY HAD TO HONOR THEIR REPAIR FOR 1 YEAR. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE WHEN THEY NEVER REALLY REPLACED THE PART????? THE DUST COVER THEY PREVIOUSLY PUT ON SNAPPED WHEN I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT, AIRBAG LIGHT IMMEDIATELY CAME ON. THE PART COST $348.08 AND $170.00 IN LABOR.
TIMING CHAIN - DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE MADE A CLICKING WINING NOISE AND CAME TO A STOP. IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN. THE OIL BREATHER/REAR MAIN SEAL IS ALSO LEAKING.
FAULTY CLOCK SPRING - CLICKING NOISE CAME FROM STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNED THEN NONE OF THE BUTTONS WOULD WORK AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. CAME TO FIND OUT IT WAS A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING AND THE AIRBAG WOULDN'T DEPLOY IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT.
TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED CAUSING COMPLETE ENGINE DESTRUCTION. 67,000 MILES. VW NORTH AMERICA SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THE COMPLAINTS AND LAWSUITS ABOUT THE TENSIONER BUT SINCE THE WARRANTY IS ONLY FOR 60,000 MILES THEY WERE NOT GOING TO COVER IT. $8,000 REPAIR BILL FROM THE DEALER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A MALFUNCTIONING FUEL PUMP MODULE, THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER OR LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,200.
DEFECTIVE FUSE LINK IN WIRING HARNESS MELTED TOGETHER RATHER THAN SEPARATING CAUSING VERY HIGH VOLTAGE DAMAGING THE CPU AND IGNITION COILS CAUSING PISTON MISFIRING AND POSSIBILITY OF ENGINE FIRE. I HAVE RETAINED THE DEFECTIVE PART. MECHANIC REPORTS BOTH FUSE LINKS CONNECTING TO TWO COILS ARE MELTED AND 30,000 VOLT POWER BRIDGED THESE LINKS TO DAMAGE THE OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. REPAIR WAS OVER $2700. FIRE WAS AVOIDED BY TAKING VEHICLE OUT OF SERVICE BUT SEVERELY MELTED LINKS AND HIGH VOLTAGE FEEDING BACK INTO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAUSED VERY HIGH POTENTIAL OF ELECTRICAL FIRE IN VICINITY OF FUEL SOURCES. VW NOTICE TO MECHANICS ABOUT PROBLEM HAS BEEN ISSUED BUT NO RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. ALSO, THE HORN, CRUISE CONTROL, AND HANDS FREE PHONE SERVICE FAILED, AND THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DARCARS VOLKSWAGEN SILVER SPRING (12511 PROSPERITY DR, SILVER SPRING, MD 20904, (301) 622-7000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS) AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY HAD A COVER ASSEMBLY PLACED OVER THE CLOCK SPRING, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
TURBO FAILURE, WATER PUMP FAILURE, AND REAR MAIN SEAL FAILURE. ALL RIGHT AFTER HITTING 100K MILES. NEARLY 5K IN TOTAL REPAIR COSTS. I'VE EXPERIENCED REDUCED PERFORMANCE BECAUSE OF THE TRURBO ISSUES. ISSUES PULLING OUT ON TO STREETS, OR ON RAMPS. I OPTED OUT OF THE REPAIR AT THE TIME DUE TO VW WANTING 2.2K TO REPLACE THE TURBO, WHICH SHOULD BE ALMOST A LIFETIME PART. I THEN TOOK IT BACK 2 WEEKS LATER FOR THE WATER PUMP WHICH WAS LEAKING FLUID EVERYWHERE, THEY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP BUT FAILED TO MENTION THAT THE REAR MAIN SEAL WILL NEED REPLACED AS WELL. REAR MAIN SEAL IS COMMON, AND COULD RESULT IN A FIRE IF ENOUGH OIL LEAKS ON TO THE EXHAUST.
I PURCHASED MY TIGUAN THREE YEARS AGO AS A CERTIFIED PREOWNED CAR. IT WAS WORKING GREAT UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO I WENT TO GO START IT WHILE IT WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IT WOULDN'T START. I HAD IT TOWED TO FIRST A MECHANIC WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE VALVES WERE BENT AND NO COMPRESSION WAS IN ANY OF MY CYLINDERS. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT MY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER HAD FAILED CAUSING MASSIVE ENGINE DAMAGE. NO WARNINGS. NO INDICATORS. BUT A BILL FOR OVER $6,000 WHICH VOLKSWAGEN HAS ONLY TOLD ME TO "KEEP RECEIPTS AND PROOF SHOULD THEY ISSUE A RECALL IN THE FUTURE." VW IS IGNORING A MASSIVE FAULT IN THEIR ENGINES THAT MAKES THEIR TENSIONERS FAIL UNEXPECTEDLY AND PREMATURELY AND RUIN ENGINES WITHOUT THE DRIVER NEEDING TO HAVE MOVE THE VEHICLE AND THEY'RE DOING NOTHING TO WARN CONSUMERS OF THIS ISSUE.
CARBON BUILDUP IN ENGINE AT 65K MILES, VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED AS RECOMMENDED BY VW. PCV VALVE COMPLETE FAILURE AT 88K MILES WHICH RESULTED IN FAILURE OF THE REAR MAIN SEAL WHICH REQUIRES REMOVAL OF TRANSMISSION (ROUGHLY $2,000 OF REPAIRS). THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY DEALERS AND SERVICE CENTERS DUE TO INSUFFICIENT OR IMPROPER APPLICATION OF SEALANT.
TURBOCHARGER LEAKS OIL
THE TIMING CHAIN FAILED CAUSING MASSIVE ENGINE DAMAGE, DESPITE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE FAILURE HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSED MASSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
ENGINE SHUDDERS AS IF IT WILL STALL BUT DOES NOT. HAPPENS AFTER COLD START, GOES AWAY WITH SLOWLY REVVING ENGINE IN PARK. TRIGGERS ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. OIL BEING PUSHED OUT OF CYLINDERS AND LEAKING UNDER ENGINE. ALSO HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP.
THE CAR HAD AN EXTREME MISFIRE AT IDLE AND VERY ROUGH RUNNING. I TOOK THE CAR FOR AN INSPECTION AT THE VW DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE CHAIN HAD STRETCH BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE GET AN STABLE TIMING. AFTER DISSEMBLING THE OPENING UP THE HOUSE COVERING THE TIMING CHAIN THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE CAM SCREEN HAD COME LOOSE AND LIKING CAUSED THE CHAIN TO STRETCH. VW TOLD ME IT WOULD BE WISE TO HAVE THE CAM REPLACED IN CASE THE SCREEN CAUSED ANY DAMAGE IT TO IT AS WELL. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED I ASKED THEM DIRECTLY IF THE TENSIONER HAD FAILED AND THEY THEN ADMITTED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF BAD TENSIONER NOT A STRETCHED CHAIN. THE VW MANAGER TOLD ME HE WAS AWARE OF THE TBS ON THE TENSIONER FAILURES. THE MANAGER CHOOSE TO MAKE UP AN UNBELIEVABLE STORY TO COVER THE TRUE PROBLEM. THE CHAIN WAS NOT STRETCHED AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE CAM SHAFT. I DIRECTLY COMPLAIN TO VW AND THEY TOLD ME IN A LETTER THE "TSBS DON'T INDICATE TRENDS AMONG OUR VEHICLES, AS THEY ARE ISSUED TO OUT DEALERSHIPS FOR INSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSES ONLY." THIS IS A CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED STATEMENT TO OBFUSCATE THE TRUTH. INITIAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. THE MILEAGE WAS 77300. THE FAILURE ON THIS ENGINE APPEARS TO HAVE SPARED DAMAGE TO THE VALVE BUT A MORE SERIOUS FAILURE COULD HAVE SHUT DOWN THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY.

THE FAILURE ON THIS ENGINE APPEARS TO HAVE SPARED DAMAGE TO THE VALVE BUT A MORE SERIOUS FAILURE COULD HAVE SHUT DOWN THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS). SHORTLY AFTER THE DEALER'S REPAIR, THE RIBBON CABLE SNAPPED INTERNALLY AND CAUSED A FAILURE. THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIBBON CABLE AFFECTED THE FUNCTION OF THE HORN, STEERING, CRUISE CONTROL AND OTHER COMPONENTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY FAILED TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS ALSO STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL, MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH, AND CRUISE CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,300.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN FAILED TO SOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SCREW, CONTROL UNIT, AND CUP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED 09/11/16. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME THE LIGHT ENGAGED. DROPPED OFF AT DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE TENSIONER HAD FAILED AND THE FOLLOWING HAD TO BE REPLACED: TENSIONER, TIMING CASE, SEALENT, GASKET, BRACKET, VALVE, AND RAIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUGHT EARLY ENOUGH THAT UPON INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE THEY FOUND NO DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE IN THE MANUAL FOR THE TENSIONER. HE ALSO STATED THAT DUE TO THE TENSIONER FAILING, THE TIMING CHAIN WAS SKIPPING LINKS WHICH WOULD HAVE LEAD TO ENGINE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO DASH BOARD MESSAGES INDICATING WHY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS TRIGGERED. PLEASE SEE ENCLOSED INVOICE AS ATTACHED.
ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE CAR HAS LOST POWER WHILE IN DRIVE ON CITY STREETS. FIRST OCCASION APRIL 23 2014 THE COOLANT/WATER PUMP FAILED AS DID FUSE. MAY 23 FUEL PUMP FAILED AND FUEL PUMP PANEL. JULY 28 CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING DUE TO FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR. YESTERDAY AUG 15 2016 CAR AGAIN LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND HAD TO BE TOWED (FOURTH TIME WITH LESS THAN 50K MILES) TO DEALER. I AM AWAITING DIAGNOSIS BUT NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THE VEHICLE. TWICE I WAS FORTUNATE THAT POLICE OFFICERS SHOWED UP AND WERE ABLE TO PUSH MY CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC AND TO SAFETY BUT AT THIS POINT I BELIEVE VW SHOULD TAKE ACTION TO REPLACE THE CAR AS IT HAS CLEARLY PROVEN A SAFETY HAZARD FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. REFERENCE TSB 15-12-01 (NHTSA 10045560) AND TSB 15-11-04 (NHTSA 10043276) WHERE THE TIMING CHAIN SENSOR FAILS PREMATURELY RESULTING IN TIMING CHAIN SLIPPAGE AND CATOSTROPHIC ENGINE DAMAGE. SEE VW COMPLAINT CASE # 160737061 WHEREBY VW DENIES FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY DUE TO VEHICLE MILEAGE. THIS IS A KNOWN AND RECURRING ISSUE TO A VEHICLE COMPONENT THAT IS DESIGNED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE BY THE OEM'S ADMISSION. VW NEEDS TO EXTEND WARRANTY COVERSAGE FOR DAMAGES RELATED TO TIMING CHAIN SLIPPAGE TO A REASONABLE VEHICLE LIFE EXPECTANCY AND NOT A CONVENIENT LIFE EXPECTANCY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED DUE TO THE TIMING CHANGE TENSIONER AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
WE HAVE A 2011 TIGUAN AND THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING HAS FAILED (PER THE VW DEALER), INITIATING THE AIRBAG MONITORING INDICATOR LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. ALSO, DUE TO THE CLOCK SPRING FAILURE, THE HORN, THE AIRBAG, AND ALL ELECTRONIC CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK. THIS IS THE SAME REASON AS FOR AN ACTIVE RECALL INVOLVING 420,000 VOLKSWAGENS, BUT THIS VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS WITH THE VEHICLE, AND NOTHING DONE TO HAVE CAUSED THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON.
MY TIGUAN ONLY RUNNING 50K MILES BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. WHEN I TOWED IT TO THE MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WERE BAD. THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER DEFECT CAUSED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. I NOW DO NOT HAVE AN ENGINE. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE AND TALKING TO SOME LAWYERS ALL OVER THE US, IT SEEMS LIKE MANY PEOPLE WITH VW TIGUANS (2.0L ENGINES) HAVE THIS ISSUE AND THERE ARE A FEW CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS IN THE US REGARDING THIS MATTER. I SPOKE TO VW OF AMERICA AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ISSUED, ALTHOUGH THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS DEFECT. VW DEALERSHIP NOW TELLS ME THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR THE ENGINE AND TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IS AROUND $10,000. IF THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER WAS NOT DEFECTIVE, MY ENGINE WOULD HAVE NEVER FAILED. I SHOWED THEM PROOF OF OIL CHANGES OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS IN WHICH WERE ALL DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. I AM NOW FIGHTING WITH VW OF AMERICA ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES. MY CAR IMMEDIATELY BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE CRASHED INTO ME. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SHORTLY AFTER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE ANY FURTHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN HAD THE VEHICLE RUNNING WITH THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE, WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE ENGINE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. ..UPDATED 10/26/16 *BF THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. *JS
AFTER AN OIL CHECK AND REPLACEMENT, WITHIN 4 WEEKS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR HAS EXAGGERATED SOUNDS AFTER SHUT DOWN (TOLD THIS IS THE FAN COOLING DOWN CAR) . THE SYMBOL APPEARING ON THE DASH AS INDICATED IN THE MANUAL, STATES THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, BUT WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TURBO BYPASS VALVE $359.11 + TAX AND COOLING FANS $949.00+TAX , PLUS THE NEED FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE $129.50 +TAX AND MAY BE THE TURBO HAS TO BE REPLACED $2233.16 + TAX, AFTER THEY DO THE INITIAL REPAIRS. NOW THE CAR IS OVER HEATING WHEN IN TRAFFIC AND ON HOT DAYS. PLEASE NOTE WE WERE TOLD THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS PUT IN THE CAR IN 2014, BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AFTER IT STALLED AND WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. SINCE THE REPAIRS ARE SO EXPENSIVE FOR THESE LATEST ISSUES WE HAVE NOT DONE THE REPAIRS. WRESTLING WITH KEEPING THE CAR, SINCE IT HAS HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES. JUST BEFORE IT STALLED PREVIOUSLY THERE WAS A EPC LIGHT AND A CATALYTIC CONVERTER LIGHT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND IT REMAINED THERE FOR A FEW DAYS AND WAS TOLD PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE EPC LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THIS TIME THE CAR STAYED WITH THE DEALER FOR OVER A MONTH AND EVENTUALLY WE WERE TOLD A 2014 ENGINE WOULD BE PLACED IN THE CAR. THEY COULD NOT FIND OUT WHAT THE EXACT PROBLEM WAS. WE WERE TOLD IT MAY BE DUE TO SLUG IN THE ENGINE. DESPITE THIS THE COST FOR THE ENGINE WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. LATER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS CHANGED AND FOR A WHILE NO PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. NOW WE HAVE A VERY EXPENSIVE FAN AND TURBO PROBLEM WITH NO WARRANTY TO COVER THE COST. THIS CAR HAS HAD TOO MANY ISSUES, MOST OCCURRING WITHIN JUST 5 YEARS OF THE PURCHASE. WE USUALLY JUST LEAVE IT AT HOME AND USE OUR SON'S CAR FOR LONG DISTANCES.
MY VW 2011 TIGUAN'S TIMING BELT SKIPPED AND END UP DAMAGING THE ENGINE. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY, MY WIFE, A COUPLE OF HOURS BEFORE CAME BACK FROM A MEETING IN THE CAR AND PARKED IT. THEN WHEN SHE WENT BACK TO THE CAR IT CRANKED BUT DIDN'T TURN ON. IT ONLY HAS 58K MILES BUT VW IS NOT RESPONDING BECAUSE IT WAS 5 MONTH PAST THE WARRANTY END DATE. THIS HAPPENED IN 5/2016... MOST OF THE RECOMMENDED SCHEDULED MAINTAINANCE WERE PERFORMED AND MOST HAVE BEEN PERFORMED IN THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE LAST ONE THAT WAS PERFORMED IN FIRESTONE. STILL NO RESOLUTION FROM VW OTHER THAN TELLING US THAT WE ARE OUT OF LUCK AND THAT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, ABOUT $12K.
THE SUNROOF OF MY 2011 VW TIGUAN EXPLODED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT WAS A HOT HOUSTON AFTERNOON. I WAS ON A HOUSTON FREEWAY AT ABOUT 60MPH , AND HEARD A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION FOLLOWED BY WIND SOUND AND SOUND OF GLASS PIECES FLYING ON THE TOP OF THE CAR. LUCKILY THE FABRIC SHADE WAS CLOSED WHICH KEPT SOME GLASS PIECES FROM FALLING IN THE CAR. I WAS CERTAIN THAT NOTHING HAD HIT THE CAR.
COMMON FAILED TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER ON MANY VW'S TSI ENGINES , CAUSED COMPLETE ENGINE DAMAGE AND COSTLY REPAIR, LUCKLY NO INJURIES HAPPENED VW REFUSED TO REPAIR EVEN THOUGH CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WHEN DAMAGE OCCURRED .
CAR STALLED DRIVING ON HIGHWAY SPEED, LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED IT'S VERY COMMON FAILURE OF IGNITION COIL ON ALMOST ALL VW MODELS , FAILURE WILL CAUSE YOUR CAR TO BE INOPERABLE . VW DIDN'T ISSUE A RECALL OR AT LEAST NOTIFY OWNERS OF VW CARS TO CHANGE THEIR DEFECTIVE IGNITION COILS. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAD THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP IN FEB 2016 UNDER THE RECALL. MAY 14 2016 I WAS TURNING LEFT AT A STOPLIGHT WHEN THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE AND MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND MY STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS AND HORN STOPPED WORKING. I BELIEVE THE CLOCK SPRING HAS GONE BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. MILEAGE: 87,000

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MANIFOLD WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CRANK CASE BREATHER VALVES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL, WHICH WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TURBO CHARGER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN I AM AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, MY TRANSMISSION TENDS TO BUMP LIKE IT IS GOING INTO ANOTHER GEAR. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MY VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE.
THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE FREEWAY DOING 70MPH AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY BEGAN KNOCKING AND COULD NOT SUSTAIN HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HAD TO STOP BY THE SIDE AND THEN SLOWLY TAKE THE NEXT EXIT. ON TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, THE MENTIONED THE IGN COILS & SPARK PLUGS WERE FAULTY AND I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THEM REPLACED WITH NEW PART NUMBER. VEHICLE HAD ONLY 55K MILES ON IT AND HAD ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT TWO OF THE IGNITION COILS WERE NOT FIRING WELL. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE COILS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,407.
AT 67K MILES, OUR 2011 VW TIGUAN SUDDENLY WOULDN'T START. WE'D HAD HAD NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG, AND OUR CAR HAD BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. A VW MECHANIC SAID THAT THE ENGINE WAS PROBABLY SHOT. HE TOLD US IT WAS A TIMING SEQUENCING PROBLEM. WITH NEARLY $7,000 YET TO PAY OFF THE CAR, WE WERE NOT ABOUT TO SPEND $8,500 ON A REBUILT ENGINE AND SERVICE. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TIMING CHAIN, PLUS DOCUMENTATION THAT THERE IS A DEFECTIVE SPROCKET THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY HARDENED OR HEAT TREATED, CAUSING IT TO WEAR DOWN & CAUSE THE TIMING CHAIN TO SLIP. I CALLED VWGROUP OF AMERICA AND SOMEONE SAID HE'D CONTACT THE REPAIR CARE MGT TEAM, THAT THEY'D CALL THE DEALER, AND THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME BACK. AFTER SOMEONE FROM VW SPOKE TO THE DEALER, THE MECHANIC SUDDENLY KNEW THAT IT WAS THE SPROCKET AND TIMING CHAIN, AND THAT ONLY THOSE & THE CYLINDER HEAD NEED TO BE REPLACED. INSTEAD OF $8,500, THE REPAIR WOULD BE ABOUT $4,000, AND THAT VW HAD AGREED TO COVER 65%. I RETURNED A CALL FROM KEN SWANTEK AND TOLD HIM THAT I KNEW THAT VW'D HAD MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HIS SAID: 1) YOU CANT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON THE INTERNET. 2) IF VW HAD SUCH COMPLAINTS IT DIDN'TT MEET THE STANDARD FOR A RECALL. 3) I SHOULD HAVE BEEN READING VWS TECHNICAL BULLETINS. 4) IF VW RECEIVES ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO MEET THE STANDARD FOR A RECALL, ONLY THEN WOULD WE BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REMAINING EXPENDITURE. I KNOW VW HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND THAT VW CONSUMERS HAVE RECEIVED FROM 0%-100% REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN I REALIZED BOTH OF MY HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT. IT WAS LIGHT WHEN I LEFT MY HOUSE SO I DIDN'T NOTICE, I HAD TO DRIVE WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS. JUST A LITTLE STRANGE THAT ALL OF A SUDDEN BOTH HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AT THE EXACT SAME TIME. SO I CALLED TO ASK TO BRING MY CAR IN AND THE GIRL TOLD ME THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS. I SEE RECALL 97Z9 FOR EXTERIOR LIGHTING. SHE TELLS ME I'LL HAVE TO PAY TO FIX IT AND IF THERE IS A RECALL IN THE FUTURE I CAN GET A REFUND. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
VEHICLE JUST OVER 45K AND WAS TOLD THE CLOCK SPRING SHORTED WITH NO REAL REASON AS TO WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN SO EARLY IN THE VEHICLE LIFE. THE IMPACT OF THE FAILURE FROM WHAT I CAN VISUALLY TELL IS THAT I HAVE NO HORN, THE ELECTRONIC CONSOLE DOES NOT FUNCTION AND ALL BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK. THE CONSOLE ALSO DISPLAYS AN AIRBAG ERROR, WHICH THE DEALER CANNOT CONFIRM IF THIS IMPACTS MY ACTUAL AIRBAG SYSTEM. I'M TOLD THE OVER $750+ TO SERVICE. GIVEN THE POTENTIAL SAFETY IMPACT OF THIS DEVICE, I FIND IT RIDICULOUS THAT ONE, IT SHORTED, AND TWO, THE COST AND THE DEALERSHIP / VW CORPORATE UNWILLING TO ADDRESS THE CONCERN, OTHER THAN TO SAY I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. ITS VERY DANGEROUS NOT KNOWING IF THE CLOCK SPRING IMPACTS THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IN MY VEHICLE, LET ALONE NOT HAVING A FUNCTIONING HORN.
I WAS TURNING LEFT OFF OF A HWY. I ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE TO 40 MILES AND THE CAR HESITATED LIKE IT WAS SWITCHING GEARS, DECREASED IN SPEED AND STARTED SHAKING. I PULLED OVER, CHECKED THE GAS CAP, - IT WAS CLOSED. TURN CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED, CAR STILL SHAKING. I DROVE THE CAR TO SAFE PLACE OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 20 MILES HOURS. I PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON, BUT THEY KEPT GOING OFF. THEN I CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. THE CAR HAD RECEIVED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE INCLUDING SPARK PLUG CHANGES TWO DAYS AGO, BUT THEN THIS HAPPENED. VOLKSWAGON DEALER SERVICE FOLKS SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THE IGNITION COIL MISFIRED. ORIGINALLY CHARGED 300 TO HAVE IT FIX, THEN DISCOUNTED AND PAID 200. I SEE THERE ARE NUMEROUS RECENT COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE IGNITION COILS IN THE YEARS AROUND MY MODEL YEAR, AND VOLKSWAGON RECALLED THE IGNITION COIL A FEW YEARS AGO FOR OLDER MODELS. I THINK THEY NEED TO EXTEND THE RECALL TO COVER THE 2011 YEAR. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I REPORTED IT TO VOLKSWAGON. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME IN THE BACK. A BLOCK FURTHER I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A HIGHWAY DRIVING 70 MILES PER HOUR. I LOVE MY VOLKSWAGON, BUT THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
PROBLEMS STARTED AT 15,822 MILES. PARKING BRAKE SWITCH JAMMING. AT 44,690 MILES ENGINE AND EPC. LIGHTS COMES ON, ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING. FOUND 2 FAULTS SET INECM FOR RANDOM CYLINDER MISS FIRES (P0300) AND MISS FIRES ON CYL 2 (P0302). CHECKED FREEZE FROM DATA AND FOUND FAULT WERE SET AT ENGINE START UP. PERFORMED DE-CARBAN SERVICE, AT 45,400 OIL LEAK FROM DRAIN PLUG WASHER. LONG-LIFE WASHER ON DRAIN PLUG LEAKING. BLUETOOTH MALFUNCTIONING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 49,084. ALSO PROBLEM AND FOUND INTERNAL MALFUNCTION IN NEW MODEL. AT 50,011 MILES, FOUND FAULTS FOR INTAKE MANIFOLD RUNNER POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH CIRCUIT RANGE PERFORMANCE. REPLACED INTAKE MANIFOLD AND RESEAL FUEL INJECTORS. AT 54,618 MILES, DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACED. FOUND VALVE COVER GASKET LEAKING. AT 54,902 MILES FOUND VALVE COVER AND UPPER CHAIN COVER GASKET LEAKING. REPLACED VALVE COVER SEALANT, UPPER TIMING CHAIN COVER AND VACUUM PUMP GASKET. AT 63,186 MILES. FUEL RAIL PRESSURE TOO LOW, DETERMINED HIGH PRESSURE PUMP INTERNALLY FAULTY. AT 68.222 MILES DRIVER DOOR HINGES LOOSE. AT 68,222 MILES FUSE PROBLEMS. F16 BURNED AS WELL AS PANEL. HAD ALSO REPLACED FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR FUSE. PROBLEMS ARE ON GOING. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT STILL LOOSES POWER AND STALLS WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE AND EPC LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. VW USA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DECLARE THE CAR UNSAFE. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH FATALITIES OCCUR.

THE CONSOLE ALSO DISPLAYS AN AIRBAG ERROR, WHICH THE DEALER CANNOT CONFIRM IF THIS IMPACTS MY ACTUAL AIRBAG SYSTEM. I'M TOLD THE PART COSTS $290 PLUS $400 IN LABOR COSTS. GIVEN THE POTENTIAL SAFETY IMPACT OF THIS DEVICE, I FIND IT RIDICULOUS THAT ONE IT SHORTED, TWO THE PRICE IN LABOR TO REPLACE AND THE DEALERSHIP / VW CORPORATE UNWILLING TO ADDRESS THE CONCERN, OTHER THAN TO SAY I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS WAS A REAL PROBLEM WITH OTHER MODELS IN THE VW LINE UP, INCLUDING A HUGE RECALL FOR CHRYSLER. I REALLY THINK SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND DETERMINE IF THERE IS A RECALL THAT SHOULD BE DONE HERE. VERY DANGEROUS NOT KNOWING IF THE CLOCKSPRING IMPACTS THE AIR BAG SYSTEM IN MY VEHICLE, LET ALONE NOT HAVING A FUNCTIONING HORN. *TR

LAST WEEK MY WIFE TOLD ME THAT SHE COULD SMELL AN ELECTRICAL SHORT AND FEEL A BURNING SENSATION COMING FROM HER VW DRIVER?S SEAT WHILE SHE HAD HER SEAT WARMER ON. I IMMEDIATELY HAD HER TAKE IT IN TO THE LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THIS ISSUE IS A FIRE HAZARD AND SAFETY ISSUE AS WE COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR THAT THE SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM COULD CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE POWER ASSISTED SYSTEMS WHILE IN MOTION RENDERING THE CAR UNMANAGEABLE IN TRAFFIC. ADDITIONALLY, WE COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE BURNING PAIN TRANSMITTED THROUGH THE DRIVER?S SEAT TO MY WIFE?S FLESH WAS PAINFUL ENOUGH TO POTENTIALLY DISTRACT HER FULL ATTENTION FROM DRIVING. BECAUSE OF THE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AND SAFETY FAILURE?S WE MUST INSIST THAT VW TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR OF OUR VEHICLE AND REIMBURSE US PROMPTLY FOR OUR COSTS AND EXPENSES. *TR

CAR LOST POWER AND LURCHED, ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE OVER 20-30 MPH. WAS ABLE TO PULL CAR OVER OFF OF 2-LANE ROAD. COULD NOT START CAR. HAD TO HAVE A TOW. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THERE HAS BEEN A FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM PROBLEM AND THE FIRST HAPPENED ALMOST A YEAR AGO. THE FUEL PUMP WAS "BAD" ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. CAR WAS REPAIRED, ALONG WITH A REPLACED FUEL INJECTOR (2ND TIME). PICKED UP CAR AND PROCEEDED TO LEAVE THE DEALER. CAR WAS DRIVING LIKE A TRUCK AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. ENGINE LIGHT REPEATEDLY FLASHING, BAD FUMES IN CAR. WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND TURN AROUND AND MAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. TODAY IT'S THE COIL. AND "THIS IS A FLUKE" AND CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME. THEY ARE REPLACING THE COIL, BUT NOW WHEN WILL THE NEXT ONE HAPPEN? THIS 2011 TIGUAN HAS HAD NUMEROUS FUEL PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT IT. ALSO, I DID EXPERIENCE THE EXTERNAL LIGHTS RECALL ISSUE AND THIS WAS FIXED EARLIER THIS YEAR. SEEMS THERE IS A LOT WRONG WITH THIS CAR AND NOW I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE NEXT ISSUE WILL HAPPEN AND WHERE I WILL BE WHEN THAT HAPPENS! *TR

WE BOUGHT 2011 VW TIGUAN SE IN MAY 2011, AND THIS NOTORIOUS IGNITION-COIL ISSUE HAPPENED TWICE TO US ALREADY. BELOW IS THE TIMELINE & DETAILS. ON 4/19/2014, WE FINISHED THE LAST MANUFACTURER-COVERED-SERVICE AT A DEALERSHIP (3 YEARS/36K MILES), AND WE WERE TOLD OUR CAR IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. ON 5/15/2014, THE CAR'S ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR CANNOT INCREASE ITS SPEED. ON 5/16/2014, THE STAFF OF THE SAME DEALERSHIP AS ABOVE CHECKED THE CAR & TOLD US #1 & #2 IGNITION COILS WERE DEAD. AFTER THEY REPLACED THEM, THE ISSUE HAS GONE. ON 9/13/2014, WE FINISHED THE RECALL SERVICE FOR THE CAR REGARDING TO THE FUEL BUBBLES ISSUE. ACCORDING TO THE STAFF OF THE SAME DEALERSHIP AS ABOVE, THE SOFTWARE RELATED TO THE ISSUE HAS BEEN CORRECTED, AND EVERYTHING ELSE CHECKED WAS OK. ON 9/15/2014, THE CAR'S ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR CANNOT INCREASE ITS SPEED AGAIN! IT BEHAVED EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS IT DID IN MAY. WE HAVE TO TOW THE CAR TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP AS ABOVE. ON 9/16/2014, THE STAFF OF THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE CAR & TOLD US #4 IGNITION COIL WAS DEAD. I ASKED THEM TO REPLACE BOTH #3 AND #4 IGNITION COILS THIS TIME. AFTER THEY REPLACED THEM, THE ISSUE HAS GONE. I ALSO ASKED THE STAFF, "IS IT NORMAL TO HAVE THIS IGNITION COIL SO OFTEN FOR A 3 YEAR OLD CAR? HOW FREQUENTLY WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION COIL? I DON'T WANT MY WIFE AND BABY STUCK IN TRAFFIC LIKE THIS TIME.". HOWEVER, NO ANSWER OR SUGGESTION WAS GIVEN SINCE THE STAFF CLAIMED HE'S NOT A MECHANICS. THIS TIME, WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE TOWING SERVICE, PARTS, AND THE LABOR COST (1.5 HOURS?!). THE STAFF SUGGESTED US TO SAVE THE RECEIPT FOR FUTURE JUST IN CASE THERE WOULD BE A RECALL RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. I SEARCHED THE VW IGNITION COIL ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND THIS WEBSITE AND OTHER RESOURCES TO FILE THE COMPLAINTS. THEN I REALIZED THIS NOTORIOUS IGNITION COIL ISSUE HAS BEEN THERE FOR A WHILE WITH VW CARS. *TR

THE ENGINES REAR MAIN OIL SEAL STARTED LEAKING. BROUGHT IT TO VOLKSWAGEN DEALER WHERE THE CAR WAS BOUGHT AND STATED THAT THERE WAS THOUGHT TO BE AN OIL LEAK AND WHILE THE OIL CHANGE WAS DONE IF THEY COULD TAKE A LOOK IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. NOW AT 65000 MILES AND 5000 OVER THE FACTORY WARRANTY THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM AND ARE WANTING OVER $1500 TO FIX IT. THE WHOLE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS SOAKED IN OIL AND MY ONCE NICE DRIVEWAY LOOKS LIKE A TRUCK STOP. VOLKSWAGEN REFUSES TO WORK WITH US. I FIND IT ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS THAT SUCH A NEW CAR SHOULD HAVE SUCH AN EXPENSIVE ISSUE WITH SO LITTLE MILES. MY WORK TRUCK HAS 300K MILES AND HAS YET TO DRIP EVEN A DROP OF OIL IN MY DRIVEWAY... AND ITS OVER 10 YEARS OLD. THE BIGGEST KICKER IS THE DEALERS LACK TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM TILL WELL AFTER THE WARRANTY WAS PASSED. *JS

I START UP THE CAR, MOVE FORWARD AND GET READY TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND CAR JUST DIES. VW SAID THEY NEED TO HAVE WARNING LIGHTS OR SOMETHING SO THEY CAN GET THE INFORMATION FROM THE COMPUTER AND SINCE THERE ARE NONE, IT WON'T TELL THEM ANYTHING. EVEN IN HIGH-SPEED DRIVING IT SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE THERE IS A LULL OR THAT FUEL IS NOT BE INJECTED. CAR DOES NOT FEEL SAFE. I ONLY USE PREMIUM GAS AND KEEP IT ABOVE 1/4 OF A TANK AS WELL. I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR. UNFORTUNATELY, I CANNOT CHANGE IT OUT AT THIS TIME. *TR
WE HAD A PARTIAL LOSS OF EXTERIOR LIGHTING ON OUR 2011 VW TIGUAN AT ROUGHLY 61,000 MILES. WE LOST PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT, REAR DRIVER SIDE BLINKER, FRONT PASSENGER BLINKER, REVERSE LIGHTS, AND TAG LIGHTS. WE TRIED TO REPLACE THE BULBS BUT BULBS WERE FINE. I ALSO CHECKED ALL FUSES AND ALL WERE OK NONE WERE BLOWN. WE THEN TOOK THE CAR TO AN IMPORT SPECIALIST SINCE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THEY FOUND A CIRCUIT UNDER THE FUSEBOX THAT OVERHEATED AND MELTED. THEY REPLACED THE CIRCUIT AND THE LIGHTING WAS RESTORED, HOWEVER THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD MOST LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN. THE REPLACED CIRCUIT ONLY LASTED ABOUT THREE WEEKS AND NOW WE HAVE LOST THE SAME EXTERIOR LIGHTING AS BEFORE. WE CONTACTED VW SERVICE AND THEY SAID BASED ON OUR VIN # THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR OUR VEHICLE. *TR
THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS -10F TODAY. I STARTED THE CAR AND ALLOWED IT TO WARM UP FOR 10 MINUTES BEFORE DRIVING IT APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES ON AN ERRAND. I PARKED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN I RETURNED AND STARTED THE CAR, THE STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST THE ELECTRONIC ASSIST FOR STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME BUT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND I WILL BE HAVING IT TOWED TO THE SHOP. ** A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM SO I THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT TO FILE THIS. *TR
RIGHT SIDE HEADLAMP, TURN SIGNAL, BRAKE LIGHT INOPERATIVE. 30 AMP FUSE ONE BLADE BURNT BUT FUSE NOT BLOWN. FUSE BOX MELTED AROUND CONTACT. *TR
WHEN TRYING TO LEAVE A PARKING SPOT, CAR STALLED. WAS ABLE TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTART CAR. TOOK TO DEALER AND A FUEL SENDING RELAY WAS REPLACED. HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP 6 MONTHS PRIOR FOR THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE REPORTED MULTIPLE TIMES ON THIS MODEL. DEALER SAID THEY REPLACED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN. CAR RETURNED TO SHOP AND THIS TIME THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AGAIN. THANKFULLY THIS DID NOT OCCUR ON HIGHWAY AS OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED, BUT NOW DON'T HAVE FAITH IN THIS VEHICLE. VW WOULD NOT HELP REPAIR COSTS AS CAR IS NOW (THIRD INCIDENT) OVER THE WARRANTY MILEAGE. WOULD NOT PURCHASE AGAIN! *TR
DURING DRIVING ONE HEADLIGHT (LEFT), THIRD BRAKE LIGHT, AND FRONT RIGHT TURN SIGNAL GAVE A BULB OUT FAULT. ALSO, THE BULBS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. AFTER DRIVING FOR 30 MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTING THE CAR, THE FAULTS WERE GONE AND BULBS WERE FUNCTIONAL. THIS REPEATED THE NEXT DAY WITH BULB OUT FAULTS AND NON-FUNCTIONING BULBS BUT THEN RESET AGAIN AFTER RESTARTING. *TR
IN NOVEMBER MY DRIVERS HEADLIGHT WENT OUT I REPLACED THE BULB THEN IT WAS WORKING BUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE GOES OUT THIS TIME NOT ONLY MY HEADLIGHT MY TURN SIGNAL ALSO GOES OUT FROM THE FRONT. THEN I GET PULLED OVER BECAUSE NOW I DON'T HAVE A DRIVER SIDE BACK SIGNAL LIGHT. I REPLACED ALL OF THE BULBS AND THEY STILL DON'T WORK. I DON'T HAVE WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE. IT HAS BECOME A BIG PROBLEM FOR ME NOT ONLY THAT, ITS A HAZARD TO BE ON THE ROADS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND NOW I NEED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE IN, BUT THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE TO COMMUTE. *TR
A FEW DAYS AGO I GOT A WARNING ON MY CAR SAYING THE FRONT RIGHT TURN SIGNAL NEEDED TO BE CHECKED. IT WASN'T AN EMERGENCY SITUATION SINCE THE REAR AND SIDE MIRROR TURN SIGNALS STILL FUNCTIONED. I HAD ALSO HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL ONLINE, SO I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS JUST TELLING ME I WAS PART OF THE RECALL AND WOULD NEED TO TAKE IT IN SOON. LAST NIGHT, DRIVING IN THE DARK, I LOST A HEADLIGHT, FOG LIGHT, AND THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT. IT WAS DECIDED TO MAKE THE 4 HOUR TRIP TO THE NEAREST VW DEALER THIS WEEKEND TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THIS MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK, I LOST VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE REMAINING EXTERIOR LIGHTING. LUCKILY IT WAS A BRIGHT MORNING, AND WORK IS NOT FAR. BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF TWO BRAKE LIGHTS, AND ASSUMING I WOULD LOSE THE OTHER ONE, I HAD VW TOW MY CAR TODAY TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THIS IS MY LIST OF LIGHTS LOST AS OF 12.6.13 8:00 AM: FR DIPPED BEAM, FR TURN SIGNAL, FR MAIN BEAM, FR FOG LIGHT, FL SIDE LIGHT, RL TURN SIGNAL, RL BRAKE LIGHT, RR SIDE LIGHT, 3RD BRAKE LIGHT, R REVERSE LIGHT, AND LICENSE PLATE LIGHT. FORTUNATELY I AM STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SO IT WILL BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME REGARDLESS OF AN OFFICIAL RECALL. *TR
WHEN I LEFT THE HOUSE IN THE MORNING FOR WORK MY LIGHT-OUT INDICATOR WAS SHOWING AND I DID IN FACT HAVE A FRONT LIGHT OUT, AS IT WAS SUNNY AND NICE, I DECIDED TO REPLACE IT AFTER WORK, HOWEVER ON MY WAY DRIVING TO WORK (40 MILE DRIVE) I HAD INFORMATION ALERTS ON MY CAR DISPLAY THAT I HAD LOST MOST/ ALMOST ALL OF MY EXTERIOR LIGHTS INCLUDING: LOW. HIGH, FOG, MY BLINKERS WERE INTERMITTENTLY WORKING, AND THEN EVEN MY LICENSE PLATE LIGHT. I MADE IT TO WORK AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE FUSE BOXES WHICH I FOUND AN ARTICLE ONLINE ABOUT. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR A WHOLE NEW FUSE BOX AND THE MECHANIC KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT THERE WAS NO OFFICIAL RECALL ON IT, I THINK THERE SHOULD BE. I COULD HAVE LOST BRAKE LIGHTS TOO, IT COULD HAVE BEEN LATE AND DARK AND I COULD HAVE DIED. *TR
FUSE BOX MELTING CAUSING LIGHT SYSTEM FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. FAULTY DESIGN/METAL SCREW NEXT TO 30 AMP FUSE CAUSING ARC. *TR
LIGHTS STARTED RANDOMLY GOING OFF AND ON..IT WOULD BE LEFT FRONT LOW BEAM AND RIGHT FRONT HIGH BEAM THEN NO TAIL LIGHTS OR TURN SIGNAL, ETC. BUT AFTER A FEW MINS THEY WOULD COME BACK ON THEN GO BACK OFF. IT IS GWTTIN WORSE AND OCCURS MORE OFTEN NOW AND I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING IT AT NIGHT. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT NOT LIGHTING, THE TURN SIGNAL ON THE SAME SIDE DOES NOT WORK AND THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TAIL LIGHT DOES NOT WORK. *TR
WHILE DRIVING I RECEIVED MULTIPLE ALERTS OF BULB FAILURES AND HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, TAIL LIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL. CAUSE WAS A FUSE AND SOCKET IN THE FUSE BOX THAT MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CHECKED THE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED RECALL HOWEVER MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED SO I WANTED TO BRING IT TO YOUR ATTENTION. *TR
ALERT MESSAGES APPEARED ON THE INFORMATION DISPLAY STATING THAT MULTIPLE EXTERIOR LIGHTS FAILED. I CHECKED AND THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY SIX EXTERIOR LIGHTS THAT ARE NOT WORKING. MY HUSBAND SUGGESTED THAT THIS MIGHT BE A FUSE. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH TO SEE IF I COULD DETERMINE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I FOUND ARTICLES ON SEVERAL REPUTABLE NEWS SITES STATING THAT VOLKSWAGEN HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR 800,000 TIGUAN MODELS WORLDWIDE FOR LIGHTING ISSUES. WHEN I CALLED OUR LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER, THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY RECALLS. *TR
MY 2011 TIGUAN IS ERRONEOUSLY AND INTERMITTENTLY REPORTING THAT LAMPS ARE OUT. I WENT TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A MELTED FUSE BOX. I HAVE BEEN ON A LOT OF FORUM ONLINE, AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON FINDING AMONG VW OWNERS,MORE SO TIGUAN. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY VWOFA HAS NOT LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE AS YET. MY BRAKE LIGHTS, MY TAIL LIGHTS, MY HEADLIGHTS ARE ALL OUT. THE IDEA THAT A FUSE BOX COULD BE MELTING UNDER THE HOOD IS QUITE DISTURBING. VW SHOULD LOOK INTO THE MATTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, BECAUSE THAT 3/36K MILES WARRANTY THAT WOULD POSSIBLY COVER IT, DOES NOT CUT IT, CONSIDERING THAT THIS ISSUE USUALLY HAPPENS AROUND 40K MILES. *TR
THE FUSE BOX IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MELTED. THIS CAUSED MY FRONT-RIGHT HEADLIGHT, REAR-LEFT BRAKE AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHT, AND MIDDLE BRAKE LIGHT TO STOP WORKING. MY CAR IS ALL STOCK AND I'VE DONE NOTHING TO CAUSE IT TO EXERT EXCESS ELECTRICAL POWER. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH VW AND IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. *TR
MY BOUGHT NEW 2011 TIGUAN SE LIGHTS WERE GOING OUT-!FRONT HEAD LIGHT, FOG LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS , LICENSE PLATE DUE WHAT VW SAID WAS A MELTED FUSE BOX. ALSO MY CAR WOULD STALE AT LOW MPH IN THE WINTER TIME SINCE I PURCHASED IT FEB 2011( VW SERVICE RESPONSE WHEN I INITIALLY CALLED " IT COULD BE DUE TO COLD WEATHERB" WHERE ( MICHIGAN FEBRUARY) KNOWING WE HAVE COLD WINTERS WHY WOULD THEY SELL THESE CARS IN THIS CLIMATE ?! SAID IT COULD BE DUE TO ONE PROBLEM WHICH THEY FIXED AND NOW IT'S CUZ THE MELTED FUSE BOX). *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW 2011 TIGUAN SE AND IT STALLS OUT AT AROUND 5 MPH. THIS IS VERY DANGERS IN PARKING LOTS ( ROLLED INTO LIGHT POST). VW SERVICE FIRST TIME I BROUGHT IT IN TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO A BAD FUEL INJECTOR WHICH THEY REPLACED , WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN JUST THIS PAST NOVEMBER THEY SAID IT WAS A MELTED FUSE BOX ON TOP OF MY LIGHTS GOING OUT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING... MULTIPLE EXTERIOR LIGHTS (BRAKELIGHTS. HEADLIGHTS, HIGH BEAMS, FOG LIGHTS, AND TURN SIGNALS) FAILED... WOULD NOT FIX ITSELF AFTER SHUTTING OFF CAR AND RESTARTING. BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND WAS NOTIFIED IT WAS A MELTED FUSEBOX. *TR
2011 VW TIGUAN - LIGHTS (HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, SIGNALS) ALL RANDOMLY TURN OFF FOR VARYING PERIODS OF TIME. THE WARNING INDICATOR IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR INDICATES A LIGHT IS OUT. RESEARCH INDICATED POSSIBLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX ISSUE, FURTHER INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED THIS. A FUSE IN THE ENGINE FUSE BOX APPEARS FAULTY AND HAS BEGUN MELTING THE FUSE BOX ITSELF. IT APPEARS THERE ARE NUMEROUS TIGUANS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2009 AND 2011 WHICH ARE AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. I AM CURRENTLY PLACING MYSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK ON THE ROAD. I WILL SEEK TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED BUT WOULD LIKE VW OF AMERICA AND OTHER DRIVERS TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT POSES MORE OF A SAFETY CONCERN, OR AN INJURY. *TR
AFTER DRIVING THREE HOURS I STOPPED TO GET FUEL. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR TO LEAVE THE GAS STATION I SAW AND HEARD THE DIRECTIONAL FLASHER SPEED UP. I TURNED OFF THE DIRECTIONAL ONCE I EXITED THE STATION. I THEN SIGNALED TO TURN RIGHT AND THE FLASHER INCREASED FLASHING SPEED AFTER 5 SECONDS. I THEN RECEIVED NUMEROUS DIFFERENT BULB OUT MESSAGES ON THE MULTI FUNCTION DISPLAY. I GOT OUT AND LOOKED AND FOUND THE RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT OUT AS WELL AS NUMEROUS AMBER AND RED LIGHTS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. THE DIRECTIONAL ON THE MIRROR ASSEMBLY IS WORKING THEN WHEN I PARKED THE CAR IT SHOWED THE REAR LEFT TAIL LIGHT IS OUT. I CONFIRMED THIS LIGHT IS OUT NOW. THIS WAS NIGHT DRIVING AND THIS VEHICLE HAD A MAJOR ELECTRICAL FAILURE CAUSING MULTIPLE LIGHTS INCLUDING HEAD LAMPS TO BE OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE SCHEDULED TO BE SERVICED AND DIAGNOSED SHORTLY AT A VW DEALER. *TR
I WAS AT WORK WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE LOWER LEVEL OF A PARKING GARAGE. WHEN I CAME OUT TO LEAVE FOR HOME, I STARTED THE CAR AND IT IMMEDIATELY INDICATED VIA CENTER MFD DISPLAY THAT ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTS NEED TO BE CHECKED. LEFT LOW BEAM, RIGHT LOW BEAM, LEFT TURN SIGNAL, RIGHT TURN SIGNAL, ETC. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT SEE ME UNTIL 5 DAYS LATER. THE NEXT DAY, HOWEVER, THE LIGHTS WERE BACK ON. I MADE THE APPOINTMENT FOR 5 DAYS LATER AND THE DEALER, UNDER WARRANTY, REPLACED A MELTED FUSE AND FUSE BLOCK UNDER THE HOOD. I ASKED IF THEY CORRECTED ROOT CAUSE AND THEY SAID, "NO! WE JUST REPLACED THE BAD PARTS." *TR
WHILE OPERATING THE 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN, ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 65MPH, EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE THAT CAUSED A HEADLIGHT / DRIVING LIGHT / TURN SIGNAL / BRAKE LIGHT / MARKER LIGHT AND PLATE LIGHT FAILURE. THE FAILURE BECAME INTERMITTENT UNTIL TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. DEALER STATED "LOOKED UP WIRING DIAGRAM AND TRACED TO A FUSE IN ENGINE FUSE BLOCK. / FUSE NOT BLOWN, BUT HAS CORROSION. REMOVED FUSE AND FOUND FUSE BLOCK MELTING. NEEDS FUSE AND BLOCK. REPLACED BOTH AND LIGHTING OK NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS, BRAKE, AND TURN SIGNALS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A MELTED FUSE IN THE FUSE BOX AND AS A RESULT, THE FUSE BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUSE UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE LIGHT AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
WHEN STARTING MY CAR (AFTER IT HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE FOR OVER 24 HRS) I IMMEDIATELY GOT A "CHECK LEFT FRONT LOWBEAM" WARNING PLUS A WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH. TURNED OFF THE CAR, TURNED IT BACK ON TO SEE IF IT CLEARED. THEN I GOT THE SAME WARNING PLUS "CHECK LEFT FRONT FOG LIGHT". GOT OUT OF THE CAR, SURE ENOUGH, THEY WERE BOTH OUT. I THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE THEY WERE BOTH OUT AT THE SAME TIME, BUT POSSIBLY JUST A BULB OR FUSE. STARTED TO DRIVE DOWN THE STREET AND MORE WARNINGS FOR DIFFERENT LIGHTS KEPT COMING UP. I TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME (HAD GONE MAYBE A .25 MILE). MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALER, AND BY THE TIME I DROVE MY CAR IN (5.5 MILES DOOR TO DOOR) ALL OF MY EXTERIOR LIGHTS HAD THROWN A WARNING AND WERE NO LONGER WORKING (HIGH BEAMS, LOW BEAMS, FOG LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, LICENSE PLATE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHTS, ETC. ETC.). THIS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF ALL OF MY LIGHTS SIMULTANEOUSLY WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUSE PANEL AND MELTED FUSE, WHICH WAS REPLACED (THANKFULLY) UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY (WOULD HAVE BEEN OVER $600 TO REPAIR SOMETHING THAT FAILED 1100 MILES AFTER MY FACTORY WARRANTY OTHERWISE). DEALER TOLD ME THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE FUSE PANEL WITH A REDESIGNED ONE. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST INSTANCE THEY WERE AWARE OF OF THIS HAPPENING, BUT INDICATED NO RECALL HAD BEEN DECLARED. I AM HOPEFUL THIS FIX ELIMINATES THE ISSUE FROM HAPPENING IN ANOTHER 30-40K MILES, AND THAT THERE ARE NO OTHER FAILURES OR PERFORMANCE DEGREDATION IN OTHER COMPONENTS AS A RESULT. HOPEFULLY THIS PART WILL BE RECALLED BEFORE THIS ELECTRICAL GREMLIN HITS TOO MANY OTHER VEHICLES. I'M LUCKY THIS HAPPENED DURING THE DAY IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON A SNOWY MOUNTAIN PASS AT NIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUSE BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
FIRST NOTICED HEADLIGHT OUT, CHANGED IT AND STILL DID NOT WORK. THEN I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT TURN SIGNAL ALSO DID NOT WORK. I WALKED AROUND THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT NOT ONLY DID THE FRONT HEADLIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL NOT WORK BUT ALSO THE OPPOSITE REAR BRAKE AND TURN SIGNAL AS WELL. CLEARLY SOMETHING IS WRONG. I WENT TO CHECK THE FUSE IT WAS COMPLETELY MELTED AS WAS THE BOX ITSELF! YOU CAN NOT JUST REPLACE THE FUSE BECAUSE THE BOX IS DAMAGED AND YOU CAN'T JUST REPLACE THE BOX BECAUSE THERE IS TO MUCH AMPAGE GOING TO THE BOX THAT WILL CAUSE IT TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN! VW NEEDS TO MAKE THIS WRONG, RIGHT! *TR
LOST HALF OF ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTING WHEN THE FUSE BOX MELTED AT A 30 AMP FUSE. BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, AND HEAD LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY AS THE LIGHTING MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE MAIN FUSE PANEL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL ITEMS WERE REPORTED AS FAILING BY THE VEHICLE INFORMATION CENTER (LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT, BACKUP LIGHT, SIDE MARKER LIGHT, FOG LIGHT, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT, ETC.) AND CONFIRMED BY PERFORMING A WALK AROUND OF THE VEHICLE. AN ONLINE SEARCH PROVIDED INFORMATION RELATING TO SIMILAR ISSUES FOR OTHER VW OWNERS. THE ISSUE WAS A FUSE, LOCATED IN A FUSE BLOCK UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE, THAT HAD MELTED ON ONE SIDE OF THE FUSE ENOUGH TO TEAR THE FUSE LINK FROM THE FUSE BLADE. THE FUSE WAS REMOVED, HOWEVER, ENOUGH DAMAGE HAS BEEN SUFFERED BY THE FUSE SOCKET THAT A NEW FUSE CANNOT BE INSERTED. A NEW FUSE BLOCK ASSEMBLY WILL BE REQUIRED TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. THERE IS CLEARLY AN UNDERLYING ISSUE WITH THE FUSE BLOCK DESIGN. OVERHEATING OF THE FUSE BLADE, CAUSED BY A POOR CONNECTION, IS DESTROYING THE FUSE BODY AND SOCKET. THIS ISSUE CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE LIGHTING COMPONENTS ARE RENDERED USELESS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT.
TRAVELING NORTH/WEST BOUND ON INTERSTATE 94 IN MAPLE GROVE, MN. CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, STARTED STUTTERING, AND THEN SHUT OFF. WAITED 2 HOURS FOR A TOW ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY WITH A 3 YEAR OLD IN 90 DEGREE HEAT. *TR WAS TOWED TO LUTHER WEST SIDE VW DEALER AND THEY FOUND A FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THERE HAS BEEN ONGOING ISSUES WITH THESE PUMPS IN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS 2009 AND 2010. THOSE YEARS WERE INVESTIGATED BY THE NTSB PREVIOUSLY AND THE VW WARRANTY FOR THE PART WAS EXTENDED AS A RESULT. BUT AS OF NOW VW IS REFUSING TO FIX THE PART UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
INTERMITTENT CHECK LIGHTS CYCLES THROUGH AND SHOWS HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING, THEN BRAKE LIGHTS. WHEN I TAKE INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY CHECK THE COMPUTER AND SAY THAT THERE IS NO HARD RECORDED ERROR. THE DANGER IS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND ONCE AT NIGHT TO WHERE MY CAR WAS LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE BLINKING ON AND OFF. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED WHEN BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS NOTHING CAN BE FOUND. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RAISE THE PASSENGER SEAT FROM THE RECLINED POSITION BUT THE SEAT WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT WAS INFORMED THE SEATS WERE DESIGNED NOT TO RAISE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN UNLESS THE DRIVER PHYSICALLY LIFTED THE SEAT FOR THE PASSENGER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ALSO STATED THE SEAT WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
A FUSE HAS MELTED (NOT BURNED OUT IN THE TYPICAL MANNER), AND MELTED PART OF THE FUSE BLOCK. THIS CAUSED ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION. HEADLIGHTS ON ONE SIDE, ONE TURN SIGNAL, BULBS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLIES (BOTH SIDES), ONE BACKUP LIGHT AND THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. ALL APPEARED TO BE BURNED OUT. UPON REPLACEMENT OF THE FUSE, ALL WORKED PROPERLY. FROM RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, WE FOUND NUMEROUS WEBSITES AND FORUMS WHERE THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON THESE VEHICLES FROM 2009-2013, USUALLY AROUND 40-50,000 MILES. THE LOSS OF THESE LIGHTS CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE TO THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GETTING SO HOT AS TO MELT THE WAY IT DID. IT HAS BEEN STATED THAT VW OF AMERICA HAS REFUSED TO CORRECT THESE PROBLEMS...UPDATED 09-18-13 *BF THE FUSE WAS REPLACED TO GET ALL OF THE LIGHTS WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN.
THE PARKING BRAKE SETS ITSELF WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. ALSO, WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE BRAKES AND COME TO A STOP, IT WILL NOT ROLL FORWARD OR MOVE UNTIL THE GAS IS PRESSED. THE NECESSITY OF PRESSING THE GAS TO MOVE AT ALL IS ALSO THE CASE IN REVERSE. *TR
INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF RIGHT HEADLIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL. VW DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AS MELTED FUSE BOX. FUSE BOX REPLACED AND ISSUE RESOLVED. *TR
I STARTED RECEIVING WARNING LIGHTS THAT THERE WERE BURNED OUT BULBS AROUND THE CAR. IT STARTED WITH THE RIGHT FRONT HIGH BEAM, THEN LOW BEAM. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE SAME DAY AS THERE WAS A SAFETY CONCERN WITH AN OUT HEADLIGHT. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP THE WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF AND I WENT HOME. BY THE END OF THE NEXT DAY AND I STARTED TO RECEIVING THE SAME WARNING, RIGHT FRONT HIGH AND LOW BEAM. THE WARNING WOULD GO AWAY IF I CYCLED THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF AND THE HIGH AND LOW BEAM WOULD COME BACK ON. I SCHEDULED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH VW TO HAVE THEM CHECK THINGS OUT AND WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD BE A PROBLEM THAT THEY HAD FIXED THE WEEK BEFORE ON THE SAME CAR, A MELTED FUSE BOX RELAY. ON MY WAY TO THE DEALER, ALL OF MY BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS WENT OUT AND SURE ENOUGH IT WAS THE MELTED RELAY. VW REFUSED TO STAND BEHIND THE REPAIR AND SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME IF THERE WAS A RECALL. *TR UPDATED 9/19/13 *CN UPDATED 09/27/2013 *JS
ALL THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING WAS INTERMITTENTLY NOT WORKING. TURNING ON HEADLAMPS AND TURNING ON BRIGHT LIGHTS WOULD OFTEN FIX THE PROBLEM - HEADLIGHTS, BLINKERS AND FOG LAMPS WOULD WORK AGAIN. WHEN THIS WOULD NOT WORK MORE OFTEN THAN NOT TURNING THE CAR OFF AND STARTING IT AGAIN WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE. DEALERSHIP INITIALLY REPLACED A CONTROL MODULE IN JANUARY OF 2013. PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A WHILE. WHEN THE PROBLEM CAME BACK TODAY, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY HAD NOW HAD MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS PROBLEM AND SUSPECTED A MELTED FUSE BLOCK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. DEALER GAVE ME THE FAILED PART AND REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER, PERHAPS A REDESIGNED PART AS THE PART NUMBER IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. THE 30A FUSE WHICH CONTROLS THE HEADLAMPS IS OBVIOUSLY MELTED AT THE BLOCK. VEHICLE IS COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH A $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. SPOKE WITH VW OF AMERICA AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD COVER MY COSTS FOR REPLACEMENT AS DEALER CLAIMED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS ISSUE AND SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR THIS ISSUE ALSO RESULTS IN REPORTS OF MANY OTHERS HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE FUSE BLOCK IN THIS VEHICLE. VW OF AMERICA POLITELY DENIED THIS REQUEST. SUGGEST THAT YOU PURSUE THE ISSUE AND SUGGEST TO VW OF AMERICA THAT THEY ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS COMPONENT WHICH IS FAILING AND, AS IT IS AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT, MIGHT CAUSE AN UNDER THE HOOD FIRE. *TR UPDATED 09/17/13*LJ THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT, MULTIPLE INDICATOR LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER: CHECK FRONT RIGHT LOW BEAM, CHECK FRONT RIGHT FOG LIGHT, CHECK REAR LEFT SIDE LIGHT, CHECK LEFT FRONT SIDE LIGHT, NUMBER PLATE CHECK LICENSE PLATE LIGHTING, CHECK THIRD BRAKE LIGHT, CHECK REAR LEFT BRAKE LIGHT, CHECK FRONT RIGHT TURN SIGNAL, AND CHECK REAR RIGHT SIDE LIGHT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO EXAMINE THE CAR. ONLY ONE HEAD-LIGHT AND ONE TAIL-LIGHT WAS WORKING. ALL OTHER LIGHTS WERE OUT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON TWICE WITHOUT ANY CHANGE IN THE LIGHTS. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT RIGHT AWAY; HOWEVER THEY WERE CLOSING. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE PROBLEM WAS KNOWN TO BE THE RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE FUSE BOX AND REQUESTED THAT I RETURN IN THE MORNING. I'VE REPORTED SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL/LIGHTING SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW; HOWEVER THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE LIGHTING SYSTEM AND THE FIRST TIME I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A DEFECTIVE FUSE BOX. *TR *UPDATED 09-18-13 *BF UPDATED 9/27/2013 *JS
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITHIN THE LIMITED SPEED. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SUDDENLY OUT OF MY CONTROL. THE CAR MOVED LEFT AND RIGHT, BUT I COULDN'T CONTROL IT. I HIT THE BRAKE AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED BY HIT THE GUARDRAIL AFTER TURNING 180 DEGREE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE STEERING WHEEL LIGHT WAS ON BUT DISAPPEARED AFTERWARDS. THIS WAS A REALLY SCARING EXPERIENCE. I COULD BE KILLED. AFTER COMPLAINING THE STEERING WHEEL PROBLEM TO VOLKSWAGEN, SINCE THE STEERING WHEEL LIGHT (ORANGE) DISAPPEARED, THE CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE SAID IT WAS ME WHOM CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. I WAS FURIOUS AND INSISTED ON THE ISSUE BY SUGGESTING TO RUN A THOROUGH CHECK. I WAITED FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE I GOT A REPORT FROM VW TECHNICIAN. I WAS EXPECTING A THOROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE CAR'S STEERING SYSTEM, BUT I ONLY GOT A SHORT PAGE SAYING ABOUT THE CAR WAS DRIVABLE AND APPARENTLY NOTHING WRONG, EXCEPT A NOISE ( LIKE BEARING NOISE) WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. VW DIDN'T EVEN DO ANY COMPUTER TESTS OR ANY DETAILED TESTS ON THE CAR. THE NOISE PRODUCED BY THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ONCE AGAIN CONFIRMED THAT SOMETHING WRONG WITH STEERING. FINALLY, VW CONFIRMED THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING AND NEEDED TO CHANGE THE STEERING SYSTEM; HOWEVER, VW SAID I CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS COMPLETELY NONSENSE. FIRST, VW SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STEERING SYSTEM; HOWEVER, LATER BECAUSE OF THE OBVIOUS NOISE, NOW IT ADMITTED THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG AND SAID TO NEED TO CHANGE THE WHOLE STEERING SYSTEM. SINCE THERE WAS ONLY A SLIGHT DAMAGE AT THE LEFT BUMPER AT THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AND IT DIDN'T DAMAGE THE STEERING SYSTEM INSIDE; THUS, IT MUST BE THE MALFUNCTION OF STEERING THAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, THE WAY VOLKSWAGEN DEALT WITH MY COMPLAINT WAS HORRIBLE. VW TRIED TO PUSH ALL THE RESPONSIBILITY ON ME AND OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T SEE THE WHOLE THING FROM MY SIDE. *TR
SPORADIC, COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. BRAKES FAIL TO CATCH, PETAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR DOES NOT INITIATE ANY BRAKING. ONCE BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY RELEASED AND PUSHED AGAIN BRAKES FINALLY CATCH. THIS ISSUE OCCURS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS, SOMETIMES RIGHT AFTER CAR IS STARTED, OTHER TIMES AFTER IT HAS BEEN RUNNING A WHILE. HAS OCCURRED 5-7 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. VW TECHNICIANS CANNOT REPRODUCE, SO WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX. LUCKY THERE HAS BEEN ENOUGH STOPPING DISTANCE IN THE PREVIOUS INSTANCES TO PUS THE BRAKES TWICE, BUT THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THOSE IN THE TIGUAN AND SURROUNDING CARS. *TR
THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED SETTING, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, WILL INCREASE WHEN THE DECREASE SPEED BUTTON IS PRESSED. MORE SPECIFICALLY, WHEN REDUCING THE CRUISE CONTROL SPEED USING THE TOGGLE SWITCH AT THE END OF TURN SIGNAL STEM ON THE LEFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN, THE CRUISE SPEED WILL INCREASE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SPEED IF THERE IS ANY HESITATION IN RESETTING THE SPEED. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE SPEED IS SET AT 55 AND THE TOGGLE SWITCH IS PRESSED 5 TIMES TO SLOW THE CAR AND RESET THE SPEED TO 50, IF THERE IS A HESITATION OF A SECOND OR TWO AND THEN TOGGLE AGAIN TO SET THE SPEED AT 49, THE CRUISE WILL RESET TO 55 AND THE CAR WILL BEGIN ACCELERATING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SPEED. THIS OCCURS EVEN THOUGH THE ONLY BUTTON PRESSED IS THE REDUCE SPEED BUTTON. THIS OCCURS AT ANY SPEED SETTING (THIS CONDITION OCCURRED 100% OF THE TIMES TESTED AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 40 TO 70 MPH) AND UNDER ANY CONDITIONS (UPHILL, DOWN HILL, AND FLAT DRIVING) - SET THE SPEED LOWER, HESITATE, AND THEN REDUCE THE SPEED FURTHER - CAUSES THE CRUISE TO RESET BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SPEED AND THE CAR TO ACCELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY. HOPE THIS IS CLEAR - EMAIL OR CALL IF THIS REQUIRES FURTHER EXPLANATION. *TR
2011 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. CONSUMER STATES MALFUNCTION OF ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 50 MPH. MOMENTS BEFORE, COFFEE FROM AN OVER-FILLED CUP HAD SPILLED INTO THE RECESSED AREA WHERE THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH WAS LOCATED. WHEN THE CONSUMER REACHED FOR SOME NAPKINS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAME TO A SCREAMING HALT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NOT RELEASE. THE CONSUMER THEN PULLED THE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH; AFTER A NUMBER OF PULLS, IT FINALLY RELEASED THE BRAKES AND THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE SHOULDER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE OWNERS MANUAL CLEARLY STATED THAT WHEN THE ELECTRONIC PARKING SWITCH LEVER IS ENGAGED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, EMERGENCY BRAKING WILL OCCUR. BUT, ONLY AS LONG AS THE SWITCH IS BEING PULLED, OR UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. IF THE SWITCH IS RELEASED OR THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED, EMERGENCY BRAKING SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CEASE. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT DID NOT HAPPEN IN THIS INCIDENT. HE HAD BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL AND THE SWITCH WAS NOT PUSHED AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET OUT OF THE LANE. THE CONSUMER WAS PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR, THUS SATISFYING BOTH REQUIREMENTS FOR CEASING EMERGENCY BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS BUCKING BACK AND FORTH; THE VEHICLE WAS CLEARLY IN FIRST GEAR, UT THE CAR WAS NOT RELEASING THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, PERHAPS AS A RESULT OF THE SPILLED COFFEE. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE YELLOW PARKING BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, BUT DID NOT APPEAR AGAIN THE NEXT TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. *JB

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC, and Passat, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan, and 2012-2014 Jetta Sportwagen vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.
