Egr cooler broken and leaking exhaust gas to cabin making all passengers drousy, a/c vents pulls outside air. Making it a lot worse egr will be replaced and save for warranty inspection etc.. My safety was affected sue to carbon monoxide emissions, others were affected due to the drowsiness effects of the exhaust making the drive drousy at the wheel . No reproductions know. Inspection by owner No inspection yet due to the need of vehicle had to replace asap to keep using part saved for inspection. Engine light due to glow plugs, non related to egr cooler, and brakes lights due to sensor not replace yet.
My car is giving engine overheat warning when I am driving . I understand that this issue is with cooling system . Presently there is a open recall for this issue for the 2012 bmw x5. NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V248000 . But my car is not covered under this recall.
After accelerating normally on the highway the vehicle shut off completely, without warning, and put itself into neutral in the middle of a busy freeway. (No warning lights, no smoke or smell of any kind). The Car would not start despite multiple attempts using a jump start from the tow company. I could have been hit by another vehicle while stopped. The car was then towed to a BMW dealership where they determined an engine replacement was probably necessary because it appeared seized. (they could not turn the engine using a breaker bar with the belt off. ) No further investigation was done. The car was running: - castrol 5w-30, -regular oil & filter changes every 5,000 miles -was never modified -all the fuel injectors changed by the dealership under a recall 1 year before the vehicle died
Front passenger door would not unlock or open from inside or outside. Per dealer and report this appears to be failure of the passenger door actuator/solenoid. Door panel will require removal to confirm. There was no immediate safety issue, however with 3 small children, there is a reluctance to drive this car with the potential for doors locking and no way to extricate them should the problem occur on all doors. My understanding is there is no mechanical release associated with these doors. In addition, if an elderly/handicapped person had been in the front passenger seat during this occurrence, there could have been serious issues with extrication. I have been an engineer for 30 years and liken this problem to the old refrigerator doors latches trapping children inside and similarly, rear trunk latches with no interior releases. I have notified the manufacturer and reported this issue.
The DPF exhaust emissions system failed. BMW dealership refused to replace only replaced a holding tank. That code was not shown. The x5 left shop with a engine light and emissions failure. Independent shop scanned car explained diesel dpf system has failed and is under warranty.. dealership refused to fix. Car runs sluggish, engine warning keeps coming on and take to service. ... The egr cooler failed. The independent shop confirmed codes. Exhaust smell in cabin, reduced power, sluggish, and car goes into LIMP mode while I was driving on the freeway. The shut down of power caused me to almost crash into on coming lane of vehicles at highway speed. Engine light on and warning of engine failure and car stuck in limp mode . System says to take to dealer. . Please help as the dealer will not warranty or recall repair, even though I am under 100,000 miles and there are multiple recall and manufacturer extension warranty for these specific repairs. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD GOT OUT TO LOOK UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FAN BELT WAS MISSING. THE ENGINE STUTTERS OFTEN (EVERY DRIVE), AND ONCE IN A WHILE PRODUCES THICK WHITE SMOKE FOR A SECOND OR TWO WHEN ACCELERATING. THE ENGINE ALSO SUFFERS FROM HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION (I HAVE TO ADD A QUART OF ENGINE OIL EVERY 200 MILES). I'VE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS TWICE IN THE LAST 3 YEARS BECAUSE THEY ARE FOULED WITH OIL AND SOOTH AND THE ENGINE MISFIRES. DEALER IS STATING THE ISSUE IS RELATED TO S63 ENGINE VALVE STEM SEALS, AND RECOMMENDING THAT THESE BE REPLACED, BUT THE WORK WILL COST $7000 AND ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY! THIS IS CLEARLY A VALVE STEM SEAL DESIGN DEFECT OR INITIAL PRODUCTION/INSTALLATION DEFECT DEALER ALSO CLAIMS THIS IS COMMON ON E70 MODELS.*DT*JB
ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT AND CAR OVERHEATING CAUSED BY WATER PUMP, THERE'S NO RECALL FOR MY VIN BUT IT SEEMS THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH BMW X5 MODELS... THE BMW DID A RECALL ON MY X5 AND AFTER THEY FINISHED THE RECALL THE TRANSFER CASE STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY, HOWEVER, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS WORKING PERFECTLY BEFORE THE RECALLED. THE BMW POWER TRAIN RECALL DAMAGE THE TRANSFER CASE
SHUDDER AT LOW SPEED WHILE TURNING. THIS IS AN ISSUE WHICH I OBSERVE SINCE AN YEAR.
THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT BROKE FOR THE THIRD TIME. THE CAR HAS APPROX 60 K MILES, AND THE LAST REPLACEMENT WAS DONE IN MAY 2018, APPROX 15 K MILES AGO. VEHICLE WAS MOVING AND IT LOST THE STEERING (STEERING HYDRAULICS STOPPED WORKING, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER), BATTERY INDICATOR CAME ON AND THE ENGINE COOLING FAN SET ON HIGH SPEED. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, APPROX HALF THE MILE FROM THE HOUSE. WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY PULLED IT IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE. NOTIFIED THE DEALER AND WAITING FOR THEM TO COME AND PICK IT UP, THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEABLE. THIS INCIDENT, WITH THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT IS THE THIRD TIME AFTER THEIR INITIAL RECALL. BMW DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY FOR THIS.
THE VEHICLE SHUDDERS /LEARCHES WHILE TURNING DURING LOW SPEEDS. TRANSFER CASE ISSUE WHICH HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY BMW.

VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND DOCUMENTED VEHICLE....ENGINE SEIZED AT 95K MILES. NO CODES OR REASON GIVEN. VEHICLE HAS HAD $20-30K WORK DONE AT A REGISTERED BMW DEALER OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. BMW=BRING MONEY WITH. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BMW AND IF SOMEONE TRIED TO GIVE ME ONE, I WOULD RUN THE OTHER WAY. I'VE OWNED MANY CARS AND THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE, WORST PURCHASE I'VE EVER MADE. COST TO REPLACE ENGINE, $12K. CROOKS IN MY OPINION AND DO YOUR RESEARCH IF YOU DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS FRIENDLY WARNING. OH AND ONE MORE THING...AFTER I SPENT $12K TO REPLACE ENGINE, NOW THEY SAY THE TRANSFER CASE MAYBE COMPROMISED. DARE YOU LOOK UP WHAT THAT COSTS TO FIX. I WILL NOT PUT ONE MORE DIME INTO THIS VEHICLE. I AM DISGUSTED WITH THEIR ENTIRE OPERATION. THE ONLY POSITIVE IS THE WHEELS DID NOT LOCK UP WHEN THE ENGINE SEIZED, OTHERWISE, I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. ALL X5'S SHOULD BE RECALLED. DO NOT BUY BMW!!!!!!!!!!!! *TR
THERE WAS A WATER PUMP RECALL FOR MY BMW X5, I TOOK MY X5 DUE TO AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION, THE DEALER DIDN'T DO THE WATER PUMP RECALL, INSTEAD, THEY CHARGE ME FOR REPLACING THE IVM AND THE CHARGE AIR PIPE STATING THAT WAS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION, AFTER I PAID APPROXIMATELY $2,500 THEY CAME BACK AND TOLD ME THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION WAS DUE TO THE WATER PUMP, SO THEY CHARGED ME AN ADDITIONAL $1,380 FOR THE WATER PUMP. I JUST CHECKED THE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLES AND NOTICED THERE'S A WATER PUMP RECALL, HOWEVER, I HAD TO PURCHASE THE WATER PUMP AND OTHER ITEMS NOT NEEDED FOR THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE RELATED TO THE WATER PUMP. HOW CAN I SUBMIT A REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE AMOUNT AMOUNT PAID WHEN THERE WAS A RECALL AND I PAY FROM MY POCKET THE AMOUNT OF $3,880.00 RELATED TO THE WATER PUMP. ALSO, THE DEALER DID A DRIVE SHAFT RECALL, HOWEVER NOW THE TRANSFER CASE IS NOT WORKING, CREATING THE FRONT UNIVERSAL JOINT TO FAIL AFTER THE DRIVESHAFT RECALL WAS DONE, THE FRONT WHEELS IS AFFECTING THE VEHICLE TRACTION. WATER AND DEBRIS MAY BE ENTERING THE FRONT DRIVESHAFT'S UNIVERSAL JOINT AND MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE WEAR AND POSSIBLY RESULTING IN THE JOINT'S FAILURE. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS STARTED SHOWING AN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WITH A CODE 28A0. WHILE RESEARCHING, I FIND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FACED BY MANY OWNERS WHICH APPEARS TO BE OUT OF A DESIGN FLAW. THE REMEDY IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND NOT ATTRIBUTABLE TO ANY USER ERRORS. SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE N55 ENGINES FOR BMW, THE COMPANY SHOULD ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL AND GET ALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES CHECKED AND FIXED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY OVERHEATED WITH THE SERVICE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BMW MT KISCO LOCATED AT 250 KISCO AVE, MT KISCO, NY 10549, PHONE NUMBER: (914) 614-0884, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL PENDING REPAIRS. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V248000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE MOST DANGEROUS HIGHWAY IN COLORADO, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT FROM DOING 75MPH TO 50MPH DURING TRAFFIC HOUR, ALMOST CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. SO VERY DANGEROUS. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO MERGE OFF THE HIGHWAY AND HAVE MY CAR AND HAVE A MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THE ERROR CODE IS P15DF (HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP). I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND FOUND THAT BMW HAD BEEN TAKEN TO COURT ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. BMW HAD RECALLED 1000'S OF BMW'S FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. I WROTE TO BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEIR RESPONSE BASICALLY IS THAT MY CAR'S VIN DOES TO QUALIFY FOR THIS RECALL. I STATED TO THEM THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE IT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE 1000'S THAT WERE RECALLED. IN REALITY THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR IT. I FEEL THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED TO INCLUDE 1000'S OF OTHER X5'S, BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.
SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR BROKEN AND THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM OF BMW
IT IS MAKING A HORRIBLE CRYING NOICE AND IT'S VIBRATES. THE WATER PUMP WAS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF BUT STILL ONCE AGAIN PROBLEMS
EGR COOLER ISSUE/LEAK AND SPRING DETACHMENT.
THE SENSOR (TO DETECT IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT) UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND REQUIRES THE SEAT BELT TO BE ACTIVATED TO SILENCE THE WARNING BEEPS, EVEN WHEN THE PASSENGER SEAT IS NOT OCCUPIED, SO IT'S CLEARLY NOT FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED. LEADS ME TO QUESTION WHETHER THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH OUR 2007 BMW 530 AND THAT WAS FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED BY BMW AND WE WERE OFFERED A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS ITEM. KEEP WAITING ON THEM TO INCLUDE OUR X5. IT'S BEEN SEVERAL YEARS.
I PURCHASED MY BMW LAST YEAR IT HAD 89,000 MILES ON IT I WENT TO GET A OIL CHANGE AND 2 WEEKS LATER I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR JUST WENT FROM 65 MILES TO 40 MILES THE BIG ENGINE LIGHT CAN ON AND NOW I CANT GO OVER 50 MILES SO INCANTVGETBIN THE HIGH WAY CAN SOMEONE PLZ TELL.WHAT YO DO I NEED SOME ANSWERS
MY 2012 BMW X5 DEVELOPED TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM. THE TRANSFER CASE SHUTTERS AND THE CAR START JUMPING WHEN I MAKE LEFT OR RIGHT TURN FROM THE STOP, WHICH IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAR HAS 49200 MILES AS OF TODAY, SEP 2019. THIS REPRESENTS DANGER IN DRIVING THE CAR AND TRANSFER CASE HAS TO BE REPLACED. SEARCHING THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT IT'S A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2012 BMW X5 VEHICLES AND IN MY OPINION, BMW MUST FIX FAULTY TRANSFER CASE FREE OF CHARGE. AS IT STANDS TODAY, BRAMIN BMW IN MIAMI QUOTED ME $5000 PLUS TAX TO REPLACE TRANSFER CASE.
EGR VALVE IS FAULTY CAUSING EMISSIONS ISSUES AND CAN LEAD TO OVERHEATING. RECALLS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED ON 2009 - 2011 MODELS AND 2013 MODELS AND NEWER BUT NOT ON THE 2012 WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH 250 MILES AWAY FROM HOME THE DRIVE SHAFT ON MY BMW X5 BROKE. I THINK THE RECALL NUMBER IS 17V-138. I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN THE LEFT LANE. THE CAR WAS BUCKING AROUND, SMOKING AND WAS VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. BEFORE THIS THE CAR WAS DRIVING PERFECTLY. IT HAPPENED IN AN INSTANT. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INJURING MYSELF OR MY PASSENGERS. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHO SAID IT WAS CATASTROPHIC. I LOOKED UP ON YOUR WEBSITE AND SAW THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS A RECALL. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THIS BY BMW. I HAD MY HOME GARAGE GO GET IT. THEY SENT IT TO A BMW DEALER WHO HAD IT OVER 2 MONTHS. THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE. IT WAS RETURNED TO MY GARAGE. I DROVE IT ABOUT 10 MILES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST THE INABILITY TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ON THE THRUWAY SO THIS WAS VERY SCARY. BMW IS SAYING THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO W THE DRIVE SHAFT BREAKING AND KILLING THE ENGINE AS PARTS WERE FLYING AROUND INSIDE. 5 DAYS BEFORE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENT I HAD THE CAR CHECKED OVER BY MY GARAGE AS I WAS GOING ON A TRIP. I WAS TOLD MY CAR SHOULD HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER CHANGED NEXT TIME IN BUT IT WASN'T URGENT. I AM NOW LOOKING AT A $5000 REPAIR. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS FROM THE CATASTROPHE. BMW SHOULD PAY FOR THIS REPAIR, REIMBURSE ME FOR ALL THE TOWING CHARGES AND REIMBURSE MY GARAGE FOR LETTING ME HAVE A LOANER FOR OVER 2 MONTHS. PLEASE HELP. I HAVE PICTURES AND WILL TRY TO UPLOAD THEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE BATTERY SENSOR INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE MISFIRED. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE IGNITION COIL. LATER, WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE OIL AND ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE OIL LEVELS WERE VERY LOW AND OIL HAD TO BE CONTINUOUSLY ADDED TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE BATTERY FAILURES AND THE MESSAGE ON AND BATTERY HIGH DRAINAGE COMFORT ACCESS FEATURE MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BMW OF BRIDGEWATER (655 US-202, BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ 08807) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OVERHEAD ROOF MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
MY CAR HAS PCV HEATER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE COMING ON AND OFF. BMW IS FORCED BY NHTSA TO DO RECALL ON BMW CAR FIRE BUT ONLY COVER UP TO PRODUCTION MODEL THRU DECEMBER 2011. MY CAR HAS JUNE 2012 PRODUCTION, THE PCV HEATER VALVE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FROM LAST YEAR, I HAD REPLACED HVAC HEATER VALVE (WRONG DIAGNOSE FOR PART SPECIFIC FROM MY MECHANIC) BUT NOW I FIND OUT THERE IS A RECALL FOR IT, BUT NOT COVERING MY YEAR. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF NHTSA CAN MAKE BMW EXTEND THE RECALL YEAR COVERAGE? THANK YOU.
BMW X5 M 2012 E70 ENGINE FAILURE (S63). MILAGE ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF FAILURE WAS 49,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AT ON A BUSY ROADWAY & COULD HAVE LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR DEATH. BMW OF NORTH AMERICA REFUSED TO HELP IN ANY WAY. ENGINE REPAIR FROM THE BMW DEALERSHIP WAS QUOTED AT $38,000.
I HAD THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT RECALL SERVICE (RECALL NOTICE # 18V-336) COMPLETED BY THE LOCAL BMW DEALER ON MARCH 30, 2019. WHILE DRIVING ON JULY 27, I HEARD A SOFT "CLUNK", THEN THE A/C & POWER STEERING QUICKLY FAILED AND I RECEIVED THE "CHARGING MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE. I PROCEEDED TO MAKE MY WAY OUT OF TRAFFIC TO A STRIP CENTER AHEAD OF ME, AND RECEIVED A "LOW COOLANT" MESSAGE AT THAT TIME. I STOPPED THE CAR, AND OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT 4 HOURS (WHILE WAITING FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE) THE MAJORITY OF THE COOLANT, MIXED WITH WHAT I BELIEVED TO BE OIL, DRAINED OUT ALL OVER THE PARKING LOT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT BMW MECHANIC, AND JULY 30, 2019, HE INFORMED ME THAT THE BOLT THAT HAD BEEN REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL HAD SNAPPED OFF COMPLETELY. AS HE EXPLAINED TO ME, THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS SHREDDED AS A RESULT, AND THE COOLANT HOSES WERE RIPPED LOOSE AND SUCKED INTO THE VEHICLE'S HARMONIC BALANCER. HE ALSO STATED IT APPEARS THE SERPENTINE BELT WRAPPED ITSELF AROUND ONE OF THE TURBO OIL FEED LINES WHEN IT BROKE AND RIPPED IT IN HALF. HIS IMMEDIATE RECOMMENDATION WAS TO TOW IT TO THE DEALER THAT PERFORMED THE RECALL SERVICE, WHERE IT NOW SITS AS OF THIS MORNING, JULY 31, 2019.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE 2/27/19 BY 4/10/19, TWICE THE ENGINE CAUSED THE TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN AND TURN OFF AND FORCED ITSELF IN PARK. THIS HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE IN TRAFFIC ON A BUSY STREET. THE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING SO I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC AND THE MECHANIC FOUND METAL FLAKES IN THE OIL THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN.
HAD TO REPLACE WATER PUMP AT 58,000 MILES. CAR IS SPEWING EXHAUST, AND ACCELERATION AND STEERING ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, LIKELY DUE TO UJOINT AND/OR WORN CONTROL ARM, WHICH I NOTICED WERE RECALLED FOR OTHER MODELS, BUT LISTED AS A RECALL FOR MY CAR/VIN. NEED TO RESEAL CRANKCASE JOINTING SURFACES. CAR HAS 8 RECALLS LISTED ON KBB, BUT BMW ONLY HAS RECORD OF 5 RECALLS. I DO NOT HAVE RECORDS OF REPAIRS THAT WERE DONE ON CAR BEFORE PURCHASE IN NOV. OF 2014. CAR CURRENTLY HAS 69,000 MILES AND IS DRIVING HORRIBLY

ELCECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION! CONTINUED DRIVING IS NOT POSSIBLE. HAVE THE SYSTEM CHECKED BY THE NEAREST BMW DEALER
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 35-40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO OVERHEAT AND THE OVERHEATED WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO BMW OF ONTARIO (LOCATED AT 1301 AUTO CENTER DR, ONTARIO, CA 91761, (909) 402-3052) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND LEAKING ALL OVER THE CIRCUIT BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING NOISE UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND AN UNKNOWN FLUID EMERGED FROM THE TRANSMISSION AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE DRIVE AXLE FRACTURED AND DAMAGED THE TRANSFER CASE, WHICH NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF MANHATTAN (555 W 57TH ST, NEW YORK, NY 10019), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED UNLESS IT WAS PAID FOR BY THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V138000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE AND EGR SYSTEM INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BMW OF KANSAS CITY (816-895-6228, LOCATED AT 1200 W 104TH ST, KANSAS CITY, MO 64114) WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
I HAVE 2012 BMW X5 35D, TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON , BMW DEALER SAID THE EGR COOLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COST $1800 = TOO FIX. BMW DID A RECALL ON THE 2013 TO 2017 MODELS. MY POINT IS WHY WASN'T THE ALL 35D'S INCLUDED? ALL HAVE THE SAME ERG COOLER! BMW AND NHTSA SHOULD REVISE THIS RECALL. DID IT FOR NOS SENSORS. DO THE RIGHT THING, JUST MAKES SENSE.
DRIVE SHAFT MALFUNCTION. WAS DRIVING THIS MORNING AND MADE A NORMAL LEFT TURN AND I HEARD SOMETHING POP AND AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE SOMETHING FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL WELL WAS BANGING. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AND THEY DISCOVERED THERE WAS AN ACTUAL RECALL ON THIS SAME PART. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY MAIL NOTIFICATION ABOUT THIS PART AND I AM CONSTANTLY RECEIVING MAIL ABOUT AN AIRBAG RECALL THAT BMW HAS SAID THEY HAVE ALREADY REPAIRED. BMW DID SOME REPAIRS ON MY VEHICLE (AND HELD IT FOR WEEK) LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND NEVER MENTIONED REPAIRING THE RECALLED PARTS. THIS IS HORRIBLE! THE BMW DEALERSHIP WAS BMW OF ANNAPOLIS, IN MARYLAND. IF PHOTOS ARE NEEDED MY REPAIR SHOP CAN PROVIDE THEM.
ON 2017 OCT 8TH, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR HAD A RED MESSAGE SAYING THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATED AND I NEED TO TURN OFF THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE TO COOL DOWN FOR AROUND 30 MIN. THERE WERE CARS PASSING BY IN 80 MILES RIGHT BY US. IT WAS TERRIFYING. FELT LIKE A CAR COULD CRASH INTO US ANY MOMENT. I HAD TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND STOP AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE EVERY 5 MIN TO COME BACK HOME. 20 MIN DRIVE ALMOST TOOK ME 2 HOURS. I HAD MY KIDS IN THE CAR WITH NO AC. IT WAS ONLY A MONTH AFTER I PUT THE CAR IN SERVICE AND PAID $3086 FOR MAINTENANCE. I TOOK IT INTO BMW SERVICE AND PAID $2041 TO GET THE WATER PUMP FIXED. BMW SERVICE SAID THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE CAR BREAKES DOWN AND HAVE THE MESSAGE ON. WHICH MEANS ALL POTENTIAL BMW COULD HAVE A POSSIBILITY OF BREAKING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE REASON I'M FILING THIS IS THAT JUST LAST WEEK I PUT THE CAR INTO SERVICE AND IN THE COURSE OF REASEARCHING I CAME ACROSS THE FACT THAT BMW X5 WATER PUMP WAS RECALLED IN 2018. I CONTACTED BMW AND THEY SAY MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT AFFECTED. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE AS MAJORITY OF THE BMW AND MINI WATER PUMPS WERE RECALLED, THEY HAVE A FUNDAMENTAL ISSUE WITH THE WATER PUMPS. IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE WHEN MY WATER PUMP ACTUALLY BROKE AT 37000 MILEAGE IT'S NOT RELATED A DEFECT AT ALL. ALSO AS ESPECIALLY THEY CANNOT PREVENT THIS ISSUE MY CASE CLEARLY SHOWS HOW DANGEROUS IT IS TO HAVE A WATER PUMP FAILURE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. PLS REVIEW MY CASE AND ISSUE A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MOMENTUM BMW (10002 SOUTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77074) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
ON 2018 THE ENGINE'S IDLER PULLEY BOLT FAIL. THE VEHICLE LOSE THE POWER AND DON'T RUN. I HAVE TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH BMW AGENCY ON TUCSON ARIZONA, BUT THEY NEVER CAN HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. THEY ALWAYS SAY THE SAME 'WE CAN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I'M VERY FUSTRATED BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE. FINALLY I VISITED ANOTHER MECHANIC TO FIX MY VEHICLE. I ALREADY SPEND MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND YOU COMPANY JUST GIVE ME EXCUSES. I'M VERY UPSET WITH THE SERVICE, VERY BAD SERVICE. SOMETIMES THE PERSONE BY PHONE TELL ME THAT HE WOULD SEE HOW HE CAN HELP ME, AND HE GOING TO CALL ME BACK AND NEVER HAPPENED. THE LAST TIME ONE PERSON OF CUSTOMER SERVICE HER NAME AMALIA PHONE NUMBER +16614322897 TRIED TO HELP ME, BUT INSTEAD HE TOLD ME THAT I OWE YOU 150 DLLS. I'M JUST TRY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN GOOD CONDITIONS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. AND SEE IF YOU GOING TO HELP ME TO GET SOME MONEY BACK THAT I ALREADY SPEND OF MY POCKET. THANK YOU !!
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT 35 MILES PER HOUR SUDDENLY THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING WHEEL LOCKED SO IT WAS HARD TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR BUT WITH NO RESULTS. A POLICEMAN HAD TO STAY BEHIND ME ALL THE TIME FOR OVER AN HOUR UNTIL A TOWING TRUCK CAME TO TOW THE CAR. BMW DIAGNOSTE THE CAR BEFORE WITH A FUEL RAIL REGULATOR. SO I WENT AND REPLACED THAT COMPONENT STILL THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO START!?. SO I TOWED IT TO BMW AFTER 4 DAYS OF DIAGNOSTICS THAT THEY SAID THE DIAGNOSTICS ITSELF IS $1900! THEY CAME TO A CONCLUSION THAT THE FUEL HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FAILED AND CONTAMINATED THE FUEL SYSTEM AND BROKE THE INJECTORS AND MESSED UP THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM. THEIR ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE IS OVER $11000! AND TO JUST REPLACE THE FAILED AND CLEAN UP THE FUEL SYSTEM IT WILL COST ME OVER $4000. THE CAR IS ONLY $75000 HOW WOULD A MAJOR FAILURE HAPPEN TO THAT COMPONENT. THERE WAS NO MISFUELING, THEY CHECKED THE DIESEL AND THEY SAID IT IS NOT GAS AND IT DOES NOT HAVE WATER EITHER. I HAVE READ WHERE OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING FROM THE SAME ISSUE FUEL HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FAILURE. IF I WERE ON A HIGHWAY AND SINCE THE CAR DID NOT GIVE ANY NOTICE OR MESSAGE I THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT SINCE THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING OR SIGN.

EMISSION LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. BMW DIAGNOSED IT WAS A FAULTY DMTL PUMP (LEAK DIAGNOSIS PUMP). DEALER (BMW) DECLINED COVER UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY.
I FIND IT DOWN RIGHT UNCONSCIENABLE THAT BMW IS ALLOWED TO HAVE AN OPEN RECALL THAT MAY CUSE A CRASH UNRESOLVED MONTHS AFTER NOTIFICATION. ON THURSDAY 2/22/19 WHILE ON MY WAY TO AN EVENT WHEN THE OCCURENCE MATERIALIZED. I LOST STEERING AND ENGINE FUNCTION ON A 2 PLUS MILE WINDING COMMERCIAL DRIVEWAY. THROUGH THE GRACE OF GOD I REMAINED CALM AND FORCIBLY AND MIRACULOUSLY VEER AWAY FROM A DITCH. HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY WHICH WAS A REAL POSSIBILITY THAT DAY, A SUDDEN SLOWING DOWN WOULD HAVE BEEN LIFE ENDING. I AM TAKING THE TIME TO MAKE THIS COMPLAINT TO HOPEFULLY PREVENT SOMEONE ELSE THAT MAY NOT HAVE THE SAME OUTCOME AS I DID. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY MAKE IT TO THE PARKING LOT WHILE HAVING ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE SUMMONED BY MY SON, WHO I HAD SURRENDIPITOUSLY DIAED BEFORE I HEARD THE "POP" UNDER THE CAR, WHICH I INITIALLY THOUGHT WAS FROM RUNNING OVER A ROCK. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP, ITHE FOLLOWING DAY RECEIVED A VOICEMAIL RESPONSE TO MY INQUIRY THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE JULY 2017 PULEY RECALL THAT DOES IMPACT STEERING AND MAY LEAD TO A CRASH. SAD. CURRENT REMEDY IS AN OFFER FOR A RENTAL WITH REXPENSES COVERED WITH NO ETA OF THE RECALLED PART REPLACEMENT. I MUST SAY I AM EXTREMELY DISTRUSTFUL AT THIS TIME OF AN ADEQUATE RESOLUTION, TO THE POINT OF A TRADE IN REQUEST. I HAVE ALSO ASKED FOR THE MANAGER TO GET BACK TO ME. THANKS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER SYSTEM SHUT DOWN AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTOMASTER BMW (3328 SHELBURNE RD, SHELBURNE, VT 05482, (802) 985-8411) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE KNOCK SENSORS, CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AND COMPUTER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS DRIVING 20 MPH, SHE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V336000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT SHEARED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 163,000.
"CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. I OPENED VEHICLE SETTINGS FROM THE MENU TO DETERMINE WHAT THE LIGHT WAS FOR. ALL SYSTEMS INDICATED OK. NEAREST SERVICEMAN CHECKED FOR CODES: CODE 4873, EGR SYSTEM. ONLINE, EGR RECALLS IN US AND EUROPE, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE DOES NOT SHOW UP AS PART OF ANY OF THEM. CALLED BMW AND THEY SAY I AM ON MY OWN. I AM CONCERNED THAT I MAY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE THAT INVOLVES THE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION MODULE WITH AN INTEGRATED COOLER. PER THIS LINK: HTTPS://WWW.AUTOMOTIVE-FLEET.COM/318701/BMW-RECALLS-MODELS-FOR-EGR-DEFECT, I WOULD LIKE SOME RESEARCH DONE TO DETERMINE THE RISK I FACE. I FEEL LIKE THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE OF OTHER MODELS HAVING THIS ISSUE, THAT THERE MAY BE MORE BMWS AT RISK THAT HAVE NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED. ON AUGUST 7, 2018, I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 95 IN MARYLAND (NORTH OF BALTIMORE) IN ROUTE TO NEW YORK STATE. DURING THE HIGHWAY DRIVE, MY BMW DRASTICALLY REDUCED SPEED TO 10 MILES PER HOUR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I HAD TO MOVE MY CAR TO A SAFE PLACE TO AVOID BEING HIT BY THE OTHER VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY. I COULD NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR. AND, I WAS WORRIED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND WAS AT RISK DUE TO THE BMW CAR ISSUE. I CALLED AAA AND MY CAR WAS TOWED TO PASSPORT BMW IN SUITLAND, MARYLAND FOR REPAIR. ON AUGUST 8TH, PASSPORT EVALUATED MY CAR AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. I WAS INFORMED BY PASSPORT BMW THAT MY CAR ENGINE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUEL IGNITION SYSTEM WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED. I APPROVED THIS OVER $570 REPAIR TO MY CAR. HOWEVER, WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. AGAIN, I WAS CONCERNED SINCE MY CAR WAS REPAIRED BY BMW YET THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN FIXED SINCE THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I CONTACTED THE SERVICE ADVISOR TO INFORM HIM OF THE PROBLEM. HE APOLOGIZED AND REQUESTED THAT I BRING THE CAR BACK IN TO PASSPORT BMW ON THE NEXT DAY. THE NEXT DAY, I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO PASSPORT BMW, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AN ESTIMATED $3388 REPAIR, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR BMW SERVICE MAINTENANCE AND RECALL REPAIRS SEVERAL TIME. MY CAR WAS IN FOR MAINTENANCE SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS NOT ACCURATELY DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE REPAIR DIAGNOSED ON AUGUST 8TH FIXED THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED MY CAR TO STOP RUNNING ON THE HIGHWAY ON AUGUST 7TH. I PAID FOR THAT REPAIR IN AUGUST AND IT DID NOT FIX THE CHECK ENGINE PROBLEM AND WANT TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS EXPENSE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE NUMEROUS REPAIRS TO MY BMW DESPITE THE FACT THAT MY CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED BY THE PASSPORT BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND REDUCE SPEED WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT FACILITY. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
EGR COOLER FAILURE. EGR COOLER DEVELOPED, BOTH AN EXHAUST GAS LEAK AND CONTROL SPRING FAILURE. FAILURE WAS SEEN IN ENGINE CONTROL LIGHT AND LATER DIAGNOSED IN SECOND TRIP TO BMW DEALER. EXHAUST GAS LEAK IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO GREASE AIR SYSTEM IS PRIMARY ISSUE.

LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND LOSS OF BATTERY CHARGE FROM THE ALTERNATOR ALSO THE BELT RUNS THE WATER PUMP SO THE ENGINE STARTED TO OVER HEAT BEFORE I COULD GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD.
BMW HAS OPENED A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE AS OF MAY, 23 OF 2018 AND THE PARTS AREN'T AVAILABLE EVEN NOW. I HAVE CALLED THEM NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO SUCCESS AT ALL. NOBODY NOWS WHEN THESE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. I'M A RENT A CAR COMPANY OWNER AND THIS VEHICLE STAYS IN MY GARAGE AND COLLECTS DUST WITH NO REVENUE WHAT SO EVER. PLEASE HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.

THIS WEEKEND I WAS DRIVING MY BMW ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND HEAR A LOUD POP. WHEN I LOOKED UP MY SUNROOF EXPLODED AND SCATTERED INTO SMALL PIECES. I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND ALL THE SCHERERVILLE DEALER TOLD ME IS TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE. THEY DIDN'T ACCOMMODATE ME AT ALL. NOTHING HIT MY CAR AND THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENED TO A RELATIVE IN HER BMW CAR LAST YEAR. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION AND I WAS STUCK ALL WEEKEND OUT OF TOWN WITH A HOLE IN MY CAR. THE TEMPERED GLASS IS DEFECTIVE AND BMW NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE.

WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON FREEWAY CAR REFUSED TO ACCELERATE FASTER THAN 60 MPH, WARNING THAT ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO DRIVE MODERATELY WAS DISPLAYED. LOUD BLOWING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN 10 SECOND INTERVALS. WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT NEED TO BE REPLACED, BUT DEALER CLAIMS OUR VEHICLE ISN'T COVERED UNDER ANY OF THE 3 RECENTLY EXPANDED RECALLS AFFECTING OTHER 2012 X5 MODELS. ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATES THAT WATER PUMP FAILURES ARE CHRONIC WITH THIS MODEL AND "SOME" BMW REPAIR CENTERS ARE COVERING THE REPAIR AT 85% AS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE PART, BECAUSE OF THE INHERENT RISK OF FIRE.
MY BATTERY WAS WEAK AND THE TIME CAME TO CHANGE IT. I CHANGED THE BATTERY, THE CAR STARTS BEAUTIFULLY. HOWEVER I HAVE A LIGHT SYSTEM AND RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. MY INTERNAL LIGHTS DO NOT WORK, MY INDICATOR LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY FRM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE X5 SERIES. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT AND I ONLY DRIVE IT ON THE WEEKENDS. THIS IS THE SECOND MAJOR MALFUNCTION THIS YEAR. THE WATER PUMP NEEDED REPLACEMENT IN FEBRUARY. I PURCHASED THIS CERTIFIED POS IN 2016 FROM THE MAMARONECK DEALERSHIP WITH 26000 ON THE VEHICLE. OH I FORGOT TO MENTION LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CASE THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK IN THE ENGINE. I CAN'T WAIT TO FINISH PAYING FOR THIS CAR SO I CAN GO BACK TO THE MORE RELIABLE MERCEDES BENZ THAT I WAS ACCUSTOMED TO.
ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT RELEASE. UNABLE TO DISENGAGE PARKING BREAK EVEN MANUALLY. CAR IS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY THAT HAS A STEEP HILL AND HEAVY CITY TRAFFIC AT END OF DRIVEWAY.

I WAS DRIVING MY BMW X5 AND OUT OF NOWHERE AN "ENGINE MALFUNCTION WARNING LIGHT" CAME UP ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENGINE OVERHEATING, I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CALLED A TOW-TRUCK WHO TOOK MY X5 TO THE NEARS BMW DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED IT WAS THE IVM AND THE CHARGE AIR PIPE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AFTER SPENDING $1,500 ON THE 2 ITEMS, I DROVE OUT OF THE DEALER AND LESS THAN A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, THE SAME "ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND VEHICLE OVERHEATING LIGHT" CAME BACK UP. CALLED THE DEALER AND ANOTHER TOW-TRUCK PICK UP MY X5, THEN I REQUESTED TO SPEAK WITH THE SHOP MANAGER WHO INFORMED ME THE PROBLEM WITH THE X5 WAS NEVER PERTAINING TO THE IVM OR CHARGE AIR PIPE, AS THEY MISS OVERLOOKED THE DIAGNOSIS WHICH STATED THE DME WAS NOT WORKING. THEY CHANGE THE DME AND ANOTHER $2,000 WAS CHARGED, AFTER IT WAS REPAIR AND I DROVE AWAY, THE SAME ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT AND VEHICLE OVERHEATING LIGHT CAME UP, CALLED THE DEAELR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT AFTER CHANGING THE DME, THE NEW DIAGNOSIS STATED THE WATTER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS WAS THE PART THAT WAS CREATING THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION AND OVERHEATED VEHICLE WARNING TO COME UP. I ENDED UP CHANGING THE WATER PUMP AND OTHER VEHICLE PARTS, THAT DID NOT NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AND NOW A RECALL FOR THE WATER PUMP CAME OUT. ON THE MEANTIME, I SPENT ALMOST $4,000.00 ON REPAIRS WHEN EVERYTHING COULD HAVE BEEN DONE IF THEY WOULD HAVE CONDUCTED THE WATER PUMP RECALL. WHO CAN REIMBURSE ME THE AMOUNT OF MONEY PAID? I SENT THE ORIGINAL DME TO SEE IF IT WAS DAMAGE, AND THEY CAME BACK STATING IT WAS NOT DAMAGE AT ALL, THEREFORE THE PROBLEM WAS THE WATER PUMP AND NOT THE DME, OR IVM OR CHARGE AIR PIPE. PLEASE HELP!!!
FAULTY WATER PUMP-CAN'T COOL DOWN CAR INOPERABLE MANY OTHER X5 ALREADY HAVE THIS RECALL BUT NOT MINE? GOING TO COST ME 1100 UNDER WARRANTY?!?
PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION. I PARKED THE CAR OUTSIDE A STORE AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE, ON MY RETURN THE PARKING BRAKE COULD NOT BE DISENGAGED AND THE "PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION" SIGN SHOWED UP. ALL 4 TIRES GOT LOCKED UP AND I HAD TO GET THE SUV TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE FIX WAS TO REPLACE THE PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR WHICH COSTED ME ABOUT $2000. IT WAS VERY STRESSFUL WHEN THE SUV GOT STUCK AS I HAD MY KID AND FAMILY WITH ME. SHOP HAD TO REPLACE THE PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM SHOW UP SO FREQUENTLY RECENTLY. THE PART SUPPLIER WHO SENT THE NEW PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR MENTIONED THAT THEY USED TO SHIP UPTO 5 PIECES PER MONTH BUT NOW THEY ARE SHIPPING HUNDREDS PER MONTH. SO IT SEEMS THAT ITS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM, AND I WANT TO BRING THIS TO NHTSA'S ATTENTION SUCH THAT IT CAN BE INVESTIGATED AND CAN HELP OTHER DRIVERS WHO MAY FACE THIS PROBLEM IN FUTURE.
ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT - CAR SUDDENLY LOSES SIGNIFICANT POWER. THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM DESPITE WE HAVE SPENT OVER $10.000.00 AND FREQUENT SERVICING OF THE CAR. DIESEL ENGINE, SCR PASSIVE TANK/SENSOR NEEDS REPLACE. BMW DEALER SAID ITS NOT COVERED IN THE WARRANTY (EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 10Y/120K MILES, BUT SCR ACTIVE TANK/SENSOR IS COVERED. WHAT? IDLER PULLEY BOLT RECALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE IDLER PULLEY BOLT SNAPPED WITH A LOUD NOISE. "ELECTRICAL FAILURE AND BATTERY NOT CHARGING" NOTICE CAME UP. SIMULTANEOUSLY POWER STEERING WAS LOST MAKING VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. FEW MOMENTS LATER CAUTION CAME UP TO "DRIVE MODERATELY ENGINE HOT". SOME MILES DOWN THE ROAD NOTICE CAME UP "ENGINE TOO HOT DRIVE MODERATELY". IT WAS NIGHT TIME ON A LONG WEEKEND AND MY DESTINATION WAS THIRTY MILES AWAY SO I PIED AT THE GAS STATION AND GOT THE CAR TOWED HOME. PROBLEM WAS NOTIFIED BY THE GARAGE MECHANIC. I DID CALL BMW COMPANY WHO REFUSED THAT THERE WAS ANY RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAD PUT MY FAMILY AND ME AT A GREAT DANGER BECAUSE THE CAR NEEDED MIGHTY STRENGTH TO STEER AND THE TIGHT TURNS WERE IMPOSSIBLE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BMW SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME THE SENSORS IN THE PASSIVE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK FAILED AND ENTIRE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE TANK, BUT NOT PASSIVE. THINK ITS RIDICULOUS THAT ONLY ONE TANK IS COVERED WHILE THE PASSIVE IS NOT. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE ON BMW'S DIESEL.
2012 BMW X5. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE MALFUNCTION. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. *JS
THIS PAST WINTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IN MY 2012 BMW X5 DIESEL (X35D) CAME ON. CHECKING THE CODE (4BCC) REVEALED THAT FILL SENSOR FOR THE PASSIVE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) TANK IS MALFUNCTIONING. I HAD LETTERS FROM BMW STATING THAT BMW HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE DEF TANK AND NOS SENSORS TO 10 YEARS AND 120K MILES BUT NOT ON THE PASSIVE DEF TANK. CHECKING VARIOUS BMW FORUMS I FOUND THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE. MANY PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THIS AND SO MUCH SO THAT THERE IS A CANADIAN COMPANY (XEMODEX) THAT IS MAKING BETTER VERSION OF THESE PARTS AND PROVIDING MUCH LONGER REPAIR WARRANTY THAN BMW PROVIDES. ONE OF THE MEMBERS IN THE COMMUNITY ACTUALLY DID A THOROUGH ANALYSIS WITH SCOPE (HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=XFAL06PD_PG) AND IT SHOWED THAT THE FILL SENSORS USED IN THE ACTIVE TANK IS A THREE LEVELS READER AND IN THE PASSIVE TANK IS A TWO LEVELS READER AND THE ONES THAT GO BAD IS USUALLY THE HIGHEST LEVEL FILL MARKER WHICH BECOMES DRY EARLY ON IN THE USAGE CYCLE. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A SYSTEMATIC ISSUE HERE WHERE THE DEF HEATER AND LEVEL SENSOR ARE ALL HOUSED TOGETHER AND DURING WINTER TIME WHEN THE DEF HEATER COMES ON IT CAUSES THE UNSUBMERGED PART OF THE FILL SENSOR TO GO BAD. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THAT CURRENTLY MY PASSIVE DEF TANK IS FILLED WITH DEF BUT BECAUSE OF THE FILL SENSOR MALFUNCTION IT IS NOT ALLOWING FLOW OF DEF FROM PASSIVE TANK TO ACTIVE TANK LIMITING MY RANGE OF TRAVEL BEFORE THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO START DUE TO ACTIVE TANK BEING EMPTY. AND THIRDLY, NOT SURE WHY A PASSIVE TANK WAS INTRODUCED WHEN MAKING THE ACTIVE ONE SLIGHTLY BIGGER WOULD ACCOMPLISH THE SAME THING AND AVOID USE OF TWICE AS MANY OF THESE FAULTY PARTS AND DESIGN. BOTH THE ACTIVE TANK AND THE PASSIVE TANK USE THE SAME FILL SENSOR AND HEATER COMPONENTS BUT THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED ONLY ON THE ACTIVE THANK AND NOT ON THE PASSIVE TANK.

THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PASSIVE TANK IN MY BMW X5 HAS FAILED, WHICH FROM WHAT I'VE READ IN MANY FORUMS IS AN UNACCEPTABLY COMMON OCCURRENCE. WHILE TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THREE OTHER RECALLS ADDRESSED I ASKED ABOUT THE TANK BEING COVERED IN THE EXTENDED EMMISSIONS WARRANTY ON THE CAR. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MAIN DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK IS COVERED (WHICH THEY REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD FAILED TOO), BUT THE RESERVE OR PASSIVE TANK WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. NOW THERE IS A COUNTDOWN ON THE DASH THAT IF I DRIVE OVER 900 MILES WITHOUT FIXING IT THE CAR WILL KNOW LONGER START. I HAVE HAD MY DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID FILLED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THE MESSAGE RETURNS IMMEDIATELY. TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TANK IS $2,500. I'M MAKING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE AS I SAID THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS PART AND IF BMW REALIZES THERE IS A DEFECT ON THE MAIN TANK, WHY WOULDN'T THEY ALSO REPLACE THE PASSIVE TANK UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY?
I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST 9 MONTHS AND CONTINUE TO BE TOLD I WILL BE CONTACTED ONCE THE PARTS (AIRBAGS) ARE AVAILABLE. THE AIRBAGS HEVE STILL NOT BEEN REPLACED ALONG WITH TWO OTHE RECALLS THAT ARE ON THE VEHICLE.

I'M WRITING TO YOU REGARDING MY 2012 BMW X5M. ON OCTOBER 8, 2017 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND SUDDENLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CAR LOST POWER AND A VERY LOUD BANGING NOISE START COMING UP FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THE CAR COULD BARELY MOVE. I PULLED OVER AS SOON AS I WAS OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW AUTHORIZE DEALER - BMW OF SILVER SPRING, MD (3211 AUTOMOBILE BLVD, SILVER SPRING, MD 20904). AFTER A FEW CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND THAT THERE WILL BE NO EFFORT MADE TO DETERMINE THE REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE. THE CAR IS A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE AND I HAVE RECORDS FOR ALL THE MAINTENANCE WORK DONE. THAT INCLUDES OIL CHANGES DONE EVERY 5,000- 7,000 MILES. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT I SUSPECT THE ISSUE COULD BE A FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR. THE SYMPTOMS I SHARED WITH THE BMW DEALER WERE ROUGH STARTS, ROUGH IDLE AND FUEL SMELL WERE PRESENT ESPECIALLY THE DAY WE TOWED THE CAR IN. THE DEALER REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY OF THE SHARED INFORMATION AND DENIED MY REQUEST FOR THE FUEL INJECTORS TO BE CHECKED ALTHOUGH THEY ARE UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. AS A RESULT, I WAS GIVEN NO CHOICE BUT PAY THE COST OF THE ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER REFUSED TO GIVE ME THE OLD ENGINE BACK BECAUSE I WANTED IT INSPECTED TO CHECK WHETHER A FAULTY INJECTOR WAS THE REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE.

I HAVE A 2012 BMW X5 WITH ABOUT 70K MILES ON IT. ABOUT 12-18 MONTHS AGO, I STARTED NOTICING ISSUES WITH SHUDDER/SHAKE WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. I MENTIONED IT TO BMW SERVICE BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T SEE ANY ISSUES. ABOUT 4-5 MONTHS BACK WHEN I COMPLAINED AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE. THE ISSUE IS WITH THE TRANSFER CASE. THEY SAID IT'S A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND TOLD ME THE ORIGINAL PARTS+LABOR RUNS AT OVER $7,000 BUT I CAN GET A REFURBISHED PART AT AROUND $3,200. FOR A VEHICLE LIKE BMW, I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO HAVE SUCH MAJOR ISSUES SOON AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND I SEE SO MANY INDIVIDUALS REPORTING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES WITH BMW X5 IN THAT TIME RANGE. I HOPE BMW WILL ACCEPT THE PROBLEM AND ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL FOR IT SO WE, THE CUSTOMERS, DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SUCH A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THE CAR. AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE, I HAVE DECIDED NOT TO BUY ANYMORE BMWS AND HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING THE SAME TO OTHERS.
HESITATION STARTING THE CAR, DIAGNOSIS BY DEALER WAS FUEL PUMP FAILING. MILEAGE WAS 65,000. COST TO REPAIR 1500.00. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MODEL YEARS 2008-2011.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH A POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH WITH MY FAMILY ON A ROAD TRIP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID ENGINE IS OVERHEATTED AND POWER IS REDUCED. WHEN I TRIED TO PRESS DOWN ON THE GAS, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO FASTER. TRAFFIC WAS A BIT HEAVY AND I WAS GOING 70 MPH WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. IT WAS NERVE WRECKING TO SLOW DOWN (BECAUSE THE CAR ISN'T PRODUCING ANY POWER BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS OVERHEATTED) DUE TO PHYSICS AND NEEDING TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC, THEY TOLD ME THE WATER PUMP HAS FAILED. MY CAR ONLY HAS 55K MILES ON IT.

LAST SATURDAY 11/11/2017, WE AS A FAMILY (ME, MY WIFE AND MY 6 YEAR OLD CHILD), STARTED TO GO ON A 3 HOUR DRIVE FROM OUR HOME TO TELIMENA STATE PARK TO WATCH FOR THE FALL FOLIAGE COLORS THROUGH THE BEAUTIFUL TELIMENA NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY IN ARKANSAS. IT IS PART OF A HUGE OUACHITA NATIONAL FOREST. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT WE ARE FIRST TIMERS AND WE DID NOT ANTICIPATE OUR T-MOBILE CELL PHONE SIGNALS WILL QUIT ON US. EVERYTHING WAS GOING GOOD UNTIL A POINT WHERE MY ENGINE ALMOST QUIT ON ME WITH A WARNING MESSAGE "ENGINE IS NOW WORKING AT A REDUCED SPEED AND ADVISED TO SEE NEAREST BMW DEALER", WE WERE ON A SPEED OF ABOUT 60MPH AND THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT WAS EXTREMELY EXTREMELY SCARY AND TERRIFYING. WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC, WE BARELY MANAGED TO DIVERT A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT AND PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND SHUT DOWN THE CAR. WE MANAGED TO SURVIVE THE SUDDEN ENGINE QUITTING ON US ON A SPEEDY ROAD. THIS IS EXTREMELY LIFE THREATENING. WE DID NOT HAVE OUR CELL PHONE SIGNAL AND WE WERE STRANDED FOR SOME HELP FOR ABOUT 4 HOURS. WE DID NOT WANT TO TAKE CHANCES DRIVING THIS CAR AND DO ANOTHER LIFE THREATENING EXPERIENCE. WE MANAGED TO GET SOME HELP AND GET OUT OF THERE. NEXT DAY WITH SOME HELP, I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE CAR SLOWLY BY MYSELF AND A FRIEND FOLLOWING ME. WE MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN BMW PLANO. RECENTLY I HAD A RECALL WORK DONE WITH BMW PLANO ON 10/30-11/1 FOR 3 ITEMS. FRONT AIRBAG, FRONT DRIVESHAFT, MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR. YESTERDAY THEY RETURNED THE CAR MENTIONING THAT THE ISSUE IS POSSIBLY RELATED TO OTHER UNRELATED ITEMS. (1) CHARGE PIPE NEAR THROTTLE BODY IS CRACKED / TORN / LEAKED.. CHARGE PIPE CODES SEEN DURING SMOKE TESTING I BOUGHT THIS CAR ON 30TH DEC 2016 WHEN THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR WAS AROUND 48000 MILES AND IT WAS WORKING FINE UP UNTIL THIS LIFE THREATENING AND TERRIFYING SITUATION NOW AT CURRENT MILEAGE OF 57000 MILES.
2012 BMW X5 XDRIVE50I PURCHASED 10-25-2014 AS CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FROM BMW OF AUSTIN WITH 54,554 MILES AND EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 8-1-17 OR 100,000 MILES. ALL SERVICE WORK AND MAINTENANCE PERTAINING TO ENGINE DONE AT BMW OF AUSTIN ON TIME AS SCHEDULED. NUMEROUS RECALL WORK PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY. NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH ENGINE HESITATION DURING ACCELERATION REPORTED TO DEALER, INVESTIGATED BY DEALER, AND SUPPOSEDLY "FIXED" BY DEALER. PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE HESITATION AT ACCELERATION PERSISTED. PROBLEM REPORTED TWICE TO DEALER THE LAST MONTH OF ELIGIBLE WARRANTY ALONE ALONG WITH STATEMENT THAT ENGINE WAS BURNING THROUGH AN EXCESSIVE ABOUT OF BMW SUPPLIED SYNTHETIC OIL (ON 7/5/17 AND AGAIN ON 7/21/17). ENGINE FINALLY SEIZED ENTIRELY ON 10/25/17 AT 89,000 MILES WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND WAS TOWED TO BMW OF AUSTIN. SERVICE REP STATED THEY COULD NOT GET THE ENGINE STARTED AND REQUESTED APPROVAL TO CRACK OPEN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO INVESTIGATE. THE WORK WAS APPROVED AND HE SAID THERE WAS "UNUSUAL AND SEVERAL SCORING ON THE NUMBER 6 CYLINDER THAT WOULD REQUIRE REPLACING THE ENGINE." THIS TYPE OF CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IS NOT USUAL FOR A WELL MAINTAINED ENGINE. THE NUMEROUS RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE SUSPECT IN THE EARLY ENGINE FAILURE. THE KNOWN DEFECTS IN MATERIAL PARTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BEING THE MOST SUSPECT. TO DATE, BMW USA IS ONLY WILLING TO OFFER $5000 TOWARDS REPAIR OR TRADE IN (NOW ONLY WORTH $2500 DUE TO NON-FUNCTIONING ENGINE). I STRONGLY BELIEVE THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE HANDLED UNDER THE 10 YEAR/120000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY BMW FOR REPAIRS RELATED TO THE AFOREMENTIONED RECALLS. THEY DISAGREE.
AT 75K MILES MY BMW X5 BEGAN SHUTTERING WHILE MAKING SHARP, SLOW TURNS. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE NEW TIRES WE PUT ON. THEN THE STUTTERING HAPPENED WHEN COMING TO A STOP, AS WELL. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS BEEN SERVICED ALL ALONG AND THEY SAID THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. REALLY, AT 75K MILES. WHEN I WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE ITEM I FOUND THAT THE PREVIOUS YEAR MODEL WAS A RECALL. OBVIOUSLY, BMW DID NOT FIX THE ITEM ON THE 2012 THAT I OWN. A FAULTY TRANSFER CASE IN THE X5 CAN CAUSE LOSS OF DRIVE AND THIS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IF THE OCCUPANTS ARE ON A FREEWAY OR IN AN INTERSECTION ETC WHERE THEY ARE STUCK. WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO LOOK AT THIS ISSUE AND HOLD THE MANUFACTURERS ACCOUNTABLE.
TAKATA RECALL NHTSA RECALL 16V071 HAS STATUS THAT REMEDY PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. DESPITE OF THIS, MY LOCAL BMW DEALER (PETER PAN BMW IN SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA) SAYS PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THAT IT STILL WILL TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS DUE TO PARTS BEING SHIPPED FROM EUROPE. I DON'T FIND IT ACCEPTABLE THAT BMW IS DELAYING SUCH REPAIRS AND WOULD EXPECT BMW TO USE EXPEDITED SHIPPING SOLUTIONS TO COMPLETE THIS CRITICAL FIX. *CN

TAKATA RECALL (THIS IS MORE OF A CONCERN AND REQUEST FOR HELP RATHER THAN AN INCIDENT. I WAS DIRECTED TO THIS WEBSITE BY THE RECALL NOTICE. NO OTHER INSTRUCTIONS OTHER THAN THE URL WERE GIVEN) I LIVE ON GALVESTON ISLAND IN TEXAS, SOUTH OF HOUSTON. IT IS ONE OF THE HOTTEST, MOST HUMID PLACES IN THE US. MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WAS RECALLED IN MARCH OF 2017. DESPITE REPEATED REQUESTS TO BMW, THEY STILL WILL NOT REPLACE THE RECALLED AIRBAG. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE IN APRIL 2016, NOT FAR FROM WHERE I LIVE, A 17 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS KILLED BY SHRAPNEL FROM HER AIRBAG IN A CRASH THAT SHE OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE WALKED AWAY FROM.

THE VEHICLE HAD IT'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATE WHEN STARTED COLD, ROUGHLY 83K MILES. DEALER RAN DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID THE FLUID LEVEL SENSOR IN THE SCR PASSIVE TABK HAD FAILED AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. 6 MONTHS PRIOR, THE CEL HAD COME ON, AND WAS RELATED TO THE SCR ACTIVE TANK SENSOR. BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE TANK ONLY TO 10Y/120K MILES. IF BMW IS AWARE OF A DEFECT IN THE ACTIVE TANK, AND THE SAME PARTS ARE PRESENT IN THE PASSIVE, THEY SHOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY OF THE PASSIVE TANK MODULE AS WELL.

ON JULY 31ST 2017, THE BOLT SECURING IDLER PULLEY AND ALTERNATOR SHEARED. BATTERY CHARGE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF POWER STEERING. LOOKING AT MY SERVICE RECORD, I SEE THAT THIS SAME BOLT WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL IN JANUARY 2013 WHEN CAR WAS AT 12332 MILES. THE CAR IS NOW AT 63456. ALSO NOTED ON BMW OWNERS WEB SITE THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS E70 SERIES DESIGN HAVE HAD THE SAME REPEAT PROBLEM. BMW DEALER IN CT PERFORMED THE LATEST REPAIR AND OFFERED NO EXPLANATION, EXCEPT THAT THEIR WORK IS GUARANTEED FOR 2 YEARS. ORIGINAL RECALL PERFORMED BY DEALER IN RALEIGH NC WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW HAS ADVISED ME TO POST THIS REPORT AND CALL BMWNA. I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM, BUT FIRST DISCUSSION WAS NOT GOOD. THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECORD OF THIS AS A CONTINUING PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GIVE ME ANY ASSURANCES THAT IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I NOTE THAT THE PART NUMBER OF THE NEW BOLT JUST INSTALLED IS THE SAME AS THE OLD BOLT INSTALLED IN 2013. WE WERE VERY LUCKY NOT TO BE INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND WITHOUT SOME CLEAR ASSURANCES THAT BMW UNDERSTAND HOW TO FIX THIS CONTINUING PROBLEM I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR. AT THE TIME OF THE BOLT FAILURE WE WERE DRIVING AT ABOUT 20MPH THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE TOWN OF STRATFORD CT AND JUST MANAGED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD INTO A TRAIN STATION PARKING LOT.

SCR CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE AND NOX SENSOR FAILURE IN DIESEL EXHAUST SYSTEM ON A 54,1XX MILE VEHICLE -- MUCH TOO EARLY FOR THESE SYSTEMS TO FAIL . THE SYSTEM ALERTED ME OF A "EXHAUST FLUID INCORRECT" CEL WITH A 200 MIL COUNT DOWN TIMER. THIS COUNT DOWN TIME RENDERS THE VEHICLE IMMOBILE IF YOU DO NOT BRING IT INTO THE BMW DEALER WITHIN THIS MILEAGE. THIS COUNT DOWN TIMER COULD HAVE LEFT ME LITERALLY STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE IF I WERE TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE ON ANY ROAD TRIP OR EXTENDED TRAVEL. I BELIEVE IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL THAT BMW CAN DISABLE YOUR VEHICLE ON AN EMISSION RELATED ISSUE POTENTIALLY LEAVING YOU STRANDED. YES, I WOULD HAVE (AND HAVE) BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR -- IMMOBILIZING THE VEHICLE IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED AND IS VERY UNSAFE AND COULD HAVE CAUSED ME AND MY FAMILY HARM. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD AND A 3 MONTH OLD THAT COULD HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY NOW.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER A YEAR. FOR THE NEW REPLACEMENT AIR BAG. EVERY TIME I CONTACT THE HENDRICK BMW DEALER IN CHARLOTTE, NC FROM WHO I PURCHASED THE CAR, THEY TELL ME THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN AVAILABLE. 2012 BMW X5 WHICH WAS PURCHASED AS CERTIFIED ON DECEMBER 31,2015.. PUT MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY YOUNG SON IN DANGER AND SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE INVESTIGATED AND A "FIX' NEEDS TO BE DEVELOPED BEFORE LIFE THREATENING INJURY OCCURS TO SOMEBODY ELSE. I RECEIVED THIS MESSAGE (SEE ATTACHED) IN MY X5 WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A HIGHWAY I-90 (60 MPH) ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF CHICAGO, IL. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 1 1/2 HOURS AND THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS A COLD 35 DEGREES. IN ADDITION TO GETTING THIS MESSAGE, MY CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO MY ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS AND ABRUPTLY STARTED SLOWING DOWN WITHOUT ANY BRAKES LIGHTS. I HAD TRUCKS BEHIND ME THAT DID NOT KNOW I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. THESE TRUCKS WERE BEHIND ME AND COULD NOT STOP THAT QUICKLY AND OUR SAFETY WAS IN DANGER AS THEY WERE LIKELY TO REAR END MY CAR. ALSO, MY CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN TO 40 MPH WHEN THE ROAD WENT UPHILL. I HAD BEEN IN THE CENTER LANE WHEN I GOT THE WARNING SO I HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE RIGHT LANE WHERE TRAFFIC WAS GOING TO THE POSTED 55-60 MPH SPEED LIMIT. I WAS THEN ABLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY. I WAS WITH MY YOUNG CHILD IN A BROKEN DOWN BMW X5. I FELT LIKE A SITTING DUCK. THE BMW DEALER NOW INFORMED ME THAT THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP HAD STOPPED WORKING AND THE MOTOR GOT TOO HOT AND SHUT ITSELF OFF, ESSENTIALLY SHUTTING OFF MY CAR. MY SON AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. IT IS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE FOR THE MOTOR TO JUST SHUT DOWN IN A LOCATION WHERE I COULD NOT SAFELY EXIT THE FREEWAY. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED APRIL 9, 2016 AND I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CERTIIFED VEHICLE ON DECEMBER 31, 2015 SO I HAD ONLY OWNED IT FOR 3 MONTHS. THE CAR ONLY HAD 24,000 MILES. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT WHEN OTHER VEHICLES FAILED TO RESPOND TO MY SLOWED SPEED FROM A SHUT DOWN MOTOR (WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS).

TAKATA RECALL IT'S BEEN MORE THAN 1 YEAR SINCE RECALL HAPPENED FOR MY VEHICLE, AND AFTER REPEATED CONTACTS WITH THE DEALER, THEY ARE STILL NOT REPLACING MY AIR BAG!
I RECEIVED AN INTIAL LETTER BACK ON 2/5/16 THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAG. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER A YEAR AND ALL I RECEIVE IS LETTERS LETTING ME KNOW THAT THERE IS A RECALL. I THINK THAT THE STATEMENT "EXCESSIVE INTERNAL PRESSURE COULD CAUSE RUPTURE...RESULTING IN METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING THE PASSENGER OR OTHER OCCUPANTS...POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH", IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE FIXED IN A MORE REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME. OVER A YEAR IS TOO LONG AND I BELIEVE THAT BMW NEEDS TO MAKE AN ALTERNATE PLAN IF THIS IS NOT/OR CAN'T BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY. I TAKE/PICK UP MY AND OTHER'S CHILDREN ON A DAILY BASIS AND REQUIRE THE USE OF THE FRONT SEAT. I DON'T FEEL SAFE KNOWING THAT THIS BMW'S SAFETY EQUIPTMENT IS NOT SAFE. IN THE LATEST LETTER I RECEIVED IT STATED THAT IF BMW WAS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE DEFECT IN A REASONABLE PERIOD OF TIME TO NOTIFY THE NHTSA - THAT IS WHAT I AM DOING.

BOUGHT IT USED 58K MILES , ON FIRST DAY THE BATTERY DIED, TOOK IT TO BMW DEALER, LABOR+PARTS+PROGRAMMING $475! ONLY AFTER 4YRS THE BATTERY FAILED ? AFTER 2 MONTHS ENGINE OVERHEATING, TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALER, WATER BUMP +THERMOSTAT +FLUSHING COOLANT AND A FEW MORE FLUSHING ALL TRANS, ETC PLUS ALIMENT, $1800 FOR WATER BUMP AND THERMOSTAT+ THE OTHER THINGS ALL TOGETHER CAME UP TO $2500 AFTER$300 DISCOUNT, WE WENT TO PICKUP THE CAR ASKED FOR DISCOUNT AND GOT THE BILL DOWN TO $1978. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF BMW AND ELECTRIC WATER PUMP THAT FAILS AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ON ALMOST EVERY BMW ONLY AFTER LIKE 30K AND UP? UNLIKE OTHER CARS WATER PUMP WILL FAIL AFTER 150K-200K MILES.
IN 2012 A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS CAR AND THE WORK WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALER. ON 12/16/2016 THE STEERING FAILED WILE THE CAR WAS IN OPERATION. IT WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR ON THE SAME PART AS BEFORE. MY INVESTIGATION SHOWED THERE WERE MORE THAN ONE STEERING FAILURE IN THAT TIME PERIOD CONCERNING THE SAME MODEL, ENGINE AND EVERYTHING BUT A 2011 MODEL. I PAID OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE REPAIRS COMPLETED BECAUSE I NEED TRANSPORTATION, HOWEVER BMW IS CLAIMING THAT ONCE THE WORK IS COMPLETED AND AFTER TIME OF WARRANTY THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND BMW WILL BILL CUSTOMERS FOR THE WORK EVEN IF THEY ARE REPLACING THE EQUIPMENT WITH FAULTY PARTS. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WASN'T DRIVING FAST AND THE WEATHER WAS NICE OR I COULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH NO STEERING.. *TR
VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND MAKES LOUD NOISES WHILE TURNING. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS WAS A TRANSFER CASE FAILURE AND A RESULT OF BAD ENGINEERING IN GENERAL. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE AND ALSO ON OTHER MODEL YEARS OF THE SAME MODEL. THE TRANSFER CASE REPLACEMENT IS ESTIMATED TO COST $6500. OTHERS ONLINE HAVE REPORTED TRANSFER CASES FALLING OFF WHILE DRIVING! THIS ENTAILS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK AND ONE THAT THE MANUFACTURER APPEARS TO BE AWARE OF. BMW NEEDS TO REPAIR THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID FURTHER ENDANGERING CUSTOMERS' LIVES. *TR

THE EGR COOLER WAS DISCOVERED TO BE LEAKING HARMFUL EXHAUST UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THIS HARMFUL EXHAUST COULD EVENTUALLY BE BREATHED IN WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND THE VEHICLE REMAINS PARKED TO RUN THE AIR CONDITIONER. BASED ON THE MILEAGE OF MY VEHICLE WHICH IS AT 75,000 MILES, THE PART IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY. THE ODD PART HERE IS THAT MY VEHICLE RECEIVED A FULL INSPECTION AT 60,000 MILES AND THERE WAS NO SIGN OF ANY EXHAUST LEAK AT THIS TIME. ALL THAT THE VEHICLE IS USED FOR IS TO GET GROCERIES AND BRING THE KIDS BACK AND FORTH TO SCHOOL. RIGHT NOW I AM IN A BAD POSITION WHERE THE COST TO REPLACE THE EGR COOLER IS NEARLY $2,000. IF AN INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED JUST PRIOR TO 70,000 MILES THEN THIS PART WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY BECAUSE I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA.
THE FUEL PUMP SUDDENLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH (LEGAL SPEED LIMIT) WITH NO WARNING AND CAUSED A STALL CONDITION. I NOTICED THEY (BMW) HAVE A NEW RECALL FOR UP TO THE 2011 MODEL YEAR BUT THEY NEED TO INCLUDE THE 2012 AS WELL. *TR

ONE WEEK AGO, COOLING FAN MADE HIGH SPEED NOISE. IT KEPT WENT ON AND OFF. ONE WEEK LATER, "ENGINE HOT" SIGN TURNED ON WHILE I'M DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND TURNED ON 20 MINUTES LATER. AFTER I TURNED ON, ENGINE OIL LEVEL SHOWS UP EMPTY, 0. WE CHANGED ENGINE OIL WHEN 45,000 MILES AND CURRENT IS 50,000 MILES.
VEHICLE MILEAGE 56,341MI. VEHICLE ENGINE WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START AFTER COMING OUT OF BUSINESS WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS. DASH WARNING MESSAGE "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" WAS PRESENT. CODES READ VIA GENERIC OBD2 DEVICE WERE P10E4, P10F5,P10E5,B2AAA. THESE CODES ARE RELATED TO THE VALVETRONIC SYSTEM IN THE ENGINE. CHECKED RELATED FUSES AND NO PROBLEM. HAD TO GET VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVETRONIC SYSTEM ERROR. VEHICLE WAS FIRST REPROGRAMMED AND ISSUE REMAINED. VALVETRONIC SYSTEM WAS REPLACED DUE TO DTCS THAT LED THEM TO BELIEVE ECCENTRIC SHAFT WAS STUCK. TALKING WITH THE TECHNICIAN THE ECCENTRIC SHAFT WAS NOT STUCK AND HE ASSUMED THE ACTUATOR\ MOTOR HAD FAILED. PER BMW INSTRUCTIONS THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WAS REPLACED THOUGH. TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE HAS DONE MANY REPLACEMENTS OF VALVETRONIC SYSTEMS AND THE PARTS WERE ALREADY IN STOCK WHICH RAISED A FLAG TO ME. THE ENGINE WAS REASSEMBLED AND THE ENGINE WOULD STILL NOT START. THERE WERE FAULTS LEFT IN THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT. APPARENTLY THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT WAS DAMAGED BY ACTUATOR\ MOTOR THAT WAS DRAWING HIGH CURRENT.(CONFIRMED BY BMW SERVICE ENGINEER) ENGINE CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED AND ENGINE IS NOW REPORTED TO BE IN OPERATIONAL CONDITION. BMW AND DEALER HAS DISCOUNTED THE SERVICE AND PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE BUT BASED ON INFORMATION FROM THE TECHNICIAN THIS ENTIRE REPAIR COULD POSSIBLY BE A RECALLABLE ITEM AS IT CAN LEAVE THE END USER STRANDED AND WITH A HEALTHY REPAIR BILL WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT TOO FAR OUT OF WARRANTY. REPAIR BILL HAS BEEN UPLOADED.
HAVE EXPERIENCED VIBRATION ON THE STEERING COLUMN, WHILE MAKING SHARP TURNS AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. THE BMW DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A BAD TRANSFER CASE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE WAS $7500.

"TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL" WE WERE ADVISED OF THIS PROBLEM OVER 1 YEAR AGO BY OUR BMW SERVICE ADVISOR AND WE APPLIED FOR A NEW REPLACEMENT AT THAT TIME. WE LIVE IN CLEARWATER FLORIDA AND THE CAR IS PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE SUN ALL THE TIME. THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH TO ME OR MY FAMILY IS UNACCEPTABLE. WE USED OUT 2012 BMW X5 DIESEL FOR A ROUND TRIP OF MN TO FL. OCTOBER OF 2015. WE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE AND ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING WE NEEDED TO BE AWARE OF FOR THE LONG TRIP. UPON RETURN TRIP BACK TO MN WE WERE ALERTED BY THE SYSTEM MONITOR THAT THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) WAS LOW. WE WERE 5 HOURS INTO OUR 18 HOUR TRIP FROM FL TO MN. IT WAS SATURDAY AFTER 1:00 PM AND WE STOPPED TO ADD DEF TO THE SYSTEM. THE FILL PORT ON THE X5 WOULD ONLY ACCEPT 4 OZ OF DEF WITH REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO FILL THE RESERVOIR. WE USED THE INTERNET TO SEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT WITH OUT THE BMW CONTAINER OF DEF THE RESERVOIR WOULD NOT ACCEPT ENOUGH DEF TO FILL THE SYSTEM. WE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE TWO RESERVOIRS. THE BMW MANUAL DID NOT STATE THAT THE BMW BOTTLE WAS NEEDED NOR THAT THERE ARE TWO RESERVOIRS. WE COULD NOT PURCHASE THE BMW BOTTLE AS NO BMW DEALERSHIPS WERE OPEN, NOR WOULD THEY BE THE NEXT DAY. THE BMW SYSTEM ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN AFTER THE 200 MILE LIMIT WAS REACHED. WE HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT IN OUR CURRENT LOCATION AND THEN DRIVE 12 HOURS THE NEXT DAY, SUNDAY, WITH OUT SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AS IF WE DID THE BMW OVERRIDE WOULD SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND WE VERIFIED THAT FACT ON THE WEB. WE MADE IT HOME AND AS SOON AS WE SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN IT WAS DISABLED. WE PURCHASED THE BMW DEF BOTTLE AND FILLED THEY RESERVOIRS. THE SYSTEM DID NOT REST AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT TOOK THEM 3 DAYS TO RESET THE SYSTEM AND THEN DISCOVER THE O2 SENSORS WERE NOW NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE DEF ISSUE. COST OF THE O2 SENSOR REPLACEMENT IS $2000.00. THE SYSTEM WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED.BMW'S OWNER MANUAL IS INCORRECT AND NO ONE WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED THE BMW ENGINEERED DEF BOTTLE TO REFILL THEY SYSTEM. WE CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA WITHOUT ANY RESULTS.
MY VEHICLE HAS AN ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK MECHANISM THAT DUE TO A MALFUNCTION WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO BE UNLOCKED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT LOCKS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN DRIVING AND IS SUPPOSED TO UNLOCK WHEN THE INSIDE HANDLE IS USED TO OPEN THE DOOR; HOWEVER, IT WILL NOT UNLOCK AND THOUGH BMW IS AWARE OF THIS MALFUNCTION (IT IS A COMMONLY KNOWN DEFECT), THEY WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THE DEALER TO REPAIR. I FEEL THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY THE DRIVER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR LOCKS WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING BUT WILL NOT UNLOCK AFTER THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN PARK.
AT 50,000 MILES WATER PUMP MALFUNCTION. COST TO REPAIR A PRODUCT WITH LESS LIFESPAN THAN A SET OF TIRES, $1400. NO RECALL LISTED, DELEAR SAID THAT THIS IS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE WITH THIS MODEL.
ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCED POWER, ERROR MESAGE THIS MORNING. JUST HAD TO HAVE EGR REPLACED 5 DAYS AGO (@52,000 MILES) AT THE TUNE OF $1005.00....NOW MY CAR WILL ONLY GO 35 MPH. CAR STARTED MAKING A "WHISTLING SOUND" ON 11/07 DURING ACCELERATION....THEN TODAY, IT STARTED "RATTLING" THEM ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE CAME ON AND POWER WENT AWAY!
MY CAR MADE GRINDING / WHIRLING NOISE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL MORE THAN HALF WAY. THE NOISE WAS ON AND OFF FOR SOME TIME DURING PARTING LOT SPEED TURNING. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I TOOK THE CAR TO A BMW REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC SAID THE TRANSFER CASE AND SHAFT WERE DAMAGED AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. IT COST AN ASTRONOMICAL $4,716.34 TO REPAIR THE ISSUES. THE MECHANIC SAID THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON AMONG BMW X5 AND X3 AND I WAS VERY UNLUCKY TO HAVE IT AT 69K MILES. I AGREE WITH THE UNLUCKY PART. BMW SHOULD OWN UP THE ISSUE AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
ENGINE BULKHEAD COVERS ARE BROKEN DUE TO EXTREME HEAT. PER TSB SIB-51-34-11 BY BMW, THIS CAN CAUSE CORROSION INSIDE THE ENGINE. BMW SHOULD COVER THIS REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE WARNING MESSAGE ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCED ENGINE POWER DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE ENGINE POWERED DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED OFF THE FREEWAY AND DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE POWER STEERING BELT FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
I WAS HIT BY A CAR TURNING LEFT IN FRONT OF ME. LEFT FRONT SIDE AND DOOR HIT. WHEEL KNOCKED AT ANGLE UNDER CAR. STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG BURNED MY RIGHT HAND WHEN IT DEPLOYED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE SUN ROOF GLASS EXPLODED. THE SUN ROOF WAS COVERED; THEREFORE, THE FRACTURED GLASS DID NOT PENETRATE THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE SUN ROOF WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
I WAS DRIVING 50 MPH HOUR AND ENGINE HALTED. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND QUICKLY LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN ONLY GO 40 MPH AND HAD VERY LITTLE POWER. *TR
DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE AT 70 MPH VEHICLE ABRUPTLY SLOWS DOWN BELOW 45 MPH, IN THE DASH " ENGINE MALFUNCTION, ENGINE OPERATING AT REDUCED OUTPUT. POSSIBLE TO CONTINUE. DRIVE WITH CAUTION. HAVE THE SYSTEM CHECKED BY THE NEAREST BMW CENTER" WARNING COMES ON THE DISPLAY. UNSAFE TO DRIVE CAR ON HIGHWAY BECAUSE AT ANYTIME CAR CAN SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN. *TR
I WISH THIS COMPLAINT TO BE MADE PUBLIC. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD VALVETRONIC MOTOR COMPONENTS REPLACED THREE TIMES, 5/2012, 10/2013 AND 1/2015. IN THE FIRST 34 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP, IT SPENT ABOUT 60+ DAYS IN SERVICE UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS LESS THAN 29500 MILES ON IT. I REQUESTED THAT BMW TAKE THIS CAR BACK AS AN EARLY LEASE RETURN, AND ALLOW ME TO SKIP THE LAST TWO MONTHS OF LEASE PAYMENTS. BMW DENIED MY REQUEST. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 12/23/2014. WHILE DRIVING 65MPH IN THE DARK, POURING DOWN RAIN OF RUSH HOUR MORNING COMMUTE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND SAID "MAY BE OPERATING UNDER REDUCED POWER." THE CAR QUICKLY LOST POWER, AND COULD ONLY DO 25 MPH AS I TRIED TO SAFELY NAVIGATE MYSELF OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AS I RAPIDLY DECELERATED. ON THE SERVICE TICKET I WAS GIVEN AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/20/2015 WHEN THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED, IT SAYS: "FAULTY VVT MOTOR AND ECCENTRIC SHAFT MECHANICAL TOLERANCES. FOLLOWED AND COMPLETED SIB 12 14 10. REPLACED ECCENTRIC SHAFT WITH ECCENTRIC SHAFT MOTOR. CLEARED FAULTS AND COMPLETED. DURING REPAIR CRANK CASE VENT PIPE CAME APART DUE TO BRITTLE MATERIAL. ALSO WHEN REFITTING UPPER RIGHT MICRO FILTER/ENGINE COWL TRIMMING CAME APART DUE TO BRITTLE MATERIAL." UNFORTUNATELY, THIS CAR IS A LEASE, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT BMW WILL SELL THIS CAR TO SOMEONE ELSE. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE REFUSED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE OFF THE DEALER'S LOT, AND HAVE LEFT IT PARKED THERE SO I MAY START THE LEASE RETURN ASAP. I HAVE A MORAL OBLIGATION TO KEEP OTHERS SAFE, AND WILL POST UPDATED SERVICE RECORD INFORMATION TO THE CARFAX REPORT FOR THIS VIN. BMW SHOULD BE FORCED TO ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THERE IS A RECALL CAMPAIGN 11V-521: REPLACE ATHE AUXILIARY COOLANT PUMP FOR TURBOCHARGER FOR THE BMW E70 YET WHEN THE DEALER CHECK MY VIN # THIS RECALL IS NOT LISTED. MY VEHICLE NEED A NEW COOLANT PUMP AND I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT? *JS
CAR WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY, NOT RUNNING OR TURNED ON. HORN AND WIPERS STARTED GOING OFF. WENT OUTSIDE TO VEHICLE, TRIED TO DISABLE. SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT FROM BEHIND THE DASHBOARD (PASSENGER SIDE). COULD SMELL ELECTRICAL SHORT. SMOKE FOLLOWED BY FLAMES, ENTIRE DASH AREA CAUGHT ON FIRE, BY THE TIME FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PUT IT OUT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT AROUND 35 MPH, ENGINE STARTED TO STUTTER, SHAKE VIOLENTLY, THEN COMPLETELY SHUT OFF, LEAVING NO POWER ASSIST TO STEERING OR BRAKES. VEHICLE REMAINED DEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEAVILY TRAVELED TWO LANE ROAD. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO RESTART SEVERAL DOZEN TIMES, VEHICLE FINALLY STAYED ON ENOUGH TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD, THEN SHUT DOWN AGAIN. AGAIN AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO RESTART, VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO TURM THE CORNER ONTO A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHERE IT PROCEEDED TO SHUT DOWN ONCE AGAIN. ENGINE FAILURE MESSAGE APPEARED ON VEHICLE INFORMATION DISPLAY AS WELL AS ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD. WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK, THE VEHICLE SAT FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART. AFTER ABOUT A DOZEN ATTEMPTS, VEHICLE RESTARTED, BUT THIS TIME WITH NO ERROR MESSAGES OR DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS. AFTER SEVERAL ADDITIONAL STALLS, VEHICLE RESTARTED BUT THIS TIME WITH THE VEHICLE INFORMATION DISPLAY INDICATING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND ADDITIONAL WORDING STATING "REDUCED POWER AVAILABLE" (LIMP HOME MODE) AND "SAFE TO DRIVE". BASED ON THE MESSAGE AND THE FACT THE CAR RESTARTED, I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME. ON THE HIGHWAY (LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY) WHILE APPROACHING HIGHWAY SPEEDS (45 MPH) THE ENGINE AGAIN SHOOK VIOLENTLY, STUMBLED, AND SHUT OFF LEAVING NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. UNFORTUNATELY, A TRACTOR TRAILOR WAS BEARING DOWN ON MY POSITION FROM THE REAR AND NEARLY STRUCK MY VEHICLE, DUE TO THE SUDDEN POWER LOSS AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. BEYOND THE FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (PER BMW DEALERSHIP), THE VEHICLE INFORMATION SYSTEM IS FLAWED AS IT DID NOT REMEMBER THE FIRST CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE AND INSTEAD RESET ITSELF. IT ADVISED ALTHOUGH THERE WAS AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION, IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITH REDUCED POWER AVAILABLE. A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE EVENT LIKE THAT SHOULD RESULT IN A WARNING AND ADVISEMENT NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE REAR READING LAMPS IN THE VEHICLE HAVE NO PROTECTIVE COVER OVER THE HALOGEN BULBS AND ARE LOCATED RIGHT NEXT TO THE ON/OFF SWITCH MAKING IT FAR TO EASY FOR CHILDREN IN A MOVING VEHICLE TO ACCIDENTALLY TOUCH AN EXTREMELY HOT BULB. THEIR EITHER NEEDS TO BE A PROTECTIVE COVER OR THE BULBS NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH SOME LIKE AN LED THAT GENERATES FAR LESS HEAT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL CLANK SOUND NEAR THE ENGINE, BUT THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE LATER RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
2012 BMW X5. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES. *SMD THE LAST DEALER, TOLD THE CONSUMER THE STALLING WAS DUE TO BAD GAS.
SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR IT WENT INTO SAFE MODE WHEN I WAS ON A BUSY ROAD WITH A 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT WHICH WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND REDUCED TO ONE LANE WITH NO SHOULDER OR PLACE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. THUS, I WAS IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND ALSO OBSTRUCTING TRAFFIC AND PUTTING OTHER DRIVERS AT RISK AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE GLASS SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED WITH A LOUD BOOMING SOUND. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE SUN ROOF WAS OPENED WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND DIAGNOSED THAT A SMALL ROCK HAD CAUSED THE DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION, AND AS I APPROACHED THE PUMP AND PUT ON BRAKES, I HEARD A CRACK. AFTER I PUMPED MY GAS, I STARTED MY CAR, AND A BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH AN INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A "CHARGING ERROR". I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE OFF, BUT I COULD NOT TURN MY STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. MY HUSBAND LOOKED ON THE HOOD, AND NOTED THAT A BELT WAS HANGING DOWN AND FLUID WAS SPEWED EVERYWHERE. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. MY INVOICE INDICATES THAT THE ALTERNATOR TENSIONER BOLT WAS BROKEN THAT CONNECTED THE ALTERNATOR BELT TO THE ENGINE (?) AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED. THIS IS TROUBLING BECAUSE THIS BOLT WAS A REPLACEMENT BOLT. THAT IS, WHEN I HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED IN DECEMBER 2012, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON AN ALUMINUM BOLT, AND MY INVOICE FROM THAT SERVICE VISIT INDICATES THAT THE "ALTERNATOR PULLEY BOLT" WAS REPLACED. I AM TROUBLED BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT BOLT WAS SUPPOSED TO ADDRESS THE RECALL ISSUE, BUT THE REPLACEMENT BOLT BROKE IN THE EXACT MANNER THAT THE RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT. I AM A BIT TROUBLED THAT A REPLACEMENT BOLT, WHICH WAS REPLACED AS A RESULT OF A RECALL, MALFUNCTIONED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT WASN'T ADDRESSED PROPERLY BY BMW THE FIRST TIME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE FRONT WHEELS WILL AUTOMATICALLY FOLLOW A RUT IN THE ROAD CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE UNEXPECTEDLY TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. MY WIFE HAD RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS IN HER HANDS AND CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF AN ACCIDENT. WHEN WE TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE THE DEALER GAVE US A DIFFERENT MODEL WITHOUT THE AGGRESSIVE SUSPENSION - THE VEHICLE DRIVE BEAUTIFULLY. WHEN WE ARRIVED BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP THE DEALER HAD THIS MODEL ON THE FLOOR AND OFFERED US A "DEAL" TO PURCHASE IT. HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT MAKE US AWARE OF THE PROFOUND DIFFERENCE IN THE HANDLING. NOW AT 7000 MILES THE FRONT TIRES NEED TO BE REPLACED. DEALER SAYS WE MAY HAVE HIT A CURB. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND ANOTHER OWNER WHO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO HIS LETTER HE WAS ON THE WAY HOME AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND IT "TOOK OFF ALL OVER THE ROAD." HE DROVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ADVISE THEM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DANGEROUS. HE FINALLY, WITH APPROXIMATELY 5000 MILES TRADED THE VEHICLE IN. WE ASKED THE DEALER IF THEY WOULD TRADE IT FOR THE MODEL WE TEST DROVE. THEY SAID BECAUSE IT WAS REGISTERED THEY WOULD ONLY GIVE US $45K. WE HAD JUST PAID $62K FOR IT. MY DAUGHTER RECENTLY BORROWED THE CAR, AND DECIDED IT WAS TOO UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH THE STEERING/SUSPENSION ON THE X5 SPORT ACTIVITY. PLEASE LOOK INTO TO IT. WE FEAR THAT WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, WE WILL EVENTUALLY COLLIDE WITH A PASSING VEHICLE DUE THE PROBLEM. MY WIFE SIMPLY REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR CITING IT IS SIMPLY TOO DANGEROUS - SHE IS RIGHT! ON THE WEBSITE "TIRE RACK" THERE IS A DISPROPORTIONATE NUMBER OF X5 OWNERS WHO ARE FUMING ABOUT TIRE WEAR ON THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. MOST SEEM TO ACHIEVE NO MORE THAN 10K MILES. *TR
THE VEHICLE REVERSE UNEXPECTEDLY RESULTING IN CRASHING THE OWNER WHEN UNLOADING GROCERY. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE IN HOSPITALIZE AND UNDERWENT SURGERY. THE OWNER BROKE BOTH OF HIS FEMUR BONES AND RIGHT KNEE CAP. *TR
I WAS REAR ENDED ON THE INTERSTATE AND PUSHED INTO A TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME ,BUT MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY . I STRUCK MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE CAR AND THE REAR END IS ALSO DAMAGED. THE AIR BAGS IN THE CAR THAT HIT ME DEPLOYED; AND THE TRUCK I HIT HAD AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. JUST WONDERING IF THERE ARE OTHER REPORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH BMW AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING ? *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED INTO A MILLION PIECES. NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE AROUND AND NO FALLING DEBRIS WAS NEARBY. THE SUNROOF EXPLODED OUTWARD WITH A LOUD BANG, LIKE A GUNSHOT. GLASS RAINED DOWN INSIDE THE CAR AND MY PASSENGER AND I WERE CUT WHILE TRYING TO REMOVE PIECES OF GLASS FROM THE INTERIOR. *TR
DOOR LOCKED ITSELF WITH KEY INSIDE, AND CAN NOT OPEN. *TR
I TRIED TO START UP THE CAR, IT STARTED, I DROVE A FEW FEET, AND THEN FAILED. I RECEIVED A WARNING MESSAGE SAYING THAT THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PARKING LOT SO I MANAGED TO GET IT TO START AGAIN, IT BARELY MOVED, AND THEN FAILED AGAIN. ONE MORE TIME I WAS ABLE TO START IT AND GET IT INTO A PARKING SPACE. I TRIED TO START IT UP MULTIPLE TIMES AGAIN BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I CALLED BMW TO HAVE IT TOWED. *TR
SAME THING AS LAST TIME. STARTED UP THE CAR, GOT IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE ENGINE FAILED. TRIED TO START IT AGAIN, THE ENGINE KEPT TURNING OVER AND FINALLY STARTED UP ENOUGH TO GO INTO THE TOW TRUCK. AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE ENGINE SPUTTERED WITH A MESSAGE DISPLAYING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED ALL HAPPENING WITHIN ABOUT 5 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. WE WERE ADVISED BY THEIR MASTER TECHNICIAN THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE RAIL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (DIAG CODE: D1350_00000000_04_02 AND FAULT 48A9 & 3F31). WE ASKED HIM IF THIS COULD SOMEHOW BE PREVENTED AND HE REPLIED "NO" AND WENT ON TO SAY THAT HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE. HIS COMMENT WAS TROUBLING TO US, SINCE WE JUST GOT DONE DRIVING ABOUT SIX HOURS ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED NEAR OUR HOME. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY? I PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE HERE FILING THIS COMPLAINT! PLEASE INVESTIGATE SO THAT THIS CAN BE PREVENTED FROM OTHERS EXPERIENCING THIS TRAUMA. *TR
CAR SUFFERS FROM TERRIBLE HESITATION UPON ACCELERATION FROM A ROLLING STOP. DESCRIBED AS TIP-IN ON DISCUSSION WEBSITES. I NOTE MANY HAVE COMPLAINED OF THIS IN VARIOUS BMW MODELS AND BMW DOES NOT ADMIT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
ENGINE STALLED. I WAS AT A STOP SIGN. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, WHEN GREEN SIGNAL CAME ON, STARTED TO MOVE THE CAR, BUT INSTEAD OF GAINING SPEED WITH ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE STALLED WITH WARNING SIGN STATING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, FUNCTIONING WITH REDUCED POWER". THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ACCELERATING, INSTEAD WAS STALLING AND MOVING VERY SLOWLY AT LESS THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR SPEED AND DID NOT GAIN ANY MOMENTUM EVEN AFTER FULL THROTTLE APPLIED. BEING A LOW TRAFFIC ROAD, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT MOST LANE; BUT IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE AS THE VEHICLE WAS STALLING AT THE INTERSECTION AND WAS MOVING INCH BY INCH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, WHO CHECKED EVERYTHING AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. I ALSO QUESTIONED HIM, WHETHER THE EVENT WAS RECORDED IN THE VEHICLE COMPUTER INFO; BUT HE SAID NOTHING WAS RECORDED. I CHECKED ONLINE FORUMS AND FOUND SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND EVEN AFTER MULTIPLE SERVICES, MOST OF THE PEOPLE CONTINUED TO HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE, AS COUPLE OF CUSTOMERS HAVE EVEN SAID, THEIR VEHICLES STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. I REQUEST YOUR ORGANIZATION TO LOOK INTO THIS. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE ROMS WOULD FLUCTUATE REPEATEDLY AS THE VEHICLE WOULD ATTEMPT TO STALL. THE DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM FAILED AND ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE EXHAUST WAS OPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,500.
THE VEHICLE SPORADICALLY SUFFERS FROM ENGINE FAILURE WHEN EXECUTING A SHARP TURN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SO FAR ON THREE SEPARATE AND DISTINCT INSTANCES DURING ITS FIRST 1,000 MILES OF SERVICE, UNDER THE OPERATION OF TWO DIFFERENT DRIVERS, WITH SEVERAL PASSENGER WITNESSES ON ONE OCCASION. WHEN THESE FAILURES HAPPEN, THE VEHICLE ENGINE STALLS OR OTHERWISE SHUTS ITSELF OFF, WHICH LEADS TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING IN MID-TURN AND LOSS OF BRAKING. THE ONLY WAY TO RECOVER CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS TO LET IT COAST TO A STOP, THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN PUSH THE IGNITION BUTTON TO RE-START THE CAR. *TR
I LEASED MY 2012 BMW X5 35I IN MAY 2011. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH 2 TODDLERS AT AROUND 65 MPH, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE MESSAGE DISPLAYED "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCED POWER". I PULLED OVER ON THE SHOULDER, AND TRIED TO RE-START THE CAR, BUT IT WON'T START. WHEN IT DID START AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, THE CAR SHOOK VIGOROUSLY AND THEN TURNED OFF. I INITIATED THE SOS CALL VIA THE BMW ASSIST FEATURE IN THE CAR. FOR SOME REASON, THE CALL FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES, AND THE DATA COULD NOT BE TRANSFERRED. WHEN THE CALL DID GO THROUGH, THE CAR COULD NOT SEND MY EXACT COORDINATES TO THE REPS TO HELP ME GET A TOW TRUCK. AFTER TRYING FOR ABOUT 30 MIN TO GET HELP FROM THE BMW ASSIST, I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, WHICH STARTED NORMALLY AS IF NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. THE IN-BUILT DIAGNOSIS SAID "ALL SYSTEMS OK". I GOT ON THE INTERSTATE, AND AS I REACHED AROUND 60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AGAIN WITH THE SAME MESSAGE "ENGINE MALFUNCTION ...". FOR THE NEXT 1.5 HOURS, I TRIED TO CALL THE BMW ASSIST OVER MY PHONE TO GET HELP. THE SAID THE TOW TRUCK SHOULD COME IN THE NEXT HOUR. FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS, THE 2 TODDLERS AND 3 ADULTS WERE SITTING BY THE INTERSTATE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DID NOT SHOW UP, I CALLED THE BMW ASSIST REPS AGAIN, TO BE TOLD THAT THE TRUCK SHALL TAKE ANOTHER 45 MINUTES TO REACH US. I THEN CALLED MY FRIEND TO TAKE EVERYBODY HOME, AND I STAYED WITH THE CAR. I THEN TRIED TO DRIVE AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER, ONLY TO BE PULLED OVER BY THE HIGHWAY PATROL. HE SAID I WAS VIOLATING THE LAW BY DRIVING AT 40 MPH IN A 70 MPH ZONE. I THEN CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO GET A TOW TRUCK, WHICH ARRIVED IN 30 MIN. THE NEXT DAY MY WIFE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND THE REPORT SHEET THEY PROVIDED SAID THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP WAS FAULTY, AND THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED IT. I AM YET TO TAKE MY CAR ON THE INTERSTATE TO CHECK THE PERFORMANCE AT 65 MPH. *TT
