Summary

The speedometer went to zero when the vehicle was driven on the highway at 70MPH and the transmission would shift down the wrench symbol came on the LCD display. Had to pull over and shut the vehicle off and open the drivers door to make sure that the vehicle was fully off/reset. Started the vehicle and drove home. Dealer noted that this may be covered under the extended warranty on the lead frame issue... Since the vehicle has 167759 miles on it, that the warranty would not cover the issue (Warranty to 150000 miles). I will get the vehicle repaired at my cost since this is our family vehicle. Since this is a safety issue the warranty should be for all the vehicles that experience this issue. The vehicle was traveling on a highway and this is not an acceptable condition for the safety of my family or others around us when driving. I am confident in noting that the warranty should be amended for this issue. If this issue was caused by me due to carless driving I would not have an issue. Since this is a design/reliability issue I do not understand why I am responsible for the cost of the repair.

WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR, RPMS REVVED UP, SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL TEMPORARILY HAD NO EFFECT, "FUEL LEVEL LOW" LIGHT CAME ON AND "TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS STILL ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THOUGH THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. I STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE VEHICLE WORKED FINE. THIS EVENT HAPPENED THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTH. SHEEHY FORD IN ASHLAND, VIRGINIA SAID THAT I NEEDED A NEW "LEAD FRAME" AND THAT THE CHARGE WOULD BE $900. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I LEARNED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FOR THE 2012 FORD EXPEDITION, BUT MY 2012 EXPEDITION VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND FIXED BY FORD. I COULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. RECALL INFORMATION FOUND ONLINE: "FORD HAS ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE 2011-2012 FORD F-150, AND 2012 FORD EXPEDITION FOR A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION'S LEAD FRAME; IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS THE PART CAN LEAD TO A TEMPORARY DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR. DEPENDING ON HOW FAST THE VEHICLE IS GOING, THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ABRUPT REDUCTION IN SPEED THAT COULD CAUSE THE REAR TIRES TO SLIDE OR LOCK UP. FORD SAID IT'S AWARE OF THREE ACCIDENTS REPORTED AND NO INJURIES RELATED TO THE ISSUE. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE A 6R80 TRANSMISSION IN CERTAIN FORD F-150S BUILT AT DEARBORN ASSEMBLY PLANT AND KANSAS CITY ASSEMBLY PLANT, AUG. 19, 2011 THROUGH MARCH 9, 2012; 2012 FORD EXPEDITION VEHICLES BUILT AT KENTUCKY TRUCK PLANT, AUG. 19, 2011 THROUGH DEC. 19, 2011; FORD MUSTANG VEHICLES BUILT AT FLAT ROCK ASSEMBLY PLANT, AUG. 19, 2011 THROUGH FEB. 21, 2012; AND LINCOLN NAVIGATOR VEHICLES BUILT AT KENTUCKY TRUCK PLANT, AUG. 19, 2011 THROUGH DEC. 17, 2011.

MY 2012 EXHIBITION EXHIBITS THE SAME SYMPTOMS THAT ARE DESCRIBED IN RECALL# 12V190000. WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS; SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO ZERO, TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TO 5TH GEAR AND WHEN THE BREAKS ARE APPLIED DOWNSIFTS TO 1ST GEAR CAUSING WHEEL HOP AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL AND INJURY. IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE INCLUDED TIME FRAME AND AT THE INCLUDED KENTUCKY MANUFACTURING PLANT, YET THE VEHICLE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE RECALL REPAIR BECAUSE IT IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL REGISTRATION SYSTEM SO DEALERS WON'T FIX IT. THIS IS A EXPENSIVE REPAIR RECALL WITH POTENTIALLY FATAL CONSEQUENCES.

AT THE SAME TIME, THE CAR BEGINS BUCKING WITH SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION, BUT ULTIMATELY THE VEHICLE IS LOSING POWER AND ACCELERATION IS LIMITED OR USELESS. SEVERAL TIMES I COULD RESET THE ENGINE PROBLEM BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING. THE LAST TWO TIMES IT OCCURED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO SHIFT FROM 1ST GEAR. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT AFTER PULLING OFF THE ROAD BUT IT DID NOT FIX IT THIS TIME. (AND ON THESE OCCASIONS THE DASH LIGHTS DID NOT CHANGE RIGHT AWAY/FIRST). I PULLED OVER 3 MORE TIMES AND TRIED SHIFTING THROUGH ALL THE GEARS MANUALLY, INCLUDING USING THE 4WD TOGGLE, AND THAT FINALLY ALLOWED THE CAR TO SHIFT NORMALLY. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND AT HIGHER SPEEDS CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO LOSE TRACTION. I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE AT 65MPH AND I WAS IN A POSITION TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF TIMES HAS BEEN 8 IN APPROXIMATELY 2,000 MILES OF DRIVING. IF THIS HAPPENS NOW THAT SNOW AND ICE ARE ON THE ROAD, IT COULD CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC CRASH.

THE TRANSMISSION FLUSH HAS BEEN DONE AND THE RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING HAS ALSO BEEN ADDRESSED. BUT THE AFOREMENTIONED SYMPTOMS HAVE TAKEN PLACE AT LEAST TWO TIMES BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION RECALL WAS ADDRESSED AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS DONE AND AT LEAST THREE TIMES (SO FAR) AFTER THE TRANSMISSION RECALL ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED AND AFTER THE TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS DONE. COULD IT BE DEFECTIVE FAN CLUTCHES THAT ARE CAUSING THESE ISSUES ON EXPEDITIONS?

THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES. THE FIRST ONE I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A MAIN ROAD WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED PULLING, ACTED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. I PULLED OVER TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AND IT WAS FINE. THE NEXT WAS ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY CRUISING AT ABOUT 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED, LOCKED UP THE REAR TIRES, WENT INTO LIMP MODE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CODE WAS P0270 FOR THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR. SYSMPTONS ARE THE SAME AS DESCRIBED IN FORDS RECALL #16S19 BUT I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE OF THE BUILD DATE ALTHOUGH THE SAME TRANSMISSION A D COMPONENTS WERE USED. THE INSTANCE HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY WITH MY WIFE AND 3 YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE, CRUISING APPROX 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP, TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS TO FIRST GEAR, VEHICLE SKIDS TOWARD THE EDGE OF AN EMBANKMENT, JUST BEFORE GETTING THERE THE WHEELS UNLOCK AND MY WIFE IS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO A NEAR BY CHURCH PARKING LOT TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF.

I HAVE THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, TRANSMISSION AND THE SAME EXACT UNEXPECTED MALFUNCTION WITH THE LEAD FRAME AS WHAT THE RECALL NUMBER 16S19 IS FOR HAPPENED 3 SEPARATE TIMES. ONE TIME WAS WITH MY WIFE, TWO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 5 AND MYSELF ON A BUSY ROAD RIGHT AFTER A DOWNHILL BLIND CURVE WHERE MANY BAD ACCIDENTS HAPPEN FROM SPEEDERS. THE REASON MY VEHICLE IS NOT BEING RECALLED BECAUSE IT WAS MANUFACTURED LESS THAN 60 DAYS AFTER THE RECALL DATES FOR THE MALFUNCTIONING VEHICLES. SO I HAVE TO COME PUT OF MY POCKET $750+ TO GET IT FIXED WHEN FORD MOTOR COMPANY WHO I HAVE BEEN WITH FOR 15 YEARS NOW IS REFUSING TO ACCEPT THAT THE PROBLEM IS STILL ACTIVE IS OTHER EXPEDITIONS OUT SIDE OF THE DATES OF THE 2012 RECALLS. ALL IT'S GOING TO TAKE IS JUST ONE TIME FOR SOMETHING BAD TO HAPPEN OR ANY TYPE OF ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND I WILL BE SEEING FORD MOTOR COMPANY IN COURT. I AM SO BOTHERED BY THIS, I HAVE REACHED THE POINT TO WHERE I WILL MOST LIKELY NOT GIVE FORD ANOTHER PENNY OF MINE.

VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTS WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. PANEL READS, FLAT TIRES, NO FUEL, NO GAUGES WILL WORK. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION ON A MAJOR HWY, I GAVE THE VEHICLE GAS TO ENTER THE LANE, AS I WAS APPROACHING A HIGHER SPEED , MY VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED AND THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME HAD TO SLAM ON THEIR BREAKS TO AVOID HITTING ME IN THE BACK. ANOTHER TIME AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED ON AN INTERSTATE , AS I WAS SWITCHING LANES, MY VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTS ALMOST CAUSING ANOTHER WRECK. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR CAR SEATS, MY GRANDCHILDREN WOULD HAVE HIT THE FLOOR. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS QUICK ACTIONS, PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED OR EVEN WORSE DEAD. AFTER A FEW MORE INCIDENTS, I FIND OUT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM WAS MADE, BUT NOT ON MY VEHICLE . SAME YEAR, SAME MODEL, SAME FACTORY, JUST NOT MY VIN! RECALL 16S19- NHTSA ID# 16V248000 . MY VEHICLE HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT, SO IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY. NOTICE I'M ATTACHED PICTURE. 0 MPH, BUT LOOK AT THE 2000 RPM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL FORD SERVICE CENTER APPROX. AUG. 2017 WITH MILEAGE AT APPROX. 54000 MILES WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL COVERED UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. WE WERE EXPERIENCING A SUDDEN DOWNSHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION WHEN DRIVING IN CITY STREETS. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD SHOW THE SPEED AT 0 MPH AND THE MESSAGE --- MILES TO EMPTY WOULD DISPLAY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ABLE TO PULL ANY CODES AT THAT TIME OR DUPLICATE THE SYMPTOMS ON THE VEHICLE. OUR VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL. WE WERE NOT CHARGED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS EVER DISPLAYED UNTIL APRIL 5TH, 2018. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC GOING 75 MPH. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 60400. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DID THE SAME THING AS PREVIOUSLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE TO GET SCANNED AND THEY PULLED CODE P0270. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT FORD IS EXPANDING THEIR RECALL DUE TO MORE COMPLAINTS. WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT FOR APRIL 24, 2018. FORTUNATELY, WE HAVE A FORD EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN. THE DEDUCTIBLE IS $100.00. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE CONDITIONS UNDER FORD'S RECALL NUMBER 16S19, NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V248000. THIS IS MY WIFE'S PRIMARY VEHICLE. SHE HAS EXPERIENCED THE SUDDEN DOWNSHIFT ON MANY OCCASIONS LATELY BUT NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MY WIFE STATES THAT SHE HAS TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. A FEW MINUTES LATER SHE RESTARTS THE VEHICLE AND THE SYMPTOMS SOMETIMES QUIT. SOMETIMES IT TAKES A FEW CYCLES OF TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF FOR THEM TO GO AWAY. HER ROUTE TO WORK INVOLVES A LOT OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WITH A LOT OF SEMI'S (TRACTOR TRAILER'S) DUE TO WHERE WE LIVE (OIL FIELD TRAFFIC). SAFETY IS MY MAIN CONCERN. I HAVE HER TEXT ME EVERY DAY WHEN SHE ARRIVES TO WORK(SCHOOL) WITH OUR 9YR OLD SON.

Summary

ON 07/24/2017 I HAD CONTACTED NHTSA TO CONFIRM THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN PLACED ON MY 2012 FORD EXPEDITION DUE TO SOME ISSUES I WAS EXPERIENCING . I WAS PROVIDED THE CONTACT NUMBER FOR THE MANUFACTURE FOR RESOLUTION. ON 07/24 ANDY MOHR FORD LINCOLN, PLAINFIELD, IN WAS CONTACTED AND AN 07:30 AM APPT. WAS MADE FOR THAT FOLLOWING MORNING TO PERFORM THE 16S19 WHICH ONLY TOOK ABOUT 20 MINUTES FROM THE TIME OF CHECKING IN, 07/25. I WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT MY DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THE SPEEDOMETER IMMEDIATELY DROPPED TO 0, VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING FORWARD AND LOST OF SPEED. I PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES HOPING THE ISSUE WOULD CORRECT ITSELF. EVENTUALLY THE PIC OF A WRENCH AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD ALL OF WHICH DISAPPEARED ONCE I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND TURNED THE KEY OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. WITHIN 20 MIN'S OF ARRIVING I WAS INFORMED THAT THE 16S19 UPDATE HAD BEEN COMPLETED. I ASKED QUESTIONS TO THE MECHANIC TO FIND OUT WHAT EXACTLY HAD BEEN DONE FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING. THE MECHANIC WAS VERY NICE, BUT GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT WE PREFORMED THE 16S19 UPDATE, WHICH IS WHAT WE WERE NOTIFIED TO DO, COULDN'T CONFIRM THAT THE PROBLEM IS FIXED. WHEN I DROVE HOME THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE FIXED. THERE WAS A LITTLE HESITATION, BUT THE RIDE WAS FINE OVER ALL. I WAS EXCITED HOPING TO HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN THE VEHICLE I DRIVE TO TRANSPORT MY FAMILY FOR DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES. ABOUT THREE HOURS LATER I TOOK A QUICK TRIP TO THE STORE, WHICH TURNED INTO A VERY STRESSFUL EVENT HAVING TO PULL OVER SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THE CARS INTERMITTENT LOSS OF THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR (OSS) SIGNAL TO POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE, POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN A TEMPORARY UNINTENDED DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR. MY CHILDREN NORMALLY LEAVE THE HOUSE FOR THE DAY WHILE I'M WORKING. THEY HAVE BEEN HOME ALL WEEK DUE TO MY FEAR OF PUTTING THIS VEHICLE ON THE ROAD.

THE CONTACT CALLED A CLOSER LOCAL DEALER (COURTESY FORD LOCATED ON 1636 DOGWOOD DR SE, CONYERS, GA, 30001). WHILE DRIVING TO THE SECOND DEALER, THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO, THERE WAS A JOLT, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 30 MPH. MY 2012 EXPEDITION LIMITED HAS 102,000 MILES. IT HAS BEGAN TO DOWNSHIFT UNEXPECTEDLY IN THE RANGE OF 15MPH TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. IT SEEMS TO DOWNSHIFT THEN GET STUCK IN A LOWER GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION SLOWS YOU DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY, AND WON'T ALLOW YOU TO INCREASE SPEED UNTIL YOU PULL OVER AND LET IT GO DOWN TO 0 MPH THEN RESUME ENTERING BACK INTO TRAFFIC. I HAVE FOUND SITES LIKE 360 LEGAL WHICH SAY FORD HAS A RECALL FOR A MODULE TO BE REPROGRAMMED, BUT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE STATES THERE IN NO SUCH RECALL AND NO COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE REGARDING THIS DEFECT. IT'S VERY UNSAFE IN TRAFFIC WHERE YOU SLOW THEN GIVE IT GAS TO EXPECT IT TO INCREASE SPEED AND IT SUDDENLY SLOWS NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL. THE TRANSMISSION REVS UP LOUDLY AS IT YOU WERE INCREASING SPEED BUT YET YOUR SPEED CANNOT INCREASE. THIS HAS HAPPEN AFTER SLOWING FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND ACCELERATING AGAIN, WHEN I PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND ACCELERATE TO DRIVE AWAY, AND IN THE SCHOOL ZONE AT MY CHILD'S SCHOOL.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS THEY HAVE AN ISSUE, BUT REFUSE TO COVER IT. VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTS ABRUPTLY WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT APPROXIMATELY 55 TO 60 MILES PER HOUR. VERY DANGEROUS, IT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SOME VEHICLES WERE RECALLED BUT FORD SAYS MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLES THAT WERE RECALLED. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM IS EXACTLY AS THE ONE DESCRIBED TO THE RECALLS IN 184,000 FORD VEHICLES FROM 2011-2012. A WRENCH SHOWS UP IN THE DASH BOARD AND A SIGN THAT SHOWS LOW GASOLINE LEVELS. WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS THE ONLY OPTION IS TO PULLOVER AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. I STOPPED TURNED OF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON. AFTER THE CAR WOULD DRIVE NORMALLY WITHOUT SHOWING ANYTHING ON THE DASHBOARD AND WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS AT LEAST 7 TIMES. WHEN A SCANNER IS CONNECTED IT DOES NOT SHOW ANY SIGNS OR PROBLEMS. VERY DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE EVERY TIME IT HAPPENED. IT USUALLY HAPPENED AT A HIGH SPEED IN THE HIGHWAY WHICH MAKES IT EVEN A MORE DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND BEING DRIVEN OVER 55 MILES PER HOUR. IT FEELS LIKE IT DOWNSHIFTS FROM 5TH TO 1ST GEAR WITHOUT ANY REASON. ONLY WHILE DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR OR MORE. IT RELATES TO RECALL 12V190000 AND IT SEEMS LIKE FORD PROMISED TO REPLACE THE "LEAD FRAME" WHICH CAUSES THIS DEFECT AT NO CHARGE UNDER 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. THEY SAY MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT HAVE RECALLS. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THE SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHAT ALL THE 184,000 CARS BETWEEN 2011-2012 HAD EXPERIENCED. IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE IN. I ALSO FOUND THAT IN THE PAST 3 CARS WERE INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND THANKFULLY NO FATALITIES. I DO NOT WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS NEGLIGENCE FROM FORD. PLEASE HOLD THEM RESPONSIBLE AND ACOUNTABLE FOR THEIR POOR ACCOUNTABILITY.

RECENTLY, THE REAR TAILGATE AROUND THE LIFT HANDLE HAS BECOME CORRODED AND THE PAINT IS PEELING. I KEEP THE VEHICLE STORED AND RARELY USE IT. I KEEP IT IN IMMACULATE CONDITION AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED. THIS IS THE ONLY BLEMISH ON IT, BUT I CAN SEE IT IS GETTING WORSE AND WILL EVENTUALLY NEED TO BE REPAIRED AND REPAINTED. I UNDERSTAND THE IS A PROBLEM WITH ALL EXPEDITIONS AND BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR SINCE IT APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.

PAINT BLISTERS ARE STARTING TO APPEAR ON REAR LIFT GATE. DEALER HAS INDICATED THAT THIS IS NOT RUST BUT CORROSION DUE TO THE ALUMINIUM MATERIAL THAT THE LIFT GATE IS MADE OF AND POOR PREP WORK OR CONTAMINATION FROM THE FACTORY PAINT. THEY INDICATED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE AND IT WILL MOST LIKELY CONTINUE UNTIL THE LIFT GATE IS REPAINTED. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THE HOOD MAY ALSO HAVE THIS ISSUE IN THE FUTURE SINCE IT IS ALSO ALUMINUM. A CAR THAT IS THREE YEARS OLD AND GARAGE KEPT SHOULD NOT HAVE BLISTERING PAINT. MY OTHER VEHICLE IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD AND BESIDES CHIPS THE PAINT IS FINE.

Summary

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED AND HEARD A SOUND WHEN THE WHEELS WERE TURNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG HARNESS AND SHOCKS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WITH THE SHOCKS RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND WERE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE SHE ASSUMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD INCLUDED THE RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE AND THE SAFETY BELT MINDER PER THE VEHICLE'S OWNER MANUAL. THE CONTACT COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN BEEPING AS USUAL TO NOTIFY HER WHEN AN OCCUPANT WAS UNBLOCKED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RCM HAD NOT BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH THE VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THE MANUAL STATED THAT THE RCM WAS INCLUDED. THE DEALER THEN IDENTIFIED THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT WAS WHAT CAUSED THE SERIES OF BEEPING SOUNDS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,311.

Summary

WHILE DRIVING THE REAR AIR SUSPENSION FAILED ABRUPTLY CAUSING THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO BOTTOM OUT. THE VEHICLE LOST HANDLING ABILITY, COULD NOT BE DRIVEN AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT I USE THE VEHICLE TO TOW BOATS AND SNOWMOBILE TRAILERS OFTEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IF THE AIR SUSPENSION WERE TO FAIL WHILE ATTACHED TO A TRAILER THE TONGUE WILL HIT THE ROADWAY AND MAY BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I THINK THE SUSPENSION SHOULD BE RE-DESIGNED TO INCLUDE A SET OF SPRINGS TO PREVENT THE SUSPENSION FROM COMPLETELY BOTTOMING OUT IF THE AIR SUSPENSION FAILS. *TR

THE SECOND TIME AFTER BEING "FIXED" BY THE DEALERSHIP THE VERY NEXT DAY SOMEONE ALMOST REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE "JUMP" WAS SO IMPACTFUL THAT I SUDDENLY APPLIED MY BRAKES THINKING SOMEONE HAD REAR ENDED ME. THE CAR BEHIND ME STOP JUST AN HAIR SHORT OF HITTING THE VEHICLE. IN THE DAYS TO COME, MY WIFE FOUND IT MORE SO. OUR WORKAROUND HAS BEEN TO INSERT A NECK PILLOW AT THE BASE OF THE HEADREST. WE CONTACTED FORD 800#, AND THE RESPONSE WAS THAT THE HEADREST WAS DESIGNED WITH THE ANGLE FORWARD LIKE THAT FOR SAFETY, AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THEY DID NOT SEEM TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH MANY PEOPLE HAVE POSTED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS 'FEATURE' ON THE WEB. APPARENTLY IT IS NOT EVEN NEW FOR THE 2011 MODEL YEAR. Summary

AFTER PURCHASING A 2012 FORD EXPEDITION, WE DISCOVERED THAT, WHEN RUNNING THE SEAT A/C, THE MOTOR INSIDE THE SEAT OVERHEATS. THIS CAUSES THE UPPER SECTION OF THE SEAT TO BECOME HOT, AND THE SEAT POCKET BEHIND THE SEAT TO BECOME VERY HOT. WE WERE ADVISED THAT THE SYSTEM WAS BUILT WITHOUT PROPER VENTILATION FOR THE MOTOR, AND THERE WAS NO FIX. NOT JUST FOR OUR VEHICLE BUT FOR ALL 2012 EXPEDITIONS....ALL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE ADVICE GIVEN BY FORD WAS "DON'T USE THE SEAT A/C DURING THE SUMMER." I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE OKAY TO USE THE SEAT HEATER IN THE WINTER. HOWEVER, IF THE BLOWER DOESN'T VENTILATE PROPERLY, THE MOTOR WILL STILL BECOME HOT. MY FEAR IS THAT IT WILL BECOME SO HOT THAT IT COULD EITHER SHORT OUT, GIVING SOMEONE A NASTY SHOCK, OR WORSE, CATCH FIRE. *JS
