The contact owns a 2012 Honda Fit equipped with Continental General Tires, Tire Line: Altimax RT43, Tire Size: 195/50/R16, DOT number: 6539wby54618. The contact stated that the driver’s side front tire had started to show signs of bubbling on the sidewall of the tire. The contact had taken the vehicle to a certified tire mechanic who notified the contact of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21T001000 (Tires) and 21T018000 (Tires). The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the Vin was not under recall. The vehicle failure mileage was 147,000 and the approximate tire failure mileage was 13,000. SPARK PLUGS NUMBER 1 & 2 CAME LOOSE AND CAUSE VEHICLE TO SUDDENLY LOOSE POWER ON HIGHWAY. THE LOOSE SPARKPLUGS DAMAGED THE IGNITION COILS AND THE CAR WOULD ONLY RUN AT ABOUT 15 MPH WHICH WAS DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN INSPECTED THE NUMBER 3 & 4 PLUGS WERE STILL TIGHT. SPARKPLUGS AND IGNITION COILS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. AROUND 90000 MILES ON VEHICLE. DATE IS ALSO APPROXIMATE
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, WHEN I STARTED MAKING THE LEFT TURN I FELT AND HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BUT I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT VEHICLE IN PARK BUT IT WOULD STILL ROLL, I THEN APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I THEN PROCEEDED TO CALL MY SON, HE ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED, I TOLD HIM THAT I HEARD A LOUD BANG & THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T ACCELERATE & THE VEHICLE KEPT ROLLING AFTER IT WAS IN PARK, HE SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE I HAD A BROKEN AXEL I THEN CALLED AAA. AAA ARRIVED & ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED & IF THE VEHICLE ROLLED WHEN PUT IN PARK, I SAID YES IT STILL ROLLED & THE DRIVER TOLD ME I HAD A BROKEN AXEL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY SON'S GARAGE, WHERE HE REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXEL, THAT INDEED HAD SNAPPED IN HALF. THIS HAPPENED AS I WAS TURNING ONTO BUSY RT 27 IN SHARON, MA. NOW I'M WORRIED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE AXEL COULD SNAP IN HALF WHILE I'M DRIVING MY VEHICLE.
OUR WELL-MAINTAINED HONDA FIT HAS DEVELOPED AN ISSUE WHERE THE EPS STEERING LIGHT COMES ON SPORADICALLY DURING DRIVING. IN EACH OF THESE EVENTS, THE STEERING ASSIST SOMETIMES CUTS OUT FOR A SECOND OR TWO CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO MANUALLY CONTROL THE STEERING. IN ALL EVENT INSTANCES, CABIN POWER IS AFFECTED: POWER TO RADIO WILL RESTART, AND SOMETIMES DASHBOARD LIGHTS GO AS WELL. IN MORE SEVERE INSTANCES DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND SEATBELT LIGHTS CUTOUT MOMENTARILY AND A STEERING DTC SHINES QUICKLY IN THE DUMMY LIGHT CLUSTER. ENVIRONMENT: EPS STEERING ISSUES HAPPEN AT ALL MANNER OF SPEEDS AND MANUEVERS - REGULAR BACKROAD DRIVING, PARKING LOTS AND EVEN SITTING IDLE. CAR HARDLY HAS BEEN DRIVEN THE PAST FEW YEARS (UNDER 7500/YEAR) AND HAS NEVER HIT ANYTHING, BEEN BUMPED (OR IF IT DID, WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT) NOR BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OF ANY KIND. WE ARE IN A SALT-BELT STATE. PROBLEM STARTED OCCURRING LATE DECEMBER 2020, DURING REGULAR COLD WEATHER (30-45 DEGREES CONSISTENTLY); IT IS NOT GARAGED.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, I HEARD A LOUD BANG FOLLOWED BY A BUZZING/GRINDING SOUND. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THE AXEL HAD SNAPPED AT THE LOCATION OF A VIBRATION DAMPER.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AXLE SNAPPED IN TWO INSIDE THE RUBBER DAMPER WEIGHT AT ITS CENTER. AS HONDA FORUMS ON THE INTERNET SHOW, THIS IS BECOMING MORE COMMON AS FITS AGE. THE DAMPER IS HELD IN PLACE BY ONLY ONE STAINLESS STEEL CLAMP ( AT ITS LOWER END). SINCE WATER AND SALT CAN ENTER ITS UPPER END , WITHOUT A CLAMP THERE, IT STAYS IN THE SPACE BETWEEN THE AXLE AND DAMPER AND THE CORROSION BEGINS. EVEN AFTERMARKET MANUFACTURERS HAVE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND LEFT THE DAMPER OFF THEIR AXLES. WHEN THIS BREAK HAPPENED THE VEHICLE WAS STARTING OFF FROM A STOP AND TURNING RIGHT ON A CITY STREET.

A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER AND INFORMED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD GIVE HIM A CALLBACK. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,000.
THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000 < MILES. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT THAT LED TO A HIGHWAY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE.I HAD THE CAR BROUGHT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP. UPON THEIR INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD BOTH FRONT AXLES WERE BROKEN. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE REP, ONE AXLE DISINTEGRATED AND THE OTHER HAD A NOTICEABLE CRACK IN IT. I REQUESTED THE DAMAGED COMPONENTS BE SAVED FOR AN INVESTIGATION ISN'T THIS A SAFETY CONCERN? WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY?
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING LIGHT TURNED ON INTERMITTENTLY. THIS CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP OR BE REALLY HARD TO STEER. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEED OR WHEN IDLE. THIS CAN OCCUR MID STEER AT TIMES AS WELL.
WHILE COMING TO A STOP ON A HILL ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOUD NOISE AND THE CAR STARTED TO ROLL BACKWARD.
I HAVING INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING. SO FAR IT HAS HAPPENED MOSTLY WITH LOW SPEED TURNS. I WILL HAVE TO USE MORE EFFORT TO COMPLETE THE TURN WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I HAD THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COME ON WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD ONCE FOR A FEW SECONDS. 60,000 MILES ON CAR SO FAR WITH NO PROBLEMS IN THE PAST AND NO ACCIDENTS.
THE LEFT FRONT AXLE SHAFT BROKE IN JUNE 2018, WITH 89,032 ODOMETER MILES, AND THE RIGHT AXLE SHAFT BROKE DECEMBER 3, 2019 WITH 105,436 MILES. IN THE MOST RECENT INSTANCE I WAS STOPPED ON A HILL, WITH A CAR BEHIND ME, AND WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE AXLE BROKE AND MY CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I APPLIED THE BRAKES QUICKLY ENOUGH TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR BEHIND ME. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR MILES FROM HOME WHERE SHE WAS STRANDED UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COULD BE CALLED. MY MECHANIC SAYS HE IS SEEING THIS WITH SOME FREQUENCY ON HONDA FITS, AND IT SEEMS TO BE THE RESULT OF RUST WHERE HONDA INSTALLS A RUBBER VIBRATION DAMPER AT THE AXLE. THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS INCIDENT IS OBVIOUS IF THE CAR WERE TO LOSE PROPULSION ON A BUSY HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED, OR WHERE THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTS TO ROLL BACKWARDS AS I EXPERIENCED. AND APPARENTLY THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA FIT, AND MAYBE OTHER MODELS WITH THE SAME DESIGN.THE REPAIR OF BOTH AXLES HAVE COST US A TOTAL OF $740.00.
CAR WAS STOPPED IN A ROUNDABOUT. UPON ACCELERATING THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND THE CAR QUIT MOVING UNDER IT'S OWN POWER. THE PASSENGER SIDE DRIVE AXLE HAD SNAPPED UNDERNEATH THE VIBRATION DAMPNER. EXAMINATION OF THE BROKEN AXLE SHOWS EXTREME RUST HAD OCCURRED UNDER THE VIBRATION DAMPNER REDUCING THE AXLE'S DIAMETER AND THUS WEAKENING THE AXLE.
MOVING FORWARD AFTER RED LIGHT STOP; HEARD A "CLUNK" AND SOMETHING DROPPED. COULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. I ONLY HAVE 74,000 MILES ON CAR AND IT LIVES IN MY GARAGE. NO ACCIDENTS AND ALTHOUGH WE HAVE POTHOLES IN NE I HAVE NEVER HIT A BAD ONE THAT EVEN KNOCKED THE ALIGNMENT OUT. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A DANGEROUS INTERSECTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED! POLICE HAD TO COME TO DIRECT TRAFFIC AROUND ME. I'M NOW WORRIED THIS COULD HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY!!

TAKATA RECALL: THIS ISSUE WAS GIVEN AT LEAST 2 YEARS AGO. I HAVE CALLED HALL'S HONDA IN VA BEACH, VA SEVERAL TIMES ESPECIALLY DURING THE 1ST YEAR IT WAS RECALLED. I WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I CAN AGAIN WHEN I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM DMV. I WAS TOLD A CERTAIN PERSON WOULD CALL ME BACK, AND HE NEVER DID.9/15
SPARK PLUG #3 WAS MISSING A PIECE. THE METAL HOOK ON THE BASE. THE DAMAGED/FAULTY SPARK PLUG CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL. THE CAR WOULD BE UNABLE TO GO ABOVE 20 MPH. THIS FIRST HAPPENED WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING ON THE ENTRANCE RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY, CAUSING A HIGHLY UNSAFE SITUATION.
RIGHT FRONT AXLE BROKE TWICE IN ONE YEAR AT BOOT. REPLACED BY HONDA ONLY TO BREAK 10,000 MILES LATER.
A SPARK PLUG ON THE THIRD CYLINDER BLEW OUT AND STRIPPED THE THREADS ON THE CYLINDER. THE BLOW OUT CAUSED AN ELECTRODE TO BREAK OFF AND DAMAGED ONE OF THE VALVES. I MADE HONDA AMERICA AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ASKED THEM TO HONOR A "GOODWILL" WARRANTY SINCE, DESPITE BEING TWO YEARS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY, MY CAR ONLY HAS 44,000 MILES ON IT AND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL OF CAR. HONDA REFUSED. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS WILL LIKELY BE $4,000.

WHILE DRIVING HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE CAR STARTED TO LURCH AROUND 20 MPH WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT IN A PARKING LOT AND ON CITY STREETS. THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. THE LURCHING CONTINUED FOR THE NEXT 3 MILES UNTIL I GOT HOME. COULDN'T TAKE IT TO THE HONDA DEALER BECAUSE SERVICE DEPT WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT DAY, THE MIL INDICATOR CAME ON WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO LURCHING AROUND 20 MPH WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS TO THE HONDA DEALER. HONDA FOUND TWO CODES: (1) P0456 EVAP SYSTEM SMALL LEAK AND (2) P0847 TRANSMISSION FLUID PRESSURE SWITCH B (3RD CLUTCH) (SHORT OR STUCK ON). HONDA TROUBLESHOOTED AND STATED IN THEIR PAPERWORK "FOUND EVAP GAS CAP HAS NOT HAVE THE UPDATED GAS CAP. ALSO FOUND THE TRANSMISSION 3RD PRESSURE SWITCH IS STUCK ON. RECOMMEND TO REPLACE THE GAS CAP AND THE TRANSMISSION 3RD PRESSURE SWITCH." I ASKED IF WORK WAS COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD NO. QUOTED REPAIR COST OF $160 (FOR ITEM 1) AND $650 (FOR ITEM 2). DIDN'T EXPECT THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS WITH A HONDA CAR.

THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BEING TALKED ABOUT BY MANY PEOPLE ON HONDA FIT FORUMS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY CAR. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THE PLUGS JUST CAME LOOSE AND BURNED UP ONE COIL PACK, BUT IT DID NOT BLOW OUT THE SPARK PLUG. THE GEN 2 HONDA FITS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR SPARK PLUGS COMING LOSE. I WAS TOLD BY THE HONDA DEALER I NEEDED A NEW CYLINDER HEAD, COIL, SPARK PLUGS, AND HEAD GASKETS. HONDA IS DENYING MANY FIT OWNERS COVERAGE UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE LESS THAN 80,000 MILES ON MY CAR AND IT WAS PURCHASED IN 2013 AS A CERTIFIED HONDA WITH A 100,000 POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THIS NEEDS TO BE COVERED IN FULL AS A WARRANTY CLAIM THROUGH HONDA USA. I HAVE ATTACHED A PICTURE THAT WAS TAKEN TO SHOW THE BURNED UP COIL PACK.

I BROUGHT MY HONDA FIT 2012 TO MY MECHANIC WITH ISSUES OF A MISFIRE IN CYLINDERS 1 AND 2. HE THOUGHT IT WAS A SIMPLE REPLACEMENT OF THE SPARK PLUGS (ONLY 51,000 MILES ON THE CAR) AND MAYBE A COIL PACK REPLACEMENT. ONCE HE REMOVED THE SPARK PLUGS FROM CYLINDERS 1 AND 2, HE SAW THE TIP OF ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS GROUND HAD BROKEN OFF INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD AND THE COIL PACKS AND SPARK PLUGS WERE WORN AND COVERED IN A BLACKISH SOOT. HE INFORMED ME THAT THIS MEANT THAT THE SPARK PLUGS HAS WIGGLED LOOSE OVER TIME AND EXTREME PRESSURE HAD CAUSED THIS ISSUE. AND SINCE NO ONE HAS EVER TOUCHED MY ENGINE, BEYOND A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THAT THIS WAS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT WHEN INSTALLING THE PLUGS IN THE FIRST PLACE. ALL THE MOVEMENT CAUSED THE THREADS TO WEAR AWAY ON CYLINDER 2, SO I TOOK TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THINKING IT WOULD BE COVERED BY HONDA, BUT THEY LESS THAN HELPFUL. THEY STATED MY MECHANIC HAD NO IDEA WHAT HE WAS DOING, AND DID THE DAMAGE. THEY SAID THERE ARE NO CURRENT RECALLS OR CAMPAIGNS, BUT IT TOOK ME 10 SECS ON THE INTERNET TO FIND TSB'S ISSUED BY HONDA, NOTHING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING! THIS HAS PUT ME IN A FIGHT WITH HONDA OF AMERICA TO COVER THIS VERY COSTLY REPAIR.

I WILL GO TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WON'T BUDGE AND THE CAR KEEPS GOING. I NEARLY CRASHED THE OTHER DAY. IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE. IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IF ANYONE WERE WALKING IN FRONT OF MY CAR DURING THE EPISODE, THEY WOULD BE KILLED. THE OTHER DAY I WAS ABLE TO SWERVE TOWARD A GUARD RAIL INSTEAD OF HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IN THE MORNINGS I HAVE TO LET THE CAR WARM UP BECAUSE I CANNOT EVEN PRESS ON THE HARD BRAKE. I'M NOT ALONE AFTER RESEARCHING THIS. IT'S NOT THE BRAKES THEMSELVES. THEY WORK FINE, IT IS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SOMETHING MECHANICAL, A VALVE OR HOSE OR SOMETHING. FROM THE FIRST YEAR THE FITS FRONT LIGHT COVERS ARE SO SCRATCHED FROM NATURE VISABITY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE HAD THEM BUFFED AND SHINED WITH THE SAME RESULT HAPPENING. THE FACTORY TINT IS SO BUBBLED AND FADED DISABILITY OUT OF THE REAR WINDOW IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE PAINT ON THE ROOF AND HOOD LOOKS LIKE IT HAS COMPLETELY FADED OFF AND THEY CONTINUE TO GET WORSE. I INQUIRED AT YEAR 3 ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND WAS TOLD IT IS NOT WARRANTED.THAT I COULD PAY SOMEONE TO REPLACE THE TENT, HEADLIGHT COVERS AND GET IT REPAINTED.IT IS VERY HARD TO SEE PUT IF THE WINDOW AND AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHTS.
WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING, MY CAR RADIO WILL TURN OFF AND MY POWER STEERING WILL STOP WORKING. IT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTS WORKING AGAIN (BOTH RADIO AND POWER STEERING), SO I CANNOT IDENTIFY IF ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE AFFECTED. IT APPEARS THAT THE LIGHTS AND BLINKERS ARE WORKING AND I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, BUT I CAN NOT SAY THAT FOR SURE. STOPPING THE CAR AND WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING SEEMS TO FIX THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY, BUT IT CAN REOCCUR AT ANY TIME. I HAVE COUNTED IT OCCURRING 12 TIMES DRIVING 3/4 MILE AT SPEEDS OF 25 MILES PER HOUR. I TYPICALLY EXPERIENCE IT WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. THE CAR HAS 57,000 MILES AND GOES TO THE DEALERSHIP REGULARLY FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE.

THEY SUGGESTED I "OPT FOR THE SPICY TAPE," WHICH THEY CHARGE MORE FOR. I EXPLAINED THAT IF THEY'D LOOKED AT MY ENGINE, THEY'D KNOW I ALREADY HAD THAT TAPE ON THERE! THE SERVICEMAN THEN SHRUGGED AND SAID HE COULDN'T HELP ME. THAT IT COULD HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND THERE WAS "NOTHING" I COULD DO. I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS ON THE RECALL AND CONTACTED MY DEALER (BELLA AUTO INTERNATIONAL, IN PUERTO RICO) TO PROCESS THE RECALL. ACURA, ETC), AND THAT OUR BUDGET BRAND VEHICLES WOULD BE ATTENDED TO LAST. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS TRUE, BUT IT CERTAINLY WARRANTS INVESTIGATION. LASTLY, THE WEEK BEFORE WE HANDED THE CAR TO THE DEALER, WE HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN DUE TO A CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT SOMETHING REGARDING THE FUEL CAP OR VALVE WAS DAMAGED, AND THAT IT REQUIRED A $140 PART TO REPLACE. WE PLACED THE ORDER ON THE PART THAT WEEK. ON 12/31/2013 I PARKED MY HONDA FIT 2012 IN THE PARKING GARAGE OF CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL LOS ANGELES AT 6AM AND LEFT IT THERE WHILE MY LITTLE GIRL HAD SURGERY. WHEN I RETURNED TO IT AT 4:30, I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS WITH THE KEY FOB. THE LIGHT ON THE FOB FLASHED, SO I KNEW IT WASN'T THE PROBLEM. THERE IS ONLY ONE KEYED LOCK ON THE CAR ON THE DRIVER'S HANDLE. I TRIED TO PUT THE KEY INTO THIS MECHANICAL LOCK, BUT IT WOULD ONLY GO HALF-WAY AND WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. I CALLED THE HONDA CARE LINE WHO SENT A TOW TRUCK WHOSE DRIVER TRIED FOR HALF AN HOUR OR SO TO UNLOCK THE DOOR THROUGH THE WINDOW, THEN SAID HE COULDN'T DO IT AND LEFT. I CALLED THE HONDA NUMBER AGAIN; THEY SENT ANOTHER TRUCK WHOSE DRIVER TRIED FOR ANOTHER HALF HOUR OR SO, THEN LEFT. I CALLED MY CAR INSURANCE COMPANY, STATE FARM, WHO SENT A AAA TRUCK WHOSE DRIVER ALSO TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE AIR BLADDER DEVICE IN THE WINDOW, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. AT THAT POINT I ASKED HIM TO BREAK THE SMALL, FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW. HE DID SO, THEN HE WAS ABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR, RAISE THE HOOD AND JUMP THE BATTERY TO START MY CAR. THE HOOD CAN'T BE OPENED EXCEPT BY THE LATCH INSIDE THE CAR. HOW IS IT LEGAL FOR A CAR TO BE BUILT WITHOUT A WAY TO LIFT THE HOOD TO JUMP THE BATTERY? AS LONG AS I COULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR, I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR. THERE IS NO WAY TO GET INTO THE CAR WHEN THE BATTERY IS DEAD. I HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN ANY EXPLANATION ABOUT THIS OR ABOUT WHY THE CAR CAN'T BE OPENED IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE EXTREME WIND SENSITIVITY. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN DRY CONDITIONS, WITH A STRONG WIND HITTING THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE EAST, ALL OF SUDDEN A GUST NEARLY RIPPED THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF HIS HANDS AND IN A SPLIT SECOND, HE FOUND HIMSELF BLOWN INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND HEADED TOWARD THE SHOULDER AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED OVER 60 MPH.
THE SUN VISORS ARE POORLY DESIGNED. IT WORKS WELL IN THE FORWARD POSITION, BUT NOT SO WHEN TURNED TO THE SIDE WINDOW. THE VISOR TILTS UP AT LEAST 30 DEGREES FROM HORIZONTAL, WHEN IT IS TURNED TOWARD THE SIDE WINDOW. THE RESULT IS THE VISOR IS INCHES TOO HIGH TO BLOCK THE SUN. THE VISORS ARE USELESS AT THE SIDE WINDOWS, CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE DRIVER, WHENEVER THE SUN IS ON THE LEFT OF THE CAR. MY WIFE AND I ARE 5' 7" AND 5' 10" WE HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED ANY OTHER CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM IN OUR COMBINED 80+ YEARS OF DRIVING. THE HONDA DEALER CANNOT DO ANYTHING. THE PART WORKS, AS IT WAS DESIGNED. I REPORTED THE MATTER TO HONDA AMERICA TODAY. *TR

COMPUTER KEEPS SAYING TO "CHECK FUEL CAP." EVEN AFTER SEVERAL COMPLETE SHUT OFFS AND TIGHTENING OF THE FUEL CAP, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO HAPPEN. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYDAY, JUST SPORADICALLY. IT ALSO ONLY HAS HAPPENED AFTER PARKING ON A FLAT SURFACE. *TR
AT SUSTAINED HIGHWAYS SPEEDS OF 70-75MPH, WITH THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE ABOVE 87 DEG. F, VEHICLE WHEELS INTERMITTENTLY VEERED, TAKING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE LANE RAPIDLY, AND WITHOUT ANY FEEDBACK ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURRED ON BOTH FRESHLY PAVED INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS AND OLDER PAVEMENT, WITH NO WIND PRESENT. IT OCCURRED SEVERAL HUNDRED TIMES DURING A 2-3 HOUR ROAD TRIP, FORCING A SPEED OF 50MPH FOR SAFETY, DESPITE THE MUCH HIGHER SPEED LIMIT. AT HIGHER SPEEDS IT WOULD OCCUR EVERY 1-2 SECONDS, REQUIRING EXTREME FOCUS AND INSANELY RAPID REFLEXES TO PREVENT A CRASH. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM A WEEK LATER WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COOLER. IT RECURRED WHEN THE HEAT WAVE RETURNED, AND SOMETIMES SHOWS UP AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 45MPH. SIMULTANEOUSLY OCCURRING SYMPTOMS: * THE STEERING BECOMES MUCH LOOSER, GOING FROM A SENSITIVITY OF 1/4" ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO REQUIRING A FULL INCH OF MOVEMENT TO AFFECT THE WHEELS WHATSOEVER. * EVER 20 SECONDS, A 'AFRICAN RAIN-STICK' LIKE SOUND OCCURS FROM THE DASH AIR VENTS, AND LASTS 3-4 SECONDS. *TR
THIS WAS THE FIRST OF TWO INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. BOTH TIMES PARKING THE CAR AND GIVING IT A LITTLE GAS TO EASE INTO A SPACE THE CAR TOOK OFF AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED; THE FIRST TIME, ALMOST CRASHING INTO MY GARAGE DOOR AND THE SECOND TIME JUMPING A SIDEWALK AND ALMOST HITTING A METAL HAND RAIL. I TOOK IT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG, AND SAID I MUST HAVE HIT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR AT SAME TIME. HOWEVER, SINCE MY FOOT IS TOO SMALL TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT, AND I WAS DRIVING BAREFOOT AT THE TIME, I AM POSITIVE THAT WAS NOT WHAT HAPPENED. AFTER RECEIVING CAR BACK, I CHECKED AND WAS UNABLE TO PLACE MY FOOT ON BOTH PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE IS NON-LINEAR, IE WHEN IT SAYS YOU HAVE A HALF OF A TANK, YOU REALLY ONLY HAVE 1/8 OR 1/4. SEEMS SILLY IN THIS DAY AND AGE OF COMPUTER CONTROLLED STUFF I HAVE TO REMEMBER I REALLY DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH FUEL AND I COULD EASILY GET STRANDED. *JS

MY CAR ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR WHEN STARTING FROM A STANDSTILL WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVEN TIMES IN THE 1300 MILES I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR. THIS ABNORMAL CONDITION HAS LEFT ME MOMENTARILY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTIONS. I FIND THAT IF I AM STEERING STRAIGHT AHEAD, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MALFUNCTION BUT WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO RESPOND, EVENTUALLY. HONDA SHOULD ADDRESS THIS SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION.

Honda is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport vehicles manufactured from May 23, 2011, through March 22, 2013, and model year 2012-2013 Honda Fit base vehicles manufactured from June 27, 2011, through April 19, 2013. In April 2013, Honda recalled 43,782 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport vehicles. In July 2013, Honda informed the agency that it was adding model year 2012-2013 Honda Fit vehicles in base trim to the recall campaign, representing an additional 48,138 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 91,920. The electronic stability control system of the affected vehicles may allow excessive yaw rates at high steering angles with certain tires. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Vehicle Motor Safety Standard No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."

Lastly, Honda is recalling certain 2010-2013 Acura TSX and ZDX, Honda Crosstour, Fit, Insight and Pilot, 2011-2013 TSX Wagon, 2010-2012 Honda Accord and 2010-2011 Honda Civic NGV, Civic, Civic Hybrid and CR-V vehicles in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag air bag inflators assembled as part of the frontal air bag modules, and used as original equipment or replacement equipment (such as after a vehicle crash necessitating replacement of the original air bags), may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to higher absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
