WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY, IT WILL JERK FORWARD AND THEN SHORTLY AFTER LOSE POWER. THE CAR SHOWS THE BATTERY AS BEING BARELY CHARGED. I PULL OVER (LUCKILY HAVEN'T BEEN KILLED YET) ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. LET THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, RESTART IT AND THE BATTERY IS HALF FULL AND THE CAR IS DRIVEABLE. I'VE READ ONLINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRIDS. I'VE TAKEN MY CAR TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TWICE, AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, DIAGNOSTICS SHOW ITS FINE. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY LOCATED IN MY TRUNK FOR $485. THAT DID NOTHING, AS THE CAR IS STILL RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF, AND MOST TIMES IN THE MOST DANGEROUS AREAS OF THE ROAD. I DON'T THINK HYUNDAI WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS UNTIL NUMEROUS PEOPLE ARE KILLED. FORGOT TO MENTION THAT SOMETIMES WHEN IT SHUTS DOWN THE CHECK OIL LIGHT COMES ON. I'VE HAD THE OIL REPLACED AND THE OIL SENSOR, SO THATS NOT THE ISSUE.
CAR GETS VERY WOBBLY WHEN GOING 79 MPH.. I CAN HEAR A RATTLING IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN I GO OVER A BUMP. STEERING WHEEL IS LOOSE AND DOESN'T ALWAYS ENGAGE RIGHT AWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE THE GEAR WAS IN PARK WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE CAUTIONED TO MOVE. ONCE THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON, THE PARK WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. RIVERSIDE HYUNDAI (8001 AUTO DR, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504, (951) 643-5065) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER SINCE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,225.
THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL SIGNIFICANTLY DIM FOR NO APPARENT REASON TO THE POINT YOU CAN NOT EVEN READ THE TIME ON THE CLOCK. SOMETIMES IF YOU HIT THE TURN SIGNAL THEY WILL FLICKER TO REGULAR BRIGHTNESS. ASL IF I HIT A SOEED BUMP OR POT HOLE THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLICKER OFF/THEN BACK ON. THIS HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS OR HIGHWAYS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND AN ALARM NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TAYLOR HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 3233 WASHINGTON RD, AGUATA, GA 30907, (706) 868-1200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THIRD ROD IN THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STILL REMAINED AT THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RICK CASE HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 3180 SATELLITE BLVD NW, DULUTH, GA 30096, (678) 321-1584) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HYBRIDS WERE SUPPOSED TO OPERATE IN THAT MANNER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 15688279. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
WARNING CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM DO NOT DRIVE STOP SAFETY ISSUE
ENGINE FAILED ME WHILE DRIVING AT THE RATE OF SPEED 65 MILES PER HOUR ON HIGHWAY 20 RETURNING FROM MY MYRTLE BEACH VACATION WITH ME CHILDREN AND GIRLFRIEND WITH. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THE CAR JUST STARTED DECELERATING AS I WAS TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR. I HAD TO THINK QUICK AS THERE WHERE SEMI TRACTORS BEHIND ME I THREW ON MY HAZARDS AND WAS ABLE TO GIVE SIGNAL THAT I WAS IN DISTRESS ALLOWING OTHER TRAVELERS TO TAKE HEED. I THEN STARTED MOVING INTO THE LEFT LANE SO THAT I COULD EXIT THE HIGHWAY THE CAR AT THIS POINT WAS JUST COASTING AND COASTED INTO A GAS STATION WHERE I AWAITED ROAD SIDE TOWING. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS HERE ON NHTSA OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS WHEN WILL THE CONSUMERS BE PROTECTED AGAINST HUGE MANUFACTURERS WE DO ALL THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO AS FAR AS MAINTAINING OUR INVESTMENT AND THEN THEY TRY TO STICK THE CONSUMER WITH THE BILL IN WHICH THEY ARE WILL AWARE OF HAD BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH DEFECTS. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI PRODUCT AGAIN IN LIFE AND I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO MAKE SURE NO ONE I KNOW DOES EITHER. FOR THEM NOT DO WHATS RIGHT BY YOUR CUSTOMERS WILL IN THE END COST THEM WAY MORE. MY VEHICLE CAME WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY ARE ALSO TRYING TO GET OUT OF REPLACING THE FAULTY ENGINE EITHER WAY CONSUMERS THINK THERE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT MAINTENANCE AND WARRANTY AND STILL SOME HOW THE BIG GUYS GET OFF THE HOOK OF HONORING THERE END OF THE DEAL. ITS VERY DISHEARTENING TO SAY THE LEAST. I HAVE PROVIDE A VERY IN DEPTH LETTER TO WHAT WORK HAS BEEN DONE ON MY VEHICLE AND IF YOU NEED TO I AM SURE THAT ALL MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS CAN BE RETRIEVED FROM CARFAX. PLEASE PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT OTHER MEASURES I CAN TAKE
SUDDENLY GAVE WARNING WHILE DRIVING NOT DRIVE HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE. PLEASE CALL ME AT [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
ENGINE FIRE, NON COLLISION. JUST DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL ENGINE QUIT RUNNING. LOST POWER AND ENGINE BECAME EXTREMELY HOT. HAD TO TOW TO MECHANIC WHO SAID ENGINE MIGHT HAVE CAUGHT FIRE AND I WOULD NEED NEW ENGINE.
2 MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. ONE IS A BRAKE ISSUE AND ONE IS TRANSMISSION ISSUE I DO HAVE APPROXIMATELY 160K ON THE CAR NOW. THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE GOES BACK TO WHEN THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 40 TO 50 K ON IT AND WAS TAKEN TO DEALER BECAUSE OF SEVERE BANGING FROM ONE GEAR TO ANOTHER.. PERIODICALLY IT HAS DONE THIS SINCE THEN..DEALER COULD NOT GET IT TO DO IT.. AND SAID IT COULD BE NORMAL.. CAR IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND NOW NEEDS TRANSMISSION..BRAKES HAVE DONE WIERD THINGS. ONCE NEEDED TOWING BECAUSE OF ZERO BRAKES, FULL HARD PEDAL, NO BRAKE LIGHT ON OR ANY KIND OF WARNING..LUCKILY I WAS IN A SLOW DRIVE THRU.. TOWED AND PARKED CAR..2 DAYS LATER ..EVERYTHING IS GOOD..BIZARR AT THE LEAST IF NOT ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS.
ENGINE BLEW A ROD SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR AND HEARD A LOUD CLICKING SOUND THAT RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS UNTIL AFTER THE ENGINE SEIZED. LEFT US STRANDED AND IN DANGER. ENGINE REGULARLY MAINTAINED AND NO WARNING INDICATORS OR REASON TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT PRIOR TO THE EVENT. TOWED BACK TO MECHANIC WHERE HE EXPLAINED THE ENGINE ROD HAD BLOWN AND DAMAGED THE ENGINE AND WOULD REQUIRE A COMPLETELY NEW ENGINE AS A RESULT. IT'S A HYBRID AND DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL AS OF NOW BUT IT'S THE EXACT SAME SITUATION AS THE NON HYBRID VERSIONS.I ONLY FOUND OUT FROM THE MECHANIC THAT THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA ENGINES.
YESTERDAY THE CAR DROVE FINE UNTILL ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE I WENT HOME. THEN IT STARTED WITH THE BUMPING/JERKING WHEN SWITCHING FROM ELECTRIC TO GAS. WORSE THAN IT HAS EVER BEEN. THEN THE REVVING STARTED, MORE THAN USUAL, AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. THEN IT WAS LIKE THE THROTTLE STUCK. GOT THE REVVING NOICE, BUT THE ECO WASN'T BURRIED AT RED, FOR ABOUT 1/4 MILE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO A PARKING LOT. SHUT OFF THE CAR. RESTARTED AND DROVE 1 MILE TO HOME. REVVED A FEW TIMES IN THAT PERIOD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND WAIT A MOMENT FOR THE VEHICLE TO REGAIN NORMAL FUNCTION. THE HYBRID EMERGENCY BRAKE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO COCONUT CREEK AUTOMALL (4950-4980 FL-7, COCONUT CREEK, FL 33073, (866) 847-2753) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC MODULE WAS REPLACED. OTHER PARTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW THE EXACT NAMES OF THE PARTS. THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,451.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY REV VERY HIGH IT STARTED ABOUT 3 WEEKA AGO WHILE DRIVING AT AROUND AN AVERAGE OF 45MPH IN CITY. IT WAS INITIALLY JUST REVVING 3-4 TIMES UNTIL I HIT THE BREAK AND IT WAS ISOLATED TO ONE INCIDENT PER DRIVE. BUT LAST NIGHT AFTER DRIVING ON I-25 AT HIGHWAY SPEED I TURNED TO A SLOWER BUSY STREET MORE STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR STARTED REVVING AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME IT DID NOT STOP AFTER ONE INCIDENT. AS SOON AS I HIT THE ACCELERATOR IT WENT INTO A REVVING FIT. AND DIDNT STOP I COULDN'T EVEN DRIVE IT BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET IT TO ACCELERATE. I TRIED TURNING OFF BLUE DRIVE AND TRIED SHIFTING DOWN TO 1ST GEAR SO I COULD AT LEAST MAKE IT AT 10-15MPH BUT IT REVVED UP EVEN IN MANUAL GEAR. I HAD TO PARK IT FOR THE NIGHT IN A PRETTY SKETCHY NEIGHBORHOOD AND CALL AN UBER. THE SYSTEM DIDN'T POPULATE ANY CODES AND NO SERVICE LIGHTS CAME ON. THEN, THIS MORNING WHEN I WENT BACK TO GET THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND IT WAS ACCELERATING FINE THOUGH IT WAS SLUGGISH. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT 2.5 MILES TO A MECHANIC WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT STILL NO SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT.
THE CAR BEGAN LURCHING FORWARD INTERMITTENTLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (65+ MPH) WHEN TRAVELLING IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON A FLAT HIGHWAY ON DAY 1, AFTER 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING. ON DAY 2, THE CAR FAILED TO SHIFT GEARS AT LOW SPEEDS (<40 MPH) WHILE DECELERATING DOWNHILL ON A CITY STREET, AFTER RUNNING NORMALLY FOR 30 MINUTES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT COASTED SLIGHTLY UPHILL IN FIRST GEAR TO THE DESTINATION ON A CITY STREET, UNABLE TO ACCELERATE FROM 5MPH. IT WAS TOWED ($88) TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT FAILED A ROAD TEST, AND THE TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD. A NEW TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WERE INSTALLED AND THE ENGINE (ODO 131,000+) FAILED TO TURN OVER. $650 IN LABOR TO DIAGNOSE AND ATTEMPT REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. REPAIRS WERE ESTIMATED AT $8,100 AND THE KBB VALUE WAS LESS THAN $3,200. THE CAR IS OTHERWISE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND IS BEING SOLD TO A JUNK YARD WITH NEW TIRES UNDER IT.
WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS (50-60MPH), THE "ECO GUAGE" REVS UP BUT THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE - SLOWS DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP FLICKERS ON AND OFF AS WELL. AFTER THE CAR IS STOPPED AND TURNED OFF, THE CAR FUNCTIONS NORMALLY. MECHANICS ARE UNABLE TO RETRIEVE ANY CODES FROM THE SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS INTERMITTANTLY DROPPED INTO THIS MODE AT LEAST 10 TIMES SINCE WE FIRST EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM IN JULY 2018. THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT FREEWAY SPEEDS CAUSING THE CAR TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE IN FAST MOVING TRAFFIC WITH NO ADVANCE WARNINGS. THIS SITUATION REQUIRES IMMEDIATE EVASIVE ACTION TO REMOVE THE CAR FROM HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC LANES SO IT CAN BE SHUT DOWN AND TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. MY WIFE AND I CONSIDER THIS A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION AS IT HAS OCCURRED IN PLACES SUCH AS THE BAY BRIDGE (WITH NO SHOULDER) AND A LENGTHY UNDERWATER TUNNEL (AGAIN WITH NO SHOULDER). WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER SERVICE SHOP FOUR TIMES. THEY HAVE REPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND HAVE TRIED VARIOUS REPAIRS - REPLACE TRANSMISSION OIL PUMP, REPLACE INHIBITOR SWITCH, INSTALL NEW AUXILLIARY BATTERY, AND - FINALLY - REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. EVEN AFTER THE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, THE CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE THE MECHANIC WAS TEST DRIVING IT AND PROVIDED A CODE TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE MECHANICS STILL ARE NOT CERTAIN THEY HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. IT APPEARS AS IF HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THEIR TECHNICAL SUPPORT STAFF HAVE A PROTOCOL FOR REPAIRING THE CAR. GIVEN THE INTERMITTANT NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, THE FACT THAT IT OCCURS AT HIGH SPEEDS, AND THE POTENTIAL DANGER OF HAVING YOUR CAR RAPIDLY DECELERATE ON BUSY FREEWAYS, I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY HYUNDAI. ATTACHED IS THE ORIGINAL SERVICE RECORD THAT DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM (DATE 8/6/18). THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS 11/27/18.
THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON A DAILY BASIS FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 4 MONTHS, SOME DAYS ARE WORSE THAN OTHERS. SEEMS LIKE THE TRANS COMPUTER CANNOT MAKE UP ITS MIND TO ENGAGE OR DISENGAGE AND CREATE A 'POWER LOSS' OR ACCELERATION LOSS. THE CAR THEN BUCKS AND CLUNKS FOR A FEW SECONDS UNTIL IT FIGURES OUT WHAT ITS GOING TO DO. HAPPENS IN LOW ENGINE TEMPS, CAR HAS NOT REACHED 1/2 WAY TEMP FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, ALWAYS RUNS 1, 2, OR 3 BARS FROM COLD, REPLACED THERMOSTAT, RADIATOR FAN STOPPED WORKING AND REPLACED THAT. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL OVER REV AND THEN CATCH MAKING THE CAR LURCH FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THIS HAPPENS USUALLY AT STOP SIGNS OR STOP LIGHTS, BUT THE RPM HAVE BEEN BURIED AT HIGH WHILE DRIVING THEN DROPS RAPIDLY.
AFTER I EXITED THE FREEWAY WHILE TRAVELING TO MY MOTHERS ON THANKSGIVING DAY I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT TO TURN LEFT ONTO A STREET AND WHEN I TRIED TO GO THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE I HAD TO PUSH THE GAS PEDDLE ALL THE WAY DOWN AND WHEN IT FINALLY WENT IT JUMPED/JERKED REALLY BAD WHICH ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND AFTER THAT IT WAS GOING REALLY SLOW. 2 DAYS PRIOR THE CAR WAS LAGGING WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO BREAK SEEMED LIKE THE SYSTEM WASN'T READING THAT I WANT TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP WHICH AGAIN ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THIS CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I ONLY HAVE 61,000 MILES AND I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 9 MONTHS. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND THE CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG.
TAKATA RECALL: I HAVE A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA 2.0T SE AND MY CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING AND WOULD NOT START BACK. NOW MY EPS, OIL, MIL, BATTERY LIGHT ATE ON AND CAR WILL NOT CRANK. I WAS DRIVING UP TROY HIGHWAY IN MONTGOMERY AL WHEN MY CAR BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AND CUT OFF. IT DID MAKE A CLUNK NOISE BEFORE IT SHUT OFF.. THERE WASN'T ANY FIRE BUT ENGINE WILL NOT START AND JUST HAD OIL CHANGE ON FRIDAY.
WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE CHECK BRAKE WARNING STARTED GOING OFF. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE WHOLE SYSTEM OF THE CAR SHUT DOWN. MY HYDRAULIC UNIT FAILED AND THEY WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. THANK GOD I WASN'T DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

MY CAR LOOSES ACCELERATION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WAY ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAY. IT HAPPENS FIR MULTIPLE TIMES.
ENGINE SHOOK AND ENGINE SEIZED ON A BUSY 65 MPH HIGHWAY. . WARNING LIGHT CAME ON TO PULL OVER AND NOT DRIVE. CAR WAS TOWED TO NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER. HAS BEEN AT SERVICE DEPT AWAITING A NEW ENGINE FOR 3 MONTHS. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF AN ENGINE RECALL, YET HYUNDAI ALWAYS CLAIMS IN MEDIA REPORTS THAT THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THIS VEHICLE IS A HYBRID AND HYUNDAI NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS AS WELL, BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE!
FIRST INCIDENT, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2018. WHILE DRIVING, CAR SUDDENLY FLASHED WARNING LIGHTS, WITH MESSAGE PERTAINING TO THE BATTERY. CAR DECELERATED EXTREMELY RAPIDLY AND BECAME HARDER TO STEER. PULLED CAR OVER OUT OF STREET AS IT LOST POWER. IT STOPPED. LIGHTS REMAINED ON. TURNED CAR OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. IT CRANKED UP AND COULD BE DRIVEN AS IF THE INCIDENT NEVER HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR WARNING MESSAGE WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. SECOND INCIDENT, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2018. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER AGAIN, THE WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED AGAIN, AND AGAIN IT BECAME HARD TO STEER. THIS TIME DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER; IT STOPPED IN THE STREET. DRIVER TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND DROVE TO THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT REGISTER ANY CODE THAT THEY COULD DETECT. THEY HAD A TECHNICIAN DRIVE IT FROM WORK TO HOME EACH DAY AND THE VEHICLE NEVER GAVE ANY PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM AT ALL WITH THE VEHICLE THAT REQUIRED SERVICE OR REPAIR. VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2018. THE DEALERSHIP WAIVED THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE SINCE THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSIS A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TRADED-IN. THE ISSUE WAS REPORTED TO HYUNDAI MOTOR CORPORATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED AND THE "HYBRID PULL OVER SOON" WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO BE COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYBRID BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER (DICKSMITH HYUNDAI, 781 CONGAREE RD, GREENVILLE, SC 29607) INDICATED THAT THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM ANY RECALL CAMPAIGNS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AUTONATION HYUNDAI MALL OF GEORGIA (LOCATED AT 3445 BUFORD DR, BUFORD, GA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPRESSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATIONS FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V137000 (AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS) AND 17V617000 (SEAT BELTS). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER (CENTRAL VALLEY HYUNDAI, 4620 MCHENRY AVENUE, MODESTO, CA 95356) CONFIRMED PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, IT JERKED AND AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR END. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THEN ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
VEHICLE HAD JUST TURNED OFF HIGHWAY ONTO A MAIN ROAD AND THERE WAS A SOUND LIKE A TIRE GOING OUT. WE PULLED OVER AND EXITED VEHICLE AND THE TIRE WAS SLANTED ON A DIAGONAL. THERE HAPPENED TO BE A MECHANIC RIGHT THERE SO HE WALKED OVER AND LOOKED AT IT AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE SUBFRAME. CAR COMPLETELY UN-DRIVABLE. WE WERE TOWED AND HAD THE SUBFRAME REPLACED.
I STARTED TO HAVE ENGINE PROBLEMS AROUND NOVEMBER 2017. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT IT WAS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE. THEY JUST DISMISSED ME ONLY TELLING ME THE WARRANTY WAS OUT. MY CAR WAS 3 PAYMENTS AWAY FROM BEING PAY OFF AND THE DEALER WANTED $11,000 (ELEVEN THOUSAND) TO FIX IT. I HAVE TO ENDED UP BUYING A NEW ONE SINCE I COULDN'T COME UP WITH THAT KIND OF MONEY. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO NOW, AFTER 6-7 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE NEW CAR? I FELT THE DEALER AND THE COMPANY WAS VERY TRICKY......WHEN I NOTICED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR I WAS DRIVING ON A STREET, HAD TO STOP AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT WAS A BIG NOISE LIKE SOMETHING WAS INSIDE THE ENGINE. THANK YOU
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WENT INTO HYBRID MODE AND ONLY TRAVELED 5 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE HYBRID BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HUFFINES HYUNDAI PLANO (909 COIT ROAD, PLANO, TX 75075, 469-685-1543) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,207.
UPON OBTAINING MY STATE INSPECTION A COUPLE WEEKS AGO AROUND 60K MILES, MY MECHANIC POINTED OUT A SLIGHT "THUNK" WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND SAID TO CHECK FOR RECALLS. SINCE THEN IT HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE NOTICEABLE. IT "THUNKS" OR CLICKS JUST TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT OF CENTER. FIRST I ONLY NOTICED IT WHEN PARKED, NOW I NOTICE IT WHEN DRIVING AND THE STEERING COLUMN RATTLES VERY LOUD WHEN I GO OVER EVEN A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT IS GETTING WORSE AND TRYING TO GET AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I SEE WHERE THIS WAS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 MODEL AND NOW IS STARTING WITH THE 2012 AROUND SIMILAR MILEAGE. CLICKING AND RATTLING NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN, NOT ONLY WHILE TURNING, BUT SMALL BUMPS WILL MAKE IT RATTLE. HOPE HYUNDAI ISSUES A RECALL SOON!!!
ENGINE STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WHILE DRIVING 70-75 MPH. SHORTLY THERE AFTER THE ENGINE STOPPED AND SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE HOOD. TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THAT SAID THE PISTON BROKE AND WENT THROUGH THE FIREWALL.
18V137000 IS STILL PENDING A SOLUTION AND IT'S BEEN SINCE FEB. AND APRIL SINCE THE RECALL CAME INTO EFFECT. GIVEN THE SAFETY NATURE OF THIS RECALL AND POSSIBLE DISARMING OF AIRBAGS (A CRITICAL SAFETY FEATURE). I'M CONCERNED THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A REMEDY ANNOUNCED FROM HYUNDAI.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SOUTHTOWNE HYUNDAI (7665 US HWY 85, RIVERDALE, GA 30274, (770) 471-1000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 55MPH THE ENGINE WAS TICKING AND MADE A LARGE BANG SOUND AND STOPPED GETTING ANY POWER. I WAS NOT BRAKING OR TURNING IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. I HAD SEVERAL VEHICLES BEHIND ME WHEN THIS HAPPENED ONCE I GOT THE CAR PULLED OFF THE ROAD IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. NOW IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. LIGHTS ON IN CAR ARE ENGINE LIGHT AND LOW BATTERY LIGHT FOR HYBRID. WHEN TRYING TO START IT DINGS LOUDLY AND YOU CAN HEAR THE HYBRID BATTERY TRY TO START BUT ENGINE WILL NOT EVEN ROLL OVER AT ALL. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THE STEERING COLUMN CLICKS WHEN TURNED BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CAR RATTLES LOUDLY WHEN YOU DRIVE OVER COVERED MAN HOLE COVERS, BUMPS, OR ANYTHING THAT'S NOT LEVEL PAVEMENT. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE WHEEL BEARING BUT MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE CAR YESTERDAY AND ADVISED IT IS THE STEERING COLUMN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE THAT WAS STRUCK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS BENT AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE'S BODY DAMAGES WERE REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS WERE NOT SERVICED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE MY BREAK LIGHTS 8 TIMES SINCE JANUARY. BOTH MY REAR LEFT AND RIGHT BRAKE LAMPS KEEP BURNING OUT CONSTANTLY, EVEN THOUGH I'VE REPLACED THE BULBS MANY TIMES. I HAVE NOW RECEIVED 2 WARNINGS ABOUT IT. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO HYUNDAI AND AFTER A LOT OF FRUSTRATION THEY DO A TEMPORARY FIX THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS IS HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AS BRAKE LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW, AND IF THEY AREN'T WORKING PROPERLY, THEY POSE A HUGE RISK TO DRIVER AND THOSE AROUND. OTHER SONATAS ARE ON RECALL FOR THIS BUT I AM BEING TOLD MY VIN DOES NOT QUALIFY. IN ADDITIONS I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH MY STEERING COUPLER. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS SINCE 96K MILES ON THE CAR AND AGAIN MY VIN IS NOT COVERED AND THEY WANT 500 TO FIX A $4.00 PART.
VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WENT UP WITH NO PRIOR ISSUES. REGULAR SONATA 2012 ENGINES HAVE HAD RECALL ON TRANSMISSION - WHY NOT HYBRIDS AS THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY AND ONCE IN TRAFFIC HAD ISSUES LIKE GOING BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR.
IN SEPTEMBER 2015 THE TRANS. WAS REPLACED IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS KEPT FOR 1 WEEK FOR REPAIRS.I REPLACED A BATTERY 12/13/2016, AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE AT LEAST 12 BATTERY PROBLEMS. THE RADIO WILL GO OUT, AND WITHIN A WEEK TO 2 THE BATTERY IS DEAD, RESULTING IN MY INSURANCE COMPANY COMING OUT TO START MY CAR. ON MAY 1, 2017, I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THEY RECOMMENDED TRYING TO REPLACE THE RADIO,BUT WERE NOT SURE IT WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. A RADIO WAS PURCHASED/REPLACED 8/2/17,AND THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED. BELOW ARE THE DATES OF OCCURRENCES: 9/14/15-TRANSMISSION- CAR WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY DEAD BATTERY: 1/22/16 7/30/16 10/2/16 10/13/16 12/11/16 4/30/17 7/30/17 10/16/17 1/2/18 4/18/18 I HAVE A COPY OF ALL CLAIM FORMS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OR MAKING A TURN, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPUTTER AND THEN STALL WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD, AND THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (BOB BRADY AUTO MALL, 4025 E BOYD RD, DECATUR, IL 62521, (217) 876-3800) WHERE IT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD BE THE WASTEGATE ACTUATOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THEIR RESPONSE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND I-405 NEAR RENTON, WASHINGTON AROUND 7:30 A.M. MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. MESSAGE FLASHED ON "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE" AT 80,725 MILES. DROVE TO HYUNDAI DEALER 4 MINUTES AWAY WHO READ CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ERROR CODE DIAGNOSING PROBLEM AS HPCU RESERVOIR MODULE FAILURE. HYUNDAI DEALER REPLACED PART UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AT NO COST TO ME. COST OF MODULE WAS $3,527.45 PLUS $135 FOR 1 HR LABOR.
STEERING WHEEL MAKE CLICKING, THUMPING SOUND AND FEELS WOBBLY WHEN STEERING. INDEPENDENT GARAGE FOUND STEERING COUPLING ASSEMBLY AT FAULT DURING A OIL CHANGE AND REPLACED THE PARTS ON 11/19/26. REPLACE AT A COST OF OVER $500. UNIT WAS REPLACE AND THE SYMPTOMS ARE BACK AGAIN. THIS LOOKS LIKE A DESIGN ISSUE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT NORMAL SPEED, A SUDDEN AND CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING OR PREVIOUS ENGINE TROUBLE. SUDDENLY A WARNING SOUNDED AND DISPLAYED, "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING, STOP IMMEDIATELY, DO NOT DRIVE". CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND GAS ENGINE WAS "LOCKED UP". THIS OCCURRED SUDDENLY AND CREATED A SEVERE DANGER TO THE OPERATOR (MY WIFE) AS SHE IN THE CENTER LANE OF 3 DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS SUDDEN ENGINE FAILURE WAS VERY SIMILAR TO THOSE DESCRIBED AS COVERED IN THE 2011-2014 SAFETY RECALL INVOLVING THE 2.4L ENGINES IN THE BASE SONATAS AND THAT IS THE ENGINE IN MY CAR (WITH THE ADDITIONAL HYBRID ELECTRIC MOTOR). I HAVE REACHED OUT TO HYUNDAI FOR ASSISTANCE AND THEY HAVE REFUSED SITING THE WARRANTY LIMIT OF 100,000 MILES. WE HAVE 109,123 ON THE CAR. I AM REQUESTING THAT THE RECALL ALSO BE APPLIED TO THE HYBRID MODELS. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF DOCUMENTING THE MAINTENANCE HISTORY AND WILL SUPPLEMENT THIS COMPLAINT AS NEEDED.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON SIDE STREET WE HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE. WE HAD OUR CAR TOWED TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED ENGINE ROD FAILURE. CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED WITH OIL CHANGES. OIL AND CLEAN AND FULL WHEN ERROR OCCURRED. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT EVER ALERTED. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO ROMERO HYUNDAI WAS PURCHASED. THEY CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS AND ADVISED TO CALL CUSTOMER CARE AS THE VEHICLE PREVIOUSLY HAD 10 VISITS TO DEALERSHIP FOR OTHER FAILURES. OVER THE LAST MONTH CUSTOMER CARE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO ASSIST.
HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING, CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT GEAR AFTER IT WAS SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE ALSO JERKED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION IT WAS SHIFTED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. NORM REEVES HYUNDAI SUPERSTORE (18900 STUDEBAKER ROAD CERRITOS, CA) WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 107,000.
THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AT A STOPLIGHT MIDWAY THROUGH MY TRIP HOME FROM OUT OF STATE. THE CAR STARTED "CHUGGING" LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING GAS AND HESITATED. SOON AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE HAD TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY AND PULL OFF TO GET IT CHECKED. THE AUTO PARTS STORE CODE READER CAME UP WITH A FUEL PUMP OR FUEL FILTER PROBLEM. WE WERE DIRECTED TO THE CLOSEST AUTO REPAIR SHOP AS OUR CAR WAS UNSAFE TO KEEP DRIVING. WE HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW HIGH PRESSURE FUEL FILTER FOR OUR CAR. $577 FOR PART, TOTAL BILL $734. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS ONLY COVERED FOR 5 YEARS/60 MILES. MY KIDS IS 5 YEARS/3 MONTHS AND 93000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP AND SHOP STATE THEY ARE REPAIRING MORE AND MORE OF THESE. I FEEL THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR.
I LOVED MY HYUNDAI RIGHT UP UNTIL IT DIED ON ME WHILE DRIVING ON I26 TOWARD COLUMBIA SC. $150 TOW TO THE DEALER IN COLUMBIA TO LEARN I HAD ENGINE FAILURE. GIVEN I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT MY DEALER IN ATLANTA BEFORE LEAVING, THIS WAS A TOTAL SHOCK. THE SERVICE ADVISOR (RYAN) LETS ME KNOW THIS HAPPENS BUT THERE IS A RECALL. HYUNDAI WILL TAKE CARE OF ME. ONLY MY CAR ISN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL. NO PROBLEM, HE SAYS, I'LL JUST PUT IN A CLAIM. SINCE YOU HAVE THE EXACT SYMPTOMS AS THE RECALL CARS, WE'VE HAD HYUNDAI FIX THEM VIA A CLAIM. SINCE I HAD 101053 MILES AND THE WARRANTY IS UP AT 100K, HYUNDAI INFORMS ME I AM DENIED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE MAKING AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (FOLSOM LAKE HYUNDAI 12530 AUTO MALL CIR, FOLSOM, CA 95630), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER LOCAL DEALER (ROSEVILLE HYUNDAI 200 N. SUNRISE AVENUE. ROSEVILLE, CA 95661) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE HAD METAL DEBRIS AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
FAILURE TO PERFORM WARRANTY REPAIR. VEHICLE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NO HELP. PLEASE ADVICE. MATTHEW HIGHWAY STALLING AND DASH BOARD LIGHTS, LITHIUM BATTERY REPLACED. CAR TOWED MORE THAN TWICE TO DEALERSHIP AND COSTS FOR TOWING. THANKS
DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHILE RETURNING HOME THE SOUND GOT LOUDER, THEN I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I REGAIN SOME CONTROL AND PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I REALIZED THAT ALL THE OIL LEAKED OUT AND THERE WERE SOME METAL PARTS ON THE ROAD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHEN THEY TOLD ME A ROD FELL THROUGH THE ENGINE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN MY CAR STARTED DRIVING ROUGH. IT MADE SOME LOUD CLICKING SOUNDS AND STARTED TO MISFIRE AND STUTTER. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE OIL WAS EMPTY, BUT I HAD JUST HAD THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE A FEW MONTHS EARLIER AND THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE CHECK ENGINE AND OIL LIGHTS DIDN'T ILLUMINATE. HE DID AN OIL CHANGE AND TUNE UP. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RIDE ROUGH. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC A FEW DAYS LATER AND THE OIL WAS LOW AGAIN. THERE WAS NO OIL LEAK. HE CHECKED EVERYTHING AGAIN AND SAID IT APPEARED THE SPARK PLUGS WERE FAILING. TWO WEEKS LATER I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. I ADDED OIL. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC (I WAS OUT OF TOWN). HE CLEANED THE SPARK PLUGS. FOUR DAYS LATER THE CAR STARTED ACTING REALLY HORRIBLE, MAKING LOUD CLANKING NOISE AND STUTTERING. I ADDED OIL AGAIN AND TOOK IT BACK TO MY ORIGINAL MECHANIC. HE TREATED THE OIL AND ASKED ME TO COME BACK IN A WEEK SO HE COULD MONITOR THE PROBLEM. THE CAR DROVE SMOOTH AND WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM THEN ONE WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING TO THE MECHANIC THE CAR MADE LOUD CLANKING NOISE AND A CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE CAME FROM THE CAR. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE MECHANIC. HE IS LOOKING TO REPLACE MY ENGINE. IN ALL THIS THE INDICATOR LIGHTS NEVER CAME ON (OIL OR CHECK ENGINE).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND THE HYBRID INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER (28432 CAMINO CAPISTRANO LAGUNA NIGEL, CA 92677, PHONE: 855-770-9074) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT METAL FRAGMENTS ENTERED THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V568000 (ENGINE). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
VEHICLE HAS ALREADY HAD THE TRANSMISSION CHANGED OUT UNDER 30K MILES AND HYBRID BATTERY CHANGED UNDER 60K MILES. I KEEP GETTING A HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE NOTICE ON THE DASHBOARD. ONE TIME IT HAPPENED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED ON THE 5FWY IN BURBANK WHILE DRIVING TO SAN FRANCISCO. ANOTHER TIME IT HAPPENED ON A TOLL ROAD IN IRVINE, CA WHERE I HAD TO GET TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE WARNING IS ALARMING AND TELLS YOU NOT TO DRIVE. AFTER THE RECENT HYBRID BATTERY REPLACEMENT I'M GETTING THE HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE WARNING AGAIN AFTER I DRIVE IT FOR A LITTLE BIT AND PUT IT IN PARK. I'VE BEEN GOING TO THE TUSTIN HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN TUSTIN, CA AND THE ISSUE SEEMS DIFFERENT EVERYTIME, BUT I'LL NEVER RECOMMEND A HYUNDAI TO ANYONE ELSE GIVEN THE NUMBER OF FORUMS AND POSTS REGARDING THE 2012-2016 HYBRID SONATAS ENGINE ISSUES.
DRIVING AT APPROX. 60 MPH, CAR MADE TERRIBLE NOISE IN ENGINE BAY AND STALLED ON ON HIGHWAY. CAR WAS TOWED HYUNDAI DEALER, ENGINE SEIZED WITH THE SAME RECALLED PROBLEM AS THE STANDARD SONATA MODELS. HYUNDAI SAID THE HYBRID IS NOT UNDER RECALL AND WILL DO NOTHING!!!! WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP!!
WHILE DRIVING HEARD ENGINE KNOCKING PULLED BACK IN DRIVE WAY AND ENGINE SEZIED.
STEERING IS VERY "LOOSE" AND MAKES ALARMING CLUNKING SOUNDS ON TURNS OR AT SPEEDS ABOVE 60MPH
THIS VEHICLE HAS SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AS WELL AS CONTINUED ACCELERATION AFTER THE FOOT IS COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE PEDAL. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF THE PROBLEM WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM, WHICH HAS BEEN REPORTED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED.
DROVE VEHICLE ON INTERSTATE 405 SOUTHBOUND AT 60 MPH AND ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED THAT THERE WAS A HYBRID SYSTEM FAILURE. SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE. TOWED TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED FROM ERROR CODES THAT THE POWER TRAIN FAILED AT 63K MILES. HYUNDAI HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 3 MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE OIL WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE OIL IN THE VEHICLE NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,278.
"TAKATA RECALL MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID LIMITED IS COMING UP WITH A WARNING SIGNAL "HYBRID SAFETY WARNING DO NOT DRIVE".AND CHECK BRAKETHIS HAS HAPPENED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. TAKEN TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND NO BODY ABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM. THE CAR SOUNDS AN ALARM AND THE MESSAGE COMES UP ON THE DASH ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. "HYBRID BATTERY LOW, SHIFT TO PARK POSITION" WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD RATTLING NOISE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A PISTON ROD BLEW OUT AND THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
MY VEHICLE BLEW A PISTON ROD WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON CRUISE CONTROL DOING 2000 RPM'S. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP ON THE MAINTENANCE WITH THIS CAR BUT WHEN I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY ARE SAYING THAT IT WAS MY FAULT. THEY DO HAVE AN OPEN RECALL ON MY YEAR, MAKE, MODEL AND ENGINE SIZE BUT NOT MY VIN. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH ONLINE AND I HAVE FOUND OTHER CASES LIKE THIS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 69,000 MILES ON IT.
04/20/16 ' MILEAGE 71585 ' CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE MADE LOUD NOISES ' HAD TOWED TO HYUNDAI ' ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WE PURCHASED THE 2012 HYUNDAI SONANTA HYBRID PRE-OWNED VEHICLE MAY 17, 2014 WITH 17128 MILES ON IT. THIS IS THE HISTORY OF OUR 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHTS 05/26/14 ' MILEAGE 54114 ' THE EVAP PURGE VALVE WAS LEAKING. 11/13/15 ' MILEAGE 63071 ' SAID THERE WAS A PAST CODE FOR A MISFIRE AND WAS NO LONGER ACTIVE 12/2/15 ' MILEAGE 64087 ' SPARKPLUGS HAVE CARBON BUILD UP.
A LOUD RATTLE STARTED SOUNDING IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN GOING OVER EVEN SMALL BUMPS. THE STEERING WHEEL HAD EXCESSIVE "PLAY" IN IT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE "STEERING COLUMN FLEXIBLE COUPLING" FREE OF CHARGE. I SAW A SIMILAR COMPLAINT ON THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A NOTICE (RECALL?) ABOUT THIS SINCE IT COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
THIS IS MY SECOND 2012 SONATA HYBRID. THE FIRST ONE HAD SO MANY ENGINE ISSUES THAT HYUNDAI REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER 2012 SONATA HYBRID. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN 5 TIMES.FOR THE SAME ISSUE. AROUND 20MPH THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE THEN IT JERKS FORWARD. I ALMOSY GOT HIT ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT WONT ACCELERATE. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO THE STOP SAFELY DO NOT DRIVE HYBRID WARNING CAME ON AND THR CAR WOULDNT GO. HAD OT TOWED. THEY FOUND CODE P0717. THEY REPLACED INPUT OUTPUT SPEED SENSORS BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES STILL. IT ALSO JERKS WHEN IT CHANGES FROM HYBRID TO GAS. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS. THEY CANNOT SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM. MILEAGE 51000-55000.
CAR HAD 113,000 MILES. MAINTENANCE WAS UP TO DATE. DRIVING FROM AZ TO LAQUINTA, CA. HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE. STOPPED, HECKED OIL, FINE, CAR WAS COOL, NO ENGINE LIGHTS ON. DROVE 4 MORE MILES, NOISE GOT REAL LOUD AND CAR SHUT DOWN ON FREEWAY. COASTED TO SIDE , ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STATED DO NOT DRIVE. CALLED TOW TRUCK. ENGINE WAS SEIZED. DEALER STATED ENGINE WAS FROZEN AND NEEDED A NEW SHORT BLOCK COSTING $8,800 INCLUDING INSTALLATION. ASKED WHY IT FROZE, WHY NO WARNING LIGHTS, THEY SAY THEY DID NOT KNOW. LEFT CAR TO GO LOOK FOR A NEW CAR AND WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL DEALERS AND PEOPLE PRICE TOO HIGH AND OUR CAR HAD A RECALL. CHECKED ON LINE BUT IT SAID OUR CAR WAS NOT RECALLED, BUT YET WE READ THE SAME EXACT DESCRIPTION FOR RECALL 132 THAT OUR CAR HAD DONE. TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY ARE CAR SEIZED UP ((FROZE) WHEN IT WAS MAINTAINED AND ONLY HAD 113,000 MILES. SINCE WE ARE NOT REPAIRING DEALER WANTS CAR REMOVED ASAP SO WE ARE TRYING TO TRADE IT IN TOMORROW AT HONDA DEALER. WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI
WHILE ON CRUISE CONTROL AT 68MPH I WAS GOING DOWN A SMALL HILL & MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FROM 68MPH TO 82MPH AT WHICH POINT I DISENGAGED MY CRUISE CONTROL & THE CAR DECELERATED . I NOTED THE MILEAGE & TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI. THEY FOUND NO ABNORMAL EVENT IN THE COMPUTER LOG.THIS BEGS THE ISSUE THAT I DID HAVE THIS EVENT OCCUR. I HAD THE COMPUTE MICROCODE UPGRADED TO THE LAST REV EARLIER THIS YEAR.
AFTER THE 6TH OR 7TH TIME THE CAR IS STARTED, THERE IS NO RADIO SOUND. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON 5 OR 6 TIMES TO GET THE RADIO TO ENGAGE. THIS HAPPENS REGULARLY, STARTING A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, WHICH WAS BRAND NEW.
WHILE DRIVING IT DOWN THE STREET STARTED TO HESITATE FREQUENTLY WHILE DRIVING THEN HEARD A LOUD CLANKING SOUND WHICH CONTINUED ON WHILE DRIVING IT TO DEALER. DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND WE WERE TOLD THE MOTOR HAD GONE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED! THEY ALSO SAID WE HAD TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE THEY SAID OUR OIL CHANGES WERE NOT APPROVED! ONCE WE GOT THE PAPER WORK BACK THEY QUOTED THEY FOUND OIL BUILD UP AND LARGE CHUNKS OF METAL THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE THAT HAS CONTAMINATED THE VALVE TRAIN. THEY HAD TO REPLACE ENGINE, CYLINDER HEAD, VALVE, VALVE SPRING, CAMSHAFTS ,GASKETS! NOW THEY ARE ISSUING A RECALL ON HYUNDAI SONATAS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM , BUT THEY ARE ALSO SAYING OUR CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH WHAT THEY FIXED IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT IS LISTED ON THE RECALL. IT TOOK THEM ALMOST 2 MONTHS TO HAVE OUR CAR IN THE SHOP BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE ENGINE!!!!
TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO I LEASED A SONATA HYBRID FROM BROADWAY AUTOMOTIVE IN GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN. I LEASED THE CAR TO INCLUDE 18,000 MILES PER YEAR FOR A TOTAL OF 3 YEARS, I.E. 54,000 TOTAL MILES. I WAS NEVER TOLD BY THE SALES PERSON OR THE SALES MANAGER THAT THE TIRES ON THE CAR WERE NOT MEANT FOR WISCONSIN WINTERS OR THAT THEY ONLY HAD A 30,000 MILE LIFE OR THAT THEY WERE MEANT FOR THE CALIFORNIA CLIMATE. THIS CAR HANDLES TERRIBLY IN THE WINTER MONTHS, SLIPPING WITH LITTLE TRACTION WHENEVER THERE IS SNOW ON THE ROADS. I WAS RECENTLY TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TIRES BEFORE THE END OF MY LEASE. BEING LEASED A VEHICLE BY A DEALERSHIP THAT KNEW THAT THE TIRES ON IT WERE INFERIOR FOR THE AMOUNT OF MILES I WAS GOING TO BE PUTTING ON THE VEHICLE IS JUST PLAIN DISHONEST AND IN THIS CASE DANGEROUS. THE TIRES PUT ON A VEHICLE SHOULD MATCH THE CLIMATE THE CAR IS SOLD IN. IN ADDITION, THE TIRES OF A LEASED VEHICLE SHOULD EQUAL OR EXCEED THE LEASE MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE, THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING 15-20 MPH, A CHIME SOUNDED AND THE 'SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE' WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL PUMP OR THE COMPUTER MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURERS RECALL THAT WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,415.
WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND WHEN IT WAS RETURNED TO US, WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT THE STEERING COUPLER WAS DEFECTIVE AND IT WOULD BE $250 +TAXES AND FEES TO REPLACE. THERE IS A TSB AND AFTER INVESTIGATION OF SAME ON THE INTERNET THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF FAILURE OF THIS PART AND IT IS A SAFETY RELATED PART AND FAILURE COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. I FEEL THAT A RECALL OF THIS PART SHOULD BE CONSIDERED.
WHEN PUTTING MY CAR IN PARK THE WARNING "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING! SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE" APPEARS. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF AND IMMEDIATELY TRY TO RESTART IT WILL NOT START. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF AND WAIT ABOUT 15 MINUTES IT WILL START WITH NO ALERTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE IT AND TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE MANUAL SAYS NOT TO DRIVE IT AFTER THIS HAPPENS AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I AM NOT SURE WHETHER OR NOT TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT SINCE THEY CANNOT TELL ME WHAT COULD POTENTIALY HAPPEN.
CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT COMES UP, SOME TIMES CANT CHANGE FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE, OTHER TIMES CHANGE PARK TO ANY OTHER GEAR, HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN . THE CAR JUMPS WHEN GETTING OUT OF EV MODE, HESITATES WHEN GOING OUT OF EV MODE, MAKING IT VERY DANGEROUS AT A INTERSECTION AND U TURNS. I FOUND SO MANY COMPLAINS ABOUT THE HYUNDAI HYBRID 2012 , .....SAME PROBLEMS, HOW COME NOBODY DOES ANYTHING ??? *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE HYBRID SAFETY WARNING DO NOT DRIVE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BMS MODULE NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE DURING THE LAST 6 MONTHS. WHILE DRIVING OR STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE VEHICLE HAS SUDDEN UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION. THE ACCELERATION HAPPENS WITH OR WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE GAS. WHEN IN DRIVE, THE DRIVER CAN REMOVE HIS FOOT FROM THE GAS AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE AND PICK UP SPEED. THE CONDITION IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND WARRANTS FURTHER INVESTIGATION. *JS
THE CAR WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND BURST INTO FLAMES, ALL OF THE SONATAS HAVE THIS PROBLEM, ALL SONATAS WILL AT THE LEAST BURN UP THE ENGINES, TRANSMISSIONS, OR BATTERIES DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. OUT OF 35 SONATAS TESTED 35 HAD THIS PROBLEM. CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA, HYUNDAI FULLERTON, HYUNDAI CONSUMER COMPLAINT LINE AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT . EVERY SONATA HYBIRD IN THE WORLD, (TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE) WILL BURN UP THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, OR LITHIUM BATTERIES (WHICH WILL CATCH FIRE) BETWEEN 70,000 &120,000 MILES, HYUNDAI WILL NOT WARRANTY THE FAILURE, THIS IS CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT.. A PART IN THE COOLING SYSTEM WILL DISINTEGRATE AND CRUMBLE APART LIKE A WET COOKIE, THEN YOU WILL HAVE A 3/4" HOSE COMING OFF THE WATER PUMP PUMPING ALL THE WATER OUT OF THE COOLING SYSTEM, WITH LESS THEN A GALLON OF COOLANT THIS WILL TAKE 2 SECONDS, EVERYTHING WILL OVERHEAT AND YOU CAN THROW THAT CAR AWAY, A NEW ENGINE IS $7,000.00 A TRANSMISSION, $6,000.00 LITHIUM BATTERIES $10,000.00 ALL PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE INSTALLATION.. *TR
RECENTLY MY HYBRID SONATA CAR WOULD NOT PICKUP SPEED ESPECIALLY BETWEEN 10 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR. IT WOULD ALSO BADLY JERK WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE OR MAKE HIGH PITCH SOUND WITHOUT PICKING UP SPEED. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD COUPLE OF TIMES AND BIT SCARED IN DRIVING IT. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER AFTER LOOKING AT THE ISSUE AGREED TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH THE REFURBISHED (FROM HYUNDAI) TRANSMISSION :(. *TR
GAS PEDAL ON CAR STICKS AND STAYS IN ACCELERATION INCREASING SPEED. HAVE TO MANUALLY PULL GAS PEDAL BACK UP FROM BEHIND PEDAL. TOOK TO DEALER TO INSPECT SINCE THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE ISSUE DID NOT FIX AND IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY? *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN HIGHWAY 125 WHEN MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT COMPLETELY BURNED TO THE GROUND. WE HAD ABOUT 5 SECONDS TO JUMP OUT OF CAR. ALL 4 OCCUPANTS GOT OUT OF CAR THANK YOU GOD. *TR
BACK UP CAMERA TAKES 10 TO 15 SECONDS BEFORE COMING ON (AVERAGE 12 SECONDS), AUDIO ON RADIO, CD PLAYER AND IPHONE MUSIC GOES OUT OCCASIONALLY, GPS HAS FAILED TO OPERATE ON OCCASION. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE TAKES EXCESSIVELY LONG TIME TO GO FROM 0-25 MPH, SO MUCH SO , THAT WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC IT HAS UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION. AT VARIOUS TIMES I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAVE A 3-5 SECOND DELAY BEFORE GOING FORWARD. WHEN IT FINALLY ACCELERATES SOMETIMES IT HAS A POPPING SOUND AND OFTEN THE CAR LURCHES. I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN 3 TIMES FOR HYUNDAI TO FIND THE PROBLEM BUT EACH AND EVERY TIME THEY HAVE SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. *TR
I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING A HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING, A LURCH WHEN HITTING THE BRAKE AS WELL AS SOMETIMES WHEN ACCELERATING AS THOUGH THE GEARS COULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. THIS DID NOT OCCUR AS OFTEN IF THE CAR WAS OUT OF BLUE DRIVE. THIS HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS. I HAD TAKEN IT TO A DEALER AND CALLED A SERVICE DEPARTMENT BUT NONE OF THEM COULD EXPLAIN WHY IT MIGHT BE HAPPENING AND I COULD NOT MAKE THE ISSUE REPEAT ONCE I GOT IT TO THE DEALER. ON SATURDAY I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR, PULLED OUT AND WAS GOING ABOUT 40 MPH ABOUT 2 MIN AFTER I HAD STARTED THE CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY FOOT WAS TO THE FLOOR, THE RPM WAS ALL THE WAY UP TO RED AND MY CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN! I PULLED OVER TURNED THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN, I PULLED OUT AGAIN AND IT BEGAN TO DO THE SAME THING BUT WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD WORSE THAN EVER BEFORE. I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION CUT THE CAR OFF AND GOT OUT TO LET MY BOYFRIEND TRY IT (HE HAD BEEN FOLLOWING ME IN HIS CAR AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG). WHEN HE GOT IN TO TRY IT HE TRIED TO PUT IT IN REVERSE AND IT WOULD NOT SHIFT AT ALL. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS STILL IN PARK, BUT WHEN HE TRIED TO PUT IT BACK IN PARK THE CAR RESPONDED AS THOUGH HE HAD SHIFTED IT. OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WAS VERY WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WE CALLED THE 24 HOUR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND GOT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THEY MECHANICS SPENT ALL DAY TAKING IT A[ART AND COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE SENIOR MECHANICS CAME IN ON MONDAY AND SAID I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION, THAT THE EXISTING TRANSMISSION WAS "ALL BURNED UP" THEY CLAIM THIS IS A RARE INTERNAL PROBLEM AND THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WILL FIX THE ISSUE. ALL OF THIS WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY BUT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED MAJOR PROBLEMS HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED! *TR
WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED A BEEPING ALARM SOUNDED WITH A WARNING STATING THAT THERE WAS A BRAKE FAILURE. YELLOW TRIANGLE WITH BLACK EXCLAMATION POINT ALSO WARNING ME NOT TO DRIVE. BRAKES HAD SEVERE GRINDING WHEN TRYING TO MOVE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO THE CAR. FIRST TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD THEN THAT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A HYDRAULIC PROBLEM BUT THEN TOLD THAT IT WAS A BAD CONNECTION SOMEWHERE. WAITED APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES AND CAR STARTS WITH OUT A PROBLEM. MY FEAR IS THAT THE BRAKES WILL LOCK OR FAIL WHILE I'M DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. SUDDENLY THERE WAS A LOUD DINNING AND THE PANEL ON THE DASH FLASHED "HYBRID SAFETY WARNING", "BRAKE FAILURE". THE CARE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. I PULLED OFF OF THE EXPRESSWAY AS BEST I COULD. I THEN SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE WARNING WAS GONE. I TOOK SIDE ROADS HOME, BUT THE WARNING DID NOT RETURN. THE TOTAL FAILURE OF ENGINE POWER WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER ON 4/21/14. THEY HAVE NOT RETURNED IT TO ME. AS OF TODAY 4/24/14. *TR
SIMILAR TO NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10546231 - "CHECK BRAKES" ...2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID WILL NOT START OR MOVE (AUG 2013). FROM PARKED POSITION, TURNED ON VEHICLE (STEPPED ON BRAKE AND DEPRESSED ELECTRONIC IGNITION). LOUD CHIMES OCCURRED WITH MESSAGE "CHECK BRAKES". NO BRAKES WERE ON, CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD/REVERSE. CONNECTED TO BLUELINK WHO COULD DETECT "ALERT". CAR TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SAW CODE C1604 IN COMPUTER LOG BUT BY THEN CAR WAS ABLE TO START, COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. DEALER CONTACTED HYUNDAI TECH LINE, ENTERED CASE AND "REPAIRED" BY PERFORMING MULTI-ECV UPDATES VERSION #2 PER TSB#13FL004; RECALIBRATED RWOLVER AND EC PRESSURE. IT'S NOW 8-MONTHS LATER (APR 2014) AND THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IS OCCURRING AGAIN. *TT

THE WARNING SIGNAL "HYBRID SAFETY WARNING DO NOT DRIVE" APPEARED AND I COULD NOT MOVE MY CAR. THE DAY BEFORE I DROVE MY CAR WITH NO PROBLEM AND THEN WHEN I WAS ABOUT TO DRIVE THIS MORNING I RECEIVED THIS WARNING. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP SO THEY CAN RUN DIAGNOSTICS. FROM READING OTHER COMPLAINTS, IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER SONATA HYBRIDS. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE LITHIUM BATTERY AND NOT SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR A YEAR AND IT MIGHT BE TIME TO LOOK FOR A NEW ONE. *JS
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 79 IN PENNSYLVANIA NEAR THE WEXFORD EXIT. IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 8:15AM. NO ONE ELSE WAS AROUND ME AND THE SUNROOF ON MY VEHICLE EXPLODED. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN DESCRIBE IT. NOTHING HIT IT, NO ROCK, NOTHING FROM AN OVERPASS NOTHING. I WAS IN THE OPEN AND NO VEHICLE WAS IN FRONT OF ME OR BEHIND ME. IT WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING. THE NOISE IT MADE WAS THE LOUDEST NOISE I HAD EVER HEARD. I DID RESEARCH ON THIS HAPPENING BEFORE AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED TO OTHER DRIVERS WITH THE SAME CAR. I HAVEN'T FOUND ANY RECALLS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE CARE ANY LONGER. *TR
SLOWLY ACCELERATING UP A SMALL HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 5 MPH. BEGAN TO BREAK AT TOP OF HILL WHICH IS AT THE EXIT OF A VERY BUSY ROAD. SUDDENLY CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS OR ON CRUISE. I HAD FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAD TO BREAK HARDER TO AVOID BEING HIT BY 4 LANE TRAFFIC. CAR MOVED ABOUT A FOOT AFTER BRAKE WAS APPLIED HARDER. *TR
ELECTRICAL SMELL LIKE MELTING PLASTIC WIRING: FIRST INCIDENT AS NOTED ABOVE; 2ND INCIDENT ON 1/29/2013, MILEAGE 9227-ON VEHICLE START UP (ENGINE WARM AS IT WAS AFTER EARLIER DRIVING) SAME HOT, MELTING WIRE TYPE SMELL COMING THROUGH CLIMATE CONTROL DASH VENTS; 3RD INCIDENT ON 4/12/2013-MILEAGE 12,353-HOT BURNING SMELL THROUGH HEATER VENTS OCCURRING ON/AFTER CLIMBING STEEP HILL FOR A MILE OR SO; 4TH INCIDENT-4/16/2013, MILEAGE 12538, LOCATION OF INCIDENT SAME AS 3RD INCIDENT, SAME HILL CLIMB, SAME SMELL OCCURRING DURING DRIVE. REPORTED TO DEALER. COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED DURING SERVICE APPT. NO FURTHER INCIDENTS OF BURNING SMELL TO CURRENT DATE: 01/13/2014. CRUISE CONTROL AND TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTION ISSUES: FIRST INCIDENT: AROUND 1/20/2013; SUBSEQUENT INCIDENTS PERIODICALLY SINCE THEN TO CURRENT DATE OF 01/14/2013: WHEN ON CRUISE CONTROL, SPEEDS SET AT ANYWHERE (40-60 MPG FOR THESE INCIDENTS), ON COASTING DOWN OR FLAT TERRAIN TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT FROM 6TH (HIGH) GEAR DOWN TO 3RD OR 4TH AND HOLD THAT GEAR WITH ENGINE REV VING ACCORDINGLY, UNTIL I EITHER MANU-SHIFT IT BACK UP TO 6TH, OR, PERHAPS AFTER 10 OR MORE SECONDS IT MIGHT SHIFT INTO HIGHER GEAR ON ITS OWN. I HAVE DELIBERATELY NOT DISENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL DURING THESE INCIDENTS TO CONTINUE TO ASSESS THE CONDITION. RELATED TO THIS IS OCCASIONAL EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION AS CAR CAN DROP (ON CRUISE) TO BELOW SET SPEED AS IN A DIP IN THE ROAD, AND THEN APPLYING SPEED TO GET BACK TO SET SPEED, BUT, IT WILL ACCELERATE AGGRESSIVELY TO AS MUCH AS 10 MPH ABOVE SET SPEED BEFORE CRUISE CONTROL MODE 'BACK' OFF THE ACCELERATION ACTION, MAKING THE CAR FEEL LIKE IT IS 'TAKING OFF'. THIS CAN HAPPEN OFTEN ON CERTAIN ROADS AT SAME TRANSITION POINTS FROM COASTING DOWNWARD INTO A DIP IN THE ROAD, THEN (CRUISE CONTROL) REAPPLYING POWER TO GET THE CAR BACKUP TO SPEED. REST WILL BE SENT IN A SECOND SUBMISSION FOLLOWING THIS. *TR
SEE SUBMISSION NUMBER 10559603 SENT PRIOR TO THIS ON 1/14/2014: THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF THE EXPLANATION OF THE CRUISE CONTROL/TRANSMISSION/POWER TRAIN ISSUE EXPERIENCED WITH THE VEHICLE SINCE NEW. THE TEXT FROM THAT SUBMISSION CONTINUES TO ITS END. "IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN COMPUTER PROGRAM HAS SOME ERRORS IN IT OR NEEDS UPDATING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM OF EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION WHEN RE-ATTAINING A SET SPEED FROM A COAST DOWN THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO GO BELOW THE SET SPEED BEFORE THE SENSORS DETECT AND ACTIVATE THE ACCELERATION REQUIRED TO BRING THE CAR BACK UP TO THE SET SPEED. THEN IS 'SHOOTS' THE CAR FORWARD AT FULL POWER-LIKE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION MIGHT- AND SEND IT UP TO AS MUCH AS 10 MPH ABOVE THE 'THEN SET' SPEED I HAVE DESIRED. IF THERE IS A CORNER AT THE END OF THE RISE, THE CAR CAN FEEL OUT OF CONTROL DURING THIS ACCELERATION AS IT IS AT FULL POWER DURING THE ACCELERATION PHASE. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO DOWN SHIFTS 2 OR 3 GEARS DURING THIS PROCESS WHICH AGGRAVATES THE FIERCE ACCELERATION FEELING. THESE INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED BOTH TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AND TO HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI SAYS, TAKE IT TO OUR DEALER; THE DEALER SAYS THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG AS NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS ARE EVER SHOWING AND THEIR ELECTRONIC SCANNING BRINGS UP NOTHING OF ANY KIND OF PROBLEM. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE EXCLUSIVE TO THE SONATA HYBRID WITH CRUISE CONTROL AND SINCE MANY PEOPLE DO NOT USE CRUISE CONTROL ON WINDING RURAL ROADS, THEY MAY NOT/NEVER EXPERIENCE THE SAME SENSATION THAT CAN HAPPEN OFTEN TO ME. I CAN DEAL WITH IT. NHTSA SHOULD KEEP THIS REPORT ON FILE IN CASE OTHER CRUISE CONTROL OR ACCELERATION ISSUES WITH HYUNDAI VEHICLES SURFACE AS MY REPORT IS PRECISELY DEFINED AS TO WHAT TYPE OF ROAD CONDITION IT OCCURS ON AND WHAT HAPPENS. THANK YOU. *TR
GLASS PARTITION LOCATED BETWEEN WINDSHIELD AND SUNROOF SHATTERED AFTER BEING HIT BY A SMALL PEBBLE WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. *TR
PURCHASED NEW IN MAR. 2013, NOT OUR FIRST HYBRID. CAR BEGAN TO HAVE SHUDDER/JERKY/ROUGH TAKE OFF FROM MORNING START AND FIRST STOP SIGN AT END OF STREET. THIS BECAME MORE OFTEN AND WORSENED. ONE MORNING LEFT CURB AS USUAL, BRAKES LOCKED UP AT STOP SIGN AND WARNING LIGHT ON DASH FOR BRAKE PROBLEM. WAS ABLE TO BACK CAR BACK INTO CURB SPOT AND HAD TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DATE GIVEN WAS ABOUT THE TOWING DATE. CAR WAS IN SHOP AROUND THREE WEEKS DUE TO NEEDING NEW BRAKE MODULE OR SOMETHING THAT WAS LEAKING INTERNALLY INSIDE BRAKE UNIT FROM FACTORY. CAR ALSO HAD ISSUE TO WERE THE BATTERY WOULD NOT CHARGE PROPERLY. WORKED CORRECTLY WHEN PURCHASED BUT THEN WOULD NOT CHARGE PAST 50% AND USUALLY LESS THAN. REPAIRS MADE AND LOTS OF UPDATES AND SENSOR ADJUSTMENTS AND WE WERE GIVEN CAR BACK. SADLY IT ONLY LASTED A FEW MONTHS AND HAD TO BE TOWED AGAIN. LATE AUG, EARLY SEPT, THE CAR STARTED TO JERK AT TAKE OFF AGAIN. I TRIED JUST SITTING AT CURB FOR AWHILE AFTER STARTING CAR TO LET SENSORS WARM UP. THIS SEEMED TO HELP FOR SHORT TIME. PROBLEM WORSENED AGAIN UNTIL WIFE COMPLAINED. I DROVE FULL TIME AND IT HAD GOTTEN WORSE TO BAD AND ALL THE TIME. BAD ACCELERATION, LIKE BRAKES NOT LETTING OFF. LAST STRAW! NOV 1ST 2013, CAR JERKED AND SHUDDERED AT TAKE OFF, BRAKES LOCKED UP SOLID AT STOP SIGN, LOCKED UP AGAIN AT SECOND STOP SIGN, ENTERING TRAFFIC TO GET BACK HOME ... CAR STOPPED DEAD IN MIDDLE OF LEFT HAND TURN IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY!! FULLY LOADED LOG TRUCK COMING AT ME PASSENGER SIDE. TOOK 2-3 HARD STOMPS ON ACCELERATOR PEDDLE TO GET CAR MOVING, GAS ENGINE FINALLY REVVED HIGH BUT CAR JUST CRAWLED FORWARD!!! THANKFULLY THE TRUCK HAD STARTED BRAKING AS SOON AS HE SAW CAR HESITATE IN STREET AND CAR CRAWLED FORWARD ENOUGH THAT I DID NOT GET HIT. BUT THAT GRILL FILLED THE ENTIRE PASSENGER WINDOW. CAR TOWED TO SHOP AGAIN ON MON 4TH AM. CALLED ON 5TH, HUGE SOFTWARE UPDATE, BUT NO GUARANTY !?!?? *TR
VEHICLE WILL NOT START. FLASHING "CHECK BRAKES" .NO FOOT BRAKE PRESSURE. WITH THE HOOD UP CAN DETECT A MOTOR PUMPING INTERMITTENTLY WHICH I THINK IS THE BRAKE POWER UNIT. CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT A MONTH. NO FLUIDS ON THE GROUND. *TR
MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID LIMITED IS COMING UP WITH A WARNING SIGNAL "HYBRID SAFETY WARNING DO NOT DRIVE". THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE COMMON FACTOR HAS BEEN THAT I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON A 95+ DEGREE DAY AND IT HAPPENS WHEN I PULL IN TO PARK AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES. THE CAR SOUNDS AN ALARM AND THE MESSAGE COMES UP ON THE DASH ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CAR GETS STUCK IN PARK. I TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT 30 MINUTES LATER AFTER A COOL OFF PERIOD. THE LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE LINE CANNOT PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION NOR FIX. HYUNDAI SEEMS UNWILLING AND UNABLE TO RUN THIS ISSUE UP TO THEIR DESIGN ENGINEERS TO FIND OUT WHAT THE LIGHT IS DESIGNED TO ALERT OWNERS AND MECHANICS ABOUT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE LITHIUM BATTERY MAY BE A PART OF THIS "HYBRID SAFETY" PROBLEM. SINCE HYUNDAI DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE ALERT MEANS, THEY CANNOT ASSURE ME THAT IT IS NOT THE LITHIUM BATTERY CAUSING THIS ALERT. THEY SIMPLY CANNOT DIAGNOSE IT SINCE THEY CANNOT MAKE IT REPLICATE AT THE DEALERSHIP. *JS
FRONT SECTION OF PANORAMIC GLASS ROOF EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT ROOF, AFTER RECOVERING FROM THE SHOCK OF THE SOUND FROM EXPLOSION, AND FOUND THAT THE GLASS HAD A HOLE IN THE CENTER, APPROXIMATELY 8" X 8". GLASS APPEARS TO HAVE BLOWN UP, INSTEAD OF DOWNWARD. REMAINDER OF THE GLASS WAS CAUGHT BY THE INTERIOR SHADE, WHICH, LUCKILY, WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME. AT THE TIME OF THE EXPLOSION NO VEHICLES WERE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS BEING PASSED, IN THE LEFT LANE OF A 4-LANE MAJOR HIGHWAY, BY A NEW PASSENGER CAR, WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 CAR-LENGTH AHEAD. ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS IN THE LEFT LANE, APPROXIMATELY 6 CARS BEHIND THAT CAR. UNSURE IF ANY GLASS WAS BLOWN ON THE VEHICLE TRAILING US, IN THE LEFT LANE. I AM THANKFUL THAT THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AS I AM NOT SURE THAT MY WIFE WOULD HAVE REACTED AS CALMLY AS I DID. *TR
PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE. BRAKES BEGAN MAKING LOUD GRINDING NOISE. PULLED BACK INTO PARKING SPACE WHEN BRAKES FAILED. BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT AND CHIME WAS ACTIVATED. VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP AND HIT THE CONCRETE HANDICAP SIGN STOPPING THE CAR. PREVIOUSLY HAD PROBLEM WITH NAVIGATION UNIT WHICH WAS REPLACED ONCE AND READY FOR SECOND REPLACEMENT. TOLD SERVICE MANAGER WE THOUGHT IT MAY BE ELECTRICAL RELATED, NOT DEFECTIVE UNITS. BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WITH NAVIGATION UNIT IS RELATED TO THE BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER ACCIDENT, HYUNDAI HAD AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS EXAMINE CAR. HYUNDAI SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALER SAID THE CAR HAD MAIN HYDRAULIC FAILURE AND NEW PART WAS ORDERED. IF NOTHING WAS WRONG, WHY WAS HYDRAULIC UNIT REPLACED. HYUNDAI REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE HYBRID BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,300...UPDATED 03-13-13 *BF THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO PULLED A BRAKE BOOSTER CODE, BUT SINCE THE CODE WAS NO LONGER ACTIVE, NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
THE MOVING PORTION OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF SCATTERED RAINING GLASS SHARDS ONTO THE DRIVER AND OVER THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR. *TR
WHILE SLOWLY MOVING DOWNHILL, ON THE FREEWAY, DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES AND ACCELERATED QUICKLY. THE SWITCH FROM HYBRID TO GAS ENGINE INTERFACE ONLY CAUSED THE ENGINE TO REV (INCREASE RPM) WITHOUT ANY GEAR BEING ENGAGED. I QUICKLY LET OFF THE PEDDLE AND DEPRESSED IT AGAIN. IT THEN ENGAGED THE TRANSMISSION, NARROWLY AVERTING AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5-6 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR WHEN TRAVELING SLOWLY AND THEN TRYING TO GET A BURST FROM THE GAS ENGINE. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP, AND TOOK IT IN FOR A CHECK PER THEIR RECOMMENDATION. THEY FOUND NOTHING AND COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT, ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT TRY THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCE. THEY ONLY ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND ACCELERATE AT WHICH I SAID THEY WOULDN'T GET IT TO HAPPEN THAT WAY.
PULLING INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR QUIT, LEAVING ME STARRING DOWN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE AND GET IT RESTARTED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE DURING THE SAME DAY. IT WILL ALSO ONLY CHARGE THE BATTERIES TO 50%, AND SOMETIME THE CAR WON'T OPERATE ON ONLY BATTERY POWER. THIS IS A POTENTIAL VERY SERIOUS ITEM THEY NEED TO ADDRESS, OR START RETURNING MONEY TO THE OWNERS. I WILL NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. IT IS A DANGEROUS CAR, NEVER KNOWING WHEN IT WILL QUIT. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SONATA HYBRID. *TR
