The Front And Rear Cross Members have severe Corrosion. These components are available for inspection upon request. The front cross member has a corrosion hole through an entire section. in addition to severe corrosion through out. The rear cross member had corroded to the point of failure while the vehicle was being operated. This resulted in the drivers’ side lower control arm to break away and rest on the ground. At this point the vehicle was inoperable and was required to be towed to a service station. This occurred at a speed of 25 mph, the car was immediately stopped because of the noise heard. If we had been traveling on a highway, this could have resulted in an accident. There was not warning of this impending failure. The passengers side of the rear cross member where the lower control arm is attached is also severely corroded. The rear cross member has been repaired along with ancillary connected parts. The repair was conducted by a local repair shop.

I have had constant problems already reported with this vehicle. The transmission overheats and dies on me or gets sluggish on the highway traffic. Today it completely died on me. After pulling over giving a minute it started back up. Jeep should be ashamed of themselves. So many ppl are reporting this same issue. They need to recall these cheap poorly made transmisdionscthat they already no are faulty. I READ ABOUT THE SAFETY RECALL NHTSA # M11 AND M14 WHICH STATED THAT 2012 JEEP COMPASS AND PATRIOT PRODUCED BETWEEN 12/17/2011 AND 01/02/2012 HAD DAMAGED ROLL OVER VALVES INSTALLED IN THE TANKS AND WHERE SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. THE COMPLAINT I HAVE IS MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS PRODUCED ON 4/12/2012 HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

THE VEHICLE THEN WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V142000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CODE THAT HAS CONSISTENTLY COME UP IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH WE WERE TOLD NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THAT IT'S JUST A GLITCH. NOW, THE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF AFTER A RESET AND ARE BEING TOLD THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE CATALYTIC CONVERTER (WHICH I CAN NOT AFFORD) AND DON'T EVEN KNOW IF IT'S A TRUE ISSUE BEING SINCE THE ENGINE LIGHT CONSTANTLY BEING ON SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE AND NOW WON'T GO OFF AT ALL. TRIED MOVING THE GAS PUMP IN DIFFERENT POSITIONS BUT STILL WON'T FILL. GAS ENDS UP BUBBLING AND OVERFLOWS EVEN THOUGH THE TANK IS ONLY AT A QUARTER TANK. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE HEADREST, IT WAS CLEAR THAT IT HAD NOT 'DEPLOYED' OR 'TRIGGERED.' THE CLAMPS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO RELEASE THE BAR WHEN DEPLOYING WERE STILL IN PLACE, HOLDING THE BAR. INSTEAD, THE PLASTIC THAT HOLDS THE BAR IN PLACE HAD BROKEN, ALLOWING THE HEADREST TO VIOLENTLY SHOOT OUT. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS IN THAT SEAT AT THE TIME. AND EVEN MORE FORTUNATELY, IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING, AS THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. I CALLED THE JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER, THINKING THAT THEY WOULD HELP REMEDY THE SITUATION AND WANT TO KNOW THAT THIS CAN HAPPENED. TO MY DISMAY, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALERSHIP AND PAY TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. NATURALLY, I WAS STUNNED AT THEIR INDIFFERENCE TO SUCH A SERIOUS FLAW IN THEIR VEHICLE. 2012 JEEP COMPASS CHECK BALL ISSUE I HAVE A 2012 JEEP COMPASS WITH 59,000 MILES ON IT. DURING A FUEL STOP TWO WEEKS AGO, I DISCOVERED THE NOZZLE WOULD SHUT OFF AFTER FUELING FOR A FEW SECONDS. TO ENSURE IT WASN'T THE NOZZLE AT THE FUEL PUMP, I TRIED 3 OTHER PUMPS AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. SO, I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC SAID THE CHECK BALL VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK IS STUCK AND THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE THIS ISSUE REPAIRED IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. THE TOTAL COST WITH THE NEW FUEL TANK AND LABOR WILL BE $1,600. JUST TO HAVE A SECOND OPINION, I TOOK IT TO A WELL RESPECTED LOCAL MECHANIC IN MY TOWN AND HE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I KNOW THE SMALLER JEEPS, LIKE THE COMPASS, HAVE HAD FUEL TANK RECALLS IN THE PAST BECAUSE OF VENTILATION ISSUES AND THE ROLL OVER VALVES. THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE ON JEEP FORUMS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. SOME FOLKS WERE ELIGIBLE FOR RECALLS AND SOME WERE NOT. THE OTHER FUEL TANK ISSUE I READ ABOUT WAS THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH THE CHECK BALL BEING STUCK AND HAVING TO PAY FOR A NEW FUEL TANK. PERSONALLY, I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE, THAT A PERSON HAS TO PAY TO HAVE AN ENTIRE NEW FUEL TANK INSTALLED BECAUSE A COMPANY IS MANUFACTURING VEHICLES WITH DEFECTIVE FUEL TANKS. SO, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DRIVE A HUNDRED MILES AND THE NEW FUEL TANK CHECK BALL GETS STUCK? WE TOOK IT INTO THE MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THE SMOOTH TRANSITION TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY AND CAUSES THE CAR TO OVERHEAT. HE SAID IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION DROPS. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE TAKING MY FAMILY ANYWHERE IN THE CAR. BETWEEN THE SLUGGISHNESS, STALLING, OVERHEATING AND TRANSMISSION MY CAR IS A TICKING TIME BOMB. LUCKILY STATE TROOPERS WERE THERE ON THE OTHER SIDE FOR AN ACCIDENT THERE WAS SCREAMING AT US TO MOVE BECAUSE THAT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SPOT TODAY WE YELLED BACK THE CAR WILL NOT START. ONE OF THE STATE TROOPERS PAIN BEHIND US WITH THEIR LIGHTS AND WE HAD TO WAIT ON A TOW TRUCK AND TAXI CAB FOR US TO GET TO THE HOTEL. NOT ONLY COULD I HAVE BEEN HIT, BUT THE OTHER VEHICLES BEHIND ME AS WELL. MY CAR WASN'T EASILY NOTICABLE. I HAD THE RECALL PROCEDURE COMPLETED BUT I DID NOT TAKE ANY LONG TRIPS UNTIL THE DAY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. I PURCHASED THE JEEP FEBUARY 28TH 2013, FROM ORR HONDA TEXARKANA TX. I WAS NOT INFORMED THE VEHICLE HAD ANY PROBLEMS OR RECALLS AT THAT TIME. WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THE SEAT BELTS WOULD SPONTANEOUSLY UNLOCK AND OPEN. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO HAVE AN ACCELERATION PROBLEM IT WAS SLUGGISH AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS NOT CHANGING GEARS. WHEN I WAS STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN AND BEGAN TO TURN THE CAR STALLED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND QUIT, IT STARTED BACK AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY. ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAD IT AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALLS AND THE PROBLEMS I DESCRIBED OVER FIVE TIMES A TOTAL OF 2 FULL MONTHS COMBINED AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL ISSUES WERE RESOLVED I PICKED IT UP ON 3/15/14 FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND DROVE IT HOME, IT DIED ON ME WHILE DRIVING, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET AND SAT THERE UNTIL IT STARTED AGAIN, I GOT IT HOME GOT UP TO GO TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING AND ALTHOUGH ALL LIGHTS AND ALARMS ARE WORKING IT ONLY CLICKS WHEN U TRY TO START IT. IT WILL START UP IMMEDIATELY WITH A BOOST. I HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT DRIVE IT DUE TO THE STALLING AND DYING WHILE DRIVING. I AM A PEDIATRIC HOME NURSE AND I TRANSPORT DISABLED CHILDREN SO NOT ONLY IS MY LIFE IN DANGER WITH THIS VEHICLE SO ARE THE LIVES OF THE DISABLED CHILDREN I CARE FOR DURING MY JOB. DURING THE MONTHS IT WAS IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP I MISSED SO MANY WORK DAYS I HAD TO GIVE UP MY POSITION AND START A DIFFERENT POSITION DUE TO THE LACK OF RELIABILITY OF THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2012 JEEP COMPASS SPORT, SINCE JULY 2013 I HAVE BEEN HAVING SPUTTERING, SURGING, ACCELERATION ISSUES. I HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER OVER 3 TIMES IT IS IN DEALER CURRENTLY. THEY HAVE PUT A TRACKER ON TO FIND ISSUE AND STILL NOTHING. WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE AND IT GETS BOGGED DOWN AND DOES NOT WANT TO GO ANY FURTHER THIS IS A CONCERN. ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM ENTERING HIGHWAY AND CANNOT GET PAST 59MPH WITH THE CAR. IT FEELS LIKE I AM IN A WINDTUNNEL THE LOW ACCELERATION IS INSANE. SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO SHIFT. I HAVE HAD IN DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY JUST SAY WELL WE ARE NOT SURE. TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS GETTING ON HIGHWAY AND MY CAR JUST STAYED AT 59 MPH AND 1.5 RPMS. AND WOULD GO NO FURTHER IT DID THIS FOR 4 + MILES ON HIGHWAY. I HAD HORNS HONKING AT ME AND I WAS JUST WAITING TO GET PULLED OVER FOR GOING TO SLOW. SOUNDS AND FEELS LIKE A TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I UNDERSTAND ITS A 4 CYLINDER. BUT IT DROVE GREAT AND WONDERFULLY SMOOTH THE FIRST YEAR, THEN A WEIRD IDLE STARTED TO OCCUR RANDOMLY, THEN A LITTLE SURGE WHEN LEAVING STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS, IT SQUEAKS AND CREAKS WHEN MAKING TURNS AND CREAKS LOUDLY GOING OVER BUMPS. I WAS LOADING MY TEN MONTH OLD SON INTO THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE SEAT ON A HOT DAY. THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED IN THE SUN AND IT WAS 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE. I PUSHED THE REMOTE START ON MY KEY FOB TO GET THE CAR COOLING OFF WHILE I FINISHED FASTENING MY SON'S HARNESS AND TOSSED THE KEYS ONTO THE PASSENGER SEAT TO FREE MY HANDS. THE CAR DID NOT START BECAUSE I HAD THE DOOR OPEN, HOWEVER THE DOORS DID ALL LOCK. I REALIZED THE DOORS WERE ALL LOCKED WHEN I WENT TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. IMMEDIATELY I RAN BACK INSIDE AND HAD MY MOM CALL 911 WHILE I SPRAYED COLD WATER ON THE CAR WITH A HOSE. THE FIRST INSTANCE OF THE VEHICLE SLOWING RAPIDLY WHEN LETTING UP ON THE GAS OCCURRED DURING RUSH HOUR ON A LOCAL PARKWAY. WHILE TRAVELLING WITH THE TRAFFIC, AT ABOUT 67 MPH, THE TRAFFIC AHEAD STARTED TO SLOW. RATHER THAN STEP ON THE BRAKE, I LIFTED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CAR BEGAN TO QUICKLY DECELERATE. IT HAPPENED SO FAST THAT THE PERSON BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME. THEY PROCEDED TO GO AROUND ME AND PULLED ABRUPTLY IN FRONT OF ME AND BRAKED. HE MUST HAVE THOUGHT I DID IT INTENTIONALLY. THIS HAD BEEN HAPPENING AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND THE SERVICE PERSONNEL AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE THE CAR MORE MILES AS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ONE TECH EVEN SAID THAT THIS IS THE WAY THE CVT WORKS AND I'D HAVE TO GET USED TO IT. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED ON THE PARKWAY ABOUT A MONTH LATER. THIS TIME THE OUTCOME WASN'T AS SEVERE AS THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE. TRAFFIC WAS A LITTLE LIGHTER BUT MOVING JUST AS QUICKLY. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THAT IS WHERE THE CAR IS NOW. THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE OR FIND ANY FAILURE CODES FOR THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, A NEW SERVICE ASSISTANT TOLD ME THAT THAT IS HOW THE CVT WORKS. I INFORMED HIM AS I HAD INFORMED THE OTHERS THAT I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLES WITH THE CVT AND IT IS NOT HOW THEY WORK. THE AGENCY RESPOND TO ME THAT THE FAIL WAS IN THE (INTEGRATED POWER MODULE = IPM) AND REQUIRE 15 DAYS FOR ASK THE PART TO THE PLANT AND TIME TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. I AM REPORTING THIS SITUATION, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO ME IS CRITICAL BECAUSE THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, THE ENGINE PRACTICALLY DIED, AS THE (IPM - INTEGRATED POWER MODULE) FAILS AND DID NOT SEND VOLTAGE TO THE PUMP GAS AND THEREFORE NOT IGNITED THE VEHICLE.
