Brake booster failure caused a near miss. Wife driving with 5 year old daughter in the vehicle. The stopping force required on the brake pedal became excessive and the stopping (safe braking) distance significantly increased causing emotional distress. My understanding is this part (brake booster) has a defective diaphragm that deteriorates over time. The extended warranty created for this particular issue did not cover the vehicle at the time of the failure.
BRAKE BOOSTER INTERNAL FAILURE - This is a known issue and a safety hazard on Mazda CX 9 models and should be investigated again regardless of the age of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 Mazda CX-9. The contact stated while driving 25 mph and approaching a stop sign, depressing the brake pedal the vehicle failed to stop. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she pumped the brake pedal and shifted to neutral until the vehicle came to a stop. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the power brake booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,805.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY ABOUT 30MIPH AND BEGAN HEARING A HISSING NOISE WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. ONCE I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY A SMALL INCLINE, AND PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WAS VERY TIGHT AND STOPPED AT A POINT, BUT WOULD NOT GO FURTHER, TRIED SHIFTING DIFFERENT GEARS. FINALLY BRAKE DEPRESSED. HISSING HAS CONTINUES, VERY STIFF BRAKE PEDAL
I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE (DRIVING 60+MPH) AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON. I TRIED TO USE MY BRAKES BUT THEY WERE ROCK HARD AND THE PEDAL WOULDN'T DEPRESS. I WAS FORCED TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT, STILL HAVING NO BRAKES, AND BARELY MADE IT OVER 3 LANES TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. IN DOING SO, I CAUSED TOTAL CHAOS AROUND ME, CAUSED A TRACTOR TRAILER TO START TO JACKKNIFE, WHICH CAUSED A CHAIN REACTION BEHIND HIM. IT WAS A TOTAL MIRACLE THAT NO ACCIDENTS WERE CAUSED AND NO ONE WAS KILLED. I CALLED MY MECHANIC FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, HYSTERICAL. HE LOOKED IN HIS DATABASE AND FOUND THAT MAZDA HAD KNOWN ISSUES WITH THEIR POWER BRAKE BOOSTER. I SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND A LETTER FROM MAZDA INSTRUCTING OWNERS "IF YOUR VEHICLE IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, THERE IS NO NEED TO CONTACT YOUR DEALER." ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? MY BRAKES WERE FINE UNTIL THEY WEREN'T, THEN I NARROWLY AVOIDED BEING KILLED OR CAUSING THE DEATH OF ANOTHER BECAUSE APPARENTLY MAZDA'S BODY COUNT WASN'T HIGH ENOUGH TO ISSUE A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF WITH AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO DIAGNOSED THAT WATER ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED THE CORROSION OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION BALL JOINT. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AND LOST ALL POWER. LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WE HAD CAR TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER INSPECTION WE WERE TOLD THE WATER PUMP HAD FAILED CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. WE WERE QUOTED $8K-$10K TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE 2012 MAZDA CX-9 ONLY HAD 99K MILES, BUT UNFORTUNATELY OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED A FEW YEARS AGO, SO MAZDA WAS OF NO HELP. WE WERE LEFT TO JUNK OUR CAR FOR A FRACTION OF WHAT IT'S VALUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND WE WILL BE JOINING THE CURRENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST MAZDA.
BRAKE BOOSTER ON VEHICLE WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING, HARD TO ENGAGE BRAKE AND SLOW VEHICLE TO A STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, AND MAKING A TURN AT 5 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE SQUISHY AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BOB MOORE MAZDA (13045 N. KELLEY AVE, OKLAHOMA CITY, OK 73131 (405) 775-7000) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
WHILE PULLING INTO MY GARAGE AT LOW SPEED, MY POWER BRAKES FAILED. I HAD TO PRACTICALLY STAND ON THE BREAK PEDAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, BARELY STOPPING BEFORE HITTING THE FRIDGE IN MY GARAGE.THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FOR SERVICE AND THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AS THE FAILURE OF THE BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER.
BRAKE PEDAL HAS BECOME HARDER THAN USUAL TO DEPRESS AND THE CAR DOES NOT START STOPPING UNTIL THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED HARDER AND FURTHER DOWN. ALSO THERE IS A HISSING NOISE ONCE THE CAR STOPS AND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES FURTHER TO THE FLOORBOARD. ONCE STOPPED AND SITTING THE CAR WILL LURCH AS IF IT HAS BEEN HIT IN THE REAR END. THIS ALL HAPPENS ON ANY TYPE OF ROADWAY. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS AND GETTING MORE PRONOUNCED.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKE, HEAR HISSING SOUND DOWN AT FEET. HARD TO STOP, FEELS LIKE PEDAL IS PUSHING BACK. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS, EVEN WHEN PUTTING CAR INTO GEAR FROM PARK. IT HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. MECHANIC ADVISED IT IS THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH THE FAMILY AFTER VIEWING SOME HOUSE. EVERY TIME I WOULD STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL I WOULD HEAR A HISSING FROM THE BRAKE. BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW BUT, WITH THE PANDEMIC GOING ON I JUST DON'T HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKE IT WOULD STOP LIKE NORMAL WITH AIR HISSING. THE NEXT DAY THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD FEEL VERY HARD TO PRESS DOWN. LIKE AS IF YOU BEEN PUMPING YOUR BRAKE WHEN THE CAR OFF AND WHEN YOU TURN YOUR CAR ON THE PRESSURE WOULD BE RELEASED. NOT TODAY, IT STAYED HARD AND HARD TO STOP. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE VERY HARD AS IF PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR TO MAKE THE CAR STOP. JUST STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT, STOP SIGN, OFF THE HIGHWAY, AND TRAFFIC WAS A CHALLENGE. I'LL EVENTUALLY STOP BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A INTERSECTION OR IN THE BACK OF A CAR. IF I HAD TO BRAKE BECAUSE SOMEONE TURNED IN FRONT OF ME, I WOULD OF JUST HIT THEM FULL SPEED BECAUSE MY BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE TO PRODUCE ENOUGH PRESSURE TO ENGAGE MY BRAKES TO STOP. THE DAY THE BRAKE BOOSTER HAPPEN TO FAILURE COMPLETELY IS WHEN WE HAD A FAMILY TRIP DOWN TO THE WISCONSIN DELLS OVER THE JULY 4TH WEEKEND. SINCE BRAKE BOOSTER WASN'T A RECALL BUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ENDED MARCH 2015 OR 90,000 MILES. MAZADA WOULD CHARGE ME FULL PRICE TO GET IT FIXED. I WOULD NOT FELL SAFE DRIVING IT TO THE DEALER AND MAZADA DOESNT COVER TOWING UNLESS ITS WITHIN 3 YEARS. SO THEY'LL TOW ANYTHING IN THE 2017 AND NEWER. 2012 MAZADA CX-9 WITH 112,500. OWNED IT FOR EXACTLY 3 TO DATED
PURCHASED FROM A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED MAZDA DEALER....I EXPERIENCED, WITH NO WARNING, MY BRAKES BECOME HARD TO PRESS. IT HAPPENS IN REVERSE, COMING OFF CRUISE, SLOW/FAST SPEED, ETC. I HAVE TO USE AN EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT OF EFFORT TO PRESS THE BRAKES AND BRING THE CAR TO A STOP. IF SOMEONE PULLS OUT IN FRONT OF ME, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE I WOULD BE ABLE TO OPERATE THE BRAKES QUICKLY ENOUGH TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE CHILDREN I TRANSPORT AND IT IS CONCERNING FOR ME AS A MOM ESPECIALLY. A FEW TIMES THE PEDAL WILL 'RELEASE' AND OPERATE NORMALLY AFTER THE EXTRA PRESSURE IS APPLIED WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO JERK TO A STOP BECAUSE THE BRAKES WERE BEING PRESSED VERY HARD. MOST TIMES, EXTRA PRESSURE IS REQUIRED THE ENTIRE TIME. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND AN ISSUE I AM AWARE IS COMMON IN THIS MODEL. MAZDA EXTENDED THIS WARRANTY TO 90K AND 7 YEARS BACK IN 2015; HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT COVER USED CAR PURCHASERS. THE ISSUE WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME IN MY PURCHASE DATE OF 12/12/2016. HAD I KNOWN THIS MAJOR COMPONENT COULD FAIL, I WOULD HAVE MADE A MORE EDUCATED DECISION ON WHETHER TO PURCHASE OR REQUEST THE FAULTY SYSTEM BE CORRECTED.
IN OCT. 2019 MY CX9 STOPPED WHILE BEING DRIVEN. FOUND OUT THE WATER PUMP (WHICH IS INSIDE THE ENGINE) HAD GONE OUT AND DESTROYED MY ENGINE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM OF WHICH MAZDA HAS FAILED TO MAKE THEIR CONSUMERS AWARE. I PURCHASED THIS CARE NEW AND ALL OF MY SERVICES HAD BEEN HANDLED BY MAZDA. NO-ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND I STILL HAD TO PAY JUST OVER 4K TO GET A NEW ENGINE OF THE SAME STUPID DESIGN PUT IN MY CAR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. HOW MANY MAZDA DRIVERS HAVE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED IN CRASHES BECAUSE THE WATER PUMP DESTROYED THE ENGINE ON A FREEWAY AND THE CAR CEASING TO MOVE WAS THE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT THAT TOTALED THE CAR AND AS A RESULT WENT UNDETECTED? THE ENGINES NEED TO BE RECALLED.
11/1/2016- AT 92,205 MILES VEHICLE SHUDDERED WHEN I STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR. I WAS TOLD IT WAS TRANSMISSION RELATED. ON MY WAY TO MECHANIC VEHICLE COMPLETELY SEIZED; HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP. ANGLE GEAR HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE TRANSFER CASE OIL BURNED OFF BECAUSE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS PLACED TOO CLOSE AND IT COOKS LUBRICANT. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MAZDA CX9'S. COST 1,400. MAZDA WAS UNWILLING TO COVER REPAIRS AT ALL. 6/22/2020 - 130,000 MILES SAME SHUDDERING HAPPENED WHEN STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR AND SAME ISSUE. CALLED MAZDA AND SAME RESPONSE 'NOT OUR PROBLEM, IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY'. *TR
I AM NOW EXPERIENCING WHAT MAZDA MAILED OWNERS PREVIOUSLY (SEE ATTACHED SSP93 OWNERS NOTICE) REGARDING "POWER BRAKE UNIT WARRANTY EXTENSION PROGRAM SSP 93 2007-2013 MAZDA CX-9". I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I FIND MYSELF RUNNING STOP SIGNS WHEN I TRY TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT AN INTERSECTION. I KNOW THAT MAZDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS ON IT'S SSP93 BULLETIN. BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO OWNERS LIKE MYSELF WHO DO NOT FALL WITHIN THAT TIME-FRAME AND ARE NOW EXPERIENCING THIS SAFETY ISSUE? IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE, THAT SINCE MAZDA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM, THAT THE OWNER LIKE MYSELF GETS STUCK WITH THIS SAFETY PROBLEM CONCERNING FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE CX-9. PLEASE ADVISE. THANKS.
THE PASSENGER AUTOMATIC WINDOW MOTOR AND CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR WAS MOVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN IT STOPPED WORKING
AS THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN THE BREAKS BECAME HARD AND UNLESS PRESSED VERY HARD IT KEEPS GOING. IT DOESN'T GO DOWN AT ALL. ASSESSMENT SHOWS BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE. IT IS WEIRD OTHER VEHICLE I HAD ...A TOYOTA NEVER FAILED. I CAN'T DRIVE IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO KENNEDY MAZDA LOCATED AT 1411 RIDGE PIKE, CONSHOHOCKEN, PA 19428, (610)272-0700, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED DUE TO A WATER PUMP FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE HOME AND LATER REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVING ON RTE 3 N IN BRAINTREE. CAR WAS DECELERATING WHILE I HAD MY FOOT ON GAS. LOST STEERING AND BARELY MADE IT TO BRAKE DOWN LANE. THIS CAR HAS 72K MILES ON IT. NEEDS NEW ENGINE.
BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO MAZDA. MAZDA SAID TO BRING INTO DEALER FOR ASSESSMENT AND CONSIDERATION FOR GOODWILL WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. DEALER DETERMINED BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED AND MAZDA THEN DENIED GOODWILL CLAIM. I PAID DEALER TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED, NOT GRANTED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.
POWER BOOSTER HIGH PITCH SOUND WHEN PRESSING BRAKES AND BRAKES ARE HARD WHEN PRESSED THEN GO SOFT AND HARD TO STOP THE CAR.
2012 MAZDA CX-9. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BRAKE POWER BOOST UNIT FAILURE. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN PRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL THERE IS A HISSING AND THUNK NOISE. THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ASSISTANCE.*JS
BRAKE PEDAL ACTION FEELS SPONGY, SOFT. REQUIRES EXTRA FORCE TO STOP THE CAR WHEN MOVING ON CITY STREETS.
WHEN PUSHING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL IS 'HARD' AS IF THE PEDAL WAS ON THE FLOOR THERE'S A HISSING NOISE LIKE AIR IS LEAKING. IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP IT DOES NOT HAPPEN THE BRAKES ARE SO HARD THE CAR WON'T STOP!! THIS DEFECT HAPPENED SUDDENLY THERE WAS NO GRADUAL WARNING !
SO DISAPPOINTED IN NHTSA FOR NOT REQUIRING MAZDA TO RECALL THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE! NHTSA'S INVESTIGATION INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE WAS CLOSED WHEN MAZDA AGREED TO AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS MANUFACTURING SAFETY DEFECT. HAD THE NHTSA PUSHED FOR A RECALL NOTICE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ALERTED TO THIS SAFETY DEFECT AND COULD HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED (IT IS KNOWN TO FAIL AROUND 62,000 MILES). WE CONTACTED MAZDA TODAY ABOUT THE WARRANTY ONLY TO BE TOLD OUR VEHICLE WARRANTY EXPIRED LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AGO, RESULTING IN MAZDA'S REFUSAL TO COVER A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT. MAZDA'S LACK OF COMMITMENT TO RESOLVING THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS SHOCKING. NHTSA'S ACCEPTANCE OF MAZDA EXTENDING ITS WARRANTY FOR THIS KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE IS DISHEARTENING AS WELL. A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT; THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED WHEN IT FAILED OR, AT THE VERY LEAST, RECALLED AND REPLACED. A TIME LIMIT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN OPTION FOR A SAFETY ISSUE (OR AN OUT FOR MAZDA). PERHAPS IT IS TIME FOR NHTSA TO REOPEN ITS INVESTIGATION TO PROTECT THE CONSUMERS AGAINST A KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT. MAZDA CERTAINLY DOESN'T BACK IT'S PRODUCT WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY ISSUES!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS BEFORE OR AFTER THE FAILURE. THE BRAKE PEDAL ALSO BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CONTINENTAL MAZDA (LOCATED AT 2363 AURORA AVE, NAPERVILLE, IL 60540, (630) 352-5900) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT COOLANT ENTERED THE ENGINE OIL AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-2189354066. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
I WAS TURNING RIGHT INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE CAR DARTED FORWARD. FOR A SPLIT SECOND I LIFTED MY FOOT TO MAKE SURE I WAS NOT PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR, AND IMMEDIATELY PUSHED BACK DOWN ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD; THE CAR CONTINUED TO SPEED FORWARD. INSTINCTIVELY I KEPT THE WHEEL TURNED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE BUILDING IN FRONT OF ME AS THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB, BUT I HIT 2 PARKED CARS. ONCE I WAS ALMOST STOPPED BY HITTING THE 2 PARKED CARS, I QUICKLY TURNED THE KEY OFF AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE BEFORE; AND LET ME TELL YOU, I WAS TERRIFIED. I HAVE PICTURES THAT SHOW TIRE MARKS EITHER FROM THE CARS ACCELERATION OR DRAGGING THE BACK WHEELS FROM PUSHING ON THE BRAKE.
APPLYING BRAKES FOR 1-2 SECONDS RESULTED IN NO IMMEDIATE STOPPING, ONLY RESISTANCE FROM THE PEDAL. AFTER 1-2 SECONDS, THE BRAKES WERE AGGRESSIVLY APPLIED. THIS RESULTED IN "RUNNING A STOP SIGN" AND STOPPING THE IN MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THIS OCCURRED ON A CITY STREET MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE GETTING THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP. ON HIGHWAYS, BRAKING HAD TO BEGIN WELL IN ADVANCE TO AVOID POSSIBLE CRASHES. WE HAD TO HAVE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS 55K MILE ON IT.
WE OWN A 2011 MAZDA CX7 AND A 2012 MAZDA CX9, THE MOTORS IN THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS OF BOTH CARS WHEN OUT WITHIN A 6 MONTH PERIOD OF TIME. THE WARRANT ON THE CARS WERE OUT AT 36K MILES AND IN 2014. THE MOTORS BOTH STOPPED WORKING PAST THIS PERIOD TIME BUT HAVE READ THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THESE SAME VEHICLES. THE WINDOWS GO DOWN BUT START MAKING A LOUD CLICKING SOUND AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP WITH OUT HOLDING YOU HAND ON IT, CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH SMALL CHILDREN.
BRAKES SLIP CAUSING UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE EVEN AT LOW SPEED. VERY CONCERNED ABOUT FAMILY SAFETY. RESEARCH FOUND ISSUE WAS NOTED PREVIOUSLY AND SUPPOSEDLY CLOSED, BUT MANY COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE HAVE BEEN FILED SINCE. HOW MANY DEATHS MUST NHTSA SEE REPORTED UNTIL THEY TAKE ACTION AND RECALL THIS ADMITTEDLY FAULTY DESIGN?
VEHICLE STALLED WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY, ENGINE LIGHT ON, NOISE FROM TIMING CHAIN AREA, VEHICLE OVERHEATS, WATER PUMP FAILURE PUSHES ANTIFREEZE INTO THE OIL COMPARTMENT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO GET DAMAGED WITHIN MINUTES WHITEOUT A WARNING. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR VERY EXPENSIVE SAFETY ISSUE.
I OWN A 2012 MAZDA CX9, WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. ON MONDAY MORNING (NOVEMBER 12, 2018) MY (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON) AND SO I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. MY CAR WAS RUNNING BEAUTIFULLY, SO I JUST ASSUMED WITH THE WEATHER CHANGE, PERHAPS THE GAS CAP WASN'T TIGHTENED, AND THEY JUST NEEDED TO CLEAR THE CODES. IT TURNS OUT THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND APPARENTLY DESTROYED THE ENTIRE ENGINE. WHICH BECAME APPARENT AS I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS, PER THEIR RECOMMENDATION. MY CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED BASED ON THE DEALER RECOMMENDATIONS AND IS CONSISTENTLY SERVICED AT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THE CAR IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION WITH ONLY 90,000. AS AN OWNER, I DID EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK IN TERMS OF MAINTENANCE FOR MY CAR. I AM LETTING YOU KNOW, MAZDA HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE, AS WELL. IF A WATER PUMP CAN JUST FAIL WITHOUT WARNING AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AN ENGINE, THAT'S NOT GOOD. I THINK THIS IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE AIR BAG RECALL, WHICH IS ONLY A CONCERN IF YOU GET IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO WARNING ON THE WATER PUMP FAILING, AS IT'S SELF-CONTAINED WITHIN THE POWER TRAIN AND THE ONLY WAY TO CHECK THIS PART IS BY REMOVING THE ENTIRE ENGINE, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS PART WAS NOT DESIGNED TO BE A WEAR PART. IT'S AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW, THAT CAN CAUSE BODILY HARM IF IT FAILS, BECAUSE IT TAKES OUT THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND YOU LOSE CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING MY MAZDA CAR, IT SUDDENLY STARTED BUCKING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. PER MAZDA MECHANIC, WATER PUMP MALFUNCTIONED FORCING COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE. FEEL THIS POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AS THERE WAS VERY LITTLE WARNING POSING RISK OF ACCIDENT, ENGINE OVERHEATING AND POTENTIAL FIRE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE AS MULTIPLE OTHER POSTS REPORTED
TAKATA RECALL" THIS IS IN RELATION TO CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYING WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED. TRAVELING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND THE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING HARD BETWEEN 4TH AND 5TH GEAR. MY WIFE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE AIR BAG RECALL DONE. THEY THEN CHARGED US $122 TO UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION PROGRAM TO CORRECT THE FACTORY ISSUE. NOW IT SHIFTS FROM 6TH TO 3RD ON THE INTERSTATE.
I PUT MY VEHICLE IN THE MAZDA SHOP LAST YEAR 2017 FOR A RECALL AND I MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING I FELT IN MY BRAKES THEY TOLD ME THAT IT MAY BE DUST AND BY DRIVING IT WILL GO AWAY,MAZDA KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT THEN.MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OURISMAN MAZDA DEALERSHIP ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY BRAKE BOOSTER & MASTER CYLINDER LABOR IS $709.47 AND THE PARTS ARE $537.98 AND THE BRAKE FLUSH IS $202.61 TOTAL $1450.06 AND MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN OCTOBER 2018. I THEN CALLED MAZDA AND I SPOKE TO A MS.JENNIFER A CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE REPRESENTATIVE AND SHE SAID SHE WOULD CHECK INTO IT.I THEN CALLED BACK TO OURISMAN MAZDA AND SPOKE TO MR.EMERSON AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE SPOKE TO MS JENNIFER AT MAZDA AND THAT MY OUT THE DOOR PRICE WOULD BE $553.16 AND THEY HAVE ALREADY ORDERED THE PART ,THEY STATED MAZDA CALLED OFF THE RECALL AND DID A 7 YEAR WARRANTY OR 90,000 MILES MY CAR IS NEITHER OF THEM FOR A 2012, THEN THEY WANTED TO SAY ITS BECAUSE WHEN MY CAR WAS PURCHASED? THEN TO TELL ME THAT WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN LAST YEAR FOR A RECALL IF IT WAS NOT MAKING A PROBLEM THEY WERE NOT GOING TO LOOK FOR ONE? ON THESE ROADS,MY CHILDREN,MY GRAND CHILDREN AND THE LIVES OF ALL PEOPLE I,AND I'M SURE A LOT OF PEOPLE FEEL .I HAVE BEEN SICK AND WITHOUT A LOANER CAR AND THIS IS UNEXCEPTABLE I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM.MY CONTACT PERSON WITH OURISMAN MAZDA IS MR.EMERSON 240-863-2429 AND MY CONTACT INFO FOR MAZDA CUSTOMER REP IS JENNIFER 800-222-5500 PROMPT 2 THEN EXT 1133 (1-1930090754) THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE PUT BACK ON, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A EXTENDED WARRANTY.THIS CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH,HOW DARE THEM PUT A PRICE ON THIS.
BRAKES WERE OCCASIONALLY 'TIGHT', HAD TO BE PUSHED VERY HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES IT SOUNDED LIKE AIR WAS BEING PUSHED OUT. CHANGED PADS AND BRAKE FLUID, FLUSHED THE AIR OUT. ONLY MADE IT WORSE. NOW THE BRAKES ARE CONSTANTLY 'TIGHT' AND AFTER LEARNING THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE I'M GOING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER. RIDICULOUS THAT SO MANY ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND MAZDA ISN'T RECALLING THIS PART!
VACUUM POWER BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE, MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND MY CAR STALLED. THERE IS A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS PROBLEM - NOT A RECALL - I NEVER KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. A CONSUMER MUST BE NOTIFIED OF A RECALL BUT NOT A WARRANTY EXTENSION BUT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WHO MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT YOU DO NOT ASK TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND WHEN IT FAILS YOU ARE IN DANGER. I APPRECIATE THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BUT I HONESTLY THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THERE WAS NO PROPERTY DAMAGE - I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE SOME RECONSIDERATION REGARDING THE DECISION NOT TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM.
THE BREAK BOOSTER WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE
FUEL PUMP FAILURE CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE AND TO DIE IN MOTION ON A RURAL HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED OFF THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I PARKED MY MAZDA AFTER COMING BACK FROM MY LUNCH BREAK AND NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS A LOT HARDER TO PUSH. I ALSO HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM WHAT SEEMED LIKE THE PEDAL. IT SOUNDED LIKE I WAS LETTING AIR OUT OF A BALLOON. AFTER WORK, WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING STALL, I NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE STILL VERY HARD TO PUSH. THE NOISE WAS ALSO STILL HAPPENING, BUT IT WAS LOUDER. I DECIDED NOT TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE UNTIL I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC. WHEN MY MECHANIC STARTED MY VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO TEST DRIVE IT, THE NOISE WAS GONE, BUT HE ALSO FELT THAT IT WAS VERY HARD TO APPLY MY BRAKES. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD BRAKE BOOSTER. AFTER THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED, I RESEARCHED COMMON COMPLAINTS WITH THIS, AND DISCOVERED THAT IT IS ALSO AN ISSUE IN THE EARLIER MODELS (2010 AND 2011) THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY RISK THAT I WOULD LIKE INVESTIGATED. THANK YOU!
LETTER FROM SENATOR GARDNER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING HIS CONCERNS ABOUT A DEFECTIVE BRAKE DESIGN SYSTEM WHICH EXISTS IN THE MAZDA CX-9. *LD *JS
VIRTUALLY COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING. QUICK ONSET. APPARENTLY THE SAME UNDERLYING DEFECT AS INVESTIGATED IN 2008-2011 (INCORRECTLY CLOSED) AND IN TSB #SSP93 NHTSA ID #10117767. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR IN FOR ANOTHER ISSUE (RECALL) IN MARCH; BUT DID NOT FIX THIS ISSUE (NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK OF IT -- UNLESS THE CUSTOMER BRINGS IT UP (PERSONAL COMMUNICATION 7/3/2018). NHTSA STAFF SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THAT THE 2012 TSB IS ESSENTIALLY A CONTINUATION OF THE CORE ISSUE FROM 2008 ONWARD. A FAILING BOOSTER SHOULD INCREASE THE EFFORT TO BRAKE, IT SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO RESULT IN COMPLETE LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY!
AT JUST OVER 90,000 MILES I HAD TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE IS POSTING. AS DESCRIBED BY MECHANIC IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TRANSFER CASE IS PLACED JUST ABOVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER (WHICH THROWS OFF ALOT OF HEAT) AS A RESULT OIL IN TRANSFER CASE COOKS OVER TIME AND GEARS ARE DESTROYED. MAZDA DID NOT PROVIDE A WAY TO REPLACE AND OR CHECK THIS FLUID WITHOUT TAKING DOWN THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. MECHANIC SAID I WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN AT ROUGHLY ANOTHER 80-100,000 MILES. YEAR AND A HALF LATER I NOTICED A VERY SOFT BRAKE. I REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND DRUMS, AND BRAKE FLUID. I HAVE A VERY HARD BRAKE WHICH THEN SPORATICALLY GOES SOFT. AGAIN I LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE AND FOUND AGAIN MAZDA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND EXTENTED WARRANTY TO 90,000 MILES. AGAIN I'M JUST OVER THE WARRANTY ALLOWANCE AND NOW MY BRAKE POWER BOOSTER AND POSSIBLY MASTER CYLINDER NEED TO BE REPLACED. BOTH ARE KNOWN ISSUES BY MAZDA. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS THE LUCKY ONE WHO WAS THE BENEFICIARY OF BOTH PROBLEMS JUST OVER THE 90,000 MILE WARRANTY. I REACHED OUT TO MAZDA TO REQUEST SOME ASSISTANCE WITH AT LEAST THE COST OF THE PARTS ON THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER. I WAS GIVEN A QUICK NO BY MAZDA. VERY FRUSTRATING SINCE THESE ARE BOTH KNOWN PROBLEMS AND THEY WILL NOT AT LEAST WORK WITH ME ON THE PARTS COST.
I WAS DRIVING TO GET LUNCH FROM WORK AND WENT TO STOP AT AT TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A VERY BUSY ROAD AND MY VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP. THE PEDAL WAS HARD AND I HAD TO PUSH IT ALL THE WAY DOWN AND NARROWLY MISSED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I DROVE CAREFULLY BACK TO WORK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SHOP. IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS STILL FAIRLY NEW AND IT SEEMED ODD. I SAW SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND IT SCARED ME. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT!!
AWD TRANSFER CASE UNIT FAILURE THE TRANSFER CASE OF MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9 FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT CRUSISING SPEED CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE FIRST SIGN OF FAILURE WAS A HEAVY BURNED OIL ODOR. THE ODOR WAS CAUSED BY A LOT OF OIL POURING OVER THE EXHAUST PIPE WHICH ALSO WAS A DANGER OF FIRE. AFTER INSPECTION MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A LEAK AND THE COUPLING SPLINES BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE POWER TRANSFER CASE AND THE RIGHT DRIVESHAFT WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED, THIS CORROSION WAS NOS EVIDENT FROM OUTSIDE BECAUSE EITHER THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSFER CASE ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND THE DRIVESHAFT IS INSERTED THROUGH THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT INTO THE TRANSMISSION, BUT FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT AND TRANSFER CASE INPUT PARTS WHICH ARE MADE OF STEEL ARE BADLY CORRODED AND GOT SEVERELY WORN WITH A LOT OF RUST ACCUMULATION IN PLACE, WHICH IN TIME WILL CAUSE A TRACTION LOSE THAT WOULD SEVERELY COMPROMISE DRIVING SAFETY. MAZDA ISSUED A BULLETIN TO ADDRESS THE POWER TRANSFER CASE UNIT BUT IS LIMITED TO 7 YEARS OR 90000 MILES WHICH IS A LOW MILEAGE FOR A PROBLEM LIKE THIS TO DEVELOP AND WHEN THE OWNER TRIES TO TAKE ACTION MAZDA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. I THINK THI IS A MANUFACTURING QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE SINCE ITS COMPLETELY BEYOND THE ACTIONS OR FAILURE OF THE OWNER TO FOLLOW A PROPER MAINTENTANCE SCHEDULE SINCE THE OWNERS MANUAL DOESNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HTTPS://STATIC.NHTSA.GOV/ODI/TSBS/2014/CSC-10055535-7382.PDF MAZDA DOES NOT HAVE A SERVICE SCHEDULE FOR THIS PART AND IS CONSIDERED TO BE MANTENTANCE FREE HOWEVER, IF THE ISSUED THE SERVICE BULLETIN IS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THIS PART HAS POTENTIAL ISSUES. THE INVOLVED PARTS SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY MAZDA SINCE IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURE PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
THE TRANSFER CASE IS LEAKING AND GOING TO GO COMPLETELY OUT ON MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9, I NOTICED THE SAME GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEM IN MY 2004 MAZDA 6 WAGON. THE CAR FEELS LIKE DRIVING A STICK, IT JOLTS WHEN SHIFTING TO DRIVE AND WHILE MOVING IT FEELS LIKE IT IS SHIFTING EARLY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MAZDA BUT A RECALL IS YET TO SURFACE FOR THIS ISSUE.
APPLY WITH THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS PRESSED. CAN WILL CONTINUE ROLL, AND IN SOME CASES, BECOME VERY HARD TO STOP. SO FAR, NOT HIT ANYTHING, BUT HAVE HAD ISSUES ON NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP AT STOP LINES EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS.
I JUST HAD ONLY 33K MILES ON MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9, THE TRANSFER CASE BROKEN FROM INSIDE YESTERDAY MORNING (FRIDAY APRIL 6TH 2018) WHEN I COMMUTE FROM HOME TO WORK. I WAS DRIVING ON A NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD GO STRAIGHT. FIRST THE LOUD NOISE RAISE FROM UNDER HOOD THEN THE SUV LOST POWER. LUCKILY I HAVE ROOM TO PULL OVER AND PARK IT AT SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT DID PUT ME AND PUBLIC IN DANGER BY THE FAULTY TRANSFER CASE. I HAVE TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO GET MY SUV TO AUTO SHOP. SERVICEMAN CALLED ME THIS MORNING AND TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE BAD TRANSFER CASE.
THE BRAKING SYSTEM DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY RESULTING IN A CRASH. BRAKES WERE HARD AND COULD NOT BE DEPRESSED WHEN A VEHICLE STOPPED QUICKLY IN FRONT OF ME. TOOK THE CAR TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER UNDER A "SPECIAL WARRANTY". THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT NHTSB REOPEN THE INVESTIGATION ON THIS PROBLEM AS IT DOES NOT ONLY INVOLVE 2010 AND 2011 CARS AND DOES NOT ONLY OCCUR IN "HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES". VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND WAS SLOWING ON AN SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE. VEHICLE IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 53,000 MILES.
I WAS GOING 10MPH TO STOP IN FRONT OF MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL TO PICK HER UP WHEN MY BRAKES WERE DIFFICULT TO APPLY. I HAD TO USE BOTH OF MY FEET TO STOP MY CAR FROM CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HEARD A HISSING SOUND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKE. THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH ABS LIT UP AND THEN MY CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS SCARED AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES WHEN NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND TRIED TO DRIVE AWAY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I LEFT MY CAR AT A GAS STATION FOR A TOW TRUCK TO GET IT. I WAITED FOR THE CAR TO BE TOWED AND GOOGLED WHAT HAPPENED. TURNS OUT OVER 50 OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEN WITH THE SAME CAR AND YEAR. THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WENT OUT BETWEEN 43000-50000 MILES. SOME SCENARIOS WERE WORSE THAN MINE. THEY WERE DRIVING FASTER THAN 10 MPH AND COULD NOT STOP THE CAR IN TIME OR AT ALL. THERE IS NO RECALL AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID BECAUSE I MOVED TO GUAM FROM WASHINGTON I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. I HAD IT REPLACED AND IN DECEMBER AND STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT. THE PART THEY REPLACED IS FAULTY TOO. AND THEY ORDERED A NEW PART. SO ITS SITTING TILL THE PART ARRIVES ON THE ISLAND OF GUAM. THIS SITE I WAS ON HAS LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THE BRAKES ARE A BIG ISSUE IN A CAR. HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/MAZDA/CX-9/2012/BRAKES/SERVICE_BRAKES.SHTML
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS. MY RPM'S WENT UP TO 4 AND WOULD DROP DOWN WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS. WITHIN MINUTES MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CAR BASICALLY SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO TRY AND DRIFT TO THE SHOULDER IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. WHEN I GOT TO THE SHOULDER THE CAR STARTED SMOKING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME MY WATER PUMP WENT AND LEAKED FLUID THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE, RESULTING IN ME NEEDING A NEW $8,000 ENGINE. THEY TOLD ME THAT MAZDA DESIGNED THE CX9 WHERE THE WATER PUMP IS IN THE ENGINE BLOCK BEHIND THE TIMING BELT AND IT IS NOT SOMETHING THEY CAN EASILY INSPECT WHEN I BRING MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE. SO WHEN A WATER PUMP GOES ON THESE MAZDA CX-9'S IT RESULTS IN THE CONSUMER NEEDING A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THERE ARE NO INDICATORS THAT WILL NOTIFY YOU IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WATER PUMP TO AVOID THIS FROM HAPPENING. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED WITH VEHICLES GOING AT HIGH SPEEDS. MY CAR BASICALLY SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED AND I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO BETTER ASSIST ME GETTING OUT OF THE WAY OF THE HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC.
IF WATER PUMP FAILS THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING OR ANY TYPE OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ALERT. COOLANT WILL FLOOD CRANKCASE IMMEDIATELY AND RUIN THE ENGINE . THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING CREATING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE POTENTIALLY CAUSING A COLLISION.
THE MAZDA CX 9 CUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. IT ALSO HAS CUT OFF AT LOW SPEED TURNS. IT RESTART SOME TIMES. SOMETIME IT WILL NOT FOR A FEW MINUTES. BEEN LEFT IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF US 27 SOUTH OF SEBRING FLORIDA AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT STALLED. THE RPM FLUXUATES AT TIMES AND THE VEHICLE SURGES. DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN IN THE CENTER LANE AND IT JUST CUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. NO ENGINE CHECK LIGHT OR WARNING PRIOR TO CUTTING OFF.
BRAKES DO NOT STOP VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY, IT IS HARD TO APPLY BRAKES.
THE MAZDA CX9 THAT WE PURCHASED HAS A ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHEN WE GO TO STOP.. MAZDA HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY.. WE HAVE HAD 2 BRAKE BOOSTERS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. WE FEEL THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND MAZDA HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. THEY TELL US NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT KNOW ALSO HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH SQUEAKING AND GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM THE CAR. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED.
AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL, TRANSMISSION SWITCH FAILURE, THROTTLE BODY FAILURE, BRAKE FAILURE
TAKATA RECALL - FAILURE TO REPLACE IN A TIMELY MANNER AND PREVENTED FROM CARRYING PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CAR. CANNOT SELL / TRADE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THE BAG(S) IS / ARE REPLACED.
POWER BOOSTER MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE. FIRST, SPONGY PEDAL ATTRIBUTED TO MASTER CYLINDER WITH NO FLUID PRESENT. AFTER REFILLING HYDRAULIC FLUID, PEDAL WAS BETTER FOR A DAY OR TWO THEN LOUD NOISE COMING FROM CABIN IN VEHICLE WHEN PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. (IT GOES TO THE FLOOR AND BECOMES VERY LOUD.) SOUNDS LIKE AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM TO EARLIER MODEL YEAR.
BRAKE BOOSTER, HISSING NOISE AND HARD BRAKE. NO WARNING, BRAKES DON'T STOP WELL. BRAKE BOOSTER CONTINUES LOSING VACUUM PRESSURE AS LONG AS THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. I HAVE NOTICED ONLINE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS AND A KNOWN PROBLEM.
MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL) COMES ON WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF EVAPORATING SYSTEM / LOOSE GAS CAP. MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTICS FEES, A GAS TANK PRESSURE TEST AND 3 GAS CAPS LATER AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. I NOTICED A FEW ONLINE FORUMS WITH SEVERAL OTHERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE ACROSS A WIDE RAGE OF YEARS AND MAZDA MODELS. THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH MAZADA EVAPORATING, FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS. THE DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. BEYOND REPLACING THE GAS CAP AND COLLECTING A DIAGNOSTIC FEE.
HISSING SOUND WHEN BRAKING IN MOTION OR PARKED. WHEN DRIVING UP TO AN INTERSECTION AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY ABOUT 20 MPH CAR WOULD NOT STOP NO MATTER HOW HARD I STEPPED ON THE PEDDLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SLOW BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT CAR LUNGED FORWARD WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR MY DAUGHTER AT SCHOOL. IT LUNGED UP AND NEARLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME! SCARIEST THING IN THE WORLD TO NOT BE ABLE TO BRAKE!!
TAKATA RECALL - I'VE RECEIVED 3 RECALL NOTICES, BUT MAZDA SAYS PARTS ARE STILL UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A LIFE-THREATENING RECALL ISSUE.
WHEN BRAKING THE BRAKES ARE EITHER HARD AND DO NOT WORK OR BRAKES ARE SPONGY, WILL SLOW VEHICLE, BUT WILL NOT GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE THAT THEY WILL STOP THE VEHICLE LIKE THEY SHOULD. WHEN BRAKING AT TIMES YOU CAN HEAR A HISSING, MAYBE ALL THE TIME, BUT WHEN THINGS ARE HAPPENING YOU AREN'T LISTENING FOR A HISSING SOUND. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND IN PARK IF YOU REALLY PUT YOU FOOT TO THE FLOOR A BEEPING ALMOST LIKE AN ALARM SOUND IS MADE. THIS BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE SHOULD BE A MAJOR CONCERN. 8-13-2017 I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65 MPH IN LITE TRAFFIC ON A DOWNGRADE AND SLIGHT CORNER WHEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME LOST A TIRE AND I NEEDED TO BRAKE QUICKLY AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WOULDN'T MOVE, IT WAS HARD AS A ROCK, NEVER SLOWED THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THANK GOODNESS I HAD PLENTY OF ROOM TO MANEUVER, OTHERWISE WHO KNOWS WHAT THE RESULT OF THAT ACCIDENT MAY HAVE BEEN. ANOTHER TIME WAS 8-30-2017 I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE, APPROX 20 MPH, AND WAS APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION OF OUR SUBDIVISION AND THE HWY WHERE THE TRAFFIC TRAVELS AT 55 MPH, I WENT TO BRAKE AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.... AGAIN NO BRAKES. MY VEHICLE ROLLED TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT NOT BEFORE I CROSSED INTO THE SECOND LANE OF CROSS TRAFFIC. AGAIN THANK GOODNESS IT WAS AROUND 6:30 AM AND TRAFFIC WAS FAIRLY LITE. MIND YOU THIS IS ONLY TWO OF THE MORE EXTREME TIMES. I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER AND IT WILL BE INSTALLED THIS WEEKEND. I DID TRY TO CONTACT MAZDA, BUT AFTER SITTING ON HOLD, 1-800-222-5500, FOR OVER 18 MINUTES THE PHONE FINALLY RINGS.....UNTIL IT DISCONNECTS.

THE CAR BREAKS BECAME HARD TO PUSH STARTED HISSING AND WOULDN'T RESPOND TO BREAK TILL THE PEDAL WAS ALMOST PUSHED TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO WARNING. WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY.
TAKATA AIRBAGS RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE IN MARCH 2017. HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED FOR REPAIR AS OF JUNE 16, 2017.
BRAKES HAVE BECOME VERY SQUISHY AND UNRESPONSIVE AND THERE IS A HISSING SOUND WHEN DEPRESSED. THIS IS A 2012 MAZDA BUT IT ONLY HAS 23.5K MILES ON IT. THIS HAPPENED ALL OF A SUDDEN AND WITHOUT WARNING AND MAKES THE VEHICLE VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. IT IS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, WILL BE TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR UNDER SUPPOSED EXTENDED WARRANTY.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED SHOWERING DRIVER WITH GLASS SOME UNEXPECTEDLY SHARP. COULD HAVE EASILY LOST CONTROL OF CAR AND CRASHED. RECEIVED CUT NO MEDICAL TREATMENT.
MY BRAKE BECOMES REALLY STIFF WHEN PUSHED. THIS SPECIALLY WHEN COMING TO A STOP WHERE YOU HAVE TO USE ALL YOUR ENERGY TO MAKE THE CAR STOP. MY WIFE USE THIS CAR WITH 2 YOUNG KID 5 AND 1 AND ONE ON THE WAY. THIS REALLY WORRIES ME SPECIALLY THAT ITS HAPPENING TO A LOT. IT MAY NOT SEEM A LOT TO MAZDA BUT ITS A LOT FOR THE CONSUMERS SPECIALLY WHEN LIVES ARE AT RISK. PLS FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ITS TOO LATE . I WAS EVEN THINKING OF TRADING TO THE NEW 2017 MAZDA BUT NOW I HAVE DOUBTS
PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW FROM DAVIS MOORE MAZDA- WICHITA, KS. FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS WE HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE ENGINE STALLS AS WELL AS COMPLETE ENGINE STOPPING WHILE DRIVING, CITY, HIGHWAY, TURNING ETC. HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THEIR SERVICE DEPT. MANY TIMES AND THEY KEEP SAYING IT IS FINE ( THE LAST TIME THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY HAVING 8 OZ TOO MUCH ENGINE OIL IN IT). WE HAVE LESS THAN 12,000 MILES ON IT TO DATE BECAUSE WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY REAL SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK FOR EACH SERVICE DEPT. VISIT. LAST TWO VISITS WE WERE TREATED LIKE WE WERE MAKING THIS STUFF UP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY YEAR SINCE PURCHASING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO ENGAGE CORRECTLY. THE PEDAL FELT STIFF AND THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS FAULTY AND THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED A CASE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
MY BREAK PEDAL FEELS AS IF IT BECOMES STIFF AND I HEAR A HISSING NOISE COMING FROM THE PEDAL. MY BREAKS WILL NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO REMOVE MY FOOT AND REAPPLY PRESSURE FORCEFULLY IN ORDER FOR THE BREAKS TO WORK. IT DOES THIS IN REVERSE, GOING DOWN AN INCLINE OR FLAT SURFACE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE MY CHILD WAS WITH ME. PLEASE REPUIREVA RECALL OR LIVES MAY BE AT STAKE.
BRAKE PEDAL INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT DEPRESS AND WILL NOT STOP THE CAR FROM GOING FORWARD. BRAKE RESERVOIR FULL. MULTIPLE TIMES DURING A SINGLE DRIVE. VERY UNSAFE.
WITHOUT WARNING THE BRAKES BECAME SPONGY AND DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL. STOPPING DISTANCE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED AND A HISSING NOISE WHILE BRAKES PEDAL DEPRESSED. TOOK IT IN FOR EVALUATION AND DIAGNOSED WITH BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE.

BRAKES FAILED. ATTEMPTS TO STOP ONLY SLOWED VEHICLE DOWN UNLESS EXTREME PRESSURE APPLIED. PEDAL STOPPED HALFWAY. OCCASIONALLY ABS ACTIVATED DUE TO EXCESSIVE FORCE REQUIRED TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL. REPAIR WITH REPLACED BRAKE BOOSTER. IMMEDIATELY FAILED AGAIN BY MAKING NOISE ON DEPRESSION THOUGH VEHICULAR IS STOPPING. DEALER ORDERING ANOTHER BOOSTER AND WILL NEED TO RETURN FOR REPAIR AGAIN WHEN IT COMES IN.

TAKATA RECALL. MAZDA SAYS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE BUT THEN SAYS "DO NOT ALLOW PASSENGERS TO RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA". DO NOT GIVE ANY IDEA AS TO WHEN PARTS AVAILABLE. MY CAR HAS LIMITED USE TO ME IF I CAN'T ALLOW PASSENGER IN FRONT SEAT. IS THERE ANY RECOURSE?
BRAKES ARE HARD TO PUSH. IT FEELS AS IF PRESSURE IS PUSHING UP AS I PUSH DOWN
BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME VERY STIFF AND HARD TO DEPRESS. CAR WAS IN MOTION AND OCCURRED AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN FROM 30MPH TO 20MPH TO ENTER AN ACTIVE SCHOOL ZONE ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD. AFTER COMING TO A STANDSTILL AND REPEATEDLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL A HISSING SOUND COULD BE HEARD EMANATING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AREA.

UPON DRIVING MY VEHICLE, IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP AT ALL TIMES. I HAD TO USE BOTH FEET TO STOP AT A EMERGENCY STOP AND ALMOST HIT A CAR PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. THERE WAS NO STOPPING THIS VEHICLE USING THE BREAKS. I HAVE MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN THAT TRAVEL WITH ME, THIS PROBLEM WAS A HUGE THREAT TO THEIR SAFETY AND LIVES. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF OTHER DRIVERS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. BEFORE MY CAR CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE BREAK BOOSTER. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING CONSIDERING THE AGE AND MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE, BUT NO RECALLS. WITH NO OTHER CHOICE I HAD HIM FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE MECHANIC I PAID TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE DEFECT IN THE BREAK BOOSTER, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY QUESTIONS TO YOU ARE, HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE THEIR LIVES AND LOVED ONE'S LIVES PUT AT RISK IN ORDER FOR A RECALL TO BE ISSUED? IS IT CHEAPER TO HAVE A LAW SUIT OR TO ISSUE A RECALL?
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON 6/2016 AND CALLED IN TO SCHEDULE OR REMEDY THE PROBLEM ON 07/18/2016, I TOLD THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED. CALLED BACK ON 9/20/2016 PART WAS NOT ORDERED BECAUSE PERSON IN CHARGE OF DOING SO WAS FIRED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED AGAIN AND THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED. AGAIN, I CONTACTED MAZDA ON 10/2016 AND AGAIN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS INACCURATELY ORDERED AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME ONCE IT WAS REORDERED AND RECEIVED. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL FROM MAZDA AND AM VERY TIRED OF GETTING THE RUN AROUND. I NEED TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE.
I HAD TO PUSH HARDER AND HARDER ON MY MAZDA CX9 BRAKE PEDAL FOR MY CAR TO SLOWDOWN AND TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP . THIS HAPPENED WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND THE BRAKE IS GETTING WORSE EVERYDAY ON MY WAY TO WORK . ON THE DAY WHEN I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE MECHANICS , I HAD PRACTICALLY PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR THE CAR TO STOP . IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD AND MORE SO AT EVERY TRAFFIC LIGHT . I TOOK MY CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS WITHIN ONE HOUR SINCE I DIDN'T BELIEVE THE FIRST ONE AND WANTED A SECOND OPINION . THEY BOTH TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO REPLACE IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I JUST DON'T HAVE BRAKE ON MY CAR ! THEY SAID THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN A CAR WITH ONLY 59,000 MILES . THE FIRST MECHANIC EVEN HAD ME SIGNED A WAIVER SINCE I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO FIX THE BRAKE AND WANTED A SECOND OPINION . I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1062,07 TO FIX THE BRAKE . UNFORTUNATELY THE SECOND MECHANIC GAVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC WITH THE COST OF $843 AND TWO DAYS TO ORDER THE PARTS SINCE IT WAS ON SATURDAY AND RECOMMENDED ME TO LEAVE THE CAR IN THEIR GARAGE . AND TO MAKE THE THING WORSE MY MAZDA DEALER SERVICE IS NOT OPEN ON THE WEEKEND . I GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT THAT THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE HAS HAD HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER MAZDA CX 9 OWNERS AND NO RECALLS HAD EVER BEEN ISSUED . I DO HAVE PHOTOS OF THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOST AND MASTER CYLINDER BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD .
DROVE ~600 MILES WITH A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER. FOUND OUT VIA INTERNET THAT MAZDA HAD PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS DEFECT. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I TOOK THE CAR TRIED TO FIND THE PART IT WAS ON BACKORDER WITH MAZDA. THE MAZDA SERVICE MANAGER AT PRESTON MAZDA, JOHN ROSENSTEEL, HAD ONE OF HIS PEOPLE DRIVE TO BUTLER, PA FROM BOARDMAN, OH TO PICK UP THE PART. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND THE CAR WAS READY TO GO WITH A NEW BOOST UNIT BY FRIDAY. THIS WAS ALL DUE TO THE EFFORTS OF AN EXCELLENT SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP. MAZDA FAILED ME AS A CUSTOMER BY NOT HAVING THE BRAKE BOOSTER IN STOCK EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SUBJECT OF MULTIPLE FAILURES AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
THE SUNROOF ON MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9 SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED AS IT WAS JUST SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. NO ONE WAS NEAR THE CAR OR DRIVING IT. THERE WAS A LOUD "BOOM"'AND THE SUNROOF LOOKS LIKE IT EXPLODED OUTWARDS. *TR
WHILE BRAKING NORMALLY FOR A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKES BECAME HARD TO PRESS AND DID NOT STOP THE CAR AS NORMAL. HISSING FROM THE PEDAL AREA WAS HEARD AND THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED HALFWAY THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AFTER NEARLY STANDING ON THE BRAKES.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE TURNPIKE AT 70 MPH AT NIGHT MY ENTIRE DASH BOARD, INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER, WARNING LIGHTS AND TEMPERATURE CONTROLS AND HEAD LIGHTS AND BACK LIGHTS WENT BLANK AND DARK. PULLED OFF ROAD AND SHUT ENGINE OFF. WAS GOING TO CALL ROAD SERVICE, BUT TURNED ENGINE ON AND EVERYTHING CAME ON. DROVE ANOTHER 15 MINUTES AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD AND HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT. PULLED OFF ROAD AND SHUT OFF ENGINE AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND ALL WAS WORKING AGAIN. GOT HOME SAFELY WITHOUT MORE PROBLEMS. SAME PROBLEMS WITH DASHBOARD DURING DAYLIGHT THEREAFTER. TOOK CAR TO DEALER ASAP WHERE ALL MY SERVICE HAS BEEN DONE SINCE CAR BOUGHT NEW. DEALER HAD CAR 4 DAYS AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM UNTIL THE THIRD DAY WHEN ONE OF THE MASTER TECHNICIANS DROVE THE CAR 30 MILES TO HIS HOME. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WENT BLACK AT NIGHT. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THEY THINK THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM BY SOME COMPUTER ADJUSTMENT TO A SENSOR. REALLY GOT NO DETAILS OF WHAT WAS WRONG AND WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS STARTED A FEW DAYS AFTER DEALER HAD CAR FOR THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS SAFETY RECALL 851G AND OTHER ROUTINE SERVICE SUCH AS OIL CHANGE, WHEEL ALIGNMENT, MULTI POINT INSPECTION AND BATTERY REPLACEMENT TO NEW BATTERY. ALSO TIRE ROTATION. OVERALL A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, A PICK UP TRUCK REAR ENDED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. IN TURN, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A THIRD VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000.
BRAKES FELT HARD/STIFF AND VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP AS EXPECTED. ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES TO SLOW DOWN.
LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID; BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO PUSH. UNABLE TO STOP CAR; HISSING NOISE AT BRAKE PEDAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD METAL TO METAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE GEARS FAILED TO SHIFT CORRECTLY AND THE OIL AND ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND WORSENED. THE CONTACT ALSO SMELLED FUEL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE HAD TROUBLE ACCELERATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
AT 44,000 MILES, BRAKES FEEL HARD AND VEHICLE BRAKES SLOWER THAN IT SHOULD WAS NEARLY IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS. IT TOOK A MUCH LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP. EMERGENCY REPAIR AT LOCAL SHOP INDICATED BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. MAZDA SHOULD RECALL
BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING BREAK ABILITY TO FAIL COMPLETELY. CAR COULD NOT STOP. REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V451000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SPONGY AND STOPPING POWER DIMINISHED CONSIDERABLY. HEARD A LOUD HISSING SOUND FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. HAD TO FULLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP QUICKLY.
BRAKE BOOSTER - WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES (ANY TIME OF DAY) THERE WAS A STRANGE HISSING NOISE, LIKE AIR BEING RELEASED FROM A BALLOON. IF THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED CLOSER TO THE FLOOR THERE WAS A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL. BRAKES BECAME VERY HARD TO PRESS AND THE CAR BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARD IN FRONT OF ME. A REPAIR SHOP INSTRUCTED ME TO CHECK BRAKE FLUID (WHICH WAS SLIGHTLY LOW, AND I FILLED IT). THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. BRAKES ARE EVEN HARDER TO PRESS. FROM RESEARCH I SEE THAT MAZDA HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME YEARS NOW. THEY SHOULD RECALL THESE CARS AND REPLACE THE BOOSTERS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. WE HAVE FOUR KIDS IN OUR HOUSE AND THIS IS OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I WILL BE LEFT REPLACING THIS ON MY OWN.
BREAKS SLOWLY STRTED TO GET HARFER TO PRESS , HERE AND THERE AND LAST FRIDAY WENT TO TAKE NY KIDS TO THE STORE AND A COUPLE NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS TAGED ALONG WHEN I GOT TO THE INTERSECTION MY BREAK PEDAL WOULD NOT PRESS DOWN SO THANKFULLY NO CARS WERE COMING AS I SLOW ROLLED THROUGH THE STOP SIGN ON A VERY BUSY FAST SPEED HIGWAY . CALLED MAZDA AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD ISSUES . PLEASE IF U NOTICE ANY BREAK ISSUES GET THEM FIXED RIGHT AWAY THIS STORY COULD HAVE ENDED MUCH DIFFRENTLY WITH THE LOSS OF 5 KIDS KILLED BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A RECALL JUST A COMMON COMPLAINT AT THIS POINT IT WAS UNDER INVESTAGATION AT ONE POINT . MAZDA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND SEND LETTERS TO OWNERS OF THIS ISSUE .LET ME NOTE MAZDA WAS QIUCK TO GET IT N AND FIXED AND GAVE ME A RENTAL . THANK U FOR THAT BUT ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS HOW ALL THIS COULD HAVE ENDED .
BRAKE BOOSTER - I HAD ISSUES PRESSING ON MY BRAKES, LIKE A BOOK HAD BEEN PLACED UNDERNEATH PREVENTING ME FROM FULLY APPLYING PRESSURE TO STOP MY VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WOULD BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, GO DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND IN TRAFFIC AS I SAT ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN MY CAR WAS STATIONARY, I WOULD APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND COULD HEAR A VERY LOUD HISSING SOUND AS THOUGH SOMEONE WAS LETTING AIR OUT OF MY TIRES. LUCKILY I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT, HOWEVER, IT ALMOST HAPPENED ON A FEW OCCASIONS. WHEN I CALLED MAZDA TO HAVE MY CAR CHECKED OUT, I WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WITH THE CX-9 AND I WAS ADVISED TO BRING MY CAR IN.
THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THE MAZDA CX-9 BECAME VERY VERY HARD TO PUSH. ALSO, WHILE I WAS STOPPED COMPLETELY WITH THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN, THE BRAKE WOULD TEMPORARILY RELEASE ITSELF AND I HAD TO USE TWO FEET ON THE PEDAL TO GET THE CAR TO COMPLETELY STOP! THIS SHOULD WARRANT A COMPLETE RECALL AS I ALMOST DRIVE INTO BUSY INTERSECTIONS TWICE SO FAR!
BRAKES BECAME STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO PRESS. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, LOUD SQUEALING NOISE HEARD FROM INSIDE THE CAB. STOPPING DISTANCE AND BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSION CONTINUE TO WORSEN AS TIME PASSES. THIS HAS NOW BECOME SO BAD THAT WE CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR SAFELY.
BRAKES FEEL HARD AND VEHICLE BRAKES SLOWER THAN IT SHOULD. IT TOOK A MUCH LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP. HISSING SOUND FROM PEDAL. FOUND NUMEROUS DESCRIPTIONS ON SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE BOOSTER TEAR. DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS WAS NOT RECALLED.
POWER BRAKES ARE GOING OUT. WHILE DRIVING THE POWER ASSIST ON THE BRAKES GOES OUT. YOU HAVE TO PUSH AS HARD AS YOU CAN TO GET ANY STOPPING ABILITY AND THEN THEY WILL WORK FINE AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY BUT FREQUENTLY. THE CAR HAS 75,000 MILES.
I OWN A 2012 MAZDA CX9 . MY WIFE WEIGHS ABOUT 105LBS AND ABOUT 115LBS WITH HER USUAL LAP DOG. INITIALLY THE PAX SEAT AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHEN SHE WAS IN THAT SEAT, CAR IN MOTION OR NOT. THE LIGHT WAS NORMAL WHEN I SAT IN THAT SEAT. TOWNE MAZDA RAN A TEST ON THE COMPONENTS. THEY INFORMED ME THE SYSTEM CHECKED NORMAL. HOWEVER, THE LIGHT AFTER THAT THEN ILLUMINATED EVERY TIME SHE OCCUPIED THE PAX SEAT. THE PROBLEM WAS DEMONSTRATED TO A SERVICE TECH; THE LIGHT WAS OFF WITH HIM IN THE SEAT (A LARGER MAN THAN ME) AND ON EVERY TIME MY WIFE SAT IN THE SEAT. SHE ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT HER POSITION, BUT NO POSITION DELETED THE LIGHT. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEALER WOULD CHECK WITH MAZDA, TO SEARCH FOR A SOLUTION. AFTER MONTH OF USING THE CAR, THE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON CONTINUALLY WHEN MY WIFE OCCUPIES THE PAX SEAT. THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR TOLD ME TO PUT HER IN THE BACK SEAT BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
THE BRAKES HAVE BECOME VERY HARD TO PUSH, IT TAKES ALL MY MIGHT TO GET CAR TO STOP, AND THERE IS A SQUEALING SOUND WHEN PEDAL IS PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN. FEELS AS IF CAR ISN'T GOING TO STOP.
BRAKE FAILURE AT 60K MILES (POSSIBLY EARLIER). I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALER 2 MONTHS AGO AND WAS TOLD FRONT AND REAR PADS AND ROTORS HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THEY FELT INCONSISTENT BUT I THOUGHT THEY NEEDED TO SETTLE IN. THEN THE POWER BOOST BEGAN TO FAIL AND A HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE COMES FROM THE BOOSTER IF THE PEDAL IS HELD DOWN. IT HAS LURCHED FORWARD WITH MY FOOTRR ON THE PEDAL WHILE AT A FULL STOP. I NOW PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHEN AT A STOP. GETTING IT TO STOP IS THE PROBLEM. VERY ,VERY DANGEROUS.
WE HAVE NOTICED THE DIFFICULTY IN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PAD ALONG WITH THE HISSING NOISE OVER THE PAST 1 MONTH AND IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECAME STRONGER. INITIALLY YOU BRUSH IT OFF THINKING YOU ARE IMAGINING IT. TODAY ON A HILL THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT SO TRAFFIC WAS BARELY MOVING, I STARTED TO LEAVE MORE AND MORE DISTANCE WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AS IT WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES. FINALLY I HEAR A STRANGE NOISE AND THEN COMPLETE QUIET AND MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER NOTICES TOO AND AS I RELEASE THE BRAKE TO MOVE I REALIZE THE CAR ENGINE HAD DIED (THE ENGINE HAS NEVER GIVEN ANY INDICATION OF ISSUES BEFORE) BUT THE ENGINE DASH LIGHTS WEREN'T ON INDICATING THERE WAS NOT POWER WHICH OF COURSE MEANS NO POWER STEERING EITHER, A QUICK SHIFT TO N AND RESTART AND ALL IS FINE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. THE HISSING NOISE AND DIFFICULT DEPRESSION CONTINUED HOWEVER WHILE ON THE HILL WHEN I DID PRESS HARD ENOUGH FOR THE BRAKES TO RESPOND THEY DID SO AS THOUGH BYPASSING THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM AS THEY WOULD JOLT INTO THE STOP. VERY CONCERNING AS THE DISTANCE TO STOP HAS INCREASED, WHAT IF A PERSON WALKED IN FRONT OF ME MUCH LESS IF I'M ON THE FREEWAY AND COME UPON A SUDDEN NEED TO STOP. BUT HERE IT IS A SATURDAY EVENING AND HOW AND WHEN CAN I DEAL WITH AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT CLEARLY IS REPEATED. I WONDER HOW MANY OUT THERE HAVE NOT TAKEN THE TIME TO REPORT, HAVE SPENT MUCH ON REPAIRS OR SIMPLY TRADED IN THEIR VEHICLE TO COME IN TO THE HANDS OF SOME OTHER UNSUSPECTING CONSUMER. ACTION TRULY IS NEEDED BEFORE SOMEONE'S LIVES ARE CHANGED FOREVER.
WITH NO WARNING AT ALL THE POWER BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. TO STOP THE CAR YOU HAVE TO ALMOST STAND ON THE BRAKES. WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL YOU ALSO HEAR A VERY FAINT HISSING NOISE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THERE IS NO WARNING OF THE BRAKE FAILURE. UNLESS YOU ARE A VERY STRONG PERSON THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY.
THE BRAKES HAVE BECOME VERY HARD TO PUSH, IT TAKES ALL MY MIGHT TO GET CAR TO STOP, AND THERE IS A SQUEALING SOUND WHEN PEDAL IS PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN. FEELS AS IF CAR ISNT GOING TO STOP. THIS OCCURED ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO DOWNSHIFT TO SLOW CAR AND GET OFF HIGHWAY
I NOTICED THAT AT VERY SLOW SPEED (BACKING OUT, EASING FORWARD) THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY HARD, DID NOT DEPRESS, AND CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP. I DID NOT HAVE MUCH OF A PROBLEM AT REGULAR (60 MPH) SPEED. ONLY ONCE WAS THERE A LOUD HISSING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER TOLD ME BRAKES WERE FINE BUT THE CAR DID NOT DRIVE FINE. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME I NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS. UPON CHANGING BRAKE PADS, I WAS TOLD THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS BAD AND CAUSING THE PADS TO WEAR ABNORMALLY FAST AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY WORSE WITH THE NEW PADS. DEFINITELY A PROBLEM AS I WAS ONLY AT 31,000MI. I DIDN'T NOT RETURN TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE MECHANIC DO THE REPAIR RIGHT THEN. WHAT I THOUGHT WAS MINOR MAINTENANCE TURNED INTO A $500 REPAIR. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 7YR/90,000MI ON THE BRAKE BOOSTER IF DIAGNOSED AND FIXED BY A DEALER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND A LOUD SQUEALING NOISE EMITTED. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL NUMEROUS TIMES, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,300. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK. WHEN I INITIALLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE CAR BEGINS TO ROLL AS IF I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL. I HEAR A HISSING SOUND NOW WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS RAPIDLY DETERIORATED IN JUST 1 WEEK. SOMETIMES, I AM NOT ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT ALL. I WILL BE TAKING MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. 4.9.16
MY WIFE COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT HER BRAKES BECOMING HARD TO THE POINT SHE COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. I THEN TOOK HER CAR FOR A DRIVE AND WHILE IN MOTION I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES BECAME SO HARD I HAD TO USE AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF FORCE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS REALLY DIMINISHED STOPPING POWER WHEN THIS OCCURS. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PUSHED MORE THAN ONCE IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME SUCH AS STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.THE VEHICLE ALSO MAKES A HISSING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE A BAD BRAKE BOOSTER. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
I RECEIVED A LETTER IN SEPTEMBER 2015 REGARDING A RECALL THAT INVOLVED THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND THE DANGERS THAT COULD BE INVOLVED, BUT THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF PARTS BEING AVAILABLE 6 MONTHS LATER. NO DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE MY VEHICLE AS OF YET HOWEVER ANOTHER SNOWY WINTER IN ILLINOIS HAS PASSED AND THE DANGER OF "SALTWATER INTRUDING INTO THE BALL JOINT, CAUSING CORROSION, WHICH CAN RESULT IN GENERATING LOOSENESS OF THE BALL JOINT IN THE FITTING". THE RESULT OF THIS CORROSION, ACCORDING TO THE RECALL LETTER, CAN CAUSE THE BALL JOINT AND LOWER ARM TO SEPARATE CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND INCREASED CRASH RISK. I THINK 6 MONTHS IS AMPLE TIME TO PRODUCE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THESE VEHICLES AND TO SAVE LIVES AND IT IS INCREDIBLY IRRESPONSIBLE OF MAZDA TO NOT EXPEDITE THIS FIX.
THE BRAKES HAVE BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO PUSH. THEY SLOW DOWN THE CAR, BUT REQUIRE INTENSE PRESSURE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. THERE IS ALSO A SLIGHT HISSING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT TAKES ABOUT TWICE THE DISTANCE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THAN PREVIOUSLY. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM ON THE DASHBOARD; NO WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN DISPLAYING, BUT SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG. I DO NOT FEEL VERY SAFE WHEN DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V451000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE VEHICLE PRESENTS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE BRAKE PEDAL GETS EXTREMELY HARD TO DEPRESS AND THE EFFECT IS MINIMAL. THE VEHICLES STOPPING DISTANCE IS SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED; IF PRESSED HARDER THE PEDAL WILL SUDDENLY GET SOFTER AND THE BRAKE POWER INCREASES UNEXPECTEDLY JERKING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A LOUD HISSING NOISE NOTED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE HISSING NOISE COMES FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CABIN IN THE VICINITY OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL. MAZDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE IDENTIFIED CONCERNS IN THIS AREA. OF COURSE WE OPERATE UTILIZING TOMBSTONE MANAGEMENT THEORIES; ONLY RECOGNIZING A PROBLEM ONCE SOMEONE IS KILLED.
MAZDA RECALL 8515G ( NHTSA CAMPAIGN NO 15V451) I CALLED MAZDA MOTOR CORPORATION IN JANUARY 2016 REGARDING THE ABOVE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE RECALL PARTS IN QUESTION TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND POSSIBLE REPAIR. I INQUIRE AS TO WHY MY VEHICLE WAS NOT CALLED IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIR AND TO MY AMAZEMENT I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH PARTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND AS SOON AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE THEY WOULD BE NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES IN FOR REPAIR. RECALL, IT HAS BEEN 7 TO 8 MONTHS SINCE THE NHTSA PUT THIS RECALL OUT AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY CORRESPONDENCE FROM MAZDA REGARDING THE REPAIR OF MY VEHICLE. THE LAST CORRESPONDENCE WAS A NOTIFICATION LETTER DATED SEPTEMBER 2015 REGARDING THE RECALL. I FEEL THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN POSTURING ON MAZDA'S PART. HOW LONG DO YOU HAVE TO WAIT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED !! PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER SOMEONE'S LIFE COULD BE AT STAKE HERE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR POSSIBLE ACTION IN THIS MATTER.
WHEN PUMPING GAS IN THE FUEL TANK, THE GAS SPEWS OUT WHEN THE PUMP STOPS. THIS CAUSES THE GAS TO SPILL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, AN ABNORMAL SOUND COULD BE HEARD. IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL DESCENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID. UPDATED 03/18/16*LJ *JS
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN PARKING LOT. CAR WAS IN DRIVE, FOOT LIGHTLY ON BRAKE WAITING ON CAR IN FRONT TO VACATE PARKING SPOT. ENGINE SUDDENLY SURGED AND TRANSMISSION MADE STRANGE SOUND. BARELY AVOIDED RUNNING OVER AN ELDERLY PEDESTRIAN. THIS IS ABOUT 4-5 TIME THE CAR HAS DONE THIS IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS USUALLY WHILE WAITING IN A LINE OF CARS WITH FOOT ON BRAKE.

BRAKE PEDAL MAKES HISSING SOUND WHEN DEPRESSED LIKE AIR LEAKAGE; INTERMITTENTLY VERY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL WITH A LOT OF FORCE APPLIED (TYPICALLY IF PUMPING BRAKE), LEADING TO INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE/DIFFICULT STOPPING. OCCURS WHEN BRAKES DEPRESSED (SOFT PEDAL, AIR HISSING); IF DEPRESSED AGAIN IN QUICK SUCCESSION, VERY HARD TO PRESS WITH SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED STOPPING POWER. OCCURS WHETHER VEHICLE STANDING OR IN MOTION. *JS
ON JANUARY 7,2015 I WAS DRIVING ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESS WAY MERGING OFF THE RAMP BACK ONTO THE HIGH WAY WHEN I COULDN'T BREAK. MY BREAKS DIDN'T WORK. I KEPT ON PRESSING THEM DOWN AND NOTHING WAS WORKING. TRUCKS WERE ALL HONKING AT ME BECAUSE I WAS MERGING WITHOUT STOPPING. FINALLY I WENT OFF THE RAMP ONTO THE GRASS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A RECALL REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. NEVER GOT ANYTHING IN THE MAIL FROM THEM STATING OF SUCH THING.I TOOK THE CAR IN AND I DON'T OWN THE CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE I WAS BEYOND AFRAID AFTER THIS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 90 WEST IN MASSACHUSETTS, 5 MILES FROM ROUTE 84, OUR AWD CX-9 STARTED MAKING A VERY LOUD WHINING NOISE. WITHIN 10 SECONDS, THE CAR STARTED BUCKING, MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD; I COULD NOT MAKE IT TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE BECAUSE OF THE CAR'S CONDITION. ONCE THE CAR STOPPED, WE SMELLED BURNING FLUID AND SOME SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE VENTS INSIDE THE CAR. THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE ON ITS OWN, THE WHEELS SEEMED LOCKED AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS EXTREMELY LOUD WHEN IN DRIVE OR NEUTRAL. I HAD TO CALL 911. THE MASS STATE HIGHWAY PATROL ARRIVED AND HAD TO PUSH US OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE THE MASS STATE POLICE HALTED ALL TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY FOR THIS TO OCCUR. WE SAT IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE FOR AN HOUR WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. THIS ENTIRE SITUATION WAS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD A TODDLER IN THE CAR WITH US. THE HIGHWAY WAS ONLY MOVING AROUND 35-40 MILES AN HOUR AND SLOWING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE MASS STATE HIGHWAY PATROL AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER STATED THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE SPUN OUT OR FLIPPED IF THE HIGHWAY WAS MOVING AT SPEED DUE TO SUCH A CATASTROPHIC STEERING FAILURE. THE CX-9 HAD STARTED MAKING A OCCASIONAL QUIET WHINING SOUND IN THE DAYS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, ON OUR DRIVE FROM VIRGINIA TO MASS . THERE WAS NO OTHER WARNING, NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH AT ALL. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE CLOSEST MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN INTERNAL FAILURE IN THE TRANSFER CASE. THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER OUR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, AS THE CAR ONLY HAD 28,764 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AND IS 3 YEARS OLD.THE MAZDA DEALER SAID THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS TRANSFER CASE FAILURES IN AWD CX-9S. I WANT TO SEE THIS PART RECALLED BECAUSE THIS FAILURE CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MY FAMILY.
MY BRAKES ARE FAILING. I FIRST NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE SPONGY AND THERE WAS A HISSING SOUND IN THE CABIN. THEN THE BRAKES BECAME VERY HARD. I WAS VERY AFRAID I WAS GOING TO HIT VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME. ALSO, EVENTUALLY THE CAR WOULD DIE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT IS THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER. THIS IS VERY COMMON. PLEASE, PLEASE RECALL THESE VEHICLES. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM.
THE VEHICLE PRESENTS A FAILURE IN THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH GETS HARDER TO PRESS AND THE BRAKE POWER IS DIMINISHED, IF PRESSED HARDER THE PEDAL WILL GET SOFTER AND THE BRAKE POWER INCREASES BUT THE SENSATION OF RELIABILITY AND SAFETY WHEN BRAKING IS AFFECTED. ALSO, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED HARD A HISSING SOUND IS HEARD.
CAR WOULD NOT STOP WHEN BACKING OUT OF GARAGE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF CAUSING THE CAR TO ROLL OFF THE DRIVEWAY AND INTO THE SIDE YARD. WE TRIED TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK INTO THE GARAGE BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL RESISTANCE WAS INCONSISTENT - FROM FIRMER THEN USUAL TO LESS FIRM - MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED, A "HISSING" SOUND IS AUDIBLE. THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS LOSING VACUUM. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS IS A KNOWN MAZDA ISSUE, BUT THEY CONTINUE TO MANUFACTURE THIS CAR WITHOUT A CORRECTION. THERE SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ABLE TO TELL ME DEFINITIVELY IF THE NEW BRAKE BOOSTER HAS THIS FLAW CORRECTED. THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE A FATALITY.
AS I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED MY BRAKES MAKING A HISSING NOISE OF ABOUT DAY. THEN, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD AND THEY FAILED TO WORK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED TO THE LEFT WITHOUT WARNING AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,804.
THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
BRAKES PREMATURELY FAILED AFTER FEELING NUMB AND SQUISHY. UPON DIAGNOSTIC BY A LOCAL MECHANIC, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER HAD A LEAK. IN ADDITION, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON WHEN THE SYMPTOMS WERE PRESENT. ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR $1250.
CAR OF 3YR 8MTH < 40K MI. BRAKE NOT EFFECTIVE, FADE VERY QUICKLY, ATTEMPT TO LIFT AND REAPPLY BRAKE MAKES THING WORSE. HARDER TO BRAKE. HEAR HISSING NOISE, SIMILAR TO COMPLAINED BY OTHERS HERE. MAZDA NEEDS TO RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, BRAKES DO NOT STOP COMPLETELY. THERE IS A HISSING SOUND WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. BRAKES FEEL HARDER TO PRESS THAN USUAL.
WE EXPERIENCED WHAT SIMILAR MAZDA CX9 OWNERS HAVE REPORTED: OUR BRAKES STIFFENED, PROVIDED RESISTANCE COUPLED WITH A HISSING NOISE, AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER, DESPITE HAVING A FULL BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND SUFFICIENT BRAKE PADS. OUR MECHANIC REPORTS FAILURE OF THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BLOWER. WE EXPERIENCED THESE EVENTS SUDDENLY AND WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION.
BRAKE PEDAL GOT HARD VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP NO WARNING LIGHTS ALMOST REAR ENDE VEHICLE BRAKE FAILURE
BRAKES MAKING HISSING SOUND AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STALLED WHILE WAITING ON A LIGHT. AFTER SOMETIME CAR STARTED BUT BRAKES WERE HARD AND HAD TO PRESS REALLY HARD FOR CAR TO STOP.
MY BRAKE FEELS LIKE IT HAS AIR UNDER IT AND IS HARD TO PRESS DOWN ON. IT ALSO MAKES A HISSING SOUND. WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, IT FEELS LIKE MY CAR IS TRYING TO MOVE. I AM SCARED MY BRAKE WILL FAIL OR NOT WORK WHEN I PUSH ON IT. I NOTICED THIS ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. I THOUGHT IT WAS NOTHING AT FIRST BUT IT IS STILL DOING THIS AND MORE FREQUENTLY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I AM WORRIED SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN TO MY CHILDREN OR ME IF MY BRAKES FAIL BECAUSE OF THIS.
IN JUNE, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WOULD MAKE A HISSING SOUND, LIKE AIR BEING RELEASED FROM A TIRE. RECENTLY, THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELS SOFT AND I HAVE TO STEP ON IT ALL THE WAY FOR THE CAR TO SLOWLY SLOWDOWN. BEEN IN VERY CLOSE SITUATIONS RECENTLY. I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID AND IT WAS LOW, SO I REFILLED IT AND TOOK IT OUT FOR A DRIVE... THIS DID VERY LITTLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL MAKES A HISSING SOUND AND FEELS VERY SPONGY. IT IS NOW MAKING A BRAND NEW SOUND TOO. WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY, IT MAKES A WHISTLING SOUND. VERY HIGH PITCH WHISTLING SOUND LIKE A LOT OF AIR IS TRYING TO SQUEEZE OUT OF A TINY HOLE. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THEY NEED TO GET THIS CAR RECALLED BECAUSE I USE IT TO TRANSPORT MY LITTLE ONES AROUND.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TODAY. WHEN I APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HAD TO PRESS IT VERY HARD FOR THE CAR TO STOP. GOOD THING THERE WAS NOBODY IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM. AS I STARTED TO GO AGAIN AND PROCEED TO ANOTHER LIGHT, AS I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL, I HEARD A 'HISSING' SOUND COMING FROM THE PEDAL. IT ALMOST SOUNDED LIKE AIR COMING OUT OF A TIRE. THIS WAS ALARMING TO ME BECAUSE I FELT AS IF MY BRAKES WERE GIVING OUT. I HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE AND AS IT BRAKED, IT WAS SO SUDDEN IT SHOVED ME FORWARD IN THE SEAT. I TOOK IT RIGHT OVER TO OUR SERVICE SHOP IN TOWN, AND AFTER HE TOOK THE CAR FOR A TEST DRIVE, HE DROVE IT RIGHT BACK AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS GOING. HE ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TO CALL AAA AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. I MANAGED TO GET IT BACK HOME, VERY SLOWLY, AND INTO THE GARAGE. THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING TO ME BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER ALSO DRIVES THIS CAR ON OCCASION AND WHAT IF THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING?! IN READING ALL THE POSTS WITH CUSTOMERS HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES, I THINK MAZDA NEEDS TO RECALL THIS PART BEFORE THEY HAVE A BIGGER LAWSUIT ON THEIR HANDS! I WILL BE CALLING THE DEALERSHIP FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING.
UPON STARTING CAR AND PUTTING CAR INTO DRIVE, BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR INITIALLY AND HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES TO EVENTUALLY KEEP THE CAR FROM ROLLING. WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, THERE IS A HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING SOUND AS IF THERE IS A VACUUM LEAK OR SOMETHING. I SUSPECT THAT BASED ON THE OTHER COMPLAINTS AND ARTICLES I HAVE READ THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER HAS A COMPROMISED SEAL. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ITEM AND VERY SOON AS MANY PEOPLES' LIVES ARE BEING PUT IN DANGER BECAUSE OF THIS COMMON DEFECT IN THE CX9 FAMILY OF BRAKING SYSTEMS.
JUST AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE FROM PARK, NOTICED HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL AND HISSING. BRAKES HAD TO BE PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT ONLY 5-10 MPH. THEN WHILE DRIVING SOMETIMES BRAKES SEEMED TO WORK FINE AND OTHER TIMES NEEDED TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED GIVEN SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING SUCH AN ISSUE AT LOW MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO DEPRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
I REVERSED MY VEHICLE INTO A PARKING SPOT AND STARTED HEARING ABNORMAL NOISE LIKE BRAKES GRINDING, BUT WAS STILL PRESENT EVEN WHEN NOT MOVING. HAVING A CAR BACKROUND I KNEW IT WAS MORE LIKE AIR. WASN'T SURE WHAT IT WAS, BUT BECAUSE I ALREADY WORK AT A DEALERSHIP I DECIDED TO HAVE ONE OF MY DIAGNOSTIC TECHS CHECK IT OUT. HE KNEW RIGHT FROM MY DESCRIPTION THAT IT WAS PROBABLY BRAKE BOOSTER RELATED. CALLED MY DEALERSHIP THAT ALWAYS SERVICES MY CAR FOR AN EMERGENCY DROP OFF. BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, EVERY TIME I BRAKED THE PEDAL WOULD NOT GO DOWN ALL THE WAY, GO STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR, OR I'D HAVE TO DOUBLE TAP THE BRAKES SIMILIAR TO IF I WAS DRIVING ON ICE. WHEN AT STOPS I'D HEAR THE AIR NOISE FROM THE BOOSTER, AND EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS OFF THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. SOMETIMES I'D BE COMING TO A STOP AND THE BRAKES WOULD GRAB SUDDENLY AND I'D SLIDE FORWARD ON THE SEAT & MOST LIKELY INTO THE STEERING WHEEL IF I DIDN'T HAVE MY SEATBELT ON. THE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE HAPPENED AT SUDDEN STOPS, SLOW STOPS, AND THE NOISE OF AIR WAS PRESENT AT ALL BRAKING. CHECK ONLINE FOR TSB BRAKES FOR MY VEHICLE AND SEE IT IS BECOMING A COMMON THING. VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY & IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT WITH THIS BEING SUCH A WELL NOTED CONCERN & OTHER ISSUES I'VE HAD I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO.
I EXPERIENCED UNEXPLAINED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT THERE WAS ONE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME AND ONE BEHIND ME. FROM THE ONSET OF THE INCIDENT IT TOOK JUST A VERY FEW SECONDS, PROBABLY BETWEEN TWO AND FOUR, FOR THE ENGINE TO REV TO AN EXTREMELY HIGH SPEED. WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENINGS I COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTING TO MOVE FORWARD FORCEFULLY WHILE I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES VERY HARD. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK. I TURNED THE IGNITION ON AGAIN AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT A VERY HIGH SPEED. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I DECIDED TO START THE VEHICLE ONE MORE TIME. THIS TIME WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION THE VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY. I CAUTIOUSLY DROVE IT FOR POSSIBLY FIVE MILES AND PARKED IT WHERE I COULD HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS ASKED ABOUT FLOOR MATS.THE ORIGINAL FLOOR MATS WERE IN THE VERY BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND I HAD WEATHERTECH MATS, IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR, WHICH WERE ATTACHED TO HOOKS IN THE FLOOR HOLDING THEN IN PLACE. THE DEALERSHIP DID TAKE THE SITUATION VERY SERIOUSLY. THEY DID INDICATED CONCERN ABOUT HAVING THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD AGAIN. THEY TESTED THE VEHICLE FOR ANY COMPUTER CODES WHICH MIGHT INDICATE WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND NOTHING. THEY CONTACTED MAZDA AND AT THE TIME THAT I SOLD THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY HAD NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM MAZDA.
BRAKE PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND VEHICLE ALSO DIFFICULT TO STOP. DIDN'T TAKE BUT A QUICK SEARCH TO FIND MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING BASED ON THEIR DESCRIPTIONS. IT'S SO COMMON IT SHOULD ALREADY BE A RECALL. MAZDA SHOULD LEARN FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS MISTAKES AND BE PROACTIVE AND NOT REACTIVE. WE ALREADY REGRETTED PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND THIS SOLIDIFIES ARE DECISION TO TRADE IT IN AND NEVER PURCHASE A MAZDA AGAIN. *TR
PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THIS MORNING AND TRIED TO USE MY BRAKES -- HEARD A HISSING, SQUEAKING SOUND AND THE CAR DIDN'T STOP. I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. BRAKES FELT EXTREMELY SLUGGISH FOR THE REST OF MY MORNING DRIVE (DROPPING OFF MY DAUGHTER AT HER SCHOOL). AT A STOPLIGHT THE CAR STALLED, WHICH HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THE COMPUTER WAS KICKING OUT MULTIPLE CODES WHICH SEEMED TO BE RELATED TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM. HE RECOMMEND I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP B/C IT MIGHT STILL BE UNDER WARRANTY. THE MAZDA DEALER JUST CONFIRMED THAT THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE SUPPOSEDLY KNOWN FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM AND A LEAK IN THE VACUUM. MAZDA WILL REPLACE THE PARTS FOR FREE AND NOT CHARGE ANY LABOR, EITHER. VERY SCARY ISSUE -- I NEARLY HIT SEVERAL VEHICLES ON MY DRIVE THIS MORNING AND WAS LUCKY THAT THE CARS IN FRONT OF MY MOVED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. MAZDA NEEDS TO RECALL ALL CARS WITH THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED, OR WORSE. *TR
AT VARYING SPEEDS, THE BRAKES ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO APPLY. WHEN APPLIED FULLY, A LOUD SQUEALING CAN BE HEARD FROM THE DASHBOARD AREA. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A SERVICE CENTER FOR EVALUATION. *TR
VACUUM LEAK ON BRAKE BOOSTER. CAN HEAR THE LEAK WHEN DEPRESSING PEDAL. BECOMES VERY HARD WHEN DEPRESSED FULLY AND IS HARD TO STOP, THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. *TR
ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT A RED LIGHT, BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD TO PUSH, INCREASING THE DISTANCE REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, ALONG WITH A HISSING SOUND COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. WE ARE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND HAVE SCHEDULED A SERVICE WITH MAZDA. *JS
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THIS SUV WITH MY FAMILY( WIFE, 4 YEAR OLD SON, 2 YR OLD DAUGHTER), BREAKS WERE STICKY AND NOT APPLIED. I WAS ABOUT TO HIT ACROSS THE VEHICLE BUT LUCKILY I STOPPED BY USING EMERGENCY BREAKS AND MOVING SHIFT ROD TO L. I SPOKE TO MAZDA DEALER AND HE TOLD ME THAT IT IS A BREAK DEFECT AND MAZDA WILL COVER FOR IT. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS INCIDENT AND DO NOT WANT TO HAPPEN TO OTHERS. BY GOD GRACE WE SURVIVED. I CAN FEEL MY DEATH DURING THAT TIME. THANKS [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
BRAKES PEDAL BECOMES HARD AND EITHER IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH OR GOES ONLY HALF-WAY DOWN. AS A RESULT CAR DOESN'T COME TO A FULL STOP. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 3 TIMES DURING LAST WEEK, UNTIL I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I FOUND THAT THIS IS KNOWN ISSUE FOR 2010 AND 2011 VEHICLES AND THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION ABOUT IT AND INVESTIGATION WAS CLOSED AROUND JULY 2014 WITHOUT ANY RECALLS. BUT SEEMS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS FOR 2012 MODELS AS WELL AND MAZDA DIDN'T FIX IT ON NEWER MODELS. *TR
FOR THE PAST WEEK, MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9 HAS BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH NOT BRAKING. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MY IMAGINATION, BUT EVERY DAY THIS PAS WEEK, AT LEAST ONCE A DAY, I GO TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WON'T MOVE. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS STIFF AS IF I'M PUSHING ON A BLOCK OF CEMENT. IT'S VERY SCARY, AND I'VE ALMOST HIT SEVERAL CARS, AND EVEN ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN. I AM A MOM AND DRIVE WITH MY SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR OFTEN. THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT A FAMILY VEHICLE. TODAY I WAS AT A DRIVE THRU WINDOW, AND THE CAR STALLED COMPLETELY. I TURNED THE IGNITION, AND IT STARTED UP, BUT THE ENGINE WAS SHAKY, NOT IDLING RIGHT. IT FELT LIKE IT WOULD STALL AGAIN AT ANY MOMENT. I CALLED MAZDA, BUT MY CAR HAS 40K MILES, AND THEY WERE VERY RUDE AND SAID MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36K MILES. I TOOK IT TO OUR FAMILY FRIEND WHO IS A MECHANIC, AND WHEN I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE BRAKE PROBLEM AND THE STALLING, HE SAID HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG. THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE VACUUM SYSTEM ON THE BRAKE BOOSTER, AND THE STALL AND THE BRAKE PROBLEM ARE BOTH CAUSED BY THAT. I WENT ONLINE AND DID RESEARCH, AND FOUND THIS SITE, AND THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED MAZDA BACK AND GOT HE SAME RUDE SERVICE GUY. I EXPLAINED WHAT I HAD FOUND ON THIS SITE, AND HE SAID, WELL THIS MORNING WHEN YOU CALLED, YOU ONLY TOLD ME ABOUT THE STALL, YOU DIDN'T TELL ME YOU WERE HAVING BRAKING PROBLEMS. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND CHECKED MY VIN TO BE SURE MY CAR WAS COVERED UNDER THE NEWLY EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I'M TAKING IT IN TOMORROW FOR THEM TO REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND I HOPE THE NHTSA WILL DO A RECALL ON THIS!!! MYSELF OR MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT, OR I COULD HAVE INJURED SOMEONE ELSE!!! *TR
LIKE ONE OTHER INCIDENT, MY COMPLAINT INVOLVES THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO THE AWD MODELS. I WAS ON A MAJOR ROADWAY WHEN I NOTICED A LOW, STRANGE NOISE. ABOUT THIS TIME I WAS PREPARING TO ENTER A TURN LANE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED AND MADE AN AWFUL NOISE THAT LITERALLY SOUNDED LIKE THE ENGINE FELL OUT. IT THEN FELT LIKE I RAN OVER SAID ENGINE BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THANKFULLY THE LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION HAD BEEN RED AND TRAFFIC WAS SLOWING WITH ME BECAUSE I SHUDDER AT THE THOUGHT IF TRAFFIC HAD BEEN MOVING AT THE REGULAR RATE OF SPEED. MAZDA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE TWO GUYS IMMEDIATELY ASKED IF IT WAS AN AWD MODEL. THEY SAID THAT WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT, BASED ON WHAT I'D SAID HAPPENED, THEY'D BET IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE. THANKFULLY THE TC WAS STILL UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE MAZDA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. WOULD HAVE SERIOUSLY BEEN NICE TO BE ALERTED TO SUCH A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DEFECT. I WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY HAD MINE REPLACED TO AVOID BEING PUT INTO THE SITUATION I WAS IN. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING 60 MILES TO WORK WHEN MY HUSBAND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THEY BECAME VERY HARD TO PRESS DOWN AND SLOW TO STOP. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC OFF THE FREEWAY WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND TOLD US THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. WE NEEDED TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE POWER BOOST HAD FAILED. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE MAZDA DEALER WHO INFORMED US THAT IT WAS ON RECALL. WE DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE NOR DID WE KNOW ABOUT THIS. WE ARE LUCKY TO BE ALIVE THE DISTANCE THAT WE HAD TO TRAVEL. THE DEALER ALSO TOLD US TO CALL A MAZDA TOWING NUMBER AS IT WAS ON RECALL - BUT EVEN THO THE CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD - THEY SAID IT HAD TOO MANY MILES TO BE TOWED FOR FREE. *TR
WHILE MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH IN A NORMAL DRIVING PROFILE ON A CLEAR DAY 73 DEGREE DAY WITH NO PRECIPITATION, I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW AND STOP THE VEHICLE PROGRESSIVELY UTILIZING THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP AT MY INTENDED POINT AND DROVE PAST THE STOP SIGN; APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF CAR LENGTH FORWARD OF THE STOP SIGN AND INTO THE INTERSECTION. FOLLOWING THE EVENT, THE FEEDBACK FROM THE BRAKING SYSTEM THOROUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT HARD AND THE SYSTEM WAS EXTREMELY UNRESPONSIVE. IN SUBSEQUENT STOPS THE SAME AFTERNOON, I WAS FORCED TO DOUBLE MY BRAKING DISTANCE AND CAR LENGTH TO ACCOUNT FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEMS UNRESPONSIVENESS. IN THE EVENT I WAS REQUIRED TO CONDUCT A HARD STOP AT HIGH SPEED, IT IS UNLIKELY I WOULD BE ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN THE CONDITION I EXPERIENCED 9/12/14. AFTER SPEAKING WITH ANOTHER DRIVER OF THE SAME VEHICLE, THIS EVENT (WHILE MORE SEVERE) HAS BECOME A COMMON OCCURRENCE OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS. THAT IS; AN UNRESPONSIVE BRAKE SYSTEM ACCOMPANYING VARYING DEGREES OF BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE RESULTING IN UNPREDICTABLE VEHICLE BEHAVIOR AND POOR STOPPING CAPABILITY. MILEAGE 19384. *TR
ON 8/29/14, MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO MOVE WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. SCARY! AGAIN AT THE NEXT STOP SIGN, THE CAR CONTINUED WITHOUT STOPPING WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES. MAZDA TOLD ME THAT MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY SO I WENT TO A MECHANIC WHO REPLACED A DEFECTIVE MASTER CYLINDER. A WEEK LATER, MY CAR STALLED TWICE WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THEN THE BRAKES "HISSED" WHEN I PRESSED ON THEM. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY HARD TO PRESS AND THE CAR WOULD CONTINUE TO COAST EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED. SCARY FOR MY CHILDREN! THE SAME MECHANIC CALLED MAZDA, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON A BRAKE BOOSTER. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY SUCH NOTICE FROM MAZDA. MAZDA REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE SWITCH TODAY FOR FREE. ALSO NOTE, THE DAY I BOUGHT THIS CAR, BRAND NEW ON DEC 2, 2011, I DROVE ON THE TURNPIKE AND REALIZED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. I TOOK IT BACK TO MAZDA AND THEY REPLACED A DEFECTIVE TURBINE SPEED SENSOR ON MY CAR. ENOUGH! *TR
VEHICLE LOST BRAKING POWER. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN (INFANT INSIDE) FROM CHICAGO TO EVANSVILLE, IN WHEN BRAKES STARTING TO RESPOND IN A DELAYED MANNER FROM WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS ACTUALLY PRESSED. BY NEXT MORNING THE VEHICLE DID NOT BRAKE. MAZDA DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND MENTIONED THAT SOMEHOW MASTER CYLINDER AND BOOSTER FAILEDWITH NO APPARENT REASON AS THEY WERE ABLE TO TELL NO ABUSIVE OR INCORRECT USE WAS APPLIED TO THE VEHICLE. MAZDA WILL REPLACE PARTS THAT FAILED TO WORK BUT IT PLACED MY FAMILY IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
LIKE OTHERS, I HAVE BEGUN TO EXPERIENCE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHEN DEPRESSED, THE BRAKES MAKE A HISSING SOUND AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. ONCE DEPRESSED, THERE IS A DELAY IN BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WHICH POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS ALMOST AS IF POWER HAS BEEN LOST IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. CASUALLY CONSULTED WITH THE GENTLEMAN PERFORMING STANDARD MAINTENANCE (OIL CHANGE) ON THE VEHICLE TODAY. BRAKE FLUID IS FULL. TO HIM, IT SOUNDED LIKE A BOOSTER PROBLEM WHICH, IF OTHER REPORTS HERE ARE CORRECT, SOUNDS TO BE A GOOD GUESS. A RECALL IS IN ORDER. *TR
I'VE PURCHASED 2012 MAZDA CX-9 AWD IT LATE NOVEMBER OF 2011.RECENTLY I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING MULTIPLE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER-ASSISTED BRAKES FAILURE INCIDENT .I WAS IN A MINOR FENDER BENDEER. THANK GOD THE DRIVER INFRONT WAS VERY NICE AND DIDNT FILE ANY CLAIM AGAINST MY INSURANCE. WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO MAZDA SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO GET IT RESOLVE. INSTEAD OF TAKING UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER-ASSISTED BRAKES AS AN URGENT MATTER. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR IS DRIVABLE AND IT STILL BREAK. I CAN DRIVE MY MAZDA IN THE MEANWHILE, UNTIL THEY HAVE AN OPEN APPOINTMENT FOR MY MAZDA TO BE SEEN. AFTER SPEAKING TO MULTIPLE PERSONEL AT THE SERVICES DEPARTMENT. THEY WERE ABLE TO TAKE MY MAZDA AND FIXED THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER-ASSISTED BRAKES. NOW IM EXPERIENCING SPEED CONTROL AND POWER TRAIN. I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND MY MAZDA STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEFT TURNING LANE, IN ADDTION TO THE STALL INCIDENT, I WAS ALSO EXPERIENCING THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. IT FELT LIKE CAR HAD DOWNSHIFTED A COUPLE OF GEARS. I LOST FORWARD POWER IN ALL GEARS. MY SONS AND I CAME CLOSE TO MULTIPLE REAR-ENDED INCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE MECHANICAL ISSUE OF OUR MAZDA CX9. PLEASE BECAREFUL WHEN DECIDING TO PURCHASED YOUR MAZDA VEHICLE. *TR
WHILES DRIVING AND APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT OR TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKES DEPRESS AND THE CAR DOESN'T STOP, THE BRAKES HAVE TO BE PUMPED BUT THEN THEN THE BRAKES ARE HARD/STIFF SO MUCH SO THAT YOU HAVE TO PUSH REALLY HARD FOR THE CAR TO STOP. ONCE THIS HAPPENS, IT RECURS ALL THE TIME. THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON A DAY LATER, NOT SURE IF IT RELATED, I ASSUME SO FOR NOW. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON IT. I NOTICE THERE IS RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS CONDITION BY MAZDA BUT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, WHICH SHOULD BE FIXED AT ONCE. IT SEEMS TO BE A LEAST EFFORT TYPE OF RECALL NOTICE FOR AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TO SUMMARIZE, WHILES DRIVING YOUR BRAKES FAIL AND THE CAR DOES NOT STOP. WHEN YOU PUMP THE BRAKES, THEY ARE STIFF / HARD AND YOU HAVE TO PUSH DOWN REALLY HARD FOR THE CAR TO STOP. *JS
THE BRAKES HAVE TO BE PRESSED VERY HARD TO STOP THE VECHILE.. THERE IS A DELAY BETWEEN THE TIME YOU PRESS THE BRAKES AND THE TIME THAT THE BRAKES ACTUALLY START TO SLOW THE VECHICLE. YOU CAN ALSO HEAR A HISSING SOUND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. *TR
BRAKES LOST PRESSURE, REQUIRING SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN FORCE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES TO BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP. WHEN BRAKE PEDDLE WOULD BE DEPRESSED, IT WOULD MAKE A HISSING TYPE OF NOISE. *TR
MY BRAKES HAVE STARTED MAKING A HISSING SOUND AND BRAKES ARE HARD WHEN PRESSED. I EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH A 2008 MAZDA CX-9 IN WHICH THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. I NOW OWN A 2012 MAZDA CX-9 AND AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER MAY 14TH, 2014 AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE. IT NOW HAS GOTTEN WORSE AS OF JUNE 22, 2014, TO THE POINT THE BRAKE IS VERY HARD WHEN DEPRESSED AND TAKES SEVERAL CAR LENGTHS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. MAZDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND FIX THIS ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL IF THEY WANT TO KEEP THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY DID EXTEND THE BRAKE BOOSTER WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM SPECIFICALLY BUT THEY NEED TO CORRECT AND IMPROVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN THEIR NEWER VEHICLES TO MAINTAIN THE SAFETY FOR THEIR DRIVERS. I AM ALREADY CONSIDERING A DIFFERENT MAKE AND MODEL FOR MY NEXT VEHICLE. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HAPPY WITH MY MAZDA BUT NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT AND FEEL DISSATISFIED HAVING EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL THAT ARE 5 MODEL YEARS APART. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD DO BETTER TO IMPROVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM, A MAJOR SAFETY FEATURE FOR A FAMILY VEHICLE. *TR
FOLLOWING UP A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT THAT BRAKES ARE HARD AND REQUIRE LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE. I TOOK THE CARD TO THE DEALER FOR A HISSING SOUND THE BRAKES WERE MAKING AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE. I AM TAKING MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE OVER THE LAST MONTH. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR AND I HAVE LESS CONFIDENCE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED DIFFICULTY IN DECELERATING. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP THE BREAK PEDAL EXTREMELY HARD IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A HISSING NOISE THAT SOUNDED THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE DID NOT DECELERATE UNTIL APPROACHING AN INCLINE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP AT A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
MY WIFE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BRAKES ON HER 2012 MAZDA CX9 MAKING A HISSING TYPE SOUND AND BRAKES FEELING DIFFERENT THAN NORMAL. I HAVE DROVE THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THE POWER BRAKE ASSIST IS NOT OPERATING. WE LEARNED THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FOR 2010 AND 2011 MODEL YEAR AND NHTSB IS INVESTIGATING. THERE ARE AT LEAST SEVEN COMPLAINTS FOR 2012 MODEL YEAR WITH THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE INCLUDE THE 2012 MODEL YEAR IN THE INVESTIGATION FOR THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT. *TR
THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER BOOST TO THE BRAKES, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY: SOMETIMES THE POWER BOOST WOULD WORK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, SOMETIMES NOT. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO REAR-ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. IT HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. *JS
I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL MAKING A HISSING SOUND WHEN DEPRESSED, IT FILLS SOFT AND EXTREMELY HARD, WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO STOP. IF I RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL THE ENGINE REVS UP AND DOWN AT LEAST THREE TIMES MAKING THE CAR HESITATE WITH ENGINE CLUNKING AND A FEELING LIKE SOMEONE HITTING YOU FROM BEHIND. IT HAPPENS VERY SUDDEN AND UNSAFE MANNER. I HAD TWO OCCASIONS WHEN A HAD TO PRESS EXTREMELY HARD ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. I THINK THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS MECHANICAL DEFECT WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY ADDRESSED BY MAZDA. I HAD RESEARCHED ON LINE AND THERE ARE NUMBER OF MAZDA CX9 OWNERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAIN. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH THIS MATTER.. SINCERELY. AT APPROXIMATELY 25,300 MILES, MY 2012 CX9 TOURING STARTED STALLING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. IT WAS SPORADIC, BUT APPEARED TO HAPPEN WHEN I USED MORE FORCE WHEN BRAKING. WITHIN DAYS I NOTICED A VERY DISTINCT HISSING SOUND WHILE BRAKING, MUCH LIKE AIR WAS LEAKING FROM MY TIRES. AT THIS POINT, BRAKING BECAME INCREASINGLY MORE DIFFICULT, AND THE DISTANCE REQUIRED TO STOP MY CAR WAS MUCH GREATER. I ALMOST HAD A COLLISION BECAUSE I DID NOT REALIZE I NEEDED TO BEGIN BRAKING SOONER IN ORDER TO STOP MY CAR AND I VEERED INTO A GRASSY MEDIAN TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT. IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR I HAD TO APPLY BOTH FEET TO MY BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WAS NEARLY ON THE FLOOR. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FOUND THE "BRAKE BOOSTER FAILING INTERNALLY", AND IT WAS REPLACED. THE STALLING WAS DUE TO "VACUUM LEAK THROUGH BOOSTER". THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT MY BRAKES HAD A PROBLEM; NO DASHBOARD MAINTEANCE LIGHTS WERE PRESENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I JUST READ ABOUT A CURRENT BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE INVESTIGATION WITH 2010 AND 2011 MODEL YEARS, BUT 2012 NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THIS INVESTIGATION AS WELL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2012 MAZDA CX9. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES WOULD HISS WHEN BEING DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHO STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND POSSIBLY THE MASTER CYLINDER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
THE BRAKE ASSIST BOOSTER ON THIS VEHICLE FAILED. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE CITED IN A NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION INVESTIGATION OF THE 2010-2011 MAZDA CX9 VEHICLES. *TR
BRAKES NOT WORKING PROPERLY, REDUCED BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS, HARD PEDAL AND NOT STOPPING PROPERLY, AND A DEFINITE CONSTANT HISSING WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL. POSSIBLE MASTER CYLINDER ISSUE. MAZDA CX9, 2012. VERY SIMILAR TO COMPLAINTS AND ONGOING INVESTIGATION, EXCEPT FOR THIS IS A 2012. *TR
I AM UNSURE OF THE FIRST DATE OF OCCURRENCE, BUT THE FOLLOWING HAVE BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW WITH 12 MILES ON IT. AND THE DEALER CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. 1. THE AC ALWAYS COMES ON. EVEN WHEN IT'S BELOW ZERO OUTSIDE. 2. IT FAILS TO GO WHEN PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR FREQUENTLY, AND ESPECIALLY IN REVERSE, FROM A STOPPED POSITION, UNTIL YOU REALLY PUSH HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR CAUSING IT JUMP. 3. LAST FRIDAY 2/21/2014 AS I WAS ON A RAMP MOVING FROM ONE INTERSTATE TO ANOTHER, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV UP EVEN AFTER I LET OFF THE GAS, AND PUSHED THE BRAKE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THIS, IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENED AT LEAST 10-12 TIMES. IT WAS DEFINITELY THE MOST SCARY, AS I THOUGHT I WAS GOING OVER THE SIDE OF THE RAMP OR INTO THE SEMI IN FRONT OF ME FOR A MINUTE OR SO. 4. THE BRAKES SQUEAK LOUDLY WHEN IT'S COLD. 5. THE BRAKES ARE EITHER REALLY SENSITIVE, OR YOU HAVE TO STOMP THEM TO GET THEM TO WORK, SO SINCE YOU DON'T KNOW WHICH IT'S GOING TO BE YOU'RE LIKELY TO JERK YOURSELF AND YOUR PASSENGERS AROUND A LOT. 6. THE VEHICLE PULLS TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER, WHICH WOULD SEEM TO INDICATE THAT AN ALIGNMENT IS NEEDED, HOWEVER, IT CAN'T PICK WHICH SIDE IT'S GOING TO GRAVITATE TOWARDS WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT'S SOMETHING IN THE STEERING. *TR
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND SOON CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, EVEN AS I CONTINUED TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, ALL AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. AT THE SAME TIME, I NOTICED A BURNING OIL ODOR. THIS SUDDEN DECELERATION AND STOP OCCURRED IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A MAJOR CHICAGO-AREA TOLL ROAD ON A COLD AND RAINY FRIDAY EVENING. A POLICE OFFICER WHO ARRIVED AT THE SCENE WAS UNABLE TO PUSH MY CAR OUT OF DANGER WITH HIS CAR. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR WAS TOWED AWAY TO A MAZDA DEALER BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD OVERHEATED, LOST ALL ITS FLUID, AND SEIZED. THE TRANSFER CASE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND SUBSEQUENT SUDDEN DECELERATION PUT ME IN GRAVE DANGER, AND SUCH A FAILURE IS UNFORGIVABLE FOR SUCH A NEW VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT HAD THE TRAFFIC ON THE EVENING OF THE INCIDENT NOT BEEN AS HEAVY, AND THUS SLOW AS IT WAS, I VERY WELL MAY HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER MOTORIST. I URGE THE NHTSA TO CLOSELY TRACK ANY OTHER INCIDENTS CONCERNING SEIZED TRANSFER CASES IN MAZDA CX-9S--THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED UNEXPECTEDLY. THE VEHICLE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
I HAVE A MAZDA 2012 THAT SPONTANEOUSLY STALLS WHILE DECELERATING. IT ALSO STALLS PREDICTABLY ON AN INCLINE. MAZDA CORPORATION HAS STATED "THE STALLING ON AN INCLINE IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF ALL CX-9 MODELS" AND ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX IT. THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT STALLING WHILE DECELERATING IN MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE RECREATED BY THEIR TECH SO THEY ARE DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE BEEN IN TWO NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS. THE CAR LOSES POWER STEERING AND BRAKING AND THE DRIVER HAS LITTLE TO NO CONTROL WHEN IT STALLS. PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO OF A BRAND NEW (LOANER FROM THE DEALER WHILE THEY LOOKED AT MY 2012 CX-9) 2013 CX-9 (125 MILES ON IT). THIS IS THE "CHARACTERISTIC" I AM REFERRING TO, PLEASE ADVISE FUTURE BUYERS OF THIS VERY UNSAFE "CHARACTERISTIC". WHEN IT STALLS IN MY DRIVEWAY, I CANNOT BRAKE "SHARPLY" OR EFFECTIVELY ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR FROM DRIFTING INTO THE ROAD. HTTP://YOUTU.BE/PBZHVIEIHKC. *TR
INCIDENT -1 TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH DECELERATING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, THE CAR STALLS OUT LEAVING ME WITH NO CONTROL OF STEERING AND LITTLE ABILITY TO BRAKE. INCIDENT 2- MAKING RIGHT TURN (DECELERATING) CAR STALLS OUT LEAVING ME WITH NO STEERING AND LITTLE BRAKING CONTROL. INCIDENT 3- PULLED UP INTO DRIVEWAY ON SLOPE. PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT, CAR STALLED OUT LEAVING ME WITH VERY LITTLE ABILITY TO BRAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONSUME EXCESSIVE OIL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TECHNICIAN MENTIONED THAT THE CONSUMPTION OF OIL WAS UNUSUAL AND COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. *TR
THIS NAVIGATION SYSTEM DOES NOT SPEAK THE STREET NAMES MAKING ME LOOK AT THE SCREEN FOR THE NAME OF THE STREET. VERY DANGEROUS. NO HELP FROM MAZDA. THE SYSTEM NEEDS AN UPGRADE. *TR
OUR 2012 MAZDA CX9 SPORT FWD LOST ALL BRAKE BOOST ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. MY WIFE COMPLAINED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP WHEN BACKING. I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE MAZDA DEALER ADVISED IT WAS INDEED THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY MAZDA AND NHTSA. OUR VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD WITH LESS THAN 10000 MILES AT THE POINT OF FAILURE. *TR
I HAD AN INCIDENT YESTERDAY RESULTING IN A MINOR COLLISION. MY ACCELERATOR STUCK, MY ENGINE KEPT REVVING, AND I COULD NOT STOP. I KEPT APPLYING THE BRAKES BUT IT FELT AS IF EVERYTHING LOCKED UP. I REARENDED THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME NO DAMAGE TO THEIR CAR AND ONLY MINOR TO MINE. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. MY HUSBAND CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM MAZDA CORPORATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX9. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD PROVIDE MORE THAN 15 FEET OF ILLUMINATION UNLESS THE HIGHBEAMS WERE TURNED ON. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,100.
BOTH MY TAIL LIGHTS FORM CONDENSATION. I CONTACTED BOTH THE DEALER AND THE CORPORATION SEVERAL TIMES. THE CORPORATION MAINTAINS THIS IS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE THAT COMES AND GOES DEPENDING ON THE WEATHER CONDITIONS. CONSEQUENTLY THEY DON'T CONSIDER THIS A WARRANTY ISSUE, AS A RESULT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER FROM THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY USE TO REPLACE THE FAULTY UNIT UNTIL MAZDA REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THEM. THEIR EXCUSE SEEMS TO BE ABSURD CONSIDERING THE UNIT SHOULD BE SEALED. *TR

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
