Airbag waring indicator light came on. Passenger seat airbag disabled warning light came on as well. Performed a reset, and both lights stayed off for a few days, then came back on again. Took car to dealer who would not even do a brief check that day, scheduled appointment for nearly 3 weeks later. Today the dealer gave us the Code B1018 and offered an estimate of over $4300 for repairs. With all the recalls of similar Nissan airbag devices, including 2013 Nissan Murano's, I am filing this complaint because there may also be a pattern of similar failures for 2012 Murano's. I have contacted the Nissan consumer complaint center, filed my concern, and advised them we would be notifying NHTSA as well as seeking potential legal remedies. Local dealer is 5 Star Nissan in Albany GA.

PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY FLASHES. CAR HAS 28,600 MILES AND ALMOST NEVER HAS HAD A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. DRIVEN BY SINGLE, WIDOWED DRIVER. CAR IS ROUTINELY SERVICED AT DEALER. GOT A QUOTE OF OVER $5200 TO REPAIR. I HAVE READ A FEW OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THIS MODEL WITH MUCH HIGHER MILEAGE. NISSAN SAYS THEY ARE NOT TAKING NOT RESPONSIBILITY AND I SHOULD CONTACT THIS AGENCY, $5200 IS ROUGHLY MORE THAN HALF OF THE VALUE OF THE CAR AND NON-REPAIR MAKES IT UNSAFE SHOULD AN OCCASIONAL PASSENGER SIT IN THE SIT AND ALMOST NON-SALABLE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY ISSUE.
WE RECENTLY BOUGHT AN OUT OF WARRANTY, AS IS 2012 NISSAN MURANO AND THE DASH AIRBAG LIGHT AND PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT ARE BOTH ON. THEY NEVER GO OFF AFTER THE INITIAL 7 SECOND WAIT TIME. VEHICLE IN MOTION OR STANDING STILL DOESN'T MATTER. I HAVE SCANNED FOR CODES AND B1018-00 KEEPS COMING BACK AFTER ATTEMPTING TO ERASE. NORMAL SIZED PEOPLE SIT IN THESE TWO SEATS AND USE THEIR SEAT BELTS RELIGIOUSLY SO "MISALIGNED SEATING" IS NOT THE CASE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND A FEW OTHERS HAVE HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY NISSAN REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE AND SUCH BUT I'M SEEING THAT PEOPLE ARE GETTING A "OH WELL" KIND OF RESPONSE FROM NISSAN. IF THERE'S A CLASS ACTION SUIT TO GET IN, I WILL. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THIS AS OF YET BUT WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO AT LEAST SPEND BIG DOLLARS TO GET IT SCANNED AND DIAGNOSED AT A DEALERSHIP.
PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON AND WILL NOT RESET. VEHICLE HAS 116,000 MILES, CODE B1018 CODE WHICH CALLS FOR PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR AND MODULE ASSEMBLY. THIS PART IS PART OF THE SEAT ITSELF WHICH NISSAN CHARGES $4000 FOR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE NO ONE IS GOING TO PAY $4000 PLUS COST TO INSTALL JUST TO HAVE A PASSENGER AIRBAG. THIS COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH THAT MIGHT OTHERWISE BE AVOIDED IF THE COST TO REPAIR WAS REASONABLE. NISSAN HAD A FLAWED DESIGN WHERE THE INEXPENSIVE PARTS WERE NOT SEPARATE FROM THE VERY EXPENSIVE SEAT. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN HELPING OUT.
MY 2012 NISSAN MURANO HAS APPROX 119,000 MILES ON IT. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IS OFF, EVEN WHEN THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT, EVEN WHEN IT'S A FULL GROWN ADULT. IN ADDITION, I HAVE A FLASHING RED AIRBAG LIGHT ON MY DASH AS WELL. AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS OF THIS, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AS LISTED IN THE MANUAL. THEY SAID THE SENSOR WENT OUT AND THE ENTIRE SEAT CUSHION FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ~$5300. I ONLY PAID $11000 FOR THE VEHICLE TO BEGIN WITH. THERE'S NO WAY I WILL BE PAYING HALF THE VEHICLE'S WORTH FOR A BASIC SAFETY NECESSITY. I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PAY FOR ANY COSTS RELATED TO A SAFETY ISSUE SUCH AS THIS AND IT APPEARS THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY VEHICLE OWNER EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. PLEASE RECTIFY THE SITUATION AND DO A RECALL FOR THESE AIRBAGS OR FOR THE SENSORS IN THE SEAT CUSHIONS. IT'S NOT RIGHT TO PUT US ALL IN DANGER LIKE THIS.
POWER LOSS ON TAKE OFF. ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR OVER A YEAR AND IS INTERMITTENT. WHEN STARTING OFF FROM A STOPPED POSITION, IE STOP SIGN, RED LIGHT, OR HIGHWAY ONRAMP, THE VEHICLE WILL ENGAGE, BUT IMMEDIATELY LOOSE ACCELERATION. THE GAS PEDDLE CAN BE FULLY PRESSED, WITH NO REACTION. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE POWER GETS RESTORED AND VEHICLE TAKES OFF AS IF ENGAGING A JET BOOSTER. A VISIT AND DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AT A NISSAN DEALER, DID NOT REVEAL AND FAULTS OR CODES, AND ISSUE COULD NOT BE RECREATED. THIS ISSUES IS RANDOM, AND BASED ON A NISSAN OWNER FORUM, I LEARNED IT HAS PLAGUED THE MURANO AND IS LEXIS COUNTER PART FOR DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS. NO FORUM ENTRIES AS TO KNOWN CAUSE OR CORRECTIVE FINDINGS BY THE DEALERSHIPS OR MECHANICS.
ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, MY VEHICLE LOST BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE AND HAD EXCESSIVE TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR REQUIRING EXTRA DISTANCE IN ORDER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP ABS TO AVOID A COLLISION. ON ONE OCCASION, I DROVE OVER A BUMP ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. AFTER PUMPING THE PEDAL A FEW TIMES, PRESSURE WAS RESTORED. ALL BRAKE COMPONENTS ARE IN PROPER WORKING ORDER AND MAINTAINED BY AN ASE MASTER TECHNICIAN. THE MASTER CYLINDER DOES NOT SHOW SIGN OF LEAKING. A CHECK ONLINE REVEALED THAT THE 2009 MURANOS HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE (WHICH IS NOW A RECALL) THAT I AM EXPERIENCING ON MY VEHICLE AND WAS DISCOVERED TO BE A FAULTY ABS MODULE. A CHECK ALSO REVEALED THAT CERTAIN 2011 MURANO HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS THE 2009 BUT NO RECALL WAS EVER ISSUED.
MY VEHICLE IS A 2012 NISSAN MURANO WITH 111,000 MILES. THE CVT TRANSMISSION STOPPED FUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY LOCAL TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST MECHANIC REFUSED TO FIX IT BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND LAWSUITS AGAINST NISSAN DUE TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. BECAUSE OF LEGAL JUDGMENTS AGAINST NISSAN, THE COMPANY EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON MANY VEHICLES UP TO 10 YEARS AND 120,000 MILES. MY 2012 MURANO WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THOSE JUDGMENTS. I GOT THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER FOR A TOTAL COST OF $5,696.06. I CONTACTED NISSAN DIRECTLY, PROVIDED THE DOCUMENTATION THEY ASKED FOR AND ASKED FOR REIMBURSEMENT. NISSAN DID CONTACT ME, BUT REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED BY NISSAN BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE CVT TRANSMISSION. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I BELIEVE THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION FOR MY MODEL YEAR BASED ON THE OBVIOUS DEFECTS AS HAVE BEEN PROVEN BY MULTIPLE LAWSUITS AGAINST THE COMPANY.
THE DRIVE'S SIDE SUN VISOR KEEPS FLOPPING DOWN, BLOCKING DRIVING VIEW. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON ANY STREET.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EXCESSIVE PRESSURE WAS NEEDED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOW OR STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKING DISTANCE WAS EXTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC REPLACED SEVERAL UNKNOWN BRAKE COMPONENTS. THE ABS SYSTEM WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUE WITH BRAKE NOT BRAKING COMPLETELY FOR MONTHS. I TOOK IT INTO FIRESTONE TO SEE WHAT COULD BE THE ISSUE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE MASTER CYCLINDAR, I GOT THAT FIXED BUT STILL WAS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, TOOK IT BACK AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM SO IT WAS TAKEN TO GRUBBS NISSAN AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT'S THE ABS ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY AND IT WAS RECALLED FOR OTHER NEW MODELS BUT NOT MINE. HOWEVER IT'S STILL WAS A RECALL ISSUE. I FEEL IT COULD BE FIXED UNDER THE RECALL.
MY HORN OR CRUISE CONTROL IN STEERING WHEEL NO LONGER WORKS. AIRBAGS LIGHT BLINKS ONE LOND TIME AND THE 2 SHORT TIMES REPEATEDLY.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND I THEN REALIZED THAT MY SUNROOF HAD SHATTERED. GLASS SHARDS WERE SLIDING AROUND ON THE SUNROOF COVER. I CONTACTED NISSAN AFTER SEEING NUMEROUS REPORTS AND EVEN A LAWSUIT ABOUT THIS, BUT THEY DENIED MY CLAIM FORCING ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS OF A FAULT THAT NISSAN ADMITTED TO IN THE LAWSUIT.
OUR CAR HAS 60000 MILES. IT HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. THE PROBLEM THAT WE ARE HAVING WITH THIS CAR IS YOU CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SUN VISOR WILL DROP AND BLOCK YOUR VISION. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING OVER 50 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS IN ANY OTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID IT IS MY PROBLEM AND WANTS OVER 300.00 TO FIX IT. WHEN I LOOKED UP TO SEE IF THERE WAS A WAY TO TIGHTEN THE VISOR I FOUND OUT IT IS A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH MANY PEOPLE. I BELIEVE IT IS A MANUFACTURE AND A SAFETY PROBLEM. LIKE I SAID YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR VISION IS TAKEN AWAY. PLEASE GET SOMEONE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH IN GOOD WEATHER AND LIGHT TRAFFIC OUR CLOSED SUN ROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED WITH INTENSE FORCE. WHEN WE GOT OUT TO LOOK AT IT, IT WAS CLEAR THAT IT EXPLODED FROM WITHIN AS THE EDGES OF THE HOLE (ABOUT 2 FT X 1.5 FT) WERE PUSHING UPWARD. ALL OF THE GLASS WITHIN THAT AREA BLEW OUT WITH NO DAMAGE BELOW IT NOR WERE THERE ANY REMAINING GLASS FRAGMENTS BELOW IT EVEN THOUGH WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE SUNROOF WAS COMPLETELY FULL OF SMALL SHATTER LINES. WE'VE ALWAYS MAINTAINED OUR VEHICLE AND HAVE RARELY USED THE SUNROOF. OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY CARRIER REFUSED TO PAY BECAUSE IT WAS GLASS. OUR INSURANCE COMPANY DENIED OUR CLAIM BECAUSE THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF AN EXTERIOR IMPACT. NISSAN (CORPORATE) REFUSED TO COMPENSATE US BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PROOF AS TO HOW IT HAPPENED. AFTER LOOKING ON THE WEB, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE EXPERIENCE WAS VERY JARRING AS IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING BLEW UP JUST ABOVE OUR HEADS. WE THOUGHT A PLANE DROPPED SOMETHING FROM ABOVE OR SOMEONE SHOT AT OUR CAR BUT THEN REALIZED NOTHING CAME INTO THE CAR. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE NOT INJURED, DID NOT VEER INTO ANOTHER CAR, AND THANK GOD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN NEAR ANY PEDESTRIANS. WE PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED, BUT FOR ALL WE KNOW, IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AT ANY TIME.
AT 105,000 MILES, TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT REMAIN ENGAGED IN OVERDRIVE AT GREATER THAN 60MPH RESULTING IN HIGH RPM OVER 3200. DEALER INSPECTED AND STATED PAST DTC CODE OF P1778 (STEP MOTOR ISSUE/CVT SLIPPING). DEALER REFLASH CAR COMPUTER BUT SAID IF THAT DIDN'T FIX IT THE CAR WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. SEEMS ODD IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS HAPPENING WITH 2003-2010 TRANSMISSIONS BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THAT ISSUE WAS RESOLVED IN LATER MODELS.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY SUNROOF EXPLODED WITHOUT PROVOCATION. THERE WERE NO ROCKS, RAPID TEMPERATURE EXTREMES, OR NO OTHER VISIBLE REASON FOR THE EXPLOSION. LUCKILY THE SUN SHADE WAS CLOSED AND ALL OF THE GLASS WAS CONTAINED IN THE SHADE AND WE WERE ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT HANDLE THAT AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT A COLLISION CENTER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT FIX SUNROOFS. I CALLED MY INSURANCE PROVIDER WHO DID ASSIST WITH THE REPLACEMENT ROOF, HOWEVER, IT TOOK OVER TEN DAYS TO FIX. IN ADDITION THIS IS COUNTING AS A CLAIM WHICH WILL MAKE MY RATES INCREASE.
WHILE DRIVING A CANYON ROAD, MY CAR WAS WORKING NORMALLY AND THEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I PUSHED ON THE GAS AND THE RPMS WENT UP, BUT NO RESPONSE IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND I FINALLY GOT OUT OF TRAFFIC, WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. AFTER SETTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, THE CAR WORKED WITHOUT THE ISSUE FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SINCE I GOT HOME, IT RUNS FINE UNTIL IT GETS WARMED UP.
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THIS DATE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO HAD DONE THE REPAIR 5 DAYS EARLIER NISSAN OF OURSMAN OF LAUREL MD . THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ONCE AGAIN PERFOM THE SAME WAS IT DID THE 2 WEEK EARLIER WHEN THE INCIDENTOCCURRENCE ON I 295 N BOUND DEOARTIBNG WASHINGTON DC , THIS SATURDAY THE VEHICLE WAS ACTING ERRATICLY IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY LOACK FOOD LION GROCERY STORY ON 197 IN LAUREL MD, AS I DEPATED THE PARKING LOT I EXPERIENCE THE GRINDING SOULD ON AND OFF AND THE SHAKKING / VIRBRATING OF THE STEERING WHEEL TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WITHOUT ME DIRECTING IT TO DO SO...THEREFORE I HEADED OUT THE LOT TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE THEY CLOSED AT 3PM... I GOT THEIR ABOUT 1230PM, AND WASN'T RECEIVED BY THE STAFF FAVORABLE BASED .TGHIS WOULD BE A RETAKE BASED ON POOR AND INCOMPLETE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED THE WEEK BEFORE WHEN SAME VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO SAME DEALERSHIP WITH RESPECT TO ABS ACTUATOR , WHICH I FELT THE SAME ISSUES AND CONCERN BUT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE PULLED ABRUTLY TO THE LEFT IN TRAFFIC AND I ALMOST SIDE -SWIPED THE VEHICLE NEST TO ME IN THE LANE BESIDE ME.
BRAKES STOP WORKING ON OCCASSION. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGJWAY AND WINDING BACK ROADS, I TRIED TO STOP,PING, AND I HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. THE BRAKE PADA ARE NEW, AND RHE TIRES HAVE BEEN ALIGNED, AND BRAKELINES CHECKED AND THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS.
TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING. IT SLIPS BETWEEN GOING 35 MILES PER HOUR AND OVER. I JUST LEARNED THAT NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSIONS HAVE A RECALL NOTICE AND WAS CONSIDERED A LEMON. THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. I JUST EXCEED THE MILES. BUT NISSAN SHOULD RECALLED THE TRANSMISSINS AND FIXED THEM.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OURISMAN NISSAN (3514 FORT MEADE RD, LAUREL, MD 20724, (301) 725-4400) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR SYSTEM WAS ENGAGING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FIND IT WAS SPONGY AND TRAVELED VERY FAR BEFORE THE BRAKES FINALLY ENGAGED. THE CONTACT PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND AFTER FOUR PUMPS, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN BRAKE PEDAL STRENGTH AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REPORTS THAT THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS OF TRAVEL. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF A RECALL ON THE 2009 MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE PERTAINING TO THE ABS HCU UNIT.
MY MOONROOF SUDDENLY EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN STRUCK BY AN OBJECT. THERE WERE NO OVERPASSES OR OTHER VEHICLES NEARBY AT THE TIME. I WAS NOT INJURED AS I WAS PROTECTED BY THE SUNSHADE. THE GLASS SHATTERED AND APPARENTLY DISPERSED ONTO THE ROAD.
I WAS VEERING OFF A RURAL HIGHWAY IN A 2012 NISSAN MURANO ONTO A GRAVEL PARKING AREA AND STARTED BRAKING WHEN I BECAME AWARE THAT WHILE APPLYING BRAKES THE PEDDLE WAS NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO PRESS VERY HARD ON BRAKES AND IT EVENTUALLY STOPPED. I WAS PROBABLY GOING 30 MPH. I WROTE TO THE US GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA AND SPOKE SEVERAL TIMES TO NISSAN'S REGIONAL OFFICE IN TENNESSEE. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP SINCE JUNE 25 AND THEY SAY IF THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM I WILL HAVE TO TAKE CAR . ALL 3 OF THESE ITEMS ARE REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS. CVT WAS OFFERED TO OWNERS WITH 2003-2010 MODELS; HOWEVER, THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING IN LATER MODELS, INCLUDING MY 2012. NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THESE YEARS AS WELL.

VEHICLE IS MOSTLY STATIONARY IN THE GARAGE, ONLY 46K MILES FOR 2012. AIR BAG STARTING FLASHING AND WILL NOT RESET. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS, TECHNICIAN STATED LIGHT CAUSED BY FAULTY AIR BAG SENSING UNIT. TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE DIAGNOSTIC UNIT AND PASSENGER SEAT BOTTOM. $5700 AND AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK IF IN ACCIDENT.
THE CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AT THE DEALER WHERE PURCHASED NEW. OVER 6 YEARS THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE 2 MOST SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS WAS THE FAILURE OF THE RACK & PINION MECHANISM. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND MENTIONED A NOISE THINKING IT IS THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF THE REPAIR SHOP AS IT WAS UNSAFE. THE MOST RECENT EVENT WAS THE TOTAL FAILURE OF THE RADIATOR. IT LITERALLY CAME APART AND COULD HAVE LED TO ENGINE SEIZURE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED AS I PULLED OUT OF MY GARAGE AND NOTICED A POOL OF COOLANT. THERE WAS NO LIGHT OR HOT/COLD INDICATOR THAT THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING HOT. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER COSTLY REPAIR. THERE WERE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT END; TIE ROD, MOTOR MOUNT, CV BOOT, BUT THESE ARE THE MOST SERIOUS AND VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FOR ALL THESE OCCURRENCES. THE MURANO IS A TRUE LEMON.

WHILE DRIVING ON A PAVED ROAD, A LOUD EXPLOSION CONSUMED THE CAR. THE CLOSED SUNROOF/CLOSED SHADE EXPLODED SENDING SHATTERED GLASS AIRBORNE AND ON TOP OF THE CLOSED SHADE. THIS CAUSED A HORRIBLE NOISE AS THE GLASS BOUNCED ON THE SHADE AS I SLOWLY MADE MY WAY BACK HOME AND TO THE DEALERSHIP! DURING THE RETURN ROUTE, YOU COULD HEAR THE GLASS CRACKING AS IT BROKE FREE AND FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED.
THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, THEN SUDDENLY STARTED SHUDDERING VIOLENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. NISSAN NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND ASSIST THOSE OF US EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSIONS THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY FAULTY AND COSTING OWNERS SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN ACROSS A ROAD WITH 50 MPH TRAFFIC INTO A SUBDIVISION. I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN AND THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION (CVT) NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 62,000 MILES. THIS IS NOT ONLY UNSAFE, BUT UNACCEPTABLE FOR ONLY 62,000 MILES. THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $4500 TO FIX. NISSAN IS STATING THIS IS MY FAULT, AS I NEVER HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED. IN THE BOOK, THE FIRST SERVICE FOR TRANSMISSION REQUIRED IS 60,000 MILES, BUT IT STATES TO INSPECT THE FLUID. THERE ARE OPTIONAL SERVICES AT 30K MILES, BUT IT DOES NOT INDICATE THEY ARE REQUIRED.

MY CAR FAILS TO ACCELERATE WHEN TAKING OFF AT TIMES. IT HAS HAPPENED PULLING INTO MOVING TRAFFIC AS WELL AS PULLING AWAY FROM A GREEN LIGHT. SOMETIMES WHILE MOVING YOU WILL FEEL A LAPSE OF POWER AS WELL. ONE DEALER TRIED TO TELL ME IT WAS THE TIRES...NOT THE CASE. ANOTHER SUGGESTED IT IS THE CVT, WHICH IS WHAT WE THOUGHT. HOWEVER, NISSAN IS SNEAKY AND HID THE ABILITY TO FULLY DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM SINCE NO ERROR CODE IS PRESENT WITH THE PROBLEM HAPPENS. THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AND IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR, SO I HAVE STOPPED DRIVING IT ALL TOGETHER.

1ST INCIDENT- DRIVING ON MAIN STREET OF TOWN HWY 31 S, CAR SIMPLY QUIT WHILE IN MOTION, WHILE DRIVING- NO WARNING, NO LIGHTS. COULD NOT MOVE, START ETC.. HAD TO CALL POLICE TO ASSIST ME IN GETTING THE CAR OUT OF THE MAIN HIGHWAY. 2ND INCIDENT- DRIVING ON I65 S INTERSTATE, DOING 70MPH, CAR QUIT WHILE DRIVING! HAD TO THROW ON FLASHERS AND COAST IT INTO THE MEDIAN, THE COPS WERE CALLED AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MECHANIC. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE BOTH IN THE CAR AND COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.- CALLED NISSAN TO REPORT, THEY ADVISED THEY KNEW OF NO RECALLS.AND WERE UNCONCERNED JUST ADVISED TO TAKE TO MECHANIC- WHERE IT WAS. 3RD- CAR IS NOW DOING THE SAME, WILL LOOSE POWER WHEN TURNING, AND GOING UP HILLS- ALWAYS LOSES POWER/DIES WHEN IN MOTION.

THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED AT APPROXIMATELY 4:00 P.M. TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. GLASS LOOKED BUBBLED OUT. WE HAD TO COVER THE BROKEN SUNROOF BEFORE WE COULD DRIVE HOME 40 MILES OUT OF TOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BECAUSE THE SUNROOF COVER WAS CLOSED. EXPLODING GLASS SOUNDING LIKE A GUNFIRE. PHOTOS CAN BE SENT WHEN UNCOVERED BEFORE SUNROOF IS REPLACED BY A TECHNICIAN.

I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSIONS WAS A CVT TRANSMISSION AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED OR REBUILT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT $4,100+. THEY SAID THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH CVT AND NISSAN WAS AWARE OF IT AND HAD OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100K (AT A COST). THE TRANSMISSION ONLY HAD 80,000 MILES. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE WARRANTY ON THE NEW TRANSMISSION I WAS TOLD THE TRANS WAS ONLY GUARANTEEDED FOR 12,000 MILES OR ONE YEAR. IT'S SAD THAT A COMPANY IS AWARE OF A SITUATION LIKE THIS. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ONE THING TO HAVE TO PAY $1,500 TO HAVE IT REBUILT BUT TO HAVE TO PAY $4,100+ AND IT'S ONLY GOOD FOR A YEAR IS ANOTHER THING. NOW I'M IN A BIND. 2012 NISSAN MURANO WITH 90K MILES HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION JERKING AND SUDDENLY STOPPING THE CAR TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 50-65 MPH. DUE TO THIS UNEXPECTED AND SEVERE LOSS OF CAR POWER I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF FORWARD MOTION DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE CVT TRANSMISSION IS COMPLETELY UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
THE CVT TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO GET ABOVE 10 MPH AND SOMETIMES BUCKS WHEN ACCELERATION STARTS. THERE ARE 117K MIKE'S ON MY CAR AND I'M SO FRUSTRATED.
DOOR LOCK ISSUE - ALL FOUR DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS DO NOT FUNCTION, THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN GOING OVER 15 MILES AN HOUR (A SAFETY FEATURE), IF THE DOOR IS LOCKED MANUALLY, IT WILL NOT UNLOCK WHEN THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. COULD BE HAZARDOUS IF NEEDING TO LEAVE THE CAR QUICKLY.
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN WE HEARD AN EXPLOSION AND THEN SAW PIECES OF THE SUNROOF FLYING BACK BEHIND US. I WAS CHANGING LANES AS I WAS APPROACHING A CITY STREET INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND BEGAN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP. THREE SEPARATE TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS HAVE DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS DOCUMENTED CASES OF THE NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSIONS FAILING. THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME SO PREVALENT THAT NISSAN DESIGNED A SPECIAL 120K-MILE WARRANTY FOR THE CVT IN THE 2003-2010 NISSAN MURANO VEHICLES. ON 4/26/14, WHILE TRAVELING NORTH ON RT. 7 IN KENT, CONNECTICUT AT 45 MPH IN OUR 2012 NISSAN MURANO SL, MY HUSBAND AND I HEARD A VERY LOUD STARTLING SOUND, WHICH SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT AND WHAT I THOUGHT I HEARD ALONG WITH A SMASH NOISE. WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I LOOKED AT THE WINDOWS BEHIND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS THINKING SOMEONE SHOT AT US. NOTHING. WE GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE TIRES TO SEE IF A TIRE BLEW OUT. THEY WERE ALL FINE. FINALLY, A PICKUP TRUCK PULLED UP ALONGSIDE OF US TO ASK IF EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. WE TOLD HIM WHAT WE HEARD, BUT EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. HE LEFT. RIGHT BEFORE WE GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE, MY HUSBAND LOOKED UP OVER THE ROOF AND SAID, YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT, IT WAS YOUR SUN ROOF. THE ENTIRE CENTER SECTION OF THE SUN ROOF THAT IS ABOVE THE FRONT SEATS WAS A LARGE HOLE, SMASHED FROM WHAT LOOKS LIKE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR GOING OUTWARDS. WE DIDN'T SEE ANY ROCKS OR ANY OTHER DEBRIS THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT IN THE AREA, AND THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND US, NO TREES OVERHEAD AND NO OVERPASSES AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED. JUST THE GLASS SHARDS AND PIECES THAT WERE NOW SITTING ON THE FABRIC VISOR THAT SEPARATED US FROM THE GLASS. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF WHAT PEOPLE WERE CALLING "SUNROOF EXPLOSIONS" OR "SPONTANEOUS SUNROOF EXPLOSIONS." I WROTE TO NISSAN CORPORATE REGARDING MY CONCERN OF THE EXPLODING SUNROOF, AND ONLY RECEIVED A GENERIC BOILERPLATE RESPONSE STATING I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THAT WAS IT FROM NISSAN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HAZARD AND I WONDER WHY THESE INCIDENTS, WHICH ARE POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET, HAVE NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED TO DATE. *JS

PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS NOT ENGAGED. INDICATOR IS ON APPROXIMATELY 50% OF THE TIME, WHEN MY 84 POUND DAUGHTER IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS MEANS THAT 50% OF THE TIME, MY DAUGHTER IS SUPPOSEDLY NOT PROTECTED BY THE AIR BAG. THIS IS TROUBLESOME. THE INTERMITTENT, SEEMINGLY RANDOM NATURE OF THE INDICATOR DOES NOT INSTILL CONFIDENCE IN THE PROTECTION THAT I PAID FOR AND IS ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER ON 12/28/12. I ASKED THE NISSAN SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHAT WEIGHT WAS REQUIRED TO ENGAGE THE AIR BAG PROTECTION, AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT ENTIRELY A WEIGHT TEST. SHE SAID THAT YOU HAVE TO SIT JUST RIGHT ON THE SEAT. THIS SEEMED RIDICULOUS. BY ALL APPEARANCE, MY PASSENGERS ALWAYS SIT IN THE NORMAL FASHION. (HOW SHOULD ONE SIT???) IN ANY CASE, ADJUSTING THEIR POSITION DID NOT SHUT OFF THE INDICATOR LIGHT. CLEARLY, 84 POUNDS SHOULD ALLOW SOMEONE TO SIT IN THE FRONT SEAT. (THIS SEEMS LIKE A FLAWED DESIGN-I WANT THAT AIR BAG ON AT ALL TIMES). I STOW ALL OBJECTS IN THE BACK SEAT. IF SOMEONE STOWS AN OBJECT ON THE FRONT SEAT, THEY HAVE TO BEAR THE CONSEQUENCES. CERTAINTY, THE PRIORITY SHOULD BE THE SAFETY OF A PASSENGER. THE LACK OF PROTECTION IS TROUBLESOME... LOOKING AT THAT INDICATOR (SOMETIMES-BUT NEVER KNOWING WHEN) IS ANNOYING. SO TOO, ONE HAS TO WONDER ABOUT A FALSE POSITIVE INDICATOR LIGHT.. OF COURSE, SUCH WORRY COULD BE ELIMINATED WITH STRICT WEIGHT CUTOFF OF SAY, 25 POUNDS. HELLO, I AM WRITING TO YOU ABOUT A NEW VEHICLE THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED THROUGH NISSAN. IT'S A 2012 NISSAN MURANO AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON FRIDAY DEC 21, 2012. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME (WHICH IS ABOUT 50 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP) AND THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MY FAMILY TO VISIT MY MOTHER IN THE HOSPITAL AND THEN WE WERE GOING TO GO CHRISTMAS SHOPPING AT THE MALL. WHILE ENROUTE TO THE MALL I STARTED HEARING A SQUEALING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. AS I WAS DRIVING AND MAKING TURNS THE NOISE GOT PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER AND THEN THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG SO LUCKILY WE WERE CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT RIGHT IN. I MUST ADMIT, I SHOULD HAVE HAD IT TOWED BUT IT WAS POURING DOWN RAIN AND I JUST WANTED TO GET MY FAMILY TO SAFETY SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS VERY SCARY, I TRIED TO TAKE A ROUTE THAT I HAD TO MAKE THE FEWEST TURNS AND THE VEHICLE BECAME HARDER AND HARDER TO STEER TO THE POINT THAT I ACTUALLY FEARED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PROVIDED US A LOANER VEHICLE. THEY STATED THAT ONE OF THE POWER STEERING HOSES CAME OFF UNDERNEATH AND THAT IT HAD RUBBED ONTO ANOTHER BELT AND WAS NO LONGER USABLE SO THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A PART WHICH WOULD TAKE 3-4 DAYS. SINCE THIS WAS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND ROUND TRIP FOR ME IS 100 MILES I WAS VERY UPSET WITH THIS. ON MONDAY (CHRISTMAS EVE) THEY CALLED AND SAID THE VEHICLE WAS READY. EVIDENTLY THEY TOOK A HOSE OFF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND PUT IT ON MINE.(WHICH RATHER BOTHERED ME BUT IT DID GET ME BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN) MY ISSUE WITH THIS IS THAT IF WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE UP INTO THE SNOW WE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED AND WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. CAR BATTERY DIED SUDDENLY WITH NO LIGHTS OR ANYTHING ELSE LEFT ON. IT HAPPENED TWICE AND WAS EXACTLY SAME. BOTH CASES I WAS STRANDED WITH NO OTHER OPTIONS TO TOW THE CAR AND NEED TO TAKE TAXI TO GET MY FAMILY HOME, I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE ACCESS TO TAXI. DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE AND FIX THE FAULT IN BOTH CASES AND GIVE ME LAME EXCUSE SOMETHING WAS LEFT ON. FOR ME IT'S SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE MY FAMILY IN THIS CAR WITH NO CONFIDENCE THAT WHEN WOULD IT DIE AGAIN.
