Two of the four tires on the car have flaps / tears on sidewalls.
Two instances of CVT Transmission failure. First: Occurred at 102,926 miles, car only 8 years old. While driving, suddenly many warning lights came on and the car started shuddering. The lights were Check Engine, Oil Temp, Cruise Control, vehicle dynamics, and ABS. I drove my car to a transmission shop, who read the codes 2764 and and 0700. He replaced the TCC Solenoid and valve body on 11/18/2020. I drove the car for 6 more months to ~106,000 miles successfully, until... The Second Issue: On 6/6/21 while driving my car, it stopped accelerating. I couldn't go above 18 mph! This was a huge safety issue. I had to drive on major roads with a speed limit of 50mph going only 18mph, with my hazard lights on. I'm so fortunate it happened to be at 10pm on a Sunday night, or I could have gotten in an accident. Once I got home, I called AAA and had them tow my car back to my transmission mechanic (because I couldn't get to my mechanic without getting on the highway, which would obviously be unsafe at 18mph). My mechanic said it was an issue with the same solenoid again having shorted out, which means that it's actually a deeper issue with the CVT transmission burning through solenoids. The solenoid is just a symptom, not the root problem. Then, I finally googled Subaru solenoid issues, and I discovered this is a well documented problem, that has already been reported to your office, and yet Subaru has not yet issued a recall. Only an extended warranty, which only goes up to 100,000 miles so it doesn't help me!! My transmission wore out at 102,000 miles. Do you think it's a coincidence that Subaru made their warranty for 100,000? I'm lodging this complaint in hopes that your office sees the CVT transmissions are still a safety issue, and the warranty hasn't solved the problem. Please get Subaru to issue a recall! This is unacceptable behavior from a car manufacturer. Thank you.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE TRACTION LIGHT AND OIL WARNING LIGHT CAME UP ON THE DASHBOARD. INITIALLY, THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE OIL VALVE. I DID BUT THE THE PROBLEM PERSIST. NOW THE ENGINE IS HUNTING. THE DEALER INFORMS ME THAT ENGINE IS NOT PUMPING ENOUGH OIL DESPITE THE FACT THAT SERVICE HAS BEEN DONE REGULARLY AT INTERVAL RECOMMENDED BY THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP. NOW I AM TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE.
PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY REMAINS OFF WHEN PASSENGER IS SEATED IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. SOMETIMES IT APPEARS TO OPERATE NORMALLY, BUT ABOUT HALF THE TIME THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATES OFF WHEN IT SHOULD BE ON. VEHICLE MOTION DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER, WET CONDITIONS DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER EITHER. UNKNOWN WHETHER THIS IS A PASSENGER DETECTION MALFUNCTION OR A PASSENGER AIRBAG MALFUNCTION.
WHEN DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL, THERE IS A SQUEAK COMING FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD WITHIN THE FOOTWELL AREA. SQUEAK IS CONSTANT. FOR SUBARU HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN #12-190-15R TO FIX THE CLUTCH & BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY FOR MODEL YEARS 2015-2016 BUT NOT BEFORE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT A CRACK IN THE ASSEMBLY IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE AND IF LEFT UNATTENDED, ULTIMATELY COULD CAUSE DECREASED OR COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE CLUTCH AND/OR BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY. SUBARU HAS REDESIGNED THE ORIGINAL PART (#36004FG050) WITH A NEW ONE (#36004FG051) BUT HAS NOT OFFERED TO FIX UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A LIFETIME PART, WHICH IS CRITICAL TO SAFELY OPERATING THE VEHICLE, AND ANY REPLACEMENT COST TO FIX SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDLESS OF THE VEHICLE'S AGE. THE ATTACHED PICTURE IS NOT FROM MY CAR. I WAS ABLE TO FIND MANY OF THESE PHOTOS ON THE INTERNET AS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT IS OFF AT ALL TIMES. I AM PRESUMING IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING. IT USED TO TURN ON AND OFF IN THE LAST FEW YEARS AND I WAS ABLE TO FIX IT FOLLOWING THE MANUAL INSTRUCTIONS BUT NOW IT IS PERMANENTLY OFF.
WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING WOULD GO OFF WITH NO PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE, THE AIRBAG SENSOR CAN'T DETECT A PASSENGER WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ALSO, FOR WHATEVER REASON THE DRIVERS SEAT ISNT DETECTING A DRIVER SO THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. AFTER GOOGLING THIS ISSUE I SEE THAT MANY OTHER 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH NO RESOLVE.
CODE P0021 POPPED UP SHORTLY AFTER ENGINE HAD RATTLING NOISE AND SHUT DOWN. SOUND OF CILYNDER AND HEAD RUBBING AS ENGINE IS RUNNING WITH VERY LOUD SCREECHING
POWER STEERING COMES ON 20 MINUTES AFTER I START THE ENGINE AND DRIVE A FEW MILES. HAS GIVEN ME APT OF CLOSE CALLS WITH HITTING CURBS OR AWKWARD TURNS. TRY TO FIND THE PART TO REPLACE IT, BUT MOST WEBSITES SAY THAT MY CAR HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING RECALLED. TOOK TO A SUBARU DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IT'S NOT RECALLED. BUT NOBODY WILL FIX OR SELL ME PARTS DUE TO 'RECALLS' PRECAUTIONS.
WAS DRIVING AT 60 MPH NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED AND BUNCH OF LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASH WHILE DRIVING. TROUBLE CODES PULLED ON SCAN TOOL WERE P2764 AND P0700, THESE CODES INDICATED BAD SOLENOID ON CVT TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY THEREFORE HAD TO REPLACE THE CVT VALVE BODY. CAR HAS 146,000 MILES HOWEVER CVT HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND CVT FLUID REPLACED EVERY 30,000. SUBARU IS HIDING THE ISSUES WITH THE CVT MODEL TR-580 AND PURPOSELY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ONLY UP TO 100,000. I BELIEVE THEY KNOW THE CVT WILL FAIL AFTER 100K AND DON'T WANT TO PUT OUT THE MONEY TO ISSUE A PROPER RECALL. THE OPTIONS TO FIX THE ISSUE ARE EITHER CVT VALVE BODY REPLACEMENT OR FULL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WHICH ARE BOTH VERY COSTLY. SUBARU NEEDS TO ISSUE A PROPER RECALL BECAUSE I WORRY THAT MY REPLACEMENT OF VALVE BODY COULD MEAN I STILL NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE CVT TRANSMISSION IF SOMETHING ELSE FAILS ON THE INTERNALS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
MY CAR KEY GETS LOCKED / STUCK IN MY IGNITION WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPT TO TURN IT OFF. IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5 MINUTES FOR THE KEY TO BECOME FREE AND I AM ABLE TO REMOVE IT. THIS HAS BEGUN TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY RECENTLY AND NOW HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY TIME I PUT MY CAR IN PARK. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MY CAR IS STATIONARY.
TRANSMISSION WENT AT 154000 MILES EXTENDED WARRANTY NOT SURE IF I WAS TAKEN CARE OR AND NEEDED TO BY NEW ONE. IF IT IS GONNA BE A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM THEY SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT BACK THE YEARS WITH THE CVT ISSUE. YOU CAN PUT INTO DRIVE REVERSE AND PARK BUT WON'T SWITCH GEARS AND JUST REVS
PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR WILL SHOW OFF EVEN THOUGH A PASSENGER IS SEATED. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION.
WHEN WE GE A OIL CHANGE THE OIL LEVEL IS VERY LOW. THERE ARE NO OIL LEAKS ANYWHERE ON THE ENGINE THIS IS NOT WHAT A ENGINE SHOULD BE DOING.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT DETECT A PERSON SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE SENSOR WILL TURN OFF THE AIRBAG, WHILE A PASSENGER IS OCCUPYING THE SEAT. MOST OF THE TIME BETWEEN 30-45 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN IN MOTION.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT TURNS OF AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED BY A FULL-SIZED ADULT. IT TYPICALLY OCCURS ON A LONG DRIVE, WHICH IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. IT HAS ALSO OCCURRED DURING CITY DRIVING. IT ALWAYS OCCURS WHEN THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED. THE PROBLEM CLOSELY MATCHES THE DESCRIPTION OF THE 2015 RECALL ON THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM, EVEN THOUGH THE SUBARU RECORDS SHOW THAT THE REQUIRED REPAIR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RECALL WAS MADE ON MY VEHICLE AT THAT TIME. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THE CURRENT PROBLEMS MAY BE CAUSED BY A WATER SPILL, BUT I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THIS OCCURRING, AND A SAFETY SYSTEM IN A CAR THAN COULD NOT WITHSTAND A SMALL SPILL IS INCREDIBLY UNSAFE AND POORLY DESIGNED.
ON THE HEATER CONTROLS, FOR THE FAN SPEED, THE CONNECTOR ON THE BACK CAUGHT FIRE, I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT IN TIME TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. MY MOTHER IN LAW AND MY SON RIDE THAT CAR DAILY, COULD OF BEEN A DISASTER. I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW PART, REPLACED THE PLUG, AND SAME ISSUE OCCURED, STARTED SMOKING AND RUINED ANOTHER HEATER CONTROL. USED AUTO PART LOCATIONS NEAR ME REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE ON AT LEAST 3 OTHER CARS. SEE ATTACHED IMAGES.
FRONT PASSENGER ODS MALFUNCTIONS EXACTLY PER THE DESCRIPTION LISTED IN RECALL #WQT-55 UNDER SAFETY CAMPAIGN 15V419000 AND HAD MADE PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS TO HAVE IT ADDRESSED FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS NOW THROUGH SUBARU. HOWEVER MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED JUST OUTSIDE OF THE MANUFACTURING DATE RANGE OF THE RECALL. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS OTHER OUTSTANDING RECALL ITEMS AND ASKED TO HAVE ISSUE DIAGNOSED FOR THE ODS. TECHNICIANS FOUND CODE B1650, WHICH MATCHES ONE OF THE DTCS OF THE RECALL. CALLED SUBARU CORPORATE AGAIN TO REQUEST THE MALFUNCTION BE ADDRESSED AND THEY COULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR OF THE ODS AS THE VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE MANUFACTURING DATE RANGE. A COPY OF THE SUBARU RECALL HAS BEEN ATTACHED WITH THIS MESSAGE FOR REFERENCE. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A RATTLING NOISE ACCOMPANIED BY LOSS OF POWER AND A ROUGH IDLE AT LOW SPEEDS. I THOUGHT IT MUGHT BE THE IDLER PULLEY--REPLACED THAT ALONG WITH THE SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEMS. YESTERDAY IT BEGAN TO STALL AT IDLE AND LOW SPEEDS. CAR WILL NOT START. SYMPTOMS MATCH THOSE RELATED TO THE WTY 84R BULLETIN AND THE 18V772-7070 RECALL FOR BROKEN VALVE SPRINGS BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS MY VEHICLE IS NOT IN THE VIN RANGE. THE CAR IS A 2012 IMPREZA--THE PROBLEM MATCHES THE PROBLEMS FOR THE 2012 IMPREZA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS ABOUT 3 INCHES OF WATER ON THE FLOORBOARD UNDERNEATH THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE NEAR THE WIRING HARNESSES AND THE FIREWALL HOWEVER, THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE LEAK WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.*DT*JB
BOUGHT THE CAR USED 90K MILES IN 2017. IT IS NOW AT 125,000 AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. THE CAR IS ACCELERATING AND REVING EVEN WHEN DECELERATING. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD I NEED A TOTAL REPLACEMENT. I DRIVE LESS THAN 20 MI/WK WITH THE OCCASIONAL ROADTRIP. THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE LASTED FOR MANY YEARS BUT, THIS PROBLEM IS KNOWN GIVEN THAT SUBARU HAS OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTIES IN REGARDS TO THIS TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
KEY STUCK IN IGNITION AFTER PARKING.
MY POWER STEERING PUMP WENT OUT AT 57000 MILES. I HAD IT REPLACED AND MY STEERING RACK IS MESSED UP.
AT 150,000 MILES I NOTICED THAT IN THE MORNINGS ON COLD START UP I WILL GET A LARGE CLOUD OF BLUISH SMOKE THAT SMELLS LIKE IT'S BURNING, I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS INDICATIVE OF BURNING OIL. I ONLY KNEW TILL RECENTLY THERE WAS A CAMPAIGN TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND THAT IT IS NOW CLOSED BUT AT 150,000 MILES IT SEEMS LIKE IT MAY BE PRETTY EXCESSIVE.
I VERY RARELY DETAIL MY VEHICLE. ONLY ONCE WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN 2013 AND AGAIN RECENTLY. BOTH TIMES, THE SEATS WERE STILL WET FROM THE DETAILING PROCESS WHEN I PICKED IT UP. BOTH TIMES, WHILE SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHILE IT WAS STILL SLIGHTLY WET, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS SHOWED THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS NOT ON. IT DIDN'T MATTER IF THE CAR WAS MOVING OR STATIONARY. ONCE THE SEAT DRIED, THE AIRBAG APPEARED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE ATTACHED PICTURE WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
WHEN DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER THE AIR BAG FOR THE PASSENGER WILL NOT TURN ON AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL COME ON.
DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN CAR SUDDENLY STALLED. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND AFTER OPENING THE ENGINE THE FINAL DIAGNOSE WAS THAT THE VALVE SPRING FAILED
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS TURNED OFF WITH A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE SEAT WHEN THE SEAT GETS WET WHEN SOMETHING IS SPILLED, OR WHEN THE PASSENGER SITS IN SEAT WITH DAMP/WET CLOTHES BECAUSE THEY GOT WET BECAUSE IT IS RAINING OUTSIDE. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WORKS PROPERLY WHEN THE SEAT DRIES OUT IN A FEW DAYS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES , MOST RECENTLY BEING A FEW WEEKS AGO. THE LIGHT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING OR STOPPED.
2012 IMPREZA SPORT WITH 71,000 MILES, ONE OWNER, ALL MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE PERFORMED. MECHANIC NOTICED INCREASED NOISE FROM REAR OF VEHICLE WHILE DOING TEST DRIVE AFTER PERFORMING MAINTENANCE. REPORTED REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILURE AFTER INSPECTION REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF BEARINGS.

CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE, WHILE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON HIGHWAY
PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF WHILE THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AT JOHN HOWARD SUBARU IN MORGANTOWN, WV. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND AN ISSUE. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST THREE TIMES TO ME AS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. I HAVE ATTACHED TWO PICTURES OF THE LIGHTS WHILE I WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I WASN'T WETTHE INVOICE FROM THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT CHECKED IS ATTACHED AS WELL. THE LAST OCCURRENCE OF THIS WAS JULY 14, 2019. THANKS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V772000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. REDDING SUBARU (481 E CYPRESS AVE, REDDING, CA 96002) CONFIRMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF AND AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. SEAT IS NOT WET. MY 2012 IMPREZA WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL OF THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE AS THIS SENSOR FAILS QUITE OFTEN AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, A FEW OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS LIT, ENGINE OIL, ABS, AT, MIL, VEHICLE DYNAMICS. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL REVEALED A P0700 AND P2764 CODES. UNFORTUNATELY THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE ISSUE BECAUSE IS OVER 100000 MILES. THE ISSUE AS PER MY RESEARCH IS WELL KNOWN TO SUBARU. NOW THE REPAIR IS GOING TO COST ME $2500.00
SUBARU CVT - KNOWN ISSUE MY 2012 SUBARU'S CVT TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE IN MOTION AT 60MPH DRIVING IN THE LEFT HAND LANE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE. THE CAR/ENGINE HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE AS DIRECTED BY THE MAKER, HOWEVER WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANSMISSION FAILED PUTTING THE DRIVER AND THREE PASSENGER'S LIVES AT RISK. SUBARU HAS ACKNOWLEDGED ISSUES WITH THIS SPECIFIC TRANSMISSION, HOWEVER AN EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY IS NOT AN APPROPRIATE INTERVENTION WHEN POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENTS COULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING. THIS WAS A WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE WITH NO IDENTIFIABLE SIGNS THAT THE TRANSMISSION COULD FAIL. SUBARU SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THESE FAILING CVT TRANSMISSIONS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V149000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). WHILE THE CONTACT'S SPOUSE WAS DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CHECK OIL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP, IT STALLED, THE ENGINE SHOOK, AND THE RPMS WENT UP AND DOWN. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER FAILED TO PROVIDE THE PART WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V772000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). CLAY SUBARU (842 PROVIDENCE HWY RTE 1 NORTH-AUTOMILE, NORWOOD, MA 02062) WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
LEASED FROM BIZZAROS THE CAR WAS INSPECTED WITH A BROKEN SEAT BELT THERE'S RECALLS THE CAR KEEPS EATING BEARINGS AND HUBS THE CAR IS SIMPLY NOT SAFE AND BIZZAROS TOLD ME NOTHINGNESS IS WRONG WITH IT THE POWER TRAIN BRAKES AND ROTORS AND TIRES WERE FILLED TO 69PSI WHEN GOT IT
MY VEHICLE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING AND THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME AT 103,923 MILES THAT IT REQUIRES A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS IS 3,923 MILES OUTSIDE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A KNOWN TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THE QUOTE I WAS GIVEN TO REPLACE IS $8,900 (MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR). I NOTIFIED SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE. THE SAID THEY WOULD ONLY PAY $3,500 AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REST. THIS SEEMS RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD AND I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IN THE CAR WITH HIM NOW.
1. 5/12/17. RANDOM SURGE FROM STOP OR SLOW SPEED. STOPPED AT LIGHT, GENTLY STEPPED ON GAS TO PULL AHEAD, CAR SURGED HARD AND QUICKLY INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. $1500 DAMAGE TO MY CAR. 2. 1/11/18. STOPPED AT LIGHT, GENTLY STEPPED ON GAS TO PULL AHEAD, CAR SURGED VERY HARD AND QUICKLY INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THAT WAS QUITE SOME DISTANCE AWAY! AS I KNEW THE CAR HAS AN ISSUE WITH SURGING. THIS TIME $9500 DAMAGE TO MY CAR, UNKNOWN AMOUNT TO OTHER CAR. STATE FARM SHOULD HAVE TOTALED CAR, SAID INTERIOR WAS IN GREAT CONDITION. SO NOW WE HAVE TO KEEP DRIVING A CAR THAT IS NOT SAFE. 3. 3/5/18 (APPROX) THIS TIME I WENT TO PICK UP MY GRANDSON AT AFTERNOON PROGRAM, THE PARKING LOT ON HILL OVERLOOKING THE SCHOOL. STOPPED TO PARK, NEEDED TO PULL UP A BIT, GENTLY STEPPED ON GAS AND CAR SURGED HARD AND QUICKLY. IF CURB HAD NOT BEEN BIG ENOUGH, I WOULD HAVE WENT DOWN HILL INTO CLASSROOM FULL OF CHILDREN. THE RESPONSE FROM SUBARU HAS BEEN THERE'S NOTHING WRONG, JUST VERY RESPONSIVE GAS PEDAL. BS! I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS WITH NO ACCIDENTS NOW 2 IN 6 MONTHS AND I ALMOST WAS INVOLVED IN A MAJOR TRAGEDY. THIS NEEDS TO STOP NOW BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. MAKE SUBARU RECALL IMMEDIATELY AND FIX THIS ISSUE. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE, I FOUND OUT ONLINE. THE REASON WE BOUGHT A SUBARU WAS FOR SAFETY , NOW IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE.
PARTIAL LOSS OF ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING AFFECTING ABILITY TO STEER RIGHT. CAR NATURALLY PULLS TO THE LEFT (INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC) DUE TO POWER STEERING ASSIST BEING STRONGER THAT DIRECTION. DEALER INDICATES THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE (CRACKED EPS GEAR BOX), SO IT IS KNOWN. BUT THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS TOWED TO WEST HOUSTON SUBARU (17109 KATY FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77094). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS HIGH AND THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STOPPED/STALLED SUDDENLY WHILE IN MOTION, THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, DRIVERS BEHIND ME HAD TO REACT TO MY SUDDEN/FULL STOP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER FAILED TO PROVIDE THE PART WITHIN A REASONABLE TIMEFRAME FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V772000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND 19V149000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THE CONTACT HAD BEEN WAITING FOR MONTHS FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP OR APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. KEARNY MESA SUBARU (4797 CONVOY ST, SAN DIEGO, CA 92111, (858) 278-7100) WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE AIRBAG SYMBOL TURNS ON AT ALMOST RANDOM TIMES, INDICATING THAT THERE IS AN ERROR WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME I DRIVE, THE AIRBAG SYSTEM LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAY ON DURING MY DRIVE, WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. SOMETIMES IF I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT BACK ON, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL TURN OFF - BUT THERE IS NO CONSISTENT PATTERN. TODAY THE LIGHT CAME ON, I PARKED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON THE LIGHT WAS STILL ILLUMINATED.
MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBERTKC19 - NHTSA RECALL NUMBER19V009000. VARIOUS SUBARU DEALERSHIPS ARE BOOKED THROUGH OCTOBER '19, AND JANUARY '20 IN THE MA AREA. THIS IS FORCING PEOPLE TO DRIVE WITH DEFECTIVE VEHICLES FOR FAR TO LONG. THE ONLY INFORMATION I COULD GET OUT OF THE PHONE REPS WAS THAT THEY ARE LIMITED TO HOW MANY OF THESE RECALLS THEY CAN PERFORM A DAY. THERE SHOULD BE NO LIMITS. IT'S UNSAFE FOR THE WAIT TIME TO BE 6 TO 9 MONTHS TO GET THE REPAIR FIXED.
SUMMARY: OUR 'VALVE SPRINGS' RECALL ('SUBARU RECALL WTY-84. NHTSA ID 18V-722. DEC. 2018') TOOK FIVE WEEKS TO COMPLETE ARE DAMAGED OUR VEHICLE. A MANDATORY RECALL REPAIR SHOULD 'FIRST DO NO HARM', BUT OUR CAR WAS RETURNED TO US IN SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE CONDITION THAN WHEN WE LEFT IT WITH THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE WORK. THIS DEALER IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, AND WE ARE NOW IN A POSITION WHERE WE MUST SELL THE VEHICLE, SEVERAL YEARS SOONER THAN PLANNED. TIME LINE: 4 FEB. 2019: DROPPED THE VEHICLE AT STEVENS CREEK SUBARU IN SANTA CLARA, CA. AT THIS TIME, OUR VEHICLE HAD NO NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS ' NO OIL LEAKS ON OUR GARAGE FLOOR, NO BURNING SMELLS, AND NO FUNNY NOISES. 7 MARCH 2019: CALLED BY DEALER AND ASKED IF I WISHED TO SPEND 'SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS' TO REPAIR ENGINE LEAKS THEY CLAIM TO HAVE HAD FOUND. I POINTED OUT THAT THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF OIL LEAKS WHEN I BROUGHT IN THE CAR, AND THAT I EXPECTED OUR CAR BACK IN AT LEAST AS GOOD CONDITION AS WHEN I DROPPED IT, BUT WITH THE RECALL ADDRESSED. CONCERNED THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TROUBLE, I EMAILED TO THE DEALER A PHOTO OF MY GARAGE FLOOR SHOWING NO EVIDENCE OF OIL DRIPPINGS (ATTACHED). 9 MARCH 2019: PICKED UP MY VEHICLE. IMMEDIATELY NOTICED STRONG BURNING SMELLS, AND OIL DRIPPINGS BEGAN TO APPEAR ON THE FLOOR. 16 MARCH 2019: CONTACTED DEALER AND ARRANGED FOR THEM TO INSPECT VEHICLE. OPENED CASE NUMBER 1-41918146136 WITH SUBURU. E-MAILED PHOTOS OF GARAGE FLOOR, NOW WITH OIL DRIPPINGS (ATTACHED.) 20-22 MARCH 2019: DEALER PERFORMED A COMPLEMENTARY REPAIR TO 'RESEAL THE PASSENGER SIDE VALVE COVER'. 22 MARCH 2019: SYMPTOMS NOT IMPROVED. WIFE REPORTED HEARING NEW SOUNDS. SINCE THEN: DEALER CLAIMS THE PROBLEMS WERE PREEXISTING, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE WERE NO SYMPTOMS BEFORE THE RECALL WORK, AND ARE REFUSING TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING, THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V772000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE, COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED METROWEST SUBARU AT (508) 651-2000 (LOCATED AT 948 WORCESTER ST, NATICK, MA 01760) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD ONLY PERFORM TWO REPAIRS PER WEEK. THE CONTACT HAD TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR SEPTEMBER OF 2019. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
HIT A BUMP AND DASHBOARD LIT UP WITH SENSOR LIGHTS. SUBARU REPAIR SHOP INSPECTED WITH CODES AND SAID I NEED A NEW VALVE BODY FOR $1700. THE WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS ENDED JULY 2018, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FROM SUBARU OR FROM MY SUBARU DEALER REGARDING THIS KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CVT.
LOST THROTTLE CONTROL ON THE HIGHWAY(THROTTLE DISCONNECTED?) DOING 60+MPH, CAR BEHIND ALMOST HIT ME. CODE SHOWS A FAULTY PEDAL POSITION ASSEMBLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR SHIFTER FAILED TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V149000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED RYE SUBARU (LOCATED AT 1175 BOSTON POST RD, RYE, NY 10580, (914) 967-6300) AND STAMFORD SUBARU (LOCATED AT 198 BAXTER AVE, STAMFORD, CT 06902, (203) 252-2222) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,777. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
SUBARU RECALL. I RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL ABOUT ISSUE WITH ENGINE VALVE SPRINGS ON MY CAR. I CALLED THE SUBARU DEALER AND ALSO WALK IN TO THE DEALER. THEY REFUSED TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR FOR ME. THEIR REASON WAS THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PARTS YET. THEY WILL PUT MY CAR IN THE WAITING LIST. THAT WAS ALMOST 2 MONTHS AGO AND THEY NEVER CONTACTED ME BACK. WHATEVER THEY REASON THEY GAVE ME, THEY FAILED TO ADDRESS THEIR OBLIGATION. THE SUBARU DEALER I CONTACTED WAS MICHAEL'S SUBARU OF BELLEVUE. 888-418-0142
I RECEIVED A DECEMBER 2018 RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL WTY-84, NHTSA ID 18V-772. WHEN I CALLED MY DEALER, NORTHTOWN SUBARU, AMHERST NY, THEY TOLD ME TO CALL BACK IN LATE FEBRUARY BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE PARTS YET. NOW WHEN I CALLED (3/4/2019) THEY SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE THE TOOLS FOR THE REPAIR. THEY SAID TRY AGAIN IN APRIL. THE RECALL NOTICE SAID THE RECALL SERVICE SHOULD BE PERFORMED "IMMEDIATELY". IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE STALLING SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE THE REPAIRS. I EXPECT WHEN I CALL IN APRIL THEY WILL HAVE SOME OTHER EXCUSE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF OTHER SUBARU DEALERS ARE MAKING THE REPAIRS AND IF ANY ARE NEAR THE 14221 ZIP CODE. WHAT CAN A CAR OWNER DO IF THE DEALERS REFUSE TO MAKE RECALL REPAIRS?
SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. (SUBARU) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2012-2014 SUBARU IMPREZA, 2012-2013 IMPREZA STATIONWAGON, 2013 SUBARU BRZ, XV CROSSTREK AND TOYOTA SCION FR-S VEHICLES. THE ENGINE VALVE SPRINGS IN THESE VEHICLES MAY FRACTURE CAUSING AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION OR A POSSIBLE ENGINE STALL. CONSEQUENCE AN ENGINE STALL CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH. REMEDY SUBARU WILL NOTIFY THEIR OWNERS. TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY THE FR-S OWNERS. DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE VALVE SPRINGS, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DECEMBER 26, 2018. SUBARU OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUBARU CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-844-373-6614, TOYOTA OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AT 1-888-270-9371. SUBARU'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS WTY-84. DETAILS ISSUED 12/26/2018 RECALL ID 289102 NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 18V772000 VEHICLES AFFECTED 165,534 COMPONENT AFFECTED ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR (ODS) CANNOT DETECT A PERSON WHEN SEATED IN THE PASSENGER. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WITH THE ENGINE ON AND OFF; WHILE IN MOTION AND ALSO WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ON THE CENTER DASH REMAINS ILLUMINATED "OFF" ALSO, THE AIRBAG SYMBOL TURNS ON AT ALMOST RANDOM TIMES, INDICATING THAT THERE IS AN ERROR WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME I DRIVE, THE AIRBAG SYSTEM LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAY ON DURING MY DRIVE, WHETHER I AM DRIVING ALONE OR WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. SOMETIMES IF I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURN IT BACK ON, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL TURN OFF - BUT THERE IS NO CONSISTENT PATTERN.
THE IMPREZA CONSUMES A LOT OF OIL. BETWEEN 800-1200 MILES IM HAVING TO TOP IT OFF. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH IT SHUTTING OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING IT IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO IDEAS. NO LIGHTS TURN ON TO FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON. IT'S THROWING NO CODE EITHER.
SUBARU RECALL FOR A FAULTY ENGINE PART IS PENDING REPAIR FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. I CAN HEAR THE ENGINE SOUND CHANGE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IDLING WHICH I THINK IS DUE TO THE ISSUE CAUSING THE RECALL. I AM WORRIED FOR MY FAMILY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE.
I WAS AT A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION ABOUT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY REAR WINDOW SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED AND BROKE. I LOOKED TO SEE IF A CAR HAD HIT ME AND THEIR WAS NO CAR THERE. I PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE AND LOOKED FOR A ROCK OR STONE. NOTHING WAS THERE, THE REAR WINDOW JUST BROKE ON IT'S OWN. I WAS USING MY REAR DEFROSTER AT THE TIME. IT WAS STRANGE AND I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A FAULT FROM THE FACTORY. I HAVE READ THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE IN THE PAST WITH SUBARU. THE REAR GLASS HAD NO CHIPS OR CRACKS PRIOR TO THIS SPONTANEOUS DAMAGE.
SUBARU HAS SENT A RECALL FOR THE ABOVE VEHICLE. THE RECALL NUMBER IS WTY-84 / NHTSA ID 18V-772 (DECEMBER 2018). I WAS TOLD BY MY LOCAL DEALER THAT THE NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT IS IN SEPTEMBER, 2020. I THEN CALLED THEIR RECALL HOTLINE AND WAS TOLD THAT PARTS HAVE NOT YET BEEN SENT TO DEALERS, THAT A SECOND LETTER WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS AFTER DEALERS HAVE RECEIVED THEM, AND THAT I COULD THEN GET IN IMMEDIATELY. HOWEVER, THEY CANNOT SAY WHEN THAT WILL BE. THIS IS AN ENGINE PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE A STALL WHILE DRIVING. THE LETTER SENT BY SUBARU IS CLEAR ABOUT THIS BEING A POTENTIAL DANGER. THE DEALER ONLY TOLD ME THAT, IF THE ENGINE STALLED, THEY WOULD PICK ME UP AND GIVE ME A LOANER VEHICLE. THEY ADDED THAT THAT ANY STALL WOULD HAPPEN GRADUALLY AND I WOULD NOT BE INJURED. NEEDLESS TO SAY (PERHAPS), MY CONCERNS ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ARE NOT ASSUAGED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MANY DIFFERENT THINGS BY SUBARU, AND THEY DON'T FIT TOGETHER. EITHER SUBARU DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IT'S DOING, OR IT IS TELLING ITS EMPLOYEES TO DELIBERATELY LIE. SUBARU IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS THE FAULT OF THE COMPANY. I WANT TO GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. I WANT TO KNOW THAT I AM DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT IS SAFE TO DRIVE. AND I WANT TO BE ABLE TO TRUST SUBARU. NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE AT THIS TIME. SINCE SUBARU IS NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR ITS CUSTOMERS, AN OUTSIDE ORGANIZATION MUST FORCE SUBARU TO DO SO. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WILL DO JUST THIS AND FORCE THE COMPANY TO TREAT THIS ISSUE WITH THE RESPECT AND CONCERN IT DESERVES.
EARLIEST THAT SUBARU SANTA FE RETAILER CAN ADDRESS RECALL WTY-84 "ENGINE VALVE SPRINGS" IS SEPTEMBER 2019.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V772000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. KOEPPEL SUBARU (42-01 NORTHERN BLVD, LONG ISLAND CITY, NY 11101, (718) 786-1660) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT PROVIDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V419000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUBARU OF CORVALLIS (LOCATED AT 800 NW 5TH ST, CORVALLIS, OR 97330, (541) 754-1515) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT SHOWS PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLED WHILE A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE CAR IS MOVING OR STOPPED. CAR IS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA 5-DOOR WAGON, BUILT 10/2011. I SEE 2012 IMPREZA SEDANS HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS THOSE, BUT MY CAR IS A 5-DOOR WAGON AND ISN'T ON THE RECALL LIST. PLEASE EXPAND THE RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (CURRY SUBARU, 3040 E MAIN STREET, CORTLAND, NY 10567) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
PASSENGER AIR BAG TURNS OFF WHILE OCCUPANT IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. ALSO SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN I PLUG MY PHONE CHARGER INTO THE CAR. ALONG WITH AIR BAG LIGHT GOING OFF, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS IN THE CAR POWERED DOWN WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR DOES NOT DETECT THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER DURING TRAVEL. THE PASSESGER AIRBAG DISPLAY IS ON AT THE START BUT THEN SWITCHES TO OFF WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING, AFTER AROUND 20 MINUTES OR MORE OF DRIVING. SO FAR, RESTARTING THE CAR HAS PUT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG BACK ON, BUT THIS REQUIRES THE DRIVER TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED TWICE IN JUNE, ONCE IN JULY, AND NOW TWICE THIS WEEK (BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER). IN JUNE AND JULY WE WERE ON AN INTERSTATE GOING 70 MPH. THIS WEEK WE WERE DRIVING IN TOWN AT 40 MPH. THE CAR WAS MOVING STRAIGHT AT THE TIME. THE SEAT WAS NOT WET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO STOHLMANS SUBARU (8435 LEESBURG PIKE, VIENNA, VIRGINIA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE STRUTS, MUFFLER, AND REAR BRAKE PADS WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 1-35452451016. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
OCCUPANT DETECTION SUSTEM ON PASSENGER SIDE MALFUNCTION, DOES NOT ALWAYS RECOGNIZE PASSENGER. SOMETIME S IT STOPS WORKING IN MIDDLE OF TRIP. HAPPENS SPORADICALLY, BUT IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT AND DOES NOT ALWAYS RESOLVE WITH RESTARTING CAR. HAS TO DO WITH CAPACITANCE DETECTION, BUT SO FAR SUBARU DEALERS I CONTACT ACT LIKE IT'S NOT AN ISSUE THOUGH EARLIER MODEL APPARENTLY HAS RECALL FOR EXACT ISSUE. AND NO THE PASSENGER ISN'T WET. HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR OVER A YEAR AND WE HAVE PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED CAR, BUT ON RECENT TRIP IT WAS MUCH WORSE. AND SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING ANYWAY!
THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM. WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT RIGHT SEAT THE AIRBAG SIGN WILL SAY PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING OR STATIONARY.
MY 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA IS EXPERIENCING CONSISTENT PEDAL SQUEAK/CREAKING COMING FROM THE PRESSING OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL. THE SOUND IS HEARD FROM INSIDE THE CABIN AS WELL AS FROM UNDER THE HOOD.
PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S AIR BAGS WILL SHOW DISABLED WHENEVER AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE IS PRESENT ON THE PERSON IN THE SEAT. OCCURS IN ALL CONDITIONS. DOES NOT ENABLE AFTER REMOVING ELECTRONIC DEVICE FROM PERSON.
DEALER ROAD TESTED VEHICLE AND NOTED: "VERIFIED STEERING PULLING TO THE LEFT AND STEERING WHEEL PULLING. TECH FOLLOWED RECOMMENDED DIAGNOSTIC TREE. TECH FOUND (STEERING) GEARBOX CRACKED."
MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, WITH AN ACCOMPANYING LOUD TONE, AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE IS NOT A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. SOMETIMES IT SENSES SOMETHING VERY LIGHT LIKE MY PHONE ON THE SEAT, SETS OFF THE WARNING, AND STOPS WHEN I REMOVE THE OBJECT. OTHER TIMES, WHEN THERE ACTUALLY IS A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT, A DIFFERENT WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON SAYING THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. THIS HAPPENS ON ITS OWN, ALSO RANDOMLY. I SELDOM HAVE PASSENGERS, SO IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM I HAVE IGNORED OVER THE YEARS. BUT WHEN I HAD A CAR SAVVY PASSENGER RECENTLY, HE SUGGESTED I FOLLOW UP ON WHAT COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE FOR MY CAR'S MODEL YEAR. HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED MICHAEL'S SUBARU IN BELLEVUE, WHERE I HAVE HAD MY CAR SERVICED FOR SEVERAL YEARS, THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. IT SEEMS CLEAR TO ME THAT MY CAR IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OTHER CARS IN THE RECALL HAD. PLEASE ADVISE.
THE PASSENGER SIZE OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS FAULTY, WHEN YOU HAVE A CELLPHONE IN YOUR HAND OR TOUCH THE METAL DOOR IT TURNS THE AIRBAG OFF AND THEN DOES NOT TURN IT BACK ON UNTIL A KEY CYCLE.
WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY FAILED RENDERING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY OPERATION. WHEN ATTEMPTING THE (SUBARU) RECOMMENDED REPAIR THE OEM PART WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE BY SUBSTITUTED BY AN ALTERNATIVE PART FOR THIS CRITICAL REPAIR. WE HAVE RETAINED THE ORIGINAL PART FOR INSPECTION.
CAR WON'T SHIFT INTO PROPER GEAR HAS A JERKY FEEL CVT WON'T ALLOW TO MANUAL SHIFT ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER IS ON INCLUDING THE CHECK ENGINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR FLASHED ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MICHAEL HOHL SUBARU (2910 S CARSON ST, CARSON CITY, NV 89701, (775-885-0400) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE OCCUPANT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION CODE 'B16 50" APPEARED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT RECOMMEND ANY IMMEDIATE ACTION, EXCEPT TO CONTACT THE DEALER IF THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WE WERE BROADSIDED (T-BONED) IN AN INTERSECTION WITH TRAFFIC LIGHTS. WE WERE EASTBOUND GOING 25MPH & HAD JUST LEFT HOME. TWO BLOCKS FROM MY HOME AS I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE GREEN LIGHT AND BAM SHE HIT MY DRIVER SIDE. RECESSING MY FRONT TIRE 3 OR MORE INCHES IN TOWARDS MY ENGINE. SHE WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON THE INTERSECTING ROAD. SHE MUST HAVE BEEN TRAVELING 25 MPH OR MORE BECAUSE DAMAGE CONTINUED ALL THE WAY DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE (BOTH DOORS) FINISHING ON MY REAR TIRE WHERE IT BENT IT INWARDS AS IF IT WAS A STEERING TIRE MAKING A TURN. THE REAR TIRE HAS A LARGE GASH IN THE SIDE WALL. THE FOLLOWING WHERE MY WIFE'S INJURIES AS SHE WAS DRIVING: ACUTE CERVICAL MYOFASCIAL STRAIN, CERVICAL STRAIN, CLOSED HEAD INJURY, DYSARTHRIA, ELBOW CONTUSION, HEADACHE, MUSCLE TENSION HEADACHE, POST CONCUSSION SYNDROME, AND SHOULDER CONTUSION. SHE RECEIVED ALL THESE INJURIES BECAUSE THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHICH HAS TO BE A MAJOR MANUFACTURING FLAW OF SOME TYPE. PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THIS HAPPENED. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER HAS TOTALED MY WIFE'S CAR. IT IS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA PREMIUM. I HAVE INCLUDED SOME DOCUMENTS/PHOTOS.
AN AIRBAG MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT DISPLAY WHEN I SET MY CELLPHONE ON THE EMPTY PASSENGER SEAT. IT ALSO ACTIVATED WHEN MY DAUGHTERS WERE RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A LOCAL SUBARU DEALER ON APRIL 4, 2017.
MY ENGINE BURNS THROUGH OIL RAPIDLY EVERY 800 TO 1300 MILES I NEED AN OIL CHANGE. THIS ISSUE IS EXASPERATED WHEN THE WEATHER IS WARM. I ONCE BURNED THROUGH A WHILE QUART OF OIL AFTER 600 MILES WHEN TRAVELING. SUBARU DEFINES AN ENGINE ISSUE IF IT IS UNDER 2000 MILES. BUT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ENGINE FAILED THE TEST AND THAT THEY HAD ORDERED PARTS. WHEN I CALLED BACK TO SEE WHEN PARTS WOULD BE IN BECAUSE I HAD GONE IN TWICE IN THE SPAN OF 2 MONTHS FOR OIL TOP OFFS THEY TOLD ME THAT I WAS NO LONGER GETTING THE PARTS AND THAT WE HAD TO REDO THE TEST. WE REDO THE TEST AND MY OIL LIGHT COMES ON AT 800 MILES, AND THEY TOLD MY MY ISSUE WAS A SENSOR AND THAT THE HISTORY OF MY VEHICLE WAS INVALID. I AM NOW AFRAID THAT MY ENGINE IS GOING TO BLOW UP.
WE WERE RIDING ALONG AT LESS THAN 40MPH, AND WITH NO WARNING, THERE WAS A SUDDEN, LOUD, EXPLOSION NOISE ON THE ROOF OF THE CAR. WE PULLED OVER TO DISCOVER THAT THE SUNROOF HAD SHATTERED. THERE WAS NO ONE ON THE ROAD NEAR US AT THE TIME, AND THERE IS NOTHING ABOVE TO SEND ANYTHING DOWN. WE ARE POSITIVE THAT NOTHING HIT OUR ROOF. IF THE INTERNAL COVER HAD NOT BEEN CLOSED ONE OF THE 3 OF US COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AND THIS INCIDENT VERY NEARLY COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. SUBARU REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT IS VERY CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE. AS SHE ENTERED THE PARKING AREA, THE CAR ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE HOUSE. THE FRONT AND SIDE AIRBAGS CAME OUT. THE ONLY INJURY TO HER WAS A BADLY SCRAPED RIGHT LEG AND CHEST PAIN. THE HOUSE SUFFERED DAMAGE.
I HAVE 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA, AND HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT. WHEN SOMEONE SITS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INDICATOR TURNS ON AFTER A FEW MINUTES, AND THEN DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON. THERE IS A FACTORY RECALL FOR OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM (ODS), AND THE ODS CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER (4/18/2017); HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN (11/6/2017), AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE SENSOR MAT, WHICH IS NOT UNDER RECALL. IT IS $1,300 TO FIX IT. THIS CAR HAS ONLY 29K MILEAGE, AND ODS SENSOR MAD WENT BAD! WHY IS SENSOR MAT NOT COVERED BY RECALL?
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: ON TWO OCCASIONS IN THE PAST WEEK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPIED, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TURNED ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT SWITCHED TO "OFF". IN EACH INSTANCE, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TURNED OFF LATER THAT DAY AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG RETURNED TO NORMAL ("ON" WHEN THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED). A REPRESENTATIVE OF SUBARU OF AMERICA CLAIMS THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS TO OCCUR IF THERE IS ANY MOISTURE ON THE SEAT. OF THE TWO TIMES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, THERE WAS MOISTURE ON THE SEAT IN ONE CASE, BUT NOT IN THE SECOND CASE. MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED OR FIXED UNLESS IT IS ACTIVELY OCCURRING. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS FAR TOO CRITICAL OF A SAFETY FEATURE TO BE SUBJECT TO SUCH INTERMITTENT FAILURES, AND I HOPE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL BE RESOLVED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH A PASSENGER AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SAID OFF. WHILE DRIVING, MY PASSENGER LOOKED UP SOME TROUBLESHOOTING FOR THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL FOR OTHER SAME YEAR, SAME MAKES AND MODELS OF MY VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL BASED ON WHAT MONTH IT WAS MADE. AFTER I STOPPED THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT, THE LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE AGAIN UNTIL I WAS GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE. EVERY TIME WITH A PASSENGER AND DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH MY MOTHER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHEN I SUDDENLY NOTICED THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD HAD COME ON. I THEN LOOKED AT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS IN THE "OFF" POSITION. IT CONCERNED ME THAT MY PASSENGER WAS NOT BEING DETECTED BY THE AIRBAG SENSOR, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 65 MPH. WE CONTINUED TO OUR DESTINATION AND THEN SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT TO SEE IF THE AIRBAG SENSOR WOULD DETECT MY PASSENGER, WHICH IT DID NOT. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT WAS FAULTY AND, AS A RESULT, THE ENTIRE SEAT BOTTOM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF ABOUT $1000. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE SENSOR CAN BE RENDERED INEFFECTIVE BY LIQUID SPILLS, THOUGH I HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF EVER SPILLING ANYTHING LIQUID ON THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THIS CAR. I THEN LOOKED ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR SUBARU, AND THAT SUBARU ACTUALLY ISSUED A RECALL FOR 32,000 2012 SUBARU IMPREZAS (HTTP://BLOG.CARANDDRIVER.COM/SUBARU-RECALLS-32000-IMPREZAS-FOR-AIRBAG-SENSORS/). UNFORTUNATELY, AS WAS EXPLAINED BY MY DEALER, MY PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. THE DEALER'S SERVICE REPS EXPLAINED THAT IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE WITH A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE AS IS, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT, AS THE SENSOR MAY OR MAY NOT BE ACCURATELY DETECTING THE PRESENCE OF A PASSENGER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN, AND ONE WHICH I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO FIX, CONSIDERING THAT THERE HAS ALREADY BEEN A RECALL AFFECTING THE EXACT SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR CAR THAT I DRIVE. SINCE SEEING THE DEALER, I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN ONCE MORE. I WAS DRIVING CITY STREETS WITH A PASSENGER, AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WAS "OFF."
ORDERED & PURCHASED CAR 2012 BEGAN SENDING COMPLAINTS TO DEALER & MANUFACTURE ABOUT THE VEHICLE WANDERING OVER THE ROAD, BRAKES GRABBING, TIRES LOSING AIR, POOR TRANSMISSION RESPONSE, BAD BATTERY AND MANY MORE. AFTER MY COMPLAINTS WERE NEGLECTED I HAD TO SAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE FAULTY FACTORY YOKOHAMA AVID TIRES @ 24K MILES & PURCHASED WARRANTEE DIRECT EXTENDED WARRANTY TO ADDRESS COMPLICATIONS (LIKE STARTER) THIS CAR HAS WELL UNDER 40K MILES NOW BUT HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY & THE CAR WILL NOT STAY ALIGNED. THIS CAR ALWAYS USES COOLANT & BRAKE FLUID, AS WELL AS A STRANGE ENGINE OIL SITUATION (PRESENTLY DIFFERENT THAN THE CLASS ACTION OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM). I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE NON-RESPONSIVE TRANSMISSION & POOR ACCELERATION. I'M ALREADY DISABLED FROM JOB-RELATED SPINAL INJURIES & HAVE DONE MY DARNEDEST TO DRIVE AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE TO AVOID DRIVING DURING RUSH TRAFFIC, CHECK TIRE PRESSURES & OIL USE SO I KEEP MY PERFECT DRIVING RECORD FOR INSURANCE & HEALTH PURPOSE. I THOUGHT THAT BUYING A NEW CAR KEEPS ONE FROM MANY PURCHASES YET, I HAVE SPENT MORE MONEY ON THIS NEW CAR THAN ANY USED CAR. WHAT MORE CAN I DO TO PROTECT MYSELF? WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHICH FILES ARE BEST TO SEND?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V419000 (AIR BAGS) AT CAPITALAND MOTORS SUBARU (47 SARATOGA RD, SCOTIA, NY 12302 (518) 399-9999) OR GOLDSTEIN SUBARU (1754 CENTRAL AVE, ALBANY, NY 12205 (518) 869-1250), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY SERVICED PER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH THE OCCUPANT WEIGHT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN THE PASSENGER IS DAMP (COMING BACK FROM THE BEACH) AND WITH UNKNOWN ORIGIN. THERE IS A RECALL FOR OTHER 2012 IMPREZAS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT FOR SOME REASON OUR CAR IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL.
PASSENGER AIRBAG OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM (ODS) TURNS AIRBAG OFF WITH ADULT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. ADULT PASSENGER HAD SEAT UPRIGHT, EVERYTHING DRY. NO DEVICES PLUGGED IN. WE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 5 HOURS WHEN LIGHT CAME ON SAYING PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF. STOPPED FOR GAS, TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK TO NORMAL FOR ONLY 5 MINUTES. NOW LIGHT IS ON AS IF NO PASSENGER IN SEAT WHEN IN FACT THERE IS AN ADULT THERE.
OIL LEAK (SMALL DRIP) FROM THE FRONT TIMING BELT COVER, ON THE DRIVER SIDE (SIDE OF THE WATER PUMP). THE LEAK IS NOT OBVIOUS: DUE TO THE LOCATION, UNDER THE COVER, IT IS NOT VISIBLE FROM CASUAL INSPECTION. THE SMALL DRIP IS CAUGHT BY THE ENGINE UNDERCOVER AND DOES NOT LEAVE A MARK ON THE FLOOR. IT TAKES TIME TO NOTICE IT. THE COVER STARTED TO LEAK ABOUT A YEAR AGO (2016), IF NOT EARLIER--SUBARU FAILED TO IDENTIFY THE LEAK DURING SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE UNTIL LAST MONTH -- WHICH IS QUITE SURPRISING. THE FRONT COVER IS SUPPOSED TO BE SEALED (NO GASKET). THE SEAL IS SUPPOSED TO LAST FOR THE DESIGN LIFE OF THE ENGINE. BASED ON GOOGLE SEARCH, THIS SEAL ISSUE IS A WELL DOCUMENTED DEFECT OF THE FACTORY SEAL AT THE LOCATION OF THE SCREWS. IN SOME CASES, THE LEAK WAS FIXED BY REMOVING THE SCREWS, ADDING SEALANT AND PUTTING BACK THE SCREWS (MY COVER ALSO SEEMS TO LEAK AT THE SCREW LOCATION TOO). THIS FIX SUGGEST A MANUFACTURING DEFECT DURING INSTALLATION OF THE COVER: FAILURE TO ADD SEALANT TO THE SCREWS OR FAILURE TO ADD SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF SEALANT AT THE SCREW LOCATION. SUBARU NOW RECOMMENDS A FRONT COVER RESEAL ($650). THIS KNOWN ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH DURING THE ENGINE WARRANTY PERIOD.
PASSENGER AIRBAG DEACTIVATES WHILE A PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. THERE ARE NO ELECTRONICS PLUGGED INTO MY CAR. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ABOVE MY RADIO STATES THAT IT IS OFF WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. MY SRS AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALSO ON. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2014. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A RESOLUTION IN SIGHT/ MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW AND THEY ARE TELLING ME MY CAR IS WORKING AS DESIGNED.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE, BUT THE INDICATOR LIGHT CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING SERVICED SAYS THEY HAVE 3-4 OTHER 2012 SUBARU IMPREZAS WITH THE SAME POST-RECALL PROBLEM. THE ONLY FIX THEY RECOMMEND IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE MODULE UNDER THE SEAT WHICH THEY QUOTED AS AN $800 FIX. THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SENSOR IS EXACTLY WHAT IS LISTED ON THE INITIAL RECALL WHERE THE LIGHT TURNS TO "OFF" WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT AND SOMETHING IS PLUGGED INTO THE POWER OUTLET OR THEY MOVE AROUND IN THE SEAT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS IT COULD CAUSE THE AIRBAG NOT TO DEPLOY IF A CRASH WERE EVER TO HAPPEN.
PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL SOMETIMES DEACTIVATE WHILE A PASSENGER IS SEATED IN IT. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING WITH A DEACTIVATED PASSENGER AIRBAG. THIS HAPPENS SEEMINGLY AT RANDOM, BUT WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS OCCURRED MANY TIMES. IT CAN BE RESOLVED BY PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE CAR USUALLY.
TRANSAXEL/TRANSMISSION FAILURE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HEATER STOPPED WORKING. THE CONTACT PULLED OUT THE PANEL WHERE THE SWITCH WAS LOCATED AND NOTICED THAT THE SWITCH WAS BURNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
WHILE DRIVING WITH OCCUPANT (ADULT WOMAN) IN PASSENGER SEAT THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE DISPLAY OF PASS AIRBAG STATUS WENT TO OFF. PREVIOUS RECALL (SERVICE CAMPAIGN: WQT55|NHTSA CAMPAIGN: 15V419000) WAS COMPLETED IN OCT 2015, AND THINK THIS IS SIMILAR ISSUE. WAS NOT USING ANY ELECTRONICS/CONNECTIONS, BUT OCCUPANTS WERE DAMP FROM SNOW SKIING. TRIED TO STOP CAR, REMOVE KEY, AND RESTART BUT ISSUE REMAINED FOR REST OF TRIP (~ 2 HOURS). *TR
DRIVING HOME ON 12/11/16, THE CHECK ENGINE, VEHICLE DYNAMICS CONTROL, AND CRUISE CONTROL INDICATORS CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. CHECK ENGINE AND VDC INDICATORS WERE STEADY, BUT CRUISE CONTROL WAS BLINKING. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE SO I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO SUBARU TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY DISCOVERED CODE P1449: "EVAP SYSTEM CLUGGED CHECK & FOUND SPIDER WEBS IS EVAP DRAIN & VALVE ASSY. TECH RECOMMEND REPLACE EVAP DRAIN & VALVE ASSY." THEY REPLACED EVAP DRAIN & VALVE ASSEMBLY AND PERFORMED EVAP SYSTEM CLEAN REINSTALL WHICH FIXED THE ISSUE. TOTAL COST 617.28 (416.50 FOR 3.5 HOURS LABOR, 41.16 FOR VALVE AY DRA, 159.62 FOR VALVE AY ELC). WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR IN DEC 2011, I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (GOLD PLUS) WHICH COVERS 6 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES WITH $0 DEDUCTIBLE. BEFORE FIXING THE PROBLEM ABOVE, THEY ESTIMATED IT WOULD COST ME $600-$700 OUT OF POCKET SINCE THEY SAID THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS CAUSED BY A SPIDER AND NOT A PART DEFECT. I CALLED SUBARU'S WARRANTY DEPARTMENT WHICH SAID THE SAME THING. I MENTIONED THAT MAZDA, SUZUKI, HONDA, AND HYUNDAI ALL HAD THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS BACK AND THAT MAZDA AND SUZUKI HAD RECALLS, WHILE HONDA AND HYUNDAI WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SUBARU AGAIN STATED THAT THEY DO NOT COVER IT. AFTER THE FIX, A SERVICE CENTER ADVISOR SAID HE SEES THIS PROBLEM A LOT BUT UNFORTUNATELY SUBARU DOES NOT COVER IT. I ASKED HOW TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN AND HE SAID TO SPRAY PEPPERMINT OIL OCCASIONALLY AROUND THE FUEL TANK AREA BELOW THE CAR SINCE THE SMELL DETERS PESTS. I PAID THE BILL TO GET MY CAR. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE A RECALL OF SOME SORT SHOULD BE ISSUED BY SUBARU TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN OR AT LEAST HAVE THE PROBLEM BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT TO YOU AND HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME RECOVER THE COST. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR GRADUALLY STOPPED WORKING. THIS SEAT SENSOR HAD ALLEGEDLY BEEN CHECKED AND FIXED IN 2015 AS PART OF SUBARU VOLUNTARY RECALL SUBSEQUENT TO THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION. AT THAT TIME, THE SENSOR WAS WORKING PROPERLY; THE NATURE OF SUBARU'S FIX IS UNCLEAR. SINCE THE VOLUNTARY RECALL, THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED. THERE HAS BEEN NO WATER SPILL. THE ISSUE WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR STARTED SHORTLY AFTER AN IPHONE CHARGER WAS INSTALLED, I.E. PLUGGED IN THE FRONT 12V CIGARETTE LIGHTER RECEPTACLE. THE DEGRADATION OF THE SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR'S PERFORMANCE WAS GRADUAL. FIRST, IT STOPPED REGISTERING MY DAUGHTER'S WEIGHT, THEN MY WIFE'S THEN MINE -- THIS GRADUAL DEGRADATION IN PERFORMANCE, FROM FIRST INCIDENCE TO COMPLETE NON-PERFORMANCE TOOK ABOUT 3 TO 4 WEEKS.
THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT HAS FAILED 3 TIMES WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND NOW AGAIN OUT OF WARRANTY. WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT WHILE DRIVING, THE AIRBAG SENSOR DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE PASSENGER'S WEIGHT, AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL NOT TURN ON, PUTTING MY PASSENGER AT RISK. UNDER WARRANTY, CARR SUBARU IN BEAVERTON OREGON REPLACED THE SENSOR EACH TIME IT FAILED. THEY BRIEFLY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE SENSOR "FAILS ALL THE TIME" AND "ITS POORLY DESIGNED." IF I UNDERSTOOD THEM CORRECTLY, THESE TYPE OF SENSORS ARE NO LONGER USED IN NEWER MODELS OF MY CAR. I AM NOW HAVING THE AIRBAG ISSUE AGAIN AND I AM NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. SUBARU SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAULTY SYSTEM AND REPLACE IT COMPLETELY, RATHER THAT JUST REPLACING THE SENSOR THEY ALREADY KNOW IS FAULTY.
FALSIFICATION OF RECALL SERVICE WORK PERFORMED FOR RECALL WQT-55 THAT IS RELATED TO THE AIR BAG NOT DEPLOYING BASED ON AN ISSUE W/ THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM. WALDORF SUBARU STATES THEY PERFORMED THAT THEY DIDN'T DO. SUBARU HAS BEEN EXTREMELY SLOW AN UNRESPONSIVE IN ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. MY CAR WAS ORIGINALLY TAKEN TO WALDORF SUBARU TO HAVE THE RECALL PERFORMED, AFTER WHICH I HAD A SERVICE WORK ORDER INDICATING IT WAS COMPLETE. I RECEIVE A PHONE CALL 2 DAYS LATER FROM THE PARTS MANAGER INDICATING THE "PART THAT WAS NEEDED FOR THE RECALL IS NOW IN STOCK." AS A SECOND CHECK, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER SUBARU LOCATION (HERB GORDON SUBARU/MILE ONE) TO CHECK IT OUT AND VERIFY IF THE RECALL HAD BEEN IN FACT FIXED, THIS PROVED THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. I OBTAINED A SERVICE WORK ORDER WITH THESE DETAILS. I CONTACTED SUBARU TO HAVE THEM ADDRESS THIS, AND THEY HAVE BEEN SLOW TO RESPOND AND HAVE BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO THE CONCERNS THAT HAVE BEEN RAISED. THEIR INTERNAL COMPLAINT NUMBER HAS BEEN OPENED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE: SR #:1-17536427192
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BOLT ATTACHED TO THE BRAKE CALIPER FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
MY SON'S 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA, WAS BOUGHT USED, WITH 59,000. MILES, WITH HOPE OF OWNING A RELIABLE, SAFE VEHICLE ON 2/11/16. ON 6/26/16 HE WENT FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND WITHIN ONE WEEK THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY SEIZED. HE WAS DRIVING HOME, NO WARNING LIGHTS, OR ANYTHING JUST MADE A LOUD SOUND THEN HE WAS JUST BARELY ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF A BUSY 3 LANE ROAD TO CALL FOR A TOW TRUCK. AT THE TIME, WE WORRIED THAT THE OIL CHANGE MAY HAVE BEEN DONE IMPROPERLY AND CAUSED THE ISSUE. WE CONTACTED THE BUSINESS, WHO THEN HAD A ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC/INSPECTOR VERIFY THAT IT WAS NOT THE OIL CHANGE BUT AN INTERNAL ENGINE PROBLEM. WE THEN HAD TOWED IT AGAIN TO SUBARU DEALER THAT WAS 7/12/16. THEN WE BEGAN CALLING- DAILY OR EVERY OTHER DAY; TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND EMAILING TO CORPORATE SUBARU- ASKING WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIS CAR? WHY DID IT HAPPEN? WHAT CAN BE DONE? WHAT WILL IT COST? FINALLY, ON 8/22/16, WE HEARD FROM SUBARU SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY -BUT WILL AUTHORIZE A $2,000. TOWARD REPAIR OR NEW CAR. WE CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN BECAUSE WE STILL HAD NOT HEARD OR RECEIVED A REASON/QUOTE OF REPAIR. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS DAMAGE TO A PISTON AND IT WOULD COST AT LEAST $10,000. AND THEY DID NOT RECOMMEND IT; BETTER TO TALK TO SALES. THE WARRANTY IS FOR 60,000 MILES OR 5 YEARS ON THE POWERTRAIN, WE ARE AT 67,000 MILES AND 4 YEARS. SO NOW WE STILL OWE $8,000. AND HAVE $10,000. REPAIR, AND THEY ARE OFFERING $2,000. MONEY VS SAFETY AND NOW VS TRUST WE WANT A SAFE RELIABLE CAR, FROM A COMPANY THAT WE COULD TRUST. WE THOUGHT THAT WAS SUBARU.
CAR WITH ONLY 65,000MILES, MINIMAL BRAKING SINCE LIVE AND TRAVEL ON COUNTRY ROAD. HAD REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED. ONE MONTH LATER, AFTER LONG DRIVE THEN CAR SITTING FOR A WEEK, MASTER CYLINDER FAILED. NOTED NO BRAKES WHEN STARTED UP THE CAR AGAIN.
WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL TURN ON AND THE DASH WILL REPORT "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF." THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE FROM IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED ON, BEFORE IT IS PLACED IN DRIVE, TO AN HOUR AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING. WE DO FREQUENTLY HAVE ELECTRONICS PLUGGED IN, BUT I JUST LEARNED OF THE POSSIBLE CONNECTION AND HAVE NOT TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT IT. THE SEATS ARE HEATED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT DOES NOT TURN ON WITHOUT A FRONT SEAT PASSENGER. FIRST STARTED IN JUNE OF 2016 AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY SINCE THEN, APPROXIMATELY 75% OF THE TIME A PASSENGER IS IN THE FRONT SEAT.
MY FIANC SAT IN THE DRIVER SEAT, I IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE STARTED THE CAR AFTER WE BOTH WERE SITTING DOWN. I HAD HIS PHONE CHARGING IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND MY PHONE WAS IN THE HOUSE. MY SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PASS. AIR BAG WAS TURNED OFF. CODES B1660, B16FO, AND B1650 WERE SAVED. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME A WET PASSENGER, A CELL PHONE IN A POCKET, OR EVEN A LAP TOP THAT WAS TURNED OFF IN A BAG COULD CAUSE THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION DUE TO IT BEING STATIC ELECTRIC BASED DUE TO THE SEAT HEATERS. I HAD A SEAT RECALL COMPLETED IN NOV 2015 AND THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO STATE THAT THIS COULD BE RELATED TO THE RECALL. SERVICE CAMPAIGN WQT55 NHTSA CAMPAIGN 15V419000. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO THINK THAT HAVING A CELL PHONE WHILE A PASSENGER IN A SAFETY RATED CAR COULD CAUSE A MALFUNCTION IN THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. *JS
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS (APRIL 10, 2016, JUNE 13, 2016 AND AUGUST 5, 2016),SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO GAS PEDAL INPUT, STOPPED RUNNING, AND COASTED TO A STOP. THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. FORTUNATELY THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE ON CITY STREETS, AND NOT ON THE FREEWAY. HAD I BEEN ON THE FREEWAY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED. THAT WOULD HAVE HAD TRAGIC, PERHAPS FATAL CONSEQUENCES. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER'S FOR REPAIR AFTER THE THIRD AND LATEST INCIDENT. I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER'S AFTER EACH OF THE OTHER INCIDENTS AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION AFTER ENGAGING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. UPDATED 09/28/16*LJ *TR
SUBARU HAD A RECALL ON THE ODC (OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM) NHTSA 15V419000 FOR CARS PRODUCED FROM 4/2011 THROUGH 2/2012. MY CAR WAS PRODUCED IN MID MARCH 2012 - AND EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALLED VEHICLES. THE ODC WOULD BE DEACTIVATED IF A PASSENGER WAS IN THE CAR AND WE HAD A CHARGER PLUGGED IN THE POWER OUTLET. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. IT IS BEING FIXED, BUT IT IS A $1,200 CHARGE, FOR WHAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP.
IN 2014 TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM LIGHT STARTED BLINKING THEN REMAINED ILLUMINATED. NOW 2016 SAME PROBLEM NOW TOLD ONE OF THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM SENSORS IS AGAIN DEFECTIVE BUT NOT UNDER WARRANTY.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I WAS ACCELERATING TO PASS SOMEONE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR REVVED UP VERY HIGH AND ACCELERATED VERY FAST TO AN UNINTENDED SPEED. I BRAKED WITH NO EFFECT. I PUT ALL MY WEIGHT ON THE BRAKE, ALMOST STANDING UP, FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS, THEN I HEARD A LOUD SNAP UNDER THE CAR, LIKE I JUST UNSTUCK SOMETHING, THEN IT REVVED BACK DOWN TO A CONTROLLABLE SPEED. IF IT WASNT FOR THE FACT IT WAS EARLY MORNING AND THERE WEREN'T AS MANY CARS AROUND ME ON THIS HIGHWAY I WOULD HAVE SURELY BEEN HIT OR HIT SOMEBODY ELSE. VERY SCARY. LUCKILY, I DIDN'T, AND MY CAR'S BEEN DRIVING OKAY FOR PAST FEW DAYS ; IT IS AT THE DEALERSHIP AS I WRITE THIS (4/21/16) GETTING CHECKED OUT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A HEAD INJURY AND INJURIES TO THE LEFT ARM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE AIR BAG WIRING WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT RANDOMLY FLASHED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V419000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY ,SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED FOR UNKNOWN REASON.
AFTER LAST OIL CHANGE AT 43,000 MILES THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN 2,000 MILES. OIL LEVEL WAS OVER A QUART LOW. I FOUND NO OIL LEAK AT THE PAN OR FILTER AND NO OIL ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. OIL LIGHT CONSISTENTLY COMES ON AFTER 2,000 MILES OF DRIVING. OIL IS ALWAYS LOW WHEN I CHECK IT. PLAN TO ADDRESS WITH DEALERSHIP. THIS MODEL WAS THE FIRST YEAR FOR SUBARU'S NEWLY DESIGNED ENGINE. HMMM?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BECAME FRACTURED AND WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. AFTER THE SEAT WAS REPLACED, THE PASSENGER SIDE "AIR BAG OFF" WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE WHENEVER THE SEAT WAS WET OR LIGHTLY DAMP. THE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR PRIOR TO THE SEAT REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V419000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,700.
VEHICLE PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLED LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN A CELLULAR DEVICE IS PLACED IN THE PROXIMITY OF THE PASSENGER SEATBELT BUCKLE. ALSO A CELLULAR DEVICE PLACED ON THE SEAT WITH NO OCCUPANT ENGAGES THE OCS TO REGISTER THAT SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. SPOKE WITH SUBARU DEALER REGARDING THE ISSUE, AND WAS TOLD EVERYTHING IS OK, AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE COMPLAINT.
HAVING TROUBLE IGNITION TURNING OVER I HAVE TAKEN BACK TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES ALWAYS TOLD MY CAR WAS FINE THIS CAR HAS RECALLS I WASN'T AWARE I HAD TO REPLACE TIRE & SENSOR WASN'T WORKING WAS TOLD IT WAS CLIMATE RELATED WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN......THIS IS MY SECOND SUBARU ..I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED W THIS CAR.....NOW MY ABS,CHECK ENGINE, AN TIRE GAUGES ARE BLINKING WHEN I WAS PARKING I JUST TOOK IT TO DEALER A WEEK AGO....I WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS FINE.
THIS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ALL THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM ARE, "ON BACK ORDER". I EXPLAINED THAT I AM UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, SINCE THE RECALL CLEARLY STATES THAT THE AIRBAG MAY NOT INFLATE UPON COLLISION. I ASKED FOR A LOANER CAR UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND WAS TOLD, "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO, YOU CAN CONTACT SUBARU OF AMERICA". I HAVE BEEN GIVEN NO TIME ESTIMATE AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE.
TODAY (OCTOBER 9, 2015), I RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM [XXX], WARRANTY ADMINISTRATOR, TEAM MAZDA SUBARU, IN CALDWELL, IDAHO 208-455-0322 [XXX], TELLING ME THAT THE PART TO FIX SUBARU RECALL CAMPAIGN WQT-55, NHTSA RECALL NO. 15V-419, AUGUST 2015 FOR MY 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA, [XXX] WAS GOING TO BE RETURNED IF I DID NOT BRING MY VEHICLE IN SHORTLY. SOON AFTER I RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL, I CALLED TEAM MAZDA SUBARU SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, TELLING THEM EXACTLY WHAT THE APPOINTMENT WAS FOR. AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR 2 PM ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2015. I ARRIVED AT THE SERVICE CENTER AND GAVE THE ADVISER A COPY OF THE RECALL NOTICE AT 1:50 PM ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2015. HE TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE AN HOUR OR MORE WAIT. I SHOWED HIM IN THE LETTER THAT IT SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 25 MINUTES. THE ADVISER SEEMED TO BE COMPLETELY UNAWARE OR INFORMED OF THE RECALL, BUT SAID THAT HE WOULD HAVE IT DONE SOONER THAN PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED. AT 2:50 PM I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE RECALL DEFECT NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE PART NEEDED WAS NOT AVAILABLE. HE ASKED IF I WANTED HIM TO CALL ME WHEN THE PART ARRIVED AND I SAID, ?PLEASE!? TODAY, MORE THAN ONE MONTH LATER, I GET THE EMAIL DESCRIBED ABOVE. THE RECALL NOTICE STATES THAT I SHOULD CONTACT YOU IMMEDIATELY IF I BELIEVE THE SUBARU RETAILER HAS FAILED OR IS UNABLE TO REMEDY MY VEHICLE WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. I DO NOT CONSIDER MORE THAN ONE MONTH A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE RECALL NOTICE ALSO SAYS THAT I SHOULD IMMEDIATELY CONTACT THE DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, WHICH IMPLIES THAT THE PART IS AVAILABLE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY AN APPOINTMENT WOULD BE MADE TO REPAIR MY CAR IF THE PART WAS NOT IN STOCK. FURTHERMORE, WHY DID I HAVE TO WAIT AN HOUR TO FIND OUT THE REPAIR COULD NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED? SINCERELY, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
I RECEIVED RECALL INFORMATION AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A LOCAL DEALER FOR CORRECTION OF THE DEFECTIVE AUTOMOTIVE PART. WEEKS LATER I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALER THAT THEY HAD RUN OUT OF PARTS AND WOULD RESCHEDULE BY CALLING ME WHEN THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS BACK IN STOCK. I THEN RECEIVED AN EMAIL, DATED 9/9/2015, FROM THE DEALER BILL RAPP SUBARU, SYRACUSE, NY, THAT THE APPOINTMENT HAD BEEN CANCELLED BUT NO INDICATION REGARDING THE RECALL OR IN WRITING THE THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PART WAS BACK IN STOCK. PLEASE ADVISE.
WHEN A PASSENGER OF 215LBS OR MORE SITS IN MY 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA PASSENGER SEAT FOR MORE THAN 10MILES THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS TURNED OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN RESET THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND PERFORMED AN UNKNOWN REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECENTLY RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V419000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
FINALLY, AFTER 3 YEARS OF SUBARU STONEWALLING TO ADMITTING TO A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, NHTSA INTERVENTION RESULTED IN RECALL WQT55. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE EARLIER THIS WEEK. HOWEVER, NONE OF THE SUBARU DEALERS IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA THAT I CONTACTED HAD THE NECESSARY REPLACEMENT PART AND SAID IT BACK ORDERED WITH NO ESTIMATED DELIVERY DATE AVAILABLE. I BELIEVE SUBARU HAS CONSISTENTLY ACTED IN BAD FAITH SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION AND IS CONTINUING TO DO SO. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE THE NHTSA TO FINE SUBARU THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT FOR DELAYING AND NOW MISLEADING VEHICLE OWNERS ON A RECALL THAT MISREPRESENTS THEIR ABILITY TO FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE THE REPLACEMENT PART IS UNAVAILABLE. SUBARU IS KNOWINGLY ACTING IN BAD FAITH. I HAVE BEEN ENDURING THIS SAFETY ISSUE FOR MORE THAN THREE YEARS BY AVOIDING USING THE PASSENGER SEAT WHENEVER FEASIBLE. IT'S NOT RIGHT THAT SUBARU CONTINUES TO GET AWAY WITH THEIR BEHAVIOR. PLEASE TAKE ACTION. THANK YOU. *TR

WARNING LAMPS FOR STABILITY CONTROL AIR BAG RANDOMLY LIGHT UP ON MY DASH BOARD PANEL. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WILL ALSO SWITCH TO OFF EVEN WHEN A PASSER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT OR THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING SOUND WILL GO OFF IF A SMALL OBJECT IS PLACED ON THE SEAT. MY MECHANIC CAN'T FIND THE ISSUE AS I CANNOT RECREATE THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT CAUSE THE LAMPS TO SWITCH ON OR THE WARNING SIREN TO CHIME. COMPUTER READINGS DO NOT RETURN ANY "CODES" IF THE LAMPS AREN'T ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A METAL POWER BOX AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS DRIVING ALONG A SUBURBAN ROAD WITH A PASSENGER. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS ON FOR THE FIRST ~20 MINUTES OF THE TRIP, THEN RANDOMLY TURNED OFF. I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WENT ON AGAIN, BUT THEN WENT BACK OFF AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. THIS AIRBAG ISSUE HAS HAPPENED SPORADICALLY SINCE THEN, BOTH ON HIGHWAYS AND CITY/SUBURBAN ROADS, AND AFTER 15 MINUTES-2 HOURS OF DRIVING. ALL PASSENGERS HAVE BEEN OVER 130 POUNDS AND HAVE BEEN SITTING UP STRAIGHT.
PURCHASED THE CAR USE AT 28000 MILES. CHECKED OIL AT TIME OF PURCHASE AND IT WAS FULL. DROVE THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 1200 MILES BEFORE A LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON. SOUGHT THE HELP OF SUBARU AND GOT AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. OIL LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AT 700 MILES BURNING 16.5 QUARTS. HIGHLY UNACCEPTABLE. CAR WAS OIL CHANGED AND REPLACEMENT SHORT BLOCK ORDERED. REPLACED SHORT BLOCK AND CURRENTLY BREAKING IN NEW BLOCK.
PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT WENT ON AS I WAS DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER. FIRST 10 MILES HAD NO PROBLEM, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE LAST HALF MILE OF THE TRIP IT WENT ON. I DROPPED THE PASSENGER OFF AND THE LIGHT REMAINED ON ANOTHER 2 MILES AS I REACHED MY DESTINATION. SHUT OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON, THE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONTAL SIDE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF AFTER APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES WHEN A PASSENGER WAS OCCUPYING THE SEAT. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FRONTAL DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF WHILE PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. IT WILL TURN ON FOR APPROX. 10-15 MINUTES THAN DEACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WHILE OCCUPANT IS STILL SEATED CAUSING THE WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON THE DASH. HAS HAPPENED CONSISTENTLY WHILE ON DRIVES MORE THAN 15 MINUTES. PASSANGER AIRBAG SYSTEM TURNS OFF WHILE PASSANGER SEAT OCCUPIED. COULD CAUSE FATALITY. SUBARU WILL NOT COVER REPLACEMENT DESPITE BEING OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN A PASSENGER WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN 2012 AND REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHEN A PASSENGER SITS ON PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT DOES NOT GO ON INDICATING AIR BAG ENGAGED. I AM FEARFUL THAT IF I DID HAVE A CRASH THAT THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY AND PASSSENGER GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIE.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY 2012 AND HAVE CONSISTENTLY ADDED 1 QUART +/- APPROXIMATELY EVERY 1,200 MILES, MORE OFTEN AND INCREASED ADDED OIL VOLUME DURING EXTENDED DRIVING TIMES. I HAVE SPOKEN DIRECTLY WITH SUBARU DEALERS/SERVICE MANAGERS IN 3 DIFFERENT CALIFORNIA CITIES WHOM HAVE BEEN ALERTED TO THIS OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AND HAVE CASUALLY EXPLAINED THE CONSUMPTION OF 3-5 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN CHANGES AS NORMAL. RESEARCH SEEMS TO SHOW THAT SOME SUBARU DEALERS HAVE BEGUN TO REPLACE THE SHORT BLOCK OF THE ENGINES THAT ARE CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL, BUT ONLY FOR THOSE WITH DOCUMENTED OIL LOSS. THOSE PEOPLE THAT VISIT THE DEALER EXCLUSIVELY FOR THEIR SERVICE ARE LIKELY THE ONES WHO WILL HAVE THEIR ENGINES REPLACED WITHOUT COST, LEAVING THE REST OF US OUT TO DRY. SUBARU NEEDS TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM, NOT SWEEP THE ISSUE UNDER THE RUG AND FORCE THE SUBARU CUSTOMER BASE TO PAY TOO MUCH FOR AN ENGINE THAT WAS NOT MEANT TO LAST.
PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF WITH ADULT IN PASSENGER SEAT WEIGHING 260 LBS
MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT DOESN'T REGISTER THE PASSENGER AND DISABLES THE AIRBAG.
DASHBOARD LIGHT WOULD OCCASIONALLY INDICATE THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS DISABLED WHILE I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. ISSUE WOULD RESOLVE UPON TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, BUT IT RECURRED FREQUENTLY. THE ISSUE WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY OCCUPANCY SENSOR, WHICH USED A NEW CAPACITIVE TECHNOLOGY RATHER THAN THE OLDER STYLE WEIGHT SENSORS. OCCUPANCY SENSOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY IN SEPTEMBER 2012. FOLLOWING THE REPAIR, THE NEW OCCUPANCY SENSOR DETECTS A PASSENGER AND ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS IF I PLACE A SMALL ELECTRONIC DEVICE SUCH AS A CELL PHONE ON THE SEAT, OR EVEN JUST REST MY HAND ON IT. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS NEW ISSUE IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN OR NOT.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT WENT OFF WHILE OCCUPIED BY A PASSENGER. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DETERMINED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT CAPACITIVE SENSOR HAS FAILED AND HAS ORDERED A NEW SEAT. THIS APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO YOUR NEWLY OPENED INVESTIGATION NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE15012 DATE INVESTIGATION OPENED: APR 10, 2015. I WILL SEEK TO RETAIN THE SEAT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT. MY REPAIRS ARE SCHEDULED FOR 6/1/2015.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 65 MPH, THE ALERTS INDICATING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS OFF LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD AND CENTRAL CONSOLE IN OUR 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, AND WE HAD BEEN DRIVING CONTINUOUSLY FOR OVER AN HOUR ALREADY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. WHEN WE LEFT TO RETURN HOME LATER THAT DAY, THE ALERTS WERE OFF WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON. HOWEVER, AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY HUSBAND IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE ALERTS INDICATING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS OFF LIT UP AGAIN.
PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. WHEN PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED THE AIR BAG WILL RANDOMLY TURN ON AND OFF. OCCURS WITH BOTH LIGHT AND HEAVY PASSENGERS. SUBARU SERVICE RETRIEVED A CODE B1650 FROM COMPUTER. SUBARU ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE IS $300.00 FOR CONTROL UNIT REPLACEMENT.
THE SENSOR THAT DETERMINES WHETHER THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED OR NOT ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER THE AIR BAGS SOMETIMES WON'T TURN ON. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR INTO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR AND IT CONTINUES TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED THE OFF SIGNAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING ON AN ICY ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE AND THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. IT WAS UNKNOWN IF ANY INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED OR IF A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND YARD AND THEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE (ALMOST LIKE A GUNSHOT), AND LOOKED UP TO SEE MY SUNROOF/MOONROOF HAD SHATTERED. THE ROAD I WAS DRIVING ON WAS BEING REPAVED, SO I DID HIT A SLIGHT BUMP, BUT I HAD DRIVEN ON THE SAME BUMP FOR THE PREVIOUS 3 DAYS AND SO DID ALL OTHER DRIVERS. I DO NOT KNOW HOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD HAVE OCCURRED. MY CAR DID NOT BOTTOM-OUT OR HIT ANYTHING, BUT SOMEHOW THE SUNROOF HAD SHATTERED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRYING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL VENT WAS FRACTURED AND CAUSED THE FUEL TO LEAK OUT. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONTINUOUSLY FOR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,500.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED BACK IN NOVEMBER. APPROXIMATELY EVERY 1500 MILES, IT REQUIRES 1-2 QUARTS OF OIL. WHEN I SPOKE TO THE SALES REP, HE SAID THIS MODEL WAS KNOWN FOR HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE PISTONS LEAKING. HE SAID IT SEEMED THAT A RECALL WAS IN THE WORKS, SO I JUST WANTED TO REGISTER THE FACT THAT I AM ALSO HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHER CAR OWNERS ARE HAVING WITH THIS MODEL.
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE: 33 DEGREES F. NO PRECIPITATION. ROAD CONDITION: DRY, MODERATELY ROUGH ROAD SURFACE. ONCOMING TRAFFIC: NONE INTERNAL HEAT APPLIED TO WINDSHIELD, FULL HEAT, AIR SPEED LEVEL 2. WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL FORCE BEING APPLIED TO THE WINDSHIELD, SUDDENLY AN APPROXIMATELY 18 INCH CRACK APPEARED IN THE PASSENGER'S PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD, LOW DOWN, CRACKING FROM SLIGHTLY OFF RIGHT CENTER, TOWARD THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR. *TR
DRIVING DOWN MOUNTAIN AFTER DAY OF SKIING. ROADS WERE TREACHEROUS AND ICY. 20 MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE, DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHTS TURNED ON, INDICATING THAT AIRBAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE CASE OF A COLLISION. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I WAS WEARING A DAMP BATHING SUIT WHILE DRIVING AND THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRED, INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, I WAS DRIVING ON A HOT DAY WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. I WAS SWEATING QUITE A BIT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON MY SUBARU IMPREZA TURNED ON YET AGAIN. THIS ISSUE WAS BROUGHT UP WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT SIMPLY RESET THE SENSOR, NOT SOLVING THE ISSUE OR COMPREHENDING THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE. THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR IN THE SEAT MUST HAVE FAULTED AND TURNED OFF THE AIRBAGS WHEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF SNOW/WATER/SWEAT ON MY REAR CAUSED A FAULT IN THE ELECROSTATIC SENSOR. THE OCCUPANT DETECTION SENSOR IS AN ELECTROSTATIC SENSOR THAT WILL FAULT WHEN IT SENSES AN ARBITRARY AMOUNT OF MOISTURE. AN INTERNAL MEMO IN AUGUST 2012 FROM SUBARU TO IT'S DEALERS IN NORTH AMERICA ACKNOWLEDGED, BUT NOT SOLVED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAGS NOT ENGAGING WHEN THE SEAT IS WET. FROM SUBARU'S INTERNAL MEMO: "WHEN WATER OR ANYTHING WITH HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT IS SPILLED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION, THE AIRBAG IS DESIGNED TO REMAIN OFF UNTIL THE SEAT CUSHION IS DRY". *TR
SINCE OIL CHANGE NUMBER 1, THE ENGINE OIL WAS DOWN A LITTLE OVER A QUART. THIS VEHICLE REQUIRES FULL SYNTHETIC OIL 0/20. AT EVERY OIL CHANGE THE OIL IS A QUART OR MORE LOW. A FEW TIMES THE OIL LIGHT HAS GONE ON WELL BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. A NEW CAR SHOULD NOT BE BURNING OIL, ESPECIALLY FULL SYNTHETIC OIL. *TR
OIL KEEPS RUNNING DRY BEFORE NEXT OIL CHANGE. IT HAS BEEN REQUIRING ABOUT 1 QUART EVERY 3,000 MILES. THIS HAS THE ABILITY FOR THE ENGINE TO RUN WITHOUT OIL AND SEIZE. THIS CAN CAUSE DRASTIC DAMAGE AND INJURY ALONG WITH GREATER WEAR. I HAVE BEEN MITIGATING IT WITH KEEPING OIL IN THE TRUNK BUT NO GUARANTEES THAT YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE IT. THE OIL ALSO RUINED MY TRUNK. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG RANDOMLY TURNS OFF WHEN PASSENGER IS IN THE CAR. TOOK TO A DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T REPEAT. WAS TOLD IT WAS PROBABLY JUST A WEIGHT ISSUE. IF THE AIRBAG DOESN'T GO OFF WITH A PASSENGER THERE IT COULD BE FATAL. *TR
ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASH LIT AND AIRBAG LIGHT STATED PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS OFF DESPITE SEAT BEING OCCUPIED..SUBARU STATES CANT FIND ISSUE BUT I HAVE A PIC OF THE WARNING LIGHT ON(LOOKS LIKE PREGNANT WOMEN!!). WORRIED CAR /AIRBAG UNSAFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT LEASES A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE JUMPER CABLES UNDER THE PASSENGER SEATED RESULTED IN THE SENSOR NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
CAR WAS DRIVEN TO A GROCERY STORE AND WAS PARKED FOR APPROX. 15 MINUTES. UPON STARTING THE CAR AND PLACING IT IN REVERSE, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AND THE POWER STEERING CEASED TO FUNCTION ACCOMPANIED BY AN EPAS WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. THE LIGHT EXTINGUISHED AFTER TWO RESTARTS, BUT RE-LIT UPON SLIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MOMENTARY VIBRATION AND LOSS OF POWER ASSIST. WE DROVE THE CAR .7 MILE TO THE SUBARU DEALER WITH NO POWER STEERING ASSIST. A SERVICE ADVISER STARTED THE CAR MINUTES LATER AND THE STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY WITH NO MALFUNCTION LIGHT DISPLAYED. THE SERVICE ADVISER SAID IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO LOOK FOR A STORED CODE TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 40 DEG F. THE CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER WITHOUT POWER ASSIST AT LOWER SPEED. *TR
2012 SUBARU IMPREZA HAS BEEN NEEDING AN AVERAGE OF 1 QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES DRIVEN SINCE MAY OF 2013. OIL CONSUMPTION TEXT STARTED AT NORTH COUNTRY SUBARU IN QUEENSBURY, NY ON AUGUST 5, 2014 WHEN THE CAR HAD 26586 MILES ON IT. NEW OIL FLOAT SWITCH WAS PUT INTO THE CAR ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2014 AT 28654 MILES. CAR CONTINUES TO NEED 1 QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 1,000 MILES. *TR
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I HAVE A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA PREZ, AND AM CONCERNED THAT MY AIRBAG MAY FAIL ON IMPACT. WHEN WILL THE RECALL MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIPS SO THEY MAY BE ABLE TO SERVICE MY, FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS CARS TO MAKE THEM SAFE WITH FEAR-FREE DRIVING! THE COUNTRY WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR DEPARTMENTS RESPONSE TO OUR VALID CONCERN FOR SAFETY, AS I'M SURE ALL OF THE HUMANS WORKING IN THIS DEPARTMENT ARE CONCERNED FOR THEMSELVES, THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VALUABLE TIME AND EFFORT TO REMEDY THIS MOST IMPORTANT CONCERN THE UNITED STATES POPULATION HAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
AT ANY SPEED, WHILE CARRYING A PASSENGER, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG ON LIGHT WILL TURN TO THE OFF POSITION. PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DISABLED WHILE PASSENGER IS IN VEHICLE AT ANY GIVEN SPEED RANDOMLY. COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE SEVERE INJURY/DEATH IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE OWNED MULTIPLE 2012+ IMPREZAS WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BIG LIGHT SPORADICALLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. UPDATED 3/31/15*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN A PASSENGER WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT, UPDATED 04/30/15*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONTAL AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
THE DASHBOARD "AIRBAG MALFUNCTION" LIGHT TURNS ON AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT SWITCHES TO "OFF" WHILE THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR. THIS PROBABLY MEANS THAT IF THERE WAS A COLLISION, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY, WITH PASSENGER IN FRONT SEAT. IT WAS HAPPENING ABOUT 40% OF THE TIME THAT I HAD A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. TOOK THIS TO ALEXANDRIA'S BEYER SUBARU AND THEY WERE ABLE TO PULL THE CODE/REPRODUCE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE IS SOME SENSOR IN THE SEAT THAT CAUSES THIS MALFUNCTION. THEY ARE REPLACING THE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE (COVERED UNDER WARRANTY). ..UPDATED 01/20/15 *TR UPDATED 08/28/2017*CT
IN A CRIME RIDDEN NEIGHBORHOOD I HAD A FLAT TIRE WHICH I WAS UNABLE TO CHANGE. THIS WAS DUE TO MY SUBARU LABELED AND PACKAGED "MCGARD" WHEEL KEY WHICH CRACKED AND BECAME UNUSABLE. TIRE SALES AND REPAIR FACILITY SUMMONED FOR ASSISTANCE REPORTS THEY HAVE A "BUCKET" FULL OF THIS BRAND OF WHEEL LOCK "KEYS" WHICH CRACKED AND BECAME UNUSABLE. AFTER MY FIRST MCGARD WHEEL LOCK KEY CRACKED, MCGARD SENT ME A FREE WHEEL LOCK "KEY" AND SAID THE ORIGINAL CRACKED, BECAUSE SOMEONE USED EXCESSIVE AIR-WRENCH TORQUE TO REMOVE LUG NUTS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE UNTRUE, BECAUSE TO ELIMINATE THIS POSSIBILITY, I PERSONALLY ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE FOUR KEYED WHEEL LOCKS (WITH MY BRAND NEW WHEEL LOCK KEY) PRIOR TO A TIRE ROTATION AT A TIRE SALES FACILITY. THE BRAND NEW WHEEL LOCK KEY CRACKED AGAIN (AFTER THE THIRD MCGARD LUG), SIMPLY BY ME TRYING TO REMOVE THE KEYED LUGS. IT SHOULD BE NOTED SUBARU LUG NUT TORQUE HAD BEEN APPROXIMATELY 62' LBS., AND IT IS NOW APPROXIMATELY 85' LBS. PLEASE ALSO SEE MY OTHER NHTSA COMPLAINT REGARDING THE UNUSABLE SUBARU SUPPLIED LUG WRENCH. I BELIEVE THIS AFFECTS 2013 MODELS, AND VERY POSSIBLY MODEL YEARS PRIOR TO 2012. *TR
UPON ENTERING A PARKING GARAGE AND PARKING, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL. I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY HAVING JUST MADE SEVERAL TURNS WITHIN THE GARAGE AND THEN ALIGNED, AS USUAL, WITH THE LINES TO PARK. THE CAR REVVED EXTREMELY HIGH AND TOOK OFF STRAIGHT INTO THE WALL THROWING ME BACK IN TO THE SEAT. I ONLY NEEDED TO SOFTLY TAP THE BRAKES TO BREAK NORMALLY, BUT IT TOOK OFF. AFTER THE INCIDENT, I MADE SURE TO CHECK THE FOOT PEDAL AREA TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS INTERFERING WITH THE GAS, BUT NOTHING WAS NEAR. THE MATS ARE CUT WELL AWAY FROM THE PEDALS. I SUFFERED BURNS/SCRAPES FROM THE SEAT BELT ACROSS MY COLLAR BONE, WHIPLASH FROM THE IMPACT, AS WELL AS, A SORE CHEST ALSO FROM THE IMPACT AND SEAT BELT. I FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS POSSESSED AND TOOK OVER. I REFUSE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. I AM SCARED THAT SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN HURT, OR WORSE, DUE TO THIS DEFECT IN THE CAR. *TR
WHEN SOMEONE SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT LEANS SLIGHTLY, THE AIRBAG SENSOR FREQUENTLY MALFUNCTIONS AND THE CAR TURNS OFF THE AIRBAGS FOR THAT SEAT, AS INDICATED BY THE LIGHTED DASHBOARD INDICATOR SIGN. *TR
MY SUBARU IS EQUIPPED WITH A PASSENGER AIRBAG MONITOR. WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE LIGHT SHOULD INDICATE THE AIRBAG IS ON. WHEN A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE FRONT SEAT OF MY IMPREZA, THE AIRBAG CONSISTENTLY TURNS OFF. I CALLED SUBARU THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED, THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT IN A SECOND TIME WITH THE SAME RESPONSE. I AM NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TURNS OFF ABOUT 75% OF THE TIME SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. *TR
THIS SUBARU TAKES SYNTHETIC OIL, WHICH SHOULD LAST A MINIMUM OF 6000 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. EVERY OIL CHANGE I HAVE HAD ON THIS CAR (I CHANGE IT EVERY 7500 MILES), I HAVE HAD TO ADD AN EXTRA QUART OF OIL BY ABOUT 3000 MILES INTO AN OIL CHANGE. THIS HAS DONE THIS FROM THE VERY BEGINNING OF OWNERSHIP. A BRAND NEW CAR SHOULD NOT BURN UP OIL SO QUICKLY. THIS CAN HAS BEEN SO MANY HEADACHES FROM THE MOMENT I PURCHASED IT. ELECTRICAL FAILURES, PASSENGER AIRBAGS NOT WORKING, GPS SYSTEM FAILURE, BRAKES NOT RESPONDING AS THEY SHOULD...THE LIST GOES ON. *TR
SPONTANEOUS CRACKS IN WINDSHIELD. CAR WAS NOT IN USE AND SITTING IN OPEN SPACE. NO VISIBLE CHIPS OR ANY REASON FOR THIS OCCURRENCE. *TR
OIL LIGHT CAME ON. SUBARU MANUAL SAYS TO CHANGE OIL EVERY 7,500 MILES. THEY USE SYNTHETIC OIL WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE. HAD TO FIND A DEALER WHO ADDED A QUART OF OIL. HAD THE 15,000 MILE SERVICE AND LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AT 18,000 AND AT 19,800. BOTH TIMES OIL WAS ADDED. SUBARU SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. HOWEVER, I DON'T FEEL I CAN MAKE A TRIP OF ANY EXTENSIVE MILEAGE SAFELY. ESPECIALLY WHEN SUBARU IS PUTTING IN A SYNTHETIC OIL THAT MIGHT BE DIFFICULT TO FIND. *TR
I SIDESWIPED A PARKED CAR AND THE MOMENTUM CAUSED MY CAR TO FLIP OVER AND LAND ON ITS ROOF. HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE ADJUSTER BUT IT IS OBVIOUS THE CAR IS "TOTALED". WRITING TO YOU TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I ALSO WROTE TO SUBARU TO ADVISE THEM THAT I THINK THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED BUT NONE OF THEM DID. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN UNION, N.J. *TR
WHEN DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER AND GOING ON A HIGHWAY, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR FOR THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SHOWS "OFF", MEANING IF THERE WAS A COLLISION, THERE WOULD BE NO AIR BAGS. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER, THEY FINALLY TEST DROVE WITH A PASSENGER AND GOT IT TO FAIL. THE SENSORS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WERE REPLACED. THERE ARE OTHER REPORTS ON THIS PROBLEM AND SUBARU SHOULD RECALL THE VEHICLES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 01/16/15. *JB
GAS PEDAL IS ULTRASENSITIVE LEADING TO SURGING AT LOW SPEED. HARD TO CONTROL VEHICLE AT LOW SPEED MANEUVERING IN PARKING LOT. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. YOU WILL FIND MANY DISCUSSIONS ON THE WEB IF YOU SEARCH FOR "SUBARU SENSITIVE GAS PEDAL, A GENERALLY KNOWN ISSUE. FIND MANY DISCUSSIONS ABOUT "REMAPPING" AND JACK-RABBIT STARTS. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG FAULT LIGHT WENT ON WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD SHUT ENGINE OFF RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY SINCE THEN IN A RANDOM MANNER WITH THE LIGHT OCCASIONALLY STAYING ON EVEN AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THAT THEY COULD DO NOTHING SINCE THE WARNING LIGHT AT THAT TIME WAS OFF. IMO THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE SINCE ONE NEVER KNOWS IF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL BE FUNCTIONAL. *TR
DRIVING ABOUT 30 - 35MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST POWER. THE CAR DID NOT STALL, BUT ENGINE WENT DOWN TO IDLE SPEED AND MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD NO THROTTLE CONTROL. THE "CHECK ENGINE " LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE "TRACTION CONTROL" LIGHT. I DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD TO CHECK ENGINE - OBSERVED NOTHING UNUSUAL - I RE-STARTED THE CAR. THE CAR SEEMED BACK TO NORMAL, BUT THE ENGINE CODE LIGHTS STAYED ON. THE WARNING LIGHTS EVENTUALLY TURNED THEMSELVES OFF - 3 OR 4 RE-STARTS LATER. SUBARU DEALER REPORTED A P2138 OBD CODE, BUT HE DID NOT REPLACE/REPAIR ANYTHING. THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED 9 MONTHS LATER (JULY 2, 2014), AND SUBARU DEALER REPORTED A P2138 CODE ONCE AGAIN. NO REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS DONE! *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING CONTINUOUS ISSUES WITH OIL CONSUMPTION IN MY 2012 IMPREZA 2.0I. I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN 2500 MILES SINCE MY OIL CHANGE AND MY LOW OIL LIGHT IS ON. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I'VE HAD TO TOP UP THE OIL AND THE PROBLEM IS ONLY GETTING WORSE! *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AFTER GETTING OFF WORK AT !:30 AM WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. FROM TIME TO TIME SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW, THE ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER WHILE DRIVING. IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE WAS A CUT IN THE FUEL FILTER. OUR MECHANIC SAID IT WAS UNLIKELY THAT IT HAPPENED ANY TIME EXCEPT WHEN THE FILTER AND FUEL PUMP WERE INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR USING OIL...MINE DOES TOO. *TR
THE SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX. NO IMPACT, CALM WEATHER (NO DEBRIS FLYING AROUND), NO OTHER VEHICLES NEARBY (THAT COULD HAVE THROWN A ROCK OR SOMETHING). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ERRONEOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,116.
UNABLE TO CHANGE FLAT TIRE. THE WHEEL-NUT OR LUG-NUT TORQUE REQUIRED BY SUBARU IS 89FT LBS. THIS TORQUE WAS THE TORQUE ON MY WHEEL-NUTS, AS VERIFIED TWICE BY A NEW-TIRE SALES FACILITY. WITH SUBARU'S 11 1/2" WRENCH, MOST WOMEN AND MANY MEN (MYSELF INCLUDED) CANNOT LOOSEN THESE NUTS. MY WEIGHTLIFTING NEIGHBOR COULD NOT BELIEVE HE COULD NOT LOOSEN THE LUG-NUTS WITH THE SUPPLIED WRENCH. THEY ARE THAT TIGHT! THE OWNER'S MANUAL CAUTIONS NOT TO STAND ON THE WRENCH. THIS CONDITION CAN LEAVE SOMEONE STRANDED, PERHAPS IN A DANGEROUS AREA, OR UNDER DANGEROUS CONDITIONS. SUBARU SHOULD VERIFY THIS PROBLEM, BY HAVING INDIVIDUALS TRY TO LOOSEN THE NUTS. ANYONE WITH THIS VEHICLE (DO OTHER MODELS ALSO HAVE THIS CONDITION?) IS ADVISED TO FIGURE A WAY TO REMOVE THESE NUTS BEFORE AN EMERGENCY OCCURS. *TR
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION: I AM EXPERIENCING A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH MY SUBARU IMPREZA 2012 WITH EXCESSIVE USE OF OIL AND THE OIL LIGHT GOING ON. I UNDERSTAND FROM THE SERVICE PEOPLE THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY "BLOWBACK" PAST THE CYLINDERS, CAUSING EXCESSIVE OIL USE, INCONVENIENCE TO OWNERS, AND AN INFLATED COST OF OWNERSHIP (SYNTHETIC OIL IS $8/QT.) SUBARU INSISTS THIS IS NORMAL BUT WHEN I TRADED IN MY LEXUS AT 257,000 MILES WITH NEVER AN ADDITIONAL DROP OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES, I CERTAINLY DIDN'T EXPECT TO TRADE IT IN FOR AN OIL GUZZLER LIKE THE SUBARU IMPREZA. SUBARU WILL DO NOTHING AND INSISTS THIS IS NORMAL - - AT LEAST FOR THEM! IT WAS FIXED FOR THE 2013 AND 2014 MODELS BUT THEY ARE AVOIDING DOING ANYTHING FOR THOSE WHO PURCHASED THE 2012 MODEL AND ARE EXPERIENCING VERY INFLATED COST OF OWNERSHIP AS WELL AS TREMENDOUS INCONVENIENCE. *TR
2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THE INSTALLATION OF VEHICLE REMOTE STARTER. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL REGARDING THE REMOTE STARTED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE REMOTE THAT WAS INSTALLED IN HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT A SUBARU MANUFACTURED UNIT, AND THEREFORE NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL.
11/30/2013 WHILE I WAS DRIVING I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL ON MY IPHONE 4 AT 9:35PM. THE ENGINE STOPPED BUT BLOWER FOR HEATER, LIGHTS AND RADIO REMAINED FUNCTIONAL. I PULLED OVER COASTED TO A STOP AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. MY PHONE WAS NOT CONNECTED VIA BLUETOOTH TO THE VEHICLE. 1/24/2014 WHILE I WAS WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT (0 MPH) AT 7:45 AM I UNPLUGGED A HEADPHONE CABLE FROM MY IPHONE 4. THE ENGINE STOPPED BUT BLOWER FOR HEATER, LIGHTS AND RADIO REMAINED FUNCTIONAL. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. MY PHONE WAS NOT CONNECTED VIA BLUETOOTH TO THE VEHICLE. *TR
ADDENDUM TO 12/30/13 COMPLAINT: IN ADDITION TO THE PREVIOUSLY OUTLINED PROBLEMS: 1. CAR IS NOW LOOSING OIL. AT 26,500 MILES THE LOW OIL LEVEL LIGHT CAME ON. CHECKED OIL LEVEL AND REVEALED CAR HAD LOST APPROX 1.5-2 QT SINCE LAST REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE. 2. BRAKES SQUEAL WHEN YOU FIRST COMPRESS THE PEDAL. I HAD THE BRAKES INSPECTED AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THEM OR THE BRAKE PAD. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS NORMAL TO OCCUR EVERY TIME YOU TOUCH THE BRAKES UNLESS SOMETHING IS WRONG. BRAKES DID NOT START MAKING NOISE UNTIL 25,000 MILES. **NO CONFIDENCE THIS CAR IS TRUSTWORTHY. SERIOUSLY WORRIED ABOUT ITS RELIABILITY/ COST TO REPAIR AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRES.** *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, ENGINE POWER CUT OUT, AND COMPLETE LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL OCCURRED. THE CAR COULD ONLY ACCELERATE EXTREMELY SLOWLY, AND NOT PAST 20-25 MPH. THANKFULLY NOT ON A HIGH-SPEED ROAD. MANAGED TO GET HOME (BARELY), CAR WORKED FINE THE NEXT DAY. DEALER FOUND OBD CODE P0128, REPROGRAMMED ECM TO REMOVE THE CODE. THE SAME PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED ~1 YEAR PREVIOUSLY DUE TO A FAULTY ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR (NHTSA COMPLAINT RECENTLY FILED). DEALER CLAIMS CAUSES ARE UNRELATED. THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IF IT OCCURS ON A HIGHWAY, WE NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, ENGINE POWER WAS LOST, AND COMPLETE LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL OCCURRED. CAR WOULD ACCELERATE EXTREMELY SLOWLY, AND NOT PAST 20-25 MPH (PRESUMABLY 'ENGINE FAIL-SAFE MODE'?). THANKFULLY NOT ON A HIGH-SPEED ROAD. OBD CODE WAS P2138, INDICATING A FAULTY ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR, WHICH WAS REPLACED BY DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WITH A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE 'PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF' LIGHT BECOME ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED ILLUMINATED, INDICATING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS OFF. AFTER PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, THE SENSOR BEHAVES NORMALLY. INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED 3-4 TIMES SINCE, WITH NO APPARENT PATTERN RELATED TO VEHICLE SPEED/DRIVING CONDITIONS. SUBARU DEALERSHIP SERVICE HAS CLAIMED IT MAY BE RELATED TO PASSENGER WEIGHT OR SHIFTING IN THE SEAT, OR CELLULAR PHONE CHARGERS NEARBY. INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED WITH OR WITHOUT SAID CHARGERS PRESENT IN THE CAR, WITH PASSENGERS WEIGHING 130 LBS AND 190 LBS. ALSO, THE RELEVANT SENSOR (OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM, OR ODS) IN THE 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA IS NOT BASED ON WEIGHT AT ALL, BUT ON ELECTROSTATIC CAPACITANCE. SEEMINGLY RANDOM MALFUNCTION OF THE ODS RESULTING IN DEACTIVATION OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WITH AN ADULT SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT CONSTITUTES DANGEROUS FAILURE OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. *TR
2012 IMPREZA... BOUGHT NEW, NOTHING BUT HEADACHES. ALL PROBLEMS LISTED BELOW OCCURRED BEFORE I HAD EVEN OWNED THE CAR 2 YEARS. 1. AT 8-10K MILES - WHILE DRIVING CAR WOULD RANDOMLY TURN OFF PASSENGER AIRBAGS AND ILLUMINATE NO PASSENGER SEATBELT ON THE DASH. TOOK CAR TO DEALER 3 TIMES. DEALER REFUSED TO FIX AS THE "ERROR WAS NOT STORED IN THE COMPUTER." SUGGESTED CELL PHONE WAS THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH CELL PHONES WERE NOT NEAR THE SEAT DURING EACH OF THE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS. I HAD TO COMPLAIN TO CORPORATE WHO TOLD THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT. NO PROBLEMS SINCE. 2. AT 15K MILES - MULTIPLE TIMES CAR WOULD TURN ON CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT SIMULTANEOUSLY. FIRST INCIDENT DEALER SAID "DIRTY CAMSHAFT SENSOR." SECOND INCIDENT I HAD TO REFUSE TO TAKE THE CAR BACK UNTIL THEY ACTUALLY FIXED A PART. DEALER KEPT CAR A WHOLE WEEK AND MADE CALLS TO CORPORATE ENGINEERS. TESTS REVEALED IT WAS A "FAILED OIL PRESSURE VALVE." REPLACED THE PART AND NO MORE PROBLEMS. 3. AT 25K MILES - BAD BATTERY. HAD TO REPLACE WHEN CAR WAS ONLY 1 YEAR AND 10 MONTHS OLD. *TR
PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT TURNS FROM ON TO OFF WITH A PASSENGER SITTING THERE. MANUAL SAYS THIS HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS MOISTURE IN THE SEAT. FIRST OF ALL, THE AIRBAG SHOULD NOT TURN OFF FOR THAT REASON, THAT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. SECOND, IT TURNS OFF EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO MOISTURE. IT SCARES ME. I NEED TO KNOW THAT THE AIRBAG IS STILL WORKING EVEN IF THAT OFF LIGHT IS ON IF MY SON IS SITTING THERE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CONTACT ADDED ONE QUART OF OIL TO THE VEHICLE, WHICH ONLY LASTED APPROXIMATELY 900 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,500 UPDATED 01/14/14 *BF
MY SUBARU IMPRERA'S LOW ENGINE OIL LIGHT HAS BEEN ON MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE APRIL OF THIS YEAR AND HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF SUBARU DEALER TO NO AVAIL. THOUGH THE OIL CONSUMPTION RATE IS ABNORMAL AND THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE COMMON AMONG CERTAIN SUBARU MODELS, SUBARU OF AMERICA HAS BEEN ASSERTING THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR AN AUTOMOBILE TO CONSUME A QUART OF OIL ABOUT EVERY THOUSAND MILES. *TR
LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT ON DASH. BROUGHT TO DEALER. NO ACTION. OIL WARNING LIGHT ON 3 TIMES SINCE THEN. STILL NO ACTION TAKEN BY DEALER. SUBARU DEALER DOES NOT DENY OIL IS BEING BURNED BUT STATES THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR A NEW CAR. WE HAVE BEGUN AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BUT THE CAR CONTINUES TO BURN OIL. WE WILL HAVE TO DRIVE ANOTHER 2400 MILES TO GET THE RESULTS OF THE TEST. THE CAR ONLY HAS 17,000 MILES BUT OIL WARNING LIGHT COMES ON INDICATING LOW OIL EVERY 1,200 TO 1,500 MILES. STILL AWAITING RESPONSE FROM SUBARU. *TR
USUALLY IT SHOULD BE ON, WITH A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WHILE DRIVING. BUT SINCE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF INDICATOR LIGHT TURNED ON WHEN THERE WAS PASSENGER SITTING IN THE CAR. THIS.HAPPENED ABOUT 5-6 TIMES DURING THE LAST 3 MONTHS. WE MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND SENT THE CAR TO GARAVEL SUBARU DEALER IN NORWALK, CT ON 9/5/13 AT THE MILAGE AROUND 29,000MILES. THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR FOR JUST 10 MINUTES AND COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUE RELATED TO THIS. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN ONCE AFTER ABOVE VISIT. I HOPE DMV COULD HELP ME TO SOLVE THIS SAFETY RELATED ISSUE BEFORE THE CAR WARRANTY EXPIRES AT 36K. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
WHILE DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ON THE DASH BOARD WENT FROM ON TO OFF AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DRIVERS DASH. THIS HAS OCCURRED A FEW OTHER TIMES BUT ONLY OCCURS WHEN THERE IS A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT. *JB
THE PASSANGER AIRBAG IS IN OFF POSITION WITH PERSON SITTING IN SEAT. HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY. DEALERSHIP CLAIMS THAT "IT SHOWS NO EROS WHEN THE TEST IT". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO SAW OIL LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS A ROD LOOSE IN CYLINDER FOUR. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,100.
FOLLOWED TOO CLOSELY THROUGH A DOUBLE INTERSECTION WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING LIGHT. POLICE OFFICER DIRECTED TRAFFIC THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BUT APPARENTLY WE HAD TO STOP BEFORE THE SECOND INTERSECTION. APPARENTLY I SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH THAT THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I INDICATED 20 BUT SURELY MY AIRBAG WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED AT THAT SPEED. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR UNDER ITS OWN POWER OFF THE ROAD INTO A SUBWAY PARKING LOT. AS I WAS MANEUVERING INTO A PARKING SPOT THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT SEEMS STRANGE TO ME THAT IF I WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH FOR THE AIRBAG NOT TO DEPLOY BUT FOR SOME COMPONENTS TO CATCH ON FIRE THAT THE CAR IS ROAD WORTHY. WORTH LOOKING INTO? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL CONSTANT PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V562000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC); HOWEVER WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
CRACK IN TIRE SIDEWALL. NO EXTERIOR DAMAGE. TIRE GUY SAID PROBLEM IN MANUFACTURE. *TR
THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED TWICE, SO I FEEL IT'S NECESSARY TO REPORT IT TO THE NHTSA. THE FIRST TIME THIS ISSUE WAS HAPPENING, I WAS FOLLOWING ANOTHER CAR GOING SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL AT ABOUT 30MPH. THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT WAS 35MPH SO I FELT LIKE I WAS CONSTANTLY SWITCHING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THROTTLE AND BRAKE, BUT NOT SO QUICKLY AS TO PRESS THEM AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURED, THERE WERE THREE SOLID YELLOW/ORANGE/GOLD (DEPENDING ON HOW YOU LOOK AT COLORS) LIGHTS LIT UP SOLIDLY IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER: THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, THE ABS LIGHT, AND THE HILL HOLD ASSIST LIGHT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT WHICH WAS ABOUT 15 FEET AWAY. I TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET THE LIGHTS TO GO AWAY BEFORE TURNING THE CAR OFF, AND WHEN NOTHING WORKED I FINALLY JUST CYCLED THE IGNITION OFF THEN BACK ON. ALL THREE MAGICALLY WENT AWAY BY DOING THIS. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ONLY A FEW DAYS AGO AND I WAS LITERALLY JUST SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY ON A LEVEL SURFACE. MY HOUSE IS RECESSED INTO THE GROUND ABOUT 10 FEET FROM THE TOP OF MY DRIVEWAY, WHERE THE TOP IS ACTUALLY LEVEL AND IT IS WHERE I WAS SITTING AT. SITTING THERE, I REVVED MY ENGINE AND SLOWLY ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY (IN NEUTRAL, SO I DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE). BEFORE THE RPMS WENT BACK TO AN IDLE I STARTED ROLLING DOWN OUR DRIVEWAY (WHICH IS AT LEAST A 30 DEGREE SLOPE DOWNHILL) BUT WHEN ROLLING DOWN I WAS DEFINITELY ON THE BRAKES A LITTLE AS TO NOT GO EVEN PAST 1MPH -- SO VERY SLOW. I NOTICED ALL THREE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME I DECIDED TO LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE SO I CAN TRY EVEN MORE TROUBLESHOOTING. STILL NO RESULTS UNLESS I CYCLED THE IGNITION. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER TODAY FOR AN ECM UPDATE THEY SENT ME IN THE MAIL, AND THEY SAID THEY DID SEE A "BRAKE SWITCH ERROR" FOR CODE "HISTORY" BUT THERE WERE NO CURRENT CODES. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH SHOWS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
I BACKED UP IN MY DRIVEWAY AND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND I NOTICED A LAG TIME OF ABOUT 2 SECONDS SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. I CONTACTED THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP AND THE STAFF ASSURED ME THAT WAS NORMAL FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION. WHEN I TOOK THE SUBARU IMPREZA FOR THE 2500 MILE CHECK UP AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE ALSO FELT THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHEN BACKING UP INTO TRAFFIC AND WAITING FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND IT'S "SLOW ENGAGEMENT" INTO DRIVE. HE HAS EXPRESSED HIS VIEWS TO SUBARU AND LIKE ME HAS BEEN ASSURED IT'S OK. I STILL FEEL IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE AIRBAGS IN THIS VEHICLE TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING (DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DASHBOARD ICONS INDICATE AIRBAGS ARE TURNED OFF). VEHICLE MUST BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED FOR THE AIRBAGS TO TURN BACK ON. THERE SEEMS TO BE A RELATIONSHIP TO ELECTRONIC INTERFERENCE - PASSENGER USE OF IPHONE OR IPAD MAY BE INVOLVED - BUT IT HAS HAPPENED WITH NO PASSENGER AS WELL. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN ONE DAY RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH ALTITUDE (PIKES PEAK, CO). PROBABLY RELATED: THE SEAT BELT ALARM HAS GONE OFF WHEN IPHONE IS PLACED ON EMPTY PASSENGER SEAT WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I STARTED NOTICING THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT WASN'T ALWAYS "ON" WHEN THERE WAS A PASSENGER SEATED THERE. IT SEEMED TO MALFUNCTION MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN A HEAVIER PERSON WAS ON THE SEAT. ATTEMPTS TO GET IT TO ACTIVATE (UNBUCKLING AND REBUCKLING SEATBELT, BOUNCING ON THE SEAT, STOPPING THE CAR AND RESTARTING) ALL HAD NO EFFECT. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR STATED THAT IT WAS DISABLED RANDOMLY (WHETHER CAR WAS IN MOTION OR NOT), EVEN THOUGH SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON DASHBOARD. TO CORRECT ISSUE, VEHICLE HAD TO BE RESTARTED MULTIPLE TIMES, SO THAT AIRBAG WOULD REACTIVATE. THIS WOULD NEED TO BE REPEATED, AS ISSUE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY. IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, AIRBAG MOST LIKELY WOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED DUE TO FAULTY PASSENGER SENSOR. SUBARU STATED AIRBAG MODULE REQUIRED REPLACING, AFTER INSPECTION WAS MADE. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG TURNED OFF WITH ADULT SITTING IN THE SEAT. SENSOR REPLACED BY DEALER IN JULY 2012, BROUGHT BACK AUGUST 2012 WITH SAME PROBLEM. WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE MALFUNCTION WAS CAUSED BY EITHER AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE (CELL PHONE) ON THE SEAT OR THE SENSOR MAY HAVE BEEN WET. I CONTACTED SUBARU NORTH AMERICA WITH THIS EXPLANATION AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE NEW SENSORING TECHNOLOGY USED IN THE IMPREZA, WAS SENSITIVE TO ELECTRONIC PULSES AND ALSO MOISTURE AND POSSIBLY SWEAT. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE AIRBAG MAY TURN-OFF AND WOULD NOT BE ACTIVATED DURING A COLLISION. SUBARU NOW CONSIDERS THIS MATTER CLOSED. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA SPORT PREMIUM ON 12/24/2011. IT HAD LESS THAN 100 MILES WHEN PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER. AT 1200 MILES, THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS VERY LOW. I CALLED BROADWAY SUBARU IN OAKLAND,CA ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I EXPLAINED, HOW CAN A BRAND NEW CAR HAVE LOW OIL? THEY SAID THIS IS COMMON AND TO ADD OIL. ADDED OIL AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. TODAY, THE LIGHT APPEARED AGAIN AT 5560 MILES. OIL AGAIN IS LOW BUT WITHIN NORMAL LEVELS. I CALLED BROADWAY SUBARU AND TOLD THEM THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, THE GUY EXPLAINED THIS IS NORMAL FOR ALL CARS TO BURN OIL, WHETHER IT'S AN AMERICAN CAR, JAPANESE, OR ANYTHING ELSE. IS HE SERIOUS? I HONDAS FOR CLOSE TO 20 YEARS AND NEVER EVER DID AN OIL LIGHT COME ON, LET ALONE ON A NEW ENGINE WHICH IS NOT DUE FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE UNTIL 7500 MILES. I MADE AN APPT FOR 8/24/2012. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE OCCUPANCY SEAT SENSOR DETECTED WETNESS FROM THE PASSENGER'S CLOTHING WHICH RESULTED TO THE SENSOR NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,800. UPDATED 08/29/12*LJ
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A PASSENGER, AIRBAG LIGHT SWITCHES TO OFF AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATES. PASSENGER CAN THEN UNBUCKLE SEAT BELT AND NO ALARMS SOUND ALERTING THAT THE SEATBELT IS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY BLAMED IT ON A PAIR OF JUMPER CABLES UNDER THE SEAT. SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME IT COULD HAPPEN IF SOMEONE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH WATER IN THEIR SYSTEM, WHICH IS BS. IF ITS NOT BS THEN I DON'T FEEL SAFE WITH A PASSENGER. EVEN AFTER JUMPER CABLES WERE REMOVED THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. HAVE SEEN MANY ISSUES ON FORUMS WITH SAME PROBLEM. *JS
POWER STEERING FAILED UNEXPECTEDLY, DEALER VERIFIED IT WAS DUE TO A CRACKED WIRING HARNESS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG INDICATOR WAS INDICATING THAT IT WAS OFF WHILE A PASSENGER WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THIS IS UNUSUAL BECAUSE IF SOMETHING SUCH AS A PURSE IS PLACED IN THE SEAT, THE INDICATOR WILL CHANGE FROM OFF TO ON DUE TO THE SEAT BEING OCCUPIED. I THINK THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND I FEAR DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. THIS IS VERY ALARMING TO ME BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY TIMES I HAVE 4 CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME. 3 IN THE BACK OF COURSE AND ONE IN THE FRONT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK ON THEIR OWN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN WITHOUT ENGAGING THE LOCK BUTTON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS INTENDED. UPDATED 7/26/12 *CN THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IF HE LOCKED THE DOORS AND TRIED TO EXIT THE DRIVERS DOOR (OR ANY OF THE DOORS), THE DOOR MUST BE UNLOCKED BEFORE THE DOOR WILL OPEN. UPDATED 08/07/12 THE CONSUMER STATED WITH ALL THE VEHICLES HE HAS DRIVEN/RENTED, HE HAS NEVER SEEN A SITUATION WHERE THIS WAS THE CASE. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH WHERE FUEL IS LEAKING, THE EXTRA SECONDS NEEDED TO RESET THE LOCK COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GETTING OUT THE CAR WITHOUT INJURY OR SUFFERING SIGNIFICANT/FATAL INJURY. UPDATED 03/26/13
THE REAR-END LIGHTING (BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS) FOR A NUMBER OF RECENT MODEL YEARS FROM A FEW MANUFACTURERS IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. IF IT HASN'T ALREADY CAUSED ACCIDENTS I WOULD BE COMPLETELY AMAZED. I HAVE SEEN, ON AT LEAST SUBARUS AND VOLKSWAGENS, BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WHICH ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DISTINGUISH IN REAL-LIFE DRIVING SCENARIOS. I AM AN EXCEPTIONALLY SKILLED AND ATTENTIVE DRIVER SO THIS HASN'T CAUSED ME ANY HARM YET, BUT I KNOW MOST DRIVERS ARE NOT SKILLED OR ATTENTIVE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT 65 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE ACTED AS IF I HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IT STARTED TO DECELERATE AND WHEN I PRESSED DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT ONLY REVVED THE RPM'S HIGHER. IT DID NOT SPEED UP TO ALLOW ME TO SAFELY GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. I TRIED MANUALLY SHIFTING THE AUTOMATIC CVT TRANSMISSION, BUT THIS MADE NO DIFFERENCE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON AT THE TIME. I TURNED ON MY FLASHERS AND WAS ABLE TO GO FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE SHOULDER. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, SHUT OFF THE IGNITION AND LET IT SET FOR A MINUTE. I THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP. THEY TESTED IT FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE INCIDENT. THEY SAID THAT THERE WERE NO CODES STORED AND I DID NOT SEE ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THEY ALSO SAID THEY FILED A CLAIM WITH SUBARU NORTH AMERICA. THE SERVICE TECH SAID HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING WITH SUBARU. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ALL OF THE WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 500.
TOOK DELIVERY OF VEHICLE THAT HAD RECALL WVY-35 COMPLETED PRE-DELIVERY. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES OF DRIVING (65 TOTAL ODOMETER MILES), BRAKING FORCE DROPPED TO NEAR ZERO. INSPECTION REVEALED SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. PROBLEM FIRST MANIFESTED WITH SLOWLY SINKING BRAKE PEDAL AT STOPS, WITH BRAKING STILL EFFECTIVE, BUT QUICKLY DEVELOPED TO THE POINT THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO FULLY TO THE FLOOR WITH SEVERELY REDUCED BRAKE FORCE. *TR
