Our daughter's veh. has mold in the rt front & rt rear seat flooring. The inside of the windshield has water to the point that it is very hard to see out of it at night and the pano. glass roof also has water inside of the suv as well. We have taken the veh. to (2) glass shops & a body shop & they are saying this is a safety & defect issue with this model. We researched on this & there are thousand of consumers who have the same complaints & concerns about the mold that this has caused & also many cases electrical issues inside this model suv. no matter what year same issues. We also know of a relative same thing same model & leakage as well and luckily hers so far no mold as of yet. Our daughter cannot use this suv due to the mold & is forced to use another veh. to get to college. We have video and photos showing the water in the veh & inside the rt windows during the night & day time. We have tried getting this resolved & have done all we could in so far as also going to the dealership but they did not want to hear it nor their VW "Care" dept. as well they just stated to contact NHTSA as our veh. could be included as again there are numerous complaints on this issue. Please let us know what is needed from us to investigate this. AFTER I TURN THE CAR OFF, THE FUEL HOSE CONNECTED TO THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS DOESN'T POPS OFF AND GASOLINE LEAKS ALL OVER MY ENGINE. THIS STARTED HAPPENS REPEATEDLY NOW. WHEN I GET INTO MY CAR, IT IS FILLED WITH THE SMELL OF THE GASOLINE THAT IS LEAKING BECAUSE THE HOSE DOESN'T STAY ON THE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE TO POP OPEN MY HOOD AND SLIDE THE HOSE ONTO THE FUEL PUMP BEFORE I START DRIVING. I'VE TRIED USING DIFFERENT BRACKETS TO KEEP THE HOSE TIGHT ON THE FUEL PUMP, HOWEVER, THE HOSE KEEPS ON FALLING OFF. I'M NOT SURE WHAT ELSE I CAN DO, AND I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW DANGEROUS IT IS THAT THERE ARE POOLS OF GASOLINE SITTING AROUND MY ENGINE.

WATER IS LEAKING FROM THE SUNROOM ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE WHEN IT RAINS. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE IT IS SOAKING THE AREA AROUND THE ELECTRONICS, AND HAS FLOODED THE FOOTWELLS OF THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, NOW THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HVAC SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND I CANNOT DE-FOG THE ENTIRE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS ALSO SIGNIFICANT MOLD BUILD UP FROM THE DAMP AREAS, AND IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA TO BREATHE THAT IN. WATER DRIPS AND SOAKS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN STATIONARY OR IN MOTION IN THE RAIN. LEAK HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO OPERATE AS NEEDED. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYMBOL APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHERE THE RACK AND PINION, STEERING ANGLE SENSOR, CLOCKSPRING, AND THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE WERE ALL REPLACED. THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE IN THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO UPDATE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED SHORTLY AFTER EACH REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.

I HAVE TO TURN ON THE CAR, POP THE HOOD, AND SEE HOW MUCH IT GOES BELOW THE MINIMUM LINE. THEN FILL TO MAXIMUM. DAILY REFILL STARTED AROUND OCTOBER 2019. WE LEFT THE CAR IN VW SERVICE WE RECEIVED THE DIAGNOSTIC: "REPLACE TIMING CHAIN AND TURBO." BY THE WAY, THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THEY REPLACE THE TURBO: ORIGINAL ONE, AND 2 REPLACEMENT. AFTER THEY CHANGE THE TURBO, THEY DISCOVERED A NEW PROBLEM WITH CAMSHAFT. OUR CAR HAS THE MPP COVERAGE, THE LAST OWNER HAS TOO. ALL THE REPAIR AND OIL CHANGE NEVER BE MADE BY OUTSIDE OF VW. THIS COST TO OUR COVERAGE AND FOR US A LOT OF MONEY AND WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME WITHOUT THE CAR. CAR WAS PARKED IN AN OUTSIDE PARKING LOT AFTER RETURNING FROM A 160 MILE TRIP. AFTER MY LUGGAGE WAS UNLOADED INTO MY APARTMENT, I WENT BACK TO THE CAR TO GO PARK IT IN THE DETACHED GARAGE. UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY. THE SHAKING STOPPED AFTER A FEW SECONDS AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED IN POSITION AND COULD NOT BE TURNED. AT THAT POINT THE STEERING POWER FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH A LOUD WARNING SOUND (I HAVE A VIDEO OF THIS EVENT THAT I CAN PROVIDE VIA EMAIL. I AM NOT ABLE TO UPLOAD IT HERE, THOUGH). I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LEAVE THE CAR AS IT WAS. I CHECKED THE CAR THE NEXT MORNING AN IT TURNED ON WITHOUT ISSUE. LATER THAT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST VW DEALER. I SHOWED THEM THE VIDEO OF WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY WERE IMMEDIATELY CONCERNED, BUT WHERE NOT ABLE TO OFFER ME AN APPOINTMENT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THE NEXT WEEK (TODAY), I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. I RECEIVED A CALL LATER INFORMING ME THAT THE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE STEERING RACK AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY STATED THAT IT IS A MAJOR HAZARD AND THAT THE DO NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING THE CAR. IF I DID WANT TO DRIVE THE CAR I WOULD HAVE TO SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY.

REPAIR NOW DIAGNOSED AS REPLACE STEERING RACK AND WIRING MODULE. CAR HAS 112K MILES MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING. NO OFF ROAD DRIVING. VW SAYS BEYOND WARRANTY NOT THEIR PROBLEM. $2200 TO REPAIR. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL START TO LOSE POWER AND AS YOU PREPARE FOR IT TO STALL IT REGAINS POWER AND SHOOTS FORWARD REGARDLESS OF HOW LIGHTLY YOU'RE GASSING IT. I HAVE GONE FOR SERVICE MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY RULED OUT BATTERY, CONNECTIONS, ALTERNATOR, ETC. AND SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER KEEPING THE CAR FOR DAYS AND DRIVING IT AROUND, YET IT HAS LITERALLY HAPPENED WHEN I HAVE BEEN LEAVING THE DEALER. THEY WOULD JUST RESET THE ENGINE LIGHT. AT 47,773 THE RESETTING WOULDN'T WORK AND WHEN INSPECTED, IT DIDN'T PASS AND I AM ONCE AGAIN TOLD I NEED A NEW TURBO UNIT. FROM WHAT THE SERVICE TECH SAYS, THE WASTE GATE IS WORN OUT. THIS HADN'T COME UP BEFORE. I'M NOW IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING IT REPAIRED. I CONTACTED VW CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO HELP WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR WHICH IS $2,200 OR MORE. IN ADDITION, IN AUGUST 2016, I HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL INJECTION. THE PART HAD TO BE MADE IN GERMANY. VW RENTED A CAR FOR ME FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEY ALSO PAID THE ENTIRE BILL. AT ONE POINT THEY OFFERED TO SELL ME A NEW CAR WITH A REDUCED PRICE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I GREATLY APPRECIATED THIS AND I KEPT THE CAR. I LOVE THE CAR MAKE AND MODEL, IT HAS NOT BEEN A SMOOTH ROAD, HOWEVER. THE CAR IS SIX YEARS OLD WITH 47,773 MILES. ON THIS JULY 4TH HOLIDAY, THE ENGINE OF OUR 2012 TIGUAN (LESS THAN 52K MILES, FIRST OWNER) BEGAN TO STUTTER ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH. THIS OCCURRED AT 70 MPH IN THE FAST LANE OF A 6-LANE FREEWAY AT A MERGE (I-85 AT THE MERGE WITH GA-400 SOUTHBOUND). EVEN AS THE VEHICLE DRAMATICALLY LOST SPEED, WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO THE SLOWER LANES SAFELY. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND FAST THAT AFTERNOON. I PROMPTLY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE VW DEALERSHIP (NALLEY VW OF ROSWELL) FOR THE FOLLOWING MORNING, ANXIOUS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. I WAS INFORMED THAT CYLINDER 2 WAS MISFIRING. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT COILS WOULD FAIL AT AS LOW A MILEAGE AND HAD CREATED AN UNSAFE SITUATION FOR US. IT APPEARS THERE ARE NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF COIL FAILURE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED AND INFORMED VW OF THE ISSUE. THEY DECLINED TO TAKE ANY ACTION TO COMPENSATE ME FOR SUCH PREMATURE COMPONENT FAILURE, LET ALONE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE FAILURE MADE FOR AN UNSAFE CONDITION ON THE ROAD. THE VW SERVICE CENTER REPLACED ALL FOUR COILS AND SPARK PLUGS THE FOLLOWING DAY, CORRECTING THE PROBLEM.

THIS ISSUE HAPPENED AT ABOUT 115,000 MILES AND RESULTED IN AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND WAS WORKING PROPERLY EARLIER IN THE DAY. UPON SEARCHING THE WEB, IT WAS NOTED THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE TO A POINT THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL SITES THAT OFFER "KITS" TO REPAIR THE ENGINE (JUST SEARCH "TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER ISSUE + VW TSI" ON GOOGLE). THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE TO VW AS THEY HAVE UPDATED THE TENSSIONER DESIGN. I WISH VW WOULD HAVE ISSUED A TSB/ RECALL TO UPDATE THE TENSIONER TO THE LASTED DESIGN AND PREVENT SUCH FAILURE.

BECAUSE IT WAS AFTER 5 YEARS FROM SALE) AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO FOR ME (E.G. I WAS ON MY OWN TO FIX IT). THE REPAIR WAS ~$1300 WHICH IS VERY FRUSTRATING ON A CAR WITH LOW MILES THAT IS DRIVEN CAREFULLY AND WELL CARED FOR. THIS SUV HAS APPROX 62,000 MILES ON IT. THE COST OF GETTING THE VALVES CLEANED RANGES ANYWHERE FROM $400 TO 1200. THIS PROBLEM IS AN INHERENT ISSUE WITH DESIGN AND THERE IS NOTHING A CONSUMEER CAN DO TO PREVENT IT. AS ONE REPAIR SHOP SAID, IT IS INEVITABLE AND ALL DIRECT INJECTION ENGINES WILL SUFFER THIS PROBLEM. I AM APPALLED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND WHEN THE DEALER SAYS IT IS A MAINTENANCE TYPE ITEM IT REALLY MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. PROPER MAINTENANCE SHOULD NEVER INCLUDE WALNUT BLASTING OF CARBON DEPOSITS ON VALVES!!! MANUFACTURERS NEED TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THEIR MISTAKES AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAWS. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, INDICATING CODE P0341. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF. TWO DRIVES LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON, AND WHILE DRIVING THE EPC LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LIGHT WHEN A NASTY RATTLE BECAME AUDIBLE. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENED UPON ACCELERATION, NEAR 2K RPM. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT OVER 30 MPH SINCE THIS ISSUE STARTED, ONLY ACCELERATING VERY GINGERLY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK INTO THE MECHANIC, AT WHICH POINT THEY INFORMED ME THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER AND GUIDES HAD FAILED OR WERE IN THE PROCESS OF FAILING. THEY INFORMED ME THAT REPAIRING THE TIMING CHAIN COMPONENTS WOULD COST $4000, BUT THAT THE ENGINE IS ALSO BURNING OIL. THEY RECOMMENDED A TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR $5400. I PURCHASED THE TIGUAN USED FROM LARSON VW IN TACOMA, WA NOVEMBER 2015 (JUST UNDER 2 YEARS AGO) WITH 59000 MILES ON IT. IT CURRENTLY HAS ~89000 MILES.

IN ADDITION, IF YOU WERE ABLE TO FINAGLE THE SEAT BELT OUT, SLOWLY AND PATIENTLY WHILE IT CONTINUALLY LOCKS AND GAINING ENOUGH SLACK TO STRAP YOURSELF IN AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, IT COULD INCORRECTLY LOCK WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING PREVENTING YOU FROM MOVING YOUR TORSO AROUND TO PROPERLY CHECK BLIND SPOTS, MIRRORS, ETC. OUR SITUATION QUICKLY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE WE COULDN'T EVEN GET ENOUGH SLACK TO STRAP OURSELVES IN AND WERE FORCED TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING MISFIRES DUE TO THE BUILD UP. THIS CARBON BUILD UP IS A KNOWN NEGATIVE RESULT OF A DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE, AND I'M NOT THE FIRST TO EXPERIENCE IT. MY DEALER ADDED A FUEL ADDITIVE TWO DIFFERENT TIMES TO TRY TO REMEDY THE SOLUTION, AT VWOA'S ADVICE, BUT THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM--AND REALLY, HOW COULD IT SINCE THE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE DOES NOT LET FUEL INTO THE VALVES (WHERE FIRING WOULD BURN OFF THE CARBON BUILD UP). THE DIRECT INJECTION ENGINE SEEMS FINE FROM AN MPG STANDPOINT, BUT THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH REGULAR CLEANING ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT VW AND OTHER AUTOMAKERS SHOULD AT LEAST DISCLOSE AT PURCHASE, OR RESOLVE VIA ENGINEERING.

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO RAPIDLY DECELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY! AS IT TURNS OUT, THE TIMING CHAIN HAD FAILED AND DAMAGED THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY. THE PARTS THAT FAILED WERE NOT DUE FOR MAINTENANCE UNTIL 200,000 MILES- MY CAR ONLY HAS 67,000 MILES. ALTHOUGH THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD IN ALL VOLKSWAGEN MODELS, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL FOR THE PARTS, AND THE ISSUE IT IS NOT COVERED BEYOND THE STANDARD 5 YEAR, 60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MYSELF AND MY CHILD BEING REAR ENDED AND KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME RAPID DECELERATION HAS OCCURRED IN THIS VEHICLE- IT HAPPENED 3 PREVIOUS TIMES LAST YEAR DUE TO ISSUES WITH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD/FUEL INJECTORS. A RECALL WAS EVENTUALLY ISSUED FOR THOSE PARTS. THE 2012 TIGUAN IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE- THERE ARE MANY FAILURES AND SAFETY-RELATED TSBS BUT VERY FEW RECALLS. IN FACT, THE TSB FOR MY CURRENT ISSUE WAS RELEASED 3 YEARS AGO FOR ALL VW MODELS, YET NO RECALLS EXIST FOR THESE FAULTY PARTS (TB 15-12-01)! WE RECENTLY (12-23-2014) BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE AUGUST 11TH 2014 RECALL OF THE TIGUAN ECM/AIR BUBBLE ISSUE RELATED TO THE FUEL PUMP IN THE CARS. OUR CAR WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY ISSUES RELATING TO THE RECALL AND DESCRIBED, BUT DUE TO POTENTIAL ISSUES DECIDED TO BRING IT IN TO HAVE IT APPLIED ANYWAYS. UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING FUNNY, AND WE NOTICED GAS MILEAGE HAD GONE DOWN. DUE TO ECM BEING REFLASHED AS A PART OF THE RECALL, WE CHALKED IT UP AS THE COMPUTER NEEDING TO RE-"LEARN" DRIVING HABITS, SHIFT POINTS, ETC.. ABOUT 25 MILES LATER WE WERE ON THE WAY HOME FROM AN EVENT ABOUT A FEW MILES FROM HOME. WE WERE ON A VERY BUSY 6 LANE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR LOST ALL ENGINE POWER. IT PUT US IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS POSITION, 4 ADULTS IN A CAR ON A BUSY 6 LANE HIGHWAY. WE MANAGED TO COAST OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND TO AN OFFRAMP. THE CAR RESTARTED AND THE EPC AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO RUN, BUT ONLY IN LIMP MODE, ENOUGH TO GET US THE FINAL COUPLE MILES HOME. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. ISSUE WAS A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT APPARENTLY IS A VERY COMMON PART TO FAIL, AND AT LOW MILEAGE ON CARS, IN ANY CONDITION. IT FAILED AFTER THE "NEW CAR WARRANTY" BUT WAS REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROVIDED BY VW. THE BRAKES FIRST APPEARED TO BE SLUGGISH AS I WAS STOPPING FOR A LIGHT. ONCE THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE ENGINE DIED. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, THEN TURNED IT BACK ON, AND PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE. THE ENGINE STARTED, BUT THE CAR SHUDDERED. IT DROVE LESS THAN A MILE BEFORE THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME SEQUENCE IN ORDER TO RESTART THE CAR, BUT THE ENGINE KEPT DYING. IN ALL, IT DIED FIVE TIMES IN FIVE MILES, DYING FASTER AND SHUDDERING HARDER UPON RESTART. THIS APPEARS TO HAPPEN AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR AWHILE, THEN IS TURNED OFF FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR AND THEN I GO TO DRIVE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE, SO IT IS WARMED UP. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP TWO TIMES NOW FOR THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME, THEY SUGGESTED REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP MODULE, WHICH WE DID DO, HOWEVER IT IS OCCURRING AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT BACK TO VW AND THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT, BUT HAVE SUGGESTED REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF, FOR A MERE $600 OR MORE, WHICH I HAVE NOT OPTED TO DO YET, AS I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THIS COSTLY PART FOR SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH MANY TIGUAN OWNERS. I THINK VOLKSWAGEN NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ISSUE A RECALL ON THESE FUEL PUMPS IF THAT IS THE CASE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR TIGUANS. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING DRASTICALLY WRONG WITH THESE CARS, WHETHER IT BE THE FUEL PUMP OR WHAT NOT, BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AS THE VEHICLE JUST TURNS OFF WHILE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IN PUBLIC PLACES, HOPING THAT SOMEONE CAN LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND TAKE THE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO RECTIFY IT.....UPDATED 02-28-14 *BF. Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC, and Passat, 2010-2013 Eos, 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Tiguan, and 2012-2014 Jetta Sportwagen vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag.
